The Emperor-Verse: RWBY: Saints of Remnant, a reimagined AU(More details in Keep Reading!)

Once there was a world by the name of Omnibus. Created by the supreme deity The Author Allfather through the mysterious entity The Storyteller, this world was composed of four holy and mighty kingdoms, ruled by The Author’s Patron Saints whose reign protected the people, human and faunus alike, with their mighty armies, hunters, and their own holy powers from barbarian hordes, and the hordes of The Grimm who were the incarnations of hatred of the fallen seraph Grimmel The Black and his fellow fallen angels

In the dreadful world-shattering war of Ragnarök, the glorious age of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty, and the days of Romance, Heroism Adventure, and Eucatastrophe came to a tragic end.

Now all that remains is the world that is Remnant

But there is a prophecy made by Ozma The First Time Wizard before his death at the hands of The Witch-Emperor, that one day the bloodlines of the original Patron Saints and the families betrothed to them will return to take up these powers, rally armies of the righteous, vanquish the darkness and restore the holy kingdoms and Omnibus and reign over them once more.

Sinners will become Saints

Legends shall be restored and new Legends will be born

And what was a Remnant, Shall Be Whole Again.

But until then, the Hunters lead a struggling battle against the Grimm while the modern kingdoms suffer under corruption of all kinds, both to the benefit of darker forces who have horrifying intentions for the world.

Cue Ruby Rose and her older half-sister Yang Xiao Long, they are about to enter Beacon Academy after being approved by the eccentric Professor Ozpin Pine along with the heiress Weiss Schnee and the introverted faunus Blake Belladonna forming team RWBY

Ozpin has also enrolled a few other students and transferred others.

The former forming team JNPR, and the latter being Team SSSN of Haven Academy

Ozpin seems to have his eye on all of them, but what for?

Heavily inspired by CS Lewis's series The Chronicles of Narnia

Also will contain unorthodox reimagining such as Adam Taurus(He's an initial antagonist turned good) and the White Fang and Jacques Schnee and the SDC with their Canon!Counterparts replaced with substitutes among other things

Details of the Emperor-Verse

Now I'm sure there's some questions you probably are all asking which I assume are the same questions as my blog

“Why are you using your Religion?”

Mostly due to it being a strong foundation, notably theology, for most of my stories, there are many strong foundations of storytelling, religion, history, you can even fantasize science if you put the imagination, time, and effort into it.

After doing some soul searching and listening to the Narnia books on Audible, it became another important element in making this au and I might include elements of CS Lewis’ Space Trilogy

This AU is set in my fictional Multiverse The Emperor-Verse which Narnia is implied to exist in, or I should say had existed in(its set after The Last Battle)

“Isn’t this kind of entitled and disrespectful?”

Disagreement isn’t necessarily malicious, and entitlement is not inherently bad if its your opinions and subjective feelings which people are entitled to.

Tolkien was heavily inspired by his distaste for how Shakespeare handled certain concepts, such as the Ents when he was upset and dissatisfied that there were no walking talking trees in the Enchanted Fortest of Macbeth, and the Valar Aule the Smith and the origin of the Dwarves make him something of an Anti-Prometheus

Not to mention Philip Pullman, the author of His Dark Materials Trilogy, made it out his distaste how CS Lewis made the Chronicles of Narnia and his overall beef with Christianity, and nobody seems to take issue with that.

I’m not saying the direction RWBY went with V3 or Pyrrha and the rest of the cast potentially ending tragically in some way or another is objectively bad, it was just not my taste

And I am not saying every normal RWBY fan/RWDE person who liked it is an elitist about it nor are all of them trying to insult me and attack me personally or say my ideas are bad

Nor I’m not trying to change canon or its “trajectory” , nor am I doing this to spite Monty, especially when I never knew the guy. This is a difference in handling ideas and concepts.

I’m doing my RWBY AU, which will most likely be revamped into an original story since it takes a whole different directions with the characters and world, but it's mostly because with post V3 and now in retrospect I saw what this world, characters, ships and other ideas could have been all in a story I believe is worth telling. And I was disappointed that it wasn’t.

I mean yeah it's also due to personal tastes and preferences and subjective feelings, at least I’ve been told, but I also try to integrate that in a meaningful way.

So I hope you all enjoy what I have to offer, which will most likely be put on AO3 and FanFiction.Net, and who knows, I might get a few artists to commission to redesign some characters or illustrate some scenes if anyone is up for it.

RWBY Saints of Remnant Notes: Should the SDC and Jacques be bad guys? Or one of the few Good Guys amongst corruption in Atlas?

DISCLAIMER: This post contains is a radically reimagined Jacques Schnee and SDC in a positive light in a heavily reimagined RWBY AU and has cliche tropes such as "dead mom" which I intend to complement with as "dead dad" of another family, if Canon Jack and SDC has given you a permanent bad taste in your mouth along with Canon Adam Taurus, I understand, this is an AU, just please do not come in with bad faith and ignore me instead.

Said AU is connected to The Emperor-Verse

I'm writing down notes and my gut just wants to make Jacques redeemable, but given how much damaged he has done to others, both his family and an entire people, that seems to heavy of a task without him ending up dead. But that was when I rebooted it by the end of V3.

But making this a hard reboot from the beginning then it hit me, and you do not have to agree with this at all...

What if instead of the SDC and Mr. Schnee being part of Atlasian corruption...

They along with James and the Atlas Military/Academy are the only few good individuals and institutions in Atlas, and both are paying the price for it from their upper class peers?

What if instead of Jacques being this opportunistic conman, he is Nicholas' biological son, and a former huntsmen in his youth who was on the same team as James Ironwood who served as his leader and who Weiss and Winter fondly call “Uncle Jim”, basically to them what Qrow is to Yang and Ruby

Jacques stuck to his father's principles and has managed to uphold The Schnee Dust Company as one of the few ethical businesses in regards to the Faunus, as well as providing support to other ethical businesses in the northern kingdom, mostly forming genuine friendships with their owners, and refused to outsource labor and resources when everyone else in Atlas did.

But as a result, James and Jacques are being ganged up on left and right by the upper class.

The only reason the Atlas establishment has tolerated Jack and his company for so long because the Kingdom was heavily dependent on them along with other companies for Dust and other goods and products, until recently with a growing unethical conglomerate run by Dr. Gray(Watts) with his mega-corporation GigaWatts Incorporated(Think OCP from Robocop and Lexcorp from DC), and plans on getting rid of the SDC and becoming the kingdoms new source of manufactured goods, tech, and labor, including dust mining and GWI is known for unethical use for Faunus labor in both the mines and factories.

Though I might just toss the Faunus Racism thing given how much of a mess it is and rework the WF for something else and have Atlas Upper Class replacing well-paying jobs with robots to keep the lower classes underpaid, or I could try something with both, need input on that.

Buy anyway, The SDC used to be big, but not in a megacorporation way. The SDC was one of the top four successful companies in Remnant back in the day(because 4 is the magic number in RWBY), and as I said before, Jack had made partnerships with other businesses both in his homeland and a few in other kingdoms during trips with his family, but its very few and Jack had made genuine friendships with the owners. He never stripped the human element out of his business.

You could say GWI is a large-scale "Evil Queen" figure

While the SDC is a large-scale "Snow White" figure, in more ways than one, but that's once again another story for another day.

Now GWI is overshadowing them at an accelerated rate with hundreds of Atlasian corporate companies joining it in exchange for Watt’s technology as well as Atlas Military’s higher ups hiring Watts to develop their military technology and last but not least outsourcing Dust Mining to the likes of Vaccou and Jacques and James are the only few who suspect Watts’ whole campaign being a “snake oil” tactic for something insidious as Arthur has all of the upper class eating out of the palm of his hand.

Meanwhile the likes of the White Fang and other kingdoms see Jack, SDC, James and The Atlas Military as just a bunch of rich pricks due to being part of the upper class(millionaires though, not billionaires, and even that’s dwindling now), seeing Jack and Jim as "one of them"

and understandably so mind you, given the rest of Atlas’ actions, but also because the current leader Rina Kumokage is lumping them in deliberately to distract the other members and branches(North, West, and South to be exact) of her own selfish and twisted intentions for the White Fang among other things

Though the White Fang itself seems to be in the hands of corrupt individuals in their neck of the woods. With the likes of Blake and Adam seeking to root it out, Adam being a little too aggressive in his means while Blake seeks outside help, which has strained their brother-sister relationship.

Spoiler alert, the corruption of The White Fang is not from Adam but a new character, Adam isn't the bad guy or a psychopath.

In this AU Adam is more like a cross between Fall of Cybertron Grimlock and Zuko, but he's another post for another day.

But anyway, the persecution of the SDC by the rest of the Atlasian upper class has gotten so bad, radical anti-Faunus militia Kriegsratten Korps aka “The Rats”(they allude to the Rats in The Nutcracker and mixed with Wolfenstein Nazis) and most likely be members of the Atlas Military throughout the ranks supplied with tech from GWI even secretly supported the corrupt council and big business, start attacking the SDC mines killing Schnee family members for being “faunus lickers”, one of them being Jack’s wife Anastasia(both alluding to the Russian Princess, and Snegurochka a Russian fairy tale character) while James struggles to provide the mines and family security while being undermined by higher-ups. 

Yes I know dead mom is cliche but I plan on complementing(is that the right word?) it with Blake losing her own father Ghira and leaving her mother, Noire(aka Kali), widowed. And I have a reason for that later on down the road.

Also Jacques isn't a monster, he just isn't a perfect parent and seems cold on the surface, but its mostly due the burden he bares of being a single parent, and upholding a noble family legacy, giving Faunus descent and honest work, and holding out with other businesses he’s made partnerships with. Their something of a resistance group against GWI.

All with countless of peers trying to sabotage him and James to the point its claimed his family and lover, all of which is straining his relationship with his daughters and his former teammates, James in particular. Plus losing his father at an early age and the board of directors forcing him to become CEO caused him to develop anxiety issues with only his mother and girlfriend and later on wife and children keeping him sane.

James and Jacques together allude to “Atlas” with a great burden weighing down on their shoulders they struggle to hold it up

He's a bit too harsh on Weiss with her huntress training(ie the White Trailer) but in order to defend herself against assassins, and sends her off to Vale in hopes she would be safer there(relatively speaking.) 

But the way he does it comes off to Weiss as her father not caring about her other than making her a trophy for his own reputation and being out of his way otherwise, and HOO-BOY don't get me started with how pissed Winter is with him.

Like I said, if all of this you can't vibe with because its supposed to be Jacques and Canon Jacques along with Canon Adam has put a permanent bad taste in your mouth, thats fine, I feel the same about other characters in other stories. No judgement.

I plan on making a post to dive deeper into Jack, but I will say he's primarily Jack Frost, but his secondary allusion to "The Nutcracker"

I'm also recycling this concept for my own original works, not sure what exactly, but something.

I know if I ever write out and post my RWBY rewrite verse, I'm going to lose a lot of people for the narrative decisions I'm making, but I don't think any of them are going to lose as many people as Weiss.

I'm knocking Weiss up in V3. It'll be a story tagged Teen Pregnancy. Now, hang on, listen to my reasoning.

So for me, so much of Weiss' character is tied into her own feelings of isolation and a lack of family. And while the found family of Team RWBY is incredible and super important, I also think a lot about how Weiss lost her childhood. Now, Sun and Neptune - who are her romantic partners in this, it's a triad - and Ruby really help Weiss embrace her more silly side. So does Nora.

But for Weiss, a lot of what's going on in her head is the fear of turning out like her parents - like a father who wants to squash everything not in his picture perfect plan, like a mother who checked out to keep herself alive.

And they'd be Sun's. Because I write Neptune as an intersex trans man. And the way I write aura, they'd take on some of Neptune's appearance.

They, because twins.

And faunus kids. A Schnee having faunus kids. Openly loving a faunus. Weiss balancing family and saving the world and herself and her team and her friends. Children raised in a village. Just because you're born in a war doesn't mean that has to be the first thing you know. Or the second. Or even the hundredth.

Children that Weiss stares down at and realizes - she wants the rest of her family back. And she's always prioritized the company, saving the SDC, over saving the people, just like Willow. Just like everyone else. And she's done. Who gives a damn about this company if she doesn't have the people she loves?

She can rebuild the SDC from fucking scratch. She's Weiss fucking Schnee.

Weiss struggling to hide a pregnancy from her father in the time after Beacon, after she knows. The loss of autonomy and freedom being intertwined with bodily rights. A ticking clock because if Weiss gives birth to a faunus she's fairly certain her father will make sure neither her or the baby gets back to the manor.

She's not just her pregnancy. She's Weiss. She's snarky and sassy and intelligent and overeager and she cares so fucking deeply but doesn't always know how to show it, and she's gotta keep up some prickles because that's who she is. She focuses on logistics and widespread organization, because that's what she trained for to take over the SDC. She's Ruby's second-in-command, Ruby's partner, Ruby's BFF.

She's also the most versatile and terrifying fighter in RWBY and becoming a mother amps her semblance up so far that the rest of Team RWBY takes a very long time to catch up. She's got more glyphs than sense and a protective streak a mile wide.

She goes from teasing Sun and Neptune to talking strategy with Ruby to cooing over her babies, all while in the midst of organizing documents in the war room.

And she, with help, is slowly breaking the cycle of what she went through, and ensuring that she's always trying to be the best person she can be.

Weiss is a character I feel would genuinely feel empowered upon becoming a mother. And I feel that a pregnancy, done correctly, and the subsequent children could genuinely enrich her existing character arc of finding strength in herself, finding faith and love in her friends, and all that.

Anyway, yeah. Controversial topics in fanfiction. But that's my plan. If you don't like it, this isn't the fic for you.

So I was thinking about RWBY, and I was wondering what would be your take on RWBY's theme being Altruism?

Team RWBY and JNOR about altruism in the face of despair and loss.

While Ironwood, Adam, and Roman are all about being self-serving or cruel, often trying to justify their actions based on "moral grayness"

I think that's why so many Rewrites fail!

Because Jaune fanfic writers, Roman Fanfic Writers, and Adam fanfic writers are so obsessed with the idea of Moral Grayness and punishing idealism, they fail to grasp the key aspects of RWBY which involves idealism, hope, taking risks, and altruism.

But yeah, what do you think?

Honestly, nothing you haven't already said! a lot of people don't (or refuse to) understand that altruism is the theme of RWBY, and how much it matters to the story, how much it's at the center of it.

That's honestly a reason why it miffs me so much to see those people obsessed with making RWBY darker and edgy, they're all missing the point, inentionally or otherwise. Because it already can be dark, but it isn't cynical nor does it punish idealism like you said, it's idelistic and it lets hope exist, and it lets it flourish even if things don't always go well.

So, yeah! I agree with you.

Sometimes. I am notorious for putting things on the backburner and then promptly forgetting about them until five years later.

I think that belongs to when the world stops spinning. Which it will retain because the rewrite is not changing that ending.

hmm. of what’s been posted so far that would be let the butterflies cry because OT3 is always the best solution to a love triangle.

Eh, not really. There is a rwby/loz crossover that’s been stewing in the back of my mind since botw came out, but I’m not sure I’ll ever actually write it.

My good dude, I have been writing across multiple platforms for over a decade. Yes.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Rarely. Very, very rarely. And as for what kind? I’ve written a bit of everything.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yup. There’s a reason certain older fics of mine are no longer available.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

Once. Someone translated one of the aforementioned now unavailable works into...I think it was Korean? It was a very long time ago and actually done without my consent, but they did correctly credit me as the author, so.

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

@hermiowngranger. one day we should revist that ‘verse and see about not fixing it to the point it no longer works.

What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Why would you do this to me. I know looking at my works you’d probably think Zutara, but listen. Before there was Zutara, there was InuKag and it is frankly embarrassing that it took a global pandemic years and years after the manga ended to get me to really sit down and write anything for it.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

Probably all that was me is gone, one of the collab fics with @hermiowngranger, because we wrote ourselves into a corner that was less of a corner and more of a sinkhole that rendered the entire plot impossible.

What are your writing strengths?

Worldbuilding. Give me the space and I will go into detail about everything from the climate to the economy and how that impacts how the characters interact with their world.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Finishing things. Also romance. If not for @hermiowngranger being a screaming romance goblin who checks my work, I probably wouldn’t write romance at all.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Really just depends on how it’s handled and the context in which it is used.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Oh lordy. I think naruto was the first I posted for, though most of those works are no longer available. But the first fandom I really wrote for? LotR. I was 9 and angry because it felt like I’d gotten through all the books just to find a “no girls allowed” sign and spite fuels most of my fic, so LotR but everyone is ladies was the very first thing I ever did and none of you will ever see that work. 

What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

eir’asha. It’s probably the only purely self-indulgent thing I’ve ever written and it’s not my best, but I love Nerry so much and there is actually a follow up lurking somewhere on my computer.

right lads this blog is a multi with 10 muses and each of them have at least like, two or three ships that i’m already writing with folk and infinitely more that i would like to, or would be up for exploring. in some cases, i’m willing to write the same ship with multiple people, in other cases i’m not. thats what this page is for! it’s also not an extensive list, so as long as an idea isn’t listed as an absolute no, consider me up for discussion. i don’t expect this to be read by everyone, but do give the relevant info a glance if you’d like to ship with one of my kids. 

WHEN I SAY EXCLUSIVE: i do not mean that i consider myself exclusives with that rper. i’m not fond of applying exclusives to my blog. what i mean is that i personally will not pursue that ship with another rper of that character. usually due to lack of interest, attachment to one iteration, or to stop myself from being overwhelmed. my partner is free to do as they like and i don’t expect them to consider me their exclusive.

If you're planning to make the Schnees much less wealthy (as in no longer billionaires) then making Jacques a good guy could be interesting, but if he's a billionaire he by definition cannot be a good guy

The Schnees in this AU along the 3 other top companies in Atlas even back in their heyday wouldn’t be what I would call “Billionaires”, I’m not sue what level of wealthy I would call them. Definitely enough that they made their fame during the Northern equivalent of America’s Gilded Age and last for a good long 75 years

Jaune’s Magic Hands

So it’s after 3am, I’m not asleep, and I wanna talk about a scene in RWBY along with other ways it could have gone.

Now this bit here in Volume 5 was clearly meant as one of the BIG moments for the end of the Volume. Some would say it left fans divided, to say the least. Though everything involving Jaune divides people. He’s that character you either hate as an embodiment of all of Miles Luna’s sins or love so much you write him as romancing everyone after transforming into the Uber Harem Protag. Personally, I’ve hovered probably near both those places but overall feel Jaune has more of a weakness in execution than in concept. How hyperbolically I express this opinion can also vary.

Still, let me say right now I’m ok with his power being healing. Seriously I am. He for one seems to be meant to fill a paladin archetype when at his better moments. As well he is based on Joan of Arc who claimed to have visions and be driven by figures from the Christian religion. Jesus himself was said to have the power to heal and you can find probably hundreds of evangelical preachers who claim to have the same power. So in concept, it is fine. Instead, it might help to examine why the execution might be the issue.

First, let’s look at who he is healing. Now a lot of people don’t like that he is healing Weiss. A good number for one think it was ship pandering by giving him a moment where he *saves* her and looks all dashing.

Mind plenty of people have hated WeissXJaune since Volume 2 where many felt he was a bit too *persistent* with his attempts to get a date from her. Now that kind of interaction between two protagonists isn’t a new trope but maybe it wasn’t as well handled in Volume 2 or maybe a shift in cultural perception makes Jaune’s actions look less ok to the modern audience.

Now do I think it was done in the way it was to be ship bait?

I dunno maybe. On the one hand, not every character interaction in a show is meant to imply shipping by the author and that should be acknowledged. On the other hand, those working on RWBY have shown to be not only very aware of the shipping within the fandom but also more willing to actively fan those flames. I mean how many songs on the soundtracks alone are being attributed to some BlakeX??? ship or another? So turning on safe mode let’s say in a prospective alternate take Weiss isn’t the one that is injured.

Moving on to what is probably the other point of contention, that being who is causing the injury. In this case Cinder Fall. Now I doubt anyone is saying Cinder isn’t strong enough to wound Weiss especially while the latter is currently probably expanding a lot of aura with constant summon attempts. It is more an issue because of how Cinder’s character has somewhat flip-flopped between Volume 4 and 5.

In Volume 4 we are given glimpses of a much different kind of character for Cinder. From the somewhat generic blob of sexy female villain seen before into a person broken physically and most likely mentally.

I mean she had her personal telepath apparently find out what current outfit the person who did so much damage to her was in to keep her sessions of having the image of that person projected into her mind and then burned alive up to date. Well, that or the creators didn't want to take the time to bother with a model based on Volume 1-3 Ruby for that scene but I’m trying to give more benefit of the doubt this post and attribute it to a character thing. Still, the point is that it’s pretty massive hate on she has for Ruby.

Come Volume 5 people felt she had devolved back into her old ways. Now for one of the scenes, we could give the benefit of the doubt. She was meeting with Raven maybe it was just an act she was putting on of pretending to be like her old self for the sake of the task she was given. Yet when we get to the Haven fight instead of focusing on the person she apparently hates she instead focuses on fucking with Jaune while her sidekicks fight Ruby. Which for fans that both like and despise Cinder stings more because Raven probably killed her off at the end there. Meaning any set up for an interesting revenge arc may have died with her.

So let us also include that the injured party can’t become that way via a Cinder who wants to mess with Jaune.

That leaves us with the core of “Jaune discovers his healing semblance when another character is in grave danger”. Finally, I’ll show some possibilities for that I thought up on my own and maybe you’d like to share your own.

1. We roll back the rock to Volume 4 and have Jaune discover his semblance to heal Qrow during the Nuckleave fight. Hey in this idea both JNPR boys get a semblance reveal this volume. Also honestly I don’t think many people like Jaune’s weapon “upgrade” so we can replace the reveal of that with his healing power. Also, I admit to being one of those that felt like with the set up the Nuckleave received being defeated by just RNJR felt a little dumb. Yet this could remedy that a bit. I mean from how I was reading it Qrow is presented not just as an experienced hunter but as supposed to be in the higher power level tier for hunters. So the idea that he could turn the tide against a powerful Grimm like the Nuckleave was presented as is more believable with what we’ve been presented of the universe.

2. Ruby is injured by Cinder. Now Ruby and Jaune were the respective first friend they made at Beacon so Jaune unlocking his semblance to save her can still hold some weight. Also keeps that it is a character with a high power level in this verse like Cinder being the one able to cause such a mortal wound in that fight. This can maintain the no Cinder trying to fuck with Jaune clause too. Instead when the bad guys come in Cinder pretty much sees red and goes right after Ruby. Just knocking her around and maybe through in some lines taunting her to bring out the Silver Eye power. Which Ruby seems unable too and as such she doesn’t have the power to destroy Cinder like last time. After that Cinder could then go off again to have the Raven fight because she thinks Ruby is dead and we get the healing scene again.

3. Nora or Ren is injured fighting Hazel. Hey, we can use this as an opportunity to show Hazel as a major threat by having him almost take out one of the main cast for one. For another Nora and Ren are Jaune’s team so this makes it a moment between the three surviving members of JNPR. Still does leave a bit of figuring out how a separate Ruby VS Cinder fight goes but this is just the skeleton of an idea.

Anyways those are three that I had in mind right now. Not 100% and in some places require rewriting more of Volume 5 sure but it was still a nice bit of brain exercise and hey maybe the discussion about the elements of the scene people had problems with or these ideas go your brain working too.
