People are always up lucien’s ass for this line and for comparing elain to jesminda but like…no shit he’s gonna be comparing them 😭—the female he thought was his mate and his actual mate.Lucien genuinely believed him and jesminda were mates and she died with him thinking that.It’s only natural now that he’s found his real mate his mind would wander back to jesminda and he’d subconsciously compare the two.Lucien did not think anything negative about elain he was merely making an observation on how different she is than who he’d expected to be his mate(jesminda).

People also twist this line in a million different ways.Lucien was thinking back on how him and jesminda had this epic love story where she had seduced him and teased him and chosen him in every way there was.He had then spent centuries believing his “mate” was dead so elain had been thrown at him.Thrown at him as in he never expected to find his mate because he thought his mate was DEAD.The mating bond snapping was just as shocking for lucien as it was for elain.So just like elain,lucien is allowed to be confused and uncertain about their mating bond especially in this scene where he was literally meeting her for the first time.This is not proof lucien doesn’t want elain or that he resents the mating bond,it’s literally just him thinking and making keen observations regarding their situation.Stop twisting my man’s words 🗣️.

It's still captivating to me how potent Elain and Lucien's bond scent remains, even though they barely interacted throughout the entire evening. Only Lucien looked at Elain with longing as she opened his present, while she avoided his gaze. The fact that it made Azriel physically sick and want to leave if it became overwhelming for him speaks volumes about the intensity of their connection.

If it affected him so strongly, one can only imagine the impact it must have on Elain and Lucien, who are directly entwined in it.

SJM doesn’t NEED 30 books of “build up” for her love stories to be great. The fact some people point this out as an argument for why Gwyn and Azriel can’t be a thing shows that you haven’t read ALL of Sarah’s book.

For those who haven’t read Throne of Glass allow me to introduce you to not just one but TWO couples featured in this book that had ZERO interaction prior to Tower of Dawn. Chaol Westfield and his WIFE Yrene Westfall (Towers) and Nesyrn Faliq and Prince Sartaq.

Neither of these couples were aware of each other prior to this book, two of these characters had very little to no pages time prior to this book too. So your excuse that Sarah can’t write Gwyn and Azriel and make it a good story because there was no previous build up doesn’t fly because Tower of Dawn was a good book and the amount of people that love both these couples prove you so very wrong.

Plus Sarah’s books are almost 1000 pages long sometimes. So you’re telling me that a romance novel with 200-300 pages, that y’all like to say we’ve NEVER read 🙄, will make yall swoon when strangers get together but not Azriel and Gwyn with more the double those pages. Give me a break 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

Lucien has been saying "thank the mother" or "the mother" far longer than anyone and Elain prayed to the mother in ACOSF to save Feyre.

Az ONLY started saying thank the mother or mother in SF.

And Az said he only showed up to Solstice bc it would upset Rhys if he didn't. Solstice is a religious holiday.

Meanwhile Lucien brought gifts because it’s a Solstice tradition.

Elain was the one who told Feyre to respect the holiday and what it meant to people.

They are a religious pairing.

While I think Gwynriel will cover the religious ceremonies, Elain and Lucien will cover an actual connection to the land and the Mother much like Nesta’s, but moreso because Elain is the Cauldron’s favorite.
