Chapter 9: Right on time.

Pairing : Stucky x Reader

Word count: 3.4k

Warnings: canon level violence, mentions of injuries, small (insignificant) characters deaths, threats against reader and Nat, implied mentions of SA but nothing stated specifically. if I missed something let me know.

A/N: I'm sorry this took so long but I really had a difficult time trying to find how to end this chapter. Anyways I hope you like it!!!

Ch. 8

Hurried steps echoed through the hallway getting closer to Tony’s lab.Tony and Steve had been going over everything they had on Miller before they talked to him. Steve looked up from the tablet in his hand waiting for whoever was running to appear at the door.

“What’s going on Rodriguez?” Steve asks, taking in the agent’s worried state.

“Captain, Mr. Stark Dr. Miller is demanding to speak with someone.”

“We’ll talk to him when we’re ready, not when he demands attention.”

“I know sir but he’s making threats.”

“Well he can’t do much from where he’s sitting so he can wait. Don’t give him attention.” Tony says pointing a screwdriver at the agent before starting to work on his helmet again.

“Normally I wouldn’t pay attention to him but he’s been threatening agents Y/L/N and Romanoff. I don’t like the things he’s saying.”

“What exactly did he say?”

“I won’t repeat what he said sir, but trust me if he got his hands on them.” The agent shudders at the thought.

That was enough to get Steve to walk out of the lab, no one threatened you or Nat and got away with it. Rodríguez right behind him.

“Hey, what are you going to do? Beat the shit out of him?” Tony asks as he catches up and blocks Steve’s path.

“Yes, he doesn’t get to threaten anyone from our team, especially them.”

“I know you feel the need to protect them, especially Y/N. And that’s exactly what he wants. To get you riled up and then use it against you. From what we’ve seen this guy is manipulative and he’s good at it. We aren’t going to play into his games.”

“Fuck.” Steve mutters under his breath, he knows it’s true.

“Rodriguez.”

“Sir?”

“Go back and keep an eye on him, if he says anything else, have F.R.I.D.A.Y inform us.”

“Will do, Cap.” Rodriguez says before heading down the hallways again.

“We can review the video from his cell, let’s go.”

Just like Rodriguez had said, Miller threatened to destroy both you and Nat for ruining his lab. They had to hand it to Rodriguez, being able to stand there as the promise of torture and worse spilled from Miller. Most of the time even looking straight into the camera with a sinister expression.

“Your presence is requested urgently at the holding cell.” F.R.I.D.A.Y announced.

Steve and Tony don’t waste any time leaving the lab, running into Bucky on their way out. He’s quick to follow both of them as they explain the situation.

“Is Agent Y/L/N in the compound?” Rodriguez asked.

“No, she went out. Why?”

“You should get a hold of her and tell her to come back.”

“Bucky-“

“Already on it.” With his phone already in his hand, starts calling you and getting no answer.

While Bucky tries to get a hold of you, Steve and Tony walk into the hall where the holding cells are. The rooms are large enough for a bed a shower, toilet, sink and a small table and chair. The walls painted an annoying shade of white and the wall that faces the hall along with the door are made of glass.

Miller was laying down without a care in the world, as if he hadn’t just vowed to rip you and Nat apart in as many ways possible.

Steve smacks the glass making Miller jump.

“Ah, there you are.” As he looks at both men. “I was wondering when you would show up.”

“I’m going to tell you this once. If you think you can threaten our team and get away with it you’re going to be highly disappointed.”

“But it’s not a threat, it's a warning, Captain. I just want them to be ready for what they will endure under my care. There is no running from me once I set my sights on someone. I will inflict so much pain that they will beg me to kill them. Then once I’m done I’m sure my men will take good care of them.”

“Have all the fun threatening our teammates now because the raft is a real bitch.” Tony speaks from behind Steve.

“You mean the one you sent half of them to because they didn’t agree with you? Don’t worry I’ll never see the inside of that place.” He smirks at the two men.

“Hate to disappoint but after you leave this place you’ll never see the outside world again. Sleep tight.”

Tony and Steve start walking out when Miller speaks up again.

“I think I will. Maybe I’ll even grab a drink with agent Y/L/N and her little friend before I get back to my work.”

His words were enough to make Steve’s blood run cold, he shouldn’t know that you’re out. While Tony turned back to talk to Miller again Steve headed out towards Bucky who was visibly frustrated while he kept trying to call you. He looks up when he hears footsteps and shakes his head at Steve. There is a sinking feeling in his chest and by the look on Bucky’s face he was feeling the same way.

“What did he say?”

Steve is reluctant to repeat what Miller said, sighing and resting his hands on his hips as he looks at Bucky. “We need to make sure that she and Adam are ok.”

He called one more time, and he was relieved when you did answer.

“Hey, Pinky I just wanted to ch-“

“Bucky.” You cut him off as you start to really worry. The SUVs closing the distance.

“What’s wrong, where are you?”

“Bucky we’re being followed I don’t think we’re gonna make it back to the compound.”

Hearing Bucky ask you that was enough to get Steve moving. He ran to grab his shield before heading down to the garage where he found Bucky on his bike and Sam with his wings on.

“She said she was being followed before the call was cut off. F.R.I.D.A.Y already has a location.” Bucky informs Steve as he hands him an earpiece.

“Ok let’s go. We get them back no matter what, understood?” Steve’s voice was firm and laced with authority but on the inside he was panicking and he could tell Bucky was too.

“Hey, we’ll get them back.” Sam reassured both men before flying off.

A groan escapes your lips as your eyes slowly start to open. Blood trickles down your forehead as the pounding in your head worsens when you try to move.

“You fucking touch her and I’ll kill you!”

You recognize Adam’s voice and you reach out to the seat next you finding it empty.

“Hey leave her the fuck alone.” You can hear him struggling against whoever is holding him back.

“Will you shut him the fuck up already.” someone says before their footsteps get closer. You can hear a struggle and Adam fighting against whoever is holding him before a car door is open and shut. You ignore the pain and with one movement the driver's side door is ripped off its hinges.

You get out of the and find yourself surrounded, agents in full gear and guns aimed right at you. Just beyond them you can see bystanders which limits your options about how to handle the situation.

“On your knees.” The man in front of you yells, his gun aimed at you. “Down now.”

“No.”

“Just make this easy for yourself and we won’t kill your friend over there.”

“Lies.” You tilt your head to the right in a quick motion. His neck snaps and he falls to the ground, prompting everyone around you to start shooting. With a movement of your hand the bullets stop mid air hitting the asphalt as you turn to look at all of them.

“I’ll give you one chance to let him go.”

“No can do princess,” you hear from behind you. “You either come with us and your friend lives or you resist and he dies.”

“You forgot the last option.” You say as you turn to look at the agent behind you. “I kill you all and he lives anyways.”

The agent lifts his hand signaling the driver and the SUV Adam is in drives away followed by two others.

“Have it your way.” They’re sent flying with a flick of your wrist and you start running in the direction the SUVs went. You’ve been after them for a few minutes weaving among the cars when you hear motorcycles behind you. You’re hoping it’s from civilians and not Hydra agents but relief washes over you when you hear Bucky call out to you.

He stops for just a second while you get on behind him. “There’s a comm in my pocket.” You reach in and grab the earpiece and set it in place.

“They took Adam.”

“What direction?”

“I don’t know anymore I lost them.”

“Don’t worry I’ll find them.” You hear Sam through the earpiece and suddenly you see him overhead. He waves at you before flying a head. Bucky begins to weave through traffic and your hold on him tightens as you rest your cheek against his back. His hand finds a way over yours and he gives it a quick squeeze to reassure you.

“On your left.” You hear Steve’s voice before you see him, you hadn’t even noticed he wasn’t far behind and you turn to look over at him. He gives you a small smile before turning his attention to the road and moving past you.

“They’re 10 miles ahead of you and they have back up.”

“How much back up?” Steve asks.

“Three additional armored SUVs. What’s our play?”

“If you get me close I can stop them.” You say.

“Hold on Pinky.” Bucky says over his shoulder as he picks up speed.

“Get me in front of them.”

“I already have police stopping traffic behind them.” Steve says over comms.

Closing the distance was quick work on the bikes. As you pass the cars you’d been chasing you sit up, your hand on Bucky’s back. You get up crouching and balancing yourself on the seat before jumping off the bike. Landing on your feet facing the oncoming vehicles, you hear the motorcycles get closer. Taking a deep breath you bring your hands up and focus on the task on hand. All 6 SUVs hover over the road slightly and you keep them there until you can’t hear them accelerate anymore. Another movement of your wrist they drop. Steve and Bucky stand behind you. Steve has his shield ready to go while Bucky has his gun raised and pointed towards the agents that are starting to get out of the SUVs.

Adam is being used as a shield, as if your abilities wouldn’t be able to work past him. There’s bruises and blood on his face but you’re not sure if it’s from the car being rammed into his or from the agents that are holding him. His glasses are missing and one of his eyes is swollen shut and that sparks pure rage in you.

“We’ll let him go if you come with us.” His words directed at you.

“Not an option. Let him go.” Steve says from your right.

While Bucky and Steve try to hold off on a fight so that they can get Adam to safety, you and Adam are having your own silent conversation. A little nod from him so you know he’s ok. A quick eyebrow raise from you so that he knows you’re getting ready to make a move, your eyes move from him to the floor so that he knows he needs to drop when you give him a signal. He nods so you know he understands.

“Sam,” you say in a low voice over comms.

“Where do you need me, Y/N?”

“Adam is going to drop to the floor and I need you to grab him before all hell breaks loose.”

“Copy that, when?”

You look over at the two super soldiers who are standing by and waiting to see what’s the first move. They’re trusting you and letting you lead.

“Now.” You say as you nod while looking at Adam, he throws himself to the floor while bullets begin to fly, some agents run towards you. Your hand shoots up and with a turn of your wrist the gun that was pointed at Adam is now useless. Sam swoops down his wings close in around him and Adam to protect both of them from the chaos that’s erupting all around.

“I’m going to give you an opening Sam.” You start fighting and using your abilities, giving Sam a chance to stand and grab Adam as he leaves the fight and get him to safety.

The sound of Steve’s Shield flying past you, and the sound of the plates in Bucky’s arm as he makes a fist makes you turn towards them. There are a few less agents surrounding you but still enough that you are outnumbered.

“Down now.” you tell them as you lift your hand again and they do as you say. The bullets flying in through the air stop, with another hand motion they fly back hitting their targets. Steve and Bucky stand quickly and you see Steve throw his shield, hitting something or rather someone behind you.

“Is everyone ok?” Bucky asks as he assesses the area, all agents having been neutralized.

“Yeah.” Both you and Steve say in unison. The sirens from cops cars can be heard getting closer.

“Hey guys,” Sam calls out through the comms.

“What is it Sam is Adam ok?”

“He’ll be fine, are you done there?”

“Yeah, the cops are here now. What’s going on?” Steve asks as he walks toward you and Bucky.

“You need to get to the compound now.”

Without wasting anymore time you get on the back of Bucky’s bike again while Steve gets on his.

The gate to the compound was ripped from its hinges. Tire marks ran through the grass straight to the main building and there were bullet casings discarded everywhere. The patrol around the area was doubled. The three of you rushed up to Tony’s lab. It was the only logical place to find him. Sam, Bruce and Tony stood in front of a screen watching security footage.

“What happened?”

“We were hit.” Sam informs you.

“But how? This place has the best security.”

“Apparently not.” Tony seethes.

“Tony.” Steve says his name in warning. You’ve already had enough to deal with and Steve knows you don’t need more stress.

“Someone managed to shut everything down and got to Miller. He’s free again.” Bruce tries to bring attention back to the issue.

Bucky quickly turned around and ushered you out of the room.

“What the fuck?” Bucky could see the rage burning in your eyes, he thought it was because he pushed you out of the room so he was ready for the argument. “I can’t believe Miller is gone. How the fuck does this even happen?”

Bucky exhales slowly, not sure of what to say to make you calm down slightly. You have all the right to be this pissed off.

“I know you’re upset but if we found him once we can find him again. Let me take you to the medbay so that they can clean you up.”

“That was a fluke. We weren’t looking for him. He fooled us into thinking he was being held against his will. Now that we know who he truly is, he’s going to be better at hiding.”

“I know. We’ll figure it out. But we need to get you checked out, can I take you down?”

“Can we check in on Adam first?” You realized for the first time how exhausted you felt and the pain that had taken hold of your entire body, you were just too tired to go back into the lab and deal with all of this.

“Whatever you want.”

Lucy had taken care of you, she was gentle and loving. That’s why you cared for her so much. Even when she was stern she had that motherly instinct to take care of you. When she was done cleaning your wounds she walked you to Adam’s room where you found Nat sitting by his bed. If it had been a different time you would have stayed but your whole body ached and the lack of sleep over the last two days was taking their toll on you. Lucy pushed you out of his room and promised she would be the one in charge of Adam’s care which was comforting and Nat promised to stay with him and get you if something happened.

A long warm shower somewhat helped relax your muscles. After what felt like forever you finally got out and got dressed in your most comfortable pajamas and laid down in your bed. As soon as you were comfortable, exhaustion consumed you and you were asleep within a few minutes.

Both Bucky and Steve had showered and changed although they knew sleeping wasn’t an option. Not when the man that had threatened you was out there free. And not when you had pushed them away. If this would have happened before everything changed they would have made sure you slept in one of their rooms just to keep an eye on you.

Steve opens his door when he hears a faint knock finding Bucky on the other side. He steps to the side to let Bucky in, knowing they’re both thinking the same thing.

“Everything alright?”

“We almost lost her tonight.” Bucky says as he leans against Steve’s desk. “We can’t let that happen again. Not while Miller is out there.”

“I know Buck. We’ll talk to her tomorrow morning.” Steve’s eyes narrow as he looks past Bucky to a book he had on his desk. Bucky stands straighter as he notices the items on Steve’s dresser are floating.

“Steve, are you seeing this?”

“What the fuck is going on?”

If it weren’t for their enhanced hearing they couldn’t have heard you calling out. There was a certain level of distress in your voice and that made them move closer to your room. They noticed how some of the potted plants were also hanging mid air. Bucky calls out your name and when there is no answer he opens it slowly. He can see you asleep on your bed, fighting against invisible straps holding you down. He looks over his shoulder to Steve who is just as concerned. Bucky looks back and notices the tears staining your cheeks as you call out for them. The anguish in your voice grips his heart like a vice, not even while sleeping could you escape everything you were going through.

“No please, don’t. Bucky… Steve?” you sob. “Please. Don’t leave me.”

Bucky is by your side in an instant, trying to wake you up. The nightmare you seem to be having doesn’t want to let you go. He moves your hair out of your face as he continues to call out to you. Your eyes snap open but you’re unsure of your surroundings, everything feels so real. You feel someone next to you and your hands move to grab them, Bucky’s eyes finding yours. His lips are moving but you can’t hear what he’s saying and then you see it. A dark figure comes up behind him so you raise your hand. For the first time since you’ve had your abilities an orange spark flies out of your fingertips, with more force the spark swirls around the intruder pushing him away from both of you. His large frame hitting the wall of your room before falling.

“Steve!” Bucky calls out.

“Oh my god.” you say still in a sleepy daze.

“I’m Ok.” Steve says as he gets up. “Really, I’m fine.”

Bucky turns back to you, his eyes finding yours but he sees that somehow you’re still out of it. Your eyes were wide and you kept looking between him and Steve silently questioning how they were there.

“You were gone.” you say as you try to ignore the lump in your throat. “They hurt you and the- and then you were gone.” tears start to fall freely.

“It’s ok, we’re right here they can’t hurt us.” Bucky says as he pulls you onto his lap. He looks at Steve over your shoulder. Steve sits down next to Bucky and runs his hand down from your shoulder to your hand and squeezes it to reassure you he’s there.

“Please don’t leave me. I can’t lose you, I can’t.”

“We aren’t going anywhere.” Steve silences your desperate pleas.

“You’ve got us.”

, I tried to calculate Maria's age with math. Tony inherited the company at 21, Howard died at 74. He was born in 1917 and Tony was born in 1970. Meaning he was 53 when Tony was born. In 1954 he creates Stark Expo-, and that blurb mentions he eventually married Maria. Meaning he was 37.

Now let's say for the sake of Maria getting things done that they married in 1960 and had 10 years of marriage before having Tony. Let's say she had him at 35. We can bump it later, but fives are nice even numbers as with this calculation we have it that she married Howard at 25 in 1960. So B:1945. That takes away the WW2 backdrop, but there's plenty to explore in the following years.

That doesn't give her as much time to get up to her own adventures as I thought. I don't know, my headcannon has her has her probably not getting married so young.

The thing is, 35 is sort of a peak year in fertility. Past that age chances of Downs and other problems increase. Howard is 53 at Tony's birth, and men's fertility begins to decrease at 40, and risk of miscarriage rises ECT.

This is supported in the comics with the difficultly they had in having Arno, and why Aliens got involved to have a healthy child.

And then Tony Armstrong Stark, born of a Hydra and Shield coupling, was then adopted by one of Sheilds founders, and raised by a brilliant inventor (and his brilliant wife) and

Howard is described with Genius intelligence ranked at 5, Tony is a super Genius at 6. The only higher intelligence tier is omniscient which is applied to things like gods and mutants from what I see. All of the Tony Starks are in superginius category. Even his AI mental one. Arno Stark has super Genius intelligence as his only ability (stuck on life support and really can't develop anything else) and that was because the Alien genetically engineered it before he was born.

On a slightly unrelated note, Shield is pretty much TAS 's heritage by this point.

So back to the age thing. Maria could have married Howard super young (gross). She could have have a very complicated and dangerous pregnancy (or several). Tony could be adopted or have had Alien intervention.

It's possible that they hadn't thought Maria could have kids and we're very surprised.

It's possible that Tony was a Miracle baby.

Somehow that all pales in comparison to the idea Howard and Maria going into Genetic engineering to have a healthy child ( and Hydra later stole that research too)

That would increase the Odds of being having a healthy Tony at older ages , especially if they use a surrogate. (Been around since 1985, but we can mess a bit with history in other world's if we need to) Perhaps Amanda Armstrong, in a twist, is Tony's Surrogate here

Red taught the Carbonell s to growl when someone picks them up.

Tony learned from his mother, who learned it from her father, who learned it from his uncle, and so forth.

It makes for an interesting Bonding moment when he is teaching his previously unknown brother Arno, and his previously Unknown niece Eleanor how to properly Growl

Emily is the daughter of Alexander and Jenna Michaels

Sam is the Son of Felix C and Isabella Hanson

Felix is the child of Lucas Cand Marcia Rodríguez

I should add siblings so cousians happen later.

So yah a lot of Maria and Carbonell backstory in general will be headcannoned.

And Stark too.

I headcannon, for instance that before Howard the Starks were Jewish, but he keeps that quiet for business opportunity purposes, and is overall not big on religion.

Maria is, a lot smarter then her stats say she is. She is exclent at math. The Carbonells are Capable of calculations, having a high enough percentage to be able to tell the future to an extent. And it involves math. Also guidance to handle it, and not spiral into crazy. She is fond of the Piano, and gambling, used to winning them too (it mentoned she deliberately lost a lot of money)

Red was a terrible enabler of this, by teaching her how to play cards, along with lessons of how to read the people playing them.

She seems to enable all of her Prinicpals in one way or another (such as teaching Tony to drive)

I should come up with a Carbonell family tree I think

I sort of headcannon Red as emotionally distant from her parents. Her Dad is on a submarine, and her mom is always working. You knew this. I picture the house as being clean and sort of empty looking, as all signs of life are stored away in it, the dishes washed after use and back in the cubbord. She wakes up there. She eats. Maybe she will come home and take out the GameCube and play pokemon collesum or something, but she would rather be elsewhere most days. It's MT who comes by and makes sure she's awake on school days, its her aunt and Uncles house that she invites people over to play smash at, and its never her mother she chatters to.

When her mother is home, the volume is to be kept down.

Meeting Tony, she sees Parales, and tries to be a good cousian as well as guard. Meeting and becoming friends with Maria, she internalized the lesson that good people are not nesscarly good parents.

Some people are just not cut out to be parents. Maria tries, she teaches Tony how to play Piano, teaches him a song about math, but he's still pretty lonely

Deaging characters

A young Red and Tony would conclude that they have been kidnapped. Or at least that's the scenario that would come to mind with bodyguard teen Red, and child Tony.

Probably with Tony being the one talking, as red is not talking at this time.

"Don't come any closer, or my bodyguard will shoot you." He signs non fatal main, and red points her gun at them, as they backup.

Upon escaping, they would conclude they ended up in the future, and that red possible ly TT d them. Then they find out his parents are dead and mourn.

Alone it would depend if Red recognized Tony. She could run away or Tony could hire her. Either way it would take negotiating fast.

Alone deaged Tony, would recognize Red, and probably enjoy being in the future.

Kid Desmond, might pull a Red and run away. (Kid Desmond and adult Red would be adorable though) despite not liking contact from most people, I she's not adverse to giving kids she trusts a piggy back ride. Or shoulder ride.

So It would never happen with a kid Natasha , but Tony, or Des if they asked for sure. Clint wouldn't ask, Steve might still have Serum, and Bruce would be baffled

Now gender swapped, has its own questions

Would the guys who have beards have them as girls too? Or is it more magical and auto pretty, and they have to put up with big boobs problems?

I want to try to throw some Quebec sleep into Reds language. I think we did talk about cussing before, but I also want Red/ Jaz to be useing little things more. Like bah, or perhaps saying C’est plate! (Boring!) Under their breath sometimes.

Or just slang like

Baise-moué l’ail. Literally means “kiss my garlic.” Clearly, this is a derivative of an English expression that asks you to kiss a certain part of the human anatomy.

Être tiguidou. Everything is just dandy. No problem here! A-Ok!

J’ai la langue à terre.Roughly translates to “my tongue is on the floor” which means either you are really hungry or tired. The downside to this expression is that you might need to elaborate further after each time you say it, which, all the more, delays the relief you are hoping to get from either hunger or exhaustion. This expression, just like the previous example, may have its roots from Classical French.

Lâche pas la patate! Literally, this translates to “don’t let go of the potato.” Yet another interesting expression, if you hear this from a French Canadian, he could be giving you encouragement not to back out of a daunting task, which is touching. But, most of the time, he is more likely threatening you not to chicken out of a bet, a dare, or a promise.

Especially for misunderstandings

Gosses. This, for sure, can be a very tricky word between Québec French and Metropolitan French. When in France, it will not be an issue if you say to someone “Ca va, les gosses?”in which you are just asking how their kids are doing. Gosses in Québec French however, has come to mean “testicles” for some reason. In short, the typical way of greeting someone’s kids in Metropolitan French may not elicit a pleasant response when spoken in Quebec.

Se laisser manger la laine sur le dos.Meaning, to “let someone eat the wool off your back” means that you are letting someone make a fool out of you or swindle you. I personally think that this is one of the more creative expressions from the Québec French variety.

Avoir mal aux cheveux. It roughly translates to “have a hair ache.” It is an expression used to describe an intense headache. One can only assume that it came from the fact that the headache is so severe that it even made the hair feel the pain.

Also I find it strange that nither Jasper nor Desmond found it strange that both his godmother and aunt apparently came to the Assassin's farm to pick him up.

Of course Desmond could have thought Jasper was lying, but that Jasper himself treats it nonchalantly Implies that this might have happened before. Do they have a tracker on him or something?

It could also be a that his godmother was planning to kill Thomas anyways, and met Eleanor was backing her up, untill she noticed Jasper.

It could be the possible Assassin\ Templar reds oblivious to in the cannon, but was mentioned as AU possible world's.

But still. Jasper just told Des, there were two other people you didn't know about there that night too, and he gave it like zero thought. I guess he was still processing that Jasper apparently followed the guy from Quebec to Black Rapids South Dakota. Which is pretty impressive admitibly

New upcoming period drama: Operación Barrio Inglés

Co-produced by RTVE with Onza (El Ministerio del Tiempo, Parot, Hernán) and the Andalusian production company Emociona Media, filming begins for Operación Barrio Inglés, a new intrigue drama for the TV channel La 1.

Spies, Nazis, British and a risky love story set in Huelva in 1940, a city where the conflicts of World War II are reproduced on a smaller scale.

Synopsis

World War II has just broken out.

Although Spain is "neutral" under Franco's dictatorship, Huelva is a strategic enclave to control the ships of both sides that cross the strait. In addition, it has an important British colony. For this reason, the Germans send members of the Secret Service to control what happens in the city, especially in the mines in the province of Huelva, owned by the English, and which provide Great Britain with ore for weapons and artillery.

In this way, Huelva becomes a veritable nest of spies from both sides, among whom the young Lucía is forced to move. She has just turned 25 and has been hired by an English mining company to work in their offices as a secretary.

There she meets the company's manager, Peter, an attractive Englishman with a dark past who drags Lucía into an adventure in which she will be forced to take sides. When you're in the middle of a war, being neutral is not an option.

Filming

Operation Barrio Inglés will have as its settings the old dock of the English mining company and the area of Tinto River and its open-pit mines, as well as the Bellavista neighborhood in the town of Minas de Riotinto, the port of Punta Umbría and the Mazagón beach in Huelva. In Sevilla, among other locations, it will be shot at the Monsalves Palace, and in other areas of the city and province, and also in different parts of Jerez de la Frontera.

About the mines and their location:

This is the Tinto river, its waters are red due to the high concentration of sulfur and iron oxides in the land (it happens the same with the red lagoon of Mazarrón's mines, Murcia), although it's duscussed if the mining activity has been increasing this characteristic, its water are very acid and are poluted with heavy metals.

The Tinto river (ancient name: Luxia) starts its flow in the Aracena Mountain Range and after 100 km joins the Odiel river (ancient name: Urium) at the height of the city of Huelva.

The mines have been exploited since pre-roman era, by Iberians and Tartessians, to obtein iron, copper, magnesium, silver and gold, which improved trading with the Phoenician, Carthaginian, and Greek colonies that were near to this site (in fact, the city of Huelva was founded by Phoenicians, and it was called Onuba), and eventually the Carthaginians took control of the mines after their expansion throughthe Iberian peninsula. Later, it became one of the most important mining areas of the Roman Empire.

By end of the 19th century, due to económico crisis the Spanish government sold several mines to English Companies, and one of them was the Riotinto mines, who were bought by the Rio Tinto Company Limited (RTC) in 1873, as they were looking for metals that were very demanded in the country due to its high industrialization (in contrast, in Spain the industrialization was scarce and the two main regions in which it was developed were Catalonia and Basque Country)

The RTC was the builder and owner of the railway line that connected the mines with the port of Huelva, where it built a mineral dock to facilitate the unloading and transport of the extracted material by sea to England.

In Riotinto, the luxurious and exclusive neighborhood of Bellavista was built for English personnel, it was a Victorian-style neighborhood that was endowed with tennis courts, golf courses, its own cemetery, a Social Club or even a Presbyterian church.

Huelva capital will also develop under the English influence. The numerous workshops and facilities built by the RTC that gave work to more than seven hundred workers, such as the railway station, changed the appearance of the city and contrasted with the rise of a new bourgeoisie of both Spaniards and foreigners who found themselves linked to the company. The power of the company became such in the city that civil buildings depended on the interests of the company.

Proof of this are the Reina Victoria neighborhood, as a garden city that welcomed part of its employees; the construction of Casa Colón, which ended up becoming the headquarters for the company's offices; the disappeared English Hospital; or the gigantic mineral pier located on the Odiel River. The English population introduced football, being the Huelva Football Club the first football team in Spain, founded in 1889.

In Punta Umbría, the British managers of the Rio Tinto Company Limited (RTC) erected rest areas for their employees. Since 1883 some constructions were carried out in the area, in wood and of the bungalow type, but it would not be until 1896 when the RTC was granted the possibility of establishing houses in this area, to which many RTC employees and their families went in summer to the beach through the Riotinto railway.

In 1943, the corpse of Glyndwr Michael, a Welsh homeless, disguised as a British Marine oficer called William Martin with information about a fake plan of the Allies to attack Greece was found drowned near the coast of Huelva, in Punta Umbría. This was part of the Operation Mincemeat to distract the Nazis and attack Sicily instead. Operation Mincemeat was a important plot in episode 3×02, Tiempo de Espías, from El Ministerio del tiempo. Well, although in the episode the original Operation is cancelled and a character named William Martin later takes the place of the original "William Martin", so the Operation success.

Years later, in 1954 the Riotinto mines returned to national property, under the CEMRT (Compañía Española de Minas de Río Tinto)
