Im sorry but nowadays, when I watch/read MHA, I faze out and suddenly find myself in a McDonald's driveway. I feel like MHA kinda lost its magic, like not all of it, but it's not as hype as it used to be. But in the beginning, MHA encouraged me to get fit when I saw Deku preparing to handle OFA, so I'll give them that (even though that motivation only lasted for two weeks 😭)

Now, im just really interested in the fandom instead of the anime/manga

McDonald’s driveway LMAOODJFKb… so harsh but so true, and it’s hard to say whether the loss of hype is due to the story itself or just… the regard that people have for it nowadays (and I say this because I’m not sure which ur referring to).

I definitely think the community itself has gotten a little more dull (given that we’re no longer all stuck at home)… but part of me also feels like hori probably feels the same as this… and that contributes, too.

I’m not sure if you saw it, but in some of my previous tags i talked about how he actually switched to an editor that was notorious for “ruining” mangas, so I see that being part of problem… but also one thing that really just jumps to mind as we talk abt this is how MHA went from dealing with kind of complex moral problems to… “villains are bad and we must fight them!!!!” (Alongside the general rushing of the storyline).

So idkkkk. I feel the same as u in sort of a melancholy way. I want to keep liking the show for what it is… but it’s just no longer what it used to be (like you said). Whether it’s the pandemic, the fandom itself, the story, hori, his editor… whatever…….. it doesn’t have the sparkle that it used to bc it feels like we just keep being disappointed or rushed through the important parts.

But it’s good we have our little fandom, and hopefully we continue to have it, however the show proceeds.

Short answer: I’m absolutely fine with the latter.

Long answer:

Here’s my stance on shipping, and more specifically on erasermic since that is the main thing Mic folk ship…

I do not, at this time, ship erasermic. However, I don’t want people to read that and believe I am anti-erasermic. If Horikoshi writes it and makes them canon by the end of the series, fantastic. I’m all for it. I’m sorry to say I’m just not a huge fan of the way the majority of the fan base ships them. Most of the stuff I see coming from erasermic stuff is Mic being treated like an accessory to Aizawa or vice versa (Like what you’re talking about here), forcing crushes between each other where they don’t exist (Example: Young Aizawa looking at photos of cats on his phone and someone photoshopping that to look like he’s blushing hard while looking at pictures of Mic in the Vigilantes flashback), pretending Shirakumo doesn’t exist or rooting for him to stay dead because he’s a threat to erasermic, and worst of all, them being sexualized to shit. I’ve gotten angry ‘homophobe’ remarks slammed at me for not shipping them as well, but I could easily turn around and call those people ‘aphobes’ for not respecting my own opinion and interpretations of them. I also just don’t want to fall deep into a brainrot of a ship that may not wind up canon and then be disappointed. Ya know? I’d rather let Hori tell his story first before I’m on board to ship anything.

I’m aro/ace, and Aizawa, to me, is the most aro/ace character I’ve ever seen in media. I cannot tell you how liberating it was for me to watch Aizawa shoot Joke’s advances on him down so fast when most of the time the characters would be gullible enough for fall for stupid shit like that and it’s so tiring. He’s not even phased by Midnight’s shit like in the school briefs where she tells him ‘you must be boring in bed’ and he responds ‘bed? I prefer sleeping bag’. However, and this is the best part to me, just because I feel like Aizawa is aro/ace doesn’t mean an aro/ace cannot love cause this is a common misconception about aro/aces. I strongly believe we have seen Aizawa love someone, just not the common type of love most people think of, and that’s with Shirakumo. Just look at the Vigilantes story, the way Aizawa looks at him is like the man is the light of his life, the way Shirakumo’s voice was still in his head when he took down the big villain despite him being dead, or how he lost it and broke down when he found out what happened to him after he died. It cannot be denied that Shirakumo has had such an immense impact on his life. This love Aizawa has for him is not romantic or sexual in nature, but that of a deep emotional attachment. Ship or not, there is no type of love more beautiful or relatable to me than that. Yet, the majority of Aizawa’s fan base sexualizes the fuck out of the dude and want to believe he’s a wild ass horn dog without a care in the world. While I am not going to go and tell people what to do, it still hurts to see all of that kind of stuff, y’know? It is really really hard and lonely to be someone who is aro/ace among all of that stuff, so I just kinda sit in my own little corner of the net and let people who want to approach me talk to me and be my friend despite it all.

Meanwhile, Mic.. Mic is just kinda… There. Even though Mic is my fav, he’s always been a total wildcard to me when it comes to love and relationships just because I feel like we don’t get enough about him or his inner thoughts and who he is (which is what I am PRAYING we’re about to get with Ch 373+). I mean, I GET why people ship Mic with Aizawa. I do. People like you, and even myself, want Mic to be loved and happy (although, my inner aro/ace coming out again, you don’t NEED a relationship to be happy) and Aizawa is the one person we know is closest to him and always has his back. Does Mic have feelings for Aizawa? It’s entirely possible. I have no denial on Mic’s side of it. But, after everything I just said about Aizawa, Aizawa has not displayed any feelings like that towards Mic and I need this relationship to go both ways if I’m ever gonna ship it. We also don’t really know too much about Mic and his life most especially beyond the 3 dumbigos. He’s always seemed kinda aloof to me like when he was just kinda standing around awkwardly (if not uncomfortable) when Midnight was around in the Vigis flashbacks. Even though he’s loud and social af, I don’t think we’ve really seen him be much of a flirt either. Just know he has that one line where he says ‘my voice breaks ladies hearts and reinforced glass into a million pieces’ and I interpret that as him trying to get with the ladies, but he’s either such a loud mouth or so bad at talking to women that he sucks at it just like Franky from SxF lol (poor guys). I’ve personally settled on him as being demisexual for now. Dude could be bi or gay af or as straight as an arrow for all I know. Respectfully, to each their known with how they interpret him on that though.

But yeah, if people wanna be my friend and talk to me about Mic stuff or MHA stuff in general without involving shipping. That’d be lovely and I’d appreciate that lots.

do we think hori is mad at himself for writing mha as relatively pg-13? only bc it caught on and then he couldnt change his target audience? cuz i feel like all this... blood and guts at the end stuff may actually have to do w/ the fact that he wasn’t able to apply darker concepts earlier and now trying to make up for writing something mildly unstimulating to a wider audience and even himself by... doing whatever he’s doing now (or even just ending it).

i guess that’s a huge stretch but what i mean is like. hori really has an amazing artstyle. that’s an indisputable fact. but i can see how someone might argue that it’s relatively childish and/or cartoony... so i guess i’m just wondering if we think he was forced to dumb down his own story cuz... that’s what people expected of him/the art style/the setup.

and i only really mention it bc... im someone who loves the visual style of children’s animation but doesn’t necessarily want to watch a children’s storyline... so i just think.... hori... why are things going weirdly now? why are u so ready to be done w/ ur story?

plus we all know he’s a freak so. idk. nevermind.

Steam Deck First Impressions

For anyone unaware, the Steam Deck is a handheld gaming computer developed by Valve with the main purpose of getting their Steam library onto a portable platform. After the their commercial flop of the home console the Steam Machine, they basically shifted towards a number of solutions to make sure their next attempt to bring Steam games to more people would go a little smoother. Enter the Steam Deck, a device that's best described as a chunkier yet beefier Nintendo Switch that is specifically tailored to run Steam games quickly and conveniently. I've been using it for roughly a week and half now and wanted to share some of my first impressions.

The physical design is pretty good. While it's a bit big to be going in any pockets and a bit heavy too, it's ergonomically very fitting to the hands. There's enough to hold onto so that makes it feel a bit lighter and to be fair, it's not as big as the promotional materials lead me to believe. For size comparison, it's about as long as the Switch with the Hori Split Pad Pro joycons on, though still thicker. Or relatively similar in size and feel to the Wii U Gamepad, though notably heavier than that. I got the 512GB model but it does have a microSD card slot for external storage expansion. There's also a headphone jack and a USB-C port for charging and peripherals. I tested these out some with headphones and a headset in the jack. I used the USB port to connect a mouse, a keyboard, a controller, and a USB hub to do all three at once no problem. I even connected a USB-C to HDMI cable to use it on my TV in the meantime waiting for the official dock to come out (which has at the time of writing this). I didn't test anything with the bluetooth connection but most of the USB stuff I connected with a USB-A to USB-C adapter with no issues.

After a quick setup I was logged in and ready to start using the Deck. The SteamOS interface here is pretty smooth aside from a few pages that require touch input or a mouse to navigate. You can tweak some settings but the biggest ones are brightness and frames per second because these will make a noticeable difference in battery life. While it's only a 1280x720 16:10 LCD display, being able to play in 60fps with this much powerful hardware is definitely a jump up from a Switch in handheld mode. One of my absolute favorite things they've implemented on the Deck is the compatibility system. Fixed specs means they can test if games are compatible or not pretty easily. Anything with a green check mark is considered great on Deck with full compatibility. A yellow “i” means it'll work but some features may not be ideal for the Deck such as interface, text, and so on. There are unsupported titles which may work just fine but are considered too much of a hassle to get working, among others I'm sure just won't work. I haven't found any yet that failed to launch or run but I did have one poorly optimized indie game become more trouble than it was worth to fix. And then there are the question mark ones that aren't tested enough to categorize. The reason I love this compatibility system is because I can just open up the store or the library, filter for everything with a green check mark, download, and I'm playing. No need to hunt through specs and hope it'll magically work with my configuration.

It's also even easier to play because most games will pick a default template for the Steam Deck controls, but you can also change templates to other presets or custom community ones. Plus the trackpads, touch screen, and extra back buttons give you lots of extra inputs and ways to control games otherwise not well suited to controller inputs. The innards of this machine are pretty respectable as well. Sure, it's no match for a full gaming rig, but for a portable system it does an admirable job delivering great performance and visuals. It feels so nice to just turn on a game, have it work, and be able to play with controller-type controls. I mostly have been watching YouTube stuff on the side while playing and it's great. No need to setup at my computer and plug in all my stuff. I can just pick this up, turn it on, and go. You do need internet for the cloud sync or downloading games, though. Cloud sync actually lets you switch between that and your PC pretty seamlessly. You can also use the auto-suspend of putting the Deck to sleep to resume games later without closing or leaving the system on. So easy and convenient and capable.

Is the Steam Deck a Nintendo Switch killer? Probably not. The libraries don't really overlap a ton so if anything it's like a Switch companion because if you already like playing games that way then you'll probably be more enticed to get through your Steam backlog on the Deck. It could replace it if you used a Switch emulator but that's not likely very legal. And to be fair, while I know you can do tons more with the Steam Deck in terms of emulators and dual booting operating systems and all that, I really just got it to play Steam games. That's what it was made for. And in that regard I think it excels incredibly well. It's a much cheaper alternative to gaming laptop for the ease of portable PC gaming. It's easier to pick up and play at a moments notice to relax than on a PC too. It can play a lot more games with more options and content than modern consoles and handhelds as well. And for anyone on the fence about which way to lean between console and PC, this comes in not only as a good midpoint experience, but also a midpoint price. It's just so impressive and it really does exactly what I've wanted for my Steam games for the longest time. It gives me the ability to spend less time troubleshooting and more time actually playing. If you think you'll like the Steam Deck already, you probably will. Go for it. It's worth it. But we'll see how it holds up past these first impressions as time goes on. I'll keep ya posted. Until then, thanks for listening to me ramble. It's just really nice to still find reasons to be excited about gaming.

Hey! I’ve been following you for a long time, and I used to talk with you about Bob’s Burgers! Since then, I’ve been watching you go off about MHA, but I never had any intention of watching it myself until I started seeing more clips of the villains and hawks. I’m still trying to figure out if I’m sold on watching it or not, so… what is it that you enjoy about the show?

Also, have you started the newest season of Bob’s Burgers? Please please tell me you still watch it.

Personally, I love the cast the most of all. There are so many interesting, funny, tragic, sweet, horrid, kind and just so well written characters, way more than you first think.

And because of that, there are a lot of really interesting relationships. I also love the focus on platonic love, and the way Hori manages to show so many types of love, friendship, and family. Also, the way he explores darker themes and relationships are also really well done, imo!

I also love the world building and politics, and the constant underlaying message of hope.

If you're gonna be an anime only, I would 100% sell it on the fact that it just... looks cool. All the quirks, the costumes and character designs, they're fun in the manga, but I was very pleasantly surprised when I actually started the anime!

The last bonus for me is the big fandom tho. I have been in smaller fandoms for YEARS, and having a ao3 page full of fics for every imaginable ship, friendship, au, and character is truly an amazing feeling!

And yes, dude of course I still watch Bob's, I'm in the middle of a rewatch rn haha! I haven't seen any of the ongoing season yet, I usually wait until the middle, so I have a decent amount of episodes!

But I've seen everything up to that, including the movie, which I adored!! Have you seen the movie yet?? If so, what did you think?? <3

I’m gonna point out EVERYTHING I noticed about this one scene.

The colors... Look at the rainbow colors Hori did... You already know what I’m gonna say about that lmfao. It’s gay.

They are forming a heart... I’m not even joking this looks like something you would see when a ship becomes canon. Hori is too loud. You can tell that this was supposed to be a huge moment for BakuDeku.

THEN THIS SONG STARTS F*CKING PLAYING?!?! The melody to it is so beautiful. Thats why you probably cried while watching the movie. This song is called Might+U by Makayla Phillips you can search for it!

Bnha chap 302 was crazy! So many stuff have been revealed! What did u think of it?

(So before I start, I just want to say, sorry it took me a few days to answer this. when discussion recent chapters of MHA, I’m trying now to wait for the official release before posting anything. I know I haven’t always been the best when using scans vs official releases, but I’m going to try and make this more a thing. Given some flack I’ve received in the past, as well as recent crack downs by shueisha. So you can send me asks like this, please I’m not discouraging it. but you’re just going to have to wait till after the official releases.)

With the preamble out of the way OH MY GOD! This flashback chapters are amazing! Like this has been the kind of stuff I’ve been waiting for in MHA after the metric crap ton of build up by Horikoshi. And its not disappointed.

First, I do likeEndeavor’s gradual decline into is asshole self from Shoto’s memory. It’s vocally recognized that Endeavor is breaking societal taboos with his Quirk Marriage. Not only his selfish wishes to have an ultimate child to surpass All Might, but Toya is basically one of the worst combinations of this selective breeding. Being that he has stronger fire than Endeavor, but he has resistance to cold temperature so he’s just burning his body.

Yet Endeavor still is more focused on surpassing All Might. And when he comes to the realization that Toya will never surpass All Might, he decides to make a his real ultimate child. Now the reason I like this is because this isn’t Endeavor just being like “I need to surpass All Might with the perfect child”, its also, “I need to create my ideal child which will surpass All Might and act as a deterrent to Toya wanting to be a hero.”

Now, I love this scene, not just because no matter how Endeavor tries to justify his actions, he is still ultimately breaking societal conventions just to selfishly surpass his rival. But it also shows, Endeavor is aware of Toya’s feelings. He KNOWS Toya won’t stop trying to be a hero. He’s not some ignorant to his son wanting to live up to his dream of the ultimate hero. But his plan to stop Toya is not altruistic. It’s still selfish. His plan is literally to make an actually superior child, just to get his son to give e up. Its probably the worst thing you can do.

And most recently in 302, when that doesn’t work and Toya still burns himself and tries to attack Shoto. Endeavor finally just decides to no longer deal with this. personally. He is leaving Toya to Rei and is just going to focus on Shoto. He’s pushing a problem onto someone else and NOW he’s just ignoring it.

And then he just doubles down worse from there. Actually becoming more of the abuser that Shoto and Natsuo remember. All because Rei couldn’t keep Toya in line. Even though Toya was his son too.

It’s been awhile since we have seen Endeavor as the antagonistic figure. And I know the story of Endeavor will always be a tough one because its ultimately one trying to redeem an abuser. And I like that in this flashback, we are really reminded of why Endeavor wants atonement, because what he did to his family was wrong. And now we’re actually seeing it. Hell, some of it is more uncomfortable because we now see, its not like Endeavor was so pure evil psychopath, he gradually slipped from some wrong-headed jerk who was breaking taboos who is aware he’s doing bad things but pushing forward to ignoring his problems he’s caused to finally lashing out at his family as if it’s not also his responsibility.

And we see a man who is regretful. But he still made mistakes. And I like that this hasn’t just been for the audience, this has been for Endeavor. Because he can no longer keep those skeletons in his closet nor is he in a position to throw himself a pity party. Again, we still have to wait a few chapters before we see like how this pays off. But Rei is reminding him that if he really wants to make things better and prove he’s a better person, then let’s start by getting his house in order.

Speaking of Rei, this has been a pretty interesting character study for her as well. We see Rei as pretty much a passive player both in the series up to this point being in a hospital, but also in this flashback. She agrees to be Enji’s wife and while she’ll speak up, she doesn’t stop Endeavor from having more kids. Nor does she stop him from really separating the kids. She also brings it up that like Endeavor, she didn’t really “see” what was really going on with Toya.

While Endeavor may have thought a deterrent of making him Toya give up would work, Rei try to just talk to Toya about looking beyond his father, but its not just wanting his father’s attention that is driving Toya mad. Its the fact that his birth was solely to make an ultimate Quirk users and if he’s not then his whole creation is pointless.

Because at he core, she is still complacent with this arrangement. From her family to the fact that when she can’t actually stand up to Enji, she then starts lashing out at the children who remind her of them. She has hurt her children too and its wrong. But unlike Endeavor who is really now just trying to come to grips with that, Rei has clearly stewed in that self loathing for a while. And now, she’s not being passive, she’s now taking a stand and being the one who needs to pull Endeavor out of his own self-pity.

Its very nice to see this character who, like Endeavor, has transformed over the course of this union.

Now what does this mean for their marriage? As this seems to be the root cause of here passivity. I’m not sure. But Hori has given me no reason to think he’ll do something crazy with it. So I’m going to wait and see.

Now onto the man himself, Toya. Man finding out about Dabi has been a trip. Because at first it seems like he just wants his dad’s attention. To be proud of him. But its more than just that. Toya has a fire in him that won’t go out.

Toya’s “fire” isn’t this drive to be number 1 hero and get the glory. Its literally the validation of his existence. Because he was made to surpass All Might. If Toya can’t do that, then he failed at his existence.

It really pulls back that Dabi doesn’t hate Endeavor because of abuse like Rei, Shoto and Natsuo. Dabi hates Endeavor because he was born solely to fulfill his mission, and when he was physically incapable of doing so, he replaced him with a child who could. It hurts to watch.

Because Dabi will never get over the fact of why he’s here in the first place, I think a lot of kids when they get older have that realization about why they’re here is because of their parents. And Toya can literally trace why his father made him. As he recalled with Snatch.

Just contemplating his family and why he’s here. He lost it.

We also get some cool details on Dabi’s powers. With his flames growing even stronger from red to blue, but also that the burns around his chest that we first saw in his video is intentionally so he could both hide the burns but also avoid hurting him.

There’s also the fact that his flames are tied to his emotions. Probably why whenever we see Dabi he’s mostly irate and disinterested. But when he finally had to get infront of Endeavor and the world, Dabi lets all his emotions come out. Letting him use flash fire and be wary more gleeful in his destruction. Yet we see that any times he cranks up his emotions, he always starts crying. Like he did with Snatch and Hawks. Which is such a subtle touch that I love.

There’s also his unique resentment towards the women in his family more than Natsuo. Now Endeavor we know he clearly hates, but when it came to Natsuo, he ignored him. But he knew Rei and Fuyumi the longest, and they did nothing for the longest time.

We also see the beginning of Dabi’s use of faux concern about society and using it as a way to turn people on Endeavor.

Dabi has stated he doesn’t care about the League of Villains. Even in his big speech about how its Endeavor’s fire that let him kill people, he knows that’s a lie too. He would talk about confiding in his beloved brother, but if it meant making his dad suffer, he would’ve killed him.

Dabi’s hate is for one man, and if he can use anything to make Endeavor’s existence a living hell, he’ll use it. And we see that his hate is justified, but he will wrap that hate in a way to get others to feel like him. Its very effective.

Its just nice to see a villain who gets a bunch of build up LIVE up to all his hype. Its not like a let down, its just opening more doors to explore.

And now we get to the Todoroki family. Where do we go from here? Well Dabi isn’t just an Endeavor problem or a Rei problem, its a family problem. They all share the burden and Dabi will be their goal.

And I like this because, for the most part, Shoto completed his arc in the Sports Festival of hating his dad, but then accepting this is his power and looking beyond Enji. And while that wasn’t the end as he still has to make his choice on wether to accept his dad as a changed man or not, that’s more part of Endeavor’s goal. Shoto has been sorta like Deku and Bakugo with a focus on being number 1.

But now he has real and true personal motivation that no one but this family can really address and I am excited. I’m glad that the prominent characters of this series like Shoto has something to do. I get that all the kids in UA will never truly get this treatment. They have focus, but they are still mainly supporting cast. But having a main character really be able to justify why they’re up in front is great. I’m eager to see what awaits the Todoroki family in the future.

Anon the thought of Satoru keeping his infinity off for Suguru and Shoko exclusively and of Suguru being still an exception even after everything till the very end keeps me up at night it’s my favorite headcanon I !!!! love just how deliberate on Satoru’s part every received touch is, it makes the fact that he’s willing to be touched by them so much more significant 😭😭

I don't know if u recieved this question before? But what make u like Hawks?

Wooooo where do I start?

What sucked me in right away is how charming he is the moment he appears. First of all, it was a big surprise seeing that this was the guy behind Japan’s top 2 bara men.

Look at ‘im! Tiny little bird boy!

And he’s just so expressive. And that’s not to say other characters aren’t, but dayum, what a first impression!

Look at how animated he is!

Each and every movement was securing Hawks’s grip on my heart. This all happens during his introductory chapter!

Warning: Spoilers and me just rambling without any direction.

And then there’s his personality. Now, we all thought he was a bit of a douche when he first appeared. So did I...and I loved it! Watching him speak with no filter on stage was golden. Still love that diss on Endeavor.

Endeavor is lucky that he doesn’t burn easily or else that comment would have left him writhing in pain.

Also while we’re here I wanna talk about a small anime change that always bothered me. The scene where he and flame daddy are out on a stroll.

This scene was meant to show just how amazing Hawks’s quirk is and how efficient he is at his job, chatting with Endeavor while handling problems left and right. I don’t think the anime captures the chaos around them well. Watch that scene and compare it to the manga panels.

There are feathers constantly leaving his wings and flying around. He’s talking to a fan while helping a granny far away from him. It’s clear that everything is happening at once, yet he remains calm and handles it all like a pro.

In the anime, they cut from one incident to another. It still gets the point across, but it feels a lot slower. Even when he was giving autographs, they left out the girls and kids feeling up his wings. When I first read this, I was overwhelmed, but I didn’t get that feeling in the anime! I was just really excited to see how wild that part would look animated, so it was a bit of a downer.

Where was I going before this? Right. So everything this bastard does raises himself on my Thirst Meter. Like, it low-key bothers me that he eats with his gloves on please take them off they’ll get greasy. But his gloved hands are hot so I ain’t mad. Hori’s art is hand porn.

And then Hawks shows off how he’s a legendary-rank support character. Rescuing everyone caught in the middle of the High-End fight, picking up falling debris, and also being a feather swordsman fuck I can’t handle this.

Also lol.

He proceeds to show us more of his deceptive skills by faking us out. Like that part when Dabi comes in and Hawks is like “oh no, poor little me only has my tiny feathers left. Whatever shall I do?”

But then we see that the sly bastard had a big feather at the ready. If Mirko didn’t come hopping in, he was ready to stab a bitch.

Dabi is a Fire/Dark type, so False Surrender wouldn’t have done much damage anyway.

But wait a minute....ahhh shiiiit Hawks is with Dabi! He was a bad guy all along!

lol jk he’s a hero that’s pretending to be a hero who hates heroes and sides with villains thus making him a villain himself.

I LOVE IT.

Many fans call Hawks a morally grey character. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think so. I think he’s very much a good guy. He’s compassionate to the point where he sympathizes with everyone, villains included. He doesn’t like doing shit to appease the villains. He was so broken up about Endeavor’s injuries that his stubble fell off for a panel. AND THOSE LOOK LIKE TEAR STAINS, MY DUDES.

But he also doesn’t like seriously harming the villains. I never get tired of that somber expression when he realizes Twice isn’t gonna back down.

Some say that the speck in that panel might be a teardrop but it’s hard to know for sure.

Anyway I’m not here to talk meta cause I suck at that. I love Hawks because he’s a cheeky handsome good-hearted bastard who happens to be part bird and I love birds and I hope Tokoyami gives his wounded and possibly wingless ass a hug.
