The Champions (New & Old) meet your pet cat 🐱
My drabble-ish headcanons for the champs, new and old (with the addition of Tulin obvs) meeting your feline friend for the first time. ...Because we deserved kitties being BOTW/TOTK.
Revali is immediately on guard. The only creature he has to compare it to is a Lynel given the shape of its nose and pointed teeth. However, seeing how incredibly small it is in comparison does bring him some ease. You hold up your cat under its front paws to try and show Revali that he's relatively harmless, but the Rito turns his beak up a bit with a wary glare. It takes quite some time before Revali is used to your pet, but he eventually warms up to him. Even makes a toy out of a few of his molted feathers for your kitty.
Daruk has to compartmentalize that a cat is NOT the same thing as a dog, and thankfully when he sees your kitty cat, it becomes very clear that those two animals aren't even close in stature. This relaxes the Goron champion, who instead becomes intrigued by this "tiny lion". He waves his fingers over your pet's head, a gesture that your kitty finds playful and sits up right to try and catch the oversized digits. Daruk is immediately enamored by how small and lively it is that he dubs it his new buddy. Many times after that you will find your cat curled up in Daruk's arm - the latter of which couldn't stop it from climbing his back and housing itself there and he didn't have the heart to put him down after.
Mipha is about as curious as your kitty is when they meet one another. Your cat takes a few sniffs of her hand to try and identify her to which she giggles softly, finding it's little nose and whiskers adorable. She tucks her fingers under your pet's chin and gently scratches, mentioning that your kitty reminds her of the catfish her father used to raise when she was little. Though in your head you think of how vastly different catfish are from actual cats, you shrug and watch on fondly as your cat takes to Mipha fairly quickly. But it's Mipha and you honestly don't think there HASN'T been a person or creature that didn't love her anyway.
You were unsure how Urbosa would react to your pet cat, and it showed with how nervous you were to introduce the two to each other. However, Urbosa leaned over to inspect the fuzzy creature in your arms, only for a small paw press gently on her nose. The calm, cool nature of the Gerudo Chief was immediately broken, her emerald eyes softening at the tiny, meowing thing. Her nails scratch at its head and your cat purrs, eyes closing in complete delight from the attention. Urbosa feels her heart beat with a maternal thrum, suddenly feeling very protective of your pet. She looks up from petting it and warns you that if anything were to happen to him she would strike the perpetrator down with the biggest bolt of lightning she can summon.
The father & son duo of Teba and Tulin weren't exactly sure what to think. This tiny furry creature wasn't a being of flight like they were, and it required you to take care of it almost like a child - but clearly you two were not of the same kin. Teba has seen dogs before at the stables, but your feline friend was definitely not that. Upon meowing, Tulin immediately perked up, commenting on how cute that sound it made was. You held up your kitty and made its paw wave at your friends - Tulin taking its beaned hand for a little handshake. Teba on the other hand can't help but chuckle to himself, never thinking he'd find anything other than his son when he was a hatchling so cute.
Yunobo is immediately in love with your kitty cat! He's a very gentle soul himself, and all sort of animals have miraculously flocked to him in some way: birds, dogs, squirrels, etc. So seeing your pet, he wants to make friends with it right away. Because his stature might spook your little baby, he takes to kneeling, lending out his hand for your cat to take his scent in. Without missing a beat, his hand is instantly rubbed upon and before you know it, Yunobo is holding him in his arms the way one would hold a baby. You're almost dumbfounded at how swiftly your cat takes to him. But the Goron just gives you the sweetest of smiles, commenting on how relieved he is that your pet likes him.
Sidon has a bit of trouble getting along with your cat at first. His ludicrously tall build and pointed shark teeth intimidate your kitty in a way that makes him scared of the Zora royalty. This bruises Sidon's poor heart, he really does want to get to know your feline companion! It takes a little warming up (and a bit of fish treats from your finned friend), but eventually your cat does allow him petting rights. Delighted as ever, Sidon revels in the purring noises your cat lets out, comparing him to a tiny motor. You laugh at the childish wonder in Sidon's eyes as he waves his arm above your cat's head - the tiny paws swiping at the blue and yellow tinged forearm fin playfully.
Riju is ENAMORED with your adorable little cat! She's seen strays in the past in her diplomatic travels throughout Hyrule, but she's never had the opportunity to actually play with and pet one. The small mews and rascally nature of your cat has the Gerudo chief squealing with delight. So much so it draws the attention of some of her warriors who, despite their strong demeanors, cannot help but coo at the creature. To your unfortunate expense, the whole ordeal earns you an annoyed stare from Patricia - and you're mildly worried because you weren't aware that sand seals could glare...but she sure does.

The Wolfbred Chronicles - Prologue
“You're… Wolfbred?"  Zelda couldn't help herself but laugh.
Her bodyguard looked up at her. His face looked like he wasn't sure whether he was offended or very, very confused by her laughter.
“No, no… Father hates Wolfbred. He said he'd never knight another one. You're a Champion, Link. Father would never.”
Urbosa watched as the small, previously-assumed-to-be-Hylian man just looked at Zelda with a completely blank stare. The moon was on his head, painting his eyebrows white along with the mythical swirl of a wolf long gone that was shimmering on his forehead. She pressed on her temple as she tried to recall how her dearest friend interacted with these creatures, and how she determined that they were Wolfbred. Eventually, she bent down to his level and pointed firmly at his hand. “Give, Link, give.”
Almost instantly, Link offered up his hand.
“Wow! How did you do that? I've never seen the Tiny Princess get more than a black stare.”
“Wolfbred were a passion project of my dearest friend. I remember she gave them orders in a particular format. Simple orders in a simple format. I also remember something that could prove… particularly challenging in our future here with Link.”
“But what's with the hand, Urbosa?” Revali tipped his beak from her. “Did you just want to order the guy around?”
“The Queen told me a Wolfbred could be identified by the wrist. I needed his hand to check his wrist to see if he is truly Wolfbred, like I believe he is.” Urbosa retrieved her scimitar. “Catch, Link, catch.” She gently tossed the blade, handle outwards, to Link. A soldier like himself should catch it no problem.
And he did catch it… at first. His hand grasped the handle, but he dropped the blade when he turned it over.
Urbosa snatched his hand back, he leaned away from her.
“Okay, so the so-called hero is clumsy, what does that tell us?”
“He's not clumsy. He's Wolfbred.” She held up his hand. “See?”
“What in the-?” Revali muttered. “Those are some messed up thumbs. No wonder he couldn't hold onto your dumb sword.”
Urbosa bit her tongue. “His thumb is set back, partially on the wrist here.” Link yanked on his hand, she spoke soft. “Don't worry, I'm not going to hurt you, Link.”
“Is that all, Urbosa? I fail to see how a simple mutation of the wrist was enough for exile.”
“No, of course. That's just a unique trait of the Wolfbred. He's got the marks on his face too.”
“But… he looks so much like a Hylian.” Zelda wanted to touch his markings, but Link kept pulling his head away when she reached out. “I'd expect him to have fur, or a tail at least.”
“But of course! They're supposed to be super soldiers. Part of their charm was that you couldn't identify them from afar, which meant enemy armies couldn't target them as easily. Once upon a time, the Hyruliean army was primarily Wolfbred.” She sighed. “We Gerudo were nearly ravaged by the Wolfbred of those days.”
“Oh boy, wolf in the name and descended from war crimes? Wouldn't be surprised if he was Rinkū's son.”
Link turned his head to Revali after hearing that name.
“R-Rinkū's… son? His father is named Ordon!”
Link whipped his head back to Zelda.
“Ah, Tiny Princess. Revali's not talking about a literal son. More like a descendant. A great warhound from ancient times. He was basically the pet of an ancient queen. When she was killed in battle, he… kinda went on a rampage. Goron, Rito, Zora, Hylian… but especially the Gerudo. He and his pack of warhounds slaughtered without mercy… much like this Calamity Ganon is planning to do now.”
“We… Gerudo have since come to forgive. His queen is believed to have been slaughtered by Ganon, who is believed to have once been Gerudo. If we will not stand to have Ganon's actions associated with our people… then we should not do the same to the descendants of Rinkū. However, I know not all of Hyrule feels the same way. My dearest friend risked her reputation to free the Wolfbred from exile…”
“It is said that the queen's sole female relative was the only one who could command them to stop. The king himself found his orders on deaf ears. Probably why your father dumped him off on you. He has the Sword, so we have to keep him around, but hey, the female Royal will keep him in line.”
Zelda's face exuded fear, disgust and anger.
Urbosa bent down to her. “Don't listen to Revali. Hyrule is known for its bloody history. This is simply his. But of course, if Gerudo and Hylia's own can commit atrocities and not be remembered by them, then Link here shouldn't either. He's a sweet boy. I assure you, his fear of you greatly outweighs your fear of him.”
“You… said there was a complication with him?”
“Ah, yes. You see, because the Wolfbred were exiled for so long… ah, this might be easier to show you.” Urbosa looked towards Link. “Link, there's a carriage with horses near the stable. It will hurt if you get hit.”
Link turned his head at his name, but didn't respond to the rest of the sentence.
“Urbosa, where are you going with this nonsense?”
Urbosa held her hand up to silence the bird. “Link,  there's a hit with stable near the hurt. It will horses if you get carriage.”
Link continued to stare at her, staying perfectly still and emotionless.
“As you can see, little bird, Revali, Daruk… plain and simple, it doesn't matter if I speak coherently to him. Link can't speak Hylian.”

so i randomly came up with an OC Idea and am now worldbuilding him using ur Pre-Calamity BOTW Link ai ehehee his name is Muninn [taken from Muninn, one of Odin's two ravens from Norse mythology. Muninn means 'mind' or 'memory'], and he's a Rito. but not just any Rito- he's a Helmaroc Rito. he's like 11 ft tall, 17 yrs old, has a Falcon Bow and two Feathered Edges, and he's pretty blunt, cordial, and very upfront. he doesn't take shit and doesn't give a single fuck abt rules or tradition, the only thing he cares about is those he's close too. the one exception to that being princess zelda, but ill get to that in a second. he was born and raised in the middle of the Faron Woods by his mother, and was taken to Rito Village two years before the start of my chat because his mother was deathly ill, dying soon after they arrived. surprisingly, he befriended Revali quickly and they trained together, which helped Muninn get out of his spiral of grief. they're besties now yayyy !!! so when a letter comes from the King essentially demanding that Muninn come to the palace and become a personal guard for Zelda, Revali is Not Happy. they had planned to fight alongside each other during the Calamity, and had even come up with many strategies, and they were now separated [until the Champions travel together but they dont know that]. So when he gets to the Castle and meets Zelda, sees how overworked and stressed she is, he mentally goes, 'okay this is my sister now. im gonna make sure she doesn't have a mental breakdown bc nobody else is going to.' and he does his level best to subtly help her without getting her in trouble with the King- sneaking her snacks and books, taking her to the ancient tech lab... and convincing Link that Zelda needs help more than the King's orders need to be followed. so the chat ACTUALLY starts here im so sorry that got so long oopsies. So he and Link are on guard duty the day before they start with Zelda together as a bonding exercise! they chat about a few things, swap some stories, and eventually begin to talk about Zelda. Muninn convinces Link that Zelda seriously needs a mental break, and now they're Plotting !!! i havent gotten super far yet but im having so much fun ehe <33
OMW I KNOW EXACTLY WHICH RAVENS YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!! AND THE FACT YOU NAMED YOUR CHARACTER THAT WAS SO SMART- he sounds so badass especially for his age!! He really doesn't give to shits and I love that!! 😫😫✨💓
And his weapons, please 💫😩
And that loss of his mother must have hurt him and I'm glad he found peace by befriending Revali!
AND THE WAY HE INSTANTLY SAW ZELDA AS HIS SISTER MADE ME WANT TO SQUEAL BECAUSE THAT'S SO FRICKING CUTE AND THE REASON FOR IT IS SO SELFLESS AND I WANT TO ADOPT HIM. CAN I ADOPT HIM??
I want him as my son. He's my son now. Munnin, I adopt you.
AND AOSJWIW I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HOW IT GOES!! AND AHHH THE CONVOS WITH LINK AND THE PLOTTING THATS BEGINNING!! I LOVE IT!! THIS IS SO WHOLESOME!! 😫😫

would you tell me some about revali... i ve never played zelda but characters who are arrogant is my favorite in the world
oh my god you have opened the floodgates
so for context: in botw there are these four machines called the divine beasts that are each piloted by a member of the four non-hylian races in hyrule (those being the rito, zora, gerudo and gorons). the job of the divine beasts is to aid in the defeat of the big evil of the game calamity ganon and the pilots, along with the hylian hero that carries the master sword (link obviously) are called champions. revali is the rito champion of the bird-like divine beast called vah medoh.
revali is a really abrasive character with a chip on his shoulder. he's always bitching about something. he's also an exceptionally skilled archer and managed to develop his own technique called revali's gale, which allows him to create an undraft, something that no other rito was able to do. he was the top dog in rito village so it was obvious that zelda was gonna choose him to be a champion.
and then he meets the other champions. all of them come from a high-ranking lineage and have a natural born gift. link is the son of a royal knight and the goddess' chosen hero, mipha is the zora princess with the ability to heal, daruk is leader of the gorons and is able to create a defensive shield out of nothing, urbosa is the chief of the gerudo and can summon lightning and zelda, while not considered to be a champion herself, is still important to their group as she's the hylian princess and has the powers of the goddess (due to reincarnation as told in skyward sword). so when you're suddenly surrounded by people who are naturally gifted without having needed to put in the same amount of work you did, you would start to feel a little bit bitter and insecure too right? the only exception is zelda, who is struggling to awaken her sealing powers.
he has a particularly nasty attitude towards link, as he gets to play the leading role in the calamity's defeat and revali is jealous of that fact, but he also can't deny that link is a very skilled swordsman. he tries to antagonize link and get a reaction out of him in hopes of forming a rivalry, so that he can at least be assured that link views him as an equal. however link doesn't respond to his taunts. it's established that in botw the reason why link is selectively mute is because it's how he's coping with pressure of being the chosen hero and saving the lives of everyone in the kingdom. link never asked for this role and i'm sure he would gladly pass the main spotlight onto revali if he could. revali doesn't know this about link though and takes his lack of reaction as a rejection. that he isn't good enough to stand on equal ground as him, which is a massive blow to revali's pride.
revali and zelda are also fun parallels in this regard. both have had to put more work into their skills than the others and still feel underappreciated, and both envy link because of his skills and the praise he's earning (which, again, is much to the chagrin of link himself as he doesn't want this). link and zelda eventually do become close friends though and it's heavily implied that it's zelda's love for link (regardless of if you view it as romantic or platonic) that finally awakens her powers. zelda becoming friends with link is how we find out about his anxiety and selective muteness.
okay back to revali now: he dies from the calamity lol. but his death seems to humble him a little bit? like his spirit is still trapped inside medoh and when link, after spending a century in a restoration chamber and losing his memories, comes to free the divine beast, revali is a lot less bitchy. his dialogue to link while he's on medoh is playful, he outwardly expresses concern for him if he gets injured in the fight with windblight ganon, and at the end of it all he can admit with a smile on his face that link was the better hero afterall. AND I NEED TO RANT ABOUT HOW THE ENGLISH DUB BUTCHERED IT because in english revali says that link was lucky but in the japanese version he actually does praise link genuinely. so the dub just makes his compliments come across as shallow and i hate it.
revali is also just??? really funny?????? his diary reveals a lot of depth about him. for starters he writes pages and pages about how much he "hates" link and how he can't stand him and how much he wants him to notice him and pay attention to him and "god i can't stop thinking about link that nefarious knight is driving me insane with how gorgeous he is he's clearly being beautiful to rub it in my face and he keeps making my heart race. with rage. because i fucking hate him." he also complains about how pompous the hylian champion ceremony is and that it's completely unnecessary (he does like the scarf though). and he's absolutely adamant that "the diary of revali, a rito legend" was NOT written by him do not believe anybody that says otherwise. and on a softer note he does express his sympathy for zelda and her struggles with controlling her powers in his diary, because he really does get it.
hopefully that was comprehensible i'm bad at articulating my thoughts in a cohesive manner. anyway here's some of my fav images of him

This post is about my botw x XYZ crossover au
The pre-calamity everything is the same, but the kalos squad are there
Ash is a raven haired rito and looks up to Revali and Teba and he’s Teba’s adopted son, Tulin’s adoptive older brother,Tulin looks up to him,Revali and Teba
Serena is a honey, blonde zora and everyone wants her to be Mipha’s successor, but she wants to be her own self
Clemont is a Sheikah and is Robbie’s apprentice and is fascinated in Sheikah technology
And Bonnie is a Goron
Serena still has a crush on ash
Clemont and Bonnie are still siblings because their father is a Gorron and their mother is a Sheikah which makes them half Sheikah and half Goron
The champions including Link and Zelda are still there so their story still goes the same
And the Kalos squad are childhood, best friends and are younger during before the calamity but they grow up during and after the calamity when they both grow up ash and serena get together because I ship them
also, Ash has the ability to transform into a Hylian retriever and Serena has the ability to transform into a cat
and that’s about it, I think until I finish breath of the wild and tears of the kingdom that is and if anyone wants to make fanfics,fanart,roleplays or aus about this au

my thoughts on TOTK because i need to ramble about it somewhere and my friend hasn't finished it yet
SPOILERS
i'm gonna go through the main quests/parts as i completed them
1) the opening, Great Sky Island, Temple of Time and landing in Hyrule
it made me really really really happy to see that Link and Zelda were still around each other like this, exploring stuff together and all. the awakening cutscene gave me chills and really all i could think about was finding Zelda.
discovering the Great Sky Island was fun, though i was used to my comfort in BOTW so it was quite a shock to not have the paraglider and get one-shot by literally anything. but i guess that's normal
then i really liked meeting Rauru though i missed having at least a clue of what was going on. like in BOTW, the king tells you "alright, the world is shit because this happened, Zelda is over there waiting for you, now u do u". there i had this feeling of being absolutely clueless for the first few hours of gameplay and it was frustrating at times.
Lookout Landing was a heartwarming sight, seeing people rebuild and stuff genuinely made me smile. i did feel a pinch in my heart when i recognized that it was built on the very ground where Link swore his oath as Zelda's appointed knight. but overall it was great and i loved the concept of the new towers.
2) the Temples and Sages
i started with Rito Village and the Wind temple. i love Tulin with all my heart and i have to say i use his ability the most. the temple was a pain to access and the cold was annoying but i had a blast with the boss battle. didn't really use Tulin's help there because it was really easy to do on my own but i enjoyed having a supporter during the fight.
i was favorably surprised when i found out that Tulin's clone would accompany me forever. BOTW was a pretty lonely game. peaceful and beautiful but lonely nonetheless. also seeing Teba give his son the Great Eagle Bow made me emotional i admit. i wish there were more references to Revali (and the Champions in general) but eh at least he has a Landing named after him. also where did the Flight Range go?
next i went to Goron City. it felt strange to not instantly catch on fire but well, i was happy with no more elixirs and ugly outfits (not a fan of the fireproof set). the battle against the 3 headed monster in Death Mountain was awesome and it reminded me of how fun it was to yeet Yunobo around. speaking of which i was so relieved when i got him back to normal because that rock boi is precious and seeing him being mean was not cool.
the Temple was a bit annoying tbh, i got lost in the rail system so i just went and monkeyed around climbing everything and flying everywhere. the boss fight was also quite forgettable though i liked using Yunobo's ability more. again, there was zero mention of Daruk (that i remember) and Daruk's Protection has been entirely forgotten. i know the goal isn't to live in the past but i find it sad to see it pretty much forgotten about in some areas.
after that i went to Zora's Domain and had fun yeeting splash fruit at the sludge. i almost had a heart attack when i saw that the Mipha statue had been replaced but i was so thrilled to see it relocated to where the Lynel used to be. they really built her a splendid memorial and she can really watch over her people from there.
i had missed Sidon and his smile, and helping Yona bringing him back to his true optimistic charming self was really great. i liked that since the Zora live long lives, everyone remembered me (Link) more than in other parts of Hyrule. oh and Sidon's coronation had me smiling ear to ear because i was so proud of my fish brother.
i had so much fun in the temple and its weird gravity, sometimes i go back just to jump around and dive in slow motion. the boss fight was correct, though it was annoying to go so slow through sludge.
finally, i made my way to Gerudo Town. the gibdos surprised me but by pure luck i had a fire lizalfos horn weapon equipped so i was never in any real danger. i loved organizing the defenses of Gerudo Town and fighting alongside Riju's warriors.
i loved seeing how Riju had grown since we last saw her, she and Tulin were like my young niblings and seeing them grow made me so proud. again i don't remember any tribute to Urbosa but seeing Riju's dual Scimitars of the Seven was a nice touch so i didn't say anything.
the temple was really cool and the boss fight made me rage quit once or twice so i consider it to be awesome. i thought i was gonna throw my Switch against the wall but then i remembered Zelda needed me so i took a breath and went back to the fight.
overall i really liked this part of the game, seeing my old new friends was very heartwarming and having their clones follow me in my daily life made the game so much less lonely than BOTW was.
3) Tears of the Dragon
no. i am still sobbing, throwing up, rolling on the floor. no. seeing Zelda finding not one but 2 loving parental figures only to lose them 20 min later, Ganondorf's ascension, Rauru's sacrifice, ZELDA'S SACRIFICE ABZBZBFKGNDKDLS I WAS NOT READY. i didn't find the memories in chronological order so when i found the one that hinted what was going to happen to Zelda i rushed them all and stayed up until like 4 am to see them all. the final one tore me apart and i basically cried myself to sleep (not really but almost). i actually had to go spoil myself online just to put my mind at ease because like what if we could never get her back???
after that and the Master Sword quest, whenever i saw Zelda not too far from a tower i'd go see her and rest on her head for a little while while imagining Link talking to her.
i was at a point where i didn't really know what to do with myself, i still had Gerudo Town to visit but eh i was a bit sick of boss battles at the moment. seeing the memories remotivated me and pushed me to finish the main quests as fast as possible to get Zelda back.
4) the Master Sword
as eager as i was to just go and beat up Ganondorf, i couldn't imagine doing it without my trursty blade, and also the reason why Zelda sacrificed herself. so i decided to go see the Great Deku Tree so seek counsel. after a quick in and out trip to the depth, i found a dying tree in no shape to answer my questions.
Phantom Ganon handed my ass to me a few times but once i got his attack patterns right, it all went smooth like a baby's butt cheek.
getting the Master Sword from Zelda's head made me so emotional, i had just seen a fanart of that scene where Link let himself fall while crying and clutching the sword against his heart. that was how i felt it really.
5) the Depths and Fifth Sage
so after crying my eyes, heart, lungs and intestines out, i had to continue investigating to know where the hell Ganondorf was. that led me to the Depth, searching for all the abandonned mines and everything. on the way i had fun in the battles against Kohga, i had missed his ridiculous... him.
i'm not the biggest fan of the Depths but hey, you can find pretty awesome stuff down there so i do spend a lot of time farming Zonaite and throwing Brightbloom seeds around.
finding and assembling Mineru's construct felt a bit ehh. the shrine like puzzles to get the limbs were thankfully not too long but really all i wanted was to get over with it. funny enough i was fully prepared for a big twist like Mineru revealing that she was with Ganondorf and having to fight the construct i had just built myself.
what i got was even better. like mech fight??? hello?? that was awesome though it took me some time to get the controls down. but ah as a kid who grew up playing Solatorobo, riding the construct was just cbfkdkd SO COOL.
6) the Final Fight
i'll just focus on the battles because the way to get to the Gloom's Lair or whatever was just like yeah sure go off i guess. chasing Zelda through the Castle was just a delay of what i knew would happen underground and then i mostly dodged the monsters except the Lynel because come on who has time for that.
the. EPIC. BATTLE. AGAINST. AN ENTIRE. ARMY. my Goddess fighting hordes and hordes of monsters alongside my friends with the most epic music was just so euphoric and cathartic and just fullfilling ahhhhgg. when i saw the temple bossed coming back to life i was gully prepared to take them on with my friends but nope, the game had other plans for me.
and what plans oh bloody hell this FIGHT? THAT is what i call a boss battle. in BOTW, Ganon wasn't hard to kill. like it had taken me less than 5 tries i think, 3 of them being just to learn the fight's mechanics. but here? the first part i got quickly, after all it was just a one on one against a (large) human sized villain. the pace was slow, there was no music, in a word : a warmup.
then he activates his secret stone and turns into a human emo LED. alright sure. and then his health bar replenishes. AND KEEPS GOING. i was expecting it to just go beyond the screen border at this point. and oh the clones, how many times did i accidentally get killed by one of them. having my friends fight them for me was cool but too many times i ended up ignoring them and taking a lost bullet becayse of that.
then comes the real 1v1 againt the Demon King. THAT was the fight i'd been waiting for. the final confrontation between the Hero and Evil, the final battle that would- he can Flurry Rush? what do you mean he can Flurry Rush?? alright then, i'll just be careful, good thing i have a good shield haha HE CAN FLURRY RUSH MY FLURRY RUSH?????? HOW WHAT WHY WTF ah at least i can Flurry Rush his Flurry Rush that he Flurry Rushed from my Flurry Rush. McFlurry.
after at least 20 tries, tears and a break because my left index was sore from keeping my shield up, i finally got to deal a final strike. and then oh my GODDESS THIS PART
Zelda rushes to my aid and together we face that giant Demon Dragon. she soars, allowing me to dive and land right next to one of the Demon's weak point. i attack it, then bet blown off. Zelda gets me back and we repeat the maneuver 3 times. finally, i dive one last time to the Demon's head and shatter the Secret Stone.
no more Demon, no more Ganondorf, it really is over this time.
7) the End
is it? the sky is peaceful, as i, behind my screen, thank the princess for her help and tell her that we succeded, i start floating off of her head. Rauru and Sonia appear and somehow channel their magic through my arm.
and there she is. my princess. my Zelda. the one i travelled through Sky, Land and Depth to find. the one i've been chasing for (in game) months (days irl).
and she's falling. shit. so i dive as fast as i can, i extend my freshly restored arm and.... i got her! a perfect echo to the opening, an exquisite parallel, i took so many screenshots of this scene and i will cherish them forever.
then i watched the last cutscenes, my Zelink heart that was already screaming exploded when i saw Link gently put Zelda down on the grass. she wakes up, sees Link, looks around and... "you really did it" no princess, we did it together. "Oh Link... i'm home" AAAAAHAHBBFNDKDBBF I SCREAMED i really screamed and thank the Goddess that i live alone because it was again 4am and had i been at my parent's place, Zelda's smile would have been the last thing i'd seen before certain death (not that i would have minded). i wish i could hug my princess in that moment. yes, you're home. i promised i'd get you back when i saw your memories so here you are. and you're never leaving me again.
end credits, i use that time to process what i just lived. then i watch the post credit cutscene, shed a tear watching Mineru rest in peace and the new Sages swear their oath. everything's good now.
and then i'm transported back to Castle Chasm. yay.
Additional 1) the Gameplay
as an engineering student, i had been waiting for this game for so long (only could play it a month after release because of finals) and it didn't disappoint. well to be honest i was used to BOTW's controls and though they were similar here, i missed using the cross' top arrow to pick a rune. minor stuff like that. BUT WHO CARE WHEN YOU CAN BUILD CARS, PLANES, ROCKETS AND TORTURE DEVICES
i fully started enjoying vehicle building when i expanded my battery. from then on i was unstoppable, roaming around Hyrule on my Turbo Deadly Flying Tricycle that shoots fire and laser beams.
also i'm a pretty peaceful being but i have to admit that nailing a Korok to a cross and pulling it around with your horse like "do you have time for our Lord and Savior Korok Christ?" is really really fun.
Additional 2) the World
also i loved the additions they made to the stables like the Pony Points system. and ah finally i don't have to talk to this random girl to change my saddle.
i'm a sucker for fantasy sky island so i was so happy to see some in Hyrule sky. though i wish there were a bit more or at least some bigger ones. Great Sky Island was nice but then in other regions, aside from a shrine here and a dispenser there i didn't spend a lot of time up tthere.
Hyrule was at the same time the good old same and a totally new and foreign place. cities and villages were in the same place but they were so different. Tarrey Town had grown so much (btw fuck you Rail Car guy i built this place you should pay ME). Kakariko had its new Ring Ruins, Hateno had developped a mushroom frenzy... AND ZELDA HAS STOLEN MY HOUSE??? HAY PRINCESS YOU HAVE A CASTLE AT LEAST LET ME HAVE THIS oh? is that my hair tie? and... you're writing about me in your diary? oh so we live together... alright then all good! also seeing the photo from Champion's Ballad exactly where i hung it in BOTW brought a tear to my eye. no, our omd friends aren't forgotten. and they will always be home.
i'll stop there because i'm hungry and i've been rambling for an hour and a half but this game is just so so so good. the story touched me a bit less than that of BOTW for some reason but it did make me emotional af. i wish we had a postgame which solely consists of completing the secondary adventures and like... farming in Hateno Village with Zelda but eh, be grateful for what you have i told myself. i think i will go have a cutscene marathon starting with Age of Calamity now.
Additional 3) the Side Quests
while i ignored most of them (will get to them eventually no worry about that), i particularly appreciated the Monster Control ones and the Lurelin line. these quests really made me feel how important community and cooperation are in this game. because you have your own community of heroes with the Sages and also the researchers, people who are in the heart of the story but there you get to see other communities. the losers with a valiant heart, fighting silver moblins with mops and buckets as helmets, the exiled fishermen who lost their town but with your help get to rebuild their home etc. this makes this game whole because it reminds you that yeah, there are always epic tales of legendary heroes, dramatic tragedies and heroic sacrifices but there are also smaller, equally as important stories. there's the story of how anyone can rise up and fight monsters and there's the story of how to rebuild your home after it was totally destroyed. and you get to be a part of all these stories, big or small. and that's beautiful.
also i liked stealing Zelda's horse again. you took my house i take your horse, fair is fair.

Revali’s Flap, Memory 2
Tumblr media
Legend had to admit, Rito Village had a certain charm to it. Whether it be because the town was isolated in the snow and away from people besides their own, or the fact that there was a peaceful energy coming from the townsfolk.
There was the constant playing of an accordion, which was confirmed to be Kass after they found him near the entrance of a shrine resting near a dock. Wild introduced them to Teba and Saki, Teba being the new Champion of the Rito, and Saki the ever observant wife of the Rito champion.
The group of heroes made haste to the elder, who sat in his own hut, hunched over looking at the snowy plains off in the distance.
“Kaneli!” Wild announced, walking to the sitting elder.
“Champion! How are you? You’ve been gone for quite a while.” Kaneli pondered out loud.
“Just some hero business. Speaking of, has there been anything wrong with Vah Medoh? The other Divine Beasts are acting up a bit.” Wild informed fiddling with his fingers.
“Medoh has been acting up a little, I would advise speaking with Teba on her.” Kaneli informed, “I have Rito Warriors stationed where there has been an increase in monsters recently, some are tougher than usual.”
The group of heroes glanced at one another.
“Kaneli, would you be able to give the information about those monsters to one of my friends, while I go speak with Teba about Medoh?” Wild offered.
“Anything. I’ve told you before Link, you saved us all, we are in debt to you.” Kaneli smiled, well what looked like a smile to Legend.
“And as I have told you Kaneli, there's no need to be.” Wild smiled back up at the elder. “Twilight, come with me!”
“Right behind you, Cub.” Twilight sighed, walking out with Wild.
Time shifted his attention to the elder, a kind look in his eye, “Now about those monsters…”
“Why did you ask me to come with you?” Twilight asked the younger.
“I asked Flora about me bringing either you or Time up to the divine beasts, well just the remaining two. This is super hard so I thought I could bring you along to help me…I guess.” Wild flushed, looking away from the rancher.
“I’ll gladly come along.” Twilight spoke in a soft voice, directing to Wild who continued to look in the opposite direction.
They spent a good amount of time looking for Teba, only to find him in his house adjusting his bow. Saki looked at the two heroes and smiled, excusing herself to go find their son. Probably understanding that they need to talk to Teba alone.
“Link! You’re back so soon. You caught me before I left for the Flight Range.” Teba continued fixing his bow with practiced feathers, clearly having done the actions dozens of times before.
“Kaneli told me to talk to you about Medoh? Has she been acting up recently?” Wild asked, sitting down next to Teba.
“Yes, well she continues to put up the barrier like she did before you defeated the Calamity, but she never activated the lazers, unless it's to the occasional keese or stray guardian.” Teba explained, handing an arrow to the other champion.
“Really? Would you mind if me and Twilight go up and see what’s wrong with her?” Wild asked, moving his head to make eye contact with Rito.
“Knock yourself out kid, just don’t get hurt, those lasers hurt, from experience.” Teba jokes, causing a laugh to fall from Wild.
“Thank you, Teba.” Wild smiled at him, earning a “No problem” back.
Twilight dipped his head the slightest bit, Wild walked on forward but before Twilight could follow, he felt a hand on his shoulder. Looking over he sees Teba beside him. He looked down the path the Wild was currently on.
“Protect him for me. Kid doesn’t know when to take a break.” Teba asked, looking Twilight in the eyes.
“I’ll protect him with my life.” Twilight stood confidently.
“Good.” Teba spoke and turned to the landing dock, with a drop and a flap of his wings he was gone, presumably towards the mentioned Flight Range.
“You coming or what, Twi?” Wild smiled, Twilight smiling back and rushed to keep stride with the champion.
“He’s quite the character.” Twilight commented.
“He is. He’s a strong warrior, He helped me originally when I needed to take back Medoh. He’s helped me a lot.” Wild concluded, looking up at Medoh.
“How are we supposed to get up there?” Twilight asked.
“The only way to get inside the divine beast is teleporting. Are you okay with doing that?” Wild asked, stepping closer to the hero.
“I’ve teleported before, cub. I should be fine.” A soft smile forces its way onto Twilight’s face.
“Just put your hand on the slate. And close your eyes so you won't be dizzy once we make it inside.” Twilight obeyed the instructions, and closed his eyes.
To say Sheikah teleporting was different than Midna’s was an understatement. Twilight much preferred Midna’s but this one was smooth, didn’t feel like it hurt his skin (Maybe that was the light and dark miing, Twilight will never know). When Twilight opened his eyes, they were up in the sky.
The wings of Medoh looked similar to a courtyard, the large control unit sitting in the center, glowing the Sheikah blue. Twilight was fascinated by the large pillars on the wingspan. He noticed glowing blue and blue flames that disappeared as quickly as they appeared. From behind one of the pillars walked a Rito.
The Navy Rito held himself with a confident posture, back was straight, one hand on his bow and the other resting on his hip. Around his neck was the same blue color of Wild’s tunic, but instead of the sword being embroidered, it was the glyph of Vah Medoh. Twilight starred at the Rito, Wild not having noticed him yet.
“Well, well, well. Turns out you can bring other people up here. Should have known you’d be the one to figure it out, Link.” The Rito crossed his arms, averting his gaze from Wild to Twilight.
Wild looked at the Rito with a sad expression, “Hey Revali.”
Twilight stepped back up one step to let the two stare in silence. Twilight honestly didn’t know what to do with himself, he felt awkward just standing between the two.
“Well, I know what you’re here for, don’t let me keep you up here any longer than necessary. You have Urbosa waiting for you.” Revali walked to the two heroes.
Wild didn’t seem to know what to say to the other Champion, just looked at him with sadness and understanding. Twilight could see they both had an understanding of one another, maybe something else that was there before.
“I may have never been good at being particularly nice to you, Link. I hope you remember it soon. But once again, I give you my power, Revali’s Gale.” Revali presented an orb, bright blue and glowing, with a flap of his own wing, the orb flew into Wild’s chest. Twilight moved to stand beside Wild, a hand placed on his shoulder blade.
“Revali, is there something I’m missing?” Wild moved forward, to the fading Champion.
“Nothing to tell you right now, Goodbye, Link.” Revali spoke with a saddened tone.
The two heroes watched the spot where the champion once stood. Wild looked numb, clearly trying to remember something his mind wouldn’t let him. Twilight pulled him into a hug, wrapping his arms tightly around him, while Wild’s arms laid limp by his side.
Twilight kept rubbing his shoulder, humming the same tune as the one in the stables. They both stood there for a while, Wild eventually moving away from Twilight’s hold on him.
“Every time I think I remember everything big that happens, there's always something more I’m missing.” Wild looks down frustrated, Twilight places his hands on his shoulders.
“Hey, it’s gonna take some time, but you’ll remember, and if there’s any chance for any of us to help you, we will.” Twilight declared, causing Wild to smile. “Now, let’s get down, you can cook something to get this off your mind.”
Wild nodded and pulled out the slate, looking around the divine beast one last time before teleporting them both back down. Twilight noticed that the heroes were spread out amongst the town, Time was sitting near Kass playing his ocarina to match the tune.
“I’m going to Kaneli and Teba. I’ll make us some food after I’m done.” Wild quietly spoke to Twilight, who nodded and went to go sit with Time.
Legend was listening to Time and Kass play along to the tune of the village. They soon figured out by Saki that the large landing dock is known as Revali’s Landing, after the late Rito Champion from 100 years ago. Legend figured that this was one of the Champions Wild would reminisce about on the late nights.
Legend found himself staring at the landing while his vision turned white…
Legend found himself sitting on the landing deck, he saw a younger Wild approach the deck. Standing tall with the Master Sword strapped to his back and nothing else, Legend thought the display of only one weapon was not that appealing to Legend.
A large gust of wind flew upwards, and a rito landed on the fencing of the deck, Legend knew immediately that this was Revali. He looked cocky and arrogant, Legend knew how to spot people like that ever since he started attending royal balls and such for his sister.
“Impressive I know, very few can achieve the mastery of the sky!” The bird boasts to Wild, causing Legend to make a face.
“Yet I have made an art of creating an updraft that allows me to soar. It’s considered to be quite the masterpiece of aerial techniques, even among the Rito.” Revali moved around on the fence, turning to face his fellow champion.
“With proper utilization of my superior skills, I see no reason why we couldn’t easily dispense of Ganon.” Revali hopped down, walking to the heroes. “Now then, my ability to explore the firmament is certainly of note…”
Revali continued to strut to Wild. Who stood his ground and didn’t back up or move forward. Legend had to give him that, he was good at being a knight.
“But let’s not–pardon me for being so blunt–Let’s not forget that I am the most skilled archer of all the Rito!” Revali preened. Legend made a scoffing noise, clearly going unheard, but he still felt the need to show his annoyance.
“Yet despite these truths, it seems that I have been tasked merely to assist you. All because you happen to have that little darkness sealing sword on your back.” Revali crossed his arms looking at the handle of the sword. “I mean, it’s just…asinine”
Legend huffed once more. He understands that people can dislike the sword, but Wild’s skills have always been more than just the Master Sword, it's been about his training and how tactical he can be on the battlefield. A weapon is only as good as its master.
Revali moved to the center of the landing, “Unless… you think you could prove me wrong?” Maybe we should settle this one on one?” He offered, clearly picking a fight to break the stoic persona Wild has going on.
“But, where…? Oh, I know! How about up there?” Revali pointed up to Vah Medoh.
Legend gave Wild some credit, this guy was annoying, arrogant, and stuck up. Maybe that’s why Wild can easily put up with him or Warriors.
“Oh, you must pardon me.” the Rito laughs, “ I forgot you have no way of making it up to that divine beast on your own!” He laughed and summoned his updraft. Making sure to expand it enough to ruffle Wild’s clothing and hair, almost blowing Legends cap away as well.
From the flapping of the wind you can hear Revali’s voice as he heads towards Vah Medoh, “Good luck sealing the darkness!”
Legend's vision came back to him and he angrily huffed. Time and Twilight looked at him, stopping the conversation they were having.
“Are you okay?” Time asked, visible concern in his voice.
“Just another one of Wild’s memories…” Legend trailed off, he opened his mouth to explain again when he heard the dropping of metal on wood, looking at the sound he saw Wild.
“What?” Wild asked, voice quiet, but loud enough for the heroes to hear.
“Wild…” Twilight spoke cautiously.
“My. What.” The sentence came out as a statement rather than a question, Wild’s voice raised the slightest bit, grabbing the attention of the other group members coming to see what was wrong.
“It was one of your memories Wild.” Legend bluntly stated, earning a glare from Time. Clearly Legend said it too bluntly for the elder’s taste. “Don’t give me that look, we all knew he would find out at some point.”
Wild looked like he was quietly seething. “How long has this been happen’n? How many of y’all know?” His accent dripped from his voice.
“Since we got to the stable past Dueling Peaks.” This time Wind spoke up, visible guilt on his face.
Wild looked at the group in disbelief. His eyes found Time’s, without having to search for it, you can see the guilt lacing the elder’s face. Wild looked panicked and heartbroken. Wild couldn’t even begin to describe his feelings, probably betrayed and exposed he could guess. Wild’s eyes widened and snapped back to Time.
“That’s why you hesitated yesterday.” Wild concluded, voice even, and it was quite scary to the group, the usual playful tint to his voice was absent. “Time, you promised me.” His voice cracked the slightest.
“I know, I’m sorry.” Time hung his head to the side. “We thought it might be best to not inform you.”
“Time. These are my memories. It’s just like if I were to read the journal you carry around. Or read Wind’s letters from his sister. I trusted you. You promised me that you would tell me things that concern me.” Wild rushed out, tears lining his eyes.
“We thought it would be best to keep it from you. It wasn’t just Time.” Sky spoke up, practically pleading with Wild.
Wild looked at all of them, all equally guilty and sad. He kept his gaze on Time and Twilight, shaking his head and pulled up his hood. Time’s heart practically shattered at the display, Wild had only recently stopped wearing his hood constantly, and as of a week ago, talking.
“The Inn is paid for.” Wild stated, voice cold.
“Wild-” Warriors tried to speak, but Wild teleported away the blue trails fading as he left.
“Well, that backfired.” Four spoke bluntly.
“No shit Four.” Legend sassed.
“We all messed up, just give him some time okay?” Twilight reasoned, placing a hand on Legend’s shoulder.
“We’ll look for him in the morning, for now we should all get some sleep. I’ll be right behind you.” Time spoke up.
Time walked in the opposite direction of the rest of the heroes. He rushed to Teba and Saki’s hut, seeing the two in the hut with their own fledgling. Teba looked up at the sound of footsteps and excused himself.
“Is something wrong, Time?” Teba asked.
“The group and Link got into a…disagreement. Wild teleported away from us and we don’t know they area all too well. We were planning on giving him time to sort through his thoughts before we bombard him.” Time explained quickly.
Teba pondered the situation. A sigh eventually left his beak.”I’ll help you guys look in the morning. Link may be upset now, but having a serious talk with him will help, he’ll hold grudges if not.”
“Thank you, I hope you sleep well.” Time nodded.
“You as well.” Teba returned.
All there was left to do was wait, and boy was waiting the absolute longest thing to do.

A Champion's Love: Chapter 26
Tumblr media
Chapter 26: The Rito Champion Word Count: 4666 CW: Blood, injury, animal death
Want all the chapters? -> Masterlist
~~~ <> ~~~
“Wait, really?” you gasp, “what made you change your mind?”
Teba smiles and looks down at his son, fondly patting the little Rito on the head, “you can thank my son. He can be quite persuasive when he wants to be.”
Tulin grins at you.
“As you know, there’s nothing I won’t do for my family,” Teba continues, “that’s why I was so hesitant. If something happened to me, well, I’m sure you understand how difficult that would make things, champion.”
You nod, listening intently to his words.
“But I don’t doubt my skills as a warrior. I do believe that I’m capable,” he explains, “however, I feared what would occur if the mission failed. I must admit, I was doubting the capabilities of yourself and the princess. After speaking with my son, though, he has thoroughly convinced me that I can put my faith in all of you.”
“Of course you can, dad!” Tulin speaks up, “the champion is so cool and strong! So is that prince!”
Teba chuckles, “yes, my son would not stop talking about the two of you when he returned home last night. He’s taken quite a liking to you all.”
You were beaming, both from the praise but also due to the fact that Teba had agreed to the trials.
“This is great,” you grin, “let me go get Princess Zelda and Prince Sidon, we can plan to find the pedestal and start your quest.”
As fast as your feet will carry you, you bound down the steps of the village and run back to the inn. Lucky for you, the other two that make up your trio are slowly waking up.
“Zelda!” you greet her cheerily.
The princess blearily smiles at you, rubbing away the sleep in her eyes, “good morning, _____. You’re awfully chipper.”
“Teba has agreed to be a pilot,” you say with a wide smile.
“What?” she and Sidon reply, almost in unison.
You grin at the, “yeah, I know right?”
Sidon stands, adjusting his cravat as he’d been in the middle of putting on all of his adornments, “what caused him to have a change of heart so soon?”
“His son, apparently,” you answer with a small laugh, “after we told him and the other kids all those stories last night, he went home and told his dad about how we’re strong and trustworthy warriors.”
Zelda giggles, “you must have made quite an impression on him.”
“Seems so,” you reply, “I let him know that I’d get the two of you and we’d plan to head over to the pedestal.”
The princess nods, picking up the Sheikah Slate, “well no need to waste anymore daylight. Let’s head out.”
As a group Zelda, Sidon, Teba, and yourself reconvene to chart a course to the pedestal. The glowing point on the map shows that it is located on the Cuho Mountain, south of Rito Village. Luckily the trek to get there is not nearly as long as the one to the Gerudo pedestal had been.
It was decided that you’d return to the Rito Stable and ride your horses along the road, then once arriving at the base of the mountain you’d hike upward. Teba would fly alongside you, not needing a steed due to his ability of flight.
With Sidon’s tall height he’s able to easily assist you and the princess in climbing the sheer cliff faces. When you arrive at the final location, you feel his hand linger on your lower back. It makes you somewhat flustered, and you’re glad neither of your other companions noticed.
As you approach the pedestal you’re once again greeted by a familiar face. Kass happily plays his accordion, and the two Rito greet each other. You assume they must be friendly, considering their children like to play together.
“Ah, we meet again!” the blue Rito chuckles happily, bowing his head in respect, “As expected, there’s a pedestal here as well, in Medoh’s shadow. Another monument mentioned in my teacher’s unfinished song. The song my teacher left behind… there’s a verse about the trials that Champion Revali overcame. Allow me to sing it for you.”
His feathers delicately press the buttons of his instrument as he sings his tune, “Wind’s ally soars the land of cloud, Medoh’s Champion, swift and proud. The hero’s power shall grow, seek trials monuments show. One, shoot the flame dragon’s horn. Two, race down a peak rings adorn. Three, shoot four targets to win. Champion, the trials begin!”
“Thank you for your help once again, Kass,” the princess says with a smile once he concludes his song.
Sidon turns to you, perplexed, “shoot the flame dragon’s horn? Is this perhaps a metaphor of some kind?”
You shake your head, “no, it’s probably about Dinraal.”
Teba looks back at you as well, “Dinraal? What’s that?”
“... the flame dragon?” you answer, as if it's obvious.
“You do not mean an actual dragon, do you?” the prince replies.
“No, no, it is an actual dragon,” you say with a laugh, “you guys haven’t seen them before?”
Both the Rito and the Zora shake their heads.
You’d met the dragon before. In fact, you’d met all three of them. Farosh, Naydra, and Dinraal respectively. You’d plucked a scale from each to offer at the springs of the three goddesses.
So you explain this to them, “yeah, there’s three dragons actually, though they tend to stay away from highly populated areas so they go unseen by most people. Dinraal is said to be a spirit of fire who took the form of a dragon, and in old legends would protect the Spring of Courage. There’s also Farosh, a spirit of lightning, and Naydra, a spirit of ice.”
The princess interjects, “yes, though it’s interesting that you’ve only ever seen three. In my studies of the old texts of the royal family, it says that there was a fourth.”
You tilt your head to the side curiously, “a fourth?”
“Yes,” she replies with a thoughtful nod, “though there’s no record of it in more recent history. But it was to be a different element, and was referred to as a dragon of light.”
You hum in response, “huh. Interesting. A light dragon.”
“All this discussion of dragons is making me quite eager to see my first,” Sidon says with a laugh, “when shall we go looking for it?”
Teba nods, “yes, champion since you’ve seen these dragons before, do you know of their routes?”
A smile graces your lips, “as a matter of fact, I do. I’ve got a good idea of where we could find Dinraal.”
You’d returned to your horses and journeyed east. The closest place you could think of that would give you a close up view of the dragon would be in Tanagar Canyon. Unfortunately, to get there you’d have to momentarily ride through the Tabantha Hills, where the temperatures significantly dropped.
Fortunately, the prince surprised you by revealing that he’d purchased spicy elixirs at the stable from Beedle. These would have to do until you could get him Snowquill armor.
Once you were in the colder region Teba, who was flying up above, alerted you to the fact that he could see another Rito camped out in the canyon. You leave your horses, tying their reins to some trees, before proceeding to climb down to the nearest lip of rocks.
A Rito guard stood beside a campfire, overlooking the vast abyss that was the canyon. He perks up and turns to look at your group as you approach him.
“Mazli,” Teba says, “are you waiting for something here?”
Mazli, a brown Rito, nods his head, “yes, there was a sighting last night of something red and fiery here in the canyon. Kaneli sent me to investigate.”
“That sounds like Dinraal, alright,” you mumble, “what time was the sighting at?”
“The Hylian who reported it at the stable said it was around one o’clock,” the guard replies.
You turn your gaze up to the sky. It’s quite early in the evening, the sun is still rather high. You puff out some air and cross your arms, “well. All we can do is wait.”
And wait you do.
You spent the next few hours laying on the ground beside the campfire. As a group you attempt to pass the time with random discussions. Teba and Sidon talk to each other about their careers as warriors and the battles they’ve fought. Zelda tells you about the history of the Hebra region, and how the large hole in the side of Hebra Peak was the result of a misfire when Revali was first training to be the champion.
“I see that some of the Rito warriors wield spears. If you are in the air, in flight, how could one still use a spear to battle?” the prince had curiously asked.
Teba chuckles as he answers, “it sounds funny, but it’s actually with our feet. It’s the same way that I can shoot my bow while flying.”
Sidon nods, “how fascinating.”
You smile as you listen to the two men speak. You’re happy to see the prince so curious. If you could take him all across Hyrule so he can learn, you’d be more than happy to.
At some point in the evening around when the sun was setting both Teba and Mazli had flown back to Rito Village. They returned with dinner for the group to eat, as there were still a few hours to wait. You bite into a nutcake as you sit on the edge of the cliff, gazing down into the canyon.
You hear footsteps beside you and glance up. Sidon gives a bright smile before sitting beside you. Your legs are dangling off of the rock.
“What are you looking at, darling?” he asks curiously.
You respond with a shrug, “nothing really, just the canyon. I assume you’ve never been down there?”
The prince shakes his head.
“I figured,” you say with a smile. You point with your free hand, “really, it’s mostly just rock down there. I think a long, long time ago there was a river that had carved out all the rock, but it’s all dried up by now. If you were to walk along the bottom of the canyon, though, you would actually find an ancient temple northeast of here.”
“Really?” Sidon asks with a gasp, “have you ever been, little one?”
You nod, finishing off your dessert, “I did, once. It was full of guardians, making it a bit of a dangerous venture. At the end of the temple was this absolutely massive goddess statue. I don’t know what the temple was originally used for. Maybe Zelda does, if there’s something about it in the royal archives. It’s an interesting place, but it’s old and unkempt, practically falling apart.”
The prince laughs softly, and leans back. You see his gaze flicker across the sky, admiring the stars that are beginning to shine now that the sun has set.
He speaks softly, “I must admit… I envy you from time to time, my darling.”
Your brow furrows, “why would you envy me?”
“You have seen so much of this land, quite literally you’ve been to all four corners. I have only ever read about these locations on paper, but you have been able to see them with your own eyes. To learn about them. To experience them. And then, to teach me about them,” he explains with a fond expression, “as you know I was never allowed to travel much, especially after the fate that befell my sister. I’m fairly certain the only reason my father encouraged me to leave was because he knew I would be with you, a competent and talented warrior.”
His hand is on the ground beside your own. You inch over and interlock your fingers with his.
“How about this,” you say, looking up at the sky as well, “after we finish all of this business with the trials and have the champion ceremony, why don’t you and I travel for a bit? Just the two of us?”
He turns his head to gaze down at you, “truly?”
You nod, a grin on your face, “mhmm, truly. With the king’s permission, of course. I’ll take you to all my favorite places. The Korok Forest, the jungle in Faron, I can show you the ancient tech laboratories, we can visit each of the goddess springs-”
As you ramble and list off various locations the prince has nothing but adoration in his eyes.
“I look forward to it, little one,” he chuckles softly.
You sit on the edge of the rocks with the prince for some time, but eventually the temperature drops as the moon rises higher. You drag yourself back to the campfire that Teba has been keeping alive. A little ways away Sidon and the princess speak, with Zelda excitedly showing him some notes she had on the Sheikah Slate.
“So,” Teba speaks up, “you and the prince, huh?”
You fluster and laugh, ignoring the blush that dusts your face, “is it that obvious?”
The white Rito chuckles, setting down the poking stick he’d been using to stoke the flames, “I don’t think it could be anymore obvious. It’s in the way you look at each other. How’d that happen, anyway?”
You watch the flames dance as you speak, “I’m not too sure. I suppose it just kind of did. After I woke up in the shrine of resurrection, Zora’s Domain was one of the first places I went to. After that I kept returning, and the two of us kept speaking and writing letters. One thing led to another, and well…”
“That’s sweet. My wife noticed as well, she has an eye for these things,” he says with humor in his voice, “she said that she thinks you make a cute couple.”
A smile plays on your lips, “good to know.”
As it got later into the night it was decided that you would all sleep in shifts. You’d retrieved blankets from the horse saddles and handed them out to the group. You volunteered to take the first shift.
You were sitting by the campfire, keeping an eye on the canyon. Behind you your companions rested, bundled up as cold winds blew through the area. You had the Master Sword in your lap and were passing the time by polishing the metal with some spare cloth.
Time had passed, though how much you weren’t sure. You weren’t going to wake Zelda to bother her for the slate. The moon was ever so slowly inching its way across the dark sky.
You hear a sleepy murmur behind you, “_____?”
You tilt your head to see who it is. Sidon had woken up, leaning on his arms as he looked at you.
“Hello, sleepy head,” you tease him with a smile.
“Would you like to switch so you can rest?” he asks, sitting up.
You shake your head, “no, I’m alright, I’m wide awake actually.”
Despite your insistence he still walks over to you, taking a seat beside you.
“You’re shivering,” he points out.
You hadn’t realized, but he was right. Your tunic and armor weren’t enough to keep you warm, even with the fire in front of you. The prince wraps an arm around you and drapes the blanket over your shoulders.
“Thank you,” you mumble, “but now you don’t have a blanket.”
“I’ll be fine,” he replies, “how long have you been up?”
“Not a clue,” you laugh.
Suddenly there’s a shift in the temperature. The wind is still blowing, but it’s hot. You stand quickly and walk to the edge of the cliff.
A red glow emanates from the canyon. A grin is in your face when you see the source. Dinraal, the fire spirit, gracefully flies between the cliffs. His scales resemble embers of fire, the light fading in and out similarly to burning coals. Along his back are bright red and orange spikes that match the curved horns atop his head. Balls of fire drift around him, dancing in the wind that he creates.
You run back to the campfire and rouse your companions from their sleep. “Teba, here’s your first trial.”
The white Rito is alert and up fast, grabbing his Swallow Bow and walking to the cliff edge. Everyone marvels at the sight of the dragon.
“This thing is huge,” Teba gasps, “is it dangerous?”
“No, not at all, it doesn’t attack. The fire balls hurt, of course, you just have to avoid those. Even after you shoot its horn it won’t attack,” you explain.
“It is absolutely breathtaking,” Sidon says in awe, “and you said that there’s two more?”
You smile as you nod.
“Its horns seem to be glowing even brighter now,” Zelda interjects, “Teba, I think this is your chance.”
“On it,” he replies before spreading his wings and taking off.
You watch as the Rito skillfully soars over the dragon. He dodges between the fire that radiates off of Dinraal, his wings easily catching the currents of the wind and using it to his advantage. With his talons he grasps the Swallow Bow, lodging the arrow in the wood. He does so effortlessly, showing his years of practice and training.
He hesitates as he aims, before taking a breath and letting the arrow loose.
It strikes the horn of the dragon. Dinraal lets out a gentle cry as a shard of his horn breaks off and falls down into the canyon. Teba flies backward, avoiding the body of the fire spirit as it begins to soar higher and higher into the sky. You watch as it ascends into the heavens.
“Will it be alright?” Sidon asks.
You nod, “yes, it doesn’t do them actual harm. They’re protected by the goddesses. Some say that they’re immortal.”
After retrieving the shard of Dinraal’s horn, Teba returns. He holds the fragment in his wings. It radiates a soft red glow. “It’s warm to the touch.”
“That wasn’t there before…” the princess speaks up, pointing across the canyon.
You follow her gaze and realize that to the south a shrine had appeared. To get there would require crossing the canyon. “It must have risen up after you shot the horn,” you say to Teba.
After some discussion you decide on a plan. You’ll borrow the Sheikah Slate from Zelda and use your paraglider to get to the other side of the canyon while Teba flies. Zelda and Sidon will return to Rito Village with the horses and you’ll meet them there after retrieving the token.
“See you soon,” you whisper to the prince before he leaves.
He quickly leans down to press a kiss to your cheek, “I eagerly await your return, my darling.”
When you turn to look back at Teba he has an amused look on his face.
“Not a word out of you,” you say to him in jest, “c’mon, let’s go do that shrine.”
The next two trials go smoothly. Your only complaints are the chilly weather of the Hebra Region.
The next day your group traveled towards Hebra Peak, stocked with plenty of spicy elixirs and warm meals. After a few hours of travels you came across a glowing blue ring, similar to the ones Sidon and Riju had encountered. Teba had been able to swiftly fly through each of the rings, racing down the mountain. You followed closely behind, using your shield as a sled to surf down the snowy slopes. After the shrine Teba had received his second token.
The third trial takes place at the Flight Range north of Rito Village where you’d first met Teba. Luckily, the Rito already knows the details of this trial. He had explained that it was a feat Revali was infamous for among Rito warriors, his ability to strike multiple targets within a matter of seconds without losing any altitude.
At the range Teba once again displayed his mastery with the bow, easily striking each of the glowing blue targets. He was rewarded with the final shrine appearing at the bottom of the range. After going through it with him, the third token was acquired.
Currently, it is evening. You were waiting outside of Teba’s home. The sun was setting in the distance and the sky was a soft orange. He was speaking with his wife and son, explaining what the circumstances of the next few hours would be. It almost made you feel like an undertaker. As if you were sending a man to his demise.
You’d have to climb to the very top of the spire that held the village, up to where the Divine Beast was perched. Your eyes were upturned towards Medoh as you waited.
“What might you be pondering now, little one?” a voice asks.
When you turn your head to the side you see Sidon walking up the stairs.
You shrug your shoulders as you lean against the fence. You lift your hand and flex your fingers as you reply, “dunno. Just nervous.”
“You have nothing to worry about. Teba is skilled, and you can heal any wounds he receives,” the prince replies.
You frown, “what happens if someday I lose Mipha’s Grace? If I can’t access that power anymore?”
“Then we have other ways of healing. Elixirs and medicines,” he retorts, “you already have so much on your shoulders, do not think that you must bear the weight of keeping everyone healthy as well.”
Just as he finishes speaking, Teba steps outside. The Rito has a stern look on his face. He nods his head at you, “I’m ready whenever you are, champion.”
“Then let’s head up,” you reply.
It was agreed that since you’d have to scale such a tall height that Zelda and Sidon would remain behind. You already had the Sheikah Slate with you, hooked securely to your belt. You bid the prince a quick goodbye, and then you scale the rock.
You use a mix of climbing and Revali’s gale to ascend higher. By the time you reach the summit Teba is already standing there, waiting for you.
“Not everyone has the gift of wings, y’know,” you sarcastically toss out as you climb up over the edge.
Before he can respond to your jab, a voice speaks.
“To the one who approaches this Divine Beast… in the name of the Goddess Hylia, I offer this trial. In exchange for Medoh’s Emblems… you will be granted the chance to tread through the realm of memories.”
Teba holds out the three tokens in his wing, the glow brightly before disappearing out of his grasp.
“Those who lack determination will find this trial unforgiving. Do not take this place lightly, nor dismiss it as merely a world within your mind. The truth is much deeper than you know.”
The white Rito looks over his shoulder towards you. You give him a nod of assurance.
Like the two pilots before him, he’s surrounded by a glowing ball of light. The light grows smaller and smaller before fluttering away towards the Divine Beast. Now you get to play the waiting game.
You pace back and forth on the rock. You don’t bother approaching Medoh, whenever the final trial is occuring there’s some kind of force that stops anyone from going near. Hours pass, the moon and stars continuing their never ending march across the sky. At some point you’re so bored that you attempt to count the stars- this endeavor quickly fails.
In the village beneath you everyone is asleep. The lights are off, save for two buildings. The inn and Teba’s home. You know Saki is awaiting her husband’s return, and Tulin is probably wide awake as well. You can imagine Sidon and Zelda are likely awake and waiting for you to return too.
Your stomach rumbles as you pace. You’d skipped dinner, not having had an appetite because of how anxious you were. You were regretting not having eaten.
It isn’t until the sun begins to rise that Teba returns.
The golden light returns and floats down to the ground. When it fades it deposits the Rito onto the stone. He stumbles over his feet, clutching his wing to his abdomen. You can see blood soaking through his armor.
“Teba!” you gasp, running to be by his side, “stay with me, you made it.”
He sharply intakes a breath of air as you guide him to sit down. His yellow eyes frantically look around as his chest heaves, still running on adrenaline.
You examine his wounds as quickly as possible. It’s clear he’s been shot in the side, likely by the blight’s beam, as not only is blood seeping out of the wound but all of the skin and fabric around it is burnt and singed. Bile rises in your throat from the smell.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry you had to do that,” you whisper, holding your palm over his side. You don’t care if the blood coats your fingers.
You squeeze your eyes shut as you focus, heart pounding as you will your powers to flow forth. You feel warmth in your palm and let out a shaky sigh as you look down, the blue light of Mipha’s Grace emanating from you.
It quickly works to seal his wounds. The gash in his side closes and the skin heals, his feathers returning to their usual position.
Once you make sure he’s completely healed you sit back and breathe in deeply. The sun is bright as it peeks over the horizon. You bask in its warmth.
Teba coughs as he sits up, still sore from the battle. “... I ran out of arrows,” he mutters once he’s ready to speak, “I had to fend for myself with only a feathered dagger.”
Your brow furrows, “I’m sorry, truly. I… I understand if you change your mind about-”
He shakes his head, quickly silencing you, “don’t apologize. All us champions have to face these hardships.”
You smile. He had said ‘us’.
“Now if you don’t mind, I’d like to go see my wife and son,” he says, laughing through another cough.
“Do you reallyyyy have to go already?”
“Yes, I’m sorry kids,” you laugh.
Currently you were surrounded by the Rito children who looked up at you, Sidon, and Zelda with big pleading eyes. You’d packed all your belongings and were ready to say your goodbyes to the town, with Death Mountain as your next destination.
Clearly, the kids weren’t ready for you to leave.
“I’ll come back someday soon, I promise,” you say, slowly walking backwards to the town entrance.
You’re met by a chorus of cries and complaints.
“We have business of the utmost importance,” Sidon says to the children, “it is highly important warrior business. You wouldn’t want to stop us from being warriors, would you all?”
The kids shake their little feathered heads.
“Then we must be leaving, and you must all promise to be on your best behavior in our stead. Promise?” he replies.
The children nod excitedly.
After saying your goodbyes your trio walks across the suspended bridges and returns to the Rito Stable. Persephone happily greets you as you approach the stalls. You guide her by the reins out to the front of the building, where you see an interesting sight.
A messenger bird has just landed on Sidon’s arm. You don’t recognize it, it’s not Archimedo, but it wears the same silver adornments of the other birds that belong to Zora’s Domain.
You walk up to the prince as he retrieves the letter. You pet the bird's feathers, which are a silky white color, and it chirps happily in response.
Sidon’s eyes skim over the paper. You from when you see the way his eyes widen.
“What happened?” you ask.
The prince blinks as he looks toward you. He stammers before answering.
“Archimedo was found on the steps of the Great Zora Bridge… but he was found dead.”
Hello! I don’t know if you were asked this before, I’m sorry if you were, but how do the champions work in the pokemon au?
Hello hello! I haven't been asked about this one yet, and I'm happy to share!
The short answer is that they function very similarly to how they do in botw. The current champions are Urbosa, Mipha, Daruk, and Revali, and I'm hoping to eventually flesh out their stories. But they key to them is that they're not champions in the Pokemon sense of the word. In fact, I refer to them as Pilots in this universe, because they're the pilots of the divine beasts (I have a rather short fic about Urbosa and Riju here)
The divine beasts themselves are a bit of a mystery. Made thousands and thousands of years ago, historical records seem to indicate they were created so that hylians could obtain and control powers similar to those of Pokemon. Only four of the divine beasts survived (that people know of), and they are guarded, operated, and managed by the pilots. It's a big important role to have, one that requires both approval from the league, and rigorous trials set by the previous pilot. The divine beast itself is, according to the pilots, practically a living creature in it own right, and the final trial is for it to accept the potential pilot as its new guardian
As for the pilots themselves, here's a little backstory for each of them, and what they're up to in the present time of the au:
Urbosa: she became a pilot rather young, taking on the trials alongside another person who got rather upset when Vah Naboris chose her. Her niece, Riju, has been trying to convince her to let her begin training to take over her position, but Urbosa wants her to enjoy being young and not tied to such a big responsibility
Mipha: became a pilot for mostly political reasons. As princess, it's her duty to protect Zora's Domain, as well as their guardian Divine Beast. However, after The Main Event, she's become much more interested in becoming a Nurse. She wants to open a facility that can treat both Pokemon and their trainers at the same time, which doesn't exist in this world and made Wild's recovery much much more difficult. Her brother Sidon is trying to figure out if he can convince King Dorephan and Vah Ruta to accept him as a secondary pilot, which would free up time for Mipha to explore her own goals
Revali: hahaha. He grew up alongside Sky, Sun and Goose in Rito Village. He was a nasty little kid, and always picked on the Hylian kids for being unable to fly like he could. Definitely full of himself, thought he was better than them, and fully believed he was destined to become a Pilot. The course of his trials humbled him considerably, and now the bullying has gotten more into the friendly teasing territory. He works with Sky and Artemis in patrolling Hebra and Tebantha to watch for pokemon poachers or stranded hikers. He also has a major soft spot for his Pokemon companion that only Sky, Sun and Groose are allowed to tease him about
Daruk: he's vibing. But he's concerned about his son Yunobo. When he was little little, Yunobo expressed so much pride in his father and a desire to be just like him. He'd dreamed of becoming the next pilot of Vah Rudania, and of course everyone saw the potential in him. But something happened that seem to flip a switch, and he crashed hard. He was no longer as confident, and became very hesitant and shy whenever the subject was brought up. Daruk's tried talking to him, but nothing seemed to work.
Time to Wake Up
And more. This is the last one tho. What a ride. @eradition also, kinda sorta spoilers for the game at the end. Sorta.
———-
Link and Kari traveled to the last Divine Beast, Vah Naboris, on horseback as swiftly as they could. They stopped at a nearby stable for the night only to leave their horses behind and travel on foot to the Kara-Kara Bazaar. Kari chuckled, remembering when she first met Urbosa. She was wounded from a fight before entering the bazaar only for Urbosa to find her, bandage her up, and take her home.
“–ri?” Link called.
“Hah?”
“You okay? You kinda spaced out there.” Link asked, a bit worried about her.
Kari nodded. “I’m fine. Just feeling a bit nostalgic. It’s been over a hundred years since I’ve been here.” Kari gave a small smile. “Nothing’s really changed now that I look closely.” She giggled happily. The two went to the town, only to have Link be turned away due to the no voe rule. But Kari was allowed in. Link was left to find a way in on his own while Kari got information. She looked around and saw so many places that made her remember hanging out with Urbosa, or just doing her own thing. The shops, the open areas. It made her happy that it was all so familiar. Then she saw something near the center of town. A large carving on the ground of the town’s center. Kari gulped when she relized what it was. A carving of her symbols, which were shaped like waning crescent moons. A little explanation was written off to the side.
“This symbol is in remembrance of Champion Urbosa’s adoptive child, Kari. The girl who froze herself in time to prevent an enemy from threatening the champions from a possible early defeat. May she forever be remembered by the gerudo people and maybe even across all of Hyrule.” Kari gulped and stared at the carving for a while.
“Sav’aaq.” A woman called upon seeing the child staring at the ground. Kari looked up.
“Ah, Sav’aaq.” She replied fluently, startling the woman slightly.
“So fluent. Ah, sorry. I don’t meet many Sheikah vai who are that fluent with our language. Much less a child.”
Kari giggled. “I can only imagine.” She smiled kindly.
“I just came by to see if you wanted me to further explain the–” The woman gasped and widened her eyes slightly upon seeing the symbol on the child’s forehead, which was also on her torso, back, backs and palms of her hands, and tops and bottoms of her feet. That same symbol depicted on the ground. “P-pardon, what might be your name, young vai?”
“Kari.” She smiled. The woman widened her eyes more and bowed. “H-hey, n-no need to bow miss. But, Sarqso for the gesture.”
The woman stood. “My apologies. I-I just never thought I’d ever meet someone such as you.”
Kari smiled nervously. “Mama must’ve bragged about me while I was frozen. I swear to Hylia mama you can be a bit dramatic… She must’ve missed me. Can’t blame her.” She thought and sighed.
“Would you mind coming with me? I believe there is someone you should meet.” The woman escorted Kari to the chief’s house happily. There she was introduced to Riju.
“So, you are Kari. I’ve heard stories about you from my mother. She from her mother and so on.” She smiled kindly. “I never thought I would actually meet you. You are spoken of highly throughout the whole gerudo race to this day.”
“Oh boy, mama seriously. Even after one hundred years you still manage to embarrass me.” Kari chuckled shyly. “W-wait. If you heard stories of me through your mother, and she before her… Nah, probably just rumor or spread of the stories.”
“If you are suggesting that Lady Urbosa and I are related, then yes. Though, you would have been the younger sister to my ancestor. Urbosa’s birth daughter left on a journey to find a husband long before you arrived in Kara-Kara Bazaar and met Lady Urbosa.” Riju giggled. “Anyway, I suppose your fight with that follower of ganon went well? Core, am I right?”
Kari, who was still shocked she had an older sister at some point, shook her head. “N-no.” She replied. “Well, I dunno. When I unfroze from energy loss Link managed to chase him off since I had gotten weak. It’s hard maintaining a small area frozen in time. I’m surprised I stayed that way for so long.” She sighed.
Riju hummed. “Well, that is no good. But at least you are alive. That is something to be grateful for.” Kari nodded bitterly.
“I mean… I guess…” She replied. “Anyway, I’m here to get information on how to calm Naboris. Mama’s trapped there and I gotta help her.” Riju chuckled.
“I’ve heard of how determined you are, it’s very infectious.” The Gerudo Chief informed. Kari blushed. “Anyway, I know of a few things. It can’t be reached on foot so a sand-seal would be best for this trip. And since it uses lightning, you will not be able to get too close to it unless you want to be struck down on the spot.” She informed. That was when another vai walked in. Kari stared at the vai and sighed.
“… Looks good on him. Blue really brings out his eyes. Though he’s wearing it rather sloppily.” She thought, eyeing the disguised hero. Riju swiftly found out about Link’s identity and decided to have him stay, since he could calm Naboris. She gave them more information on how to approach the divine beast, using an item called the thunder helm, which could protect them from the lightning. However, the two would have to get it from the Yiga clan, who stole it from them. So, the two set out to get it. While exiting the building, Kari wrote something down on a piece of paper after hearing a woman pleading for help from a guard nearby. Something about her husband being ill and needing Molduga guts to cure him. Kari would do this while on the way to the Yiga clan hideout.
Not long later, the two encountered one. “Kari, seriously?!”
“Shut it, I won’t be long!” Kari called and raced towards the giant beast, swiftly killing it with a few hard hits from ranged attacks. It took her about thirty minutes to kill the beast, grab the guts and other items, and head back to Link.
“And you complain about my side quests.” Link huffed.
“Hey, this one was to save a man’s life. Yours were mainly about giant horses, rupees, and shrines.”
“Hey don’t hate my horse! He’s giant and strong and can easily plow through enemies!”
Kari rolled her eyes. “Yeh, and he’s also slow and doesn’t listen well.”
“Venice doesn’t listen. You even did that quest to get him.”
“Hey, Venice and I get along just fine thank you! Just because I bash you about your love for side quests doesn’t mean you can bash my horse!” The girl growled.
“Fine, fine. I will admit, I do more quests than you. But it does keep a stable income, so you shouldn’t complain too much.”
Kari grumbled. “Fine.” She looked around. “I think we’re close.” She mumbled and put her guard up. The two managed to sneak in and snoop around. They then found a secret area that held the leader, called Kohga. The three fought, ending in a victory for Link and Kari. They left, grabbing all of the Yiga clan’s loot along the way and their mighty bananas as well. Once finished they left back for town Kari gave the guts the woman who gave Kari three hundred rupees in return and said she would name her child after her, if she ever had one. Kari blushed at the outcome and watched the woman run off to get her things to head back to her husband. After that Link and Kari gave the helm back to Riju, who used it to help Kari and Link get on Naboris.It took some time, but the two managed to get on the divine beast and look around. Kari smiled widely as a memory resurfaced.
“Mama, what’s it like being a champion?”
“Hmm? Why do you ask?”
“It seems hard. I mean, it’s a lot of pressure, yeh?”
“Well, yes, it is a lot of pressure. The lives of so many people are riding on my and everyone else’s shoulders.”
“Sounds stressful. But you show so much passion in doing it.”
“Yes, it is stressful, but it is worth it. … Kari, listen to me. When you find something you are passionate about promise me one thing. Go for it. Full force. Put all of your passion, energy, everything into it. Work hard, be smart, be brave, don’t be afraid to take risks. But also take care of yourself and stay healthy. If you are truly passionate about something, the stress won’t really matter in the long run. You’ll hit rough patches and sometimes it will be hard, that is true for life. But that will make it much sweeter when you succeed.”
“I promise! If I ever find something like that I’ll work hard at it! Just like you, mama.”
“That’s my Vehvi.”
“Hey, Mama.”
“Yes hun?”
“You’re lap is super comfy.”
“Haha! It’s like a bed to you, isn’t it? I mean, you are rather small.”
“AM NOT! I’M A GIANT!”
Kari chuckled happily at the memory. “… I’ll work hard, mama.” She mumbled.
“Well, well, well. Link, I was wondering when you’d show.” Urbosa’s voice echoed followed by a gasp. “K-kari?!” She sounded surprised and relieved, yet also worried.
“Mama, I’m here. Don’t worry, Link and I will free you! I promise!” She called out and rushed onward with Link, getting the maps and terminals like with the other divine beasts then going to the last terminal. Kari narrowed her eyes, stopping Link before he activated the main terminal. “Link, if things follow the same pattern as the last three divine beasts.” Kari’s eyes showed pure rage. “Then I will take this enemy down. Alone. Please.” Link gulped and sighed.
“Kari… Just, please be careful. Okay?”
Kari chuckled. “If push comes to shove I’ll just freeze myself again for a while so you can kill it.” She replied.
Link sighed in defeat. “Please don’t let it come to that.”
“We’ll see.” Kari shrugged and Link activated the terminal. An enemy formed and Link took cover while Kari stood her ground, ready to fight.
“Kari, that is Thunder Blight Ganon. It is insanely fast, so be on your guard.”
The sheikah child nodded. “Hey!” Kari called. “You may be strong, but I’m stronger!” She roared, her eyes forming three silver rings around her pupils which were now slits. “Because I have a reason to fight!” Kari vanished and reappeared behind the beast, only to have it zip away. It then raced back to strike the girl, but she blocked and attacked with her scarf ends in the forms of blades. Kari was doing her best to keep up with the beast’s speed. Attacking, dodging, blocking, doing everything she could to avoid much damage. It eventually started to use metal pillars as lightning rods to get the girl down. Kari gulped and did her best to avoid the attacks, but she was struck last second by one of the attacks.
“KARI!” Urbosa called as the child yelped in pain. Kari laid on the ground for a moment, eyes wide as a bit of static circulated her body. Thunder Blight Ganon approached the child to finish her off. “KARI, GET UP!” Urbosa called. Link rushed in to attack, but was quickly shoved away by the enemy.
Kari groaned and shakily stood as Thunder Blight Ganon raised its sword to attack. The child smirked. “I’m not d-dyin here. N-not in front of mama. She won’t have to feel that pain again.” Kari managed, gripping her scarf. Both ends pierced through Thunder Blight Ganon and swiftly ripped through it, upward, killing it instantly. Kari gasped and stood on both feet while Link sighed in relief and reclaimed Naboris from Ganon.
Urbosa’s spirit then approached the two. Upon seeing Kari she gulped and raced to her. Kari did the same. The two cried and did their best to calm each other. “Kari, my sweet Kari. Are you okay? You’ve been eating enough, right? You look a bit skinny. Nothing broken? Are you warm or cool enough?” Urbosa asked.
“I’m okay Mama. Nothing’s broken. Link’s been making sure I eat enough. Yes I’m cool enough. And I’ve been this skinny for a while. It might be a temporary side effect of being frozen in time for so long.” Kari replied with a sniffle.
Urbosa sighed solemnly. “I-I’m so sorry you had to see me like this. I thought our reunion would be different.”
Kari sniffled, wiping her nose on her sleeve. “I-it’s okay mama. I’m-I’m just happy to see you, even if it’s just your spirit. But… I’m also sad because I’ll never be able to hug you again a-and you’ll move on without me eventually.”
Urbosa gulped sadly, collecting herself before speaking again. “Just because I’m dead physically does not make me dead permanently, Kari.” The child blinked out of confusion. “Someone only truly dies when they are forgotten. Not when they are killed. That person lives on in the memory of others. That is why I told stories about you to the gerudo people and to those who would listen. So, in my heart and theirs, you lived on. I was unsure back then if you were… physically gone. I knew you were just frozen but I was not sure if that would last, so I did what I thought was best.” Kari teared up and hiccuped.
“Aw, mama. Sarqso.” She smiled and hiccuped. “S-Sarqso.” She repeated.
Urbosa smiled happily as she saw her daughter’s pure smile for the first time in one hundred years. “You have no idea how much I’ve missed you.”
“I can only imagine.” Kari replied, wiping her eyes and nose again. Link sighed.
“Hey, uh, hate to break it to you guys. But we gotta go.”
Kari looked up at Link. “Ya know. I’ll stay here and talk with mama. You can go back and do those quests and shrines and all that. Okay? I… I wanna catch up with mama. Tell that to Riju too, I think she wanted to talk with me some more when shr had the chance.” Kari informed then approached Link and handed him a whistle. “Here. I made this myself. It has my power imbued in it so when you blow it I’ll hear you wherever you are and warp to you. Only use it when you’re about to fight Ganon, okay?” She informed and smirked. “Because I wanna help bring down the man or beast or whatever responsible for all of this.” She said. Link nodded and took the whistle.
“Got it. You take care of yourself. Okay?” Link smiled and waved goodbye to the two. Urbosa drove Naboris to a good spot to lock onto the castle and crossed her arms. Once that was done she sat down with Kari with a smile.
“So, where should I start? Oh I know, so I woke up about three months ago and–” Kari began telling Urbosa her adventures she had with Link happily. Making gestures and a few jokes and enjoying the time she had left with her mother. Eventually the time came when the two had to part ways so Kari could defeat Ganon with Link. It was a long and hard battle, but they won barely. As for Core, he was not seen or heard from. He must have fled when Ganon was sealed again. But, he might return when Ganon threatens Hyrule once again.
Years had passed since Ganon’s defeat. Kari was living in Zora’s domain with her husband, Sidon. She was now technically one hundred and twenty seven. She had gained a good amount of muscle from fights in the past and training as well as a few scars. Things were peaceful now, still a few monsters here and there, but still overall not as bad as they were. Everything was going well with Hyrule now.
“Mama!” A young voice called behind the sheikah woman as she walked home from training.
“Mama, mama!” Another voice called. The woman turned and smiled. A young gerudo girl and a young rito boy raced to her side. “Mama, what’s for dinner?” The rito boy asked with a smile.
“Not sure. How about you two help me decide?”
“I wanna eat something with volt fruit in it!” The gerudo girl giggled happily, her long hair flowing in the gentle breeze and her piercing teal eyes shimmered in the light of the sunset.
Kari chuckled and the rito boy huffed, ruffling his silver and white feathers. “No way, those are gross!” He stuck out his tongue in disgust while his sky blue eyes squinted slightly.
“Says you, Revba! Volt fruits are delicious!” The gerudo girl stuck her tongue out at her brother in a taunting manner.
“Stop that!” The rito boy growled, apparently named Revba, while ruffling his feathers more.
Kari chuckled and sighed. “Alright, settle down you two. Urboha, don’t antagonise your brother, you know how he hates it. Now come on, you are both helping me with dinner.”
“Yes mama.” The two called in unison, following the sheikah woman happily.
“Hey, hey mama.” Urboha called happily while pulling up her long hair into a high, floofy ponytail. “Tell us about granny Urbosa again while we cook! Please!”
“No, no, tell us about Great Uncle Revali!” Revba called while trying to flatten his feathers to the way he liked them. Kari rolled her eyes at the two.
“How about I tell you something else? Your father and I thought about adopting two more kids. A goron and a Zora. Maybe a third, a hylian. But nothing is certain.”
“Really?! Awesome!” Revba chuckled, a wide smile on his face. “I can’t wait to have a little sibling!”
Urboha smiled. “Yay, more siblings!” Kari giggled at her children’s happiness. “Hey, are we gonna see Uncle Link and Aunt Zelda any time soon? Or Uncle Yunobo? Or Aunt Riju? Or even Uncle Teba and Aunt Saki?”
“I dunno. Maybe. Your aunts and uncles are very busy you know. So if they can visit, I’m sure they will let us know.” Kari smiled. “Right, let’s get cooking. My mama taught me this recipe so it should be delicious.” Kari smiled and cooked with her two children, telling them stories about the champions from so long ago while doing so.
You’ve grown so much, Kari. I’m proud of the vai you’ve become.
Revali the Second, also known as "Reva" or "Revarie," is the near carbon-copy son of the Rito Champion Revali. The only notable differences between him and his father visually being the green feathers around his eyes. His father had red feathers in the region. He hatched about one year after the Great Calamity. He was named "Revali the Second" after his mother initially believed him to be a reincarnation of her late husband. During the Age of Burning Fields, he and his mother fled Rito Village and eventually settled in Lurelin in hope that he could grow up outside of his father's shadow. He initially rejected his birth name, going by "Reva" or "Revarie" until his early 20s when he realized he couldn't run from his identity as Revali’s son and re-assumed his original name. He eventually married Link's younger sister, Hyrule's last full-blooded Wolfbred, Duchess Sydnei Imperial. He and his wife were a pair of traveling bards before Sydnei became leader of Hateno. He then became Hateno's historian. His wife affectionately calls him "Revali Part 2"
He is the grandfather of Kass the Rito Bard. He is also the grandfather of Reede, mayor of Hateno Village. (Hylia was involved with this.)
He is a recurring main character from my BotW fanfiction novel "Successors"
I had absolutely no idea what to make him wear, so he wears nothing 😅 My brain is not particularly fashionable.
Oooo let’s do Revali! ✌🏻
Revali, as my favourite BoTW character, might be quite a long post... 😅
What I love about him:
He’s badass and hardworking and very cool. I find his snideness a little irritating, but it is part of his charm. He’s a candid upfront person not afraid to speak his mind, and not afraid of the consequences when he does. Revali also manages to have faith in his abilities and understand that he is perhaps one of the strongest (if not the strongest) champion out of the lot of them (although Urbosa could give him a run for his money), and simultaneously be terrified of failure and incredibly insecure in himself and his strength. I’m not quite sure how he does it, but it is fascinating. I suppose his ego flip-flops? He struggles with his place in the world and chases perfection that he can never have, and wants to be a hero, the hero, everyone loves and looks up to. I can’t quite work out if its to prove some disappointed/ disapproving person in his life wrong, or to make someone in his life proud of him. He might just be doing it for himself, but usually there’s something deeper in a person. Revali doesn’t want to be weak and he doesn’t want to be cared for, and is afraid of vulnerability and of love, which is something that the found family vibe of the Champions probably breaks down, at least a little bit.
All of this is inference and presumption though, since it’s fairly difficult to truly understand a character who got very little screen time in a video game.
I also love how young he is (around the same age as Mipha, Link, and Zelda according to Urbosa), because it gives an interesting angle to his character. I thought he was a little older than the other three before reading that, because he seemed like an immature 30 something (rather than a mature 18-20 something), and it makes his duty-bound grown-up-ness around the other characters (aside from Link) quite interesting. He, like Link and Mipha (Mipha, as a Zora, is around this age, and is mentally the same stage of development) (I won’t put Zelda here since she is 17, rather than 18-20), are barely adults (around 18/19) and required to fight a war against an evil that they all know barely anything about. They are all forced into a responsibility that they are probably far too young for, and it heightens the tragedy of these characters, who were brutally killed, after only just starting adulthood. It also makes his immature rolling eyes at Link and huffing angrily etc. in cutscenes more tolerable. Most people aren’t all that mature at 18-20.
What I hate about him:
The dude is just such a grating person. He is a jerk and sometimes I want to hurl something at his head and tell him to shut it! He’s so mean to Link… It is intrinsic to him as a character, but sometimes he really needs to shhhh! 😂
Favorite Moment/Quote:
This is quite a hard one, I really like the DLC memory with Revali because it's a very different side to him than previously shown, he’s upset and vulnerable and angry, and then Zelda announces her presence, and he’s back to his usual bravado filled smugness. We get to see that the cockiness is actually (at least partially) a facade to hide his fear and his self-criticism. I also love talking to him on Medoh, whilst Link is trying to free him and the Devine Beast, he warms up to Link and they grow together, so I can't really decide!
What I would like to see more focus on:
As far as I can tell, Revali is the only champion who isn’t of noble birth. He isn’t the son of the captain of the guard (Link), he isn’t a princess (Mipha and Zelda), he isn’t a cheiftess (Urbosa), and he doesn't have high standing within his domain as a magical and gifted person (Daruk). He’s just a normal ordinary Rito, even his rather minimalist diary, that says very little of note, particularly in comparison to the other champions' diaries, elaborates on this. One sentence I found particularly interesting in that regard was this:
‘Everywhere I go I receive praise and affirmations that I am the pride of the Rito. I...could get used to this.’
The phrase ‘…could get used to this’ (particularly after an ellipsis) implies that previously it wasn’t the case. Revali didn't get praise or affirmation from others until very recently (at the time of him writing the entry). Wether he was ignored or shunned by others, he was a commoner, rather than a noble or royal or of high social standing.
I guess what I previously talked about, the fact that he is the same age as Link (who is between 18/19 - 20 (Creating a Champion states this)) and therefore quite a young man when the calamity hits, would be interesting to focus on… I’m not sure how one would do that though… 😅
What I would like to see less focus on:
One thing is his attitude. There’s a lot of stuff how arrogant and angry he is all the time (and he is an arrogant angry birb, it’s true) but there’s not a lot of focus on the other parts of him, and I don’t actually think he’s all that arrogant.
The other champions have statues (with the exception of Urbosa, who has no commemorating items aside from the Thunder Helm), and Revali has a landing that was made to get to the Flight Range, which was constructed so that he could improve himself and help the children of his village. The other champions have things commemorating them, and how great they were (which is a good thing, don’t get me wrong, Mipha and Daruk deserve a statue) but Revali has a landing that advances Link in his quest and helps people, only the name (and maybe the Rito insignia that was on his old scarf) signify the fact that it’s for Revali. It wasn’t even originally built for Revali, but for the Flight Range, which was Revali’s choice when asked what he wanted done to commemorate his victories and success.
Here’s the quote from Creating a Champion about it:
‘The Flight Range was originally constructed at Revali’s request. Using its updrafts it is possible to practice archery and flying. Revali wanted to nurture the next generation of warriors, and later opened the Flight Range as a practice space for children.’
Actions speak louder than words, and from Revali’s actions I don’t really see a snobby angry puffed up Rito who’s a real fan of himself, I see a man that cares deeply about his people, about children, and about creating infrastructure that helps. Yeah, he’s a bit grating and he sounds like a puffed up jerk, but when push comes to shove, Revali genuinely cares about the greater good and the betterment of the Rito.
Favorite pairing with:
Mipha. I can’t really see him with anyone else, and even then Mipha belongs with Link, so I suppose a pining sort of Miphvali? Tbh, I don't really ship him with anyone, maybe in an au he would work well with Mipha, but idk.
Favorite friendship:
Link and Revali. No question. I know there’s little basis for it actually in canon (at least pre-calamity), since Revali despises Link because of festering insecurity, but there are little hints of bro-ish bantering sibling vibes. His relationship with Link is a bitter one-sided sibling rivalry born from insecurity and self loathing that blossoms into a genuine friendship and familial care. His growth with Link actually mirrors a more personal one I went through with my own sister, I loved that friendship because it’s something I can really identify with.
NOTP:
Following on from that, RevLink. They are friends with a grudging sibling dynamic and genuine care for each other, that's it (IMO). Revali’s story is one that he starts and finishes on his own, independently. RevLink eliminates what little agency Revali as a character already had and makes him just a dude who doesn’t want to admit his feelings about love.
Revali's story in BoTW is about hard work paying off, about perfectionism and realising your own limits, it’s about accepting a back seat and doing the behind the scenes work even if you want to be in the spotlight, it’s about tragic inevitability and the cruelty of fate, it’s about destiny ignoring the hard working little guy who wants to be chosen, and it’s about the unfairness of war and the cost of victory, it’s also about supporting your teammates, and working at friendships, and about laying yourself aside for the greater good. It is not a story of pining love and accepting yourself. It’s much deeper and more profound than that, and that’s why I’m not a fan of RevLink. The dynamic might work, they might even be a cute couple, but story-wise it damages Revali and the impact he had on the world (IMO).
I’m also not a fan of UrbosaXRevali but that one doesn’t impact the story, it just isn’t something I like.
Each to their own, but personally nether of those are for me.
Favorite headcanon:
Well, I have a few, but I’m going to go with these two (they're little weird and about fashion history and more the Rito in general, but bare with... 😅): The developers said that they were going for a more medieval European clothing style for the Rito, and they did, it looks great, but they may have accidentally given the Rito corsets. So, I made a head-canon to fit exactly that, to make it have purpose rather than just being an artistic choice. The pattern on the leather Revali wears is similar to the boning in a corset, and the stitching on the other Rito’s leather clothing (Teba’s in particular) matches a 18/19th century corset. I like to think that these are worn for the usual reason for wearing a corset, posture correction, back support, and support of the chest. Corsets used to be what women would use to support their busts before bras were invented, and since the Rito have rather large chests (in comparison to their small lower torso and little legs), a corset would be useful in supporting that. The hollow bones of a Rito (they must be hollow otherwise something of that size with such a small wingspan wouldn’t be able to fly) might make the Rito’s back require extra support, so the spine and back in general would be supported by those.
Another one of my Revali head-canons is that the Rito clothing he wears is antiquated, and shows that he lived 100 years prior to the contemporary Rito of BoTW, the fashion of BoTW’s Rito village is drastically different to what Revali actually wears: here’s a list because I came up with a little compiled list of stuffs (oh the things you do when you’re a writer and need the specifics of a piece of clothing…😂)
Revali wears Pteruges around his waist, Teba (and all the other warriors) wear a long piece of leather and two pieces of fabric ether side.
Revali has Pauldrons with only one colour, Teba (and the other Rito) have at least two (sometimes three or more) different colours on their Pauldrons
Revali wears jade anklets, and wears nothing on his feet, Teba wears armour on his feet, several anklets, and an armour like thing on his legs
There’s more, but I can’t really be bothered writing them all down here.
Anyway, thank you very much for the ask @wanderingnightingale! This was a lot of fun!! 😆 I’m so sorry about how long this was, but Revali is a very fun character to write about! Thank you for asking me about him! I love writing about my fave birb! 😁
"Fly through the earth, run through the sky, eyes of the sky and eyes of the earth"
Chapter 1: The Return of the Legendary Warrior
Snap, snap.
The arrow released by the boy was not blown away by the air currents and broke the shiny blue target in a straight trajectory.
"Holy shit! Link's as good with a bow as Mr.Revali!!"
A small Rito boy who was watching the scene (he was probably still new to handling arrows, since even a small bow seemed to be too big for his body) commented with a twinkle in his eye on the boy...Link, who had already broken all the targets in a few moments.
Revali.
It is the name of a young warrior who was chosen by Rito to defeat the evil 100 years ago.
The arrows he shoots pierce the fine.
His flight through the sky is like a gale.
He handled the bow, which was as tall as he was, with ease.
Even though it is only in literature, his name and strength remain in the village of Rito, and even today, all men grow up being told to "become a warrior like Master Revali," and this is passed on to their children when they are born.
"Hey Dad, did you see that?"
"Of course."
The dignified-looking, white-feathered warrior of the Rito tribe, who was called "Dad," was named Teba.
Teba had been sitting in front of the cooking pot earlier, but he stood up and came over to Link with his son, Tuli by name, and laughed and showed his white breath.
"You're always so good at what you do, I'm going to have to start making targets again."
The place where the three of them were was a place called the Flight Training Center, which was built by the old chief to help Revali hone his skills.
In this place where the updrafts are always blowing up from below, he created an unconventional technique called "Revali's gale", which is a vertical leap.
According to his diary, which has recently been found, he allowed the children of the village to use this place freely, not only for himself, but also for all the warriors of the village.
Thus, the availability of Teba and Tuli was a remnant of this.
It was quite rare for a Hylian Link to have access to this place, and it was safe to say that Teba's recognition of his high level of archery was the reason why.
Now after the defeat from the disaster,
The hero of Hyrule, the boy Link, and the princess Zelda, who possesses the power of the seal, and,
Unbeknownst to the people of present-day Hyrule, the disaster was safely contained by the divine beasts controlled by the four champions who had become souls and were waiting for them.
Maybe there's no reason to fight anymore.
However, in order to protect their loved ones, both Link and Teba spent their time training as knights and warriors.
Teba wanted Tuli to become a great warrior, and whenever Link stopped by the village of Rito, she asked him to teach Tuli how to use a bow, saying, "There are other men besides the Rito who are good at archery.
"By the way, Link."
When his name was called, Link, his face flushed from the cold, looked back at Teba.
"What about the Steller's sea eagle bow? I'm sure you can handle it no problem, can't you?"
The bow said to have been used by the former champion Revali.
That is the Steller's sea eagle's bow.
It is made of wood so that it is easy to use in the air, and it is no different from other Rito bows in that the master craftsmen of Rito can draw the string faster than other bows, making it easier to shoot in rapid succession.
However, the weight was increased by four stabilizers, which were like weights, and there were no Rito who could use them to get the right arrow flight, not only at that time, but even now, 100 years later.
Of course, Teba tried to use it, but although he could pull the string, the weight of the bow greatly reduced her speed in the air.
This fact must have made Teva and many other warriors envious of Revali, and passed his name on to future generations.
And Link, this thin-armed boy who showed great skill in the air, might be able to handle this bow.
After the two of them sank the divine beast, Va-Medo, Teba told the chief about entrusting the family's treasure to Link, and he agreed, saying that of course the descendant of a champion would do it.
Teba wondered if it was his imagination that Link had muttered "nostalgic" when he handed him the bow, even though no one had been let out of Rito's village in a hundred years.
With that in mind, Teba let Link try out a shot at the flight training area.
Link dropped a number of targets in a moment, just like the legendary champion. After Teba finished her praise, "That's great," most of the visible targets were gone.
Even though it is an excellent bow, there is inevitably an affinity between the bow and the user. And bows are different depending on how they are used.
Teba had heard that the bows of the Gerudo region were suitable for hunting in the desert, and that the bows of the beast kings were powerful enough to finish off their opponents.
What Link was holding now was not a Steller's sea eagle bow, but one that had been adjusted for the Hylians, but would a Steller's sea eagle bow really be suitable for his purposes?
That bothered Teba, so he called out to him.
"...I think I'm going to confuse you."
That's what Link says back.
"Confused? You didn't break it, did you?"
"I didn't break it.
"Did you lose it?"
"I didn't lose it.
"What do you mean?"
Just then, He heard a gurgling sound of wind.
Teba and Tuli peeked to see if the wind was blowing up from the flight training area, but there was clearly one updraft that was stronger than usual.
The Ritos have ten times the visual acuity of other species, and also have excellent kinetic vision.
They could clearly see a bluish or black-feathered Lito in the middle of the current, carrying a Steller's sea-eagle bow and climbing up the current like a swimming fish.
The dry snow fluttered in the wind and hit them cheeks.
"I got it back."
As soon as he heard the sound of the strings being pulled, three bows were released and snatched Link just short of his hair.
No way, no how, no how.
Teba didn't blink and stared at the Rito warrior.
There were no details of his appearance in the literature, only that he was not that tall, as the Steller's sea eagle's bow was as tall as he was.
Four braids of jade, interlaced with thin cloth.
The red of his cheeks showed that he was not yet of age.
"Dad, is that..."
Shortly after Tuli called out, the Ritos landed on Link, Teba and Tuli.
"Do you know me? Well, of course I do."
How the Champions would give you a hug, headcanon edition:
Mipha: She hugs with grace. Though her Zora body is always more on the cool side, there is an incredible amount of warmth when she embraces people. She has a wonderful tendency of complimenting the person she’s hugging, and that often leaves you feeling very cheery after the hug.
Urbosa: Her hugs are meaningful. Urbosa’s strength may be intimidating to some, but her hugs bring out the gentle side of her. There’s a feeling of protection in the arms of this Gerudo chief, but don’t let that distract you from the fact that her embrace is a soft one. Sometimes she’ll put her hand on the back of your head in a loving gesture.
Daruk: He’s all about hugs! Those strong arms of his can hug multiple people at once, but when it’s just you and him - boy do you get the bear hugging of a lifetime! He engulfs you with so much joy, though he’s actually quite careful as to not crush you against the harder edges of his body. He also has a tendency to lift you off your feet and swing you a bit in the hug when he’s a little too happy.
Revali: They’re not always his thing considering Revali isn’t normally the affectionate type. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t give hugs though. Though you can probably count them on one finger, the embraces you’ve gotten from the Rito have been noteworthy. Those large wings of his literally will enclose you against him. Not to mention, his feathers are incredibly soft! He doesn’t say anything when he hugs you, but somehow you can always tell that he enjoys giving you a hug since you feel him gently squeeze you when he does.
Sidon: An enthusiastic hugger! He’s very careful not to hug you too hard, and he takes into consideration your height difference! He prefers to wrap his arms around your neck when he hugs you, which lets him lean his head on top of yours. He also tends to hum when in an embrace, though he doesn’t know he does so - it’s an unconscious reflex because he’s happy to see you!
Riju: She hops right into your arms every time! Since she’s so young, she knows her stature is a little smaller than yours, which is exactly why she has no problem pulling a jump-hug combination on you. Often she’s told by her staff that she needs to conduct herself with more poise, but she always reminds them there is no weakness or dishonor in hugging someone you care about with some spirit!
Yunobo: An incredibly tender hugger. It takes him a little bit of time to get comfortable with hugging you as he can be incredibly shy, but once he’s past that stage, you almost don’t want him to ever stop hugging you. He wraps you up with such warmth, and even though you can’t see it, his smile when he holds you is equally as warm. He will gently place one his hands on the square of your back, just so he can hug you close.
Teba: His wings are also incredibly soft! Opposite of Revali however, Teba is actually quite the fan of hugs. Having a son, he understands that hugs are very meaningful for bonding and showing you care. He often will give a gentle squeeze in his hugs and may opt to affectionately place a wing on the top of your head.
-The return of the Heroes-
Sidon:
Deep down, he hoped that with the destruction of Ganon in the past, there would be a chance that Mipha is still alive in his future, waiting for him alongside their father and the other zoras.
As he returned back to the Zora Domain, he tried to act as normal as possible, but his heart was racing.
Obviously when he saw her statue, he understood she was no longer here.
He stood in front of the statue for some minutes, before being spotted by one of the guards. Who seemed relieved to see him.
It seemed that he had disappeared for quite some time, and everyone feared something happened to him.
“Are you feeling well your Majesty? Did something happened to you?”.
Sidon smiled at him “I have great news!”.
Everyone was stunned after hearing the story of their Prince and what occurred during his journey.
It took some time for some Zoras to believe him, but most of them and the king trusted him. Why would he lie about such a thing?
Sidon and the other Zoras were still a bit sorrowful, yet relieved to think that somewhere else, through time and space, The Princess was safe and sound.
Teba:
Teba had left his home in a hurry as a portal to another dimension appeared at the Flight Range.
Saki and Tulin watched him jump into it without even understanding the situation.
Panicked, she had warned everyone back in the village about the situation.
The Flight Range was soon flooded with Ritos trying to understand what could have happened to their best warrior.
So when Teba reappeared, everyone was shocked but relieved.
He had so many things to tell them, and as they all flew back to the village, everybody gathered around the fearless Rito, eager to listen to his journey.
And what a journey, indeed.
As he told them he had encountered the great Revali, questions flooded around him, but one caught his attention.
“How was he!” his son, Turin, asked, all excited to hear more.
“Well, I can say for sure that he was not as I imagined him,” Teba smiled “he was quite a Champion, that's for sure!”
After answering most of the questions, Teba even showed them some moves he learned from the Rito Champion.
Riju:
Riju was exhausted physically and mentally as she let herself fall on her bed and grabbed one of her sand seal plush.
The Gerudos were glad to found their young chief alright, especially Buliara, the Gerudo guards’ Captain.
The latter attempted to question the young lady, still worried after her sudden disappearance.
But Riju didn’t want to speak about it, not now at least.
So here she was, looking at the ceiling, tightly hugging her plush.
Why did she felt that way?
It was like when she lost her mother. She was lost and all alone.
“I know you’ll lead our people well, Riju.” the voice of the Great Urbosa echoed in her mind.
That’s right. Riju was the proud Chief of the Gerudo. She wasn’t lost, nor alone. Sad maybe. But she had duties. And a promise to keep.
She jumped out of her bed, hurtled down the first stairs to the great hall.
And when she reached the second one, she took a deep breath and stepped onto the throne with assurance.
Everyone, surprised to see her, remained silent as she made her way to the throne.
As Riju finally sat down on the throne, she explained all the previous events to all the Gerudos present in the room.
That day, no one dared contradict her. The chief had spoken.
Yunobu:
As Yunobo reappeared in his time on top of Death Mountain, he found himself at peace, taking everything in. The Gorons' voices in the village, the lava and sun's warmth, the ground under his feet.
He remembered every event of his journey, every moment he shared with the Great Daruk, and he felt more and more confident.
After all, he fought alongside him and defeated Ganon.
He even got a chance to learn some of his moves and pilot Vah Rudania.
For a moment, he asked himself if he should share his adventures with the others.
“Pfff, they will never believe me...” he laughed at himself, letting himself fall on the rocky ground.
“Maybe one day...” he said relaxed, looking at the view of Hyrule.
It was good to be a hero.
+BONUS+
Link and Zelda’s reactions:
After hearing the four new champions, relate to the events of their journey. Zelda and Link were open-mouthed.
Was this real? Did they manage to save everyone in another dimension?
Zelda couldn't believe it at first, but the more she listened to their adventures, the more she knew this was real. And this thought brought some tears to her eyes.
In the meantime, Link could only smile, knowing that his friends were alive somewhere.
au where link was born as a zora, still the champion of hylia just a zora now! or botw au where hylia and demise switches places, where demise is good and hylia is bad!
OOOOO! Thanks for sending these my way! They're both really good au ideas! I’m going to do both cause why not! Okay here’s what I got.
Zora Link AU:
Follows BoTW/AoC
(fair warning, these headcanons read out more like a story outline than actual headcanons. But hey, new fic idea?)
Link still grows up in Zora’s Domain. In fact, he is born around the same time Mipha is, just a few years shy of her. They grow up together and become inseparable friends, from childhood to their young adult years. Although, their friendship starts taking a hit as Mipha becomes busy with her duties to the Domain, and Link undergoes knight training for the Domain’s Royal Guard. They start seeing each other far less than they like to.
By the events of Pre-Calamity, Link is now serving in the Zora Royal Guard, youngest ever to apply! Mipha has officially taken on her princess duties. They still maintain a close friendship, but an attraction to each other has started to grow (yes, I’m a sucker for childhood friends to lovers, especially in this capacity for the AU). Their friendship has re-kindle thanks to a certain Zora King. Link has been serving as Mipha’s personal knight for nearly a decade now, appointed by Dorephan because he knows what’s going on between the two, and just like any best dad, wants to help nurture their growing affection for each other.
Link hears the call for the search of the Hero. He can’t explain it, but he feels like he must answer Rhoam’s request. This feeling grows stronger every time he passes by the Domain’s Goddess statue. Like a whisper on the wind, coming from the bust of Hylia herself. Mipha is concerned for him, as no other Zora will answer...everyone knows it has always been Hylians who have been the hero in ages past. Link tries to explain to Mipha that he doesn’t know why he must do this, only that he has to. This causes some contention in their relationship.
When Link pulls the Master Sword from the pedestal there is a political shitstorm. Hyrule isn’t too happy that a Zora pulled the sword from the pedestal. It’s unheard of, preposterous even. And yet, Rhoam understands these are trying times, and with the Calamity at their doorstep, he will take all the help from Hylia he can get, by any means. The Zora rejoices as one of their own is the Hero, but Mipha, while happy for Link, can’t join in their jubilation. She’s afraid for Link, of the destiny he has been set on. Yet she resolves to support him in any way she can.
Then Hyrule comes in to claim the hero. Hylia is the providence of Hylians, and being the Blessed Hero of the Golden Goddess, Link must serve Hyrule in their eyes. The Zora are not about to let one of their own go. There is a political fallout between the two kingdoms and the sparks of conflict begin to rise. Link, knowing his duty and what must be done, plans to surrender himself to Hyrule. He confides his worries with Mipha, his concerns and although she begs him not to go, they both know he has no choice. Dorephan is informed of Link’s plan, so a political agreement is made with Hyrule that Link will serve Hyrule and cut all ties to the Domain.
This makes Link the Silent Knight as we know from AoC/BoTW. And he serves Zelda in the same capacity. His silence comes from everything he has had to sacrifice as well as the weight of duty on his shoulders. Zelda herself doesn’t change much, only her initial opinion on Link changes a little more swiftly when she eventually learns what Link had to sacrifice to destiny. She actually becomes his biggest defender against the belittlement of some of the Hyrulean noble court and her father at some points.
As you can imagine, Mipha being selected as Vah Ruta’s pilot is even more controversial after losing Link. Dorephan puts his foot down and refuses to budge on the matter. The monster attack ala AoC forces Dorephan’s hand, but not before reinstating Link as Mipha’s personal knight (stealing this from you Ebony). He knows Link is Zelda’s personal bodyguard, but he is not about to lose his daughter and the Zora he basically views as his son-in-law already, to Hyrule.
I have another idea based around @deusexananas Hylian Mipha art, but those are headcanons for another time!
Demise and Hylia swap:
Ganondorf is the chosen hero. Obvious answer there. Born into the Gerudo Kingdom, he is the Prince of the Gerudo, chosen of the Ancestor (Demise) to help seal the coming Light. Demise’s very blood flows through his veins, giving him access to god-like powers once awakened.
Gerudo is not all female in this AU, but the majority of the population is female.
Gerudo Zelda! She is a humble warrior of the Gerudo Kingdom, her father served in the Gerudo Royal Guard before dying to the blessed hordes of Hylia. She grew up in Rito village, becoming close friends with Prince Revali, before training to become a knight and stopping the coming Calamity from evil incarnate.
The Hylians are a lesser kingdom, established on the Hyruelan Steppes. Once a blight on the land from their ceaseless warring and banditry, the Hylians have stopped their violence, settling down after a decisive defeat by the Gerudo in ages past. They are ashamed that one of their own became the Champion of Hylia.
Calamity Link! In the past, he was a warrior who simply wanted to do right by the Hylian people, and was consumed in his quest for power; corrupted by the will of the Triforce, for though in his heart he wanted to help his people, he craved Courage above all else. Prophecy says that He will return, bringing with him a flood of Light and an end to all things.
