Hey y'all! Here is Efan's quick rundown and review of almost all the cool games I played this year, as well as my Steam in Review!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. Darkest Dungeon
Tumblr media
I've been playing this game for nearly ten years, and I finally beat it this year. Not a 2023 release, but a huge milestone for myself. After a terrible year before it, I made it a goal to face my fears and beat this game. Lo' and behold, I did, and it's one of my own personal gaming accomplishments. It's solidified as the best turn based game I've ever played, but it does have its late-game issues, specifically with the Crimson Court maps and the final dungeon maps. It's just absurd tbh. However, this is one of my favorite games of all time, if not my favorite, and it's a must have for horror fans, HP Lovecrft fans, and turn based game fans. 9.7/10
2. Sun Haven
Tumblr media
A wonderful and cute farming sim that scratched an itch no other could scratch. Its characters are fun, the music is solid, the graphics are very bright and fantastical, and the combat was simple yet kinda fun. I really loved the progression in this game too. It still has its issues, such as the late game (it may have been fixed because this game was in early access) and some of the utility of the workbenches you can use. All in all, a very solid farming sim (and just life sim in general tbh) if you like a little bit of fantasy mixed in. 9/10
3. Halls of Torment
Tumblr media
My favorite Survivor game. The music, aesthetics, progression, characters, and maps are all different enough to keep you coming back for more. As I am disabled, these games are actually super fun to play because I only have to play with one hand. It was in early access when I played it heavily, so it had some issues like the handling of inventory, some balance issues, and feature creep issues, but they may have been fixed now. 9.3/10
4. Cassette Beasts
Tumblr media
A must-play monster battler with an amazing plot, an incredible soundtrack, interesting monsters, and great characters for the most part. If you've been really wanting a game that is reminiscent of Pokemon colleseum but also want that 2d love of the Black and White games, this is a must have. It does have some balance issues (again, early access game when I played), but other than that and maybe some performance issues that are probably fixed by now, it was an incredible game that made me want a 2d Pokemon game more than ever. 9/10
5. Roboquest
Tumblr media
A fantastic FPS roguelike game with great gunplay, movement, art direction, and music too. Each weapon feels pretty unique, it has melee weapons (wish there were more though) and a progression system that's really cool. It plays like if Doom Eternal had a kid with Borderlands, and I think plays a bit better than any other RANGED FPS roguelike/lite that I've played. I will say the difficulty settings are really cool, but I think they are a little too enticing due to game balance as of 1.0 due to progression being a bit of a grind. I think that having different endings for each difficulty might be a cool idea, each as satisfying as the other, but I know that can be a pain to develop. 9/10
6. Mortal Sin
Tumblr media
A beautifully dark and trippy mostly melee FPS roguelike that takes the intensity of DOOM and the melee weapons of Elderborn and drenches it in a slow-mo filled, heavy swinging fun time. It's definitely the most FUN game this year as I've been craving an FPS melee roguelike for a while. It accomplishes this and then some with pretty cool progression that adds some variety to each game. The art direction reminds me of a more purple and red MORK BORG (fellow TTRPGers rejoice) and I LOVE it. The only issues to me are that the story and lore are a bit boring and lacking, but again it's in early access, so it has time to cook. 9.5/10
7. And last, my game of the year, LUNACID by @stylishkira
Tumblr media
What a gorgeous game all around. The music has probably the most atmosphere out of any indie game I've played outside of Darkest Dungeon. Its levelling system is accessible but fun, you can create your own character with their own name and profile picture which I think is SO cool (Mortal Sin should totally do this if it's not too much of a copy). The combat is really fun and the sound design is probably second, once again, to Darkest Dungeon. It was an absolutely magical experience playing this game, and an experience I don't think I'll ever forget. I do think, however, that the ending feels really really rushed, and that sullied my experience a little bit, and the bosses are pretty unbalanced because you can just spam all of your health potions and tank the bosses, but the experience leading up to the ending is amazing. Also, I know the true ending is purposely a little complex, but tbh, if the goal was to have the "true" endings similar to the Souls games, having the final climactic boss (which I won't spoil, but is really cool) be the core of the normal ending, paired with alternate endings WITH that really cool final boss I think, might make the experience a bit more satisfying. It's already kinda implemented, but I loved this game so much that the standard ending just kinda felt....empty. Don't let these critiques stop you from playing this game, however. It's one of my favorites of all time, and I only give these critiques because I love this game so much. This is a MUST PLAY, and for the price, it's an absolute steal and should be priced up, imo. I cannot wait to see where the direction of possible King's Field style games come, because I am THIRSTY for more! 9.6/10
Annnddddddd that's it! Some great other games I played this year were the Demon Souls remake (9.2/10) Shadow of the Colossus (9.3/10), and Bloodborne (for probably the 30th time, and that's no joke, 9.8/10), and Quake (9.8/10).

Hey just thinking out loud but uh
Am I the only person who's been told they're "smart" their whole life but analyzes everything to the point that they feel like one wrong calculation or some parameter of their life being changed would result in a very different and probably less stable person?
It might be the [4:47 AM] talking but right now I could really go for horrifying a group of people in a swordfight by letting my impulse to act bat shit insane out
... I mean Raiden before the Monsoon fight levels of insane
If you get that reference then you get internet points
Edit: it occurs to me I play every game like I'm bat shit insane
Apex: "I wanna go shoot someone" is my most said phrase
Factorio: during the last 2 days I both made a plane full of [fallout mini nukes but with less damage and more fire] and a circuit thing that just sends RGB lights in a circle
Project wingman: F/S-15 MLAA, more MLAA, MLAG, AOA limiter, just fucking sending it towards everything, also I rarely come back with much ammo for my main gun, no I didn't run out of missles, I just like [gun go brrrrrrr]
Helldivers: I bring 500kg, napalm strike, and the arc thrower normally, I do not care about safety
Subnautica: seamoth gets eaten by reaper, my response was "Hey! Fucker I using that! That was mine!" Not scared of this thing that can one shot me just yelling at it
Pizza tower: I spent 3 hours on the first level tryna tryna S rank it, was six points off, died 12 times bc I refused to leave unless I did two laps solely because the soundtrack slaps that hard
Doom eternal: sets difficulty to max, refuses to elaborate, shoots demons (dies a lot)
I don't think I physically can play like a normal sane person, primarily bc I'm not "normal"
Fuck you [group of 6 psychiatrists] who spent 4 hours just to tell me they couldn't tell if I had autism, they also couldn't tell if I didn't
Docs in CA are pretty [pick your favorite insult]

mick gordons article about doom eternal's music situation is completely fucked and way too long to the point where i can't even sum it all up in a throwaway post but some quick highlights:
half of the music that's used in the game and the soundtrack release were initially rejected, and as such, id hasn't payed mick for half of the music that they've used. this includes 2 of the tracks that were played at the quakecon announcement for the game
the physical awards for the doom soundtracks are also sitting in id's office and mick has only ever seen them once
he went 8 months without pay, and then 11 months without pay, with no other major projects at the time
alleges this is the second time bethesda has released music of his without his knowledge, the other time being some game he worked on in 2015, and he only learned about that while trying to get the doom eternal situation resolved. bethesda was aware they hadn't payed him and agreed to include payment for it for a complete eternal soundtrack release
he was given 29 days to make said soundtrack once he was finally given a contract for it, he did this despite having to skip easter dinner with his family, then they rejected it and released the one that came out anyway

Is It Really That Bad?
Tumblr media
I don’t think anyone would call 2006’s Silent Hill the greatest horror film ever, but it’s hard to deny that it is one of the better early attempts at a video game adaptation. The film has some really baffling changes to the plot, sure, but it’s honestly pretty faithful in regards to the visuals and the atmosphere. Sure, some of the symbolism is thrown in to look cool—what the fuck is Pyramid Head doing here, for one—but it’s readily apparent that this film was made by someone who gets the games, who understands the appeal. The result is a film that, again, isn’t beloved like some video game adaptations but most definitely commands a lot of respect and has a respectable fanbase in and of itself.
The same cannot be said for the 2012 sequel, Silent Hill: Revelation.
This movie killed the career of director MJ Bassett, relegating her to television work since then with her only upcoming project the eternally-stuck-in-development-hell reboot of Red Sonja. It also killed any momentum the franchise had, with it taking 11 years for another film to begin development, and who knows if Return to Silent Hill will even come out (I’d love for it to, especially if it really is adapting the second game).
On top of all that, fans weren’t exactly receptive to it. In fact, they were so unperceptive that this film barely registers in discussions of bad movies at all; if I wasn’t a big Silent Hill fan I probably wouldn’t remember it even exists. But maybe people were too harsh on this film; maybe it’s yet another hidden gem among video game movies. Something you may not know about me is I am a huge video game movie apologist; aside from enjoying the obvious stuff like the recent Sonic and Mario movies, I also enjoy the 90s Mario movie, Street Fighter, both takes on Mortal Kombat… Sure, I’ve seen some garbage like Max Payne and Doom, but the reputation of video game movies as unwatchable garbage is greatly exaggerated in my opinion.
So with all that said, I promised to take you to that town I see in my restless dreams and figure out if Revelation is really that bad, or if the hole of negative reception for this movie is gone now.
THE GOOD
Well, the practical effects are all still pretty good, with some really creative monsters. And there are a few scenes here and there with cool and creative imagery.
Tumblr media
What else... oh! Adelaide Clemens is actually genuinely good as Heather. I mean, the writing for her is as bad as the writing for everyone else, but by god is Clemens really giving it her all. She manages to outshine veteran actors like Malcolm McDowell, Sean Bean, and Carrie-Anne Moss. So props to her!
Tumblr media
The soundtrack is pretty decent… No complaints there. Fuck guys, I’m really trying... Hm... Oh yeah! Pyramid Head is here for some fucking reason! It makes no goddamn sense, but I’m ultimately a simple man. I see Pyramid Head, I am happy.
Tumblr media
Yeah okay I’m done trying to be nice.
THE BAD
This film is just ass from start to finish.
Here’s something a lot of people don’t understand when it comes to adaptations: Sometimes it’s best not to be completely accurate to what you’re adapting. The first film has the respect it does because it’s a loose adaptation that tells a familiar story with unique elements to it while keeping the core elements that make the series so beloved—the emotional moments, the horror, the atmosphere, the visuals. This film, on the other hand, swings into being way too faithful and trying to shoehorn the plot of Silent Hill 3 into the continuity of the films, which does nothing but rip a dozen plot holes open and comes off as desperate course correction that wasn’t needed at all. I’ll give it this—the movie is putting in a lot of effort to keeping this movement towards accuracy to the games from feeling too contrived.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to appreciate the efforts the film is going to due to how legitimately bad everything is. The acting is undeniably worse all across the board, even from legendary actors like Malcolm McDowell; the script is amateurish and ludicrous, with stupid twists and unbearably bland or bad dialogue in nearly every scene; and the CGI is just not up to the standard the first film set. In a way, this film is the original The Rise of Skywalker in how it dumped everything from the contentious film before it and tried way too hard to course correct to disastrous results, all while the previous film began to get a second look due to the catastrophic failure of the newer one.
The director said she wanted to deliver a continuation of the first film first, and an adaptation of the third game second, but with all the clunky retcons in a desperate attempt to emulate the game we’re left with a poorly-paced mess of a movie that is cramming way too much into a 90 minute runtime. The film is just a fifty car pileup of bad ideas, and genuinely there’s not much else to say. Revelation is so bereft of anything resembling good ideas that there is so little I could say that was positive and everything bad about it is so broad that it’s just not enjoyable to talk about, since what’s the point of singling out a bad element when all the other elements around it suck ass too?
IS IT REALLY THAT BAD?
This is genuinely, truly a bad movie, but honestly? It wasn’t a painful experience.
Like this movie pretty obviously sucks. It’s an abject failure at portraying the story of the game it is ostensibly adapting to the silver screen, it has terrible dialogue, it wastes its actors, and it seems more focused on gory visuals and cheap jumpscares than actually trying to be atmospheric or engaging. I don’t know if you noticed, but there wasn’t a lot for me to talk about here, and that’s because this film is so dull and unoriginal that theres really not much to say. I hate that I couldn’t really dive deeper into how much it sucks, but it just sucks in the most tepid, uninspired ways, ways that don’t invoke much besides an annoyed eyeroll from me. It is genuinely like if Michael Bay tried to make a horror film.
Ultimately, though, that’s the very thing that “saves” this; it is just so dumb that I can easily see how someone could mine entertainment from this in a “so bad it’s good” way. Sure, I didn’t like this film and was bored watching it, but I didn’t feel vitriolic hate for it or anything. I just thought it was a subpar horror film that can’t live up to the games or the previous movie, which is a tall order to begin with. And really, is being a subpar horror film that much of a crime? I’d say it’s better than being as dogshit as Slender Man, Smiley, The Bye Bye Man, or any of the other genuinely abysmal horror films I’ve had to sit through. Horror is a genre of extremes, where typically you’ll either see one of the best and scariest films of your life or the most tedious waste of time imaginable that will have you calling for the director’s head. To find a horror film that’s just perfectly and stupidly mediocre is genuinely impressive. I’m gonna say that 4.9 score is entirely completely fair; the movie is just below average, and while it’s certainly shitty there’s no denying that it has some value as mindless entertainment.
Again, this is a bad film. I am not in any way recommending watching this, especially when you could watch the first film (or better yet just play the games). But when you consider some of the crap I’ve had to sit through for this show, I’ll take a bad movie that only gets me mildly annoyed over a bad movie that makes me legitimately angry or offended like Land of the Lost. And as piss-poor as this film is, it’s still a better adaptation than Ratchet & Clank was!

OK, I was tagged to spell out my url in songs I like by a few people (I am sorry, I have already lost track of who - I am pretty sure @saxifrage-wreath was one, but thank you to all of you!) So here we go.
S - "Shy" by Sarah Jessica Parker
Not a fan of the musical as a whole, but this song is bursting with good humour and fun for an alto. The fact that you get to blast the phrase, "I've always been SHYYYYYYYYYY" at the top of your lungs like a brass band going by really is the best.
I -"Inventor's Daughter" by Branches
I love the imagery and storytelling of this one - it's really only capturing about thirty seconds of their lives and yet I can imagine both him and her so clearly.
E - "England" by Great Big Sea
A lovely little song about some of the first Englishmen to arrive in Newfoundland.
N - "Now and For Always" from the Lord of the Rings Musical
When I was a little kid there was a period where I more or less knew the story of LOTR, but only as far as the end of the 1978 animated film. The last we see of Frodo and Sam, Sam has just expressed that he doubt they have rations for a return journey, and "after that..." Frodo, to the most poignant music has grasped Sam by the shoulders and said, "Oh Sam, Samwise Gamgee. My dearest Hobbit, friend of friends. After that? If the Ring goes into the fire, and we are at hand? After that, dear Sam. I wouldn't worry." (He turns away) Just to get there. Just to get there. The Ring is so heavy now, Sam." And then Gollum shows up, and leads them off over the ridge in search fo the winding stair. And I had no idea what happened to them after that. But that VHS was well worn, even more worn into my heart that into the tape, and to me it was like some kind of neverending myth. As though Frodo and Sam were still journeying to Mount Doom - eternal wanderers on their way to save the world in spite of weariness and suffering. This song, based on another conversation in the book, makes me feel the same way that moment in the movie did so long ago, when I didn't know how it ended.
A - "Augustine" by Vienna Tang
Ring for an Augustine tonight.
S- "The Show" by Lenka
Because it makes me think of a dear friend who considered this her theme song in one season of her life.
E - "Eight Days a Week" by the Beatles
I used to do quite a lot of ballroom dancing, and this one was a favourite for the foxtrot.
V - "Voice in My Throat" by Pearl and the Beard
A friend put this on a very sweet character playlist, and so it's associated with both her and with Gwendolyn from KQ.
E - "Emile et Raoul" from the "A Monster in Paris" soundtrack
Just a lovely little instrumental in a frankly outstanding soundtrack. (Almost all the songs are fantastic, though the instrumentals are nice too.)
N - "Neck of the Woods" by Maisie Peters
Lyrical, joyful, confident, all about closeness and growth.
W -"Will I Find My Home in You" (acoustic version) by Juniper Veil.
I put it in my Portland Row playlist, and have since fallen in love with it.
I - "I Love Rossini" by Andrea Boccelli
I do love Rossini, this one was a favourite when I was fifteen or so, and it now makes me think of my secondary lead character.
T - "The Tower" by Alana Henderson
A song about healing and patience, and I also associate it with Berlyne Alvarado.
S - "She's With Me" by High Valley
High energy, sheer devotion, makes me think of Mary if I listen selectively to the lyrics.

back when i was trying to get back into brute forcing game dev (i am very stupid) I had aspirations of making an RPG in the Doom engine inspired by stuff like Strife, Hedon and Lycanthorn as well as a Hylics mod my friend was making for Doom which gave me the idea to make it about a cartoonish wizard that used spells with goofy hand gestures in place of regular weapons. I got disheartened when I was told about the limitations of DoomBuilder and my depression and then my life when to absolute shit before I could do anything but hold onto my soul like the safety rail of a rollercoaster car. I still thought about it a lot in the back of my mind, about enemy types like necromancers that would turn dead enemies into animated skeletons, a large battle between two castles the player would get into, secret forest mazes, magic items that would give you a double jump or a hover, the Doom Eternal-like rhythm of strafing and swapping spells for certain enemies, even a small class system that affected your starting gear and a plot about animated dolls and the sheltered life of a wizard's apprentice. Inventory would be managed in a "mind palace" where you could also check your quest progress and find secret levels taking place in the player character's psyche. One of the spells in this drawing is "shooting star," where you hold down the fire button to conjure more stars and release to fire them one after the other or press alt fire to release them all at once in a shotgun-like spread.
I have a friend who might teach me rpg maker which I'm excited for but I don't think it's what would fit what I had in mind for this game. Maybe with some encouragement and guidance I'll return to DoomBuilder or something similar. I'd like to, but thinking about doing it and actually doing it are two different things. I think when I started making music I was imagining it'd be this game's soundtrack, I know making a game on your own especially the open world zelda-meets-dragons-dogma adventure game I had in my head is incredibly difficult, but I think I could at least do the music, graphics, writing and maybe a portion of the actual meat. It'd look a bit ugly on purpose like if a team of deviant art users were tasked with rebooting a 3DO game with an insultingly mediocre stab at imitating the works of graham kartna, toby fox and some of niel cic's older stuff like what he was doing under the name Deporiatz.
I don't know. Ive felt stupid all of my adult life, I hate being stupid and learning is hard, I've been extremely insecure about my art ever since ny ipad shattered and I could no longer draw with the same polish I had before, last time I asked for art criticism I was told "this looks like you don't draw very often" by an artist I really adored and that kinda put me in the muck about it. I still draw I just rarely post it out of anxiety. Idk I guess I'm trying to rip some sort of band aid off and see what happens. Probably nothing, the number of people who will see this are probably in the single digits and ill probably delete this post out of embarrassment in a few days, but the thoughts will stay with me.

DBD x Silent Hill Fun Facts:
(Spoilers for SH1-SH3)
Tumblr media
The Lisa Garland that appears in DBD isn’t the real one and is instead the monster manifestation of Lisa Garland. Why this version of Lisa was taken in unclear, since the Entity can take people before they die, but it’s most likely because of how powerful “Lisa’s” suffering was when Harry left her (which is when the Entity took her in the timeline.)
Pyramid Head is also weird, since technically he doesn’t exist and is a manifestation unique to James, so it’s possible that in canon James was taken at the same time as Cheryl despite being added much later. That or the manifestation of Pyramid Head was taken but sometime later the Entity went back for James, likely to motivate Pyramid Head more.
Another thing about Lisa is she seems very happy to be here. It’s not uncommon to see survivors that are smiling or look calm, but Lisa is smiling from ear to ear. It’s likely the reason she is so happy is because even though she’s now trapped in an alternate dimension and forced to be repeatedly killed, she is now no longer alone in Silent Hill doomed to be tortured for an eternity. At least in the Entity’s realm she is with other people, can take breaks, and has a chance to survive.
Akira Yamaoka created a unique soundtrack for the Silent Hill chapter, including lobby music and menu music, though the menu music is currently unavailable since it was only added for the release. You can still listen to it online.
Cheryl Mason was taken roughly at least three months after Silent Hill 3, after hearing Claudia Wolf’s voice on the youth hotline.
Cybil Bennet was taken during an unspecified time in Silent Hill, whilst looking for the original Cheryl Mason.
Lisa Garland was taken shortly after Harry locked her in a room and abandoned her.
James Sunderland was taken shortly after entering Silent Hill, and likely didn’t make it far.
Maria was taken after her first meeting with James. The promotional art also implies this was when James was taken too.
Pyramid Head was taken after the events of Silent Hill 2, it is unknown which ending he is from since the lore is very vague simply saying “when his duty was complete.” This confirms that despite being from the same game, the James that appears in DBD isn’t the same exact one Pyramid Head encountered.
Despite being a manifestation of James’ personal guilt, Pyramid Head in DBD is specifically after Cheryl, likely being how the Entity convinced Pyramid Head to come to the realm (assuming James didn’t arrive at the same time as Cheryl.)
Pyramid Head has a tongue model, that is unused but was likely going to be part of the mori, in reference to one death in SH2 where James is strangled by the tongue.
Eggs are randomly appearing add-ons for killers in DBD, but the two egg add-ons for Pyramid Head are actually relevant as they were dropped by the two Pyramid Head’s once they killed themselves in SH2. One was rusty and the other was clean, with the common theory that the rusty one represents his old murder of Mary, whilst the clean one represents his recent murder of Eddie.
Despite technically being a different character, the Alessa Gillespie skin isn’t a legendary but is a costume, meaning it’s just Cheryl dressed like Alessa. This was likely done because of two reasons. #1 Alessa was 14, and was too young to become an actual character. #2 Cheryl and Alessa are the same person.
If the Maria art is to be taken as canon, it means that Maria hadn’t “died” at all yet, and the James in game doesn’t know the truth about Mary yet.
Maria is the only survivor without a last name.
Maria and Lisa are the only survivors that aren’t real people.
Maria and Lisa were both taken likely because of their emotional connections to James and Cheryl respectively. (Maria for obvious reasons, Lisa because Cheryl remembers her from her past life.)

kuroshitsuji music taste headcanons pt 2 because i can
part one here
https://at.tumblr.com/basementcereal/kuroshitsuji-music-taste-headcanons-because-i-can/ggbtoi6vllip
- mey rin listens to sad girl indie music and cries to it in the middle of the night. she had an emo phase in middle school and never quite got out of it. thinks “blurryface” is the name of stressed out by 21 pilots. liked mitski before it was cool
- finny just listens to the radio, but he also only listens to one station, and that station is called Sunshine Hits For Fun-Shine People. it only plays happy music because if he listened to anything else he’d break down crying
- bard will listen to any rock music. he listens to the Doom Eternal (2016) soundtrack while he works. this annoys sebastian more than the explosions, somehow. he has noise canceling headphones, for obvious reasons
- i genuinely dont think tanaka knows what music is
- soma listens to dance music. really really loud dance music. also nightcore fnaf songs (thats how ciel discovered them). also sometimes listens to Sunshine Hits for Fun-Shine People, but at extremely loud volumes as well
- agni will honestly listen to anything. his music taste is all over the place. his favorite song is some terrifying combination of folk punk and reggae. he loves making playlists for people because of this, although sometimes hes hilariously off about what they like
- lizzy listens to music that sounds really cutesy and childish but is actually about murder and death and destroying the world. basically, vocaloid. modern au lizzy is one of those hello kitty girls who wears only pink, and she has their music taste most certainly

Alright, your next question will be
*spins The Great Wheel*
What are your favourite osts from homestuck? Which of them make you feel emotions? >:]
I'm asking for scientific purposes
OMG OKAY >:D, this is going to be quite hard since there’s genuinely so many homestuck osts LOL (not listed in any order >:) )
Lilith In Starlight: everything about it…like the way it represents kanaya and roses relationship, while also having one of roxy’s ost in it to represent rose becoming more like her mother with alcoholism, the way it’s playful and fun and urghahdhshd, it’s just very well put together. i am no music expert so i’m sure someone could explain it better lol!!
ETERNITY SERVED COLD: this one is so good as well, like…when savior of the waking world starts playing URGHHH
Sburban Jungle: will always make me hyped, like they killed it with this as the loading game sound
Gold Pilot: this one is just so, pretty. like just everything about it is very nice, it’s probably one of the ones i listen to the most :)
Iron Knight: this one is just so much fun, i am a big electric guitar fan >:)
Heir of Grief: THIS ONE IS JUST SO AMAZING LIKE AIEJSJD, what did i say about guitars, but also like it makes me feel so many emotions. i love it
Pipeorgankind: it’s one of my/if not my favorite homestuck flashes. it makes you realize how *long* ago the beginning was, and how simple it was when john was just messing around in his house. but here he is now, in a doomed timeline etc etc. it’s just very good <3
Showtime (Piano Refrain): this one makes me feel sick LOL, and i love it, like it truly is haunting, i am also a sucker for pianos
Not Canon in F major, Op. 69: ONE OF THE FEW GOOD THINGS POST CANON GAVE US, this song slaps, i went through a phase where i listened to it for like five hours straight once. it’s just so much fun, someone also made a killer animatic of it
Galactic Cancer: this one is so :(((( i love it sm though, it’s so good
there are definitely way more that i love, but i feel like this is getting too long lol! so here are some honorable mentions without commentary :D:
derse dreamers, clockstopper, do the windy thing, the la2t frontiier, black, savior of the dreaming dead, and orchid horror :)
i would absolutely love to hear your favorites!! i am always looking for new ones to listen to, since the whole homestuck soundtrack can be quite daunting, lol! :D

Comfort Movie Tag!
Rules: post 10 of your favorite comfort movies and then tag 10 people or as many as you want ❤️
Thank you for the tag dear @mcbeanzontoast ❤️
It was hard at first to make a list, but here are 10 movies (they are in no particular order and I added some details about why I chose them) that help me distract from the horrors of reality 🤣
The LOTR Trilogy: (yeah, I'm doing the same of @mcbeanzontoast and counting it as one film) I love this trilogy SO MUCH. It touches my heart in so many different ways, I love the characters, the way it was filmed, the soundtrack, and how at many moments it gives me hope - this trilogy is a gem and warms my heart
Matrix: Another movie that I love, not only for the lore, the philosophy, and the journey that Neo has to go through… but also Trinity's love confession to Neo is one of my favorites.
The Lion King: This is the first movie I remember watching in my life, and it holds a special place in my heart - while I love watching it, I'll cry for Mufasa my whole life xD And it taught me the best motto ever: Hakuna Matata! 🤣
Letters to Juliet: This is my go-to movie when I want to watch a cute enemies-to-lovers story or to get emotional to see lovers that after years apart find their way to each other again - I've watched it so many times, and I love it!
The lake house: I love this movie! Not only because I loved Keanu and Sandra's chemistry but because that's the kind of story that makes me believe that love that is meant to be will be.
Ghost: Love that transcends life? How can I not love it?
Enchanted: Giselle is so sweet and innocent, I love the way she sees life, and seeing her growing and blooming during the movie and see both her and Robert finding love is a nice distraction for moments when life gets too heavy!
Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind: This is such a powerful movie for me! I think it's because it somehow shows an 'imperfect' couple, they are different, they go through struggles, their relationship is not perfect… but it's real. They care deeply about each other and even with everything that happened, they are still attracted somehow by each other, as if it was inevitable. Seeing Joel revisiting the memories and noticing the small details that made each moment special is beautiful, and at the end, the "Okay" moment, where they accept the flaws, even knowing that their relationship may be doomed. Still, they want to give it a go anyway… oh my, that gives me hope. And ever since I had that dream where Joseph Quinn was playing the role of Joel, I loved it even more.
Lilo and Stitch: I love this movie, and I love Stitch so much! It's a fun movie, and it's heartwarming!! And Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten ❤️
Put here any Christmas/holiday love movie from Netflix; such sweet distractions 🤣

I'm almost done with act 3
The only weird thing is the pacing of Lae'zel getting kidnapped like, almost immediately. I'd barely entered the city, found out one of my companions was a doppelganger, didn't long rest before Lae'zel was just gone and everyone was talking about a scene in the camp that I never saw because I didn't long rest before it happened?? And then I put off getting her back because Orin, Raphael, and Gortash seemed the most endgame so I've been doing everything else first
Beating Orin was fine but oh my godddddddddd, the Raphael fight holy shit, I thought the fight against the Shar was bad, but wow. I wiped the first time because I wasn't watching Hope's health enough and she died and I had to save her lol. I set myself up badly that first time by having Shadowheart cast spirit guardians when they were surrounded by cambions but that just killed her outright by having all that damage lash back at her lol. Also forgot to unequip the hammer from her from freeing Hope and putting her blinding weapon back on. The second time I also remembered Tav's ability to raise 6 dead so after I took out all the cambions I could just bring them back on my side, have them encircle and paralyze Raphael, and it went so much better lmao. Also I think I aggro'd Yurgir the first time accidentally because he kept going invisible and then staying in the splash zone right next to Raphael so I wouldn't see him and kept hitting with with aoe but come on, dude. Don't stay right next to him if you're invisible! He hit Gale right before I reset to try again lol
Other great act 3 things: Matt's himbo Minsc! Jaheira's family! Completing the "I can fix him" Astarion storyline by talking him out of ascending. Talking Gale out of yet another wizard hubris and not using the crown. Shadowheart getting her parents back. Couldn't believe everyone thought it was selfish that I didn't let Wyll didn't doom himself eternally in exchange for just his dad's location??? For his ETERNAL SOUL??? She wasn't even setting him free, just telling us where he was! I still haven't found him so idk how that will end up but wow. I savescummed a Gale breakup to see the Halsin romance when he initiated it. THE SOUNDTRACK.

Any second I have not been actively playing I've been listening to this song since hearing it in the rooms
And now

Raphael just fully getting his own Disney villain song. Incredible lmao. When that started up I think during the gauntlet approach to escape before he shows up?? Oh my god. I love this game so much
