14. bl you think is underrated

ooh this is a tricky one, bc i can definitely tell you what i think is overrated (but thats not the question...), plus im always gonna think my favourites are underrated bc everyone should love them but i digress. i wanna highlight 3 shows/things bc the first one is a short series and then a movie and thats his. idk if it's bc its a few years old now but when i watched this show and then the film i just adored it. first of all, the show is the perfect kind of chill watch where not really much happens and yet a lot happens?? thats how me and my sister affectionately describe our favourite kind of shows bc they deal in the normal and everyday and manage to make it seem huge and beautiful and this series does that with one of my favourite tropes that i love to see crop up in j-bls which is an escape to the beach (and later the countryside), plus the show has the most awesome and well done early 2000s aesthetic that just fills me with nostalgia. but the film is a whole other thing. it pulls an old fashioned cupcake/cherry magic and gives us adults but unlike them shows us a story that is very grounded and real and serious, like they really said lets take this bl and actually make it a story about parenting and what a family can be and show just how complicated it all is and sometimes there is no winning and thats life. god its just beautiful, and theres still a deep and meaningful love story at the heart of it. just go watch it now if you haven't, or rewatch it if you haven't for a while.

second im picking eien no kinou and im prefacing this by saying i get why less people talk about this bc its not fun and some people dont wanna watch a story they know will be sad, but its also so important that it exists and i think it touches on some really tough topics and manages to tell them beautifully. and bc i havent seen much of what ppl say about this, idk what any consensus takes are but i felt very emotional watching this through the lens of erasure of queer relationships when it comes to loss, how sometimes when people aren't out or cant share their relationship, they become lost, or invisible, when someone is lost. and i mean... the queer experience is all-encompassing and such grief is something that should also be talked about when queerness can affect that process in a specific way, and while i dont think its easy to watch or revisit, its nevertheless important and beautiful

ive talked about some more heavy shows so i'm ending with if its with you, which is recent but even i pushed it to the side a little bc i liked i cannot reach you so much, but this show is kinda like the opposite to the ones above. i feel like people like a middle ground in their shows between drama and comfort, so while people dont talk as much about serious or sad shows, they also dont talk about the shows that are just nice. and this show is just that, bc its all about teaching someone thats had a bad experience that there is simple kindness in the world and its so heart-warming. i'll never forget the way ryuuji responded in that last ep when amane got nervous around the other kids, how he thought it would be this big think that he'd be mad about bc that's what happens in every show, but ryuuji was just like yeah its ok i understand and im not mad. just the pure kindness this show has to people feeling the way they feel is so refreshing and beautiful and it captures the high school simplicity of it all in a way that makes you step back as someone older and think huh yeah it really is just that easy, its just about happiness.

anyway, between this and the last response, i think by j-bl bias is jumping out a bit too much but thats the end of my rant, thank you for coming to my ted talk

1/2 and we are now at 5x11 and he is so fucking happy because Brian said i love you and they are back together. He’s smiling so big its actually hilarious.

And the scene opens with Brian at church ‘what the fuck is going on? WHO FUCKING DIED?! DID THEY KILL MIKE? I mean he was an annoying little shit but that’s a bit much. WHY IS BRIAN IN A COFFIN?! WHAT THE FUCK WAS- oh thank fuck its a dream. A horrible one at that.’ ‘Has Brian not been home to shower, fucking hell, i feel so fucking bad for him. Ted is fully in survival mode huh?’ ‘Blondie is at the hospital! Wheres Brian! I need the happy couple back on the screen. Fucking hell Emy is scared now. Okay so Mike is alive and well, good. Now back to Brian and Justin’ And we are at the scene with Brian and Cynthia now ‘i fucking love these two. Look how he cares for everyone. He has a big fucking heart and it pisses me off that people pretend he doesn’t.’ And WE ARE AT THE FIRST PROPOSAL SCENE!!! *said with huge excitement and then it died down* ‘BRIAN AND JUSTIN AT HIS umm place…i love when they mock each other. Ahhh young LOVE. Country manor? Since when has that been a dream? I love seeing Brian around Justin when he works. I have no clue why but I do.’ Brian asks if he heard what he said to him last night ‘yes, i did Brian! Over the sound of my own tears but i heard it! *he paused it RIGHT BEFORE THE PROPOSAL AND I WANTED TO SCREAM* why the fuck is blondie being dismissive..bro that’s not what i wrote in the script inside my little brain *plays ep and Brian propose* um W- WHAT. *he moves forward while sitting as if he heard wrong and then pauses it when Brian talks about his dream* i hate *waves his cast to the tv and scoffs* but i also hate how everyone keeps doubting his change. Like bro let that man change. But also huh *plays ep* NOT WITHOUT HIM! So wait, hold the fuck up. Brian says he loves him. And they kiss. And he..*scoffs again* proposes. And then Blondie just says thanks and thats it? So THEYRE NOT TOGETHER?’ And we are with Ted and Brian at the club ‘i actually get why he doesn’t wanna reopen the club again. It is kinda weird in a way..i dont know. Oh Ted is not in a good shape. Whats going on with everyone’ We are now at the scene with Mel, Linds and Justin and mel says its good they realized what they had before its too late ‘PLEASE TELL ME THAT THIS MAKES BLONDIE RETHINK SOME STUFF…i still hate the..you know what? Im gonna be quiet and not judge. Just go back to Brian’ and we are at the scene with Jen and Brian ‘JEN AND BRIAN!! MY FAVORITE PEOPLE! FINALLY! (She says the judy line) i fucking love this woman! And look so does Brian! They shouldve had more scenes together, this wouldve been amazing (jen says he wants to sell the loft) WHAT?! Why? So not panic then why the fuck is he selling? What is happening? (Brian tells about the proposal) oh my god. HE TOLD HER? Holy fucking shit. *starts laughing cause jen offers pills* i love her but im sure he has some stronger shit in his drawer. OF COURSE SHES SORRY HES NOT HER SON IN LAW! This is the mother he shouldve had. Remember their first scene? I love them’ The scene with Brian and Ben happens ‘man fuck every single one of those protestors. Go to hell. BEAT HIS ASS BEN! I cannot believe that Brian is the collected and calm one. My boy is growing.’ ‘Ah fuck thats why Ted is acting this way. Poor fucking guy. But thats not your fault, man. Hate to say it Teddy but the dude is right, youre not god..that dude sucks’ Brian says he calls him Zen Ben ‘i call you boring. Once again Brian is better than me. It’s still fuck Mike tho *looks at me* what? i can say it now, he’s alive’ Mel and Linds talk about Canada ‘what the fuck is she on? Does she think that this type of shit won’t happen anywhere else?’ And we are at the second proposal now: ‘where the fuck are they going? I hate this car. (It shows the house and he is suspicious and brian says ‘we do’) WE? since when do we speak French? Fuck is he talking about we? THATS WHY HE SOLD THE LOFT?! Wait he bought this for Justin?’ *he pauses tv and stares at me and then just goes back to watching*

Country manor? Since when has that been a dream? RIGHT!?! What is up with Justin this fucking season? Since when does he want to live in the middle of nowhere and be married with children? SINCE WHEN? (And also Brian told him since Day 1 that was never going to happen)

I love seeing Brian around Justin when he works. I have no clue why but I do. YES (also this inspires me for my fic ;) )

Brian asks if he heard what he said to him last night ‘yes, i did Brian! Over the sound of my own tears but i heard it! THE I LOVE YOU HEARD ROUND THE WORLD

i hate *waves his cast to the tv and scoffs* but i also hate how everyone keeps doubting his change. <- Yes on both counts. Like everyone doubts his change so he reverts to what he’s always been and then everyone says “see, it wasn’t real.” But also WTF is this sudden focus on marriage? I hate it. It makes no sense. Leave Ben and Mikey to be the happy married boring couple and let Brian and Justin stay themselves.

This Brian and Jen scene is one of my all time favorites. The two of them have come so far. And Jen is the mother Brian deserves.

Okay… onto the proposal (worst idea ever, fuck you forever writers)

ted lasso finale thoughts

Need the richmond women's team spinoff NOW!!!!!!!!!!! And it better have LESBIANS i swear to god!!!!!!!

As always the strongest part of this ep was the team dynamics. Roy joining the diamond dogs. Isaac with the penalty kick!!!! The fucking dance sequence callback T^T theres no place like afc richmond <3 Them winning the match but losing the whole thing was a good balance of success vs realism. I didn't know enough about football to predict it beforehand LOL but that probably worked in my favor bc i genuinely didnt know whether they would win or lose. Rebecca and ted's friendship was heartwarming as always. I was living in fear that they'd become a couple even though i knew that wasn't what the writers were going for, so I probably need to rewatch to fully enjoy it.

Tedependent lost RIP. it would have made sense but at the same time im kinda glad they didn't, at least this season. trent was still very much a side character and i just don't think the story beats were there for tedtrent endgame. the story would have had to been constructed differently, or it would need another season. I also liked how the main focus was ted & rebecca's friendship rather than either of their romantic relationships. I love a good romance but its not what this story is about.

Thats part of the reason why the dutchman return felt cheap to me lol. Sorry rebecca im always rooting for you but i just wasn't feeling it. Another part of that is probably because Ted and Trent had a much stronger foundation and we still didn't get to see even their friendship develop as much as i would have liked. Maybe ive been spoiled by all the trent this season idk. but i was just hoping for a little more. After all, it's not lost on me that we only got one confirmed gay couple at the end (we don't even know anything about Michael!!! Ugh sorry Im a michael hater he's so boring.)

Speaking of boring, I simply do not care about ted's family. So him moving back was... not really compelling for me. like none of the kansas characters are fleshed out at all. i wish they had done something more interesting with them so i could actually get invested. There was something there with michelle dating their couples therapist, but it ended up falling flat imo. Also Michelle being a teacher is a total copout, I would have preferred if she had an unexpected job that revealed a new side to her. Give her a personality outside of being a wife/mother/caretaker please and thank you.

I did like how Royjamie was left openended!!! thats the ship i care most abt and i knew it wasnt going to *actually* happen so im satisfied with what we got. I am in the (im assuming) minority of royjamie enjoyers that is against roykeeleyjamie. This episode really hammered it in why roy and jamie are not good for keeley LOL, but the signs have been there all along. Keeley needs to be her own boss for a bit! Roy and jamie are just not at her maturity level (lovingly), and they've got some misogyny to work through.

(I need to think on it more, but I'm pretty sure that I liked the way this episode/season handled the Roy And Jamie Are Lowkey Sexist subplot. Like the whole fighting over a woman thing is soooo trite atp, and i still dont know how i feel about them physically fighting over her or whatever. but the story was realistic about how these asshole male footballers are going to have some weird views about women, while still shutting that down those views. like not even giving them the time of day. Keeley literally shoos them out without a word LMAO. So idk need to think about it more but at least keeley didnt end up with either of them).

Hey you know who DOES deserve each other.... and makes each other better people, as represented by their football training arc.... the student is the teacher and the teacher is the student etc etc…… Anyways royjamie is real TO ME!!! (And brett goldstein and phil dunster, number one royjamie warriors. phil dunster wrote royjamie smut I will never get over that)

Overall im sad to see ted lasso go. i think i need to sit with all 3 seasons a bit more before forming my full opinion, but s1 will always have my heart. Mostly because evil jamie and evil rebecca are so so fun to watch.

#ted lasso #ted x rebecca #i mean in the first 6 theres genuine concern for the other #in the dart scene he asks whether she wants to leave and sees thats shes clearly distressed #and he decides to do sth about it #and then later when hes giving the whitman speech and he says that his dad died when he was 16 #she looks at him like #.....oh.....#and theres sadness in her eyes #i didnt notice before but 3 of these moments happen in ep 6 #still before the anxiety attack scene #i love the one where she glances at ted when jamies talking about his parents #that look she gives is like #Are you hearing this???#it gives me such mum & dad vibes #with jamie standing in between them....#!!!!#i love that in the bonfire scene they left the audience some room for interpretation because we cant see neither of their faces #so we dont know what theyre thinking exactly #but i bet ted really felt that the bonding moment with the team wasnt whole without her there #like the team is finally bonding! he's done it!#but shes not there #and she should be cause shes part of the team!!#also the Shock thats written on her face when she learns he bakes her biscuits #just SHOOK to the core #he baKES HER BISCUITS #EVERY DAY #anyway thank you for coming to my ted talk

Soooo... lets break it down!

I actually think there are going to be 2 akumatized people in this ep, cuz im pretty sure that this is Adrien:

But we also see Gorille and Gamer in the trailer with Chat Noir, so yeah. Im guessing the second akuma has some kind of power that allows him to akumatize others. Ephemeral (the word) means lasting for a very short time, so maybe he can akumatize people for a short time???

Maybe LB quickly deakumatizes Adrien or something.

So anyways...

I think the guy who can akumatize others was defeated first, in the evening. The whole thing with the nine other heroes yada yada happens then. We also get some sick nw transformations.

Im guessing Su Han sees this and was like??? Ladybug wtf?? And then ofc she tells him she couldnt reach CN. Then im guessing LB goes to find Chat and the umbrella scene happens.

Then the next morning, Adrien gets akumatized. (he looks weary and tired when he finds Gabeshits lair)

Im guessing that Gabriel suspected Adrien of being CN, so he purposely led him to his lair. Gabeshit akumatized Adrien into Ephemeral n gets the cat miraculous. Important to note that Adrien does not give it willingly, you can see the red akuma lines around his eyes when he does this.

Then the whole Marinette-detransforms-in-front-of-Shadowbitch happens. Im guessing Viperion comes in here.

I think once Adrien is deakumatized, we get the Chat Noir reveal.

So yeah. Thats what I think is going to happen. Thank you for coming to my ted-talk.

ok I have a idea as to what's happened on that jiara hug boat scene or at least what's led up to that moment. So , we see in the trailer that Sarah and John b jump off that big ship, we then see pope and cleo jump off the ship together, and in that same clip we also see Sarah and John b in the small boat. Which means, jj and kie must be together on that ship (I feel like a detective lol). So, in the same trailer, we see that jiara handshake, those outfits they're wearing are the same outfits as the hug scene, which means this is all in the same ep (I think its gonna be the last ep) and that handshake scene is clearly before the ship scene. That clip of them doing the handshake implies that they are paired up to do something on the ship, so like Sarah/John b were partners, pope and cleo are possibly partners bc they jumped off the ship together, so then kie and jj. I think there are many possible reasons as to why jj got hurt and why Kiara looks emotional and is hugging him in a passionate way, but here are some ideas: they got stuck together and one of them nearly died but they made it off the ship together, they nearly got caught by Rafe but like I said they both escaped together, OR one of them (could be jj considering he's the one who is injured) tried to protect/rescue the other. Thats my theory, I am a detective. Thankyou for listening to my ted talk.

Yes!!! This is exactly what I’m thinking.

I feel this asshole has a high chance of causing JJ’s injury. Judging by Kie’s reaction in the trailer I’m thinking JJ probably does something wreckless or selfless to get them off the boat. Consider JJ does something to ensure Kie gets off the boat, hits his head and then nearly drowns when he jumps with her. Kie FREAKS out, understandably. The likelihood of us getting CPR is also a possibility off of this. Y’ALL.

THE WAY I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT JIARA ON ANOTHER MISSION TOGETHER, hug aside. This is exactly the type of build up I want.

And… if Pope and Kie were still dating, wouldn’t the likelihood of them being paired off increase? Unless they’re paired off to do something only these specific pairs can accomplish, but come on.

it's the reveal!!!! love that for her hope shes thriving (shes not) again w the two minutes of the next episode to sync the dates

-lmaoooo so i honestly wonder why they went for the full pulling-it-out-the-throat thing but idk (an interesting foil to her getting sick for more stereotypical reasons ie s2 "people find out theyre grandparents every day"

-I LOVE THIS GEORGE HAIR

-"i'd do anything for nancy" okay but....why 👀bit of an odd reaction imo

-bess with spilling the truth again 😂and gets shot down. tragic #shetried

-wait sooooo nobody tested the fingerprints on the knife when this shit happened?? or that tech didnt exist in 2000? i mean without a body how could they even call it murder? and who told the police?? like if the drews took the baby, the dress, and said nothing, who tells the cops shes missing or even dead? how did they know to search the bluffs? who told the media/public? it had to have happened that same night because ryan said when he got there later there were already rumors she was killed. after the baby and bloody dress, only her crown, a knife, and tire tracks were left. how did anyone find anything at this remote bluff without some kind of tip off? and why on earth would they think murder and not suicide with so little evidence?? thats gotta be like suicide central, sorry for the trigger

-"a little help, lucy?!" lucy seems unable to disobey a direct request from nancy (ie "lucy, stop" from later in the ep) when nancy speaks directly to her. so maybe if nancy had spoken aloud/engaged more lucy could have appeared more? nancy said she only comes around when she wants to but what if nancy herself could do a bit more, being the last thing lucy touched and all

-so in ep 2 when nancys in jail carson says "great grandma rosalind buried her valuables in the trunk" including the knives shown here. did carson and kates families even know about nancy? how did they explain not announcing a pregnancy or birth?

-"oh." john lmfaoooo

-BESS lmaoooo and ace's looks in the background and then at seeing nick approaching lmfaooo oh no / also why on earth is she apologizing?? he dumped her but she has to be sorry he found out she fucked someone else? someone nicer pls explain to me bc i dont get it. she dont owe him shit

-george is SO CUTE lmfaoooo and so forward and he was so shook but then he was like "oh hell yeah"

-"is he a vampire?!" ik nobody i knew got that reference 😂

-this entire search of the claw is a sham. what are they even looking for. clearly a set up by tamura but why/what does he suspect them of. esp w karen as accomplice, story should be airtight so why are they still investigating?

-god ace is such a yes-man. why is he so fucking loyal?? people like him are insane. how are they real. i suspect they arent. and no matter what you do you are never worthy of their unending loyalty anyway.

-so in the Good Place nancy was the one who had the key but in reality its ryan

-wonder if lucy's listening to ryan here talking about his love and grief for her

-"you were throwing away your future on a nothing girl" - nancy & ryan - their fathers dont want them to see "troubled" kids, want them to focus on school instead --> which they both struggle with and eventually do not achieve (maybe bc they want their kids to leave horseshoe bay?) for nancy its an interesting vice for someone whos really a goody two shoes/for ryan its subverted bc karen actually did worse than him ie committed real crimes

-"stay away from my family" surprise bitch bet you thought youd seen the last of me 😉

-interestingly, ryan probably would have agreed with karen about switching the ballot boxes but he wouldnt have really understood the social consequences. both josh and karen are determined to see ryan as the bad guy when actually he didnt do anything, they did. 🤔

-karen is such a ride or die friend. again w the loyalty. if someone swapped ballot boxes for me i'd be touched. im sure going into active labor made lucy a bit upset but damn. what a friend.

-wonder when nancy starts calling her "Lucy" instead of "dead lucy"

-lucy primarily haunting her own house/love seeing this house overtaken by nature

-the concept of writing things down : starting from the first ep, nancy's journal (then and now), writing out simon cards, similar cemetary cards in the Good Place, "beautiful minding it," culminating in lucy's journal / writing it down to help figure it out/when theres too much going on to keep it inside

-"i'll make a salad" NICK LMAOOO

-wonder what happened to carson's old lawyer?

-"my testimony begins in the summer of 1999" because your story always starts with your mother's story

-lmfaoooooo this shit taking the stand is soooo never allowed but oh well

-"she stole a knife" and carson's face lmfaooooo he knows its not true but what could he fucking say?? no?

-"i love you mom, i hope you never find this." ironic bc nancy didnt want her dad to find her journal either

-lucy never wanted anyone to find out how she died d/t shame- but she didnt want carson to go to jail for it so she finally allowed it (or just couldnt refuse nancy asking)

-"i'm sorry for what you lost"/"i'm never gonna be free from them"

-awww ace/mcginnis goodbye / i wonder if ace is nervous thinking about tamura --> ace's dad since chief mcginnis covered for ace out of respect for his dads sacrifice but tamura would throw both ace and his dad under the bus just to get at nancy (get at her via ace? since he was already used as the blackmail plot device? they kinda touched in this in s2 but not fully)

-okay sooo why are they still doing this forensic analysis thing? like the whole things over so whats the point. i wonder if john had packed up and gone home what coulda happened

-nancy/carson - interrupted moments:

•family dinner interrupted by nancy's accsations

•being home after finding ted interrupted by carson's arrest

•celebration of dropped charges interrupted by nancy discovering the truth about her parentage

-"i cooked your favorite to celebrate" ironic bc shes upset that hes not her "real" dad but he IS because he knows her best. like theyre literally proving it right in front of her. vs ryan whom she doesnt really want anyway AND rejects requests to get to know her. like come on sis. his 20 years of parenting you arent going away, ever. deal w it.

-carson's little smile before he said "'mom never hurt lucy" like he knows this is the end / scott's acting here just kills me

-why did the drews come back at all? and why did kate really keep the dress? carson says she did it as a link to lucy, but did kate want to keep it to be connected to lucy? or did she bury it to keep lucy repressed? is this a positive or a negative? +keeping in attic - did lucy start to haunt kate, so she unburied the dress?

and lastly:

-why doesnt lucy haunt everett and celia hudson? she kind of does ie painting but only when nancy visits bc shes actually haunting nancy. isnt everything the hudsons' fault?

Weaving thats the main problem

So I’ave been thinking a lot about Skamfr and why at this point the audience just expects their plot failures. I recently rewatched s5 and weaving imo is the thing that sticks out the most about skamfr. All Skams have plot issues but FR for me just monkey swings from subplot to subplot but never fully explaining the transitions or character’s headspace. Also, details details details to assist in closing out plot is something they lack. Here are some examples for s5. What happen to Arthur and his Mother? Its left to the audience to assume that Carole filed for divorce, moved out of the apt and Arthur/his mom are finding ways to emotionally deal (Caroline prob feels guilty/Arthur probably has lingering anger issues) with his father’s abuse. Three ultra simplistic ways to have addressed this within 10secs moments in s6 first 3 eps. The scene where Daphne walks into school after the funeral.

- The group is doing their hug and Arthur runs in saying sorry his late he is still getting use to the new bus route to school (tells us they moved out and are adjusting to their new life).

- The therapist scene with Lola. We see Lola walking out and we catch a glimpse of Arthur walking into a session or something that highlights he is in therapy to deal with being physically assaulted by his dad.

- A 10secs line delivery from Arthur(at daphné’s bday) asking Elliot if they have job openings at the video store because he needs a job after the bacs implying he wants to start contributing to his household. Maybe his mom is finding it hard to manage a single parent income.

- S6 examples just for giggles. Elu drama aside the plot connector is just weak. If urbex is their thing instead of having Elliot lie to lucas at the party maybe that scene would have been Lola having a smoke/break outside on her own and elliot comes out to say he also isn't good with big groups. They look out onto Paris and elliot tells us why urbex is his solo thing and how he uses abandoned spaces to fill a void even make up imaginary scenes in them (ref to polaris).It helps him cope.

Skamfr writing team I know you guys aren’t dumb but if your gonna have such dramatic plot milestones(car accident) then weave the shit out of the narrative that way we can be mad but at least its written well. None of it is ever woven properly so its just a mess of wire cords not plug into any outlet.

im on ep 7 rn cause i've been meaning to revisit what's basically a fucking high school au arc. and i just got to the part where they get out of cold pool cave and wei wuxian just starts LYING about what happened while they were missing. he doesn't mention the yin metal, not even to his own brother! and lan wangji is just giving him this look. and then later nie huisang asks where they went. & in return wwx asks if nhs wants to know about something that happened to them in the middle of the night. nhs is like YEAH

lwj just looks at wwx like, "oh no what the fuck are you gonna say you literally just promised you wouldnt tell anyone we found a piece of the yin metal and i s2g if you say we hooked up i'm going to cut you." (yes he says all of this with a single look!)

(thats the look right there officer - you can tell when he's surprised/concerned bc his mouth hangs open just a little)

wwx is like "a SNAKE elemental!" and lwj gets as close to rolling his eyes as he ever will in his entire life.

But! i think this is the point where lwj starts to realize that wei wuxian is a good liar and he lies often. he's always dramatic and loves to entertain people with his exaggerations and he can clearly use this to manipulate those around him. what lwj had previously calculated as like, stupidity or immaturity is... actually something else.

AND ALSO lwj has probably never lied about anything in his fuckin life and now he's seeing his crush wwx break a pretty basic lan sect rule ("don't lie.") to protect a lan sect secret. in his feelings and questioning shit!

Destiel Meta - an outsider’s perspective

I’ve been reading meta for about a year, but now I wanted to add my own post regarding it.

I don’t really see things when I first watch episodes, I don’t get mirrors or parallels or pay attention to background details like wallpaper or neon signs or anything like that. I’m not good at analyzing things or interpreting it, not in literature nor film, I don’t do something in this area professionally or studied it.

However, there are some things that jumped out so much that even I thought “Hey, that’s something!”.

Part 1: Mirrors

Seriously, mirrors? You’re telling me that it’s a known method to present mirrors to characters, that they can be used in subtle or totally obvious forms, and they can tell you a lot about the character that’s being mirrored just by existing? Wow that’s so cool!

14x300: In the first scenes when my friend yelled “Look! they look like Dean and Cas!”, I wasn’t 100% sure if that’s what was going on, but oh boi at the end of the episode it was crystal fucking clear. Three people next to each other, the one on the right taller than the others, one is wearing a jacket resembling a trench coat, one is wearing plaid. Trenchcoatjacket and Plaid are holding hands.

We noticed Plaid’s crush on Trenchcoatjacket the whole episode, it was so obvious! Hm, what else was there in resemblance? I remember the taller kid was pretty nerdy, and Plaid stole the Impala at one point, so it’s pretty clear we have Sam and Dean here, which leaves Cas for the last person, and it fits so well! Thats awesome!!

Apart from “Lebanon”, the episode ‘Mint Condition’ basically taught me how they use mirrors and that I should pay attention to them right now. They pointed out who was Sam and Dean, then resumed with the plot and I sat there thinking “Oh!”.

My friend explained to me how the ghost of that episode relates to John Winchester, and honestly if you follow the train of thought about mirrors that the episode presented to you, it’s pretty easy to get there.

Dreamhunter: The confirmed ship with two girls, ah yes! Again, I don‘t really pick up on visual cues or background stuff, but when Kaia said to Claire “I’ll go with you,” I had flashbacks to the season 11 finale immediately. I mean, using the exact same dilagoue? But alright, maybe they’re gonna keep playing it as a cute subtextual crush or how you call it, because neither of them says “You’re my crush”, so-

Oh, wait, Kaia was also stabbed in front of Claire who screamed “Noo!!”, that’s another striking resemblance. Hm.

Oh, Dreamhunter is confirmed to be a couple thing? Neat! So does that mean all the DeanCas stuff is romantic? Because y’all used the same dialogue and plot.

Part 2: Dean’s pining (season 11)

To be fully honest here, I didn’t understand season 11. At all. I didn’t get the whole Amara thing, why was everyone talking about pining? Dean told us that it wasn’t about desire with him and Amara, just a weird fixation, but still, the lady in the senior home told Dean that he “was pining for somebody else”. That makes no sense!

Unless it’s true? Dean didn’t pine for Amara, he tells us that, but everyone’s still talking about pining, therefore the topic of pining is important. Dean x Amara wasn’t romantic, that’s clear from what Dean told us and how he behaved, so no pining.

The only person left he could pine for is Cas. The dude who let in Lucifer, who Dean’s worried about, who Amara touches and she knows where Dean is? That’s..interesting. I’m still kinda confused, but some things are clearer now. No romance between Dean & Amara, but pining is still a theme, and only Cas makes sense. Got it.

Part 3: Cas’ endgame as being human

I wanted to include this because I’ve had this headcanon for years, then saw the meta community talk about it, and honestly there’s one scene to watch and it’d be clear that Cas wants to be human.

Alright dude, you’re so eager and ready to throw away your grace? Okidoki.

To go back in time, everyone always had these TED talks about how Cas loves humanity and loves humans and human things, that he feels stuff (season 4 yall, it’s been a while), that he compliments Hannah with things that “are human”. He doesn’t get along with other angels because they’re different than him, or they don’t understand his love and devotion for humans. He spends pretty much all his time on earth, around humans, because he loves them, and one in particular.

To quote Metatron, “He’s in love with humanity”. Do I need to add more? No? Fantastic, because this post is long enough already.

Part 4: Random things in no particular order

Episode 12x12, because come on. Some people took the gifs of Cas’ deathbed confession and connected them to the shots before, showing you where everyone’s standing, who Cas is looking at, and it’s so bloody clear. Don’t get me started on the singular vs plural “i love you” because I literally don’t have to, it’s right there.

“I could go with you”- season 11 finale. Cas, ready to die to accompany Dean on the suicide mission to save the world. He wants to ease Dean’s fear and be there for him until the very end, without hesitation. Castiel really fucking loves Dean Winchester. Wow.

That’s it I think? Those are the top things that jumped into my face when I watch the show, things I didn’t have to read other people’s thoughts on to understand what’s happening. :)

To finish this up I want to say something about meta writers. I didn’t start out reading meta, I didn’t really care for details and background stuff and took the show as I saw it, which is why I shipped Destiel immediately because there were enough things so blatantly obvious to me that I just had to. Then I found @tinkdw, then @bluestar86, @dotthings, @occamshipper, @postmodernmulticoloredcloak and all the other bloody amazing meta writers, and boom! A whole new world!

I started a series rewatch, read the posts for the episodes or seasons, paid more attention and there was so much to see and notice! It gave me joy in watching SPN in a time where I was kind of burned out because I had just discovered the bad side of the fandom and was a bit hopeless, for my OTP and the show itself. It gave me friends, and interesting conversations, but more importantly: These people helped me be realistic about episodes, upcoming episodes and PR stuff. “PR is not showrunning” was a strange concept to me before they showed me what it meant, and I vividly remember being in tears before all this after some PR material promised amazing things but failed to deliver.

These people are so good at predicting what’s going to happen because they read the fine print and understand it, pack it up and show it to us who either can’t read the fine print or dont notice it. They help fans to control (?) their expectations, to soften blind excitement over promo shots or interviews with people who have either no clue what they’re talking about (Jensen bby, i love you but what are you even saying?) or are purposefully exaggerating things.

They saved me from so much disappointment, they improved my fandom experience and changed my feelings for the show and how I watch it. There are so many interesting things to discover, things that confirm theories and explain plot points. I haven’t been disappointed in a new episode because of PR or rumors since I’ve met them, except ep 300 but that’s...a whole other thing. They were right about that too, though, and I didn’t listen. Catch me crying at four am because of it.

I love those people immensely, and I’m so thankful for them. They take the time to write all these essays about the show, all you have to do is read them.

Oh my god! the back and forth about Brian and Justin and who’s going on the liberty ride and who’s going to LA is so frustrating. I swear the writers had nothing else to do.

jokes on you trying to make me pick one thing HA *cracks knuckles*

first of all. they are very talented, they work very hard, and they don’t quit. (yes i said three things but they all go together). they’re very humble about it too!! this band has been through some tough shit, have gone through numerous lineup changes and people stabbing them in the back and nothing can stop them.

and in terms of musical talent, i know at least for cody, when the band was first started people were telling him to quit singing because he sucked. but he has put in so much work and got private lessons and his voice has dramatically improved. like listening to sio’s first ep and what cody sounds like now you get fucking whiplash lmao. and like. just generally a vocalist, he is very very good at That Thing He Does, like creating a certain tone with his voice that lends well to some of the angrier edgier sio songs and i just. love that. i wanna do that. his voice is so impressive now id like to learn from him

and i cant really speak for zach because ive never like heard him play solo or show off but maxx is a fuckin amazing drummer and he’s super humble about it too. and yea theyre never self depricating, just humble!

second thing: they’re always looking to grow. they have let their sound evolve, experimented, and it’s really a trip to hear what they souned like for a song like hush hush versus upside down. once again, whiplash, but they always pull it off. theyre always looking for new directions and new things to try and i know they already have a plan for the next era and i’m so excited for it.

another thing: they care about the fans’ wellbeing and comfort. back in march something came out about one of the bands opening for them that tour that they were making some of the fans uncomfortable and they kicked them off of the next leg of tour immediately.

i could keep listing off examples. in march i passed out at a show, and once i was on the floor the crowd helped the band stop before the next song started, and then everyone was dead silent and stood back patiently while i was being helped. and then in july when i saw them again, zach said “nick youre back!” implicating that when he posted about me passing out on his twitter he saw my reply and checked to make sure i was okay, AND he learned my name! i also saw him checking up on me throughout the show to make sure i was okay and honestly he’s such a fucking blessing!!

another thing: they’re dorky as hell and kind of hilarious. like that’s been there from the start, they have so many silly videos on youtube and they’re hilarious, stupid, and just unashamedly dorky. like seeing them all interact with each other and act stupid makes you want to be friends with them. at least thats how ive felt lmao they are CLOWNS

another thing: they’re very genuine. everyone ive seen talk about it has said they act the same way on camera as they do off camera. and theyre so respectful! they’ve all been very respecful to me when i’ve met them and they have purposefully avoided misgendering me because i think they still don’t know what my pronouns are. also in duality era they preached this whole message about not being afraid of being human, wearing your flaws on your sleeve, knowing that emotions are a human experience, and not being ashamed of yourself.

one other thing: maxx is so fucking nice to me. i watch his streams on twitch and some THINGS have happened ok. one time i requested my own song and he was like impressed that i did it myself and was like asking me questions and giving me positive feedback and i loved that!! and then one stream he had us all watching sio covers and he put up one of my covers he had seen before literally just to hype me up to everyone like he was LITERALLY showering me with compliments, and then he watched what had been my newest cover too and complimented me on that too, and then when that was all over i was like “tysm its so wild that my favorite band supports my music i love you so much” and he said “well nick its easy to support someone when they’re talented so. you’re doing great. you’re incredible. keep it up. it’s amazing” i fucking almost CRIED ok and in addition to that they’ve given me like a whole new audience for my covers because they keep fuckin supporting me back like damn i stan a band that stans me back!!!

and just in general maxx is so soft and nonthreatening and like 99% of maxx stans are queer and he said “gender is a social construct” and he said “be gay do crimes” (after some encouragement thx madi) and several times in streams he just openly talked about how he tries to support the community and fjsjsd he purposefully avoided deadnaming me onstream when he got an amazon package from me with my deadname on it

lastly. their music is just so cathartic. like there are a fuck ton of angry songs and theyre all fun to sing at the top of your lungs, but they also have feel good dancey songs, and their lyrics are always so honest. and ppl try to pigeonhole them but like they are beyond all that

in conclusion i love the set it off boys
