For all the people upset and angry about the Stroll and Ricciardo (and Piastri) incident, that is completely understandable, your favourites race was ruined by another driver and you feel frustrated. However this does not give you leave to hate Stroll for what is by all accounts a racing incident and was almost completely unavoidable given the circumstances. The incident you see is not occurring due to malicious intent or a lack of skill or concentration, it is simply an unfortunate consequence of compounding factors that could not be escaped.
My reasons for saying this, and a couple of things I think people should note are below the break.
First, when watching the replay one thing is immediately obvious, because of the speed at which the collision occurred, you can make a pretty good estimate of when contact first initiated. From there you can then tell that prior to contact, the nose of Ricciardo was already underneath piastri. This lokely means that contact had already occurred, if not significant, and may have still proceeded further without any outside influence (which could have meant damage to Piastri was inevitable, or at least Riccardo's front wing). As such, it is unfair to say that Stroll caused that particular collision completely (there is definite contribution but not entirely on him, Riccardo is just as at fault in this instance).
Second, there was genuinely no where else for him to go. If he goes to the outside to avoid a collision, he's onto the curb and grass, potentially causing a loss of control and a collision anyway. If he goes to the inside of the track, there is potential then gor a lock up in which case he goes straight on and t-bones another driver, thus another collision.
Now on to the cause of the rear ending, it takes a bit more than looking at just the two cars (03 & 18) to determine what the cause may have been. As an example, a popular take I've seen so far includes people saying "it was at a hairpin, he should have known cars are going slow and slowed down accordingly". This doesn't necessarily make sense. If this happened at the first lap of the safety car, then the idea has merit. However, this happened at the end of the safety car period, with no incident occuring earlier thus implying that such an incident is isolated and may have a bit more to it than what it appears to be.
Also note that these cars DO NOT have break lights, thus comparing it to a road car doesn't work either.
For what actually occurred, it's a bit if a chain reaction unfortunately resulting in a collision at the end. First, Perez is further ahead of Sainz than what Sainz is comfortable with going into a restart, so Sainz accelerates to close it. This then prompts Alonso to follow suit, then Russell, then Piastri, Ricciardo, and Stroll when the widening gap is noticed. However, because humans can only react so fast, the marginal difference between the car ahead accelerating to the following car accelerating compounds gradually, and for drivers this may only be 0.2 of a second, but over 5 drivers that is almost a full second delay.
As Sainz approaches the corner, he breaks, which then prompts Alonso to break, however he may have been going slightly faster than the tires could handle so as not to get dropped upon the restart, and therefore locks up.
As such, Russell must break as quickly as possible to avoid Alonso, who has momentarily lost control. Because he is trying to avoid a collision with Alonso ahead, he may also break a bit heavier than he usually would into this corner.
This then pushes Piastri to hit the brakes, again harder than usual, to avoid Russell, who's is attempting to avoid Alonso.
Now we get to Ricciardo. Because of the compounding reaction times of the drivers ahead and himself, it is possible that Ricciardo was starting to accelerate as Alonso started locking up, thus giving him a much smaller window to effectively brake to avoid Piastri (as noted above, he did not entirely avoid this outcome prior to contact with Stroll).
Here is where that compounding reaction time effect really comes into play. Lance Stroll is fifth in the line behind Sainz. If all drivers are given a reaction time of 0.2, then his reaction to Sainz accelerating is 1 second, 0.8 to Alonso. Given a one second difference between Sainz accelerating and braking, then by the time Stroll starts to accelerate, Sainz is starting to brake. Another reminded here that the driver has a very limited view of what is happening ahead, so for Stroll he can see Ricciardo and Sainz, and that's about it. If he is watching the driver furthest ahead (Sainz), who is braking relatively normally, then there is jo reason to assume that the other drivers are not, especially as he cannot see them, therefore doesn't know Alonso has locked up and that Russell and Piastri are braking more than usual into this corner.
Quick reminder here that the compounding reaction times of the drivers meant that Ricciardo was late on the brakes and was likely going to rear end Piastri regardless of Stroll behind (and was infact underneath Piadtri at the time of contact anyway). As such, by the time Stroll has started accelerating, others are already heavy on the brakes, which means that regardless of how hard the brakes are hit there is not enough time for him to decelerate to a speed which may have prevented a crash with Ricciardo.
Seen below is a very quickly (and badly) drawn diagram of what I am talking about. The car at the front starts to accelerate, so all the cars accelerate. By the time the car at the back starts accelerating, the cars at the front are starting to brake. By the time the cars at the back have started reaching speed the cars infront of them are rapidly decelerating, leaving little time for the cars at the back to also decelerate. As such the cars at the back end up too close and hit the rear of the car infront. The further back in the line you are, the worse the effect.
Tumblr media
Could it have been possible for the to have been less damage? Yes, however only if it were at a different spot on the track where more visibility is afforded for the cars behind. It is important to remember that as far as Stroll can possibly be aware everyone ahead of him is going into this corner as expected and going to be braking accordingly. As such he does not have time to fully slow down with the limited space afforded by all cars ahead, given they are slowing much faster than usual. Given the part of the track these cars where on and the circumstances leading up to the collision however, means that I don not think there is anyway this could have been avoided, especially given how close they all were to each other.
Do I think the penalty was deserved? Maybe. On one hand Stroll did end Riccardo's race, and potentially cause further damage to Piastri. On the other, the incident was completely unavoidable and should be considered as such. A racing incident and nothing more.
Whether or not you disagree with me does not matter, and you are entitled your beliefs and opinions. However what you cannot do is spread unnecessary hate for a driver in a sport where these things happen. Yes you are allowed to be upset and angry about what has happened, but I guarantee that every single driver on the grid has made a stupid mistake that has ruined another's race at some point. This is why penalties exist, to punish people that have done something to detract from the performance of another driver or team in an unfair and detrimental way whether big or small. It does not give you leave to call for a driver to lose their seat and super licence for one incident, and spew vitriol in a space where the driver you are targeting is almost guaranteed not to see it. You are preaching to the masses, and making anyone that may be a fan of Stroll unwelcome and uncomfortable in almost all spaces.

A Fizziepop Take: Let's talk about Blitz's new look at Stolas
Tumblr media
Ok, so in the past, I’ve talked about how the incident at Ozzie’s put more strain on an already fragile relationship, thus solidifying the idea a certain imp had in his mind that he was essentially beneath Stolas in every way he possibly could be and therefore unworthy of love. This ideology made the relationship between the pair appear strictly transactional since Blitz wouldn’t let it be anything else because he himself feels that that’s how it should be; that it’s all it could be. Now don’t get me wrong, Stolas isn’t completely innocent in making the whole relationship feel more like a transaction than a relationship, but in this instance, we’re gonna focus on Blitz and what I believe his turn around will be based off this newest episode because I believe that it could be a game-changer for their relationship and Blitz’s own character development. So let’s get into it!
As I’ve pointed out previously, Blitz has felt like he’s been used as a glorified sex toy since the beginning of their relationship. And given the hierarchy of the demons, Blitz is already pretty low on the totem being an imp while Stolas sits somewhere on top…. We can see that Blitz understands that when he’s tripping balls in “Truth Seekers”, but because of this, it seems that Blitz got it in his mind that Stolas was less than ‘human’ (for lack of a better term). Because of the status difference, Blitz always just assumed the other demon was unfeeling, uncaring, and essentially indestructible; building this image of the demon prince in his head that is a romanticized version of him that truly was worlds above where Blitz sees himself. And until “Western Energy” came out today, this is really the only version we’re shown of Stolas because we seem to be seeing the man the way Blitz does. Is he whiny? Sometimes. But do things hurt him? From Blitz’s point of view, no.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We as the audience see maybe two or three times where Stolas is truly vulnerable but it seems to end just as quickly as it starts. Blitz doesn’t see that side of him. Granted, I believe Stolas does want a relationship with Blitz where he can be vulnerable in ways he never was able to before and because he has a preconceived notion of what their relationship is, Blitz shuts down any attempt Stolas tries to initiate intimacy… But I think in the imp doing this and Stolas just blindly going with it to try to appease Blitz has given the image of someone made of stone… And being so used to the abuse from Stella, Stolas doesn’t see that he’s almost restarting the cycle with Blitz by allowing the imp to be as mean as he is to him; even going as far as to tell Blitz through text that he can be mean to him if it’s what he wants. I think this genuinely leads Blitz to believe that Stolas can't be hurt in any way, emotionally to physically.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In all honesty, it’s interesting to look at Blitz in this light where he seems to unintentionally be another abusive relationship that Stolas is trapping himself in because you can see that the imp does genuinely care for the owl, even if he thinks he shouldn’t. That is why the incident at Ozzie’s was such a big deal to him, because after some time, I think Blitz was slowly trying to open himself up to Stolas and whatever little progress he made was pretty much crushed when Stolas basically refused to acknowledge the fact that he’s out with him in public when confronted. For someone like Blitz who struggles with communication and bases their self worth on how others view him, Stolas not wanting to be seen with him in public but being kind to him when no one else is around would have destroyed every sense of security he may have been starting to feel with the other man. Like just shredded it. Which in turn, is going to cause a rift that Blitz will rationalize as just him not being worth anything more even though he is actively contributing to the rift by refusing to communicate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, the interesting part: in the newest episode of Helluva Boss, Blitz actually has a chance to view a more humanized idea of Stolas. It sucks that it took Stolas being damn near murdered and hospitalized for Blitz to see him on a different level, but it does happen. I think this in turn may give us a more freely feeling version of Blitz down the line. We can already see small fragmented moments when Blitz is genuinely worried about Stolas, genuinely cares about him, but he still keeps himself distant…. Seeing something bad happen to Stolas does open the man up a little, prompting him to text the man while he’s in the hospital to let him know that he hopes he feels better. Despite how minor that may seem, I think it is a step in the right direction, and I do think he’ll see a more personified version of Stolas which could prompt him to want to be closer to him, meaning he would have to stop pushing his feelings down to allow himself to wander into this territory of emotional vulnerability he may have seen but never experienced.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While I trust Vivzie completely in this journey she’s taking us on, this is definitely a route I really hope she takes because I truly do want to see the two men get a happy ending of some sort whether that’s at the end of the series or it advances their storyline together through the rest of the series.  But this is just a Fizzie take on things so far. I would love to hear what your thoughts are on how Blitz and Stolas’ relationship seems to be going.

To Play With My Food.
“A Mood For Food,” Jim Cummings
----------------------------------------------------------
Happy Halloween, everybody! I have a treat for you all: this is the first of five images I got from various artists, for a series I simply like to call “OCs and Inspirations.” In honor of Disney’s 100th Anniversary, I decided to get some images of some of my major OCs for Twisted Wonderland - the first five introduced in stories - posing with their source inspirations. This first one is made by @hooter-n-company, and shows the first boi I ever made: Nakoda “Nako” Spivak, based on Kaa from Disney’s Jungle Book.
Nakoda was not meant to be a major character when I created him, but in the course of writing his introductory piece, “Snake-Like,” I fell in love with what I had created. So, part of the way through, I decided to have him become a student at Night Raven College, and thus allow him the opportunity for more adventures later down the line. He has since become one of my most popular OCs for this universe, even though he honestly hasn’t shown up in THAT many stories yet. I think part of the reason for this IS his inspiration from Kaa, since Kaa has become such an iconic character, ESPECIALLY within this particular “kinkdom.” That was part of what I love(d) about Nakoda: he’s a character who allows me to play with Kaa’s tropes and traits - Kaa HIMSELF being a rather overused and slightly overrated figure, in my personal opinion - while putting my own spin on things.
Like Kaa, Nakoda is insatiable in every sense of the word: about the only thing harder to satisfy than his hunger is his seemingly limitless “thirst.” This was meant to be a sort of in-joke for me on how over-sexualized Kaa himself has become in a LOT of places, but it actually works pretty well for Nakoda on a lot of levels, which is why I’ve kept it: for example, I recently was reminded that, in the original Kipling stories, it’s indicated Kaa has had many mates over the years, so even though we can presume the Disney version (being a VERY different character) is not the same, there’s no reason my guy can’t be. Ha Ha.
On a deeper level, what Nakoda takes from Kaa is what I like to describe as “directionless control.” Both are characters who seek to control other beings, and enjoy the power they have over their prey, toying with their “playthings” before consuming them. Both enjoy the sensation of being in control of their own little world. HOWEVER, in Kaa’s case, there is no greater cause behind all this: he is ruthless and ambitionless in what he does, recognizing no friends, and with seemingly no other desire than to fill his belly and enjoy everything that comes with that. Nakoda’s great issue is that he’s someone who very much lives in the moment; he doesn’t really know what he wants in life, nor how to achieve it: just this vague, nebulous concept of having control and gaining respect and recognition. He, himself, isn’t sure what to do with himself or his gifts.
Off the topic of the character, I just want to say this artwork is absolutely freaking spellbinding. Kaa looks magnificent, and Nakoda…I could comment on a LOT of things in the image that make it so great, but…can we just take some time to appreciate how positively THICC and STACKED this gluttonous hedonist is here? I never want to see Nako with curves ANY smaller than this EVER again, good Lord, they take one’s breath away…possibly literally, if he gets those pythons around somebody. He won’t even NEED the coils of his naga form then. >////>
Thank you for your contribution, Hoots! She's actually made one more image for this same series, which will be released in the near future. Look out for the rest of this series of pics starting tomorrow. ;)

Kokushibo - Less known facts
Headcanons
Requested by Anonymous
Masterlist
Tumblr media
Let us imagine a few more or less hypothetical facts about the impressive Upper Moon One. I did include a few manga spoilers and established facts to make things more interesting.
As portrayed in his final fight, he sees himself as a samurai until the very end, until he doubts himself upon seeing his terrifying ultimate form in the reflection in the blade of a sword. Therefore, I have a hard time believing that he kills women and children. I choose to believe that, just like Akaza, he only goes after men.
And maybe that is one of the reasons he does harbour some positive feelings toward Akaza.
They are both specialised in their respective martial arts and Kokushibo respects that type of commitment and professionalism. So, despite Akaza having already challenged him to a blood battle and doing so again, it has not managed to make Kokushibo hostile toward him.
Just like Akaza, he is loyal to Muzan and takes his quests seriously, displaying high level of demonic professionalism.
Unlike Akaza, he is more of a business partner to Muzan.
But going back to eating habits. He is known to absorb his victims and that is how I picture him roll. I simply cannot imagine him actually eating a human. It would be beneath him.
He goes after strong opponents. Rich, powerful, skilled in battle, predominantly egotistic, and ruthless people. He draws his immense strength from theirs, defeating countless of them through centuries.
He is known as the Hashira killer, as singlehandedly, he contributed to the highest loss of lives among their ranks in his long demonic career.
Now to another mystery: as a human, his eyes and hair were purple, right? But as a demon, it all turned red. Some kind of attempt to be more like Yoriichi, maybe?
I also do not believe, that the sole reason for him turning into a demon and becoming Kokushibo was to avoid dying prematurely as caused by the manifestation of the demon slayer mark. No, I believe he was also driven by his ambitions and a quest for power.
Overshadowed by his ultra-talented brother, in a sense, he achieved more in terms of status and position. Because, let's face it, it would take some serious leadership skills to remain the enforcer of the Twelve Kizuki for nearly five centuries.
So… he is a baddie (his human form, Michikatsu Tsugikuni) cos he left his wife and kids, right? Wrong... This was an arranged marriage and the wife did not care about him other than his status and the comforts he could provide. I believe he left her in a good financial situation, making sure both she and the children would be well looked after for the rest of their lives.
What about his love life? We all have fantasized about this male on numerous occasions, right? Well, I would say he does have a rich love life, but he is very secretive about it.
His ladies are predominantly human…yes, you heard me right. Most often wives of abusive and powerful husbands that he has dispatched to the afterlife, thus causing the ladies to have a deep running urge to express their gratitude to the exotic rescuer… How many does he have? Many… And wouldn’t we wish to be able to show our gratitude too….?
Haircare. He has so much hair, seriously… I think he spends a good hour brushing his hair every day. The recommended 100 brush strokes simply will not do. Make it like a 1000. There.
Body hair. This guy would be quite hairy in his human form. As a demon, Kokushibo possesses a fiery, dark aura. Hence, I kinda think he burns off his facial- and probably chest hair every morning. Would be quite cool to see him with a stubble or a hairy chest.
Last, but not least: his eyes. He can blink all of them independently, thus confusing his opponents and conversation partners alike.

ALTERNIAN CULTURE ANALYSIS: APATHY AS ANTITHESIS. AN ESSAY ON TROLL SOCIETY'S UNDERSTANDING OF EMOTIONS
listen to me. it only makes logical sense that trolls would have a strong understanding of the idea that the opposite of "love" is actually antipathy; having no strong feelings whatsoever. I know what you're saying, "but the quadrants have love and hate as a dichotomy, they clearly think of hate as love's antithesis-" no. wrong. the quadrants are obviously not representative of every emotion a troll can have, the quadrants are a concept of ROMANCE. see there's the keyword here. love and hate are both integral parts of this romance, they do not exist in opposition to each other as in one cancels out the other, they are two sides of the same coin. having quadrant feelings for someone regardless of alignment is indicative of caring about them, of being passionate about them. I know those words typically have purely positive connotations when used about human romantic understandings but disconnect that for a second. basically it comes down to a slightly warped version of "horseshoe theory" (where supposed opposites, in this case love and hate, are actually closer together than the middleground). I think this concept is firmly supported by canon, examples off the top of my head:
from the quadrants explanation;
Tumblr media
"The relationships each quadrant describes tend to be malleable, if not volatile,"
as stated with the pitched/flushed vacillation and the canon examples of pale/flushed, but also I think it is implied (though less so) that it applies to every quadrant and there are many ways unexplored in canon that every quadrant can bleed into another.
this famous line:
Tumblr media
"It should be noted that in troll language, the word for friend is exactly the same as the word for enemy."
this quote being on the page where equius pesters gamzee, citing that he does so with regularity and thus considers him a "friend" (but that's not the whole picture). this adds to the notion of these relationships not being considered opposite but stemming from the same root idea of investment in a person.
I think it's very interesting because I believe the authorial intentions of incorporating hate as an integral part of troll society and culture is meant to contribute to the idea of them as a cruel and violent society, and while that may have some truth for the ways in which individuals treat each other peer-to-peer in average situations I actually think the real overarching effect it has is trolls coming off as a more emotionally honest society at the cost of simplicity and peace.
the implications of hate being considered on equal terms with love to me paint an image of a society that encourages embracing all emotions to the fullest extent, a society that might even consider the worst thing you can be not as someone who is filled with hate but in fact someone who does not care at all. I'm reminded of the conversation between vriska and aradia in hivebent:
Tumblr media
vriska calling her a "miserable soulless witch" followed by repeating she hates her and "only regrets killing her cause it made her so BORING!!!!!!!!"
of course we also see plenty of times that "not giving a shit" is a thing that trolls are naturally inclined to do because you only have so much emotional resource to devote to a finite amount of things. moreover that alternia is a society that encourages emotional "balance", to embrace the love and the hate both with the same passion.
again as karkat rants to vriska also in hivebent:
Tumblr media
"A WELL BALANCED PERSON IS GOING TO HAVE A GOOD DISTRIBUTION BETWEEN HATE AND THE VARIOUS PITY HUMORS."
you may also recognize this conversation as the same one where karkat claims this (rather infamously imo):
Tumblr media
"PITY IS OF COURSE JUST THE TONED DOWN VERSION OF THE CENTRAL EMOTION, HATE."
(adding more to the "trolls believe hate and love come from the same emotional source" pile even if the manner of it is slightly off-center here)
and vriska's response to karkat's ranting:
Tumblr media
"Did you learn this crap from your awful romance movies?" "THEY'RE REALLY INTRIGUING SOCIOLOGICALLY."
I hope this presentation makes it clear but for the audience in the back: karkat's interpretation of emotional composition of trolls is most likely complete bullshit and not at all factual nor, in my opinion, should be taken as biological information about trolls. for that reason I believe the reference to humoral medicine is completely intentional, invoking the imagerey of bullshit pseudoscience. just in the same way as I don't think it would be reasonable to make any similar claim about the nature of human emotions (and anyone who does is trying to sell you something). in A6A615 dave even states that "both humans and trolls are emotionally versatile sentient beings that can feel many hells of different things".
what I'm mainly getting at here using these quotes is that there is a cultural precedent for the claims he is making. karkat did not spawn these ideas about emotions out of thin air or scientific research, he got them from watching romance films. which particularly, as presumably low-culture media in much the same fashion as our own, would in fact make them excellent case studies on the general cultural attitudes of the society that consumes them. and that society, as karkat observes, makes indications that a) emotions of hate and love stem from the same source and b) trolls ought to have a balance of negative and positive emotions, where apathy is considered more undesirable.
so what I mean to say from all these observations, my formal opinion: to trolls there can exist this nebulous feeling of being emotionally attachment to someone, to desire any kind of relationship with them. and with that the average troll has a far better understanding that the most devastating response possible is actually none at all; to be completely unaffected by them.
so what am I saying with all this? it is my idea that in troll culture, trolls have a concept of relationships and emotions that can exist as a nebulous idea of just being *passionate*, of caring about something or someone and the distinction between negative or positive is merely a nuance rather than an opposition, and the actual socially reviled opposition to this feeling is being apathetic.
for example a troll rejecting another for a particular desired quadrant is heartbreaking (or diamondbreaking, spadesbreaking etc), but as there exists a desire for connection generally by virtue of the desire at all, it would be less devastating and possibly could become just as fulfilling for the connection to exist as a different quadrant, even on the other side of red/black. the most devastating possible outcome of a rejection would be that of total apathy, of the idea that one inspires no passions, no emotions of any kind in a person.
and with that established now we can get into my ideas about how alternian media rating systems work, such as a troll equivalent to rotten tomatoes where movies/books/films etc are rated on 5 different scales (also possibly two different modified 3 scale versions) in addition to a simplified two-scale version where the measure of "good" is based on "how much did this work inspire emotional reactions in you vs how much did you not give any shit at all"- the cane hooks me by the neck and pulls me off stage

I enjoyed talking to you about it, and you said you have more to say, so... elaborate on your kfp 4 rewrite? I've been living off seeing people try and fix this movie, and there's not NEARLY enough variants around. I'd love to hear more, especially since I'm not super well-versed in the franchise lore, specifically Tai Lung as a character.
OOh In that case bestie allow me, as someone who's hyperfixated on the series off and on, to ramble. This might be long becuase I'm justing wingin it lol
So Tai Lung as a character is introduced as basically Shifu's first adopted child, an orphan he took in to train in Kung Fu with the specific intent of making him into the Dragon Warrior. Oogway denied this, causing Shifu to abandon Tai Lung, forcing him out and causing his turn to evil after everything he had trained for his entire life was taken away from him.
This series of events is why Tigress (also an orphan Shifu took in) is raised much stricter, with an emphasis on a lack of feeling.
This also is Shifu's main character arc; the transition from thinking that everything he's done has earned him control over the future but realizing he is at the whims of the universe no matter how much he try's to change things. This is extremely contradictory to how he was presented in KP4 where he's suddenly encouraging Po to make his exact mistakes in KP1 all over again, with even less effort.
Back to Tai Lung - His entire life was consumed with the acquisition of the Dragon Warrior scroll, and the appointment of Po was at odds with everything he had ever believed about the way the world worked - that raw power and skill was all that mattered. Po defeats him of course, and send him to the spirit world.
In the events of the third movie, the chi of all Kung Fu masters in the spirit world is stolen to be used by General Kai, and we can assume Tai Lung was included in that, which would have been another defeat that could have pushed him further from that ideal still. I haven't thought this aspect all too much, but with the way they present the spirit world one could assume some character change and growth from the years he spent there. I think this would contribute to a growing sense of questioning things, along with rage at failing.
This growing feeling would be brought to the surface when Tai Lung is summoned much closer to the beginning of the movie, in an opening scene taking place on the night of the blood moon, or whatever allows the spell to happen. Tai Lung is not the first to be summoned, and witnesses specifically General Kai get absorbed - similar to yours, with no body remaining. The sequence could be made to parallel Kai's own ability to take the chi of others and turn them into Jade figures, maybe leaving them transfigured into some kind of object. I'm picturing that lovely golden tree palanquin, maybe they become the jewels. The process is through a specific item with a single task.
More exploration of the Chameleon as a Sorcerer would be very important. In this scene, Tai Lung would be the audience POV witnessing what's happening. He is powerless in the moment, to his increased and endless frustration, but something unrelated happens that allows him to escape mid-absorption. We don't clearly see who or how the spell is happening, its obscured and more esoteric. The vibe is much darker, in a visible sense.
He is left powerless, unable to remember or do any kung fu, and is forced with very little choice in how to recover his power at all. He has had some ability to observe Po from the afterlife, and knows that he is now well established as the Dragon Warrior, and that he is unfortunately the most powerful person, and thus the one capable of defeating this new evil. He is reluctant, but could have some interaction that sets him on the path, like getting shoved aside by someone now much stronger than him and seeing some kind of poster about Po.
The Dragon Warrior would be more popular in my version, if only like a bit of a Mascot. This guy has saved the capital, he found the lost city of the Pandas, people may not know exactly who he is, but they know the Dragon Warrior. In the first movie, there was merchandising for the Furious Five, so there certainly would be for Po, too.
Cut to Po kicking butt, devolving into a montage of battles that he handles well and gladly, happy in his routine, until there's another transition where he's entering the Jade Palace. Shifu is noticeably older, Po has some new visual changes to his design/outfit the imply more experience and maturity. He regards Shifu with respect before relaxing into his casual, comedic self. Shifu has actually found peace, more resembling Oogway in the first film, his arc has finished and he is enjoying a peaceful life.
The Furious Five has dispersed to create their own schools or take on more permanent responsibilities elsewhere, going where they're needed. Po has put off settling down in any way, and is used to being alone on missions, seeking adventure. He finds it difficult to stay in one place for long now that his world has opened up. His dads have that scene where he's late, he's often far from town these days.
Shifu has been trying to get him to stick around for longer stretches, telling him to teach classes.
(If we consider supplementary media, Po has already had storylines about being kind of pushed into being a teacher, I recommend Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny, so while that's an aspect of this I don't want it to be the central theme of his arc over the movie.)
Shifu announces to Po that he wants to step down and is naming Po as his successor, and suddenly there's a looming future where he becomes the Master of the Jade Palace instead of the Dragon Warrior.
Po has some kind of imagination sequence about becoming something he isn't, settling down, no longer being a warrior.
Shifu snaps him back to reality and encourages him to oversee a new crop of students, illustrating how there's nothing else that needs to be done. Po oversees a scene with auditioning students. Shifu is absent. He is very bored, antsy for the thrill of adventure, but being forced to let others handle it instead. In a parallel to the first movie, Tai Lung bursts into the courtyard in the middle of the proceedings, causing a full response from the guards, all shaken because they're watching a ghost collapse to the ground. Po jumps at the opportunity for something he perceives as a task only he can accomplish.
{I'm not a great comedy writer, so please assume there's also jokes and light-hearted air to this lol}
Po confronts Tai Lung in private (jail? I'm unsure, I wasn't into how they did that) wondering what the heck is going on. Coming back from the spirit world is a thing that's been established in this world, so he wouldn't bee too shocked I don't think? He'd also be defensively cocky because he's beat this guy before, but seeing Tai Lung's actual state would defuse the tension. Po gains a feeling of sympathy for him.
Tai Lung tells him about a new, growing evil, and that no matter how much he hates it, if he wants to regain his power and return to the spirit world, he needs Po's help. They leave for Juniper City. The journey actually matters this time around, illustrating the growth of their connection, while the dynamic is similar to the journey in the film. Po is overly friendly in the eyes of the pissed off, exhausted Tai Lung, pushing his boundaries. Po is wired and a little stressed, deflecting with a manic energy. Tai Lung is jumpy and snaps often now that he feels powerless. Po offers to help him re-learn, but is quickly shot down, and so circumvents it by acting like he's casually "practicing" things. Eventually Tai Lung would have to ask a question and they would make progress forward. Tai Lung would have been clinging to the idea that he was the best and needed to get HIS power back, and that nothing Po did could be anywhere near as good, being very stubborn etc but Po would casually wear him down. They make genuine progress by the end of the sequence.
Po has a vision about the villain, and the consequences of their plans going unchecked during the last night. There is a moment where Tai Lung shows concern for Po - some kind of emotional connection. They're both awkward about it lol
When they approach the border of the city they have some kind of encounter with a citizen who gets terrified or something? Something that makes it so they have to lay very low, perhaps they're wanted, perhaps the rumor of the ghost of the formidable villain Tai Lung has been haunting the countryside. They end up in a situation where they are saved by Zhen - a fast-talking street thief of Juniper City. Also not Awkwafina lol
Tai Lung is suspicious of the fox, but Po sings the praises of helping others in need and putting good out into the world. He's still trying to be more eloquent with creating proverbs over the course of the movie, but doesn't notice saying decent ones when he isn't trying.
Zhen leads them to the underground crime syndicate place and listens incredulously as Po overshares about their goals. She says that if something like that was going down in Juniper City, she'd know about it! Tai Lung describes the place he remembers escaping from, its the palace (much less dramatic but still heavily fortified). Zhen tells them that they'll need her help to get in.
Other denizens of the underground avoid her and ignore Po, making a few scared reactions to Tai Lung. There is gossipy, nervous whispering. Time passes, Zhen has befriended Po with food and conversation. They even have a small, genuine moment of connection over something while Zhen explains their approach.
The group invades the castle.
Zhen is taken out early and encourages the others to go on without her.
They encounter the Chameleon, we get a reveal of them. I would redesign the Chameleon to be a more shadowy figure, literally, with a constantly shifting appearance in some way. A normal chameleon in this world would be able to shift colors but would otherwise look fairly simple. They are hurt by the world, and feel abandoned and isolated. There is emphasis on how their sorcery has changed them, physically and mentally. I'd also like them more androgynous as a personal choice. They are menacing and formidable, their own guards abandoning the fight as soon as magic kicks up. This is the big, flashy, gorgeous fight scene.
Tai Lung is incapacitated via sorcery. The ability to take any shape is shown here, and the transition is much more complete. Po faces the Chameleon on his own, and it's more of a draw than a defeat. He is thrown off by the mental aspect of recognizing the Masters, Chameleon fumbling with a lack of practice at these new powers. They experience joy at the intense power at their disposal. I think the Chameleon should also be a bit more mentally unstable. There's monologuing where we learn that The Chameleon's goal is to absorb Po, China's strongest warrior, and take over China. There's some kind of dialogue like,
"No Kung Fu Master could ever defeat me!"
Po gets trapped, and is saved by a self-sacrificial move from Tai Lung, forcing his escape through the floor.
Po is alone and ends up back in the underground, feeling like a failure as a leader, projecting the feeling on his running away from his responsibilities. There would be hints of his self-doubt and deflection prior.
The dads' storyline is fine, I love them, best pairing in the whole series tbh. I'd probably just shift it so they end up also in the underground, maybe feeding all the criminals haha
Po meets up with them there, feeling supported by their presence and encouragement, some kind of scene where they help him see his worth and continued potential. Po rises to the challenge of being a leader, rallying the criminals together, and having a comical scene where they all show off their various skills, and Po has to come up with a plan that uses their skills that aren't Kung Fu, the only option is to try something new.
They pull off an infiltration, the group emerging back into the throne/ritual room, there's combat, it's comical and creative. Po finds a restrained Zhen, and is happy to see her until she begins to lose her form - Zhen was always The Chameleon.
{Adored your idea for that so don't mind if I use some inspiration here!!}
A more chaotic fight ensues, everyone coming together to conquer the Chameleon with their unique gifts and new things they practiced that were explored prior. Po has a realization regarding how skills aren't exclusively useful in their original contexts.
The fight sequence ends with the item for the absorption being used against the Chameleon, while also releasing all of the previous victims, and restoring their powers. They also begin unsummoning, Tai Lung taking the item now containing all of the sorcerer magic with him into the Spirit World. Po and Tai Lung have a moment of mutual respect before he goes.
The chameleon isn't sent into the Spirit World, but is instead offered a place at the Jade Palace by Po, offering to help them learn something new.
Po would return to his responsibilities, but also give them his own unique flair!! Time would pass and you'd see The Chameleon/Zhen growing into the better person they didn't think they could be. We get a bright ending showing hope for the future.
~~~
Okay I feel batshit insane after spending like two solid hours on this??
2300+ words later and here I am lol I kept going back and revising to try and make the story beats and themeing consistent, but I haven't like, edited this with any consistency. So don't judge me if somethings don't quite make sense lol And god the pacing feels so off writing like this but hopefully it still makes sense????? Anyways. Thank you so much for asking what I would do, I had a blast thinking about this in detail!!
You said in your post that if Hans came back, he would only contribute to Anna’s development. But if Elsa and Anna are co-protagonists in Frozen 3, and Hans returns as the main villain, wouldn’t he have to effect both sisters and their development equally? Or would there need to be a separate co-villain for Elsa?
When it comes to Elsa and villains, her 'villain' is always associated with fear, rather than a person. Whether it's the fear from others or the fear she carries, this emotion is always her initial foil. We see in F2 she stands up to her grandfather and tells him that it is his fear that is the problem, not the Northuldra. Thus, now that Elsa has overcome fear, the next logical step for her development is to help others overcome it as well (at least, that's what I see the writers could be operating on a different level lol).
What does any of this have to do with Hans?
Well, if we go by the idea that Hans would be the next major villain in F3, then he would have to do something that causes fear - and Elsa would be the one to combat it. Basically, she would deal with Hans externally, going against his actions rather than him as a person. He makes Arendelle fear something? Elsa is the one to combat this fear. It's through Elsa's experience with fear that she would have to be the one to face it directly, to show that she has evolved as a character.
But then, what would Anna's purpose be?
Anna's story would be much more internal. She deals with Hans directly, overcoming any last remaining feelings of guilt for falling for Hans or feelings of uselessness he might awaken in her.
Let me simplify this with a wacky concept (because I know I can be cryptic or confusing sometimes lol) -
Let's say that Hans comes to Arendelle with the intention of defaming Anna as a ruler so he can become King (very cheesy haha). He tries to convince the people of Arendelle that the Northuldra are evil and that Anna is biased for them because of Iduna and Elsa, letting them do whatever they want and corrupting the Arendellian people. Elsa would spend most of her time showing the people of Arendelle that he's wrong, by bringing together the Northuldra and Arendellians and showing them that magic is not dangerous. Anna would be dealing with Hans directly, finding ways to beat him - while she's doing this, she's learning more about herself and dealing with any leftover feelings she may have about her competency or relationship with Hans.
Here, you have two stories playing out at once. Elsa's is external, helping others combat fear. Anna's is internal since she deals with personal feelings. This doesn't mean that Elsa just doesn't deal with Hans at all - obviously, she would have to face him, especially when supporting Anna - but Anna's development is more emotionally involved because of her history with him, and he hurt her the most.
So no - you wouldn't need another villain to be side by side with Hans to act as Elsa's foil. Hope I made any kind of sense haha.
“But Swift's greatest contribution to political thought in the narrower sense of the words, is his attack, especially in Part III, on what would now be called totalitarianism. He has an extraordinarily clear prevision of the spy-haunted ‘police State’, with its endless heresy-hunts and treason trials, all really designed to neutralize popular discontent by changing it into war hysteria. And one must remember that Swift is here inferring the whole from a quite small part, for the feeble governments of his own day did not give him illustrations ready-made. For example, there is the professor at the School of Political Projectors who ‘shewed me a large Paper of Instructions for discovering Plots and Conspiracies’, and who claimed that one can find people's secret thoughts by examining their excrement:
Because Men are never so serious, thoughtful, and intent, as when they are at Stool, which he found by frequent Experiment: for in such Conjunctures, when he used meerly as a trial to consider what was the best Way of murdering the King, his Ordure would have a tincture of Green; but quite different when he thought only of raising an Insurrection, or burning the Metropolis.
The professor and his theory are said to have been suggested to Swift by the — from our point of view — not particularly astonishing or disgusting fact that in a recent State trial some letters found in somebody's privy had been put in evidence. Later in the same chapter we seem to be positively in the middle of the Russian purges:
In the Kingdom of Tribnia, by the Natives called Langdon... the Bulk of the People consist, in a Manner, wholly of Discoverers, Witnesses, Informers, Accusers, Prosecutors, Evidences, Swearers.
... It is first agreed, and settled among them, what suspected Persons shall be accused of a Plot: Then, effectual Care is taken to secure all their Letters and Papers, and put the Owners in Chains. These papers are delivered to a Sett of Artists, very dexterous in finding out the mysterious Meanings of Words, Syllables, and Letters. ... Where this method fails, they have two others more effectual, which the Learned among them call Acrostics and Anagrams. First, they can decypher all initial Letters into political Meanings: Thus: N shall signify a Plot, B a Regiment of Horse, L a Fleet at Sea: Or, Secondly, by transposing the Letters of the Alphabet in any suspected Paper, they can lay open the deepest Designs of a discontented Party. So, for Example if I should say in a Letter to a Friend, Our Brother Tom has just got the Piles, a skilful Decypherer would discover that the same Letters, which compose that Sentence, may be analysed in the following Words: Resist — a Plot is brought Home — The Tour(3) And this is the anagrammatic method.
Other professors at the same school invent simplified languages, write books by machinery, educate their pupils by inscribing the lesson on a wafer and causing them to swallow it, or propose to abolish individuality altogether by cutting off part of the brain of one man and grafting it on to the head of another. There is something queerly familiar in the atmosphere of these chapters, because, mixed up with much fooling, there is a perception that one of the aims of totalitarianism is not merely to make sure that people will think the right thoughts, but actually to make them less conscious.
Then, again, Swift's account of the Leader who is usually to be found ruling over a tribe of Yahoos, and of the ‘favourite’ who acts first as a dirty-worker and later as a scapegoat, fits remarkably well into the pattern of our own times. But are we to infer from all this that Swift was first and foremost an enemy of tyranny and a champion of the free intelligence? No: his own views, so far as one can discern them, are not markedly liberal. No doubt he hates lords, kings, bishops, generals, ladies of fashion, orders, titles and flummery generally, but he does not seem to o think better of the common people than of their rulers, or to be in favour of increased social equality, or to be enthusiastic about representative institutions.”
-George Orwell, “Politics vs. Literature — An examination of Gulliver's travels” (1946)
...
i find it funny that “invent simplified languages, write books by machinery” are elements that orwel himself will make part of 1984. you could have thought that the inspiration for those would have been purely from comtemporary influence; but no, already in gulliver’s travels.
Okay, well.  I feel like it’s important to address what’s going on.  Seeing as I had my URL dropped pretty casually in a post when I’m still trying to figure out what’s happening, I’m going full disclosure.
TL;DR:  I’ve updated my rules to reflect what I’m about to discuss.  If you are familiar with what’s going on and don’t want to read what I have to say, then you will at least know why I have updated my rules.  If not, honestly, I think you’re the luckiest person on this earth  -  being unaware of what’s happening has got to be a blessing.  In saying that, it’s completely up to you on whether you want to read what’s ahead and determine the direction you want to take.
I will be mentioning names / URLs so I’m not robbing people of the full picture, and the overall length is going to be...  Long.  I’m ultimately looking for civility and understanding;  if you think this alone is too much, I understand.
I keep it in my rules that anything circulating drama in this community is okay for me in small doses, but I can only handle so much.
When I first returned back in early August last year, some of my mutuals will understand this is because of my physical health  -  since then, I’ve been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis Relapsing-Remitting.  To better explain, the mass production of the stress hormone (cortisol) can send my immune system into panic.  When that happens, it attacks the myelin sheath protecting my nerve cells on my central nervous system, which causes a variety of issues like lack of coordination & balance, altered sensation, nausea, vertigo...  And I can have flare-ups, or pseudo-attacks, where these symptoms persist.  Lately, the more stressed I’ve been, the more susceptible to migraines I’ve been.
But Tristan, you might ask, what has this got to do with anything?
I’ve mentioned that in my near-decade of Tumblr RP experience, I’ve never had my URL or my name dropped for anything, as far as I know.  I generally stay away from drama.  At the most, I go onto the blogs being talked about to gather information for myself and come to my own conclusion on the matter.  I would consider this reasonable;  it’s non-invasive, and it means I can spend my time observing the blogs in question.  I’m inclined to believe that the person I’m about to discuss would determine otherwise.
Recently, a new Bakugou RPer has found themselves on the scene;  you may recognise the URL as burnyoubastard, or his pen name, Rxgelord.  I’ve seen his rules.  I quickly dismissed him and went about my day  -  in the end, I don’t control what people write or don’t write.  I curate my dashboard to my personal experiences.
A few mutuals of mine were immediately put off by NSFW content from him, and have since pointed to their rules which often state not to follow if you write that content with canonical minors.  I have always been of the belief that fiction reflects reality  -  that in the end, there is always a piece of reality in fiction in some way, and what you write can easily reflect your morality, sense of being, and belief system.  I also understand that some people skim rules and can easily miss these things.  In the end, that’s not really my issue.
I do think writing NSFW of canonical minors is wrong, and as adults, we are able to define the consequence of doing such.  Kids are still exposed to the “wonders” of the internet at a young age.  It’s up to us  -  as we have a better grasp on action and consequence  -  to thus produce content that won’t further expose children to it.  We cannot control everything on the internet, but we can help by not contributing.
Unfortunately, with that, Rxgelord disagreed.  Okay, sure, you can disagree.  Again, this isn’t the ultimate issue that’s come with me watching his blog carefully.
My actual issue is his attitude.  I did not provoke him because I knew that all he wants is the attention and to thrive off of it;  in a way, I’m feeding into it by making this post, though I suppose the most glaring difference is that this is more for myself than anyone else.  And this is not intended to be a callout in any way  -  I am simply voicing my part while disclosing everything I’ve done that has or hasn’t warranted his attention.
I’ve seen the way he speaks and how he claims it’s because he’s a Bakugou kin.  I don’t really have an issue with kins or kinning, though I have my opinions on it, but I don’t like how Rxgelord uses this as an excuse for his behaviour.  Ah, that, and his stance as an “aggressive dom”, which he also reflects onto Bakugou when he writes.
Okay.  I am not an active part of the D/s community, but I understand the fundamentals;  a dom worships the ground their sub walks on and abide by their sub’s wishes.  There is mutual consent from both parties, and either party can withdraw that consent at any time.  A persona is not a 24/7 gig unless it’s with their partner and agreed upon, and doms are not inherently aggressive unless it’s what their specific sub wants.
I would think that in knowing these, unfollowing and blocking as well as asserting boundaries should be considered withdrawing consent  -  but from what I’ve observed, apparently this fundamental is lost on him.
Ultimately though, me watching his blog to keep observing his behaviour has warranted him dropping my URL in a post alongside bakgos, aka Hoops.
Hoops and I have been supporting each other for a few months now, and we’ve been friends for roughly the same time.  We even have an AU with our two Bakugous!  I typically don’t follow other Bakugou blogs on here because I often deal with that pesky thing called duplicate anxiety, but Hoops has been amazing to talk to and I’m glad we can call each other friends.  I admire a couple of other Bakugous from afar otherwise.
If you’ve seen the post I’m mentioning, it was of him clowning on our portrayals for being too soft.  It’s honestly a petty move, but hey, every portrayal is different, and if you’re not fond of our Bakugous, there is a block button...
I was only observing his blog to see what would happen and if what people were saying about him was true.  If he wants to take that as me camping on his blog and waiting for him to come back, okay.  That’s fine.  I don’t control what other people think of me either.  It only proves that my intuition about him was correct and I will not be associated with him  -  he’s since been blocked on this account, but if he’d like to go through the trouble of using other blogs to visit mine, I don’t mind either.  I’m putting this behind me.  I am moving on as soon as this is posted, because I’m ultimately disinterested and do not think he’s positively impacting the community.
If you intend to support Rxgelord / burnyoubastard while knowing his attitude, especially to people undeserving, as well as knowing his content (which he states clearly in his rules), feel free to unfollow or even hardblock me.  I have no qualms if you would prefer to support him over myself.  But thank you for at least taking the time to see what I had to say, and I appreciate that you’ve supported me for however long you’ve followed me.
In the end, what you need to do to curate your experience is completely up to you, and it is completely up to me to ensure that you feel comfortable in where you go.  I’m asserting this boundary not just for myself, but for others.
The Banking Crisis: More Kicking the Can
There were a ton of hot takes on the banking crisis over the last few days. I didn't feel like contributing to the cacaphony on Twitter because I was busy working with USV portfolio companies and also in Mexico City with Susan celebrating her birthday.
Before addressing some of the takes, let me succinctly state what happened. SVB had taken a large percentage of their assets and invested them in low-interest-rate long-duration bonds. As interest rates rose, the value of those bonds fell. Already back in November that was enough of a loss to wipe out all of SVB's equity. But you would only know that if you looked carefully at their SEC filings, because SVB kept reporting those bonds on "hold-to-maturity" basis (meaning at their full face value). That would have been fine if SVB kept having deposit inflows, but already in November they reported $3 billion in cash outflows in the prior quarter. And of course cash was flowing out because companies were able to put it in places where it yielded more (as well as startups just burning cash). Once the cash outflow accelerated, SVB had to start selling the bonds, at which point they had to realize the losses. This forced SVB to have to raise equity which they failed to do. When it became clear that a private raise wasn't happening their public equity sold off rapidly making a raise impossible and thus causing the bank to fail. This is a classic example of the old adage: "How do you go bankrupt? Slowly at first and then all at once."
With that as background now on to the hot takes
The SVB bank run was caused by VCs and could have been avoided if only VCs had stayed calm
That's like saying the sinking of the Titanic was caused by the iceberg and could have been avoided by everyone just bailing water using their coffee cups. The cause was senior management at SVB grossly mismananging the bank's assets (captain going full speed in waters that could contain icebergs). Once there was a certain momentum of withdrawals (the hull was breached), the only rational thing to do was to attempt to get to safety. Any one company or VC suggesting to keep funds there could have been completely steamrolled. Yes in some sense it is of course true that if everyone had stayed calm then this wouldn't have happened but this is a classic case of the prisoner's dilemma and one with a great many players. Saying after the fact that "look everyone came out fine, so why panic?" is 20-20 hindsight -- as I will remark below there were a lot of people arguing against making depositors whole.
2. The SVB bank run is the Fed's responsibility due to their fast raising of rates
This is another form of blaming the iceberg. The asset duration mismatch problem is foundational to banking and anyone running a bank should know it. Having a large percentage of assets in long-duration low-interest-rate fixed income instruments without hedging is madness, as it is premised on interest rates staying low for a long time and continuing to accumulate deposits. Now suppose you have made this mistake. What should you do if rates start to go up? Start selling your long duration bonds at the first sign of rate increases and raise equity immediately if needed. Instead of realizing losses early and accepting a lower equity value in a raise, SVB kept a fiction going for many months that ultimately lost everything.
3. Regulators are not to blame
One reason for industries to be regulated, is to make them safer. Aviation is a great example of this. The safety doesn't just benefit people flying, it also benefits companies because the industry can be much bigger when it is safe. The same goes for banking. You have to have a charter to be a bank and there are multiple bank regulators. Their primary job should be to ensure that depositors don't need to pour over bank financials to understand where it is safe to bank. If regulators had done their job here they would have intervened at SVB weeks if not months ago and forced an equity raise or sale of the bank before a panic could occur.
4. This crisis was an opportunity to stick it to tech
A lot people online and some in government saw this as an opportunity to punish tech companies as part of the overall tech backlash that's been going on for some time. This brought together some progressives with some right wing folks who both -- for different ideological reasons -- want to see tech punished. There was a "just let them burn" attitude, especially on Twitter. This was, however, never a real option because SVB is not the only bank with a bad balance sheet. Lots of regional and smaller banks are in similar situations. So the contagion risk was extremely high. The widespread sell-off in those bank stocks even after the announced backstopping of SVB underlines just how likely a broad meltdown would have been. It is extremely unfortunate that our banking system continues to be so fragile (more on that later) but that meant using this to punish tech only was never a realistic option.
5. Depositors should have taken a haircut
I have some sympathy for this argument. After all didn't people know that their deposits above $250K were not insured? Yes that's true in the abstract but when everyone is led to believe that banking is safe because it is regulated (see #3 above), then it would still come as a massive surprise to find out that deposits are not in fact safe. As always what matters is the difference between expectation and realization. If SVB depositors would take a haircut, then why would anyone leave their funds at a bank where they suspect they would be subject to a 5% haircut? There would have been a massive rush away from smaller banks to the behemoths like JP Morgan Chase.
6. The problem is now solved
The only thing that is solved is that we have likely avoided a wide set of bankruns. But it has been accomplished at the cost of applying a massive patch to the system by basically insuring all deposits. This leaves us with a terrible system: fully insured fractional reserve banking. I have been an advocate for full reserve banking as an alternative. This would let us use basic income as the money creation mechanism. In short the idea is that money would still enter the economy but it would do so through giving money to people directly instead of putting banks in charge of figuring out where money goes. The problem of course is that bank investors and bank management don't like this idea because they benefit so much from the existing system. So there will be fierce lobbying opposition to making such a fundamental change. I will write more posts about this in the future but one way to get the ball rolling is to issue new bank charters aggressively now for full reserve banks (sometimes called "narrow banks"). Many existing fintechs and some new ones could pick these charters up and provide interesting competition for the existing behemoths.
All of this is to say that this whole crisis is yet another example of how broken and held together by duct tape our existing systems are. That's why we are lurching from crisis to crisis. And yet we are not willing to try to fundamentally re-envision how things might work differently. Instead we are just kicking the can.
FF3 Talk: Stop! Time Time!
One of the more confusing aspects of the Final Fantasy III is the aspect of time: Whereas the Famicom version didn’t dwell too much on the time stop nature of the flood of darkness, in the remake it is a pivotal aspect of Xande’s character; His motive is to avoid death by freezing time.
So...how does it work?
(Note: My previous post on the Flood of Light is recommended reading).
First, history progress as it does until Noah dies. He gives his proteges gifts, with Xande getting the super special awesome prize of mortality.
Feeling snubbed, Xande goes to the Earth Crystal* and uses its power to trigger a flood of darkness. Y’see, the universe of FFIII is really big on balance, with the sun representing light and the earth representing Darkness (see a prior post I made regarding Desch, Doga, and Flood of Light shenanigans). By cutting off the world from the sun, Xande created an imbalance and basically removed the concept of time.
Tumblr media
At the same time, Kraken attacked the Water Crystal, forcing the Water Maidens to seal it. This had the effect of causing the world to flood with water.
* The remake scrubs this down to a slight implication, namely the crystal’s words. It is not clear why this occurred, though it might have to do with the Cloud of Darkness being the one to trigger the floating continent’s earthquake rather than Xande, like in the Famicom game.
Taking Flight
One of the major aspects that gets asked is: How did Cid and the four orphans make it to the Floating Continent and not get frozen in time?
Thinking it over, there are at least two possibilities:
Possibility A: Height
When the orphans reach the surface, it is flooded entirely. To give a sense of scale: The Crystal Tower is generally portrayed as the highest point of the world. During this section, you can find the tip of it peaking out of the water.
Tumblr media
Earlier, the party fought Medusa, who sabotaged the Tower of Owen’s reactor in an attempt to make the island fall to the surface. While the Famicom version simply has Desch say that the island will fall out of the sky, Desch says in the remake (and the Japanese seems to agree with this):
At this rate, the floating continent will be flung away from the sun... The negative effects on its inhabitants are unimaginable...
So, it would seem that The Floating Continent dodged the time stop by being in the sky when it happened.
There’s also Aria and Gramps, who are encountered on a boat that was wrecked, but still remains above the water. However, they haven’t aged at all. Despite, going off of Unei’s words and the general lack of knowledge of the surface, the world having gone through 1000 years of lost time.
And, of course, Cid’s Airship was in the air when the flood hit. Much like Aria and Gramps, the ship and its passengers, experienced much slower time progression, but did not seem to stop entirely.
Possibility B: The Crystals
The other possibility is simple ‘Chosen One’ logic: The Floating Continent was shielded from the time stop via its crystals, keeping the link between the earth and the sun open. There being two crystals is probably also why the flow of time is normal compared to the people that were on the surface.
As for the Warriors of Light...They’re Warriors of Light. Even Luneth finds it suspicious that all four of them happen to be orphans who end up traveling together.
The only oddity is Aria. Perhaps her status as a maiden to the Water Crystal granted her the same status as the Warriors of Light...?
In any case, both scenarios imply that Aria’s ship and Cid’s airship experienced a slower passage of time compared to the floating continent. Despite being asleep, Unei was in the Dream World and thus was unaffected (technically)
Misc
These are things I’ve mentioned before in other posts, but they kinda contribute to the confusion, so here they are:
- Warriors of Light’s ages: The orphans being 14 is a misconception: Their ages aren’t mentioned in-game and only two whose ages were given out are Arc (14, funnily enough) and Refia (15). Ingus would be 14 based on Cid’s story, but...
- Cid’s Story: Cid in the english version says that the incident happened 10 years ago, but the Japanese is more akin to “10+ years ago), from what I could tell, at least.
- Cid & Saronia: The remake implies Cid once worked for Saronia and is associated with the Nautilus. However, the english version makes a major error: The translator seemingly did not know at the time that the Ancient Ruin was an actual place. Thus, rather than being the genius inventor resurrecting an ancient airship, you get stuff like this:
Warning/head's up: please do not repost my art on other internet sights or use her for face claims.
I had drawn her attempting to use my actual face while making hair, so being said i don't feel all that comfortable allowing other's or others in general who are essentially planning to use my face without my knowledge and consent for a visual description of a character they have in mind while writing fanfics or reality shifting to a DR.
I could be very off on the design aspect of her pattern, or just wrong in general. Which is very understandable and all, since i was attempting to mimic a tiger shark pattern.
Anyways, I jumped the bandwagon of making a few na'vi characters and a avatar character.
This character i drew is meant to represent me in a way, I wasn't certain if i wanted to pick a more inland living na'vi like the omaticaya clan or another clan. So when avatar the way of water dropped and i seen the metkayina i fell in love all over again, so when i was making her i opted to go for a metkayina na'vi.
I did this bc i love the ocean, but i also respectfully fear the ocean as well since there's not much we know about it despite constantly exploring the water.
Adding onto this, i've seen one too many horror stories of ships and planes being lost at sea, watching those documentaries showing those ship wrecks have always put me on edge. It's always felt, unnatural and wrong in many ways.
Not really my best work, but again i tried my best given that i was inspired to go for stripes like a tiger shark which i likely failed at doing.
Doing a color palette was a pain, so was the pattern designing and brushes needed to do this.
This is my Metkayina Na'vi! Twenty years old, height wise she stands just a lil bit under ronals eye's if you want a comparison. Sad her bio parent's aren't alive, killing by sky people and left for dead. Luckily she was found and fostered by a free roam forest na'vi woman and a female avatar the na'vi woman claims as her sister. The na'vi woman acted as her mother while the avatar acted as her aunt, her biological mother has a brother who's still alive, just like his niece he bares a tiger shark looking pattern.
Her misfit family lives with the metkayina clan, the feathers behind her ears are inspired by her foster mom and aunt's ikran. At a early age she adored the ikran and wanted to bond with one herself, which she did when she had completed her ceremonies to be seen as a adult in the clan.
Her ikran is named Phoenix, a name idea given by her dream walker aunt that was very fitting for the lava colored looking ikran. Phoenix is very easily irritated by other na'vi, only exception's of Phoenix's temper and overall just being a menace to society is her rider, her rider's family and childern.
"My Phoenix aggressive? Nooo! She's a total sweetheart with my family and i!"
Now onwards, this lil lady is a free spirit. Likes marching to the beat of her own drum, so she is sort of like the village crazy lady in a sense.
Which is a given when her adult gaurdians are her uncle, a forest dwelling Na'vi acting as her mom and dreamwalker who had became one of the people having discarded her human body in favor of her avatar who now acts as an aunt.
Their little family traditions are weird, but their happy and enjoy their way of living with the clan.
She's a understanding and open minded woman, but she's not naive or stupid when her gut feeling kicks in regarding the select few sky people who stayed behind after having helped fight against destroying the tree of souls or those who have came back to Pandora once more she listen's to her instincts when it comes to those people.
Absolutely HATES the scent that clings to the avatars fresh out of the labs, the chemical smell is very awful and cause sneezing fits on occasions for her. Took many years for her aunt's chemical smelling scent to fade and become more natural and less assaulting on her senses.
I've yet figured out her role in the clan, but she is a adult in the eyes of the metkayina by traditios and ceremonies, thus marking her as someone that can contribute to the clan's welfare. Same with her tulkan spirit sister, ilu and skimwing. I have also yet to name or draw her uncle, foster mom and aunt as of yet so yeah. Writer block and art block's suck.
ON THE NAIL! - The Importance of a Three-Game Weekend
Tumblr media
The Nailers couldn’t earn a victory in two road games last weekend after a 4-1 loss in Indy followed by a 3-1 loss at Fort Wayne.  What did you see in those two games that contributed to those losses, and how can the Nailers use those lessons moving forward? While it would’ve been nice to earn some standings points this past weekend, sometimes you just run into a couple of goaltenders who have very strong games.  While the Nailers did everything they could over the weekend to put pressure on both the Fuel and the Komets, it just wasn’t enough.  The power play struggled once again, going a combined 0-for-11 in the two games.  When your man advantage group is getting that many chances and isn’t producing, your team will struggle to see much success on the ice. On Friday night at Indiana Farmers Coliseum, Wheeling struggled early, allowing Indy to earn a 2-0 lead before the end of the first period.  While the Nailers did come out and fought hard in the second period, including a literal flight that got Raivis Ansons ejected from the game, and a game misconduct penalty for Peter Laviolette, they simply couldn’t bring the deficit to less than two, with Cedric Desruisseaux scoring the lone Nailers goal on the night.  An empty net goal by Indy late in the game sealed the deal and sent Wheeling away with the loss, despite outshooting the Fuel on the night by 10 shots (28 to 18 for the game, including a 14-2 difference in the third period).  Usually, having such a discrepancy in shot total is better for the team with more shots on goal, but when you face a goalie who is seeing everything, there’s not much you can do on a night like that. Two nights later in Fort Wayne, the Nailers ran into yet another goalie who was strong between the pipes, aside from one good shot by Tanner Laderoute that allowed Wheeling to avoid getting shut out.  The Nailers managed to pepper Brett Brochu, the keeper for the Komets, with 43 shots on goal, easily their highest total of the season, but couldn’t manage to get more than the one shot in the second period into the Komets net.  Pair that with a Wheeling power play that went 0-for-6 on the night and a penalty kill that allowed two goals in four attempts and it resulted in another loss for the Nailers.  I give Wheeling a ton of credit for continuing to play as hard as they did, because when you sense a goaltender is on like Brochu was that night, it can be frustrating and cause your team to lose focus.  But I never got the sense like the Nailers got to that point, and they worked hard in every area of the game to try and come back, but it just wasn’t enough. I think the big thing to take away from last weekend is the importance of getting the specialty teams back on track.  After starting the season as hot as they did, the power play has fallen off considerably, going only 5-for-43 during the month of November thus far, for a success rate of 11.6%.  They only have one game this month (11/15 at Toledo) where they managed to score multiple power play goals in a game, and five games where they failed to capitalize on their man advantage at all.  That won’t be enough to keep Wheeling competitive the rest of the way.  For the Nailers to have a chance as the season moves on, that’s where they will need to focus on improving considerably. The Nailers came home for a Thanksgiving Eve tilt with Toledo, eventually earning a 4-2 victory over the Walleye.  How did Wheeling reverse their fortunes from the previous weekend and earn those two points? It’s always nice to get back on the winning track after getting two losses in a row, but to have that win come against Toledo just makes it that much more enjoyable.  As a long-time Thunderbirds/Nailers fan, getting a win against the Storm/Walleye franchise just feels right.  Add in the fact that Toledo currently leads the division and that we have beat them in both meetings thus far, and it just feels like maybe we have something to build off of moving forward. The Nailers managed to score first once again in a game this season, with Avery Winslow getting his first goal in his first professional game to give Wheeling a 1-0 lead, but yet again they failed to hold the lead, allowing Toledo to tie the game before the first intermission.  While that could’ve been frustrating and led to Wheeling taking their foot off the gas, the exact opposite happened, as the Nailers scored twice early in the second, including just 44 seconds into the period by David Jankowski (who then proceeded to score just over two minutes later), and a huge goal with less than a minute left in the period by Jarrett Lee to give Wheeling a 4-1 advantage after two. While the Walleye managed to score one halfway through the third, that’s all the closer they would come, with Wheeling earning the all important two points and keeping Toledo from gaining any.  The power play struggled again, going 0-for-2 in this game, but the penalty kill had an impressive showing, going perfect on three chances, including two back-to-back penalties in the second period against Laviolette.  If Wheeling can continue to see success against divisional opponents, especially those ahead of them in the standings, while keeping the other teams from getting points, it will go a long way to keeping Wheeling relevant as we get into the winter months and beyond. Sponsored by Main Street Bank The Nailers have a full schedule this weekend, beginning with a road game in Cincinnati on Friday afternoon followed by back-to-back home matchups with Iowa on Saturday and Sunday.  What do the Nailers need to do to maximize the points they earn over the weekend? This will be the Nailers' first time seeing Cincinnati since the first game of the year, a 4-1 Nailers victory in Cincy.  These two teams currently sit tied in the standings with identical 7-5-0-0 records, so one of these teams will find themselves with a slight advantage over the other after this game.  Playing this game at 1:35 in the afternoon the day after American Thanksgiving probably isn’t optimal, especially considering the team will have to travel earlier in the morning to get there, so hopefully the boys didn’t eat too much turkey and stuffing and can come out and take control of the game quickly.  I think this game could rely heavily on the play of the specialty teams, so getting that power play sorted should help them out considerably in this game. The Nailers will then return to the friendly confines of the Friendly City for their first two games this year against the Heartlanders, a team Wheeling had mixed results against last year.  Iowa has managed to reverse their fortunes from last year, when they were near the bottom of the standings for the entire league, and currently sit in second place in the division, two points ahead of Wheeling and Cincinnati.  While Iowa has played one more game than the Nailers have to this point in the season, they have very similar stats as Wheeling does, with their power play and penalty kill being only a couple percentage points better than Wheeling’s is.  The most apparent difference is in the net, where both goaltenders for the Heartlanders currently have goals-against averages slightly over 2.00 and save percentages well into the .900’s.  The Nailers may find themselves having issues scoring much in these two games, so getting plenty of traffic in front of the goalie and peppering him like they have recently can help them hopefully come away with two big wins this weekend. Although they are less than a month into the season, several changes have already happened to the roster due to injuries on teams above them requiring callups.  How has this affected the team so far and do you think this is a good or bad thing for the Nailers in relation to the rest of the year? Any time your team is in a developmental league and operating as a farm team for teams above you, there’s obviously a chance you’ll have to send your best players up at some point to help out those teams above you.  The number of injuries that have already happened, especially at the NHL level, necessitates movement throughout the organization, and will force Wheeling to make adjustments to their roster, potentially on a nightly basis. Dating back to the end of October, Taylor Gauthier, Jordan Frasca, Justin Addamo, Cedric Desruisseaux, and Raivis Ansons have all found themselves getting the chance to go up to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL.  While some of them have already found their way back to Wheeling, it’s definitely an adjustment when you’re losing guys who sit high on your scoring list and your top goaltender entering the season.  A few players who may not have expected to get a lot of playing time coming into the year were pressed into service and have played hard when given the chance to show they want to stay in the lineup longer. I personally think of this as a positive for the team.  You have players who deserve the chance to show what they have at a higher level getting that chance and learning from it what they need to do when they return to Wheeling.  You have players getting experience in Wheeling so that if they are pressed into service again later in the season, they will have this time to draw from to build on.  And you have a coaching staff seeing what they have in certain players that they may not have seen in-game action, letting them get a better feel for their entire roster and figure out how to properly use players on the ice.  While it can hurt to lose the production those players offer, it’s an opportunity for this franchise to be ready when or if it happens again this year.  I’d rather have it happen for the first time in the year earlier rather than when they’re making a push for the playoffs later. Saturday night’s game down at Wesbanco Arena against the Iowa Heartlanders is First Responders’ night, where the annual Guns and Hoses game will be played following the conclusion of the Nailers game.  What are your thoughts on this fantastic promotion? As someone whose best friend is a first responder, I know how great events like these are.  Micah Knisely has served as a Wheeling police officer, then Ohio County sheriff, and is now working for both the Wellsburg and Bethany police departments as a K-9 officer.  I’ve seen firsthand just how difficult of a job this is for these brave people, both the police and fire and I commend them greatly for all of the work they do to keep us safe from harm with what they do. Not only has Micah served our communities for many years, he has also played in the Guns and Hoses games in years past.  I’ve always really enjoyed getting the chance to see these public servants get the chance to kick back and enjoy playing a game, with bragging rights on the line for the next year.  Getting the chance to watch a Nailers game, then sticking around to watch these heroes go out there and play hard for our enjoyment, is my idea of a fantastic time.  I hope everyone comes out to honor these people, and sticks around to watch just how much fun they have out on the ice after the Nailers game is over. The Significance Of Psychosexual Disorders In Today’s Society
Tumblr media
Mankind has apparently always felt the need to be close and to communicate with other people.
One of the ways to connect with others is to do so sexually and a close, satisfying relationship is often considered as the essential factor in adults’ health, ability to adapt, happiness and sense of meaning in life.
When we are unable to find such relationships with our partners that comprise of trust, respect, understanding and communication; all aspects of our relationship are affected- especially how we feel in the bedroom.
The common problems partners face are female sexual interest/arousal disorder, male hypoactive sexual desire disorder, erectile disorder, female orgasmic disorder and substance-/medication-induced sexual dysfunction.
Although we’ve become more open about sex as a concept, we’ve not been able to talk about all aspects of it. The mindset of people has changed to view sex more positively, but not the problems or dysfunctions individuals face around it, one of them being psychosexual disorders.
This causes them to stay silent about their problems and not seek help for it. Not only this, but there is also a sense of unacceptance from clinicians as well as diagnosed patients are not taken seriously.
This may cause them to feel more guilt, shame, and stigma regarding their problems, which are totally normal and valid.
It is an increasing and real problem of our time.
The primary cause of psycho-sexual disorders are psychological disorders or dysfunctions such as depression, anxiety, mood disorders, relationship strains, history of sexual abuse and other cases of psychosis such as schizophrenia.
An unhealthy lifestyle and certain medication like anti-depressants are contributing factors as well.
With the increasing verbosity about the role of gender identity and the separation of gender and sex, young adults, adolescents and even children are facing gender dysphoria. (The DSM-5 defines gender dysphoria in adolescents and adults as a marked incongruence between one’s experienced/expressed gender and their assigned gender, lasting at least 6 months.)
This also leads to sexual dysfunctions, most of which are psychological in nature. Not being sure of one’s sexual orientation can also lead to issues. We need to keep in mind that all genders can be patients of these disorders and that even if you are in an exclusive, long-term relationship with someone, these disorders can still occur.
The typical age for the onset of sexual activity has decreased, thus making a wider age group aware and a patient of these disorders.
While reading about a case of a young adult with MDD and anxiety, I found out that due to the medication they were on, they had been unable to feel any arousal whatsoever and were unable to engage in sexually intimate acts with their partner as well. This caused a strain in their partnership as the cause of the problem went unidentified for a year or so.
Then, while they were in therapy one day, after much hesitation, they told their therapist about the loss of libido they had recently been experiencing. The therapist probed the person for more details and found that the onset of the problem had been around the same time as when they had started their medication.
The situation became crystal clear and through the correct intervention and support from their partner as well, they were able to experience libido and satisfy themselves and their partner.
Thus, we can see that these issues are more common than we think they are and have more triggers than known to the general population. Not only this,but the crippling lack of information among people also leaves them feeling confused, broken and even damaged.
Seeking correct help at the right time along with a caring and loving partner can significantly help in improving a patient’s condition.
The problem is as real as it is valid. We, as mental health advocates should not shy away in asking our clients about their physical, mental emotional and sexual health to ensure optimum treatment and recovery.
In a country like ours where we are still shy about these topics, it is the silence that enables most suffering. Breaking the stigma and creating forums where individuals feel safe and heard is of utmost importance.
“Theory is an unfortunate term. It suggests something that is unreal or unproven, and of little consequence except to those who like to read long winded books, engage in intellectual discussions and write long academic essays. At the end of the day, design’ is all about the visual, isn’t it?”
Without a consideration of these four (PEST0 areas then, yes, design is purely visual – and arguably completely irrelevant and self-serving. Far from asking ‘what’s the point of theory?’, we should be asking ‘what’s the point of design without an understanding of how it works?’
From “Visual communication from theory to practice Jonathan Baldwin/Lucienne Roberts.”
Honestly, I prefer theory over practical. Growing up in Nigeria, most of the graded work consists of research and theory rather than practice. It’s been difficult for me to implement this into my work as I’m focused on submitting substance at the end of the deadline rather than
The problem is, I’ve had difficulty maintaining my schedule to do appropriate research.
This is my overview of my projects this semester using the PEST.
CHSX Viscom -
The political - Transportation policies, Production policies, Sales policies, Taxes
The Social - This can help customers to feel a sense of empowerment.
The technological - When I was designing the site, I was looking at sustainable sites to get reference. Innocent drinks and bohoo had the saving energy toggle. This can indicate more energy is saved through the screen darkening. Innocent even took out some of it’s photos (bohoo being a fashion brand that’d be difficult for shoppers). (I know bohoo basically contributes to fast fashion, it was just a reference to how I could take the good aspects (we humans need to start focusing on the good even in the bad)).
The environmental - During this project, the idea was to build a sustainable brand. Sadly, every brand wants to be sustainable but the question is, is this to fit into a new trend or to actually make a change? In this case, the brand is making a little change with creating new sources of food. When you have to physically create or see your food grow, there’s also less inclination to waste. It can also spark aspiration to perform more sustainable activities. Thus, it can be said yes. It just depends on how much impact the brand actually does.
D and AD -
The political - Production policies. (I don’t know what really goes into it)
The social - The interactions between the audience is one that appreciates art and visuals.
The technological - The reason my output focused on a fantasy land is not for bias. It’s to show IMAX is more than showing how cool their tech is (It’s to show IMAX can produce the most stellar quality across all forms of film including 2D). In the sense of using 2D, I want viewers to focus on the environment and nature. Technology is cool but so is nature. If we focused more on that rather than tearing down the world, half of the environmental issues will be solved.
Visual Identity
The political - In general, I try to disengage from political views (they can be contradictory from other’s and causes heavy dispute. There’s corruption everywhere but some will deny it as they are gaining from it). I will still talk about my personal views and how I could’ve implemented into my visual identity. (I stray from those views being in my works too so that will change in the future.)
The Social - I won’t say I’m a feminist (feminism entails equality of the sexes. Unfortunately, knowing the biological composition of a ciswoman, I know it’s not the same and therefore, I strive for equity as women all around the globe suffer too much).
Also, in general, these problems cannot be solved by the underdogs (or the underprivileged). Only those who are privileged enough can finally decide it’s to stop being discriminatory.
There’s also being a Christian and trying to convey my belief. Coming from Nigeria, where it’s multi-religious country (mostly Christian, Islam and Traditional worshippers), I do believe people can believe in whatever they want. However, there’s so much anger against the church that it gets hard to get your point across.
The technological - Technology is slowly killing us. I do try not to utilize my phone when outside but I believe the Netflix documentary “The social dilemma”, talks so much about the unseen damage of AI. The issue with trying to reduce technology use-age is the best way to reach the target audience is through the Internet. In general, we tell ourselves we’ve developed as a world but there are too many issues caused from the net. This may be controversial but aside from the environmental issue, the Internet has manipulated us to be smaller than we are. We could be doing so much! To the point we aren’t seeing the bigger issues and having more polarizing ideas. In the past, people expect us from this time to have flying cars! Instead we have depression, anxiety, increased suicide rate, polarization, hyper individualism and the list goes on.
The environmental - Everyone says one of the ways to curb the environmental issues such as pollution is not buying from fast fashion and there are underpaid workers. (This is easier said than done when you have the financial means to purchase other clothes) This can’t be solved by simply not buying from fast fashion. The companies need to be held accountable and should find new sources of producing these materials. Recycled materials made to other clothes can help. The workers being underpaid, that’s a political issue and as stated before, those whom gain from it must be given a reckoning how detrimental this is.
