this line. it like settles the fact that these are children going for war meant for adults. imagine your fighting the enemy and they are children, you know this their small stature gives it away (they are not the only village that sends children to slaughter), as you're fighting them you notice the little things. how their kunai is slightly too big for their hands making the their movements clumsy (lethal in this fight), their clothes thick at the ends bound with bandages (too big for their frame, their chūnin vest you note with faint horror (oh so young to bear that burden) hangs loose a liability in a fight. you are bleeding, choking on your blood, you are going to die. they surround you, you brace yourself for death or torture (they are one in the same). you listen to their murmurs debating whether to take you alive, you lie there still choking on your blood still dying as children debate your life. your head is pulled into their lap, face turned towards theirs and you feel wetness hitting your face, odd you think it was a clear night. the child lips are moving, 'i'm so sorry, i'm so sorry, i have to kill you.' they are crying. 'that's okay', you grasp out, 'make it-'. crack.

sdghsdgshdgh yeah, the darkness of children being trained to kill is def something that kakashi himself touches on in the land of waves arc, specifically when they run into haku whose an obviously young shinobi who seems to be in anbu

and child assassins, its obviously a heinous concept but its also obviously a shonen manga so there's really only so deep that one can go with the grim nature of the concept, and i suppose i'm not that surprised that as naruto goes on it pulls away from that
