best female villain tournament!
SEASON 2
RULES:
- Only submit the same character once
- Multiple submissions with different characters are fine!
- Matchups will be posted as soon as I have enough submissions and will include the most submitted characters
-Resubmissions are fine as long as they weren’t on the tourney last time
- Please be as detailed as possible
I had issues on my end with some technicalities and media’s. eg a lot of characters from the hatchetfield musicals by team starkid were just submitted as hatchetfield which made it harder to search for them to identify them and get pictures etc. If those and similar fandoms could be submitted with what musical etc they’re from that would be great :)
Those who sent submissions through my askbox will be getting submitted by me unless it was off anon(because you’ll be getting a notification)
Cool people/awareness tags:

favorite horror writers (in honor of spooky season)
Rachel Harrison (novels featuring strong female friendships/characters, werewolves, witches, demons, and humor)
Zoje Stage (creepy kids, haunted houses, psychological thrillers, mothers and daughters)
Katrina Monroe (ghosts, changelings, family curses, mothers and daughters, lesbian main characters)
Mike Flanagan (go watch his netflix stuff -- nuff said)
T. Kingfisher (cryptids, ghosts, spooky alternate dimensions, folklore-based, north carolina-set)
Jonathan Sims (The Magnus Archives, plus two novels featuring ghosts, monsters, death, friendship, general spooky vibes!!)
Stephen King (a cliche, i know, but i would die for the shining, pet sematary, and misery)
Grady Hendrix (very fun premises -- has written about demonic possession, ghosts, vampires, final girls, and selling souls to the devil)
T. Marie Vandelly (she has one haunted house novel and it is soooo good)
Jennifer McMahon (not all of her novels are horror, but all are fun... featuring ghosts, a haunted swimming pool, fairies, playing on frankenstein, the dead returning, family, and generally spooky vermont vibes!)
horror authors whose bibliography i haven't completed, but i've enjoyed their stuff and readily recommend
Stephen Graham Jones
Simone St. James
Paul Tremblay
Clay McLeod Chapman
Nat Cassidy
Joe Hill
Alma Katsu

Commute Radio Recap: Week Ten!
Since I'd finished all my music recs, I decided to branch out to some artists I either hadn't heard at all, or wanted to listen to more of - some from Tumblr, some inspired by the things I'd already been listening to lately.
Presidential's James Monroe episode. I...am not sure how much I retained (I gotta make better notes right after listening, not a week or two later), but it was interesting.
Artifexian: So the thing about this podcast is, episodes are on hour and a half long and there's no way to predict how much of it will have anything to do with the episode description. Sometimes the hosts spend a while talking about their lives, or other projects, or something. On the other hand, they're very pleasant to listen to, and when they do talk about stories and worldbuilding I'm always drawn in. So I like this one! I just have to be ready to keep my expectations a little in abeyance when starting an ep.
Art of Manliness: I still go back and forth on this one - not sure if they have a clear distinction between accidents and essence when it comes to their topic :P - but this ep was fine, and I'll listen to more.
Being Human: Continues to be interesting! I am along for the ride on anything concerning Catholic psychiatry, it's a genuinely important topic.
Close Reading: I love this one. Continues to be three highly intelligent people discussing Little Britches in chunks. Will be listening to their thoughts on other books whenever I reach the end of this one.
Maisie Peter's The Good Witch: Apologies to the mutuals and followers who love her, but my verdict on this one was that she is just not my vibe. I think I like her in small doses, but more as an element in a playlist than as a primary source of music, you know?
OTGW soundtrack: Re-listen, but 'tis the season! (This was literally on Halloween actually.) Love this one, always. I have Thoughts on some songs but not concise enough to put here.
Scythian's Roots and Stones, Old Tin Can, and Dance All Night: So Scythian is a "Celtic rock/Americana" band founded twenty years ago by a bunch of Christendom College graduates (I believe), and they're FUN if you want high-energy 19th-century folk and things derived from that sound. Lots of immigrant songs mixed with more modern ones. I'd listened to Dance All Night (a best-of album) before, but not the others. Hoping to get through their discography sooner or later.
And then I also relaxed my rules and did some relistens to old standby music, which doesn't get a spot here because I wasn't doing it for my Education or Cultural Enrichment. :P But I think continuing to line up albums to listen to for exploratory purposes is fun, and the best kind of listening for my commutes!

Spooky season is very much upon us, so here’s a freebie. I was planning on putting Ghosted out as a Halloween offer, but reasons, so in the meantime here’s a little spooky something I wrote back in twentysomething, maybe? Can’t remember when. I think it was one of those novels that fell into the pandemic time hole, which might account for some of its weirdness. The other thing that might account for the weirdness is that it’s about ghosts and witches and cults and things, all of which are dear to my heart for various reasons. The question I most get asked about Arcana is ‘why did you write an entire novel around Boston’s More Than a Feeling?’, and yeah – good question. I didn’t know the answer to that at the time, either. I mean, yes, I’m really into boomer dad-rock, but what of it? Don’t know.
Tumblr media
I always wanted to write something about a cult, ever since high school, where I had a married couple of Religious Studies teachers who were obsessed with cults, particularly the Moonies. They were both Christians, she a fierce feminist who had very little time for St. Paul, while he was famous for crucifying people in class. He had a human sized crucifix, presumably sourced from a kink dungeon somewhere, and would tie students to it for limited lengths of time as a practical lesson on the effects of crucifixion. Obviously every health and safety authority in the country told him to knock this off, and he stopped, although the crucifix remained and the legend lived on. I partly took Religious Studies because we all quietly hoped that one day sir would snap and crucify someone again.
The class was fun, and dovetailed nicely with my History modules on the English Reformation, but every now and again they’d slip in something about the Moonies, mainly about how to avoid them, and how to know when you were being recruited into a cult. I never asked, but I suspect they’d been entangled in one way or another, either as members or deprogrammers. Anyway, it was something that stuck in my head, at an age where the word ‘cult’ mostly meant Ian Astbury to me.
So where did Arcana come from, exactly? Well, partly there, and partly about a dozen or more different places. George Clooney writhing dorkily to Boston in The Men Who Stare at Goats gave me the central plank of the soundtrack, and one of several aliases for cult leader Starling – Marianne. Barbara Weisberg’s superb biography Talking to the Dead made me burn to include the Fox Sisters, the Britney and LiLo of the early spiritualist movement, tipsy child stars whose health and well-being was shamefully neglected (and often sabotaged) by adults who should have known better. Aimee Semple McPherson gave me clothes left on a beach, while Marilyn Monroe gave me a séance in Westwood Cemetery, and a punchline to the dirty joke Hugh Hefner made of her when he purchased the burial plot next to hers.
Jonestown gave me a birthdate for my main character – 18th November – while Googling songs with ‘follow’ in the lyrics gave me his name, Michael, via the Fleet Foxes White Winter Hymnal. Frank Zappa gets namechecked for Kosmic Debris, a number from Apostrophe, one of those batshit albums you cannot believe even exist when you discover them as a teenage stoner, and you never stop being delighted that they do. A jigsaw of a Van Gogh painting inspired a cold reading that might not have been nearly as frosty as it appears at first glance, while Carlos Castaneda and his wild desert bullshit gave me brujos, and an idea of which cactus parts you needed to trip enough balls to put you into the stratosphere. Salem Witches, Marjorie Cameron, Elizabeth Loftus, even Isambard Kingdom Brunel gets a look in. The more I look back at it the more I realise there is a lot in this book, perhaps too much, but it is – at its heart – still a love story.
It might also be the most me book I’ve ever written. For a long time I didn’t really do introspection. I lived mostly in fight or flight mode, filling the PTSD void with stuff – books and art, information, theories, and rational explanations. I bobbed around for a couple of years on the fringes of the Sceptic movement, and that’s kind of where I think the character of hyper-rational psychology professor Gus came from. The deeper I got with the Sceptics/Skeptics the more I realised they could be inflexible, even cult-like (and don’t even get me started on the misogyny within the movement) and the lack of self-awareness was absurd.
I also wrote this book from before I went to therapy, and I think in a way Gus’s journey almost prophesied my own transformation. Gus is what happens when you stop forcing yourself to think that everything that goes on in your head is purely chemical or evolutionary. Yes, that’s a component of it, but emotions are real. That sense you have that everything in a situation is maybe not exactly as it seems? Yeah. Run with that. Dig deep, and look around. Turns out it might be more than a feeling.

Thoughts on Teen Wolf the Movie while watching it (SPOILERS) pt.1
Before I even start let me say that they should've just made it another 12 or 10 or hell even an 8 episode mini series
Should've opened with Isaac instead of Liam and Hikari in Japan smh. He was the last one to have the triskele box, how tf did Liam get it? (I do understand that Daniel Sharman couldn't be in the film but still...at least give me an explanation)
I don't care what they say, Hikari was supposed to be Kira and Hikari wasn't supposed to even exist. Liam and Hikari are clearly what Scott & Kira Should've been, minus the restaurant in Japan, if they'd done the right thing and brought Kira back in the last season. He said he'd wait for her😭. (Though I Stan the actress for not coming back when they were going to pay her white female castmates more than her. Honestly fuck them for that)
Why does Liam own a restaurant in Japan. How did we get here in our lives. Liam u supposed to be protecting Beacon Hills. Also idk what career I though Liam would get but it definitely wouldn't have been restaurant owner. I can see him as a coach maybe (at Devonford Prep in honor of Brett; huh maybe I did know what career I thought he'd have🤔)
Damn y'all really keeping Nogi with teas and spices. Ig hiding it in plain sight works idk 🤷‍♀️
Why Liam fall like that 😭
Damn Nogi really reminding me of the Witch from Narnia when she appeared in that ice wall thing in the second movie
also if Nogi can talk through that thing, why hasn't he manipulate someone into setting him free already
Though that Nogi was like a regular fly, not a firefly...
Scott being call "The Alpha" like they'll never know🤫 also like I thought Monroe went international w/ her hunting. Ain't no way Scott's just chillin all carefree enough to put his name on a business.
Yeah Scott save that doggie...oh and the little grl too. Also this would've been better plot wise if this was a flashback of Scott saving a little Hikari, it would explain how she's randomly apart of the pack now
Love how Scott's animal clinic looks like a mixture of Deaton's vet place and Derek's loft
Scott talking about having kids one day was how I knew they'd give him Eli at the end. Like wtf, he should be raised by his family, by other born wolves who know about the werewolf history that Derek did. Like hello we got great uncle Peter, auntie Cora, and hell even cousin Malia. Derek WOULD NOT want his SON raised by an ARGENT!
"I didn't see it. I took my eyes off the road for like two seconds to change the song on my ipod"
Wooo spooky 👻
I said ah oop jump scare Chris "I never use the front door" Argent
Poor Chris no parent ever deserves their child to die before them
Bardo! and who stayed up all night doing research about Bardo for you, huh, Mr. McTruealphaman. KIRA!
Yes papa Argent, say fuck
Well Jeff Davis said he wanted the timeline to work out so that Eli was born before Derek returned to Beacon Hills in an interview (idk where it is and I'm too lazy to find it) and after the series finale timeskip in the last season it was 2017, its now 2026 so technically it's been 11 years Scott my boy
Look at me out here fixing the timeline for everyone😁
"I got a feeling the real answers are in Beacon Hills" Yeah no shit Chris, everything's gotta do with Beacon Hills
Scott your the alpha. Be the alpha. Quit asking other people to to decisions for you, for the love of God
So Scott I understand why you left Beacon Hills but are we going to address what happend to Monroe and the internatipnal hunters Corp? No?...okay then
Chris why did you leave mama McCall. Jeff u really out here breaking everyone up. Should've got w/ Papa Stilinski so Scott and Stiles could be brothers fr "oh what could've been"
Why the pack break up? not gonna give me an explanation again...okay I'm sensing a pattern here
Yeassss!!! Business woman Lydia, we knew u could do it. And she looks very snazzy in that white outfit with her ponytail if I do say so myself. Funny how the banshee's business has to do with sound lmao it's perfect.
Lyd!😭 Thats Mrs. Martin-Stilinski to you! Shit at least call her Lyds so that you don't sound like your calling her a lid💀
Damn u think Lydia would've learned to look at stuff by now before handing it out. Nah but on a real note I feel like she should have a better understanding of her abilities by now, and have expanded on them, and had more control of them but that might be just me
I SAID ITS MRS. MARTIN-STILINSKI Ray or whatever ur name is!
Oooo the automatic writing again
Yayyy Eli Hale! In my head Eli is a nickname for Elijah, just like Derek is a nickname Frederick (if you known you know🤣)
Hale Auto?! Ain't no way. Derek ain't a mechanic. I refuse. Terrible career choice for the man. He's rich, he ain't even gotta work
Maybe Malia could be a mechanic but I doubt it, ooo a Park Ranger would be perfect.
Love how Eli just hotwired that jeep😂. Oh and just let me say this here and get it out of my system. Eli is similar to both Stiles and Scott when they were younger but he is NOT STILES. Yes he's sarcastic and a little delinquent but do you guys know how many teenagers are sarcastic little delinquents? Alot. It's a teen thing. I was the same way (minus the crimes😂) and still am sarcastic af. Love Eli as Eli, not a mini or replacement for Stiles. Love u guys to death but we went into this knowing there was no Stiles.
Jeff Davis: No Stiles.
Us: No Stiles?
Jeff Davis: No Stiles!
Boys gonna pop a damn wheelie in fucking Roscoe
Love how Parrish just calls Mason instead of tailing him
I'm fucking dead💀they was all too scared to tell Derek (me too thou bc sourwolf is scary😶)
Why is Mason a deputy? Feel like he should be working at Lydia's, like he's right under her is what I'd say he should be doing. I could see Corey, his husband, maybe being a deputy though. *gasp* or a cute little school teacher🥺
I stand by what I said earlier, Malia should be a park ranger and I add to that by saying that she should be the consultant and not Derek (though i understand they had to reintroduce his character) she spent a lot of time in those woods, and she's more intune with her animal side than anyone else
Derek still sexy af
serial arsonist...wolf pack also has a serial arsonist. I swear to God they should've just made it a spin off instead of its own thing
You definitely should call Stiles, he's head of his own supernatural devison in the FBI👍
Love how Derek was like a fugitive for most of the series and now he works w/ the police. Eli taking up that criminal mantel now😂
I mean...is it really grand theft auto if he took it from his own dads shop🤷‍♀️🤣
Derek's got ptsd from the jeep
Eli wanted to race that grl, I now headcanon that's how he flirts. Just like his daddy he's like haha look I'm better than you at something "you wanna see some real speed bitch" (flashbacks to when Derek flirted with Paige by being an ass with that basketball, like grl just wanted to play her cello in peace and quite)
Love how Derek just like slashed the tires. Really said "i don't think so. My names Derek hale. I go way back" (I'm so sorry to anyone reading this)

Ranking Lana Del Rey’s covers
NOT the live performances (stage or radio etc.). This is also my opinion, and all subjective.
Cry Me A River
This doesn’t feel like a Lana song - usually Lana cleverly makes covers her own, whereas this takes the instrumental straight from the source and slaps Lana’s voice on top. She is wonderful, of course, but it feels nothing more than a personal experiment.
You’ll Never Walk Alone
Lana pulls this song off well but it just doesn’t feel like her song. It tends to drag and I think it could have benefitted from some extra instrumental. It feels very much like a bare bones cover rather than a passion project (for music, I know she donated to charity with this song) and I rarely listen to it.
Happy Birthday, Mr President
Lana encapsulates Marilyn Monroe beautifully and honours her with a tribute to one of her most memorable moments, but as it was tacked on to National Anthem it loses its power. If it had been a separate release in some way I think it could have shone more.
Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood
I’m not fond of this cover personally but Lana reshapes the track to fit with her voice and Honeymoon, and she does a good job of it.
For Free
It’s a lovely cover, and the other vocalists are wonderful. However, I always skip this song, uninterested by it (a subjective reason rather than objective). Lana does pick a good song for Chemtrails Over the Country Club, and the mixture of voices/female talent is feel-good.
The Good Life
A somewhat dreary yet heartstring-tugging song, The Good Life doesn’t feel complete or particularly strong compared to a lot of her other covers but it’s a decent job and gets me in the feels.
Chelsea Hotel No.2
It’s a slow track, with Lana’s drawling and rich vocals warm to listen to. I don’t tend to listen to this song much more out of personal taste. However, Lana owns this song beautifully and perfectly suits her Ultraviolence era - the moodiness, the seductiveness, the sadness.
Summertime The Gershwin Version
There’s a definite summer feel to this song, an uneasy instrumental with a light touch. It’s gentle and meandering, perfect to imagine a summer’s day to, and it would be great to hear more offbeat (in terms of vibe, not sound) songs like this from Lana.
Once Upon A Dream
This Gothic rendition of the classic Disney song certainly fits the darkened Princess story perfectly. Lana delves into villainous territory, her voice steady and almost warning as she uneasily vocalises and hums. However, I have to want to listen to this song and find the right mood to fit it.
Blue Velvet
Long, drawling and sprawling. Lana reminds of the film of the same name (which the song is heard in) and has the perfect Gothic-retro feel to make this vintage song timeless. I prefer to listen to other songs on The Paradise Edition, but Lana underlines her ability to go to different genres, eras and sounds whilst bringing her own personal touch to make it fresh.
Season of the Witch
This is perfect for Autumn: plucky, strange and bringing to mind a black-gowned witch causing havoc in her sixties neighbourhood. Lana gets the little vocal whispers and retro-feel perfect, and she emulates the right kind of personality for it.
Summer Wine
Lana is innocent, feminine and seductive in this tale of deceit and crime, and she uses all of her country-touched charms to bring the Western thief of the story to life. She matches Barrie James O’Neill’s deep twang perfectly, and they complement each other’s voices naturally. The music is also wonderful, as are her light-hearted vocalisations and her personality bled into it.
You Must Love Me
Lana is tender, raw and honest in this wide-eyed interpretation. There is a hopefulness to Lana’s voice, a gentle desire and a simplicity that lets Lana’s interpretation just enough from the original to bring something different. Lana isn’t the brash, glamorous lush she often acts as in her music (particularly her first few albums), but instead gold-hearted and soft.
Some Things Last a Long Time
This could be a Lana song. It suits her Ultraviolence era prettily, a barren, cold and dead-eyed gloom-song. Lana is subtle, heartbroken, yet strong and clear in her words. It’s a beautiful version, and deserves multiple listens to appreciate this often forgotten pearl.
The Other Woman
Lana takes the perspective of the quietly simmering and sad wife and flips it, pouring melodramatic grief into the character of the other woman who never has the man two women love. It is perfect for Ultraviolence, and the added record-playing effect to the sound sends you to another era entirely. It’s wailing, it’s pained and it’s bitter, easy to bring tears to the eyes.
Doin’ Time
This song sat happily on the charts and it’s easy to see why. It’s easy-going, breezy and certainly Lana’s own in this version. It’s a little bit different to her other music - one of her more bop-ish tracks, with hints of seductiveness, danger and eye-rolling insults. However, the dance-friendly music and the dollop of sunshine that radiates from this summer track is hypnotic.

Steven Universe, vegetarianism, and media representation [Part 2]
youtube
Reprinted from my History Hermann WordPress blog and also on Wayback Machine. Originally published on Jan. 2. 2020.
The focus on Steven's issues is continued in "Prickly Pair," where Steven uses his new hobby, planting, as a form of therapy, connecting with his love of nature and life (another reason he is vegetarian). The Gems see this as clearly unhealthy, as he is naming plants after his friends likely a reference to the "stress free environment" (see up to 1:04 in the video above) created by Billy Rosewood (played by Judge Reinhold) in Beverly Hills Cop 2, and give him space, as he thinks he can solve all these problems himself, bumping through his teen years.
This doesn't work out, ultimately, as he forms a cactus monster who he treated like a therapist, which hurts his friends (or guardians as you could call them), Amethyst, Garnet, and Pearl, not only physically but emotionally as the monster blurts out his personal feelings about them. While the cactus monster, which Amethyst names Cactus Steven, leaves his house, blowing off the front face of it, similar to the damage it sustained during the battle with Blue Diamond in "Reunited," Steven is clearly in emotionally (and mentally) rocky state by the end of the episode. You could even say that Steven and Cactus Steven represent part of the cycles of abuse. The absence of his father, Greg, his girlfriend, Connie (I hope they don't break up), and others, is disturbing enough, as the feeling he can't talk to anyone about problems, likely suffering from depression and other mental problems. [5]
"Little Graduation" and "Prickly Pair" sets up an interesting set of episodes ahead, even if you think SUF isn't "kid-friendly" anymore (as the fan base is growing up) as Steven will have to come to a more balanced state of mind and body (as he is acting a bit contradictory right now) working out his serious problems, making it possible for him to control his new powers, realizing that he should change, just as everyone else is changing, something he hasn't completely done yet. This would be much better than forcing others to not change, which is not healthy at all! Whether he talks the Diamonds about this (oh no) or his "uncle" Andy, or someone else about his problems is anyone's guess. [6] This is nothing new as he had similar struggles as shown in episodes like "Mindful Education," and other times before that, but the fact that he has the power to hurt others is scary, so I'm excited to see what future SUF episodes will bring. Perhaps Steven should take the advice he told Lars back in Season 5 to heart, although he may not.

Notes
[1] At the same time, however, the article listed racial stereotype Apu in The Simpsons, Bobby in King of the Hill, Velma Dinkley in Scooby-Doo, Draculaura in Monster High, Doug Funnie from Doug, Heffer in Rocko's Modern Life; Dil, Chuckie, and Susie in Rugrats, Pac-Man, Eliza Thornberry in The Wild Thornberrys, Popeye, as some of the greatest "vegan cartoon characters." So, he got Pearl wrong, but perhaps he got these others right.
[2] Allyson Koerner, for instance, lists Lisa along with Monroe in Grimm, Phoebe Buffay in Friends, Angela Martin in The Office, Sara Sidle in CSI, and Temperance Brennan in Bones. Others list Hazel Grace Lancaster in The Fault in Our Stars, Rachel Berry in Glee, Phoebe Buffay in Friends, Angela Martin in The Office, Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Britta Perry in Community, Phoebe Halliwell in Charmed, Topanga Lawrence in Boy Meets World, and Todd Ingram in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, alongside Lisa as vegan/vegetarian characters. Kristen Martin, on the other hand, notes five fictional vegetarians who "defy stereotypes" while Jamie Gerber explains various superheroes and villains who are vegetarian (Todd Ingram, Damian Wayne, Iron Fist, Connor Hawke, Bruce Banner, Magneto, Zatanna, Scarlet Witch, Superman, Kitty Pryde, Ozymandias, Beast Boy, Karolina Dean, Animal Man, and Wonder Woman).
[3] Some on My Anime List have claimed that Rei Ayanami in Evangelion, Taikoubou from Houshin Engi, herbivores in Monster Musume, a vegetarian elf in Isekai Shokudou, Nadia in Fushigi no Umi no Nadia, characters in Nichibros, Denpa Onna, Kemono Friends, Happy Happy Clover, Hamtaro, and Shirokuma Cafe, the latter three only if animal characters count, along with the Circumstances of a Vegetarian Child Wherewolf.
[4] Some fans adored Shep and loved the representation, while others didn't get their gender and thought Shep was transgender (there's no indication that is true), or hated Shep for some reason, the latter falling into the category of "annoying fans."
[5] I think its worth quoting the psychological analysis of Steven by one fan here, as it says more than I could put forward:
What is happening to Steven right now is a consequence of three situations: -Being a half gem. -Being adolescent. -Trying to carry the weight of other people problems in your back Why you ask? in adolescence, you try to wonder who you are, what you want to be in the future. And sometimes that bring negative emotions like angriness and confusion. Before Steven Universe Future, his reason to be was to be a hero, helping others. Now, that reason is partly gone because the worst part of the conflict is over, and even when he still wants to help people, he looks at the lifes of other humans and starts to wonder what else could be. Thats it because as a crystal gem, fighting and helping comes as something natural; and in the context of their long life spans this objective doesnt seems to change much. In the counterpart, humans tend to change life perspective more frequently because we live less, and our fragility doesnt makes us want to fight intergalactic conflicts (instead, we choose to share with others, get jobs, and try to enjoy life). In the initial part of the show, things seems "inverted" because humans gave Steven a sense of continuity ("i want this to stay the same"), and gems a sense of something that needs to be changed ("i want this to be different"). When we reach SUF, humans are changing and gems are remaining the same (mainly enemies), so Steven starts to be greatly frustrated. He doesnt wants to recognize this, clearly, because he is the person that "helps", not the one that needs to be helped (that would mean he is a burden to others). So, his emotions (anger and confussion, normal for adolescence) start to emerge as unstable powers, which causes a mayhem so big that Steven has to begin to recognize his emotions. PD: So...if you have superpowers and feel like this...go therapy.
[6] Some fans hope Steven lies on a bed at the end of the series and talks to a therapist, while others just say he needs "serious therapy."
Update:
I am so glad to get one positive comment on /r/stevenuniverse, which makes me smile. I am glad to see it.

BOOKS OF 2023
I'm so late posting this but I'm determined to get it done. These are some of the books I read/enjoyed in 2023. I still have a massive to-read pile so not all these books actually came out in 2023 (tho' most of them did)
I don’t tend to read that many novels/fiction – I think the only one I read this year was Queen K. by Sarah Thomas about a tutor to a rich oligarch’s family. Also got the books of the scripts for Succession Seasons 3 & 4.
I tend to read a lot of memoirs. This year I read ones by Paris Hilton (which was surprisingly good), Hadley Freeman (which also talks about anorexia in general), Michelle Tea (which talked about her experiences of pregnancy in the context of being a queer woman), Ava Cherry and the latest one by Boy George.
Also Anita Bhagwandas’ book Ugly which looks at various beauty standards and how they affect us all + I really liked it. Plus Grace Dent did a book based on her podcast called Comfort Eating which looks at the favourite comfort foods of various celebrities (including recipes) combined with a bit of her own memoir.
I got a new book on Marilyn Monroe by Richard Barrios which examines her acting roles and re-evaluates her as an actor.
Read Claire Dederer’s book, Monsters, which looks at how we respond to problematic artists/creators. It raised some really interesting questions and personally I don’t think there are any easy answers. Another interesting book I came across was Creative Not Famous: The Small Potato Manifesto by Ayun Halliday which I thought offered some really good advice.
I’m keen on history especially books that look at cultural/social history. I found this fascinating book called Queer Blues which looks at the early blues musicians who explored sexuality/gender. Also another book I really recommend is I Thought I Heard You Speak: Women at Factory Records by Audrey Golden – one thing I really liked about it was the range of women they spoke to, so not just musicians but the security staff and DJs from the Hacienda. Read We Peaked At Paper which was about the UK fanzine scene.
In terms of more general history I got David Mitchell’s book, Unruly, which is his personal take on the history of the British monarchy up to Elizabeth I with plenty of sarcasm and general observations of the concept of monarchy.
I love the format of oral histories in books. This year I read Reach For the Stars (about the pop stars of the late 90s/early 00s), Faster Than a Cannonball (looking at various aspects of the nineties), and Don’t F&&K It Up (about the first ten years of RuPaul’s Drag Race).
I also read a lot of books on music. This year I read two of the new releases on goth music/culture – The Art of Darkness by John Robb and Season of the Witch by Cathi Unsworth (which I preferred especially the book/film recommendations and the gothmothers/gothfathers sections).
Read Parachute Women by Elizabeth Winder which re-evaluates the legacy of some of the women linked with the Rolling Stones – (Anita Pallenberg, Marianne Faithfull, Bianca Jagger and Marsha Hunt). I felt like it concentrated more on Anita & Marianne and it would have been nice to expand the book to cover the likes of Jo Wood, Jerry Hall and Mandy Smith but overall I loved the book.
It also ties in with one of my other areas of interest, feminism. I read Toxic by Sarah Ditum which looks at how various female celebrities were treated by the popular media in the late 90s/early 00s such as Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse.

Cartoonverse Timeline
Major spoilers if you haven't watched Hilda, The Owl House, Infinity Train and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. This is a timeline concerning something I've made. And I will make changes to it by adding the things revealed in season 3 of Hilda. Which I think like I said, have changed things for the better with this timeline.
Especially it also changes whatever I had planned or...sadly with Hilda over. I can figure out things easier with some reveals. Yet I also worried that...I technically created my "MCU" with this.
Infinity Train Book 4: Duet. Ryan Akagi’s and Min-Gi Park’s journey on the train with Kez. The season where in the background, Amelia Hughes takes over the train. Taking place in what seems to be 1986.
For thirty-three years despite Amelia’s intentions to make the train better. Her selfishness gets the better of her and she inadvertently causes the birth of “The Apex” led by Grace Monroe and Simon Laurent.
Hilda season 1. Hilda and Johanna move to Trolberg. This season takes place throughout Late March/Early April to the end of June 1997 as Hilda gets used to living in Trolberg.
“An Owl Lady in Trolberg” the remake that is set after “The Black Hound” in Hilda and before “A Lying Witch and a Warden” in The Owl House. The first meeting between Johanna and Eda Clawthorne. Still taking place in 1997 in Trolberg.
The Owl House season 1 beings. When Luz Noceda enters the Boiling Isles and meets Eda and King. This is the beginning of Summer 2020 in the dimension of The Owl House.
For the next three months, Eda and Johanna start dating. And during this time, Eda and Hilda begin hanging out a few times. Such as Eda giving Hilda a ride on her staff.
“An Owl Lady’s Second Chance” by Rysenkari happens sometime during season 1 of The Owl House. Where Eda and Johanna engage in an interesting activity where they confess their love for each other.
Hilda season 2 begins with Erik Ahlberg taking over of the Safety Patrol and changing things in Trolberg for the worst.
But after “Chapter 3: The Witch” in Hilda season 2, the portal door is destroyed by Luz in “Young Blood, Old Souls” thus cutting off a way for Eda to go back to Trolberg to meet Johanna again.
The Owl House season 2 begins. And throughout season 2, things start changing for the worst with the Day of Unity approaching. Along with Eda reuniting with Raine Whispers despite thinking about her past with Johanna.
Yet because of Eda and Johanna interacting...something happened. That would affect later down this timeline.
“Yesterday’s Lie” takes place during the end of Summer in 2020 where Luz discovers that Vee had been pretending to be her. This is also when Camila discovers what actually happened to Luz.
Infinity Train Book 1: The Perennial Child. Tulip Olsen’s journey to the engine of the train with One-One and Atticus. And the end of Amelia’s thirty yearlong takeover of the train. This takes place in 2019.
Infinity Train Book 2: Cracked Reflection. MT’s/Lake’s journey to escape the train with Jesse Cosay and Alan Dracula. This also takes place in 2019 sometime after book 1 ends.
The Owl House “Kings Tide” happens. Resulting in Luz and her friends being stuck in the human realm while Eda, King and others are stuck in the demon realm of the Boiling Isles. This happens during the Mid-Fall of 2020.
In 2023 in a different dimension. Where superheroes and all sorts of things exist. “Moon Girl Landing” happens when Lunella Lafayette uses a teleporter that brings Devil Dinosaur into New York City. They later become superheroes with Lunella taking the name Moon Girl from one of her personal heroes. They have been superheroes for a few months. Having fought villains like Aftershock, Gravitas, the Muzzlers and others. Even with the Beyonder having watched Lunella and considering her the smartest human on Earth.
But before the events of "OMG Issues 1 & 2" happen. "A Shocking Return" happens. When Aftershock returns, Lunella and Devil ambush and kidnap her. But Lunella struggles what to do with Aftershock now. Despite Aftershock's extremely nasty comments and Lunella's heated discussions with her. Because of how kind Casey treated her, and even Lunella later on. Aftershock escapes but leaves without harming the two girls. Wondering what to do with her future.
After this, Lunella learns more about the original Moon Girl, who she was. And takes on Morlak and the Enclave. So, until season 2 airs, I am assuming Lunella will come back safely from that other dimension.
Infinity Train Book 3: Cult of the Conductor. Grace and Simon’s journey to return to the mall car and meeting Hazel and Tuba on the way. It is unknown which year this takes place in. But considering Amelia has been helping One-One for a while. It’s possible this could take place in 2020.
But in this world compared to the canon. Episodes 9 and 10 don’t happen in the same way. After Simon discovers Grace has been lying to him about Hazel. He makes the decision to kidnap Amelia and leave the others.
“The False Prophet” instead happens. Where Simon holds Amelia hostage to sacrifice her the next day. When Grace and Hazel return to the mall car, they are taken hostage as well. Similar events from “The Origami Car” and “The New Apex” happen, but in different ways. But it still ends with Grace and Simon fighting. The results are different this time where Simon is not killed by a Ghom, but saved by Grace instead. He runs away, horrified and confused by the situation.
Having endure almost 12 hours of being kidnapped, Amelia apologizes to Grace and Hazel for her comments. She leaves Hazel with Grace instead.
“Letting It Out” happens. A week after their terrifying ordeal, Grace and Hazel confide in each other as they express what they went through together.
Two days after that. "Maybe One Day" happens where Grace and Amelia catch up with each other, also talking about the ordeal they went through. Along with talking about the future, especially about Hazel's future.
“The Stone Forest” in the dimension of Hilda happens where Hilda, Johanna and Twig become trapped in the Stone Forest and surrounded by Trolls. After two days of being in there, they escape. But a day later, Hilda for some reason is replaced with Baba in bed.
Hilda and the Mountain King immediately happens. Hilda is transformed into a troll, trying to find her way to become a human again. While Johanna and others try to get her back. Meanwhile, Erik Ahlberg soon makes things worse as the tensions between humans and trolls increases as more trolls get closer to the city.
During the events, Hilda is reunited with Johanna. And soon afterwards, the Mountain King, Trundle makes himself a martyr as he is killed by Erik Ahlberg. Hoping that Amma, the mother and grandmother of all Trolls rises from below Trolberg to destroy the city. But it stops when Hilda is able to get Erik to stop what he is doing, saving the city in the process. And thus, creating peace between humans and Trolls as they are now allowed in the city one night a year. This takes place during early Spring 1998.
After months of not being able to return, “Thanks To Them”, “For The Future” and “Watching and Dreaming” happen in The Owl House. Luz and others are able to return back to the Boiling Isles and save everybody. A string of events happens in what appears to be maybe THREE DAYS...the last day being on Halloween Night.
But a day before Luz and the others returned to the Boiling Isles. "An Owl Lady's Confession" takes place where Eda finally confesses the truth about her relationship with Johanna to her ex, Raine Whispers. Who is sadly a puppet at that time.
All of this, "Thanks To Them, "For The Future" and "Watching and Dreaming" takes place during "The Stone Forest" and Hilda and the Mountain King. With "The False Prophet" happening before them and leading into "Letting It Out" and "Maybe One Day". Those last two are taking place during the events in Hilda and The Owl House.
With Belos killed and everyone safe. A week after that, a new portal to the human realm is made. And thus, after months of not seeing each other. Eda is able to return to Trolberg and meet with Johanna again. With Johanna...reacting to what Eda tells her about with...an interesting reaction. Including with Raine finally meeting Johanna for the first time.
Sometime after Eda and others travel to Trolberg as the reconstruction of the Boiling Isles happens. Along with Trolberg becoming a better place again. A glitch happens on the Infinity Train.
