- Your sister says you don't have a family.
- No, I don't.
- She thinks that you ought to get married and have children of your own, instead of trying to be a father to hers.

- That's interesting... anything else?
- She thinks you like policing because you think you are right about everything and you're the only one who can do anything, and when you drink a lot of beer you say things like 'none of the other police know a crook from a bag of elbows!'. At least I think that's what she said.

North Rota
Alex North is one of the preeminent Hollywood soundtrack composers. On this mp3 cd I have The Sound & The Fury (1959) OST, Street Car Named Desire (1951), Passover Plot (1976) OST, and Penitent (1988). It's been a long time since your hosts have travelled to France! This week we cover LES YEUX SANS VISAGE (1960) aka EYES WITHOUT A FACE from director Georges Franju!
Based on the Jean Redon novel, the film stars Pierre Brasseur, Alida Valli and Édith Scob. It delivers French New Wave horror while keeping you at arm's length -- but will that work in its favour?

- Okay, I'm going. And you two secret agents can settle down and be secret agents.
- I wish you wouldn't use such words, my love.

- Everybody in Washington does not know these things. And I would thank you not to repeat them. Go to bed.
- Nicole, where did you hear that about the Chief of Russian Intelligence?
- From my butcher.

34 years ago today Dead Poets Society was released. This piece of music (Mr Keating's Triumph by Maurice Jarre) always chokes me up when I listen to it - but hearing it in its proper place as it accompanies this scene absolutely floors me - proper sobbing gone.
