can I share something that might be an unpopular opinion? is this a safe space?
so obvs The Lawsuit™️ gets talked about all the time. and while I understand Buck’s thinking… do I necessarily agree a whole lawsuit was the way to go? depends on the day. but! what I wanna know that I don’t see a ton of discourse about, is do we think Buck forgave Bobby too quickly with the treatment he gave post-lawsuit (and the treatment that led to the lawsuit in the first place tbh)?
the whole reason the lawsuit happened is because of what Buck essentially considered as Bobby’s betrayal. we know about the Divorce Era with Eddie that happened BECAUSE OF the lawsuit, we know Hen was the only one to properly welcome Buck back with a cupcake and not really hold the lawsuit against him, but we also know Bobby was still kind of a d!ck and influenced the behaviors of the rest of the 118 after the lawsuit.
we really just see Buck at the hospital after getting checked out because he cut his arm saving those people on Halloween, and Bobby showing up and being like, ‘hm, maybe you are ready to come back’ and Buck is like ‘wanna get breakfast’ 🤨
am I the only one that kind of wishes Buck like. acknowledged Bobby’s behavior? like I get he was just so grateful to have it all over, to be back to properly working etc. but NOTHING?! I mean maybe he felt so bad about the lawsuit he didn’t care? Idk someone talk this out with me

I'm just saying the show shouldn't let people assault Buck and keep him acting like it's his fault.

Buddie Fic Recs
This is my 5th Buddie Rec List! I started compiling this list last April and omg looking back through them now I desperately need to reread them all. Highly recommend all of these fics, also please show the authors some love in their comments xx Happy Easter lovelies <3 REMINDER TO CHECK THE TAGS AND TRIGGER WARNINGS
where our eyes are never closing by @rewritetheending | T | 6k
After the lightning strike, Buck asks Eddie to take candid photos of him to help prove to Buck that he still exists. Absolute PEAK Softness. Buck through Eddie's eyes! I was a mushy puddle by the end. 10/10 would recommend.
i got all my sisters with me by @useramor | T | 6k
Established relationship Buddie. Eddie’s sister has a baby and they travel down to Texas to meet the baby. DIAZ SIBLINGS UNITE! Seriously though the sibling dynamic in this is off the charts and Buck and Eddie are sickeningly in love, it is quite beautiful.
meet me where the tide comes in by @iinryer | G | 4k
A 3+1 fic about Eddie getting kissed on the head. FOREHEAD KISSES PTSD MORE HEAD KISSES AND BOYS IN LOVE!! Need I say anything more??
The one where Buck gets turned into a dog by @911onabc | G | 9k
Law Suit era BUT WAIT WAIT….DOG BUCK!! I am a sucker for fic where one of them gets turned into an animal. They are much more free with their affection when they think it's just a dog, or just a cat, and the bond between Eddie and "Boy" is so so wonderful. And I do love a happy ending xx
can't do this anymore (do it anyway) by @chronicowboy | T | 2k
Short and sweet but GOD this packs a punch. Eddie starts dating after the lightning strike and Buck is feeling Big Bad about it. He is so sad it truly breaks my heart but all works itself out in the end and Eddie proves Buck’s fears wrong.
We Found Each Other (Over There)  by @thekristen999 | T | 46k
Buddie WWII AU. A combat medic and a G.I. meet during one of the world’s greatest battles. This fic is a legitimate masterpiece. I cannot describe to you the quality of this fic because it is beyond words but I will tell you I stayed up until 3:30 am to finish it in one sitting and was left broken but made so so whole again.
the mortifying ordeal of being known by @the-amber-raven | G | 60k
AU where Bobby is Buck’s adoptive Dad and Eddie is dating Buck but Eddie and Bobby think they are talking about two different people. Buck is training at the fire academy but hiding it from Bobby. This fic is the most beautiful tangle of miscommunication, love and family.
like all good things are by @try-set-me-on-fire | T | 7k
Perfect, amazing, soul-destroying, magical, healing Fic. This literally covers all the bases. Chim and Bobby both get injured. OH! and Buck and Eddie were secretly dating all along. READ THIS FIC PEEPS!
find a way to you (if it kills me) by @eddiediazes  | M | 19k
The one where Eddie decides to start dating again, Buck figures out his own feelings just a minute too late, and then he spends a week going through the five stages of grief. BUCK PINING LV.10000000!
and i’d choose you (in a hundred lifetimes) by @monsterrae1 | E | 16k
Amnesia Exes fic by the wonderful Rae. Buck and Eddie fall in love via a penpal program and then Buck vanishes. This fic is set four years later. I literally could not put it down. I was reading it in class and then sat in my car for who knows how long just to finish it because I could not continue my day without knowing how it ended.
he never thinks of me (except when i'm on TV) by @loserdiaz | M | 18k
APRIL'S FAMOUS!BUCK AND ARMY!EDDIE FIC!! In which Eddie finds out years later that his unrequited feelings for his high school best friend were not actually unrequited, Buck is stupidly famous now and they pine. OH THEY PINNNEEEEE! It’s delicious.
every time we stop talking (the universe starts screaming) by @chronicowboy | M | 21k
Alternative S7, Buddie Divorce Era Pt.2. Buck does something reckless and Eddie gets angry about it but these boys cannot communicate effectively to save their lives! This fic is peak angst to a happy ending and I felt like I had a hole in my chest OMG.
left your mark on this heart by @chronicowboy | G | 5k
Buck gets medically diagnosed with butterflies and the doctor makes him write in a notebook every time it happens. Surprise, surprise, the cause and effect is Eddie-related. The notebook entries kill me in the best way, the happiest happy ending
ALSO, YES THIS IS THE THIRD FIC BY THE SAME AUTHOR ON THIS LIST WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT?? READ IT IS WHAT! COS THEY'RE SO DAMN GOOD.
endless numbered days by @cal-daisies-and-briars | G | 13k
Buck and Eddie's wedding but from Bobby's POV as Bobby reflects on the family he lost and the one he gained. Absolutely beautiful, I cried.
don’t wanna let you love somebody else but me by @shitouttabuck | T | 14k
Chris wants dating advice so obviously Buck and Eddie decide to Fake Date for research purposes. This fic is PEAK adorable, sappy, and awkward Buddie. They’re idiots but we love them and the certainly love each other. READ THIS FIC!

I don't know who needs to read this, but people who are pro Buck and Tommy having a healthy relationship with good representation on screen, whether it goes the distance or not, are not automatically against Eddie having a coming out arc.
Like guys chill the fuck out.
I would argue that 7x05 had too many storylines and felt rushed. I'd honestly rather have fewer stories an Episode and each is given proper time (so they don't skip over shit like Buck and Eddie talking post basket ball, or Chim and Buck talking post punch, or Bobby and Athena talking post ship disaster etc). They actually showed the Karen and Hen talks after the Eva storylines and that's so important and good.
Tommy isn't getting screen time without a main with him so stop pretending he is. He's a background character who is currently there to prop up other people's storylines. It's unlikely he will ever be a main as they already have 7 of them. Can you think if you've ever seen a Karen or a Ravi or a Lucy or a Taylor storyline that wasn't there to really be about one of the mains? No.
I am literally seeing BuckTommy enjoyers having to fucking preface their posts with the fact they obviously ship buddie too just so they don't get abused. It's genuinely disgusting that people are more fixated on their specific (and I would defo class it as fetishistic at this point with the obsession some people have with buddie) ship that they would actively damage other people's enjoyment of the show.
This accusation that people don't care bout buddie anymore because Tommy has kissed Buck and Tommy is white is fucking insane. This fandom regularly accuses anyone who says good things about Buck or Bobby of being racist. Maybe, and hear me out, people are happy that they are getting some bi representation? People who have been pro buddie since 2x01 are getting sent hate because they are happy that a character has come out, despite never turning against buddie.
It's literally normal to be watching a show and be like "yes, I want characters X & Y to end up together but currently they aren't and that's not an issue for me". It's a fictional show.
I want Eddie to get a coming out story line and I would not be upset if it didn't revolve around Buck because 1. Eddie is his own person, and 2. I KNOW that if it did revolve around Buck, you guys would immidiately say it's worthless because it's not an Eddie story but actually a story about the "white boy". Like you literally cannot have it both ways.
You can't beg for coming out story lines and then say "wait that's the wrong person they're kissing." It's a coming out story line. It's literally a gateway to a whole new world of stories in the show.
Chill out, go outside, maybe try to enjoy the show you claim to love instead of shitting on it, the actors and the other fans

The first time Chris asks to see Buck, Eddie doesn't hesitate before saying no. The second, third, fourth, fifth times follow immediately after, Christopher's fury growing with each denial. But Eddie doesn't budge. He'll accept the abuses hurled at him, accept the weak punches Chris throws at his chest, accept the I HATE YOU! and slammed bedroom door.
Its nothing he doesn't deserve.
The sixth time Christopher asks, teary-eyed and pleading, Eddie wavers and says not yet. Chris huffs, but he grabs onto that little bit of hope like a lifeline. Eddie doesn't have the heart to tell him that hope is useless.
See, thing is, he knows Christopher is growing up. He knows his son is old enough to handle seeing Buck in a hospital bed - or, well, maybe not handle it, but he knows he's old enough to decide when he's ready to see Buck himself. But Eddie isn't ready.
Eddie wasn't ready when he tried to haul Buck back up onto the ladder, Eddie wasn't ready when he had to relinquish Buck's life to the others with no idea what was happening, Eddie wasn't ready to see Chimney straddling Buck's torso and begging Buck to wake up, Eddie wasn't ready to watch the doctors roll a still unresponsive Buck through the glass doors, Eddie wasn't ready to see Buck cold and still with a tube down his throat.
Christopher's always been braver than him.
But, selfishly, Eddie doesn't think he could handle seeing Chris beg Buck to wake up or say-
No. Eddie knows he couldn't handle it.
And, fuck, maybe its the wrong choice to keep Chris from getting to say goodbye to another parent. Its probably, definitely the wrong choice. But Eddie can't- He just can't.
He can't do this. He can't say goodbye.
Not to Buck.
Its when an Uber pulls up to the house and he catches Christopher trying to sneak out the front door that he realises he couldn't keep them apart anymore than he could have stopped that lightning from hitting Buck.
(You could have stopped it. You could have gone up in his place. You could have been faster. You could have been the one doing CPR. You could have-)
Eddie just grabs his keys and ushers Chris towards the Jeep - a fucking jeep, really? what is it? spit on Eddie day? - waiting for them outside.
He doesn't expect Chris to celebrate, but he also doesn't expect the stony silence that suffocates them in the back of the car. When Chris sniffles, Eddie grabs his hand and lets his own tears roll down his cheeks.
He should say something, but there aren't any words for this. This much he knows.
There weren't any last time either.
Eddie doesn't really register the journey from the parking lot up to Buck's room in the ICU. Not until Christopher suddenly goes very, very still and grabs his hand.
There's not a single part of Eddie that hasn't been shattered since he pushed himself up onto shaky arms and saw Buck hanging from the ladder, still, too still, but right now its the first time he really feels like he's going to fall apart.
"He's in there?" Chris asks, voice tiny and small and so, so scared.
"Yeah, buddy," Eddie croaks, "he's in there. But you don't have to go -"
"Yes. I do." Christopher takes a deep breath and marches towards the door like he's about to walk onto a stage.
Eddie follows. After a moment.
Chris has always been braver than him.
(He hasn't been in Buck's room once. Had only looked at him from beyond the window to his room for a few moments before using Christopher as an excuse to flee. Because he's a coward.)
Eddie doesn't know why he expects Buck's room to be empty. His family is at its biggest right now, even if Eddie remains quietly suspicious of Margaret and Phillip's sudden redemption. And he knows no one would ever let him be alone for more than a bathroom break or a coffee run.
Eddie doesn't know why he's so surprised to see Hen offering Chris her chair by Buck's bedside. She's known Buck the longest - along with Bobby and Chim of course, but between Bobby's superiority and Chimney's rebar, they'd gotten closest the fastest. He doesn't know why he expected Hen to still be at home with her wife and kid.
(Maybe because he'd been desperately jealous that she had someone to shoulder the weight with her.)
The grief-stricken, knowing look Hen shoots him is enough to have his chest tightening up worse than the suit shop.
And then, Christopher reaches for Buck's hand, looking so goddamn young but so fucking determined, and Eddie thinks it'd be fucking typical of him to have a heart attack three days after Buck's heart stops.
"I-I'm sorry, I c-can't." He glances at Hen in what he hopes she understands is a plea to look out for Christopher before fleeing from the room.
His legs don't take him far. His legs were made to get him up that fucking ladder to Buck. His legs weren't made to take him away from him. So, he collapses back against the wall under the window and sinks to the floor just as the first sob racks his body.
Its a painful thing. Like its torn from the very depths of him. Like someone has used the Jaws to pry his chest open and is ripping chunks of his organs out of him.
Its a desperate thing. A prayer and a plea to a universe he doesn't believe in.
Its a quiet thing, however. Because Eddie mastered that art so well that it is deeply ingrained in him.
Its a quiet thing which is why he can still hear Christopher's voice through the thin hospital walls.
"Buck, you promised me-" Christopher's words break, and Eddie breaks with them, pressing his fists into his eyes as hard as he can. "You promised you weren't going anywhere, and you never break your promises."
Eddie doesn't remember this promise. He remembers a hundred pinkie promises between his son and his- His Buck. But he doesn't remember this one. He wonders if it was before or after the-
It was before. Eddie knows Buck well enough to know it was before.
"Wake up, Buck. Please, I-"
Eddie's a coward. He's a coward, that's why he can't get up from the floor. He's a goddamn fucking coward.
"I want my dad," Chris wails, and Eddie doesn't know how he manages it - thinks briefly of stories about mothers lifting cars off their babies - but the next thing he knows he's watching Christopher bury his face in Buck's shoulder.
The left one, not the one with the Lichtenburg figures, the one near his heart.
Eddie doesn't need to look at Hen's tear-streaked face to know that Christopher wasn't asking for him.

If you’re still doing the prompts, could I ask for 22? in a rush of adrenaline for Buddie?
thank you, and sorry it took so long! :D
-
For one wild instant after Eddie grabs him—bruising, frantic, the world all still too loud and too fast and too suddenly bright as the building comes down behind them, scattering pulverized concrete in their wake—Buck genuinely thinks that he's about to get punched.
Eddie would never. Eddie would never. But he's holding Buck's arm tight enough to hurt, and there's blood on his face and his eyes are wild as he yanks them both across the street in a dozen stumbling steps and shoves Buck against the side of the engine, and there really aren't a lot of other explanations for what the hell is happening right now.
"Hey, listen," Buck says, breathless. His voice comes out croaking and raw; he breathed in smoke back there. They both did. Him more than Eddie, after that last stairwell came down, cutting him off from the entrance for a few disorienting, gut-churning minutes before he stumbled out a side entrance and into Eddie and Bobby's arms. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, okay."
"Shut up," Eddie snaps, loosening his grip on Buck's arm. His eyes are red. His voice is hoarse, too. Buck remembers him screaming his name through the smoke-roiled darkness, an instant before the stairs came down. "Shut up."
"Okay, okay," Buck says, and lets his hands drop. Then lifts them again, thumping his palms against Eddie's shoulders and letting them linger there. Even through his turnouts, Buck can feel him shaking. "Eddie, hey. Come on. I'm okay. Barely even bruised."
"Just—" Eddie bites off the end of the word, shakes his head, then shoves at Buck's shoulders again, moving closer. And then his hands are on Buck's cheeks, dragging him down, and his mouth is hot, and—oh. Oh.
Eddie tastes like smoke; they both do. His cheeks are rough and grimy; there's a sharp sting where Buck must have split or bitten his lower lip. It's not a good kiss, not really, except for how it might actually be the best kiss he's ever had.
It lasts just barely long enough for Buck to start kissing back, and then Eddie is retreating. His hands are still on Buck's cheeks. Buck makes a noise of protest and chases his mouth, and Eddie kisses him again, softer. Then he pulls away again. Buck stares at him, and he stares back, and for a moment the entire world feels very distant.
Then there are footsteps on the pavement behind him and a deep, deep sigh, and reality percolates back in: specifically, the reality that they still are very much at an active scene.
Eddie winces slightly, lets go of Buck, takes a step back, and turns.
"Hey, Cap," he says, scrubbing a hand over the back of his neck.
"Hi," Bobby says patiently. Behind him, the 136 has their ladder up; he can see someone—probably Stover—controlling the hose to put out the last of the burn. Beyond that, Hen and Chim are checking over the last handful of security staff that Bobby and Eddie must have escorted out while Buck was trying not to die in a ceiling collapse. None of it seems especially dire anymore.
Other than the fact that Bobby is here, and definitely saw… all of that.
"Uh, hi, Bobby," Buck says, with what is probably not nearly as winning a smile as he's trying for.
"You know, Buck, I'm pretty sure I have the section in our handbook on maintaining professionalism on scenes still bookmarked from when you were a probie," Bobby says in tones of deep exasperation. His mouth is twitching, though.
"That's on me, Cap," Eddie says solemnly.
"Hey, no, I was definitely—"
Bobby gestures sharply, and Buck shuts up.
"You have two minutes," he says, "and then I expect you both to go get yourselves checked out. And we're going to talk about this back at the station. Understood?"
Eddie straightens his shoulders like he's still in Basic. He used to do that all the time; now it's only when he thinks he might be in serious trouble. "Understood."
"So, uh, so how much trouble are we actually in?" Buck blurts.
"I said we'll discuss it at the station, Buck," Bobby repeats dryly, but he's definitely laughing at them now. "One minute. Then go let Hen check you over, or you really will be in trouble. And kid? I'm very glad you're okay."
He pointedly turns his back and walks away, so Buck doesn't protest that that was more like fifteen seconds than a whole minute. He's got Eddie to focus on instead: his smoke-stained face, soft brown eyes, the sheepish, lovely mouth that Buck was just kissing.
"Sorry," Eddie says, after a moment. "I didn't actually plan to do that."
"Yeah, well. Been a long time coming, right?"
He worries, in the instant after he's said it, that he's got this all wrong. That this—whatever it is—was just adrenaline for Eddie, just relief, just some weird, fleeting impulse and nothing more.
But Eddie laughs, ducking his head, rubbing a hand over the back of his neck. When he looks back at Buck, his eyes are bright. He's blushing, visible even under the soot.
"Yeah," he says. "Yeah, it really has."

The therapist thing is only a stupid locker room joke because Buck has made it into one. When it comes up at the tail-end of an overnight shift—“…and we all know what happened last time Buck got therapy”—it’s easier to grin and shrug one shoulder, to blame it on a phase. (To put distance between Buck 1.0, and 2.0, and whatever version of himself he’s on now.) If he’s the punchline, he can laugh like it’s funny.
It’s just that Eddie’s not laughing.
Whether because Chimney’s jokes are never quite as good the second or fifth or tenth time—or because the 118 should all know a little bit less about each other (and a lot less about Buck’s sex life)—Eddie doesn’t crack a smile or a smartass comment. His locker shuts with a bit more force than necessary when Chim calls “ see ya Monday ” over his shoulder. Buck could maybe dismiss that entirely if not for the way Eddie’s jaw is set like it is when he goes for the punching bag in the gym, like it is in the back of the rig after a bad call. But they hadn’t lost anyone last night, and Eddie isn’t moving like he’s hurt, and Buck can’t get a good enough look at his face to tell the difference between sad and pissed off.

Okay, this is a very random framing meta that started as an "it's interesting that even though Oliver is a pretty big guy they pretty much never use Buck's size for intimidation" and it evolved to something buddie from there. It actually started because the one instance I could think of where they highlight Buck's size, that being the "what's your problem, man" conversation.
Tumblr media
Because here's the thing, Ryan is what? 2 inches shorter than Oliver? But they really made a point of making Buck look bigger in this scene because Buck is mad and he's trying to be intimidating, and it makes Eddie looks smaller even if he's not small by any definition. So I went to the other fight they had, the grocery store scene, they actually frame it so Eddie looks bigger even though he's not because Eddie is the one whos mad. And even though we can see Eddie when the focus is on Buck, we can't see Buck when the focus is on Eddie. It's all very Buck is seeing Eddie, Eddie is not seeing Buck.
Tumblr media
So I went looking for all the Big Conversations to look at the framing choices and I'm gonna type out thoughts I guess.
I separated this into categories, the first one being Conversations About Christopher. The thing with the talks about Chris is that they are always sitting down for them. They're on the same level.
Tumblr media
When Shannon comes back and Eddie is confused about what to do about it, the close-ups actually don't try to make it seem like either of them is bigger, but the wider angle puts Eddie in the center and Buck angled in a way where Buck looks smaller, obviously because even though Buck has a place on Eddie's life, his space on Christopher's isn't that established.
Tumblr media
Then we have the skateboard discussion. At this point, we know that Buck loves Christopher and that he is a established as part of Chris' life. And it's interesting that they are talking here where none of them is highlighted and Buck actually comes up with a solution for a parenting problem while Eddie is spiraling.
Tumblr media
Then we have everyone's favorite conversation about Christopher. Yes the discussion of the will is very layered but it is about Chris, and again, they are on the same level, none of them is highlighted and even the close-ups leave them about the same size and showing roughly the same amount of the other at all times. This is Eddie making it clear that he also understands Buck's space on Christopher's life.
Tumblr media
There's also when Eddie is struggling with the fact that Chris is scared and missing Shannon, again, they are always shown at the same level while Buck tries to help Eddie and we are always seeing both of them while working the problem.
Then we have the Buck Needs Reassurance talks. During this type of conversation, Eddie is always standing up and Buck is sitting down, making a point of having Buck look up at Eddie. Those scenes being when Maddie leaves and Chim punches Buck and the conversation after Buck's death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think it's interesting here too that they made a point of having Buck in comfortable clothes because he's in a vulnerable place and but he is comfortable enough in looking up at Eddie (literally and figuratively).
Then we have the Eddie Needs Reassurance talks. Those are very interesting because they usually start with them being at different levels, but equalizing once they start talking.
Tumblr media
The most intense example of this is the talk about the panic attacks, Buck approaches Eddie when he's laying down and Buck's standing up, but once the conversation actually becomes a conversation not just Eddie avoiding the topic, they are both sitting down and being shown as the same size as they work it out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Same with the aftermath of Eddie's breakdown, they start with Buck standing up but once they start talking, they are both sitting down and on the same level.
Then there are the Intense Conversations That Feel Somewhat Unresolved. (I'm not sure how to categorize this one, coincidentally they are talking about Buck almost dying in both)
It starts with Eddie dropping Christopher off at the loft before the tsunami.
Tumblr media
They're on the same level but they are not seeing eye to eye, Eddie is trying but Buck refuses to look at him. Something that's interesting about this one is that Buck is usually in very tight shirts and Eddie's are usually looser, but since we are supposed to think that Buck is wasting away, Eddie's shirt is very well fitted, even the seam on the shoulders are in the exact right spot but Buck's is on the looser side (seriously, most of Buck's shirt look like they will rip off his arm if he flexes a little, the fact that there's space in that sleeve is crazy lol). Something important here I think is the way they are on the same side of the screen during close-ups, so they never try to make it seem like they are looking at each other and the other one is not shown, and the wider angle they are facing different directions, so they really aren't on the same page here.
I think the grocery store scene kinda fits into this category, but it's a bigger blowout and there's more at stake since it's in a very public setting with an audience. But they are facing each other, they are just not on the same side of the conflict.
Tumblr media
And there's the cemetery scene, where even though they are talking and on the same level, they are NOT seeing eye to eye, and it's interesting because they pretty much never look at each other at the same time in this scene. They are having an important conversation, but there's tension and they are not agreeing on what's going on here. Even the close-ups make a point of cutting the other one from the frame.
Tumblr media
Something else I think it's interesting about this particular scene is that when they do show us them looking at each other when the focus is supposed to be on Eddie, they show us Buck's face, but when the focus is supposed to be on Buck, we don't see Eddie's.
Then we have Conflict Resolution Talks.
Tumblr media
In contrast with the talk they have before the tsunami, the talk they have after, they are finally looking at each other. And even though both of them are centered on both scenes, they are finally facing each other, so, they are finally getting on the same page.
Then we have them making up after the lawsuit.
Tumblr media
The framing of this scene fascinates me. There's a literal obstacle between them. They put something physical between them to show how much this conflict was in their way and they put them both on the edges of the frame. But the way the scene progresses is also interesting because we see a lot more of Buck when the focus is on Eddie than we see of Eddie when the focus is on Buck.
Tumblr media
They go as far as to make Eddie look smaller, making more of a show of the distance between them when the focus is on Eddie and it shows that Eddie sees Buck's side but Buck is not really seeing his. But that equalizes as they talk, Buck being the one that starts closing the distance between them, coming to be resolved when they both meet in the middle. In a quite literal representation of the way this gets resolved (It started because Buck didn't reach out leaving Eddie unsure of his space, Buck reaches out to close the gap, they meet in the middle because they're a team <3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And there's our favorite kitchen scene.
Tumblr media
Something interesting here is that we see Eddie when the focus is on Buck but we don't see Buck when the focus is on Eddie. Even in the wider angle, Eddie is closer to the edge of the frame and Buck is pretty centered. Buck is doing all the moving in this scene, Eddie leans into the sink when he starts drinking and Buck is the one closing the space between considering Eddie is still in the same spot he started when the scene ends. It kinda shows that while Eddie is willing to talk, Buck is gonna have to put in some work. Eddie is also in a headspace that might need some more reaching out and it shows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't really have a category for this scene, the point here is Buck giving Eddie hope. What I think it's interesting here is that even though they are facing different directions, they are always on the same side of the screen in the close-ups. Buck's in Eddie's space and Eddie is letting him and in the context of this scene is the first time in a while. Even the wider angle has them to the side. Buck is trying to step into the mess with Eddie, and Eddie is finally letting him. (Hoping we get a mirror of this scene in the future tbh)
This is all for now.

Sentences Sunday
I didn’t get round to FIF or Inspiration Saturday I’m letting myself have more than 7 sentences today. Thanks for all the tags this weekend my beloveds @monsterrae1 @disasterbuckdiaz @exhuastedpigeon @wikiangela @daffi-990 @heartshapedvows @giddyupbuck @hoodie-buck @thewolvesof1998 @hippolotamus @weewootruck this is me tagging ya back for 7SS
Please enjoy some jealous Eddie, a new arrival
“Buckley!”
Hearing his name Buck looks up from his book and grins at the newcomer. Eddie just looks up. He doesn’t recognise the woman Buck’s smiling so warmly at. He adds a slight frown to his expression without meaning to. Who is she? She’s wearing LAFD uniform so she must be a firefighter from a different station.
“Boots!!” Buck sounds pretty pleased to see her.
The frown deepens as Buck leaps up from his spot next to Eddie and practically skips over to the slight blonde. She flings her arms around his neck and Eddie’s eyebrow twitches as Buck picks her up in a bear hug, squeezing her tight as he spins them around.
Looking away and a quick swallow lessens the sudden bitter taste in his mouth a little.
The woman laughs and slaps Buck ineffectively on the back in protest, “put me down you idiot!”
Doing just as he told Buck opens his arms and as good as drops her with a chuckle. She swears as she falls but lands lightly. Once she’s back on the ground she punches his arm in mild retaliation.
“You are such a puppy Buckley!”
Buck grabs for her again but she jumps away, making him laugh.
Still scowling Eddie’s head swivels towards a new voice.
“Now what do we have here then?!”
Chim is approaching the blonde with a beaming smile, arms wide open ready for a hug. Eddie rolls his eyes at all the fuss, whoever she is she’s popular.
Chim has Hen in tow; another smile on another face he notes. So they all know her. How nice for everyone. Feeling rather unnnessary to the proceedings Eddie stands unsure of the direction his feet are going to take him.

9-1-1 head canons that I fully believe in:
Buck hasn’t been back to the pier since the tsunami and still has nightmares about it
Buck unironically calls Athena ‘mom’
Eddie drunk texts the entire 118 group chat about how much he loves Buck and vice versa
After the ladder incident, Bobby often calls to check on Buck, even at night because he can’t go to sleep if he doesn’t know that his adopted son is safe
May is in charge of the 118’s Instagram page and will post the most ridiculous things and pictures of the crew
Athena and Eddie are actually pretty close
After the well incident, Eddie can’t sleep unless the lights are on because he’s scared of being alone in the dark
Hen gives the softest and warmest hugs
Maddie and Eddie call each other once a week to catch up on the drama at dispatch
Eddie and Buck have been secretly dating since 4 x 14
Harry and Denny have constant sleepovers, driving their mothers up the walls with all of their crazy ideas
Bobby changed the flooring on his and Athena’s patio after Buck’s collapse because all he could think about when he was out there, was Buck nearly dying (again)
Everyone loves Buck’s random facts even tho they never know what to expect
Chim apologized to Buck for punching him in the face (like hello why was that never a thing??)

This idea came from @Caitpatmosh from TikTok

*Buck unknowingly showed the ring he was wearing on his hand*

*Chimney excited mode*: Oh my god Oh my god it finally happened . DID IT FINALLY HAPPEN
Buck: Did what happen?
Chi: Yes Maddie and Hen owes me 50 bucks. GUYS GET IN HERE
Bobby : What’s wrong?
Maddie: What happened Chim?
Hen: What is going on over here?
*Chimney points to Buck’s hand*: Look. At. His. Hand.
*Everone sees the ring and gasp*
Maddie: Shut. Up
Bobby: Oh Buck
Hen *Frustrated that she lost the bet*: Oh for Goodness sakes
Maddie: Damn it Ev. You couldn’t have waited another year.
Maddie: I mean I’m happy for you but now I owe Chim 50 bucks
Buck *realizes what they think happened*: Oh this. This is not—
Chimney: Okay so obviously I’m the wedding planner
Hen: God help us all
Chimney: Hey keep sassing and you’re going to be flower girl
Bobby: Buck you have always been like another son to me
Buck: Guys this is sweet but there’s a misunderstanding
*Eddie comes over*
Eddie: What is all the commotion over here
Hen: Dude run

Eddie: Ordained
Karen: Are you and Maddie finally getting married

Buck: Oh my god I’m going to cry
Eddie: I think we’re getting carried away here
Chimney: Next Eddie you gotta pick your best man
Hen: This is ridiculous
Eddie: Yeah none of you are gonna be my best man
Hen: You wouldn’t pick me as your best (wo)man
Eddie: Ay Dios Mío

Eddie: Noo!
Chimney: Sure you can be the ring bearer
Hen: That is way too much responsibility for her
Chimney: Oh yeah your right. You can be the usher
Maddie: That still may be too much
Buck: You guys this is so sweet but there’s not going to be a wedding
Chimney: Evan "Buck" Buckley. I will die from a rod to the head before you get married in a courthouse
Maddie: And I’ll be damned if I’m not the best woman
Bobby: I will walk you down any aisle Buck
Eddie: We are not engaged
*Everyone shocked pikachu face*
Chimney: What?
Buck: Yeah
Karen: I’m confused
Chimney: Where’d you get that huge ass ring
Buck: It’s from one of Jee’s bath bomb that has Jewelry in it.
Buck: *shows the ring* It’s pretty right
*Everyone glares at Eddie*
Bobby: So you didn’t propose
Eddie: Nooo
Chimney: Well when the hell are you proposing man
Eddie: W-Uh I mean uh
Eddie: What’s that Chris you need me I’ll be right there
*Hen who knew all along*: Jesus Christ

Ok so— HEAR ME OUT FOR THIS ONE.
Whatever the heck happens to Chim, they end up needing support and it’s TOMMY that somehow saves him and gets him to their wedding (that probably likely ends up in the backyard next to the hot tub or something cause that’s just how Madney shenanigans work). Buck is so relieved and grateful and overcome with emotion that he kisses Tommy on the mouth! With his mouth! In front of everyone! PDA!
(Optional: + and that’s when Eddie is walloped by a crashing uh-oh wave of feelings realisation 😬)
okay i took your optional moment and added a twist I HOPE YOU LIKE IT DARLIN // send me a prompt here
Eddie feels sick - and it has nothing to do with the excessive alcohol he consumed the night before.
The helicopter starts to land in front of the house, their small group of friends and family grinning at the fact that Chim is waving at them from the window, looking just as worn and strung out as Buck and Eddie.
Buck.
Fucking Buck.
He's looking at Tommy land the helicopter with such awe in his eyes. When he lands it, everyone claps, which irritates him further for some reason even though he follows along with it. The helicopter powers down and Chimney jumps out, he and Maddie running into each other's arms. Tommy is smiling at them, this grand, open smile that makes Buck zero in on him.
Eddie watches Buck make way for him.
He jogs forward and Eddie watches as Buck grabs Tommy's face between his hands and pulls him in for a kiss - right there, in front of everyone.
Eddie can't even bother to look at who is shocked, who is surprised - he can't be bothered to see what Buck's parents do or say. He's just staring at them kiss, at Tommy wrapping his arms around Buck, at Buck kissing Tommy over and over again. They're smiling into the kiss, Buck's hand moving to the back of Tommy's head, fingers curling in the strands.
Eddie wants to throw up.
He looks away, he can't watch that - he's not homophobic, obviously, of course not. Hen is one of his closest friends. But...he can't watch Buck do that with someone. He can't.
You never had a problem when he was kissing girls.
But that was before...
"Eddie?" Maddie asks softly, as Chimney runs into the house to presumably wash up. Her hand is gentle as it grabs his shoulder. He meets her gaze - and she is looking so kindly at him that it makes him feel worse.
"Hey," he puts on a smile, but he can feel how fake it is. "Need anything? I can go help Chimney."
"No, it's okay." she squeezes his shoulder, looking over at her brother for a moment - their foreheads are together now, noses brushing, smiling and giggling. Eddie wants to punch a hole through a wall. Again. "It's okay, Eddie."
"What is?" he rips his eyes away from them, and focuses back on her.
She smiles knowingly at him. "Just because he's over there right now, it doesn't mean you won't get what you want, in the end."
Eddie's eyes widen. "Maddie...I..." but he has no good answer. No good answer to that, no good answer to the reason why he feels nauseous over the fact that Buck is kissing a man.
Maddie simply pats his cheek tenderly. "He's so easy to love." she whispers, before moving forward to kiss his cheek. This is a lot for him, too much, he and Maddie have never had a conversation this openly with one another about anything. "Just be patient." she whispers, before making her way into the house after her husband.
As Buck and Tommy part, they walk through the small crowd as everyone starts to make their way inside, Eddie simply standing there.
"Hey," Buck says as they walk up to him, hand in hand. "Ready to go inside?" he claps a hand on Eddie's shoulder.
Eddie looks at him, how beautiful he is. He doesn't even spare Tommy a glance.
"Of course," Eddie replies. "I'm just waiting for you, Buck."
Buck smiles brightly at him, and Eddie? Eddie will move mountains for that smile.
Eddie can be patient.

you're the cream in my coffee
Evan Buckley/Eddie Diaz Explicit 8.6k
Buck loves making good coffee. He honestly to god really loves making a cup of coffee so good that you want to just sit and enjoy it. He loves being a barista and he really loves owning his own coffee shop.
What Buck doesn’t love that some people don’t think being a barista is a “real job”, mostly because people who say that shit are just classist fucks who think sitting at a computer all day for work somehow makes them better than people who work service industry jobs, but whatever. He tries to not let those kinds of dickheads ruin his day - most of the time it works. He never bothers telling them that he owns the coffee shop, he’d rather they give him the attitude than his team.
Plus, for every shithead in a suit that comes into FireHouse Cafe there are at least five amazing people who smile when they order or actually look up from their phones to chat. He loves his regulars, loves getting to know people. He’s a firm believer that you can tell a lot about a person by their coffee order and his favorite regulars all match their drinks.
There’s Bobby - he’s a fire captain who comes in before his shifts for a drip coffee with so much cream his drink is closer to white than black and just a little sugar. Buck knew he was a midwesterner long before Bobby told him he was from Minnesota. He also knew that Bobby was kind even though he’d clearly lost a lot in his life.
And there’s Bobby’s wife, Athena - she’s a police sergeant with a love of iced mochas with an extra shot of espresso, but Buck was sworn to secrecy on that one. Like her mochas, Athena is bold and packs a punch, but can be extremely sweet and cares about her people.
Then there’s Hen, a doctor who comes in at least once a week for a tahini latte and a story about something crazy at the ER. Hen marches to the beat of her own drummer - she was a paramedic before going to med school and she never fails to put a smile on Buck’s face. Every so often she’ll come in with her wife, Karen. Karen’s an iced Americano lady and an actually fucking rocket scientist.
Occasionally, there’s Chimney. Buck wasn’t actually sure what Chim did, but at least once a month he came in, ordered 6 shots of espresso and worked on his laptop from opening until closing. Buck kind of thought he might be a hacker, but he has no actual idea.
Then there’s Buck’s favorite customer, not that he’d admit that. Actually, Eddie Diaz was maybe Buck’s favorite person. He owns a tattoo parlor that’s in the same building as the coffee shop and for the last three years had been slowly driving Buck insane with how fucking hot and competent he is.
Not just competent with tattooing, which of course he is, he owns a tattoo parlor. He’s also a veteran and has, on more than one occasion, helped with first aid in the coffee shop. One time he helped a  customer who had managed to slice her hand open with a butter knife while they waited for the paramedics. Apparently, he had saved the woman’s life, not that Eddie would accept any praise about it.
Eddie also has the world's greatest kid. A kid that Eddie trusts with Buck. A kid that has spent more than a few afternoons doing homework at the coffee shop while Buck plies him with hot chocolate and baked goods.
Chris always loves hearing all of Buck’s random facts and then telling Eddie about them when he comes to pick Chris up. Today, Buck had spent his three hours with Chris in the shop chatting with him about different kinds of coffee beans between customers.
“Dad, did you know there’s a coffee that’s made of poop !”
“It’s not actually made of poop, bud,” Buck grinned, handing Eddie Chris’s backpack. “It’s partially digested cherries. The cherries actually ferment as they’re being passed through the civet’s intestines. They disinfect them and everything before they’re consumed.”
“Yeah! That! It’s called copy loo-wake”
“Kopi luwak.”
“Uh huh!”
“I take it you had fun with your Buck today, huh?”
“Bucks the best dad!”

There’s something calling to him, over the smoke and flames, the people and pavement—a hint of the most delectable smell Eddie’s ever had the pleasure of inhaling.
He rises to his feet, faintly aware of Hen calling to him, but it’s a distant concern. Inconsequential.
He follows his nose, stumbling a little over the uneven sections of pavement as he goes, and he’s there’s some primal, instinctive part of him that’s utterly surprised to find Buck at the other end of that mouthwatering scent.
Buck. Of course it’s Buck.
As if feeling Eddie’s eyes on him, Buck glances up from where he’s talking quietly with Bobby, helmet tucked under one arm. His expression brightens, a smile stretching across that gorgeous face.
“Eds!” he says, lifting a hand like he needs to catch Eddie’s attention. Like every molecule of his being isn’t singularly focused on that which is Evan Buckley. “Looks like we’re good to— Whoa!”
Buck smells so fucking good, Eddie notes with a happy sigh, craning to tuck his nose into the space behind Buck’s ear. It’s fucking unfair, is what it is, that he’s been keeping it to himself all this time, hoarding it away when he should know better.
Should know that it’s Eddie’s.
He shifts closer, lifting up on his tiptoes so he can press his mouth to Buck’s jaw, can drag his lips down his neck and shove his face against the hollow of his throat.
Buck makes a noise—low and rough and ragged—and a muscular arm wraps around his waist.
“Eddie,” he says, and god his voice. “What—?”
He wants to shove himself into Buck’s turnout coat right alongside him and live there for the next forever, wants to wear that toasted-cinnamon-sunshine scent like a second skin.
Wants to lap up the taste of it off of Buck’s throat.
“Chim!” Buck yells. “Chim, something’s wrong with Eddie!”
…..
And Eddie knows he’s a possessive, jealous son of a bitch even when he’s not high on inducers, so it’s no surprise to any of them that his hackles are up immediately, his fists tightening around the lapels of Buck’s coat.
But it’s Buck—Buck who’s one of the kindest, gentlest Alphas Eddie’s ever met, Buck, who he’s never seen so much as flash his eyes at anyone, let alone pop a claw or drop his fangs—that bares his teeth snarls, rumbling and furious, cradling Eddie tight to his chest.
And it’s so impossibly hot that Eddie can feel himself getting slick in his pants.
“Buck,” Bobby says firmly. “Keep your head, kid. You don’t want to do anything either of you will regret.”
The next sound that Buck makes is high and wounded. His hands spasm against Eddie’s back, and then he’s taking two huge steps away, his heat—his presence—leaving all at once. Eddie whimpers at the loss.
“Shit, fuck, sorry,” Buck stammers. His entire face is flushed pink, the color creeping down his neck and disappearing under his collar. “You gotta get him outta here, Bobby, you gotta— I can’t—“
Eddie shakes off Hen’s hand and surges forward, plastering himself back against Buck’s front.
“No,” Eddie pleads, and Buck makes another one of those soft, throaty noises, like the air’s been punched out of him. “No, Buck, don’t leave, don’t—“
“Eds,” Buck says. “It’s— Bobby’s right, you’re not in control right now and—“ He lets out a loud exhale; Eddie feels his breath whisper over his hair. “—and I don’t want to hurt you.”
“You wouldn’t,” Eddie insists. “You’d never.”
“Never,” Buck agrees. “Which is why you gotta let me go, let Chim and Hen help you.”
“I don’t want them,” Eddie says. “I want you.”
Buck’s smile is more of a grimace, something horribly sad glinting behind his eyes. “No, you don’t.”
“Eddie,” Hen tries, carefully shuffling forward. “You’re medically compromised, you’re not thinking straight—“
“The only way Buck could hurt me right now is by leaving,” Eddie insists.
He doesn’t understand why none of them are listening. Eddie needs Buck: it’s the simplest fact there is.
“Don’t go,” Eddie continues, nuzzling at Buck’s neck, then leaning in to press a fluttering kiss to his pulse point. “Buck, please—“
Buck groans, a deep, guttural noise, and his hands land ever so gently on either side of Eddie’s rib cage.
“Eddie,” he says, voice tight. “You don’t know what you’re asking me.”
“I’m asking you to come home with me,” Eddie says. “I’m asking you to have my back.”
“Eds—“
“Buck,” Eddie says. “Evan. Come home.”
Buck’s eyes search his face and Eddie knows he’s looking for any hint of doubt or uncertainty. Eddie meets his gaze squarely, begging him to understand, to see.
“Are you even capable of consenting to anything right now?” Buck asks, to Eddie and to the world at large.
“Well, technically,” Chim starts.
“I’m still in my right mind,” Eddie says, and it’s true but he’s not sure if it will be for much longer. He’s hot all over, desire blistering up his spine, over his thighs, searing his skin, but for all that it's suddenly become as imperative as breathing, wanting Buck is nothing new.
If anything it’s become clearer, the feeling distilled down into its purest essence. He wants Buck now because he always wants Buck.
“I’m still me.”
Buck chews on his lip, resolve weakening.
“Please,” Eddie breathes.
