after all this time, i still remember her birthday: september 21.

i haven’t seen her since late 2002–i tried to call her the summer after we moved away from carson city but the person on the other end said the number didn’t exist anymore. i’ve also wondered if she would even want to talk to me, given she moved away shortly after we did.

every so often i’ll think about her, how she’s doing; i thought about her constantly during quarantine. it kind of scares me to think what she looks and sounds like now as her child self is forever burned in my memory.

she came from a very christian, conservative family and i was the dirt-poor scrappy rebellious little rascal from the wrong side of the tracks, and yet we were thick as thieves, as they say; funny to think about this bc her parents loved me (her older brothers not so much, but her mom and dad were both so kind to me). her paternal grandparents hailed from the former austria-hungary and her maternal grandparents from the former czechoslovakia (and i thought my heritage was nuts).

i was into dinosaurs and she into horses, but we overlapped, and to this day, i feel every girl should be into both. we loved earth science—geology especially—and we planned to attend school and go into business together. obviously it never happened but it was our dream. 

i showed her my quiet place, a spot in the trees i went to just to cry.

we were artists, too: we wanted art to be in our lives forever and in fact, it was recently i learned she played an important role in the creation story of my cartoons: aside from my being the new girl with alcoholic parents, i started making them because i missed her.

she gave me that ceramic figurine of mickey mouse for christmas 1998: i keep it in my purse next to my pocketknife.

i love you, elizabeth. i hope wherever you are now, all is well. 💜

Zuko and Aang as they appear in Book 2: Water of my slowburn Zukaang AU, The Avatar and the Fire Prince!

Overall Synopsis (for new readers):

In the year 96 AG, a freshly burned and banished 13-year-old Prince Zuko discovers a strange boy frozen in an iceberg. When Zhao interferes with Zuko's plans to deliver the Avatar to his father, Aang helps Zuko and Iroh escape. They take refuge in the abandoned Air Temples, Aang searching for any remnants of his people that he can find. Along the way, he teaches an indoctrinated Zuko about the true nature of the Air Nomads. Zuko must come to terms with the fact that everything he has been taught was a lie, while Iroh must acknowledge and face the sins of his past. Eventually, Aang and Zuko become close friends, and Zuko begins to feel things he has never felt for anyone before. However, Zhao will not give up easily, and will do whatever it takes to capture the Avatar and his traitor accomplices.

Book 2 Synopsis:

Zuko and Iroh have now officially denounced the Fire Nation and the Royal Family and are dedicating themselves to helping Aang fight against the forces of their homeland. After narrowly escaping Admiral Zhao at Crescent Island during the winter solstice of 96 AG, Aang, Zuko, and Iroh travel south in search of the Southern Water Tribe village Aang has been dreaming about. The village is in danger: the Southern Raiders are coming, and it will be up to our trio - with the help of a couple of Water Tribe siblings - to unite the remaining villages of the Southern Water Tribe so that they will stand a fighting chance.

I got an iPad for Xmas and I’ve spent the past couple days working on this! :) I’m super happy with how it turned out!

Zuko’s about 14 here - his hair length is how it looks about halfway through this Book. I’ll probably do another piece to show what he looks like at the end of the Book since his hair is a lot longer now with it being almost a year since he cut it in the AU’s timeline (we’re now approaching the Northern Water Tribe storyline). I’ve also never drawn weapons before… so I hope his broadswords don’t look too wonky 😅

Aang is about 13 here. He’s wearing a new outfit as well, which I thought made sense since this AU takes place over 3-4 years instead of less than one year like in the OG series. Aang’s gonna grow a lot over the course of this AU, so he can’t just keep wearing his Air Nomad trainee clothes indefinitely lol.

I plan to do a lot more pieces in the future as I get the hang of digital art, so I would like to draw more characters (like Iroh, Sokka, and Katara) and more looks for Aang and Zuko. I’m also really excited for Book 3, which will be Earth in my fic (Earth is my absolute favorite season of the OG show). Zuko’s hair will probably be long enough to pull back into a ponytail again at some point during that book… Though this time it will be a different style :) gotta do some brainstorming for that one!

I’m close to wrapping up the next chapter, in which our characters make a return to the Northern Air Temple! I haven’t had as much time to work on it recently just due to all the holiday stuff that’s been going on. It’s probably gonna be a shorter chapter as well (which I don’t mind, I hope y’all don’t either). But after that, we’ll finally be in the Northern Water Tribe! :)

✧ synopsis: working at a cafe can be really fun: the customers being nice, cracking jokes with your coworkers, singing while brewing coffee and so on. but it's even more fun when two members of the staff bicker and fight all day and keep everyone entertained. that's what  hybe cafe is like, thanks to ni-ki and y/n.

✦ warnings: everything is a mess tbh, confrontation??, they talk about feelings

⋆16 they are going to start dating in 3 months (700 words)

y/n had to talk to ni-ki, she had to understand what was going on. Was he actually serious or was he just joking around? did he have a crush on her?

she got up from the cardboard box she was sitting on, in the back of the store. she had taken a five minutes break earlier since the coffee shop was really calm, with very few customers, mostly students studying on their ipads and laptops. she was relaxing a bit when the whole fiasco happened.

she decided that she would be mature and go talk to him. she just hoped he would do the same. 

she got up from her weirdly comfortable seat, took a deep breath to calm herself before she went up to face him and started walking, headed for the front. she walked through the door, the kitchen and went to the counter, where ni-ki was.

she saw him there, he was standing there, leaning on the counter, his hands kind of restlessly shaking. he looked up at her and after locking eyes with her for a short moment, he went back to looking at his hands.

“can we talk?” y/n asked

“when the shift ends” he said “we shouldn’t talk about that while working”

y/n agreed and went back to working, and he did the same. she was feeling a bit anxious, anticipating the worst scenarios ever where he would tell y/n he actually hated her and that it was just a bet.

the hour and a half left for their shift passed quickly and they found themself standing in front of each other in the private staff-only parking space near the cafe. 

y/n decided to break the ice first “so, was it all a prank of some sort to hurt me?” she said

“what? no that is not it at all” ni-ki quickly replied

“then what is it?” 

“i mean, it’s quite simple, i have a crush on you” ni-ki admitted freely. she wasn’t one to be so upfront about his feelings but something about y/n made him comfortable and able to speak freely. 

“i really didn’t expect that” y/n admitted

“why?”

“i mean we are always fighting and bickering, i really felt like you hated me for a moment”

“yeah i see why, but no, i always felt kind of drawn to you but i didn't want to make it weird so i acted that way, it was kind of childish on my side” ni-ki said

“i was just as childish, cause at first i really wanted to be close to you”

they both stopped talking and paused for a second.

“so?” y/n asked

“i think we should start getting to know each other, see if the hearted was actually real or not, let’s see” ni-ki said

“my hatred was very much real” y/n said laughing “but yeah, you are right, we see if we can be friends. I have to get used to you not being my worst enemy and i need time to do that, and you probably need some time too. then we will talk again”

“that is what i was thinking of doing” he said

“so we aren’t rivals anymore?” y/n asked with a small smile on her face. being honest to herself, she had been waiting for this for a while.

“nope!” ni-ki responded, sharing the same small smile as y/n and obviously sharing the same feeling, he had waited for this moment for even longer

y/n made a small step and hugged the tall boy, squeezing him tightly. ni-ki started laughing and squeezed her back. she started laughing as well and when she felt ni-kis hands tickling her on the waist the laugh turned hysterical.

what they didn’t know was that eunchae, jake and beomgyu where there as well, looking at them.

“i’m going to be replaced i fear” beomgyu said

“we can all just cry together when they ditch us for eachother” jake added

“yeah they are going to be bestfriends and forget about us” euncahe agreed

“nah they are going to date in about three months” a voice, coming from yeonjun who was standing behind them and listening to them, said.

Artist of the Week!

So last weekend, I announced that I'd like to feature an artist every weekend for both new fandom joinees who might not have seen some of this art and older fans who like the nostalgia. This week's artist is Ash @aha-my-villainous-thoughts 💖 who also, wonderful that they are, agreed to answer a few questions for me!

Which App Do You Use To Draw When I’m at my big set up I use Clip Studio Paint, I love it so much. It’s very straight forward to dip straight in, has all of the bells and whistles you need from an elite drawing program, and the community elements where you can see assets and brushes is a lot of fun - although I still to this day have no idea how to earn coins to buy assets?! I use a XPPen Artist 15.6 Pro Graphics Tablet to draw into the program, although my best tip with graphics tablets is to get a screen protector, mine got covered in marks before I noticed. Recently I also got an iPad 10.9 to use as a digital sketchbook I can carry around, and while I am enjoying Procreate, I think CSP is a better art program overall.

Fave Brushes? On iPad I stick to the technical pen, studio pen and the soft airbrush, along with the textures and the light pen. I don’t think Procreate has great ‘painting’ brushes, whereas on CSP I would marry the Gouache brushes, I love how they blend and texture as you work.

Your favourite piece you’ve drawn? I’m a super self indulgent artist, I try to draw the kind of stuff I like to look at, so it’s a lot of colour, a lot of fabric and details. My fave piece for detail is the one I did for the OFMD RBB last year - Crescente Devotione, there’s a blushing sentient stool in it! For colour I’m in love with this sleepy time Ed in a lil negligee and a Holly Golightly eyemask, he's my lock screen because I'm trash.

Who harder to draw: Ed or Stede? Oh for sure Stede. I love Rhys Darby, but the man has like no lips. I stand by this meltdown.

One essential tip for beginner artists? Comparison is the thief of joy, don’t measure yourself against others - particularly when you’re finding your groove. Be self indulgent af. Also get a screen protector for whatever digital screen you draw on, and BACK. THINGS. UP. Whether in an online account, or on an external harddrive - or both?! BACK THAT SHIT UP.

Why OFMD? I’ve been in a few fandoms in the past, always as a pretty passive enjoyer, little fanart here or there, little fanfic sprinkled around, but there’s just something about the way this fandom feels? It feels like a group of friends who’ve got their own lives and their goals, but they still exist in each other's orbit, it’s like this feeling of returning home to somewhere you’re always welcome. There’s so many good moments in the show for both comedy and some gut wrenching pathos. Sign up for the hot guy in leather and get got by this beautiful delicate little love story. It’s something about queer joy of thriving, not just surviving. Something about finding love and romance no matter your age or what’s past before. Something about found family, and unlikely friendships, and community and silliness. I was already a goner when Taika put on the wig, but then when he teared up in a blanket fort while trying not to die? Excuse me sir, I did not need feelings that powerful. It was literally waking me up at night thinking about his last shot weeping in the nook - like are you kidding me?! I’m supposed to finish watching and be normal after that??

Stan: Blue eyes, short black greasy hair ( he never washes his frickin hair ) he has some acne, he's the 2nd tallest in the main 4, he's thin, has earrings, he has a slipknot pin on his hat, and has some eye bags because he never sleeps 😱 he's bisexual ( girl pref ) and Demi boy. He has autism, and asthma. special interest is bored games, he listens to Slipknot, MCR, deftones, Korn, his fav song is Duality. his fav food is m&ms, his fav video game is Roblox, he also plays RimWorld, terrified of snakes, his fav shows are Stranger things, The simpsons, Spongebob, and Rick and morty, cares more for animals than most people, gets annoyed when people talk to much. His phone is full of pictures of Sparky. whenever he's home alone he chugs some of Randy's beer 😭 his phone is always on do not disturb. still keeps in touch with the goth kids. he's very close with Tolkien, which Kyle got mad about since Stan was jealous when Kyle was making tiktoks with Tolkien. he gets B-. Kyle: he has olive eyes, really curly short ginger hair, he has braces, and a bigger nose, he's pretty pale and has freckles, the shortest out of the 4, and he's chubby. he's bisexual and asexual ( he ofc found out when he's older ). he has type 1 diabetes (and is really embarrassed about it). anxiety, autism ( his special interest is ocean creatures ) and bad anger issues. he listens to AJR, Green day, The cure, Weezer, The offspring. his fav song is Pretty fly for a white guy. his fav food is stew, and and he drinks monster sometimes. His fav game is Minecraft and Fnaf 1. He's a giant germaphobe, he washes his hands after every time he goes somewhere. he's also scared of gore. he watches Gravity Falls, BfDI. Spongebob, Him and Ike watch Yo gabba gabba together 😭😭 He cant watch horror movies, and cant play scary games. He talks A LOT. He has a handsanitizer bottle on his desk. His favorite holiday is Halloween, he gets A+ most of the time, but sometimes he gets A-. he spends 2 hours doing his hair, he studies really hard, and gets furious if someone else in class gets a higher grade ( its usually Wendy ) he try's to draw good, and thinks he does, but its very poorly drawn cartoon drawings with detailed eyes. he try's to straighten his hair but it just looks very weird, and it made him sad 😓HIM AND STAN WATCH SPONGEBOB TOGETHER AND THEY LOAD UP ON EVERYSINGLE SNACK. he's insecure about his looks. he looks up to his dad a lot, he cry's when his teachers don't respond to him putting up his hand 😭. doesn't notice when he's raising his voice. sleeps with his orca whale plushie 😎 He watches Markiplier, Flamingo, and LS Mark.

Cartman: 1 brown eye, 1 blue eye, short light brown messy hair, he has long eyelashes and some acne, he has a tooth gap, he's the tallest of the 4, and ofc he's a fatass 😭 he's gay, lactose intolerant and has heterochromia (left is brown, right is blue) He listens to Lady gaga, Britney spears, Taylor swift. and his fav song is Poker face. His fav food is Cheesy Poofs, and Pancakes. His fav game is Happy wheels and People playground. he has Trypanophobia. He watches Saw, The Human Centipede, and Happy tree friends. when he plays Minecraft with people he refuses to share a house with someone cuz it's gay, he scams kids in Roblox adopt me. Him and Shelly play smash or pass together with celebrities 😭 he has a Instagram account for Mr Kitty. He's an iPad kid 🤪🤪🤪🤪 goes on Omegle (let's pretend it's still up) and pretends to be a girl. Has an account on Twitter just for making fun of Kyle, listens to true crime. Collects stickers 😊😊 begs his mom to give him robux, he also has another Twitter account that's a Stan account for lady Gaga. Terrified of Wendy 😭😲 the coon is his fursona, he also pretends that he hates furrys but secretly is one 😭 Gets C-. reddit user.. says "MY CONTROLLER BROKE" when he loses a game, he's fluent in German. He's really smart, sometimes even smarter than Kyle, but doesn't care to use it for good, he just uses it for asshole shit. Sleeps with all 10000 of his stuffed animals. he hates fathers day. he watches Trisha paytas, ishowspeed, and shane dawson. 😭😭

Kenny: Blue eyes, messy blonde hair, he has a tooth gap, and his clothes are really dirty, he's the 2nd shortest of the 4, and he's pretty skinny, he's pansexual and genderfluid. he listens to Cardi B, Gorillaz, Vengaboys. and his fav song is Boom, Boom, Boom, Boom!! his fav food is Grilled cheese. His fav game is DDLC and FNF (he plays on butters pc) He watches Pokemon, MPL ( originally Karen forced him to watch it but he kinda likes it LMAO ) and Sailor moon. he falls asleep in class a lot. He gets B+. therapist friend, zones out a lot. He sometimes comes to school with pigtails that Karen gave him. He never fights with his siblings. Stan always gives him some of his school lunch. his clothes are covered in holes and stains. he loves playing truth or dare and always picks dare. he loves birthday party's and always take a ton of food to bring to his family. he wants a pet rat so bad. he likes Stan the best out of the main 4, he sometimes finds Kyle super annoying and cartman... well its cartman.. goes outside and burns pieces of paper for fun. he watches Mr Beast ( he comments on every video "please help me") Gawr Gura, Ironmouse, and Pokimane.

Butters: Blue eyes, very short blonde hair, a scar on his right eye. he's the same height as Kenny, slim, has a couple freckles but not NEARLY as much as Kyle 😨he's Bisexual. He has PTSD. He listens to BTS, Disney songs, his fav song is Butter 🙀 His fav food is Ice cream ( strawberry ) His fav game is Hello Kitty Island Adventure, and Roblox. He watches Hello kitty (ofc) MLP ( him and Kenny watch it together) and Spongebob. He loves pastel colors. VERY bad memory, likes the taste of milk, Bites his nails, He still has the Marjorine clothes and likes to dance around in them, HIM AND BRADLEY ARE PEN PALS. Has to sing the ABCs to know the placements Gets A-. He also cant watch horror movies or play scary games like Kyle. idia rambles nehehe.

i address ortho by his name, but i call ortho (dead brother) by referring to him as idia's brother.

he's an asshole. he has the biggest inferiority complex yet also a superiority complex. he'll make harsh comment about someone (usually accidental, i've come to realize), yet he's also so shitty to himself and so insecure. which is actually not as shocking as it may sound. just like how vil is both insecure and confident in his beauty, idia is obviously confident in his gaming and tech abilities, while remaining insecure, which i think stems from the isolation he experienced growing up and the loss of his brother.

so, first i want to acknowledge his social anxiety, or just anxiety in general. it's actually not too unrealistic compared to other media. anxiety comes in unassigned levels. some people experience anxiety on a quieter side, while others experience it on a level where it makes it difficult to so much as interact with someone before they're thrown into an anxiety attack. this represents idia perfectly. (i would know myself, as i had a meltdown anytime stepping a foot into public was brought up regardless of how hard i tried to step outside my house, but i got therapy and i'm a lot better. no more extreme meltdowns!)

his anxiety definitely stems from the isolation he experienced growing up. he had no one but his brother and the adults who roamed the styx halls. he had no friends, and growing up, was seen as a prodigy of sorts; he was intelligent and capable, and of course, the next shroud to styx.

and then he lost his brother, ultimately leading him into a complete meltdown that led him to building his brother into a robot. he hated himself and missed his brother so much that he ended up completely creating a new brother to cope. it was actually a terrible method of grieving, but it's not like he had anyone there to help him through it; his parents didn't seem to reach out and try to help him move on from his brother's death, and cope with the fact that he is not at fault.

he had no friends, and didn't think he could make or keep any, because of his station at styx. he seen online friends as easier to hold because there's nothing face to face, no need to explain his personal life, he held no emotional attachment that comes with irl friends.

he goes nonverbal when speaking to someone and chooses to speak using his ipad. he is so self-conscious about himself, like his looks for one, and overthinks every interaction he has. like i said, his superiority complex mostly stems from his capabilities in gaming and tech, but he has no confidence in any other aspect of his life.

i don't see many people attacking him for what he did during his overblot (ykw, trying to take over the world), which is pretty biased just because his trauma is "worse", but now i'm gonna address that.

he and his brother only really wanted to go out into the world, they wanted to be normal and make friends, and play games with those friends. but when idia tried to give them that, he lost his brother. but it wasn't his fault, he was still a child. a child who was cut off and isolated and expected to live up to expectations since he was going to take over styx in the future.

ortho is connected to his brother, ortho is his brother, just not the one he tried to replace. so, when ortho was drawn to the soul of his brother in the underworld and remembered vil's and rook's words, he felt like what he was doing was right, to help idia who had never properly grieved.

idia was never approached for what happen, he was never given the proper comfort and help in his grieving process after the death of his brother, and ortho and his brother knew that. they were two children who wanted to help their brother who was still grieving despite how much he remained unaware of that himself.

when he heard his dead's brother's voice and ortho, saying they would change the world, they could make friends, and they no longer had to live the way they do. blot built despite his curse and he overblotted because he never properly grieved. that grief and anger at himself added on until it piled over enough to go against a curse.

idia's trauma goes deep, very deep. and it's sad what he and his brother(s) went through.

if he had gained the proper grieving council he needed from his parents, maybe things would've gone differently. although his life cannot be changed, having support, and acknowledgement from his parents could've helped steer from his overblot.

OK SO like. ur me . august 26th 2022. fan of dsmp for over a year who has a HUGE aversion to interacting with or creating fan content out of fear of the fandom n social media. u go to fanexpo with a friend’s family and, lo and behold, see an artist you’ve been lurking on’s booth! in person!

it was fucking EPIC i even saw cosplayers and. while i didn’t go for the sake of seeing DSMP, actually having the opportunity to compliment a big q cosplayer or talk to and buy a print from polukhina in the same techno shirt they were wearing and THEN find out i only narrowly nearly missed meeting linktoo really made me realize i wanted to be here, and rly involve myself in the fandom regardless of how terrifying and massive it was. i hadn’t drawn anything aside from doodles on scrap paper at work in god knows how long (a year or more), made my twitter account the day after fanexpo and only began to use it a week later during the utah finale. this is where the other ppl i accredit this account with come in :) mike maerids and clay clothmagictrick are two of the first people i recall interacting with during and after the finale. i drew actual fanart (albeit again, on scrap paper from work) and eventually whipped out my ipad to draw a silly convo i’d had as fanart, with my finger.

while memory issues do not serve me well and i genuinely only remembered i even *went* to fanexpo and saw anyone yesterday (or the day before?) i remember it now and i rly wanted to share that bcos its so fun and im so glad that a new apple pencil and so many cool people later and i’m here. :) this is gonna be the only one with a sappy story attached but im glad 2 share it

i still have the buttons and the quackity print i bought from polukhina then i just remembered :) second dsmp merch after the techno gg ez. this fandom is cool as hell and im so glad i got to remember why i came here LMAO

Streamer Ganke985, and Spider-Man who’s also known to do art commissions and leave links to his paypal drawn on napkins shoved in people’s bags as he saves them. it’s there. there’s a thin line connecting these ideas but i need to blow the dust away. oh my god. Ganke plugging Spider-Man’s carrd/commission sheet and he’s like “my bf (or best friend depending on how you read this) is saving up for a new laptop” and doesn’t realize he plugged the Spider-Man one. wait what if Miles doesn’t fucking make a different one for Spider-Man so it can’t be traced back to Miles Morales. 1. My first (and only) "normal" drawing of Janeway. In other words, the first drawing I did of her in my regular style using a screencap where she's just herself without anything weird going on. It was done on my iPad. I have yet to do a "normal" drawing of her using pencil and paper which is my preferred medium. I have a version of this drawing without the background, but my friend and I agreed it helped pull the drawing together because the drawing itself was so dark.

2. Cadet Janeway! The first drawing I ever did of her. The actual drawing looks better than this picture of it. I do like this one, but I'm going to try to make a better one sometime.

3. This one was my first attempt at drawing on my iPad using colour. I really wanted to try a drawing with colour, but I didn't know what to do. I realised a cartoon character would be easiest, and I really liked the colours of Dark Holo Janeway. Particularly the eyes. I'm really pleased with this one.

4. Second attempt at colour. This time using a picture of live action Janeway as reference. I'm not as pleased with it because I still haven't quite figured everything out, but I love the confetti.

5. I wanted to draw Janeway being dramatic as Arachnia. I think that about sums it up. Anyway, it's not actually finished yet, and the dress is slowly driving me insane.
