Dance Of Thieves Duology Quotes That Got Me
"Desperation can be a good teacher, maybe the best teacher."
"I tossed a smile at him as he left. I guessed it worried him more than my glare."
"It was that everyone had a story that they burned to tell, the true story they believed no one else could ever get right, the injustices they endured, the unserved accolades they deserved."
"Maybe he at least wanted to look presentable hanging from a tembris if he was caught."
"History wasn't just written on walls and in books but made in a thousand daily decisions, and some of them went wrong , some went right and some decisions just had to be made because time was running out. Waiting for someone else to write your history was no way to live. Sometimes it was only a certain way to die."
"There is magic in everything, only you must watch for it. It does not come from spells or potions or the sky, nor by special delivery of the gods. It is all around you.
Shhh.
You must find the magic that curls in your gut with fierce power and will not let you give up.Hear the language that isn't spoken, Kazi, the breaths, the pauses, the fisted hands, the vacant stares, the twitches and tears..."
"A wilderness sprang up around us, wish stalks filled out pockets, and a chain jingled in between our ankles."

Book Review: Dance of Thieves
Tumblr media
Overall: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
For starters, I loved this book so much that I immediately went out and bought a hard copy of both this and the sequel (I normally read on my kindle). Plus, the cover of both books are gorgeous, so they're great additions to my bookshelf ❤️
I'm a sucker for a strong female lead and Kazi checked all those boxes. Did it also give me a strong male lead who cares about his family and his people, but has to make hard and sometimes questionable decisions? Yes, enter Jase Ballenger. The dynamic between these two is enticing. What secrets are being held? Are they friends? Enemies? Playing each other? Or something more?
I will say that relationship plotlines do take the center stage with the action and story happening around that. I, personally, enjoyed that but I can see why that would turn people off. I didn't read The Remnant Chronicles until afterwards - which I kind of regret. It's not absolutely necessary, but I do think it adds a little to the story.
This is a little different of a thieving book than Six of Crows. The focus is not on the scheming and planning but more of the adjustments and patience you have to have to pull off a "job".

Kazi (banging the table): You f*cking piece of sh*t! How dare you?!
Jase (slamming the table): The hell?! It was just a goddamn sage cake, you childish-
Kazi (literally flipping the table): CHILDISH?! THE ONLY CHILDISH ONE HERE IS YOU. HOW COULD YOU NOT LIKE SAGE CAKE?!

Help!
I'm making a Dance/Vow of Thieves Playlist for a friend and I need more songs to put in it. Can you write songs that make you think of it/ you listened to while reading the book?

O desespero pode fazer com que uma pessoa seja incrivelmente idiota ou incrivelmente forte, ou talvez ambos.

If I could throw "Dance of Thieves" across the room and scream I would. However that is not acceptable workplace behavior...I need to stop doing this to myself.

we need a padawan shenanigans series. just have each generation of padawans sneaking out to underground coruscant or pranking their friends. every time a master tries to say something their friend reminds them what a menace they were at that age.

Finally.
Completed the Dance of Thieves + Vow of Thieves spread 10 days after reading the books. Pracrastination has been bad the past few days. I guess I'm just proud I completed it.
Also, while usually I would have read at least 1 more book by now, I haven't been able to. I did the atrocious mistake of picking up 'A Christmas Carol' with the assumption that I'd complete it in two days easily as it's only around a 100 pages, complacently forgetting my previous (somewhat dire) attempts at finishing Charles Dickens' books. I hope I complete it tomorrow though; or I'll just pick up another Mary E. Pearson novel.
P.S.- Thank you so much to everyone who liked my Dance of Thieves Duology post. I'm still kinda new to posting on Tumblr and it just makes me so happy to know that someone even reads my posts.

ok so far my glossary for dance of thieves:
kazimyrah - kazimira (this is a first name, ‘the one who breaks peace’ would be my liberal translation i guess)
patrei - i guess pater familias i mean that’s just latin and his father just died and he’s the leader now so yeah pater familias
straza - straža (they’re literally a guard so that one was king of obvious. tho ngl i did think it was supposed to be stronza but that’s only because i was influenced by the latinism of patrei and went the italian direction, but from the context i realised that the word refers to a guard)
the komizar - komesar (this one was more difficult because it kept reminding me of komiža, but then i found out that the komizar is a person and a he so right now, i’m thinking komesar)

Ello, ello, ello! I’ve just finished reading the Dance of Thieves duology but before I wrote my review I wanted to ask a question…would people prefer shorter reviews? I noticed my initial thoughts (and shorter post) on Divine Rivals was better received than the longer one and was wondering if people weren’t feeling like reading so many words…let me know! xx
