T.O Morrow was a much snappier dresser back in the day
Also I love the narrator being like “Yes we know he was dead the last time you saw him, shush” :D

One of the many Spider-women in the Marvel Universe is Anya Corazón aka Araña; her name is kinda dumb, but it's a comic book, the medium that created Dr. T.O. Morrow
Now, here's the problem; according to the Marvel Wiki her name is actually "Aña" with a Ñ; and what the fuck is that? That's not a name, I don't think it's even a word. I assume it's to connect her name to her superhero codename "Araña" literally spider, but it's really really dumb; I wanna know who came up with that and when because this is very stupid, like "Anya" rhymes with "Araña" and it's an actual name people have, not this nonsense

I'm interested in metal men tell me more please
Okay so, basically it's a comic from the 60s which started out trying to teach kids about science (and absolutely NOTHING about the concept of consent holy shit I'll get back to this) and it was about a scientist who made a device called Responsometers which when put in metal would give it personality and shapeshifting properties which resulted in the creation of 6 robots named after the metals.
Gold, Lead, Tin, Iron, Mercury and Platinum. Doc Magnus views them as his kids (although this was after a few years of NO ROBOTS DO NOT HAVE FEELINGS, and every so often DC will regress him which is annoying every time that happens) which is unfortunate because Platinum, the only female robot, decided she was in love with him.
(Actually sometimes all/most of the robots seem to be in love with him, in the 2019 series Iron, Gold and Tin were turning into jealous exes and Mercury has shown signs since the 60s series)
Anyway the issue with Platinum is... she has no concept of consent, she regularly tries to force Will (Doc Magnus) into romantic situations, has tried to murder his female human partners, and the 2007 series even went as far as saying Will was terrified of her. I'm not saying he always responds in the best way or that she doesn't have good moments but most of the time reading their interactions I'm like "this poor man".
Actually my favorite scene relating to this now unfortunately canon ship is the one where he doesn't think robots have birthdays, but she manages to convince him and she's like "oh this is romantic :3c" but he also brings the other robots because it's also their birthday in that case.
Anyway Will is bipolar, and he fits into my type of characters who have had mental illness villain breakdowns, creating an evil robot (at multiple points actually), and one point was convinced he was actually a robot himself. Except he was actually meant to be a robot? and I don't think DC has ever explained how the issues he was a robot in actually happened... He's ALSO the favorite student of other well known roboticist and supervillain T.O Morrow. and I recommend reading 52 for their interactions because the relationship has very Hal/Sinestro vibes.
Best robot is Tin, who is adorable and has a stutter.

"He was evil. But T.O. Morrow is still my father. I will care for him. It is the human thing to do."
Tbh I think you're overestimating the kindness of your average human, Red
Then again, maybe he's not trying to do what most humans would do, but the right thing for a human to do.

What are your thoughts on T.O. Morrow and the rest of Red Tornados mythos?
I love Reddy and his little family, and I wish he was in more things. Traya is a precious little bean.
One thing I'd love to see is to have Tornado interact with Tomorrow Woman as sort of half-siblings - although that's more because Tomorrow Woman is a severely underrated character who needs to show up more often.
Morrow and Ivo are great, love a good mad scientist bad guy, all the weird Silver Age stuff with the Tornado Tyrant is cool although I'm not entirely sold on the work Ostrander did later with tying him into the Swamp Thing/Firestorm elemental mythos. I'm a little lackluster on the other Reds (Inferno, Torpedo, Volcano) but they're alright I guess.
At this point, I'd be happy with any book focusing on Tornado that isn't written by a man named Tom.

Wanted » Maxine Hunkel alias Cyclone
Tumblr media

As a young boy growing up, Thomas Oscar Morrow was fascinated with the Coney Island Justice Society, as many children of the time were. Unusually, he fixation on one of the Society’s lesser known members: The Red Tornado, a rough scrapper in a homemade costume. This Tornado fandom stuck with Morrow into adulthood, and when he went to work designing his Red-series of independent A.I. gynoids, the first one he saw fit to create was of course his very own Red Tornado.
A mysterious legal threat via the Pemberton Foundation, however, would drastically alter Morrow’s research going forward, and his relationship with the heroes of his youth...

Prozac Elimi-Nation
And you thought Thanksgiving with your family was bad. Here’s the “reminder” portion of the “Will Magnus has a real mental illness that really affects him” arc. Ultimate payoff still to come. I really don’t remember Veronica Cale acting...like this in Wonder Woman. I’m assuming some of the difference is down to Morrison doing most of the Science Squad stuff, but it’s only an assumption on my part that they did. IDK, maybe hanging out with Circe just really changed her.
