Cooking Crush Finale: I'm Going to Miss This Show

Honestly tl;dr on this post is that this show is great, it ended leaving me the way the show has felt for me week to week, which is a good thing. I've said it too many times in tags and posts but let's say it once more: This show is fundamentally kind, it felt like it was giving me a hug every week, and I'm going to miss that a lot.

In my post after ep10 I mentioned that the writing on this show was making me so happy by having the conflicts converge on this one contest, and that did come to fruition in a way that I found very satisfying. The one nitpick I will say is the bullying storyline did feel dropped. Theoretically, from a thematic read, I actually love that, because these bullies had the best possible comeuppance by becoming completely irrelevant to Prem, Dy, and Samsee's lives and utterly forgotten. They failed at getting them kicked out of the contest, failed at eroding their self-esteem, and failed at preventing them from succeeding. The victory over the bullies is really how these three left that contest still feeling proud of themselves, good about what they accomplished, and optimistic about their futures. The show focusing on their group hug rather than the "winners" of the contest underscores that for me. And I love that we get the timeskip to see Prem's chef's table restauraunt, and that all of them are there as the first customers (including Metha, so glad this MVP stayed part of the group!). However, without the show telling me explicitly that should be my takeaway, I hesitate to assume that's what it meant to do (rather than the show just running out of time). It's satisfying enough for me, but I acknowledge that I had to fill in that detail on my own to be satisfied. And I am willing to do that for this show because it did such a good job with the other threads.

The conflict with Ten's dad was so satisfyingly tied up in Prem wanting to win the contest--not just to prove that he was worthy of Ten, but to be able to pay Ten's father back for the money he'd gotten--and I appreciated how Ten's resolution with his father was nuanced and not perfect. His father showed his support and gave verbal acknowledgment of Prem as a suitable partner but remained distant, and that visual contrast of him sitting at the restaurant table alone in the same spot he used to sit with Ten and his mother was telling. He doesn't apologize, but he doesn't get an easy redemption either; it felt very in character that he'd only accept Prem in Ten's life after Prem proved himself over time (and only after Ten continued to prove that he was still going to live up to his father's expectations while dating Prem).

I referenced in my Fire & Dynamite hype post that one of the things their relationship does for Dy is give him confidence that someone will be there in his corner. When he came out of the room having lost and was the only one without someone to hug, my heart dropped. But his did too, and it's because he knew, in that moment, that something was wrong. He had learned to expect and rely on Fire's presence, and that growth is something I loved to see. The way he went searching for Fire rather than internalizing that Fire wasn't there for him, and then was able to be there for Fire in the confrontation with Fire's mom--that meant so much to me. It was subtle, but compare it with the scene in ep10 when Fire shows up at the contest and Dy is surprised to even see him. My boy has grown so much! That confrontation with the mom was also really well done; I loved that Fire made it clear his sexuality was not Dy's 'fault' but was something he'd hidden from his mother and tied all of that up in his dynamic with her overall: that he's afraid to share his true self with her because he's afraid of disappointing her. This was such a huge moment for Fire, and I was so proud of him! And I love that it took her time to go away with that, sit with it, and decide to take it in and to change. And I also love that she still doesn't really like Dy, and that their relationship is antagonistic tolerance lol that was a satisfyingly realistic place for those relationships to land, and I really appreciated that none of that was easy. The look on Dynamite's face when he sees Fire's mother accepting him was so complicated; I absolutely loved Aungpao in that scene. Seeing someone you love being accepted for something you weren't by your own parent is so complicated a feeling--I don't doubt for a second that he was so happy for Fire, but there's a moment where I'm sure he was also feeling sorry for himself (rightly so). And Aungpao was able to communciate that complexity of emotion. I'm really looking forward to seeing more from him in future.

And the way they retained the Ten and Prem communication dynamics all the way through was so satisfying for me! I wrote a really long post about this halfway through the series here, and I haven't felt the need to do anything as thorough for the back half because the show really just kept doing more of the same (and I loved it every time). But, just to highlight this moment in the finale, when Ten asks Prem to say he loves him, and Prem kisses him and asks if Ten can hear him--for once, Ten doesn't ask him to use his words, he just asks Prem to say it louder (i.e. kiss him more), because Prem is now using his words more regularly and Ten finally understands what he means with his gestures, he no longer has uncertainty requiring the reassurance of explicit communication. It was a really cute nod to their continued pattern through this show, and to the deepening of the understanding between them.

Tying this moment from the finale to one of the broader things I found so comforting about this show: The relationship between Ten and Prem took work, which they showed on-screen, both the initial formation and the maintenance. And in that work, we got to see a couple stay together through difficult times, decide together how to handle problems as they come up, support one another through hardships, comfort one another, give one another strength, and ultimately make one another better at the things they were trying to achieve. Even though there was very little fighting in a literal sense, these two are my ultimate battle couple to date. I wanted to hug this show back every week as these characters made choices I'd been yelling at my screen for protagonists to make for literally years. And there was still conflict, and the characters still had growing to do, and they weren't perfect. But they let one another not be perfect, they let one another be hurt, and then work through that together. This relationship has skyrocketed to one of my favourites in any BL.

And as much as I love this core relationship, as well as the incredibly nuanced queerness of Dynamite and Fire's dynamic, which was so satisfying to see depicted on my screen every week too, and which I will absolutely love forever--the way Dy gave Fire space to figure out how and when to come out even to the point of risking his own precarious housing situation, and then supporting him by being honest about what to expect (and what he will be risking) is something I will also hold this close to my heart as one of my favourite BL moments--the best thing about this show was the core friendships. I will be forever thankful for a show that treated its core queer friendships with the same or even higher priority to the romantic relationships. I've written previously about how exciting it was to me that one of the major conflicts in this show was between the friend group, and I want to call that out again because it was so rare and so satisfying as an arc. And that moment in episode 10 when Ten delays asking Prem to be his boyfriend in order to allow Prem his emotional reunion with his friends was such an important gesture--not just for Ten and Prem, but for the Cooking Crush audience. It was so rare and satisfying to see a show prioritize friendship first.

Alright I've ranted enough. If you weren't sure about this show for whatever reason (too much else to watch; heard rumblings about some of the early episodes; didn't want to trust GMMTV again), I am happy to tell you that if you like good character arcs, solid writing, class dynamics, queer representation, found family dynamics, good communication, couples that stay together and persevere as a team, and lovable dorks, this show was wonderful and it holds up.

AND IT LET TEN KEEP HIS GLASSES ON THE WHOLE WAY THROUGH!!

✨️ Top 9 First Watched Shows/Movies of 2023 ✨️

In no particular order:

#1. Word of Honor: I was finally pushed to watch this show after seeing screenshots and fantastic fan art pop up on my twitter for weeks and I was not disappointed. Is the plot a bit of a clusterfuck? Yes. Are the characters fantastic? Yes. Does it push the hell out of the censorship boundaries? YEAH. Did it inspire me to read Qi Ye and Tian Ya Ke which have both become some of my favorite books? YES.

#2. Kinnporsche: Part of my reintroduction to BL and my introduction to Thai BL in general. Mad respect for Mile for seeking out Apo to play the love interest; that's dedication lol. I still haven't rewatched the show, despite how fantastic it is, because I don't think I'll be able to recapture the absolute DELIGHT I felt seeing it for the first time but I'll revisit it soon.

#3. Kingdom: Y'all know how much I love good Korean horror and Kingdom DELIVERED. It's fast-paced, it's fun, it's dramatic. The twists aren't necessarily groundbreaking but the execution of them is solid. The emotional stakes are very much there; I was glued to my screen from start to finish. (Netflix please give me season 3, please I'm begging).

#4. The Rise of Phoenixes: I won't scream about this show because I could go on forever. I didn't think I was one for long political dramas until I watched this and it rewired my brain. Ni Ni and Chen Kun are phenomenal and the behind the scenes footage really showcases how much hardwork they put in to embody Feng Zhiwei and Ning Yi. (Also THE CHEMISTRY). Every crew member also put in 110%, the attention to historical detail and the level of craftsmanship that went into this show blows my mind. THEY USED MINIATURES!!! I feel like you hardly see that anymore! Just check out my quick review for more plot stuff and also the BTS videos on Youtube! Not all of them are subtitled but still well-worth checking out.

#5. Skinamarink: So glad I managed to catch this at a local theater. Unsettling, fairly unique in its execution, and it stuck with me for days after. If you're not into a slow build or found footage style horror, you won't enjoy this but it's definitely one of my favorite movies of 2023.

#6. OldBoy: The local theater came in clutch again by showing the remastered version of Oldboy, which I hadn't seen yet and didn't know anything about despite it being one of my boyfriend's favorite films lol, and I LOVE THIS MOVIE. It features one of my all-time favorite villains to date and it left me totally gutted at the end. If you haven't seen it yet, GO IN BLIND. It's well worth it, trust me.

#7. Playboyy - the series isn't finished yet but I feel confident sticking it on this list because, so far, it's blown my expectations out of the water. I've spoken about how much I enjoy the nuanced take on sex work, sexuality, and relationships but I don't think I've raved enough about how visually appealing the show it to watch! I'm a sucker for surrealistic imagery and atmosphere and Playboyy really does hit the sweet spot between real and dreamlike.

#8. Spider-Man: Across The Spiderverse - THIS MOVIE. The animation was fantastic, the story, the characters. NOT TO MENTION THE SOUNDTRACK! This was a great film to watch in theaters. You can really tell how much love and attention went into every detail.

#9. Double Mints - Shoutout to the person on tumblr who made a screenshot compilation of this movie! It compelled me to seek it out. I wouldn't say it's a good film but I love a toxic, codependent relationship and this movie does that well. The concept is cool and I do love a character covered in blood, weeping which this movie also delivers in abundance. I rewatched it a few days ago for a gifset and I will no doubt watch it again soon lol

Nevermind about me being able to be so sorry for no one not being able to catch all of the parts that mention the movie in last night's episode of this season's finale of American Idol to be able to get all of the sneak peaks of the movie during this season's finale of American Idol based on how it just says from my last post way before it was too late that we missed it from when it was the very start of introducing the movie, etc. of this segment of the said episode of the show of that season to the very end of when it the segment was over for good way before it comes back to the normal part of the show of when it cuts to another commercial that was not Pixar's Elemental at all, etc. for last night, Sunday, May/21st/2023 (The day before yesterday was great, and yesterday was fine, but I wonder what else for all of the stuff that they have for us today, May/22nd/2023 besides the sneak peek from the movie in last night's of this season's finale of American Idol from the following time 👇) all starting at 8 : 00 P. M. Eastern Time/5 : 00 P. M. Pacific Time? (I still wonder what all of the audience, all of the contestants, and all of the judges will all be able to think of this when they all see the sneak peek of the movie with us at home, or wherever we are watching it from, as for the characters from the movie, they might have been felt different feels like nervous, and all, but I am sure that they were being able to be just fine, I mean like I said, they got each other to support as friends, and they are each trying to make an effort in this dimension of ours besides from the movie having us to be able to be in thiers for what they can to be able to strut their stuff as their unique individual talent, and all as seen from the last post of mine for rehearsal practice the day before yesterday just like how they were being able to do it for real for last night at those times that I just mentioned in here, I mean it might have been the same as for when it was for Canada's Got Talent (If anyone still has the full version of this video, let us know, and we will be able to likey see it from there besides from doing the other segments that will be able to be belonging to such as The Little Halle Bailey Mermaid, and also for Indiana Jones, And The Dial Of Destiny if you skimmed through all of the commercials if you watched the show on dvr, besides you noticing that they might be able to be airing other ads in addition to the sneak peek, so make properly sure if all of the other spots are not new, or if they are new, and no not seriously of us either people should be able to not stop leaking these before their release date for the movie, but in the case of the own studio, yes please seriously do leak by airing different never before seen ones!), but it might be able to work out fine at the end like how they were going to be able to do this for yesterday's season finale of American Idol which I hope that the judges will still be able to try to get a chance to watch the movie besides from all of the audience, and all of the people that were in the episode do the same), besides I think that I just got all of these 👇 from the host trying his best to being able to be talking to Clod, Ember Lumen, and Wade Ripple who are sitting in the judge's chairs while cheering on the performance of this following 👇 (this is the first ever time I hear this song, but it is not bad at all, since throughout the show, there were a lot of performances of the contestants, and all of the other stuff that we can be able to check out in their YouTube channel, but I wonder what the song from 👇 has to do with the movie), but I do not think that he can yet, but who knows maybe he will be able to some way somehow some time some day! :

#pixar elemental #elemental

I figured I'd ask cause I've been following you for a while and you post transformers every so often, and I'm finally caving and want to check it out. So I'm curious what you might recommend to start at? (Cartoon-specifc)

Oh boy, okay SO this really depends on what exactly you're looking for in a show, so I'm gonna give you a variety to choose from.

The Transformers/G1: It's silly!! A fun Saturday morning cartoon that doesn't take itself too seriously. The Autobots and Decepticons, caught in their millions year long civil war, crash land on Earth and continue their battles. This is just a vehicle for Shenanigans to happen. You WILL get whiplash from how quickly the first episode changes scenes. 3 full seasons total, season 2 is the best one imo. You can watch it for free on Tubi.

Transformers Animated: not AS silly but still light-hearted. A fun cast with some of the best human characters in the franchise and a great overarching plot. Basically throws out the "in disguise" part and makes the bots heroes in futuristic Detroit. Some of my FAVORITE versions of these characters. 3 seasons and SHOULD'VE had a fourth but Hasbro killed it (something of a running theme in the franchise as a whole). You can watch it for free on Tubi.

Transformers Prime: a more serious take on the franchise that still manages to keep some levity. Small teams of Autobots and Decepticons (lead by Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively) continue their civil war in secret on Earth, vying for control of the energy rich planet. Absolutely STELLAR 3D animation and good character designs. A take on Cybertronian culture that has influenced so much of what has come after it. Middle of the pack human characters, /I/ think they're fine but a lot of people don't. 3 seasons and a TV movie, also got cut short. Season 1 is available on Netflix and the rest is for free on Tubi.

Transformers Cyberverse: I love Cyberverse to bits. Poppy art style that’s pleasing to the eye with a good mix of the 3D animation and 2D effects. I was gonna describe the plot until I realized that uh, it changes? Autobots vs Decepticons, except when it isn’t. Really has fun with the setting of Cybertron (once they get there), and is one of the few series that actually go PAST the war. 3 seasons and season 4 was two tv movie specials. Killed too soon. The only down side is that the episodes 15 minutes or so. I love this show so much. You can watch it for free on YouTube.

Transformers Rescue Bots: actually one of the best shows in the franchise and I am being 100% serious. A team of first responder bots have to team up with a family of first responders and keep the island of Griffin Rock safe while posing as highly advanced non-sentient robots. It's the baby show. Completely new cast of characters with some guest appearances from the heavy hitters (Optimus Prime and Bumblebee). The BEST human main and side characters. There's a musical episode. I honestly love this show so so so much please don't let the art style fool you it's SO GOOD. The only series to get 4 seasons and they are WELL. DESERVED. Also it takes place at the same time and in the same continuity as Prime, which will never not be funny to me. Season 1 is on Netflix, seasons 3 and 4 are available for free on The Roku Channel, but I can’t find anywhere to watch season 2. But, well, there are ways around that.

Transformers Beast Wars: listen. LISTEN. This is the best show in the franchise. Bar none. Look past the goofy late 90′s cg animation. Yes its fun to make fun of but eventually you stop paying attention to that because the show is just THAT. GOOD. Two ships, one full of Maximals and the other full of Predacons (the descendants of Autobots and Decepticons, respectively) are sent back in time and crash land on prehistoric Earth. GREAT characters, wonderful story, introduces SO many things that are still used in the series to this day. I love Beast Wars with literally all of my heart. It’s available for free on Tubi.

Honorable Mention: Transformers Earthspark. This is only an honorable mention because season 1 isn’t even finished yet but what we have of it so far is VERY good. Great characters, wonderful animation, great music, and a lot of promise going forward. I’m so excited to see where this is gonna go.

Louis Tomlinson Cooks is here!! Yeah it’s 100% for sure as delightful to watch Louis make himself a sandwich as you might have hoped, but how was his cooking? Well I’ll let Louis rate himself-- “I’m not gonna lie not that appetizing is it, I mean look at it,” he says when it comes time to taste his creation, plus, “chopping peeling slicing not great to be fair- everything else I’m all right” (he’s… not wrong, even aside from the peeler issues has this man ever held a knife??) but- “it probably tastes nice though as I said it’s not about presentation for me… [munches cutely]... it’s actually pretty banging, that’s actually quite nice!” Success! Maybe it’s cause he knows the secret to faking good cooking- “as you can see I don’t have a lot of cooking ability so the more butter the better,” I mean the experts can tell you, that’s advanced stuff right there! #Louis-aChild! Substituting mustard and ketchup for coleslaw is a bit of a bold move, but in a belated attempt to convince the kiddos to eat some healthy veg even though he won’t he does bravely try the cucumber strips despite being “not really a man for cucumber” and makes a pained attempt to be positive- “bit of crunch.” Oh and speaking of crunch I’m relieved to have learned that the waffle is NOT a waffle, it’s a crispy waffle shaped bit of potato; a much more reasonable fish sandwich addition than the American version of a potato waffle! Full Time Meals polled to see what people think of Louis cooking; the two choices are “it was amazing” and “the best,” THEY GET IT. My kind of Louis poll! Helen Seamons rated him a “10/10 for effort and entertainment”, Masterchef acknowledged Louis as one of their own, and Marcus Rashford keeps it simple- “my guy” with a lil heart. YEAH, SAME.

Harry showed up in Italy, where he was papped in Venice being driven around (with PA Luis) on a boat (as you do, in Venice). He’s in a cool embroidered Bode shirt and shades and fancy hair, looking good. He’s seen carrying his suitcase, taking photos, and resting his head on his arms looking like a model. One might think, since we just saw the My Policeman cast and crew on set celebrating the wrap of the shoot, that they were done filming and Harry was off to do something different, but nope, he’s there to film! The book has key scenes in Venice that folks had been wondering about the filming of, and David Dawson is also being boated around Venice for the paps, so, it seems that was just for the wrap of the *UK* filming, which makes sense I guess since it would mostly be different crew I imagine, and perhaps some of the main cast are done as well.

Liam’s NFT sale is happening tomorrow! If you’re confused and want more info, I’M NOT GONNA HELP THAT MUCH… uh but I mean you can check out Liam’s youtube video explaining though I would guess that won’t help much (even Liam thinks so; “there’s probably websites that explain a lot better than me” he admits). There is a roundup now posted of what’s on offer for the buyers of the NFTs but I’m gonna be really honest with you, I’m more confused now than I was before. It’s clear that there are only SIX LONELY BUG NFTs right? They for sure said that I believe. But the packages for each different piece (token bundles) seem to me like they’re available to multiple buyers? Like maybe you don’t get the NFT but multiple top bidders on each get the extras? Like they can’t be selling multiple copies of the NFT... can they?! Isn’t the WHOLE POINT that only one person gets to own it? I DON’T FUCKING KNOW I AM SORRY. What I think I understand to be true: the six NFT buyers get to go to “a once-in-a-lifetime immersive dining experience at Resorts World Las Vegas” (this is the dinner with Liam and “a selection of crypto leaders from around the world” which takes place on display inside a giant glass box) and also “a bespoke commemorative presentation box containing the world’s leading holographic display... with audio... and a custom made Lonely Bug commemorative coin,” and “a unique QR code directing the owner to a special ‘Director’s Cut’ edit of the short digital film ‘Making Of Lonely Bug Collection’ which features unreleased footage from the day of the drop showing the creators' reactions when the winning bids came in” (I mean YEAH I would think it’s unreleased it literally hasn’t happened?) But then there are really a lot of other extras including tickets with Meet & Greet access to any Liam Payne headline show around the world, admission to pool and cinema parties in Vegas with Liam, signed art, non-Liam extras (I will literally bid to NOT have 20 minute phone calls with those crypto entrepreneurs PLEASE… but that’s just me), and access to an online party hosted by Liam; I really get the impression many of these, especially the last one, are just crypto tokens that are for sale that aren’t linked to the main Lonely Bug NFTs and many more than 6 people can buy them but a lot of the extras I’m not clear on which it is. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll understand better WE WILL SEE.

Liam also dropped by the discord last night to say some hellos (after a “long long day”) and that he “bought a piece of NFT art of myself tonight I’m going to give it as a prize Monday night so someone can own a piece of art that was owned by me” (an even less tangible bragging point than simply owning an NFT wow that’s an achievement) and the most important update- “I want a French Bulldog”! Oh and he said “that’s like one I did myself” in his fanart channel to a pic of a tiny crocheted illustration of Louis and Harry holding up a rainbow flag. Didya Liam?? (...Liam is crocheting??) Anyway I recognize who it’s supposed to be because it’s based on a familiar piece of fanart, but Liam definitely might NOT realize it’s meant to be someone specific, and tbh I’m more <eyeballs> at him saying that at the rainbow flag crocheted thing than at it being shippy.

Our Song acoustic version is out this Friday!! And Niall talked about NH3 some in an interview today; “I’m in the studio most days, it feels really good. I’m kinda in the latter stages of it and then I’ll go get a band together and go in and record the whole thing. I’ve just kind of been writing for the past 9 or 10 months and really enjoying it” and “It sounds like a complete album. God knows when it’s coming out because I’d like to be able to get around the world to see all the fans as well” and “It’s different. It sounds a lot more grown up. I’m 27 so it’s about time. I really wanted to kinda cement a sound. The singles I’ve released previously have all been kinda different sounds. I would like to have my ballad sound & like a cemented uptempo sound.” He and Anne Marie also talked about one of the other songs they wrote together saying, “It’s kind of like a, how do you describe it- guitar driven meets Tom Petty meets Katy Perry meets…” but say “We haven’t really decided if we are putting it out yet, the conversations are kinda happening... but it’s completely different (from Our Song).”

• Kars seriously disapproves of this hobby of yours.

• Mostly because when he met you he was under the impression that you were smarter than to even attempt half of the things you do for "fun".

• Once he found out that your idea of a good time was riding a bike down a rocky mountain at full speed or dangling from the edge of a cliff from a rope like a spider, he was sure you were crazy.

• Perhaps Humans really have regressed after all...

• Just because he could vault himself off a cliff without a care in the world or thought of bodily harm doesn't mean that you, a fragile little Human, should as well.

• If you insist that you're fine because of all the precautions you take when going out to do something risky, it does little to ease him.

• Initially, he tries to forbid you from going out and doing such dangerous things but you offered for him to come along anytime and supervise; which he ended up accepting.

• He'll admit that he feels a little better when he's at least with you just in case anything happens.

• "Isn't this great?" You laugh, peering back to glance at your mate (whom you were strapped to) as you dangled from the base of the cliff by your abs. "Just look at that view!"

• Kars couldn't be bothered to even try to enjoy the sunset scene far, far below when he was laying parallel in the air like this.

• If you wanted to watch the sunset, why not just stand upright ON the cliff?

• "When do we get to the fun part?" He sighed, his underlying bitterness only making you laugh. "This IS the fun part!"

• Should you happen to hurt yourself on any of your solo excursions you can at least always count on him to patch you up when you get Home.

• Showing up with a few scrapes and bruises here and there doesn't bother him very much but if you ever end up breaking a bone, prepare for a scolding of a lifetime.

• He will not let you do anything even close to risky until you are fully healed and from that moment on he makes it clear that he's accompanying you on ALL of your trips and supervising the scene.

• It's kind of funny, in a way he has fallen right into your trap; spending more quality time with you rather than staying cooped up in his office doing work all the time.

Esidisi:

• It takes Esidisi as a surprise when he finds out about your little hobbies.

• He never realized that doing such risky, heart palpatiating stunts was considered enjoyable to some Humans.

• His curiosity piqued, you'll find yourself dragging him along to one of your most favourite activities so he can watch and maybe try his hand at it.

• You've created a monster.

• An adrenaline pumped, 7ft tall, inhuman, older than dirt monster.

• He LOVES this sport. The sights, heights, the high-speed action, the spine tingling, the rushing going to his head; HE LOVES IT.

• It all puts a much hotter fire burning in his blood.

• Soon, he starts dragging YOU along to watch HIM do extremely risky activities and stunts.

• Like watching him bungee jump off the tallest building in the country while chugging 2 energy drinks at the same time as he records the whole thing for YouTube.

• Despite his newfound love for the most extreme of extreme, he's also content to just spend some time doing simpler risky activities like white-water rafting or rock climbing with you.

• If he ever gets injured (no matter how bad) it doesn't bother him in the slightest of course.

• However, if you get seriously hurt on the other hand, it sends all kinds of alarm bells off for him.

• He thinks that maybe he's to blame and that he's been a bad influence on you and your mortality.

• "IT'S MY FAULT!!! IT'S ALL MY FAULT!!!" Esidisi sobbed loud enough that his voice rang off the Hospital walls. Endless rivulets of hot tears left your shirt absolutely soaked where he clung to you like a limplet in the bed.

• You could only sigh, your gaze peering past the dense curls of the floof of his hair blocking your vision to your propped up leg and the clean white cast that had just been put on it.

• "Esidisi, this is NOT your fault." You told him, hands instinctively going to rub his back as the tears kept coming and coming. "I should've checked the tire on my bike before driving it down that hillside, it was just an accident. It's just a broken leg."

• (*bike crash* Fred voice: MY LEG!!!)

• Thankfully, his tears ebb when you tell him that he can sign your cast.

• He might even offer to take you across the world to sight see and do some more thrilling activities to make up for it when you're all healed if you're up for the adventure.

Wamuu:

• All of this started when Wamuu noticed that you had a bunch of strange gear in storage.

• When he asked you why you needed so many helmets and ropes and knee and elbow pads, you happily indulged him about your adrenaline seeking hobbies and how you liked to jump off cliffs.

• You definitely have some more explaining to do.

• Admittedly it takes Wamuu a good few minutes to wrap his head around it all.

• "So... you do all of these dangerous things... for a thrill?" He questioned, eyebrows knitted together. "To prove yourself?"

• As you nodded, grinning hugely, he realizes that he shares a similar trait by fighting worthy opponents in the arena.

• The most brutal, sweat inducing, heart pounding fights gave him great tenacity and you experienced the very same when climbing somewhere high or going fast.

• He wants to try this with you.

• Next thing he knows he's all geared up with a helmet and a harness and a rope, standing at the bottom of a HUGE Rockwall.

• "First one to the top wins," was all you said before starting to climb as fast as you could with the Warrior right behind you, a fierce gleam in his eye and a fang revealing grin.

• Though keeping mindful of your safety, he likes to challenge you and both of you find yourselves often pushing each other's limits.

• Who could climb the fastest? Row the fastest? Bike the fastest? Set up camp the fastest?

• If you happen to hurt yourself while playing your thrill little games together he's always prepared and will most definitely put a bandage on you when needed.

• Even Wamuu knows that the Hello Kitty ones heal the best.

• If you're ever unfortunate enough to do yourself enough damage to break something, that care shown for you doesn't change.

• In fact, he commends you for being so strong and will praise you even more when you talk about jumping right back into it when you're properly healed again.

• He won't let you go anywhere until that day comes though, no matter how up to the challenge you think you are.

• All in all, your determination and your fiery spirit is what makes him absolutely adore you afterall.

Santana:

• Like many things he faces, Santana is quite indifferent to heart-stopping stunts.

• It was no surprise really, he was an apex lifeform; there was nothing that could do him harm and he had faced many dangerous things in his life alone so there wasn't much that got his heart pounding.

• However his curiosity is piqued when he learns that you deliberately partook in risky activities just for the fun of it all.

• Be prepared for many questions as to what exactly you enjoyed doing and the benefit of doing it for you.

• If you should ask him to accompany you on an activity, he won't say no but he prefers to observe you rather than partake himself.

• He views every outing with you as a learning experience.

• He gets to learn all about the activity, its History and any gear you happen to bring along and then watch the ins and outs of it all first hand as you and maybe a few other Humans do it.

• He finds it interesting that Humans would take such risks when they are already the most fragile and flawed race in existence.

• He wasn't sure whether it was carelessness or maybe just plain not realizing your own mortality.

• If you happen to coax him into actually gearing up and doing an activity with you, don't expect any major reaction on his part when you get there.

• Whether it's skydiving, rock-climbing, white water rafting, poking a sleeping bear with a stick, you name it; you can't quite piece together what's going on in that head of his.

• He just looks almost bored the entirety of the time.

• "YEAHHHHH!!!" You squealed with glee, the air whistling in your ears as wind all around you whipped and whirled, plummeting straight from the sky.

• Santana was dead silent, arms folded and practically glaring at the ground where it sat miles upon miles away below you both.

• The only thing he was looking forward to after the parachute chord was pulled and his feet was on solid ground again was going to grab a bite to eat...

• However, while the activity doesn't, any injuries you happen to sustain from doing them spark a reaction in Santana.

• He doesn't like seeing you hurt, no matter how minor it is.

• That being said, the chances of you getting seriously hurt are very, very low with Santana always on watch while you're off having fun.

• If he has to, he'll throw himself under you and let his body go to rubber to give you a soft landing and prevent you from breaking something.

• All in all, he doesn't really mind your extreme hobbies. You alone give him a thrill by teaching him much new things.

Happy 20th Anniversary Robots In Disguise!

This year, and today in particular, marks the 20-year anniversary of Transformers Robots in Disguise airing in the United States.  This was the official English language dub of the Japanese show Transformers Car Robots, which aired in Japan the year before.   This show and it’s accompanying toy line were a big shift in the Transformers brand and affected how things moved forward in the new millennium.  It was also a big influence on me and this website in it’s early years, so both the brand and TFW2005 may not be what it is today without it.

Intro

The following is not a comprehensive article on the show proper, but rather a trip down memory lane from my personal perspective.  It was a period of change in my life, in the fandom, in the brand, and in the world – all happening at once.  Robots in Disguise was smack dab in the middle of it all and I think that’s why it still resonates with me all these years later.  For a deeper dive into the world of Robots In Disguise you can check RIDForever.info, a site I maintain just about RID and Car Robots. The 2021 updates are here, and the 2017 round of updates are here.  I’d also suggest checking the TFWe issue all about RID over on the 2005 Boards.  Now, onto today’s festivities…

The Show

RID, and yes I say RID as if it is the only RID.  If you must reference that other RID show and it’s off-shoots, refer to it as RID 201x, thanks. 😊 RID aired during the Fox Kids programming block on a Saturday morning, with additional episodes set to air each weekday during the afternoon hours.  Instead of stretching the show out over the course of 30+ weeks with only a new ep each weekend, they were going to blaze through it non-stop.  By the end of the first week, we would have been 7 eps in.  That however hit a big roadblock due to 9/11 just three days later.  While some local markets did air the episodes, many larger city networks, and especially east coast markets, stuck with news coverage.   Many of us did not catch the early episodes on TV the first go around.  In addition, several of the episodes got pulled from TV due to depictions of buildings being destroyed and other similar visuals which understandably could upset children that just experienced 9/11.  So right off the bat, the new millennium and new era of Transformers were dealing with a new reality.

The show, for those that don’t know – was a weird one-off in Transformers history.  We had G1 and then the G2 remixes for a bit.  Beast Wars came on the scene and ran all the way through 2000 with it’s successor – Beast Machines.   During the Beast Wars era – Japan did a couple of their own Beast Wars shows, non-CGI extensions of what we saw in the US.   Their market wasn’t quite ready for full CGI so they stuck with traditional anime.  When Hasbro decided to continue Beast Wars into Beast Machines, Takara went a completely different way – a traditional animated show which brought back Autobots and “Decepticons”, mixing them in with the beasts.  They focused the toys on a couple new and complex molds, then filled the rest of the line with repaints of previous toys.  Old 2nd tier Beast Wars toys, G2 Laser Prime, and even some Generation 1 molds in the form of the Combaticons got new life as new characters in this show, capped with the biggest TF of them all at the time – a repainted G1 Fortress Maximus, now Brave Maximus.  It was the prototype for what the Transformers brand did for years to come – repainting old toys into new characters.  Universe, Classics, Botcon, and even some Generations runs used this method to give us some great toys in the 00s.

While there is a very complicated and long explanation for how every single Japanese show is one continuity, to someone casually starting with Car Robots it was a refresh, a new story, a new arrival on Earth.  The Autobots vs the Predacons, and eventually the Combatrons/Decepticons. It was a hard cut from the last 5 years or so of CGI Beasts.  Hand drawn traditional animation featuring vehicle Transformers.  It wasn’t G1, but many of the folks who grew up with G1 were just getting out of college around this time.  They were rediscovering their childhood love of Transformers through Beast Wars, flea market finds, raids on their parents’ attics and basements, and for the internet savvy – imports of Japanese reissues from Takara.  It was a perfect storm of nostalgia; a return to Autobots and Decepticons was welcomed by kids and adults alike.

RID and TFW2005

In the years leading up to Car Robots, I was just getting into the internet, coding, design, some digital music, and all the possibility that came with it.  Beast Wars, especially when it hit Season 2/3 and the inclusion of G1 lore, really got me focusing on Transformers again as a hobby.  I eventually combined the two newfound hobbies into one and Transformer World 2005 was born.  At no point did I ever think it would last 20+ years and take over my life in the way it did.  I started the full version of TFW2005 around April 2000, with some starts and stops before that.  That was right around when Car Robots started airing in Japan.  Through the magic of 56k internet, I was able to connect with folks in Japan and get them to send me VHS tapes of Car Robots.  Really nice, high-quality tapes too, I still have them hehe.  To the younglings reading – try to picture this: no youtube, no video sharing. The concept of streaming anything did not exist yet. Napster and the eventual peer to peer stuff hadn’t fully kicked off.  Plus, we were all viewing the internet on giant computers in our rooms at the speed of 1x on your phone.  Less than 1 bar 3G mobile speeds today.

Yes, someone recorded episodes from TV to video tape over there, did that a couple weeks at a time, then physically mailed them across the world to me, who then got them on the internet.  Can you imagine waiting weeks to watch an episode of TV the size of a twitter profile avatar?  Crazy.  Uploading a full episode to the internet was a big pain in the ass, not easily done.  I decided to get a converter that allowed me to plug my VCR into the computer and encode the tape into digital format.  From there, it was reduced using Microsoft’s WMV technology so that the episodes were about 5 MB each.  30 minute episodes at 5MB each. Dimensions – 176 x 144 pixels.  4k video today – 3840 x 2160 pixels.  You can imagine that video looked like crap.  But we didn’t care – we were blown away.  Old school animation, vehicles, some cool Japanese anime vibes, it was what we as G1 fans kinda had in the back of our heads on what Transformers should be in a new era, and we were seeing it.  Most of us had no clue what they were saying or what was going on.  Also didn’t care.  I still to this day think CR/RID is better like that.

So one of the first things TFW2005 did on the internet was provide these super small windows into Car Robots and what was going on in Japan. It helped get US fans hyped up for what Transformers could be. It got us wanting the toys, and importers bringing the Takara toy line over were moving serious product.  It helped swing Hasbro, who was planning to return to Autobots and Decepticons again down the road, to move that schedule up.  Instead of running Beast Machines until 2002 and then starting what we now know as the Unicron Trilogy, it was cut short.  Robots in Disguise as a toy line and show came over in 2001, ran fast and hard for a year with non stop releases, got extended because it did so well, and then faded into the Universe line of repaints.  The new millennium of Transformers was here and Robot In Disguise kicked it off with a bang.

Wrap Up

As we all continue with collecting Transformers now, regardless if you tagged into the fandom during G1, Beasties, the Unicron Trilogy, the Movies, or just yesterday – let’s take the time to give Car Robots and RID some props!  It set the tone for what the new millennium of the brand would be.  It gave us some toys ahead of their time.  It solidified the repaint as an accepted thing in the hobby. And it gave us one crazy 39 episode run of TV that’s still a fun ride 20 years later.

Epilogue

If someone over there at Hasbro is reading – can someone please figure out who owns the rights to the show in the US market and then get it out on DVD in full, finally?  Work all that funky licensing stuff out (if there is any) and get it done.  The US has never had access to it via an official release.  Maybe get it up on YouTube like G1?  Something.  Announcing plans for that before the end of 2021 would be a nice 20th anniversary tribute.

Writing Challenge - Fluff

“You did this all for me?” - Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Following the faint sound of mumbled words come from your boyfriend, you quietly tiptoed into the room to be met with a set up of blankets and pillows (way more than usual) laid out in an assortment on your king bed, paired with a few simple petals scattered around and a bowl of popcorn nestled in the middle. A slight breeze swept across your bare arm as you walked towards the balcony where the doors were pinned open, revealing the golden, amber glowing summer sunset of Liverpool where a few bottles of bubbly sat still in a bucket of ice beside the two clear wine glasses, a note lying in front of them reading, “you deserve this” in your boyfriend’s scribbly handwriting.

Noticing the bathroom light was on, you quietly slipped out of your hated work clothes before quickly shoving on a pair of joggers and a plain white T-shirt, courtesy of your boyfriend, that was hanging nicely in the wardrobe waiting to be worn. Fixing your head into the messiest bun ever seen, you let out a whispered giggle, still hearing your the constant string of grumbled words being spoken from the bathroom as you inched closer to the connected en-suite, only to find him rifling through the contents of the cabinet in search of something.

A soft grin found your lips as you caught a glimpse of him in the mirror, your eyes traced his body as his trackies hung dangerously low on his hips with his torso bare leaving his toned abs and trained muscles on full display while his chocolate curls, loose and messy, fell over his forehead as a few strands covered his mesmerising hazel eyes.

The look of slight frustration washed over his perfect facial features as he continued to pull apart the entire cupboard, emptying all your skincare products from each shelf and reading all the labels on them, still having no look in finding what he was after. A few curses leaving him as he let out a sigh of defeat, you biting your lip to hide your very much evident smirk.

“Surely they’re here somewhere, I just want the face masks” he whined, still unaware of your presence as he sat on the bath edge with a huff, “bottom shelf in the first basket” you laughed, making him jump slightly as his face lit up, turning to face you. “What are you up to Dominic?” you smiled as his arms found their way round your waist, resting comfortably on your hips as you looped yours over his shoulders, a hand automatically going to his hair, twirling your fingers through his irresistible twisted curls.

“You aren’t supposed to be home yet Mrs” he grinned as you shrugged, feeling kind of bad for ruining his surprised plan he had lined up for you, “I finished early for a change...I was expecting to come home to a night by the tv with some Netflix series, not all this” you said, tracing patterns along his veiny arms, him cutting you off with a small kiss to the lips, you sinking deeper and deeper into it and only pulling away to gain back a breath.

“so are you going to tell me why you’re after my face masks then? Finally admitting we need a skincare routine are we...” you joked as he just chuckled heartily, his eyes glistening with love, “me, never? My skin’s perfect, soft as a baby’s bum. No need for all these products” he proudly said, stroking his cheek, which was like he said, the softest, most gorgeous, glowing skin someone can have...are you jealous, very much so.

“Saying that, I do love a good face mask...especially if it’s those watermelon flavoured ones you buy” he hinted towards the tub as you jokingly rolled your eyes, going over to pick it before placing it on the counter. You hopped up to sit on the cool surface before reaching your arms out to him. Listening to your silent pleas, he stepped closer to stand between your thighs as his hands settled on you.

“Ahhh god you’d think it’d been in the fridge or something” he winced, feeling the liquid touch his skin as you pasted a thin layer across his cheek and little dab on his nose. “Bloody baby” your laughs faded through the air as he puckered his lips in a silly fashion, “stay still then” you placed a hand on his chest as your legs wrapped around his waist to stop him wriggling from your grip. “Right all done, now don’t you dare smudge it Calvert-Lewin, I’m watching” you narrowed your eyes to him in a joke form as he was quick to take your hand and lead you back through to your bedroom.

The cutest smile tugged at the corners of your lips seeing the heavenly scene once again, really taking in all the extra little details this time, your heart melting to trouble he went to all for you. With another kiss to the lips, he hooked his arms underneath your thighs to lift you onto the perfectly set up bed, the rose petals surrounding you as his body shadowed over yours, his iconic butterfly chain dangling down and the scent of his cologne strong against your nose

"I am madly in love with you, you know that right” you mumbled in between all his sweet kisses as he hummed a reply against your body, a playful smirk resting to your face as your hands worked magic, trailing over his abs, moving lower and lower till you hit the waistband of his pants. Shifting to take off your oversized tee, you soon stopped his actions and pushed him back slightly. “If you think I’m getting face mask all over this top and the clean sheets you can forget it” you giggled, leaving him frustrated as ever, “are you sure it isn’t time to take them off yet” he giggled in a hope as you shook your head, “afraid not love”.

“Ok then, while we wait...lay down” he smirked as you placed yourself comfortably on your back, your hands resting on your tummy as he shuffled to the bottom of the bed, “foot massage m’lady?” he asked as you eagerly nodded, feeling like all your prayers had been answered, “I know how much those heels kill your feet”

Instantly relaxing into his touch, your eyes closed as he kneaded your foot in the perfect way, all the stress leaving your tensed muscles as you enjoyed his hands and their magic feel roam to your legs before he began rubbing them in circles.

“And where did you learn to do that eh?” you softly spoke, shifting to sit up as he shrugged, “I have my ways...YouTube tutorials are also a great help” he laughed as you sat on his lap, an abundance of kisses coming your way as his hands slid up the back of you shirt and he pulled your closer. “I’m so lucky to have you” you smiled into his mouth, “no I’m the lucky one, thank you my darling” he relied in affection as yous once again took a breather, your foreheads resting against one another’s.

“You really did this all for me” you whispered to him as one of his hands left your thighs to push a strand of loose hair behind your ear, “it’s the least I could do for you...so should we go take these face masks off and crack open the bottle of champagne that’s screaming to be opened”

Obviously, because of the (Inaccurate) historical relevance of both movies (Different time’s, same terrible prejudice,) and also because there is definitely a very cult-ish feel about both Governor Ratcliffe’s song and Buckman’s leadership. How easily they’re able to gather support from their people for the most horrible reasons. How horrifying it is to audiences and historians.

Norma is soooooo so so so unbelievably manipulative towards Norman (And Dylan. It just works better on Norman) and this song absolutely presents that. She can go from sweet, loving mother to spiteful, heinous bitch in two seconds if Norman or Dylan don't do what or react the way she wants them to.

She didn't know she was teaching Jason to be the Crystal Lake killer like Zira did, but she did, and the whole song does have her kind of feel to it also.

"Hi everyone!" you whispered excitedly at the camera. "And welcome back to my channel! I have to whisper because Jaehyun is downstairs and I don’t want him to hear my intro," you explained before turning the camera around and pointing it down your staircase towards your living room. Your boyfriend was facing away from you on the couch and you zoomed in on the back of his luscious head of hair before you tiptoed back into your bedroom. "Anyway," you continued to whisper, "today is a special day! Why is it special you may ask? Well it’s because I'm going to be doing yet another--," you paused for dramatic effect and took a moment to bring your face close to the lens so your lips took up most of the frame, "--PRANK.” You pulled away from the camera and shook your head in offense at how much that last word hurt while whispering. “Hold on. Let me move again.”

You moved to sit on the floor inside your closet. But it wasn't that big, so you ended up trapped in a corner with some of the clothes you had hanging up dangling in your face. “So many of you have requested that I do the 'I can’t stop kissing you prank' and I figured now would be the perfect opportunity since Jaehyun has come to visit me for the weekend.” A sound bite of applause and cheers played as clapping hands emojis appeared on the screen with a burst of confetti. “I’ve already set up the camera downstairs and it’s currently recording Jaehyun playing Mario Kart. His favorite game these days. Well, his only favorite game because that’s all he ever plays.” You rolled your eyes dramatically with the matching emoji appearing next to your head. “And we have a special treat! You remember our close friend Yuta from my vlogs, right?” Just then the thirst-trappiest picture of Yuta you could find on his Instagram popped up in the corner of the screen. “Well, he’ll be calling during the middle of the prank to ask Jaehyun something complicated whilst I slobber him down.” You rapidly flicked your tongue between your lips as if you were a lizard and accentuated the sound it made. “It’s going to be great!” In your excitement you raised up your arm and accidentally hit the stack of shoe boxes next to you, causing one of them to come tumbling down with a loud thump on your head and then one on the floor. “Shit, ow!” you cursed under your breath.

“Babe?” Your boyfriend called to you from downstairs. The audio of his voice was low, therefore subtitles were placed onto the screen whenever he spoke. “Is that you?”

“Yeah!” you answered him while making a nervous face at the camera. “I’m just changing clothes!”

“Oh, okay--MOVE PEACH!”

You rolled your eyes again and exaggerated the deep breath you took before addressing the audience one last time. “Let’s start this prank before he comes up here to check on me.”

With an old school static transition, the video cut to a front view of Jaehyun sitting on the couch with you descending the staircase in the distance behind him before coming into full view of the camera. You sat down on the couch next to Jaehyun and wrapped your arms around his neck, startling both him and your puppy who was laying between you, and who seemed to forget your existence whenever Jaehyun visited. 

“Oh, hey babe. How was your nap?” he said, pausing the game to fully greet you.

“It was alright. I woke up because you weren’t lying next to me anymore.” Ew! How were you able to say that with a straight face?! It had always amazed you how sappy you got when the two of you were together. You forced a pout onto your lips before hugging his upper body and moving your face to the crook of his neck to plant a soft kiss onto his exposed collarbone. He smelled like peppermint mixed with his unique man musk. 

“I almost woke you up,” he said as he let you kiss your way up from the base of his neck to just below his ear. 

“Oh, really. Why?” you said against his skin before nipping at the bottom of his earlobe.

“Because I missed having you next to me, too.”

You jerked your head back to look at him in mock disgust. “Jaehyun, you’re so freaking cheesy,” you said then went back to his neck and placed a loud wet kiss against his Adam's apple. “I appreciate the sentiment, but it just sounds so icky coming from you.” It was one thing when you did it, but when he did it it made your insides all gooey and gross. You hated that you loved it.

“But it's true.” He grabbed your chin with his thumb and forefinger and tilted your head backwards, allowing himself easy access to your lips. He gently pecked your lips and you revelled in the soft plumpness of his moisturized skin cells. He moved his hand to grab the side of your face to steady you as he deepened the kiss and his tongue swept across your lips, asking for permission to enter. But as soon as your tongues connected, your dog whined and climbed onto Jaehyun's lap, feeling left out from the attention, and thus breaking yours. 

Now that you had planted the initial kissing seed, it was time to move into phase two of your prank. “Do you want a snack, babe?” you asked him and stood up from the couch.

“Sure. Surprise me.”

Having previously set up the camera, the video cut to you walking into the kitchen, then to you opening the freezer, and then to you popping a plate of pizza rolls into the microwave. While they were heating, you walked over to the camera and pulled out your phone to send a quick text to Yuta telling him to commence the next part of your plan. When finished, you held up your phone to the camera and showed the exchange between you and your friend.

You: It’s your time to shine. 15 minutes.

Sir Yuta: I forgot I had to do this. Umm lemme search the internet and find something to call him about lmaooo

You: 🤦‍♀️

The video cut again to you placing the plate of pizza rolls and two bottled waters on the coffee table in front of Jaehyun right when he let out a shout of victory as his Metal Mario crossed the finish line in first place. 

“What cup was that?” you asked him, pretending to be interested.

“Flower cup, 200cc,” he said as he reached for a pizza roll without looking and ended up burning his finger on the hot snack. “Ow! It’s hot!”

“You knew that before you picked it up!”

Affronted by the pizza rolls, he grabbed one of the bottles of water and took a sip before returning his eyes to the screen. “Do you want to play?”

“Nope. I’ll just watch you play.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yep!”

You watched him customize his kart with some of the new items he had just unlocked before he selected a different cup to play. When the opening sequence of the first race began to play, you repositioned yourself on your knees on the couch cushion next to him and planted a kiss directly on his lips. You felt Jaehyun hum against your lips in satisfaction as he returned the kiss, but when he heard the countdown for the start of the race he quickly pulled back and moved his head to look around you at the TV.

But of course, that didn’t stop you. You forcefully grabbed him by his head and began kissing the spot just below his jaw that you knew drove him crazy. It was a relentless onslaught of teeth, tongue, and lips all at a slow, teasing, and torturous pace.

Believing that Jaehyun was already feeling totally affected, it was confirmed by the absence of noisy cartoon chaos from the race right before Jaehyun ripped you from his neck to counter your attack by shoving his tongue down your throat. The kiss was so heated the two of you had to be censored on the screen by a big blushing emoji. The video quickly cut to the end of the kiss, which lasted way longer than you had anticipated, to where Jaehyun was gently pushing you away from him. “Lemme finish this race and then we can make out or whatever afterwards.”

“Okay,” you agreed happily then popped a (now cold) pizza roll into your mouth.

You allowed him to play through a full race before you resumed your kisses, this time foregoing his neck to smooch him on his cheeks, nose, and anywhere else there was skin available on his face. You obviously prevented Jaehyun from seeing the TV screen and he quickly paused his game before he lost his first-place spot at the beginning of the second race. 

“Did you dream about me?” he asked you dumbfounded but still bearing a smile on his face. “Did I promise you all these kisses in the dream?”

You planted a kiss on each of his eyelids before shaking your head and looking him in his eyes. “I just love you.”

“I love you, too. But--”

You didn’t let him finish talking as you threw your leg over his lap to straddle his waist. You proceeded to kiss him hungrily on his lips, your tongues doing a dance once again as he kissed you back with gusto. You were overcome with a sense of satisfaction when you felt the thud of the pro controller hit the couch next to you (in which the video zoomed in on it as it was falling) and then both his arms wrapped around your waist. 

You revelled in his kisses, thankful that you had a boyfriend with soft, pillowy lips whose kisses you could get lost in for days if allowed. You were so into the makeout session that you forgot you were filming a video and the scene had to be censored once again with another big emoji and quickly cut to the next clip. Luckily, before the two of you got too crazy, Jaehyun’s phone began to ring with Yuta’s name lighting up the top of its screen.

“Noo, baby. Don’t answer it. Kiss me instead,” you genuinely whined for him to keep going. Yuta was a part of your plan but now you just wanted his attention to remain on you. 

Jaehyun removed your hand from his face and picked up his phone off the arm of the couch. “Hold on. It’s Yuta. Let me get rid of him, first.” You pouted at him as he swiped his thumb across the screen to answer the call. “Hey Yuta. I’m kind of in the middle—" You don’t know what was said exactly but you were able to hear Yuta’s tiny hysterics through the small phone speaker. “Wait slow down? When did you get a hamster?” asked Jaehyun in confused concern.

Was that really the best Yuta could come up with???

“Y/N is here, too. Let me put you on speaker.” He did so and held the phone next to your heads. “Okay, start from the beginning.”

Since Yuta’s story was bound to be dumb, you decided to up the hotness on your kissing. You grabbed Jaehyun's face with one hand and planted a kiss on his lips slightly less aggressively than the ones prior, but still pretty roughly.

Yuta’s words appeared as subtitles at the bottom of the screen since the camera’s mic couldn’t pick up his voice that well from the phone’s speaker. “I purchased a hamster the other day from the pet store down the street from my house. His name is Hamster--“ 

“Ow!” Jaehyun pulled you from his lips and gave you a displeased look. You had accidentally bitten his lips a bit too hard as a reaction to Yuta’s dumbass statement. You mouthed an apology to him before returning to nibble on his ear.

“Is everything okay?” asked Yuta.

“Yeah, keep going.” 

“Gladly.” You replied before sticking your tongue in his ear, causing him to flinch violently away from you in protest.

“Ew! Not you!” Jaehyun whispered harshly as he tried to wipe the inside of his ear with his shirt.

“Well, I was cleaning out his cage, but I think I forgot to secure him in his temporary cage and now he’s disappeared! I’m afraid to walk anywhere, so I need you to come over and help me find Hamster.”

“Umm, can’t you call Johnny or Taeyong or--” You started playing kiss tic tac toe with Jaehyun’s forehead.

“They didn’t answer their phones. Trust me you weren’t my first choice,” Yuta said flatly as if he was actually disappointed that he had to call Jaehyun for help.

You couldn’t help but laugh, and now you were trying to locate another PG-rated place to kiss Jaehyun.

“Yeah, I’ll come over.”

“Cool. Y/N can come too after she stops trying to suck your face. Y’all are gross.”

Jaehyun’s brows knit together in confusion. “How did you--” he began to ask, but you snatched his phone from his hand before he could finish his question.

“BYE, YUTA.” You hung up the call and tossed your boyfriend’s phone on the other side of the couch. “Now, where were we?” You leaned in to continue kissing him, but he dodged your lips by turning his face away from you. Your kiss landed on the side of his jaw instead.

“Hey, cool it, babe. Lemme finish this race and we can go to Yuta’s to help him find his hamster.” Obviously, Yuta’s lost (made up) pet wasn’t more important than finishing first place in the special cup on 200cc. He was just so competitive.

You grabbed his arms to thwart his attempts at resuming the game but he was quicker as he threw the controller down his shirt before grabbing your legs and gently tossing you on the other side of the couch. 

“Jaehyun!”

“Y/N!”

You turned your head and the video zoomed in on your eyes as you narrowed them at the camera before launching yet another kissing attack on Jaehyun. In doing so you knocked over two of the pizza rolls and the bottled waters while Metal Mario got hit with three red koopa shells in row.

“Babe, alright! Enough!”

Jaehyun never was one to get this perturbed, so seeing his distress was something new for you. He grabbed you by your thighs before standing up and hoisting you over his shoulders. “Let me give you what you want.”

“Wait no! Jae, stop! STOP! It’s a prank!” you yelled as you flailed helplessly in his grip.

“You can’t back out now--“

“No! Look behind the switch!”

“What?” He turned around completely to walk towards the camera, your butt now on full view as your front side faced the couch. He found the camera hidden behind the game console and picked it up while he lowered you back to your feet. He stared blankly into the lens as he tried to comprehend what had just happened between the two of you.

You swiped the camera from his hands and smiled triumphantly into the lens. “Hey, again everyone! I hope you enjoyed seeing Jaehyun lose his cool and literally THROW ME.”

Your boyfriend stood behind you, still void of emotion and staring into the camera. “You kissed me for a prank? And not because you wanted to?” Aw, no! Why did he sound so dejected?!

“Wait, no! I wanted to but...yeah?”

“I’m hurt.” He said while clutching his chest. Nooooooooo! A bunch of crying faced and heartbroken emojis appear sporadically on the screen.

“Why are you hurt? I was being annoying!”

“Yeah, but I was still into it.”

“We can continue what I started if you want to, babe.” Holding the camera with one hand, you reached out to him with the other to give him a one-armed hug, in which he returned unconsciously.

“No. I’m over it. Let’s go help Yuta.” You smiled at him mischievously and then looked back at the camera. “What?”

“That was part of the prank, too. Yuta was in on it. He doesn’t have a hamster.”

Jaehyun looked at the camera, then at you, and then back at the camera before walking away from you and sitting back on the couch. “I’ve been tricked,” he said absolutely flabbergasted.

You followed him to the couch with the camera and sat beside him, then linked your free arm with his. “Well, that’s it for today! Thanks for watching! I’m going to reheat our pizza rolls now and then I’ll kick his ass in Mario Kart.”

“You wish.”

“Give me a kiss, babe.” You puckered your lips for him, but Jaehyun had other plans of the revenge variety. He cornered you on the couch and put his big body on top of you as he placed sloppy wet kisses along your neck, causing you to shriek and drop the camera to the floor. The only thing visible on the screen was a slanted view of your puppy ripping apart one of his plush toys underneath the couch.

You giggled and squealed as your boyfriend prevented you from closing out your video in one of the most pleasant ways. You knew he didn’t plan on letting up on you anytime soon, so you had to manage. “Don’t forget to like and subscribe, and follow us on social media,” you began yelling from the top of the couch. “I put out a new video every week--Ah! Jae, wait!”

The scene cut out with another static transition and the video ended with the ‘no signal’ color bars accompanied by the notorious elongated beep.

Thoughts on C3E1 so far??

Lots of thoughts which I will put below the "Read More" thing so it doesn't spoil others (I'll include the tag but for safety I'll do the read more).

My thoughts are also going to be scattered a bit so please have some patience with me!

Okay so I'm really excited about all the things planned for Marquet. Just the idea of desert travel and rolling a die to see what could happen during is very interesting to me (I always love seeing how different climates affect traveling in D&D).

The characters are great. I loved the ExU characters so them being back is cool. I was definitely surprised with them being back as well but I wasn't upset about it. I love Robbie Daymond a lot and Dorian is great.

I do hope Orym takes more of a lead from time to time since I know for ExU Liam stated he was having Orym take the backseat for the new players.

I will say I was watching on Twitch and also live chatting on Tumblr and I felt disappointed with the fandom a bit when all I saw was "Where's Travis?!" the whole time Robbie was there. I mean I love Travis but Robbie is a guest so be respectful? And obviously the show isn't just going to remove Travis completely. It was just very disheartening to see (I have heard Youtube is a lot nicer with the comments so I might just watch live from there from now on).

I am so so interesting in what's going on with Imogen and Laudna. Like I've seen theories and they're interesting (Laudna being a Dhampir feeding off of Imogen's Aberrant Mind stuff being one). Okay but the idea of Laudna having some tie to the De Rolos or Briarwoods is so cool.

I'm also very curious about Ashton and Fresh Cut Grass. I know Sam gave us some sad backstory already but none of that had been Insight checked so who's to say. Also Ashton having a huge hole in his head already gives lots of "big backstory!!" (also in his art he has a Clasp symbol on like a pouch or something so hello??)

The introduction of Bertrand definitely threw me for a loop because obviously something is up (we had been told to expect many twists). So I'm expecting Bertrand being a lead up to introducing Travis's actual character. I mean he is level 5 while everyone is level 3 (then again I know Dimension 20 has done campaigns like that but I still don't expect Bertrand to stay).

Emphasis on him being level 5 too cause what happened between the oneshots and now (I have scene like house rules of when characters don't adventure for a while they lose levels so maybe that, he is an old man)??

Okay but the set. The set is gorgeous. I watched the behind the scenes video (and cried when Marisha did) but to see it in action with the changing lights? Oh my god can you imagine how it'll be during like sandstorms or thunder? Or if they end up going underwater at any point? I love it.

Definitely cried when I saw them all at the same table again because the physical acting was something I loved so much. Not to mention all the hugging or when they're laughing so hard they lean on each other.

I definitely am excited for session 2 but I'm also trying not to be too excited. I mean we've only seen 1 session and I don't want to hype myself up too much. I trust Matt and the cast to deliver with their storytelling so I'm trying to force myself to be patient. Like answers will happen eventually, ya know?

Okay I think this is the majority of the thoughts that I had. Like I said, they're kind of scattered all over the place a bit. I'm just really excited to find out what's going on and see how things progress.

Introduction & Greeting

Yes, hello! This is actor Kim Beom. And I’m Lee Rang. Before the final episode, before the final week’s broadcast, I wanted to greet you all directly, so I’ve appeared like this dressed as Lee Rang. And...right now you can think of me as someone somewhere in between Kim Beom and Lee Rang. 

To be honest, there’s no decided format. I just went and looked up the things you all were curious about on my own. It could be a bit incoherent, but I hope you’ll enjoy watching. Also, I think there are fans who are worrying how I’ll do a LIVE, since I don’t really know how to, and I haven’t even been on Instagram that long, but actually, in order to do this, I spent the weekend writing the script myself (holding up his cue cards). I wrote the script myself. Actually, yesterday I also had a meeting about how to do an InstaLive, so I hope you’ll enjoy watching.

[0:05:10~0:08:04] Re: Color of clothing

Ah! There were a ton of comments about clothing color as well. Uh...I also read a lot of comments where you all were analyzing various things. And, well, a certain amount of it was really accurate...I was really thankful and also fascinated to see that it seemed like you all picked up on some of the things I had put thought into. For example, in the early part of the show when I appeared in red clothes, in a suit, of course there was also the fact that I was making an effort to exude the feeling of a villain, but the other piece that I had been thinking of was that, because there were a ton of scenes in the forest, in the forest on the island, I wanted a color that contrasted with green, so I looked for that sort of complementary color. 

Uh...so, for the case of Forest of the Starved, as with wearing red in the forest in the early episodes, I intentionally wore camel colored clothes and such. Uh...and because it was running, because a lot of the scenes in the Forest of the Starved were of us running, for visual purposes, the director proposed that we wear long clothes, so I wore a long trench coat and such. Also, for scenes that involved a lot of CG, we also, from a technical standpoint, for those bits with hyung...we wore a lot of colors excluding blue and green.   

Also, what else is there? Ah! The white clothes. There weren’t many scenes where I wore white clothing, but....very simply, in scenes where I bled (chuckling) so that the blood was easily visible...I wore a white shirt and such. One of the comments I read that really stuck with me was, ‘learned...learned pervert’ (laughing). That I was a learned person. I also had input here, and my stylist team also had the same thought, so....(very quietly) I was called a ‘learned pervert.’ Yes. 

Also...That’s right. A lot of what you all thought was really spot on. So I was also really fascinated and I thought, ‘Wah~ They even notice those sorts of things, I have to prepare even more diligently in the future,’ and for me, personally...from my standpoint as Kim Beom, I think this was the most costume fittings I’ve ever done. I also did a lot of test filming during the fittings. A JDG hyung who I’m close with and who is a photographer did a lot of test filming for me and really helped me a lot in the process of making Lee Rang. Oh, and also, in the process of doing tests for Lee Rang, perhaps because I took a liking to his image, I changed my profile picture for the first time in 10 years. I also changed my signature papers. It’s now Lee Rang, it’s Lee Rang’s image. I want to hurry up and provide you all with signatures too (laughs). Is this how I’m supposed to do this? I don’t know... (chuckles) 

[0:08:05~0:09:12] Re: Movements & gestures 

Ah, and also about movements and gestures and such...you talked especially a lot about things like me sleeping curled into a ball that got broadcast not too long ago. I saw a picture of me curled up asleep put next to an image of a fox sleeping, like this. Yes, that’s correct. From the very beginning I talked about wanting to give off the image of a fox, of a baby fox [glances to his staff] What? Show them? (chuckles) Like this, (does the gesture) sort of curled up sleeping. Foxes all sleep curled up, it turns out. So, there was an image of me curled up sleeping and, it should show up in the final episode, but there’s an image of me sitting curled into myself as well. When I’m sitting curled into a ball, even down to my toes I’m sort of, like this (does the gesture). Sitting like this was also something I did in order to give the impression of a fox. 

Aside from that, in the action sequences as well, if you look closely you can see that while people swing their fists like this, we made gestures, actions, like raking our claws. I think those sorts of things helped to make the character of Lee Rang, and also the gumiho, the other gumihos, so I was also really pleased while doing it. Yes. And I was even more thankful that the viewers picked up on that. 

[0:09:17~0:11:00] Re: Ad libs

The ad libs...for the ad libs as well, many people are asking just how much is ad libbed, especially since Yeon-ie hyung [Lee Dong Wook] is extremely good at ad libs and does them a lot. If you watch the behind the scenes videos and such, you can see the actors acting opposite him being caught off guard a lot. Hyung’s ad libs looked really cool to me, so I actually tried to emulate him a lot, but for that, it’s not possible with just your average [comedic/dramatic] sense. It’s the sense of someone who’s over a thousand years old, so one ad lib I made with the sense of a 600 year old was...there was one that was broadcast not long ago: “I’m warning you~~.” ‘I’m warning you~’ is an ad lib (laughs). 

The original line was...what was the original line again? (checks his cue cards) Ah, well, it was a line to the effect of, ‘don’t make me laugh’ or something like that, but seeing hyung saying ‘I’m warning you,’ I had the thought that it would be good if I teased him, so I was like, ‘I’m warning you~~’ as an ad lib. Also, in the café scene where we met after I returned from nearly dying, the drink hyung gave me was...there was a multi-colored drink, and for that, originally in the script it just said, ‘It’s tasty right? Have some, it’s tasty,’ or something like that, but hyung saying, ‘Have some, it’s rainbow flavored,’ was also hyung’s ad lib. And well, it didn’t appear in the broadcast, but I called it unicorn flavored. I think it was cut from the broadcast because it would have left people wondering ‘has he tried eating unicorn before?’ 

Those sorts of things...I also really learned a lot, I think, while doing them, such as hyung’s ease and whatnot. I was really jealous and he looked really cool. It came up in our lines too, but hyung always looked like he was shining brightly; he looked really cool.

To tell you more about hyung, hyung is...while being extremely sensitive, he’s the type to look after the other party in a brusk manner. For me personally, when I was studying and making Lee Rang’s character, I don’t think it would have been possible without hyung’s help. At first, I also...for the first time in a while I wore the clothes of another character and stood before the camera, and until that point I really had a lot of concerns and worries, but hyung gave me advice and really cheered me on a lot from the standpoint of an actor who has walked this path a little farther than me. So he was really a great help, and a source of strength, and whenever we were on set and there was something I didn’t know, I’d go ask hyung. Also, when I was agonizing over something, hyung would come over to me first and ask me if he could help, he was like that. 

And aside from that, the director, and the writer...Actually, Lee Rang’s tails have never appeared on screen, but in any case, Lee Rang should also have nine tails, right? There are nine. I have nine tails, but one of those was given to me by hyung. And one by the director, and one by the writer, and many others besides. Because they gave me tails, I was able to become a gumiho with nine tails, that’s the feeling I get. Yes.

[0:13:06~0:14:03] Re: Lee Rang’s Necklace

Ah! That’s right. There were also people who were curious about this necklace, wondering if this...if this wasn’t symbolic of something. In fact, in the beginning I had also thought that far. I thought of using it to express Lee Rang’s signature or something, so at first when he transformed I had gotten rid of it. Like when I appeared with glasses on (leans forward to show off the necklace better) this. It’s this necklace, but for my first transformation when I appeared with glasses, or...at those times I purposefully removed the necklace, but later on when I, when I transformed into hyung, if I wasn’t wearing it....if I was wearing it! I worried that you all would notice. You’re all extremely observant. Like gumihos. So in the end I decided to just leave this as fashion. 

[Note: This doesn’t fully make sense to me in terms of wearing it or not, but I double-checked and I translated everything exactly as he said it.]

And since we’re on the subject of transformations, I’m always being found out and saying, ‘Ah that damn dress code...’ and such, but, everyone, I’m not being found out. Lee Rang isn’t so foolish and incompetent. Conversely, in order to mess with people more, he’s intentionally giving them a hint. So he’s being like... ‘Even if I do this will they not notice? Will they not notice?’ by intentionally giving them a hint with his shoes. And so, for Ji Ah, and for Sajang, that was me intentionally giving them a hint, and in fact wanting them to realize. While being like ‘if you figure this out then I’ll have to mess with you even more,’ I’d then mess with them more. And so, conversely, when I transformed into hyung to fool Sajang, I fooled him perfectly didn’t I? I’m not such an incompetent person as that.

There are many people who are extremely curious about Lee Rang’s romance as well, but actually, romance [for Rang] didn’t appear in our Tale of the Nine Tailed. Because his love for hyung is so great. And his love for Yoo Ri was also somewhat different from the love between a man and a woman. It was a familial love, and also a love that came from wanting to fill the void, it was that sort of love. Uh....I saw someone say something like this. Mm...when Yeon-ie hyung falls in love it’s to this extent, but if Rang-ie, who is a rule-breaker, who ignores all the rules, were to fall in love, the earth would probably have been destroyed. Or at the very least, Korea would have been destroyed. haha Someone said that, but I think that probably would have been the case. If he had directed his love not at his hyung but at a woman, because Rang-ie isn’t afraid of his hyung, or the afterlife, or even hell, I feel like he would have had that sort of a [world-ending] romance.

Ah...this was a very sad question. [Rang is] a half-human, half-supernatural, but would he have dreamed of being a full gumiho, would he have dreamed of being a full human? There was talk to that effect. Uh...I think Rang-ie wouldn’t have wanted to be either. On the supernatural side as well, because he’s a half-supernatural...I don’t imagine he’d have been welcomed, and among humans, because he has supernatural blood, we also saw him being mistreated a lot. But then, amongst all of that, my one and only source of support was my hyung. And I think that’s why [Rang] was so obsessed with his hyung. I think he probably wouldn’t have wanted to belong to either side. Because he’s that sort of free spirit. Yes, that’s what I think.

Q: If Lee Rang had a favorite food like Lee Yeon’s mint chocolate, what would it be?

His favorite food is, you all may already know this, but it’s alcohol. Rang was always together with alcohol, and he was a character who goes well with alcohol. Somehow...it was like how lonely people reach for alcohol. I think it would have been that sort of feeling. It always kept him company, in place of his hyung (chuckles). That sort of, that sort of...his favorite food is alcohol, yes.

Ah, and, there was also a question about what percent of good versus evil exists inside of me, but...I also really thought hard about it when I received this question. Rang-ie was a very kind child when he was young, who couldn’t even pick a flower...he was a kind child who couldn’t even kill a bug, but then, that sort of...should I call it societal evil? Due to some misunderstandings and...painful times, he gradually begins to ‘live devoting himself to evil,’ there’s that expression, in Korea. I think all of that evil would have seeped into him. So while at first he would have been 80-90% good, even so...mm~ at 51 to 49%, wouldn’t 51% of him be good? That slight bit that he tries not to lose. Because evil, because the side of evil kept pulling at me, whether that be Imoogi, or Sajang, unavoidably evil would have pulled at me, but...I get the sense that Rang-ie, to the very end, wouldn’t have given up the good in him...Nn? [Staff catches his eye] Yes, so that’s why it’s (???)* hehehe Oh? (???)* Sorry. Hahaha Ah, sorry. I just startled myself as well. [Pointing at his staff] Your face has turned red!

[Note: The expression he uses for ‘to the end’ here could either be used literally or figuratively. So obviously he accidentally gave a huge spoiler, but if he - or rather, his staff - hadn’t reacted so much it might have just been glossed over. Also, I think he’s using terms associated with a video game here which is why I’m having trouble parsing the blanks.]

Ah! There was also talk about the stickers. Hahaha Uh...for the stickers as well, of course, in the script it was simply expressed as, ‘Rang, who is asleep covered in stickers,’ but actually, what stickers got stuck where was something that I decided myself. So I tried sticking a lightning bolt to my forehead, and, I’m not sure if it was visible in the broadcast, but the earring (the star on his ear) was a reference to the character So Yi Jeong that I played back in the day [Note: this is a reference to his character in Boys Over Flowers (2009)]. Well, I’m the type to overthink things like that, so hehe. I think a lot.

For that question...whether that question was a question for Kim Beom or for Lee Rang, I actually wasn’t sure, but someone asked, ‘Are you someone who is suited to being an older brother or someone who is suited to being a younger brother?’ Uh....to answer as Rang, Rang is of course more suited to being a younger brother, it fits his natural tendencies. That Kim Beom guy,* I mean, Kim Beom is... (chuckling under his breath) ‘that Kim Beom guy’ what am I saying? Kim Beom is...more suited to being an older brother, he has that aptitude, that inclination I think. 

[*Note: When said this I burst out laughing. The literal expression is, ‘that chingu (friend) called Kim Beom,’ and it’s just not a way that you would ever refer to yourself. He said he was somewhere in between Lee Rang and Kim Beom, and it really feels like that here haha]

And, well....If Lee Rang, if there is a nickname that Rang-ie likes or a nickname that remained with him [what would that be]? A whole lot of people also wrote to me with that question. The overseas fans have also been calling me ‘baby fox’ (said in English), and that was really amusing. Uh...also, well, ‘baby fox’ (in Korean), and things like ***** [Note: he censored himself here so I’m not actually sure what he said other than that it’s rude haha], I really had a lot of fun seeing them. Like, these people who, if I met them in real life, would say, ‘Spare me!’ and run away were treating me like a baby... (nodding to himself). It was funny (chuckles).

And so I also, later on....Somehow, at first I thought, ‘Huh?’, but then later on it was something that really made me feel good...(nodding) It was funny. (chuckles)

Q: If Lee Rang ever became a mountain god, what sort of world would he have created?

I probably would have made a wonderland for hyung, right? For hyung’s sake alone. So that hyung could enjoy himself, I would have tried making this and that....to make hyung smile once. I feel like that’s what I would have done, and because of that, because [Rang is] that sort of simple guy, he probably wouldn’t have become a mountain god, right? I’m good being a mountain god’s younger brother...

Also, Ah~ things related to Rang’s name, too. To my knowledge, the name ‘Rang’ was bestowed by his hyung. So originally he was a half-human, half-supernatural who didn’t even have a name, who was also abandoned by his family. He had been lonely like that, so it was probably hyung who gave it to him. The name ‘Rang’ means ‘shining.’ Most likely, at that time, wouldn’t he have really cried a whole lot? From happiness. Seeing as he continued using the name Rang, seeing as he continued using it for 600 years. If he had disliked it, he probably would have changed it, so he really took a liking to it. It was probably a happy time where he thought, ‘Now I too have a name~’ That’s right.

Ah! And also, there was the spin-off to talk about, right? In another world, in a slightly wider world, uh...there was a spin-off telling my story, and to be honest it was an extremely new attempt, and I also, at first, I approached it as an answer and a gift in response to all of the love that so many people had sent. Uh...thanks to that, I think it was nice that I was able to show you Lee Rang from another point of view, and I actually worried about it a great deal. 

Uh...Rather than our existing team, another spin-off team did the filming for us, and so I worried a lot. Because it wasn’t our team. But, they very diligently, and well...shot it for us. And for me, because many people supported us, thankfully, compared to what I had been worried about, I think it worked out well. Actually, when I was really at the end of my rope from worrying so much, I called hyung [Lee Dong Wook] from set, from the spin-off set, to say that I was worried, and I also met up with him in person, and the director [Kang Shin Ho], I told him I was worried. In the off chance that the fans of the Tale of the Nine Tailed main series might hate it, I was really very worried. But hyung really comforted me a lot, and told me it was cool, so that made me feel really good.

Also...I have to talk about Yoo Ri too, don’t I? Our Yoo Ri. Our Yoo Ri...from the very first time I met her she seemed like Yoo Ri. She was really really like a gumiho, like a fox. Like someone of mixed race. In reality, too, we met up recently and were eating together when she told me this. People from Russia are actually sending her DMs, she said. Asking if she’s really a mixed-blood Russian. Hearing that was so funny that I remember we both burst out laughing. But to that extent Yoo Ri [Kim Yong Ji] is that much like Yoo Ri, even when you see her in real life. And also, because she became such a perfect Yoo Ri when we were working, from the very beginning she was very reliable to film with, and I think I was also really able to immerse myself while filming.

And also, Shin Joo hyung, too. Actually...I didn’t have that many scenes in common with Shin Joo, but we became so close on set that later on - ah! Actually it’ll probably appear in tomorrow’s episode. Me and hyung [Hwang Hee] (catches the staff’s eye, raises his eyebrows, and then censors himself).....have a scene together, and you’ll probably get to see a very different Lee Rang, a very cheerful, uh...Lee Rang will appear, so I hope you enjoy watching it. 

[0:38:31~0:40:00] Re: CG

Ah, and also, we can’t not talk about the CG. Because, in a sense, it was one of the biggest aspects of our genre, from the first time we started filming we did a whole lot of tests. I think, in any case, we worried that those who see a lot of (computer graphics? - sorry, I’m actually unsure of this word) would feel that something was off, so we tried once using actual contact lenses, and also tried using actual (physical) tails. And for things like the Imoogi special effects makeup, it was a combination of makeup and CG that came to be through the help of truly a lot of people. My eye, and also hyung’s tails, and our abilities, Imoogi’s skin. I’d like to take the opportunity here to thank everyone involved once again. For giving me such a cool eye. I also, while watching the broadcast, was like, ‘Wah!’ 

Hm... also, I think my only having one eye that changed was probably the director’s idea. And our stunt team, our action team as well. We can’t not talk about them. I’m reminded of the first time, the times we went to action school to practice martial arts. From when we first began action practice, I would coordinate the timing with hyung [Lee Dong Wook] and we would go and practice together. So from the beginning, until we had created the action that would suit our characters, we went several several times for several hours at a time to practice. And then on set, they created things far beyond what we had practiced for us, so our action team really worked very hard as well, and the agwi and such that you saw...for many of those, our staff played all those roles for us. They really had it extremely hard, uh...yes. The (???) director, the (???)* director, and many stunt and action hyungs, all worked very hard. Hyung [Lee Dong Wook] also talked about this during our press conference, but they really worked very hard. On hot days, in the Forest of the Starved, they nearly....and they gave a very impassioned performance, so I was also able to immerse myself so the filming went well.

Mm....To be honest, I’m the type who really likes action, but the gumiho action this time, uh... (nods to himself). There were many stunts that appeared that were at a level beyond what I could have imagined, so while I enjoyed doing them, there were aspects that were difficult too, but when I saw how I appeared in the broadcast, I was very satisfied, and...because [the fans] really liked our sibling action scenes, it made me feel good.

You asked me if having so many crying scenes wasn’t taxing, but...I know, right? More than I thought, more than the Rang that I had originally pictured, [he] was actually quite a crybaby. There were many more crying scenes than I had thought there would be, and depending on how you look at it, it feels like maybe I cried nearly as much as Ji Ah....I get the sense that because [Rang] is a guy who carries a lot of pain and sadness, he had a lot of tears. And also, because I had to cry in a way that was Rang-like, at first I was like, ‘How should I cry? In what manner do I have to shed tears?’ but once the camera started filming...I felt like they were Rang’s own emotions, so. Yes. 

If I think of hyung [Lee Dong Wook], actually, even now I get really choked up. So, when I, myself, Kim Beom, had a photo shoot recently, the topic of hyung came up in the course of the interview and I froze for a second because I nearly started crying, that also happened...

And then on set when I gave my final thoughts upon wrapping filming, I still somehow had many of Rang’s emotions left over, so I...seeing me crying, hyung said, ‘Are you going through puberty?’ hahaha, I have memory of him saying things like that to make me laugh as well.

Also...I, well, hyung also transformed once, but for me because it’s one of my core talents, and because gumihos are the sort of character to do that, I received the question of whether there isn’t a character I wouldn’t like to try transforming into other than the ones that appeared in the drama. Honestly, if I was Lee Rang, I probably would have transformed into Ji Ah and tried to break her [and hyung] apart. Mm....I would have really hated transforming into Ji Ah but, uh...in order to separate her from hyung, and also, out of jealousy, due to his wish that [his hyung] wouldn’t fall in love with her again, out of love for his brother, he would have transformed into Ji Ah...isn’t that originally what gumihos are like?

However, because in that case then Ji Ah [Jo Bo Ah] will have to act that out again, probably (chuckles)...next time, if there’s ever an opportunity, I’ll transform into Ji Ah and... (starts making finger hearts without finishing his sentence) yes. I would like to show that to you all.

Actually...well, at the beginning, when you see me fighting, bickering, with hyung, and I say ‘Didn’t you miss me?’ this line, and also...that sort of line: ‘I’m dying of anticipation.’ There were these sorts of lines as well. Uh...also, my lines that I say to Yoo Ri too. Like...‘Why would you shed tears because of me? Don’t make your life into a melodrama.’ There were these sorts of lines as well.

Okay let’s clear something up here. I saw a really bad take on Jeremy’s Greatest Showman medley in his tag and we just need to break this down. Basically, this person said that Jeremy stans are salty Hugh and Zac ended up in The Greatest Showman. Fair take. Personally, I haven’t seen any of this (despite following numerous Jeremy stans all over my social media) but you know what fandoms can be like so okay cool that’s not a problem.

One thing I will point out about this though is Hugh was always working on the project anyway... so unsure about that specific point? We all knew that information and Jeremy was always too young for Barnum’s role anyway. He ever acknowledges this in his performance. He did the demos for the songs, and said he thought nothing would come of it because the role wasn’t a fit for him. He only got his hopes up when the role of Phillip was created as this was something he could do.

Anyway in the comments of said post, was someone saying that Jeremy needs to stop going around speaking about “the day I was almost cast in the greatest showman, it’s so pathetic” and the OP and someone else agreed with them. And I’m sitting here like wow they really misunderstood the performance. I can understand that if they’ve never watched Jeremy before maybe they think he’s coming across as arrogant? Him calling himself the "true saviour of movie musicals” is literally just his sense of humour, and it was an obvious joke. He’s actually a very modest person. He’s spoken various different times about not feeling like he’s good enough.

First of all, Jeremy’s medley isn’t him moping around like “this job was mine all along and zac efron stole it what a thief”. His performance is an amusing take on something in his life that was difficult for him to process. It’s perfectly valid to feel sad about a rejection. But Jeremy is a professional actor. He’s no stranger to rejection in this cut-throat industry and he certainly wasn’t slating other actors in expressing these feelings. He’s allowed to tell the story from his perspective. I first saw him perform this medley in London over a year ago and neither me or my friends felt like it was him taking a swipe and Hugh and Zac. It was just an honest, but humerous re-enactment of how his time working on The Greatest Showman went.

Second, one of the things said was that he was bitter about a role he “didn’t even audition for”. SPARE ME, PLEASE. It’s not completely wild for actors to be cast in projects from workshops alone with no audition. I laughed so hard at this comment because Keala Settle (a queen) is literally right there. It doesn’t always happen, but it can happen. Another recent example I can think of from the top of my head is Carrie Hope Fletcher being cast in ALW’s Cinderella. She never auditioned for that, she only did the workshop and then they asked her to do the role. Sometimes the workshop... is the audition.

So it’s valid for him to feel like he stood a chance, and to then be disheartened by the fact he was never truly being considered. If I was in his position I probably would have wanted to be out of that room asap too. Imagine you’ve just done a not-so-great vocal performance because you’re ill and then overhearing that your journey with this project is over? Would you honestly stick around in that situation? I’d be feeling sort of embarrassed and demoralised. I doubt he just slipped out ungratefully without thanking people for the opportunity though as Pasek and Paul are friends of his. Plus, he’s been working in the industry long enough to know coming across as salty isn’t good for your reputation going forward. And he certainly was moping around in the behind-the-scenes video released on YouTube. Despite him feeling like he had given a terrible performance, outwardly he presented himself very enthusiastically like the true professional he is. Remember as well that they asked him to do the read-through and then he had to buy his own plane ticket even though they wanted him there.

Then, they posted a news article linking to a headline that said something about ‘Jeremy losing role to Zac Efron’. Do they think Jeremy personally controls what they write about his performance? I feel like no one should have taken that article seriously the moment it called him ‘Supergirl’s Jeremy Jordan’. We all know he is ‘Tony-nominated Broadway star Jeremy Jordan’ (although the article was correct in saying that Jeremy deserves to be in a major movie musical, let’s be real he’s talented af).

I need to point out (after checking out their blogs) these people are all hardcore Zac/Hugh fans. I feel like they’re just doing anything to make it seem like their fandom is being attacked, which I don’t really understand. It’s a shame they feel like they can’t enjoy this Greatest Showman content, if I’m honest. I’m also here as a huge fan of Zac and Hugh and would definitely not be taking any kind of slander against them... which is why I enjoy Jeremy’s Greatest Showman Medley... because it is NOT slander against them. Plus, if you’re truly a fan of The Greatest Showman then just be grateful Jeremy swooped in and sang all of Hugh’s songs even when he was ill himself for the read-through that got the movie greenlit. 

Sorry for the essay. I really hate arguing with people on this damned site but when you’re just scrolling through a tag and see some utter nonsense sometimes you have to respond. Anyway, enjoy the video above of Jeremy being great.

Normally you don’t check Twitter notifications during class, however one of the three that pop up caught your eye.

Your phone is in your hand instantly and you're standing from your seat. Your English teacher, Mrs. Leighton is shocked to see you disregarding the fact that you’re supposed to be doing a timed writing. “Miss Stark, take your seat please.”

“I have a… medical emergency. I need to go get more insulin from the nurse.”

“Alright, I’ll write you a pass.” You want to run out the door, but not everything can be fixed by the fact that you’re a Stark now. Once you have the pass in hand, you walk out into the hallway and turn into the stairwell before punching Natasha’s number into your phone. 

“Y/N, I’m fine.”

“I had to find out from Twitter?”

“I was going to text you later. There was no reason to freak you out over nothing.”

“Was my dad there?” You ask, after not seeing last night and this morning.

“No. He was at the compound last I saw him. Planning on heading back to the tower in the morning.”

“What is going on?” You ask.

“Y/N, there’s a lot I can’t tell you right now. Focus on school and I’ll see you as soon as I’m Stateside again.”

“Nat-” The phone hangs up before you can get another word out. “Ugh. Fucking superheroes.” You swear under your breath before shoving your phone back into your pocket.

“Y/N, right?” You look up to find brown eyes looking back at you in concern.

“Yeah. Parker right?” He nods. He’s holding a clipboard that’s painted to say hall pass in bright letters.

“Peter,” he reminds you, like you have forgotten. “Everything alright?” He asks looking at you with concern.

“Not really, but I’ll manage.”

“You wanna talk about it, because according to my friend Ned, I’m really great at listening?”

“How much time are you allowed to be out on that hall pass?” 

“I’m in wood shop. Mr. Wallman didn’t even notice I took it. What about you?”

“I’m supposed to be at the nurse getting more insulin, so I have as much time as I need.” You say with a smirk. But Peter’s face falls.

“Do you need to get to the nurse? I can walk you there.” You shake your head.

“I don’t actually need to go. There’s an issue when your family is all superheroes that you tend to worry when their name pops up alongside building explosions and stuff.”

“Is your dad ok?”

“It wasn’t my dad this time. One of the other Avengers. She’s fine. But I wasn’t going to believe it until I heard it for myself. So I used a medical excuse to get out of class so I could call her. I feel like ever since I gained all the Avengers as family, all I do is worry I’m going to lose them. Like they’re superheroes they can protect themselves and stuff-”

“But you worry. I completely understand.” Peter says and you look at him in disbelief. “I mean, I would completely understand if I was in your shoes but I’m not. I’m just saying I empathize with you.”

“I appreciate it.” You can’t help but smile at his rambling. It’s cute.

“Can I ask you something I wonder about you?”

“I’ve never used the Iron Man suit if that’s the question.” It wouldn’t be the first time someone asked about the suit you’ve never even seen.

“No, it’s… it wasn’t that. Is it like the best living with two of the greatest scientists alive?”

“Bruce and my dad?” You clarify and he nods. “I mean, I’ve only lived with them for a while and Bruce is off world right now maybe? That’s our guess at least. But my dad….” You pause and think how to explain your dad to someone who doesn’t know him and you realize you don’t even know him that well. “He’s a tinkerer. He spends a lot of time in his lab. But science is like my least favorite subject so anything he does is pretty much lost on me. Goes over my head for the most part.”

“Your dad is Tony Stark and science is your least favorite subject?” Peter asks in shock. 

“The apple falls far from the tree I guess.” You shrug and glance at your phone. “I should probably get back before Leighton thinks I left to google the timed writing.”

“You’ll do fine.”

“It’s English. Of course I will.” You flash a smile at him. “Thanks for listening though.”

“Any time.” You really hope he means that. Because you could spend so much time talking with Peter Parker.

Peter watches as the only Stark he’ll probably ever meet walks away. There’s something about this girl that is different. Even though you had been freaking out moments before he stopped to talk to you, he wasn’t going to tell you he had heard you muttering ‘Ugh. Fucking superheroes’, but you definitely weren’t the person people thought you were supposed to be. When it was announced the week before school started that not only did Tony Stark have a daughter but that you were going to be attending MSST, he kind of expected an outspoken, over the top personality like the Tony Stark he had seen on TV many times before. But you weren’t like that. You are different from the personality that TV Tony Stark had. You are down to earth, you are open, and Peter wants to know more about you. However when Tony Stark appears in his apartment later that day, Peter isn’t planning on voicing any of his thoughts about said daughter. 

“I definitely did not apply for your grant...”

“Ah-Ah! Me first. Okay! Quick question of the rhetorical variety.” He pulls up a video on his Stark Phone that plays it out. “That’s you right?”

“Um, no. What- what do you mean?”

“Yeah, look at you go. Wow! Nice catch. 3,000 pounds, 40 miles an hour. That’s not easy. You got mad skills.”

“That’s all on YouTube though, right? That’s where you found that?”

“That’s where someone found it.” Tony mumbles, not revealing who actually found it.

“Because you know that’s all fake. It’s all done on the computer.” Peter walks towards his computer and other tech as Tony walks back towards the main part of the bedroom.

“Mmm-hmm.” Tony reaches for a stick.

“It’s like that video. What is it?”

“Yeah. Oh, you mean like those UFOs over Phoenix?” Tony asks as he pushes up on the attic hatch.

“Exactly.”

“What do we have here?” Tony asks as the Spider-Man suit comes down. Peter snatches it and hides it in his closet.

“Uh…”Peter tries a different distraction tactic. “I know your daughter.”

“Excuse me.” For a second, with the bruise on his face, Tony Stark’s face becomes sinister. “You know my daughter?”

“Y/N? She goes to my school. She’s a grade below me. At least I think she is since she said this morning she was in Leighton’s class and Leighton only teaches ninth grade.”

“You spoke to my daughter this morning?” The overprotective father comes out in his voice.

“Yeah she was… not important. Anyway-” Tony cuts him off.

“No, no. Correction to that statement. She is very important. Especially to me. So enlighten me. What did you talk to my daughter about?” 

“Uh, it really wasn’t that important.” Peter crosses his arms. He feels like he’s being interrogated by the father of a date he isn’t having. 

“Tell me anyway.”

“She was worried about someone. A female. One of the Avengers.” There’s a hint of recognition on Mr. Stark’s face, but he says nothing. “I caught her after she got off the phone. She looked stressed out. I asked if she needed someone to talk to. She mentioned she had used an excuse to get out of class to make a call. She mentioned something about explosions and people’s names being on Twitter. I thought she was worried about you. She said it was someone else.” Peter pauses, but Tony motions for him to continue. “She talked about how she worries a lot about you guys. She worries about losing her, well her new family I guess. “Distract her how.” Tony’s words came out as a demand as he stares at the teenager in front of him. “What did you do to my daughter.”

“I talked to her. Only talked! Promise sir!” Peter says quickly. “Asked her questions about living with two of the greatest scientists of all times. Although when I asked her if I could ask her something I had wondered about her first reaction was to tell me she’s never used the Iron Man suit.”

“What did she say about that?” Tony is suddenly curious to hear what Y/N had to say about living with him since it’s been over a month.

“She said that you’re a tinkerer. But she did go on to say that anything you do science wise is lost on her, since science is her least favorite subject. Something about the apple falling far from the tree or something.”

“I don’t believe that. But science being her least favorite subject has been mentioned a few times.” Tony pulls his phone out of his pocket and glances at the picture on his lock screen before sliding it back into his pocket. “But to be honest, I didn’t come here to talk to you about my daughter, as much as I’d love to talk about her all night. You’re the Spider-ling. Crime fighting Spider. Spider-Boy”

“Spider-Man.”

“Not in that onesie you’re not.”

“It’s not a onesie. I don’t believe this. I was actually having a really good day today Mr. Stark. I talked with Y/N without doing anything stupid, didn’t miss my train, this perfectly good DVD player was just sitting there and this Algebra test, nailed it.”

“Who else knows? Anybody?”

“Nobody.”

“Not even your unusually attractive aunt?”

“No. No. No! If she knew she would freak out. And when she freaks out, I freak out.”

“You know what I think is really cool? This webbing.” He tosses it at Peter. “That tensile strength is off the charts. Who manufactured that?”

“I did.” Peter throws it in his closet to hide it again.

“Climbing walls, how you doing that? Adhesive gloves?”

“It’s a long story. I was…”

“Lordy! Can you even see in these?”

“Yes! Yes! I can!”

“I’m blind!” Tony jokes as Peter pulls away the suit and throws it back in the closet. 

“I can see in those! It’s just that when whatever happened, happened it’s like my sense have been dialed to eleven. There’s way too much input, so they just kinda help me focus.”

“You’re in dire need of an upgrade. Systemic, top to bottom, hundred- point restoration. That’s why I’m here.” Peter sits on his bed as he listens to Tony talk. “Why you doing this? I gotta know, what’s your MO? What gets you outta that twin bed in the morning? But I swear to god if you say my daughter’s name, you won’t swing another day in your life.”

“I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve spoken to your daughter-”

“I’ve also been a teenage boy. That means nothing to me.” Tony says, staring him down. “But seriously, what makes you go out and fight crime on the day to day?”

“Because… because I’ve been me my whole life, and I’ve had these powers for six months.”

“Mm-hmm.”

“I read books, I build computers. And yeah I would love to play football, but I couldn’t then so I shouldn’t now.”

“Sure, because you’re different.”

“Exactly. But I can’t tell anybody that, so I’m not. When you can do the things that I can, but you don’t and then the bad things happen… they happen because of you.”

“So you wanna look out for the little guy, you wanna do your part? Make the world a better place and all of that, right?”

“Yeah, just looking out for the little guy. That’s what it is.” Tony stands up and walks over towards Peter.

“I’m going to sit here so you move the leg.” He claps a hand on Peter’s shoulder. “You got a passport?”

“No, I don’t even have a driver’s license.”

“You ever been to Germany?”

“No.”

“Oh, you’ll love it.”

“I can’t go to Germany.”

“Why?”

“I got homework.”

“I’m gonna pretend you didn’t say that.”

“No I’m being serious. I can’t just drop out of school.”

“Might be a little dangerous. Better tell Aunt Hottie I’m taking you on a field trip.” Tony reaches for the door and Peter webs him to the door before he can even turn the handle.

“Don’t tell Aunt May.”

“Alright Spider-Man. Get me out of this.”

“Sorry, I’ll get the dissolvent.”

“Oh and don’t even think about dating my daughter. Don’t think I missed the talking to my daughter being the good part of your day.” Peter looks over at Tony, who if looks could kill would have killed him already. “Now Happy will pick you up tomorrow morning to take you to Germany on one of my private jets after he drops Y/N off at school.”

“Who’s Happy?”

“My Head of Security. He will take you everywhere you need to be.”

“Why aren’t we leaving tonight for Germany?”

“Because I haven’t seen my daughter in over 48 hours and she might kill me if I don’t stop at home before leaving to go back overseas.”

“Oh. Right.”

“I will see you in Germany Mr. Parker.”

DRAMAtical Murder Masterpost type thing (Links to buy things and a general introduction to what DMMd is)

So... since information on DRAMAtical Murder tends to be scattered and/or outdated, I'm making this. It's not necessarily needed, but hopefully it'll help someone, and it'll also satisfy my weird need to archive and compile things(?) lol. This will cover what DRAMAtical Murder even is, to how to play/purchase the game, to other links + resources for existing fans. This is mainly just… links to purchase things. So many links. A note about the links- links to sites where the item is unavailable are not included here. So there were other sites where things could be purchased, but are now not available, so I excluded them. Firstly...

What is DRAMAtical Murder?

DRAMAtical Murder (DMMd) is an r18 Boys Love Visual novel created by Nitro+CHiRAL back in 2012. It has 4 character routes, with a 5th unlockable one. All the routes have 2 endings each, a good and bad ending- with the exception of 1 who has multiple bad endings (Noiz). There was a sequel/fandisc released in 2013 with DRAMAtical Murder re:connect, a SFW PS Vita port in 2014 with DRAMAtical Murder re:code (with the explicit content cut out and an extra route added), and an Anime adaptation in the same year. There was also a stage play adaptation in late 2019. There was a fanmade translation patch released for DMMd and DMMd re:connect on AarinFantasy forums, which is how many fans experienced the game in English. It was only in recent years that DMMd, and other Nitro+CHiRAL games would get an offical English translation by JAST BLUE. Nitro+CHiRAL has released other BL games, with Togainu no Chi, Lamento, and Sweet Pool. Their most recent release is Slow Damage, which will be getting an offical English release as well. I encourage you to support and purchase the official release if you are able to. As the game is now out officially in English, there will be no links or etc to the patch in this post.

Here is one plot summary (Technically from the Anime but the other ones I found were google translate quality); The story takes place many years in the future where the game "Rhyme," a virtual fighting game, is incredibly popular and people possess "AllMates," convenient AI computers. Aoba leads an ordinary life, working at a junk shop and living with his grandmother on the island of Midorijima. Unlike his friends, he doesn't participate in Rhyme, nor does he belong in a gang. However, when rumors of people disappearing spread, Aoba finds himself needing to unravel the mysteries behind the island in order to protect his everyday life. So, basically, DMMd is a BL Visual novel. Like all Nitro+CHiRAL games, DMMd contains content some may find triggering- just as a small warning. Otherwise, and this is coming from a huge fan- I personally think DMMd is amazing. The characters are wonderful, their backstories are unique and makes them feel fleshed out and give the DMMd world more life, in a way- the music is incredible and really… there is nothing quite like DMMd, it's so wonderfully strange and great. I promise you it's so much more than just the explicit stuff. ...But again that's just me. Not everyone will like it and even some fans will not see it the same way I do, but anyway.

How can I play the game?

For the Japanese version; There are two versions of DMMd; the original, and the Windows 10 version. The original isn't sold anymore to my knowledge, however that version should still work on Windows 10. Please note you will need to set your system Locale to Japanese or use something like Locale Emulator/NTLEA to play the game, or it will not work. Setting your actual system Locale to Japanese may cause problems, so keep this in mind. What about DRAMAtical Murder re:connect?

re:connect is the fandisc/sequel to the original. It has mainly the short stories that add to the original endings, both good and bad. It also has more stories that can be unlocked like Aoba’s backstory, and what happened afterwards with Mizuki. It also includes minigames and the April Fools jokes N+C did before re:connect was released. JAST BLUE has not confirmed a translation will happen for re:connect, but there is still the fan translation released on Aarinfantasy forums. If there is any news on JAST BLUE and re:connect, I will update this post. As said before, there is no Windows 10 version of re:connect, although it should work fine on Windows 10 regardless. Then what about DRAMAtical Murder re:code?

re:code is the PS Vita port of the original PC release. It cuts out the explicit content, censors some CGs for a 15+ rating, adds new CGs and even some new scenes, and adds an entirely new route; the Morphine route, aka the Mizuki route. re:code also addressed some plot-holes that were in the original. There have been various drama CDs for DMMd. The drama CDs (or in this case, BLCD) is essentially the same as the Visual novel, except it’s purely audio. The same voice actors from the VN are in the drama CDs. The bonus CDs; Some of the CDs were included as a special pre-order bonus, with different CDs from different sites. I’m unsure if these are able to be purchased anymore, unless it’s second-hand.
