Cross Stitch Projects, Part 5
This would be by far my most ambitious and outlandish project to date. The planning alone took waaaaay longer than I'd like admit. It's also part of the reason why I took a break from doing cross stitch for a while. Not because I was burnt out or anything, but because this project was done for another Zine, the "Garden of Shadows" zine that left me so disheartened and frustrated from how things went about. It sort of killed my love of the craft for a bit. You can see it in the photos, I didn't stitch this onto dark colored fabric. Every single inch of it was hand stitched. Be it the figures in the center or the entire fucking night sky behind them. I'm not even exaggerating when I say I worked on this multiple hours a day, every day, for nearly TEN MONTHS. I even have a photo of it next to the previous gummiship project to show a difference in size and complication. The gummiship was done on an 8 or 10 inch hoop. The Garden of Shadows piece had to be done on a massive quilting hoop as to hold it all in place while I worked. It had well over 20 thousand stitches! Ironically, Namine was the figure that gave me the most trouble. I had to rip out the stitches and redo her at least twice. The project was a hug turning point in how I planned out my projects and gave me a better idea of how to get the idea in my head down to thread.

A sneak peek of my submission to @shadamyzine Under the Light of the Moon 🌙 I wrote a wlw!Shadamy fic Blooming in Your Sunshine feat. transfem!Shadow and also hanging out with Chao as is my trademark – you know how it is...
The zine has now been released, and you can find it right here 💜 Full text of the sneak peak under the cut:
Little paws stick out of their picnic basket making small fussy noises. As the black hedgehog stays stunned by the audacity of the cute Chao thief, her girlfriend sprints over and grabs them. The Chao turns out to be pink with a wide red stripe across their bottom half, making them look like they’re wearing shorts, and neat spikes somewhat resembling Amy’s style. She shakes them slightly. “Bad Chao! No stealing!” she tries to chide them, but the Chao only giggles mischievously. “They are so much like you.” “You think?” the pink hedgehog raises the Chao higher and then passes them to Shadow. “Yes. Just as cute.”

Greetings from the Council of Shadamy! It’s about time we finally reveal ourselves! The Shadamy Zine Mod team consists of six dedicated moderators hoping to make this experience as great as possible for everyone involved!
Read more on us in the thread below!
Each of us has created numerous Shadamy food, from fanfics to illustrations, which you can check on our social medias! <3
─── ・ 。゚☆: .☽ . :☆゚. ───
☆ CHAKO - @ochako999 | Twitter
I'm Chako! I have several experiences as contributor and merch artist for several zines but this is my first time modding and heading one! So excited! Compared to other veteran mods, I'm the fandom baby as I just joined around May last year but i love Shadamy with a passion! I hope all the graphics and zine decos I made is to your liking! <3
☆ MOMO - @momotarotea | Twitter | Ao3
I'm one of the writing mods for this zine, and while I'm new to making zines I'm a bit of a veteran when it comes to Shadamy. The Sonic X scene where Amy hugs Shadow thinking he's Sonic is what got me on the band wagon, and over a decade later here I am, writing and drawing them... I hope we can make something amazing as a team!
☆ ARi - @killingthecringe | Ao3
I'm Ari, one of the writing mods for this year's zine! I was also a mod for 2022 Shadamy Secret Santa, and my day job as an admin means organization and writing are my fortes. I've been a Shadamy fan since 2009, and have came back to the fandom after a long hiatus last year! Please feel free to reach out if you need anything, from writing advice to a pep talk. I am always happy to help!
☆ SHADOW - @shadowsfascination | dA
You can call me Shadows. Been a Sonic fan since the beginning of time! ;) My passions include drawing, writing, reading, gardening, traveling and daydreaming.
I'm one of the art and translation mods and I have experience running other projects. I speak Dutch (fluently), so if you need help translating from English to Dutch, happy to help!
☆ NVRA - @nvrfearthefall | IG
Hello! I am one of the art mods for the Shadamy zine, and I am so excited to be here! I've been a Shadamy fan since literally 2020. I love this pairing so much, but my frustration over the lack of content in the official canon is what inspired me to start drawing! I participated in the Shadamy Secret Santa and in last year's Shadamy zine. My piece is currently the icon for the tumblr page/discord server! :D
☆ MiSTLETOE - @deadrabbithq | Twitter
Hi! I'm Mistletoe! I've been a Shadamy fan since the good year of 2012. I'm an artist and a writer. I am in charge of zine formatting and I love helping people so I will do whatever I can to help if you need anything. Don't be afraid to hit me up.
─── ・ 。゚☆: .☽ . :☆゚. ───
We've been planning for this project since last year! We're all so hungry for more contents of this pairing so we decided to team up and here we are now <3
Tumblr media
We are looking forward to your interest and participation!

Consensus seems to be that Segoe UI Black is the best font for my zine's redtop masthead.
What do you guys think of a drop shadow?
Tumblr media
I'm trying to evoke the feeling of a supermarket tabloid passing itself off as a real newspaper. It's a parody of all those rags that are like "you can't trust the mainstream media, but you can trust us because we hate the same people you hate," but I want mine to be funny, not legitimately hateful.
Do you ever go to the store and look at the pathetic magazine selection they have nowadays? An entire rack dedicated to guns, motorcycles, home and gardens, a bunch of thick glossy ad-laden booklets dedicated to marvel or dc or harry potter or bts, whatever media property is big right now for the publisher to capitalize on. I hate them! They don't even carry National Geographic anymore, just Nat Geo Traveler, those glossy photo collections like "100 Places You'll Never Afford to Visit" and "Oceans at Sunset; Give Us a Photography Award" (not that I much care for Nat Geo anymore anyway, considering it's owned by disney now. Everything is owned by disney...)
My point is, everything has to cater to the lowest common denominator. Everything has to appeal to as wide an audience as possible; nothing is allowed to be niche anymore, because it's all about exponential profits. Doesn't matter if it has a dedicated readership, if the number doesn't go up fast enough then the publisher says it's not worth pursuing. I grew up just as magazines started to die, and I miss them.
I want The Some Times to cater to young millennials and old zoomers who grew up at the same time as I did. I want it to evoke the feeling of Nick Mag or Mad Kids, but less infantile; we're adults now, we can't go back to your childhood, but we can still feel the same joy we used to. Don't you miss physical media? Don't you miss cultivated content about your favorite shows and movies instead of the constant drip-feed of the same grayish-brown slop we get on the internet? When you were a kid, did you parents let you subscribe to your favorite magazines, or did you have to beg them to buy you the newest issues one at a time when you saw them in the store? Comics, short stories, crafts/diy projects, lifestyle and entertainment, something for everyone. Like Mad Magazine, but less annoying, or Playboy, but less disgusting.
Nothing is set in stone. This project is evolving every day.
I'll keep you posted.

The 16 best things to do in San Francisco
Famously beautiful, San Francisco is one of the most filmed, photographed (and shared on social networks) cities in the world. It’s even better in real life.
Tumblr media
Laurence Grigorov, who is director of a South African based residential property development firm, enjoys travelling around the world.
Travelling abroad to enjoy different cultures and places is a hobby and favourite pastime for Laurence Grigorov. This allows him to both relax and unwind, as well as exposing hi to various architectural and design ideas and styles.
Tumblr media
1. Admire the Golden Gate Bridge from these vantage points
Other suspension bridges are impressive feats of engineering, but the Golden Gate Bridge tops them all for its razzle-dazzle. On sunny days, this American icon transfixes crowds with its radiant glow (there are great views from Crissy Field), made possible by the work of 28 daredevil painters who reapply around 1000 gallons of International Orange paint each week. To inspect their work, duck under the bridge into Fort Point, make your way to the roof and look up: you’ll notice that even on the underbelly of the bridge, not a single rivet is allowed to get rusty.
2. Explore the attractions of Golden Gate Park
Golden Gate Park seems to contain just about everything San Franciscans love about their city, from bonsai and buffalo to flowers, free music and free spirits. The de Young Museum offers superb exhibitions of fine art in a striking contemporary building designed by Herzog & de Meuron, while the nearby California Academy of Sciences is a research institute and fabulous natural history museum complete with its own rainforest and aquarium. The park is also home to the San Francisco Botanical Garden, Japanese Tea Garden, Conservatory of Flowers and Stow Lake. Today, everything SF needs is here: inspiration, nature and murals.
Tumblr media
3. Photograph the Mission’s 400+ street murals
Love changed the course of art history in the 1930s when modern-art power couple Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo honeymooned in San Francisco. Kahlo completed her first portrait commissions during her time in the city, while Rivera created public masterpieces that inspired generations of San Francisco muralists. Today San Francisco’s Mission District is an urban-art showstopper, featuring more than 400 murals throughout the neighborhood.
4. Browse the iconic City Lights Books
Free speech and free spirits have rejoiced since 1957, when City Lights founder and poet Lawrence Ferlinghetti and manager Shigeyoshi Murao won a landmark ruling defending their right to publish Allen Ginsberg's magnificent epic poem Howl. Celebrate your freedom to read freely in the designated Poet’s Chair upstairs, overlooking Jack Kerouac Alley. Then load up on zines on the mezzanine and entertain radical ideas downstairs in the new “Pedagogies of Resistance” section.
Tumblr media
5. Jump on a cable car – and hold tight
Carnival rides can’t compare to the time-traveling thrills of the cable car, San Francisco’s steampunk mode of public transport. As the rickety wagons ascend notoriously steep streets, first-timers slide into strangers’ laps – cable cars were invented in 1873, long before seat belts – as regulars just grip the leather hand straps, leaning back and riding the downhill plunges like pro surfers. Follow their lead, and you’ll soon master the San Francisco stance and find yourself conquering the city’s hills without even breaking a sweat.
6. Be inspired at the Asian Art Museum
Inspiration can be found across three floors spanning 6000 years of Asian art at this inspiring museum. Visitors can take in everything from meditative Tibetan mandalas to palace-intrigue Mughal miniatures, with stops to admire intricate Islamic geometric tile work, giddy arrays of Chinese snuff bottles and an entire Japanese minimalist teahouse. Besides the largest collection of Asian art outside Asia – 18,000-plus works – the Asian Art Museum offers excellent all-ages programs, from shadow-puppet shows to DJ mixers. Expanded ground-floor galleries host groundbreaking contemporary installations, from Jean Shin’s melted cell phone towers to teamLAB’s immersive Tokyo dreamscapes.
Tumblr media
7. Savor California food culture at the Ferry Building
Global food trends start in San Francisco. To sample tomorrow’s menu today, head to the Ferry Building, the city’s monument to trailblazing local, sustainable food. Don’t miss the Saturday farmers market, where top chefs jostle for the first pick of rare heirloom varietals, and foodie babies blissfully teethe on organic California peaches.
8. Tour Alcatraz, the notorious island prison
From its 19th-century founding as a jail for Civil War deserters and Native American dissidents until its closure by Robert Kennedy in 1963, Alcatraz was America’s most notorious penitentiary. With easy access from the city, a thrilling and unexpected history, daring tales of thwarted escape attempts and stunning views of the San Francisco skyline, “the Rock” garners 1.4 million visitors each year. Freedom will never feel so good as it will on the return ferry to San Francisco, only 1.25 miles across the bay’s riptides.
Tumblr media
9. Duck down the backstreets of Chinatown
Enter Dragon’s Gate to saunter down Chinatown’s main tourist drag, Grant Ave. It's hard to believe this pagoda-topped, souvenir-shop-packed strip was once the wildest spot in the West – at least until you see the fascinating displays at the Chinese Historical Society of America. Walk Waverly Place, Chinatown’s soul, lined with flag-festooned, colorful temple balconies and family-run businesses. Then duck into Chinatown’s historic alleyways to glimpse a neighborhood that’s survived against daunting odds, listening for mah-jongg tiles, temple gongs and Chinese orchestras as you wander the backstreets.
10. Trace the history of the avant-garde at SFMOMA
From the moment of its founding in 1935, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art envisioned a world of radical new possibilities. SFMOMA was a forward-thinking early collector in such then-emerging media as photography, murals, film and installation. Today, the institution has tripled in size and ambition, dedicating entire wings to new media, room-size paintings, high-tech design and monumental Richard Serra sculptures.
Tumblr media
11. Go over the rainbow in the Castro
Somewhere over the rainbow (crosswalk), you’ll realize you’ve officially arrived in the Castro district – the most out-and-proud neighborhood on the planet for more than 50 years. Walk in the footsteps of LGBTIQ+ trailblazers along the Rainbow Honor Walk, get to know civil-rights champions at America’s first GLBT History Museum and join history perpetually in progress at San Francisco’s month-long, million-strong Pride celebrations in June.
12. Take in the city panorama from Coit Tower
Wild parrots might mock your progress up Telegraph Hill – but then again, they shouldn’t expect to keep scenery like this to themselves. The Filbert St Steps pass cliffside cottage gardens to reach SF’s monument to independent thinking: Coit Tower. Fire-fighting millionaire Lillie Hitchcock Coit commissioned this art deco monument to honor firefighters, while muralists captured 1930s San Francisco in its lobby frescoes. Coit Tower’s paintings and panoramic viewing platform show off the city at its best: all broad perspectives, outlandish and inspiring.
Tumblr media
13. Hear the sea lions bark at Pier 39
Sea lions took over Pier 39, San Francisco’s most coveted waterfront real estate, in 1989 and have been making a public display of themselves ever since. Naturally, these unkempt squatters have become San Francisco’s favorite mascots, and since California law requires boats to make way for marine mammals, yacht owners have had to relinquish valuable slips to accommodate as many as 1000 sea lions. Night and day, they canoodle, belch, scratch and gleefully shove one another off the docks. It’s a joy to watch.
14. Get hands-on with science at the Exploratorium
Can you stop time, sculpt fog or make sand sing? At the Exploratorium, San Francisco’s hands-on laboratory of science and human perception, you’ll discover superhuman abilities you never knew you had. But the Exploratorium is not just for kids: there are kid-free hours on Thursdays offering mad-scientist cocktails, technology-assisted sing-alongs and themed exhibits for an 18-plus crowd.
15. Play vintage amusements at Musée Mécanique
A flashback to penny arcades, the Musée Mécanique in Fisherman’s Wharf houses a mind-blowing collection of vintage mechanical amusements. Sinister, freckle-faced “Laffing Sal” has freaked out kids for over a century, yet don’t let this manic mannequin deter you from the best arcade west of Coney Island. A quarter lets you start brawls in Wild West saloons, peep at belly dancers through a vintage Mutoscope and get hypnotized by a Ferris wheel made from toothpicks.
16. Sip a cocktail at a Barbary Coast bar
Friendly bartenders were once highly suspect in Barbary Coast, San Francisco’s Gold Rush–era red-light district. Circa 1849, a night that began with smiles and a 10-cent whiskey could end two days later, waking from a drugged sleep on a vessel bound for Patagonia. Now that double-crossing barkeep Shanghai Kelly is no longer a danger to drinkers, San Franciscans can relax over historically correct cocktails at North Beach’s revived Barbary Coast saloons, including Comstock Saloon, Devil’s Acre and 15 Romolo. Today’s saloon scene is a fitting homage to drunken sailors of yore, with iron stools, absinthe fountains, dim lighting and reassuring barkeep banter.

Hii i just wanted to say!! Thank you soso much for your wonderful tags on my piece for the smile for me zine! im still all mushy about it :'-) s4m is important to me as a whole, but Trencil has a particular special place in my heart!! the main idea I wanted to try and convey was Trencil tending to his overgrown garden, much like his heart, in an attempt to change and grow and move on (i see him as a widdow!), taking the last flower he and his partner planted together and getting ready the pot he now always carries it in. so he's got his reminder of love with him, and he'll always be taking good care of it
Of course!! You get what you deserve!!!
That's a lovely interpretation :") ( smiling emote with tears) thank you for sharing.
Hmm...I feel I should share something in return....well there's this MLP fic very very special to me called The Mare At The End Of Forever by Obselescence...
--
(Withered and weak, she sat with the tree, guarded only by the dwindling magic of a million-year-old spell. Somehow, it seemed fitting. She was ancient by then—beyond ancient—but the tree was ancient too. She had seen to that much. It had grown older and grayer with her as the years had gone by, and was practically fossilized now, despite her preservative magic... Soon it would die with her too. Neither of them would be forced to face the end alone.
"There isn’t much time left, Sister," said Luna, suddenly sitting beside her as well. "Are you sure there is nothing left that you wish to say? No final words?"
Of course. Celestia sighed. She couldn't be left to die in peace. "Leave me alone, Luna," she croaked. "I've said all there is to say for you. I've done all I could do—" a hacking cough interrupted her and her eyes drooped downward as her energy began to flag. Even the mere effort of speech was starting to take its toll on her. It almost hurt to talk. "If there's anything more... I don't care to hear about it."
Luna moved in close and draped her wing over her. It seemed bigger now, to Celestia. Or perhaps, in her age, she had simply shrunk. "I never asked that you do more," said Luna softly. "You have done so much, Sister. Far more than anyone could ever have asked of you."
"Then... why do you keep coming back?"
"To remind you," said Luna, "so that you would not forget."
"I don't want to remember," Celestia rasped. "I shouldn't have to remember."
Luna said nothing to that, but drew her wing in, nestling a bit closer to her big sister. She felt warm, Celestia realized. Warmer than anything she'd been able to feel in a long time.
"It was often said that the moon needs the sun," said Luna, after a time, "for the moon could not shine if it did not reflect the sun's light."
"When there were still those who could say that..." said Celestia, her eyes turning back to the ancient tree behind her. "When there was still a moon..."
"But I think it true also," Luna continued, "that the sun needs the moon, to keep its light shining when the night is at its blackest, and all is dark."
"It hasn't been dark for a long time."
Luna hugged her tightly, tears starting to flow from her eyes. "You think it meant nothing because it came to nothing," she said. "But it did mean something. We all meant something. To you. If ever, even once, a subject, a student, or a sister, mattered to you—if you still cherish what time you did have with them—that is reason enough for them to have lived in the first place."
Celestia coughed again and shuddered. The sand glowed with heat from the flickering sun. She wouldn't last much longer, she knew. Not like this. She didn't have to deal with Luna’s shadow forever. The chill of death, slowly welling up inside her, would save her from that fate. "I keep telling you: it doesn't mean anything to me now," she said. "Maybe it did... Not anymore. I’ve grown past that."
Luna smiled at her, her eyes bright through the tears. It wasn’t the disappointed, piteous smile from so many millions of years ago, but that adoring, unconditional grin she'd always worn when she’d looked up to Celestia in life. Celestia could barely remember the last time she had seen that smile, and she wondered how, after everything she had said, Luna could still wear it while looking down on her in death.
"As you wish, Sister," she said. "But you are wrong: if it truly meant nothing to you, the tree above us now would not still be standing."
With that last parting shot, Luna vanished, and the feathery warmth of her wing faded into the air around Celestia, leaving her alone to spend what little time she had left.
And with only a few hours left on the clock, Celestia turned her head upward one final time. Through the withered and leafless branches of her tree, she looked to the looming red sun that she was destined to die with. She leaned just a bit to the side, to rest her head against the tree that was her baby sister’s gravestone, and mustered just enough of her remaining strength to smile.
"Fair enough, Luna." She closed her eyes. I'll see you soon.)
--
It may not be a 1:1 with your headcanon, but I do not mean it to be. I simply see that, they both carry the same beauty and thought in them. It's wonderful what we can do for the people we love. It's wonderful how the feeling I got from a fic I read more than ten years ago, author's left the fandom, can be brought back in just the 5 or 6 sentences where you have passed on your story. Celestia moves on from all-encompassing grief, and so does Trencil. Both shall rise like new stars in the wake of the dark left behind.

How do y’all find a Fanzine to join?
I’d like to get back into after how poorly things went with the @garden-of-shadows-zine but I have no idea how to even start looking. It seems like every search query I try just go to ones that are closed or just looking for buyers. I’d like to contribute to one but I’ve no idea where to start.

The zine hosted by @kingdomsaurushearts called Garden of Shadows should have been released on the first of December but nothing has been sent to me. I preordered the digital version in August via Gumroad in good faith my purchase would be honoured. The zine account has been silent since November despite promising more updates.
I have emailed and sent a message to that account but I got no response. I have also sent the zine host a DM on Twitter, emailed them and sent an ask to their Tumblr about this. Now, I am making a Tumblr post tagging them in case they miss any of my messages and so other people are aware of what is going on with orders for the zine.
To the zine host, please send me a PDF of the zine or a full refund.

Etsy Store Here l Ko-Fi l Commission Info I Instagram I Zine
Part 1 Here!
A/N: I think, maybe one more part and an epilogue and it's done haha.
- “You know I love spending time with you Reg-“
- Regulus looks up from his parchment to meet your eyes
- “But do we really have to hang out here?”
- He looks around the secret chamber in the clocktower in the courtyard you two are currently situated in
- The sliver of golden light streaming in through the clock’s face practically glowing on his parchment
- “Is there something wrong with this place?”
- He used to come here all the time when he was trying to get away from his “friends”
- He thought it was pretty pleasant
- A nice quiet place to study
- You just raise an eyebrow
- “Reg, you seriously see nothing wrong with sitting in a dust-ridden chamber and doing our homework by streams of sunlight?”
- It’s almost pathetic really, you both have to sit right by the face of the clock to get even a sliver of light so you can see where you’re writing/reading
- For a second, a single moment, you wonder if Regulus is ashamed to be seen with you
- But it vanishes as soon as it appears
- No, Reg isn’t like that
- You’ve had faith in him until now, not believing the rumors but instead trusting your eyes, and you’re not going to stop
- You’ve got some regrets
- But you know choosing to trust Regulus will never be one of them
- what Regulus says knocks you off your feet though
- “ I do it all the time at home,” he says automatically with a shrug
- Three seconds later his eyes punch shut
- He shouldn’t have said that
- And sure enough, when his eyes rise to meet yours you’re looking at him with a stern expression
- “They make you study in the dark?!?” You hiss, he imagines you’re whispering so you keep yourself from yelling
- “No they make me read in the dark,” He says it like there’s some great big difference or something.
- Ever since he opened up to you about his home life, you’ve been almost protective of him
- He’s started to patch things up with Sirius, but not in the eyes of others
- Mostly in carefully concealed letters and occasionally in the dead of night in the astronomy tower
- It’s not a ton, they still have to act indifferent to the rest of the world
- For Regulus’s safety
- But it’s already better than it was
- But of course, you don’t know that, he’s been especially careful that you don’t find out because it could mean danger for you
- He’s only opened his mouth, about to tell you:
- ‘It’s not that bad, it’s just when the lights on late at night his parents get suspicious he’s doing something he shouldn’t -which he technically is since he’s mostly reading Muggle books you recommended or writing letters to you- and will warrant a search’
- When you cup his face in your hands
- “You shouldn’t have to do that Reg” your eyes seem glassy, eyebrows threaded together as your lips pull into a fine line
- Adorable really
- It’s cute how you get so upset for him
- He’d have laughed if he wasn’t so away of how soft your hands were as they touched his face
- He shuts his eyes for a moment, relishing in the gentle comfort the skinship brings
- “They’re my family” he murmurs, nuzzling his face into your touch
- He says it like there’s nothing else to say
- Like it’s an irreversible fact of life
- And maybe it is because as long as he’s alive he’ll never be able to change the fact that he and his family are connected
- That he’s a Black
- The thought makes your mouth pull a little tighter
- It makes you angry
- Because when a family is that terrible to you, well it’s nothing more than a curse
- Before you know what you’re doing you squeeze his face and say:
- “Then I’ll be your family from now on”
- .
- ..
- ...
- Regulus’s eyes are wide as he stares at you
- You feel your face grow warm, mouth opening and closing-
- Why did you say that?!?!?
- Your searching for the right words, your hands about to move from his face when his hands cover your own
- “Is that a proposal (Y/N)?”
- There’s a teasing glint in Regulus’s eyes and you feel your face grow even warmer
- You would hide your face if he weren’t holding your hands in place
- “ Regulus (L/N) does have a good ring to it don’t you think?”
- You groan pulling your hands free so you can finally hide
- “Please stop teasing me I didn’t-“
- “Who says I’m teasing?”
- You look at him and he has the most tender expression as his fingers push a strand of hair behind your ears
- “W-what do you mean?”
- His smile doesn’t dim in the slightest, his eyes warm
- He moves closer to you at an impossibly slow pace
- You wait with bated breath
- And when he’s only an inch away he whispers
- “You’re smart (Y/N), so don’t tell me you haven’t figured it out”
- And then he kisses you
- His lips brush against yours
- It’s shy of even a peck
- As he retreats back, eyes fluttering open, you move with him pressing your lips against his more forcefully
- He almost stumbles back from the movement. Catching himself with a hand placed behind his hand
- His other hand threading into your hair
- Regulus has kissed people before
- Underneath the mistletoe at Slughorns Christmas party
- In the gardens at the pureblood balls
- One in a shadow in the corridor
- But it’s never been like this
- Where one kiss turns into two
- And then two into four
- And before he knows what’s happening he’s lost track of how many kisses you’ve exchanged
- All he can think about is the taste of your mouth
- The feel of your hair, the soft skin on your face, the tender feeling of his hands on your waist
- He feels like he’s drunk, almost dizzy with joy, completely intoxicated on you
- He only comes back to his senses when you place a hand on his chest and push back slightly
- “Stop” you whisper, and the world alone is enough to make him feel stone-cold sober
- “Not here, not like this”
- You’re sprawled on the floor of the clocktower, both of your hands pressing against his chest, pressing him back
- And he’s hovering over you, one of his legs pinned on either side of you, one his hands on your face, and the other is underneath the hem of your shirt
- He jerks his hands away from your waist
- When did he get on top of you like this?
- “Sorry I didn’t realize-“ his words stutter to a stop as he moves off of you
- He doesn’t even know when the situation escalated this much
- Weren’t you just exchanging chaste kisses a second ago
- He feels awful, he hasn’t even taken you on a date and he’s already pushing past your boundaries
- But you don’t let him feel awful for too long
- You thread your fingers through his, lifting his hand so you can press kisses to it
- “It’s not that I didn’t like it,” because you did, his hands were so warm, and he smelled so good
- It felt so soft
- So comforting
- But
- “ I just didn’t want to do it here” the place is covered with dust, and you’re pretty sure you felt a spider crawl up your leg at one point
- It’s just not hygienic
- You’re a little nervous you’ve upset him, most guys would
- Most boys wouldn’t have stopped when you told them, offering reasons to keep going, pushing a little bit further than you liked before retreating
- They certainly wouldn’t have found themselves away like Regulus did
- And of course, Regulus doesn’t get upset, how could he?
- He squeezes your hand, looking down at you kindly
- “No it’s okay. I’m more than happy to wait for anything more than a kiss until I’m officially Regulus (L/N)”
- You shove him away and he starts laughing
- “You’re never going to let me live that down are you?” Your face feels like it’s burning
- He only laughs harder, following you when you gather your things and start to leave
- “Don’t tell me you’re taking it back, you’re breaking my maiden heart over here (Y/N)” he grins when he sees you even more embarrassed As you walk through an empty courtyard
- You look mad, but you intertwine your fingers with his when he reaches for your hand
- And for now, it’s enough
Bonus:
- “So does this mean I’m you’re boyfriend now?”
- “Obviously”
- You’re scribbling away into your parchment, rushing to get all the answers down, your hand firmly held in his
- You hope he doesn’t hear how quick your heart is racing
- “So should I tell all our friends were dating with the intention of making me an official (L/N) in mind?”
- “I’m breaking up with you”

Spring Birthday
Tumblr media
After Sora’s return, Naminé’s friends celebrate her birthday with her. While her early days were lonely, her life is very different now, and she treasures each new memory with the people dear to her heart.
~1650 words. Post-Kingdom Hearts III and Melody of Memory. Gen, Friendship, Fluff. Naminé POV. Written for @naminezine, and the banner art is by the lovely @somniumars.
“Naminé, when is your birthday?” Kairi asked over breakfast one day, scones with jam and clotted cream, served with a hot cup of tea for both of them. They liked to visit this cafe together at least once a month. It had outdoor seating, and the weather was finally warm enough again for them to sit outside with light jackets.
Naminé stopped buttering her scone for a moment and frowned. It was a simple enough question, and yet she found herself unsure of what to say.
“Well, I suppose it was the day Sora released his heart to save you,” she said at last. “But as glad as I am to be alive, it feels strange to celebrate that day, considering what happened.”
“I understand,” Kairi said softly. “Are there any other days you can think of?”
Naminé paused once more and thought as Kairi sipped some more of her tea. The only other day she could really think of was…
“The day of my rebirth. It was spring on Radiant Garden. The sun was shining, the flowers were blooming, and the weather was perfect.” She sighed happily at the memory. “I’ll never forget what it felt like to walk outside for the first time in a body of my own.”
“Then why don’t we make that your birthday? I know we technically missed it last year, when we were all searching for Sora, but it’s coming up here soon.”
“Sure, that sounds nice.” Naminé put one more cube of sugar in her tea to get it to just the right sweetness, then added a little more cream and stirred. “I’ve never really thought about having a birthday of my own before.”
“Well, you deserve to have one,” Kairi said with a determined glint in her eye. “You’re your own person. Always have been, always will be.”
The two girls chatted some more as they finished their breakfast, and the subject soon slipped away from Naminé’s mind. It wasn’t until she and Xion were gathering shells together on Destiny Islands a few days later when the topic of birthdays came up again.
“See,” Xion said as she picked up a thalassa shell, “I like these ones the most, with the pink centers and yellow edges.”
“I like them too. Yellow’s one of my favorite colors.”
Yellow was the color of the sun. A hopeful color for a girl that had begun her life in a cage, longing to see the outdoors for herself. For that reason alone it was precious to her.
“You like blue too, right?” Xion said. She placed another thalassa shell in Naminé’s palm, this one with a blue center and yellow edges.
Naminé nodded. “Yes. Blue is the color of the sky… of the waves… all the things I longed to see when I was imprisoned in Castle Oblivion.”
“It suits you, and so does yellow,” Xion said with a smile. “Born from the waves, and reborn during the spring.”
“Xion, when is your birthday?” Naminé suddenly asked. She realized she hadn’t really gotten to celebrate it with her before.
“Oh, my birthday? I figured it should be during the fall. I don’t know why, but I’ve always been drawn to falling leaves, the seasons changing, that kind of thing.” She smiled ruefully. “I suppose because I felt like my time was limited, just like those leaves. Kairi actually asked me about it recently, I think because she wants to—”
Her eyes went wide, then she coughed and craned her neck. “Look, I see some more shells over there!”
Naminé found Xion’s startled reaction rather curious, but she didn’t press her friend. It was just nice to spend time together sharing a hobby they both enjoyed. For a girl who had started life with no friends of her own, Naminé was lucky to have so many now.
The next time she met with her friends, it was for a picnic on Rapunzel’s world, in a clearing in the woods near a small pool. The weather was perfect, sunny with a breeze blowing dandelions and flower petals through the air, and she and Sora and Rapunzel were all cloud gazing after a delicious lunch of sandwiches and cookies and lemonade.
“See that one right there?” Rapunzel said, pointing up at the sky. “It looks like Maximus.”
“It sure does!” Sora put his hand behind his neck and grinned. “The sky’s full of all sorts of interesting clouds today.”
“I wish I had my sketchbook with me,” Naminé said with a sigh. “I’d love to draw all of them.”
“Take a picture with your Gummiphone then,” Sora suggested. “You can always draw it later based off of that.”
“I’d like to, but I’ve run out of room in my sketchbook. I could really use some new pencils, too.”
Sora and Rapunzel exchanged glances, and Sora grinned.
“Naminé, you should come to the castle,” Rapunzel said. “I’d love to show you some of my art supplies. Have you ever tried painting before?”
Naminé shook her head. “No, I haven’t, but I’d love to. Thank you for the invitation.”
“What are we waiting for? Let’s go now!” Sora sat up and sprang to his feet.
The three of them spent the rest of the afternoon trying out Rapunzel’s art supplies. Well, more like Rapunzel showed Naminé her things and let her try them out while Sora kept typing away at his Gummiphone. Naminé giggled at how he still typed with one finger, like a bird pecking at grains of rice.
“There we go,” he said all of a sudden, then put his phone in his pocket. “What’d I miss?”
Naminé and Rapunzel both giggled and showed him what they’d made: a painting to hang on the walls of Naminé’s room in Twilight Town. It was of the beautiful woods where they’d had the picnic with dandelions flower petals floating through the air. As soon as she got home, she put it up and gave it a satisfied nod.
The days flew by until at last it was the anniversary of her rebirth. There was a knock on the door late in the afternoon, and when she went to get it, she was surprised to see Riku and Roxas waiting there for her.
“Hey Naminé,” Roxas greeted with a grin. His eyes were playful, like he had a big secret he couldn’t wait to share.
“Come with us, there’s something we’d like to show you,” Riku added, and she ducked back inside to grab a few things before following them through the woods and to the Old Mansion.
“Why are we here?” she asked.
“You’ll see,” was all Roxas and Riku said, and she followed them inside. She was shocked by how nice the entrance looked, like someone had been in here and cleaned things up—
“Surprise!”
She gasped as she entered the foyer. A huge banner hanging from the stairs read Happy Birthday Naminé, and all her friends were gathered around a large table in the center of the room. The evening light shone through the window behind them, pink and purple and blue, another gorgeous twilight on this world she called home now.
“Happy Birthday Naminé!” her friends all cheered, and she couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face. So this was what they had been plotting and planning all this time. Roxas grinned and grabbed a camera to take a few shots, and Sora and Riku had some of those confetti poppers that they popped with loud crackling noises.
The seashell decorations were yellow and the star candles were blue on the cake Xion held. Axel lit the candles, and they cast flickering lights and shadows over everyone’s faces.
Kairi leaned close and murmured, “Make a wish, but keep it secret.”
“A secret?” Naminé asked, tilting her head.
“It won’t come true if you tell us,” Ven explained, and Terra nodded.
As Naminé looked at the faces of her friends, what she should wish for became clear. She knew, deep in her heart, what she wanted more than anything.
With that, she blew out the candles, and everyone cheered loudly. Aqua swept the cake out of Xion’s hands so she could cut it properly, and then everyone sat around the table. The cake was delicious, vanilla and lemon, and after everyone was done eating, it was time for Naminé to open her presents.
“Here!” Sora said, his eyes shining as he handed her the first one. “It’s from all of us.”
Naminé’s hands shook as she removed the wrapping paper. She wasn’t used to getting gifts, and it took her some time to free the box. But once she did, she couldn’t have stopped the smile on her face even if she’d wanted to.
“They’re like the paints Rapunzel has! And in all the colors I like too.” She hugged the box to her chest. “Oh, thank you so much everyone, I can’t wait to use these.”
When she was finished unwrapping the rest of her presents, more art supplies and nice jewelry and cute clothes, she thanked her friends for making this such a wonderful birthday night. But there was one last thing that would make it truly perfect.
“If you wouldn’t mind,” Naminé said, “let’s make a painting together. So we have something to help us remember tonight.”
Naminé loved drawing on her own, but drawing with her friends was truly wonderful. Everyone brought their own unique spark to the table. And when the painting was finished, it was one huge flowing mosaic of color and life and creativity. Sure, it wasn’t a masterpiece, but it was something truly unique that only they could have made. And that was why it was a work of art. Not because it was perfect or technically skilled, but because it had their hearts poured into it.
Naminé couldn’t have asked for a better way to commemorate her birthday.
