Skating icon Tessa Virtue lives in Toronto with her fiancé Toronto Maple Leafs star Morgan Rielly and she says they have a lot of fun exploring the city's booming food scene for their date nights.
Virtue spoke to Narcity following a special ceremony during which she was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame with her former skating partner over of 20 years, Scott Moir.
During the call, the Olympic athlete also talked about one of her favourite aspects of living in Toronto.
"I think the fun thing about living in a place like Toronto is that it's a real melting pot of different cultures and cuisine and it's just neat to kind of try new things," she said.
"I'm not a cook so it's nice to be downtown in the mix and exploring the restaurants."
As for where the couple likes to go, Virtue shared their four go-to restaurants in the city.

Papa Duck
I like to think a lot about the timeline after ''Ball of Revenge'', were Katz and Cajun canonically meet, but my first point go more with Cajun and LeQuack.
You see, the term Cajun actually come from a community of descendants of French Canadians that resided in the bayous of southern Louisiana, you can see the influence of this in Cajun's character in things like his background music and his motivation in his introduction episode (this community is good know for their really diverse cuisine).
So, knowing this, LeQuack goes to Cajun in ''Ball of Revenge'' thinking he knows about all this, and even tried to speak french to him, learning then something really awful: Cajun didn't knew about his heritage.
His ''name'' is actually the way those how raise him used to call him, so he always believed it was just a weird but funny name, not a whole culture. His love for cooking? Something that has always be in him, so he never give it half a mind to think it could means something more.
It was hard for Cajun to learn all that, and LeQuack could saw that. The duck is a bastard, but there's always a limit, and he could see a lil of young him in Cajun (more on his background later). Also learning that the fox wasn't even old enough to drink even less deal with a existencial crisis, LeQuack decided to symbolically adopt him.
Sure, the duck also knows little about the community Cajun is, but at least he is a full grown ass man able to help him found a point to start! Something that Cajun really needed, 'cause till this point his life choices just make him end in a stew or underground.
Weremole is also a honorable member in this found family, working like a mix of lil sibling+weird pet for Cajun, at the end of the day, it a weird but cute sceneario for everybody.
This is, till Katz got in scene...

Silly Hypothesis du Jour
There's something silly about the implicit cultural residue of Dragalia's world seeming to have the same English attitude regarding French. I know it's just a byproduct of writers injecting their own worldview, as we all do, but still is silly.
Now, Dragalia had quite a few cultural analogues already. Sventila? I'm probably spelling that wrong, seems to be 'Russia', Hinomoto is 'Japan' in feudal era, Taiwu is China...but we never really established a cultural land for France. Fair enough. There's too many countries to cover in any depth.
But the French lingers. Specifically, it seems to pop up with slightly more frequency in the royal family's dialogue, with words like rendezvous, atelier, and soirée in at least some members' vocabulary alongside other fairly common words of French origin like coup. They also seem to have drawn at least some noble titles from historically French ones that migrated to English like marquis and baron.

Combined with the other context it pops up in most frequently, which is to say, fine dining, I believe that whatever the origin of the French language in Dragalia, it carries much the same aura of fancy, high-class language.

(L'amandier is, surprise surprise, French, for an almond tree. His restaurant name is The Almond Tree. 'Pièce de résistance' is, meanwhile, a masterwork, though more literally it's 'piece of resistance', ie, something that has sticking power.)

(Forte is pretty well known- a strength, as is its French meaning, strong. Voilà needs no explanation but I will anyways: It's a contraction between vois and là, voir being the base verb to see, and là referring to a 'that' in this sense. It's essentially a 'see this!, a 'lo and behold'!)
Aside from those, there's also words like hors d'oeuvres, "allez cuisine!", sous chef (which, contrary to some people's thoughts I've heard, doesn't mean soup, it means 'under', they're subordinate to the big chef in the militaristic French cuisine world), and even in Valerio's skill names, amuse-bouche and bon appetit.
Honestly, I'm surprised at how often the Dragalia team took to actually adding in the accents, since people often forget.
Then again, another funnier if-still-relevant to my claim here is the array of very informal speakers butchering the spelling and saying of another French phrase. Ranzal's the most common offender, but anyone from Sarisse to Mym to Ilia (does that imply French as a fancy language is over 1k years old???) will say:

It's off of 'tout de suite', which means, essentially ASAP. Instantly. Given their relative care in ensuring pièce de résistance is accented properly, I'm guessing the writers just found this one funny and kept using it, Canadians as they probably were along with the voice cast.
So yeah, that's my case French, wherever it originated from in Dragalia lore, has all the same haute culture ideations that many in the English-speaking world do.
As a fun little fact: many of the words that do see usage in English that are directly derived from French, ex 'forte', 'naive', etc, are the feminine spellings. The masculine spelling of naive, or rather, naïve, is naïf. Most of the time you only need to slap 'e' on whatever word you're using but of course, there are exceptions. You also can see it in words ending in -ve, instead of -if, like positive.

Do you have any food preference headcanons? Its intriguing when your stories feature French Canadian cuisine. The vivid descriptions make it sound delicious, but when I search it online, it doesn't quite match Matt's enthusiasm. Sorry but pea soup looks kind of gross lol
I have a lot of them but any time I break them down there's always some cunt clowning my inbox telling me my cultural cuisine is gross. Go fuck yourself on an enameled ladle, please and thank you.

I like to imagine that the Stars specialize in cooking the cuisines of the cultures or ethnicities they’re associated with, either via general aesthetics or because of their creator’s ethnicity or native culture- If, uh, that makes sense, haha. Hope you don’t mind me ramblinggg- Also Ink gets more because he’s got two cultures I associate him with whoops-
Like! I think Ink would be good with French and Japanese cuisine, since Comyet has stated he’s french and his aesthetic is largely based on Japan, I believe? Or maybe just eastern Asian culture, but I’ve largely seen most people specifics Japan. From French cuisine, I really enjoy the idea of him making, like, macarons and crêpes (both French and Japanese styles!), as well as more savory stuff, like aligot and gougère (both involve cheese because for some reason Ink strikes me as the type to enjoy cheese???). He also strikes me as the sort to like drinks with fun names, like rinquinquin (a peach flavored alcoholic beverage!). From Japanese cuisine, I could see him loving mizu manjū (very pretty clear buns with a bunch of different fillings, they’re gorgeous and very artsy looking!) and shirokuma (shaved ice mixed with condensed milk and decorated to look like a bear!), and I could see him really enjoying age-onigiri (rice ball that’s been fried!) and takoyaki. Drink wise, since Comyet says he likes burnt food, I could see him enjoying akumochizake (sweet rice wine made with charcoal or ash), or maybe matatabicha (tea made from silver vine, because Ink has big cat vibes haha).
Dream would be good with Spanish cuisine (though I imagine he specializes in sweet no matter where they come from, but that! Isn’t! What I’m focusing on!). If we’re talking Spanish sweets, I see him being good at most of them, but I think he’d like smaller stuff or handheld foods the most, like pionono (small cylindrical pastry soaked with syrups and topped with toasted cream) or churros (which are actually commonly a breakfast item in Spain, he’d love it!), and for savory food, I could see him enjoying stuff easy to eat on the go, like pinchos morunos (skewers of diced pork or chicken marinated with olive oil and other spices) or pa amb tomàquet (toasted bread rubbed with tomato and seasoned with olive oil and sea salt!). For drinks, I could see him liking agua de cebada (malted barley mixed with sugar and lemon!) or calimocho (red wine mixed with cola).
Blue is difficult for me because I can’t find anything solid about associated cultures or where his creator might be from, so I usually imagine he specializes in Mexican foods (with a bit of American), mainly because he’s so associated with tacos and also I like doing research on different cuisines. Obviously there’s his aforementioned tacos, but I could also see him being very good with stuff like enchiladas or machacado con huevo (eggs scrambled with shredded dry beef!), and for sweets, I could see him making stuff like hot milk cake (butter sponge cake made with scalded milk) and marquesitas (a crêpe that’s been rolled like a taco and filled with a variety of sweet things). For drinks, I could see him making café de olla (coffee made with cinnamon and unrefined whole cane sugar which is specifically prepared in an earthen clay pot- Blue seems like a coffee drinker to me, haha).
This got too long but I wanted to ramble so I hope! You don’t! Mind!!!
My brain's only processing half of this but yes, I agree! I don't really imagine Ink as someone who drinks alcohol very often, but I also imagine he has a higher tolerance for it than most people. Dream also has a higher alcohol tolerance, but through self-conditioning rather than naturally high tolerance. I headcanon Blue and Stretch as Canadian, but it's interesting to see your headcanon too!
I imagine Dream as the main baker of the group, so I can see Ink going to him like "I wanna try this!" and showing (well, more like describing) the food or drink to Dream. And you can bet your entire bank account that Dream has snatched recipes from the two, particularly dessert recipes. I don't make the rules (yes I do).

Of course I can write this! Thank you for this ask. It was fun! Madara will be Canadian here because that’s hilarious for me to write:
Speaks like a good Canadian boy: says “Eh” and “sorry” a lot even when it’s something minor and he isn’t at fault
Madara lives in Northern Canada away from other people in an igloo. He rides a moose to work
He dresses like a lumberjack (plaid shirt and jeans) and drinks maple syrup shots
Just kidding! You should have realized I was trolling the moment I said Madara apologizes a lot. And moose and igloos don’t exist in the same place. By the way, the English translations I’ve read don’t sound particularly Canadian to me for Madara. If anyone knows of the post highlighting how he sounds Canadian, please let me know! I’d love to read it!
But of course Madara can be Canadian because a Canadian can look and sound like anyone, including someone with Japanese heritage
Madara is exceptionally proud of his Japanese background, especially in a country with a smaller Japanese community than the other East Asian nationalities he is often mistaken for
His home contains a variety of Japanese items, such as katanas displayed on the walls, tatami mats, and byobu (folding screens with panels decorated with paintings and/or calligraphy). He owns several yukatas and kimonos
As much as he loves traditional Japanese food, he likes trying food from other cultures. He is spoiled for choices in his part of the country, but he most strongly prefers cuisines that aren’t too heavy
He is fluent in Japanese, French, and probably Mandarin and enjoys reading classical works in these languages in addition to English. He makes a point to occasionally speak in Japanese to his Japanese peers to maintain his language skills
Madara lives in the city away from the city center in a greatly overpriced mansion. However even in the suburbs, it is more densely populated than he enjoys, but he tolerates it because of its relative proximity to his job. Whenever he has a stretch of days off, he and Izuna often escape to cottage country a few hours’ drive away and engage in their outdoor hobbies. The cold doesn’t bother him
He is a black belt in karate. His other hobbies include rock climbing (especially bouldering since he appreciates the risk), archery, and Japanese calligraphy
He could be involved in the business world, but I can only vaguely hand-wave about ‘business things,’ so I’ll suggest something else I can see Madara doing that I’m familiar with instead
Madara is a thoracic surgeon (half of the ones I see are Japanese okay). He is excellent at his specialty, a perfectionist, and world renown for his surgical skill and medical knowledge. His surgeries are a work of art, but he’s a bit like an assembly line – patients in and out of his operating table. He fits the stereotypes of a surgeon too: Madara isn’t known for his bedside manners after all. He has a slight God complex due to his expertise, but even if he’s brusque, he remains adequately professional to his colleagues to avoid complaints
He actually destroys the image of the average Canadian’s polite speech patterns, which excessively contain “thank you,” “sorry,” and other hedging language. Madara doesn’t waste his time with these pointless words. Everything he says is meaningful, otherwise he wouldn’t bother speaking at all

Although, I talk a lot here about the traditions of my paternal Czech ancestors, this year I’ve been feeling a pull towards my maternal Québécois ancestors.
On February 2, French Canadian Roman Catholics celebrate the Fête de la Chandeleur (Candlemas), honoring the day in the church calendar when Mary took the baby Jesus to the temple, by eating crêpes (thin pancakes). A traditional French Canadian proverb says "Manger des crêpes à la chandeleur apporte un an de bonheur" (Eating crêpes on Candlemas brings a year of happiness).
Eating crêpes on February 2nd also has its origins in pagan festivals. At the time, Candlemas referred to the fertility of the earth. The peasants had thus made it a habit to cook pancakes with excess flour from last year. With their round shape and golden color, pancakes symbolized the light, sun, and therefore the return of sunny days. Superstitious, they even imagined a game to bring prosperity: to blow the first pancake with the right hand with a gold coin in the left hand.
Although often overshadowed by Groundhog Day in the media, Candlemas is still celebrated in regions with strong French traditions, such as Quebec, Acadia, Louisiana, the Mississippi Valley and Maine.

“Crémeux.” “Croquant.” Disent Théo et Sirius en même temps.
« Et vous pouvez utiliser du miel au lieu du sucre blanc si, pour une raison ou un autre, vous n’en aviez pas. L’important c’est que votre sandwich à un gout sucré. » ajoute Sirius.
Les trois joueurs prennent chacun une banane dans la main, et commencent à le couper en petits tranches. « Comme des rondelles, tu vois? Ensuite, on les trempe dans le miel ou sucre, puis il faut les saupoudrer avec un ‘tit peu de la cannelle. Puis dans la poêle pour les caraméliser. Ça prend, quoi, trois minutes? »
« Entre temps, fait griller le pain, puis étale un peu de beurre sur chaque côté, et saupoudre avec le reste du mélange sucre cannelle, or qu’avec de la cannelle si tu n’as pas de sucre. »
« Étale une des tranches de pain avec ton beurre de cacahuète croquant » Sirius jette un regard un peu compétitif vers Théo, qui assiste Frédéric avec la caramélisation des rondelles de banane.
Théo reprend, « Quand vos rondelles ont une petite peau dure, c’est le temps de les étaler à leur tour sur le beurre de cacahuète bien crémeux. Fermez le sandwich, et voilà! » Un sandwich de la rondelle.
« Pour les petits, c’est tout aussi délicieux sans caraméliser les bananes, et comme ça il ne te faut rien qu’un grille-pain. »
Corinne leur demande l’origine du sandwich, puis prends une grande bouchée du sandwich préparé par Sirius.
« ‘Fin, quand nous étions des Peewees, Sirius et moi, nous étions sur la même équipe pour un saison ou deux. Sirius était deux, trois ans plus jeune, et il avait toujours l’air affamé avant chaque parti. Un jour je lui ai offert un part de mon sandwich – ma mère m’en faisait toujours trois. Aussi simple que ça. »
Tous les yeux tournent vers Sirius, qui hausse ces épaules. Frédéric lui donne une petite tape, comme pour dire Parle, connard. Sirius ajoute, « Oui c’est ça. Je crois que j’avais sept, huit ans? C’était la première fois que j’avais gouté un sandwich sucré. C’était le sandwich parfait, croquant, sucré, pain bien dorée. J’en mange un avant chaque match. Hé, tu en avais trois? Tu m’en donnais qu’un demi-sandwich et tu en avais trois?! »
« Merci Sirius, Théo. Maintenant, passons à l’échange culturelle. Frédéric Wentworth va nous démontrer une des recettes traditionnelles de chez lui à Kahnawake, le pain frit…. »

The next morning, Sirius, Théo, and Freddy find themselves back in the TV studio, behind the counter of the cooking set, this time with the hosts for the English morning show. Lisa LaFlamme, hired back as a special reporter for the games, greets the three then jumps right into introducing the segment.
« Good morning Canada! This is Lisa LaFlamme in the Team Canada studios, and I am joined today by the sharp end of the first line of the men’s national hockey team, winger and Captain Frederick Wentworth, center Sirius Black, and winger Théo Angevine. They are here to recreate yesterday’s viral cooking session for our English viewers. In case you missed it, Theo and Sirius are going to share one of their pre-game rituals with us, and then Frederick Wentworth is going to show us all how to make a celebratory staple from the Kahnawake reservation.
