Say whatever you will about VLD, but the fact that they made character like Keith, a socially awkward kid, with a trainwreck of a childhood, a character that is impulsive, little bit selfish (putting Shiro over everyone else), neurodivergent coded if you squint, a *leader* of the team was big. It was so fucking uplifting to see a character like that be trusted with that sort of responsibility and while it wasn't something he naturally excelled at, and growing into that role was a painful and daunting process, he was still allowed to be that. And honestly, half of why he succeeded was his relationship with Shiro, and Shiro's full, unbroken support. I moved on from VLD as a Fandom, but that aspect of the show will always have my heart.
