Note: The original version of this post got messed up in formatting, so I’m trying it again. Sadly, since it was from my inbox and the original letter got erased when I replied, it just isn’t quite the same. I hope this is good enough.
Tumblr media
honestly I think that the screenshots and captions are just as great as fanart, but I can see why you feel that way. I feel like the fandom is less and less involved in the tags/community and all I see on my dash now are the same 4-5 posts thrown around in the higher circle of popular ac blogs.
sorry for ranting like that. bottom line is I do enjoy your content, screenshots are great and your humor is refreshing 💖
All I do is rant, so when I see someone apologize for ranting after only a single paragraph, it really helps clear up the mystery of why my blog never made it into that higher circle of popular ac blogs.
It's long been this blog's policy not to reblog from other blogs, which I'm sure has also hurt me a lot over the years. I've wondered a lot sometimes about how big this could have gotten if I'd managed it differently.
But, of course, it's also been so long that I don't really know anybody else who runs an AC blog anymore. Obviously, people still do it. @mimushima-acnh is one I found a while ago that I follow and really enjoy, for example, and is an extremely pure and good blog that does the same kind of thing I do with less cynicism and meanness. And if you're not following @animalcrossingbirthdayboard, then, well, you certainly should.
Truthfully, I thought at first that @animalcrossingbirthdayboard might be @toysleaf returned to tumblr at first, as a blog run by a trans man who roleplays Digby, but it isn't. At least, I'm pretty sure it isn't. I didn't ask. I wonder a lot what happened to @toysleaf. I miss that guy a lot. I hope he's doing well.
I followed @animalclawsing for a while before I made my post about visiting their dream town, and they reblogged it, and never posted again after that. I feel terrible about that fact. Like it was my post that killed their blog, or something. I certainly hope it wasn't. The joy they showed when posting about their town was so wonderful that I just wanted to be a part of it, but when I look back at my post it feels harsh and mean in ways that I never intended for it to be. If you see this post, @animalclawsing, I'm sorry, and I thought your town was great, and I hope you're still doing creative things out there somewhere.
I just keep running this blog because of sheer momentum, I think. I'm still in touch with a few people from the early days who've moved on from AC. I have, too, but I've also stuck with AC even as I've become an old man who's been spending most of his time these days focused on earning IT certifications for his career or working on his novel. I completed a 60,000-word first draft recently, so I feel like I can say I'm working on it without it being the empty words of every other jerk who says they're working on a book and hasn't actually typed a single page of it. If I ever actually finish the darn thing, which will probably take another two years or so (not joking, sadly), I'll be sure to post a link to where you can buy it. I mean, I'm sure I'll just self-publish it on Amazon for less than a dollar, and either have a discount code or post it for free on Mega somewhere for the dozen or so people who read this blog. It's not going to be a big seller, I'm sure of that. Debut novels from old IT dudes aren't.
And that's how you rant, random anon. You start off in one place and you wander off-topic so many times that it's hard to remember where you started. It's a side effect of my ADHD, probably. I don't take my medication for it on weekends, after all, and today is a Sunday!

I didn’t censor out the Dune words, so I should say that the larger fandom is welcome to read this if it shows up in a search, but I’m here to be a roleplay blog, so please don’t reblog my content!
I thought for sure I already wrote some of this down somewhere as a headcanon! Maybe in the dialogue of an old thread? In a d.iscord conversation? As blorboposting on my personal tumblr?? Anyways, I have thoughts about how Piter’s twisted Mentat training actually works, like what I’m envisioning when I think about his worldview and motivations (& why he’s so deeply and endlessly angry at the Harkonnens and the Great Houses and the Empire). I’m going to put it under a readmore bc I’m looking at abuse & conditioning and torture and all that.
My thinking here is that Piter’s teachers showed him that any terrible thing he might be expected to do to another person is a terrible thing that can, and sometimes will, be inflicted on him first. And they just generally desensitized him to violence and all kinds of things most people flinch at. I can imagine scenarios where he was allowed and even encouraged to befriend people or pets 😬 and then his teachers convinced him to hurt them, or convince them to hurt him, to “protect” him from being swayed in his purpose by the “myth” that friends are reliable or worth investing in. Where most people have to be sort of led or reasoned or provoked into a mindset that will let them kill or harm a living thing, Piter’s training lets him carry that mindset right under the surface, at the ready at all times. I think about Piter’s conditioning like Sid’s toys from T.oy S.tory, taken apart and put back together wrong. If you drop a vase, it shatters randomly, it doesn’t form an image or spell out words. Like, this is clearly damage and trauma, but THIS kind of fucked up doesn’t just happen randomly, you only get this kind of fucked up because someone wanted it that way and made it that way intentionally.
And all of this must have been spaced out across his (however many?) years of schooling, with enough positive experiences in between to keep him from giving up or getting stuck in the trauma for too long. They probably had to hurt a lot of ppl before his time to figure out the optimal balance, and at what life stage to introduce what traumatizing thing 😬 He can be a very sincere, helpful, and hard-working little guy, and he must have had the time and breathing space to come by that honestly. He loves to hear himself talk, and he’s always trying to make jokes, so it’s like. Okay, there was someone around to encourage this at some point in his life, or different people at different times, and he must have been happy while it lasted. I imagine he was also trained thoroughly in mindfulness etc. techniques; not to help him feel good about himself and go through positive personal development, but to give him tools for moving through & processing emotions about hurting other people very quickly so he can be like okay, on to the next thing, the useful tool for the Empire is ready to be useful again. They taught him Evil Mindfulness.
I think the true goal of Piter’s training was to train a person to be willing to show extreme and absurd cruelty and do the Great Houses’ dirty work. Dark stuff that a noble might want done and wouldn’t even be able to convince a lackey to do. Very simple and practical.
I think the stated goal of Piter’s training was to create a *perfectly* rational computer...a *superior* computer, that could break free of the “constraints” of human biology and finally close some of the gaps that arise when you can’t just use a machine. By this logic, a boring, inferior, ordinary Mentat is flawed because they still think, for example, that murder is wrong because an ancient monkey who was their ancestor evolved to feel that way about murder. They didn’t build up that conclusion from pristine logic. There is nothing in heartless, impartial nature that adds a mysterious quality called “wrongness” to murder. So surely a *superior* Mentat would be so impartial that they could make a moment-to-moment assessment of whether murder makes sense for the situation or not. It doesn’t have to be about murder! People get hung up over the murder thing because it’s an easy target and they’re reacting to emotions, they’re listening to that same illogical monkey ancestor that a twisted Mentat gets to be set free from. Funny how even the Empire will call that a twisted Mentat instead of an impartial Mentat tho, yeah... (And then the Harkonnens get to shake the Empire’s hand & put their Mentat in charge of a medieval torture chamber for orphaned puppies, etc. etc.)
So Piter is basically carrying around a permanent victim complex that isn’t right but has a sympathetic edge. If he showed mercy to a victim, it would be a mercy that his teachers and later the Harkonnens would not have shown him, or literally did not show to him (and what makes that victim better than him?). And when people get justifiably furious with him, or sickened by him, for the things he’s done, that’s a self-sustaining mechanism that keeps the gap between him and other people nice and wide. And it would also be a sign of succumbing to ancient monkey feelings and failing in his role as the most perfect and best computer. And where even all of that might fail, there’s always the obscene amount of money he gets paid as the Harkonnen Court Mentat to keep being effective at all of the dark things they ask of him. And where even that isn’t enough, spice is like, the ultimate treatment for trauma. One reason it’s the most valuable thing in the universe is because it’s a true free lunch (as long as you don’t mind being permanently addicted to it if you use it too much).
And Piter’s conditioning is imperfect, of course; it has to be. No one can start with a person who has free will and use conditioning to custom order a monster that has a desired list of deep-set beliefs and motivations. Piter’s behavior pattern will only line up with the most poster-perfect version of a terrible evil twisted Mentat in the context of working for a Great House (that wants him to do terrible evil things). His self-protective impulses, mundane motivations, and set of developmental life experiences are twisted around in just the right way that the impulse to live a happy life that makes sense, like any person wants, can possibly include extreme cruelty to others. The Empire can label that a twisted Mentat and do a lot with that result, but at the end of the day, Piter is still his own person. Thoughts and insights about his own conditioning were surely the foundation for looking for loopholes in Dr. Yueh’s conditioning.

I think the goal of Lolita is to get people to question why they are sympathizing with Humbert Humbert to begin with. NTs are usually aware of what he is saying, not just how he’s saying it. Also, you underestimate ND peoples’ ability to sympathize with shitty people, 40% of tumblr and 80% of 4chan being a good example.
I know that's what people praise about it: That it gets them to sympathize with someone who is actually terrible, and many of them do realize that he is not a good person.
But the thing is that I didn't even sympathize with him despite the fact that my overall ability to sympathize with villainous (or at least morally questionable) characters is not abnormally low by any means.
In fact, I even like to roleplay such characters in games that allow it and think villain protagonists are interesting in general.
Humbert Humbert is just not like that for me. Even if he was not a child molester a lot of his behavior and personality traits come off as pathetic, and his excuses for what he's doing are as pretentious as they are weak. His language does nothing to hide this from me or impress me.
I can like terrible fictional characters, it just takes something with substance for me to do so, not just the way they write (especially when their lies are so obvious to me).

Reminder that there is a separation between content creators' public personas and their real selves (from u/berkeleynoob)
((This is not my post, it is originally from reddit u/berkeleynoob but I got permission to repost as I know a lot of younger Dream SMP fans are on Tumblr and Twitter)) --- This was originally a comment I made on another post, but two people pm-ed me and told me it would be a good standalone post so I decided to expand on it a little. Given the amount of new (young) fans there are, I thought it might be a timely reminder.
The different levels of personas:
I'm using Tommy as an example here because that was what the original post I responded to was about. There are at least three levels to Tommy (and probably most content creators in the DSMP as well). There's c!Tommy, the character he plays on the Dream SMP. Then there's the public TommyInnit profile that he portrays on Youtube and social media (e.g. Twitter). Then there's the real Tommy, who we as the audience obviously aren't privy to see.
I think most fans are fairly clear that c!Tommy is very different from the real Tommy, and criticism/negative comments about the character are very separate from their opinions about the real Tommy. But I've heard less about differentiating Tommy from the TommyInnit persona that he portrays.
Criticism towards the persona vs towards the person:
There's a reason why Tommy starts every Youtube video with a disclaimer about people finding him annoying. The TommyInnit persona is a fairly polarising one, and I too found it somewhat grating when I first watched him. Even now I take my TommyInnit content with breaks because it can be a bit much after a while. But clearly Tommy knows his audience very well and he knows that the TommyInnit persona appeals to a great deal of people, as evidenced by how he's one of the fastest growing Youtube/Twitch creators and his fanbase is huge.
I think it's valid to have criticism for or to dislike the TommyInnit persona. It's not for everyone, and some people probably do find it annoying. But I don't think any of the audience has any basis upon which to judge the real Tommy since we know so little about him. The closest we got was probably the Eboys podcast, in which Tommy impressed me with his maturity and humility for a 16-year-old kid who skyrocketed in fame less than a year. Even when Techno was complaining to Phil (on stream) about how exhausting it was to stream with c!Tommy, he added something like, "and I mean the character Tommy, because believe it or not, Tommy is a entirely different person off-stream". I've heard nothing about great things about how Tommy is off-stream and there's no doubt he's an incredibly hardworking person.
So even though I don't love c!Tommy and the TommyInnit persona can get a bit much for me sometimes, I have nothing but respect for Tommy the person and how much he's achieved.
This goes for just about every content creator out there. Despite how much of their content you may watch and how well you think you know them, that is still their public persona, not who they really are in normal life. It's valid to pass judgement and have criticism for the personas they portray and how they portray it, but it's unfair to use the personas themselves (e.g. "oh Wilbur was mean to Tommy in non-roleplay video", or "Bad swore in this video so he's a hypocrite") to pass judgement on them as people. As fans and audience members, I think we have to accept that we may never really know much about who they are as real people, and that's fine.
The other side: Why being overly attached to the persona is bad
I'm probably older than a lot of the fans here, and I've been in and out of fandom for over 10 years now. I've lived through the terrible days when fandom was all about LiveJournal, ONTD and Tumblr ("I like your shoelaces"). So I know how easy it can be to get sucked into obsessive fandom and become overly attached to actors/singers/content creators. Here's a cautionary tale to show why you shouldn't make the mistake of thinking you know the content creator just because you're a superfan.
I used to be very involved in the Achievement Hunter (a group of Let's Players) community, I watched them since I was in high school and I enjoyed their content a lot. Roleplay wasn't really a thing and they did a lot of behind-the-scenes type of content (e.g. podcasts, recording random shenanigans in the office) that made it feel like I really knew and liked them as people.
One of my favorites was Ryan Haywood. He was a witty, sarcastic guy who was known as the 'madman' and 'evil mastermind' in the video games they played. He was happily married and had two children at home, and for many years I admired his perfect life and how he had gotten to that position: playing video games for a living and enjoying life with his family.
In 2020, it was revealed that Ryan had been having affairs with several female fans. He had messaged many young fans manipulative and explicit messages and even met up and had sexual relations with some of them. Some of the fans who came out and told their stories testified that they were underage when the affair happened, and they felt pressured into having relations with Ryan. There are a lot of other complicated details that I won't go into here. But this news shocked me and many fans to our core. I didn't want to believe it at first. This was so utterly different to the Ryan Haywood I thought I knew and loved.
TL;DR
That was an extreme example but it's a reminder that we are fans and audience members. We don't know the content creators, regardless of how personable they may be or how much of their life they choose to share with us. Especially for younger fans who may be delving headfirst into a fandom for the first time, it's a wild and fun ride and it's easy to get overly attached or obsessed.
Please use this as a reminder to take a step back and remember that there is a very real wall of separation between TommyInnit and Tommy, between Wilbur Soot and Will, between Tubbo and Toby, between any content creator's public persona and their real self. And similarly, there should be separation between what you feel about a content creator's public persona and the content creator themselves. We know their personas, not them. And that's fine.

I’m back!
Tumblr media
So, I kinda quit using this blog a while back. There are some notes about it in my old pinned post and probably on my fanfics, lol, but basically, I felt overwhelmed by fandom and everything going on irl and I crashed. I just withdrew from like, everything. I still logged in on Tumblr but I just liked things to later view them with the boyfriend or laugh at them again myself.
Honestly, it’s not that fun, just doing that, and not really that fair to people who put effort into their posts like art, music, writing, etc., or even just people who are very passionate about a subject and may want it to reach others that are the same. Because I know I’m like that!
But anyway, this is going to be my new pinned post. So! (More under the cut, please keep reading!)
About Me
Tumblr media
You can call me Prowess, I’m a FtM transmasc (he/him please)! I use this space to elevate my personal works, such as art or writing, while also occasionally posting about topics I am passionate about. I realized I was trans in 2020 at the age of 19 years old, in the midst of a pandemic and college fallout, so as you can imagine, I’m still riding the rollercoaster of emotions that come with that. I’m also ADHD... so expect some posts about those sort of things.
But that is hardly the focus! I am big on art and writing. While I am mostly obsessed with Pokemon, I am a lover of stories, and so generally, I love most fiction, even the really bad stuff. Along with my Pokemon stuff, you can expect posts involving ARK: Survival Evolved, The Tales of Miraculous Ladybug & Cat Noir, animated movies (Luca, Toy Story, Spirit - you name it, I probably love it), and plenty of other stuff.
While I have too many older posts to go through and try to sort out the unclean tags, going forward, I am going to use these sort of tags: subject (whatever the post is about, for example, Pokemon), characters depicted, media (whether it’s art, writing, animation, or a mix), and any warnings that may need to go with it (for example, cussing when stronger language is involved, or racism if racism is getting discussed, etc). Memes or one-off posts will likely be tagged with simply “memes.” While this is pretty true for most any blog, this is so you know if you need to block certain tags! For example, if you hate Miraculous Ladybug, you’d just blacklist ‘Miraculous.’
I will also reblog a lot of posts asking for help or boosting awareness. I will try not to inundate the blog with these, but as I will likely have to make a post asking for help at some point myself due to unfortunate irl circumstances, I want to pay it forward in advance. These will be tagged with simply “help needed!”
Below are some projects I’m working on + what you can expect from this blog.
Pokemon Retold
By far, my biggest project to date, is Pokemon Retold.
This is an expansive written anthology of all the pokemon mainline games as far as generation 8. Red, Heart of Gold, Omega Ruby, Platinum, Black, Black 2, Y, Ultra Sun, and Sword are all intended to get rewritten and posted on both my FanFiction.Net and Archive of Our Own accounts. I may also post some chapters here, but I admit Tumblr makes that difficult sometimes.
These stories are very personal to me, as I started writing them when I was struggling in college with undiagnosed ADHD, and felt like my life was falling apart and I was alone. I started writing a retelling of Sword, but the more I wrote, the more disappointed in it I felt, so I started writing Black instead and scrapped Sword altogether.
I’ve had some rough road since, but Black is complete, Black 2 is also complete, and Ultra Sun is (mostly) complete (but with plans to be heavily altered), while Red is underway!
WARNING: These stories can get DARK, and I would rather my readers be over 18. They are not dark with the intent to squick out or upset people, however; they are dark with the intention of exploring thoughts and ideas I find too difficult to think about directly. There are more personalized warnings at the beginnings of each story. With that out of the way, please just try and move on if you find yourself disliking a specific story or part of a story of mine... If you want to give constructive criticism, you are more than welcome, but tearing into me and my writing just because you didn’t like something helps nobody. Keep in mind I write these for fun and as a form of self-therapy throughout some of the worst years of my life.
Furthermore, I edit them a lot. And I do mean a lot. My FFN profile acts as a “changelog” for what has changed in the stories over the course of the time they’ve been posted.
Pokemon Retold posts are tagged “Retold.”
My FFN Profile
My AO3 Profile
Pokemon Retold: Black has been added to TVTropes! I honestly don’t even care that this person digs into it a couple of times, I was so incredibly flattered they took the time to do that at all. (But be warned the page does have some spoilers!) I have no idea if you enjoyed the story or not upon reading over that page, kind stranger lol, but I really appreciate that you took the time to do that nonetheless! <3
Creatively Destructive
This incredibly well-titled story is an idea I have for a retelling of Miraculous Ladybug. I know, I know - absolutely never been done before /s
While I know there has got to be a thousand retellings of this show by now, based on just how.... terrible, the writing is, I want to try anyway. Because I genuinely love the premise of the show! I’m just constantly disappointed by how it seems to never go anywhere with its plot or characters.
So, Creatively Destructive will be a fanfic, and when I have more information on it, I’ll post it under the tag “creatively destructive.”
Roleplays
Me and my boyfriend love to RP a lot. From Monster Hunter to Pokemon, we do a lot of different stories. Sometimes, I really get inspired by what we come up together and I want to share it with others! Be it quick art based on a scene from the RP or a quick rundown of what occurred in an RP, you can catch these in the ‘Prow RP’ tags.
Currently, we are having a lot of fun with an RP based on the Hoenn pokemon games that I am sure I’ll be posting about!
I may also be open to RPs with others in the future :> Don’t be offended that I’m not open to them already... I’m just a very easily overstimulated person.
The Ballad of the ARK
ARK: Survival Evolved is a lot of things. It’s an amazing concept, an open-world game where you befriend dinos and fight alongside tribemates against other tribes, or work together to survive the hostile environment. But the true tragedy of this game goes so much deeper than that, and I want to explore that in writing, starting with my story, my experience, and then graduating to where I think the issue primarily stems from.
This strange memoir will be posted under the tags of “Ballad of ARK.”
Commissions
I hope to take commissions for art and writing in the future!
However, I need to figure out the parameters of what I’m willing to draw (and what I can feasibly draw), as well as what I can promise when it comes to writing, not to mention pricing.
That’s not to say I’m not open to ideas though! Feel free to message me/send me asks anyway and we’ll see if we can work something out. :)
Although I am not in a financial disaster just yet, I feel like I am not far from one. This is why I hope to try to build on commissions in the future. I know they will never support me, but I would still like to try to be useful and helpful to some. I currently live with my grandmother, having left my abusive home with my father, and although she generously allows me to live with her for the low cost of merely helping with some electricity and my own food, I struggle to remain abovewater financially due to difficulty finding work (thanks to issues with ADHD and physical problems following a bout with COVID in early January 2021).
If you would like to help anyway, feel free to subscribe to my Patreon, or make a one-time payment via PayPal. I promise no matter what or how much it is, your generosity is greatly appreciated!! <3

I remember saying that I was going to show how Bones wrote the farewell message from mxbones-critical before it was taken down. I can talk about a lot of the points involving the messages that Bones tries to reinforce, but lemme focus on the last screenshot before I do.
MOD NARRATOR, THE OWNER OF THE BLOG, HAD NO SAY IN THIS POST AND WAS NOT EVEN IN THE GROUP CHAT AT THE TIME OF THIS CONVERSATION. They were added to the group chat after everything had been decided.
Gender - We know Bones is lying about their biological gender. It was not a lie created by the blog.
Oc stealing - Do I even need to talk about this?
Artman - I don’t know whatever drama that was about, so I can’t have a say.
Taizo obsession - Bones was being an asshole about people who were tired about them drawing Taizo so much. There is no issue about an artist drawing a character they enjoy, but when you advertise yourself as being a webcomic artist and pride yourself on drawing that webcomic, especially if you have a known following, people are going to want to see progress on the comic and see their favorite characters.
Ghost possession -  DnD roleplay was NO WAY involved in an argument. Why would you even say that it was DnD out of context when evidence of them pretending to be possessed is literally right here
Hypersexual - Being hypersexual is perfectly fine, but Bones DOES draw a lot of nsfw of their characters when there shouldn’t be. Robot taizo is a good example of this.
Jere and Vic (both points) - About the kiss ups part—I can’t speak for Jere, but Vic very much was. Vic wanted to please Bones for some unknown reason. Vic was the one responsible for the post deletion, regardless of what Bones and Vic say. Tumblr DOES NOT wipe blogs of content. If they deem a blog going against their TOS, it’s terminated and deleted completely
the mods are terrible - that sure goes against everything Bones did to mod narrator and attempting to gaslight and manipulate them and degrade them for their age.

Random question time! What inspired u to start rping Dan? ^__^
That’s quite a big question actually, the short answer is just one day I stumbled across people roleplaying on here and having fun. I kinda wanted to be involved and threw my hat in the ring, it was the Sonic RPC that mostly took me on so I sorta just remained in the fold.
But there is a bigger answer to really explain it so if you or others are interested on my thoughts as to how and why Dan came a thing and led to this, then read on.
Now yes I had Dan created for quite some time before I got onto tumblr to begin with but I’d never created him for the sake of roleplay itself, originally he was created more as a means to explore things in my own mind, I enjoy the depths of morality and what that really means. At the time I was really into demons but I found it funny they were usually always depicted as soulless evil so I looked further into things and questions rose if it were possible these representations were solely the case because of a manner of expectation that we usually throw into place. Nearly everything in media classified as ‘Dark’ is evil, but why? I’m going off topic a little here but here’s to give an idea of what I was thinking like. For example in LOTR there’s purely good and evil sides, but those who were once good and turned evil including those turned through no choice of their own were to be treated as cruelly as the genuine article. Such as the Nine Men (The Ringwraiths) twisted by Sauron via the corruption/control of the One Ring, They weren’t inherently evil until their souls were corrupted and while they did commit terrible and evil acts for their new master it wasn’t exactly by their choice (Yes I know in LOTR its more that Man’s greed is what causes them to fall but those original rings given to the kings they were fooled by Sauron in the first place and didn’t know what was about to happen until it was too late, it wasn’t a case of giving into temptation, they were just cursed practically.) Sauron did that to them, dooming them and yet there is no redemption for them in the eyes of the divine or the good side in general. On the other side of the coin, we have Orcs, otherwise brutal and barbaric species and yet by the same law, they technically don’t get born or created to serve Morgoth/Sauron or be evil, so to some degree there is a possibility that ‘good’ Orcs exist, but we never encounter them in stories due to them either being weeded out and killed or even being slain by the ‘good’ factions believing they are hostile under the premise of the usual ‘Foul Orcs’ and etc, either way they are doomed to be so cursed by all sides purely for how they were made?
Some people in things are naturally chaotic, so I don’t think its impossible to have the exceptions to the rule in other stories too. A ‘good’ character can still act as evil and vice versa. I know this seems out of the topic but this is the kind of stuff that made me create and think of Dan.
What does a potentially ‘evil’ species do when naturally they’re not? How does it subvert expectations in general, how would people react on both sides? how would the odd one think? and so on. So I made Dan with the intention of finding my own answer, its why I made him to be able to interact with pretty much anyone and anything, because to me its interesting to see how people/characters react, be they better or worse.
So after seeing those people roleplaying on here, I made an account and threw Dan at people, hoping to try and get things started. Things were slow and they make sense why now. I had no real idea how to RP so naturally people were more thrown off, the blog wasn’t organised and there was practically little to no information, not to mention the fact he was pretty darn OP. I had created Dan solely to explore the morals and mental aspects, I hadn’t thought of the character himself originally. So after watching others and listening to those who actually did give me a chance, I took a step back and worked on my own little universe. Its not like its a master work but I do think it makes enough sense to why Dan is the way he is and how he can crossover into nearly any universe while simultaneously building his character/personality further overtime to encounters he has with people. It thanks to all of those who previously played with me he’s turned out the way he is now.
Now, Its hard to stay away fully honestly, always stalking to see what’s happening and such. I love seeing what people come up with and if there’s chances for some fun with Dan, even better!
Sorry for going on and on, but to understand the inspiration and my original aims, you kinda have to know all that stuff.

Character Introduction - Meww Hatsune
--Edits/Updates-- --Edited 8/30/21-- Organized body type information into a list rather than a paragraph.
Hello first post here, maybe I’ll try and setup a format or whatever, but I’ll just go with the flow for now. This very first post will be of my Main and very first OC, Meww Hatsune.
--Origin and Inspirations-- Her origins are quite fuzzy a bit as she is by far my oldest character. She originated as either a character concept to either represent myself online and in games, or as a DND character. She was most definitely used as both and for an extremely long time. Of course character development happens over time and isn’t all at once, it’s just a question of when a solid basis was made for her.
Her name is a bit easier to talk about, while my memory is terrible I can at least probably pull a few references I came across that inspired it. One of the main sources of inspiration was Nyu from the anime Elfen Lied. Unfortunately am currently failing to recall other name inspirations, I can recall having around 3 and yet am missing the others. If I can I will edit this post to update this part, if not I will just make a new post later on adding on information.
As far as inspirations for appearance, characters like Lucy and Nyu from Elfen Lied, Zoey from Tokyo Mew Mew and Yuno Gasai from Mirai Nikki. Main inspiration from these characters is her pink hair and eyes. Skin tone and clothing preferences are based on myself and my own preferences.
Inspirations for her personality while partly coming from characters like Yuno Gasai, a majority of it is just something I was taught about when making characters for the first time for a DND campaign. Which was basically to take a personality trait from yourself and just exaggerate it. And essentially it would be close enough to yourself so it would be easy to roleplay while also not being a complete self-insert.
--Appearance-- As for her appearance, she is shown in my tumblr profile image on the left. Going into more detail I will break it up between her physical appearance and her fashion choices.
-Body Type: -Race: Human (Most Commonly), Half-Demon, Demon -Ethnicity: American (Most commonly) -Sex/Gender: Cis Female -Romantic/Sexual Interests: ♥ Girls ♥ Girls ♥ Girls ♥ (Self-claimed “Super Gay”) -Height: ~5ft 2in -Weight: ~100-110lbs -Physique: Lean musculature (Very fit and active) -Skin Tone: Pale White -Hair: Short, soft, messy/wild Pink hair (Varies between pale pink[255,170,255], neon pink[255,0,255], dark reddish pink[120,0,70] and dark pink[180,50,180]). Eyebrows are neat and moderately thin, usually matching the color of her hair. -Eyes: Tend to be sharp and intimidating. Color usually a bright, near glowing, neon pink. -Age: Typically a young teen to adult, roughly in the range of 16 to 21. -Other: Teeth vary between normal human teeth, adding a fang(s), or razor teeth similar to Soul Eater from the anime Soul Eater.
-Clothing Fashion: For fashion, she typically wears a zip up hoodie, cargo pants, combat boots, and a plain black t-shirt. For some extra details she likes chains, belts, buckles and zippers. Most prominently everything she wears is black, if there is any additional color to her outfit it would be pink as a trim highlight or supplementary color (typically a bright or pale pink). Jewelry isn’t very interesting to Meww, however she sometimes has earrings and is more recently depicted with a ring on her left ring finger and will almost always have it from here on.
--Personality-- She is a rash energetic girl. Hyperactive and proactive, likes to do everything herself. Willing to help anyone she gets along with, willing to take on projects or jobs from others as she likes to just do things herself especially when it comes to fighting. Of course things vary based on the kind of world she is in, in a more fantasy setting she’s typically a fighter/adventurer while in a more “realistic” or modern world, she’s really into athletic fields (commonly things like kendo and track), though combat isn’t out of the question, again depending on the world setting. She has the mindset of a rebel and likes to do things her own way rather than taking orders from another person, though not completely disobedient to anyone, and is not entirely against working with others. She just has a tendancy to lead or go alone on things. She is headstrong, confident, positive, a hard worker, supportive, loving, caring, fierce, aggressive and reckless. Of course she is not without her negative qualities too, some of which have been already named such as reckless and her confidence can be overbearing to outright unreasonable and annoying, and at times even worse. While she is a caring and loving person, she can also be really cruel, uncaring, cold and even sometimes sadistic and heinous. Of course interactions depend highly on the person or situation theyre involved with. As for some more negative qualities, she is very apprehensive and more likely to act negatively towards males than she is females. This as such also affects her romantic interest in people as well, making her solidly a lesbian and having no interest in guys in the least. She’s even hesitant to make friends with the opposite gender and acts very standoff-ish with them (this dislike of males can even be seen with other species such as animals as well). As for females she really loves girls, she loves how they’re all so pretty, beautiful, kind and finds them all amazing. Which kind of skews her views on right and wrong with it. She is way more forgiving to a female who does questionable things and is willing to forgive them or make excuses for their actions. Whereas males she almost is ready to condecend them and look down on them as if they are a bad person before even knowing anything of them. As far as children go she is conflicted on them. She tends to dislike children as well, but can also show kindness and caring towards them. As far as the world around her, she absolutely loves nature and flora. She enjoys fauna too, but not nearly as much, and as far as certain types of fauna, she actually dislikes for example, reptiles and insects. For time of day she loves the night and when its darker out, enjoying gloomy weather as well, such as rain and overcast. She has a neutral feeling towards storms, not particularly enjoying lightning or thunder, but is not disturbed by it. She loves nature to the point of even happy to sleep outside, usually in high places such as in a tree or on a roof. She absolutely loves the snow and snowy regions thus making her favorite season by a landslide, winter.
--Other Information-- Here is where I will put other information that I didn’t feel belonging to any of the previous groups of information, and nor do I believe I could write a whole section on it by itself.
-Relatives: Miku Hatsune (Mother; Yes, the Vocaloid), Teto Kasane (Mother; Yes, the Utauloid), Sylvia Hatsune (Wife), Miku Hatsune (Daughter; Named after her grandmother), Chloe Hatsune (Daughter)
-Allies: Sarah Alice (Close Friend; Soul Twin)
-Likes: Girls, Love, Fighting, Adventuring, Witchcraft, Tea, Cats, Sky, Puns, Sarcasm
-Dislikes: Guys, Not doing anything/Waiting
Fighting Style/Powers: She highly enjoyed close-ranged combat, primarily using her bare hands for hand-to-hand combat, a scythe, a spear, or a one-handed sword with an empty off-hand (rapiers are a particular favorite type of swords she prefers). As far as ranged combat goes, she enjoys and prefers bows, pistols and sniper rifles. As far as magic she uses it slightly more often than ranged weaponry. Prefering the elements of Dark and Ice, while next most commonly used would be fire. Other kinds of magic she has been depicted with is the ability to manipulate blood (while not inspired from, but was rienforced with/from Mirai Kuriyama from Beyond the Boundary) and telekinesis. She thrives on and is extremely fast, being usually one of the fastest people in her world. This also gives her a fairly strong reaction time as well. She sometimes is depicted as fairly strong physically as well, though not usually too far off from average in the world she is in. As far as style, she enjoys and tends to go along with more flair and aesthetic choices in her fighting, sometimes at the cost of efficiency. For strategy she tends to forsake it, while she is fairly intelligent and has the capability to be quite strategic, she tends to more commonly rely on raw emotion and instinct instead resulting in a more feral and sometimes beastial fighting style. As she can be reckless, she is highly aggressive and does not tend to protect herself, sometimes even getting hurt unnecissarily. As she really loves the sky she often dreams of flying, so she usually finds some  way to do so.
Possible Quotes: -”I love you.” -”Fight me!” -”Oh no~ how awful.” -“But why?” -”Meow.”

~hello~ !! For the meta asks!: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, and 25 :))
Hello!! Thank you for sending these; I was really excited to see that ask game and I was hoping somebody would send some in. It still took me a while to actually answer them though, and for that I apologise. But without further ado! Some meta answers (under the cut because they ended up being fairly long, whoops):
3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (Consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway.)
I thought of a few examples, but they could basically be grouped together under a common theme: whumpy/angsty scenes that were self-indulgent as all heck. The whole self-indulgent aspect often required the characters to be just the teeniest, tiniest bit OOC and/or necessitated rather unrealistic plot circumstances. So it was simply easier to keep such scenes as maladaptive daydreams, rather than trying to think of explanations for the character/plot issues…or exposing myself to judgement for them LOL.
Receiving permission to write/share one such scene anyway is an opportunity I can’t let slip by though. It might be because I’m writing this while running on zero (0) hours of sleep—let’s hear it for insomnia, y’all!—but I suddenly couldn’t remember any of my newer ideas under this category. However, I did recall a one-shot I had started writing a couple of months ago that sort of counts? “Sort of” because I could actually be arsed to write it since I was, ya know, writing it. Only got about six hundred words down though.
…should I share those six hundred words…?
………nahhh. I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet.
But here’s the gist of it: Coulson and May (because of course it’s Philinda) were married for quite some time before the Attack on New York. But then Coulson DiedTM and then got ResurrectedTM. But gasp of horror, he had to lose his memories of his romantic relationship with May because reasons. (I actually did have some ideas for those reasons but sshhhh this is about me yeeting context and setup.)
The first half of S1 still happens as normal (except MayWard doesn’t happen because??? Vows) and it’s now post-E20 “Nothing Personal”. The morning after (or a morning soon after, whatever) the T.A.H.I.T.I. reveal! May’s mom—who doesn’t know about GH.325 and whom May fed a cover story about Coulson divorcing her or something equally as oof, IDK—shows up at the hotel and starts ripping into Coulson for breaking her daughter’s heart, then dragging her back into the field with her ex-husband (him), then accusing her of terrible things and forcing her away again.
Poor guy’s confused as heck, and so is the team, and soon enough so is Lian. The only one who understands what’s going on is May, and she’s freaking dying off to the side like why is this happening to me and eventually everybody’s like! Explain??? (Was thinking about including something from Coulson like, “Are you still keeping things from me?” Just for that extra smidge of angst, yay!)
So yeah then May gives a, like, two-sentence debriefing that elicits more questions than answers. Coulson decides to take May aside and they have a heart-to-heart. Lots of feelings and angst and hurt/comfort and at some point plenty of kissing too. Just! May hiding her feelings for Coulson’s sake but really magnified, plus some actual apologies and consideration of the grief May’s been through on Coulson’s part.
And uhh yeah that’s basically it I dunno hdsjncjshd. I warned y’all it’s OOC, plot-bendy, and very self-indulgent!
6. What character do you have the most fun writing?
I don’t think I could name a single character for this. I get different things out of taking on different voices, you know? I guess recently I’ve found myself gravitating towards more taciturn and introspective points of view, like JQ from my original novel Rosewood or M. Yisbon from my…other original novel Temple.
Generally, however, I like tackling stories from an outsider’s perspective. That’s why I so rarely write my more “substantial” (serious? demanding? for lack of better words?) projects from the PoV of my “preferred” character. This usually means writing from their love interest’s perspective, but not always. With shorter fanfic, using a more removed/unconventional/niche PoV can be really fun. Like, I once wrote a canon compliant ficlet purely(-ish) about Philinda from Tony Stark’s perspective. That isn’t always sustainable with stories that demand more character development or closer character studies, however, which is why it’s a good thing I like writing drabbles!
9. Are you more of a drabble or a longfic kind of writer? Pantser or plotter? Do you wish you were the other?
My word counts tend to run long, but I usually only write one-shots for fanfic. If I’m even inspired with a novella- or novel-length story idea for a fandom, you already know I’m in deep with them. And if I actually find the motivation to plan and execute that idea? Dangg. That’s only ever happened…twice, maybe thrice, and I’m in a lot of fandoms.
At times, I wish I could go for more of a middle ground ’cause, like, you know what I love to see? An AO3 dashboard with several completed novellas for my ship/character of choice. I mean yes, I hecking love >90k fics, but sometimes I’m in the mood for quick reads…and what am I supposed to do when I burn through all the drabbles and 2k one-shots? (Besides despair and/or reread my faves desperately.) Novellas are basically always safe for me LOL, and I’d hope to be able to give as much as I take.
Ultimately though, I think I’m okay with where I am with regards to that. I wish I could write more in general, but I’d be okay with “writing more” just meaning “writing more one-shots”, ya know? More than okay, really. I have mad respect for fic writers who have, like, a hundred or more one-shots under their belt for this one ship. The fandom ecosystem would be incomplete without them (as well as every other type of writer, but sshhh that’s the type of writer I’m closest to being right now).
I’m definitely a plotter, and I definitely prefer it that way. It’s cool having such a detailed record of my process. I like feeling like a frazzled genius on the brink of a major discovery with all of my different outlines and colour coding and many drafts and various websites.
12. Do you want your writing to be famous?
Not exactly. It might be cool if my original works were recognisable in the world, but I don’t think I’d want to be recognisable. As for fanfic, I’d low-key enjoy gaining a place in that fandom’s community as a fic writer. Like someone who gave and got fic gifts from fic writer friends, who participated in challenges and GCs, who received writing prompts on Tumblr, whose name was known for doing a certain trope/genre a bunch of times… Ya know what I mean?
Unlikely to happen when I’m so hecking hesitant to publicly (i.e., outside of AO3) claim credit for my writing, but fjnskfsjhfjs. A writer can dream, right?
15. Which is harder: titles or summaries (or tags)?
Of those three, tags are the easiest for me, for I have a reliable system for figuring out those.
Next easiest would probably be titles. For fanfiction, I like to use titles that are a quote from the source material. You should have seen all of my old Hamilton fanfic… I was really proud of some of those titles. And I don’t mean, like, whole lines—usually only two to five words. It’s a unique type of wordplay that I just love dabbling in.
And lastly, summaries. Sometimes inspiration strikes me and a snappy and intriguing synopsis just jumps out—one that I’m quietly pleased with—but most of the time I’ll spend way too long trying to think of such a synopsis and eventually just go with whatever I’d come up with so far. And live with my quiet dissatisfaction for the rest of time.
18. Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (Plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations...?) Tell us about them!
Typically, no. If I have deleted scenes, I save and publish them separately, but that’s about it. I sometimes think of AUs for my own work and might talk about them in my author’s notes—might even talk about writing them—but I never really do anything with them.
Although…
It’s not uncommon for me to decide a plotline isn’t working for a certain story or to think of an interesting but undoable arc for a certain character, but what I’ll do is make a whole new story for those ideas. Once I’m done developing the original idea and the branched-off one, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell they grew from the same roots. Does that count?
21. What other medium do you think your story would work well as (film, webcomic, animated series, etc.)?
That depends on the story. I’ve actually written stories in other mediums—movie screenplay, musical stageplay, poetry, TV show scripts, play scripts, roleplay—but the novel does tend to be my comfort zone. Sometimes, if I have an idea that I think could work, or would even work better, as another medium, I’ll label it as such in my folder of ideas and decide not to write it as a novel.
Most of the time, my non-book projects are collaborations. I’m working with five different people on six different story ideas: two webcomics, one stage musical, one anime, and two animated TV shows. Little concrete progress has been made in any of those, mind you, but they’re still fun to discuss!
24. Would you say your writing has changed over time?
Absolutely. But I’ve been writing stories since I was five years old, so we would hope so, huh?
I wouldn’t say my writing’s changed completely, though maybe that’s just my insider’s perspective.
25. What part of writing is the most fun?
Oh gosh, I can’t believe you’d make me choose. Writing is just such a wonderful experience for me; I love just about everything to do with it. Admittedly, not all the time, but. Since that barely qualifies as an answer, however, I’ll give you this—
The endings. Not only that intense feeling of rightness when you wrap up that last sentence, but also the moments before. The adrenaline of knowing you’re almost there but you gotta push just a bit more to actually get there. And also the part right after—the real wrap-up, honestly: the revision and the editing. Heavens, I love revising and editing my work.
Which is not to say I don’t like writing it out for the first time, too—there’s nothing quite like seeing your cursor scroll to the next page, like going from a blank expanse to a Oh man, how many more lines are even going to fit on this page?, like watching that page counter tick up another number. However, there’s something cathartic about finally ironing out those problems I had to force myself to stop worrying about earlier because “just finish the first draft dangit”.
I guess that’s not really the end of the writing process, but whatever. Close enough (as fic writers are wont to say).
Another thank-you for these asks, and feel free to come back with more at any time! ;P
Send in fun meta asks for your friendly neighbourhood writer!

Stranger Than Fanfiction: Ch 3
Tumblr media
Series Masterlist
Pairing: Dean x Reader Warnings: Meta baby. Pure meta. Word count: 2,100. Chapter Summary: Your google search turns up something unexpected. A/N: No author in this one for... reasons. Also this one is kind of short and lame. A means to an end if you will, but trust me, Ch 4 is a doozy. P.S it’s nearly 3am so Chapter 4 will be up when I wake up, ya dig.
Ao3 if you prefer
Tumblr media
It’s almost funny how dramatic the voice in your head wants to be about those suited criminals and yet it doesn’t care to elaborate on anything important. Like, say, your imminent death. The mention of it was so casual, calm, but a couple of weirdos want to pretend to be insurance adjusters and suddenly it’s all pretty prose and run-on sentences. Flowery language about broad-shouldered men in roaring muscle cars that are going to change your life. She’d kept going while you’d interviewed Maggie Hall. She’d harped on and on about how you couldn’t stop thinking about them.
Of course, you couldn’t stop thinking about them, she wouldn’t shut up about them.
After an entire monologue about the way the paper felt in your hands and could never be replaced by computers—purists are the worst—you finally get to leave. That's when you get some respite. You’re walking out into the late afternoon sun and thanking Maggie for her time and it's bliss. Maggie's story sounds a little off, after years doing this you have this gut instinct for when you should investigate further. Funnily enough, you have drama in your life that you’ll submit a valid claim anyway. Just so you can get this cursed case out of your hair. You might even hurry it through the system before the thing has the chance to kill you.
You’re still not sure how a case could kill you. You’re a pencil pusher at best and the interview with Maggie is an excellent example of the majority of your fieldwork, obviously excluding the criminals at the start. Unless your demise is death by papercut.
For now, you’ve given up trying to fathom out the voice you’re hearing, especially since she's chosen to once again go radio silent. If she won’t say anything useful, like say how not to die, then you were going to have to figure out how to skip ahead on your own. Since she kept talking about the imposters you’d met that day, they seemed to be an excellent place to start.
CNK 80Q3. Ohio plates. That's as much as you know without google.
That evening you set yourself up in the same way you would to work from home. There's a desk in the corner of your dining room with a chair that offers enough lumbar support for the longest of research sessions. Although it’s your personal laptop and there’s not normally a large glass of wine sitting next to you when work.
After it powers on you’re assaulted by the usual pop-ups; windows you forgot to close last time and your emails. Procrastinating is not a new routine, and you’re on a mission, so they all get minimized instead of closed completely. Then you open a new browser window and a stark google homepage stares back at you. A hopeful new beginning.
CNK 80Q3. You’re genuinely surprised that she hasn’t started talking again to describe the change in the air as you type in the plate number. Or some drivel about the way your fingers emphasize each letter and number. It’s all there happening anyway, making the moment foreboding, but your narrator doesn’t seem care.
The first row of results are images. Weirdly its images of the license plate itself. That doesn't strike you as odd at first glance and then you think about it a little more. Why are there so many pictures of this particular license plate? Who is running around taking these pictures? You're pretty sure if you typed in your own plate number there would be no pictures of it. And then you see some shopping results where you can actually buy the plate. While the online shops might explain the images, it only really poses more questions. Why are so many people buying that license plate? What’s so special about it?
You take a sip of your wine before you scroll further, savoring the taste as well as the way it relaxes your shoulders. You don't own any 'fun' novelty coasters that say it but you're inclined to agree with the statement you've heard before. Wine really does make everything better.
You’re not yet into the murky depths of page 2 but you’re far enough down the page now to make it past the sponsored results. These links come thick and fast from websites that all seem to have one word in common. Supernatural.
Then you see your salvation. A page called Supernaturalwiki—the link is simply titled: Impala—and you stop scrolling, a grateful sound slipping past your lips as you do. Wiki, you know that word. Like Wikipedia. Wikipedia has references and moderators', clear and concise explanations. This was the easy way out you were looking for.
That’s what you hope as you click on the link anyway. Your naivety lasts all of twenty seconds before the page loads. With its stock image of a 1967 Chevrolet Impala, and a quote about it being the most important object in the universe.
Or it's the most important object in some books at least.
Further clicking and longer sips of wine reveal it’s a series of books called Supernatural—with the title of the wiki you should have seen that coming. These were story after story of ghosts and demons and angels? There are pages that describe monsters, urban legends, and two men. Sam and Dean Winchester. They each have dedicated pages with their whole lives mapped out.
Sam and Dean are fictional brothers and apparently the heroes. Each of their respective profiles begins with an illustrated image from book covers, and then a series of quotes that contradict those pictures. Then their lives are intricately detailed, or should you say they are chronologically recorded according to each book. You would read their histories in full if it wasn't for how tiny the scroll bar is, indicating that these profile pages are ridiculously long.
You sit back in your chair and take a deep breath in the hopes of it being soothing. Or answering all your questions. It does neither. You have no answers and more stress.
This went beyond two men pretending to do your job now. Those guys were driving around in a car with fictional license plates. What was this? Some weirdly immersive cosplay? Was that something Sam and Dean did in the books?
Even so, those two guys weren’t roleplaying at comic con, they were actually in that woman's home. If you hadn't arrived they could have done anything. They could be doing anything now.
There's a ding from the kitchen which means the frozen meal you’d thrown in the oven is ready. Not that you stop thinking about this while you go and grab it because the more you think the less sense everything makes. Like why is a narrator who, until now, was obsessed with those guys, so very silent all of a sudden?
Back at your desk with hot food, you head back to google to see if you can buy these books anywhere because knowledge is power. Unfortunately, not even Amazon has copies. It’s only when you add the term “ebook” to your search do you find a Tumblr blog with links to download all the files, split into two categories. Published and unpublished. There are a lot of Supernatural books and from the looks of it there’s an equal amount of drama over how the unpublished ones got out.
You start downloading them without consciously making a decision to read them. Downloading kind of happens because your macaroni cheese is too hot for your mouth to handle yet, and your hands still need something to do. Besides you didn’t necessarily need to read all of them, if they were truly terrible you’d delete the files. No harm, no foul. But if this was the only way to get answers then you and your kindle were going to be pretty busy this weekend.
Tumblr media
“Morning Laura.” Nobody likes Mondays, yet you have a little bounce in your step having made your usual green tea, got dressed, and driven to work in complete and utter silence. In fact, you’d heard nothing all weekend. The caveat was that, yes, you’d spent all weekend reading those books.
You liked reading and without discrimination. Trashy romance novels at the airport? You betcha. Fantasy books thicker than your mattress? Sure thing, order a pizza. But a mystery? Well, those were your favorite. Of course, the detective needed some sort of sketchy backstory and there had to be a fishy amount of red herrings. Most importantly there had to be something to solve. It was an elevation of your day to day life and you always get sucked in. In your job, you try to solve the most benign mysteries; people faking insurance claims. More often than not there isn’t even a mystery to solve, someone really did slip and break something. So, a mystery that grabs you out of nowhere is like a promotion for you, a challenge.
That had been how those Supernatural books had dragged you in. Ghosts and ghouls you could take or leave, you might have stopped reading if that’s all there was. Then this Carver Edlund went and put in that damn side plot about their missing father. It was too enticing, addicting. From the cryptic disappearance to the indecipherable journal of clues. John Winchester would be the death of you.
Or case 24-01 would be. The jury was still out on that.
And now it’s Monday. You’ve heard nothing more from the voice in your head—it may have been a low-level case of carbon monoxide poisoning—and the boys are so close to figuring everything out you can taste it. Technically they know John is alive by now, you finished Shadow some point yesterday afternoon and felt yourself choke up at the emotional goodbye with a father they just got back. But they still have no clue what he's up to, which is a hideous funhouse mirror reflection of your own life. Hopefully, by the time they figure out John’s game plan, you'll have your life figured out too. And fingers crossed figuring everything out will involve staying alive as well.
“You look like you’re feeling better this morning.” Laura is her perky self, always a little too happy for this side of 9am.
Oh right, you went home sick on Friday. You should remember things like that. “I think it was a bug or something I ate maybe.”
“Sure, sure. One of those convenient Friday bugs.” She winks at you.
If she accused you of that say, last week, you’d have laughed it off given that's a thing everyone has in common; trying to skip out on work. So, that's what you try to do this side of the weekend. You push out something that hopefully resembles a regular person's laugh like you’re in on the joke. You have to fake it because you’re still thinking about Providence. The book you’d finished that morning instead of watching the news. You’re still wondering if Sam is starting to move on after Jessica.
Needless to say, you understand now. The many fan blogs and the artwork you’d glanced at before you started reading. All those things that you’d disregarded as an unhealthy fascination for a bunch of books. Now you’re one of them, obsessed. Walking into the office with your kindle tucked in your bag and Salvation just begging to be read.
This goes beyond finding John. That plot got its hooks in you but you’ve known John was alive since Home and you’re still reading. You could also blame this on your general love of reading except it goes beyond that too. Honestly, it’s hard to pick one thing. They’re really great books. Sam and Dean have such turbulent lives but they still have each other. They’re snarky, lost, angry, and caring. They’re both so different but the sibling relationship is so real. And the stories go beyond a new monster every book, there are these huge interesting story arcs that you couldn't stop reading if you tried. John Winchester had been the first example of these addictive plot points, but not the only one.
“Y/N?”
You snap your head up, “sorry, sorry.”
“I was only saying you’re going to be here all day then, lunch?”
Even though Laura must see the decision on your face she still pretends to hope until you start speaking. “Actually I have a lot to catch up on so I’ll probably be working through. Tomorrow?”
She smiles brightly and nods, “sure thing.”
As bad as you feel about lying to Laura she has presented you an opportunity. Everyone thinks you were sick on Friday. They even think you're behind on your work and they don’t know you’ve already conducted the initial interview. Which makes your decision to sit at your desk and prop your kindle up next to your screen even easier. Nobody would notice the difference between you concentrating or reading. If you skip lunch you might be able to get to Bloodlust out of the way too.

How does this even work...
Okay, so I’ve been on tumblr since before the first time they very slightly changed the shade of blue and I hope that in and of itself is enough to help y’all know... I’m ancient. (I’m 27, and will only rp with ppl 18+, sorry friendos)
Somehow, despite being on tumblr and despite having made about a million accounts for various things in my day, I’ve not made an RP account, and don’t really know how to get started. I guess I’m just gonna put down what I know about myself and what I’m looking for here and hope for the best, but I’d be open to any kind of protips from those of you who have been using tumblr to find rp for much longer.
RIP to your eyes ahead of time, this is a long post. If you want to skip to the part where I share my Original plots, pairings, and fandom cravings, please just scroll to the end and accept my humble apologies. (Highkey I copied this out of my google doc, don’t shoot me.)
I enjoy writing both original plots and fandom stuff. When RPing within a fandom setting, I'm open to playing as canons, as ocs, or any combination of both. I'm open to co-creating settings inspired but not based in fandoms, and open to playing AU or canon settings as well. When originals are involved, I prefer co-creating our worlds together, so we're both invested in the landscape that our characters inhabit. Speaking of characters- I'll play as any gender and in any pairing type- I hope that this is the same for you. I love writing a broad spectrum of characters to keep things interesting for myself and to practice viewing the world through different perspectives. I feel it's difficult to do this when being forced or pigeonholed into writing as a gender you DEMAND of me. However... I can be flexible, and if your ideas are interesting enough, I may just give you what you ask for anyways, haha. I'm perfectly open to playing multiple characters, whether it's a broad interactive cast of mains and background characters, a system of noninteracting or separate sets of doubles, triples, you name it, or whatever other configuration of multiple-character-playing you prefer.
I'm not too terribly concerned about post lengths and am open to writing with people who might be new to the RP scene. I'm pretty flexible about how much I'll write. A good rule of thumb for myself is that I tend to respond with more when I have more to work with. That doesn't always mean that there are more words on your post for me to respond to; instead, I mean that if your post has enough ideas, inspiration, and momentum, I can go buckwild with my posts. My comfort zone seems to be around 4-6 paragraphs per post, but I've been known to write either a lot more in particularly thrilling rps. If I'm writing a huge post- don't feel daunted or expected to match length. I love all sized posts!!! I'm just overly enthusiastic and get carried away sometimes. (This means you can also at any time tell me to chill out on how much I'm writing. ) When it comes to writing style, I only have a few hard expectations of you- I do not engage in roleplay featuring the 'would' style of writing. (For example: "She would pick up the rock and inspect it closely.") I don't exactly know why I dislike this tense so much, but it pulls me right out of the immersion of writing/reading and tends to entirely destroy my interest in the story. I'm sorry. Next, I care at least a little about punctuation and spellchecking. If you're roleplaying online, you have access to ways to make sure that you're not just submitting gibberish. If you need help finding those resources... feel free to ask!
I'm open to the idea of making profiles for our characters, but I'm okay without making them too. I'm also vaguely ambivalent to 'beautifying' our posts, should we do them somewhere that allows that sort of thing. I'm fine with any style of reference images, or with not using them at all. I can't promise I won't send you songs and images and memes that remind me of our story, though! Also- I'm super down for dice systems if we decide to go that route (and prefer dice systems if we include combat of any variety in our story.) I love romance, but it doesn't necessarily have to be the drive of our plot if that's not your style. My favorite genres to write in are science fiction, any variety of fantasy, horror, drama, historical settings, wild western settings, and mysteries.
Last but not least, I tend to like making friends with my writing partners. I prefer writing with people I actually get along with, so for me, the plotting phase is the most important. It helps me get to know your personality a bit more, and you mine, so we both know whether or not it's a good match to write long term! I'll write on most platforms, so let's discuss what makes the most sense for us. Finally, I generally only write with folks 18+, for the safety of everyone involved. Thanks for understanding.
Well, as I said, I've got a big ol list of ideas, if any of this strikes you as 'good writing friend' material, so send me a DM and I'll get back to you asap! Feel free to share your ideas too!!!
Original Ideas
- There's something dire down in the mines to the east of this old Western town. Folks keep goin' in to investigate, disappearin' for days at a time, then comin' back all different-like with the lights gone from their eyes. What could be happenin' out there, sheriff? (horror/western)
- A high-fantasy world's balance is shattered when the source of magic is destroyed. How will the people of this mystical land navigate a now mundane life, and how can they survive when so many magical devices go defunct and awry?
- A no-magic world is suddenly spun into chaos: an apocalyptic event leads to the sudden introduction of magic into a world that had previously never known it. In the post-apocalyptic (and mystically-charged) ashes of a world that once was, how do the survivors compete for resources and control?
- A star falls from the sky! They're rare, and it's dangerous to be one. Are you the star, hunted and lost? Or are you someone who finds a star?
- A lich (my character) is rumored to live in the castle at the foot of the mountains, only a mile or so from your town. It's said they're a true villain, the worst of the worst... but what is the truth?
-Arranged Marriages between physical embodiments of the seasons or planets
- There's something dire down in the mines to the east of this old Western town. Folks keep goin' in to investigate, disappearin' for days at a time, then comin' back all different-like with the lights gone from their eyes. What could be happenin' out there, sheriff? (horror/western)
-A sailor, pirate, or other seafarer keeps noticing the same shape in the waters near their ship. After a terrible storm, the ship wrecks… now, one’s a mermaid, one’s a sailor, and they’re both idiots trying to find their way back home.
-Disaster has struck! A grisly assassination attempt leads a bodyguard to quickly usher their liege to safety. Drama ensues!
-Stowaways, and the people who catch 'em!
- Androids and more androids! Or... androids and non-androids!
-In a dwindling-magic world, those who cling to the olde magicks and the old way of living struggle against the new capitalist society and its nonmagic technology. In one still-magickal neighborhood where our story takes place, shopkeepers fight against nonmagickal gentrification in an effort to keep their businesses, communities, and traditions alive.
- A wandering traveler gets caught in a storm and chances upon an abandoned home, castle, or manor.... oh no!
- A train hopping crust punk encounters the ghost of a fellow train-hopper who fell under the rails and died.
- A living person's computer, gaming device, or phone is inhabited by a flirty ghost!
- There's a friendly but sad ghost living in a living person's new home! (Can you tell I like ghosts?)

Hey Tiergan, do you have any advice or links of advice that I can give to my friend? They are dealing with someone trying to blend ooc and ic together to get what they want out of my friend. And I don’t know how to phrase how toxic this is without upsetting my friend deeply.
Going to go out on a limb and assume that you are facing the following scenario: The asshole in question is mixing IC and OOC, because they - out of character - really want a specific IC result.  To achieve this, they’re use the RP itself as a tool to try and pressure, force, or guide the RP towards their desired IC outcome instead of the fun, spontaneous, consensual thing it’s supposed to be.
In fact, they may be using the RP as escapism and feel entitled to specific behaviors from your friend, which is dangerously ripe for abuse.
If this is the situation you’re dealing with, then perhaps it might help your friend if you pointed how it is totally normal to have ideas and head-canons that you would be excited to see happen if they were to occur in RP between you and your friends’ characters ...with the caveat that you don’t expect it, feel entitled to it, or try to railroad the RP in that direction.
You hope these ideas might happen, you don’t know if they will happen, but you’re willing to see how things go and explore where the characters take you.
OR if you really, really would love to see if a certain head-canon is actually possible between your characters without leaving it up to chance - you just have an open OOC conversation to see if your RP buddy would be up for it.  If yes? Awesome. Go forth and create great stories together. If no? Drop the idea entirely.  It’s that simple.  RP is supposed to be a fun relaxing hobby. It’s collaborative storytelling. You are creating a narrative together with your friend and it should be a team effort.
What’s not normal is using IC actions and roleplay as a tool to try and force another player’s hand or pressure them towards a specific RP result, even if the second player is not entirely okay with it and perhaps hasn’t even consented.  This is intensely manipulative behavior and it robs other people of not just their agency over their characters, but their choices and freedoms in how they would like to enjoy what should otherwise be a fun, relaxing, not-super-serious hobby in a video game.
This behavior is not all that different from all the stories we’ve heard of creepy fuckboys using RP as a tool to pressure others into sexual situations they didn’t really ask for.  In fact, I would say creepy fuckboy RPers are experts at weaponizing RP to pressure other people towards the RP outcomes the fuckboys desire.
You can tell when another RPer has lost sight of things and is potentially being a massive abusive shit when they stop having regular open chats with their partners about what direction their partners might like to see the RP could go in.  Or they don’t seem all that interested in their partners having an active and equal say over in what happens to their character in RP.  Or most importantly - they rarely stop to check or gauge whether their partners are is still having fun!
The reason why assholes have so much success using the roleplay itself as a tool to force people to behave a certain way IC or take the story in a certain direction, is because it’s very easy for them to wave a hand and say “It’s just RP.” “This is what my character wants.” “I can’t help that this is what my character feels!”
They pass the buck to the fictional character, so they can evade being held accountable for poor behavior while conveniently forgetting that “My RP partner is really uncomfortable with where the RP is going” is an OOC problem that can only be solved with the OOC solution of having some honest, open communication about where you both would like the RP to go in so you both have fun instead of plowing ahead at the expense of your friend’s comfort.
If the two of you talk and it turns out both of you want dramatically different things in RP and there is no compromise where both of you can fully enjoy yourselves - you shouldn’t be RPing together and should be finding different, more compatible RP partners. Full stop. There’s no harm in realizing that that perhaps you and your friend are not aligned in what you both need to be happy in RP.  If your partner wants all romance RP all the time with lots and lots of ERP and you hate it - then it’s okay to acknowledge that maybe you need to split ways and find people who like the things you also like.
If all of this ramble isn’t terribly useful without a clear example, here is a personal one I’ll share under the cut (NEVERMIND, TUMBLR’S CODE IS FUCKING GARBAGE. I’m sorry this is a massive post.) of what I went through with my first Romance RP in this community with a player I eventually just cut off entirely.
When I first joined FFXIV, I decided to try some Romance RP with a person who played a fellow escaped-slave capable of casting magic.  This character was designed to be shy, submissive, demure, afraid to trust and fearful of being caught/sent back to their master, but ultimately also noble and working grow and learn to trust others in the big wide scary world.
However, if Tiergan (and by extension, I) did anything the player did not like, such as speaking to or befriending a person they perceived as a romantic ‘threat’, doing or saying anything they did not like, going to the ‘wrong’ place, or going ANYWHERE without them - their character would immediately respond with intense vitriol and rage, asserting that clearly Tiergan did not love them enough, did not care enough, and wasn’t trying hard enough.  For if Tiergan truly loved them, he would stop talking to x-person, would stop going places without them, would stop doing or thinking certain things and taking certain actions.
They would say all the things they knew would draw out a specific response out of my character and have him redoubling his efforts doing exactly what was desired of him.
I should point out all this character’s actions above are intensely emotionally abusive IC and all of that would be fine if I had signed up for it.  If I knew it was going to be that way, and consented to it, I would’ve been fine.  But I didn’t.  And it was clear after a certain point that this player was not intentionally playing an emotionally manipulative, abusive character - but that they themselves were emotionally abusive.  They were simply trying to weaponize the RP in a way that would force me in the direction they wanted and and would punish Tiergan (and by extension, me) for not playing our role as the big beefy sexy warrior lover to their liking.
This player was also highly controlling. They wanted our characters to be together at all times and they wanted to be involved in all of my RP - even in situations where it wouldn’t make any sense for their character to come along or I didn’t have permission to bring them.  If Tiergan left without them, whether because he (or I) needed space or I literally wasn’t allowed to bring them, because it wasn’t my plot or my event - Tiergan was punished, guilt-tripped, and told all sorts of terrible things.
The IC threat this player used the most often when Tiergan did something they didn’t want was that they would “return back to their master”, citing “at least my master truly loves me” - because they knew it was the fastest way to get Tiergan to break down and beg for forgiveness. Things eventually built up to the point of violence where the character electrocuted Tiergan in his own metal armor out of anger of him not being the kind of lover they expected out of him.
They used their character’s extreme displeasure to trigger certain reactions out of my character that they knew Tiergan would have to make it easier to isolate me from any other RPer that they saw as a romantic threat, or stop me from engaging in any RP without them, or participating in any plot that they were not directly invited to, or doing anything they didn’t really want Tiergan to do - and it took me a while to realise something was wrong because “it was just RP”.
Hopefully all of this ramble helps somehow.  It’s definitely a tricky, messy situation and your friend honestly might not realise they’re in deep shit until it’s too late depending on the level of manipulation. If they don’t listen to you, sometimes the best you can do is just let them know you are there as support and they can turn to you if they need.  That way, if things go horribly wrong, they know they can turn to you for help.
Good luck anon.

hey this isn't intended to be hate and you don't even have to post this, but i don't think you should have bryce on tumblr. i personally know the difference between fiction and reality, but a lot of people get real upset over this stuff. i wouldn't want you getting attacked or called out.
hey there. i appreciate you sending this in !! this is honestly awful nice of you. it would suck if someone took me rping bryce the wrong way, like it would a lot. i’ve thought about not rping him. but i believe in writing outside comfort zones and that it strengthens writers. just because someone roleplays a character that’s done something horribly wrong and disgusting doesn’t mean they believe it to be right in real life. i play a lot of horrible characters on this blog, not just bryce. for examples:
chucky (MURDER not just adults but he’s stabbed a pregnant woman in the stomach at like 8 months has taken over people’s bodies which you could argue be violating someone’s body)
klaus mikaelson (i think we all know the horrible things he’s done. murder, brainwash, torture…)
damon salvatore (he essentially used his compulsion powers to rape caroline)
kai anderson (shit dude. he’s a fucking cult leader who absolutely hates women and worships misogynistic assholes like charles manson)
negan (👀 he’s a fuckin’ jerk, let’s admit lol)
cal jacobs (he’s a transphobe closested asshole)
angelus (like WOW he’s definitely raped some women in his time, torture, murder, has eaten babies and orphans… he’s even pinned a puppy to a wall)
chuck bass (he sexually assaulted jenny humphrey in season 1 or did people forget that?)
the joker (an abusive manipulator)
just to name a few… but people need to be mature enough to separate fiction and reality, like you had mentioned. and it’s sad if people can’t. i’ve stated hundreds of times that i DO NOT condone anything my terrible muses have done. i recognize that they’ve done it, i don’t erase their toxicity one bit but don’t get me wrong… i can really hate them for the shit they’ve done to people. if people start actually giving me some shit for rping bryce, then i’ll just move him to discord if need be. it would suck because i would love to give him a slow burn redemption arc. damon got one, negan got one, angel got one, chuck got one… why can’t bryce? he’s shown potential and i wanted to explore that potential unlike the show did.
i really do appreciate you caring for me, though! it means heaps!! you’re a lovely person, don’t forget that! i have some thick skin though so please don’t be too worried for me

FFXIV New/Shy Roleplayer Advice
In the wake of the release of World Visiting, and in preparation of the new expansion, I wanted to take a bit to bring up some helpful tips and tricks for those who might be diving into the roleplay community for the first time. Some of these are also very useful for those of us who may struggle to reach out for roleplay, or have trouble initiating roleplay.
In this post, I’ll be discussing Search Comments, Idle Posting, Events and Social Media outlets.
Either way, I hope these help! Popping this under a ‘Read More’ to avoid being too much of a wall-text spammer. Sorry to the mobile users! >.<
1.) The Search Comment
Final Fantasy XIV offers the opportunity to attach a small 60 character description of your character to your character’s name.Search comments are perfect opportunities to provide links to social media sites where one might find more information about your character (such as Tumblr, Carrd or Twitter). However, it can also be used to provide a very small glimpse into what kind of character you’re playing. Using this comment efficiently can promote your character to others and collect interest from curious potential roleplay partners.
So let's look at some examples of comments.
“All RP, Tells W/Us welcome” - A good start! You’re letting the community know that you’re a roleplayer, and that you’re okay with both /say and /tell roleplay. You’ve officially flagged yourself as a roleplayer. But there’s not much going on beyond that, right? This kind of comment is like being a single fish in a sea of fish. It doesn’t sell your character very much. But, if you would prefer to hide a lot about your character, this might be the way to go for you.
“RP. Healer. Tribal.” - Much better! Now people are aware that you’re a roleplayer, your character is a healer of some sort, and that they carry some sort of tribal beliefs. This really helps people who are looking for certain RP scenes to find you!
“RP. Old Fortune-teller. Kind-hearted. Missing left eye.” - Another good example! This one lets any potential partner know about physical features that can’t be communicated in game, such as missing limbs or tattoos. This one also provides a personality trait that lets them know how your character might act during a scene.
The Search Comment has a limited space, but is a powerful tool to attract attention to your character. You can update it as often as you want to reflect changes in your character, link to art of your character’s true appearance...the possibilities are endless!
2.) The Idle Post
I think a good number of us have experienced the “Crowded Room of Silence”. A ton of people, with their RP tags on, standing around a room...with not a single word spoken. It’s awkward, and to some, it can be a terrible mix of boredom and disappointment.
A lot of people are waiting to have someone walk up and offer a post. But without a search comment to work with, and without any context about what the character is doing, it can sometimes feel like the initiator is walking up on a statue. That’s where Idle Posting comes in.
Idle Posts are simple posts that describe what your character is doing in that moment. No dialogue is needed, no fancy para-posting required. Just a simple statement to let everyone around you know what sort of movements or activities are happening.
Here’s some examples:
“Ranya Vexile took a drink from the mug of steaming brew that was cradled between her pale hands. The face she made in the wake of the single sip sang songs to the vile aftertaste of the poorly made coffee.”
“Nikolai Barlaas scanned the crowd with a lazy stare. So many people to watch today! And yet, the crowd did not stop the man from fiddling with the worn foreign coin in his hand, the circle of metal rolling over his knuckles like a parlor trick.”
“Arty Surefoot stood at the bar, about to light up her pipe. When her smallfolk hand patted her left pocket, her brows raised in surprise. Where was her lighter? Why wasn’t it in the right place? The lalafell proceeded to rifle through her remaining pockets, muttering grumpily.”
These kinds of posts offer interest to a silent room, and also open up opportunities for those around you to comment on what you’re doing. Is the coffee bad? Where’d you get that coin? Looking for someone? Need a light?
Sometimes it’s just as hard for someone who’s not shy to figure out a walk up post. These kinds of flavor posts really offer some great chances for roleplay to start!
3.) Events
Ah, the scariest of them all. EVENTS.
Events are often built by people who want to promote roleplay experiences. Bar/tavern events are easy starting points since there are often waiters/waitresses/bartenders around that will engage anyone who arrives to ask them for drinks and such.
Other events will have games/events that pair people up (like dances, or the Grindstone) where you are provided a partner to engage. This is a great way for those with a bit of courage to force themselves into a roleplay exchange. While it can be scary the first few times, it can really help a new/shy roleplayer desensitize themselves to the fear of initiation.
There are a TON of events that happen, and with the World Visiting system in full swing, it’s pretty easy to find something to go to on a weekly basis.
4.) Social Media
This one is entirely optional, but absolutely worth mentioning.
Final Fantasy XIV has spread to a number of different social media sources. Tumblr and Twitter are big ones. Some folks also use Pillowfort, Carrd and the RPC Wiki. But what’s the fuss? Why do it?
Roleplay is something that takes time and investment. Character portrayal and growth, storylines, history...all of this information can sometimes take months, years of roleplay for just one person to figure out all there is to know about your character. Having a social media platform where you can document this information can be helpful to attract interested partners, to provide a place to expand on your search comment information, and to post solo writing that allows for people to see into certain aspects of your character that they themselves may not experience when roleplaying with your character.
Social media is also great for fleshing out your character. It gives a place to collect aesthetics and inspiration that can help you as a roleplayer figure out all the fun little details about your character’s appearance, voice, feelings, environment, etc.
Certain media sources, like Tumblr, allow for you to interact with others via asks and messages, offering the opportunity to inspire and answer questions about your characters to build connections outside of the game at a more relaxed pace.
While Social Media outlets do have their detriments, it can still offer a wide collection of opportunities for growth and improvement as a writer and creator.
One last thing to mention - Roleplaying is a hobby that is filled with potential for new friendships and wonderful experiences. But it takes time, effort and a positive outlook. Be kind to one another. Be patient. Keep trying. Communicate.
Wow, that was a lot more than I expected to write! Sorry about the wall-spam, folks. But I’ve been meaning to collect some helpful tidbits for some time. And seeing as I’ve had an influx of new faces lately, and considering our upcoming new content, I wanted to get this done sooner rather than later.

Welcome to the Order of the Phoenix, Ilya!
You have been accepted for the role of CARADOC DEARBORN with the faceclaim of Jordan Calloway! We really enjoyed everything you crafted around his habit of compartmentalizing, and the juxtaposition you have set-up between his public attitude of neutrality and his private convictions; those layers should be a lot of fun to explore. We are so excited to have you as part of this roleplay!
Please take a look at the new member checklist and send in your account within 24 hours! Thank you for joining the fight against Voldemort!
OUT OF CHARACTER:
NAME: Ilya
AGE: 32
TIMEZONE: GMT+1
ACTIVITY LEVEL: I don’t have a set schedule and I tend to keep odd hours, so one day I can be on in the morning, another be up all night. It really depends day-by-day. But I always have a four-five days when I can have dedicated time on my laptop. I know your activity is very generous, I fully intend to aim for more than a post a week.
ANYTHING ELSE: I don’t have any specific triggers or squicks. I have experience in tumblr RPing, but it’s been a year since my last one. I really look forward to get back to it. In my experience, I tend to be silent in discord chats but I promise it’s not lack of interest. It’s just that sometimes I don’t know what to say, or usually I’m about to write something but the conversation moves along.
CHARACTER DETAILS:
NAME: Caradoc Ekwueme Dearborn
Caradoc is a Welsh name, meaning “love,” and was chosen by his father. Ekwueme is an Igbo name, meaning “he says, he does”, and it was chosen by his mother.
AGE: 28 (b. January 1st, 1953)
GENDER, PRONOUNS, and SEXUALITY: Cis male. He/Him pronouns. Demisexual/Demiromantic.
When it came to gender and sexuality, Caradoc had never questioned himself out of his own initiative. Not even when his peers were discussing their crushes and he had nothing to contribute aside from a friendly joke here and there.
“Don’t you have someone you want to ask out?” was a question he answered easily with a “no.” But he would agree to be a friend’s wingman or the fourth in a double date if asked. It was on one such occasion that he found himself with someone that, while she did not inspire any of the feelings his friends liked to talk about, was nice to spend time with and kiss. The relationship only lasted one year, but they stayed friends throughout their remaining time in school.
Caradoc doesn’t use those exact labels. When asked he simply answers “not interested,” not that many do—they assume he’s too preoccupied with his duties with the Order, or with his job, anyway.
BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood
HOUSE ALUMNI: Hufflepuff
ANY CHANGES: If it possible, I would like to change FC to Jordan Calloway. I imagine Caradoc having an athletic, sturdy kind of body, something that would give reason to people to think him more brawns than brains. He also has a decent amount of resources available in terms of gifs.
CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
PERSONALITY:
Since being a child, Caradoc has been cultivating a strong sense of morality and personal responsibility over his own actions. The question of what is right and what is wrong is something that he ponders often, almost relentlessly, and it guides him in his desire to find ways to make the world better than it is today.
This desire colours each and every action he takes, and in return every action is examined so he can know where it falls. The pivotal question, the one he always asks himself: is this doing more good or more harm?
He constantly thinks it over, sometimes the answer changes as time goes by and there is more context to add itself to the situation. But he always, ceaselessly, acts according to his own set of morals.
It is by this very personal moral view that Caradoc has no doubts about the Order. Stealing from those that have in abundance to give to those that have nothing is more right than wrong, even if illegal. Breaking the law is wrong, but breaking the law to save innocent lives is right, and there is no doubt in him about that. The same goes for his own personal safety. Dying in pursuit of this goal is something he is not afraid of, but he is not searching for a heroic death—as his mother’s death taught him: the dead can’t fight any longer.
While this does work as a strength, on the other side it’s also his weakness. It lends him to dislike and distrust those whose morals don’t align with his own. It’s the reason he has stopped joking along to problematic throw-away comments and he’s becoming less and less tolerant of other people’s jokes. Especially the ones at the expense of the marginalised—the Muggles and Muggleborns, Squibs and Werewolves, the Goblins and House Elves; every person or creature whose rights are few or non-existent in Wizarding society. He is ready to admonish people for it and for every slur or slip-of-the-tongue that might betray any kind of bigotry.
But at the same time, he has learned that there are times when he needs to bite his own tongue. If in political conversations Caradoc seldom listens to the nuance of people’ speeches, when talking of private affair there is no word or pause that is not being heard. He is a good listener, when he puts effort into it. He tries his best to not brush off people’s worries or concerns, even if they happen to be far removed from the war and their mission. But it’s not easy when he’s so focused—focused, not obsessed—on the war.
Smiles, however, are rare, and laughter is a sound that has been missing for almost a decade. It’s difficult to laugh, to even be in the mood for it, when all around them the world seems to get just a little bit worse each day. But Caradoc knows he needs to unwind, sometimes—when someone or something reminds him—otherwise they are calling him obsessed. And he isn’t. He is not. Could he still enjoy time with his friends if he was? Sure, he won’t drink or let too loose, but that’s just practical. They are at war after all.
BRIEF OVERVIEW OF FAMILY:
His father was born into a Welsh pureblood family that valued tradition, but because there had never been any open talk against Muggles and Muggleborns, Meurig Dearborn had grown up thinking his family to be fairly open-minded. But his own ignorance and his own prejudices were soon revealed to him by the young woman that would become his wife. Daughters of diplomats, Amara Dumont had grown up in Belgium but studied at Hogwarts, sorted—of course—into Gryffindor. Even at a young age, she had taken an interest in what happened in the world, her mind always imagining which steps could be taken to better it. At the same time as she received news from the continent about Grindelwald and the terrible ways he used his power, she witnessed Tom Riddle gather his Knight of Walpurgis around himself and saw it for what it was: danger brewing.
The two found themselves unlikely allies, a Gryffindor and a Slytherin, a foreigner witch and a Welsh wizard. Amara, someone bursting with passion with every breathing moment, and Meurig, always careful to present himself like the proper pureblood wizard he was raised to be. She would speak openly of her ideals, her morals, and fought to see the rights of minorities and the marginalised recognised, and was there marching during the Squib Rights Marches both to protect the other protesters and being one herself. He, ever the Slytherin, chose to follow the example of the Dearborns before him—wizards seemingly content with the current status quo, only acting when their hands could not be seen—only allowed to be truthful to himself when in the company of those he trusted.
As parents, they were present in the life of their only son, Caradoc, but never overbearing. Meurig passed down the pureblood traditions of his ancestors—to gather ivy on Halloween night and how to use it for divinations; to purify one’s house at the start of Spring to keep away unwanted guests as ghouls and gnomes; the importance and value of family and the proper way to propose to a witch—and Amara made sure that all and every notion was to be examined and challenged. They were honest with him, and that meant that even as a young child, Caradoc was aware of the world outside their warm little family and the injustices that happened there. It cultivated within him a strong morality and a sense of responsibility for his own actions and those of others.
They looked at him with pride and never forgot to show him their love, and in return Caradoc always looked up to them with admiration. Wizarding society had a more polarising view of their family. Purebloods still liked Meurig and invited him to their events, but they had no love for Amara’s fiery personality and opinions. By contrast, those that were as outspoken as Amara failed to understand how and why she had married Meurig, a wizard that never expressed his opinion at all. From this, Caradoc soon learned that the eyes of others are always watching, gawking and judging every choice, and one mustn’t act by what others think is right, but by what you think is right.
Taking after his mother, politically aware from a young age on, Caradoc’d beg her mother to let him go with her during marches, and as much as her refusal was accompanied by an honest explanation, it always hurt a little to be left behind.
But that was nothing compared to the hurt that her death brought onto the family. Without her, the fire in Meurig extinguished. She had been the force to push him outside of the confines of pureblood traditions and expectations, and without her he couldn’t fight as he had before. Caradoc’s fire, by contrast, was fed to a scorching degree by her death. If his mother couldn’t be here herself to burn bright and set all those who executed injustices ablaze, then he would make sure to do it for the both of them.
OCCUPATION: Obliviator.
Caradoc sought out a position inside the Ministry of Magic just as quickly as he sought one in the Order, feeling he could help the latter with the former and at the same time trying to do some good inside the government too.
He aimed for a job that would not constrict him behind a desk, which he felt would have left him both restless and with less space to also work for the Order. His talents with spellwork, especially in Charms, and excellent marks in Muggle Studies, landed him at the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes.
His first months working as an Obliviator were more forming than probably intended. His mentor was a callous wizard that would do the job quickly but not always in the best way. The Muggles would forget everything they saw, but often were left too confused, with big gaps in their memories and a headache for days. Caradoc did not like it.
The job was already so intrusive, violating even, by its nature that doing it so wrongly felt unnecessarily cruel. It made Caradoc realise that as much as the Statue of Secrecy was much needed for both Wizarding and Muggle world, it was something that left the latter far too vulnerable. He felt a sense of responsibility towards the people who would need his spellwork, and that responsibility grew and it expanded to the Muggle population at large, giving him even more resolve in his fight against the Death Eaters and their agenda. And with that responsibility also came a feeling which he couldn’t clearly name but always left a bad taste in his mouth every time he robbed another Muggle of their memories, even if for their own good. Some days, it lingers well past office hours, and he feels like it won’t go away until this war is over.
ROLE WITHIN THE ORDER/THOUGHTS ABOUT THE ORDER:
Being in the Inner-Circle—a name Caradoc dislikes—he is part of decision-makers of the Order of the Phoenix. It’s not a role he actively sought for himself, leading had never been the goal, but as the years went on and people continued to die around him, others sought him out when in need. His calm attitude and his sharp focus lent themselves to make him a good listener and decisive when it came to tough choices to make.
These days, he understands people’s frustrations with the Order. The war is nowhere near to be over, and failures are always felt stronger than victories. Not that there are many of those to go around. But that shouldn’t be a reason to act without thought, and lately Caradoc has had many thoughts about what to do with those that feel the Order isn’t doing enough. For one, he would like to help Marlene and her Dissendium Task Force more. While he is frustrated that few people want to fight in this war, fight for what’s right against Voldemort and his followers, he also understands that not everyone can help in the same way and that any help, no matter how little or small, is better than nothing. People shouldn’t be forced to fight if they don’t want to—it wouldn’t make them good fighters, or trustworthy ones—and if one wanted to be cold about it, there was value in promising someone to deliver their family to safety if they give help in return. Not that he likes these sort of transactions. Caradoc feels that good should be done for good’ sake, and not for any return, but he’s not above trying to find a different angle to see things.
And it’s this way of thinking that makes him careful with Dorcas and her group. He won’t brush them aside because there could be still usefulness in their passion, it only needs to be directed in ways that will do more good than harm. Because that’s Caradoc ever present question: how far can we go until we are doing more harm than good? Is any of this truly going to help, or am I only making things worse?
When it comes to the Order of the Phoenix, the answer to that question is clear. Staying with the group, helping planning more and more operations, can only do good. He could never see himself abandoning the Order or the mission and is determined to motivate others to stay, too, reminding them of the importance of what they are doing. He doesn’t trust the Ministry enough. It was easy for the Death Eater to infiltrate it, and it was too easy for them as well, so he could never see the government truly succeeding into winning the war. And he imagines the Order wouldn’t want him to leave either, he has proven a good member. He can follow orders when necessary, he is not shy when it comes to duelling or to spying, and he can make smart and firm decision even when the pressure is high.
SURVIVAL:
Officially, Caradoc lives with his father in their home in Abertridwr, a village three miles from Caerphilly in Wales. But most nights he is out for Order’s business, and he ends up either sleeping at the Potter Estate or on someone else’s couch.
Wherever he goes, he is always careful. He never indulges in things like alcohol or drugs or anything, really, that could cloud his judgement in any way. It’s what gives him that stick-up-his-arse air, but also—in his opinion—what helped him staying alive.
And learning from his mother’s death and his father’ survival, Caradoc dons an air of neutrality when he’s outside of the Order’s company and takes a moment to take his feelings and putting them aside.
He has always had a knack for compartmentalising his feelings. It’s what helps him hold his tongue at work as well as with the Order. To achieve this, he imagines his grandmother’s old apothecary drawer cabinet, and in his mind he opens one little cubic drawer to put away his feelings. His humor is in there somewhere, locked away since the death of his mother. It still hasn’t been opened again.
This ability may have put to slumber the carefree Caradoc of Hogwarts’ days, but it assures there are no thoughts to distract him during fights, no fear to jeopardise his actions and no memories to leave him shaken and unfocused. It has also helped him shield his thoughts from prying minds. And while outsiders could maybe tell he has no love for the Death Eaters, they can’t say he approves of the Order either.
Then there is the memory charm. He is extremely skilled at it, but he’s still sometimes morally conflicted about it—something that makes him nervous—and is not sure he would retort to it. Is violating a person’s mind right? Then, when in the heat of battle or when he lays eyes on the ash and remains of lost one, he tells himself he could do more good than harm with it.
Adding to that, he keeps himself in fighting shape, physically and when it comes to spellwork. He may not be the most elegant duelist, but at least he is still breathing.
RELATIONSHIPS:
As a teenager, Caradoc’s smiles were frequent and laughs were far from a myth. It might shock some to think of Caradoc as someone who not only knows about Quidditch but actually played it himself. Fast on his broom, quick with his mind, he was a formidable Chaser. He would enjoy the parties and even try some rule-breaking when it did no harm. His sense of morality and responsibility back then made him the one to look out for other students, making sure they could always find an ally in him, and admonishing bullies. But it was far from an ever-consuming thought or mission.
Everything changed with his mother’s death in his last year of school. Nowadays, he’s different. To such a degree that sometimes he feels like a completely different person. To know Caradoc, to truly come to know him, is not easy. Much of him is hidden in those drawers and they are all locked or stuck closed. Caradoc himself has no desire to open them up, even around those he trusts, because in these dark times it doesn’t feel right to be fully seen. So one must be either extremely patient or fancy themselves a way to pick all those locks.
His need to know what is right and wrong pushes him to try to figure people out so he can put them into similar categories. The Good and the Bad. Those deserving of trust and those to keep a vigil eye on. Allies and Enemies. There isn’t much space for grey areas.
While he’s loyal by nature and would never refuse to help anyone—let alone a friend, even if a lot of time has passed since they last saw each other or spoke—he is too focused on the war and unless people remind him to unwind or ask for his help, he tends to neglect them on a personal level.
His strong defense of minorities like Muggles and Muggles, and even Werewolves, puts him in the position of distrusting Purebloods—the irony of being one not lost on him—or those Half-bloods that have stronger ties to the Wizarding society than the Muggle World. He’s always keeping an eye on them. People like Frank or Branwen. People like Peter or Ryland. Those are some he can’t fully trust. Not yet, at least. Which is why he would actually stay closer to them, trying to know and understand them better.
Then there is the potential trouble-makers like Dorcas. He is sympathetic to her complaints, and he is not ready to dismiss her as easily as other high up have done. If only to make sure she doesn’t do something that would turn to cause more harm than good. But he still feels like there is potential in Dorcas and her little group.  Trouble for the enemy is peace for oneself, isn’t it?}
When it comes to romance, there is none in Caradoc’s life. He doesn’t have the time. He had tried once. A year after his mother’s death there was someone who, much like his first girlfriend, he felt comfortable around. They had been the first to call him ‘obsessed’, and he had meant to prove that he wasn’t. Surely, someone obsessed wouldn’t find the time to date. The relationship didn’t last. Caradoc’s heart wasn’t really in it. And then his partner left the Order, and it truly seemed a sign that for him romance had no place in this war.
(As a sidenote, I’m open to make more specific connections with other characters. Especially if players may have headcanons or idea for their relationship with Caradoc that they want to discuss. I know that it usually goes without saying, but I thought to add it just in case.)
OOC EXPLORATION:
SHIPS/ANTI-SHIPS: I don’t have any ships or anti-ships set in stone. I prefer to go with chemistry between characters, and I can only see that by playing. Though, I can say that I don’t see Caradoc as being very preoccupied with romance, or even flings. It won’t be something he’d be after. Then, of course, chemistry. Characters have always a way to surprise.
WHAT PRIVILEGES AND BIASES DOES YOUR CHARACTER HAVE?
In the Wizarding world, Caradoc does have all the privileges accorded to purebloods. He has a more intimate knowledge of its culture and customs, and he has knowledge of pureblood traditions in particular as passed down from his father. Especially seeing how Wizarding society alienates Squibs and treat them as lesser people. How some pureblood families go as far as to pretend their children had died rather than admit they have no magic; or shunning them altogether, striking their names from the family tree and leaving them to fend for themselves in a world that doesn’t want them. How Muggleborns and Half-Breeds earn open hate and are never given the same chances in their everyday, magical life. Witnessing all of this, Caradoc is aware of exactly how privileged he is, and it is grateful for it.
However, if his parents had taught him one thing, was that with privilege comes responsibility. His late mother’s actions in open support of minorities in Wizarding Society, is what spurns him on to use his social protection for the greater good.
During the last ten years, he has worked to shed as many prejudices as he can towards Muggles, Half-breeds and other magical creatures. Even werewolves, since as his mother used to say, “they are still human beings for the other twenty-eight nights of the month. I can’t say the same of Riddle and his ilk.” Today, he is a firm believer that Squibs, Werewolves and Goblins should have equal rights and if any wanted to join their fight against Voldemort and the Death Eaters he would welcome them.
Hid rigid, black-and-white, mentality makes him categorise people into either good or bad. Any harm done by werewolves is not comparable in gravity to that done by those who want all werewolves gone. And since the Death Eaters’ agenda doesn’t stop to eliminate one single group but many, he’d rather not talk nuances which would only feed their arguments and instead see these groups that are targeted as good.
Nevertheless, he knows that there are bigots in both worlds. Where one world focuses so much on blood and magic, the other focuses on the color of one’s skin and the gender assigned to them. While he certainly can see how prejudices brought from one world to the other is not a good thing, he doesn’t find it reason enough to bar Muggleborns from their world—not even Muggles if one so desired to marry one.
He’d rather side with an ignorant Muggleborn in the face of an attack by a blood supremacist than with the latter by discussing the former’s ignorance.
Perhaps this is why he gets fed up with other people who share his privilege but who choose to do nothing, or why he’s becoming more and more suspicious of them. Can they really be good people if they’re protected by their blood? And yes, the irony is not lost on him.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO?
I usually avoid Marauders Era RPs because I’m not a great fan of set ships and set “destinies”, even if it’s ships and ends that I like. So, from the start, the AU aspect of this RP drove me to check out the rest, especially since it’s not completely AU but building on canon and the fact that it focuses on the Order instead of the classic Order vs Death Eaters. I also love that there is so much world building, and not just from the admins but the players too.
PLOT DROP IDEAS:
When it comes to Caradoc’s journey, I’d love to see what happens to his “drawers”. If they’ll stay close, and maybe even grow in numbers, stashing away more of himself; or if someone will be able to help him open them up and make him less “cold.”.
Especially considering how in Canon, Caradoc disappears, never to be seen again, with no one knowing what happened to him. So, I find interesting that in a way, he is also slowly disappearing, albeit metaphorically.
I would also like to see how far he can push his morals. If he’ll fully side with Dorcas, if he’ll be able to find some middle-ground of sorts. Or even what actions he’ll arrive to excuse for the “greater good.”
While for characters in general, I think I would also like for them to find themselves in situations where their morals might be challenged, where they might be pushed or tempted to cross a line.
This could come in the form of, maybe the group find themselves with a prisoner Death Eater, and it could spark a discussion on how far would they go to get information out of him.
I would also like something related to the Dissendium Task Force. Seeing how in game there can be secondary characters, maybe having a Muggleborns as one. They would be someone that, with their Muggle family, is hosted at the McKinnon farm in wait to be smuggled out of the country. Interacting with the characters, it would be interesting if this character ends up to be convinced to stay and fight, but then during their first mission panicking and losing their lives.
It could have people reflect on the task force and its mission, especially for those that believe the Order shouldn’t send potential “soldiers” away.
ANYTHING ELSE?
I don’t remember how I stumbled upon these posts that match houses and zodiac, but it’s what I use to choose my characters’ birthdays. Here Caradoc’s: https://hp-aesthetic.tumblr.com/tagged/capricorn-hufflepuff
Also, thinking about Caradoc’s Enneagram, I think Type One fits him best. And this is a Sleeping At Last song about Type Ones: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sO2UMoOaFQ
