supernatural s13e17 the thing (w. davy perez)

i'm just hoping for a middling episode at this point. if i had to point to one plot thing that opened the door to so much of the nonsense of later seasons, it's the whole men of letters concept. like a neverending excuse to make up new magic, monsters, good guys, bad guys. i like that it gave them a home, but i really don't enjoy that set. it's so sterile and meh. wish they had a crusty weird house packed with shit, like bobby's place. anyway. long held irritation over mol. and the british men of letters storyline is like all those things i hate x1000. i see how they're kind of working ketch like crowley, what side is he working for, loyal to himself in the end, etc. but i just can't give a flying fuck about ketch because of the infuriating b!mol arc. and mark sheppard had years to work into that role and for them to develop it. meh!

tentacle monster coming through the nexus with the beautiful young flapper lady is chained to the table...... ok....

also where did those randos get archangel grace in the 20s

well that little research montage sequence was cute. is the "jinkies" thing to tease sam about velma kissing him? or just general acknowledgement that the scooby episode did actually happen -_-

spn s13e17 key to chapterhouse / hannibal s3e6 reunited in the uffizi / the magicians s3e5 key to fillory clock door

so two things that jumped out at me about this scene. first, it just had a little more atmosphere and pretty for pretty's sake with the crumbled leaves falling through the shaft of light - which all kind of hit the magicians buttons for me. and secondly, the music... (this is a lennertz episode) it has brief shades of bloodfest (the music used in That Scene in hannibal s2e13 mizumono and kind of became will and hannibal's big emotion music) which automatically makes the spn music hit all sorts of emotional buttons that it didn't earn. now i think they've used that sound before, but combined with the scene and the atmosphere which is so often lacking in the later seasons, it really hit for me. (totally cried just getting that small clip from hannibal with the music, think bryan fuller said something about this piece of music resonates at the frequency of his tear ducts)

i have posted a lot about the musical score in hannibal - here's my masterpost :S ok one more thing about that piece, an essay by kate schau talking about brian reitzell's score in hannibal:

In a 2014 interview with Vulture, Reitzell describes it as “musically, probably the crown jewel of the whole season.” While most of Reitzell’s work for the score is predominantly sparse and percussive, “Bloodfest” adopts a more tonal, texturally dense approach. As a nod to The Silence of the Lambs’ association of Bach’s Goldberg Variations with Hannibal the Cannibal’s violent impulses, “Bloodfest” takes its well-known opening aria and slows it down by a factor of twenty; here it also undergoes pervasive electronic distortion. The resulting work is beautiful, haunting, and utterly essential to the atmosphere of the scene. The syrupy-slow melody of the aria gives it the trancelike quality of meditation, but none of the objectivity; like a premonition of heartbreak, it seems to operate in a temporally detached space of reminiscence where emotion is both immediate and far away.

i often bemoan the show that could have been with a different composer at the helm, but will add to the list if they could have kept the look and feel dark gritty messy aesthetics of the early seasons. so much of the later seasons is just too bright, too saturated, too sterile. sucks the vibes right out. it's sad.

sammy gettin a little jealous there. railroading sam on a decision like this feels like poking the bear. poking that giant little brother you don't get to make decisions for me bear. but i do at least appreciate that dean actually explains that a) he would worry about sam dying, unlike ketch and b) that sam can come save him if it goes sideways if they're not both there. script had dean saying please. guess they decided no please was necessary

Sam finally let himself sit on the chair next to the bed, taking a breath.  There was nothing left to do now but wait and hope- hope that Gabriel would be alright, hope that Dean would return, hope that Jack and Mom would be okay-

Sam had already done all he could, on all fronts. Gabriel sat against the wall, curled up, though he still kept Sam in his sights, lest the hunter make any sudden moves. But the stitches were off his face, and he had been bathed and wrapped in a fluffy robe, and, though Sam had joked about the dead man who had once worn it, Gabriel didn’t seem to care as he rubbed his fingers against the fabric.

But even through all that, he still hadn’t spoken. Whimpered, once or twice, if Sam accidentally moved too quick or pressed a clean cloth against the wounds.  He’d made a near pornographic noise at the heat of the bath, but there had been no words in that as he sank down into the bubbles. Only silence as Sam had washed hair and skin, draining and refilling the water three times before the archangel had been cleansed.  Even now, though he was slightly more relaxed as he tugged the robe tight around himself, he wasn’t speaking.  

It felt unnatural, feeling the archangel’s gaze without hearing that voice.  Even after all these years, that was what Sam remembered- Gabriel’s voice.  Even when the amber eyes faded from his dreams or the bouncing step dissipated from his memory, the voice remained, and now, even that was gone.

The gaze prickled against Sam’s skin, and he hesitated a moment, before breaking the silence himself.  “You want anything?” he asked.  “Food, more water?  Whatever you need.”  

There was no answer, though Gabriel blinked- whether that was simply a reflex against dust or was a response, Sam wasn’t sure.

He hesitated, and continued talking, trying to fill the silence.  “I’m so sorry,” he added.  “About all this… I should have known you weren’t really gone…I just… I saw the wings burned into the ground, and I assumed…”  He trailed off.  This wasn’t working, and Gabriel was still watching him.  It wasn’t so much a stare now- it had dulled into more of a lazy observance.  

Sam hesitated, then stood, and too late he remembered to warn Gabriel about the movement, because the archangel flinched, back on high alert.  “Sorry, sorry,” he said, holding up his hands.  “I just thought I’d grab the HDMI cable and the laptop… for Netflix.  Um, they stream TV shows now… I don’t remember what year they started, but-”

Gabriel made a noise at him that was little more than a huff of air.  Sam froze, blinking, but when Gabriel added nothing else to the expression, he nodded. “Right… I’ll be back in a minute.”

He felt eyes follow him all the way out the door, and he bit his lip.  Gabriel was not in good shape, but he wasn’t terrified anymore… at least, Sam hoped. He was relaxing a bit, Sam thought, but he didn’t want to push Gabriel quicker than he could go.  He had been through a trauma, and there was no easy fix for that.  Hell, Sam knew that better than anybody.

Laptop and cable in hand, Sam headed back towards the bedroom, only to hesitate and loop back to the kitchen.  They didn’t have much by means of victuals, the grocery store falling low on their list of priorities, but when he combed through the kitchen, he was able to come up with half a bag of M&Ms, some discount Easter candy, and a package of strawberries.  He hesitated, then scooped up all the food items along with the laptop and cord, and returned to the bedroom.

Gabriel moved suddenly when Sam reentered, settling back and shifting his gaze to the wall.  Sam pretended he didn’t notice that Gabriel had been staring at the door and dumped the foodstuff on the bed stand before moving to plug in the computer.  

“Okay,” he said, looking back.  “What do you want to watch?”

Gabriel tilted his head, gaze moving from the food to Sam, and half shrugged.

Inwardly, Sam rejoiced, and he had to fight to keep from grinning.  A shrug- that was a response.  There was no mistaking that for an accidental movement.  “C’mon, dude,” he said, slowly sitting on the end of the bed, making sure that Gabriel could see each movement before it happened.  “I know you like TV… you made that one kind of obvious.”

Gabriel was still quiet, though his eyes flicked once between Sam and the M&Ms.

“Those are for you,” Sam added, nodding.  “I mean, originally they were Dean’s, but I think you need them more.  Have as much as you like.  But if you don’t pick a show, we’re watching a documentary, got it?”

And there was another response, this time a wince, and for a split second, Sam thought that he’d pushed too hard, that he’d accidentally triggered Gabriel-

But no, there was no emotion behind the wince except for a disgusted wrinkling of his nose, and this time, Sam did grin.  “You don’t like documentaries, huh?  What do you like then?”  He hesitated.  “Please don’t say you’re into that dumb Doctor McDreamy show that Dean secretly watches. I thought you just put us in that for him.”

Gabriel’s eyes narrowed slightly, and this time, he went for the M&Ms- only to throw one at Sam.  It bounced off his shoulder and onto the floor, and Sam’s eyes went wide- that tiny act of rebellion was the first real sign of life that he’d seen from Gabriel since he’d shown up.  

“It’s still on?”  It was a whisper, barely more than a breath, and if all of Sam’s attention wasn’t trained on Gabriel, he would have missed it.  

Sam couldn’t stop his own beaming now, though he was careful to not jump up in celebration.  He didn’t want to throw Gabriel backwards, back into that state of terror.  “Unfortunately,” he said, and turned to the laptop to scroll down to Dr. Sexy, MD. “What season did you leave off on?”  He glanced up, perfectly willing to accept vocals or just a number of fingers held up.

But Gabriel shook his head, tugging the robe tighter around himself.  “The beginning,” he whispered, in a tone just as weak as the first time.  “You need-” He broke off in a dry cough, and Sam was there a moment later, with the already half-drunk bottle of water.  Gabriel took it, finishing it, before breathing a moment. “You need to see the whole thing,” he murmured, and this time, instead of a simple whisper, there was a ghost of his voice in the words as well.  

Sam blinked.  “I don’t know if-”

Another M&M bounced off his chest.

Sam sighed, but relented, starting the show from the beginning and setting the laptop on the dresser beside the TV.  He made a move back towards the chair, but hesitated at a noise from the bed.  

Gabriel was eyeing him, and again, he patted the mattress beside him.  Sam hesitated, then gingerly sat beside the archangel, stretching his legs out on the mattress, careful to keep space between them.

Gabriel didn’t particularly care for that space, balancing the bag of M&Ms on Sam’s thigh and leaning his head on Sam’s chest. When Sam didn’t immediately comply, he physically picked up the hunter’s arm to move it around his body.  Sam snorted, but allowed it, inwardly laughing in celebration.  Gabriel was okay- hurt, maybe, but he would be fine.

“Shut up.”  Gabriel’s lips ghosted against Sam’s ear when he spoke.  “Stop thinking about me and watch.”

Pairing: Gabriel x reader

Warnings: swearing. Sad, broken Gabriel. Kinda spoilers for s13e17?

A/N: this is really bad but I’m currently having loads of Gabriel feels so I’m gonna at least try.

He’s alive. How? Lucifer killed him. You and the boys watched the far from appropriate Casa Erotica with Gabriel himself confirming the archangel’s death. Whatever the case, Gabriel was here and looking very much worse for wear. You were about ready to kick Ketch’s sorry ass if it weren’t for the fact that Sam held you back. After justifying that this was Asmodeus’ doing; you, Sam and Dean were left to tend to Gabriel’s wounds. Correction. You were.

“Hey, it’s alright I’m almost done,” you softly spoke; barely audible to anyone else near by. Either the stitches were made of wire or the knife in your hand was too blunt, you slowly but surely cut your way through each one(albeit unsteadily). He flinches, yet still keeps his facade up. You knew that Gabe was in an extremely bad place and you had to be cautious not to alarm or startle him. It was surprising you were able to get this far.

“Mmh,” coming back to reality, you look up to see Gabriel staring right at you, almost in an inquiring manor like he wanted to know what you were thinking of.

“Don’t worry Gabe it’s nothing of importance, really. I just hope that dick gets what he deserves for this shit,” you aggressively say the last few words through gritted teeth. Gabriel once again flinches, yet this time it wasn’t because of the pain, it was because of your tone and menacing facial expression. Seeing this, you stop talking and give Gabe an empathetic smile. You know what pain is like. You’ve been through it. Several times over these past few years.

Cutting the final stitch and wiping of as much blood as you could see, you tentatively run your fingers through Gabe’s straw-like hair. He definitely needs a shower. Getting lost in your thoughts for the second time that day, you miss the look that he gives you with his weary eyes and the way he glances at every perfection and flaw on your face.

“T..thank. yo..u. (Y../n),” Gabe hoarsely whispers. Those two words make you jolt upright and stare right into his golden coloured orbs. This wasn’t going to be something he could recover from any time soon. But he knew that you would be right there with him every step of the way. You would stay side by side and get through all of this. Together.

Me time on quarantine

I finally sat and caught up with Supernatural. I got worse mentally and couldn't get back to it, I remembered that the last episode I watched was S13E17 and today after three days marathon I finished season 14. One or two more days and I'm done with episodes until their hiatus is over.
