Choosing You
Tumblr media
This is in response to this ask. How is Kaycee, a bonafide Swiftie, coping with the sad news? And how is Ethan coping with Kaycee?
Book: Open Heart Post Series
Pairing: Ethan Ramsey x MC (Kaycee)
Rating: Teen
Words: 1,200
Category: Fluff
A/N: Participating in @aprilchallenge Music, Hug, Love
I did this really quickly without a lot of time to check it, be kind. lol
Tumblr media
It almost hit sixty today. For April in Boston? A virtual heatwave! So it made perfect sense that the Esplanade was packed with people, Ethan Ramsey being one of them.
Unlike most others, he jogged there daily, regardless of weather conditions. Because of that,  he tended to be a bit territorial. But spring fever must have caught him, too. He had yet to utter a single curse, and he hadn’t once fantasized about frightening away the slowpokes who stepped in front of him. It was an unusual feeling, and only one thing would have made the day better… if Kaycee had joined him. But despite the beautiful weather, her mood didn’t seem as bright, so she chose to remain home.
She was shuffling into the living room when she heard his key in the door. Ethan could tell that her mood hadn’t improved with just a glance. Her hair was tied back in a messy bun, and her ratty old NYU sweats adorned her body. He knew her “comfort food look” and, boy, if this was ever it.
She barely glanced up at him as he stepped into the room, her eyes only shifting when he tossed a small paper bag onto the coffee table before her.
“What’s this?”  she asked glumly.
But her fiance merely smirked and walked away, returning moments later with two spoons in hand.
“Cherry Garcia,” he replied, and the slightest of smiles began to show on the corners of her lips.
“Fro yo?”
“Nope,” he grinned. “Ice cream! The good stuff!”
He clanged his spoon against hers as if it were a toast, then ripped the lid off the pint. Both spoons dug into the frozen delight at once.
“Mmm,” Kaycee hummed as the chocolate and cherry flavors burst on her tongue. “This is just what the doctor ordered!”
“Well, I am a doctor,” Ethan deadpanned, “and I did order it, so….”
Finally, what his heart had hoped the ice cream would help accomplish... a smile.
“You’re such a cornball,” she snickered, plunging her spoon back into the container for another scoop. “How’d ya know what I need?” she asked with a full mouth.
“Wow! I almost understood that,” he smiled, bopping Kaycee on the nose with his spoon. “I’ve paid attention to you the past few years… I know when ice cream is required. And… I know when that ice cream needs to be Cherry Garcia.”
“It was go big or go home, I see?” Kaycee chuckled. “Good call.”
Ethan threw his arm around her shoulder, taking in the scent of her lavender shampoo as he pulled her in close. She was happy to be in his arms but even happier because she had the remaining ice cream in hers.
“So, when were you going to break it to me?” He asked as Kaycee looked up at him with questioning eyes. “Don’t give me that look. I already know.”
“How’d you find out?”
“It’s sort of all over the news,” Ethan replied, “Plus, I believe a group of young women on the Esplanade were holding a memorial service.”
“Shit!” She snapped. “I knew I should have gone along with you!”
“I take it you had a eulogy planned?”
“No,” she frowned. “I had a toast ready for the engagement party… not this.”
“Uhm, for their engagement party or ours, dear?”
“Ethan!” She shoved him gently. “It’s too early for jokes.”
“Fine,” he chuckled. “But seriously, why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I knew you’d think I was being ridiculous.”
“Slightly,” he agreed. “But you think I’m being ridiculous at least eighty percent of the time, and you still seem to love me?”
“It’s ninety.”
“What?”
“I think you’re being ridiculous about ninety percent of the time, but I love you one hundred percent.”
“That’s good to know… I think.”
“Ethan!” she whined. “I’m so sad! Taylor and Joe were the cutest couple. How do you go from an album like Midnights… to this!”
“I don’t know,” he scratched his head. “Although I think You’re on Your Own, Kid may have been an Easter Egg.”
Kaycee looked up at him with amusement. While she hadn’t decided if it was appropriate yet, given the solemn occasion, she allowed herself to burst into laughter.
“Ethan Jonah Ramsey! You know what an Easter Egg is?”
“Sure, you said you wanted to dye some later… it is Easter, after all.”
“You’re funny, but the song reference! You know, she wrote that one with Jack Antonoff. But it could still be a clue. I’m looking at things through different eyes now… was Midnight Rain telling us something? I don’t know, maybe it was, I just think....”
“Kaycee…” he interrupted.
“Yes?”
“You need to slow down. I gave you the one song reference I had…, and I overheard the term Easter Egg at the mourning service, and I wanted to impress you. But if it’s time for the deep dive into recent song lyrics… I think Sienna may be your go-to.”
“You’re right,” she nodded with a smile, “but you have no idea how much I appreciate your effort.”
Her face turned glum again, and her eyes fell toward the melting treat in her hands.
“It’s sad, though,” she whispered. “I hate seeing love end… how do we… no….”
Ethan caressed her cheek, lifting her chin to face him.
“What did you want to say?”
“How do we know that won’t happen to us? No one ever thinks it will happen to them. Most people in love… they think it will be forever, and the truth is, for most, it’s not.”
“Come here,” he whispered. He took the ice cream from Kaycee’s hands and placed it on the table, then pulled her onto his lap. “I don’t think we can choose who we fall in love with,” he smiled. “Sometimes pain in the ass interns just walk into our lives, and we can’t help but give them our hearts.”
“Don’t you hate it when that happens,” she teased.
“May I finish?”
“Of course.”
“I don’t think we can help who we fall in love with, but I believe we can choose to stay in love. Love, relationships… marriage… it’s like anything else. All I know is every morning when I wake up, I choose to be with you, and I will keep making that choice. I don’t think marriages are always easy; I’m sure there will be hard times ahead, but as long as we wake up every day and choose in our hearts to be together… I have no doubt we’ll be OK.”
Kayee ran her fingers through his hair, tears welling in her eyes.
“Ethan,” she muttered. “When did you become this sweet?”
“I think you had something to do with it,” he grinned.  “You and probably all of Taylor’s lyrics that are swimming around in my brain now, whether I like it or not.”
“You like it!” she giggled.
“I like anything that comes along with you.”
She placed a quick peck on his lips and then another.  The next few moments were spent silently reminding her just how loved she was.  Then, when the last kiss broke, he looked into her eyes.
“I love you…. but you need to analyze every song on her last album now, don’t you?”
Kaycee eyed the clock and nodded.  “I do. I absolutely do. Sienna is off shift in five minutes.”
“Invite her over,” Ethan said, gently nudging Casey off his lap.  “I’ll start dinner for the three of us.”
“You… you don’t mind?”
“Not at all.  I choose to be with you… this craziness and all.”

What are your secret to staying so super productive and constantly improving your writing skills? How does your usual writing routine looks like? Who is your best advisor?
Thank you and congratulations on the crazy (imho) writing progress you achieved last year!
Oh hey! Wow! Thank you so much 😅
I know a couple of people have told me that my writing improved over the past months and I’m always getting anxious, like “okay how bad was it initially” 😂😂😂 I know that’s not what any of you means, but I do feel quite the opposite a lot of the time: Like I’m not improving at all, like I’m just repeating the same things over and over again.
So how do I improve my writing? I have no idea.
The only part I make a conscious effort on is vocabulary, because as a non-native speaker it’s easy to fall into the trap of settling on a bunch of words or expressions. I do that by reading! The more I read, the better. Sometimes I’ll read prose and I’ll go: oh wow that’s a nicely written paragraph. How did they do that… And then I take what I can from that and make it my own.
As for the amount of stuff that I’m writing – I think it has become a habit at this point. NaNoWriMo helped kickstart this, and luckily I’ve stayed at it. My routine is settling down with a coffee in the morning on my comfy chair, and then I’ll write on my phone. That, or omw to work. Or at home at my PC if I have time of course!
As for advisors… couldn’t put this all out without @aurasyn who hypes me up when I’m down and edits all my work (except drabbles) and feedbacks, especially things I’m unsure about. Loveeeeee her 🩷
I hope this was interesting and/or helpful! Thank you for sending such a kind and thoughtful ask 🥰

41, 43 and 50 please! xoxo
thank you angel!! 💕
41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”
ohhh fuck there are SO many. i am so continually inspired by the incredible writers in fandom. i count myself even more lucky that some of my favourite writers (you included!) are actually my irl friends now. completely wild to me.
all that said, the fic i consider the most well-written, exquisitely plotted and just all-round inspirational is the funny business series by arbitrarily@ao3. it's taskmaster RPF, charlotte ritchie/mike wozniak, and reads like a lost mary gaitskill work. i return to it over and over again. i'd like to hope that the old mindset that fic-writing isn't "real" writing is less prevalent now than it used to be, but i would defy anyone to read that series and still make that argument.
43. If you take/write prompts: what’s your favorite prompt fic that you’ve written?
oh, this is an easy one - playboy in the grotto, the landoscar piss kink fic that launched my current all-encompassing brain rot. emptyhalf@ao3 could not have requested a more pleasing concept.
i also really like this max/dan short fill i wrote absolutely years ago, for the prompt 'throne'. i don't usually write in such a heavily descriptive style (it's hard to sustain in a longer piece without getting very annoying) but i like what i was able to do with it over a couple hundred words.
50. Answer any question of your choice, or talk about anything you want to talk about!
oooh a dealer's choice!
i’ve been thinking a lot lately about what fandom and fic-writing has brought to my life. i am on the older side by fandom standards (mid-30s) and i think as a teen/younger person i always just assumed it was something i would grow out of? but i haven’t, and i think that’s a good thing.
fic sometimes gets a bad rap as being “not real writing”, i guess because it’s playing around in existing universes and using existing characters (and of course RPF gets its own share of snootiness, some of which i understand and some of which i reject utterly). but it’s brought SO MUCH to my life. it has improved my writing exponentially. it has pushed me out of my comfort zone in writing. it’s helped me work through break-ups, get-togethers; it’s helped me become more at peace with my sexuality and gender identity, it’s helped me express my sexuality and kinkiness. and it’s given me so many FRIENDS! like i mentioned above, i’m so lucky that i actually get to hang out with some of my favourite writers irl but i’ve also met so many great people just through the screen. and i’ve made so many incredible memories (jaguar garage klaxon) that i never would have were it not for fic.
the past few months have fucking sucked for me on a personal/real world level, and fic/fandom spaces have been such a gorgeous distraction and escape. so i just feel — lucky, i guess, to have it.
questions for fic writers!

Diabolik Lovers LOST EDEN ー Kanato Maniac [Prologue]
Tumblr media
Monologue
Right after hearing the conversation between Kino-kun and the Priest,
I ended up going back to my room.
I can only assume that at this very moment,
Kino-kun and the others are searching,
for the person who listened in on them.
Considering that,
I cannot flee the manor tonight.
Instead I gave up on escaping,
and pulled the sheets over my head while closing my eyes.
My mind wanders,
to the past days spent in bliss.
Taking me back to before I met Kanato-kun,
or the other Vampires.
These were memories from when I was living peacefully,
together with my fatherーー...
ー A flashback ensues as the scene shifts to Yui’s old room
*Knock knock*
*Creaaaak*
Seiji: Yui. Are preparations for Easter going well?
Yui: Yeah, of course.
I tried painting a couple of eggs. Father, will you take a look at them?
ー Seiji approaches her
Seiji: Wow, amazing!
You’ve improved a lot compared to last year. You must have really put in the work.
Yui: Thanks!
Seiji: However...
*Rustle rustle*
Yui: ...
Seiji: You shouldn’t lose yourself in it. You’ve got some paint stuck on your face, you see?
Yui: Ah...I’m sorry.
Seiji: Go and take a shower. I’ll prepare dinner in the meantime.
Yui: Are you sure? It’s my turn to make dinner tonight.
Seiji: Don’t sweat it. I had you work on the preparations for Easter all day long.
I have to show off my fatherly side every now and then.
Yui: Thank you, Father!
ー The flashback ends
Yui: ( My kind Father whom I loved so dearly... )
( However...Our peaceful life came to an abrupt end one day. )
( Father had suddenly been summoned by a foreign Church... )
And that’s how I was sent to the Sakamaki manor...ーー
...
( Thinking back, I’ve truly been through a lot... )
( Still, I can’t believe Father is back in Japan... )
I wonder why he never told me...?
( Could there be a reason why he couldn’t...? )
...!
( Now that I think about it, right after I arrived at the Sakamaki’s place, I doubted whether or not he was the one who had sent me there to be a sacrificial bride.... )
( Is that why he couldn’t tell me...? )
...Father.
( Why are you working with Kino-kun and his gang...? )
???: Hey.
Yui: ーー !
Kino: You heard the conversation I had earlier, didn’t you? It’s clear as day.
Yui: ...I’m sorry for listening in on you.
Kino: It’s fine, really. I don’t mind.
ーー Anyway, what are you gonna do? Do you want to meet your Father?
Yui: Well...
Kino: I can arrange that, you know? But only if you want...Okay?
Yui: ( Obviously, I’m not against the idea. )
( But...If I’m honest, I’m kind of scared to meet him right now. )
( I mean I’m in love with Kanato-kun, a Vampire. )
( There’s just no way that Father, being a Priest, could ever let that slide. )
( ...Besides. )
( If Father is truly the one who sold me to the Vampire clan. )
( It wouldn’t make sense for me to still want to meet him at this point... )
( What now? What answer do I give...? )
Kino: ...Seems like you’ve got the wrong idea.
Seiji climbed to the position of Bishop of the Japanese Church, all to get you back.
When he learnt that you had been sold as a sacrificial bride by the Church,
he decided to strip the previous Bishop who passed said order from his rank, taking charge himself.
Yui: ...So that’s what happened.
( Thank god. Father wasn’t the one who sold me... )
Kino: ...That being said, it was already too late.
While he may have risen to the top of the hierarchy, his only daughter was being held captive by Vampires.
Yui: ...
Kino: ...Hey, I’m sure you’ve figured it out by now, haven’t you?
The reason why that Priest came to visit earlier...was because of you.
In the end, humans are no match for Vampires.
That’s why they joined forces with us...Even though, under normal circumstances, they would never even dream of having to make a pact with Demons.
Yui: Join forces...?
Kino: Exactly. I’m actually the leader of a resistance squad consisting almost exclusively of Ghouls.
Yui: ( Are Ghouls a race of Demons...? Also a ‘resistance squad’, does that mean that Kino-kun is a rebel? )
( Is it their goal to prevent the Apple of Eden project, just like he mentioned before...? )
Kino: Come on, who cares about me right now?
I was just about to share some juicy information with you too.
Yui: Juicy...?
Kino: You see, we’ve been commissioned by the Church to save you from those Vampires.
Yui: !?
I can’t believe they’d go as far...As to request that from you.
Could it be that Father wants to take action against the Vampires in some way?
Kino: We have a winner! ...Fufu, they might just all end six feet under?
Seiji isn’t exactly fond of the idea of Demons having free rein in this world.
Yui: ...!
Kino: Alongside their request to save you, the Church also asked us to completely exterminate all Demons from the Human World.
While they previously chose a path of coexistence...
But with the Demon World’s leader Sakamaki Tougo...or in other words, Karlheinz now gone, it’s as good of a chance as ever, no?
Seems like they’re using this opportunity to put an end to said coexistence.
...Therefore, if you were to choose your Father, you’d make yourself Kanato’s enemy.
On the flip side, if you choose Kanato, you’ll have to say bye-bye to your Father...
Yui: No way...!
Kino: Say, what will you do?
Your Father or Kanato. You realize that there’s no way for you to choose both, right?
Yui: ...I...
( I can’t make such a decision on the spot. )
( Sure, at first I wanted to run and not get myself involved with Vampires... )
( But...Right now, Kanato-kun has become an incredibly important person in my life. )
( I’m scared that if I choose Father, I could potentially end up losing him... )
Kino: Well, you don’t have to choose right now, so why don’t you think it over before making a decision?
If you ever want to see your Father, I’ll arrange a meeting for you at any time.
However, I’d like to avoid getting backstabbed by the Church.
So I don’t plan on giving you back to them so soon.
Yui: ...
( I guess that makes sense. )
( While Kino-kun and his group might be working together with Father and the Church at the moment, they would usually not treat them all too kindly... )
( Once everything is over, Father and the others might even try to get rid of them. )
( Still...I wonder why he’s willingly letting himself get used then? )
( I wonder if besides hindering the Apple of Eden project, Kino-kun and his squad have yet another goal which is pushing them this far...? )
Kino: I’ll get going then. I’ve got plenty to do after all.
Yui: ( ...I probably shouldn’t ask right now. )
Y-Yeah...Thank you for all the information.
ー Kino leaves the room
Yui: ...Haah.
( I’m curious about Kino-kun’s plans too. )
( But right now, I’m even more so worried about Kanato-kun and the rest of the Sakamaki family... )
( I’m sure they have no clue that they’re being targeted by the Church and Kino-kun’s squad. )
( All other Demons are already after Kanato-kun as is now that he’s the head of the family. )
( I have to find a way to escape so I can at the very least inform him that danger is on its way. )
ー Yui takes a look into the hallway
Yui: ...There’s nobody here...?
( I was convinced there would be Familiars keeping guard... )
( ...It’s now or never! )
ー Yui flees the room as the scene shifts to the night sky
Kanato: ...
( I figured I’d be able to spot her from a place as high as Kaminashi Tower, but she’s nowhere to be seen... )
( ...I can’t sense her presence either... )
Security guard: ーー L-Lad! Get down from there!
Kanato: Hm...?
Security guard: I don’t know how you got up there, but it’s dangerous, you know!? This place is off limits!
If you can’t get down by yourself, I’ll come get you...! Just wait there, okay?
ー The security guard starts climing up
Kanato: ...Che. What a noisy pest.
*WOOSH*
Secuarity Guard: ーー Uguh!?
Uwaaaaah!!
ー He falls down and crashes against the ground
*THUD*
Tumblr media
Kanato: ...Serves you right.
ーー Perhaps you shouldn’t have gotten in my way.
Anyone who stands in my path, should simply disappear.
...
...Aah, I found you...Yui-san.
I’m thrilled knowing that you came to me instead.
I’ll come see you right away, okay? ...Fufu.
And then I’ll do you the favor of ending your life with my very own hands.
ー The scene shifts to the park
Yui: ( I fled here, but I probably shouldn’t stay in one place for too long... )
( Who knows when Kino-kun and the others will find mーー )
*THUD*
Yui: Eh...?
( I just heard a loud noise as if something fell on the ground... )
ー Yui steps closer
Yui: Kyaaaah!!
*Thud*
Yui: ( A corpse!? How!? )
???: I finally found you!
Yui: ーー !?
ー Kanato walks up to her
Kanato: I’ve been looking all over for you, Yui-san.
I’m here for you.
Yui: Kanato-kun...
( He seems different from usual. Like something feels off... )
Kanato: That body...Aah, he fell all the way down here.
Yui: Don’t tell me, you’re the one behind this...?
Kanato: Yes, exactly.
He had the nerve to try and get in my way, so I made quick work of him.
I mean, one less pathetic pest in this world barely makes a difference, does it?
Yui: Pathetic pest...You say...?
( I wonder how he can act so calm when he just killed a man...? )
ー Yui backs away
Kanato: Fufu...Why would you make that face?
Hey, don’t run away, please.
*Woosh*
Yui: Kyaah!?
( I can’t move...! Is he doing this with his magic as well!? )
K-Kanato-kun...Let me go!
Kanato: No. I mean, if I do, you’ll run, won’t you?
ー Kanato walks up to her
Kanato: Listen, Yui-san. I am planning to kill you.
Yui: ...Why...?
Kanato: I was at a loss...for the longest time.
Why did I get these powers which I never even wished for...?
Or why have my brothers started pushing me away?
But I came to a realization. That everything is your fault.
It was your very existence which pushed me to this point...causing me nothing but worries and messing with my heart.
Yui: ...!
Kanato: Once you’re gone, I will no longer have to suffer.
If I simply push you away from me...Some other guy might claim you as theirs.
*Cling*
Kanato: ーー Therefore, please die right here, right now.
I will be so kind as to kill you...with my whole heart.
Yui: N-No...! Stop! Kanato-kun!!
*Flap flap flap*
*CAW CAW*
Kanato: ...!
Yui: ( Eh...? )
???: Oh dear, you noticed already.
ー Kino appears
Kino: Good evening. My name’s Kino. I’m so happy we finally get to talk face-to-face.
Yui: ...Kino-kun, how?
Kanato: ...Do you know this guy?
Yui: Ah...
Kino: Ahaha, oh come on, don’t make that scary face.
I just looked after her for a bit, that’s all. I figured she’d be a great way to lure you out after all.
Yui: ( ...Then the security in the mansion was so loose because he tried to have me escape on purpose...? )
Kino: Sorry? But I didn’t see myself finding an opportunity to meet you without using this girl.
Kanato: ...Don’t refer to her so casually!
*WOOSH*
Kino: ーー Woah...All I want is to talk with you, that’s all.
But...Fufu, this seems fun so I’ll play along!
*Flap flap flap*
Kino: ーー Kanato’s magic is nothing to scoff at, so be very careful, okay?
*Flap flap flap*
Yui: ( The crows turned into people...!? )
Male Ghoul A: Understood, Kino-sama.
Male Ghoul B: We shall protect you at all costs.
Kanato: ...Ghouls? What are these guys doing here...?
Kino: They’re my comrades. They’re all great guys, you know.
I’m going to need you to behave for a bit, so I’ll have them help me with that. ...Like this.
ー The Ghouls throw a net on Kanato
*Rustle*
Kanato: Kuh...!
Kino: A spell has been cast on that net, so it won’t be so easy to break free.
Yui: ーー Kanato-kun!!
ー Yui tries to run up to him but Kino stops her
*Thud*
Yui: !?
Kino: Nuh-uh. You’re staying right here with me.
Or rather, you nearly got killed earlier, didn’t you? So perhaps you shouldn’t go save him?
Yui: B-But...
Kanato: You little pest...Don’t touch her!
*WOOSH*
Male Ghoul A: ...This guy, he broke through the spell like it was nothing!?
Male Ghoul B: Kino-sama, step back, please!
Kino: Ahー ...I guess that didn’t work after all.
You guys can transform back into crows. I’ll handle the rest.
...Yui. You should step back as well. You’ll die if you get hit by his magic, right?
Yui: Y-Yeah...
Kanato: ...What are you two whispering about behind my back!?
*WOOSH*
ー The park is set on fire
Monologue
The magic unleashed by Kanato-kun was so overwhelmingly powerful,
the park was consumed by a sea of flames,
in the blink of an eye.
And all I could do,
was watch from the side,
as the two of them fought it out...
It would seem that soon enough,
this would create quite the commotion,
as people began to gather around.
ー The crowd panics
Kino: ...Che. I guess we got noticed after all...
Kanato: Yui-san, this way!
Yui: Eh? ーー Kyaah!?
ー Kanato drags her away
Kino: Ahーah, what a shame. They got away as well.
I guess I shouldn’t have gone on the offensive. I should take that as a lesson...
...More importantly, right now...
ー People are still freaking out
Kino: Haah...I better make a run for it as well before this turns into a big ordeal.
ー The scene shifts to the entrance hall of the Sakamaki Castle
Kanato: ーー Step inside, please.
Yui: ...O-Okay...
*Thud*
Kanato: While there are a million things I would like to ask you...I suppose none of it still matters.
Because I doubt someone will come and bother us here any time soon.
ーー So I can finally kill you.
Yui: ...No!
ー Yui runs away
Kanato: You won’t get away!
ー Kanato chases after her as the scene shifts to one of the guest rooms
*Clunk*
Yui: ...Haah, haah...
( Kanato-kun is serious about this...! What now? Where else can I hide...ーー )
*THUD*
Yui: !?
Kanato: I know that you’re in there. Hey, come out already!
*THUD THUD*
Yui: C-Calm down! Kanato-kun!
I just can’t let myself get killed like this...!
*THUD*
Kanato: ...
...Oh well, I suppose it’s fine. I locked Ayato and the others down in the torture chamber and I doubt Kino knows about this place.
I should have plenty of opportunities to kill you, so I will offer you some respite.
Please use that time to beat yourself up over just how badly you messed with my emotions...
Yui: ...
( I’m stuck here all alone with Kanato-kun in the Demon World while he’s acting like this...Whatever will I do? )

Day 8
Okay! Time to write again. It’s kinda funny that I use the word “write” because this is really just an online diary. You “write”. I... word vomit onto Tumblr lol.
We texted a good bit today! I feel like I talked about myself a lot/ too much but, I sometimes run out of things to ask you about and your answers are typically straightforward. I hope you don’t think I’m like... narcissistic. I care VERY much about how things are going there and how you’re feeling. Tomorrow I plan to ask if things are going smoothly with your prescriptions or, if you’ve had to refill yet and, if that was as easy as you expected. This basically comes back to me believing that you aren’t emotionally available for me to even dig deep into how you really feel about things. Or... maybe I am just self centered? We’ll work it out in therapy :)
You seem okay! It’s so funny that I mentioned student loans yesterday because now I could get $10k to $20k taken off of my $29k debt and that is just AMAZING. I suppose $29k was not a TON compared to what others owe but, having so much knocked off is very motivating for me. I realistically feel like I can pay the new amount off in a reasonable amount of time which means it would likely not affect you at all, if we got married. Of course, the nursing program I’m interested in will be an additional $30k BUT I plan to utilize more resources this time around and at least I’d be starting off on a relatively clean slate instead of piling debt onto debt.
I miss you but, I’m working on so many self-improvements that it’s okay that you’re not here. It’s like I want you to come back to a completely changed person because wow it would suck if you came back after nearly a year and I hadn’t progressed whatsoever.
I’ve done some extra physical activity the past three days, including today and, I’m hoping to make a habit of it and really see changes in my body in the next couple of months (if I’m consistent). I am doing the absolute bare minimum but, hopefully my decent genes and youth can help me out lol.
Okay. I’ve talked enough about myself AGAIN. Hopefully I can get to bed soon. I love you so much and I hope I can be a wonderful and healthy partner for you and myself.

howard stern
I'M BACK BESTIES!!!!! i'm not totally back to my normal writing, but I finally got through a whole piece! anyways I really liked this and i hope you do too :)
warnings: howard stern being a bitch, talk of weight & body image
word count: 2.1k
"Hello Harry, how are you doing today?"
"I'm well, thank you," Harry answered with a smile. He was on the Howard Stern Show, his first interview since Stevie had been born. He hadn't really wanted to; Howard was kind of a prick. Everyone knew this, but Jeff was convinced this was the right move. He said it would be good for Harry to get back into the swing of things, and no one else was available on short notice. In the end, Harry only agreed because you had pushed him to, reminding him it wouldn't be a very long interview and then he wouldn't have to interact with the abrasive man again for a long time.
"That's good to hear," Howard said. "How have you been these past couple months? Have you been getting anything done?"
"Not much that's music related, honestly," Harry laughed. "I've been busy with family things."
"Yeah, you've kind of been hiding away from the world for a while here, what's that about?"
"Well, as I'm sure you already know, my wonderful wife had a baby recently, so I've been pretty busy... just navigating the world of fatherhood." A smile crept onto his face at the mention of Stevie.
"That's a lot, isn't it? Babies are awful at that age," Howard chuckled.
"Uh- I wouldn't say awful," Harry's smile dropped a little and he sighed internally. He already knew how the rest of this interview would go: thinly veiled insults, questions that were way too personal, and having to pretend he didn't want to get up and walk out of the room. But he knew that wouldn't be a very good look for him, so he gritted his teeth and tried to think of happy things. Specifically, the fact that he would get to go home to his wife and baby in less than two hours. "She's a very sweet baby, we're completely in love with her."
"Yeah, sometimes they're cute, but mostly they just cry and wake you up in the night, don't they?" Howard asked smugly, as if he knew Harry's baby better than Harry did.
"Well, of course she wakes up in the night sometimes. She's hungry, can't blame her for wanting food, can I?" Harry asked, trying to speak lightly and with a smile, but he could feel his patience slipping. He was ready to go home and he was not in the mood to pretend to be happy when this man was clearly insulting his child.
"Sure, I just wish babies could be a bit less annoying when they want something."
Harry nodded, plastering a smile that hopefully looked real on his face.
"So, besides the annoying baby, how's the family? Everybody healthy over there?"
Harry nodded. "Everybody's happy and healthy. A little sleep deprived, of course, but we're managing well, i think. And by we, I mean Y/N. She's truly... just amazing. I have no idea how she does it- she's the one keeping everything together. There's no way I could do any of this without her."
"Yeah, she seems pretty great! I remember though, at first we were all a little uncertain about her. She's not exactly like the other women you have a history with, is she?"
"She's-" Harry started talking, but Howard cut him off.
"I just mean, we were used to seeing you with models and actresses and the like, so it was a bit of a shock to see you with one of us commoners, you know?"
Harry huffed a small laugh, still trying to sound polite. "When you love someone, that's all that matters."
"Right, of course, but don't you get bored sometimes? You stopped going out so much when you got with her, almost like she was keeping you captive or something," He laughed.
"Are you asking me if my wife forced me to stop hanging out with my friends?" Harry squinted at the man.
"No, of course not, but..." He leaned closer with a malicious gleam in his eye, like he was about to hear some big secret. "Did she?"
"No," Harry said firmly. "She did not."
"Okay, okay, if you say so," Howard put his hands up, but then he leaned in again and spoke in an exaggerated whisper. "Blink twice if you need help."
Harry played it off with a laugh, crossing his arms over his chest.
"He's good," Howard laughed loudly. "Anyways, let's move on. Since you two are supposedly so happy-" He paused again, as if he expected Harry to cut it and give some dramatic confession about how terrible his relationship was behind closed doors. Harry only raised his eyebrows, signaling him to continue talking. "Tell us about that. When did you two get married again?"
"Almost 2 years ago," Harry said with a smile. "Our anniversary is coming up, actually, it's in 3 weeks."
"Oh wow, you guys moved fast with the whole kid thing, huh?"
Harry nodded. "We both knew we wanted kids and were ready to have them, so... yeah."
"Yeah, no point wasting time, right? How was Y/N after having the baby- Stevie, right?"
"Yeah, her name is Stevie," Harry smiled. "She was good. Again, she's amazing for going through that. She's- i'm just so lucky to have her."
"Did she bounce back right away?"
"I'm sorry?" Harry's brow furrowed.
"You know, did she get her figure back fast? I know that's a big issue for some women," He laughed again.
"Are you-" All traces of Harry's smile were gone now.
"I just mean, I hope she's working to get rid of the baby weight," Howard said casually, as if his words weren't extremely rude. "Just to make sure she can fit into her old clothes!"
Harry cleared his throat. He knew he had to speak very carefully, since this was something you had been very self conscious about. "Well, the two of us are concerned with the new life she brought into the world, not some old clothes, but she looks as beautiful as ever. The amount of pressure women face to live up to certain standards is disgusting to me, and it's especially bad for new mothers. My wife just went through an incredible process, she grew an entire human being in 9 months, then went through labor and the delivery, and she's being told to worry about her figure? That's wrong."
"Right, right, of course," Howard smiled, but Harry could tell he was annoyed at how he couldn't be tricked into speaking badly about his wife.
"I'm really over the whole thing, honestly," Harry said. "And I'm not even the one going through it."
Howard laughed nervously, seeming to finally take the hint that Harry was uncomfortable and annoyed with the topic. "Let's talk about your latest movie, why don't we?"
Harry was closed off through the rest of the interview; anyone could see that. He laughed less, his arms stayed crossed, and his answers were short. He was professional, but it went no farther than that. There was no more playful joking or easy conversation, just Harry trying to get through the interview as fast as he could. When it finally came to a close after his final song, Harry couldn't pack up fast enough. He made sure to say a polite thanks and goodbye before he hurried out to his car.
He sighed deeply before picking up his phone to call you.
"Hi baby!" your happy voice came from the other end. That was good, he assumed that meant you hadn't listened to the interview yet.
"Hi love," he smiled, his mood already improving just from hearing your voice. "Did you listen to the interview?"
"I have been- I couldn't right at the beginning, Stevie was crying, but I caught the end. Why?"
"Why was she crying?" Harry ignored your question, instantly worrying about his baby.
"Sometimes babies cry for no reason, Harry. She's okay, I promise. Anyways, what's up with the interview?"
Harry sighed. "Just the normal for a Howard Stern interview- he asked some very personal and rude questions. Just prepare for that."
"What else is new?" You laughed. "Are you coming right home?"
"Yeah, unless you need anything?"
"Nope, I think I'm good. See you soon!"
"Love you, bye," Harry said, ending the call and starting the car to begin the drive home.
-----
"I'm home," Harry called, removing his coat as he walked in the door.
"We're in here," you responded, not moving from your spot on the couch where you were nursing Stevie.
Harry walked in, a small smile on his face as he looked at the two of you.
"Hi," He sighed, plopping down on the couch next to you.
"That bad, huh?" You asked, taking in his dejected tone.
He hummed in response, leaning his head on your shoulder. "Those interviews are... always something."
"Yeah, I only caught the end, but you sounded pretty upset. What did he say?"
"He just..." Harry shook his head. "I don't think you should listen to it."
You turned your head to look at him. "Why not?"
"He's just very rude and pushy, as always."
"Yeah, i figured, but I wanted to hear your songs," you argued with a small frown. "Did he say something really bad, or...?"
"He just makes some very impolite comments about you and our family."
"Oh," You nodded lightly. "I think I'll be okay, baby. I appreciate you trying to protect my feelings, but I'm used to it at this point, and I really couldn't care less about his opinion of me."
"Alright," he sighed. "If you're sure." He pulled out his phone, checking his email and going through some messages while you started the interview from the beginning. You could hear him grumbling under his breath and huffing every time Howard said something rude, but you ignored it, just laying a hand on his leg to calm him down.
By the time it was over, Harry was clearly not too happy. "I can't believe I went back on that show," he shook his head. "I'm never doing that again. I'm so sorry about what he said about you, I honestly should have just left-"
"It's okay," you cut him off with a smile. "Also, it was kind of hot to hear you get mad at him."
"Yeah?" He smiled back. "I thought I was very tame, actually. I wanted to say some other things, but I figured that wouldn't be a very good look for me."
"Right, but the way you attacked him but stayed professional... very hot," you laughed, leaning in to kiss his cheek. "I love you so much."
"I love you too," He smiled, turning his head to kiss your cheek in return. "Is she done? I really need to hold her after the day I've had," He sighed dramatically, throwing his head back.
"I'm sure," you laughed, handing Stevie over to him and pulling your shirt back into place. "She's all yours."
"Hi baby," he cooed, holding her close to his chest. "I missed you so much."
Stevie yawned in response, cuddling into him.
"Oh, you missed me too?" He grinned. "See that? She missed me."
"She did," You agreed. "She was looking around when she heard your voice on the interview, she wanted to know where you were."
"I'm sorry," he pouted down at her. "I'll never go away again, and I'll never let the bad man be mean to you again."
"I don't think she's too upset about it, Harry," you laughed. "She is only 3 months old. She didn't exactly understand anything that went on."
"Excuse me," he said, looking very offended. "She may only be 3 months old, but she's very smart."
"Right, she's a genius baby, how could I forget?"
"I don't know," Harry shook his head at Stevie. "How could she forget how smart you are, hmm?"
Stevie yawned again, stretching her arms above her head.
"She's ready to take a nap," you said.
"Can I just hold her? I know it's not a good habit, to let her be held to sleep, but I don't want to put her down yet," Harry said, looking up with such pleading eyes, you couldn't possibly say no. Not like you would have said no anyways, but he didn't need to know that.
"Of course you can," you stood up, kissing his forehead before you turned away. "I'm gonna do the dishes, then we can watch something if you want."
"No, let me do those," he immediately protested.
"Harry, it's okay, I haven't done anything around the house since she was born-"
"And I'm not about to let you start now," he cut you off. "Come back here, please? Let's start that new show we were looking at the other night."
"Fine, but later I'm going to help you with the dishes."
"Fine," he smiled, agreeing with your compromise, even though you both knew he would argue later. "Now come back here."

___
Spring Break was imminent for the kids of Guang University. It was your freshman year and your friends all had different plans. You planned to stay home and get a head start on your homework and catch up on all of your favorite Korean dramas.
You headed out of the school with Haechan, your best friend. He had plans to go visit his family in South Korea for a couple of days. You were bummed that your closest friend wouldn’t be in town for the break.
“You sure you don’t want to come to Seoul with me? We might bump into Ji Chang Wook. You never know.” Ji Chang Wook was your celebrity crush.
You balanced your giant biology textbook while you tried to find your phone. “That’s tempting but I have a big exam right after break and I’ve been behind for weeks...So now I have to cram.”
Haechan sighed. “Y/n, you need to give yourself some down time.”
You frowned. “What are you talking about?”
Haechan sighed. “You haven’t come out to any parties in the past two months.”
You sighed. “Well...”
Haechan whined. “You’re supposed to be my party buddy...”
“Well, party buddy, then explain Daniela, Hazel, and Ally,” you said, calling out your best friend for not being so lonely at these parties after all.
“I-“ Haechan started.
Before Haechan could explain, a group of girls you’d tried so hard to avoid walked by and “accidentally” bumped into you, making you drop your book to the ground.
The girl who bumped into you turned and laughed. “I’m SO sorry. Maybe if you didn’t take up so much space, it wouldn’t have happened.”
The other girls laughed as they began to saunter off.
You groaned. You thought bullies retired once they graduated from high school when reality finally gave them a slap to the face.
Well, unfortunately for you, the mean girls from your old high school were smart enough to get into your dream school so you now occasionally saw them. And worse, shared a biology lab with them. The head of the pack, Heather, always had it out for you for always beating her for the best grade in class. You’d get a 94 and she’d get a 93. You were just happy to get an A and she was furious she wasn’t number 1. You guessed it had to do with her superiority complex and how she had to please her wealthy parents.
Haechan yelled, “Heather, what the hell-“
Heather started, “What? It’s a simple observation.”
Well, not everyone could be a size 0 like Heather. You knew that you had a healthy body shape. Sure, you know you could use improvements but you were human. No one was perfect. Nothing Heather could say could make you think she was right. She was just a hater.
“Have a nice break, Heather. Maybe your dad will finally come home,” you said as you grabbed Haechan’s hand and walked off.
“Hey! y/n, get back here!” Heather demanded. Her dad and her mom were separated for a while now and he was never home to spend time with his precious daughter.
Heather’s bark had always been bigger than her bite. So you didn’t let her words get to you. Not anymore.
___
Haechan went home while you waited to call an Uber to take you to the record store across town.  You may as well go out and do one fun thing before you hunkered down at home for the break.
That was when you heard someone sobbing hard. And you couldn’t help but find the source.
The boy sat down on a bench by the bus stop. It was the campus heartthrob, Na Jaemin. You’d shared a couple of lectures with him this year. He was very sweet, always had something to compliment you on. Your hair, your lipstick, your outfit.
Well, then he would proceed to ask for help with assignments but you appreciated getting paid with flattery.
You frowned. “A-are you okay?” You started. “Do you need help?”
Jaemin looked up as tears ran down his beautifully sculpted face. His eyes widened at the sight of you. He wiped his tears away with his jacket sleeve. He shook his head. “Y/n! Hey, I’m…okay…I just-“
You sat down beside him and pulled an unopened bottle of water out of your backpack. You handed it to him. “Here.”
He looked down at it and asked, “Are you sure?”
You nodded. “Go ahead.”
“Thank you,” he said, managing a half-smile.
He drank from it as you waited.
He exhaled in satisfaction. “Thank you, y/n. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you like this. School and work have been so stressful…I just needed to let it all out.”
You hesitated before you put a hand on his back. You moved it gently against his muscular upper back. “I’m sorry…Do you…wanna talk about it?”
Jaemin froze and debated telling you. “I got fired from my job…” He admitted.
You removed your hand from his back. “Jaemin, that’s terrible…I’m so sorry…What happened?”
He shook his head. “The boss was kinda harsh. I couldn’t take it. I slipped up once and I got the ax.”
You tried to meet his eyes. “I’m so sorry, Jaemin.”
Jaemin managed a smile for you. “Thank you, y/n. You’re always sweet. Always good. I’m glad you’re here with me.” He placed a hand over yours.
This may or may not have made you want to scream with excitement. But your better judgment told you to contain yourself because Jaemin was upset.
Your little moment was interrupted by Heather and her cohorts.
Heather stood in front of Jaemin, noticing his red eyes “Oh, Nana, what’s wrong?”
Jaemin didn’t look all that thrilled to see Heather either. “It’s nothing…Don’t worry about it.”
“Because if y/n is bothering you, she should leave. Isn’t that right, y/n?” Heather turned to you with her hands on her hips.
You were about to snap when Jaemin beat you to it. “Actually, Heather, she’s not. So what can I do for you so you can leave faster?”
Heather looked at her group in shock. Her minions all let out audible gasps and whispers. “Jaemin...”
“I’m waiting,” Jaemin said, a new commanding tone overtaking him.
“We wanted to know if you’re coming to my cabin this weekend.” She tried to come off flirtatious but after his rebuff, she was confused.
“Maybe,” Jaemin replied, “If y/n comes.”
“What?” You and Heather exclaimed.
“I’ll go if y/n goes,” Jaemin said resolutely.
You started, “Jaemin, I-”
Jaemin interrupted. “I need this, y/n. A time to get away. And if you come, I would love it…” He said softly, almost intimately…Like no one else was around.
You’d had a crush on Jaemin since the first day of Intro to Theater. Jaemin was a tremendous actor. He was an excellent Demetrius to your Helena in your act for A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Jaemin was always so nice. You thought the most he would do for you is give you a dollar for the vending machine. And that would’ve made your heart soar to the moon.
It was odd that you were considering going somewhere to hang out with Heather and her friends...But you did want to get to know Jaemin more.
What about your homework?
Well, it could wait.
And what about Heather?
Well, pissing off Heather was a hobby of yours.
One of Heather’s friends coughed. And Heather rolled her eyes. “Fine. Meet at my house at 7 AM tomorrow.”
___
Your older sister Sophie drove you to Heather’s. “Why are you going to Lucifer's spawn’s cabin?”
You sighed. “Because a cute boy asked me to.”
Sophie put the car in park right in front of Heather’s mansion. She looked at you in disbelief and fascination. “A boy?”
You said, “He wanted me to come.”
Sophie laughed. “Well, y/n, he must be very cute if you’re willing to hang out with Her Royal Darkness.”
“Like her ego, I’m sure the cabin is big enough so I don’t have to see her.”
You were both so distracted that you didn’t notice Jaemin knock on your passenger side window. He smiled brightly. Wow, he looked incredible for someone who woke up and texted you good morning at 5:30 AM.
“Wow,” your sister said, in shock from Jaemin’s beauty. She rolled down your window.
“Ready to go, y/n?” Jaemin asked. You saw the expectant look in his eyes. He was radiant and much more relaxed. You were so happy to see him. He seemed to feel a lot better.
“Jaemin, this is my older sister, Sophie,” you said, “Sophie, this is my friend Jaemin.”
They shook hands and Sophie muttered, “You better tell me everything when you get back. And that I am the maid of honor at your wedding.”
“Bye, Sophie! We’ll go on our run together when I come back on Sunday, okay?” You said louder to deflect from what Jaemin could’ve overheard. You and Sophie ran together every weekend for stress relief and bonding time. You got out of the car and hoped Jaemin hadn’t heard anything.
Jaemin offered to give you a ride on his Jeep Explorer to Heather’s cabin, much to Heather’s disappointment. Heather’s friends were riding with her.
You and Jaemin had fun on the road for two hours, just the two of you. You enjoyed some old school Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, and Britney Spears. You snagged the CDs from your sister’s collection.
“Every little thing I do never seems enough for you!” You and Jaemin sang.
You too had gotten off the route to get snacks at a convenience store and because Jaemin needed to fill up his tank. He insisted you put your wallet away. He bought all of your favorite junk food essentials: M&Ms, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, Coke, Orange Fanta. This boy knew his way into your heart.
“So, y/n, what’s your end goal in life?” He asked as he continued the route to Heather’s cabin. “You strike me as an aspiring pediatrician...Saving the children!”
You laughed at his enthusiasm. “I’d like to be a physical therapist. My parents got into a car accident when I was nine...My mom was fine but my dad broke his right leg and right arm. He needed to get physical therapy in order to walk properly again...I went with him to almost all of his appointments. I have a lot of respect for physical therapists after how much they helped him…”
“I’m glad your dad recovered,” Jaemin said as he gave you a quick smile before gluing his eyes back onto the road.
“Me, too...But...my end goal in life? Honestly, I just want my own space to dance around in...With no shame.”
Jaemin chuckled. “No shame, huh? Does that mean you’re a terrible dancer?”
You smacked him. “No. Well, I’m sure there are worse dancers.”
He laughed harder. “Okay...I believe you.”
You laughed. “What about you, Jaemin? What’s your end goal?”
He sighed. “Start up my own content-creating company...I’m into traveling and uncovering hidden gems. Be the next big thing after Buzzfeed Unsolved.”
“Those are some pretty big shoes to fill…” You started.
Jaemin sounded unsure. “Yeah…”
You smiled, “I know you can do it. You’ve got a subscriber in me.”
Jaemin faked a tear. “You have no idea how much that means to me.”
You both laughed again as you reached for the M&Ms and your hands touched. You quickly pulled away, embarrassed. But Jaemin smiled to himself.
Jaemin said, “But as cheesy as it sounds...I want to get married, get a big house, and fill it with twelve children.”
You coughed. “Twelve? Are you and your future wife thinking of splitting the pregnancies up?”
Jaemin laughed. “Okay, maybe not twelve...But a family of my own is my dream. My parents split up when I was five so...I’ve split my time between two homes and it was an awkward feeling, especially after both of my parents remarried.”
“Oh…” You said. You couldn’t exactly sympathize with him because your parents were happily married so you didn’t want to say anything that could rub him the wrong way. That was the last thing you wanted.
“I want to be with that one person...For the rest of my life...When I meet her, I’ll know.” He said, giving you a meaningful look.
You had no idea how to process that so you took a sip of your blue raspberry ICEE and held it in the air, awkwardly. “Here’s to you finding your soulmate someday.”
He chuckled. “Thank you.”
___
You arrived at Heather’s summer home...Well, she called it a cabin. But it was actually a mansion by the beach. It was gorgeous. Something straight out of a movie. It looked like it could be its own hotel resort. You realized that there was a good chance you’d have your own room.
“This house is huge!” You exclaimed.
Jaemin looked along with you as he handed you your bag. “What a shame. I was hoping we would room together.” He said softly into your ear.
You turned to him in shock and he shot you his infamous flirty grin. This boy had you thinking he liked you and he’d better stop before you tried to kiss him.
Heather handed everyone keys to their bedrooms. “If any of you lose this copy, I can’t help you.” She made sure to say that as she handed you your keys.
You went up the stairs of the beach house and chose the last room on the left. You were unlocking the door to your room when someone from behind you tapped you on the shoulder.
“Hey, you’re y/n, right?” You recognized Yangyang from your mandatory PE class. You both took Intermediate Swimming, a class where as long as you flailed in the water and passed the easy quizzes, you’d be guaranteed an A.
You nodded. “And you’re…”
He said, “I’m Yangyang. It’s so nice to see you here!”
“You, too,” you said, averting your eyes once again. Yangyang was pretty attractive and you hoped he didn’t remember you and your Sailor Moon one piece. You always tried to be one of the first in the water and the last to leave when it came to your swimming class.
Even though Heather’s comments were nothing to you, it didn’t mean you were completely immune to the hurt it caused.
“You were in Coach Emerson’s swim class, right? You had the iconic Sailor Moon swimsuit.”
And there went the rest of your hopes and dreams. “Y-yeah…”
He laughed. “Don’t be embarrassed. I had Dragon Ball Z swim trunks.”
“Really?” You said.
Yangyang pretended to be hurt and winced. “I thought you’d be the one to notice.”
“Well...I’m not exactly looking at anyone’s...body…” You said, cringing at your words.
He laughed. “Fair point. I just liked the pattern. Your favorite character is Sailor Mars, right?”
You nodded, “Hell yeah. She’s the best.”
“I’m more of a Sailor Venus guy, myself,” he replied.
“Good taste. But all of the Sailor Scouts are queens,” you started.
“No question,” Yangyang said. “Hey, do you-” His phone started to ring. “Sorry, y/n...I gotta take this.”
You waved goodbye to him and entered your spacious bedroom. As much as Heather despised you and you despised her, her family had excellent taste in real estate. The queen-sized bed was plush like a cloud straight from heaven. You pulled the window up to feel the ocean breeze. It was paradise.
You heard a knock at your door an hour later. It was Jaemin.
“Wanna go for a walk?” He asked.
“Sure!” You said, having already changed into a sundress.
Jaemin thought you looked stunning. Well, you always did. He was so happy to be here with you. Otherwise, he may not have gone on this trip.
Jaemin led you to the beach where you let your toes touch the water. He teased you by splashing you. And you splashed him back until you both were soaked.
You both laughed so hard that you toppled over each other, you on top of Jaemin. You both stared at each other for a long time. Jaemin closed his eyes, his long eyelashes caressing his cheeks. He waited for you to kiss him.
You moved closer and your lips met his. His lips tasted salty thanks to you and your merciless splashing. But the kiss was everything. It was fireworks at the end of a perfect night. It was hot chocolate on a warm winter night. It was like an angel held you and you snuggled against his wings. The kiss was perfect.
You two let go and Jaemin bit his lip. “So.”
You stood there, frozen. “So…”
“So...we did that.”
You nodded. “Indeed we did.”
“Thoughts?” He looked at you with his big brown eyes.
You cleared your throat. “Well...I certainly wouldn’t mind doing that again.”
Jaemin’s big gorgeous goofy smile came back full force at hearing you. He cupped your face in his hands and was about to kiss you again.
“Guys!” Naeun called out to you. “Have you seen Yangyang?”
You and Jaemin pulled yourselves apart. You answered, “Last time I saw him was when he went to his room. Is everything okay?”
“He wasn’t answering his phone...And I found it in his room.” She held up his phone that had a Dragon Ball Z pop socket on the back of it.
You frowned. “That’s weird.”
Jaemin offered. “Maybe he went for a walk. Got some fresh air?”
“Maybe…” Naeun thought and you nodded. “If you see him, tell him I’m looking for him and that I’m pissed.”
“Okay,” you said.
Naeun stomped away, frustrated.
“Now where were-” you started.
Jaemin already pulled you in for another kiss. He pinned you down against the shoreline and trailed your neck with his kisses.
You breathed heavily as you held him tightly.
He looked at you, as if asking you something.
You gave him a look. “What’s up?”
“Do you want to…” His eyes moved down to his pelvic region where his member was protruding through the fabric of his trunks.
Your eyes widened at how big he was. And your eyes nearly popped out of your head when you realized what he was asking. “Oh…”
Jaemin waited for you patiently.
Things were moving too fast. You were more than happy to kiss Jaemin all night but you really weren’t ready to have sex. Not tonight, anyway.
You already knew the answer. “I’m sorry Jaemin. I do like you but...I’m...not ready. I should go…” You got up but Jaemin stopped you. It was like a romantic Korean drama scene, except instead of your wrist ...He grabbed your ankle.
“It’s okay...You don’t have to go. Please don’t go…” He begged as he made a puppy dog pout.
You laughed, relieved. “Okay okay...You can stop making that face.”
Jaemin pouted his lips even more. “What face?”
You rolled your eyes and splashed him. You and Jaemin spent a couple of hours on the beach, kissing and talking. You wrapped up and he walked you to your bedroom.
___
You woke up early the next morning to hear screaming and crying. You got out of bed and ran out the door.
“What’s wrong?” You asked, finding Naeun devastated on the floor. Heather sat down with her on the ground and consoled her.
“Yangyang…” She said between sobs. “He’s gone!”
Renjun looked grave as he handed you his phone. “We all got these messages. Did you, y/n?”
You looked at what was on Renjun’s phone screen and there was a video of Yangyang, bound up and gagged. Tears streamed down his eyes. He mumbled loudly for help.
Tears fell out of your eyes. “What the hell is this?”
You couldn’t believe it. You’d just had a whole conversation with him yesterday. He was friendly and funny…
And now he was like this.
Jaemin replied, “Someone’s idea of a sick joke...I don’t recommend looking at the rest of the story, y/n…”
You ignored him and kept watching. The next video pointed to a wall and you could hear Yangyang clearly now...He was yelling. “No! Who are you? Why are you doing this? Stop! Nooooooo!” The video cut off after that. The last picture was of Yangyang with his throat slit with text that read: “Wonder who will be next...It’s anyone’s guess, really. 🧐 #springbreak2020”
You ran into the bathroom and threw up. The rest of the group followed you into the bathroom. “Well, y/n?” Tzuyu started.
“Well, what?” You asked.
“Show us your phone,” Tzuyu demanded.
“Why?” You asked.
Jaemin intervened, “Why are you guys ganging up on her?”
“We’ve checked everyone’s phones...Now we want to see y/n’s,” Tzuyu said, a vindictive look in her eyes.
“Fine,” you said. You pulled it out of your pocket and you were shocked to find the messages on your phone.
“Someone sent them to her, too. She’s as innocent as the rest of us,” Renjun said.
Tzuyu frowned. “Okay…”
She seemed disappointed that you weren’t the culprit. You wondered why Tzuyu hated you. She was merely one of Heather’s followers so you guessed she would hate anyone Heather hated no matter what.
Still, this didn’t alleviate any of your worries. Someone kidnapped and murdered Yangyang overnight. And whoever that was remained close by.
And they weren’t finished.
Unfortunately for all of you, your cell reception was weak so you couldn’t contact the police. You were on the verge of a panic attack.
Renjun decided, “We should try going to the next town to get reception.”
Tzuyu started, “You are not leaving me here.”
“Fine, we’ll go together.” He said as they both walked off and borrowed Heather’s car.
___
You sat in the living room, scared to be in your room all alone. Hell, you didn’t mind being with Heather and Naeun. Jaemin was making lunch in the kitchen for you guys.
It had been a few hours since Renjun and Tzuyu left. Now you were all getting worried. The next town wasn’t that far off, according to Heather. So something was up.
And you wondered if it had been a good idea for them to leave. Maybe they had been just as much in danger as the rest of you. Whoever the killer was...He had resources to be anywhere at any time. It gave you shivers.
“Y/n, can you get Naeun a glass of water?” Heather asked you.
You nodded and met Jaemin in the kitchen. You asked him once again, “Are you sure I can’t help with anything?”
Jaemin shook his head. “I’ve got this.” He said as he finished making lasagna.
You got a glass of water for Naeun. “Jaemin, I’m scared,” you said.
Jaemin looked rattled up, too, but he seemed to be holding it together for the rest of you. And it meant a lot to you.
The four of you sat down to eat quietly. Naeun barely took a bite of her lasagna.
Not too long after, she started wheezing. Hives broke out onto her skin. “Epi...Pen...Heather.”
Heather jumped out of her seat. “I’ll go get it!”
“Oh God,” you panicked. “You need air! Let’s go outside, Naeun.”
You and Jaemin helped her out to the front door so she can breathe better. You were praying Heather found her EpiPen soon.
Heather returned, upset, “Are you sure it’s in your purse? I couldn’t find it.”
Naeun nodded. “Yes…”
When you realized Naeun’s EpiPen was missing, you ran up to your room and grabbed yours. “I brought mine!”
“Hurry up!” Heather said.
You ran back down and Naeun was able to get the injection she needed to recover from her reaction.
Heather took Naeun up to her room to recover.
“I wonder what Naeun was allergic to…” You said to Jaemin.
Jaemin frowned. “I don’t know...I had no idea she had severe allergies. Maybe it was in one of the ingredients but I’m not sure which one…God, I feel terrible.” He put his face in his hands.
“Hey, it’s okay...It was an accident...She’ll be okay,” you said as you hugged him.
“It was a good thing you had your EpiPen, y/n...You’re amazing…”
“Or I just have severe allergies, too,” you said.
He laughed awkwardly. “Right…”
Even more hours passed. Renjun and Tzuyu haven’t returned. Everyone was antsy.
You and Jaemin were going to go out and look for them but you were shocked to find his tires had been slit recently.
This wasn’t a coincidence. The killer was watching your every move. You wondered if he had gotten to Renjun and Tzuyu. Your throat dried up at just thinking that.
You and Heather grabbed weapons from her father’s shed, which included gardening shears and hunting rifles.
Heather taught you how to handle the rifle. You both went back into the house with your weapons in tow. You all made sure to shut all of the windows and close all of the doors. You scoured the entire property. No one can come in. And no could come out. You hoped there wasn’t some random secret entrance to this house that rich people always seemed to have in the movies. You all reluctantly headed to bed.
You sat up on the edge of your bed. You were comfortable in a concert tee and some shorts. You wanted to wear something that would be easy to run in. Just in case the killer would come for you next.
Jaemin was at your door. “Hey…Heather and Naeun both fell asleep.”
“How can they be asleep...I can’t sleep knowing that that bastard is out there…” You said.
Jaemin walked into the room. “Can I sit with you?”
You nodded. “Jaemin, what are we going to do...We can’t just stay here. We're sitting ducks. Renjun and Tzuyu are just gone...And we don’t know when or even if they're coming back…”
Jaemin rubbed your back in small circles. His touch was distracting. Kissing Jaemin would be a great distraction.
Making love to him would be even better.
That would be ridiculous. The last thing you wanted to do was have sex when a murderer was afoot. That would be a total cliche.
Jaemin replied. “I’m sorry, y/n...I think our best bet is to wait it out until morning and go to the next town on foot.”
You nodded. “Yeah...Maybe daytime will be safer.”
Jaemin nodded. “Why don’t you go to sleep and I’ll take the first shift?”
“Really?” You asked.
“Yeah, I’m wired. I had three cups of coffee in the past hour. You need to rest, y/n.” Jaemin said as he pulled the covers over you. “I’ll come back to wake you. I’ll be on guard.” He grabbed one of the hunting rifles he left outside the door.
“Thank you,” you said as you shut your eyes. Sleep quickly took over.
___
You were quickly shaken awake. “Y/n get the fuck up!” Heather hissed.
“Heather?” You exclaimed.
She shushed you. “Shut up. You need to come with me right now.”
“What’s wrong?” You whispered.
Heather made sure your door was locked before she returned back to you. “Naeun is dead.”
You looked carefully at Heather and had seen that she’d been crying. “What?” You asked. “That’s impossible.”
“We shouldn’t have left her alone. She said she was fine. She seemed fine. I went to check on her and...she wasn’t breathing. And...I think she was smothered, y/n.”
“Wait...Are you saying…”
“The killer is Jaemin,” Heather said.
“What? Why would you say that?” You shook your head.
“Think about it, y/n. None of us has good reception here so how is that we got those texts about Yangyang? The killer had to be in close proximity to us. Tzuyu and Renjun left in my car, which he probably messed with so they got into an accident...And...I don’t even want to say what could’ve happened...Whatever Jaemin put in the lasagna almost killed Naeun. Then, her EpiPen fucking disappeared. And then, conveniently right after, his tires were slit. And now, since he couldn’t finish the job the first time, he smothered Naeun to death.”
“Heather...Jaemin wouldn’t…” You started.
“I know...I had my doubts, too, but...he gave me some calming tea before I went to sleep...When it cooled down, I tested it...It’s been drugged.”
Your heart sank. “How do you know?”
“My dad’s company is working with the nail polish that can track date rape drugs. My painted nail changed color when I tested it out. Jaemin tried to drug me, y/n…” She showed you her neon green polish and the one fingernail that turned black.
You covered your hand over your mouth.
“I had a feeling he would come check up on me so I tossed some of the tea down the drain and pretended I was asleep. He came back to check that I was asleep, y/n...That’s just creepy. Why the hell would he need to drug me?”
Not knowing how to answer, you started, “Heather...Maybe…”
Jaemin surprised you both by breaking the wood of the door down with an ax. He made a big enough hole to unlock the door from the inside.
You and Heather yelled. Jaemin heard everything.
Jaemin started. “Heather, why are you up? I thought I was going to take care of you tomorrow in my grand finale…”
“Shit,” Heather said as she got closer to you.
“Jaemin? What grand finale?” You demanded. “What is going on?”
Jaemin smiled wide at you. “Sweetheart, I thought I told you to sleep.”
The look in Jaemin’s eyes became cold...Calculating.
“y/n...It’s no accident that I asked for you to come on this trip…” Jaemin said as he pulled a knife out of his pocket and twirled it around his hand. “I thought you’d partake in the festivities…”
“What festivities?” Heather demanded. “Why the fuck did you try to drug me? Why did you kill Naeun? What the hell did she do to you?”
Jaemin tsked as he met Heather’s eyes. “Why wouldn’t I kill Naeun? Why wouldn’t I kill them all? Think about it, you ungrateful little brat.”
You found yourself moving closer to Heather then for she was your only living ally. Albeit the biggest bitch in the land.
Jaemin killed everyone.
Jaemin was the killer.
Heather shook her head. “Jaemin, stay the fuck away from us. I swear to God. Or I’ll-”
Jaemin chuckled. “You’ll what? Call Daddy? Call Mommy? They’re both abroad, never giving a second thought about their spoiled daughter...Those two think you couldn’t be safer and more comfortable…It’s ridiculous...A girl who has everything...Takes it upon herself to put others down...You’ve put y/n down for years...You’ve never let go your childish and petty hatred for her...And for what reason?”
Heather’s resolve faded when she realized what you had.
“Jaemin…” You started.
“Y/n, did you not realize that each person on this trip has fucked with you one way or another?” He asked.
Well, the girls were bitches, yes, but…
“Naeun was the one who spread that rumor about you getting your breast implants...Tzuyu was the one who nearly ran you over in the student parking lot...Renjun body shamed you in the boys’ locker room...And Yangyang told us all that he wanted to take your virginity this weekend…”
“Jaemin!” Heather exclaimed.
“You should’ve been careful with who you added in your group chat full of morons, Heather....Ah, and Heather, dear...you’re the ringleader in all of this...You goaded Naeun and Tzuyu to do these things to y/n. You’ve set out to put y/n down for a long time now. You even went along with Renjun and Yangyang’s comments about y/n’s body...Fuck you, by the way, she’s perfect in every way...And I should’ve made them all go through slower...more painful deaths for all of the things you said about her...”
You couldn’t believe what you were hearing. You had no idea that even boys were targeting you...First off, you literally just breathed. The girls were childish and petty but…
“Jaemin,” you said.
“Yes, sweetheart?” Jaemin asked with a kinder smile to you.
“What they all did to me was wrong...But you didn’t have to…”
Jaemin’s eyes widened. “Kill them? Well, it wasn’t up to you...All of these people are worthless scum that won’t amount to much, honestly….So was it really a waste?”
Heather surprised you by pulling a handgun out of her pocket. She shot Jaemin in the chest. “y/n, let’s go!” She pulled you out of the bed and you both ran for your lives.
“Agh!” Jaemin groaned as he fell to the ground.
You both ran down the stairs. Heather unlocked the front door, knowing the house was no longer safe.
You both ran down the steps of the entrance. You had to pull Heather with you because she ran too slow for you. Then, you heard a gunshot.” Heather fell down. She’d been shot in the foot. “Fuck!” She yelled.
You turned to see Jaemin at the entrance with a hunting rifle. “Bulletproof vest, baby!”
You yelled as you tried to help Heather up.
Jaemin asked, genuinely confused. “Y/n, why are you running? This has nothing to do with you.”
You gaped. “Are you kidding me? Apparently, this has everything to do with me…Jaemin put the gun down! Please stop!”
Jaemin shook his head. “Out of the question, sweetheart. You’d be smart to leave Heather to me.”
Heather began to cry. “No…”
You wrapped Heather’s arm around you and both walked off. Heather winced with pain but she could manage as you kept running. Jaemin was getting closer and closer. He waited, then.
You and Heather were confused. Why did he stop running?
You and Heather both walked over a bear traps you both hadn’t seen.
You yelped in pain and Heather cried out, “Son of a bitch!”
It hurt for both of you to move an inch. You both cried.
Jaemin made his way over, using a flashlight. He sighed. “Y/n, you should’ve stopped running. Now you’ve your beautiful ankle...Well, it’s no big deal...I can disinfect it and patch it up nicely for you...After I’m done with Heather.”
“Jaemin, no, please stop. You don’t have to do this. I don’t want you to do this. That’s enough!” You pleaded.
At the sound of your last two words, Jaemin froze. The words brought him back to when he was a kid and he would pummel other children for bullying his younger siblings. His parents would beg him to stop. It was too bad that their words didn’t stick. And your words were no different.
Jaemin sighed. “I’m sorry, y/n…” He whacked the back of his gun over your head so you blacked out.
___
Heather had also been knocked out. She awoke to being tied up and sitting in the hot tub beside the Olympic sized swimming pool in the backyard. She noted that bricks were tied around her ankles. As she tried to pull herself up, it was impossible for her to get out.
Jaemin smiled wickedly as he wielded the thermostat. “You’ve always prided yourself on being the hottest girl at our college...Why don’t we put that to the test?”
“Jaemin, please stop! I am so sorry!” She cried. “Please don’t do this! I messed up! I...I’ve always been jealous of y/n! Because she was the one who had everything. The perfect family. The perfect grades. The perfect body. Everything about her is so damn effortless that I hated it.” She hoped that pouring her soul out to him might make him change his mind.
“Oh, boohoo…” Jaemin said as he increased the heat.
Heather grew uncomfortable. “Jaemin...Stop...Please...It’s too hot…”
Jaemin sighed. “Goodbye Heather…”
___
You slowly woke up seated on the passenger side of Jaemin’s Jeep. Your eyes quickly opened when you realized that. You jerked awake and found Jaemin in the driver’s seat, calm and composed. “I think we’re alone now...”
You backed up against your window. “Jaemin! Where is Heather?”
“Oh, she’s tied up at the moment...In the hot tub...She is indeed the hottest girl from our college now…” Jaemin said, a chuckle escaping his lips at his pun.
You were about to be sick. You pulled the window and vomited. You tried moving by the gash from the bear trap made you wince and groan in pain.
“Oh, y/n...I didn’t mean for you to get hurt...You couldn’t help it, though. Wanting to help that brat till the end...Because you see the good in people...You are simply too pure.”
“Jaemin...Where are we going?”
“To the next town...Where we will report a murderer that broke into Heather’s summer home…”
You looked at him in disbelief. Surely, he wouldn't turn himself in.
“The murderer is at large and we narrowly escaped, y/n...I got you out of the bear trap and we were able to get away in my car…”
You shook your head. “Jaemin, no...They’ll never believe you...”
Jaemin shocked you by breaking down the same way he had the day before you left for the trip. “Officers, please h-help us. Our friends are gone!”
You looked at him in disbelief. Did he fake crying before?
Well, you did think he was a tremendous actor. You just didn’t know how right you were.
“Jaemin, this is wrong…” You started.
He sighed. “Y/n...you worry too much...Now your life will be brighter...It’ll be perfect now. Perfect for the perfect girl…”
You contemplated how the hell you could get away from Jaemin. Your options were limited as he’d taken your phone. You couldn’t exactly run that far but you could find a way to slow him down. You noticed Heather’s car off the side of the road. It’d rammed into a tree. Jaemin must have tampered with Heather’s car, you realized. He did admit to having a hand in their disappearance, after all.
You thought fast and with all of your strength you moved over to Jaemin’s side and turned the wheel so the car collided into the trees.
The impact was intense but you’d dodged most of the impact. Jaemin laid next to you, unconscious and bleeding.
You limped out of the car and checked Heather’s car. As you feared, Renjun and Tzuyu died from the impact. It was a gruesome sight. They dealt with blunt trauma. Their heads were draining blood. You nearly puked again.
Before you broke down in tears, you thought fast and remembered Renjun and Tzuyu smoked. You rummaged through the glove compartment for a weapon or a phone...You came up short with Renjun’s lighter. Tzuyu’s phone had some battery left. The reception was low so you had to find a way to get to the next town to get reception.
So now what the hell were you going to do, you weren’t going to light a car up on fire...And burn the evidence that was once Tzuyu and Renjun.
You noticed the gas leak that came from under the car. You got under the hood of Heather’s car and found the gasoline tank leaking. You grabbed an empty Starbucks cup from the front seat and let the gasoline slip in.
___
You ran, not getting very far when Jaemin called out to you. He was able to walk normally and he was quickly catching up to you.
“Y/n! Sweetheart! Where are you going? Without me...” Jaemin called out.
You turned quickly and found he walked over to you with an ax.
“Fuck off, Jaemin!” You said, realizing he was just as capable of killing you.
“Sweetheart, let’s just talk about this...I did this all for you...Because I love you...I want to make you happy. I want to marry you. Have twelve children...Ah, yes, you said twelve may be excessive...How does eleven kids sound?”
You rolled your eyes. He was fucking insane. You decided to provoke him. “What makes you think I would marry a deranged killer?”
Jaemin’s face was unreadable then. You hid the cup of gasoline away in your sweater. Pretending you've injured your arm so Jaemin wouldn’t be the wiser.
“Y/n, please…”
You entertained him by turning around.
“What, Jaemin? How could you possibly convince me that anything you did was okay?”
“If you let me try…” Jaemin started. He got closer to you.
You waited for him to get closer and quickly doused him with the gasoline.
Jaemin coughed as some of the gasoline got in his mouth. “y/n, what are you-”
“Goodbye, Jaemin.” You ignited Renjun’s lighter and tossed it at him.
Jaemin clothes caught on fire. He yelled in agony as you watched him struggle. He threw the axe at you but he missed. You cried as you went back to Jaemin’s car and started up the ignition. Thank goodness, it still worked.
Jaemin immediately removed his clothes to remove himself from most of the flames and patted himself down. He immediately charged at you as you backed the car up from the tree.
You didn’t think twice as you ran him over. Checking the rearview mirror and seeing the job hadn’t been completed, you reversed the car and ran him over again.
You waited ten minutes to see that Jaemin was dead. You got out of the car and kicked his body to check for any movement. You got his heavy, lifeless body into the car with you. You checked his pulse again. He was dead. You checked multiple times because once again, you weren’t about to become a movie cliche.
You made it to the next town and reported Jaemin’s murders and how you killed him in self-defense. You explained your weekend of terror and you were at the station all week for questioning. Your family joined you and consoled you as you told them all you knew.
The police scoured the mansion. They found Yangyang’s body in the pool house, beaten to a bloody pulp. They found Naeun’s body in her bed, like she’d been in perpetual slumber. They found Heather’s body in the hot tub, wrinkled and burnt. They found Heather’s car where Tzuyu and Renjun’s bodies remained.
Jaemin told you the truth. He worked part-time at hardware store. He had been fired that day for snapping at one of the customer’s who was berating his wife. Before Jaemin left, he stole an ax. He really did get the ax, like he’d told you.
It turned out Jaemin tampered with the reception at Heather’s house and because her house was already remote...Jaemin was able to use that to his advantage. He used the last of the reception before he cut it off to send the texts about Yangyang from a burner phone, which was uncovered in his Jeep. Yangyang’s phone was unlocked and the police uncovered his messages that were supposedly from his dealer, who he scheduled to meet with the night he disappeared. It turned out Jaemin hacked into the dealer’s phone to get Yangyang right where he wanted him. Jaemin did indeed tamper with the wires of Heather’s car so Tzuyu and Renjun’s fates were sealed. The leftover lasagna Jaemin had prepared was analyzed and there were traces of crushed peanuts in the lasagna. Naeun had a severe peanut allergy. Naeun’s EpiPen was found with Jaemin’s other belongings. When you’d saved Naeun with your EpiPen, Jaemin took it upon himself to smother Naeun with a pillow in her sleep. Jaemin had planted bear traps around the front lawn, which was how he caught you and Heather. Heather died from heat exhaustion in the hot tub as she was tied up and restrained with bricks tied around her ankles. Jaemin had done all of this with gloved hands so no trace of his DNA could be found at the crime scenes. If it hadn’t been for the evidence he’d hidden in his car, then the case would’ve been more difficult to resolve.
Jaemin’s body was recovered at the crime scene. Thankfully, he was not a movie cliche where he up and left and awaited his next victim. He was dead to the world and most importantly, dead to you.

Heyy I love your blog sm!! I was wondering if it would be possible for you to do Dazai scenario where he and reader are reminiscing about the old port mafia days (reader left the pm a little after he did and joined the ada with him) thank you so much!!
WARNING: This piece contains mentions of attempted suicide- read at your own risk.
Tumblr media
The stars shined high above, reflecting in once dull eyes- eyes that had gained a new light in the last few years. A shiver wracked your body but you remained where you laid, soaked to the bone beside the river, staring up at the stars that continued to twinkle peacefully as if they hadn’t just witnessed you diving after your closest friend. No words had been spoken since you had fished the man out of the river, having simply pulled him to shore before laying beside him, chest heaving. You could have sworn you caught a pained look on his face, as you had made eye contact under the water, only for it to turn into his usual annoyed expression whenever someone got in the way of his suicide attempts. “
“Remember the day we met?” Dazai’s voice cut through the silence like a hot knife through butter. Had you not been desensitised years ago, you would have jumped. “Of course I do… You were sent to kill me on my fifteenth birthday.”
~
His breath tickled your neck as he brushed his nose over your soft skin, both your chests heaving and heads spinning. Pushing him off of you, you rolled over to find your place above him. “You’re good… but you need a little more practice…” you chuckled, taking the gun he had hidden in his coat, removing the clip and unloading the chamber, throwing the ammunition to one side and the gun to another. “But hey… I’m more than happy to teach you~” You didn’t miss the smirk that grew on his face before you had clashed again.
~
“You never got very far though. Days later, I was being assigned as your new subordinate. To this day, I have no idea how you managed to convince Mori to recruit me, considering he wanted me dead.”
Dazai only laughed and once again, a silence fell between the two of you, though it didn’t last very long this time. “What about the first time we sparred?” You recalled, earning another soft laugh from your companion. “I kicked your ass,” you continued, though the tone in your voice said otherwise. He had won more than the match that night.
~
The fight when the two of you met had nothing on this one. Every strike of his fists meant business, every kick and quick movement done with precision. Dazai knew what he was doing. So did you, but he had more practice and he was naturally stronger. “You’re slowing down,” he taunted you, hardly out of breath while you were struggling to keep up. Had he just been toying with you before? Did he know what was going to happen? Ducking as he hooked his fist in from the right, you were unfortunately met by his prepared knee, being sent back and onto your ass. Your nose throbbed and it had sent a shock of pain through your skull, behind your eyes and had you gasping for a breath.
Blood dribbled down from your nose, but you wiped it with the back of your hand, smearing it on your skin as you went to stand back up. He stopped you however, hand on your shoulder, forcing you back down. “Stay down. Had this been a real fight, you’d be dead now. So stay down.” You hated that smirk on his face, the way he clearly indicated that he knew he was better than you. He knelt in front of you, grasping your chin roughly and forcing you to look up at him. “Don’t worry, I’d be more than happy to teach you~” He mocked you, his smirk never leaving as he crashed his lips against yours, all teeth and tongue before he backed off by standing up once more, wiping your blood off his face.
~
“You got better. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone improve so quickly. You were determined to return the favour.” He was right. It wasn’t long at all until you were looking at your first promotion. Then your second, and soon, you were working directly under the executive. Those days, Dazai was a lot more focused on a new recruit, Akutagawa. The poor boy, he was treated absolutely ruthlessly. You couldn’t help but have lost a lot of respect for Dazai at the time. Pulling some poor, helpless child into the cruel world of the mafia. It was a dog eat dog world out there though, who knows what would have happened to the kid had he not been taken under Dazai’s wing.
“I’ve recently found out that Chuuya is still trying to find that bottle of wine we hid. You’d think he would have found it after all this time.” You turned your head to finally look at the man for the first time since pulling him from the water, but his eyes never left the sky. “You’re kidding me right?” You laughed. “Surely someone would have found it by now.”
~
Soft snickers and hisses were heard as the two of you tried to silence each other’s drunken giggles. “We’re going to get caught,” you spoke through your giggles, which increased when he pulled a face at you, offended by the mere mention of him getting caught. “Please, the chibi is off kissing someone’s ass right now,” Dazai scoffed, opening the heavy door that lead into one of the many offices of the massive building owned by the mafia. “Holy crap… Why the hell is Chuuya’s office bigger than mine? He’s not even an executive yet,” you grumbled, looking around the room, eyes landing on a wine fridge. “Found the stash.”
Rushing over to the fridge, you pulled it open and began looking through the bottles, reading the labels and cringing at the sight of some. “How about this one?” you suggested, holding up one of the bottles for Dazai to look at. Having been hovering over you, he took the bottle quickly and hazily read over it, shrugging his shoulders. “It’ll do. What’s that one on the bottom?” he asked, gesturing to the bottle at the very bottom of the fridge. Picking it up, you read over the label and scoffed. “Wow- like, one of the finest wines you can get your hands on. Apparently. I think this type sucks to be frank,” you explained, going to put it back, only for the man to snatch it out of your hands. “You’re probably right, buuuuutttt, if it’s so amazing, surely our dear chibi will be enraged to find it missing,” he grinned. You stared at him, brow raised as you shut the wine fridge, before looking past him, up to the air vent that was right above the oak desk. “Up there.”
~
“I mean, who doesn’t check the air vents? Everyone hides the best things in their air vent.” You let out a heavy sigh, staring back up at the stars before listening to him as he rustled around. After a couple of seconds, he was hovering over you and for a split second, you saw the old him, the weird teenager who made out with you at any given moment before teasing you or pushing you around. You never figured out what was going on between the two of you and as you reached up, gently stroking his cheek with your cold hand, you didn’t deem it important at that moment. Regardless of the answer, he was yours. “Let’s go home.”

I'm sorry, I might have been unclear. ^^;; I mean that when Bakugo is told for ten years he deserves to be arrogant and ambitious, it'd be hard for him to not be. But he picked All Might as his hero, whose compassion and saving people define him. In many ways I see a neglected kid lashing out from frustration before UA. He wasn't going to change until he was among equals in class, and adults who cared enough to tell/show him more than a simple 'you're the best bc you're strong'.
OH yes yes, sorry for the miscommunication! Yeah, we've definitely seen moments in his past where Bakugo's arrogance was stoked and I think those details are the cornerstone of how sympathetically each individual reads him. Does the reader focus on the actions themselves (bullying, encouraging suicide, recklessly fighting Izuku), or the environment that led to that behavior (doting teachers, his mother, peers who egged him on). It's that line between "Bakugo is just a kid. He needs the chance to grow" and "Bakugo is the perpetrator hurting other kids. His growth should not come at the continued expense of his victim." Which is where I think the structural issues of the story come in. Meaning, both takes are right — Bakugo does horrific things and Bakugo is also a teenager whose behavior is arguably stemming from his upbringing — but it's hard to balance both sides when he's in a story where he's attending school with Izuku, his relationship with Izuku is one of the most important, and he's set from the get-go to be a hero. By making Bakugo such a crucial part of the story in the form of a) being a hero and b) being Izuku's foil, reading #1 — he's a poor kid who just needs endless chances to improve — wins out. In a better story setup, Bakugo would not be training alongside his victim. He would have been expelled from U.A. for all the stunts he pulled. His future as a hero would have been seriously called into question until he learned that bare bones respect. As it stands, the structure of the story ensures that Bakugo (to my knowledge) never faced any actual consequences for his actions, pushing a lot of messages that fans are uncomfortable with: past behavior doesn't matter, any improvement is equal to reaching a standard expected of everyone else, the best thing is to forgive your abuser, talent is prioritized over empathy, etc. Since the apology dropped, I've seen a couple of fans arguing that whether to forgive Bakugo or not is Izuku's decision. It doesn't matter what the fans think because they aren't the ones who suffered. But Izuku isn't a real person. Izuku is a character, controlled by an author who gets to decide how he reacts, knowing that lots of fans want Bakugo's behavior to be acknowledged as serious as it was. I'm currently working under the assumption that Izuku will accept Bakugo's apology because the story has never been interested in actually making Bakugo face consequences for his actions. He was established as a hero from the start, despite his unheroic behavior, which created a contradiction that has hurt the story as a whole.
For me, what it comes down to is the reaction as opposed to the explanation. If I had a kid acting like Bakugo who I know was pushed to that behavior by others and also kid acting like Bakugo for seemingly no reason... they both need to learn the same lesson. Because, as established, that over-encouragement isn't an excuse, just a possible explanation (and I say "possible" because plenty of our other heroes were likewise praised for their talents and didn't turn out like that). What it comes down to is that Bakugo is not the victim here. Was Bakugo neglected? Arguably in some respects, but we know for a fact — seeing from the very start of the series — how much damage Bakugo has done in turn. And yet the story is focused on his pain, his struggle, the tragedy of what supposedly drove a teenager to encourage someone to jump off a roof, rather than the tragedy of a minority kid bullied to the point of someone encouraging suicide. That's the flaw imo. Both kids deserve to work through their problems and have their stories told, but doing that together — putting both at the heart of the manga, as equals in terms of their status as heroes — really doesn't work for me. It's hard to get invested in the supposed tragedy of a kid who was endlessly praised and decided to turn that into despising everyone "lesser" than him when the "lesser" person is right there, having his victimhood largely ignored in favor of unpacking how hard this is for his bully. That's the focus we keep coming back to. It's "poor Bakugo, realizing that Izuku isn't a useless nobody" rather than, "poor Izuku, forced to work alongside the guy who thinks he's a useless nobody." To be totally honest here, I never cared about Bakugo's supposedly sad backstory because it reads as so inconsequential compared to others in the class and compared to what he did to Izuku. Todoroki had his face burned by his father. Uraraka is becoming a hero to try and help her family financially. Izuku is right there... and Bakugo's great struggle, the struggle the story spends so much time on, is "Wow, other people aren't trash I can just walk over and hurt for the fun of it? And I'm learning this at a snail's pace while heading towards the prestigious career of being a hero? And the reason I'm like this is because people praised me too much? What fantastic development on my part!"
I get snarky, but I do honestly believe that Bakugo's story is one worth telling, just not in this context. The story of a kid so talented, and beloved that he developed an ego the size of his school and needs to unlearn that arrogance is a legit story to tell. Trying to tell that story at the expense of his victim, alongside kids his age who went through the same thing and turned out kind, went through far worse and turned out kind, all while having him train to be a hero without ever seriously questioning whether he should be allowed in such a profession is... a mess. It is good for Bakugo to be among equals and learn some humility, but I don't think the first half of the story did nearly enough of that and, even if it had, that struggle is hard for me to take seriously when the others have so much else going on.
Also, did Bakugo latch onto All Might because of his compassion? That always seemed incidental to me. Rather, Bakugo idolized him because he's the best: the most popular, the strongest, the one who always wins. I'd need to re-read flashbacks from the manga to be sure, but I do recall one of the scenes from the anime:
Tumblr media
"You see that? I bet he'll dodge and then punch! Think they've won and then ha! Look, he totally stopped him! That's why he's the greatest. No matter how much trouble he's in, he's always the winner!"
Bakugo likes All Might because he's "the winner," not because he's presumably saving people during this news coverage. Izuku is the one who latches onto All Might because of his smile and ability to help. That's their crucial difference between them. Izuku fights for others. Bakugo fights for himself.
Tumblr media
Is he slowly unlearning that? Yeah, sort of, but again, it comes down to who continually suffers to teach that lesson, how slow Bakugo learns it, how it compares to the struggles of his peers, and how this is situated in a story revolving around allowing him to be a hero in the first place. Cool character idea, bad context and execution.

A/N: Two chapters in one month?? Your super nice and amazing comments always want to make me write so much more! I’m glad I had some extra time this week to get things out. PLEASE READ NOTE BELOW:
With the recent chapters of the manga in mind, I want to make note that this story is non-canon. I want to keep this story cohesive and not spoil anything that is not in the anime. However, there may be discrepancies or differences because I started writing during the overhaul arc. I understand a lot of people don't read the manga and some things have happened that could impact what I plan to do with this story. So, please keep in mind that this is not canon, but is set in the second year. My main goals are clarity within this story and not spoiling anything. Thank you!
(series masterlist)
The next few weeks passed in a blur because your schedule was now much more packed with various activities. You had cooking on Monday, training with Aizawa-sensei and Shinsou every Tuesday and Friday, and training with Bakugou every Wednesday and Sunday.
On top of that, physical training had increased throughout the class because of the approaching sports festival and many people were asking to train with you. So far, you had trained with the girls a couple of times as well as in other small study groups when the spaces were rented out. Everyone was rather nice about inviting when they could, although you didn’t always say yes.
As of now, it was the Wednesday before the Sports Festival. Class ended with a big endurance workout and then some stretches. Each student was breathing heavily and slowly making their way back to the lockers to change. Knowing you would be training with Bakugou in the next hour, you didn’t want to shower, but also didn’t want to switch back into your school uniform because it would become dirty.
However, you immediately changed your mind as you saw how sweaty you were in the mirror. Strands of hair were stuck to your face from sweat and your face was clearly flushed.
“Did I look this bad all of class?” You frantically asked Momo and Jirou who were ruffling through their own lockers.
Jirou let out a few snickers at your reaction while Momo shook her head and smiled sweetly.
“You don’t look bad at all,” Momo explained while she applied deodorant.
“You’re too nice,” You replied, waving hero off sheepishly before looking to Jirou, “Tell me the truth, Jirou-san.”
“You don’t look too bad,” She responded, “All of us look like a mess. I don’t think anyone would really notice if that’s what you’re worried about.”
You hummed a response, not quite satisfied with her response, but also not about to beg her to call you either gorgeous or hideous. You turned back to your locker, deciding last minute to take a shower. You weren’t going to wash your hair, but you would borrow the hairbrush you knew Ashido has in order to fix your hair.
Once finally clean, with hair neatly brushed and tied back from your face, you leisurely walked back with Ashido and Hagakure to grab your school bags.
“So, now that I am officially in a relationship,” Ashido began, “I figured it was time I played matchmaker for you two hopeless romantics,” The kindred girl skipped ahead of you and Hagakure with a wide smile.
You chuckled low in your throat. “I don’t think that really describes us well,” You retorted, trailing behind slightly.
Ashido simply waved you off and moved around to throw her arm around Hagakure. “What about you, Toru-chan? Do you want me, who is in a steady relationship, to help you and Ojiro?”
“Um,” The invisible girl tentatively started. She was clearly unsure how Ashido would be able to help. “I’m okay with my relationship with Ojiro right now…”
“Really?” Ashido inquired. “You’re okay with just being his friend?” Your small group rounded the corner, approaching the classroom.
“Well,” You were sure Hagakure would be blushing if she wasn’t invisible. “I don’t want to push him into anything because he is shy and likes to go slow. I think it is best if it happens naturally.”
Ashido visibly harrumphed before looking back at you. “Y/L/N-chan!” She explained, moving from Hagakure to you. “Let me be your wing-woman!”
You slid open the classroom door, head turned to reply to Ashido. “I’m pretty sure Bakugou would blow you up before you even had a chance to be my wing woman.”
“Meanie,” The pink-haired girl pouted before pushing past you to go to her desk and grab her bag.
“I just don’t know if Bakugou would want anyone to meddle in the too-small relationship we have now,” You explained, walking over to your own desk. Everyone else’s desks were empty, meaning you were the last three people left.
“Yeah, but you are barely spending any time with him. Not only do I know Bakugou well, but I can help you because I’m dating Kirishima,” Mina countered. “I could talk you up, or lowkey make us go on a double date. It would work perfectly.”
You all walked out of the classroom, closing the door after Ashido and Hagakure both exited, and walking toward the lockers at the entrance to change shoes.
“I feel like I spend plenty of time with him,” You reasoned, adjusting your backpack up higher. You were trying to explain yourself without being too descriptive. You saw him every day at school, ate lunch with him, spent time with him three days out of the week, and saw him in the halls occasionally.
“You mean lunches with all of us and cooking dinner once a week with him and Sero?” Ashido countered. “That’s maybe more time than half the class, but it isn’t very much for a romantic relationship.”
You rolled your eyes and laughed loudly. Personally, you weren’t sure if Bakugou would really spend much time with his partner. He wasn’t a very outgoing person to begin with and you imagined that he would want someone who respected his privacy.
After a short debate, you decided it was best to tell your friends about the additional time you had spent with Bakugou. The time you spent with him was more heavily focused on training than anything else, meaning this information wouldn’t change too much about what your relationship with him meant.  “You can’t say anything, okay?” You began your confession. You felt safe telling them but wanted to make sure it stayed in your small circle of friends.
Both girls turned towards you. Ashido’s eyes were wide with curiosity.
“Bakugou and I have been training together every Wednesday and Sunday,” You simply said.
“Huh?” Hagakure spoke up, “Like, you guys happen to be at the gym at the same time?”
“No,” You clarified, “Like, we meet up every Wednesday and Sunday for hours to train together.”
“What?” The pink-haired girl screeched. She turned and moved to be in front of you in order to stop you in your tracks. “Really?”
“Why would I lie?” You replied, shrugging easily.
“I don’t know,” She shot back with a cheeky smile. She looked down and nervously bit on her lip. “I just can’t believe it.” Before you could say anything else, she looked up at you. “I don’t think you even need my help, Y/L/N-chan!”
“Thanks,” You laughed out.
The three of you began walking again before separating to go to each of your respective lockers. You grabbed a couple of textbooks, put a few things from your bag away and into the locker, as well as switched your shoes. You met back up with Hagakure and Ashido at the door and exited together.
The silence was quickly ended by Ashido. “I can’t believe you are training with him.”
“Is it really that unheard of?” You inquired.
“I mean, he doesn’t really train with anyone. The fact that he is training with you is a good sign,” Ashido explained. “But that is also giving you an insane opportunity to spend time with him that almost no one else gets.”
“Wow,” Hagakure finally added. She turned to face you. “You really are lucky huh?”
You felt your cheeks flush. “Oh, well, um,” You stuttered, “I don’t think I’m that lucky. It’s probably just a coincidence.”
Ashido scoffed, “Yeah, we’ll see.”
You simply rolled your eyes at the girls and followed Ashido as she went on to talk about Kirishima while leading you all back to the dorms.
As subtly as possible, you pulled out your phone to check your notifications. Bakugou would often text you after class or in the morning to let you know where he wanted to meet that day. Frequently, it would be in the cityscape, because it was best for his quirk.
In reflection, you were often mostly working for his benefit. Although you definitely improved through practice, small details like the location of the training, or discussion on what to improve often revolved around the blond boy.
You bit your lip, debating if it was bad.
On one hand, you were happy to spend time with him, help him, and still improve yourself.
On the other, is it a bad sign that he is unwilling to help improve your skills?
Well, it’s not like he is unwilling. I’ve never asked, you reasoned. And maybe he doesn’t know how to help me like I know how to help him because I grew up in a hero family.
You sighed at the predicament just as your phone vibrated with Bakugou’s decision on where to meet.
Let’s meet right outside the dorm room. No hero costume necessary.
That’s new. Sure, the first time you met outside the dorms so he could show you where the cityscape was, but he hadn’t done that since.
You shoved your phone back into your pocket as Ashido opened the door to the dorm house. You each quickly went your separate ways. Hagakure rushed to the bathroom, Ashido went to grab a snack, and you went upstairs to change and get ready.
You did your best to tidy up quickly. You didn’t need your hero costume, but you still might be doing some form of combat or exercise so you needed to dress in workout clothes. You dressed in comfortable, dark leggings and a sports bra to match. On top, you wore a sweat-resistant shirt and styled your hair to keep it out of your face.
You bit your lip as you looked in the mirror and thought over what you could do to make your appearance any better. This probably isn’t even something Bakugou thinks about, you thought as your forced yourself to look away and grab your phone.
You had just enough time to pack a small bag with your belongings and go downstairs to fill up your water bottle. When done, you popped your head outside the front door to see if Bakugou was waiting. With five minutes to spare, you were here before the short-tempered boy. And so, you sat down at the large couches by the door and waited for Bakugou to come down while scrolling through your phone.
“I thought I told you to wait outside,” You heard a gruff voice say. You looked up from your phone to see Bakugou walking towards the kitchen to fill his own water.
“I didn’t know how long you would take,” You reasoned and smiled at the blond before getting up to meet him in the kitchen. In reality, you were waiting no more than two minutes before he came down.
“You know I would never be late,” He retorted while screwing the cap onto his bottle.
You shrugged in response, not bothering to reply verbally. The conversation died down as you followed behind Bakugou and out of the house. “So, where are we going?” You asked as you closed the door behind the both of you.
“The library,” Bakugou explained. “I want to do some theorizing stuff, maybe some combat after.”
You hummed and followed behind him on the short trek to the library. “Is there anything specific on your mind?” You inquired, considering this isn’t something Bakugou had wanted to do before.
“The sports festival is this weekend and I want to win. I was thinking we could watch old highlights and strategize what the possible challenges could be and how to approach them,” Bakugou described.
“And we can’t just do this in the dorms?” You shot back.
“Shuddup,” He responded. “It’s always easier to study in a computer lab rather than our rooms.”
“I guess,” You simply replied, not really caring about where you were when you would be analyzing old clips from sports festivals in the past.
“I guess,” Bakugou mimicked back, a habit he formed quickly when you began to talk more. Anytime your accent sounded a little off, just slightly weird, the blond would repeat it, emphasizing the mistake, and snickering at it.
“Oh shut up, you idiot,” You snapped back, not too harshly slapping his name on his arm.
“What?” He loudly reasoned while still laughing. “I’m trying to help you speak better Japanese.”
“No, you aren’t,” You rolled your eyes at him shrugging, “You are just laughing at me.”
Bakugou feigned surprise, gasping and putting his hand onto his chest. “How dare you? I am in the top 10 of our grade academically, and your accent has only gotten better since I started doing this.”
“Yeah, well you suck ass at English,” You mumbled in response.
“I don’t need to have a perfect accent if I am speaking English in Japan,” He retorted before pulling open the door to the school. It led to the library and computer lab that was a few stories up.
“When you speak English here, you will most likely be doing hero work with tourists that unfortunately got caught in something,” You reasoned, “They won’t be able to understand you well if at all when you don’t study tonal English.”
Realistically, yes, they would be able to understand Bakugou. However, you were currently butt-hurt and unwilling to compliment him.
“Then I will leave the talking to you.” Bakugou pressed the elevator door button and waited until it dinged and the doors opened to walk in.
“And you expect me to just be there in the field with you?” You questioned, following behind him.
“What?” Are you going back to America?” He asked back. His voice had a different tone to it. He was no longer teasing you and instead of asking a genuine question.
You pushed away the want to analyze this difference in inflection, knowing it would make you look like an idiot for pausing to reply for so long. “Not anytime soon,” You finally replied, “But we can’t predict the future, and I have no clue where I will go after graduation.”
“Well, you should stay here,” Bakugou simply said.
You couldn’t help but shoot him a shocked and curious look. “Does the Bakugou Katsuki really want me to stay in Ja—”
“It’s not like that, you idiot!” He interrupted you. “Japan is just a lot better for heroism than America so you will learn more and be better if you stay here.”
He had a pout on his face that begged you to not tease him.
So, you didn’t.
However, you weren’t sure what to say so you simply followed behind Bakugou as he entered the library and beelined it to a table.
“And my name isn’t Ka-TSU-ki,” He finally spoke while placing his belongings onto the table.
You shot him a confused look, “What do you mean?” You placed your own things down to his right.
“Put more accent on ‘Ka’,” He explained easily. “You should rush through it to sound more like KA-tski.”
Bakugou shot you a look as if he was waiting for you to say his name. “What?” You curiously asked.
“Practice,” He motioned for you to speak.
“Uhhh, Ka-tski, KA-tski, Katsuki,” You awkwardly attempted. You felt the heat spread from the bottom of your neck to your cheeks and finally to the tops of your ears.
You weren’t a fool. You knew what using a first name meant in Japanese culture and also knew that no one except Midoriya referred to him by any other name besides Bakugou. For him to so casually have you repeat his first name over and over made your stomach flip.
“Good,” He spoke, voice deep and almost raspy. It made butterflies erupt in your stomach. His tone was… different and it made your head spin crazily. The blond sat down and pulled out his laptop.
“I didn’t bring my computer,” You awkwardly explained.
“That’s fine,” Bakugou immediately replied. “I can rent one out from the library if need be, but we can share earbuds and watch videos on my laptop.”
You gulped down the quickly forming lump in your throat and simply kept watching the blond unpack his bag.
From being able to say his first name without him yelling at you to his tone and his willingness to share, Bakugou was acting unusually. And you were clearly flustered by it. You were sure that if Ashido was here, she would practically be stabbing you with her elbow while she winked at you repeatedly.
Luckily, however, it was just the oblivious and preoccupied Bakugou who was currently opening a tab on his laptop and pulling up videos. You were free to push your chair back, gulp down too much water, and attempt to manage your breathing pattern without him noticing.
Or at least that’s what you hoped.
“Here.”
You looked up from the desk and saw Bakugou holding out an earbud to you. Before grabbing it, your eyes trailed down the wire that inevitably connected it to Bakugou’s own ear. Bakugou had moved the laptop to be evenly between you two on the desk, he was also leaning in slightly to give your more room with the earbud wire. Finally, he also had a notebook and pen to his left so he could write down notes.
You moved closer to the blond and put in the earbud. You tried your best not to move too close, but Bakugou easily moved closer once you stopped adjusting and his own shoulder was now brushing against yours.
Oh, great, you thought. You felt a tinge of nerves from Bakugou push into you. Because your shoulders were only brushing, sometimes not touching at all, you could really only see his surface-level emotions. More than anything, he was focused and determined.
Bakugou opened a document that already had a plethora of notes. “These are the past 11 years of sports festivals and what challenges were done each time,” He explained as you scanned your eyes over the expansive document. It was organized by year, then by class year, and finally, by challenge done.
You hummed to simply let Bakugou know you heard him as you searched for patterns.
“The most common one is a race,” Bakugou began, “But it is different every time.” He moved his cursor to open a video. “This is a compilation of the 17 races or marathons that were done.”
Without waiting, Bakugou began playing the video. They were short clips, the teacher hosting the sports festival explaining what each step of the race was as well as a few highlights. You took mental notes while Bakugou scribbled away in his notebook. You immediately noticed him angrily grumbling when last year’s highlights came up, it showed Midoriya expertly soaring into first place.
“These definitely favor flight abilities,” You mumbled as the video came to a close. The notation wasn’t so good for your quirk, but you knew Bakugou would have little trouble.
“Yeah,” Bakugou simply replied, well aware of the disadvantage you would have if it was a marathon-based challenge.
“How are you feeling about your maneuverability?” You asked Bakugou, knowing there was little you could do. Well, except hope that a marathon challenge wasn’t in this year’s sports festival.
“I’m fine,” Bakugou responded, before changing the subject, “Races are least common for second years though, so I’m not sure if we should expect it.” Bakugou leaned back in his chair, “I know that U.A. does some stuff to help prevent repetitiveness between the classes within a year, but also between the same class each year.”
“Damn,” You commented, “You really know your stuff.”
“Yeah, well it makes sense to analyze past stuff,” Bakugou explained, “I can train all I want, but analyzing last year definitely helped me too.”
“I wonder if anyone else is doing this,” You thought out loud.
Bakugou simply shrugged and turned back to his computer. “Usually, every second round is a group-based challenge, but they vary a lot.” You nodded in understanding, “The most common one in the past 11 years is a mini-disaster situation. They love doing this for second-years, but it costs a lot so it has only happened 9 times between all three grade levels.” Bakugou once again pulled up a video and began playing clips from the 9 previous disaster situations.
The first time it was ever done, the teachers played it off as a real situation. It made for great television and a realistic view of how heroes work in the field, but the audience was unaware of the decision and it terrified them. There were actors in place as villains and civilians, but U.A. ended up apologizing and doing it the next year with multiple variations and adjustments to be more family-friendly.
“They didn’t do this last year,” Bakugou elaborated, “So I think they will this year.” He moved back to a new document. It had each year’s disaster detailed on it. It listed hat was the problem, the main highlights, as well as who won and the quirks the team had.
“The grading of this challenge is based on the team’s ability to work well together, how they work against the villain, and how they help rescue the designated civilians.” Bakugou paused for a beat, “I know you haven’t done the hero provisional license, but it is similar to the task during that test, just on a smaller scale.”
You nodded in understanding while reading over the group’s quirks. “Do you know if the students got to pick their teams?” You asked.
“I couldn’t find anything on it, but for our team-based challenge last year, we were allowed to pick groups,” Bakugou replied.
“Who would you pick then?” You asked him, partially out of curiosity for his strategy and partially hoping he would say your name.
Bakugou hummed in thoughts, “Most teams in the past were five people, and I don’t know how great I would be with helping civilians.” Bakugou paused in thought, “I think you, Kirishima, and Ashido would be great with that.”
And there go the butterflies once again erupting in your stomach.
“You would also allow us to communicate across the field, Kirishima would be great for defense if the villains ever attacked the civilians, and Ashido has a great offensive attack and personality that would keep people calm.” He paused for a few moments, “I also think Sero would be great with saving civilians and then moving to help in the offensive.”
“Isn’t that the same team you had last year?” You questioned. You wanted to tease him for being so willing to compliment people, but you knew he would react badly. You made a mental note to tell Ashido later.
“Well, I added you!” Bakugou defended, voice rising in volume slightly.
The librarian shushed him and you snickered at his angry face. “Calm down,” You reassured, placing your hand onto his own.
It was a habit to touch people and help them, you weren’t even thinking about how it would change his feelings. However, you immediately felt the heat from his hand warm your cool skin without processing exactly what you were doing. Although your mind wanted you to snatch your hand back once you felt his warmth, you knew it would only make the situation weirder. Instead, you pushed away his anger and calmed him just slightly, trying not to push your own nerves onto him.
Bakugou looked at you with wide eyes before his face relaxed. Similar to before, you felt his nerves rush into your body. It honestly made you more nervous. Knowing that your focus on nerves would only worsen both of yours, you pulled your hand back, trying your best to seem casual. Thoughts rushed through your head as you tried to figure out why he became so nervous when you touched his hand with your own.
You weren’t an idiot.
You knew what type of nerves he had.
It wasn’t sickness-related and it definitely wasn’t an anxiety-induced nerve. It was the same type of nerves you felt when your stomach would flip at the rare sight of Bakugou smiling. It was the same flutter of your heart when you saw Bakugou dressed in his hero costume.
You could even see the small blush forming on the tips of his ears and cheeks, only helping to confirm your assumptions.
If you didn’t stop yourself, you would have already stumbled out an apology before grabbing your belongings and rushing out of the library. Except, if you did do that, it would be a dead giveaway that you understood his nerves.
Something you reminded yourself over and over was that if anything was going to happen with the blond, you would need to be patient. Over the past few weeks, as you two have grown closer, it was patience and understanding that made him more comfortable around you.
“Sorry,” You apologized after a moment, moving to grab your water and take a few sips.
Bakugou pulled back from you, “It’s okay.”
He knows.
He knows I know.
He knows that I know that he knows.
You closed your eyes tightly to push your anxious thoughts away.
How could he know? He’s just as nervous as I am if not more!
“Sometimes I forget my quirk will just go off, I didn’t mean to change your feelings,” You explained. Although helpful, sometimes it was best for people to feel out their emotions and learn to change them on their own.
“It’s okay,” Bakugou repeated, “It’s for the best anyways. I’d hate to be kicked out of the library…again.”
“Again?” You questioned, quirking your eyebrow at the blond.
Bakugou nodded, laughing at himself slightly. “Yeah, it was when I was tutoring Kaminari last year. That idiot can be so stupid sometimes, I couldn’t hold back my screams when he told me the 4 squared was 8.”
You chuckled at Bakugou’s story, covering your mouth slightly to muffle your laughs. “Oh my god,” You exclaimed in surprise.
“I know,” Bakugou confirmed. “I don’t think he would have passed last year if I wasn’t there to tutor him,” Bakugou smirked while watching you giggle at his joke. Once your laughter died down with a deep breath, Bakugou adjusted himself in his chair to face his laptop once again. “Anyways,” He began, “I think the team I mentioned earlier would be great. We would have well-balanced defense and offense.”
You nodded, “I’ll make sure to keep that in mind if we all make it to the second round.”
“Oh, you better,” Bakugou pointed his finger at you. “I don’t care what the first round is, your better be ready to be the second person at the finish line.”
“Second?” You asked, already knowing where this would go.
“Yeah, obviously I am first,” Bakugou said seriously.
You held back your laugh but smiled all the same. “I’m sure you will be first, Bakugou-san. Now, let’s get back to review so we can make that possible.”
Bakugou nodded and began another small speech about the other team challenges. You listened diligently, watched the videos intently, and provided notes and feedback when you had some to say.
You both started a consistent pattern, reviewing each section before talking about how it could be positive or negative for each person. You theorized different abilities and moves you each had that could assist in a challenge. For example, a less common first challenge was a multi-round skills test.
It was much more used in the past but featured small rounds within the challenge that would add up to give people overall grades. Previous rounds featured breathing tests or aim with weaponry of choice.
“And that’s it!” Bakugou sighed, pushing himself back to rest against his chair. At this point, you and Bakugou had been in the library for over three hours with only one break to get up, stretch, and use the restroom.
You quietly whooped and took out the earbud so you could also lean back into your chair. “My back hurts, but this was definitely worth it.”
Bakugou chuckled at your comment, twisting in his chair to crack his back. “Happy to help.”
“If you are so happy to help, are you going to share this with anyone else?” You asked, looking at him from the corner of your eye.
“No,” Bakugou began, “Probably not.” He grabbed his water. “But you grew up in a hero family so you could help strategize more than the other class members.”
“I guess, but you don’t know that.” You turned to face him as he sipped on his drink. “Not only are you making assumptions about my past, but you are making assumptions about the other students as well.”
Bakugou dropped his head and rolled it to the side to look into your eyes with his own, vibrant scarlet orbs. He had a slight smirk on his lips that made you not quite gasp, but a breath in quickly and suddenly. However, it only got worse when his tongue appeared, slowly swiping across his upper lip. You wondered if the action was intentional, or if he could really look this good unintentionally.
“How many times is it now that you’ve come after me for assuming things about you?” He asked, his eyes squinting slightly at you.
You looked away, knowing you couldn’t respond if you continued to watch him. You were tempted to tell him not to look at you that way but also knew that would make him even more conceited and only edge him on. “Often enough for it to bug me and for you to remember. I think that’s a sign you should have learned by now,” You shot back.
“Oof,” Bakugou replied, moving in his seat to be sitting up straighter, he turned to face you more head-on and lay his right arm across the chair. “Why don’t you just clarify your past for me then?”
You eyed Bakugou closely. “Do you not remember what happened the first time you asked that?”
“You mean when you stormed out like you had a temper worse than mine? Of course, I do,” Bakugou shot back. He paused for a moment and you watched him think over his next words carefully, “Aren’t I your closest friend here?” You could tell it was to more so tease you, but you also wondered, due to his pause, if he was hoping you would say yes.
You scoffed at his comment, “Shouldn’t that be Ashido or Hagakure?” There was a fine line between complimenting Bakugou, revealing your feelings, and just making him more conceited. You feared that if you played into his idea about you two being close, it would give him an upper hand in your relationship. You were not willing to let Bakugou tease you and make you blush like a fool.
Well, it's not like you had too much of a choice in the matter though.
“Oh, please!” Bakugou retorted, “You spend so much more time with me than you do with them.”
“I also spend a lot of time with Shinsou,” You replied.
It was almost like a tug of war. Bakugou wanted you to admit that you spent so much time with him that he was practically your default best friend while you were trying to prove that you weren’t reliant on him. It’s not that the amount of time you spent with him was bad, not at all. You just didn’t want to tell him the truth because it would make him too confident.
“Who?” Bakugou asked, looking at you with a confused expression.
“Are you serious?” You laughed, “Are you really that unbelievably bad with names?” When Bakugou didn’t bother to reply, you continued, “Purple hair? Mind control quirk?”
“Him?” Bakugou exclaimed once realization dawned on him, “How are you spending so much time with that guy?”
“I’m interning with him and Aizawa-sensei,” You explained. “I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before.”
Bakugou slumped over his chair and pouted, “I would have remembered that. Why are you even interning with him?”
“Well, if you must know Bakugou-san,” You began, “I don’t have my provisional license and need a way to train. Plus, our quirks work well together. Aizawa-sensei wants us to get our licenses as soon as possible because he wants to see how well we work together in the field.”
Bakugou grumbled something you couldn’t quite hear so you simply ignored it.
“Are you actually upset?” You asked him, noticing his telltale signs of jealousy, but not quite believing he could be the jealous type. Or if you were worth being jealous over.
“No!” He immediately shot back, earning him another shush from the professor. “I just didn’t know you were training with other people too.”
You didn’t believe this was jealousy over you training with other people but knew pushing the subject would make Bakugou irritated. Forcing someone to share their feelings and emotions was never ideal. You could push slightly to see if they would open up, but if the situation isn’t severe, and you receive push back, it is best to let it go for the time being.
You saw the pout on his lips and simply laughed at his cute and childish actions. “What’s gonna make you feel better, huh? Should I tell you about my family’s deep, dark past?”
Bakugou scoffed and turned his body away from yours slightly. “Don’t tease me.”
“What do you mean?” You asked. “You doubt that my family has a dark past? Doesn’t every hero family have one?”
Bakugou called your bluff, “Then go ahead, tell me yours.”
You paused, not sure what to do. “Okay, w-well,” You stumbled over your words slightly, “It’s not that I don’t have one. I just didn’t expect you to actually ask me to tell you.”
You felt nerves erupt in your stomach, wondering how Bakugou would react to you backing out.
Bakugou laughed lightly, moving in his chair to sit up straight and look at you. “I’m never going to force you to tell me anything, but I’ll be here whenever you are ready.”
Oof.
There goes your heart rate, skyrocketing at Bakugou’s words. You did not at all expect a reaction like this. You didn’t know him for long, and you were well aware that you were on a good side that very few saw, but that comment was out of character for him. Or maybe, rather than being out of character, it was a new side of Bakugou even fewer people saw. You wondered if Kirishima had ever seen this side, or if this kind and patient attitude was reserved for the people he was most fond over.
Could this comment really be the key indicator in demonstrating that Bakugou had feelings for you? The anxiety and doubt that was ever so prominent in your life washed over you like a wave trying to rationalize why Bakugou would say something like that without concluding the specialness it held.
While you panicked, Bakugou began packing up his bag, putting away his laptop and notebook. He could see the gears turning in your head, and he knew that his comment pushed past the walls each of you set up in your friendship.
But maybe he didn’t care. However, it’s not like you could tell with the earbuds in that prevented you from reading his mind.
“You ready to go?” He asked while you stared into space like an idiot. He leaned into your line of view to bring you out of it.
“Huh?” You blinked a few times before locking eyes with the blond. “Yeah,” Your hoarse voice croaked out. Your throat had gone drier than you expected. You grabbed your bag and water quickly, “Do you want to go train at all?”
Bakugou looked out the windows, watching the sun start to set. “It’s a bit late, and I’m sure dinner is ready by now.” He looked down at his phone, “I can’t believe it’s almost 7:00.”
“Really?” You inquired, leaning toward him to check the time on his phone. “Damn, I didn’t expect us to be here so long.” You moved back to give yourself room to stretch. “We’ve been sitting for so long, I feel like I should do yoga and go on a run just to make up for it.”
Bakugou smiled at you, much kinder than you would expect him to. You felt the butterflies once again flutter in your stomach as you turned away to hide your face. Your cheeks were hot, and your mind was rushing quickly with ideas of what today meant. You definitely needed to talk to Ashido.
“If you’re still up for it after dinner, I’d love to go with you to the gym,” Bakugou offered.
“Is the gym usually busy at night?” You asked, trying to brush past his proposition. The idea that Bakugou wanted to spend more time with you than he already did was driving you crazy.
“Hmm, good question.” Bakugou started. “There are a few different ones on campus so that some can be reserved for groups or training sessions with teachers, but I don’t think a lot of people go after dinner. If you’re worried about that, we can always go to the track and use the yoga room which is always quiet and chill.”
You shrugged your shoulders and smiled at the red-eyed boy, “Either sounds good! Now let’s get back so I can eat.” You pouted and rubbed your stomach.
Bakugou snorted at your behavior before leading the way and opening the door for you. The conversation between you two flowed easily, with it mainly revolving around the class and the sports festival.
When you arrived home, you were each greeted by your classmates. Bakugou didn’t bother to reply to their greetings and instead rushed upstairs to drop off his things. You, on the other hand, immediately went to Ashido’s side.
“Bathroom, now.”
You pulled her away from Kirishima’s side and led her into the bathroom before checking to make sure no one else was in there.
“You and Bakugou didn’t even hide that you came home together, literally in front of everyone,” Ashido said before you even had a chance to speak.
“I know!” You exclaimed, smiling widely at the idea. You looked from Ashido to the mirror and checked your appearance, luckily, you still looked just as good when you left. “We literally hung out in the library for over 3 hours, talking about the sports festival, other shit, and being way too close to each other.” You turned back to your friend.
Ashido shook you in excitement while she squealed. “Are you going to give me details or what?” She asked after finally letting you go.
“Yes, of course, okay.” You tried your best to collect your thoughts. “First off, we were watching videos on his laptop, so we were sharing his earbuds and sitting so close that our shoulders were touching.”
“Oh my god!”
“Not only that,” You continued, “But anytime our shoulders did brush, I could tell that, although he was focused on the videos, he was also nervous because of how close he was to me.”
“No fucking way!”
“I know!” You practically shouted. “And you know how I am interning with Shinsou,” She nodded, “He literally was jealous when I brought it up. I didn’t even have to touch him to know because he was pouting, getting defensive, and just clearly upset.”
From per excitement, Ashido practically jumped around the bathroom. “Y/L/N-chan! I think Bakugou likes you!” She spoke in a sing-song voice. The smile on her face was just as wide as yours and you felt your cheeks heat up again.
“You think?” You asked.
She nodded fervently in response.
“Well, guess what?” You began, “I brought up doing yoga and running after dinner and he literally asked to join me.”
“You are literally going on a date,” Ashido immediately insisted.
“No, I’m not!” You sheepishly replied, scratching at your face and looking away. “That’s a little much.”
“Sure,” Ashido mocked you. “And sky totally isn’t blue.”
You rolled your eyes at the girl and waved her off. “I just want to take things slow,” You explained.
Ashido leaned in closer to you, “And that is why you are a great match for him.” She smiled widely, “I totally bet you guys will be together before the end of the year.”
You laughed, “Don’t make a bet on my relationship.”
“Okay, okay,” Ashido held her hands up in defeat. “But just know I’m in your corner.”
You smiled at your friend fondly before changing the subject. “Anyways, I’m hungry. Do you know what is for dinner?”

for the 100k fic celebration, here a portion of the “what if 10x05 had a sastiel agenda?” AKA lil shit sam/jealous dean destiel fic I first shared a while back! been having a lot of fun basically rewriting and expanding on the entire musical episode with new songs (and lots of cute kristen & siobhan moments because OF COURSE they’re still a couple.) it was really encouraging to see the positive response to it back then and it's been taking forever because of work/other writing but I’m so excited to have this one be the first full-length fics I ever post.
It starts with costumed teenagers locked in a tight embrace with absolutely no room for Jesus.
“What are they doing?”
Marie glances over her shoulder for only a brief second.
“Kids these days call it hugging,” she says slowly. Geez, it would’ve been less insulting for her to just outright say Wow, you’re old.
Except it’s not just any of the show’s stars hugging over there. One of them is the “Dean” who’d been mid-rehearsal when they arrived and looked more like Bieber than him with the blonde wig. And the other? Well, he would recognize that Columbo coat anywhere.
“Is that in the show?” he asks, pointing their way.
Marie quickly shakes her head at the accusation. “Oh, no. Siobhan and Kristen are a couple in a real life.”
He nods and lower his hand. Got it. That’s all it was. Everything’s fine. Nothing to worry about—
“No, my play explores the nature of Sastiel.”
“The — wait, what?” he says, confused at once.
“Sastiel?” Marie pauses, giving him a second to figure it out. He doesn’t. “You know, the relationship between Sam and Castiel?”
Dean blinks.
“Sam and…C-Cas?”
“I know, I know. Edlund’s series never finished. I’m lucky I got these drafts. Ugh, it’s Midnight Sun all over again. But the love story is all in the subtext,” she says with confidence. “Can you believe there are people who still think Destiel is endgame? After everything that happened after the angels fell? After Gadreel? Please.”
He silently sounds out the word. Des-tiel? Wait…
“Ever since Cas came back from the dead and took on Sam’s pain, I knew. I just knew. Every one of their arcs had been parallel to each other’s from their fall from grace to the trials. And now with Dean gone, all they have…is each other.”
Marie sighs. “Besides, you can’t spell subtext without S-E-X.”
He coughs and nearly chokes on an asteroid-sized lump in his throat.
“I…uh. Yeah, th-that’s not…you know, I think I’ve seen enough,” Dean says with a forced smile. “Thank you for your, ah, time. I’ll, uh, we’ll follow up if we have questions about the missing persons case. I—alright.”
And with that he purses his lips, turns on his heel and walks away — nearly tripping over one of the stage chords as he does. Why are there are so many of them anyways? This is just some all-girls school production, not the goddamn West End.
He finds Sam in his natural nerd habitat (the tech booth) sifting through all the bins of A/V supplies.
“Yeah, not to interrupt the blast from the past here but it’s time for us to go,” he says, patting the door.
His brother shoots him an annoyed look but packs up and follows him out all the same. Not that Dean bothers to wait for him; no, he makes a beeline for the car as soon as he leaves the booth.
“Hey, what’s with the rush?” Sam calls after him as he runs to catch up with him at the school entrance.
“No rush,” he says shortly. “Just wanted to see what you found out before you got too lost in the nerd sauce over there.”
He doesn’t need to look back to know he’s on the receiving end of a Classic Sam Bitchface right now and continues to stomp his way through the parking lot.
“Well, no EMF, no hex bags. None of their props are remotely hinky. Talked to Maeve and all those extras in the auditorium.” Sam finally catches up and walks side-by-side with him now. “You have any more luck?”
“Nah. Ms. Chandler's office is just a pile of empty bottles and regret. She's probably just face down in a bar somewhere. Or a ditch. I did get to hear all about the director’s, ah, creative vision though,” Dean says, teeth gritted. “Apparently we go into space, I become a woman, and there’s even ninjas and robots!”
“Robots. Huh. Well, that’d definitely be a new one.”
“There’s no robots in Supernatural—”
“I-I know that,” Sam says in exasperation. “I just mean it’s, y’know, innovative. And Dean we’ve fought weirder. Remember the teddy bear? The fairies? The ballet shoes?”
“Well, you just wait until you hear about what she in store for you, Lover Boy,” he says.
And that makes Sam do an instant double-take.
“Uh, Lover Boy?”
“Yeah, your number one fan back there —” he says, gesturing back towards the school, “— was telling me all about the play’s, uh, love story between you and Cas. You got something you’ve been meaning to tell me or what?”
“The love story? Wait, what do you mean me and Cas?”
Dean scoffs, already in utter disbelief of the words he was about to say. “Like you and Cas, together. Together together? Romance of the ages the way she made it sound. Apparently it’s all in her play!”
To his surprise though, Sam just… laughs. “Well, I mean hey, that’s an improvement from the ones who wrote about me and you.”
“You got that right,” he agrees with a shudder. Meeting one Becky the Stalker was bad enough. Knowing she wasn’t alone and that she had an audience made it even worse. “She even had a portmanteau for you, dude. Like you’re some celebrities in a grocery store tabloid. Sass-tiel.”
“Sass-tiel?” He seems to seriously consider it but shrugs. “I don’t know. What about… Samstiel? CasSam? Cam? Mmm, maybe not that…”
Dean groans. “Really? That’s your issue with this?”
“Of course it’s not my issue,” Sam says. He stays pensive for a few more seconds until chuckling again to himself this time, as if he’s the only one in on a private joke. “I mean, don’t get me wrong, Cas is great but…”
“Not your type?”
“Yeah, sure,” Sam says. No, it’s definitely more than that and he’s doing a piss-poor job of hiding his amused expression.
Dean turns and stares him down. “What?”
“I dunno,” he says, his smirk fully visible now. “I just think it’s funny they’re pairing me up with Cas when the one with the ‘profound bond’ with him is right there.”
“Oh, haha. You’re hilarious,” Dean retorts at once.
“Hey man, I’m not the one who stayed in Purgatory for a year to find him.”
His glare takes on a murderous edge.
“Okay. You know what? You’re going to do that thing where you just shut the hell up! Forever!”
Sam holds up his hands in either what’s either a show of innocence or surrender.
“Alright, alright. Well, other than the Charlie Kaufman of it all I got nothing.”
“So…what?” Dean says. “This-this all... This whole musical thing, everything, it's... it's all a coincidence? There is no case?”
“Unless you're seeing something I'm not, no, Dean. There's no case here,” he says sincerely this time.
“Come on. This has classic Trickster vibes all over it.” He almost wants to turn around and start yelling, Come on out Gabriel you bastard!
“Trickster’s dead, man. And he wasn’t just a trickster, he was an archangel. And they’re all gone too.”
“Could be a lower-rank angel?” Dean tries. “I mean, Zachariah pulled off an entire apocalypse world. And that place where we were both corporate drones. Before you know it, this’ll get all Buffy and it’ll be me and you singin’ and dancin’—“
“Dean…I think it’s just fans. Look, as long as they’re not putting another love spell on one of us I couldn’t really care less what they’re doing,” Sam says with some bitterness, clearly not looking back at that particular memory with any fondness. “Just writing some songs? I mean, it’s innocent enough.”
“Oh yeah, so innocent,” he scoffs. “They’re singing about our dead parents, your demon blood bender, the apocalypse, all of it! This is just…it’s make-believe for them! But it’s our lives!”
Sam runs a tired hand through his hair. “Look, I don’t get it either man. I wasn’t exactly thinking about the books’ entertainment value while Chuck was describing my sex life in vivid detail—“
“Don’t remind me,” he says, holding up a hand in disgust.
“—but I dunno. There’s obviously something about it they connected to, right? Something they related to, something that moved them, inspired them? And I guess…I mean, what’s wrong with that?”
There is so, so much wrong with that.
“I don’t know what story they’re reading and what Sam and Dean they’re ‘connecting’ to here. But it sure as hell ain’t us. I mean…they even made me blonde, dude.”
“It’s a high school play, what can you expect?” Sam laughs. “It was probably the closest wig they could find at Party City.”
Dean ignores him, muttering aloud as he makes his way to the driver’s seat.
“The hair…the singing…the robots… the love story…”
“You really were bothered by that, weren’t you?” Sam gives his brother a curious look.
“SUPERNATURAL ISN’T A ROMANCE!” Dean snaps. “Look, these girls obviously don’t know what they’re talking about—“
“I dunno, Dean,” Sam said in a clearly taunting voice now. “Maybe you’re just jealous of what me and Cas have.”
He flushes. “W-what? I-I’m not—“
“We could give you two a name too, y’know? So you don’t feel left out? What about…Dee-stiel? CasDean?”
And he refuses to entertain this conversation any longer.
“Shut your face! Get in the car!”
Thankfully Sam notices the shift in tone and obliges at once.
Dean, meanwhile, takes a moment outside the car to glance around — almost as if checking to see if anyone overheard that comment. Not that it mattered. Who could overhear? No one even knew they were THE Sam and THE Dean. Who cared? He certainly didn’t care. He didn’t care at all...

(mega apologies if I already sent one and forgot) 16 (broken wings) + alphys?
If you had sent two i would make two. Thanks for asking!
Here it goes. I... Took this in an unexpected way haha
RecordsOfOurOwn
Words: 1184
Link to AO3
"Dr. Alphys!" There was a metallic clunk at the lab's door. Alphys stopped typing on her computer and walked to greet the person on the other side. A few humans lifted their heads from their desks, but otherwise ignored her and kept working.
"Umm... it's just Alphys now, sorry." She opened the door and gasped.
Tsunderplane stood outside, one of her wings pressed against the door. Her other wing hung loose, some of the metal plates with a few bumps. It seemed like a painful image, however the monster showed no sign of suffering, only mild discomfort.
"Tsunderplane" wasn't her real name, but a nickname the young monster wore with pride. She used to wander around western Hotland, and Alphys met her a couple of times whenever she decided to go outside her Lab. Now, she attended Ebott University, along with a few monsters.
Alphys worked there as a helper. She didn't want to be a researcher again, but Undyne had encouraged her to bring her knowledge in magic-based science to educate humans on those topics. Not all her titles were recognized, but her experience was still respected.
Alphys opened both doors of her office and led Tsunderplane to the work station right behind her desk.
"What happened t-to your wing?" She held her, careful not to cause any more pain. The student didn't flinch.
"It's not like something bad happened." She rolled her eyes, but at Alphys's stern look she admitted. "I just crashed against a tree. I didn't think they were so tall."
"Thank goodness it was just an accident." She realized her words could be taken the wrong way and corrected herself: "I m-mean. I am sorry you got hurt but I'm glad it wasn't- that you weren't hurt by someone."
"It happens and I'm not in pain, it's just awkward. I guess there's still more about the surface I need to learn."
"But why didn't you go to a nurse?"
"They're all human."
"Oh... right. Yeah. Let's see if I can do something for you. B-but, I'll be careful. I'm not t-the best for the task."
"What do you mean? You're brilliant! You made Mettaton, right? You know your way around metal parts. I trust you" Tsunderplane cheered her. "Besides, I don't have any food in my inventory. I don't know if it will fix everything."
Alphys barely processed the second part of her statement, she was surprised to see a monster trust in her abilities... especially after what she'd done.
"Doc?"
"Oh, I'm sorry, kid. H-hang on. I'll go grab some tools." Alphys felt her hands sweaty, she cleaned them on her lab coat and walked towards a storage closet by the other side of the room.
As the lizard inspected each compartment, Tsunderplane looked at the place around her. The former royal scientist’ computer desk took her interest over everything else. She noticed a dark red logo she recognized very well. “RecordsOfOurOwn”. No way. Did Alphys know about that website? Surprisingly, the humans had their own equivalent, and after months of work, both websites were now compatible with each other. Maybe it made sense that Alphys worked with the administration team?
Upon taking a closer look, she saw that there was an open draft. So she’s a writer, Tsunderplane thought. The idea amused her, but deep down she was curious. She had her own addiction to fanfiction back then. She had to admit that the quality of what she read may have influenced how she viewed relationships. After getting to the Surface, she became a more mature and realistic person. She still enjoyed fanfiction, but she took a more responsible approach to them. But what could Alphys be writing about? Did they share any fandoms?
A loud clatter was heard from the storage closet. Well… it didn’t hurt to look right? She leaned closer, eager to see the secrets the scientist hid… And found an author’s note. What a bummer. It read:
Hello guys, MewMewFan89 here.
I know I left all my stories on hiatus for almost a year, and I’m really sorry! I guess life really got in the way back then haha. Just when the Barrier fell. We were gonna have the intervention of our heroes Nydune and Salyph, who had just found the way to make the perfect couple work in The Undying and The Amazing. I know we were also getting to the good part when Nass and the mysterious voice finally met their true love and finally held hands, and also Telior finally came back to Sagreo as the waterfall crystals foretold. And then! in “Dance with Souls” our favorite character Tametton would realize that his biggest fan would change his life. Ok I got carried away but what I wanted to say was...
Hold on. She knew this writer! Her stories were well known across the UnderNet. The creativity in them was incredible, and Tsunderplane always wondered where she got the inspiration. She wanted to read the rest of the note, but was started by a high pitched noise from the lizard.
“Oh No no no no, I shouldn’t have left the tab open! I’m sorry you had to see this”
“You’re MewMewFan89?”
“Ah…” No point in lying anymore. “Yes?”
“I loved your stories! I was so addicted to them back in the Underground!” Alphys started working on her broken wing with a mix of tools and green healing magic. “How did you come up with all of it?”
Alphys felt her sweater pressed too hard against her neck. “I’ll admit I took some inspiration from…. life itself.”
“Wow! You must know some really interesting people! So when’s the next part coming up?”
“See… that’s the- umm, I’m sorry to say this but I’m not finishing them.”
“Oh... “ Tsunderplane’s excitement dropped. Well, it seems she was never getting her answers. “Well… that’s fine. But why?”
“W-well… When you write something so personal you start projecting a lot of your desires on the characters.” She almost drops a piece on the floor out of nervousness. “And then these characters and their lives become an idealized version that can never be real. It’s not healthy to live like that. W-with a fantasy that’s unreal, and expect real life to play out the same way.”
“That is… really sensible. I’ve matured a lot myself in the past year too.
“Oh! A-and also one of my friends almost finds my account. I would feel so awkward if they realized I’m writing about real people, haha.”
“Yeah, that doesn’t sound very healthy.”
Alphys nodded, and set the last fixed metal plate on the right place.
“I think your writing style is still good. If you ever find something else to write about… maybe you should give it a try. I’d love to read it.” Tsunderplane moved her wing, and satisfied with the result, she thanked Alphys and left.
Alphys went back to her desk and finished her Author’s note. Perhaps it would disappoint some people, but even if she made mistakes, there was room to improve and people who trusted her to do her best.
