Artists who's styles I mimicked: @buggachat @hamsternamedmarinette @ladybeug @sabertoothwalrus and @anna-scribbles all epic artists 🤟😎
#my art#marinette dupain cheng#miraculous ladybug#miraculous fanart#style mimic#sorry for the @s btw#yall should go follow those artists if you dont already also#this was sort of inspired by a post the three artists on the top row made#i think they all got together and drew with one another#which is really cool#but i was genuinely confused because i mimic styles a lot#and ive seen others do it too so i was just like#wow they really know each others styles really well#until i thought about it and read their posts some more#style mimicking is really freaking fun and i think its really good practice#and a good way to explore other ways of doing things#like you really have to learn new techniques and get out of your comfort zone#also anna scribbles i could not find a recent pic of marinette in her main outfit#so thats the only marinette i drew in different clothes cuz i couldnt find a more recent ref of you drawing it#anna scribble marinette has privileges thats the others dont#but ye#i also threw my own style in there as a frame of reference to what me draw like#ive drawn marinette before just not in a loooong while#sabertooth walrus was the hardest for me to mimic cuz they have a broad range in their style#so its like which sabertooth do i wanna be in this pic#Buggachat has such a distinct style thats very clean and consistent which is amazing so they were easy#being easy or hard arent bad things either it also has to do with like styles meeting up with one another#buggachats and mine arent too too different in some shapes and aspects#so yeah itd be easier plus they drew marinette like 3 sec ago so i have more recent of a ref#as opposed to sabertooth who i have a recent ref of ladybug but not marinette so we got two diff styles in one

i've been sitting on this post for a few days now and it's literally just, me making assumptions about kudos i've noticed on fics lately (particularly aci since i've been checking that fic every week for book club these past few months) and this'll make me seem more insane than i already come off but by this point. how much lower can i go?
just going from top to down as of today.
Tumblr media
[ShibaLee] i know you from your art on here!! tumblr user shibaleeart i'm happy to see more people in potentially enjoying the stories this fandom has to offer :>
[reiscm] shizuchansmilk?? what are youuu doing here? i didn't know you read shizaya fic tbh and i was surprised to see you here suddenly, relatively recently too. does that mean you just started the fic then?? after at least a year of being in the fandom right? maybe this wasn't from your first time reading it (same) but at the very least it shows you visited it not too long ago… i may be delusional in thinking i could be a contributing factor there because, why now? it's not like i'm the only aci advocate out there but i've probably been the most vocal about it around this time soo… well whatever it is, hope you had fun with it! i'm so curious what drrr comedian shizuchansmilk thinks about hit fanfiction a cheap imitation 👁️
i'm also recognising some of the other names around here like [anonymooose] and [durarasaiki] even though i haven't the faintest idea who they might be. i've just been seeing them lately across different shizaya fics which probably means these are the people doing their shizaya fic dive around this time. i have nothing more to add there i just, think it's cool noticing the same names across fics like yeah, we all feasting on the shizaya tag rn.
[ya_boi_twink] it took me a second to recall where i'd recognised your name from and then it hit me. i knoooow you! tumblr user yaboitwink in my notifs… i appreciate you, and i'm glad you liked the things i made for it c:
[bun_o_ween] oh i know you're here because of mr crapo. i hope you guys had fun with it! i wanna take the chance to also admit that like. the moment i found out you were that sebastian writer i experienced the wildest sense of deja vu. because. i had seen your name on ao3 before. but when i checked your fics there was no way i'd read a fic from you?? so then i realised i must have recognised you... through other kudos on other fics??? dude. i must sound crazy, i have no way of proving this because i actually don't remember what fics these were i just vaguely remember it was either bsd or tgcf? that i was looking at fics for, trying to find something to sate my hunger at the time. and i just remember, noticing your name across like a few of these fics in a row and thinking "heh someone else has been going down the same rabbit hole" AND NOW I SEE YOU AND CRAPO OF SHIZAYA FANDOM HITTING IT OFF it was surreal. like. my awareness of you had zero to do with black butler, i could not have predicted that you would have been the random ao3 user i'd seen apparently enjoying some of the same fics i was not too long ago. wow.
Tumblr media
there are like two separate flamingo related names around here [niceflamingo] and [flamingoo] which doesn't mean anything but for some reason they are standing out enough for me to want to mention them. i feel like i've seen ao3 user flamingoo in the kudos of some other fic before but idk.
[Luzki] omg hey!! twitter artist vi_138_ woah hiii funny seeing you here :0 especially like. not so long ago? since i'd imagined you would've been aware of the fandom for a while since you seem more invested in the alts than shizuo and izaya in particular? well it was cool seeing that you'd read this one, i hope ya had fun!
[frogsarefriends] right under that is artist hallucxnating >:O i know they've read the fic already but it was cool to actually recognise their kudo down here, especially since it's like. not recognisable just from the name alone, but you've shared links to this ao3 as your writing so now i know it's you. my impression is that you came into the fandom through slavhew since, i'd connected the dots at some point that you two were friends which. made a lot of sense since i noticed you both started being active around here at the same time lol. but hey!! welcome to the club :D
[7FlyingPancakes7] this is one of the ones i'd noticed earlier on during book club, i distinctly remember checking a chapter while walking home one night (because i do that i guess) then BAM what the hell?? i just see tumblr user mari-lair's ao3 appear down there, totally out of nowhere for me. for context this was a writer from the tpn fandom i recognise from like 4 years ago? idk it's been a while, i didn't talk to them much but they were active in the fandom at the time so i'm familiar with their name. i haven't been keeping up with them but last i'd seen they seemed to be into tbhk with no indication as far as i was aware that they'd shown any interest in shizaya. nothing wrong with that it was just unexpected, so i was just like woah!! how did you get here? i am so curious how they may have come across this fic, was it some rec from a friend? how familiar are they with shizaya? how invested were they in the story and characters? enough to go down more of shizaya's greatest hits? anyways, that was just a fun little small world moment for me.
[psych0tastic] hey isn't this…. axietoh? like, the artist who used to draw shizaya like 5 years ago? what are they doing here so high up the list? 🤔 i have no clue lol i still follow them because i really like their art style but i hadn't noticed their interest in shizaya resurfacing... i suppose they just haven't been too active on these socials in general. anyways their name stood out to me and i was like, wait….. well it's a shocker seeing their name so high up here, were they reading this fic for the first time there or were they revisiting it and happened to have not kudo'd it until then? well anyways, it's nice to see they've revisted the fic within the last two years at least :0 that's cool to me.
[MiyukiWynter] dude i was feeling crazy just now trying to figure out where i'd recognised this name from because i'd swwooooorn i'd seen it from somewhere like as someone on twitter?? i think i was mixing them up in my mind with unrelated (as far as i'm aware) twitter user miiyankhr but turns out they're someone who's fics i've seen in the tags before. i haven't read them myself but apparently they just posted a new one two days ago so that's crazy.
[Dodomka] heyyy it's dodo from twitter, hellooo 👋 they've been the biggest supporter for my deep in the sauce fic tweets and for that i appreciate them very much :3 didn't expect to see them here tbh i wasn't aware of when they'd first read the fic but as i was expanding the list a few times to write up this post i noticed their name here and just thought that was neat. shout-out to them!
Tumblr media
[mochi010] there's a user named mochi that has shown up in my twitter notifs somewhat regularly and they have nothing on their account so i have zero clue what they might be like outside from that they've been liking my shizuo and izaya retweets. their handle isn't even mochi so i have very little reason to believe this could be them but idk, maybe? no conclusion has been made here. well i already spent time writing and cleaning up the paragraph, guess i'm leaving it in.
shout-out to [ouiouipussay] and [ramenflavorpacketsnorter420] just for having some names that stand out lol. i don't recognise you from anywhere but, i guess now i will if i ever come across those names again.
Tumblr media
[Stupidusernamepolicy] i struggled to find you amidst all these names for the writing of this post 💀 had to ctrl+f that shit. but i remember seeing your name here while i was going through the list some days before and being like "oh hey!! it's slavhew :)" but okay there's actually a tangent i've been wanting to go on from here.
Tumblr media
outside of aci i've actually been noticing you and hallucxnating double duo'ing under some fics together, like after the story era which i'd reread after hallu reminded me of its existence in a reply, and also sacramental which i had reread because of your reply, lol. i find this quite funny, just like. this visual representation of you two reading and recommending fics with each other. then you talk about it on twitter and more people like me are visiting this fic too. chain reaction of sharing stories :)
Tumblr media
ALSO [anonymooose] and [durarasaiki] spotted down here in some of these kudos too!! that's craazy. wow. i tell you guys i'm recognising these names i'm not just crazy 😭
Tumblr media
[NotElectricT] this took me a second to dig up again since it's quite buried down that list at this point but the plan i'd had in mind for this post was to end on this one since i saw them kudo it right in front of me (through the vc stream) and i didn't think this post would get as long as it did but... well i already wrote it 😬 but yeah, this is my good friend note! check out this art they made for, still one of their favourite chapters, sharks fly. it's sandwiched in between some squid game au they made for a gift exchange for me..... it's a long story i don't wanna talk about it (embarrassing......)
but what i do wanna talk about!! is how note (referred to as "patient zero" regarding aci book club by the only other patient lol) just decided to read this fic completely of their own volition?? i didn't tell them to do that and for sure didn't expect them of all people to try reading it, ever (they're not really a fic reader) but they just did that, two years ago. and that was like, insane to me at the time because it's seriously so out of their depth guys they don't do enemies to lovers.... they still don't lol. but i was insane about this fic back then with no one to really be insane about it to so i just yelled about it to these friends out of context and i guess???? that was convincing enough to get this one to start the longest fic they'd ever read 💀
i had much fun having someone experience the fic i'd been insane over..... like i'm smiling about it rn thinking about the time i did a live reading of the chainsaw man (as i like to call him) chapter which was so fun i kinda forgot i had a hamilton musical i was supposed to watch that evening... that was awkward. and other chats we exchanged regarding the fic (they were reading chapters whenever they felt like it which i enjoyed because i like pacing these things out) but for some reason (i think things just happened around the time that disrupted the momentum) they never made it past chapter 26 😔 which was tragic to me but oh well....
well i'm am even more insane about this fic now because of this convoluted chain of events that gradually built and cascaded me towards whatever the fuck i'm doing now!! god. i've never made so much, anything, like ever. until now. because both note and rosa (who has not kudo'd this fic as far as i'm aware lol) made the decision beyond my expectations to commit to, a book club. which i organised. and i've been having a lot of fun! so much fun, there's all this wild "marketing" stuff i've been churning out in record fucking time by my standards. i've never felt so creatively fulfilled dude, never finished a thing in my life until these past few months. so that's awesome, and it's in large part because of note having committed to this fic again. so that's some of the story behind that one kudo haha.
and now we're at chapter 49, we're supposed to be talking about it tomorrow, which is today by now since it's 1 am but uhhhhhhh writing is so hard. i was supposed to just be cleaning up this draft i'd written like 5 days ago? i am now very hungry. there's actually more i'd drafted up from here just from more names i recognised as i kept expanding the kudo list that day buuuut i'm fuckeeeen cutting this off right here. i need to stop. the end.

Valtteri Bottas was part of a Finnish tv show called "Yökylässä" (sleepover) where the host goes to visit Finnish celebrities and spends two days and one night in their home. This episode aired on February 2nd, 2023 and was filmed at some point in 2022.
Below I give context to the screenshots and have also translated some interesting bits:
1st row: Just some cute random VB photos to start with
2nd row: He really loves gin, first two photos are from his main apartment and right photo is from his weekend house. It simply was too many bottles to fit into one shot (no pun)
3rd row: And here we have him making gin tonic using his own gin brand. The obligatory helmet wall (there was another one as well). He's had this Ferrari for a few months, says blue is his favorite color. He'd have wanted to drive the host around with it but the battery had run out so they went with his red Alfa Romeo SUV
4th row: That's his weekend house near the main apartment but outside the city center. An artist in Monaco offered to make art work (something funny) for him and this is what they received. The framed a$$ photo is in the guest bathroom of the weekend house. They sold 5400 pcs of prints of it in 24h and got 50k€ for charity
5th row: They face timed Mika. He (grinningly) says the only advise he can give to Valtteri is "to break later". Just some absolute mint slippers he was wearing when they brushed teeth. That's his boat which is called "Rehab" but "it's almost the opposite (when you go there)". They rent it for others too, a full day is ~5k€
Other stuff i decided to highlight:
There's 3 or 4 feral cats around the weekend house that they'll give food to
The most important trophies are in Finland, the one from his first win is the most special
"It's hard to find apartments that you like to stay in (in Monaco), the prices are crazy expensive and quality is quite bad and they're old"
He pays 9500 € rent per month for his apartment
He wouldn't say how much the weekend house cost
The main reason for moving to Monaco was the taxes. He's calculated that in Finland his net income would be ~20 % of all of his gross income. In Monaco it's 60-70% after his expenses (like managers etc.) At the beginning of his career when things were unsure he thought it's important to try to make as much money as possible, after all the hard work he had put into becoming an F1 driver
He doesn't enojy fame and would rather be unknown but he understands it's part of being in F1 and he'd do anything to be able to live his childhood dream
He drove a kart for the first time as 5yo, jumped out of it and told everyone he'll become an F1 driver
Mika Häkkinen was his idol as a kid. It was a wow moment when he got a call from an unkonwn number in 2007 and it was Mika who wanted to help him in his career
He handles his finances/contracts by himself because it's hard to give someone else control over those things. Also mentions he doesn't like to be a passenger in a car because he's not in control of it
He only goes to social media to post things he wants to share, he doesn't read any comments or dm's
Tiffany does read some comments and said there's now less hateful comments towards Valtteri compared to how much there was when he drove for Merc
He hasn't really been single, after his break ups he's fallen in love quickly again. "It's nice to have a life partner"
Weight mentions ahaed! He talks a bit about the same stuff he mentioned in his podcast last year; he trained himself sick (around 2014). He was having really unhealthy training and eating habits and hid things from his trainer. He thought at the time that was what he should do. "If your team tells you to weight a certain amount, you'll do it". He then talked to a psychologist who said at first he was behaving like a robot without emotions but after that he started to work on getting healthier habits back
Host: "Do you talk about mental health related issues with your colleagues?" - "Not really, it still isn't a common subject to talk about. Even though maybe we should, I'm not the only guy who sometimes struggles".
Host: "How was it when you were the second driver for years?" - "Quite tough. It was so hard to accept but now I've made peace with it that Lewis was a better driver than me. After last year (2021) I admitted to myself that that's just how it goes sometimes." "Did you use to be bitter and jealous?" - "Yes, especially the first couple of years. I didn't hate him, we had a good partnership but I always thought how can I beat him and be better than him and win the championship. But it was tough 5 years. I shouldn't have been as harsh to myself."
He pays the private jet company he uses extra amount of money, enough to compensate the environmental impact. They went to his boat and he said he will compensate the costs too
He mentions that sometimes in the places they travel to it's better to keep quiet and lay low than to speak up about the issues within the country. He does say that in Saudi (2022, after the missile) the drivers decided to not drive but they were guaranteed it's safe to do so and that there's heavy security around the track. "Show must go on" and they weren't really given an option other than to drive. Formula 1 goes to places that pay the most.
Host: "The only thing missing from your life is F1 championship, is that so?" - "Yes."

Wow me posting art two days in a row it’s a goddamn miracle
also if this looks a lil wonky it’s because the sketch for this was from like, January or something so it’s a lil out of date
I imagine in this canon humans wouldn’t normally have black sockets like Horror does, that’s only because her eyes were kinda hallowed out from the whole spear incident. Aside from her only people like Killer or Reaper (and maybe Nm and Dream?? Maybe Ink??) would have black sockets, everyone else has normal eyes
this is an early concept so I’d actually love any ideas or critiques for her design. It’s pretty vague for now but I wanna make it more unique (also if anyone has any idea what to do for shoes pls help I do not want to give her slippers but tennis shoes or something doesn’t really seem right either)

Famous Five Art Nostalgia #21 – Part 4
Introductory post
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Five Are Together Again – Le Club des Cinq en embuscade
Original publication date: 1963 (UK), 1967 (France)
Tumblr media
(Cover art by Jean Sidobre, Vermeille collection, 1974)
Plot summary (adapted from Wikipedia):
The children are supposed to be staying at Kirrin Cottage, but as soon as George's parents' maid Joanna catches scarlet fever, the Five are sent to live with an old friend, called Tinker, and his famous scientist father, Professor Hayling, who first appeared two volumes ago in Five Go to Demon's Rocks.
Tumblr media
(Worried that Timmy did not escape Kirrin Cottage to greet George at the train station, she takes a taxi to get there quicker while Julian, Dick and Anne walk at a more leisurely pace)
Tumblr media
(George is relieved to see Timmy safe and sound, but worried about her parents being in quarantine)
Tumblr media
(George talks to her mum from the garden as they make accommodation plans)
Tumblr media
(Mischief is delighted to be reunited with his doggo bestie!)
Tumblr media
(Excited buddies!)
Due to Professor Hayling’s low tolerance for rowdiness, Jenny the housemaid suggests for the children to camp in a field behind the house. When the children get there, they see that several caravans from a travelling circus have started to settle in. Tinker gets very angry but it turns out that the circus has permission to use this field. The kids pitch their tents in a corner of the field some way from the caravans.
Tumblr media
(Tinker performs household chores in his customary manner: rowdily and expeditiously)
Tumblr media
(Tinker strides to the unwelcome, uninvited guests)
Tumblr media
(Mr Tapper [M. Barbarino], the circus’s manager, is unimpressed with Tinker’s complaints)
Tumblr media
(Professor Hayling has a small mishap with the children’s luggage)
Tumblr media
(Chatting in the garden)
The children get to see the circus folks’ rehearsing, then have supper with them. Tinker runs his mouth and blabs about his father’s secret work, which is kept in a tower next to the house.
Tumblr media
(The children admire the circus’s horses, which are led by Jeremy [Gino], Mr Tapper’s grandson)
Tumblr media
(Charlie the chimp is a great help with carrying the children’s camping equipment!)
Tumblr media
(He’s also great at playing tennis [cricket in the original English version])
Tumblr media
(Anne is amazed at the tap-dancing donkey (not realising that the donkey is actually two performers in a costume))
Tumblr media
(Sharing dinner with the circus folk)
Tumblr media
(Mr Wooh [M. Karkos], the math wizard, wows the children with his calculating prowesses)
During the night, Jenny gets a scare when she sees a silhouette climbing up Professor Hayling’s tower, which seems crazy because the tower is vertical with no handholds or possible way to climb.
Tumblr media
(An acrobatic thief!)
But there was indeed someone, and Professor Hayling discovers in the morning that several secret papers have been stolen. The Five decide to investigate around the circus, and they also make plans to hide the professor's remaining precious papers on Kirrin Island, Professor Hayling being too forgetful to find a good hiding place for the papers himself.
Tumblr media
(Jenny and Tinker are at a loss figuring out the theft)
Tumblr media
(Tinker is worried about the safety of his father’s remaining papers)
Tumblr media
(Making plans)
Tumblr media
(Julian agrees with Tinker’s idea about drawing fake schematics to confuse the thieves)
Tumblr media
(Tinker punches Jeremy for hitting Dick and George with a stick after both of them ‘borrowed’ – without asking permission – the donkey-skin to try it on)
Tumblr media
(Fun at the beach – Mischief wisely prefers to stay on dry land!)
At night, George takes her boat to Kirrin Island to hide the remaining papers. But while still on the shore, she sees a light shining on the island, and suspects that the thieves are lying in wait to get hold of the papers. So she decides to hide the papers on shore before rowing to the island.
Tumblr media
(Nightly trip to the island)
George does find two men on the island, one of them Mr Wooh – one of the circus’ performers and Charlie’s owner – and the other a crook who asked Mr Wooh to steal the papers for him. George escapes, unmoors their boat and strands them on the island.
(George is quite happy with her victory)
The children call the police in the morning, and Tinker figures out that Charlie the chimp was the mysterious climber who stole things in the tower at Mr Wooh’s behest.

Bonus:
Here is the front and back cover art from 1972’s Galaxie collection. This edition included the same inside illustrations that were later used in 1974’s Vermeille collection, featured above.

Two posts in a row, wow!
I got an opportunity to help Wan Wan Games a smidge with art stuff on their current rhythm game project! There's a design I drew up in their most recent Patreon post, along with some in-engine gameplay gifs and other concepts for the game. My contribution isn't a final design, more for style exploration and experimentation than anything.
They've been doing game development streams for the past month on the official WanWanDev Twitch account, and money donated during those have been going towards licensing music for the project! They go live Tuesdays and Thursdays 6pm EST. You can also donate HERE if Patreon isn't your thing.
If you have any interest in rhythm games, colorful artwork or cartoony character designs, I suggest you check them out! Patreon money goes towards their current and future projects and helps them out in the long run.

A Post Mortem
From September 15th, 2019 until now, this zine took nearly three years to get out the door. This post will give you the summary as to why this happened, in part because I’m sure some people are wondering, and also as a warning to anyone who wants to do a zine and has not before! Don’t be me!
The tl;dr is to not do a zine solo... At least not without having participated in mod roles for other zines first.
So when I started this project, I had a lot! of excitement! about VRAINS and TakeYusa and as someone who, in theory, has gotten through much more difficult life projects, I thought to myself that I could strongarm my way through a zine, how hard could it be to keep all the organizational ducks in a row, learn how to format a zine, make sure prose got edited, make sure art was the correct file types, get the book printed and do all of this in a timely fashion? I’ve made video games! This surely can’t be harder than that!
Boy howdy, this was WAY HARDER. For a number of reasons!
Firstly, I was very much in a position of not knowing enough to even KNOW that I didn’t know enough. Keeping track of as many moving pieces as this, I got overwhelmed, I freaked myself out and avoided the problem instead of asking for help. I could do it! I will do it tomorrow! Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow oh no, it’s been a month.
I kept in touch sporadically with contributors, and ultimately did accept that I had a problem, and I had to do SOMETHING to get this out the door. So I hired a professional editor friend of mine to edit the prose to clean up grammar and all of that, and Erin (imaginarystormz) came to my rescue in so many different ways I owe her my LIFE.
Erin was able to get the books formatted and ready for print, she made the digital versions, I had a printer recommendation from a friend so I got in contact with them, sent off the files... and ultimately stalled out several more times because they would ask me a question I didn’t have the answer to, and I would just shut down.
Eventually, I get through this (Erin, again, to the rescue) and the books are ORDERED. I RECEIVE THE BOOKS. They are BEAUTIFUL. I have also ordered my bubble mailers at this point, gotten a postage scale, gotten everything ready to get these books shipped! At this point, I had enough sense to enlist the help of a local friend who was able to help me quality check the books and also help me put together the packages to ship out contributor copies.
If you are a contributor reading this and you HAVE NOT received your copy, please email mybloodtypeisc AT gmail DOT com at your earliest convenience and I WILL get you sorted out!
So I ship out all the packages, the postal service decides to eat one of them, but as far as I can tell the rest of them all made them to their destinations. I post the above aside JUST in case.
So now I just need to finish up the shop right? I just need to make the listing, I need to punch in a price, I need to punch in shipping information... and here we go again! I get overwhelmed and shut down and Erin has to fix it for me fo the fiftieth time. This was six months ago.
And then there’s like two things I have to do and my brain fails on me again, and here we are today! I finally did those tiny things!
It is ridiculous that it took me so long, even with help, to get this out the door. I can say that within the past few months, I was diagnosed with a mental health condition that explains not only my entire life, but also all my issues with this project in particular. So okay, I have an explanation, but it unfortunately does not allow me to go back in time and resolve this.
In between all of this, there were of course Life Adventures as one has but really, 90% of this was me getting overwhelmed and shutting down and just handling it poorly. COVID certainly contributed to my stress, but that was only part of it.
So if you’re reading this and thinking to yourself “Wow I don’t think I could ever trust Pachi to run another zine in any fandom” I do have good news: I am not going to! I severely underestimated the amount of work involved, and I am never touching another zine. I am never managing something like this again in general!
And to make sure these all get SHIPPED in a timely manner, I will be going to said local friend’s house each Saturday that I have any orders to get them packed up and RIGHT out the door.
There’s not really anything else I can say. I felt bad about this the entire time. I feel bad about it now. I should not have done my contributors like this, and it will not be something that happens again.
If you are thinking to yourself “I want to do a zine!” for the love of all that is holy and everything else, do not do it solo. You might pull it off, more power to you, but you’re more likely to just overwhelm yourself like I did and have 99 problems along the way.
If you read all of this, thank you for your time! I don’t get alerts on the askbox here, so if you have any comments or concerns you want to make sure I see, please email mybloodtypeisc AT gmail DOT com.
Quick note on the price of the books
I have not pulled together the full details of that yet but I can quickly note that the books were a little over $1000 to print because of the fancy cover effect with the foil, there were 100 books produced, a small number of them were just dinged enough that I didn’t want to sell them. I paid for domestic and international shipping out of pocket for each contributor, and each contributor got two books. That leaves me with 70ish books to sell. The cost of each book is roughly $15 BEFORE I add in what I spent on shipping to contributors, packing supplies, editing, etc.
So regardless of how many of these actually sell, buyers will get them at less than it cost to produce them when all is said and done. I do want to share the cost breakdown for educational purposes, but I didn’t want to delay things AGAIN by waiting until I had THAT done to do all of the rest of this.

i guess it makes sense somehow that burnt ash can be wet
#the thing about bouncing to whatever style excites me is that it’s hard to bounce back#i bounced really hard to try to follow scribs' style and it was hard and now i have like what 15 seconds of a shitty animatic in that style#it isn't even that consistent style-wise because i kept trying to copy it and failing#i didn't learn it before trying to copy it and that made it worse#i spent two days in a row drawing past 2am and then crashed and burned today#uh. when i get tired my effort level and quality also decreases so. not the best idea#i sometimes push myself to draw because that's all that excites me nowadays and i keep doing it to feel happy#but when the end product isn't as good as i want it makes me feel worse#and then i post it because i like posting and like the validation and when stuff gets less notes because not gonna lie it's low-quality#and below my usual standards i don't feel happy and i feel tired#i should take breaks from art i know i should and i need a break but i cANNOT stay away long enough it's like an addiction#my candle burns at both ends it may not last the night but oh my foes oh my friends it makes such a pretty sight#i push myself to keep doing it because it makes me happy and then the whole thing makes me miserable#my breaks never last long and i wish they would- my record for a hiatus has been what- a few days? a week? it's never exceeded two weeks.#then i feel bad because i didn't have the self-discipline to stay away from drawing for fun.#i can't even focus on my actual projects for art or things i promised people i'd draw for them but gods i keep drawing non-stop#drawing irrelevant useless bullshit that won't help me in life and just clogs up people's dashes#i want to be active because being active is fun and interactions with people is nice but also i need to take breaks and study and improve#i haven't figured out how to incorporate practice to improve in my drawing for fun and that's unfortunate. wow i'm swearing a lot here gosh#anyway ah right the whole reason for this post is some joke ramble about how after switching styles i genuinely can't draw faces properly#because the styles all confuse me and nothing i draw comes out quite right and the only thing i like about this doodle is the hair XD#but this turned salty fast and it's kinda sad that this is my first tag ramble in a long while and it's venty. i wish it was cheerier.#i keep thinking about the quality of my art and feeling bad and it sucks. maybe if i put in more time and effort-#maybe my content would be better. maybe maybe maybe maybe. one day i hope that i can do a commission and get something out of it#show that i'm a good enough artist to get paid-#that would be the greatest validation of all. i think. but i don't think my art's at the standard where anyone would spend money for it.#some of my classmates are doing commission work and i get it because their art's gorgeous. and i just do stupid doodles and half-finished#animatics and bad art and lately all my work's been looking like absolute shit#i want to go back through this blog and delete and redraw all my old art to make this whole thing better but no bc it's good documentation#so i guess the only way on is forward. i'm going to force myself to take a break maybe it'll be better soon idk. and that's 30 tags bye

Robin Recs Rockstars: artists
Fanartists. Can’t live without them, really honestly what would even be the point, am I right? You make our days brighter, you give our dreams colour, you... catch my drift; fanartists deserve the world, but for now; here’s a small, awkward, really loving flail, celebrating several artist from this unproportionally talented fandom! (the first of... loads, probably!) Let’s get right into it.
Tumblr media
@crazybutgood‘s origami is: heartfelt, brilliant, honestly unbelievable?? Like literally how—from adorable animals, to positivity cups, to the most beautiful fic recs, there’s nothing she can’t fold. Literally. Nothing. Also, have I mentioned, her heart is just the biggest. CBG so often uses her skill to uplift other creators, collaborate, and just shine her light on this world. For instance, check out the advent calendar, an example not only of her kindness, but also her immense talent!
 Support CBG: ~ko-fi~

@julcheninred’s art is absolutely breathtaking—the details, oh my god, just. There’s such depth to them, making every piece one you can stare at for a whole flipping day (trust me, tried and tested). The shapes, the colours, the creativity in every single artwork. How can there be so much story packed into them?! Unbelievable. And my god are they just so STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS!!!
Support Julchen: ~ko-fi~
Tumblr media
@babooshkart’s art gives the softest, most exquisitely lush vibes; it’s so full of love, seeing it literally soothes the soul (I’m telling you from experience!) there’s comforting when you need it, there’s warmth and there’s heart, there’s joy, and just – just things to take your breath away. And just when you thought ‘such bliss, what more could we possibly ask for?’ - how about a straight up 25 pieces in a row? I know. What a dream. Jump into the fluffiest fluff in this twenty five days advent art collection.
Tumblr media
Spit-your-juice hilarious comics? Yep, got you: gah, each comic strip @filthylittlepureblood posts has me cackling like a mad duckling. What? I have no idea, it’s just – listen, honestly. Harry’s glasses, Draco’s expressions, the details in the background, it all amounts to this: the goofiest, most hilarious, loveable stuff you can imagine. Can’t imagine it yet? Here – you’ll thank me later.
Tumblr media
@emmessee96reborn’s style is instantly recognisable – the light that shines through, the lines, the. I actually said ‘lines’, yes, you're right, I just don’t have the words!! It’s impossible for me to say what it is about their work that leaves me so breathless. Just that it does? It’s detailed and it’s funny and it’s absolutely, mind-melting-ly beautiful. Just like in this piece, for example. You see why I struggle, right? What words can convey this?!
Support Emmesse: ~Commissions~

It’s a bit hard for me to separate @ihopeyoubothstaysafefromharm, the artist, from joy the phenomenon. His heart, his humanness, all shine as clearly in his art as in everything else he does—deep, intricate, and so, so compelling. Every tiny detail is profoundly, decidedly loved; you can feel it down to the brush stroke of every star or twinkling light. Whether it’s a sad no oat milk day, or a moment of sunshine and happiness distilled into paint, you’re sure to feel it. Or without rambling: Joy=magic, okay? If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, check out this bit out of Draco’s scrapbook.
Support Joy: ~Commissions~
Tumblr media
@pato-roldnart‘s art is... wow, I don’t even know where to start: the brilliant paintwork (is that a word?), the fantastic storytelling, the brilliance in every single piece. Can we spare a moment to shout MERMAID DRACO in unison, loud as possible? Because. My GOD. Gorgeous, compelling, full of light: feast yer eyes on this for a moment and take a deep breath with me. There’s so much more to discover. Here's one more example, although I know full well you’re already convinced!
Tumblr media
Not only is @3lvendork an immensely talented writer; not only is she a terrific artist; but she combines the two together? WHAT!  And if you thought we ever stood a chance, I dare you to look at this 80’s drarry fanart and tell me you didn’t come back breathless. Her pieces are insightful, captivating, and just absolutely spectacular. Enjoy her huge mind on this microfic but in: artform
Tumblr media
The way @slytherco draws is realistic and dreamy all at once (emphasis on the dreamy—there’s not a single character that didn’t make me stare at the screen longingly). The vibes, and the details, and the sheer hnghgnt - what else can I say, really? After drooling all over my keyboard? No, there’s simply nothing else: perfection.
Support Slytherco: ~Commissions~
Tumblr media
@caroll-in’s comics are at least ten levels above what I can describe in words: they manage to create such a complete, brilliant story in just a few panels (and every single time). They’re heartfelt, hilarious, impossibly endearing and just. So. Flipping. Gorgeous. Catch me staring at the wallpapers till I’m breathless; and please, how come each face is so endlessly expressive???
Here’s a comic strip that flew straight to my heart: Fly Me to the Moon
Support Karol: ~Commissions~
Tumblr media
Do I have an embarrassing, explicitly unique squeal for when I see @t4tdrarry‘s  art? You better believe it. Can you blame me? The light, the textures, and the expressions in every single drawing (can we talk about the blush for a second? Or just, let’s sigh together? I mean. The blush). It can be dark, it can be fluffy, it can be sexy as all heck, but it’s always, always, stellar work. Case in point: (please the blush I literally can’t) – look, they’re snogging!

Southeast Asian Fantasy, Scott Watanabe's Raya, and Gubat Banwa 5
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4
Gonna skip forward a bit to the other cool parts.
Tumblr media
The dragon boat rowing stuff is arguably Southeast Asian, but it's still a traditional Chinese thing. And of course the armors and all are very East Asian, though from what I know the Dai Viet had very similar armors. Now I'm left to wondering if they could do a "Southeast Asian setting with Fantasy!China as a major player" as China was historically, during the height of the Maritime Nusantara Trading Network.
Tumblr media
Here Scott starts enumerating each of the Five Cultures of Makara. Aside from the stellar art of course, Heart's clothing resembles Javanese or Thai or Cambodian even Balinese clothing! With that sarong like thing closed in by a belt. That's really cool. And with the hair style too, being that chignon style, is afaik also something seen even in Precolonial Philippines (which wasn't as Indianized as their western brethren, though they probably also had the sarong + belt combo). Fang can maybe pass of for Dai Viet, but Spine is not something I could confidently say passes for Southeast Asian. Maybe Mongolian? Tail could somewhat pass for Indonesian as well, although it's a bit non-traditional, with the belt and all, but the textiles and knots can work. Claw is reminiscent of the clothing of various Lumad (indigenous people) folk here in the Philippines, such as the Bagobo's and the Yakan, so that's another mark in their favor.
I think Raya's setting could've benefitted from it being a lot more huge than just Southeast Asian. It covers most of the Southeast and East Asian world, from the Steppes to the Seas. That would've been cool.
Tumblr media
Here's the cool shit. Most of the lore isn't inherently tied down to any particular Southeast Asian folklore as far as I know, but its aesthetics are very Southeast Asian. Particularly the Hindu-Buddhist trappings of the Indianized states, like Angkor Wat and Majapahit.
It's cool af worldbuilding though.
This one in particular, the Mother Dragon Temple:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that looks like Angkor Wat. A huge temple complex. This shit rocks. Temples like this in Gubat Banwa wouldn't be found in the Sword Isles, but rather, in the places with larger landmasses, such as Madaki and Malirawat.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also love this one. Some fucking good as fuck worldbuilding and some very Southeast Asian aesthetics. The compound reflects the compound of richer folk in kampung in the Malay and Indonesian area, and the roofs and walls feel very Southeast Asian. Like wow, especially with the pentagonal lore (irl SEA houses were decidedly square and being square had geomantic reasonings across many of the cultures (each side of the house must face a particular side etc. for good health etc., and among the Tausugs one would build a house facing a certain direction depending on the month, so that it faces the Naga as it circles the universe).
Tumblr media
I absolutely love this piece of lore. On or beside a water source is one of the most obvious and common places for SEA settlements to be built on. Love this shit. Stuff like this makes me wish that Raya was a TV Series Epic instead sometimes.
Watanabe then goes on to detail various cultural details, like Pearl's greeting gestures (which are cool), and Talon here, which is a nomadic culture and are very much inspired by the Steppe nomads of northern Asia than any Southeast Asian setting.
Tumblr media
Anyway, that's most of Scott's art. I skimmed over others (like the aforementioned hand gestures) so if you want to see those, head over to his site! https://www.scottwatanabeart.com/raya-and-the-last-dragon
Now I'll go on to talk a bit about anachronisms, idealisms, and consumerisms as I mentioned in the first post.
Anachronisms deals in the fact that so much of our culture is spread across large swathes of time, and this will inevitably lead to some anachronisms. A Precolonial Philippine setting with pancit canton or lumpia, for example, is anachronistic, since those two iconic dishes came in only during the Spanish Era, when trade with China boomed. I personally kind of love anachronisms, but only if they're there to heighten both the aesthetic and cultural experience of a setting. So for Gubat Banwa, I'm good with making it so that there are places that sell pancit canton like ramen shops, even though that's way out of the inspiration's timeline, because one: it looks cool and I love pancit, and two: it heightens the cultural experience. Pancit canton and lumpia are Filipino food staples, so I want to put them in for a hyper fantasy Philippine setting. This goes the same for other Southeast Asian settings: if you do Ancient Vietnam, will Champa be part of it? Because Champa was a huge part of Classical Southeast Asia. Much of Indonesian and Malay culture have been influenced by Islam, but their largest empires: Srivijaya and Majapahit, are both decidedly Hindu-Buddhist states, so there will be a dissonance of values and cultures if not taken into account.
Idealisms deal in "how we want to see ourselves". If I wrote an accurate Precolonial Fantasy setting, there would be a lot of things gone. The notion of huge cities fortified with walls would be scaled down considerably. The notion of giant towers and pagodas and statues would be gone. However, this is Fantasy. When going about writing for Gubat Banwa, I didn't particularly want to write something accurate. Rather, I wanted to write something idealistic. Fantastic. A fantasy setting that's inspired deeply and is founded upon our own ancestries and stories. I looked to the epics and found tales of the Seven-Roofed house from the Hinilawod, and tales of the great city of Mantapoli that grew so large that the angel Gabriel had to ask permission from God to teleport it to the center of the earth, and stories of the City that was brought to heaven. Idealisms in Gubat Banwa was about making a fantasy setting that could tell stories that were centered on us, and the unique stories that could rise from that. Southeast Asian fantasy settings would be more enriched if they do the same, because Southeast Asia is a land of stories, because of the vast amounts of ethnogroups, there are so many stories waiting to be told. Philippines in particular has had so many stories during or after the Spanish era, and while Colonialism is a valid part of our national consciousness, there is of course still room for stories that aren't built upon the backdrop of Colonial Oppression and invasive cultures. Stories about our people that willingly took beliefs and religions from other places, and indigenized them. And weren't taken advantage of of course.
Consumerisms tackle the hardest part of Gubat Banwa. With such a focused and specific setting, how can one sell it? How can you ask people to partake in it, something with such little representation that people still get it wrong? At this point, all I can do is two things: try to make things a bit easier for people's palate, especially the West (I've done this in Gubat Banwa, turning some terms straight up into English, and putting resources and comparisons to similar Western concepts). The other thing is ask. Ask others to trust us and our stories, and ask them to not be afraid to fuck up a bit, just revel in our vibes, in our stories. How else will our stories be heard? It's either that or we will languish in obscurity, until the inevitable wave of neocolonialism, imperialism, and capitalism erases our stories for good.
Thanks for reading all of that. I hope you enjoyed this series of posts! Check out Gubat Banwa if you have the time, that shit as painful as it is cathartic to write. Thanks again.

tuesday again 3/8/22
this week on This Old House
listening dangerous heart, by night club. another kind of goofy little song with a hook that’s thoroughly stuck in my head, that little bloopy bit that sounds like you’re booking it down a rainy highway in a eighties cybernoir. i would have been Very Into this song in high school, but it’s got a real 2016-2018 flavor of...songs that a movie about a female assassin would feature in the climax, where she’s stalking inside a secured facility soaked in rain and neon to kill her mentor/replacement father figure. this sort of driving but understated club music simply did not exist when i graduated high school in 2013
youtube
reading fallow week
watching everyone will be delighted to know i am finally watching deep space nine, one of the uncountable star trek tv runs. im about halfway through s1 and im very much “wow cool space station!” and enjoy the little morality puzzle it throws at me and then immediately bulldozes over. who all here has good meta or background reading. apparently there’s a podcast some of the cast did breaking down each episode and i do want to listen to that but maybe not right now.
Tumblr media
i love aggravated hands on hips dad sisko. no one will be surprised to know i adore major kira. awful terrible woman, great deal of fun to watch.
playing parking jam 3D, a free mobile game by popcore. unfortunately i did pay to remove ads on this one but i think it has paid for itself by helping me fall asleep several nights in a row. sometimes i check out an app if it’s been in the top 20 for several months of logging shit for work in a row. just to see what’s up. i like simple slidy puzzles. soothing for the brain
the dev, popcore, is a berlin-based company with 100+ employees which is on the larger side for a studio that hasn’t been snapped up yet but they’re making a fucking killing bc their ad placement and frequency is incredibly fucking annoying and this half-paying-attention feedback loop makes it real easy to do uhhhhh several thousand levels while waiting for other things to happen. hypercasual games! easy to pick up with no language barrier where a level can be played in under thirty seconds! that’s how they getcha! i know how it works and i work here and it still got me!
Tumblr media
making all right here we go lotta shit happened this weekend bc i attempted to work out some rage in a healthier way mostly by making my kitchen nicer. i’m still catatonically angry but my kitchen does look way nicer.
but first two additions to the bay window room (in my head i call it the office bc that’s mostly what i do in there but it feels very proprietary. other people live here also):
this tiny hardwood/brass table cleaned up very nicely, i regrettably did not take before pics and the craigslist posting has been sensibly taken down. brassoed the living hell out of it, then murphy’s wood soap, 3 layers of tea stain on scratches that didn’t do much of anything, tightened the joints, “solved” a stripped screw problem with a generous dollop of wood glue, and put my little felt furniture pads i love so much on the feeties. there are zero ninety degree angles in this house and none of the floors are level either but it’s at an acceptable level of wobble. i keep forgetting to acquire a rubber mallet to gently persuade the little brass tray to go back in its little cutout but it’s usable. the goal is to make a nice little reading nook in the entryway/other living room bc we simply don’t really use that room very much and it’s weird.
Tumblr media
this three and a half foot tall lamp also cleaned up real nice: (vacuumed the shade, glued an alarming amount of the trim and edging back down with my good friend liquid stitch, cleaned the glass and cord, dusted off the metal part, pried open the bottom and removed the broken nightlight bulb)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
kitchen: put up art (vaguely anti-war and anti-military-in-space themed, i cannot think of a more western massachusetts thing than decorating my sundrenched prewar kitchen with a gallery wall of activist posters mostly purchased in one fell swoop the last time i got a bonus, i have become that which i hate but it does look fucking sick imo) patched nail holes from failed attempts at gallery wall, caulked a bunch of shit while i was up there, patched some other nail holes from other shit.
after/before, posters from left to right: fuck your space tourism, protect mauna kea, bofa het (my sister got this at some local print on demand shop but here’s an etsy listing), daddy what did you do in the climate war?, a gift from the people of the united states of america, we checked no heaven for bootlickers, octavia butler
Tumblr media Tumblr media
acquired pompom trim. acquired more fabric to make curtains for the hall window. washed the new fabric and the curtains i had already made and managed to bleach them evenly, a thing i did not manage the last time i washed them. put the pompom trim on the sink window curtains, managed to complete one set of cafe curtains but i do not have it in me tonight to do the other set so that’ll have to be next week’s making or something. also put up plants on plant hooks from the ceiling (found out my ceiling is inch and a quarter thick plaster and lath) but am also not satisfied with how they are hanging. much to tweak.
Tumblr media
there are a couple more things i want to do in the kitchen (magnetic knife strip, contact paper for our weird backsplash, figure out wtf is up with our water filter, finish the wretched hive of scum and villainy cross stitch + frame + hang that up so it covers a weird hole left by a light fixture over our back entryway, a better solution for mops and brooms and shit, caulk some more shit and replace the weatherstripping on the back door) but other than that i am mostly satisfied with that room. i have plates and glasses and cutlery i like and a kitchen table and chairs that could survive a direct hit from a tank. spent a truly ridiculous amount of time and money getting this kitchen, the room i spend the least time in, Just So bc i had such a clear vision in my brain of what i wanted and we are Almost There.
also deep cleaned the kitchen and discovered a slow leak bc that’s just how it goes. conveniently, the shower handle fell the fuck off last night and the bathroom sink stopper has not worked since we moved in (we have been propping it open with a dull paring knife for eight months) so hopefully whoever our landlord sends to fix this will make our house much more functional. even if he refuses to pay for the moth treatment, plumbing shit is a thing that is very clearly his responsibility in our lease. bastard.

Keeping this up for the third year in a row (x), because it's always a nice way to look back at the big picture of what I actually ended up making over the course of a year. There's some cool stuff missing that I worked on this year... but due to computer issues, I can only grab from what I actually posted online. I'm happy with most of it, but also like... wow my style is all over the place.
What did I get up to in 2021?
1. Spent Christmas and New Year's in the UK.
2. Travel ban continued so in April-May-June I returned home by myself once more, and spent it working on a longer comic project with a collaborator. It's called MASTABA and it will get done eventually!
3. Spent my birthday in the UK again, and finally finished that Curiosity portrait I sketched back in 2018. Also got quite a few commissions.
4. In September we got the word that the USA would be lifting the travel ban in November! Purchased two tickets for myself and @professorflowers and thankfully, everything worked out, and we MADE IT. We're with my parents for the holidays TOGETHER.
5. After stressing about it for over a year, I finally submitted my visa application and am currently awaiting the decision from the UKVI. It's not a visa to move, it would just give us permission to get married in 2022 like we want to!
6. After the End is still in production and we hope to print it in early 2022! We're both looking forward to the new season of Good Omens and hope to see you all there!
This year I've been thinking a lot about what I like doing and what I'm good at, and what the future looks like for me and my art. Two years of ongoing pandemic is no joke, and if you're having trouble managing your mental health, please just know you're not alone. <3
