A = Aftercare (What they’re like after sex)

My Top 10 Favorite Anime Villainesses by DarkChild316

Evil has never looked this good! Hello everyone and welcome to my list of my FAVORITE, not the best, but my favorite anime villainesses of all-time. So, I've had the luxury of watching and revisiting a lot of anime recently with everything that's been going on, and there’s been quite a few villainous ladies that have caught my eye, so I figured I should give it a go and do a list of My Favorite Anime Villainesses. So, with that said, here's my list:

#10. Diva (Blood+): This was one of the first anime I remember watching as a young kid, and this lovely lady easily caught my eye more than anyone else in the entire show. I can honestly say that I felt that Diva was more relatable than her sister Saya was (my opinion people, just saying) mostly due to her backstory and how she was kept locked away for most of her life while Saya was treated like a princess. I will admit that her rape and murder of Riku was shocking and it did piss me off a bit, but she ultimately won me over again with her treatment of her unborn children at the end when I got to see the caring side of her that I hadn't seen from her towards anyone else, including her own Chevaliers. Ultimately, Diva is one of my favorite tragic villains of all-time.

#9. Mugino Shizuri (A Certain Magical Index): Don't let the beautiful supermodel looks and gorgeous frame of this buxom beauty fool you. Mugino Shizuri is a woman who's looks are only matched by her ability to physically melt people's heads off. Add to that the fact that she's a total basket case who slowly devolved into a cold-blooded murderer who was willing to kill her own ITEM teammates for even the slightest betrayal, and you my friend have a recipe for a..."beautiful disaster" (that is an excellent pun, sit down somewhere!)

#8. Annie Leonhardt (Attack on Titan): Attack on Titan is a show I've recently started getting into and it's cast of characters really capture my imagination. One of the characters that really stands out to me is Annie, not just because she uses one of my favorite fighting styles in Muay Thai kickboxing (which she uses to devastating effect), but also in her introverted and isolated personality which serves as almost a dark mirror of Mikasa Ackerman. In a world full of terrifying monsters in human form, Annie sticks out as the most unsettling because of how coldly apathetic she remains to her individual actions as a double agent sent to wipe out humanity, and one can never truly tell if she might shake your hand or snap your neck.

#7. Rize Kamishiro (Tokyo Ghoul): Poor Kaneki, it really looked like he'd found the girl of his dreams when he met Rize Kamishiro. She was stunningly beautiful, mature, well-read, and seemed to be genuinely interested in him. Alas, he was soon to learn the harsh reality behind this beautiful face, as she lured him in, only to literally take a bite out of his heart (or neck, depending on how you want to look at it). As it turned out, Kaneki's 'dream girl' is actually a nightmarish ghoul with a ravenous taste for human flesh, and poor Kaneki was on the menu. If not for some steel beams falling on top of her, there likely wouldn't have been anything left of the poor guy.

#6. Raynare (Highschool DXD): Now take everything I just described about Rize and add just a touch of sadism, and you get this fallen angel beauty. Honestly, that's how I've always viewed Raynare's character, as a far more sadistic version of Rize Kamishiro, and when you look at then two, it's not hard to see the similarities between the two: Both manipulated and betrayed the respective male leads of their respective anime by posing as sweet, gentle, kind and shy young women; both are incredibly sadistic, manipulative, and ruthless, and most of all, both continued to haunt Kanenki and Issei even after their deaths due to their betrayals. Although I'd say that Raynare is just a bit more psychotic and sadistic than Rize is, which puts her slightly higher on my list. Also, major bonus points for Rayare's light-based abilities that serve as a great foil to her sinister personality.

#5. Junko Enoshima (Danganronpa): OH I FUCKING LOVE THIS WOMAN! If ever there was a title for "craziest bitch on the block", Junko would take that title and then laugh about it in your face. What other woman would be crazy enough to set up a series of sadistic killing games that would make Jigsaw stand up in appreciation under the guise of a sadistic teddy bear, murder their own twin sister, and even axe off THEMSELVES when their plans go awry! Yeah, Junko is crazier than your average bird, but damn if that doesn't make her all the more appealing, doesn't hurt that she's hot as hell either!

#4. Lust (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood): Well it's really all right there in her name isn't it! One of the Seven Homunculi, an artificially-created human being infused with a Philosopher's Stone, Lust encapsulates everything that is both alluring and dangerous about her given Sin. Her sensual voice, body, and nature can bring any man to their knees, traits she's more than willing to use to further Father and the Homunculus's goals. And when her target's usefulness is done, they usually find themselves on the receiving end of one of Lust's razor-sharp nails. Unfortunately for her, as hot as she may be, Roy Mustang's flames were even hotter!!!

#3. Cinder Fall (RWBY): When I first started watching RWBY, Cinder was one of the characters that caught my attention almost immediately. The way she played the role of being the ruthless master manipulator just enthralled me like I'd never seen before. I'd seen great manipulators in anime before, but Cinder had the feel of almost an expert chess player, manipulating the pieces around her, and always staying two steps ahead of everyone else in her attempts to checkmate the King. But wat truly sold me on Cinder as a detestable villain, was two incidents in particular, and I think every RWBY fan knows what I'm talking about: Her murder of Pyrrha Nikos, and her attempted murder of Weiss Schnee. Those two incidents to me added a touch of sadism to her character and put her over the top as a truly great villain in my eyes. Oh, and it also helps that she's a total pyromaniac with Fall Maiden powers that can roast you like a Thanksgiving turkey. Yeah, definitely NOT the kind of woman you want to get on her bad side.

#2. Medusa Gorgon (Soul Eater): Ah yes, Medusa! The only woman who could make Orochimaru lust for her (and I'll fight anyone who disagrees with that statement!) But in all seriousness, I can see why people often compare Medusa to Orochimaru as the similarities between the two are incredibly stunning: Both have an affinity for snakes; both are genius scientists with a total lack of care for human life; Both have shown an ability to jump from one body to another, like a snake shedding its skin; and both have shown the ability to manipulate almost anyone to their cause. What makes Medusa even more unique however is her treatment of her own child Crona, treating Crona as a mindless killer and never showing any real form of love or emotion towards her own child except when that child can help further her own twisted desires. Yeah, Medusa definitely won't be winning any "Parent of the Year" awards.

#1. Esdeath (Akame ga Kill): Admit it! You KNEW it was gonna be this woman didn't you, c'mon now! Anyone doing a list of their favorite anime villainesses that DOESN'T make Esdeath #1 is just wrong! She's got everything you could ever want from a great villainess: She's a total sadist with a Social Darwinist personality and a total lack of empathy for humankind. She's incredibly powerful with her mastery over ice thanks to her Teigu "Demon's Extract"; Plus she's a woman who lives for her love of conflict, and her love of Tatsumi (lucky bastard!) Add to that the fact that she registers a perfect 10 in sexiness, and you've got a recipe for my favorite female anime villain!

In between the tall bookshelves, the sound of air being sliced echoes, before several thuds swiftly follow.

Booted feet confidently walk towards the interrupter of the sweet silence, stopping in front of a green-haired man whose ridiculously long coat is pinned to the ground by two of the many fatally-sharp tools he’d barely missed.

He looks up to find a bespectacled brunette in a frilly cream-colored dress and white apron staring him down, her arms crossed and one eyebrow raised in amusement. “Ah!” he exclaims, pointing to her. “I told you to hide once someone sets the trap off!”

She giggles. “Mm-hmm, you sure did.” The girl then treads through the maze of slicers, choppers, and dicers stuck on the cement floor. “But I know what your footsteps sound like.” She reaches the free space between two knives dangerously close to the boy’s feet. She looks up and pokes his chest. “So I didn’t have to.”

“Aww, Layla-chan, that makes me blush.” His gaze on her finger raises to lock eyes with her.

As if the weight of the moment washes over her right then, Layla’s smile turns watery. “Lubba!” she whines before tackling him in a hug – eliciting a pained groan from the boy – and buries her face on his shoulder.

A soft smile overtakes Lubbock’s expression. He smooths her hair down and wraps his arms around her. “Yeah, I came back safe.”

Suddenly, Layla grips the collar of his coat tight and looks up at him. “Is that right?”

The coat slides off his shoulders. Lubbock’s eyes trail the girl’s small, warm hands snaking up his arms and then in his sleeves to reach his biceps, shoulders, underarms. Her hands then lift from his progressively-warm skin for a short moment before diving under his shirt to move up and down, left and right his torso.

He could only gulp. This body check is nothing new, but damn it, he could never get used to it.

After what seemed like hours, Layla steps back and dusts off her hands. “Okay. You’re clean.”

You try hard to keep a straight face every time, but I know… Lubbock smirks. “How can you be sure? You didn’t check the lower ha-“

“Oh, would you look at the time!” Layla spins on her heel and quickly steps over the knives to make her escape. He makes that comeback every time, and she never fails to blush at it. “It’s time for you to actually do some work around here!”

He snickers, bending down to remove the knives pinning his beloved coat. “Did she forget I’m technically her boss?”

“I can’t take a boss who gets caught in his own traps seriously,” she replies, her voice traveling among the bookshelves.

Lubbock whines childishly. “Could you at least help me out, though?”

“You’re on your own. I can’t see your strings, so I might set off the one holding that hatchet up there.”

Lubbock looks up at the deadly weapon remaining suspended right above him and laughs nervously. “So that’s what’s missing in here.”

“To think that you’d get killed not because of a mission, but because of your own traps.” A now-calm Layla pops back out of a nearby bookshelf, dramatically leaning on it and placing a hand on her forehead. “Oh, the tragedy!”

“Okay, cutie.” Lubbock chuckles as he drops the last of the knives in the pile beside him. He stands up and holds out his coat to her. “May I?”

Layla exchanges it with the neatly-folded apron she’d brought.

“How about you just help me reinstall these instead?”

“And let you stand under the ladder and look up my skirt?” Layla scoffs. “No, thanks.”

“It’s fair trade.” Lubbock grins suggestively as he ties his apron.

“What are you talking about? The only one who’d benefit from that is you again.”

“Don’t tell me you don’t feel anything when you check me.”

“Of course I do. I could feel your scrawny body.”

“Wha-? I may slack off in training, but I’m fairly muscular!” With one smooth movement, he closes their distance and gently captures her chin. “Proof? You can’t get your hands off me.”

She raises her arms to push him away, but that would mean touching his chest or shoulders. She quirks up an eyebrow upon seeing him smirk. “Lubba,” Layla says, dropping her hands back down to her sides and merely tilting her head away to break out of his hold. “Customers would be coming in soon. Do we really want them to see all these incriminating evidence of our ties to people whom society sees as dangerous?”

Lubbock laughs and fondly pokes her cheek. “Okay. I get it, boss.”

Since then, the whirring of strings from Cross Tail is the only one that resounds through the book shop. When Lubbock finally looks up at the girl, he finds her already sitting beside him on the cold floor, which he assumes is a subconscious decision.

The various ways the teenage boy could use his Imperial Arm never ceases to amaze Layla, so she takes every chance she could get to watch him tinker with it.

But behind her awed expression, Lubbock could discern hints of longing. So instead of jokingly chiding her for not returning to her post, he instead says, “Let’s go home together tonight.”

Layla startles at his voice. But as his words register, she instantly brightens up. “Okay!”

Now, Night Raid’s base lies 10 kilometers from the capital. Being a non-fighter, and therefore having lower stamina than the others, Layla dreads having to walk that far, especially after a long day of work. Until, of course, the oh-so-kind Lubbock would offer to carry her on piggyback the rest of the way. That’s what she delights in.

At the entrance, a young man carrying a Danger Beast he’d hunted stops to take a second look at them, his eyes growing as wide as dinner plates by the minute.

Confused, Lubbock raises a hand in a cautious wave. “Yo, Tatsumi.”

Tatsumi warily points to the girl still hanging off the green-haired guy’s back.

“Ah, Layla-chan, we’re here,” Lubbock softly says, thinking the girl is already asleep. But his lips almost brush her cheek when he turns to look at her.

A wide-awake Layla had been staring at Tatsumi since she’d spotted him from a distance, and so focused was she on the boy that Lubbock had to crouch down so her feet would touch the ground. Her gaze still fixed on Tatsumi, she bounds over to him and bows in greeting. “Hello, Tatsumi! I’m Layla!” She smiles and turns to the green-haired man stopping to stand beside her. “Lubba’s wife.”

Tatsumi looks at them back and forth before falling on his knees. “Master Lubba!” he cries, holding a thumbs-up. “Good job!”

Lubbock gives him a smug grin and wraps an arm around Layla’s shoulders. “We’ve been going strong for two years now, might I add.”

Suddenly, Tatsumi shoots up and points an accusing finger at Lubbock. “But why do you still try to peek on Neesan and talk perversely about girls?”

Layla gasps. “What? Do you mean… he still does that?”

“W-w-w-what are you saying, Tatsumi?” Lubbock’s voice rises in panic.

“Lubba, I…” Layla’s voice breaks. Then she covers her face and starts sobbing.

Lubbock stands behind the girl to rub her shoulders, laughing nervously. “Layla-chan, you don’t seriously believe this guy, right?” He glares at Tatsumi as he continues, “You trust me, your lifetime companion, more than a boy you just met, don’t you?”

Tatsumi splutters. “I… I didn’t mean to… I-“

“Don’t worry, Tatsumi.” A girl with flowing jet-black hair suddenly appears, with a Danger Beast even larger than Tatsumi’s catch on her back. “That’s just their cover in the Capital.”

Layla raises her face, no signs of crying in her expression at all. “Aww, Akame-chan, you’re no fun.”

Lubbock laughs. “Right? You’re really so gullible, Tatsumi.”

With a roar, Tatsumi rushes forward, barely missing Layla’s face, to grab Lubbock by the collar. The (fortunately) dead Danger Beast he’d caught lies forgotten on the ground. “You really get on my nerves sometimes!”

“Not my fault you’re so naïve!”

The front door opens to reveal a well-endowed blonde. “Oi,” she shouts, “what’s with all the noi- oh! Layla!”

“Neesan!” Layla runs towards her, arms outstretched.

The older woman squeals and meets her halfway. “I missed you so much!”

“Leone,” Akame says, “you’ve been together the other day.”

“But that was for only a short while! Lubba keeps her to himself a lot, but doesn’t even take care of her!” Leone then ruffles Layla’s hair, ruining her half-ponytail.

Layla looks up. “That’s not entirely tr—“

“It must have been lonely, huh?” Leone cuts Layla off by pressing the younger girl’s face deeper into her chest.

Tatsumi and Lubbock stop arguing to watch.

“So jealous…” Lubbock mutters.

Tatsumi does not say anything, but a blush tinges his cheeks.

Lubbock then turns to him to take hold of his collar too. “Oh, of course you’re not jealous because Neesan actually enjoys suffocating you with those boobs!”

Layla finally manages to break away from Leone and looks at the boys. “Shouldn’t we break them up?”

Leone shrugs. “Nah, let them be.” She then tugs Layla into the base. “Hurry and come inside instead! Boss arrived yesterday, so you should greet her next!”

The Boss. Layla purses her lips as she begins to get dragged along the hallways. So that explains why Lubbock had to stay an extra day in the base.

Leone suddenly slows down and matches her pace. “Hey,” she speaks softly now, “we all didn’t expect her to return yesterday. I’m sure Lubba didn’t mean to leave you alone for a while longer. You know how things work.”

“Huh? Oh no!” Layla laughs. “Come on, that doesn’t bother me at all! The longer I stay in the Capital, the more information I could gather, right? It’s just perfect that Boss is here. I could be useful right away.”

Leone nudges her shoulder. “You know you don’t have to hide it from me.”

“I’m not hiding anything, Neesan.”

Information is essential in this line of work. And this is where Layla comes in handy. Despite choosing not to be an assassin herself – and because Lubbock is strongly opposed to the idea – she works as an informant for Night Raid. Being able to stay in the capital for longer periods of time allows her to collect updates and secrets the group could use. Though it feels nice to be useful, Layla’s information would also mean more dangerous missions for everyone. For Lubbock.

Sometimes, though, even if she doesn’t bring home information enough to formulate a mission, Najenda herself would get requests from the Revolutionary Army, and those are always considered urgent.

“Layla,” Lubbock softly calls, his reflection appearing behind the brunette standing in front of the window.

Layla stops biting her thumbnail and turns around in an instant. “Lubba.” She pouts.

“You know I can’t have you traveling alone to the Capital. Take a day off from work today.”

“And you know I am not worried about that.”

Lubbock smiles and opens his arms to invite her in, and she obliges. A promise to come back home is never uttered, because no one ever knows how a mission would turn out. Instead, he always says, “I’ll try my best.” And then he kisses the top of her head.

Layla looks up to smile back, and with her usual reply of, “Please,” she’d kiss his cheek.

As Lubbock follows Bulat, Sheele, and Mine out of the base, Layla watches them until she can’t see them anymore. When she turns around, she spies brown hair peeking out of a wall.

She giggles. “Come on out, Tatsumi.”

Tatsumi steps away from his hiding spot and laughs nervously.

Layla raises an eyebrow. “So?”

“Huh?”

“You want to ask something, don’t you?”

“Ah, well… you kind of confused me just now. Are you and Lubba actually…?”

“Oh, no, no, no!” Layla waves her hands in front of her. “We’re just… um, really close friends.”

Tatsumi blinks. “I guess relationships in the Capital are really complicated.”

Oh, right. He’s not from the city. “Well, to put things simply, he basically saved my life. It just formed some sort of special attachment between us, but not in that way, okay?”

Tatsumi only frowns in thought.

“Besides…” she mutters, trailing off.

“Besides…?” Tatsumi prompts.

Layla startles, not expecting him to still be listening. “Nothing! You should go back in now, or else Akame-chan would actually kill you this time!”

At this, Tatsumi throws her a panicked thanks and rushes away.

Layla sighs and slides down the wall. “Besides, he’s already so deep in love with someone else.”

Why ‘Guilty Crown’ Remains To Be My Favorite Anime

HELL YES THIS POST IS DEDICATED TO GUILTY CROWN.

And before you tell me how many flaws this anime have and how unsatisfying the ending was, I want to remind you that this is an appreciation post for this underrated anime. No hate comment could change my mind since I’ve watched it back on 2016.

Shall we go back to the main point now?

PLOT. Alright. Like any other animes, Guilty Crown had its flaws too. However, I’m sure you can’t deny that a character who started as a coward (in the beginning of the anime itself) obtaning a ‘Power of Kings’ is something. And it’s not your usual power that you can match on other abilities of our favorite hollywood heroes and comics champions. His power is basically drawing people’s hearts out and materializing them into voids which can be useful weapons and necessities. And these voids reflect its owners’ fears, personality, and character.

***VOIDS. It’s like, “what will your heart look like if it was an object?” Personally, I’m in love with Inori’s beautiful Singer’s Sword while the explanation behind Shu’s always breaks me. They didn’t specifically elaborate why Inori’s is a sword but let’s remind ourselves that Inori was originally created as a vessel to contain Mana’s mind. So, I guess the Singer’s Sword is also an animation of Mana’s heart too.

What I find interesting about the Singer’s Sword is that it contains strong abilities such as being a protective barrier for its carrier and as the sharpest longsword. I can’t help but always fangirl on the first episode wherein the sword is too powerful that it could create a huge flash of light up to the skies. There’s also one in the fourth episode wherein it can destroy anything it will touch onto, regardless of the direction of its attack.

ANIMATION. I’m not that of an expert, technically speaking. You may hate or bash this anime you want but dude, it’s one of the prettiest animations you could ever see. I don’t know if it’s just me but the waves coming from anyone who possesses the power of the Void Genome and Inori when she’s singing are like the black transparent tapes on cassettes. The colors are wonderfully chosen too as they’re not flashy or painful to watch.

If I’m going to choose my favorite episodes that contain the best animations of it, I would choose the first, second, fourth, nineteenth, and the last episode. The place where there is like a flower garden, the one where Shu and Inori spends their alone time after taking leadership of the school, is also gorgeous. The glow on that scene emphasizes how genuine their love is and how beautifully flawed Shu’s character behind his fierce leadership (of course, Hare).

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Sure, there are characters that go back and forth from being good to bad and vice versa. It may be uncomfortable to some but as for me, I think it’s pretty realistic in some aspects. Yes, this is supposed-to-be an anime. Nevertheless, it doesn’t invalidate the creators’ desire to put more reality in it. Sometimes, I think the other viewers are reacting the way they did on Akame ga Kill.

In wars, just like how the setting of the Guilty Crown is post-apocalyptic and on the verge of having another one, casualties are quite understandable. Student Council President Kohouin also had her change of heart when she fell in love with Gai and when she ended up envying the studentry’s support to Shu after he proposed an action plan. It’s natural that an elite daughter of the family who has been the center of attention for a long time to turn to the bad side when the spotlight was taken from her. Ayase’s moving on moment is also a strike. She didn’t succumb to her guilt and sadness for losing Gai. Instead, she asked help from Shu to prove to herself that she is indeed useful.

The best character development award goes to Shu, obviously. When he was a kid, he’s this jolly person who encourages others to be courageous and brave. After the tragedy the Lost Christmas inflicted, there’s no doubt that it will traumatize him and became this isolated person we get introduced on the first episode. Living in the shadows like that for years, there’s a tendency that they get well-attached to the first person who gave them attention and faith, hence his growing affection to Inori.

The naivety on Shu’s side during Gai’s planning of operation is on point too. That would be the first reaction of ignorant people who believes that everything should be solved with peace and diplomacy. Again, on their time, it was chaotic and there are abusive officials that plan on bringing the next apocalypse. The way he stood up for the Funeral Parlor members after Gai died fell on the right place too. He was influenced by Gai and I’m sure that after everything what happened and after remembering his past, he won’t let others get harassed or hurt too.

Hare’s death remains to be the biggest turning point for me. Given her strong belief to Shu’s kindness, she’s like a symbolism of Shu’s good side, the part that kept Shu’s inner struggles in check. When she died and Shu declared to become king, I clapped until the episode ends. The subsequent display of his flaws as a human is wonderful. His wrath, the cold treatment, the way he controlled the school and its students. I’m not saying they are nice things. BUT they kept his development moving. It’s not about embracing the bad side but accepting it as a part of you. It’s an ugliness that even Inori recognized as beautiful because in the end, the world has both its beauty and flaws, like a human being.

MUSIC. I will fight anyone who tells me that this anime’s soundtrack is not good. All of the songs they used in the anime are in my playlists! My personal favorite is Bios and Departure Blessings though. I remember I have a friend who has a similar voice to Inori’s voice actress. We became friends because we’re both in love with Guilty Crown. She would sing Departure Blessings a lot when we walk together.

ENDING. As much as I’d like for Shu to die with Inori, the ending didn’t disappoint me or anything. Actually, when I read its summary and explanation, it made sense. It was an unexpected sacrifice from Inori as she have always preferred to be together with Shu. Even so, we have to admit that they are the most unfortunate pair. Inori is human-made vessel for someone else. Someone who is supposed to be emotionless and everlastingly obedient. Meanwhile, Shu is the Adam that Mana appointed even he was still on their mother’s womb. He was already destined to yield the power of the king. I think the reason why Gai is furious when Shu took the power on the first episode is not because he wants it to be his. He’s only making sure that Shu won’t suffer the fate he is destined to have due to Mana’s mind deterioration back then— which is to be the next Adam and bring forth the next generation and its evolution.

That is why them being the couple in the center of all chaos, taking back all the virus’ traces and giving back the voids he used, made perfectly sense. The song ‘Release my soul’ is also a tribute to their love story. Since Inori is not really supposed to exist via natural means, I understand how she chose to allow Shu to continue living instead of dying with her. Shu is still young, after all. He has a future waiting for him, one that Inori can’t possibly have naturally because in the first place, she is not human. You do remember that part when she went berserk, right?

As for the blindness, it came from Inori who was on that time was consumed by Mana. Mana being affected by Inori’s interference on the final battle, the physical body they share was greatly infected by the virus that it caused blindness. When Shu decided to take everything on his hands to end it once and for all, he also took Inori’s blindness as a part of sacrificing themselves. It’s Inori’s last minute sacrifice that mattered. The red threads which are symbolism of destiny/fate are also the same object that tangled Shu’s and Inori’s fates forever. By taking this, Shu also took Inori’s soul before it can also be destroyed along with her physical body. The blindness is simply a reminder that Inori was there. It was Inori’s blindness. It’s a bittersweet ending. The body no longer exists but her soul remains with the one she loves. Together, in the inner mind and consciousness, they are on each other’s arms.

Okay so, this post is going to have A LOT under read more, cause this is going to probably get big. Because of the manga images, as well as my explanation of things. If you DO plan to read the new manga, as it is still fresh and coming out one chapter a month, please, do not READ this. So, without further ado, time to break down Akame in Hinowa ga Yuku!

So, this entire post is actually explaining how the wiki is mostly wrong and misinterpreting what is going on with Akame and her curse, so, I would like to explain it after freshly reading and fully going through all the current chapters of the new manga. So, let’s get started, shall we? Now at the end, there also will be my speculations of TRUTHS that might one day come, but for now, they are my speculations. Nothing confirmed.

So, one thing that has always annoyed me is this: the wiki states she is TOO WEAK from her curse to fight at her best. Now, without reading the manga, that infuriated me. I mean, I understood it, she unleashed Ennodzuno and in doing so, she resigned herself at that moment to dying after her battle, or during, the battle with Esdeath. She didn’t expect to live from it all, or have a lasting life. She was ready to give her life at that moment. All to bring peace to her country, and I understood and still do. But I loathed this way of doing things, and I wanted nothing to do with it.

After reading the current chapters of Hinowa ga Yuku, I have fully changed my mind on how I feel about this, and am actually in LOVE with what they are doing.

First off, let’s get to the core of the Curse. So, to those who are new to my blog and have not read over my Meta on the info on the Curse, or, have not heard me screaming about it, I will explain. Ennodzuno was the Trump Card of her Murasame, to which increased her strength, her speed, and gave her unrivaled fighting ability when it came to her BODY. But in doing so, she had to sacrifice her humanity to unleash this power. Murasame remembers all the foes she has slain, and inflicts their grief, torment, pain, agony, and hatred onto her, branding her in the souls of the many she has slain, and gives her a temporary boost to power, wherein once it fades, she is WEAKENED the rest of her life. (While afflicted by the curse.) That is Ennodzuno.

She moves faster than the human eye can perceive ALREADY without this power, and only people at General level can face her without dying normally. When she activated Ennodzuno, even Esdeath, a GENERAL, could not keep up with her speed and lost her movements many a time. In the anime, it does not show the true strength Akame actually has, as they put Esdeath and Akame on the same field of power: they are not. Akame is leagues stronger, and it’s shown by the fact that Esdeath erects a wall of ice all around them to ‘keep all intruders out’, but the true intent is that she is BLOCKING them in, to freeze the entire area around them. Making the ground slippery, and the air temperature dropping to sub--zero levels to make it so Akame has a harder time keeping up her strength. Akame is the strongest woman alive in her country, and possibly in her world in general with Ennodzuno active, but it could only be active for one fight...or so it seemed. But we will get to that after.

The changes to her body from the Curse are quite apparent: her entire body is swathed in markings from the Curse, and her eyes have Murasame’s poison coursing through them in a circular pattern around her iris. Now, it is not determined whether or not her eyes feel this, but, the markings along her body cause EXCRUCIATING pain to her. They always throb. They always ache. It feels like someone has taken a blade and torn it across her skin every second. Over time, she got used to this, and once she got used to the agony, her marks adapted to her pain resistance: and instead, they made her feel HEAVIER and SLOWER than she once was.

Now, this is what the manga, and the wiki, are correct on, but what the Wiki is wrong about, is that this made her weaker than she once was. She is not weaker. And I will explain why.

In this panel, Akame just fought a foe stronger than she has ever seen or faced before. She landed a blow, and Hinowa wanted to go after her. But Akame knows better. She doesn’t allow her emotions to control her, and she states, ‘She’s strong. This body’s too heavy to finish her.’ Now, this does not mean that Akame is weaker than her. But I will get more into this later. For now, continuing to examine this panel, we can see that Akame’s blade shattered like glass. This was from blocking a very DEADLY attack which we saw in the first chapter fully eviscerate a foe. And by eviscerate, I mean it cut off the FIRST Hinowa’s arms, legs, and split open her chest having her bleeding to death. Akame is the very first to block it, and she did so with a normal sword. And then, in Yomihime’s second of astonishment and fear, Akame dealt a blow and slashed open her upper arm, causing her to flee in anger.

Now, right there, that doesn’t sound like a woman whom is SLOWER than she used to be. But let’s review the scene.

First off, look at the FEAR in her eyes when Akame overpowered her most deadly attack. No one has DONE that yet, and you can TELL from the look in her eyes. And yet here is Akame, injured still and healing, CURSED atop of that, and she was able to do so and INJURE the general.

And it doesn’t stop there.

Akame is injured during this fight, so let’s move ahead to another moment: her second fight with Yomihime. Now, to anyone whom has watched this account a bit, they have seen this scene posted before. So I will explain it after reposting it here.

Yomihime is a being that is stronger than any Akame has ever faced. She is a bastard child of a DANGER BEAST and a HUMAN. With the power, either directly or due to her sword, it’s unconfirmed currently, to SUMMON FLAMES around her. She doesn’t even feel it. But she can’t control it fully either. Akame was injured when she lunged forward for a strike, getting burned, and realized she had only a handful of seconds to get in a hit in order to not take terrible wounds during the fight.

And she managed to do so, and DRIVE YOMIHIME BACK once more. Now, she did still get burned, but she was able to match the speed needed.

Not only does Yomihime look dead ass ASTOUNDED someone was able to still cut her without being burnt to a crisp, and the speed needed was on par with Ennodzuno’s movements, hence why only Akame has ever matched a being like Yomihime. And then, even Yomhime states that Akame has become STRONGER than last they met. As Akame is now fully healed, and no longer injured. So not only is she still with the same speed and strength she had before, but she is WHILE still cursed.

Now finally, my speculation: I do not THINK Akame is fully human herself. I think she may be partially the same as Yomihime, if not fully. For even though it was Murasame that gave her this curse...I don’t see how a normal human would last this long, even trained like Akame is. So here comes my speculation, because even Yomihime, on their first meeting, states, ‘You’re like me.’ to Akame. So is it possible? It could make up for the difference in Akame’s physical capabilities compared to a normal human, as well as why her curse has SUSTAINED this long without killing her.

hello I'm Jessica Now a little information about me about me I'm 29 dyslexic but I do my I'm still looking for a band roleplay The Band list of groups my oc would have love interests for but if you don't see any you like tell me some you do and I will gladly put in the work to give you the band you want but please if you message me to stick to it because I have had a few people start talking with me about plot and ideas then just disappear so if that’s what your going to do please don’t message me.

Grammar and spelling isn't an issue as long as I know that your trying to say we should be fine but I will not accept one liners I RP in third person and paragraph form only I can't deal with one liners any more but I will not accept novel style ether I just can't match that I can do 100 to 500 ors per side but if you write more that's fine just understand I may not match your length but I will do my very best to try and get as close to it as i can also know that with dyslexic so if your looking for perfect grammar i’m not your girl I do have discord if you want to talk there just let me know otherwise I mainly rp over email or discord.

The audience is surprised for this outcome.

Binge-Watching: Akame ga Kill, Episodes 7-9

The bloodshed continues! In which we say goodbye to a real champion, Esdeath begins to make her mark, and I consider the merits and drawbacks of the show’s streamlined storytelling.

No Time for Tears

With the execution of Sheele last episode marking as definitive a statement of purpose as one could hope for, Akame ga Kill has started shifting into its second stage. The set-up of the characters and their goals is over: now, it’s time to start throwing them into deathmatch after deathmatch, let the crazy powers bounce off each other and watch as the blood runs like a river. And it’s becoming increasingly clear that this show really has very little on its mind other that throwing a bunch of eclectic maniacs with creative superpowers together and watching them butcher each other to pieces in the most gloriously over-the-top way possible. There’s a very truncated feelings to its storytelling; any moments of character building or plot progression that aren’t directly tied into a big fight scene are given only the most cursory attention on the way to the next aforementioned big fight scene. Two characters are randomly introduced and given the barest minimum of characterization before immediately getting slaughtered within the first minute of their introduction by the villains of the hour. Bulat becomes the next casualty of this show’s bloodbath, and the very next episode we’re back to cracking wise with the remaining assassins as if he just moved away to some far-off place. Wave, the POV character for the team of assassins Esdeath’s starting to build up, literally dumps his entire backstory on us in internal monologue from the moment we meet him like he’s reading off his character sheet. There’s no time given for the emotional weight of, well, anything to really sink in; it’s just connective tissue on the way to seeing what creative bloodletting the show has in store for us next.

And I’m a little conflicted on how I feel about it. On the one hand, I still appreciate the no-bullshit pretension of just wanting to show off a bunch of cool setpieces and getting us there however it can. At the very least, it keeps Akame ga Kill from becoming bogged down in the muck of its own overblown sense of self like some other edgefests I could mention (*cough* Elfen Lief *cough*). On the other hand, it means that while I’m definitely still enjoying the time I’m spending with it, it’s on a purely surface level. There’s nothing stopping this show from having at least a little depth or nuance under its surface; sometimes, that single sprinkle of something extra can be all that’s necessary to elevate a show from good to great. Alas, subtlety is not this show’s strong suit; a potentially affecting scene where Akame and Tatsumi confront each other in the wake of Sheele’s passing, struggling with how to keep a level head for their jobs while still coping with the grief of losing their friend, is undercut by Tatsumi’s internal monologue spelling out every emotion the show wants us to feel like it thinks we’re still in grade school and can’t pick up on the subtleties of human interaction. It’s unfortunate, really; Akame ga Kill’s doing perfectly well for itself all things considered, but I can’t help being disappointed by how much better it could easily be if it just tried a little harder.

Bye-Bye, Bulat

But perhaps this show’s lack of deeper meaning or purpose doesn’t have to be a bad thing. After all, if my experiences with Seraph of the End, Blue Exorcist and the like have confirmed anything, it’s that some shows can just be what they are, and you can take them on their own terms. Akame ga Kill is no masterpiece, but so far it’s managing to deliver where it counts and give its characters appropriately overblown send-offs as they clash with equally overblown opponents. Bulat’s duel with the Three Beasts doesn’t match the absurd glory of Sheele’s final clash, but it’s got a giant water snake of death, literal bloodbending, Bulat schooling Tatsumi on proper fighting technique in the middle of his duel, combing his messed-up hair back into true pompadour mode as he schools his opponents on the meaning of his fighting philosophy, and, of course, reminding them never to ask if they actually killed their opponent with an attack (”When you say that, more often than not, the enemy isn’t dead!”). Plus, his dragon armor synchronizing to Tatsumi reminded me of a raging Evangelion, and that’s just fucking cool. Sayonara, Bulat. You were one cool trooper.

Meet the Ice Queen

Meanwhile, while all that’s going on, she who seems to be this show’s final foe is starting to rise from the shadows: Esdeath, apparently the most dangerous Imperial Arms user in the kingdom. And while she’s just hanging around in the background for now, we’re already starting to piece together a pretty clear picture of exactly what kind of monster our heroes are gonna be up against. There’s something magnetic and dangerous about her presence: Bulat’s former general basically admits that he joined Esdeath’s imperial death squad because she awoke his dominatrix fetish. But what’s piquing my interest in particular about her character is her confidently stated desire to find romance amidst her hunting down Night Raid. That’s a very unexpected angle to take on a character archetype that’s usually entirely disinterested in mushy stuff like boys and marriage (think Olivier Mira Armstrong from FMA), and there are a lot of different directions this could end up going in. On the one hand, it’ll be interesting to see a female villain who doesn’t have to compromise her life as a woman to remain a dangerous foe. On the other, I highly suspect that the thought going into this aspect of her character was less on the cogent stereotype-defying side and more on the appeal-to-dominatrix-fetishists side. I dunno, we’ll see. Now that Tatsumi’s been roped into being her love slave, I’m sure we’re going to a much closer look at her psyche before too much longer. If nothing else, it should make for an interesting discussion.

Goblin Slayer – 01 (First Impressions) – Shoulda Leveled Up

A young priestess and healer is eager to start adventuring, and registers with the guild. She’s quickly recruited by a party of three: a swordsman, a hand-to-hand warrior, and a wizard of the mage’s college. All are Porcelain-ranked, the lowest.

They’re all very gung-ho about going into a cave and hunting some goblins who recently raided a village, but they don’t have any plan, and it’s clear from the worried look of the guild registrar that they’re in over their heads with such a mission.

At no point do the members of the party take the threat of the goblins seriously, or not overestimate their skills. The swordsman even boasts he could slay a dragon if he wanted, even as his long sword hits the roof of the cave, showing just how out of his element he is.

Predictably, the low-level rookies get their asses handed to them, and it’s not pretty. This show promptly shows the folly of underestimating goblins, who are all too willing to exploit the many weaknesses of their human opponents.

The party manages to kill a couple of goblins, but the wizard is stabbed with a poison blade and the priestess’ healing spell is useless. The swordsman nicks the cave roof at the wrong time and gets overrun and gutted; and the hand-to-hand specialist is over-matched by a larger hobgoblin, who tosses her to the other goblins.

That’s when we learn one more little detail that takes the threat of the goblins to a new and darker depths: they’re quite fond of raping the women they manage to overpower.

They don’t even have a problem about raping the half-dead wizard. The depiction of bestial rape was apparently (and understandably) controversial in both the LN and this adaptation. The helpless, fear-petrified Priestess is shot in the shoulder with an arrow and looks to be their next victim…until the titular Goblin Slayer shows up.

The Slayer is as effective, ruthless, and cunning as the noobie party was ineffective, overconfident, and foolish. He keeps a running tally of his goblin kills (like Gimli and his orc-count), puts the wizard out of her misery, and with the Priestess’ Holy Light assists, takes out the two biggest threats: the goblin shaman and the hulking hobgoblin.

He also finds the goblin children and slaughters them, saying they’ll learn from their elders’ mistakes and hold grudges for life. The Goblin Slayer may be more the manifestation of an concept (namely, goblin slaying) than he is an actual character, there’s no disputing his skills…nor his respect for his enemy, something that doomed the rookies.

The hand-to-hand warrior’s adventuring days are likely over, at least for the time being, as she’s carted off to recover from the trauma she endured. The swordsman and wizard both died in the cave.

That leaves the Priestess the sole survivor of her first ill-fated party, but to her credit she’s not discouraged from continuing her life as an adventure; it’s just who she is. Indeed, she takes her first fiasco of a quest as a valuable lesson: don’t go in to any quest half-cocked. As soon as she returns to town she procures some chain mail.

To survive the next quest, she must also gain strong allies—allies like Goblin Slayer. She may only be able to heal or cast holy light three times, but those three times will make his job of slaying goblins that much easier, so he’s happy to have her by his side for his next session. And so, a new party of two is born.

Like other White Fox works like Akame ga Kill!, Re:Zero and Steins;Gate, Goblin Slayer knows how to pile on the suspense and dread and doesn’t hold back when it comes to torturing its characters. It also features some pretty solid soundtrack, including a thoroughly badass battle theme during the end crawl.

It’s a desperately simple show—something I believe works in its favor—and while its protagonist is pretty much an Index clone so far, at least the episode ends with her in a better position to succeed…though she’ll have to get stronger for the day or moment when the Slayer won’t be there to bail her out.
