"aang didn't tell katara to forgive just to let her anger out and let go" ?!?!?!?! litcheraclly the WHOLE false dichotomy presented by the narrative of the episode (using AANG as the primary mouthpiece) is forgiveness vs revenge like please watch the episode again and pay actual attention to the words coming out of aang's mouth.... so many tsr takes ignore the words in aang's mouth to interpret him more positively while putting words in zuko's mouth to view him more negatively, all the while pretending katara never said anything at all about HER OWN TRAUMA

I've been thinking a lot lately about how so many people miss the point of TSR completely. Like Katara did forgive Zuko because forgiveness is earned and no Katara didn't forgive Yon Rha because she can choose who to forgive/ who not to forgive and no Katara shouldn't have killed Yon Rha because the whole point of the episode is that you don't have to forgive someone to show them mercy. That's why Bryke insisting that Katara "forgave Yon Rha" after the fact is not only fucking stupid because she literally says something exactly to the contrary in the episode and it doesn't just remove her agency it removes the complicated moral theme

#such a complex message its honestly my favorite episode #but I feel like a big chunk of the fandom missed the point one way or another #there is an argument that they perhaps didn't consider the social factors involved in implying katara was just as bad as Yon Rha if #she decided to kill him because that's obviously not true #but still I just feel like with all the people dissecting the episode over the years the overarching theme was kind of missed #we all just focus on the smallest of lines we're ignoring the bigger picture #katara #zutara #tsr #atla #avatar the last airbender

Do you think if Katara and Zuko found Yon Rha on the ship in TSR that Katara would have been more able to kill him? I don't think she would have but part of the reason why she couldn't kill him was because he left the war and she discovered he was living a pathetic life. Maybe she would have been more triggered to see him in the same armor from her memories and nightmares. I mean she straight up bloodbended the wrong guy without hesitation. I think her rage was less intense after the full moon too. Maybe she would have been less merciful if she encountered him in the height of her rage.

She definitely would have been less merciful. I don't think she would have killed him because that is not who Katara is, nor is it who Zuko is, and contrary to the popular anti belief, neither of them are out for blood. Nor does it fit with the genre of the show, which would not have allowed them to kill in any case.

We also already know that being needlessly cruel towards even people who have hurt her is not what Katara wants, exemplified by her reactions to Jet and Hamma and Zuko, who, even as she takes every opportunity to snipe at him, initially told him to leave when he tried to make nice with the gaang because she did not want to fight him, she did not want him as a prisoner, she is not the kind of person to be that vindictive that she would actually really hurt him.

However, had Yon Rah still been active, they would have done what was necessary to stop him. Maybe not killed him, but I've said before that they should have stopped the Southern Raiders who were active who were on that ship. Maybe sabotaged the ship or something. This show has repeatedly been creative with stopping the bad guys with nonviolence, you can't convince me it wouldn't have been possible in this case.

Like, Sokka dumping mooks into the ocean is okay and harmless but Katara bloodbending the captain of a unit whose entire purpose is the raiding and pillaging and systemic murder of indigenous people means she's blinded by revenge and out for blood? Okay.

That's why I like the headcanon that Zuko and Katara's little visit at least put the fear of god into that man and his crew enough for them to reconsider what they were doing. He didn't kill Kya but that doesn't mean he should be allowed to continue to lead raids. And I'm also not convinced that the raids stopped. If that was the case, why is the unit still active? Why do they have a new captain after the old one retired? Why did Zuko instantly know where they were positioned, if there hasn't been a raid since he was a young child? What were they doing out there, having a pleasure cruise? Not likely.

Here is the first gift to show my appreciation for reaching 100 followers. I’ve already teased this one a bunch, it is a 3t2 recreation of Chic Retreat from Lucky Palms.

My recreation is very faithful to the original, but without TS3's Create-a-Style tool and it's limitless coloring, I was at the mercy of TS2 textures, and those of the 3t2 CC objects that were essential for this recreation. I couldn't quite match the medium wood tone in a way that made me happy, so I switched the doors and windows and garage to black. Boring, I know, but easiest to work with.

The layout is still very open, and the furniture choices are expensive and intentionally a little incoherent. The backyard should be where you have the most fun. I actually downsized the TS3 version (so much extra, empty space, the EA specialty). But even in doing so, I fit a large pool, grill, table, chess, bar, hot tub, and pool slide. This is truly the place to party in the summer.

Light CC included but the 3t2 objects are absolutely required for the lot to look the same. Comparison pictures to follow in another post!

Quite honestly I have to say that I actually really like Aang. Him being a happy-go-lucky, sweet kid is extremely important to the story, as bringing back a sense of fun to the people who have been experiencing war for so long is basically his narrative purpose. There's a purpose behind his personality, just as there should be in any narrative. However, I think anyone who engages critically with media has to aknowledge that he makes some bad decisions, especially when it comes to his treatment of Katara at the end of season three. Although I would personally argue that this is sexist writing and not congruent with the Aang we have seen for the entirety of the show leading up to DoBS (although people are also right when they point out the amount of emotional labor his position as the grand hero of the story and as a rather immature kiddo put on Katara), these are still mistakes that the character canonically makes. His treatment of Katara in previous seasons is still toxic behavior that I would argue is actually congruent with his character. The mistakes he makes throughout the series in other areas, such as hiding their father's location from Sokka and Katara, are canon decisions the character makes that are also definitely congruent with his character. But for whatever reason, a lot of the fandom refuses to recognize this. Most Aang/ Kat@ang stans put Aang on a pedestal and argue that nothing he's done throughout the series is exactly wrong. Nothing was wrong in his treatment of Katara, and if it is, he's naturally extremely sorry about it and should be forgiven despite the fact that we see no expression of guilt or remorse from him for, what I believe is the most glaring example, the EIP noncon kiss. So again, to restate, I don't hate Aang. I've never hated Aang. I like Aang. But unfortunately, because of the fandom representation of him, I have no interest in engaging in fan content about him. I have no interest in talking about the good things he does or the great decisions he makes outside of his decision not to kill Ozai, which, although greatly contested in the fandom, I completely agree with because of the narrative significance of Aang choosing to stick to his beliefs and the overarching theme of mercy, which we also see built up in many previous episodes such as TSR. Aang is the character that I would argue has been corrupted the most by the fandom. He's either viciously hated or hoisted into a position of perfection and frankly, I can deal with neither. Aang is a good character, but we should be able to have conversations critical of his actions. Aang is an extremely flawed and relatively underdeveloped character, but he is by no means evil incarnate, and I just wish that more people could recognize that both of those statements should and do coexist.
