Cosmic Travelogue: Las Vegas
Incoming transmission…
“...ello? Hello hello? TELETRAAN 1, are you receiving?... OH! Wonderful! This is Cosmos, reporting in from Las Vegas, Nevada! I had to make an emergency landing in the desert after an ambush from the Seekers. Thankfully a fellow traveler salvaged me from my crash site, allowing me to tag along on their adventures across the city. Our first major stop? The Valley of Fire State Park!”
“It was amazing how quickly the bustling city gave way to arid desert and jagged cliffs. As our vehicle crawled further into the canyon it felt like we were about to be swallowed by the mountains. The park offered many rolling plains…”
“Yawning canyons…”
“And local wildlife! This kind creature even left me a parting gift!”
“Our next location was an important hub of human power generation (maybe Wheeljack could take a few notes?) The Hoover Dam, built in 1931. Can you believe the humans built that giant thing? Though my travel companion wouldn't stop making jokes about 'degenerates like you belonging on a cross...' Perhaps I need to do some research when I return to base.”
“We weren’t done with national conservation yet, as our next trip took us to the stunning Red Rock Canyon Driving Tour! Just look at those beautiful (and aptly named!) mountains.~”
“There were plenty of other fascinating places we visited as well. For example, this repository of organic ocean life…”
“A museum of dated human entertainment…”
“And, uh, this thing! And that thing!”
“Not to mention the food! I didn’t really partake, but they certainly seemed to enjoy it.”
“My kindly rescuers even went to far as to offer me a ride back to their home! One I graciously accepted as my main thrusters are still malfunctioning… But I will return to base soon with a full report of my travels! Cosmos, over and out!”

What kind of vacations do Buck and Eddie like to go on? Do they prefer the beach, mountains, or places where it snows? Also one more in terms of older established Buddie. Do they retire in LA or do they live and travel in a RV?
I think they do a lot of road trips!!!! Buck always drives. as a Californian I am biased but there are SO many beautiful and fun places to visit in California so yeah i think they do a bunch of road trips, including camping trips to Big Sur and Yosemite and Joshua Tree, go river rafting in the American River, a trip up to San Francisco (they let Chris hang out and get room service by himself in the hotel for one night to go to some gay bars), San Diego to go to the zoo, and they definitely find a great adaptive snowboarding place in Big Bear or Mammoth or Tahoe for Chris to try out (Eddie also has never skiied in his LIFE so he and Chris are just going down the bunny hill together while Buck cheers them on). They probably do venture out of California to do some of the national parks in Utah/the Grand Canyon/etc and they absolutely do at least one trip to Vegas just the two of them (Buck does NOT win it big at poker but Eddie loves him anyway).
I also picture them doing a big road trip up the coast of California for their honeymoon but again I'm biased because that's what my parents did for their honeymoon 🥰 They stay at the Madonna Inn and crack up at the over-the-top kitschiness, and they stay at a cute little B&B in Carmel-by-the-Sea.
And they definitely do many trips out to Texas to see the Diaz family, like at least twice a year.
For retired Buddie, I think they retire in LA but they travel pretty frequently and finally hit some of the international trips on their bucket lists (Buck for sure takes Eddie to Peru and shows him all the places he used to hang out when he lived there).

Democratic Mayor Tiffany Henyard of the small Village of Dolton, Illinois, has made national headlines in recent weeks for being accused of weaponizing police in retaliatory business raids and spending taxpayer money on luxurious trips. Now she is facing investigation by the Dolton Trustees as well as the FBI.
In a special meeting Thursday night, a four-trustee majority "voted unanimously to call for an investigation into Henyard and what they say is the misuse of funds," FOX 32 reported. Dolton Trustees slammed the mayor for having "disgraced this entire village" and being a "stain on our community."
Earlier this week it was reported that the FBI is investigating the mayor, as six individuals have reportedly spoken to the agency about her alleged misconduct, including "business owners, a former village employee and one or more public officials."
The self-proclaimed "Super Mayor," who insists "God chose me" and met with President Biden in January, has been said to engage in such wild antics it is like a "real life Parks and Rec situation." But her multitudes of alleged misdeeds could finally be catching up to her.
From first-class flights to Las Vegas to beauty vendors, Henyard is frequently called out by her colleagues for questionable spending of taxpayers' money, possibly for her own benefit. She makes $285,000 from her positions both as Dolton mayor and Thornton township supervisor.
READ ON THE FOX NEWS APP
Henyard reportedly has a $224,000 a year salary as township supervisor alone, but has put forth an ordinance to cut the salary of any non-incumbent supervisor to $25,000.
Municipal attorney Burt Odelson, said to represent Henyard's political opposition, condemned this as "so illegal in so many ways," telling FOX 32 such conduct "violates so many tenets of the law."
Aside from her personal income, the way she allegedly uses the town’s money has been a consistent source of controversy. While Henyard has denied using village credit cards, WGN Investigates said it obtained copies of the township’s credit card statements indicating village officials spent more than $24,000 at restaurants during a 12-month span, as well as $3,741 just on Henyard taking a round trip flight to Las Vegas.
Henyard is also well-known for using a makeup artist, hairdresser and stylist before public appearances and photoshoots. Residents complain she puts up town billboards to promote herself personally, and she has produced music videos that feature city workers, such as police dancing or boosting her image by being in the background as she lip-syncs songs.
On Tuesday, a Dolton-based U-Haul rental and trucking business owner named Lawrence Gardner told FOX 32 he went to the FBI out of frustration that the Village of Dolton would not renew his business license. He claims he has suffered from harassment, a raid on his business and was shut down by Dolton police. Gardner believes it is retaliation after he refused to donate to a civic event sponsored by Henyard.
FOX 32 reported Wednesday that multiple bars in the town were raided by police the day after the news team visited the businesses amid allegations their licenses were being held up for political reasons. The raids reportedly occurred mere hours after FOX 32’s report about the alleged FBI investigation into Henyard’s conduct was released.
Employees and owners of the bars reportedly claimed "it's part of an ongoing campaign of harassment by Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard" and that "Their business licenses have been stripped by Dolton, but they've continued to operate with a state license."
Tammie Brown, a Dolton Trustee, was quoted in the same report as saying the raids were a warning to other businesses, "I'm sure that they were asked to donate [to Henyard], make a donation, and most likely they didn't make a donation. So you don't get a chance to stay open if you don't pay the queen's ransom."
The Village of Dolton defended the legitimacy of the raids in a statement to FOX 32, arguing both businesses had their liquor licenses previously revoked, and had "a history of violent incidents."
In addition to the raids and music videos, Henyard's use of the police as her personal security has been a source of controversy as well.
Henyard spends hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on security, which effectively takes police officers off the streets who should be protecting the town, Dolton Trustee Brittney Norwood said.
"I think that she spends the money on security because she just loves it. She likes the thought of being surrounded by police officers. I think it makes her feel more important," Norwood said. "The police are simply working under her instructions, but it's also sad. It's sad because we need the police patrolling the streets, and they're with her instead."
Former Dolton Police Chief Robert Collins, who was fired by Henyard, also slammed the mayor for maintaining a security detail of "several officers" whom he argues could be out fighting crime, but are instead "sent out to run errands, do pick-ups, do drop-offs."
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is reportedly cracking down on "The Tiffany Henyard CARES Foundation" which, per the acronym, stands for Cancer And Remission Empowering Survivors.
The Chicago Tribune on Thursday reported that Henyard’s charity "has been told by the Illinois attorney general’s office to stop soliciting or accepting contributions, and that it must register with the state." The same outlet summarized that the mayor was told her charity "is not in good standing and states the attorney general has sent multiple letters advising, among other things, that it is not registered with the state."
The letter reportedly warned that "to avoid further action by this office," the charity must file a registration statement, copies of financial reports and a list of the organization’s officers and/or directors by March 13.
Henyard is also infamous for her fiery rhetoric toward the town's trustees in public meetings.
Fox News Digital reported that Henyard slammed her fellow officials at a meeting in early February about her spending when she declared, "You all forget I’m the leader. They want to hear from the mayor. You all ain’t learned that yet. The mayor, not the trustees that don’t do nothing. They only run their mouth. You all don’t do no work, no work!"
Later during the meeting, Henyard proclaimed, "Y’all got false narratives out there, and y’all should be ashamed of y’all selves. Y’all Black. Y’all are Black! And y’all sitting up here beating and attacking on a Black woman that’s in power. Y’all should be ashamed of y’all selves."
Norwood told Fox News Digital in an interview, "I feel as if I'm in a dictatorship."
She added, "The way she talks [to the trustees] I sometimes feel as if I'm in a mentally abusive relationship… I've learned to expect her to be disrespectful. She's like a bully."
Norwood is party to a lawsuit that accused the mayor of actions that amounted to "fraud," according to a complaint reviewed by Fox News Digital.
Henyard was sued for alleged financial wrongdoing by Dolton Trustees on Dec. 23.
"The Defendant’s actions as alleged constitute a fraud upon the residents and taxpayers of the Village," the lawsuit states. It added, the extent of the financial wrongdoing could be more extensive than is currently alleged as Henyard was allegedly concealing the information from the trustees.
Henyard, the Village of Dolton, and police department did not respond to requests for comment.

top 5 places in argentina? like, places you'd recommend to foreigners visiting your country? especially if they're not particularly famous
(hope that's not too intrusive for you, it's alright if you're not comfortable answering!)
what a great question, thank you! (it probably will end up being popular places, but let's be honest, they're popular for a reason and i want everyone to know about them!)
bariloche - i think the south of argentina is possibly the most beautiful spot on earth, and i absolutely adore bariloche. yes, there are other towns that are probably prettier (san martín de los andes, villa la angostura, all worthy of a visit), but i've been lucky enough to go to bariloche many times thanks to a friend with family there, so it's very special to me. some of the most spectacular vistas everywhere, lots of trekking to do, sailing excursions, and even action adventures las rafting and the like, it's such a perfect place for me (bonus for my most favorite place there, the tea house bellevue, obligatory stop there!). i've only really visited during summer (except for that one time with the school graduation trip, of course), but i'd love to see it in winter, it must be gorgeous!
(here are some pics of mine, this last one is the view from bellevue, it's so dreamy!)
glaciar perito moreno - ok, while we're still in patagonia, i might as well mention the perito moreno glacier, cause it's honestly jawdropping. to be there, in silence, looking at that massive wall of ice, it's humbling and awe-inspiring, i don't know how else to put it. and if you're lucky enough to see the ice breaking and falling, i can't imagine how that would feel like. of course, global warming is definitely troubling when it comes to natural wonders like this, but man, it's simply incredible. i've heard there are excursions to walk on the ice as well, that's a bit scary to me, but it must be one hell of an experience.
valle de la luna and talampaya - two national parks (the first one literally called "valley of the moon", but its real name is national park ischigualasto) they are...something else. the valle de la luna is possibly the most otherwordly place i've ever seen. it's this vastness of rock carved by the wind, the sun, the water for millions of years, truly looking like an alien landscape. you can literally see the evolution of the earth in its geological formations, and it's also really important for paleontological research. talampaya is right next door and it's breathtaking as well, reddish and strange and wonderful (first pics are the valley of the moon, the other two talampaya).
cataratas del iguazú - probably the most famous one (natural wonder of the world!) but like, for a goddamned reason! absolutely insane experience that i'd love to relive someday because i was very young when i went there. but yeah, standing there and seeing the intense, beautiful, dangerous force of nature that is those immense waterfalls, it's crazy. i mean, one of the sections of the waterfall is called garganta del diablo, devil's throat, so yeah, this shit is POWERFUL. i'd loveee to do one of those crazy boat trips that get close to the waterfalls, that seems insane lmao. also i think they did night trips to the garganta del diablo? that must be a religious experience!
ciudad de buenos aires - i mean of courseeee i'm gonna say buenos airessss that is my PLACE. and sure, you know how a lot of the times natives end up knowing a lot less about their city than the tourists that come visit? yeah, i'm probably not the best guide, but i could show you the places that TRULY matter, like the botanical gardes that i love to chill in, and the street i love to walk on especially when the jacarandá trees are in bloom, or the cemetery that we all love, or that vegan place with kinda mid food but a really cool, funky atmosphere, or that escape room i've been meaning to go to. what i'm trying to say is that buenos aires is my place in the world, and i could never, ever leave here. i carry it in my bones and in my blood (and for the argentines reading this, Y SI, puta...y porteña <3). no professional, touristy pics here, just some random shit from my camera roll.

The Space Between the Stars Chapter 14
"Double Rainbow"
This art of Elisabet and Sakura was done by my very talented friend @1004knightingale as it heavily features them.
Chapter 14- Double Rainbow
After the Goodwill Shop, where Elisabet and Sakura had picked out wedding outfits they vowed not to show one another until the actual ceremony, they had promised the nice people there that they would first of all go visit something here in Tonopah called the Clown Motel. The looks on their faces were telling, so of course Lis and Sakura had been skeptical.
However, Sakura had closed her eyes after five seconds of parking in front of that monstrosity of an establishment, and she screamed bloody murder.
“I guarantee you some serious weirdos stay there, if you shined a blacklight on those sheets you’d see them from space! Let’s get out of here!”
They had decided to skip the other haunted hotel in town in favor of passing by the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Project. It’s a tower, surrounded by rows upon rows upon rows of solar panels forming circles around it. Impressive, especially for two scientists.
“It’s almost…eerie,” said Sakura, “what I wouldn’t give to be working on a project that big and amazing.”
Lis had slid her hand across the seat, squeezing Sakura’s. “You will be, I know it.”
Lis then had swallowed, hesitating.
“I don’t know, I have been here before and feel some sort of connection to it... I can’t explain it. It’s happened all my life. Every summer my parents and I would go visit national parks and historic places across the western United States. When I was fifteen, we visited Colorado Springs and climbed Cheyenne Mountain and Pikes Peak and it was the worst it’s ever been, I had chills down my spine, the hairs all over my body stood on end almost the entire time. I couldn’t tell anyone about it. And I feel it here, too, but not quite as strong.”
Sakura had looked genuinely concerned.
“What do you mean, like déjà vu?”
“Kind of, but like, there’s more. Like whatever is going to happen in these places hasn’t happened yet, and I feel…displaced.”
She'd then looked at Sakura.
“You think I’m nuts, don’t you?”
“Of course I do. But I wouldn’t be nearly as crazy about you if you weren’t.”
She’d then leaned over and kissed her.
“Let’s get to Vegas, so that I can marry your crazy ass.”
They’d driven off, and now, several hours, and one dead air conditioner later, they arrive in Vegas, coasting into a very sparsely populated underground parking garage that serves several nearby hotels on the strip.
Yet Sakura is not herself.
Lis knows of course that part of the reason is that she’s exhausted, hungry, thirsty, and all sweaty from being in the truck in the one-hundred degree desert heat.
But this sullen look on her face is unusual.
They both unload their things from the bed of the truck, including the outfits they’d bought for their wedding (that they are hiding from one another until the ceremony), and they begin carrying all of it through the relatively cool underground parking facility to the elevator that would take them up to their hotel, The Tempo, apparently once called the Golden Pagoda. The ride in had indeed been very hot and miserable, so once they’d finally seen the Las Vegas skyline including the new dome, they had been very relieved.
Sakura had been very quiet for the last couple of hours, but she’s silent, now, looking quite bedraggled, every bit as much as Lis feels. Fortunately the temperature down here below ground is quite cool, helping to regulate them at least a little. Sakura throws her bags on her back and walks off silently, avoiding eye contact.
Lis walks faster to catch up with her.
“Hey, Sakuchan…hold on.” Lis drops her bags as Sakura scans the poorly-lit area for the elevator up to their hotel.
“I’m sorry Lis…I just…ugh. I know part of it is that I’m tired and hungry, but…”
“Are you…having second tho—”
Sakura looks up at her immediately.
“Absolutely not! No, no way. I’m just…angry. I’m angry that my father has to be an absolute monster, so much that I’m afraid to go anywhere, for fear that he’ll take me away. He’s always at the corner of my vision. I’m afraid. I’m scared, I…I can’t lose you.”
Lis comes close to her, face sweaty, both of them with hair in a mess from having the windows open due to the dead A/C. She speaks to her in a low, comforting voice.
“That’s not going to happen—because even if it did, there’s not a wall, barrier, or dimensional membrane that I wouldn’t claw my way through to get you back. I will always find you, and I won’t let you go, okay?”
Sakura nearly collapses, encircling Lis in her arms, tears clouding her vision, and they stand there with their luggage, the two of them, outside their rickety old pickup truck in this dark, underground parking garage somewhere beneath Las Vegas.
Lis pulls back, cupping Sakura’s face in her hands, stroking her cheeks with her thumbs, then whispers. “I love you more than anything. Now let’s go upstairs so that I can make you my wife. Please.”
Sakura barely lets her finish, regardless of how sweaty they are. She kisses her. These are not their normal, gentle, passionate kisses. These are kisses of need. Of intense gratitude that she can only express in this way. Whispering, dry kisses evolve into deeper ones, and suddenly Sakura has backed Lis up against the truck, which is still warm to the touch with the engine making creaking noises as it cools.
These moments seem lost to time, Lis unsure of whether they’re moving too slow or too fast, as she drops the last bag she’d been carrying and she kisses her back as though her life is tethered to her, because it is, and so is every fine thread tied to her very soul as she’s reveling in the feel of her mouth, and the grasp of her fingers tangled in Lis’s hair. She knows that despite the fact that the heat from the truck is becoming a bit uncomfortable against her back, and they’re both already covered in sweat from the Nevada heat, Sakura needs this to re-center herself. To anchor herself to the reality that Lis is here, and they are really doing this. As though Lis’s skin cells are bumping up against her own, screaming at her with each brush and touch.
Sakura takes her right hand and searches frantically for Lis’s left, which is wrapped around Sakura’s back, and when she finds it she caresses it with her fingers, touching her own ring on Lis’s third finger, pulling away and looking down at it.
Lis places her other hand on Sakura’s chin, tilting it back up, looking in her eyes, and kissing the tears that had dripped down her cheeks.
Sakura gives her a small smile, and she nods.

Im not sure if you're a hiking person, but How is hiking/nature in Catalonia? I've been learning the language for the past few months and i am interested in visiting and I really love being out in nature and hiking
Hi! First of all, sorry for the delay in answering, I've been very busy this week and I've left the blog on queue, I'm catching up today.
There's lots of cool places to hike!
Historically, hiking has been very important for keeping alive the culture and language, ever since the 19th century (as a way to getting to know the country and its history, since the population had been denied its own history) and especially until the Franco dictatorship (we have mentioned before how people used going hiking as a way to get away from the police and being able to speak Catalan during the times of illegalization).
There are many hiking associations in Catalonia, you can find them with names like "centre excursionista" or "grup excursionista". I don't know how long you're staying, but if you were to stay for a relatively long time I'm sure you could probably find some hiking association near wherever you stay.
Otherwise, you might also be interested in Wikiloc. It's a website (created by a Catalan) where everyone can upload the routes they like. It's very popular and there's lots of hikes in all areas, and it shows you the route and all the information and what you can see in the way.
There's many places to hike in all around the country. There are many natural parks, with 16 being recognised above the other in (Southern) Catalonia + 1 in Northern Catalonia.
From North to South, by type of landscape:
IN THE PYRENEE MOUNTAINS:
1. Regional Natural Park of the Catalan Pyrenees (Northern Catalonia).
Includes the Canigó mountain, legendary and symbolic mountain for Catalans. If you go there for Sant Joan festivity (June 23rd), you can join the hike to go get the fire on top of the mountain (we explained it in this post).
There's many hikes in the websites Tourisme Canigou and Sud Canigó.
2. Parc Nacional d'Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici
This is another beautiful park in the Pyrenees and the Sant Maurici lake. It's the only natural park in Catalonia that is considered a National Park in the Spanish system.
3. Parc Natural de l'Alt Pirineu (High Pyrenees Natural Park)
Beautiful mountains and, just like for all the other parks in the Pyrenees, near valleys with beautiful villages of Medieval origin with a heritage of Romanesque churches (the ones in Vall de Boí are recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
4. Parc Natural de les Capçaleres del Ter i del Freser
Where the Ter and Freser rivers are born. It includes the Núria Valley (Vall de Núria).
5. Parc Natural del Cadí-Moixeró
Includes the iconic Pedraforca mountain.
ASLEEP VOLCANOES:
6. Parc Natural de la Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa (Natural Park of the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone)
Includes the Fageda d'en Jordà (Jordà birch tree forest) and cool Medieval towns like Santa Pau, Besalú, Castellfollit de la Roca, els Hostalets d'en Bas, and more.
COASTAL PARKS:
7. Parc Natural del Cap de Creus (Creus Cape Natural Park)
Beautiful coastal area in the Costa Brava, also includes the Medieval monastery Sant Pere de Rodes. In the area there's lots of typically Mediterranean-style towns with white walls, some of them very touristic and some of them less so.
8. Parc Natural del Montgrí, les Illes Medes i el Baix Ter
In the coast of the Costa Brava, it's very beautiful. Also near lots of cute towns of Medieval origin.
9. Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de l'Empordà (the Empordà Wetlands Natural Park)
And on the opposite end of Catalonia:
10. Parc Natural del Delta de l'Ebre (Ebro Delta Natural Park)
Where the Ebro river reaches the Mediterranean sea. Famous for its rice fields and birdwatching. It's very flat, so it's a good idea to hire a bike and bike through the paths among the rice fields to the sea.
OTHER MOUNTAINS:
11. Parc Natural del Montseny
12. Parc Natural de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac
13. Parc Natural de la Muntanya de Montserrat
Montserrat is one of the most famous and sacred mountains in Catalonia. It has a very characteristic shape and landscape and is home to a monastery over 1000 years old that guards the Moreneta (black Madonna, patron saint of Catalonia).
14. Parc Natural de Collserola
Collserola is the mountain range that overlooks Barcelona city.
15. Parc Natural de la Serra de Montsant
Located in the Priorat wine area (to take into account if you are wine lovers), the Monstant mountain range is located in a very rural area with lots of vineyards cultivated on the mountain slopes and also lots of historical tiny rural chapels, as well as the ruins of the Escaladei Carthusian monastery.
16. Parc Natural dels Ports
Mountains and lots of natural swimming pools you can bathe in.
You'll be able to find hikes in the websites of all of them.
I hope this was useful and that you enjoy your holidays!
