I recently attended a birthday party for a 5 year old, and I was struck by how polite she is. And how it goes beyond just saying please and thank you.

I spend time with her family fairly often, so we are freely affectionate about hugging each other. But with new people, she always asks if they want a hug first.

She asked me "Can I tickle you?" and was super chill when when I said no.

I was wearing a sparkly necklace that I could tell she was interested in, so I asked her if she wanted to see it. And when she said yes, rather than reaching for my cleavage (where it was dangling) she let me hand it to her and held it so gently without yanking the chain.

Her parents are doing such a good job teaching her about consent and personal boundaries and I'm just like "How is this 5 year old more considerate than most of my adult relatives?"

Redraw time! Nearly a decade between these.

The first one is the first art I posted on the internet, as soon as my parents let me make a deviantart account. I was thirteen and used to draw this kind of thing a lot.

The second I drew last night at 2am because I wanted to make 13yr old me happy and also i got possessed by the sleepy art demon.
