random question but erwin gives Lana stan vibes and same lolz but then i wondered what music your characters from strangerville story all listen to?
First off I am so happy to answer this question for you!! Thank you for asking! I love love love music and love this question!
Tumblr media
That being said, before I begin I want you to know that I'm so sorry to burst a personal headcanon you've made about my version of Erwin Pries...but he has probably never heard a Lana Del Rey song in his entire life lmfao (I'm assuming that's who you're talking about). But Erwin is an EA premade, so if your Erwin is a Lana Del Rey stan I love that for you and that's valid!!! My Erwin just isn't haha (but his sister Maggie would like her music!) Anyway!!!
Very long response below the cut! ↓
Erwin mostly listens to older music: he loves music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s and listens to everything on vinyl or cassette (he is very passionate about the preservation of physical media, he is the Paranoid ass king after all). His favorites are Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, David Bowie, Abba, Neil Diamond, Jim Croce, Billy Joel, John Denver, James Taylor, Elton John, The Mamas and Papas, Johnny Cash, and so on. He also has a not-so-secret love for musicals and claims that the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack is one of the best pieces of composition to ever exist (he also likes Godspell, Rent, Xanadu, and many more) Get him drunk enough and he will talk about how Mamma Mia is "Literally a transcendent work of art with whimsy and heartbreak and joy and a tender ass storyline at the heart that quite literally fucks so hard. Fucking Meryl Streep. Fuck!" Direct quote. That man hardly listens to anything post-1990, with the exception of "Queen Florence Welch" (Florence and the Machine).
Zoe appreciates all kinds of music, but has a deep love for the soul music that she heard around the house growing up. She likes music with feeling and depth, and the lyrics are most important to her but if the song isn't deep, it better have a good beat that she can dance to! Her personal favorite artists include Otis Reading, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Dionne Warwick, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Rhianna, Lauryn Hill, The Temptations, Roberta Flack, Janelle Monáe, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and so on!
Beckett's looks deceive him because he loves pop music. He is listening to the current hits, think Billboard 100s exclusively lol. He might have listened to a few rock or rap songs to get "pumped up" back in his football days, but for the most part he is always listening to pop - he even likes boybands, but won't willingly admit that lmao. He's a Swiftie through and through, and he will fight for her honor on any Twitter thread or in-person discussion. He also has a love for 90s and early 2000s country artists like Shania Twain, Alison Krauss, Lee Ann Womack, and The Dixie Chicks (now The Chicks) because of cleanin' and cookin' Sundays with his momma <3
Junia doesn't care about music that much! She doesn't have any favorite artists, she's never even bought a CD and probably couldn't tell you 5 bands or artists off the top of her head. She's one of those people who will listen to anything that "has a good beat" while she's working out, and it doesn't even have to have words. She's listening to music more for background noise as opposed to being passionate about it or seeking it out.
Anwar listens to alternative music mostly! Bands like the 1975, The Strokes, Paramore, The Clash, Fall Out Boy, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, The Neighborhood, and so on. He definitely went through a pop-punk, Hot Topic, combo of emo and scene phase in his teen years in the 2000s. (Iykyk, if you don't... look it up lmao. It was a time to be alive.) If they could play at Warped Tour, he listens to them lmao. But he's cool with most pop or radio music, he's not like a music snob or anything.
Tashia listens to pretty much everything, but she also loves metal music. Idk if you've seen the Pixar/Disney movie "Monster's University" but there's a scene in there where the mom of one of the main characters drops them off at Monsters Inc. and she's like "I'll just be listening to my tunes until you get back" in like the sweetest voice and then as she's rolling up the windows you can hear metal music blasting through the speakers and she's just like... calmly vibing like she's listening to elevator music or smooth jazz lmfao. It's very funny. That's how I imagine Tashia's music taste to be and it concerns everyone around her <3

summary: I basically took Isayama’s work, forced it into a romance story, and made Erwin the love interest. Commander meets cadet and they fall in love (not instantly though)
notes: very berry canonverse (but some events were modified to fit my narrative), wasn’t intended to be this long, but it all is in the details right?
content warnings: smut where it fits (or where I make it fit. Also, reader is NOT underage, so likewise, MINORS DO NOT INTERACT, please.) slow burn (I really mean it. I’m not olympic diving into any form of smut for the first chapters.) no angst. I dislike angst. I would never. I could never. (Although angst can be somewhat subjective so take it with a grain of salt?)

“Are you going to him?”
“Commander?”
“Are you going to meet him now?”
Authoritative. Overbearing. Rude. Those were not words you would’ve used to describe his tone. How could you, when there was nothing to describe? His voice was just empty, dry and cold. Much like the winter you could see inside his eyes.
“Who?” You asked, unable to think of anything other than how this was the first time you had locked eyes with him in what felt like a lifetime. And things had surely changed in there. Traces of that dependable kindness you remembered, or that ever-present warmth you always found in him, were nowhere to be seen, but there was something new in their place. And, although you weren’t exactly sure what it was, one thing was for certain: you didn’t like it. “If you could explain, maybe I-”
“I asked you a question.” He spoke calmly and clearly, in a quiet and monotone voice. The type that is typically used when kindly disagreeing with strangers, because it is hard to imagine someone could get offended by it.
Yet you did.
You did, because never before, not even back then when you were perfect strangers who had never shared a bed, had his voice sounded so impersonal, flat, and devoid.
And it hurt.
So very much.
His voice, like the gentle tapping of raindrops on the roof an early Sunday morning, like the gleeful ring of the school bell right before the summer begins, that caramel voice he had always used with you, a voice that was just as easy to fall in love with as it was on the ears… had never sounded so dull and toneless before. Almost as if it belonged to somebody else, to someone else’s boss maybe, one who was very tired, and very dissatisfied with his assistant’s performance.
Could it be that in the end, hundreds of nights after you started working for him, just when you thought you had it all figured out… Could if be that finally the inevitable had happened? Did you end up disappointing him after all? Regardless of how hard you had tried to avoid such an outcome?
No.
You refused.
You had worked so hard to prove yourself wrong. To show yourself that, even though you didn’t have Mikasa’s skill, Reiner’s strength, Eren’s determination, Jean’s leadership, Sasha’s charisma, or Armin’s wits, you had whatever was left, and for eight months at least, that had seemed to be good enough.
It was here, at the Survey Corps, as his assistant, where you had finally been given a taste of confidence, and for the first time in a lifetime of self doubt, felt like you belonged, like you were enough. So no, you refused to let today become the day that was going to change.
And like so, you tried to search for an answer through the confusing haze that was your head, you tried to search for clues despite the invisible chord tightly wrapped around your neck. And, in such state of distress, there was only one you could think of.
“Leon?” When the name left your lips, you swore you saw something flicker in his eyes, maybe an indication that your guess was correct. And you didn’t know if he found your answer helpful, because in your case, it only left you with even more questions. “I- Commander I don’t understand. Why does it matter?”
“That’s an answer I was hoping I could get from you.” He replied, very matter-of-factly, and you wished he would show some sort of emotion, raise his voice, frown, click his tongue, shake his head, anything, so you could at least get a clue of where this conversation was heading to. Because right now you had no idea where Leon fit into this.
And no, by the way, you weren’t going to meet him. Turns out you and him didn’t have a lot to talk about after all, unlike what Lord Koch had suggested. You enjoyed his fascinating tales and refreshing perspectives for about an hour or so. Then, you drank some tea in the dining hall, where he asked for your opinion on some poem he had written on his way here, and after that, you took him to see Jean, with whom apparently he did have a lot to talk about. And although they were both too polite to explicitly ask you to leave, you read the room, and it told you in capital letters that they needed space to catch up. And like so, you had decided to retreat to your office, where for some reason only the Commander seemed to know, you were currently being interrogated about whether you had plans to meet your friend that night.
“I’m not going t-” Wait. You stopped in your tracks, letting the sudden idea cross your mind first so it wouldn’t run you over. “Do you think that-? Oh. Commander- I- there’s nothing between us. He’s just a friend.”
“Is that so?” He replied, and it only took one peek into his midnight eyes to know that he didn’t believe you. “If that’s the case, then why did he-”
He seemed to reconsider his options just seconds before completing his sentence, choosing instead a long sigh as replacement for whatever words were supposed to come out of his lips. And you swore he had never looked and sounded so exhausted before.
“Forgive me. It was never my place to ask questions I probably made you very uncomfortable with.” Being the artful, calculating leader of the Survey Corps, he knew very well how to compose himself swiftly and without leaving any emotional traces. “You may go.” He sure knew how to choose his battles and when to retreat.
But that was him. Not you.
“No.” You said, surprising even yourself. “Then why what? What is it that you wanted to ask?” You tried to watch the tone of your words. He was your boss, after all. But it was not easy, and you wondered if this was the same kind of frustration the sun feels when it tries to shine but clouds just keep getting on its way. “What makes you think that there’s something between Leon and I?”
He didn’t answer, choosing to stare at you instead. And if he was trying to read you, then it was certainly a fair game, because you were doing just the same. Only that, it wasn’t easy to see anything beyond the darkness in his eyes.
It would be so simple, to fix things. He just needed to tell you why he thought there was something between you and Leon, and then you could sort it out. Then, you could explain to him why he was wrong. Whatever the misunderstanding, you were sure that if given the chance to explain, he would understand. He would understand that Leon was just a friend, that you weren’t even that close, and that a small present didn-
“A box of figs?” You suddenly asked, praying that this wasn’t the answer, because the idea made you feel like it was lava flowing through your veins. “Is this about the figs? Because if it is-” You snorted and looked at the ceiling, in part because you wished you could find another, more logical answer there, but more so because you needed to contain whatever emotions were threatening to spill out of your eyes. “Do you think I’m going to fall in love with him because he gave some candies?” You still weren’t ready to look at him, but you needed his eyes to answer the question you were about to ask. You knew they wouldn’t lie. So, against any type of survival instinct and without any kind of protection, you ventured into the snow storm that were his eyes. “Do you think I fell for you because you bought me a damn box of figs? Didn’t know I looked that easy.”
“You know that’s not-”
“Then what?!”
“Of course it’s not about the figs.” He stood up abruptly, and the change in his voice told you that there was something else. Maybe a lot more, judging by the closed fist now hanging to his side.
You wanted to be patient. To stay calm, and polite, and collected, and all those pretty adjectives they say you need in order for communication to flourish. But, as you looked into his eyes, you only felt more and more hurt.
To think you had spent the last few nights wide awake, asking the ceiling why he didn’t love you back, not daring to close your eyes because every time you did, you only saw him, smiling in sepia flashbacks of what once was, but wasn’t anymore. And yet, here he was, questioning your loyalty and whether you were seeing another man behind his back.
It was suffocating. Staying in this room, where even the air screamed his name. But if that was the issue, then you weren’t sure there was a place you could escape to. Because, even when it came to your own body, you struggled to think of a single patch of skin he hadn’t kissed, a single part of yourself where his touch didn’t linger.
“You know what. I wasn’t going to meet him, but now I might.” You heard a wry snort escape your lips, just in time for your vision to get blurry. “Because being with a friend is better anyway than going to my room to spend another night crying about you.” You took a step towards the door, but turned around when you heard him push his chair back. “It’s so unfair, you know. So unbelievably unfair.” The cracks in your voice warned you that if you kept talking you were going to break, but if you didn’t tell him now then when? “All I do is think about you, day and night, and you think I can’t wait to finish my shift so I can spend time with another man? You know how unbelievably un-”
“And you think it’s easy for me?” He took a step closer. And now that the desk wasn’t in between, you felt even more vulnerable. “One moment I’m holding you and you’re calling me by my name, and the next, you’re not even looking my way. And then-” He shook his head slightly, as if trying to shake off the urge to say more. And you were honestly done begging him to tell you what it was. “I agree. It’s so unfair.”
“And do you think I just woke up one day and said ‘you know what, I’m going to ignore him’?” You hated it. How even in this situation, your body craved his touch, his scent, his lips. “Do you think I wanted this to stop?” And how bad you needed him to hold you right now. “What we had.” Like the first time, so many nights ago, in the Forest of Giant Trees. “Whatever it was.” You hated how tempted you were to throw yourself into his arms, bury your face in his chest and cry. “Do you think I would purposely ruin it all up?” Cry until his white shirt was all wet, and disgusting, and messed up. “The early mornings, the rainy afternoons, even the late night shifts…” You hated that you wanted him to run a soothing hand across your back and tell you that it was going to be okay. That this wasn’t the end. “…The good nights.” Oh, the good nights… you hated how bad you missed the sight of his bare back under the moonlight, left cheek squished against the pillow, freckles on his shoulders like stars on the midnight sky. “The sex.”
And most of all, you hated how little sense it all made. Why did it have to end when there was still so much left? Why did you have to close the book when there were still entire chapters you wanted to write? And why were your lungs acting as if you had just outrun a horde of titans, when your feet had been planted there the whole time?
In front of him.
Close to his warm body.
So close it took him less than a second to pull you by the waist, and make you lean against the desk, your chest rising and falling against his, in clumsy attempts to manage whatever little oxygen was available in the room. And it was either the lack of air, or the hard wood uncomfortably poking the back of your thighs, but your legs felt as firm as a house of cards. And, anticipating they would give in anytime now, your hands promptly reached for the firm, solid muscles of his chest.
And there in his hold, with his heart beating under your palm, and your insides feeling as fizzy as the contents of the glasses some merrier souls were clinking at the dining hall just a few rooms away, you realized his eyes were mirroring back the same questions you had been asking just moments ago.
There in his hold, with his strong arm possessively wrapped around your waist, and his left thigh finding its way between your legs, you felt reclaimed, like a crumpled up piece of paper that had been picked up again after spending countless nights discarded on the cold floor.
His glacial eyes were to your skin what raindrops to the cobblestones on the hottest day of the summer, and as you stared into them, realized it had been ages since you had seen the color blue. And now that you looked closer, close enough to see the speckles of brown in his irises, you weren’t actually sure if there was something new in there, or if something was missing instead. What had he seen today in the field? What had he learned out there? Or perhaps, what had he lost?
“What happened?” Determined to find out, you placed the question against his lips. Softly, like the kisses he would cover you in not too many nights ago.
“Erwin.” His name left your lips like a plea, almost as if it held the key to all the answers you were looking for.
But the only thing you got for a reply, was his hand on the back of your neck, so warm it burned, his thumb pushing your jaw and tilting your head back, leaving your neck completely exposed to him.
“You.” His lips whispered against the tender skin of your neck, making it impossible for you to resist the need to lean against the thick, well-muscled thigh that he, always the gentleman, had so readily provided between your legs. “That’s what happened.”

hello! how are you? hope life's going well for you!
I have a little question.
so, as we all know, there has been a lot of speculation on whether Levi's a virgin or not.
and I've read your personality analysis of Levi (which, omg, bless you, I love) and his mental issues etc...
but here's my question, according to your analysis and your opinion, do you think he is a virgin or not?
also, there's that part where he says that he was "popular enough" with women...what do you think he meant by that? idk why, but I believe he meant...maybe (perhaps (perhaps)) he meant how closely knitted he was with Isabel and *maybe* petra?
and thank you to all the contribution you have made to us levussy worshippers 🫡
and by the way! I love your account!<3
hiii :D that’s so sweet😭😭😭🫶thank u for reading :’)) i’m also happy to answer this lol.
i’ll start with that dialogue!
the “popular with women” bit of dialogue isn’t quite translated correctly into english. it’s more like, when it has to do with men and women, the implication Zeke makes is romantic. the limits of the language - and probably whoever's in charge of PR - default romance to men and women. women isn't the literal term in the japanese dialogue.
but the question is attraction and not general popularity.
while you could argue that the implications of the conversation matter the most - so Levi (self-proclaimed) was popular in the romance scene - you must also consider that Levi had to say he was popular enough, or else he would be proving Zeke’s accusation right in that Levi doesn’t know other people’s feelings.
(although, he is popular to people behind the walls, but i’m getting off topic.)
proof of all that bc my summary is bad🫶
if Levi did seriously answer Zeke in that moment, just knowing Levi and his avoidance of relationships, especially romantic ones as far as is shown in AOT, he would’ve likely answered generally because he could, instead of feeding into Zeke’s attempt to fluster him lol. and of course he could've lied, again, so that Zeke couldn't get the satisfaction of being right or flustering him.
any way you cut it, i don’t think he had anyone in mind.
😅just to get it out of the way for those who don’t know i guess cuz it’s a popular piece of trivia, isayama has never confirmed whether Levi is a virgin.
sex is innately intimate. no matter if you’re just seeking momentary pleasure - which Levi doesn’t seem like the type to do - it’s both intimate and exposing. Levi just wouldn’t engage in casual sex.
especially in the underground and the negative associations he has with sex, mostly as it has to do with pain and suffering - very, very most likely, at least, and supported by what we’ve seen of the bad boy manga so far when some attackers threatened him as a child to make him “do what his mother did”. and Levi would never run the risk for disease.
(also assuming condoms exist.)
like i talked about in that analysis, trauma, in this case being exposed to sex at a young age, doesn’t simply go away, and also it exacerbates other things like distrust and an unwillingness to be vulnerable in romantic relationships.
so if it were to be someone, it would have to be someone Levi has a close bond with and trusts implicitly. someone who’s a Scout, then, but you also have to consider that romance just comes second on principle - at least to Levi whose top priority is always his duty.
his most selfish act after joining, this also being a show of affection, was letting Erwin rest (from his perspective), instead of forcing him back into hell.
so i mean - REALISTICALLY, IMO - for Levi it’s really not as simple as candlelit dinners and long walks on the beach ykwim?? there would be no love confession, only his actions which communicate his devotion or saying “”simple”” terms like “I trust you” or “I need for you not to die on me.”
sorry i’m getting so off topic.
ANYWAY. in my opinion, based on what info is allotted in canon, to me he is a virgin : )

dandelion root
After a good night’s rest, your regularly set alarm rings you awake at 6 AM.
Once you were home after dinner, you didn’t spend much time thinking about your night out. Against your worst judgment, you decided that going to bed and choosing to ignore whatever feelings you had about dinner was the best decision you could’ve made. You stripped down, hopped in the shower, and crashed on your bed with your plush rabbit. You fell easily into your slumber, the anticipation and fear that plagued you over the past 2 nights finally gone.
If there was anything for you to think about, though, it would’ve been Levi.
You stretch your arms above your head, letting a yawn escape. After you blink a couple times to get the sleep out of your eyes, you walk over to the bathroom to brush your teeth. After you finish brushing and flossing, you hum to yourself as you shuffle through your cabinets for an outfit for the day. It's routine by now: choosing your outfit, putting on your makeup, getting your briefcase ready.
As you walk out your door, you realize that seeing Erwin at the office is probably going to be a bit... awkward. Him dropping formalities at last night's dinner wasn't unlike how he was back when the two of you used to take your lunch breaks together so you didn't waste any energy questioning it, but you have no idea how he's going to act at work.
You're not opposed to the possibility of becoming closer—Erwin is a good work superior, a good friend—but even if he does start getting warmer, you still have to worry about him snitching on your client to upper management. There's already enough paperwork as is, and having even more of it is something you don't want to have to deal with right now.
You try not to worry about all of that as you hop on the bus after the short walk down from your apartment. After greeting the bus driver "good morning" and taking a seat at the back, you take out your phone and aimlessly scroll the various SNS you have installed.
In the middle of a random video you were watching, you get a notification from Hange. You tap on the little icon at the top of your screen, not being able to see the attached message, and to your confusion, it's a screenshot of a conversation between them and someone who's nicknamed 'Shorty' on their phone. You don't even bother reading the conversation, instead swiping down from the screenshot and quickly typing out a response to Hange themselves.
You - 7:32 AM
wtf why did you send me this???
You don't need to wait for even a moment before Hange replies, the dots on your screen appearing just seconds after you text them.
Hange - 7:33 AM
Just read it!!!! :D
You - 7:33 AM
no that's weird why would you send this to me www
Hange - 7:33 AM
BECAUSE I need you to read it B)
You - 7:34 AM
this is an invasion of privacy yk sharing private dms to a third party i can get you sent to prison
The three dots you expect to see don't appear, and so you quickly type out another message for them.
You - 7:35 AM
that was a joke hange i'm not gonna send you to prison
You sigh at the continued silence, taking a look outside at the window across from where you were sitting. You hear a faint beep and look back at your phone. Instead of a text, you see a play button and an accompanying audio bar. Rolling your eyes, you go for the side pocket of your briefcase to get your earbuds and connect them to your phone to hear the message without disturbing others on the bus.
Hange - 7:37 AM
"Well, since you're not going to read the screenshot I sent you, I'll just tell you what it says. Ok, ok, so last night, I drove Levi home, right? And when I got home after, I texted him, and I was all, like-oh, yeah, I know, you're too nice to send anyone to jail, that's kinda your thing-anyway! I asked him, like, 'is it cool if Astraea starts hanging out with us?' You know, because you're my best friend and I obviously want you to hang out with everyone, but also, I'm trying to set you up! And he was all like, 'why don't you ask the group chat, Four Eyes,' and I was like, 'just answer the question!' And guess what he said! Guess!"
The voice message ends there.
You probably would've cared more about what they had to say if you had spent some time thinking about Levi at all after dinner, but, again, it's a Monday, and you really can't care to be bothered about something like this right now. You bring your phone up closer towards your lips after holding on the voice recording button on your screen, speaking quietly into the microphone.
"Hange, I'm not going to guess. Please, I'm about to get to work, you're probably getting ready too. That's the end of it," you pause. "Also, I don't send people to jail because, for the millionth time, I'm a family attorney."
Hange - 7:42 AM
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, if that's how you wanna avoid this. I'm gonna tell you anyway! He said, and I quote, 'I-'"
Before you can hear what Hange has to tell you, you tap the play icon and pause the recording, not wanting to hear. At times like these, they tend have a (to be generous) distant relationship with the truth. It's not worth it to know, anyway, now that you're determined to just be friends with Levi; you don't need Hange getting you excited over things like this.
The bus announces your stop a stoplight away, so you tuck away your phone and earbuds into your pocket so you don't have to worry about having to do it while getting off the bus. Once it stops, you say a quick "thank you" to the driver and head over to the firm's building.
When you're through the doors and in the lobby, you spot Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, all of them coming from the entrance at the other end of the hall. They all greet you with big smiles and waves before meeting you halfway right in front of the elevator. When it opens for you and you all enter, Armin leans over to press the button for the 8th floor while you and Mikasa stand towards the back of the elevator.
"How was your weekend, Astraea?" She asks, looking over at you as the door closes. Eren and Armin don't turn towards the back to face you, but you're sure they're listening from where they are.
"It was a bit stressful, but it was alright," you answer, smiling to reassure her. She doesn't seem to want to press you on it, trusting that you'd tell her if you wanted to, but Eren doesn't quite get the memo.
"What happened? You accidentally used salted butter in your cupcakes or something?" He jokes with a chuckle.
"Eren, that's not nice," Armin says, lightly bumping his elbow against Eren's side. He turns to where you and Mikasa are, shooting you a sympathetic smile. "You don't have to tell us if you don't want to, we stress you out enough as is."
At that, you laugh and cover your mouth with your hand. The doors open again, the 8 button now flashing to tell you you're on the right floor, and you all step out before they close in on you.
"Armin, it's okay, it's my job to watch out for you guys. Well, just Mikasa, but you guys too," you start, looking around the office to try and find Erwin. You should probably talk to him before he can talk to someone higher up in the chain in command. "I'll tell you at lunch, yeah?"
They seem satisfied enough with that suggestion, and once you spot Erwin, you tell them to have a good start to their workday and go over to him. He spots you before you get the chance to greet him, and he nods at you, not able to wave with his briefcase in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other.
"Good morning, Erwin," you greet, looking up at him now that he's closer to you.
"Good morning to you too. Need me for something?" You nod, and he tilts his head towards his office. "We can talk in there, let me set my things down."
You walk with him over to his office, opening the door for the both of you.
"Close the door, would you?"
He silently puts down his coffee and briefcase, motioning for you to sit at the seat opposite of his own behind his desk. The little jar at the corner of the table brings a small smile to your face. He notices your eye on it and picks it up, rattling it a bit to see the little paper trinkets move around.
"I assume you want to talk about what was brought up yesterday," he starts, not meeting your gaze and instead keeping his eyes on the jar. You sigh and tense up in your chair, not wanting to accidentally say or do anything out of place.
"About that, could you not bring it up with anyone? I'd really appreciate if you just kept it between us."
Erwin moves to put the jar down, looking at you with steely eyes. You shrink back even further into the seat, fearful of what he has to say.
"Is that really what you want?"
You nod, breaking your gaze on him to look down at your lap.
"I know I should've came clean about it after it happened, but I handled it just fine. I don't want the higher-ups to think I can't-"
Erwin interrupts with a chuckle, taking a sip of his coffee. "Are we talking about the same thing?"
"You were pretty adamant about getting me to report that client to management. If you were thinking about something else, I wouldn't know."
"If that's what you're here to talk about, then you don't need to worry. I respect your decision not to report it. I shouldn't have pressed during dinner, so accept my apology."
You let out a sigh of relief, finally letting your shoulders drop.
"Thank you, Erwin. I promise I'll come to you if something else like that happens again."
Erwin hums in approval before opening his briefcase, a stack of papers in his hand now outstretched to you. You shoot him a look of confusion but get up from your seat to get a better look at what he's holding. When you don't move to take it from him, he nudges it forwards toward you.
"...What is this for?"
"Your paperwork for the day," he says. You hesitantly take it from him and flip through the pages with your thumb and pointer finger. It's a lot thicker than the stack you usually get, but it is indeed your paperwork. Usually, the interns around the office would hand papers out to everyone after their stint at the printer every morning. You remember Petra telling you, though, that Erwin, who was always the first one in the office, always printed out his own things to avoid his documents getting mixed up with someone else's. Why would he print yours for you?
"Why are you being so nice to me?" The question comes out before you can think. Realizing your mistake, you look to another part of the room to avoid making eye contact. "Sorry, that was out of line."
For another time, Erwin chuckles and takes out his own papers for the day now that his hands are free.
"I suppose dinner made me think of when I first started here, and I'm feeling nostalgic," he says. The look on your face reads as skeptical, so he continues with a smile. "And as much as you try telling me it's fine, I still feel guilty about giving away your parking space."
You shake your head, a quiet red making its way up to your face in embarrassment. Is he ever gonna let this whole parking situation go? You guess it's fine he hasn't. "It's okay, I really am fine taking the bus."
He laughs, shaking his head in response. "I'm sure you are. By the way, how are the interns doing? I've noticed that they tend to spend a lot of time with you, but I hadn't had the time to ask about their performance yet with you privately."
You smile at the thought of the three of them, a warm feeling settling into your chest. "They're doing well, getting stuff done. I know I'm only officially in charge of mentoring Mikasa, but I'd be glad to write all their performance reports once their internships are over." He nods in approval.
"That won't be necessary, but I appreciate your initiative."
"It's hardly initiative. They're all good kids," you praise. After the last couple of months you spent getting to know them, you hope that they all get offered positions after their designated time is over, just as you did after your own internship.
Unlike you, however, it'd be impossible for them to all stay here in your department.
You and the other seasoned attorneys on your floor were already told that there was only enough in the budget to allow for one more full-time member on the family floor by the time Eren, Mikasa, and Armin were finished with their internships (hence why nobody aside from you really made much of an effort to get attached to them).
Petra did tell you a month or so ago that someone on the financial law floor had quit very suddenly (which gave Oluo more work to complain about), so maybe one of them could go for that, but it pains you to know that they'd eventually be split apart.
"I'm sure they are. Productivity has been better since they started." Getting out his glasses, he yawns behind his hand before glancing over at you. "You're welcome to leave, if there's nothing else."
"No, that was all. And, uh, thank you for my papers."
He smiles, and it seems to reach his eyes. "It's not any inconvenience," he pauses. "Knowing Hange, they'll be bringing you along more often. I look forward to seeing you more outside of work, Astraea." After the two of you bid each other farewell and you put the papers into your briefcase, you turn to open the door and head back to your own office. To your surprise, however, Mikasa, Eren, and Armin are all there, seemingly waiting for you.
"What're you still doing here?" Ordinarily, the three of them would go straight for the printer once they got to the floor, so it's a bit strange that they wouldn't be there right now.
"Why'd you go into Erwin's office?" Eren asks, earning him a shove from Mikasa. "What? We all wanted to know!"
Armin sighs at Eren's comment. "It isn't our business, Eren. We're sorry, we were just waiting to ask if you wanted a drink from the breakroom since Mikasa needs to put her lunch in the fridge before we head to the printer."
"Okay, then, I wanted to know," Eren rephrases.
Looking around the office, you see that there's quite a few people here already—enough that you don't want to say anything about it until you're back at your office. The paperwork you have for today just from the regularly distributed items is already more than enough to keep you busy this morning, so you decide that waiting until lunch to tell them about everything is the better idea. You start heading to your office, the three of them following closely behind you.
"It's okay to be nosy, Eren. I'll just tell you during break—I have a lot to do this morning," you tell them, getting a small laugh from Mikasa. "Could you brew a pot of chrysanthemum tea for me?"
Eren groans at the mention of the drink, getting yet another shove from one of his friends.
"I tried some the last time you had me brew it. It tastes like shit! How could you like it?" You hurriedly shush Eren, looking to make sure none of your coworkers heard him.
"How many times have I told you not to cuss at work? You're lucky that it's a Monday and everyone in here is a zombie right now."
"That was rude, Eren. Apologize," Mikasa chastises.
"No."
You roll your eyes at him, going for the doorknob now that you're in front of your office.
"I'm gonna get you fired. Anyway, I'll see you during lunch, go be productive or something."
Before you exchange waves with them, you step inside and get your teapot and the small container of dried chrysanthemum petals to give to Mikasa. Once they're back en route to the breakroom, you head back inside, sighing as you move to sit at your chair, set down your briefcase, and get your laptop out.
You go through the same motions you have for the last 3 years: responding to emails, reviewing cases from the past week, looking at new cases sent from upper management and Erwin. In the middle of replying to someone inquiring about meeting times, Mikasa comes in with your teapot and sets it down at your table. You thank her, and she moves to sit at the desk adjacent to yours.
When she first started working here, you would try and force conversation, not sure if she was comfortable working on her own yet. It was... really awkward, but as the two of you spent more time together, it got easier. No longer did you need to try and fill the silence—it just became a comfortable quiet.
You like to think that she's gotten used to working, you assigning her tasks as you see fit for her and her occasionally asking you questions about anything related to working at the firm.
You keep your teacups in the bottom drawer of your desk, so you roll out with your chair to grab them. You pour yourself a cup of tea and wordlessly ask Mikasa if she'd like one, to which she shakes her head. After you take a sip, she speaks up.
"It said your documents for the day were already printed when we went to do it earlier. Did you start working over the weekend?" Mikasa asks you. You check the time at the corner of your screen; 8:49 AM.
"No, Erwin got them for me before I got here."
"Why? I know that you're friends with him, but I don't remember him ever doing that before."
You nod. You'll tell her about yesterday's dinner with Erwin, Hange, and Levi later, but, right now, you're both too busy to have any sort of girl talk. "Yeah, I used to be the one giving him his papers, ironically enough. He said something about still feeling bad about having me give up my parking spot."
"I thought he was over that. He stopped coming around here a while ago."
"I guess he isn't over it."
12:00 PM comes around soon enough, and you're grateful that it does because your hand cramps from all the typing and writing you had to do. You walk with Mikasa over to the breakroom for her to grab her lunch and for you to heat up some food you brought from home. You don't quite have the energy to make any small talk and Mikasa seems to be still unreeling from her work, so both of you are silent as you get your lunches ready. When you're back at your office, Armin and Eren are already inside, having rolled in their chairs from the main floor.
Once you and Mikasa are seated and the door is locked, the four of you eat in silence for a good ten-or-so minutes. Eren's the first to finish, and so after he throws away his trash, he comes back and starts the conversation.
"So, was I right about the salted butter?"
"Yes, I'm so stressed out about using the wrong butter that it ruined my entire weekend." You roll your eyes. "Hange invited me to dinner, and I went yesterday."
With Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, you were less careful with names, knowing that they were much less inclined to try and look them up online unlike Hange. They all nod, albeit looking a bit confused.
"Isn't Hange your best friend? What's so bad about going to dinner with them?" Armin asks. You groan and dramatically melt onto the table, making a scene.
"They wanted to introduce me to their friends, so I met them."
"Were they weird?" Mikasa inquires, looking at you from her seat.
"No, not really. But one of them was Erwin."
To that, all three of them freeze for a second. Armin's the first to speak.
"Is that why you were in his office this morning?"
You nod. "I made a joke about that client from last week. You know, the one that cursed out me and Mikasa?" They nod. "I just wanted to make sure he wouldn't file a report on my behalf. I really don't need the paperwork."
"Is he different outside of work? I don't think I could imagine him as anyone other than he is when we're in the office," says Mikasa. You shrug, taking another sip of your tea.
"Not really. A bit funnier, but he still acts the same, more or less."
"Who else was there?"
You opt to not tell them about Levi being someone you knew before yesterday, not wanting a (less intense) repeat of Friday's conversation with Hange.
"There was only one other guy, he said he's a professor over at Sina." Before any of them can ask other questions, you hear a knock at the door. "Who is it?"
"It's Erwin," the voice says back. You get up to unlock the door, looking back at the interns with your pointer finger over your lips to shush them. They all motion zipping their lips, and you smile back at them. When you open the door, it's still hiding the interns behind you, but you can hear them shifting around to get a better look at your interaction.
"Did you need anything?" He nods.
"Do you have any tea in your office? The breakroom's out." You look at the interns who look back at you in confusion, wondering why he's here instead of getting lunch somewhere else.
"I thought you didn't drink tea," you comment, opening the door further to let Erwin into the room. He follows you inside, staying near the doorframe while you go to your desk to get the basket of teas out of your cabinet and set it on your desk. He doesn't pay any attention to the other three in the room, instead looking directly at you.
"It's not for me, Levi's here to have lunch with me."
At the mention of Levi, you take a sharp breath in. You're past the initial overwhelming blush that normally overtakes your face when you're in Levi's presence, but you're sure that your ears are beginning to turn red, so you immediately move to hide them, feigning fixing your hair. The thought that he's here is a bit daunting, considering you might run into him, but you try to ignore that to save face in front of Eren, Mikasa, and Armin.
"Oh, well, um.. What kind of tea does he like?"
Erwin comes a bit closer to get a look at what variety you have. "He likes bitter things, but I'm not sure what exactly he likes. What would you suggest?"
You move around a few containers and riffle through packets before deciding on a yellow canister.
"How's dandelion root?"
You hold it out to Erwin, and he happily accepts it. "Sounds good to me. Thank you, I'll have him come by with me on his way out."
At the suggestion, you scratch the back of your neck before laughing anxiously.
"There's no need, I'll probably be busy."
"Nonsense, it'll take a minute. I can drop off the rest of your tea, too."
Just like with Hange, you know you can't keep Erwin from getting what he wants. You smile at him, bitterly giving him a thumbs-up. You can hear Eren snicker at the interaction, followed by a "please be quiet" from Mikasa. You're going to have so much fun getting grilled about this. Soon enough, Erwin's walking out of your office. You groan as you go over to close the door again, slumping into your chair afterwards.
"Are you okay?" Mikasa asks first, followed quickly with Armin asking the same thing. In a pathetic attempt to hide your face, you pour yourself another cup of tea and take a big sip, coughing afterwards from the aftertaste.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm good."
"Seriously, what was that? Is Erwin pulling the moves on you?" Eren sure is getting smacked around a lot today, but you suppose he deserves it.
"If I had to guess, it's that Levi person Erwin mentioned that gets Astraea all flustered," says Armin. Mikasa nods, agreeing with him.
God, there it is again. Your heart beats just that tiny bit faster, thinking about Levi.
"Is he the professor you were talking about? Hange's friend?" Mikasa asks. You nod slowly, an exaggerated tight-lipped smile on your face.
"Yep. I probably don't even need to say anything." You groan again in excess, putting your head down on the table. Mikasa gives you a good-natured pat on the back. "My heart isn't prepared."
"Is it so bad for you to like someone?" asks Armin. You lift your head a bit, looking at him briefly before slumping back down.
"Yeah, you've been single for a while, right?" says Eren.
"I don't like him. He's just really hot," you lament, voice slightly muffled. "And I've never had a boyfriend before, so you could say that." You don't look up to see their reactions, but you hope they're at least surprised someone as successful as you has never been in a relationship before.
Armin, seeing your obvious discomfort, shifts the conversation over to his own weekend and pokes fun at Eren for giving bad directions to their destination, and you four spend the rest of lunch talking about anything and everything that comes to mind. At 1:00 PM, you boot Eren and Armin from your office (lovingly) so you and Mikasa can go back to work. It takes a while for the two of you to get back in the groove, but after about half an hour, things are running as smoothly as they usually are.
"I'm going to the bathroom," says Mikasa, getting up from her seat.
"Don't fall in!" You tease, smiling up from your paperwork for a second. She rolls her eyes before going to open the door. You expect to hear it close shortly after, but instead you hear Erwin.
"Good afternoon, Mikasa," he greets cordially. You immediately forget about whatever papers you're in the process of reviewing and look up to see Mikasa awkwardly looking up at Erwin with her hand still on the doorknob.
"Good afternoon." Not wanting to entertain any chance of small talk, she opens the door wider and sneaks past Erwin for the bathroom.
Good grief, why is Levi even here? He's right there, standing next to Erwin with his hands in his pockets. Thank goodness Erwin is the one to speak first.
"Thanks again for the tea!" Erwin exclaims, positively beaming. He seems to be in a better mood than he was earlier, speaking more freely now. You nod at him, unsure if you're meant to get up and actually get the tea from where he's currently standing. He makes the decision for you, stepping in and coming up to your desk. He waves Levi over, and you try your best to avoid making eye contact with either of them by fiddling with your teapot.
"It's no problem, I have more than enough to share," you say, which isn't a lie. All of your coworkers prefer coffee, so the breakroom is mostly stocked with that instead. The person previously in Erwin's position liked tea well enough to keep some there, but after they moved up the ladder, nobody ever bothered to restock the supply. After you drank through the rest of what was left behind, you decided to just bring some from home to keep some in your personal office.
Erwin looks between you and Levi, and you assume he wants you to greet each other.
"It's good to see you, Levi."
"Yeah, you too." You look up from the teapot to see Erwin still expectantly looking at you.
"How'd you like the tea?" You ask.
"It was fine," Levi says, looking around your office. Erwin chuckles, the smile on his face getting bigger.
"He loved it! He even took a picture of the label," says Erwin. You blush a bit at that, feeling a bit flustered he liked the tea that much. "Oh, speaking of, I forgot it in my office. Let me go grab it." And with that, you and Levi are left alone for the first time. Well, maybe not the first time; Hange and Erwin aren't there when you're on the bus, but there's other people there too. Yeah, this is the first time you've ever been alone with him.
"I'm glad you liked it, the tea. It's one of my favorites." He hums in response, now settling to look at your teapot.
"What tea have you been drinking?"
"Chrysanthemum." He seems a bit awkward, standing in the middle of the room, so you decide to take out your basket of teas to show him. You motion him to come closer and take a look. "You can take a couple to try, if you'd like."
He doesn't seem to be in much of a mood to talk, but that's fine. Good for you, even, since you don't have to overthink everything that he says. He takes well to looking through your collection, stopping every couple of seconds to read the labels. There's quite a lot to get through, the basket being about the size of a briefcase, but he takes his time, seemingly looking at everything.
"Why are all of these caffeine-free?" He asks, stepping a step back, probably to tell you he's done looking. You're a bit disappointed he doesn't end up taking anything, but you try not to take it personally; he probably doesn't want to seem rude taking something from someone he hardly knows.
"My mom didn't want me getting addicted to it, so I wasn't allowed any when I lived at home. I think I just grew to be too cautious of it."
He scoffs, and, for a second, you think he's going to insult you.
"Can your mom go back in time and raise Hange too? They're always hopped up on caffeine, I don't know how their brain still functions."
You giggle at that, covering your face with your hand. He isn't wrong—Hange probably drinks more coffee than water.
"Even with all the coffee, somehow I still think that's just how they are."
Suddenly, Erwin comes back into the room a bit out of breath, the container of dandelion root tea in his hand.
"Sorry I took so long, I ran into someone on the way," he apologizes, putting it on your desk.
You look between him, Levi, and the canister. You realize that if Levi liked the tea enough to take a picture of it, surely he wanted to buy it for himself, right? You don't know what spirit, entity, whatever compels you to do this, but you pick up the container and hold it out towards Levi. He stares back at you, probably confused as all hell. You're also confused, honestly—an hour ago, you probably would've leapt at any chance to go across town just to avoid making eye contact with him, but right now, you feel a bit calmer than usual when you're near him. Though, like usual, your face and ears feel a bit hot.
"Are you giving it to me?" He asks.
You nod. "Yeah."
"You literally just said it was one of your favorites."
"That means I have other favorites!" You smile at him. "I'll feel better if someone else gets to enjoy it, anyway. Nobody else here appreciates tea."
Hesitantly, Levi takes it from you. Erwin looks a bit surprised at your exchange, but otherwise, he looks just as he normally does. He checks his watch before looking back at you.
"Levi's got an appointment soon, so we better get going now. Again, Astraea, sorry for taking so long!"
You nod in understanding, waving at them from where you're sitting. Erwin's the first to leave the room, as Levi lingers a bit, looking back and forth between you and the door.
"How much is it? I can pay you back," he says, deciding to keep his eyes on you. How ironic—you were the same way last night with him, except now you're not ready to faint just thinking about his face.
"Don't worry about it. I'm a lawyer, you think I can't pay for some tea?" He sarcastically laughs at you, his face staying completely deadpan throughout. You smile again and motion towards your office door. "Enjoy it for me, yeah?"
He nods. "Thank you, I will."
Without saying any "goodbyes," he's soon out the door, and you're finally able get back to your paperwork.
You don't question why Mikasa takes nearly 30 minutes to come back from the bathroom, but you suspect that she was talking to Eren and Armin for some part of that time. She doesn't question the smile that's stuck on your face either, but she knows it has something to do with the short professor that's holding a yellow canister in his hand as he walks with Erwin to the elevator.

Hi Brandi! I'm sorry if this is random but I could really use some advice because I've gotten a couple of out of pocket anons and I'm kind of frustrated. Basically just anons like "Erwin is trans but you made him so edgy when he's soft :(," "Erwin's cute for a trans guy," and even a lot of "Why did you make Erwin trans?" Is this a thing on simblr? I've been so close to making a post but don't want to start drama! I'm just... tired. Sorry to bother you, I just didn't know who else to ask. <3
(i wrote this whole thing and then realized i’ve been assuming you’re cis this whole time, i’m really sorry if that’s not the case!! i think the advice still holds up no matter who’s reading this though)
ugh yeah unfortunately i’ve gotten similar messages about stevie. you have to learn how to decide whether the message you received is a good faith critique (whether you agree with it or not), or just plain hateful rhetoric, or a question out of nothing more than curiosity. it’s easy to disregard the blatantly bigoted questions, but sometimes people will phrase things in an ambiguous way. in those cases, i try to really focus on what the person is asking or commenting on. would they ask the same question of a cis character? would they notice the same things about a cis character? would they hold the same opinions about this character if they were cis? is there any validity to what this person is critiquing my writing for? (in this case, the best thing you can do is ask a trans person for advice. i’m lucky enough to have trans friends irl who don’t mind me asking questions, but there are plenty of people online who would also be willing to chat if you look!). it’s important to keep your mind open to the fact that you might actually be making a mistake, or portraying something inaccurately, etc. and you can correct yourself if you need to. but if the criticism is patently not valid, just block them and move on. don’t even give them the pleasure of a response!
i would also say it’s a good idea to set your boundaries now and stick to them. for example, i already know that because stevie is a minor, i’m not going to answer any questions about bottom surgery or her sex life, both of which have been asked about WAY too many times (way, way more than any of the other characters around her age). i also choose not to engage with people who hate stevie for thinly veiled reasons. it’s perfectly okay to dislike a character, and i don’t mind you expressing this to me, but i’ve gotten pretty good at realizing when people are genuinely criticizing stevie vs. looking for reasons to hate her because they won’t just come out and say the transphobic shit they want to say.
tldr: if it’s a bad faith criticism, straight up ignore it! don’t respond in any way, it’ll just stoke the flames. if you’re not sure what the anon’s intentions were, give them the benefit of the doubt by asking them to clarify before you give them any kind of response. i’ve found that most of the time when an anon has to explain what they meant by something, it’s usually a genuine misunderstanding that gets cleared up easily. i hope that helps!! 💖

Hi Lost!
I've been in the eruri fandom relatively recently, yet I found myself very much in what you and someone else said on Twitter about not feeling connected to the new turn taken by the fandom. While I still enjoy the amazing fanworks, sometimes it's hard to find people who share my vision of the dynamics and characterisation of these two characters.
My question is: how do you think it has changed from a few years ago?
Unfortunately, I didn't live through the 'golden age' of the time when Erwin was still alive in the manga/anime, but having read a considerable amount of fanfiction (especially the good old ones), I couldn't help but notice a huge change in the interpretation of the characters, especially on Twitter. I'm pretty sure that the popularity of certain headcanons is a result of the "Twitter dynamics", since I noticed it happen in other fandoms as well - sometimes it was necessary to take a step back and enjoy my characters and ships in a small corner to not ruin my love for them.
Sorry to bother you (and sorry for my English!), I'm very curious to know your opinion!
Anon asked:
Hello Lost! I noticed the talk on twitter regarding the Eruri fandom having changed and I would love to get your insight on this. I’m one of the newer fans (only a year) so my perspective isn’t as broad. I do personally have noticed sides of the fandom where their traits are represented differently, but I felt like the overall perception is Eruri being a very healthy, loving and balanced ship. Just the perfect one really <3 I love your works and hope you don’t feel alienated!
I hope you don’t mind me answering these two asks together, because they’re both referring to a slightly throw away comment I made in response to a friend on twitter yesterday about how the current popular interpretation of the characters is very different from the one I fell in love with.
Before I go any further, this absolutely isn’t about policing anyone’s interpretation of the characters.  There is no “right” or “wrong” way to write Erwin and Levi’s characters, fandom is all about transformative works.  Everyone is free to read and write whatever they want and I would absolutely encourage them to do so.  The Eruri fandom is a big diverse space, and it’s been amazing to see the new influx of fans over the last couple of years.  I’m sure we’ll be welcoming even more when the final season of the anime starts airing.
Understandably though, the fandom’s perception(s) of the characters has changed and evolved over time as the canon storylines developed. Once the manga ended though, and plot lines and character arcs were resolved (more or less), characters were freed from the canon storyline and characterisation to some extent.  Fandom has always been about transformation so it’s to be expected that popular fanon characterization will drift from canon over time once the source material has ended.  That’s not necessarily a bad thing, it just means that the popularity of different tropes can differ wildly depending on the point that you join a particular fandom. For example it wasn’t uncommon for Erwin to be portrayed as cold, ruthless and manipulative in the early days of the fandom, which is hardly surprising because there wasn’t a great deal to go on. Once Isayama really started exploring his character from the Uprising Arc onwards, he tended to be portrayed much more sympathetically and with greater depth. More recently, ruthless manipulative Erwin tropes have had a resurgence of popularity in Marley set fics. I’m not a huge fan of this trope because it kinda gives me dejavu, but I can appreciate why other fans enjoy exploring it.  It’s just not for me.
If change is inevitable in fandom, so is nostalgia.  Whenever you join an active fandom, there’s always a bit of a feeling that you’ve missed out on the glory days.  At the same time, as the fandom moves on, you’re likely to find yourself harking back to your own glory days.  I think this is also why there is a tendency to feel that a fandom is “dying” when in actual fact it’s usually just changing.
From my perspective, I came to the SnK in late 2015 and followed the manga and related canon content from about chapter 78 onwards, so Midnight Sun and the serum bowl was one of the defining moments of the fandom for me.  It irrevocably coloured my perception of Erwin and Levi’s relationship with each other, and also their relationship to the Shiganshina Trio. Though I would never want to live through that pain again, I can’t help having a fondness for fics that were written around that time.  I also freely confess to being very picky, and a bit stuck in my ways when it comes to the fic I read and write. I tend to read fics I love over and over again, which is one of the reasons I’ve always felt I’m the absolute worst person to be doing fic recs!
Anyway, thank you both for your kind asks, you're both very sweet.  I have no doubt that the Eruri fandom will continue changing and evolving, and I hope you enjoy your time here with this amazing ship. Whether I’m in step or out of step with the popular tropes of the day doesn’t greatly matter, I’m just going to be here doing my thing for a little while longer at least.
PS @stand-on-the-horizon I forgot to add, I think you're absolutely right about the effect of "Twitter dymanics" on the ubiquity of certain character tropes. And I also agree 1000% that fandom is best experienced by finding a small group of weirdos who enjoy the same characterisation, kinks and tropes as you and hanging out with them.

Attack on Titan - Season 3 A predictably long commentary and an unnecessarily long pre-analysis of s4.
(*full manga spoilers. so many spoilers. ending spoilers. all the spoilers.)
-hmmm the op is on point and also very melancholy
-he iS SO EXTRA, eren is, even when his duty is cleaning he's all RAWR CLEANING ARGH KYAAA
-i love how aot is sometimes "we interrupt your regular slaughter and depression for a levi-loves-cleaning infomercial"
-i understand it's a 2019 production and therefore by default improved, but everything looks so much richer and detailed and i just HOW DO I SOAK IT ALL IN
-what i'm getting from the levi vs kenny sequences is that someone on the animation team really REALLY loves levi. as they should ofc
-i love the moment in the op when child eren bumps into teen eren, i love it. and i love all the eren-mikasa-armin moments.
-i suppose it'll never not hurt seeing eren in chains
-completely unrelated, but i want everyone to remember that paradis went from thinking they were the last of humanity to having to deal with an entire world of nations that are 100% set on exterminating them. and they have four years to adjust to this shocking change of mindset, and to history and politics that's been known to everyone else for hundreds of years, and deal with it accordingly. they are not equipped for this. they don't have the knowledge, experience or background to know how to handle this.
-in the manga i started squabbling with eren at this point, during his 'i should just die' arc, but the VA is so good that i just can't get irritated
-the worst girl in the world <3
-also the way the VA acts eren's "EAT ME!" breakdown in the cave reminds me so so much of ch.139 eren that it makes me smile. like, ah yes. i see it. i understand. my crybaby baby.
-HAHAHA, Historia "Sure, I'll be the queen," haaaa. took a step back from having levi terrorize her, did you now.
-keith shadis to eren: "the fire you lit in your heart will no doubt burn you to ashes outside the walls." what a fine day to cry over aot again.
-YOU CAN SEE SPECKS OF DUST FLOATING IN THE SUNLIGHT IN THE BACKGROUND WHAT! WHAT!!
-i enjoy eren and jean's bickering so much omg.
-i think i'll always have a soft spot for the night before shiganshina chapter bc of the manga. it was such a relief to read it at that point.
-MIKASA AND ARMIN SMILING IN THE BACKGROUND AS EREN AND JEAN BEAT EACH OTHER UP STOP I LOVE THEM
-eren to armin and mikasa: "but would it kill you guys to look out for me better?" i love that. i love that he just says that, that their bond is so deep that looking out for each other is their baseline.
-technically eren did see the world with armin... technically :')
-susume :') :'( . dude, the s3 animation is so well-made though
-ARMIN AND HIS BOOK MADE EREN REALIZE HE WASN'T FREE, ARMIN IS EREN'S VILLAIN ORIGIN STORY PART 2! (/joke)
-it's kinda amazing how mikasa and armin are both the people who know eren the best, AND how they are completely blindsided because of it. which makes sense - yes, they didn't question eren's depression, but they also didn't have eren's facts; they assumed he was in a state similar to theirs. they did live together day in day out after all, why would they assume eren was experiencing something entirely different than what they were, especially when he's never hidden things from them before?
-IT'S SO DAMN SATISFYING SEEING THEM FLY!
-ERWIN KILLS IT IN SHIGANSHINA ASFJDF
-i'm pumping my fist again with this op
-i randomly heard hiroshi kamiya's actual voice, and my genuine reaction was "???". how... how does he do levi's voice, h...
-i am once again flabbergasted that armin didn't put eren in his place through facts and logic on their time-skip fight. armin is literally like STOP THE PRESSES, WE'RE NEGOTIATING WITH BERTOLT FIRST in shiganshina, this isn't a post-colossus thing, it's just armin, and eren knows this full well. and yet once again it comes down to how blindsided armin and mikasa were. it’s almost like they trust eren so much that his words give them actual pause, like “is he right?”
-i know technically mikasa is beyblade number too, but i think the parallel is armin=erwin and jean=levi rn. bc jean tells armin, "i'm all right at reading situations, but i don't have the faintest idea how we can get out of this. we're still ultimately relying on you for a plan" and i think that's a very levi thing. only, levi would add piss and shit remarks for good measure.
-i can see why people call the shiganshina part of the anime peak and i haven't even reached the injection part yet.
-"GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAM AND DIE"
-daisuke ono kills it this season. he's magnificent.
-floch: "why am i alive?" me: to torture us post-time skip.
-dude this is so good, the animation and the VAs are killing it. also armin just sacrificed everything for eren, and legit post-time skip eren said 'hold my beer. you'll sacrifice your life for me? i'll give my life AND everyone else's too to save you, specifically (and a few other people)."
-aaah, eren knew armin first, then got to know mikasa, he's wearing The Scarf(TM), okay.
-levi's distress hits hard. dude THE VAs ARE KILLING IT.
-floch's right on the money though. the thing that defeats the titans *is* a demon of sorts, and he did survive to help do just that
-i love being reminded of eren's breakdowns and his expression during the breakdowns and i love how yuki kaji acts them out, they are exactly ch.139 eren (and this means a lot to me)
-double date in the basement~~~ (i'm sorry, idk what i'm saying, i'm sorry)
-yeah, basically, it’s all about the fact that nothing can stop violence. king fritz tried to stop violence through enforced/fake peace - didn’t work. talking it out wouldn’t work, deterrents wouldn’t work. eren tried to stop violence through violence - didn’t work (he secured his own goals for a time, but violence didn’t stop).
-why is aot so good? :')
-eren is such a good friend to armin, ffs (yes, yes, s4. i don't believe his friendship or the depth of it changed at all though, i don’t think anyone questions that.)
-eren is lifting armin up by telling him how there are infinite possibilities and freedom outside the walls, only to flashback to faye and such and realize there's no freedom to give to armin or to anyone outside the walls, there's only the world that wants their demise. armin is eren's villain origin story part 3. this has become a pattern, and third time's the charm.
-is it too bad that whenever i see birds i think of them as little erens
-yuki kaji. in the ocean scene. Perfection.
~~~
-Okay, so, to contextualize. Eren’s goals: 1) to exterminate all the Titans, 2) to be free, 3) a long life and happiness for his friends, even at the cost of his life. So at this point, in the sea sequence, Eren has seen glimpses of future events and knows that he will do the Rumbling. He does not know the concept of Mikasa’s Choice yet, just a few events out of context that will lead to the end of the Titans, which will lead to freedom. He hasn’t decided to do it, doesn’t know how he’s led to do it. He keeps this a secret. He tries to find alternatives, and low-key wants an out by letting Mikasa choose for him when he asks her what she is to him. But in the end there’s no alternative. It’s unclear when he realizes that he’ll be stopped on his 80%, but either way he means to or expects to be stopped at some point, because he wants to make his friends heroes from the get-go. He would go through with the 100% if left to his own devices because he wants to do it on a personal level, but he also knows it’s wrong and feels regret for the individual people that he considered enemies but now has gotten to know as people, despite the fact that it’ll give him what he wants (seen even post-Marley, when he tells his depressed self in the mirror to fight, seen in his reaction to Hange which I never saw as anything but despair- although screw you, Eren, don’t treat them like that); and the fact that he wants to make his friends heroes takes precedence.
From hereon, he presumably continues to receive memories, and his head gets progressively messed up because he’s lived parts of the past and future while living in the present.
Noteworthy is that Eren did not push away his friends pre-Marley. Before that, he was with them, albeit depressed, subdued and withdrawn; he lived and worked and traveled with them and made sure to make explicit how much he cares for them. His sudden leave must have blindsided them, but they still think that Eren is fully aligned with them. The major shift occurs after he comes back from Marley, where the world has specifically singled out him, Eren Yeager, as the biggest threat to humanity - not Paradis, Eren himself. Thus, Eren must become a completely separate entity from his ~precious friends, 1) to prevent them from becoming accomplices, prevent them from being dragged into his messes like they’ve done his whole life, bc they're supposed to be the heroes in all this, 2) to prevent them from stopping him too soon, 3) to convince them to fight him.
Another interesting thing is, Eren only fights with Armin and Mikasa once. When reading, I constantly perceived his stance as a personal offense on behalf of Armin and Mikasa, but technically, their personal fight only occurs once - after that, they’re just on opposing sides, it’s not personal. Considering he didn’t want to fight them and that he was very aware he was lying through his teeth, he purposely didn’t engage with them any more than he could bear, because I assume it wasn’t easy to fight them. But we’ll see how that plays out in s4, ‘cause my manga panels memories are hazy bc those arcs destroyed me.
So. In order for Eren to somewhat keep his sanity amidst overlapping timelines, a massacre that he dearly wants and deeply regrets, pushing away his closest people, wanting to make them heroes but not knowing if they’ll survive in the first place, becoming a mass murderer and the villain of the entire world, he regresses into a child form, where things are simpler.
And the reason I’m basically summarizing s4 here is to remind myself what to actually look out for before I get wrapped up in the tragedy of it all all over again :’D
Tumblr media
the way people got hooked on attack on titan was never really a mystery to you
the day you accepted to be part of this small project, the storyline made you realize that one day the show will definitely grow and it will become a big hit
and it happened sooner than you expected
"i think (name)'s character will get so much recognition this season," sasha said as she stared at the interviewer with a bright smile. she was all glammed up and so was everyone else. they all looked so good.
by everyone you meant : eren, armin, mikasa, jean, connie, sasha, erwin, levi, hange, reiner, zeke, porco and pieck.
"is there a reason behind this sudden recognition?"
"it's not sudden to be honest," eren spoke from the high chair behind you and you found yourself looking down at your exposed thighs with a smile. his responses were always genuine so it was nice to hear him talk about you.
"her character has always been shiny and there for everyone but this season, i would say there's a few changes here and there but I won't add anything to it," he wanted to avoid spoilers as much as he could. he didn't want to become the next tom holland.
"alright then (name)," you raised your head with a hum and a small smile. the questions you were asked always caught you off guard so you were hoping for a normal question.
"any steamy scenes this season?" god you wanted to crawl in a hole and die.
you didn't know if they did it on purpose, but they always wanted to make your character revolve around men, pleasing men or being with men and it bothered you a lot.
you let out an awkward chuckle, looking around at the audience who were clapping and eagerly waiting for your response, meanwhile your hands were getting sweatier and your heart was gonna beat out of your chest.
"that's not really a question related to her work," zeke was the one who broke the silence after the crowd stopped cheering and you looked back at him, a bit shocked.
"no but i was just wondering if-" "that's not what the show is about, right? the show is about fighting and risking your life, not about hooking up," zeke wanted to make the interviewer as uncomfortable as they made you feel and it seemed like it was working because they were suddenly laughing and shuffling through their cards awkwardly, all while avoiding looking at you.
"you can make it up by asking a normal question," armin said out of nowhere, his tone sounding a bit bitter and threatening. this was starting to feel like a sort of protection squad.
"okay okay then, (name) if you were to describe your chemistry with each one of them on set, how would you describe it?"
now that was a good question but you wanted to take your time.
you looked around everyone to make sure you get a good look, not missing the way hange, connie and sasha tried to hide everyone else so that you could look at them which caused laughter to roar from the audience.
"i think amongst everyone here, i would say everyone takes their work very seriously but i would put them in different groups: those who once they mess up one time, they will need a ten minute break because they can't stop laughing. can you guess who they are?" you turned to the audience, laughing when they pointed at the same trio who was trying to be the center of attention earlier.
"exactly, hange has this thing where if they push their glasses back you just know they're gonna laugh next" "HOW DO YOU EVEN NOTICE THAT"
"and sasha is the type to lean her entire body on you when she laughs, almost made me fall once, and then there's connie who always spits water on everyone and anyone. a mess,"
you went on with your description for a while, enjoying the reactions you were getting out of everyone, especially the little surprised look on levi's usual warm face. he didn't think you'd notice that he avoids drinking coffee on set because it makes him too hyper for his character.
or how pieck and mikasa are always cuddling on the couch, after filming a scene that isnt really that exhausting but it's cute. though you always find yourself in the middle of them, mikasa's head on your lap and pieck's on your shoulders making you feel like you were in a harem.
porco has this secret agreement to lift you up randomly in the middle of a scene just to hear your little squeal, something about the way you hold onto him and ask him to put you down makes his day.
reiner always fixes your hair in the middle of a scene. always. especially if it's getting in your way and you're having a hard time speaking because it's in your mouth.
jean and eren have this agreement to startle you whenever you walk out of your changing room. you did try to kill them for it but they know you love them too much.
zeke and armin were like your chill lunch break buddies. they definitely chatted but they were the ones you felt most comfortable sitting in silence with.
that summed up your interactions with them and how you felt being around them. they were indeed like family to you.
good thing no one suspected that you and a fellow actor there definitely had something going on.
Wedding Day ! | 𝕳𝖊𝖆𝖉𝖈𝖆𝖓𝖓𝖔𝖓𝖘
Fluff & NSFW headcanons on your wedding day/night with some of the AOT boys!
Tumblr media
! Slight NSFW !
Warnings: Alcohol, mentions of sex, pregnancy. Fem ! reader.
Majority of this is fluff, but there are mentions of !BEEP! sooo yeah.
Characters: Armin, Eren, Erwin, Jean, Levi
a/n: I have to take my SAT tomorrow, please wish your girl good luck for those sweet, sweet good grades....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝕬𝖗𝖒𝖎𝖓 𝕬𝖗𝖑𝖊𝖗𝖙 ~
Helps you plan the wedding and possibly loves it even more than you do. He’s a sucker for quality time.
Armin would prefer a small or medium-sized wedding. If you want a large wedding though, there’s no way he’s holding you back from having it.
100% a beach wedding. No doubt.
The venue is BEAUTIFUL. Spent countless nights researching and visiting places to make sure you got the best.
Eren is chosen as the best man, although Armin feels guilty for having to pick only one out of all his friends.
On the day of the wedding, Armin is a panicking mess. Eren and Jean literally have to give him a pep talk before he goes to stand at the alter.
Practiced deep breathing techniques before the wedding. Unfortunately, they aren’t working.
When you finally walk down the isle, Armin starts crying softly. Eren put his hand on his shoulder to comfort him......which just made him sob harder. He cried multiple times during the wedding.
Your wedding rings are the set his grandfather and grandmother shared :’)
Specifically told the bartender not to serve Connie and Sasha more than 3 drinks. He doesn’t trust them making their own alcohol-related decisions at his wedding.
Armin isn’t a dancer but....he practiced how to slow dance just for you.
Shy at first when it comes to the more fast-paced dancing, but Jean coaxes him into it, and he ends up having a lot of fun.
The speeches are so nice!!! But mostly because Armin asked Mikasa to read them over before hand to make sure they were okay.
After the wedding ends and everyone has left, you and Armin sit and watch the waves at night.
NSFW below !
The beach was reserved...meaning it is now completely deserted. I am now politely reminding you, Armin is not a saint. Honeymoon sex on the beach, anybody?
The sex is slow and sweet; he takes his time with you and kisses you all over. It’s 100% the definition of, “making love.”
If you’re down for a kid right now, Armin’s down for a kid right now. He WILL try for a baby with you if it’s what you want.
After you made a mess of yourselves in the sand...Armin would probably let you sleep for a little bit as he watched the waves. He doesn’t want it to end yet.
When he’s finally content, he would carry you back to the hotel, trying not to wake you.
Super considerate dusting the sand off you, and then tucking you in bed. He’s totally cuddling you to sleep, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝕰𝖗𝖊𝖓 𝕵𝖆𝖊𝖌𝖊𝖗 ~
Pretty much gives you full control of the wedding planning; he only has a few requests.
Eren would be the type of dude to invite friends, friends of friends, and friends of friends of friends. Your wedding is gonna be packed.
Has no idea what kind of wedding he prefers.
Please, god, don’t let him pick the venue. He will go to the first one, look around, and go, “Yeah, this is pretty nice.” That’s how you’ll end up getting married at an AirBNB with a nice backyard hidden behind the local Walmart.
Doesn’t know if he should make Armin or Zeke the best man, so he flips a coin to decide. It landed on Armin, and from that day on, Zeke was super salty.
Tries to convince you to try on the wedding dress/suit the day before. He can’t sleep that night because he’s so keyed up thinking about how pretty you’ll look.
On the day of the wedding, he’s super fucking ecstatic and practically bouncing all over the place.
Eren would get kind of impatient when waiting at the isle, to the point it would annoy the groomsmen. Jean came so close to saying something but was thankfully stopped by Armin.
When you finally walk down the isle, he’s BEAMING. He tears up a little bit out of happiness, but nothing too extreme.
Armin had to help him pick out the wedding rings otherwise you would’ve ended up with one of those plastic spider rings you win at Chuck e. Cheese’s.
Eren gets so fucking drunk you’re worried you might have to carry him back to the room by the end of the night.
Jean literally nit-picks everything Eren does the whole night....which almost ends up resulting in a drunken bar fight...at your wedding. It ends up fine, though, because Levi and Mikasa step in as bodyguards.
You SWEAR Mikasa is giving you dirty looks. Likewise, Eren SWEARS he’s getting dirty looks from Levi.
He does alright slow-dancing, but is so tipsy and distracted by how attractive you are to him, he’s kinda just....trying his best.
Absolutely OBLITERATES the dance floor when the fast-paced songs come on...
WILD assortment of speeches. Mikasa is crying, Armin’s reading a poem, Floch’s trying to get you to join his cult, Zeke is crying......and Eren is sitting there like, “Is this almost over.” You’d think it was America’s got talent, or something.
When the wedding ends, he 100% drags you to your favorite fast-food restaurant. Still in your wedding attire. Seriously, this dude is crazy, but he’s fun.
NSFW below !
When you get back to the hotel, he lets you eat your food--and then he fucks the shit out of you.
Way, way, way more rough than usual; super passionate sex. Multiple rounds, too. You don’t even KNOW how he has this much stamina by the end of the night.
Not even TRYING to get you pregnant, but his dumbass probably accidentally would.
Good luck trying to walk tomorrow!!!
When he’s finally tired, he is GONE. Like, you could scream bloody-murder and he still wouldn’t wake up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝕰𝖗𝖜𝖎𝖓 𝕾𝖒𝖎𝖙𝖍 ~
You can TRY and take that wedding planner from Erwin--the only way he’d give it to you is if you pried it from his cold, dead hand(s).
Tells people he’s married MONTHS before the wedding.
Everyone.....and I mean EVERYONE.....knows you’re getting married. he will walk up to strangers and brag about you.
Erwin invites everyone he sees. Elderly woman crossing the street? Invited. Barista at the coffee shop? Invited. Guy on the bus who offered him a seat? Invited.
All those people attend the wedding, too. Why? Everyone knows and loves Erwin. So when your wedding is literally PACKED with people you have never seen before--you’re only slightly surprised.
You know those reality shows where they have HUGE, expensive weddings? Your wedding would put theirs to shame. Erwin goes ALL OUT.
The venue? A literal castle. How did he manage to book and afford a castle? Don’t question it.
Your wedding dress doesn’t have a budget. Seriously, your wedding is crazy expensive--and straight out of a fairy tale.
You’re pretty sure Levi made himself the best man--and Erwin was fine with it.
Is super excited on the day of the wedding. He knows it’s going to be perfect; he got his eyebrows done just for the occasion.
When you walk down that isle his smile is SO BRIGHT. he is SHINING.
Yeah, those wedding rings? Imported from Italy, plastered with giant, real, diamonds. You will never be able to say Erwin doesn’t spoil you.
Pretty chill wedding, nothing’s too rowdy and everyone’s still having a good time.
Whispers sweet nothings and tells you how happy he is the whole night. He can’t go five minutes without saying, “I love you.”
Just TRY to get him to stop holding your hand; he won’t.
Erwin is so good at slow-dancing??? And he’s so careful with you, too. 100% the one in the lead, but he’s spinning and dipping you so sweetly. Not to mention the way he’s looking at you...
He’s a serious guy a lot of the time, but I honest to god believe in the sweetest way possible, you would genuinely have a really fun time fast-pace dancing with him. You would both be laughing at each other’s moves.
Majority of the speeches are super nice. Hange tried to get Levi to say something, brought him up to the stage and....he starred at the crowd for a couple awkward seconds, then walked off. He conveyed his message through his eyes, I guess?
The wedding is so long you weren’t sure it was ever going to end...
Hotel? Nah he booked that castle, that’s where you’re spending the night...
NSFW below !
You’re fucking in the king bed tonight baby, literally.
Pays attention to your needs/wants the WHOLE NIGHT. Seriously, he’s a soft dom, and makes sure you’re more than satisfied.
Tons of body worship?? He’s so sweet and careful with you.
Erwin secretly really, really wants to give you his babies and start a family with you on the honeymoon. If you’re willing, he will make sure he gets you pregnant; you’re getting no sleep.
After you’re done, he will run you two a bath and clean you off. He adds in a little bonus massage, too.
When you get in bed, he pets your head, cuddling you until you fall asleep. You could’ve sworn you saw him smiling before you drifted off to sleep.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝕵𝖊𝖆𝖓 𝕶𝖎𝖗𝖘𝖈𝖍𝖙𝖊𝖎𝖓 ~
Jean would definitely help you plan the wedding--he values romance a lot, so having the perfect wedding for him and you, is important. He also doesn’t want to put all the weight on you.
Brags to his friends that he’s getting married--they all get tired of hearing about it.
Normal sized wedding--not too many, but not small, either. Lots of family and friends.
The venue is at a barn. Yes, he picked a barn. it’s a nice venue, too; the only problem is that he’s not going to be able to escape those horse jokes.
Marco is chosen as the best man--and when Connie hears about it, he sulks for a few days. He gets over it eventually, though.
He’s kind of nervous the day of--but Marco reassures him and teaches his some deep-breathing techniques.
Keeps his cool until he goes to stand at the alter--and then he’s in full-blown panic mode. “What if I can’t make her happy?” “What if she runs away with Eren?” meanwhile, Eren is standing right there with the other groomsmen, like “wtf?”
When you walk down the isle--he’s super overwhelmed. He feels a huge sense of relief you didn’t ditch him and run away, but also metaphorically hit by a semi-truck of emotions since he realized he’s ACTUALLY getting married. There’s a little bit of happy crying.
His mom picked out your wedding rings; you only find out when she brags about it--and Jean yells at her for telling you.
His wedding gift to you is a giant portrait he drew of you--and on the back, there’s a message in French. He won’t tell you what it says, but you’re pretty sure it’s an oath to love and protect you ‘till the day he dies.
He does pretty well slow-dancing. His mom also mentions he begged her to practice with him so he didn’t mess up.
He’s a little worried about making himself look like a fool dancing in front of you--but for you, he does it anyways; You both laugh your asses off and have a lot of fun.
The speeches make Jean look like he wants to drop dead from embarrassment. He’s not sure what’s worse--Connie and Sasha doing karaoke, Eren making horse jokes, or his mom telling all of his embarrassing baby stories.
After everyone leaves, Jean takes you to look at the animals before you leave, too.
NSFW below !
 As for honeymoon sex; you better not make a horse joke, otherwise you’re getting laid in that fucking barn. Maybe. He threatens that, but you know he wouldn’t want to have sex there on your wedding night. He’s 100% down for another time, though.
A mix of rough and sweet at the same time--he does the right things at the right times.
Is a lot more passionate and soft than usual--very careful with your body, and makes sure to really take everything in; He wants to remember the night for as long as he lives.
Immaculate aftercare; and on top of that, he lets you fall asleep in his arms, occasionally kissing your forehead.
Bonus: he sings you to sleep.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
𝕷𝖊𝖛𝖎 𝕬𝖈𝖐𝖊𝖗𝖒𝖆𝖓 ~
Lets you plan the wedding, but looks it over and makes sure there’s nothing too crazy happening. He, somehow, is worried you’re going to plan a circus or something else ridiculous to show up.
No one knows you’re getting married until the envelopes are mailed to family and friends. In fact, some people didn’t even know you were together.
Pretty small wedding, it’s mostly people who are very close to you two. It has a very homey-feel.
The venue HAS to be indoors. Levi thinks an outdoor wedding is unsanitary--so you end up getting married in a banquet hall.
Erwin is 1000% the best man. You don’t even have to ask, you already know it’s going to be Erwin.
Is literally shaking and sweating his ass off he’s so nervous the day of the wedding--if anyone asks, though, he swears he is fine. Has no idea it’s completely obvious he’s on the verge of absolutely freaking out.
Erwin and Hange try to get him to relax--but he continues to deny that he is in fact, NOT calm.
When you walk down the isle and he makes eye contact with you--his brain short-circuits. His mind literally stops working and is constantly repeating, “p...p...pre....pretty..” the whole damn time.
Mentally saves the image of you in your dress/suit to use as his motivation to always come home to you.
Tries to remain expressionless, but is literally tomato-red and on the verge of crying; he never thought he’d be able to find happiness--it feels like everything is finally going to be okay. Erwin is smiling like a proud dad, and Hange is trying to suppress their amazement that the dude’s showing emotion.
Your wedding rings are fairly plain--but on the inside of the bands, both of your names are etched.
He won’t read the vows out loud, he simply hands you a letter and tells you to read it another time.
When the time comes to kiss--Levi literally hides behind you and shyly pulls you in. The view the audience gets is your back--and they aren’t sure whether to clap or not.
Your wedding gift to him was a giant assortment of different teas--and he genuinely seemed really excited to try them. He didn’t realize it, but when he mentioned tasting them, he said, “with you” at the end.
Has no idea how to slow dance. Erwin tried to help him, but it didn’t do much, so you teach him on the spot. Your first dance, he concentrates really hard on not messing up, eyebrows furrowed and all.
Doesn’t know how to dance fast-pace either, in fact, he’s pretty confused. You have to grab the man and force him out of his comfort zone, spinning him and all. Hange and the Survey Corp members are laughing their ass off at his bewildered face.
The speeches went pretty well--except for when Hange didn’t stop talking; Levi threatened to force them off the stage, and you don’t think he was joking.
The wedding was fairly short--but only because Levi rushed everyone home; he just wanted to drag you off and keep you to himself for the rest of the day.
After the wedding, he takes you to a spot nearby to watch the sunset. He has a soft smile, and you can tell he’s genuinely happy.
You take HIM back to the hotel--he would’ve been fine staying there just a little longer, in the peace of it all.
NSFW below !
You’re literally taking his virginity. He saved himself for marriage; he wanted to make sure he gave himself to the right person.
Very nervous--and kind of insecure, too. He isn’t sure what you’ll think of him, and he’s worried about you seeing his scars. He STILL isn’t completely convinced you really want him.
Lots of body worship and reassuring him; he melts at your touch.
Once he gets comfortable and into it, he repeats “I love you” a lot.
He doesn’t last very long...but keeps going until you get off, too. He’s still a little confused by everything, so you have to teach him.
He’s half asleep after cumming--but still insists the two of you need to get in the shower.
Was too tired to stand, so you took a bath together instead. He falls asleep, leaning on you, when you massage his head.
You end up being unable to wake him up--the man is dead tired from not only sleep deprivation, the long day, but also his first time.
You can’t get him out of the bathtub, either--he’s too bulky to lift. You expected him to be much lighter due to his height, but his muscle makes him a lot more heavy.
Hange and Erwin have to be called to haul his ass--naked--out of the tub and into the bed. Hange is of no help since they’re laughing so hard--and Erwin is helping, but trying so hard not to break face and laugh too.
After they leave, you cover him up and cuddle into his frame; you could swear you heard a quiet, “thank you.”
what would life with levi be like post 139?
warning: mention of some spoilers about levi but not major ones as I wont be going in depth about ch 139.
A lot of really cute fluff that I’m sure will warm your heart-
Thanks for sending a question! I'm glad I got another one and ngl this is actually fun to discuss and share my thoughts and ideas with you all :,) I am guessing you are asking about what life y/n would be with Levi after the war and ch. 139 correct?
To be honest, the first thing that comes to mind is that Levi would be actually more relaxed, soft, and happier especially if he is with y/n. After losing some of his comrades, y/n there being by his side would literally make him sometimes during night go emotional and get really clingy to you and he would be extra affectionate and loving. He wants to feel your presence, wants to know you are still there during the night, and wants to definitely hold you. So y/n living with Levi, expect to have some emotional midnights with him and I feel like it would be really deep and he would share his thoughts or maybe talk it out and then he would go on and say he is thankful you are here, by his side and that he would say "Just remember, you mean a lot to me, Y/N. Don't forget that." He has a hard time trying to find the right words to express how much you mean to him but you would get the message either way from his actions and body language. Also, during those nights, he would want a shoulder to cry on and probably just hold on to you and sob a bit on your shoulder (covering his face) because after the war and he has finished serving his duty, he would think about the past and all the people he cared about and his old close comrades and friends, and since Levi is emotional he would just would want y/n to remind him that you are here and you would make him feel so special just by being by his side! hugging him, letting him speak what is in his mind, accept what has happened, and especially showing him love since this man is a bit hesitant and he would want you to do it.
Another thing I think would be like for y/n living with Levi is that to expect a lot of, sight seeing, exploring new places, he would definitely wake you up so damn early to go for this nice café and that they sell fresh baked pastries and he would get bread with you on the way back, holding your hand and keeping you really close to him. When his legs heals, expect also walking in big open green fields, and even hiking! He would only do this with y/n and if they are there and when you both went there, you realized he was really loving to you, and cared for you through his actions asking if you were okay, if you were having a good time with him and....if you were even happy with him! "Are you....happy staying with someone like me?". It breaks Y/N to hear this from him and I think after the war and everything, he would sometimes look down on himself and probably feel self conscious about his scars on his face and he thinks he is 'uglier'. You are now the one who would shut him up even if he says negative things about himself. "Do you think I-" before he even tried to finish his sentence, y/n would go and cover his mouth with their hand. "If you say it one more time, I'm going to smooch your whole face to shut you up." He would then actually laugh every time you do that and finds you adorable, and proceeds to kiss you on the lips, "I love you." He would say that so sweetly, deep and full of emotions while his eyes looking at you filled with love and lust and he would just say that so suddenly and he has been doing that quite often after you started living your life with Levi after the war and it makes you get butterflies every time (also you both are blushing like hell!) He would ask you when he is self conscious if he still looked attractive to you (this is usually when you recently got close with the other neighbors and they loved you and Levi and he would look at the young man talking to his partner, and seeing his face with no scars. He would think that y/n deserved a more better looking guy sometimes) and he would say that he wished he had his other eye to see you more clearly because you become even more beautiful to him and wants to grasp every time he looks at you really clearly, so when you go out he still thinks of you.
He would have a car and he would be pretty good at driving and he would want to take you to the places he would search up and he would literally plan the day the next day without you knowing. so expect surprise trips too! But, he wouldn't want to use his car to be honest and instead using the train for long rides! That's because, he would want his partner to be near him, let them lay on his shoulder or even lap, prepare some sandwiches for y/n and gives it to them just to see them eating the sandwich happily and he finds it really cute. Basically, he wants every interaction with you no matter what.
It would be a simple, but such a loving, warm-hearted, affectionate and basic romantic life that you both would be sooo loved and really happy together <3 he would want to make you laugh every time and he would start laughing too, would take care of you a lot, mentally, physically too even though you always told him you would do some chores instead but he insists "No love, you did enough. Just rest up for today. let me do it okay? And after this I'm taking you out." Also, he would still worry about you a lot and be protective. SO when you go out, he would still message you and wait for you and he get sad when he can't tag along. Once he didn't reply for 30 mins and he was ready to interrogate everyone to find his partner.
I feel like Levi would brag about you quite often to people he would see and talk to, such as you and Levi's neighbors and he would see them in the supermarket early morning (in some mornings you wont be with him cause you were so tired and he gave up and let you sleep in and went instead). He would be buying a bouquet of flowers (he does that every once a while) for you to surprise you when he is back and he would see his neighbors and he would literally talk so highly of y/n, and say such loving things. "Oh Levi, you actually really love Y/N. They are lucky to have you!" and he would stay slight and think. "It's me who is lucky. my whole life I have been unlucky after everything I went through, but meeting y/n. they changed my life and turned it to a better way. they understand me and love me. I love them so much....I don't want them to leave yet." He would say to them and they would encourage him to say it to you but he is kind of shy. SO! he decided to write it in a letter he was secretly hiding it from you and giving it to you for your next anniversary <3 Would defiantly learn how to bake for you, cook new things every week, buy new books that reminds him of you and read it and then he would talk to you about it for hours while drinking tea with him, would take you to shopping and buy you clothes that you would like. and behind closed doors, he wont miss a chance not to show you love, he would hug your waist from behind for soo long (its his favorite) and keeps his head on your shoulder and breathe in your beautiful scent and kiss your skin gently. "Y/N. please, just stay here for another 5 minutes." That 5 minutes was half an hour of smooching and cuddling in the coach and with some hickeys he would leave you on your shoulder (and he lowkey would want you to give him one too- and he would just give you that look saying as if he would want one right now or he wont let you go. so like I said before, clingy soft man? yes. defiantly after everything and since nothing is in his way he would do this and now you can clearly see his loving and soft side that he gives you daily.) Following that, you both would spend the evening, at the balcony, stargazing and he would look at you instead of the stars, while giving a small smile and placing his hand on the side of his cheek. That's because he really thought you were the star, sunlight and bright flower that blooms beautifully which is filled with love and happiness.
Finally, I feel like he would probably be less grumpy and not showing much of his usual stoic expression but instead, his expression would show he is finally relaxed, calm and actually happy inside because living his life with y/n after the war really helped him and made him realize that this. this is how love and life felt like, living with your true soulmate, the connection, emotions you both would share, feelings understood without being explained much, such strong emotional attraction and you were the perfect person to him. this is what changes him and makes him the most soft man out there that if the people from the survey crops where alive such as Erwin and etc. they would be shocked but extremely proud and happy of him because he really deserves it.
I hope this answered your question and this is what I would guess! Anyways, this really warmed my heart answering this and ahhh just imagine this all like, how beautiful and amazing that is? I just wish we all could give Levi a hug. He really is a great man. please feel free to send another question or anyone out there who has one! I hope you and everyone has a good day and let me know if you liked this by leaving a message anywhere, like or a reblog 🥺 ♡ ♡
I woke up this morning to more asks than I have ever gotten in one sitting, and it was such a cool surprise so thank you guys!!! This was literally so much fun! All asks & answers are below the cut because I didn’t want to spam the dashboard with my long responses haha.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
@mangosimoothie these are all some great questions and thank you for that!!
5. Do they have any tattoos? If so what are they and do they have any special meaning?
Zoe doesn’t have any tattoos yet, but she has always wanted one! She just doesn’t know what she’d get and would be like “It’s got to be perfect if it’s going to be on my body forever!” But Erwin has one very minimalist medium-sized sunset tattoo on his right shoulder blade (kind of like this). He got it on his 18th birthday, it was something he and his sister always wanted to get together!
7. Do they have any unusual fears?
I wouldn’t say they’re unusual fears, but Erwin is very scared of small spaces and Zoe is scared of geese because of a bad run-in she had with a goose on the Kindergarten playground lol.
11. Do they have any addictions?
Zoe doesn’t have any addictions! She’s a meticulous person who is very health-conscious and her mom was a great example who showed her how to set healthy boundaries and limits. Erwin on the other hand is a different story! Erwin smokes cigarettes (something he picked up from his older sister Maggie, it really started as a way to feel closer to her after she went missing and has turned into a stress coping mechanism). Plus, he has an unhealthy dependence on caffeine. The man has been known to go through a pot of coffee all on his own, he doesn’t even care about taste. He’s poured energy drinks in coffee before (gross, I know). He just... doesn’t sleep well.
Even though it was definitely a challenge to choose between my pixel children, I think the Top 5 sims I’ve made are:
The whole Carter family, but especially Caleb. He is truly cathartic for me to play and write.
My version of Alexander Goth (really he’s my son, EA can take Alexander Goth from my cold dead hands, they have never done that boy justice!!)
All my Strangerville sims, but Tashia and Junia would be tied for third because I have no other sims like them. They challenge me!
Sha West (I’ll be posting her later, she is from one of my private saves where I’m doing the globetrotter challenge for fun and I loveeee her).
Rin and Lazlo Fite (twins so they count as one lmao. They were originally just submissions for another simblr, but I fell in love with them and their backstory!)
This was even harder!! I follow a LOT of simblrs. But my current top 5 sims from other simblrs are:
The entirety of Gen 3 (Asa, Finn, Casper, Stevie, Elaine, Jada) from Frozen Pines by @softpine. I cannot pick between these babies, they all have my heart equally.
The entire Halabi family, but especially Gus (and Lena) by @sojutrait
Lucas Munch by @gunthermunch
Izara Ali by @acuar-io
Pheebs by @softerhaze
Honorable mention to River and Ro from Inheritance by @cyberth0t! My old ass was around when this was a sims story, but now it’s an awesome webtoon here!!
Tumblr media
Lol I love that. Crush away, anon.
2. Do they wear perfume/cologne? If so what scents do they prefer?
Erwin doesn’t wear a cologne really unless he’s going out! But Erwin always smells fresh - like a light, clean ivory soap smell mixed with his laundry detergent and a warm mix of light bergamot, jasmine and lemon. Fresh and pleasantly light is literally the only way I can think to describe it ajajksdjkasjgs sorry hope that makes sense! Although he does smoke cigarettes, he never smells overwhelmingly like smoke (it’s just barely present!).
6. If they were badly injured, and for whatever reason couldn't go to a hospital, who would they go to for help?
Erwin is stubborn and kind of a loner, he would probably patch himself up in most circumstance. But he’d have to have a deep bond with someone to let them see him in pain/vulnerable like that!
16. Do they have or want kids?
He does not have kids! As for wanting kids, he’d say no. But really he just doesn’t think he’ll ever have the opportunity to have kids. He doesn’t dislike the idea at all, but definitely isn’t in a place for kids right now! In the future though? He’d be lying if he said he hadn’t thought about that...
29. If they were real would you be friends with them?
Hmmmmm I can’t say for sure. Current Erwin? Probably not, we live very different lives! But future Erwin and I would probably get along very well!
Tumblr media
19. How easy is it to become their friend?
It is not easy to gain Junia’s trust in any way lmao. Friend, romantic partner, work associate... doesn’t matter to her. She keeps things pretty distant and professional across the board. But if you break through? Dear God, she will love you and protect you fiercely.
Tumblr media
@missjinglecoco thank you for these questions! <3
1. Do they have any crafting hobbies?
Erwin likes to take polaroid photos just for personal enjoyment! I wouldn’t say he scrapbooks, but he likes to do a *version* of that by journaling with polaroids...so scrapbooking without the stickers and fun paper lol. He also runs a podcast about spooky stuff like unsolved mysteries, paranormal stories, and conspiracy theories!
12. Do they have any sense of style? Regardless of the answer do they believe they have a sense of style?
He absolutely has a very quirky sense of style, although he would say he just likes to wear stuff that he likes and isn’t intentionally curating a look. His style is vintage casual with an alternative touch - quirky patters, ripped loose jeans, lots of 70s-80s dad tees you’d find in a Goodwill.
33. Do they play ttrpgs? If so what kind of characters do they play? Or are they more likely to GM?
Yes! He hasn’t played since high school, but he loves Dungeons and Dragons. He typically plays as an elf wizard! He would love to be a DM/GM, but he’s never had the time to come up with and execute a campaign of his own creation.
Tumblr media
@chelseasanidiot Oh that’s my baby!!! My favorite!! Thank you for asking about him <3
3. Do they enjoy cooking?
YES! He loves cooking with his mom and his abuela! Cooking is a love language to him, and it’s a way he connects to his culture too. He’s the kind of person that is always offering food and to his friends and loved ones and sees it as a basic act of service - “We’re hanging out at my house, so I should give you a snack - just makes sense!”
4. Do they enjoy baking?
Not as much as cooking, but he does enjoy baking if it’s with Cheryl!
28. Are they a #gamer?
He loves lots of different games, but he would not call himself a #gamer lol. He doesn’t take games so seriously! His sister is much more competitive that him!
Tumblr media
Of course! <3
8. Do they collect anything? If so what and why?
She collects snow globes! Whenever she and her mom would go on vacation, she’d get a snow globe from that location as a souvenir.
9. When they're sick what do they do to feel better?
She is very productive, so she just doesn’t have time to lay around sick. She takes healing very serious - strict regiment of herbal teas, vitamin C supplements, rest, vapor rub (still using the same big pot of Vicks that probably is from the 90s), humidifier, soups, keeps a notepad with her medication rotation schedule...the works!
10. Do they have any regrets?
Nope!
42. Can they speak multiple languages? If yes which all do they speak and why?
She isn’t fluent in any languages outside of English. She only remembers a few words/phrases from high school French. She also would recognize a few words or phrases in Arabic from knowing Anwar and his family for so long.
43. Can they handle stressful situations?
Yes, she operates very efficiently under stress (and grief). She needs people to remind her that it’s okay to slow down and just... feel.
44. Who, if anyone, would they trust with their deepest secrets?
Anwar! He’s her closest friend since childhood and she’d trust him with her life. Eventually you guys will see her open up to more than just him though <3
45. Do they plan in advance or just wing it?
Plan in advance always. Just thinking of “winging it” makes her skin break out in hives lmao
Hello, can I request one where Levi's fem s/o is getting threatened by some scouts who think she becomes a squad leader only because she is Levi's girlfriend? The reader refuses to talk about it to Levi but he gets suspicious of her behaviour. One day he sees her coming to their room hurt. Levi x Reader Let Me Be There For You
Salty moisture fell from your eyes when the door to your office closed behind you with the click of the lock. This was something you wouldn’t allow anyone to see because one: that would mean those that caused your tears would know that their words do affect you. And two: you don’t want to seem weak and vulnerable, especially not in front of your boyfriend.
Their words echoed in your ears, etching themselves into your brain to be trapped there.
“If I sleep with him, will I become a squad leader?”
“She doesn’t even deserve to be one. She’s one of the weakest.”
“I bet she’s only with him so she can be a squad leader.”
“She acts like she’s everything just because she’s dating the Corporal. I doubt she even loves him.”
Every sentence, word, letter caused a piece of your heart to crack and fall apart. And it would only happen in the safety of your office, where no one could say anything to you, or witness your breakdowns.
How could they say you don’t love him?
He’s the reason you work so hard. So you can live as long as he will. So he’s proud of you. So you can prove that he has nothing to worry about when out on expeditions or any other missions.
There have been times when you wanted to break up with him. Not because you don’t love him, but because you just wanted all these people to leave you alone. However, you won’t break up with him because that would mean those people will get what they want. And you don’t want to part from him for something irrelevant and petty. Especially when he cares so much about you that it would definitely hurt him if you broke up with him.
After calming yourself down, you rid your cheeks of your tears and made a start on your work. Paperwork was one of the only ways to distract yourself. It was almost like your comfort. Because nothing can happen to you while your pen scratches against the paper and your mind is only focused on the words before you. And with your door locked, no one can burst into the office.
“(Y/N),” the familiar voice of your lover called softly from the other side of the door, knocking quietly. “Unlock the door.”
“I want to be alone right now,” you replied.
“(Y/N), let me in. Let me help you.”
“There’s nothing to help me with.”
“Then, let me listen to you. I’ll try to do whatever I can to make sure that you aren’t upset anymore.”
“What makes you think I was crying?”
“... I didn’t say that. But now, I do know that you were crying... Did... did I do something to make you upset?”
“No, no. No, you didn’t, Levi. Don’t worry. You haven’t done anything wrong, my love.”
“Open the door, please.”
After some consideration, you huffed and stood up to open the door for your boyfriend as you stood there, keeping your gaze away from him. His eyes immediately ran over your face, noticing the puffiness and slight tinge of red around your eyes. An expression of concern scribbled itself over his visage before he took hold of your forearm and stepped further into your office, shutting the door. He led you to the sofa in your office, sitting you down and crouching in front of you.
“What happened?” he inquired, in a tone so gentle and caring that made your heart melt.
“Nothing...”
“Tch. Tell me what happened. Who made you cry? Just... tell me who hurt you. You know I never like to see you upset. So, tell me who did this and I’ll kick their asses.”
“And you know I would tell you if there’s something wrong, and I’d let you kick their ass. But you don’t need to,” you smiled, but the raven saw right through that fake-ass smile. He wanted to see your sweet, genuine smile spread across  your soft lips.
Cupping your cheeks, he spoke up, “Don’t give this bullshit. Don’t force a smile. All I want is to help, or do whatever I can.”
“You aren’t my knight in shining armour,” you scoffed. “I’m a soldier, I can fight my own fights.”
“I know that. It’s just that I don’t like seeing you like this.”
“Levi, I’m fine, okay? Let me finish off my paperwork.”
“... Fine,” he sighed, standing from his crouching position as you got up and went back to your desk. “If you’re going to spend a long time doing paperwork, do you want me to bring your dinner?”
“No, it’s okay. I’ll go down and get it myself. Thank you, baby.”
“Don’t work yourself too hard.”
“Same goes to you,” you told him as he left your office.
After a couple of hours, the paperwork was done and it was just in time for dinner. Though, before you went to the mess hall, you had to drop it off to Erwin, so you quickly made your way there, hoping that you wouldn’t bump into anyone.
Your fists hit the wood twice before you heard a ‘come in’, so you opened the door and offered a small smile to your Commander, but he could tell that something was wrong as you were placing the pile of papers onto his desk.
“Thank you, (Y/N),” he said as you gave a mere nod and turned around to leave. “Wait, before you go... Is everything okay?”
“Yeah. Why do you ask?”
“You just seem off.”
“Nope, I’m fine. Anyway, I’m hungry, so I’m going to go eat. What about you?”
“I’ll come in a bit.”
With an ‘okay’, you left his office, shutting the door behind you and making your way to the mess hall. Relief washed over you when there was no one around to say insulting words. And once you got to the mess hall, there was nothing to worry about because Levi and your friends were there, so no one would dare to say anything to you.
When you took a seat, you felt a few pairs of eyes on you, however, you ignored them since if you looked up, you knew they would be able to see that something was wrong. And you didn’t want to burden them with your problems. Which is another one of the reasons you refuse to tell your boyfriend.
~/~
You wished that the reason you woke up was because of the soft kisses pressed to your head and the soothing hand that drifted over your tresses. But it wasn’t because of that. It was because of an unpleasant dream. The same people, saying the same rude things, accusing you of false things, mentally destroying you.
But, once you lifted your head off of Levi’s chest, (E/C) met grey that swirled with love and affection and care.
“Good morning,” you hummed, earning a mutter of the same words from him while he pecked your forehead.
Normally, he would get out of bed straight away, but now, he was simply gazing at you, admiring you as you laid your head back onto his chest, closing your eyes for a few more moments. Soon, his gaze felt less loving and it felt like he was just staring at you to analyse your behaviour since you wouldn’t tell him what’s wrong.
Finally, after about five minutes, he let out a defeated huff. “... I can’t believe I can’t figure out what’s wrong,” he mumbled.
“Maybe because there isn’t?” you retorted. “Stop looking at me like that. I’d rather start my day with something nice, rather than being scrutinised.”
“And you would be able to have that if you just told me.”
“Tell you what?”
“... I hate you,” he sighed before leaving the warmth of your shared bed, stretching his limbs.
“Love you, too,” you teased, deciding to stay in bed for longer because you weren’t ready to leave the comfort and go outside, where people would terrorise you.
Once Levi had changed into his uniform, he had told you to get out of bed prior to leaving the room. That’s when you begrudgingly slithered out from under the covers and into the chilly air, freshening up and chucking on a fresh uniform.
When you arrived at the door of the room, your fingers lingered on the knob when you hesitated to leave the room.
You couldn’t stay strong forever. Something just felt off today, and you felt like it would be a terrible idea if you exposed yourself to the outside. Maybe it would be better if you just stayed inside and asked Levi to get you breakfast.
It was almost certain that you would break down if someone said anything. Only one thing would break you. You had that feeling. And that would mean Levi, and your friends, knowing that you aren’t as strong as they think.
But it would also have pros, right? Like if they found out, they would help you and try to prevent it from continuing.
But you didn’t want to push your problems onto other people. You wanted to deal with this yourself. Though, it’s probably inevitable since you doubt you will be able to carry on staying strong for much longer.
Without your permission, tears fell from your eyes and sobs racked your body.
What did you do to deserve this? All you want is to love Levi without anyone getting in the way.
Your legs gave out and you dropped to your knees, hiding your face in your hands as liquid seeped through your fingers and dropped with a patter.
Unbeknownst to you, Levi had been waiting for you outside the room. So, that meant he heard you crying.
The door quietly opened and he stepped inside, closing the door behind himself and locking it. He kneeled down in front of you, deciding not to question your tears, and instead, give you comfort by gently tugging you into his arms. You rested your head on his shoulder as he soothingly hushed you, stroking your back and pressing small pecks all over your head.
You didn’t care if he knew anymore because no matter what, he will always think of you the same. He wouldn’t think you’re weak, or that you’re a burden. He will help you, support you, and kick those people’s asses for you.
After some time, when you had calmed down, the raven brushed your tears away and kissed your forehead.
“(Y/N), I never beg. But, I’m begging you to tell me what’s going on. Please. Do you think that I like to see you this upset?” he spoke, voice laced with concern and slight pain. Quietly, you shook your head and he cupped your face, tilting your head up to face him. “Then, tell me. Tell me what’s troubling you.”
After some reluctance, you gave in and told him about what people said, and how much it affected you, and why you never mentioned it to anyone. And you could tell he was a little angry that you didn’t tell him earlier, but he was also understanding and he did his best to comfort you and he promised to help you.
His arms invited you for another embrace and you happily accepted, relief flowing through you since you finally got it off your chest and you don’t have to suffer in silence anymore.
“You can stay here, while I get us some breakfast, okay?” he told you quietly.
“Okay.”
“And after that, you tell me the specific people that said those things, so I can kick their asses.”
You let out a small giggle and nodded, slightly parting from the hug to mould your lips with his.
“Thank you, my love,” you murmured in between kisses.
Any thoughts on Levi and Hange's friendship?
Maybe some headcanons or smt 🤔
i have many thoughts. bajillions of them, even. aided by the fact that im writing a ton of levihan in a longfic currently.
i feel like to their core hange and levi just even each other out. hange can of course be serious but being jumpy and rambunctious and silly is their nature!! they will jump to take risks, and they are extremely avoidant of serious responsibility.
example: during the uprising arc they were the one who wanted to lay low and go into hiding for a while longer, but levi convinced them to fight; plus the rumbling arc when they wanted to abandon the fight and live with levi in the forest, but he again convinced them to fight.
hange is also significantly burdened by self doubt. see the scene after eren was captured on the airship and them monologuing that making them commander was the only bad decision erwin ever made.
in contrast, levi is always put together, and an extremely quick thinker. when hange loses their grip, he is always there to bring them back to the main objective. where hange is irrational, levi is rational.
he has has a huge sense of responsibility to the fight, but he still cares about hange deeply: his complete rage when they were injured during the reiss battle in s3p1; then in s3p2 the first question he asked erwin after zeke started throwing boulders was the status of hange and their squad.
hange cares for him in the same way. the look on their face in s4 when it looked like levi might have been dead... and they also protected them with their life from the yeagerists with just a rifle. also, in s3p1, when levi apologized for getting their squad killed, hange still tried to comfort him with the fact that levi had killed the attackers and driven the enemy out of hiding.
i mean, they love each other. whether u ship levihan or not i think that's obvious.
but the tragedy in their relationship is totally beyond their control. when the world looked like it was going to end, levi put aside any and all affection he felt for them aside despite, or because of how horrible he felt after (1) letting zeke go again (2) killing 30 of his own comrades after they were titanized and (3) his injuries from the thunderspear explosion - all of which he no doubt blames himself for.
so, he probably felt convicted to finish the battle, not only bc of his promise to erwin, but to honor his dead comrades. i think hange also blamed themself for eren escaping, the insurrection occurring, and the general shitshow that happened after they became commander, but the difference is levi's convictions and hange's insecurity.
(and what about season 2 when they were so close to uncovering bert and reiner as traitors on the wall? they not only failed before it was too late, but they failed to keep eren from getting kidnapped again. that’s not talked about enough.)
no doubt that especially after they became commander, hange and levi leaned on each other constantly - not to mention that they were the last of the original veterans left.
in one of the official fanarts, it's HIGHLY hinted at that they were headed to visit erwin's grave together.
but i think it's practically a given that hange doubted levi's choice.
even before liberio, they were harbored tons of self-doubt, but they could still be optimistic. then when eren threw them into a war, their leadership came very much into question for them. also, they wanted to save commander erwin to the end: they even held mikasa back and gave her an entire speech about making impossible choices, and how one day you would have to prepare to say goodbye to everyone you've ever met.
but would hange and levi ever have argued about it?? definitely not. after erwin died, it's canon that levi struggled to consume anything other than tea, and it became his ONE goal to fulfill "erwin's last order", which was actually a promise levi made to him - even if he could do nothing else.
im getting sidetracked by eruri the point is that hange knew how much levi struggled to make that choice and the utter hell of grief that ensued. they always supported him, and in turn, levi did the same. he definitely threw all his energy into helping hange recover from their eye injury and for them to take on their new responsibilities so he wouldn't have to focus on his own turmoil at all, so he could be useful.
also, in the no regrets ova, the first time levi and hange met, they were taken with him. they wanted to know all about his skills and fighting ability and very much admired him for giving hope to the other scouts.
when asked to explain himself, levi didn't just brush them off (he wasn't mean only bc farlan told him to be nice lol); he said that he doesn't know, that his power was his own and that was that.
ok i dont want this post to just be a character study and i'd rather not go into manga spoiler territory so here are some more lighthearted hcs instead:
levi shared his (most expensive and favorite) tea with hange after sawny and bean died after how upset they got over it
it’s canon that levi asked moblit to protect hange because he couldn’t be around them all the time.
trivia: with hange's left eye gone after shiganshina and levi's right eye gone after the explosion, it definitely represents symbolism of them completing each other.
levi learned to do hair as a kid from his mother and when hange forgets to take care of themself (i.e., brushing their hair), he not only makes them wash up, but he gives them a braid from one of their super long bangs by their face - especially if they've been feeling down
hange likes collecting special rocks and leaves and other little oddities, and will give them to levi bc they think theyre neat. most of the time he says something along the lines of "You're giving me more trash?" but he secretly keeps them in a hidden drawer of his desk where he keeps fallen wings of freedom patches.
levi likes buying hange gifts
whenever levi was seriously injured/sick in the past (very rare) they were always the one to act as his primary physician despite specializing mainly in titan research.
when levi couldnt sleep, especially after hange became commander, he would sometimes sleep in a chair of their room like he did with erwin
building off the last one, if hange wakes up from a bad night terror, he will get them some water and spend time next to them until they're sleepy again
Oh oh, can you rank the AoT people from who would make the best breakfast? That egg question got me wanting a soft-boiled egg too damn
BEST Levi / Jean > Porco > Mikasa / Sasha > Connie / Pieck / Annie > Berty > Hange / Eren > Erwin / Armin / Reiner WORST
Levi and Jean are easily the best cooks. They can prepare a meal without instruction and have stuff they’ve been making for years/since childhood that are so good and like second nature to them; but they can also follow an intricate recipe. Strong sense of ratio and taste in general when it comes to cooking, so they don’t need to rely on measuring. From the stovetop to the grill, there’s really nothing these two can’t handle. Levi has just a bit of edge over Jean because he’s the better baker.
Porco is also a pretty good cook and it started as cooking for himself because I think he’d be a little bit of a health nut. Over time his skills just got better and now he’s pretty comfortable in the kitchen. He’ll cook for you if you ask, but stay away from the kitchen while he’s in there. He always waits and watches for you to take the first bite and gets kinda happy when you show signs of it being good.
Mikasa and Sasha are good, too. There are times when the both of them see a recipe they really wanna try and it kicks their chef expertise into gear. Mikasa likes trying different cuisines and challenging herself to cook foods she’s never tried before. Sasha tends to overcook in terms of portions, but it’s okay because she loves to share and you guys have ample supply for picnics and dinners with friends for the week. Sasha’s pretty sick on the grill too, shes got the boys at her feet at the cookout.
Connie, Pieck, and Annie are alright; they can handle themselves, but they’re not trying anything fancy or complicated. Pasta dishes are always a safe bet, so these three stick to that end of spectrum. Connie makes pretty good sandwiches and has an eye for making combinations that seem weird but work out pretty well. Pieck makes good soup and salads and always has you as taster. Annie doesn’t mind cooking, but will cook and force you to eat if she notices you’re not doing it regularly.
Berty is where the scale begins to tip to the “I’m not great at this… but I could be worse?” side of things. He would never call himself a chef; simple (very simple) recipes are the limit of his cooking abilities and nothing that requires any kind of appliance other than the stove, microwave, or oven. No blenders. He learned that the hard way.
Hange and Eren… look, they’re not the worst in the world, but they’re not good, either. In general, Hange doesn’t care much for what they eat, so they’re not inclined to cook for themselves or develop those kind of skills anyway—food is food. Eren is easily distracted and frustrated, so making complicated stuff is not up his alley. Both of them are limited to spaghetti and grilled cheeses lest they burn something or themselves in the process. The one thing Eren can cook well tho is a soup his mom used to make for him as a kid. It’s his little Gordon Ramsay moment.
Erwin, Armin, and Reiner… disrespectfully, keep the blondes out of the kitchen <3 they’re all disasters. Erwin mixes up ingredients all the time then thinks he can substitute for what he has when he absolutely cannot, plus he doesn’t know how to season anything. All he can do is make plain white rice and even then he doesn’t wash it so what’s the point. Armin gets very flustered when cooking and has a hard time managing different elements/parts of dishes that need to be cooked at the same time. He puts the pasta in the water and goes to chop the veggies but forgets about the pot and now it’s bubbling over and knife gets dropped in the process and the steam from the pot is burning him and—just let Mikasa give you guys some leftovers. And Reiner… well, let’s just say he’s made some valiant efforts, but for now he keeps the local Chinese food place on speed dial <2
JAZZY thank you for the prompt! I kind of combined it with this one too:
Thank you, Anon!
Hange gave a small laugh before saying, “Thank you Levi, I feel much better now.”
“Tch, you haven’t even done what we came here to do,” Levi scoffed.
Hange made a confused sound.
“Drop the dish.”
It had been 3 years since Shiganshina. Levi climbed into the carriage and sat across from Hange, who was still reading through her notes from the long and grueling meeting that lasted for the better part of the day. All the highest ranking military officials had been called to the capital to discuss Paradis’s best course of action. Queen historia was there, along with her staff, advisors, and of course Zackley. Levi had been to plenty of these meetings before, but this time was different in a bit of a distressing way.
Over the years, Levi had watched Erwin defend the scouts countless times. From questionable means of gathering information, to explaining away hundreds of lives lost, he always had an answer for everything and he always managed to leave with a favourable image. It was something Levi truly admired and even envied about Erwin.
But now he had been watching Hange flounder. She has indeed improved over the last 3 years, but she still doubts herself and while it might not be known to those around her, Levi can’t help but feel sympathetic to her situation. Today however, the other officials had been particularly ruthless.
“Take a break, Hange,” Levi ordered. Hange just sighed. Then her stomach growled. “Have you eaten today?”
“Uuuuuuuhhh,” Hange mused as she genuinely struggled to remember.
“Tch, there’s your answer,” Levi crossed his arms. The rest of the officials had a big dinner scheduled for tonight, but of course the Survey Corps got shafted and had to leave early in order to prepare. Hange met his eyes again with an exhausted look he was all too familiar with.
“How have you been sleeping?”
“Not great,” she admitted. Levi’s stomach sank. He had dealt with his own insomnia his whole life, but it seems worse on Hange. Perhaps it was the stark contrast from her former bubbly and loud personality. Hange pinched the bridge of her nose and let out another long sigh. Levi couldn’t help feeling inadequate and helpless. He rarely got himself to sleep, how could he help Hange?
Levi looked out the window at the setting sun when he got an idea. He realized what Hange had been neglecting while trying to be a good commander. Something that wasn’t just eating and sleeping. Something that was unique to Hange.
“Hange, there’s one more thing you need to do before we leave.”
Hange raised an eyebrow.
Levi told the driver to wait for them and escorted Hange to the dining hall.
“Levi, we were technically invited, but I don’t think showing up for food after we already said goodbye is a very good look for us,” Hange practically whispered.
Levi opened the doors and they were greeted with a sweet aroma of bread, appetizers, and whatever was going to be the main dish. Hange’s mouth watered. The long elegant table was decorated with ornate candles, beautiful china, crystal glasses, and there were 4 sets of cutlery for each place setting.
“Relax, they won’t be here just yet. They will all be busy getting dressed for dinner.”
Hange grabbed a bread roll and took a huge bite, not bothering to chew before she commented, “I never understood ‘dressing for dinner’ ugh. What’s the point?”
Levi was about to make a half hearted comment about how Hange could never fit in with “civilized” society, but he stopped himself when he saw she was eating and was a little bit more relaxed. He found a small plate of savoury looking appetizers and handed it to her. She immediately took one.
“MMM, Levi!” she exclaimed, pointing at the plate. She popped another in her mouth before saying, “you gotta try these!”
Levi put up a hand and said, “you enjoy.”
Hange enthusiastically cleared the whole platter in less than a minute, and Levi was watching her, endeared at the behaviour. He had missed this side of her. Despite how gross it was, there was a glimpse of the carefree Hange he once knew. A small hint of a smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
Then Hange belched.
“Disgusting,” Levi waved the air in front of his nose.
Hange gave a small laugh before saying, “Thank you Levi, I feel much better now.”
“Tch, you haven’t even done what we came here to do,” Levi scoffed.
Hange made a confused sound.
“Drop the dish.”
Hange’s one eye widened as she processed what Levi was saying.
“C’mon, you need to blow off some steam. They were total assholes to you today, and for what? You didn’t know the exact amount of your food budget? And yet,” Levi gestured to the banquet. He then picked up a delicate looking wine glass. He held his arm outstretched, and loosened his grip, letting it crash to the ground. “Oops.”
A mischievous smile stretched across Hange’s lips. “Oops,” she mimicked Levi and let the empty platter fall to the floor, breaking into dozens of pieces. She slowly started to lap around the long luxurious set up, like a predator admiring her prey before pouncing.
“Right? And Nile, ugh, what a hypocrite! Giving me shit for not knowing about that small thing, belittling me in front of everyone,” Hange snapped a salad plate against the edge of the table. “It wasn’t too long ago when he would have been the first to admit he had no idea what the first interior squad were up to! We had to find out for ourselves. Erwin was almost hanged!” Hange kicked a chair over on its side.
“Yeah, fuck Nile,” Levi egged her on. He took a seat at the head of the table and started sipping from one of the water glasses.
“Is this his spot?”
Levi shrugged but Hange was already pouring out a glass of wine all over the white seat, staining it a deep crimson. Levi hid his delight behind another sip.
“And did you catch what he said at the end? ‘Some of us have wives to get home to’”, she imitated in a mocking tone as she casually pushed a platter of dumplings off the table. “Yeah, run home, Nile. Run home to Erwin’s SLOPPY SECONDS!”
Levi blew water out of his nose, and before he could react, Hange reached under the short side of the table and flipped it over, sending its contents hurtling across the room. Hange was elated at the result, laughing almost maniacally.
“Idiot,” Levi hissed, grabbing Hange’s wrist and leading her out the side door. He heard footsteps, and so he instinctively dove into nearby shrubbery, taking Hange down with him.
They hid in the bushes for minutes, Levi pressing his hand to suppress Hange’s uncontrollable laughter. It had been so long since she’d laughed like this. It was infectious and Levi might have actually laughed himself, were it not for the fear of getting caught. He had no problem telling the MPs where to shove it, but he didn’t want Hange to get in trouble. Her whole body was convulsing, and it was rattling the leaves around her. Levi used all his body weight to stop her jerky movements.
After about another minute of total silence, Hange tapped Levi’s arm, signalling to let go. He was hesitant, but he obliged. Hange drew a couple deep breaths, fanning herself, trying to calm down from laughing so hard. Levi was transfixed by the way the moonlight danced on her tear-stained face. They stared at each other for a moment before Hange snickered once more, causing Levi to cover her mouth yet again. “You’re impossible,” he said, pushing her head back down.
Once the coast was clear, they ran back to their carriage, hand in hand. Partly because Levi wanted Hange to keep up, and partly because it felt nice to hold her hand. They ducked their heads until they were off of the main roads. A few minutes later, Hange started giggling again.
“What?” Levi asked.
Hange bit her lip playfully as she reached into her coat and pulled out a bottle of expensive wine she must have swiped from the banquet.
Levi rolled his eyes, but couldn’t help his smile. She looked like a child that just got away with stealing more dessert. She looked joyful for the first time in a long time. She yanked out the cork and took a swig before offering the bottle to Levi. He graciously accepted and tasted the wine for himself. It was too sweet for his taste, but he couldn’t deny that it was spectacular.
“That’s nice,” he commented.
“Pfft! It tastes the same as the cheap stuff!” Hange scoffed as she took the bottle back. Any other time, Levi would have teased her and started an argument, but not today. He wanted to cherish this moment. He leaned over to look at the stars through his window. Not a bad ending to an otherwise terrible day.
After Shiganshina, he and Hange had lost so much. Their comrades, friends; life as they knew it had completely changed and they barely had a moment’s breather to come to grips with it all. Levi was unfortunately accustomed to it, but Hange wasn’t. Hange had been so strong through all of this and Levi wanted to find the right words to tell her. Maybe it was the exhaustion they both felt; maybe it was the close proximity, but for some reason, somehow, Levi felt a tiny bit of courage surge through his veins.
“Hey, Hange, I-”
When he turned to look at her, she was fast asleep, neck crooked as she cradled the bottle of wine. Levi smiled at her. She looked peaceful, like she was getting quality sleep. He took the bottle from her arms and gently maneuvered her to a more comfortable, lying down position. He removed his jacket and draped it over her, as a make-shift blanket.
“Goodnight, Four-Eyes,” he mumbled to himself and returned to his seat. Hange slept the whole way home. When they finally arrived in the southern barracks, Levi couldn’t bring himself to wake her up. He quickly ran their luggage up to their rooms, and came back for Hange.
Being as gentle as he could, he scooped up the commander and ignored the curious look he got from the carriage driver. She was taller than him, and her long limbs made the trek a little difficult, but he was determined. Her steady breaths tickled the skin of his neck.
He carried her up the winding staircase and into her quarters. He lowered her on the bed, careful not to go too fast. He cradled her head for a split second longer than he needed too. He took off her long boots one at a time, placing them silently on the floor at the end of the bed. He undid the top two buttons of her jacket and shirt, just for comfort. Then he pulled the blanket up to her chin, and tucked around the sides.
Finally, he removed her glasses and eyepatch, caressing the tender skin underneath. Placing them on her night stand, he got up to leave. The door hinge creaked as he opened it, and Hange stirred.
“Mmm Levi?” She called out.
Levi wasn’t sure if she was actually awake, or if she was sleep-talking. He was still deciding whether he should answer when she continued, “Thank you, Levi. For everything.”
“You too, Hange,” he spoke just above a whisper, as he closed her door.
If your hands were free, you would have shielded your eyes as the blinding sun greeted you. You weren’t quite expecting it to be so bright. You knew the overhead world was nowhere near as dark as it was in the Underground City, you’d seen the rays of light spilling down from the toll gate but never in your life had you expected life to seem so..,
Vibrant.
Blinking a few times, you almost had to force yourself to remember your circumstances, gently pulling against your chains. The look of awe on your face was unmistakable.
“Holy shit…” you breathed, eyes now wide as you took in your surroundings. It was warm up here. Really warm. The sun gently beating down on the busy streets. Levi appeared next to you, pushing you forward to continue up the stairs.
“Don’t get used to it, you’ll be in a cell before long,” you were expecting to catch some satisfaction in his tone, but there was nothing other than contempt. You took a breath, managing to resist attempting to kick his shin as you kept climbing the stairs, now fully embraced in the sun’s light. Though it didn’t last as long as you would have liked. Sooner than you deemed necessary, if you were honest, a carriage clattered up in front of you. It was surprisingly lavish considering you were a criminal. Squinting in suspicion, your hesitation only earned a rough push against the back of your head.
“Get in.”
“You never were one for manners were you?” you drawled after stumbling clumsily into the carriage. The plush leather seats squeaking against your own getup, leather on leather disagreeing with each other.
“Not when it comes to people like you, no,” the raven haired man took up a seat opposite you, immediately folding his arms as staring out the small, curtained window. A muscle in your jaw flickered in irritation.
“People like me? You mean people like you? Or have you really forgotten where you came from? Did you lose brain cells as well as your sense of self?” god you just wouldn’t let up, would you? Levi rolled his eyes, successfully masking how much he hated the way you spoke to him. Like nothing ever happened between you. He understood. Of course he did. He knew why you were so upset. Why you were trying so hard to hurt him. He knew you wanted him to hurt the same way you did, but knowing what you were doing wasn’t going to stop the spear you kept repeatedly driving into his heart.
You attempted to shift ever so slightly, just so your hands weren’t painfully crushed against your back. Once again the thought of kicking him crossed your mind, but the situation wasn’t exactly in your favour right now.
It was only a few moments of awkward, deafening silence before you two were joined by both Erwin and Hange, the latter opting to sit next to you, seemingly not worried about whether or not you could still skin her alive even with your wrists bound. Erwin sat a respectable distance from you, despite the size of the carriage. The man barely fit, it was only because of your own size and the size of Levi did you assume you were all able to travel together. That still didn’t stop the man opposite you from throwing you a disgusted look as your knee grazed his. Just to piss him off, you did it again.
“SO! Raven, you’re joining the Scouts?” Hange blurted out, earning her a glare from Levi, a sigh from Erwin and a baffled scoff from you.
“Yeeeaaah… no. That’s not happening.”
“I’m afraid you don’t have a choice in the matter,” Erwin chimed in, almost defeatedly.
“Why don’t you just do what you usually do with criminals? Hang me as some sick entertainment for the public.”
“That can be arranged.”
“Levi…” Erwin warned lowly, to which Levi simply clicked his tongue in response.
Shit, that one hurt. He really didn’t care for you anymore, did he?
Once again, if you had your hands free, you would have run them through your hair. Joining the Scouts? That was never really something that ever crossed your mind. It didn’t seem to make sense. Why on earth would they want to draft you in? The question was swiftly pushed from your mind, replaced by another. Something you’d been burning to know ever since you realised the Scouts knew your location.
“Who was it?” you asked quietly, staring at your feet. Levi stiffened, shifting his eyes from the window back to you. Your demeanor struck a chord with him. You looked defeated, shoulders hunched over. “Who betrayed us? I just want to know.”
A heavy silence settled over the trio, none of them wanting to be the one who broke the news. The bond and connection between you and your Nest was strong. Trust ran through your veins, so to have it broken by any one of them was already shattering your very being.
“A woman. Brown hair, blue eyes. Scarlett, I think her name was,” at that moment, everything seemed to stop. Your world froze. It was Scarlett. Your own lover. Your wife. The woman you trusted more than any of them. She had betrayed you. Betrayed all of you. She was the one who put Una’s life in danger. The one who was responsible for the scar across her neck she would carry forever.
The three Scouts looked at each other, each not really knowing how you would react. Not even you knew how you were going to react. You were stuck in limbo. Everything and nothing was going through your mind. You didn’t know how long you’d sat there staring at nothing, simply trying to process this information, but it must have been an uncomfortably long time, if Erwin’s awkward throat clearing was any indication, gently bringing you back from your thought spiral.
“Oh.” was all you could manage, still not able to raise your head. Your eyes started to burn after not blinking for seemingly too long. How could she? How could she betray you? To the Military Police, of all people. You hadn’t cried for a very, very long time, but damn you were close.
Shit this entire ordeal had been difficult, but seeing you so defeated was next level. Levi dug his fingernails into his palm to stop himself from holding you. From comforting you. He still knew you well enough to tell when something was wrong. Very wrong. And although his stomach twisted slightly with the ideas of who this woman was running through his head, it was all he could do to tear his eyes from your hunched shoulders, returning his gaze to the window as the world passed him by.
“Did you know her?”
“Why would I tell you?” you tilt your head, glaring at Hange next to you, your jaw clenched. You may have just felt the last remaining fragment of your heart shatter, but that didn’t mean you would give them any more information than you had to.
“Raven, I give you my word, we will leave The Nest be,” Erwin tried his hand at reassuring you. None of this made any sense. Why were they being nice? Don’t they know how many soldiers you and your people had slaughtered? How much you had stolen from their warehouses?
You raised your eyes, seeing Levi glancing at you cautiously. Silver hues flicking over your defeated form with that same, cemented expression of boredom, before slowly looking back to the window. You spent the rest of the journey in silence, going over all the events that had led to this moment. How you could have possibly let this happen.
You trusted Prongs. You knew he would take care of your family. But Scarlett…
The bony claws of betrayal grasped your throat, gently squeezing until it became difficult to breathe. The walls of the carriage started closing in around you. Helplessness tainting the corners of your mind. You were stranded. Captured and soon to be forced into the military. To face those titans you’d heard so many people talk about.
You’d found the first man to ever hold your heart. You’d lost him, and then you’d found him again. And you could almost feel his hatred for you.
And though you put on a brave face. Though you put on an act to convince him you felt the same…
You couldn’t find it in your fractured heart to return his hatred.
The gentle, rhythmic clopping of hooves came to a slow stop, the door opening outwards to let the four of you out. Hange hopped down the step with seemingly boundless energy, before immediately engaging in conversation with a taller, worried looking man. Erwin stepped down, but once again you refused to move. If you could make their lives as difficult as possible, you would. Pure spite was fueling you now, your only current reason to carry on.
“Oi, move,” it was a blunt command, and one you paid no mind to. Not even raising your head to acknowledge Levi had said anything. “Hey. Did you lose your hearing on the way here? I said move,” a sharp kick to your shin prompted you to tilt your chin just enough to shoot another one of your glares in his direction. He too had to keep up his charade until he could get you alone and finally have a proper conversation.
“Go to hell,” was your only response, heavily debating spitting in his face as his hands once again grasped your arm. You flinched ever so slightly at the contact, something that didn’t go unnoticed, but it appeared Levi didn’t care.
Levi did care. Holy shit did Levi care. What the hell had happened to you to prompt you to flinch in such a way? Who the fuck had laid their hands on you? Who the fuck had hurt you like that? He allowed the rage to course through his veins, before letting it simmer down. He would deal with that later.
You stumbled as you were almost thrown from the carriage, knees colliding with the stone beneath you before you were dragged back to your feet
That fucking hurt. You started to think that maybe you could return his hatred. The next chance you got, you were driving you knee into his fucking gut. But for now, you decided to settle your glare on Erwin as he was talking to a darker haired man who kept glancing in your direction. It’s only now you realised your condition. You were filthy, mud and grime greasing your hair, blood and small cuts littering your face and knuckles, a dark bruise blossoming on the underside of your chin. Levi’s hand still held you firm, preventing you from even attempting to escape. Not that you would. You really couldn’t see the point, other than running into titan territory yourself. You tensed as the tall, haggard looking man approached you, apprehension mixed with disgust clouded his eyes, but it was an expression you refused to flinch away from.
“The Raven?” you couldn’t help raising a brow.
“Stupid fucking question. No, I'm just an innocent bystander dressed like The Raven for a costume party. I just so happened to think a pair of manacles clasped around my wrists completed the look,” you hissed sarcastically, and you could have sworn you heard something that could resemble a laugh from behind you, but it was so miniscule it was difficult to tell. If only this had been ten years ago.
You watched with satisfaction as a muscle twitched in his jaw, before the man managed to compose himself.
“My name is Niles Dok, Commander of the Military Police soldiers you seem to have so much fun slaughtering,” he introduced himself in a way that made it seem like the last thing he wanted to be doing was introducing himself to you right now.
“So? Do you want a written apology or something? Have to take these chains off me first,” you spat, with the innocent smile of an adder. This seemed to rile the man up more, to the point where he fisted your hair painfully, yanking your head up. His voice lowered to a dangerous murmur.
“Listen you little whore, I don’t know which door to hell you crawled out of, but I have men specially trained to deal with rats like you. They take pleasure in every agonised scream they can rip from your filthy mouth,” you refused to let your panicked, racing heart rule your mind, using every ounce of mental strength to hold his stare, firing back with a nasty glare of your own. And it took all of Levi’s willpower not to launch himself at the MP Commander.
“Go fuck yourself,” the retort came so naturally as you actually spat in his face. It gained you a much more satisfying reaction than you imagined you would get from Levi.
Swiftly removing his hand from your hair, you slumped back, staring up at the man between the now dishevelled strands. Wiping your saliva from his eye. You flinched as the back of his hand came up to strike you. Quicker than you would have expected, Levi was immediately by your side, eyes glinting with murderous intent. But before anything could happen, Niles’ hand was caught by Erwin behind him.
“Now, now Niles. Don’t go harming my soldiers,” his voice was borderline condescending as the MP Commander turned to look back to Erwin with an expression of disbelief.
“You can’t be serious? Erwin, this wasn’t part of the deal. You said—”
“I said we would aid you in capturing her. What happens to her after, is up to us. Think of it as collateral,” he reminded Niles of the deal they had struck before their meeting earlier.
“I didn’t think you would force her to join the Scouts. Are you insane?” It was a question Erwin had heard many times before.
“She’s just another calculated risk,” —he explained, before turning to his Captain— “Levi, take her to where she’ll be staying for the next week,” you had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on, but honestly, you were just glad Erwin stepped in when he did. You didn’t fancy whatever strike was about to land on you, and didn’t want to deal with whatever trauma it would drag up from your less than agreeable past. You didn’t have nearly enough time to unpack Levi’s own movements.
“Tch, why me? Why not Four Eyes?” his eyes slid to the scientist, who seemed to be engaged in an increasingly elaborate conversation with that poor, poor soldier. Even you felt a pang of pity for him.
“Because I’m afraid if I let Hange take her, she’ll end up in her lab rather than the cell,” Erwin sighed tiredly, looking at Levi with almost pleading eyes as the conversation behind him got louder and louder.
“Fine. But you owe me,” he responded, before tugging you away with him. You were almost sorry when you no longer felt the warmth of the sun on your back as he led you inside.
It was a walk full of disgusted glares and crude remarks. Clearly everyone had heard who you were by now, if that wasn’t evident by the snarls of “Bitch” and “Underground rat.” It didn’t really phase you. What these people thought about you was their issue, not yours. Though, you wouldn’t mind beating every single one of them within an inch of their lives given half the chance.
You failed to notice Levi’s ever darkening expression behind you. The glares promising a painful death thrown in every direction. The way a muscle flickered in his jaw at every passing comment. It was only until the hallway was empty did he feel that tension ease a little.
“Down here,” Levi instructed, leading you down a narrow staircase. As if you could go anywhere else.
“Yeah, no shit,” you snapped, earning you a harsh shoved down a few stairs.
“Don’t get smart with me.”
“Why? Afraid you won’t understand me?” that feigned sweetness to your tone was one you had perfected over the years he was gone, and was possibly your favourite form of sarcasm. He clearly didn’t dain your retort worthy of a response, the only sound to be heard being the echoing of your boots against the stone. It reeked of damp and rust, a different stench to the filth of the Underground. Speaking of which…
“You’re disgusting,” a flatly delivered insult was thrown your way as Levi guided you into one of the cells.
“I’m so sorry, I forgot to have a shower before you ambushed us. I’ll be sure to remember next time so I can smell like a fresh forest. I’m sure it would be a more homely smell for you,” you couldn’t help the sarcastic remarks that flew from your mouth. But you fell silent as he began removing your manacles. Instantly a plan formulated in your head. This could be your only chance at escaping. You just had to wait for the right moment.
As soon as the chains were removed from your wrists, you thrust your head backwards, in hope of catching his face. But you were met with nothing but air, and the sounds of quick footsteps behind you.
“You’re even easier to predict now you’re in a cell. Don’t try stupid shit like that,” did he forget how to change the emotion in his voice? He was never the most emotional person you’d met, but he would at least sometimes change his voice from ‘bored’ to ‘slightly irritated’. You were starting to wonder what else he had forgotten during his time here when the iron bar door to your cell was slammed shut, the key clicking in the lock. Now you were certain you couldn’t escape, you took in your living space for the next week. The bare minimum had been provided. A bed with no bed clothes, a rustic sink you weren’t even sure worked, and a broken mirror. Great.
The scraping of a chair behind you piqued your curiosity, turning you head to see Levi had taken a seat in front of your cell door, elbows resting on his knees.
“The fuck are you doing?” you asked, rising from your knees to turn and lean against the wall, arms folded.
“Waiting,” god damn his single word responses. You huff in frustration.
“Waiting for what?”
“You.”
“I could strangle you with my bare hands and feel absolutely nothing right now.”
“You’d have to escape first.”
“What makes you think I can’t?”
“What makes you think you can?”
As much as you hated to admit it, he was right. There didn’t seem to be any way you could escape these walls, you’d already done a quick run down. Threading your hands through your hair in irritation, you cross to sit on the pathetic material they thought was a bed.
“So?” you ask, still no closing to knowing what the hell he wanted. Once again, he didn’t deem your question worthy of a vocal response, opting instead to raise a thin eyebrow. You briefly fantasise about driving one of your long lost daggers into his goddamn eye, before simply brushing it off with a roll of your eyes. “Fine. Stay there and stare at me. It’s your time you're wasting,” you shrugged, flopping back onto the bed, arms thrown out either side of you.
“What have you been up to?” you couldn’t help the bark of sour laughter at the question.
“Seriously?”
“What?”
“After all this time, the first thing you ask me is what I’ve been up to?”
“Would you prefer me to ask you something else?”
“What’s on the menu?”
For a moment, it almost felt like no time had passed since you’d last seen each other. It felt like only yesterday did he have you in his arms, curled up in his bed, gently running his hands over your exposed waist, revelling in how soft your skin was against his.
Running a hand through his dark locks to bring himself out of his thoughts, he changed the trajectory of his questioning.
“Who taught you to fight like that?
“Self-taught.”
“Bullshit,” you winced at his response, raising your head slightly to stare at him, wondering who gave him the audacity to doubt you.
“Oh yeah? Not all of us had the advantage of stupidly strong genes, shortstuff,” shit, you hadn’t said that nickname in a long, long time. Clearly he hadn’t heard it for a long time either, judging by the way his eyes widened his body stilled. Neither of you were able to comment on the irony of the name, considering you were just as vertically challenged. Managing to shake yourself from your daze first, you realised that was a lot for both of you. “Sorry,” you murmured, averting your gaze.
“No, it’s… fine,” there was no malice in his voice. No hatred, a surprise that caused you to turn your head back to face him. Levi cleared his throat before continuing. “How’d you get that scar?” the second question caught you off guard, not expecting anything so personal so quickly. Naturally, you responded with something sarcastic.
“Tea party gone wrong,” an irritated sigh echoed off the dank walls, clearly not satisfied with your answer.
“What happened to you, Raven...?” if it wasn’t for the acoustics of the room, you would have missed the comment, but your heart clenched painfully as the third question reached your ears.
“You left, so I moved on,” you didn’t mean to sound so small or vulnerable. You didn’t mean to drag your knees up to your chest and clasp your arms around them. You didn’t mean to turn your head again, avoiding his gaze.
Levi mentally begged you not to look that way. He’d never seen you so insecure. And that itself broke his resolve.
Standing from his chair, Levi crossed the small space to the barred doors, not thinking twice about unlocking it and leaving the key in the lock. His body was almost acting on a it’s own. Years of taking you into his arms and holding you suddenly came back to him and he wanted nothing more than to take you in his arms once again.
But he hesitated.
You both did.
After raising your head to look at him, you watched as he stopped in the centre of your cell. Almost as if he was silently asking for some sort of permission to just do something.
You shifted slightly so you were leaning against the iron bars rather than the stone wall to the back, Levi taking this as the silent permission he needed to take a seat next to you.
Shit, the instinct to throw yourself into his arms was almost overwhelming, but you refrained, not wanting that kernel of hope to smoulder into nothing when he rejected you.
Levi was the first to break the silence.
“Hey.”
“Hey,” you responded, looking up to him between the loose, mangled strands of hair now obscuring your face just a bit. Age had been kind to him. His features, now much more defined. He was still the same man you knew back then, but this one was more chiseled. You looked away when his eyes found yours.
“You look like shit.”
“I feel like shit.”
“I’m sorry.”
“I know.”
It wasn’t the exchange you were expecting, this quick back and forth, but you wouldn’t say it was unwelcome. A familiar warmth started to spread in your chest.
“How’s the jaw?” you asked, eyes wandering to the now hefty bruise against his pale, soft skin. You remembered when you used to leave marks of similar colour all over his body. His neck, collarbones, abdomen, thighs…
“‘S’fine. How’s the chin?” his own eyes slid back to you, silver irises scanning your face briefly.
“Yeah. Fine,” you let the silence settle for a moment, before breaking it again. “Sorry I kicked you,” Levi grunted in quiet amusement.
“It was a damn good plan. Sorry I knee’d you,” it was only when he heard your gentle chuckle did he realise just how much he’d missed you. Every fibre in his body was begging him to roughly tug you into his body. To cup your face in his hands and seal your lips with a burning kiss. But all that changed when he shifted slightly and you flinched at the sudden movement. He stilled, waiting for you to relax again before he too settled back down.
“You knew her, didn’t you?” it was a rhetorical question. Your reaction after the reveal told him everything. Not only did you know her, but she was somebody close to you.
You stayed silent for a couple moments, not really knowing how to respond to his shift in conversation. You decided to match it.
“Yeah. I did,” you wouldn’t tell him. Not unless he asked. You wouldn’t tell him who she was to you. What she was to you. That still fucking hurt like hell.
“‘M’sorry.”
“You say that a lot,”
“You’re one to talk,”
You didn’t even try to quell your small laugh, letting it echo off the stone walls. Even Levi couldn’t stop a small chuckle at your amusement, feeling himself completely at ease in your presence.
“Did you really move on?” it was his turn to feel small. His turn to feel a little vulnerable. He couldn’t bear the thought of you just moving on from what the two of you had. Just throwing it all in the past and leaving it there.
“Yes and no.”
“The hell does that mean?”
You sighed, tightening your grip around your knees. You hoped this wouldn’t be as painful for him to hear as it would be for you to say, but you didn’t hold out much hope.
“Yes, I moved on. I’m not the same girl I was. Trust me on that. I’m not the same girl you fell in love with, nor the girl who fell in love with you,” you had to take a breath, suddenly finding the air down here far too thick. “She wouldn’t have survived down there. That girl would have been killed by some pig the moment you left. So... I killed her myself. You already know I’ve been part of The Nest for a while, but I wasn’t really one of them, if you get what I mean. I didn’t stay with them, I didn’t eat with them. Sure, Viper took me in after my—“ you stopped, burying that can of worms before you even opened it. That wasn’t something you wanted to bring up right now. “Viper took me in, taught me a few things, but I stayed with you. I didn’t have to be one of them when I was with you. But when you left… I didn’t exactly have a choice. I couldn’t be so naive anymore. I couldn’t be so hopeful. I had to be realistic, and to be realistic, I had to hurt a lot of people. I had to see a lot of things,” you allowed the weight of your words to settle before you continued. “But that girl. That girl you knew. She never stopped loving you. Up til the moment she drew her last breath and I took over. She loved you. But I moved on,” you fell silent, realising that yes, this had been just as painful for him to hear as it was for you to say.
It was a long while before Levi spoke again, nowhere near as confident as he was.
“That’s who she was to you,” just as he thought seeing you again couldn’t get anymore painful. Just as he thought your words couldn’t get anymore painful. “You loved her?”
“Yes, but not completely. Part of me was still devoted to you. I think that’s why she did what she did. Scarlett was never a spiteful person, but she did hold one hell of a grudge against you. And I suppose, in a way, me,” the silence was so thick you thought you could cut it with one of your blades.
“She’s still there.”
“Hm?”
“That girl. She’s still there. You’re still in there.”
“Now look who’s being naïve,”
“You’re trying to tell me this new, supposedly ruthless killer would kick the shit out of some soldiers for hurting a kid. You’re trying to tell me this new cold hearted thief would bring medicine to an elderly woman and her son?”
“I—”
“You’re telling me this new, heartless little dealer would earn the respect and thanks of thousands of Underground rats? Because to me, that sounds like bullshit… (Y/N),” he wouldn’t accept it. You weren’t gone, he could see it in your actions. You were still there. His (Y/N) was still in there.
Hearing your name in his low, warm tone after all this time sent a jolt through your system. And when he turned to look at you, he could see silver lining your eyes. It took everything in him not to reach up and gently wipe them away.
“I’m not going to stop until you see what I see. I’m not going to let you think you’ve become this heartless, mindless killer just because you had to adapt. Because you had to survive. I’ve finally found you again. Do you know how long I searched for you? How many hours I spent tracing every single path I knew you would take. Asking every filthy mongrel I could find. Most of them said you were dead. Some of them said you were missing and hadn’t been seen in months. Years, even. But until I found a body, or some kind of proof you were dead, I couldn’t accept it,” well this certainly caught you off guard. Levi was never one for long, heartfelt speeches, or verbal communication at all, actually. So this was a little overwhelming. Two tears slipped down your cheeks, sliding through the sudden cracks in your defenses and leaving a trail through the thin layer of grime and dirt.
Levi kept his eyes trained ahead, knowing that if he saw you crying, his restraint would break and he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from holding you. But he knew he couldn’t. From the way you’d reacted to his small movements, he knew suddenly tugging you into him would scare you.
“I’m sorry,” your small voice wrapped around his fragile heart, both settling it and cracking it. He went to extend his hand towards you with the intention of smoothing down your hair, but the way you winced, almost anticipating something much more intense, made him stop. Shit, you really did look like a husk of your former self. He remembered the way your eyes used to glint even in the low lighting of the Underground.
“You should rest,” it was an appealing enough suggestion. Enough to draw a barely concealed yawn from you. Leaning your head against the iron bars behind you, you swore you could have fallen asleep there and then. Comforted by his presence.
You immediately missed his presence as soon as he stood, tempted to reach out for his hand but not wanting to push him away.
As if he felt your confliction, Levi stopped to turn back to you.
“I’ll be back in the morning. Rest, (Y/N),” it wasn’t like you could disobey when your mind and body was so eager to sleep.
“Fuck…” you muttered, running a hand down the side of your face, exhaustion hitting you like a punch to the gut. This wasn’t exactly how you saw your day going today, but you couldn’t exactly say you weren’t thankful. You didn’t know what you were, honestly. So much had happened, you knew you would need time to process everything.
The screech of metal against metal alerted you to the key once again locking you within the cell. Dipping your head, you watched the dark haired man return the keychain to a small nail in the wall.
“Hey…” Levi turned to you as you called out, his expression as soft as it was a few moments ago. “It’s really good to see you again,” a thousand butterflies suddenly exploded in his stomach. How long had he been waiting to hear those words? And suddenly, he found himself unable to reply.
“Tch, go to sleep, Raven,” he reveled in your amused hum as he turned on his heel, leaving you to recover after today.
꧁ꨄ꧂
Levi ran a hand through his hair. Sitting at his desk in his orderly kept office, he could barely focus on the reports in front of him. That haunted look in your eyes had left a significant mark on him. The way you now spoke was so different to the bubbly younger girl he knew.
With a shake of his head, he attempted to divert his attention back to the account of the mission today. You’d taken down a few of his men yourself, he recalled watching your blades find purchase in his makeshift squad. A few others hadn’t returned from where they’d chased your Shadows. Actually, most others didn’t return.
As predicted, it was a bloodbath.
Leaning forward, he reached for his tea, continuing to scan over the document until his eyes settled on your alias, and he couldn’t help but wonder why you hadn’t told anyone your name. It prompted a memory he wasn’t expecting. He’d tried so many times to bury his past. Thinking about it saved him from thinking about his lost friends. But it was unavoidable.
“Hey! ‘Re’ya gonna buy anything? Or you just gonna keep staring?” Levi peaked out from behind the legs of a taller man, peering at the young girl who seemed to be giving his father figure sass. He couldn’t understand it. Didn’t she know who he was? She didn’t look much older than him. Maybe eight? Nine even?
“Listen little missy, I don’t think you wan’ to rush me,” the southern lilt of Kenny’s dangerously low voice didn’t seem to deter the little merchant. Levi’s eyes widened as she folded her arms, her grubby face creasing as she frowned. For someone so young, she certainly had an impressive glare.
“Or what? You gonna kill me? I sell to the whole street, mister. You kill me, they starve,” Wow, she really seemed to have this whole thing going for her. Levi looked up at Kenny, able to just make out the subtle smile under the shadow of his hat.
“What’s your name, little girl?
“Hmph. What’s it to you?” she retorted, stepping closer. It was only then she seemed to notice his presence. Her glare seemed to soften almost instantly, head tilting in sheer curiosity. Her sparkling, (E/C) eyes widened upon seeing him there. He only occupied a fraction of her attention, before it returned to Kenny, that scowl also returning.
“You’ve got guts kid, I’ll give you that. But maybe that’s simply cuz you don’t know who I am,” he mused, picking up one of the loaves of bread you were currently selling. They weren’t fresh. Nothing ever was. But it was the best your family had to offer.
“Kenny the Ripper, right? Yeah, I’ve heard of you. Seen your ugly face in the newspaper when those shits up top toss their trash through the grates. And you better buy that now your filthy hands have been all over it,” Levi couldn’t tell if this girl was brave or stupid. He’d never heard anyone speak to Kenny like that and actually get away with it.
“(Y/N) (L/N)! Watch your language young lady! And what have I told you about mouthing off to customers?!” her face quickly morphed from a glare to something he could only describe as sheepish. An older woman leaning out from the door behind you. Her hair colour was different to yours, but those eyes… they were your eyes.
“But Maaaaa, I was just—“
“No buts. Inside, now,” her voice was stern, but Levi was perceptive from a young age. He could see the softness in her eyes as the girl pouted. Turning back, he watched her send a cheery wave goodbye in his direction, pausing slightly as it wasn’t returned. Her brows furrowed, before she darted inside.
“Quite the brat you got there,” Kenny remarked, handing over a coin in payment for the bread he’d picked up.
“Yeah, sorry about her. Pain in my ass but her heart’s in the right place. I hope,” Levi wasn’t really paying attention to the conversation, too distracted by watching the same girl clamber out the open window and onto the ledge above. Only using her right hand to climb, she paused, as if calculating something before shimmying along the wall, round the corner and out of sight. Before Levi even had time to question what the hell he’d just witnessed, her head popped round the corner, eyes searching for him. He raised his brows in question when she gestured for him, whipping back round the corner. Seeing Kenny still caught up in conversation, he quietly left the two adults, heading for the narrow alleyway she’d just ducked into.
“Hey,” the whisper made him whirl, stopping to see her cautiously step from the shadows near the wall. “You looked hungry, so I stole this from our stocks,” it became apparent as to why she was only using one hand to climb when she presented another, slightly smaller loaf of bread. It wasn’t as stale as the ones on the stall. “We got fresh ingredients yesterday. My father’s a baker but we only sell the stale ones because we wouldn’t be able to keep up with the demand for fresh bread,” she explained quietly, her eyes wide in earnest. If it wasn’t for his ravenous hunger, Levi would have declined the offer. However, the smell was too good to pass up on. Slowly, he reached for it, half expecting her to snatch it back. But her honest expression remained, only retracting her hand after he’d taken a bite. “Don’t talk much, do you? That’s okay, I get a lot of people who are shy.”
Crossing her legs, she lowered herself to the floor, resting her back against the wall to what he could only assume was her house. He followed suit, sitting opposite her in the damp alleyway.
“Your dad’s an asshole, by the way. Very obkonshus,” Levi assumed she was trying to say obnoxious, but didn’t correct her. He almost found it endearing.
“He’s not my dad,” his blunt response had her head whipping back to look at him, almost in disbelief that he had actually spoken. A small blush blossomed across her cheeks at her mistake.
“O-oh. Sorry. I didn’t know,” an awkward silence settled over them, before she spoke up again. “Your not-dad’s an asshole,” Levi glanced at her, noting her cheeky smirk. His own lips twitched in amusement. She wasn’t wrong. Kenny was an asshole.
They stayed there until he’d finished his bread, (Y/N) simply talking about everything and nothing.
“Where’d that little rat scurry away to?” Kenny’s drawl interrupted your little conversation, prompting the both of you to shoot to your feet. The girl shot him a worried look, not knowing how this was going to play out. Levi was never one to offer reassurance, never really needing to, until now. He tried his hand at a reassuring expression, before stepping out the alleyway a little.
“Here, I was just—” he looked back to the narrow street where she just was, only to find she’d completely disappeared. His eyes widened ever so slightly, attempting to peer further down the alley. How had she done that? She was right there. Maybe you’d already started your climb? His eyes travelled up the side of the wall, but found nothing.
“The fuck are you lookin’ at brat? C’mon, we’re leavin’,'' Kenny strode past him, roughly tugging him along. But Levi wasn’t looking where he was going, silver eyes still glued to that alley, waiting for her to emerge. But she never did.
A harsh knock on his door snapped him out of his memory spiral. How long had he been sitting here? Usually he had a good grasp on time but right now it could have been four in the morning or two in the afternoon. Running a hand down the side of his face, he went to sip his tea, grimacing as the now cold liquid graced his tongue. Setting it down almost immediately, he would have forgotten anyone knocked on his door in the first place had they not knocked again.
“Levi? Are you in there?” Erwin. Great.
“The fuck do you want Eyebrows?” Erwin clearly took that as permission to enter. Not that he needed permission.
Levi raised his eyes as his Commander strode in, pushing the door closed behind him.
“I was wondering if you managed to get information out of our little criminal.”
Levi’s jaw flexed.
“No.”
“Nothing?” Erwin seemed a little surprised and Levi couldn’t for the life of him think why. He didn’t know about your relationship, and it wasn’t like he was well practiced in his social skills.
“Nothing. She’s refusing to say anything other than annoying, sarcastic quips.”
“You two aren’t so different then.”
“Oi,” Erwin chuckled at Levi’s low warning, holding up an apologetic hand.
“Apologies, forgive me. It was just a joke,” Levi rolled his eyes, clicking his tongue as Erwin took a seat on the leather sofa, crossing an ankle over his knee. “I’m surprised. I thought you two may get along. Considering your shared upbringing,” if he wasn’t talking to Levi, anyone else would have thought it was an innocent enough assumption. But over the years, Levi had learned Erwin’s tells, and knew when there was something deeper going on. But still, there was no way he could know about your literal shared past.
“She’s abrasive, rude, cocky and thoroughly unpleasant. Why on earth would we get along?” Levi knew he was lying through his teeth. Whilst yes, you were in fact abrasive, cocky and rude, you were far from unpleasant. He wouldn’t have shared his heart with you if you were.
Erwin pinched the bridge of his nose. Suddenly he looked incredibly tired, like he hadn’t slept in weeks.
“Did you know her? From your time down there. Did you two ever run into each other?” straight to the point, it seemed. Erwin hadn’t missed the Captain’s flash of recognition back when you’d taken your mask off. He hadn’t missed the way he froze to the spot.
But Levi wasn’t about to open up to anyone, especially not the same Commander that had dragged him kicking and screaming into the Scouts.
Truth be told, after that first interaction, Levi had tried his damndest to see you again at every opportunity. He’d never been shown that sort of kindness since his mother died, and he didn’t want your little spark to be snuffed out by the Underground. He didn’t speak to you very often, only silently offering to walk you home at night, warding off any unwanted attention a young woman would draw.
He offered to share his small home with you when you were both around fourteen. It had been two years since Kenny abandoned him, and he noticed you looked directionless, and though it had taken a while for you to open up, he was happy for you to stay with him until you found somewhere else.
He just never expected to fall in love with you, or for you to fall in love with him.
“No. I’ve never seen her before,” Levi lied, keeping his eyes trained on the same document he must have been staring at for the last god knows how long, too lost in his own mind to concentrate.
Erwin wasn’t quite as good at reading Levi, and so accepted that as his truthful answer.
“Very well, I bid you a good night, Captain,” ah. So it was nighttime. Noted.
“Yeah yeah, see you tomorrow,” Levi waved his hand dismissively, once again earning another chuckle from Erwin as the door was pulled shut.
Levi almost instinctively reached for his tea again, only just remembering it was stone cold. He sighed in irritation, rising from his chair. He didn’t think there was enough tea in the world to help him sort through his thoughts. But damn if it didn’t make it easier.
Rolling his now stiff shoulders, he picked up the cold brew and headed to the kitchen. It was going to be a long night.
꧁ꨄ꧂
Sleeping in the Underground City was a luxury. Despite your exhaustion, sleep didn’t come easily. You assumed you must have dozed off for an hour at least before the faint sound of multiple footsteps had you sitting bolt upright, your muscles barking in protest. You were always aware of your surroundings. Always ready, even when you may look like you were resting.
You didn’t quite know what to expect, quickly running through several scenarios and possibilities in your head. One of those possibilities rounded the corner from the stairs. Four MP soldiers now stood outside your cell, one jiggling the keys into the lock. Immediately you stood, not going down without a fight. Though it wasn’t much of one. Before you had even landed a proper blow on any of them, you were harshly kicked to the floor. Your body having not woken up properly yet, you were easy enough to subdue as they clasped your wrists together in front of you with rope. Not what you were expecting but it was more comfortable than behind your back.
You stayed silent as they dragged you further deeper into the complex of jails and cells. You didn’t imagine they would span this far beneath what you assumed was the headquarters, but nonetheless you kept walking until you were faced with a wooden door. The same soldier fiddled with the lock until it swung open and you were kicked inside.
Raising your head, you saw the room wasn’t exactly empty. An array of bats and blunt trauma objects rested against the far side of the wall, but that wasn’t what threw the spear of terror into your heart.
A single, iron hook extended down from the ceiling. It looked like it would be used for bleeding or drying meat, but you could think of several other uses for it. For example, your current situation.
The door locking behind you had your head whirling, eyes darting from the man with the key to the wood that now trapped you inside.
“Ah, Raven. I’m sure our commander forewarned you about this, I don’t really know why you look so surprised,” you shivered at the fake pleasant tone, a stark contrast to the way you were now being tugged to your feet, arms thrown up above you. You realise now why they used rope instead of chains, your wrists being hooked up above you. Your feet now only just grazing the floor, head falling between your shoulders with your loose thin shirt riding up your stomach. You suddenly regretted shedding your leather jacket earlier, wanting to be a little more comfortable as you attempted to sleep.
“We have strict instructions not to permanently damage you, however we have various other methods,” one of your torturers stalked behind you, reaching up to twist the hook so you spun with him, now facing the wall of weaponry. The other three who had accompanied you all leant against the wall to you right, as if waiting for their turn. “I thought I would be kind enough to let you choose which we start with. Since you’d be the one on the receiving end,” the sick fuck. He was really enjoying this wasn’t he?
“At least tell me what you fucking want,” you spat, thrashing slightly in your bonds. The man simply laughed, crossing to the selection.
“Oh, we don’t want information. Just for you to suffer as much pain as we did when you killed our comrades,” ah, so they had personal connections. Understood.
“I’d do it again in a heartbeat,” your crooked, satisfied grin faltered as his expression darkened, crossing the room towards you in a few strides. Roughly grabbing your chin, he forced your head up to meet his gaze as you writhed in his tight grip.
“You know, you were quite the formidable criminal down there. Slaughtering and murdering whoever you pleased. Harming those who had done nothing to you. But look at you now, strung up like a squealing pig. Fuck, if it isn’t satisfying to see,” he threw your head back down before driving his foot into your gut. The impact sent you swinging backwards, saliva flying from your mouth.
Raising your eyes, you shot him a visceral glare as he browsed his collection of weapons as if he was picking out a pastry at a bakery. Opting for the classic wooden bat, you braced yourself for the night to come, knowing it was going to be a long one.
