Years of lifting flour, and mannequins, and heavy fabric, and superheroing caught up to her and well, she is her father’s daughter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media

More chlonette/queen bug cz exams are coming and i do not want them to
Part 1
Lb now deals with two of her regular partners flirting with her
Hello, m'lady~
Hey, bug, need me?
Chloe legit did her homework the next day and complained to mari over call ab how hard it was
She realised she couldn't stop being mean to everyone simply out of habit, so she just straight up started being mean about things they shouldn't do.
Sabrina! You need to tell me if you can't do something.
Ugh, Kim, if you don't stop being so loud in class-
You're such a worrywart, marinette, maybe learn to live a little.
Sure, a lot of mistakes were made, but it was that much better being around chloe.
In just a few months, chloe proved adept at staying out of sight of akumatised victims and capable of shattering akumas on her own. Moreover, she was a great fighter, a good hero.
With time, the number of akumas targetting her went down to zero and she was almost a new person.
Then, one day, lb needed her for something different. She needed bee to find out chat's identity and pass him messages in his civillian form.
When chloe found out it was "ADRIKINS!?" she realised she couldn't possibly continue hating chat. But she also couldn't give lb up to him for grabs.
That's exactly what she told him.
Adrien, Chat. You've been my best friend since childhood. I've seen what you go through, with your fa-umm... what you've gone through since your mother's death.
If you ever need to talk about anything, you are always welcome. About anything at all.
Thanks, but i kinda already stop by mari's terrace to talk about my problems as chat. Of course, i haven't revealed my identity to her so maybe there are some things i can come to you about.
Righhhht. Hm- so another thing is, chat, i really like ladybug too. And i won't give her up to you without a fight. And I'll never lose to you!
XDXD Looking forward to it, your highness :)
Then on, queen bee would drop by at the bakery, through the front door, flowers for her buginette.
(I'd like to imagine chat also upped his game when he found out chloe was getting close to mari and brought his princess little trinkets.) (He wasn't aware she was also lb at all.)
With time, mari became fond of the bee buzzing around her everywhere.
Before either of them realised they were calling each other sweet treats and honey tart, bug and bee
Mari couldn't have pointed out when she fell, but at some point, she accidentally told queen bee she loved her as she left for home from the bakery.
Chloe carried that blinding smile all the way through the weekend and into school on monday. Sure, mari was an anxious wreck that whole week. Because what else would you expect out of her? But chloe? Chloe had learnt a new skill in the past year. The ability to stay hidden and melt into bright light. She became the white noise in marinette's life until mari couldn't help but feel comforted by her presence.
They started dating in secret in a few months. As lb and qb, they told chat. He was, well, depressed to say the least. He'd tell mari all about it, and mari couldn't help but feel guilty.
Chloe and mari had comforted him in the bakery more than once in the middle of their dates. Chloe could forgive him. She'd also be broken if mari chose him over her.
Chat never did get over lb, but he got better at putting his mask back on.
Meanwhile, the viewers get to realise something about marinette that is not too obvious in the show. Marinette is not a mary sue. She is stubborn, she needs things to go her way, and she doesn't think any of her partners are capable without instruction. Yes, she is a good leader, but she is a very, very bad standby observer.
Chloe and mari both value their freedom, they both don't like making too many compromises and they both prefer if things move according to their plan. So while chloe is quick to anger, marinette frets. They get into fights. Chloe uses insults as her weapon. Marinette launches into tirades or sasses her back.
The fights aren't frequent. Because both the girls do compromise to quite an extent; out of guilt, love, and empathy. But there are these other more frequent little squabbles between the two about little things.
One wanted a particular flower. The other can't afford a certain cafe. Marinette's morals, chloe's standards. Usually, marinette would bring chloe baked goods and chloe would give in.
All good, right? Well, everything keeps happening according to mari's wishes. Marinette rarely compromises on these. Rose accidentally points it out during a project one day.
It sort of breaks chloe when she realises. When she asks marinette, the girl points out she thinks it's because chloe realises she's wrong.
Chloe barely manages to keep her tears in check as she breaks up with marinette. Does mari still think she is better than chloe? Maybe. She goes straight home and locks herself in. After crying 2 days straight, she finds chat at her window. She can't tell him anything really. But the support is good enough.
When he realises she isn't in a position to answer his questions, he simply gets her into the bath, playfully swatting the water at her with his tail. He gets her a towel after about 30 mins, washes off all her running makeup, and wraps her up in it. Chloe sits, dripping water on her bed while chat rummages for a change of clothes.
He gets her one of her childhood favourites and begs her to change out of wet clothes. It takes chloe another half an hour to make it even with pollen's help. Chat dries her hair off and brushes it into a fancy updo. He recharges and takes chloe to a food joint, and gets take out that they have on the eiffel tower.
(Chloe doesn't speak but chat doesn't actually need her to. Afterall, lb has been out of it too. But he knows something now. Because he comforted marinette through a breakdown, he knows who his lady is, now. He doesn't tell the girls. They don't realise it through their pain either.)
When the girls start talking to each other again, months later, the pain and hurt remains. But they've both grown into better people. Sometimes, they still call each other bee and bug. Old habits do die hard.

Marinette’s friends and connections
It has occurred to me just how many of Marinette’s classmates have prestigious family.
To get the obvious ones out of the way:
Adrien: Gabriel Agreste, fashion designer; Émilie, ex-nobility (she gave up her title) and actress
Chloe (and Zoe): Mayor, Andre Bourgeois; Audrey is a renowned fashion critique
Juleka (and Luka): Jagged Stone (even though they didn’t know it most of their lives)
But there’s a surprising amount of others with pretty high-up positions:
Alya: mom is head chef at a very famous hotel (owned by the Mayor himself) and was even a judge on that chef competition next to a TV host and a literal rockstar; dad owns the zoo (I think, he at least runs it)
Mylène: dad is a famous mime (famous enough to get his face plastered all over Paris for his show)
Sabrina: her dad isn’t just a regular cop, he’s the chief cop
Lila: her mom is an ambassador (yes, I’m including her, I think this one is actually true, seeing as her mom was actually on screen that one time)
Max: mom operates the StarTrain, then becomes and astronaut and almost immediately tests a new AI in space (idk how she got through training that fast)
Alix: her dad runs the freaking Louvre
That’s nine (9) students! Out of 15 in the class! That’s more than half the students with at least one parent in a prestigious position.
AND, this includes herself!
Yeah, her parents are bakers, and they only really get famous-level popular after Marinette gets them endorsements from Ladybug and Jagged Stone, but remember: her uncle (great uncle?) is a famous chef in China! He literally owns a world-renowned restaurant in Shang Hai! And even if he’s not super commonly known in France, it’s still well-enough that he was invited to be a major chef competition at the Mayor’s hotel! Also, her grandma (dad’s side) apparently has enough money to just spend years traveling and buy her a motorized scooter on a whim. So, there’s also that.
Non-classroom honorable mentions:
- Kagami: mom and Tsurugi tech
- Manon: mom is the host of almost every news show it seems
- Aurore: kids tv weather girl (she’s shown to be friends with her briefly in s3)
“Normal girl with a normal life” my butt, Marinette!

Into The Unknown, Part 52
First
Previous
“What the fuck,” Marinette mumbled, her eyes fixed on her computer, a hand hovering above the trackpad unsurely.
Tim shifted his legs from her lap so he could lean over and look.
Marinette slammed the laptop closed.
Which, she supposed, was probably the most suspicious way to go about that. Something that was confirmed by the way Tim stared at her with wide eyes.
She smiled sheepishly. “Oh noooooo my – uh – I don’t know – fuck – porn I was watching porn yes totally – my porn closed out! Guess I can’t show you!”
“You do realize you said all of that out loud, right?”
“Yeah, but I don’t think you’re going to snoop if I say you shouldn’t.”
Tim pressed his lips together thinly.
And then he groaned, coming to rest his head on her shoulder again. “You know, if you’re going to play the whole ‘you are a moral person and would never do anything wrong’ card then I’m going to pull the ‘you know you can come to me with anything’ routine to guilt you.”
Damn. That’s a good routine.
Marinette thought it over for just a few moments more, chewing on her bottom lip thoughtfully, before she sighed and opened up her computer again to show off her many tabs dedicated to college searching. “I’ve been thinking about applying to get into college. Y’know, since we’re going to be here for a while. Figured I might as well get my degree and all that, since my last attempt at going to college was rudely interrupted.”
Tim smiled despite the tiny jab she had sent his way. “That sounds nice. Why’ve you been hiding it?”
A blush rose to her face. “Don’t know. Just. It would be… embarrassing if I told you about it and then didn’t get in. Could you imagine? How lame would that be?”
He hummed and pressed a kiss to her cheek. “Well, if you don’t get in, I’ll just hack the system and change it for you.”
“Aw, honey,” she said, turning to press her forehead against his, her lips curled into a cheeky kind of smile. “You’d commit domestic terrorism for me? So romantic.”
“I’m very sure you’re not using the word right. It’s closer to fraud than anything.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Getting less and less romantic by the second.”
“I will commit domestic terrorism for you, darling,” Tim corrected himself.
She snickered and pressed a short kiss to his lips.
He smiled a little dopily as she pulled back, and she was very tempted to kiss him again, but she had suddenly remembered what had started this conversation in the first place:
She pointed an accusing finger at her screen. “Why are college apps in Gotham so weird?”
“Hm?” He said, blinking once to snap himself out of it, and then looking down at her computer.
He snorted.
Because the essay prompt read as followed:
Tell us about an event that played a major role in shaping who you are today. (We advise you to choose something unique, and not fall back on cliches such as a car crash, kidnapping, or mugging.)
~
Tim smiled as he watched Damian draw. The kid was getting better at it. As he aged, his hands got steadier and steadier, allowing for more clean-looking pictures.
And what was he drawing?
Well, at the moment, Frank. For some reason, the kid really liked drawing things in the world around him. Not that Tim was complaining, he really didn’t mind.
The only one that minded was, apparently, Frank. The dog was trained to stay with Damian but, usually, that still allowed for some movement.
Which is where Tim came in. He petted the dog to keep her still and satisfied while Damian attempted to figure out shading on his own.
Tim and Marinette had both, of course, tried to show him themselves… but Damian had seemed less than happy with this. Their little boy was growing up so fast. He didn’t need them anymore.
Just kidding. The moment he deemed the picture finished, he held it up for Tim’s approval.
Tim, of course, didn’t hesitate: “It’s really good, kiddo. I really like how you used grey to show the lighting of the room. Really adds depth.”
Whether or not he fully understood it, Damian beamed at the praise.
And then, after a few moments where he seemed to mull it over, he showed Frank, too.
Frank, of course, didn’t seem to know quite what was going on. She nosed at the picture a little bit, but didn’t seem to know what to do with the fact that she had been presented with something that was not food.
Damian started to look a little nervous the longer he went without response.
Tim shifted his hand to scratch behind the dog’s ear instead, in that spot he knew she loved.
Frank’s tail wagged accordingly.
“I think she likes it!”
Damian’s eyes lit up. He nodded once, as if to say this was the only possible outcome and he had entirely expected it, and then pointed to the fridge.
Said fridge was running out of space to put drawings on, but Tim would find a way.
Anything for Damian.
~
Marinette poked her head around the doorframe, peering into Bruce’s office. He had no appointments at the moment, she knew (as that was literally her job), but she felt that it was perfectly normal to be somewhat cautious. Even though she knew firsthand about all of the amazing benefits that Wayne Enterprises offered – it was why she had started working there in the first place – she couldn’t help but be hesitant about asking.
Bruce, apparently having the strange sixth sense that all parents do to know when their kid wants something from them, looked up at her.
He raised an eyebrow. “Yes, Marinette?”
She grimaced. No going back now.
She slipped inside, shutting the door behind her, and made her way over to the chair in front of his desk.
Somehow, Bruce’s eyebrow crept higher.
She sighed, deciding to cut to the chase: “I’ve been applying to colleges. And, uh, I was wondering about the scholarships the company offers.”
“Oh,” said Bruce, his expression lightening into something that could almost be described as fond. “Well, we pay for up to $30,000 of what FAFSA and the school’s scholarships don’t cover, which is basically everything for most people.”
She nodded dutifully. She knew this, she had looked it up. But she wasn’t going to tell that to the person paying vast sums of money for her.
“Coolcoolcool,” she mumbled, running a hand through her hair as she thought everything over.
“Are you going full-time or part-time?”
“Full-time. I’m enrolling in twelve credits – for scholarship reasons – but they’re all night and early morning classes so it won’t affect you too much, promise.”
“I’ll reduce your hours either way. I’m sure Tim would run over to beat me up if he heard I was overworking you,” Bruce said.
Then, he laughed at the bitter look that came over her face.
Marinette thought her pout-iness was more than justified. How dare her husband care about her mental and physical well-being? Truly, he must hate her.
“And… what are you going to do about recommendations?”
Marinette smiled nervously. “Well, as you are my current employer, I’m going to have to list you… as for the others, I’m going to ask the WP people to help me.”
(This was, of course, a lie. They were not in witness protection, and therefore would find it very difficult to get an agent to give them a recommendation. In reality, they were going to commit so much fraud.)
He smiled. “I’ll be sure to give you a glowing review.”
“Please don’t,” she groaned, her face flushing. “I’m fine with a normal recommendation.”
He laughed lightly. “Fine, fine. I won’t go into ‘proud dad gushing about his kids mode’, as Jason likes to call it.”
Marinette breathed a sigh of relief. That had gone well. Not that she had thought that it wouldn’t, but she was allowed to be nervous about things. She pushed herself up to stand.
Only to be stopped with a quiet question: “What are you intending on studying?”
Marinette hesitated. She had, originally, been intending on going back into psychology. But that wasn’t really useful for her, and she understood herself well enough to know that she had never gone into psychology because of passion. She had gone because it was the closest she could come to what she was comfortable with.
And everything about this reality was so different, so why not make a tiny change? One that would help once she got home?
“Medicine, I think. It’ll take a while, but the time will pass anyways –.”
And then, to her horror, she realized Bruce’s eyes were starting to water.
She, awkwardly, walked over and gave him a couple of pats on the back. “Are you okay, Bruce?”
He sniffed loudly, rubbing under his eyes. “Of course.”
~
There are many lessons that could be taken from this story. People, over time, with the right kind of support, will get better. Love, be it platonic or romantic, is a beautiful thing. Do not try and rush life, things will come when they come regardless of what you do. But do not run away from the things life throws at you either, because you are only ever just delaying the inevitable, and prolonging your stress.
Tim, however, would impress upon you a different, very specific lesson he would like you to learn: never go to Japanese restaurants with karaoke bars if you aren’t alone.
If you go with friends, it’s very likely you will end up peer-pressured into going up with them, or dared to go up alone, or drunk enough off of sake to go up on your own accord. Sure, maybe you and your friends are the type to make fun of people that go up there, but you’ll never really know until you’re there, and is this really something you want to risk being wrong about?
Want to go have food with your family? Too bad. Now you’re singing a song from The Tiny Merperson’s soundtrack in front of a crowd.
Tim isn’t sure what’s more embarrassing. The fact that he is singing a kid’s song up on stage (Damian is singing into the mic with him, belting his heart out, and they both sound terrible, but since when is the point of karaoke to be good), the fact that Marinette is definitely recording this (she has a soft smile on her face, and this only makes cheeks go even more red), or the fact that he doesn’t have to look at the lyrics on the screen once (his kid stumbles over a good third of the words, his eyes narrowed to near slits in concentration as he looks at the lyrics as if he can will the words to make more sense).
Okay, it was somewhat fun. Embarrassing beyond belief, but he did enjoy it. If only a little bit.
It ended up being worth it, though, because when they got back to the table, Marinette leaned to press a kiss to the corner of his lips and said that she loved him quite a lot.
This wasn’t news, really, but it was always nice to be reminded.
~
Marinette wasn’t a coward. She had been through too much – done too much – to ever be called a coward.
She did, however, have anxiety.
Which is why she was currently staring at a particular bit of mail. It sat on the counter, looking far too innocent for something that could ruin either her next week as she dealt with the pain of rejection… or her next several years as she struggled through school.
Basically, the options weren’t great, and she couldn’t bring herself to open it.
Frank was bumping her nose against her repeatedly, and Marinette scratched her behind the ears distractedly. She knew that this meant that she needed to sit down and give herself a couple of minutes to relax, but she was too jittery to sit.
Thankfully, Tim chose that exact minute to get home from work, Damian on his hip.
He blinked a couple of times at the scene – she must have looked weird, hands braced on the counter in front of the letter, staring at the slip of paper like it was going to explode.
Which, admittedly, was normal in Gotham, but not this version of Gotham.
And then a soft look came over his face. He set down Damian (who immediately ran to greet Frank) and walked over until he could wrap his arms around her from behind. “Do you want me to open it and read it for you?”
Marinette snorted, even as a strange kind of warmth seemed to envelop her. Surely, it was this sudden hot flash that was causing her face to redden. “I’m fully capable of opening it, Tim.”
“I know.” He pressed a kiss to her shoulder, and she could feel the way his lips were curved into a smile against her skin. “But I’m not sure I want to wait until next year to find out.”
She whirled around in his arms to glare at him, but it was hard to be angry when he was smiling at her so sweetly.
She huffed. The tension bled out of her, bit by bit. She gave a tiny groan and pressed her forehead against his. The arms around her squeezed.
“Dickhead,” she mumbled.
He laughed. “Only for you.” He pressed a short kiss to her lips, and then slowly reached past her for the letter.
She let him, so he was quick to open it and empty the envelope into his hands, not feeling any need to drag it out any more than she already had. There was more than one slip of paper, which was promising, at least.
His eyes scanned over the first line, and she just barely had enough time to take in the way his smile widened before he pulled her into another hug.
She hugged back, if hesitantly. “This… is a good hug, right?”
“You got in!” He said brightly.
And relief flooded into her, nearly making her knees buckle. She was sure that Tim would have caught her if they had. But she didn’t, she held steady, and buried her face in his shoulder.
“Holy fuck,” she whispered.
She pulled away to look for herself, and the bolded words of congratulation at the top of the page made a smile stretch itself over her face.
Damian made grabby hands, and she didn’t hesitate to hand it over.
Green eyes narrowed as he looked down at the paper. Brows furrowed as he scanned over the contents. It was plain to see that he didn’t really understand what was going on. But, still, he looked up at her with a tiny smile.
“Proud of it?” Damian asked.
Marinette exchanged mildly confused looks with Tim, but told him that she was.
“Then it's for the fridge,” Damian said. He nodded once, as if agreeing with himself.
And it was a little embarrassing, but the kid was clearly trying to support her in his own way and how was she supposed to say no to that?
So, it was tacked to the fridge beside one of Damian’s drawings.
If her eyes were a little wet, it wasn’t because she felt like she was drowning in love or anything, she had just yawned.
~
Steph was the one that had pointed it out to him. She hadn’t even realized what he’d done – couldn’t, for she didn’t have any context. But she had ruined his life.
How, you make ask?
She had just mentioned, offhandedly, that he should tell her if Marinette needed help with her homework, because she didn't trust her to do it herself, and med school was difficult.
Which promptly sent him spiraling.
Steph. Marinette. Hell, even Bernard was an EMT, even if it was only an alternate version of him that was dating the man. This was starting to get ridiculous.
Why was his type so specific?!

Hi! Does Alya really assume the worst of Mari in this particular chapter (like, quite often yes, she does, but in this case)? Or is it Marinette's interpreting it like that? P. S. Love your work!
A bit of both! Alya doesn't naturally think the worst of her, but Lila is good at manipulating her and the class into assuming Marinette is "messing up" pretty frequently, and Marinette's pessimistic attitude due to trauma means every time no one stands up for her against Lila, it just proves her own insecurities right and she considers it fact. When Alya jumped into lecture mode, it came from a genuine place of worry - but lecturing someone who already thinks you hate them won't lead to any good conclusion, just further hostilities, or putting her on the defensive.
While Marinette's feelings are valid, they're not 100% rational, but no one's proven her WRONG yet, since Lila plays the part of cuckoo so well. If Alya thought the worst of Marinette, she wouldn't have come to her for help during her argument with Lila - but as you'll see in the next update, Alya and Marinette had a blowup argument in the past that was pretty messy on both sides, leading to this cold attitude from Marinette.

In Sickness and in Health
"Damian, I need you to work with the new student on this project." his history teacher stated.
"What new student?" the young Wayne questioned.
'There's no one new here. Has he finally lost it?'
"Stay after class, please." they replied.
Damian simply nodded.
'At least if the new person is all in his head, I can work by myself.'
"The new student isn't here today as she's sick. They're also a transfer student." The teacher spoke, "Here is her address."
"You want me to go there and become ill?" Damian speculated.
"Not at all, Mr. Wayne. All I am asking is that you, at least, speak to her about the project." the teacher sighed, "She'll know better than anyone how long she'll be absent. Get her to write a note saying, I don't know, she gives you full control on the project or something. I'll deal with it from there."
"I can do that." Damian accepted.
'At least I can still work by myself.'
Damian looked down at the address in his hand an then back at the seamstress shop. Confused, the young Wayne entered the store and looked around for someone his own age.
"Can I help you?" asked an elderly lady.
"I was given this address for a classmate of mine." Damian explained, "I believe they mixed it up. Excuse me."
"Are you looking for Marinette?" they questioned.
'Marinette? Is that her name? Not American; he did mention they were a transfer student.'
"Yes." he answered, still unsure.
"Go through the blue curtain in the far back." the lady smiled, "There's a set of stairs that will take you to the apartment above the store."
Damian nodded and went to the back of the store. There was blue cloth hung up on a shower rod that parted slightly.
'A door would be better suited.'
Damian walked up the stairs to the second story and found single door. He raised his hand and knocked on the door. The door opened and he was shocked. There in the doorway was a girl with blue hair, up to his chest. She was wearing what seemed to be pajamas, had a blanket draped over her shoulders, a face mask, and a cooling cloth attached to her forehead.
'She is obviously seriously ill. How did she open the door? Why didn’t anyone else open it for her?'
"Who are you?" she questioned, hoarsely.
"Damian Wayne." he declared, "I was told to talk to you about a history project for school."
She moved away from the door and went stright to the kitchen.
"Sit anywhere you want. I haven't sat in the living room in three days. I'd offer you a beverage, but I don't want to get you sick and asking you to get it yourself, seems rude." the girl spoke.
'Polite; unexpected.'
"What are you doing?" Damian questioned, as he watched her stir a pot.
"Making soup for the week." Marinette answered.
"So, I should not expect you to return this week." he suggested.
"I usually eat soup when I'm sick and for the following days, to keep my immune system cleansed." she explained, "So, history? Leave me the details and I'll work on it."
"Mr. Hayes suggested you could write a note putting me in charge." Damian spoke.
"I can work, Damian." Mari remarked, "I don't need you coddling me because I'm sick."
'Coddle! I-The last thing I would do is….coddle her!'
Damian snapped, "I am giving you a way out! Get your rest and I will do it completely!"
"I'm on bedrest and as you can see, I'm functional." she growled back.
Marinette began to cough heavidly, enough to make her grip the kitchen counter. Damian watched as her breaths became labored, as if she had trouble inhaling.
'She calls this functional?'
Marinette grabbed a mug and poured hot water from a near by kettle. Damian watched as she spooned a small amount of tea leaves into a container and place it in the mug.
'Peppermint? She should try lemon, ginger, something citrus.'
"When are your parents getting back?" Damian asked, not moving from the doorway.
"I'm emancipated." she smiled.
'She's by herself?'
Damian looked around and noticed a small table with one chair. The living room had enough to seat up to three guests. There was also one door to the left, behind the living room.
"Leave the form and an email or something so I can send you my portion." Marinette called out, "If you don't like it, I can work in my room and you can work from out here."
Damian took out a pen and quickly wrote down his email at the top of the paper.
"I'll be back, tomorrow." he stated, leaving the apartment.
'Why is she so stubborn? She needs to rest. The simplest solution would be for her to rest this week while I work alone. What is she trying to accomplish?'
The moment she opened the door, Damian stared at Marinette annoyed. She had showed recently, but her hair was still wet. At the very least, she was wearing different clothes.
He scowled, "Where is the bathroom?"
"Oh, in my room, on your left." Marinette pointed out.
'Guess he really needed to go.'
Damian came back with a towel and threw it over her head, without notice. He quickly began to rub her head to get the moisture out.
"You're going to get worse with you hair looking like a wet mop." Damian stated, "Dry it completely."
Marinette remained silent and still. Damian stopped his movements.
"Marinette?" he asked, moving to face her.
'Shit!'
Marinette's eyes were wide and she was practially hyperventilating. She was clenching and unclenching her hands.
'She does not handle physical contact well. Is she going to be okay at school?'
Damian kneeled in front of her and showed his hands were raised in front of him.
"My apologies." Damian whispered, "I didn't mean to startle you."
Damian reached out and dragged his bag, next to the couch. He pulled out a small cylinder.
"I brought you some tea leaves. Citrus help you recover from illness." he began, "I don't believe peppermint will work." as he handed her the container.
Marinette took it and looked at it. She opened it and sniffed the tea leaves. There was lemon, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. There was some other stuff she couldn't make out.
"You......made this?" Marinette questioned.
'Why would he give this to me?'
Damian remained silent, but nodded. He didn't think she would noticed he took his time to make her something.
"I make my own teas." he replied.
Mari smiled, "Thank you."
Damian watched as her expression softened. She got up from her seat, letting the towel fall from her head, and quickly began to get things ready to brew the tea. Once it was finished brewing, she took a sip.
"It’s delicious, Damian!" Mari smiled, happily, "Maybe I should go to you for all of my teas."
Before he could respond, Marinette took her tea and went into her room. Damian picked up his things and saw she had gotten comfortable in her bed with her laptop on a tray.
"Were we not working over there?" he questioned.
"I don't want to get you sick." Marinette replied, "Besides, there's only one chair. I'll just email you-"
Damian left the room and returned with the chair from her kitchen table.
"I don't get sick, easily." Damian declared, setting the chair down a few feet from her bed, "h quicker we finish this, the more you can rest."
Marinette worked silently, sipping on the tea Damian had brought her. After an hour, Damian packed up his thing, declaring he'd return the next day.
This time, when Marinette opened the door, he could tell she was moving much more sluggish.
'She got worse! She's pushing herself for me. Damn her stubbornness!'
Damian quickly picked her up in his arms.
"You're-" she began.
"If I get sick, I will blame you later." Damian claimed.
"Sorry." Mari whispered.
Damian placed her back in her bed. He quickly rushed to the bathroom in search of a first aid kit or at least, a thermometer. Once he found it, he brought it back and held it out. Mairnette looked at it, in dissapointment.
"Use it." he demanded.
Marinette shoved it in her mouth and waited. The quick beeping notified them both something was wrong. Mari took it out of her mouth n tried to hide it. Damian was able to grab it with ease.
'102.5'
"I'm fine." Marinette declared.
"You are far from fine." Damian stated.
Damian took the thermometer to the bathroom and washed it, as well as his hands. When he returned, he found Marinette fast asleep. He found a cooling pad near by and placed it on her head. Damian remember a small cloth by the sink and wet it. He quickly cooled off her arms, her neck, and her legs, before covering her up. Damian took out a sticky note and wrote down his number.
Marinette woke up to the room being dark.
"Damian?" she called out.
She grabbed her phone and saw it was close to two in the morning. She set her phone down and felt a paper.
'Sticky note?'
She turned on the flashlight on her phone and looked at the note: Call me if you worsen-Damian.
'Aw. He's really sweet. I feel so bad for falling asleep on him.'
Marinette stood up and made her way to the bathroom. She grabbed the thermometer from the medicine cabinet and took her temperature. It read 99.2; it was the best it had been all week. She washed the thermometer and took some medicine. After, she made more of Damian's tea.
'Gonna need it.'
Damian arrived back from patrol to find an email from Mari.
'I thought I told her to call me if she got worse, not email me!'
He opened it in a panic and found it was her completed work for the assignment. Damian looked at the time. It was now three in the morning and she had sent it thirty minutes ago. He grabbed his phone and opened his contacts. Then, he froze.
'I don’t have her number! Fuck!'
Damian went over the next day and was surprised to see her more active. Marinette had answered the door happily and was dressed in white tank top, pink shorts, and slippers. She wasn't even using a blanket to keep herself warm.
"Damian!" She smiled, "Hey, did you get my email?"
"I did." he answered.
"Is everything okay?" Mari asked, "I didn't think I'd see you today."
"Why did you send it so late or early, I should say." Damain questioned.
"It was when I woke up." Marinette answered, "I'm sorry for falling asleep on you. I decided it was best to work on it, while I had a clear head. I'm feeling a lot better, so I should be able to see you at school tomorrow. I'm sure it was all thanks to your tea."
Damian nodded and held out his phone for her to grab. Marinette looked at it confused, but took it.
"I planned on yelling at you, for being up so late, but I didn't have you number." the young Wayne stated.
Marinette giggled, "And I should give it to you, why?"
Damian remained silent. He didn't think she would refuse to give her number to him.
"In case we are paired up again." he quickly spoke.
Mari added her contact information and handed it back.
"Sick Girl?" he questioned.
"So you know it's me." Mari answered.
He hated how right she was. It was likely that if she had entered her name, he would have forgotten it in a week and deleted it.
"Do you want to come in or was that all?" she asked.
"That was all." he said and quickly left.
Marinette closed the door an giggled.
'He's like a stray cat that came to say hi.'
Damian sat in class and kept his eyes on the door. Marinette hadn't walked in, yet, and it was almost time for the bell to ring.
'Is she still sick? Did her fever come back? I should have called her this morning to make sure she was feeling fine.'
The bell rang breaking him from his thoughts and then, she rushed in.
'Marinette.'
"Late." their teacher declared, "I will forgive you, this time, since you have been sick, Miss Duapin-Cheng."
Marinette nodded her head. It was finally time for history class and it was so different to see her in uniform. Damian could admit he more use to seeing her in pajamas or shorts, with her blanket curled around her. He was even use to her falling asleep, but some how the uniform felt less personal. He hated it. Damian watched carefully over Marinette. He had to make sure she was completely better. Her damn stubbornness left him worried about her pretending to feel better for his sake. Then, he saw it; the tense smile on her face. She was surrounded by their peers. It reminded him of the smiles his brothers' gave at parties. Damian walked over and grabbed her wrist.
"We need to talk about the project since you have been absent." he declared.
"Oh, okay." Marinette answered, as he pulled her away from everyone else.
"He could have been nicer."
"It's Wayne. When is he ever nice?"
"Lucky bitch."
"I can’t believe she was his partner."
"He probably did it himself, already."
"Yeah. He's just gonna give her a copy and put her name on it."
"I can’t believe he touched her."
"True."
"Better than him yelling at us to move or scram, again."
Marinette frowned as she heard what they said about Damian. That wasn't the Damian she knew.
"Thank you." Marinette whispered, once they were far enough.
Damian looked at her questioningly.
"For rescuing me." she answered.
"You appeared uncomfortable." the young Wayne spoke, " I was uncertain how you would react if one of them touched you. I understand if I made you uncomfortable, as well. My apologies for forcing you. Next time, tell them to leave."
"I'm not good at dealing with people; not anymore." Mari declared, "Besides, they should forget about me soon. I'm still 'new' in their eyes. I'm not trying to gain anything by talking to them. I don’t want to get to know them."
"I thought you weren't coming." Damian spoke, changing the subject.
"Huh?" she asked, confused, "I told you I was coming today."
"You were late." he growled.
"Oh." Marinette winced, "Uh….I have a feeling I will be in detention a lot."
Damian stopped and turned to her, waiting for an explanation.
"I have always been late to school, even when it was across from my house." she stated.
Damian sighed, "I'll pick you up in the mornings."
"No!" she cried out.
"Why?" he demanded, "Is that an issue? I have been to your place before, have I not?"
"I'm not a morning person." Mari replied, looking down.
He sighed again, "My brother isn't either, unless he has had coffee. I can bring you some." making a mental note to steal Tim's coffee in the morning from now on.
"Really?" Mari questioned, perking up.
"You better, at least, be dressed." Damian retorted.
"Pajamas count as being dressed, right?" she squeaked.
Damian glared at her, "Why would you still be in pajamas?"
"I'm not a morning person!" Marinette glared back, "I work late and-"
"The shop keeps you that busy?" he questioned.
"Oh." Marinette spoke, "No. I help in the shop sometimes, but that's not my job. I do commissions. She asks me to help some times, but she's going to let me use the sewing machine for free until I can buy one."
"How….long do your commissions take?" he sighed.
"Depends who it's for. If it's for my uncle, I tend to work three weeks straight. It also depends on the pay and timeline. If he called me right now and asked for something in six months, I wouldn't worry unless things began to pile up. It could also be one of my aunties."
'What the fuck is with her family? No wonder why she is emancipated! I can't believe they would work her that hard.'
"You're moving into the manor." Damian declared, "I'll even get you a new sewing machine."
"I am not!" she cried out, "I barely know you! All I know is you name and you make tea!"
"At this rate, I'll have to get you dressed and drag you to school!" Damian cried back.
"Who the fuck made you my babysitter?" Marinette shouted.
"Someone should be." he huffed, "You obviously need someone to take care of you. I don’t see why it shouldn't be me!"
Marinette squeaked and turned red. Realizing what he said, so did Damian.
The teacher watched as Damian took Marinette aside to talk. He was well aware that their assignment had been turned in three days ago. He couldn't hear what they were saying, but it was the closest he had ever seen Damian be comfortable around anyone. He also was aware of Marinette's past school and being bullied.
'I knew getting them to talk would be a good thing.'

About Chloé in Revolution
We finally see that yes, her tantrums are of a spoiled brat, but in the end, she searched for Marinette. It was always about her and HER opinions. The bullying, everything, was all for her. The reaction she never got from her mother, the attention she always wanted, came everytime from Marinette and she enjoyed that in a twisted way because she had control of someone.
And when Marinette rejected her, in Chloé's last attempt to get any reaction from Mari, she broke. She finally broke because she was truly alone. And i liked that. Indifference is worse than hatred.
Chloé lost the last person in her world, and that was Marinette.
