Badusha / Balushahi
Badusha / Balushahi is a traditional Indian sweet dessert recipe prepared mainly with Maida or all purpose flour, deep fried in ghee or oil and soaked in sugar syrup. It has a strong resemblance to glazed doughnut but varies with its layered texture and crunchy taste. The doughnut is light & fluffy whereas the Badusha / Balushahi has a soft & flaky texture. Badusha is made during different…

thank you to @cold-blooded-jelly-doughnut, @heartstringsduet, @sznofthesticks, and @bonheur-cafe for the tags!
enjoy this cute little snippet of my girldad first prince fic that won't leave me alone
“Baby, I’m home!” Alex comes flying through the garage door, holding a briefcase and a bag of Indian takeout, “And I brought dinner.”
Alex’s smile grows wider on his face when he hears the pitter-patter of little feet running up the kitchen, and he sets his bags down on the counter, crouching down as his daughter collides into his shoulder, wrapping her arms around his neck.
“Hola, mija,” he says into her hair, picking her up as he stands, swinging her around. “Papa missed you!”
Alex places her on his hip as he pulls his tie loose, “Where’s Daddy?”
“Right here, love,” Henry turns into the kitchen, laughing. “Your daughter seems to have me beat in speed, though.” Henry leans in and presses a kiss to Alex’s lips, “Hi.”
“Hi, sweetheart,” Alex says, putting Elena down as she wriggles in his hold, “Alright, alright, I’ll set you down. Are you hungry?”
She ignores him, running back into the living room, where David is curled up on the couch.
Henry wraps his arm around Alex’s waist, and Alex presses a kiss onto Henry’s temple, “Baby, is there a reason our daughter is running around the house in a bear onesie?”
Henry sighs, resting his forehead on Alex’s shoulder, “Your sister and her wife showed up with the onesie, and Elena decided that she needed to try it on immediately. Didn’t even make it to the bathroom to put it on.”
Alex laughs softly, wrapping his arms around Henry’s waist, “Well, at least she’s cute. I have fried rice and raitha for Elena, and then vindaloo with garlic naan.”
“And here I was thinking we needed to dip into our frozen meals,” Henry pulls back, leaning his head back for a kiss. Alex gives it to him willingly, biting at his earlobe.
“Go away, you cretin,” Henry laughs, “We need to feed your child before she throws a fit.” Henry steps away, pulling takeout containers out of the bag. “I can’t wait until Elena eats something that isn’t rice.”
Alex stands behind Henry, wrapping his arms around his waist, “So, she’s my kid when she’s a troublemaker, huh? Mom says that I didn’t eat anything but rice until I was eight, so I wouldn’t get too excited.”
Henry groans, resting his head back against Alex’s shoulder, “So I have four more years of this to look forward to?”

My friends think we’re dating
For the past few months, Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy had traipsed all over muggle London taking in its food scene from familiar Parisian cuisine to the pungent spices of takeout Indian, and even to American pizza that Draco simultaneously loved and hated for its greasiness. Theirs was the tentative start of a friendship between former enemies now coworkers. When the Malfoy heir expressed curiosity at her lunch one day, a plate of Pad Kee Mao, she discovered his appallingly limited palate, one accustomed to the whimsy of house elves and professional chefs. He laughed in disbelief at the idea of street food, and at first didn’t believe her that entire night markets existed for the pleasure of eating. So Hermione took it upon herself to introduce him a couple of times a week to something new—for his own personal growth, of course. The change in her schedule didn’t go unnoticed. “My friends think we’re dating.” Draco’s hand froze momentarily before resuming its movement towards the box of doughnuts between them. He carefully plucked a powdery white one from the side and considered the dark red ooze at its tip before taking a small bite of the confection. How he could gracefully eat a powdered jelly doughnut without a single spot or smear afterward, Hermione could not for the life of her figure out. “Is that a problem?” Cool grey eyes probed into hers after he finished his last, impeccable bite. “Isn’t it for you? Putting aside the fact that we’re just friends and you don’t even like me like that.” Her words trailed off near the end, and she picked up her coffee mug to nervously sip at the now lukewarm beverage. She grimaced at the bitterness of the over-extracted beans. Draco smirked at her reaction and placed a few packets of creamer in front of her. “This is why I suggested we get our coffee elsewhere, Granger. Everyone knows the coffee at doughnut shops is absolute shite.” He tilted his head as he watched her tear open and pour a couple into her mug before continuing. “And what if I do like you like that?” Thunk. Creamy brown liquid sloshed over the rim and she cursed as she fluttered around for napkins to clean up the spill. “Don’t tease me like that, Malfoy!” “I promise you, I’ve never been more serious. I do. Like you like that.” With a wordless wave of his hand, the mess on the table vanished. He then reached across and threaded his fingers with hers. Hermione stared at their hands before taking a deep breath to somehow steady the pulse threatening to beat right out of her chest. A chuckle coupled with his thumb rubbing a warm trail across her knuckles left her breathless in anticipation. He let go of her and before she could protest, he picked up her sad excuse of a coffee and drained it all. “I thought these meet-ups were purely educational? Just a step towards your muggle knowledge? Also, why did you drink my coffee?” She waved her hands first at the pastel pink box and coffee mug, voice far more shrill than she’d like to admit. “Yes, I do appreciate these forays into the muggle food scene, but there is and has always been an ulterior motive, Hermione.” The switch to her given name had her gaping in the most adorable manner, and he couldn’t resist his follow-up question, one he’d been waiting to ask but now felt appropriate given her friends’ meddling. “Would you date me? And hopefully not long after, allow me to court you?” “I—I suppose that would be—yes, I’d like to—” without even waiting for her to finish, he swept her up with him as he stood, shrunk the rest of the doughnuts in their box to place in his pocket, and made for the exit. “Excellent. There’s a lovely little coffee shop we can go to wash out this swill.” His hand grasped hers tightly, but his pace measured a gait to match her smaller one. “What, so now you’re educating me on muggle coffee?” She had recovered her composure enough to tease him with a light nudge to his elbow, and he cast an appreciate grin down at her before wrapping an arm tightly around her at the apparition point. “Yes, and on so much more.” ---
Note: I absolutely suck at brevity. I know Drabbles are supposed to be short, but I find it nearly impossible to keep my scenes sub-500, much less 100. Practice makes perfect?

tag game!
tagged by @warningsine, thank you! i have a bunch from the past saved in my drafts, which i will resurrect one day bc they're fun <3
Last song/piece I listened to: U Were Not Here by 潘PAN feat. Chiu Pi. The sound production on it is *chef's kiss*
Last book I read: I can't remember, I think it was "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie?
Last film I watched: Cry Wolf (1947) dir. Peter Godfrey. I think it fell flat because it was 1947 and I am typically opposed to remakes, but I think a modern retelling of this would be fantastic. I have a 3am scrambled essay written about this, including a fan cast, somewhere lmao
Last TV series: I can't remember, I think when I finished "The Bear"?
Last video game (if applicable): I haven't played in forever, but "Animal Crossing: New Horizons."
Last thing I googled: the hours for a new Indian take out place near me
Last thing I ate: a leftover doughnut
Sweet, Savory or Spicy: savory, with spicy
Amount of sleep: [looks at the camera like I'm Fleabag] 2-3 hours? <-- keeping that because same and exactly
Currently reading: still working on "The Hours" by Michael Cunningham (had to take a break) and also "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams, and various poetry collections
Currently watching: I'm currently watching "So Help Me Todd" and "Abbott Elementary" with my mom, and some Star Trek: TNG, but mostly Star Trek: DS9. Mainly just comfort shows for the time being <3
tagging: @grusinskayas, @poeticsinnamon, @karathraces, @emuculate, @hardcockcafe, and anyone else who wants to do this! i never know who likes these and doesn't, so if you happen to see this and want to participate, i actively tag you <3

Anonymous Asks: "What do you think are Jack's, Joseph's, Shaun's, Ian's, Nick's, and Jean's favorite foods and drinks?"
Tumblr media
Ooooh I’m gonna do these a lil out of order for Headcanon Reasons~
Content: Food and drink talk
Tumblr media
Joseph:
Okay so I know everyone headcanons him as Italian-American, but like… my little Jewish heart likes to think he’s Jewish
Some of his favourite foods are ones he remembers his bubbe making for him before she passed away and he ran away
Her brisket is the thing he misses the most, so soft with just a hint of hot sauce and horseradish. Sandwiched between two slices of freshly baked challah…
The slightly gross bagels and lox she used to buy for him on a Sunday morning
But also he’s a sucker for a greasy burger and slightly soggy fries, a strawberry milkshake on the side
Shitty boxed wine (or manischewitz lmao)
Jack:
So, Sunny Day Jack was meant to be an all-American guy, but this Jack is a weird amalgamation of Jack and Joseph
So, uh, he’s Jewish too now. It’s my house I get to make the rules, and the rules are I project onto characters
Apples may be his favourite snack, but for a meal? Matzo ball soup. It’s got vegetables, protein, carbs… if you make it the day before, you can skim off the schmaltz!
He also loves fruit salads and regular salads, and—no surprise here—blueberry pancakes
Any sort of fruit juice is good for him! He’ll freshly squeeze it himself to make sure there’s not too much sugar
Man loves milk
Shaun:
Shaun is an accomplished man in many respects, but uhhhh… cooking is not one of them
He’s not the worst at it, he can make himself ready meals or boxed mac and cheese or simple dishes
But generally, he kinda prefers to just get food in. Chinese, Thai, and Indian are absolutely his favourites, but he does also like to try new places when he can
He’s a big fan of sandwiches! Any filling, he just loves something he can hold in one hand while he works
As for drinks, he loves a good smoothie. Especially those super healthy green ones full of like kale and spinach and stuff
Shaun’s alcoholic drink of choice is vodka
Ian:
Ian’s a pretty good cook! Not like… professional chef level, but he likes to watch cooking shows
He’s picked up a few things, and he’s learned to cook all of his favourite foods
He makes an absolutely delicious ramen, a very good full English breakfast, and he’s also a decent baker. Pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls of course
Breakfasts are definitely his specialty, especially things that are good for breakfast in bed
He loves strawberry milk, it’s almost silly how excited he gets about it (but also so cute)
He’s a big fan of all types of tea!
Nick:
Now, Ian may be a good cook, but Nick is almost a professional level cook. He’s practiced for years
He’s good enough to make his own new recipes if he knows the basic ingredients needed
He specializes in all types of rice and pasta and bread, all made by hand. Fried rice, coconut rice, carbonara, bolognese, naan, pizza, anything like that
He does love a good pain au chocolat, especially with a hot coffee. It’s his ideal breakfast
When it comes to drinks, he mostly sticks with water and coffee, but sometimes he’ll drink soda
He’s a sucker for lemonade
Jean:
Look, Jean never wanted to be an actor. He wanted to be a baker. It’s why he stuck with the Rory role for so long.
He’s not like… the best at it, just cause he doesn’t have much time to practice
But he definitely loves to eat sweets! Cakes and cookies, macrons and meringues, parfaits and puddings. Anything sweet, he has a major sweet tooth!
Cafe foods and drinks in general are his favourites. Croissants, doughnuts, coffee, tea
He loves a good cup of hot chocolate, with marshmallows and whipped cream
This man loves baileys

THE SOUTH INDIAN FOODS
The South Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka each have their own variants of common dishes as well as regional specialties. For an introduction to South Indian cuisine, here are 10 dishes to look out for.
1. Dosas: paper-thin crepes
A traditional breakfast food made of fermented rice-and-lentil batter, a dosa is much like a crispy thin crepe. It’s accompanied by sambar (a hot lentil soup) and coconut chutney.
Masala dosas are stuffed with a spicy mash of potato and onion; plain dosas are hollow; rava dosas are made from semolina; and some new-age variants get creative with fillings such as cottage cheese or mixed vegetables.
Whatever you choose (trust us and start with a masala dosa), the delightfully light dish is best eaten hot, when it’s fresh off the griddle.

2. Idlis: steamed rice cakes
Soft, fluffy and ivory-coloured, idlis are what many South Indian families eat for breakfast. A fermented lentil-and rice-batter is steamed in little circular moulds, and the resulting spherical rice cakes are served with sambar and chutneys.
Idlis are light and mild tasting, an ideal snack for when you want to give your stomach a rest from fiery flavours.

3. Vadas: savoury doughnuts
What’s that doughnut-like thing doing on your South Indian breakfast thali (platter)? While a vada won’t cure your sugar cravings, it will satiate your desire for something deep fried, hot and crispy.
Made from a batter of black lentils, gently spiced with peppercorns, curry leaves, cumin, chilli and onion, this crunchy fritter tastes best when smeared generously with coconut chutney.

4. Uttapams: pizza-pancake hybrids
Is it a pancake? Is it a pizza? No, it’s an uttapam. A batter of fermented rice and lentils is ladled on to a griddle. Chopped tomato, onion, chillies, carrot, coconut and other toppings are then sprinkled on. The result is a fluffy, porous, delicious uttapam, softer than a dosa, and tastes great with chutneys or without.

9. Biryani: something like pilaf
The ubiquitous biryani is found in different forms all over India, changing in flavour and preparation style according to regional influences.
Biryani is essentially a dish of rice cooked with meat, veggies and spices such as turmeric, cardamom, bay leaves, cinnamon, cloves, and pepper; sometimes garnished with cashews, raisins and caramelized onions. It can be vegetarian or have meats such as chicken, mutton or beef.

While there is no single South Indian-style biryani, you’ll find different varieties such as Hyderabadidum biryani, Kerala-style Malabar or Thalasserybiryani, the coastal Karnataka variant of Bhatkalibiryani, Tamil Nadu’s Dinidgulbiryani and so on.

Innovative Trends in Wedding Catering in London
Tumblr media
As the wedding industry transforms, it brings forth different food trends. Across the UK, many delectable and innovative wedding cuisine options are available. Unconventional Wedding Catering ideas are coming up. Here are some of the freshest wedding food trends in the UK for 2024.
Cool Canapés and Bowl Food
Classic wedding foods like canapés and bowl food are still popular. Canapés are tiny snacks. You eat them before the main meal. Bowl food is like a full meal served in a bowl. They are great for keeping guests happy during the wedding party.
Traditional canapés options are smoked salmon blinis and mini beef Wellingtons. Caterers are getting more creative. They are serving things like mini soufflés, sushi rolls, and veggies in little pots. There are also fancier options. They are giving scallops in shells and tuna. It is all about making food fun and exciting for your big day.
Street Food
Street food is becoming popular at weddings. It is inspired by the yummy foods you find at food trucks and stalls in cities all over the world. The idea is to give guests lots of different dishes they can enjoy while chatting with each other.
People love tacos and BBQ pulled pork bao buns. They also like burgers and pizzas. But there are also new choices. Examples are gyozas Korean fried chicken, and lobster and shrimp brioche rolls. There are even fancy options like pulled short beef rib brioche burgers. There is demand for Venezuelan arepas, toasties, and Indian chaat.
Having street food at your wedding brings a relaxed feeling. It lets guests try lots of different foods. It is especially popular at weddings with a festival feel. People often serve it late at night to keep the party going.
Local Stuff
More and more couples are choosing local ingredients for their wedding catering. This means getting food from nearby farms and businesses. It helps local farmers. It makes sure the food is fresh and good.
They are picking things like veggies straight from the farm. They are using fresh fish, special cheeses, and fruit. They are also going for local drinks like English sparkling wine and beers.
Lots of couples are picking wine, beer, and spirits from Hampshire. There are lots of vineyards, breweries, and distilleries there. This trend shows that people appreciate local and good-quality drinks.
Vegan And Veg Options
People are choosing to eat vegan or vegetarian diets. Because of this, caterers are giving food options for weddings that don't have meat or animal products. They are making vegan snacks. They are giving vegetarian main dishes, and desserts too.
Some popular choices include veggie tarts, lentil pie, and vegan curry. But now, caterers are getting more creative. They are making things like jackfruit tacos. There is also the option of quinoa and sweet potato burgers. You can also get vegan sushi rolls. Having a variety of food means everyone can find something they like to eat, no matter their diet.
Sweet Treat Stations
Another popular trend for weddings is dessert stations. It is best for those who love sweets. The idea is to set up a station with lots of different desserts. The guests can serve themselves here.
You can have classic desserts like brûlée, cheese boards, tarts, and chocolate brownies. You may also have unusual treats like doughnuts, cheesecake, and colorful macarons. Some may prefer dessert pops on sticks, or sorbets. There can also be an option of make-your-own ice cream or gelato stations.
Dessert stations are a fun way to give guests something sweet. It can make the party more interactive.
DIY
If you want to keep things simple for your wedding catering, DIY or Create Your Own could be a great choice. It is like a buffet, but even better. Maybe they are popular because guests like getting involved. They can pile on their favorite toppings.
But it's not just about salads. You could set up stations where guests make their pizzas, tacos, sushi, or poke bowls. Or you could have breakfast and brunch foods for people who love these options.
For Instagram
Oh, Instagram. It's hard to keep people away from it, right? Well, they say, if you can't beat them, join them! Make your event catering Instagram-friendly.
So, what makes food Instagram-worthy? Since you can't taste it through Instagram, your best bet is to make your food look pretty. Present it in the best way possible. Play with colors or arrange it nicely. You can do something fun like putting the couple’s name on a pizza.
Food is always a hot topic on social media. So you have got to give it your best shot Honestly, people just can't resist a good food post.
Mix Up The Cocktails
Don't stick to the usual cocktails for your wedding. Add some flavor! Use the local spirits you have picked. Mix them up. Or select a few unique cocktails for a special menu. Get creative and choose cocktails that reflect your personality.
Another part of the latest cocktail trend is to include more non-alcoholic options on the menu. Mocktail ideas have become a lot more interesting. It is also a yummy option. Do some research. Come up with ideas that will have everyone wanting seconds.
