“There are two ways of being rich—have a lot, or want very little. The latter way is the easier for most of us. Many people make themselves miserable by wanting more than they can ever have. They suffer from “thing-itis,” the insatiable desire for more, better, and newer things. Jesus was the most satisfied man that ever lived, and He had less than most of us. “The foxes have their holes, and the birds their nests, but the Son of man has no place to lay His head.” He had learned the secret of adjusting His wants to His needs.

E. Stanley Jones tells about a poor man who had an overnight guest, and as he showed him to his humble bedroom in the hayloft, he said, “If there is anything you want, let us know, and we’ll come and show you how to get along without it.” We don’t need to learn how to get more, but how to get along with what we’ve got, and get on with the business of living.

Today's Prayer: “Father, You have given me so much more than I deserve. May I always show a grateful and contented heart.”

Apparently there's been a lot of discourse about Nico and Percy on Twitter lately? Idk about here cause I haven't seen much personally, but here are a few facts I think people need to remember, coming from someone who is rereading the series right now:

Nico and Percy do NOT hate each other. They don't even dislike each other

Nico never hated Percy. Nico never really blamed Percy for Bianca's death (he was projecting. This was explained in tbotl).

Nico never wanted Percy dead or to get any revenge on Percy for Bianca's death

Percy never bullied Nico or was even outright mean to him, except for in the Last Olympian

Nico and Percy were on good terms by the end of the Battle of the Labyrinth. They were fine. There was literally no bad blood between them

NICO WAS WRONG TO TAKE PERCY TO HADES WITH NO WARNING. Nico thought Percy wouldn't get hurt because Hades told him he wouldn't hurt him (remember, Nico has no reason not to trust his dad), but Nico still could have at least explained the situation to Percy before taking him to Hades. There was no need to trick him. Percy might have even agreed to go talk to Hades to help Nico in exchange for Nico's help gaining the curse of Achilles, or explained his history with Hades and that Hades was most likely tricking him. Nico probably would have listened! There should have been communication from Nico to Percy

PERCY WAS WRONG FOR THE WAY HE TREATED NICO IN THE LAST OLYMPIAN. Yes, he was stressed. Yes, he was under a lot of pressure. That does not excuse his actions. Him being mad at Nico is 100% understandable. Him holding a sword to Nico's throat and purposely not moving it when he realized Nico was there to get him out is inexcusable, especially when he claimed Silena and Luke were heroes after they got multiple demigods killed and almost killed him/ got him killed multiple times (he called them heroes in the same book, when he was just as stressed, if not more so bc he was literally in the middle of fighting a war and people were dying around him). All three of them took actions to right their wrongs, but only Nico isn't considered a hero to Percy? Why, because he didn't die for him?

Regardless, Nico and Percy DO NOT HAVE BEEF after that. Nico convinced Hades to help and goes and helps in the battle of Manhattan, and Percy appreciates and acknowledges it. No more beef between them

I'm going to stop here because I haven't reread the Heroes of Olympus series yet, and I don't want to misremember anything, but the point is:

Nico and Percy have a complicated relationship. They both have hurt each other, but they've moved past it. They're friends. They're not super duper close, but they do care about each other, and no one can or should deny that.

The faster people accept that they both have done bad things to each other and have moved past those things and don't dislike each other, the faster we can put an end to this ridiculous discourse.

#neither nico nor percy should be hated on. especially not for this #they've both hurt each other. they've both moved on #we should too #i made a post a while back explaining that percy was way out of line for the way he treated nico in tlo and i stand by every word of it #but that doesnt mean nico wasnt wrong for tricking percy in the first place #also saying percy was stressed is not a good defense (as i explain in the post with luke and silena as examples)#and saying nico was just a kid is also not a good defense bc they were both young #sure percy was much older. after all 12 and 16 are very different stages of life developmentally #15 technically but almost 16 #but 15/16 is still very young #so the most common defenses from both sides are just not good arguments tbh #pls just accept that they were both bad to each other and move on like they did. no more blame game. they both take the blame #nico is not perfect #percy is not perfect #i could talk about their relationship all day tbh it's so interesting #more interesting that their fanon relationship tbh #aight that's all for my rant have a good day/night/life :)#nico di angelo #riordanverse #rick riordan #percy jackson #percy jackon and the olympians #pjo series #pjo hoo toa #the last olympian #pjo fandom #pjo

Luke 12:15-21 (‭FBV)‬‬. “Watch out, and beware of all greedy thoughts and actions, for a person's life isn't summed up by all the things they own.” Then he told them a story as an illustration. “Once there was a rich man who owned land that was very productive. After thinking things through, the man said to himself, ‘What shall I do? I've nowhere to store my crops. I know what I'll do,’ he decided. ‘I'll pull down my barns and build bigger ones, and then I'll be able to store all my crops and everything I own. Then I'll tell myself: You have enough to live on for many years, so take life easy: eat, drink, and enjoy yourself!’ But God said to him, ‘You foolish man! Your life will be demanded back this very night, and then who will get everything you've stored up?’ This is what happens to people who hoard up wealth for themselves but are not rich as far as God is concerned.”

“Life is a gift—ask God to help you spend your time on what matters.”

“Today’s passage is about a rich man who made poor use of his days. Assuming a lot of time remained, he left the Lord out of his plans and let materialism guide him.

Paul, on the other hand, knew life was short and made the most of it. He gave to others until his final days. His letters from prison illustrate this—despite knowing he would soon face death, Paul devoted his time and energy to instructing fellow believers and praying for them. He recognized the value of time spent encouraging Christians to do everything as if for the Lord (Colossians 3:23). This is important even when our task seems unrelated to the church. Kingdom work isn’t just for missionaries and pastors; God calls us all to different fields and assignments.

The apostle also knew that the Christian life encompasses struggles. And he was realistic about his own imperfections (Romans 7:5-25). This meant that to make the best use of his time, he needed to persevere, keep faith in God’s promises, and rely on divine power for victory. And indeed, at the end of his life, Paul was able to say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7).

Life is a gift. Every one of us has a limited number of days on this earth. How will you utilize your time so you can look back and, with Paul, confidently say that you ended well?”
