Angel (Mugler, 1992)

(The Secrets Behind Thierry Mugler’s Iconic Angel Ad Campaigns: Jerry Hall, Amy Wesson, Anna Maria Cseh, Bianca Balti, Naomi Watts, Eva Mendes)

I had wanted to write about Mugler's Angel (1992) for a while now. I hadn't tried it before, but I love gourmands, after all, and Angel is a groundbreaking one. My mom briefly smelled a sample of it and wanted a bottle for Christmas one year (the same year that she gave me Hypnotic Poison), so I am actually working with a full bottle, never opened, maybe two years old; not a decant that came to me on a hot mail truck. Ideal testing conditions.

I can't smell the gourmand part.

I think that maybe this particular bottle is cursed. You see, the reason it's never been opened is that my mom came down with covid shortly after I bought it, and she's had anosmia ever since. Yeah: for more than two and a half years now, she has been, she is still, unable to taste or smell anything. But she really, really wanted me to review Angel, so it's in my possession now.

Here in the writeups I've done, there have been notes I haven't been able to smell now and then, but I haven't had coronovirus anosmia per se. I've dealt with long covid flare-ups, yes, but no olfactory issues. So I tried Angel five or six times over two weeks, giving my nose time to reset in between. I wrestled with it. On me, it opens with a blast of particularly melon-y fruit, and then, within minutes, the Werewolf Patchouli, The Funk, comes out. Angel is famously the first "fruitchouli," so I knew that would be involved, but—if I thought the harsh patchouli that bursts out of Coco Mademoiselle (2001) was incongruous, well, Angel is clearly where Chanel got the idea from. But before we go any further, let me walk you through some of the official description:

Angel is the fragrance of a woman who dares to live up her dreams with her blue star as her guide. Confident and seductive, she fascinates those who cross her path. Between power and pleasure, she uses her ultra-femininity as a signature. Between heaven and earth, she makes her dreams a reality. Angel Eau de Parfum is the first Gourmand perfume in the world of fragrance.

POINTS:

Angel is technically not the first "gourmand" ("foodie," "edible dessert") fragrance. So long as perfumers have had vanilla, almond, cinnamon, anise, citrus oils, synthetic fruit notes, and so on, they've been able to create gourmand compositions. Sylvaine Delacourte cites Guerlain's early vanilla-heavy Shalimar (1925), for example, as well as L'Heure Bleue (1912), "with its marshmallow accord based on orange blossom and vanilla." Now, I've worn L'Heure Bleue several times and I've never gotten marshmallow from it, but the point is, you can create a gourmand aspect from traditional notes. Most reviewers and historians refer to Angel as the first modern gourmand: the one that shaped the genre as we know it today. As Delacourte says, "Without Shalimar, there would not have been the perfume Angel (1992) which was the first to have officially been declared as gourmand with its patchouli, red fruits and caramel accord. Angel became the leader of this new wave of gourmand perfumes, followed by Lolita Lempicka and many others." But more on that in a bit.

I've been thinking about the way I write about gender—"for men" and "for women"—in fragrance, and at most, I said that the patchouli in Coco Mademoiselle had a "masc" expression, so to speak. But both the Mugler site and other reviewers speak in terms of the traditional gender binary, so let's engage with that. Mugler (the brand) persistently emphasizes the femininity of the product, and it turns out that there's a reason for that.

But first, more from Mugler.com on the fragrance notes:

Angel Eau de Parfum combines the power of patchouli with the sensuality of notes of praline, red fruits and vanilla absolute. Celestial Facet: Calabrian Bergamot. The smell of the wind, the sky, the great outdoors, the infinite: Calabrian bergamot stings the senses like a breath of fresh air. Delicious Facet: Praline. The universal addiction to the Gourmand family: associated with red fruits, the sweet scents reminiscent of praline and caramel create an irresistible desire, thanks to the unprecedented use of Ethylmaltol in fine perfumery - a stroke of olfactory genius. Voluptuous Facet: Patchouli. Evocation of sensuality and ultra femininity: Warmed up by the oriental inflections of vanilla absolute and played in overdose, patchouli captivates, seduces: the quintessence of femininity.

There's our game-changer: ethyl maltol.

Invented in 1969 and six times more powerful than maltol (which is found naturally in cocoa), this component evokes the scents of ripe fruit or caramel. Before the advent of gourmand perfume, this molecule was only used in the food sector. Today, veltol [Pfizer's maltol product] is present in almost all gourmand recipes of fragrances. Combined with natural ingredients, it brings a delicious sweet touch with caramel and praline accents.

(That Carrément Belle article also touches on furaneol in gourmands, "a natural organic component found in strawberries and many other fruits" with "roasted sugar tones," used in perfume to represent candy or cooked fruit aspects. I'm guessing there is a significant dollop of this in Aquolina's Pink Sugar, but that's our next post.)

The Cut goes so far as to say that "Thierry Mugler Changed the Perfume World Forever"—Angel took about three years of concerted advertising to really take off, but it became a direct contrast to the ubiquitously clean CK One (Calvin Klein, 1994). In 2007, Angel joined the Fragrance Foundation Hall of Fame, and it's still a benchmark—a popular one—today. And while The Cut credits Angel with laying the groundwork for Bath & Body Works' Warm Vanilla Sugar, various Victoria's Secret fragrances, Rihanna's Fenty perfumes, and Kilian's Love, Don't Be Shy, that's entirely leaving out gourmands and/or fruitchoulis like (deep breath) Lolita Lempicka (1997), Coco Mademoiselle (2001), the entire Britney Spears fragrance empire (est. 2004), Pink Sugar (2004), Vera Wang's Princess (2006), the Prada Candy line (2011), Lancôme's La Vie Est Belle (2012), YSL's Black Opium (2014), Viktor & Rolf's Bonbon (2014), Ariana Grande's Cloud (2018), and every single sugary thing in between. Angel was the fragrance that said, sugar in perfume is now a thing and we're gonna put a fuckload of it into this bad boy—

"I want something mouthwatering and tasty which reminds me of childhood," Mugler allegedly said, wanting to recapture his memory of visiting French fairgrounds. “The scent of a fairground, candy floss, little cakes, chocolates, and caramels.” Perfumers Olivier Cresp and Yves de Chirin listened by throwing nearly every sugary ingredient into the formula: cotton candy, coconut, cassis, melon, jasmine, bergamot, pineapple, mandarin orange, honey, red berries, blackberry, plum, apricot, peach, jasmine, orchid, caraway, nutmeg, rose, lily of the valley, patchouli, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, tonka bean, amber, musk, and sandalwood.

—and we're gonna do whatever we gotta do to make that work.

And what Olivier Cresp and Yves de Chirin had to do to make that work, to balance the sweet elements of the fragrance in a way no one even worries about nowadays, was throw in a massive blast of patchouli. To wit:

Now Smell This: "What shocked me, mostly, was the patchouli, or more specifically, the 'unusually high 30 percent concentration of woodsy patchouli' that had been added to keep the fragrance from being overly sweet."

A Tea-Scented Library: "This stuff is earthy; dark; rough-textured; herbal-smoky like a cigarette (which, by the way, I loathe) and heavily mentholated, which makes it feel chemical and quite masculine. A definitely non-angelic, angry beast, roaring and screeching from the tiniest spray… and from the nozzle."

Tania Sanchez: "Look for Angel’s Adam’s apple: a handsome, resinous, woody patchouli, straight out of the pipes-and-leather-slippers realm of men’s fragrance… The effect kills the possibility of cloying sweetness, despite megadoses of the cotton-candy smell of ethylmaltol."

And this, I think, is why the Mugler website copy stresses femininity so relentlessly: the angel doth protest too much. A harsh, earthy patchouli that haunts me around the house doesn't read as "ultra feminine" to me, but that's on me and my preconceptions. (It is definitely on me; I cannot wash it off.) That said (and sometimes I have to refresh myself on this point), Gender Is Fake Except For the Parts You Like; anyone can wear anything they want, so it doesn't matter if Angel is deemed "feminine" or "masculine." But if we engage with the terms of the conversation that is already happening: the current Mugler website is addressing reactions that characterize the patchouli blast as "masculine," reframing and re-gendering that note as just another way to present femininity. (And clearly, I had no problem envisioning something like this when I said a similar patchouli felt like a werewolf debutante.) Basically, they're saying, "Angel's gender is 'woman' because we say so. Wear it and see what patchouli femininity feels like." In terms of gender discourse, I am way too far in over my head already, so I'll leave it at this: sometimes reviewers say masculine, Mugler says feminine, I say it's a synthesis of both or maybe neither; maybe perfumes, like angels, don't actually have gender.

Unfortunately, Angel is not for the femme in me. You see, I'm not much of a patchouli fan, but it's the only thing I can smell with this one after about three minutes. My first impression of Angel, every single time, is FROOT, led by melon, and then an absolute tsunami of patchouli crashes in. Once, once, I got a whiff of something I would call "white-chocolate praline cupcake" if I sniffed my arm real hard, and then I lost it again. And I know I can smell ethyl maltol! This is not a Javanol situation! I have worn Pink Sugar (and Fantasy, and Princess, and Cloud, not to mention a whole collection of Black Phoenix gourmands) several times, and I can smell dessert notes. I have no idea what's happening with this bottle of Angel. I cannot test this perfume anymore. Every time I try a single spray on my arm, my clothes smell like patchouli, my bed smells like patchouli, my room smells like patchouli, the vanity smells like patchouli, the hallway smells like patchouli. It stalks the house, just the patchouli, only the patchouli, smoky-hoarse and yet also belting out show tunes to the balconies. We've already been through my Fragrance Journey™ to learn to like this stuff even a little, and for me, it depends on what it's blended with. IT'S NOT BLENDED WITH ANYTHING ELSE, IT BREAKS FREE AND RAMPAGES FOR DAYS ON END, IT CONTAMINATES EVERYTHING I HAVE EVER OWNED IN THIS LIFE OR ANY OTHER NO MATTER HOW MUCH LAUNDRY I DO. If I were also getting haunted by all this cotton candy and praline and chocolate, I would like that! BUT I'M NOT.

Bonus hilarity: My mom hates patchouli.

So we're sending the bottle on to someone who loves The Funk; I'm going to order a fresh decant of Angel to see if it smells different coming from someone else's stock, and we'll see if the recipient of the Cursed Bottle gets to roll in her beloved patchouli, or if it somehow only smells like candy to her, cursèd as it is.

Since you have so many livestock to take care of, I am going to give you some outfits and you are to choose for whom they would fit best:

(1) a little black dress (revealing)

(2) a gothic dress (of your choice)

(3) formal channel suit (pinkish or blueish; specify)

(4) Anne Boleyn dress

(5) male suit (like you have for a female livestock)

(6) Lolita dress

(7) formal kimono

One outfit, one livestock.

Because I am very curious!!!

“So many livestock to take care of…? What on earth are you talking about? Oi, don’t just leave all these resplendent garments on my doorstep. I have no use for—“

Before he could finish speaking, Ruki found himself alone with one scanty yet silky smooth little black dress, two midnight onyx gothic dresses, three tweed Chanel suits (two in pale pink, one in baby blue), four Anne Boleyn dresses that spilled onto the floor when removed from the packaging, five extravagant suits of a masculine style, six pastel-colored lolita dresses, and seven unisex formal kimonos, all adorned with ornate patterns and shapes.

“Good grief… I don’t have the time, space, nor patience for this. Though I already have ideas of who to assign each outfit to. Yes, these shall suit them quite nicely… If they are so willing to don such unusual attire, that is. I suppose a master must reward his livestock every now and then.”

First, the Vampire examined the little black dress, stunningly beautiful despite not leaving much to the imagination.

“Ah, this dress doesn’t reveal the stomach at least. In that case, it’s perfect for Irina ( @iricathel ). While it’s not modest in the chest area, it would suit her hourglass figure to a T.”

Second came the two gothic dresses, the color of umbral shadow much like the previous garment.

“Hm… I always see him crossdressing. In fact, this seems to be right up Lukas’ ( @princesscrownprince ) alley. It wouldn’t be his first choice, sure, but something tells me he won’t ever quiet down over receiving an unsolicited gift from me. Well, no matter. I’ll gladly give this to him.”

A redheaded Ghoul who often wore Victorian style clothing came to mind with the other gothic dress.

“It’s rare for me to gift anything to Scarlett ( @kindan-no-kanojo ), but I get the feeling she would not only appreciate this dress, but also look marvelous in it as well. The lack of hue contrasts immaculately with her vivid red hair.”

Third came the formal Chanel suits. A stubborn yet resolute girl bearing the mark of a crown and his benefactor’s initial came to mind for the blue one in particular.

“How appropriate for a student council president. I ought to give this to Caria ( @cursed--requiem ). Surely she can’t refuse such sophisticated garb.”

After remembering a ball with the half-Vibora half-Founder, it became clear to Ruki who should don one of the pink suits.

“Ah, Aleksi ( @besnella )… This pink suit would complement her auburn locks perfectly. She seems like a very determined woman despite our short time acquainting ourselves with one another, but I’d certainly like to see her wear this.”

One pink suit remained. A diligent Vampire who refused to prey on innocence surfaced in his thoughts.

“Somehow this outfit looks like it belongs in Maria’s ( @veiledsagacity ) wardrobe. It undoubtedly gives off an educated and reserved vibe. Come to think of it, I haven’t asked her for her date of birth, yet she gifted me presents for my own birthday. I hope she will appreciate the gesture in return.”

Next, Ruki took out the Anne Boleyn dresses, pondering to himself who should accept such intricately designed clothing reminiscent of eras past. A lavender-haired Witch immediately came to mind.

“Josephine ( @thatonefrenchwitch ) would look utterly remarkable in this dress. I can already picture her long hair cascading over such lustrous fabric. Heh, she’d truly look like a Witch wearing this. I truly can’t wait to see it.”

Then a certain blonde came to mind, one with a penchant for fashion.

“Ah, it may not be her style per se, but Serena ( @serenaleblanc ) would look absolutely breathtaking if she were to don this dress. Perhaps she can even appraise the worth of such mysterious clothing as well, given her talents.”

Visions of a cheeky bandaged girl wearing one of the Anne Boleyn dresses swirled in his imagination.

“Indeed, Shoma ( @komori--shoma ) might not be opposed to wearing this. I’m certain she’d appear bewitching, wearing such vibrant colors against her alabaster hair and complexion.”

Last but not least, Ruki considered his benefactor’s very own daughter.

“There is no dress out of this selection more appropriate for the daughter of Karlheinz-sama. Yes, Yuuko ( @sakamaki--yuuko ) wouldn’t oppose to wearing this, especially when she’d look like a princess straight from a fable.”

Drastically different from the other selections, the Vampire then averted his gaze to the five suits. He set aside three for his brothers, leaving two left for a generous gift. The taciturn yet intellectual classmate and companion from the academy could use formal attire, or so Ruki surmised.

“Come to think of it, I’ve never seen Virek ( @crimson-mayhem ) wear anything quite as dignified as this. I do look forward to his reaction when I give this suit to him… Perhaps he’ll utter a word or two and nothing more, but what matters is that he wears it in the end.”

Then his much adored bounty hunter came to mind. Indeed, Ruki looked forward to seeing the half-Founder wear extravagant attire as if they were attending a grand event under cover together.

“Ah, Mystic ( @mino-diabolik )… You would look even more ravishing than you already do in this suit. It’s not often that I give him any sort of tangible gift, but I do hope he appreciates it nonetheless.”

Nearing the bottom of the abundance of clothes, Ruki directed his attention towards the delicately adorned lolita dresses. The girl who supposedly respected his benefactor just as much, if not more than he did very clearly had a penchant for this type of garb. A smile rose on his lips after realizing the heaven-made match.

“Nunnally ( @lured-into-wonderland ) is wearing this—no ifs, ands, or buts about it. It’s an order she cannot refuse, not that I believe she would anyway. It would appear wondrous on her.”

The elven maid surfaced in his thoughts as well. A promising reward for one so steadfast.

“This would compliment Estella’s ( @yourlocaltea ) silver hair with the utmost pulchritude. It may be a bit childish for her but regardless I believe she should wear other clothes aside from her servant attire.”

Next, an ostensibly cheerful sacrifice came to mind.

“Honestly, it’s difficult for me to imagine Sunny ( @sunny-flower-spot ) wearing such an elaborate dress, but it’s equally as bright and light-hearted as her. I’m sure it’s in her nature to try new things every now and then.”

And how could he forget the obnoxious pink-haired shapeshifter?

“Ah, Metsu ( @metsu-san )… This lolita dress looks a bit fancy for her liking, and knowing her she might ruin it somehow, but it’s better to give her this than any of the other options.”

Furthermore, the aspiring dance instructor also looked like a suitable fit for the lolita attire.

“Fiona ( @misslittlefounder ) should wear this. The many ruffles and bows are a tad feminine but nonetheless I can see her donning the dress with aplomb.”

Unlike the previous girls, a woman with a more dark and defiant aesthetic to her arose in his vision.

“How ironic would it be to give such a pastel dress to Kira ( @yourlocaltea ), of all people? I’d be humored to see that.”

Finally, only the fancy kimonos required recipients at this point. The Vampire rummaged through the deluxe clothing and textiles, vacillating between options on the fortune person who would wear the spectacular garb, impressive enough to strike inspiration in all who laid eyes upon it. Specifically a deft and beloved painter.

“I’m certainly no artist, but not even the most skilled in the world could capture Ellen’s ( @ana-darkcloud ) beauty if they were to wear this kimono. I should give it to them posthaste.”

Idols would often model these traditional outfits in spirit of the festivals that took place in Japan, however, knowing that Kuron took on both the role of idol and teacher, Ruki surmised a summer festival would be just what he needed to reserve a day of respite to himself.

“This kimono would suit Kuron ( @mukami-kuron-mrsadisticcat ) splendidly indeed. I know he most likely already has his own, but I’m hoping he will at least accept this as a token of my gratitude.”

Speaking of which, students would frequent such events as well. Including a particular girl from the academy, or so the Vampire thought.

“Angelica ( @dialovers-angelica ) might not have a proper kimono for this summer after all. Last time I checked, her family isn’t exactly affluent and the garments tend to be expensive. Therefore, she ought to be impressed with this formal wear. I wonder if she has ever worn one so elegant.”

While Ruki still didn’t know Nami Arisu all that well yet, he hoped to close the distance between them and use an opportune moment where they could both go outdoors in their kimono to better acquaint themselves with one another.

“Hm… That girl from the academy would look charming in a formal kimono. She seemed interested in my cooking and the books I’ve read, so perhaps Nami ( @sunturbogel ) might appreciate this gift from me as well.”

Although she was far from mortal, Ruki considered giving a kimono to his coveted acquaintance who also attended the academy. Cyra Abbas, a woman who, unbeknownst to the Vampire, lived on this earth far longer than he could’ve imagined.

“I realize that Cyra ( @cyra-abbas ) usually sticks to her white and gold aesthetic, but I do think that a formal kimono such as this would bring out her beauty so effortlessly. Perhaps her and I can explore the festivities in Japan and indulge in all the local cuisine.”

Daughter of Beatrix and Karlheinz, he determined Ayame Sakamaki would radiate an unforeseen glory donning such a cultural symbol.

“Ayame ( @sakamakiayame ) most likely hasn’t experienced too many opportunities to wear this exquisite garb. It’s time we change that.”

Once again, last but not least, his dear fallen seraph sprung to mind. Perhaps incisions could be made in the fabric to accommodate for their wings, but Ruki longed to see his beloved Azazel don an extravagant look, perhaps one that might temporarily distract them from the recent inner turmoil of a shattering halo and contemplations of the afterlife.

“This array of rich patterns and honored craftsmanship looks like the type of attire Azazel ( @ana-darkcloud ) might adore. I’d love to see my dear angel wear it.”

After deciding who would obtain which clothing, the Vampire sighed in exhaustion, preparing the garments for their proper imparting. Just observing all the various textiles in their lavish details down to every delicate thread encouraged Ruki to wear a sumptuous ensemble of his own. A suit as dark as his own cinereous black strands and a tie ivory as his fangs.

“With this, everything is ready.”

There are two Brazilian Portuguese dubbings of this film. The first from 1951 and the second from 1995.

The first dubbing is the official dubbing and is available on all home video releases.

The recording of the 1951 dub only took 4 months. Gilberto Souto (the director, translator, and supervisor) arrived in Brazil on 04/21/1951 and returned to the USA on 08/02/1951.

On the 2000 U.K. DVD release, the Brazilian Portuguese 1951 credits are included but there are errors. Mattinhos is credited as "Estevam Correa Mattos" (which is his real name) as the White Rabbit. The Cheshire Cat was credited to José Vasconcellos, but in reality, he was voiced by Jorge Goulart. Goulart sued Disney in 1996 for royalties of his voice being used on the home video releases of Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland. The King of Hearts is credited to João Dias Lopes, which is the real name of Germano. José Vasconcellos is also credited to the Mother Oyster, but in reality, she was voiced by Apollo Corrêa.

The second dubbing was done for the SBT television network for Christmas 1995 and was only shown on TV. This dubbing is not included on any home media release.

In the second dubbing, only one song was dubbed. That song being "I'm Late." This extract was treated as spoken dialogue and was dubbed. All of the other songs were in English with Brazilian Portuguese subtitles.

Well well welly well well....

Let's talk about the art I made for the finale and the last couple character designs revealed, shall we?

It was an all-hands-on-deck situation, and I was able to contribute to one of the final scenes. I hadn't gotten to draw Maria yet this volume, and so that's what I request for this final assignment.

After my last scene with Adam, I had foolishly believed I wouldn't have to draw the Atlas rifles again. Nope! xD I also kinda uh, just put whatever for the mermaid grimm, and wasn't super clear that they had a specific look, so i just sorta drew generally aquatic monsters, but it works out anyways and nobody called me out on it wwwww

The mech was also a bit of a pickle! Had to ask other sketchies for ref images, and I think the design of the mech was still in flux right up to the very last possible second. Still though, skyscraper-sized robots are always fun.

Maria was such a treat to draw, I love how she's simultaneously full of wisdom and also continuously very confused on how qrow and ruby are related.

We in this house don't believe in "cheating" in art, but we do believe in taking shortcuts. Plus it turned out bretty coo.

Got some help with this! perspective is a weak point for me, but felly sketchy Jayjaybase was able to procure a better ref image for me than what I was finding off of google, and it helped a lot for the overall look of the thing.

This was another fun shot to do. Yang waving with her stump is probably my favorite part lol.

Qrow's the kind of character where I always fret if I'll be able to draw him and his tricky hair right, but one way or another he always seems to turn out okay.

It was surprisingly tricky for me to find a good reference image for Qrow's running legs here, luckily posemaniacs came in to save the day.

This was a fun sequence to do, i always like imagining what a person looks like mid-transformation into whatever animal they turn into, the way their body and features must contort. I wonder if I'll get to do more stuff like that in the future?

Lowkey hilarious that Maria didn't have the slightest inkling that Qrow could turn into a bird until this very moment, and her reaction is just "neat!" Perfect note to end that scene on imo lmao

Now on to the last two character designs of the volume!

First up, worst girl, Cinder! There was quite a bit of debate on how to handle Cinder, especially since I personally actually quite liked her canon Atlas outfit, and didn't want to deviate too strongly from it. Overall though, it was decided that she should keep more of her red motif and a lot of the more classy elements from her previous designs. A soft gradient on her cloak helps tie in the colors from her feathers and keeps her legs from disappearing into the cloak. She feels a lot more like a mage here, with us wanting to lean more into her maiden status. As a rule I'm not fond of Cinder, but when you're doing character design, you kinda gotta find a way to sympathize and get in the character's head to find the roots of their personality to design from, and I like to think I was able to find an approachable middle ground with her.

Malachite's new outfit! For realsies this time and not just a cobbling together of her old outfit with her sister's!

Originally back when Malachite reappears and fights with Cinder, she was meant to appear in the casual!outfit shown in this sheet, her hair already cut to its new length. However, for various reasons, the artists for that scene ended up using her vol.5 cobbled design, and the casual!outfit was never used. A shame, I'm so fond of clothes that defy gravitate and look like they're about to fall off xD

But nonetheless! Malachite's Atlas outfit was largely inspired by a particularly eclectic gothic/punk lolita dress that was shared in the server from online, which got some tweaks and adjustments for dressing malachite in. We're dialing up the intensity of Mal's mental schisms here, two brains existing in one person and generally getting along, yet clashing even so. Gave her more simplified hand weapons, as well as increasing the size of her ankle blades to better match the size of her hand-blades. The main idea behind her was for her to be a blender in a cocktail dress lol. Very excited for her to do more stuff in the future of FRWBY!

Are Yoru: From my Akademi-High universe! Nobody quite knows where Are came from, she just showed up one day in town, they are incredibly cheerful and like to play pranks on the town residents. She is a demon and proudly proclaims it, they don’t hide who she is.

Atsu Kaigan: also from my AH universe. Atsu is a fashion designer, He loves Lolita fashion and he loves the show “My Tiny Horse” which is about a group of horses who go on adventures. He loves his girlfriend who is a goth delinquent leader, He has a cute purple bat that was gifted to him by her.

Aishite: A pet from Akademi high. A white bunny owned by Uru Nanamo.

Alexander Leverett: The main character of “The Trolley Problem”, Alexander is a half Ai half human who loves frogs and kangaroos, He was the leader of new America for a time but now is free to be a teenager since the war ended. He is dating/married to Xaiver who is an AI.

Adam: A side character in “The Trolley Problem”, Originally apart of “the Authority” an organization created by Maria Leverett. He is fascinated by retro technology, He is married to Johnathan and is a pseudo father figure to Alexander.

Akita: A side character in “The Trolley Problem”. Akita is one of the AIs inside “The Kiddo Collective”. They were apart of an experiment on making Human/AI hybrids, which caused 5 children to be in one body. Akita is very quiet but when xe gets to talk about dogs xe gets incredibly excited. Xe loves xer father Nova, and likes to listen to him talk about the stars.

Angel Cake: A pet in “The Trolley Problem”, A brown ferret owned by The Reds.

Amy: A character from “Cipher Labs”. Amy is the third demon triplet, She is a destruction demon and takes the form of a sheep or human depending on the circumstances. Baa is very quiet, she doesn’t have allot to say unlike her sisters and tends to be silent but deadly.

Arvensis: A character from “Secrets”, A psychic who can see the future. But she has dissociative amnesia due to trauma. A very sweet girl, she just wants to garden and pet the stray cats around her home.

Alexa: A character from “Playful’s Fun Times Pizzeria”, A spirit who possesses Playful the Panther, one of the animatronics at the pizzeria. She is an incredibly vengeful spirit who wants revenge on the one who murdered her.

Artsy the American Black Bear: An animatronic at Playful’s Fun Time Pizzaeria, She fingerpaints with the children and encourages them to have creativity. She is possessed by a person named Clara, they are not as vengeful but still get pissed when their murderer is around.

Aniyah: A ghost at Playful’s Fun Time Pizzeria, She possesses Bree the Butterfly. She is a sad spirit, often seen crying in the halls of the Pizzaeria.

Aurora Star: The Element of Loyalty, She is an alicorn with a cutie mark of a star and a moon. They are incredibly shy and like to keep to themselves and stargaze. But with her friends she is very kind and protective.

Aiki: Code Name: Inari. She is one of the magical girls. She is very socially Awkward and her teammates seem to distrust her due to her having a black soul gem, a rare soul gem that usually villains have. But she is quite sweet once you get to know her.

Anthy: The name of Linh’s magical girl familiar, they are a luna moth.

Alexandrite: A crystal gem, She has a very lazy personality despite what her gems are made for, they are often seen sleeping in her pajamas instead of working to protect the town, but humans love her due to her having a chiller personality than the rest of the gems.

Ametrine: A civilian gem, She was raised by humans and wants to be considered one. She is a bit insecure about her gem heritage and wishes she was born a human.

Abigail: A human gem hybrid, Her mother was a pink sapphire and her father is unknown. She was orphaned at a young age and was adopted by a strict religious family. She is dating Maybre in secret and hopes to one day escape her family.

Angel Aura Geode: They are a home world gem, Geodes are made to make more gems so the diamonds do not have to do it. They feel like there should be more to their life, and they hope they can eventually escape with Maybre.
