Star Wars Book Cover Overview

The Twitter User "SCentralized" inspired me with his "if this Star Wars show/movie were a Book of Expanded Universe in the mid 90s" Covers to do a little overview of Star Wars cover designs.

In this post I will go through these Covers. I hope you have fun with it!

1970s / 1980s:

The first "era" of covers I would call the "Classic SciFi Cover " era. It includes the novel adaptationsof the OT as well as "Splinter of the Mind Eye", "The Han Solo/Lando Calrissian Adventures" The covers are designed the way sci-fi novels often looked at the time.

The 1990s

Things got really fancy in the 90s. The covers of the "Movie Poster" era look like the posters of Original Trilogy. That may be due in part to the fact that Drew Struzan designed some of those covers. The books of this era are works of art and the cover alone makes you want to read the book.

1999 - 2005

That changed in the early 2000s when the Star Wars publishing rights went back to Del Rey. This "Early Del Rey" era is dominated by 2 cover types: Promo images of the movies put together in Photoshop, and abstract illustrations that sometimes looked really good, sometimes weird. This era spanned the entire period of the prequels' release. 1999-2005. The prequel era books mostly featured promo images and the "New Jedi Order" series, also released during this time, featured illustrated covers.

2006 - 2009

From 2006 onwards, there was a mixture of Photoshop, but also a return to illustrations and, for a short time, 3Dish models. One example of this is the "Darth Bane Rule of Two", Fortunately, this trend was quickly discarded.

2009 - Today

In 2009, the "Fate of the Jedi" series started with an interesting cover design. Personally, I'm a big fan of it.

From then on, the focus was completely back on illustrations, and it has remained that way until today.

Every now and then, however, there are "relapses" into the past. For example, Star Wars Brotherhood or Jedi Battle Scars.

Of course, this is only a selection of covers and not all covers were and are the same - that would be boring. But it is interesting to see what "trends" there were and are.

Of Magic, Miracles, and Moonlight - Stephen Strange x OFC. Slow burn romance, older man/younger woman, mentor/student, friends-to-lovers. Pre-Infinity War. Contains Mature Content. WIP, currently 19 chapters.

A Khan By Any Other Name - Khan Noonien Singh x OFC. Adventure, danger, angst, romance. Pre-Star Trek Into Darkness. Contains Mature Content. WIP, currently 12 chapters.

The Secret of Salvation - Major Jamie Stewart x OFC. War Horse AU. WW I. Angst, prisoner of war, romance. Contains Mature Content. WIP, currently 5 chapters.

The One That Got Away - Benedict Cumberbatch AU, where he is primarily a stage Actor with some movie/television appearances. Benedict Cumberbatch x OFC. Takes place during a production of The Taming of the Shrew. Castmates to friends to falling in love, slow burn, jealousy, lots of angst. WIP, currently 18 chapters.

Scarlett and the Professor - Tumblr exclusive. An original, erotic, paranormal romance, based on a discontinued roleplay. All original characters. Takes place on an unnamed Caribbean island. Older man/younger woman, professor/student, supernatural elements bringing them together, romance, angst, forbidden desires, light kinks with foreshadowing of darker kinks. Contains Mature Content. WIP, currently 32 chapters, plus two one-shots.

Doctor Stephen Strange's life has settled into a fulfilling pattern; even as Master of the New York Sanctum, he continues his studies in the mystic arts, self-training with the library that the Ancient One amassed in her years as Sorcerer Supreme. Every Single Star vs. the Forces of Evil episode in one sentence or less

I’ll probably post a more in depth-review later this week, as I have opinions literally no one wants to hear but I will proclaim anyway, and then I’ll probably also due a revision of my ‘Past Queens Connection to Star’ post from way back in season 2. Cause that needs an update.

Party With a Pony: Spoopy Wardens hunt for the glitter pony while Star gets ice for Marco’s sweaty back.

IDaisy Jones & The Six was everywhere when it first came out. I had read a previous book by Taylor Jenkins Reid and really enjoyed it. A really sweet and teary change of pace from what I usually read. Off the bat, it’s everything that I’m into. A kind of making-the-band, behind the scenes of an about-to-be-massive rock band in the ‘70s. What leads you to to them becoming one of the biggest bands in the world. Think Fleetwood Mac vibes. Everything screams yes to me. Behind-the-scenes drama, talented people doing their craft, love, music, fashion, it-girls when it was cool and not cringe. When I picked the book up though, I was really put off by the story-telling device of having the entire book in interview format. And having apparently not learned my lesson putting off The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, I put Daisy Jones back down. Then after learning that Reese Witherspoon will be turning it into a limited series with Riley Keogh (!!!!) and Sam Claflin starring I happened to find it in a second hand store again and gave it a go! I’m so glad I did. It had me listening to Fleetwood Mac and The Civil Wars for 2 weeks non-stop. And just falling in love with this works. 🚀 Are you a fan of sci-fi books set in space? I’ve never been interested in space stories in general no matter the format, other than maybe watching Star Wars. When Skyward came out, I knew I wanted to read it because it’s a YA book written by Brandon Sanderson, but was nervous since it’s set in space.⠀ .⠀ 🚀 But I absolutely loved it so much!! The flight scenes, characters, Sensa’s growth, M-Bot, and all the unanswered questions made for such an amazing fast-paced story. I cannot wait to read Starsight because I need to know what happens! My only concern is that the book 3 has a release date of 2021. 😩⠀ .⠀ 🚀 #QOTD: What’s a good thing that happened to you today? Due to our sudden move to SF, we had to cancel a flight to Seattle we had planned in March. Dulce Amor Soriano has written this book so wonderfully. When I read the first page of this book I was thrilled and excited to know more to read more. ELIOUD, a descendant of the Nephilim — meaning he’s part angel and part human. Angeles, Vampires, Werewolves and Men in war A sixteen-year-old orphan girl named Hope always wanted to be a superhero and help people. She works for a cafe to make her living and support her education. She recently having strange dreams and started having strange visions when she touches a customer called Ashbel to stop him and Persuade him to help the Chinese woman, to find her missing husband, whom she doesn't even know. Helping others always brings her trouble with her job but this time she gets involved in mysterious Eliouds missing and terrorist attacks. She nearly got killed but Ashbel saves her with the help of his friend Dria. It's turned out that Ashbel is an Elioud, to her surprise, Ashbel tells her she is an Elioud, too. To solve this mystery Hope, Ash, Dria, and Liekos have to find out who was behind those terrorist attacks. I finished Carrie Fisher's "The Princess Diarist" the other day and wanted to share a few thoughts. I was hoping to get more insight into the incredible re-writes Carrie did for the Star Wars movies but that wasn't in this book. What IS in this book: Carrie writes about how she got the part of Princess Leia (duh) and how the role completely changed her life. Her brief relationship with Harrison ford also takes up a huge portion of the book. Nothing too salacious is shared but you get an idea for how their relationship was.
