Once we have confirmation, we will update IGN's official Jump Force Roster with any characters announced. Leawo Blu-ray Copy is the super 3D Blu-ray copy software that can copy 3D Blu-ray disc in 1:1 disc to disc duplication. Until the characters are officially confirmed by Bandai Namco, take this information with a grain of salt. Though it is highly likely that these are going to be the 9 additional DLC characters based on the information available, it is possible this is just a rumor. Youtuber SergioM3 posted on his channel that he had data mined the update and located files for the following 9 characters added in the update as well: Joint Force Quarterly is the Chairman's joint military and security studies journal designed to inform and educate national security professionals on joint and integrated operations whole of government contributions to national security policy and strategy homeland security and developments in training and joint military education to better equip America's military and security apparatus to. Red is alone... HEROBRINE VS. RED!!!!!!!!!! Also, Mango is the new Dark, Second is the new Chosen (Already shown in A v A ep. 4), and Purple is the new Second, any questions?? - Ruby Disc
I-
I HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS
RUBY WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??
ALKJSDLGS
Okay, I think what you're saying is that since Red went through the portal alone in, theres potential for a singular Red plot (which I would adore, please give me more Red content alksjglds) and a chance for Herobrine to surface again
I think it could definitely be a cool concept but I personally believe Herobrine is gone or at least, isn't coming back anytime soon. It would feel weird if he was suddenly reintroduced when this arc is focused on King and Purple.
And then I think what you were pointing at with the whole Dark and Mango, and Chosen and Second, is that there are parallels in this arc with AvA 5. While I can see similarities, I wouldn't say King MT is the new Dark because aside from their antagonistic presence to the main group, they actually aren't that similar!
(haha OOPS- this post turned into a mini character analysis that got kinda long, so I'm putting the rest under the "Keep Reading" tag!)
Dark's motivation was seemingly destruction and vengeance (considering his first virabot was sent to Char!Alan's PC). He's crafty, smart, fast, and enthusiastic. He also had a personal beef with Chosen after his refused to help with the initial Virabot plan.
Now lets look at King. His motivation is power. The only thing driving him is that desire for power and possibly control (especially if the way he treats Purple is anything to go by). King is imposing, calculating, powerful in stature, and sly. There's no "tragic" backstory with another stick that's fueling his actions.
For example, lets say theres an important item located at the far end of a room that you want. The problem is that theres a huge crowd in between you and that item. If Dark was confronted with this problem, he'd probably jump headfirst into the crowd and brute force his way through. If it was King, he'd probably assess the situation first and use his size to get through the crowd or get someone else to retrieve the item for him.
Similarly, lets look at Second and Chosen. Second's name is the Second Coming, a clear reference back to the Chosen One as shown in AvA 4 but like, aside from being kinda a reincarnation (except not because Chosen is still alive) both of them having powers and the initial drive to attack the Animator when he wronged them, and their want to befriend their enemies, is kinda the only thing they have in common. Even then, Chosen befriended Dark because they were both wronged by the Animator. Second befriends their enemies because they wants to and probably sees the good in them.
So yeah! Maybe thematically, King has taken Dark's role and Second has taken Chosen's role in this fight in the sense, a powerful stick figure is doing bad and someone needs to stop them, but they certainly aren't the New Dark or the New Chosen.
As for Purple being the new Second, I'll be honest, I have no idea what you mean by this. asdkgdlsjgs
Anyway, god this turned out a lot longer than expect
what the hell was I doing again?? alksjlgsd

Now that I’ve finished my rewatch of Tron: Uprising, I wanted to rewrite Ark’s backstory to fit in better with the show, instead of my years-old memories of it.
I’m still not 100% sure of it, but I know it’s better than it was. I may sharpen it up a little, but I think it’s close to how I want. There’s still more to the story that I have thought out, but I’m still working on the details.
Timeline-wise, the first part takes place sometime after the 19th episode of Tron: Uprising, while the second part takes place a while before Uprising begins. There’s a little flavor from Tron: Betrayal and the PC version of Tron: Evolution, though I’m not sure how canon they are to the show.
I’ve tried to make it feel like an episode or two of the show, but I’m not sure how well I hit the mark.

With Tron healed, he had started going on missions with Beck, along with taking on some solo missions of his own.
Strangely enough, the Occupation had been subdued lately, which was cause for suspicion, so they had gone out into Argon together to see if they could pick up on any hints or information.
Things had been rather boring, right up until they got ambushed by a group of five Occupation programs.
There were four Sentries lead by an unmasked female program with a blank expression on her face.
Beck had never seen the leading program before, but Tron seemed completely surprised at who stood before them.
There was no time for questions, though, the four Sentries rushed Beck, while their leader went after Tron.
The Sentries kept Beck occupied, coordinating their attacks to keep him on the defense and distracted.
On the other hand, Tron and the new program were fighting furiously, though neither one was landing a blow on the other. Move for move, they matched each other, striking and blocking again and again.
Beck slowly managed to take out his opponents one by one, until the last one was left unconscious.
Their leader blocked Tron's attack and looked around to confirm that her crew was incapacitated.
She disengaged from the fight, fleeing the way she had come.
Tron yelled one word after her, "Ark!"
The program paused as she gasped, her eyes widening as she showed the first scrap of emotion since she had arrived.
It lasted only an instant before she shook her head, her expression blanked out once more, and she resumed running away.
Beck, worn out from his four-on-one battle looked from Tron to where the program had left, then back again.
Tron wasn't pursuing her, though he looked somewhat shaken at the encounter.
Beck made his way over to Tron, "You know her?"
Tron didn't take his eyes off where she had gone, "A long time ago."
Beck raised an eyebrow, "Care to tell me about it?"
"No."
Beck was about to protest about more potentially secrets when Tron sighed and continued, "But, I'll tell you when we get back to the lair."
Tron lead the way back, while Beck's mind buzzed with questions, who was she.
Once at the lair, Beck fidgeted slightly as he waited for Tron, he knew there was no sense in pushing him, he'd do it on his own time.
Suddenly, almost without warning, Tron spoke, "Her name is Ark."
That was the one thing Beck had figured out, but, it was a start.
"You know that you're not the first to wear my circuits. She was the second."
Beck raised an eyebrow, but chose to say nothing yet.
"Don't give me that look. It's different, we knew each other way back before the Occupation took over."
Tron walked up to the display screen and tapped a few buttons, bringing up an image of Ark, this time in blue circuits, instead of Occupation red.
"She was a System Monitor. She was a hard worker and we ended up working together several times. She was friendly with the ISOs, which caused some trouble, but it ultimately saved her life."
Tron activated another image, this time, one of a cloaked program with jagged sickly yellow light lines.
"Right before the coup happened, Clu used a virus to cause chaos and further his goals. There was going to be a ceremony celebrating a share of power between Basics and ISOs, but the virus interrupted, causing death and destruction.
"Ark was stationed outside, the virus had gone in a different way, so her and the other System Monitors had no idea anything was wrong until programs fled the ceremony.
"All of the Monitors helped calm down the crowd and got all of the programs to safety. Then, they split up to try and find out what they could about the virus.
"Ark ended up alone in the heart of the city, when an ISO pulled her into an alley. They told her that programs were being rounded up for the Games, that System Monitors were disappearing, and that I was dead. They begged her to hide, afraid that her friendliness with the ISOs would cause her death.
"She was reluctant to give up, but the more the ISO told her, the more it made sense that something bigger than she could handle was going down. She couldn't protect the system if she was dead, so she promised to hide for a short while, but if nothing happened, then she'd continue looking for answers.
"This seemed to appease the ISO, who fled to their own hiding spot and Ark never saw them again.
"As for Ark, she found a place to hide that gave her a prime vantage point to see all of the missing System Monitors march in with red circuits to take over the city. If she hadn't been warned, then she would've been rectified like the rest of them or dead."
Beck frowns at this, "She's rectified now, though, so what happened."
"I did." Tron replied. "She stayed hidden for a while, until things settled down and she wasn't in immediate danger. From there, she quietly snuck around and learned about the Occupation and their takeover. She didn't care much for them, so she took matters into her own hands, stopping them from bullying innocent programs and picking fights whenever she saw just a couple of them."
Tron smiled wistfully, "In that way, you remind me of her. Both of you fought back despite the odds, because you didn't like what the system had become under the Occupation."
He sighed softly, "Anyway, it wasn't long before people were talking about some kind of vigilante, so I sought her out. We recognized each other immediately and she agreed to team up with me without hesitation.
"She was a good Renegade, but didn't last long. After more successful missions, there was word going around about a dangerous new weapon that the Occupation was working on nearby. The information seemed suspect, but Ark insisted on investigating. To her, the risk of the weapon being real was too great to ignore.
"So, she went in alone. I waited at the rendezvous point for far longer that the meeting time we had agreed on, but she never came. After that, I never saw her again. I had hoped that meant she was dead, rather than forced to be rectified, but I wasn't sure if that really was worse or better."
Tron shook his head, "With her suddenly showing up after all of these cycles, it's likely the Occupation are trying to use her to draw us into a trap. We must proceed carefully from here on out. If you see her, do not engage."
It was Beck's turn to sigh as he tried to process all of this new information, "All right, I promise. We won't jump into anything without being sure of it."
He walked over to Tron and put a hand on his shoulder, "We'll get her back, I promise. She recognized her name, she's still in there somewhere."
Tron nodded silently before replying, "Thank you."
-
Ark understood Tron's concerns, but this time, her concerns had outweighed his. He knew he couldn't stop her from going, so he had suggested that they meet back up at a certain place and time, so that if she was pursued, he could give her a hand.
She had agreed to this, said her goodbyes, then took off. She had been studying the building and the guard patterns for some time now, so she knew sneaking in would be easy. After that, though, there was little information, just that somewhere in the building was a weapon that Clu could use to easily stop any programs that even thought about resisting. Tron, her, and anyone else they could recruit would be in even more danger than ever.
The lack of information gave her pause, though, and for a moment, she considered turning back around. But, her pride and stubbornness won out and she kept going. This was something she had to do, even if Tron didn't agree to it.
She wore his circuits, like she did on every mission, and they brought her some comfort. Even if he wasn't here with her, he was the best on the Grid, maybe some of his talents came along with his logo.
Getting in was just a matter of waiting for the right time, and she had timed her approach to coincide with the Sentries' movements.
For an instant, she wondered that if this gap in the guards was purposeful, and that Tron was right. But, she shook her head, if she kept believing that she'd fail, then she would. Even if Tron was right, and it was a trap, she had gotten out of worse situations.
Once she was in, she wandered endless dark hallways empty of everything but her footsteps. Trying to walk as quietly as possible, she made her way through the building, until she entered a large room.
Sticking to the edges and finding nothing and no one there, she slowly walked towards the middle to see if she could find anything there.
What she found was an ambush.
Countless Sentries dropped down from above and went in after her.
Ark activated her staff and fought for her life. She derezzed what felt like endless amounts of Sentries, but there were still far more of them than she had energy to deal with. The longer the battle went on, the more exhausted she got, starting to falter and make mistakes. After receiving quite a few injuries, she finally collapsed and was immediately surrounded.
Two Sentries hauled her to her knees, holding her upright by grabbing her arms tightly. She felt a disc rest at the back of her neck, another reminder that she wasn't going anywhere of her own accord.
Ominously glowing yellow circuits appeared in the darkness and walked towards her and Ark realized just how much trouble she was in. The Administrator himself had set this trap and she had just walked right into it.
Clu leaned down, "Well now, what do we have here? You're clearly not Tron, but you're wearing his circuits. Let's see who you really are."
He reached up under her chin and casually pressed the button to deactivate her helmet and reveal her face.
"You? Now, isn't this interesting? Here I thought all of the System Monitors were under my control, but it seems I've been mistaken. I thought Abraxas had gotten you all those cycles ago. You're quite resilient to survive everything after all this time. Well, until now."
Clu paced in front of her, seemingly trying to make a decision, "What to do with you? Obviously, I can't let you go. You've been disrupting things and making a nuisance of yourself."
Suddenly, he's back in front of her, leaning down, "How about a deal? I could use more competent soldiers like yourself. Give me Tron's location, willingly join me, and you'll survive. I'll make sure that you're well taken care of, with all the comforts you desire. I can't imagine your vigilante lifestyle is terribly cozy. It's a more than generous offer, but, what can I say, you've caught me in a good mood."
Ark's only reply was an icy glare.
"Oh. You're going to do this the hard way. Suit yourself. There's ways of getting the information I want and ways of making you work for me. They won't be any fun for you, but the programs torturing you will definitely enjoy it."
He takes a step back, "I could look at your disc and get Tron's location out of your memories, but, I want to hear you say it. I want you to give up your hero and personally betray him. I want you to know that resisting me will get you and those you care about absolutely nowhere."
Clu casually waves a hand to the programs holding her, "You know where to take her."
The two Sentries drag Ark off. She doesn't cooperate with them, but, since she's trying to save her energy, she doesn't fight them, either. She just goes limp and makes them drag her along.
When they reach the designated torture room, she uses every last scrap of energy to try and break free. She manages it for a moment, but it's a short lived freedom as they tackle her and slam her to the ground.
They pick her up and drag her to a table and strap her to it. For all the trouble she's caused, one of them hits the corner of the table, causing it to spin. When it settles, she's stuck at an angle and upside down.
It's disorienting and she's left like this for a while, until a program she doesn't recognize comes in.
She's adjusted to be back up right and the torture begins. Bursts of electricity are sent through her at different places and strengths.
Ark's programmed to protect the Grid and do what's best for it. Giving up Tron would doom everyone, so she's secure in the knowledge that no matter how much this hurts, she's doing what has to be done.
Her screams echo down the hallway, but she never begs for it to stop, she never says anything coherent at all.
The torture is endless, all she knows is pain. Ark doesn't know how much time has passed or how much longer it'll go on. Sometimes she's left alone to recover, but the peace just makes the next torture session hurt all the worse.
Her torturer seems irritated that she won't break. At one point, she was jabbed in the side with an even higher amount of electricity and pain than usual, and after that, things never felt quite right.
Cycles pass and it's hard for Ark to know where she is any more. All she knows is that she cannot give up Tron.
Finally, things are different. She's left alone long enough for her to start being able to think. The pain is ever present, but her mind begins to clear.
"Still as resilient as ever." An all-too-familiar voice addressed her. Clu strolls up to Ark, "They say you won't give up your memories, so I'm going to make sure that you no longer have any memories at all."
He turns his attention to another program in the room, "Get her healed up, but leave scars as a reminder to what happens when you defy me."
Clu looks back to Ark, "I'll see you soon." He leaves the room and his programs to their work.
It takes a while to get Ark back in functioning shape, several different healing techniques are needed in order to repair the extensive damage done to her over many, many cycles. The outlines of the vast amount of injuries remain, though, just as Clu had ordered.
They bring her to another room where Clu was awaiting them. Two programs remove her from the table, and as soon as she's free, Ark tries to break away and escape. But, she's easily stopped by several more programs she hadn't been aware of.
Clu smirks, "A fighter right up until the very end. That's what makes you so valuable. It'd be a shame to just derezz you."
Ark's shoved into a glass chamber, which she immediately tries to break.
Clu watches her struggle for a short period of time, before signaling for the process to begin.
Ark fights until she can't any more. She struggles to resist what the machine's forcing her to do, until it finally takes over and her programming is overlaid with the Occupation's mind-controlling code.
Once the process is over, she's removed from the chamber and Clu inspects her.
"A story Flynn once mentioned comes to mind. He often spoke of an old User city called Rome. There resided someone who was called 'The God of War'. I think that's a fitting title for her, she'll help me put an end to the war for the Grid. Now, she just needs the name to go along with it." He puts a hand on her shoulder and addresses her, "We've got a lot of work to do, Mars."

My Memories of Gaming in 1998
For many of us gamers, we’ve been playing games since our childhoods. If you were like me, most of your gaming years started around the early 90s. Most of the games during that time are what’s well-known, popular or mainstream nowadays. It doesn’t hurt looking back at the past of gaming and reliving those moments, either through memory or actually playing those games that came out during those times.
One time period that seems to always be mentioned is 1998. While I’m sure not a lot of people remember 1998, especially me since I was still a kid then and didn’t really care about what was going on in the world, a lot of gamers remember it as being a prominent year in gaming. This is mostly due to the fact that the games released then were sequels/prequels, innovative and influential or just commercially successful titles. While you can see a list of them here on Wikipedia, I can tell you here a little about some of the games from that year I’ve experienced. I will say, majority of these games were experienced after 1998 and were only a small play sessions or demos.
Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
Tumblr media
Pretty much my last time playing fighters in arcades. Mostly due to the fact that arcades were hard to come by and the closest one at the time was a 30 minute drive to the mall. Either way, seeing Ryu and MegaMan fight Wolverine and Spiderman was amazing. I wasn’t really good at the game though. I would probably win one match before either the next round or if a bigger kid came and beat me in the next match. It was one of the first games I came across that had crossover characters, which later became a feature I love in fighting games today.
Tekken 3
Tumblr media
This version was just a demo of the game my cousins had, but a demo we played non-stop. The only characters available were Xiaoyu and Eddie in the demo, but once learning Eddie’s spinning kicks, we would have matches to see who was better as him. His stage music has been embedded in my mind, I’m glad NamcoBandai added the Jukebox mode in Tekken 7 (only on PS4, though) just to hear it again.
Gex: Enter the Gecko
I’ve been seeing commercials and booths advertising this game so much, I thought he was a game character I just never heard of, and there were a lot of them at the time. I got a hold of the game as a rental and played it. The cartridge I had wasn’t completed, so I continued. After not getting far, I started a new game from scratch. Needless to say, I wasn’t too interested in the game. The gecko mechanics were pretty good, but I think I had problems with attacking enemies. I remember smiling at some of the quips from Gex, but looking back at them now, they still make me smile, but only how lame they are now.
Metal Gear Solid
Tumblr media
A game series that I would have never would thought would stick with me. The demo for Metal Gear Solid was so intense for me, that it took me years to actually man up and play the demo in its entirety. I remember my cousin and I were scared to get past the front entrance to the base because we didn’t know how to get pass the guards without getting caught. Hearing the screams and cries of Colonel Campbell, Dr. Naomi and Mei Ling after Snake dies were a bit too dramatic for me. Granted, this was a huge jump from Mario and Sonic games, but the interesting story, realism of the world and dramatic acting was too much for me to not know what the game was all about. After playing the demo, I wanted to play the game, but didn’t had a memory card at the time and Metal Gear Solid 2 was already out. I did finally played it, but it was the Twin Snakes version.
NASCAR 99 & Madden NFL
These were random sports games my father bought. NASCAR was bought one day after work. Madden was a Christmas gift. I wasn’t really interested in sports titles, mostly because I was not good at them. I guess it was his way to get me into sports and get me from playing games so much. I didn’t really play them much with anyone either. For some reason, Madden 97 was still fun on the PSOne.
NFL Blitz
Tumblr media
Then this bad boy came out and I was hooked! You telling me I can play a football game in arcade style AND body slam my opponents when I’m mad at a play?! Anyways, the arcade style of the game make someone like me who didn’t understand football at the time learn it quickly. Finding and printing out cheat codes for the game to put in (Headless mode, anyone?) were great, especially rushing to see who can put in the most codes (they even worked in the demo, too!). Plus, the music made each game more like an epic battle was about to go down in the stadium. One of my greatest moments was using the game to predict the Super Bowl XXXIII game between Falcons and Broncos by finally beating my cousin in the game with the Broncos. This game was the hypest shit when it came out and I only wish it continued better than it did.
Spyro the Dragon
I remember when my sister and I finally got ourselves a PSOne, it came with a Playstation Underground disc. It had some games, including Spyro the Dragon, but also promoting the game by having a behind the scenes of the development of the game. I didn’t understand most of it as a kid, but it was cool to see a look into making a game like that. The game’s music always stuck with me, especially the calming sounds of Dark Hollow and the rocking beat of the Title Screen that played in the Overworld in the demo.
Pokemon Red & Blue
Tumblr media
Once these games came out in the US in 1998, I wasn’t too sure on what to make of it. It as a GameBoy game, which was already interesting, but it was an RPG style game that came out around the time of the virtual pet craze, which was starting to become oversaturated to me already. I guess it being an actual video game was enough to spark my interest. I only got a chance to play a bit of it thanks to a friend, but it was interesting to see a world were I can just go around, collect, fight and trade monsters and raise them to become stronger. I finally got the game a few years later, but by then Gold and Silver was about to come out.
Delta Force
Tumblr media
Another random game I got which I honestly don’t remember if it was for my birthday or Christmas. Regardless, this was my first experience with a military style shooter. Needless to say, this game was only loaded probably three times. The game was too realistic for me to understand how to play and PC gaming was still new to me. I thought it was just a cheap selling PC game, but I’m now learning it was a pretty popular series that had its starting in 1998.
MediEval
The demo of this game was so fun, I can’t think of any time where we would not turn on the PSOne and not play it. I remember really wanting the game when it finally came out, but unfortunately we couldn’t get it. It was interesting to see the game’s dark and gloomy atmosphere. Paired with the weird motion animation common in PSOne games back then and it made some of the cutscenes and enemy movements kinda scary. I was looking forward to playing the remake, but after hearing some of the reviews, I think I will not spoil it and just find the original and play it instead.
Crash Bandicoot: Warped
Tumblr media
Another demo my cousins and I had that we played numerous times. The cool think it we both had different versions of the demo. One of our disc had the level were Crash is underwater, while the other had the level were Coco is riding the tiger on top of the Great Wall. We never got the game despite playing the demos so much. Usually because by then, my cousin’s PSOne was starting to wear out and we were losing interest in it.
There are other games I’ve eventually played years after their release, but after playing them and learning how popular they are and when they came out, its easy to see how 1998 could be seen as a prominent year in gaming. Its more prominent to me personally because this was a year were most of my favorite games have came out. Some of these games became important to me personally in other ways. I don’t think I would ever have a year like that in my life gaming wise, but I would like to experience more of these games from 1998.
Were there any games you played that came out in 1998 you enjoyed? What was your experience playing it?

So, a few months ago I bought for my birthday that neat double pack of Final Fantasy 7 and 8 remastered for the Switch, because, in anticipation for the relase of the remake of 7, I wanted to replay the original version, since the last time I played it was around 2003-2004.
Anyway, today I finished it, and I got 100% of everything there is to do and achieve in the game, and man does it feel good. And this game it's so good, and it means so much to me, and 23 years after it’s release, it still holds up, it’s that good.
This feels like the end of a cycle. The first time I played it was in 1999, one of my best friends’ brother got the pc version of the game for him after a trip to the US, so we played it and loved every single part of it, but we weren't able to finish it because my friend’s computer wasn’t good enough to run the whole game, so the whole thing always froze during the end of disc 1.
Final Fantasy 7 became my first big RPG and it’s story and characters pretty much changed how games worked for me. Sure, I had played some RPG’s before (I was obsessed with Pokémon at that age) and I had already played some Zelda titles that I still love to this day, among other things, but FF7 showed me a scope that was unlike anything I’d ever seen to that point. I was 11 years old and hungry for more.
So, as time went on, I played many RPG’s. Me and my friends played and finished Final Fantasy 8 (another game I hold dear to my heart) and Chrono Trigger, and I played and finished Final Fantasies from 4 through 6 (6 is still my favourite of them all to this day), and I discovered tactics RPG’s with FF Tactics, but also with the Ogre Battle and Shining Force series, and so many more games around that time. But Final Fantasy 7 still haunted me.
So, around 2003-2004, my dad bought a new PC, and finally we were able to finish FF7, since my computer was now able to run it without problems. It was amazing, but since we were still around 15-16 years old, there were many things we weren’t able to achieve or understand about the game. We never got a golden chocobo, nor Knights of the Round and all those game breaking materias that you can get before the final fight with Sephiroth. We never defeated Emerald and Ruby weapon, and the list goes on.
Jump forward to 2020, and to finally be able to say that I beat the game and achieved 100% of everything there’s to do, man it feels good to be able to make all those things we weren’t able when we where kids and teenagers. But also, it feels like closing a cycle, and just in time for the remake relase in april. So yeah, FF7 it’s gonna keep making me company for years to come.

Microsoft Xbox One S review
The Good The Xbox One S is a slick looking game console that's 40 percent smaller than the original and ditches the infamously gigantic power brick. It can display 4K video from streaming services and Ultra HD Blu-rays, and supports HDR contrast on video and games. The updated controller works with other Bluetooth devices, too.
The Bad 4K, Ultra HD Blu-ray and HDR settings only work with newer TVs, and may require some trial and error. The updated controller feels cheaper than its predecessor. Project Scorpio, the more powerful Xbox One successor, arrives in late 2017.
The Bottom Line The Xbox One S is the console Microsoft should have delivered three years ago, but there's little reason to upgrade if you already own the original box.
Tumblr media
The Xbox One S is the version of the console that Microsoft should've first released back in 2013 instead of the lumbering beast that we got. It's better in a number of ways, making it even more of a worthy alternative to Sony's PlayStation 4.
Xbox One S offers a far more attractive enclosure, options for a bigger hard drive, a slightly redesigned controller and some video perks for owners of 4K TVs. It starts at $300, £250 or AU$400 for the 500GB version; $350, £300 or AU$500 for a 1TB model; and $400, £350 or AU$549 for 2TB.
That last model is available to buy as of today in the US (and includes the vertical stand that otherwise costs $20 when purchased separately in the US), while those with the smaller hard drives will be available later in August, bundled with games such as Madden 17 and Halo. (Additional bundles will follow later in the year -- including a pricier 2TB Gears of War 4 version in October -- and may vary by region.)
Sounds like a slam dunk, right? Unfortunately, it's never that simple. The One S doesn't get an across-the-board "buy it now" recommendation for two reasons. First off, it doesn't deliver huge improvements for anyone who already owns an Xbox One. But more importantly, Microsoft has already promised that the next Xbox -- dubbed Project Scorpio -- will be arriving in late 2017 with with the seriously amped-up graphics and VR-ready hardware that audiences are clamoring for.
When it's all said and done, the Xbox One S should be primarily viewed as a slimmed-down version of the Xbox One that introduces a mildly updated controller and provisions for 4K display. It's not going to warp you into a state-of-the-art gaming experience. Pragmatically, you're probably better off nabbing an older Xbox One, which are now being sold at fire-sale prices. But if you are getting an Xbox One for the first time, have an interest in the bundled games and aren't saving your pennies for 2017's Project Scorpio, the One S is certainly a good all-round gaming and entertainment deal.
Note: I found a site where you can complete task and get free Xbox gift card Codes
What's new in the Xbox One S
There's a short but significant list of improvements and changes to the Xbox One S.
Smaller, cleaner design: To start, it's 40 percent smaller, which considering its power supply is now internal, is impressive. It's also stark white, with some slick plastic moldings flanking the entirety of the box. I think it's the best-looking Xbox Microsoft has ever designed.
Tumblr media
The One S can also stand vertically, too. The 2TB model we received for review packs in a stand. If you buy one of the other models, you can get the stand separately for $20.
4K and HDR video: Xbox One S gets a fairly beefy upgrade on its video capabilities, with 4K resolution (3,840x2,160, or four times as sharp as standard 1080p HDTVs) and HDR (high dynamic range, which is basically enhanced contrast and color). Keep in mind: those features only work on compatible TVs and 4K functionality only works with a small but growing list of compatible video content. 4K can currently be accessed through streaming video services such as Amazon and Netflix (as long as you have the bandwidth to support it and pay for their premium tier) and those new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. Certain games, meanwhile, will eventually be able to take advantage of HDR visual improvements, but don't look for PC-like 4K graphics -- the games are merely upscaled to 4K.
So no, you're not getting native 4K gaming out of an Xbox One S. In fact, only a limited number of games will feature HDR and none of them are out yet. They are Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3 and 2017's Scalebound.
New controller design: The Xbox One controller has been updated for the S, too. It has a more streamlined top section, better range and textured grips. It can also use Bluetooth to connect, which opens the door for compatibility with other devices -- no more annoying dongles, at least on Bluetooth-compatible PCs.
Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of the new controller's design. It's not a drastic departure from the original, but there's just enough of a change to make it feel cheaper. The plastic textured grips don't feel good the way rubberized ones do, but thankfully the triggers seem unchanged. The D-pad also feels slightly less tactile -- I even noticed differences between two of the new controllers side by side.
IR blaster and receiver: Still present is the IR port for controlling the console with a remote, but the Xbox One S also features an integrated IR blaster to control or power on other devices in the room.
And it still does everything the old Xbox One does: The good news is that you're not losing anything with the Xbox One S compared with its predecessor. Around back the console offers a lot of the same ports as the original Xbox One, though noticeably absent is a dedicated Kinect port. You can still attach Kinect to the Xbox One S, you'll just need a special $40 (!) adapter. Either way, the omission of a Kinect port should give you an idea of how that peripheral is regarded at Microsoft HQ.
HDMI-in and -out ports are still there, so you can still make use of the Xbox One's live TV integration if that's something that appeals to you, but I never found it overly useful.
Suffice it to say, the One S plays all existing Xbox One games, and a growing list of Xbox 360 games. It also includes all of the encouraging software improvements Microsoft has made over the past few years, including the redesigned interface, support for the Cortana digital assistant (using a microphone headset), compatibility with the Windows Store and, soon, additional cross-play options with Windows PC gamers on certain titles.
4K and HDR scorecard
I want to personally thank the Xbox One S for introducing me to the hot mess that is the world of 4K and HDR formats. I considered myself fairly fluent in the language of home theater, but I was bewildered at the insane of amount of granularity and confusion that the format is currently plagued with.
Odds are you won't be able set up in 4K right out of the box. I needed to download two separate updates for the Xbox One S to finally realize it was attached to a 4K TV, at which point it offered to bump up the resolution output to 4K.
Tumblr media
I hooked the console up to four different TVs and had mixed results with each, so I tapped CNET's David Katzmaier to help me test out the rest of the Xbox One S' 4K and HDR capabilities.
What we learned is that getting all of these finicky display technologies to work together in sync will require some trial and error -- and patience.
Our major issue was getting our TVs to recognize HDR. The problem (which isn't solely the Xbox One S' fault) is that some TVs with HDR require a specific "UHD" or "deep color" setting to be turned on in order for HDR to work. These modes usually turn a TV's brightness all the way up and activate automatically when HDR content is detected. But none of our TVs detected the Ultra HD Blu-ray HDR signal that was being output by our "Star Trek" Blu-ray.
It wasn't until we forced the Xbox One S to output a higher bit depth (10-bit up from the console's default setting of 8-bit) did we get a clean HDR signal. Furthermore, we had issues maintaining a video signal altogether when our TV was in that special "UHD/deep color" setting for HDR but the Xbox One S was outputting a signal lower than 10-bit.
Sound confusing? That's because it was. And this was with the help of one of the best TV reviewers on the planet. It's possible your setup goes smoother, but there are definitely a lot of variables and boxes to check when entering the world of 4K, Ultra HD and HDR to make sure it all works correctly.
There's a really helpful 4K detail screen in the system display settings that gives you a heads up of which requirements for 4K, HDR and so on are currently being met. Definitely check that out.
Tragically, all of this time-consuming troubleshooting to get HDR to switch on isn't always worth it. In fact, it's sometimes nearly impossible to tell just by looking at the image onscreen. We tried. The takeaway? 4K and HDR are nice novelties, but I'm not sure even the most discerning eyes can always tell the difference. And because only a fraction of games will even support HDR (the aforementioned trio of Gears of War 4, Forza Horizon 3 and Scalebound), it makes upgrading a tough sell. Not to mention the fact that all the games you'll ever play on Xbox One S won't be in true native 4K resolution -- they'll just be upscaled to fit.
That said, there are plenty of 4K Blu-rays out there, and Netflix can stream some content in 4K (as long as you pay for its Premium tier). If you are in the specific position of owning a 4K TV and are looking for an Xbox One, the S is what you should be buying.
It's worth noting that the Xbox One S doesn't handle the higher-end audio options out there such as Dolby Atmos. The most you'll get out of the console is a seven-channel surround signal.
Looking forward to Project Scorpio
Microsoft's messaging about its console offerings can get confusing. It's best to think of the Xbox One and One S as their own tier. In terms of graphical horsepower, they're equal. The next jump in visuals and performance will come along with Project Scorpio, which is being targeted for the 2017 holiday season.
Details on that machine are scant at best, but it's safe to say it will significantly outperform the Xbox One and One S, the PlayStation 4 and -- if we're going on rumored specs -- the PlayStation 4 step-up console, the PS4 Neo.
Tumblr media
This will usher in a sizable upgrade in all aspects of gaming with native 4K resolution output and HDR support. And Microsoft has already pledged that Scorpio will be "VR ready," presumably for a forthcoming virtual-reality headset.
The current messaging as to how games will work across Xbox One platforms seems simple enough. Any Xbox One (be it a standard, S or Project Scorpio) will be able to play any Xbox One game, though the Scorpio will be able to take advantage of better graphics, performance, frame rate and resolution. This seems to mostly fall in line with the PS4 Neo plan as well.
If we're just comparing raw specs, Project Scorpio's rumored details still fall short of what an Nvidia GTX 1080 graphics card is capable of.
Decisions, decisions
Under most circumstances, no, you don't need to buy an Xbox One S. If you already own an Xbox One or even plan to wait for whatever Project Scorpio winds up being, it's tough to rationalize a purchase.
If you're looking to enter the Xbox One space and you don't feel like waiting a year or more for Project Scorpio, an Xbox One S might be the right purchase for you as long as you have or plan to get a 4K TV.
If a 4K TV isn't in your future, you may want to look at the original Xbox One. It's already as low as $250, £250 or AU$500 and it's entirely possible Microsoft will drive the price even lower if it's looking to sunset the model and clear out remaining inventory.

Shining Force CD (Sega CD)
Tumblr media
youtube
I remember when the Sega CD first came out, it was the new hotness.  News of any kids actually owning were relegated to school hall whispers, like, “Hey, I heard Ryan got a Sega CD for Christmas!  The games are like MOVIES!”
Mind you, the only computer games I was aware of at the time were floppy disc DOS games - I had yet to experience a CD-ROM game on a PC.  Although shortly after the release of the Sega CD, my school’s library would obtain its one and only CD-ROM computer, which was ALWAYS occupied with some kid or another playing a game on it, which I remember being a Mother Goose point-and-click adventure.  The waiting list was too long to bother trying to get a turn on it, plus the Mother Goose game didn’t look half as fun as good ol’ Word/Number Munchers, so fuck it.
I’m getting way off track - my point is this looked like the shit!  Of course, nowadays we’ve come to realize the Sega CD was *just* shit.  Even as an adult, I haven’t had much experience with the console, beyond dabbling with the cheesy cult classic Night Trap and some game called Bouncers...

...where you control anthropomorphic basketballs that you bounce into hoops and... that’s about it.  Here’s my short review of it:
Tumblr media
Speaking of MST3K, as a fan of bad movies, I had always been curious about the infamously bad FMV games for the Sega CD.  There’s Curly’s gold in them hills!  So I’ve decided I’m going to try and cover as many Sega CD games as I can get to work on my emulator (ain’t gonna buy that shit, that’s for sure).
I decided, instead of jumping right into the deep end of the most wretched games the console has to offer, though, I’ll take it slowly and maybe play something *good* first.  Also, I really enjoy Shining Force, so when I saw there was a Shining Force game on the Sega CD, I honed in on it immediately!
Shining Force CD, developed and published by Sega, was released in the United States in 1995.  The game consists of four “books”, the first two of which, as it turned out, were ports of the Game Gear games!  That was a nice surprise, in that the first Shining Force game I ever played was Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya for Game Gear, which was a direct sequel to Shining Force Gaiden.  So I remember the story (such as it was) being mostly lost on me.  After playing through Book 1 of Shining Force CD, the mystery of what happened in Gaiden is resolved.  I can sleep peacefully at last.
The story is just your standard fantasy crap anyway, where the good kingdom is being attacked by the bad kingdom, lead by an evil wizard, blah blah blah.  The story isn’t why I play these games - I’m all about that tactical RPG action, baby!  Gimme them grids!!!
Anyway, the second half of the game, consisting of books 3 and 4, are all new material, but you can only unlock them after beating books 1 and 2.  I could see this being an irritating prerequisite for fans who already played through both Gaiden games and are anxious for the new stuff.  I was certainly slightly annoyed when I started Book 2 and it dawned on me I was playing Sword of Hajya again.  As a matter of fact, I was so annoyed I quit the game altogether.
That aside, these are still very fun games, as simplistic as they are compared to modern tactical RPGs like Fire Emblem or X-COM.  You are given a team of characters to control, which gradually grow as the story progresses and more people join your ranks (making the game feel a bit like Suikoden in that respect).  The story only moves forward after you win battles, which are presented in linear order.  Although the game doesn’t give you optional battles as opportunities to level grind your troops, the game does a fair job of giving you plenty of baddies to dispatch in every battle so all members of your party have a chance to get some of those sweet, sweet experience points.  This causes you to have to think ahead, using your stronger characters to soften up the enemies, before letting the characters lagging behind to deliver the killing blow, thereby getting the XP.  This can be risky business, though, as leaving certain enemies alive long enough can give them a chance to fuck up your shit, so use your own discretion, although I approached each battle with the following phrase:
ALWAYS. BE. CLOSING.
I think got that from Glengarry Glen Ross.  Anyway, it means go ahead and kill the monster before they get a chance to kill you, even if that means your absurdly strong centaur is gorging on experience points he doesn’t need.  That being said, this game would have benefited from some kind of timeline that lets you see whose turn is coming up and in what order.  Instead, it’s kind of a shot in the dark, and sometimes an enemy will even get two consecutive turns in a row out of nowhere (usually bosses)!
After every fight, you go to camp, where you can “Promote” characters to stronger job classes, revive “exhausted” (or dead) characters, “Talk” to your characters (which serves no purpose as they don’t say anything beyond innocuous phrases like “For Guardiana!!!” or some shit); or use items and equip your characters with loot you found during battle.  Every now and then, a camp will also feature a shop where you can buy new equipment and items.  If you’re diligent about killing every enemy on the screen in every battle (and you really should be), you won’t have any problem affording the newest weapons and health items whenever these shops pop up.  You can also visit the camp after losing a battle to regroup and try again, which is nice.
I don’t know if it’s obvious yet, but I really enjoyed this game, despite not finishing it.  As someone who plays tactical RPGs a lot, i didn’t find this game particularly challenging, although I had it set on “Normal”.  Perhaps on Hard or Very Hard, the enemy is a little more merciless.  Still, the game was challenging enough to provide a lot of entertainment and I’d be willing to say Shining Force CD is one of a handful of diamonds in the Sega CD rough.

Hello my little Pepperoncinis,
Tumblr media
My friend and I were discussing first game systems recently.
She told me how she went to Spain with her parents and how everyone kept staring at a little girl in a stroller with the new hand held Gameboy that just came out. Not yet released in Spain.
This made me think how my experience was completely different. Games were usually a boys thing. So my parents got stuffed animals and toys. But then I remembered growing up on educational games. Boom, unlocked memories...
I remember a tan box-like desktop with a tiny rainbow stripped apple logo, dark blue floppy discs, and that clunky keyboard. Of course, I was not aloud to touch mothers things. So I would watch her do taxes and other important things.
One day, I obsessed figuring how to use the new rainbow Macintosh desktop. As I skimmed through piles and found, "Star Wars: Dark Forces." A first-person shooter video game released in 1995. Of course, I never got passed the starter room. I still think to this day that it was broken.
A time later, I was struggling in school due to extreme dyslexia and my parents started buying interactive educational games. I loved it and spent hours on them. The Playroom, Living Books: Harry and the Haunted House, Math Blasters, Reader Rabbit, Jump Start, and more.
Of course, no gameboy...
But that all changed when the brother was born. He got all the games. We had an Xbox, PS, Wii, and further versions. They would tell us it was our brothers, but they later accepted that we all liked games and shared.
Today, I am more of Nintendo switch and PC girl. Also, PlayStation over Xbox.

in another day of my... way-too unlucky week with my laptop.
I know at this point it’s more of a “get over it”, kind of thing, but truly... I haven’t been... feeling this down in a while.
It does feel like I’m working on a(nother) new laptop.
Most of my complaint side goes back on “how serious was this, truly?” because, sure, the looping “automatic attempting to fix a error disc” over and over is, well, very serious... but what really DID motivate ot to do a whole reinstalling of the OS (and one that, wasn’t the original version of the laptop, in the first place)?
Way back when W10 was launched, I remember the pain of being reminded frequently in my W7 laptop -which I originally used for work- that it was possible to automatically update it to W10 (in contrast, my PC, which had a pirate copy of W8, didn’t)... but that also brought some issues along the way (I’m 50/50 sure it had to do with hardware stuff... and also because early W10 wasn’t... really good)... and the only way to turn this whole “automatic” update was turning off Windows Updates (now, if you ask me if I ever reactivated it again in my laptop since up until early this year when it was starting to barely work? Nah :) ). Of course, MS eventually backed off because W7 (and W8, W8.1) was still working nicely during that time and this was like a slap on the face because it was forcing users to update to a newer OS they didn’t wanted to jump in yet :)))
I didn’t really give W10 a try until 2018 when my work laptop had it, and it was a little bit confusing (TOO user friendly, for starters)... but I also realized that maybe that laptop had a previous W10 version (similar as this new laptop has it now), hence some issues I had back in the day. So, once I bought and got my newer one, last year... to be honest? It had its charm? worked efficiently? Heck, I loved the new perks they included with newer updates? (the biggest update so far for this specific W10 version was added in April of this year)
And, in general... I loved not having frequent BSODs, I loved that Chrome didn’t freeze once in a while due to a great load of memory data (hence I was ANGERED when some months back I logged into FB... how godawful is that UI that it froze Chrome on ME for several minutes!?), I loved not having frequent issues with my Intuos tablet (I only recently started to get the infamous “Wacom_Tablet.exe isn’t found” error window message; but I know that Wacom and Windows -esp. W10- aren’t too friendly with each other), etc, etc.
Sure, I had OTHER issues with it (installing a very messy pirate Office was the one mistake I DO regret, because I feel it is HOW it started the whole bad... and I cannot fathom HOW it got updated to 365, for starters... I tend to WONDER if this is what messed EVERYTHING up), but not as BAD as the old laptop (which, let me tell you - it was problematic all around since 2015, we even were forced to disconnect its in-built keyboard, and with that, its ability to connect to wifi...), but I didn’t have other complaints, really?
So... when I sent this to get repaired, and besides having a new (yet quite old version) OS... the technician told us he blocked Windows Updates, because it may have been a cause to get the disk error thing... buuuuut, at the same time... having Updates on is what makes this machine working more efficiently. If this was W7 or W8, I guess I shouldn’t have cared (again, had updates turned off in my old laptop with W7 for 5-6 years)... but MS is pretty “petty” these days, hence WHY it’s almost impossible to block updates as before (you can just pause it for 30 days, and, while understandbly so, because bad updates messing a computer is possible, and I have read a lot, a LOT of bad stories about those)... and heck, it also fixes some of the “early W10 version” aesthetically issues thatI find a pain to look at.
So, now I’m between a rock and a hard place about those and if I should turn them on sooner than later.
This isn’t the first time he told us that, either... the work laptop from before? he also told us that Updates was a no-no option... but it has gone through several updates since; I cannot verify right now when was the last time it went through those because it barely can stay on if you aren’t careful enough, lmao (a battery and a charging plug issue combined is hell). Sure it still maintains the now known “dark mode”, it is also somewhat slow for its own (but that could’ve been because it was originally apt for W7, not W10)... but it’s at least a little more up to date than... whatever this is stuck with.
While I haven’t had major issues in the last four days, I do have presenced a few times where my mouse has frozen :’D (which was highly a rare occurrence before all of this happened), and now I’m kinda wondering how responsive the laptop will be once I install my Intuos tablet’s driver... considering what I have gone through before (even having that annoying error message window appearing on the locked screen when turning on the computer... do I have to set a pw to prepare for what may happen?), does this mean should I start getting worried about potential BSODs? Should I be able to test some games that I dl’ed ages ago but my old laptop wouldn’t handle anymore? Should I get worried of something worse happening? At least this turns me long enough off on logging into fb, thank GOD...
But, at the same time, wouldn’t lie that this is a massive turn off on everything I was planning to do, at least in the upcoming months. Let’s say that, at least, the driver thing works, that I put the pw thing to avoid the other potential issue related to it... but, for example, what about CSP? that’s... still off the table. I bought a license in 2019, but haven’t installed the program since because everything I listed here; they do say you can activate the license on three computers at the same time... but, what happens if I got forced to reinstall the OS and didn’t prepare to deactivate it in one computer? similar to what I just got through?
I just cannot jump into smth big until I feel “sure” on the laptop, again. This... just killed all my excitement for the meantime. I have all my files, I can save them in an HDD.. I can prepare to save settings on stuff I normally use (like FireAlpaca, or the Intuos tablet) but getting used to an early OS version you aren’t used to, getting told that “it’s for the best to block updates” (despite... you know, these make the computer work a little bit better? and early W10 kinda sucked?), installing EVERY program or thing you usually worked with AGAIN (have I told you about that time whereI gave up in iTunes initially because I HAD to install the gdmn program to put my mp3 back into my lame 1 GB iPod Shuffle? because that was the only FREE way to charge its battery up? 2010-2011 wasnt a good year, I SWEAR).
This is pretty tiring, UGHHHH.
Also, not sure if this a thing tumblr does, but... has been typing in tumblr in these kind of long posts (when doing it on a whim, not using Word to do so)  getting pretty slow (some tumblr update thing got messed up), or is it my imagination (Chrome might be doing it?) I’m not sure...
