A Phil update! For those who were asking.

I mentioned before that Phil works for a call centre. I'm pretty sure I've also made it clear by now that Phil's spectacular weirdness, coupled with his hatred of capitalism, means he's been mentally checked out of that job for a while now. His main focus has been his degree for the past year anyway. The only reason he's stayed is because Phil has a history of destructive impulsivity that he's been actively working on, so he didn't want to just walk out.

So there we are, scene set. Last week, he phones my husband.

"A weird thing happened in work," he tells Steff. "My manager called me into the office for a chat, but... I think it was weird? I'm pretty sure it was weird."

"Tell me what happened, Phil," says Steff.

Here's the story:

Phil goes into the office, and the manager fixes him with a Kind Smile.

"Phil," the Manager says hesitantly. "Do you... like working here?"

"...um," says Phil, distantly aware after Many Conversations with Exasperated Friends that the correct answer to your boss is 'yes', but physically incapable of lying. "Well. I. Um."

"Because," the manager says awkwardly. "Look, you - it's okay."

"Is it?" Phil asks vaguely.

"It's okay," the manager repeats. "I know you don't like working here. This isn't what you want to do. You don't want to stay."

"No," Phil agrees, relieved they are on the same page.

"Listen," the manager says, in an agony of awkwardness. "Look, Phil... you're such a nice guy. Just... I'll write you the best reference. But you can just... go, if you want. You can... go back to your desk and log out and just... leave."

"...okay," says Phil. And he leaves.

So he tells this story to Steff, who is, obviously, BAFFLED.

"Okay," says Steff. "Right. Phil. Phil what the fuck did you do."

"Nothing!" Phil protests. "I didn't do anything!"

"Okay," Steff says again, changing tack. "Phil. What have you done recently that a capitalist would disapprove of?"

"Oh," says Phil. "It's probably because I gave that old woman £200 of company money."

"...go on," Steff says wearily.

Here's the story:

This sweet old woman rings and says her phone was down for a couple of days. She's calling to complain, because it meant she couldn't contact her relatives, and she felt lonely.

"I'm so sorry," says Phil. "Do you want some money?"

("First question," says Steff. "Were you supposed to give any money at all for that?"

"...no," says Phil.)

So this old woman is like "Uh... yes please? Okay?"

"Alright!" says Phil cheerfully. "Let's see how much I can give you."

("Second question," says Steff. "Were you allowed to give out £200 to anyone?"

"Oh, no," says Phil. "They made it really difficult, actually, it took ages.")

"Ah," Phil tells this old lady. "I can only give you £50. Let's try that."

"I... thank you," says this old lady, already in the grip of the Heady Bewilderment that descends on everyone who speaks to Phil for a bit. "That's very generous."

"It's gone through!" says Phil happily. "There we are. I wonder if it'll let me do it again?"

"Um," says the old lady, who is starting to sense that she's dealing with a maverick doing something he shouldn't.

("Third question," says Steff. "Did she ask for more at any point?"

"Um... no," says Phil.)

"It worked!" Phil says brightly. "Do you want me to do it again? I think it'll let me."

"...okay," this old lady says, strangled. "Thank you."

"No problem," says Phil helpfully. "It's done it, I think. Shall we do one more?"

"Yes please," says this old woman, who is now convinced she's either called the wrong number or is speaking to an amenable faerie one mustn't refuse.

Phil tries again. It goes through.

...

"Do you think," Steff asks, "that this might have been a fireable offence?"

"I suppose?" Phil says dubiously. "The company has loads of money though, I don't see why."

"...no, of course you don't," Steff agrees.

"Anyway," Phil says. "I think I left on a good note. But that might have been weird, too."

"What did you do," Steff sighs.

"Well, I packed up my desk," says Phil. "And then this guy turned up who was supposed to give me some training. And I told him that I was leaving so it wasn't necessary, and then he said that he had to give the training-"

"You did the training, didn't you," says Steff.

"I did the training," says Phil.

28-Sept Update: Added Brazilian Portuguese translations (thank you @cs2te!). Fixed an issue where there was no exit to the Sell Fake ID interaction. For those that have the Religion mod, you don't need a separate RM specific version, just download/redownload the main Overhaul package.

3-Sep Update: Thanks to ProtectusCZ over at MTS who let me know about a string issue with the vape flavors. That's been fixed so the flavors should not show up as blank when you are filling/refilling the cartridge. Also the smoking durations should now be tunable so you can adjust them in Retuner.

What does it do:

Sims can now sit and chat with others while smoking

I updated the way addiction works in the game. Previously it was just based on a random number of times smoked but now it's more nuanced and based on how often you smoke and certain trait and lifestyle factors (for example, if you have other smokers in your household, you're more likely to get a smoking habit)

Cigarettes and smoking items can now ONLY be purchased in a special section at the grocery store by YAs and above. You will see a new interaction in the store RH called "Shop for Cigarettes". Teens can get around this by using a fake ID. 

Fake IDs

Teens can purchase fake IDs from: 

Any common criminal (Sim in the criminal career Level 4 or below) 

Any teen that has a fake ID

You can offer a price and based on your offer, the dealer will either accept or reject. 

Rebellious, Computer Whiz or teens with high Rebel Influence Skill can also buy fake IDs online. The underground online market for IDs moves very quickly so prices change every time you check but will never go higher than §500 or lower than §50. Once you purchase, the ID will be mailed to your home the next day. 

HOWEVER, you need to make sure you get to the package first. If your parent gets the package and opens it, then all teens in the house will get in trouble. The one who ordered the fake will get a special moodlet that will allow them 24 hours to confess to doing it. If they confess to their sibling(s), the sibling will either forgive and agree to keep quiet or they will get mad and have the opportunity to snitch to a parent. If the wrongdoer confesses to a parent, it will exonerate the other teens but also potentially get them into bigger trouble with both their parents and their siblings.

Fake IDs aren’t foolproof. If you use it in the store, there’s a chance you will get busted and your fake ID will be confiscated. The chance is based on how young your teen is and the quality of the fake ID. Fake ID quality is determined when you purchase, based on the price you paid so you may want to think twice before jumping on that §60 fake.

Vaping

Sims can now vape, vaping pens can be found where you buy cigarettes.

Vaping pens cost §300 with a cartridge that needs to be filled before you can use and then after every 10 uses. You can buy a regular cartridge or a flavored one and the costs are varied but are all between §200-§300. (I know, it's an expensive habit.)

Vaping is not as unhealthy as smoking regular cigarettes, is less addictive and doesn't leave your Sim with a smoke smell.

For teens, vaping will still get them in trouble if they are caught by a parent doing it.

Known Issues:

There are no IK targets on the sitting animations (they kept floating above the chairs when I added them) so teens will sink a little into the chair because they're smaller than adults.

Tired Jokes Astarion, harsh and fun in character.

Disclaimer: I don't separate Astarion "before" and "after" the ritual - Asc it's still him, canonically confirmed. I sure that Astarion's personality is not dictated by anything other than Astarion, himself.

I thought about Neil's Mask-talk - Lord Astarion, and how Astarion had lost some of the fun, which was a "distraction anyway". I agree, that's exactly what I thought and felt. Then I remembered what Cazador said, "your tired jokes". Cazador Szarr: No, you always had a gift for words. Cazador Szarr: I fondly remember your empty boasting, your tired jokes, your endless prattle...

Casador didn't finish, by the way, Astarion interrupted him. Cazador surprisingly let him prattle on. Astarion reacts very sharply - he doesn't like to remember it. He's sick of the way he acted as a slave. (it dawned on me that perhaps "empty boasting" refers to his past before slavery - "always had" "always had" "always had" I don't let myself think about it yet, this game is still being worked on I'm talking about the time of slavery here) I don't think Astarion doesn't like, on the whole, to joke and lie about it. No, he loves it. Just not the way he did when he was a slave. But after all, he was a Magistrate (I'm sure he remembers that until Larian told otherwise) this is a man of power, and he had to be able to be formidable when required. I think he liked to be formidable early on. Narcissus (yes, always), racist (quite), from the Upper City, a Magistrate with power, harsh, given what he said about criminals, merciless. Lord hints at this a bit what a Magistrate he was. When he became Cazador's slave, he couldn't afford to be powerful, not in any way at all. He had to be mindful of his status as a slave. And all he could afford was to joke-prattle around, like a jester. Being a jester is the only way to express yourself without "subordinate status", jokes blurred that Master-slave distinction a bit.

When he became Master, he doesn't need jokes anymore. However, there's still a fun in him by his personality. That's why he's been talking so loudly since gaining Lord status, he was only allowed to jump around like a buffoon before. He wasn't taken seriously. Astarion revels in his voice, which is finally not slavish. The voice of the Lord and I think the voice of the Magistrate. Now having paid the price, he can do what the hell he wants. Speaking of romance that's why: it's time to dominate Tav\Dark Urge. He can allow himself to do that, finally, openly. (Unless of course it's a bdsm-s\d-fanservice dropped from the sky, yes, patch 6?) In my humble opinion, given that his self-esteem has been humiliated for 200 years, someone who obeys him willingly, with trust and respect, will be very precious and loved, but he would clutch a person like a dragon in his clutches.

FINALLY he gets to have a lovely thing on his arm who will laugh at his jokes and blush at his good manners! SMEE!! Get the good cutlery and crack out the candles, you're being treated to a candle lit dinner THIS INSTANT!!

Let! Him! Dote! On! You!

He loves that you tend to think on the lighter side and assume the best. Not only does it bring out a much more protective side of him, but the crew are extremely appreciative of the balance you're bringing to the ships atmosphere. They're violent and bad tempered, sure, but nobody wants to live on a hair trigger every day for forever - or however long they're going to be trapped on Neverland for, which is already 200+ years at this point and climbing.

There have been, instances, shall we say, where a crewmate or mermaid has been less than welcoming. It flew over your head, innocence has it's disadvantages after all, but the Captain can shoot a target over 100 yards in any direction without even bloody LOOKING, so they were short lived at best.

Being forced to pull your friends corpse out to sea does tend to put the fear of death back in one Captain James Hook.

Your laugh makes his face hurt from smiling so much. His nerves have never been so soothed.

Smee has already decided that if you ever make any moves to leave he's chaining you to the mast. Sorry not sorry, you're stuck here now. He may be the friendliest face on the ship, but you don't get to 60+ on a pirate ship without some tricks up your sleeve.

And managing Hook's fraying sanity is Smee's biggest and best trick to date.

Jafar x Innocent!Reader:

You are simultaneously Jafar's rock and his day to day grievances rolled into one.

One one had, OH you make his job so much easier. Your bright and bubbly attitude lights up the palace and distracts the Sultan from effusing any of the idiot's thoughtless noise in Jafar's general direction. Jasmine's stand offish behaviour melts away under your smile, and the servants will agree to almost anything you ask.

On the other hand, Reader PLEASE He has spent DECADES perfecting his slease, his charms, his sultry yet intimidating stalk through the halls, learning how to swish and snarl just so to get his way and now you're latched to his arm beaming and babbling away and all his carefully crafted mystique is waving goodbye on the desert winds.

When you frst met his frustration was unending. You were too innocent to catch any of the double meanings and secret overtures under his words and you would not be threatened By ALLAH WHAT does he have to do for some unease in this godamn palace?!

The worst part wasn't even that you weren't catching it. It was that he wanted you so badly to catch it. Unlike the sultan he could see the intelligence behind your eyes. You and he were so close to a real, proper, genuine connection and the lack of comprehension in your gaze made his hands itch with the urge to break you.

Of course, he couldn't do much. Hypnotism isn't as effective as you think, it only really works on people who are weak willed or already over halfway to doing what he wants.

With nothing left to do, he resorts to avoiding you. Too bad you've decided you like him and the servants are always willing to tell you where he is isn't it? Even his 'secret' lair isn't safe. Never underestimate how much the staff know, they're the ones who can hear his mad laughter at 3 in the morning through the walls.

In private he's much more willing to accept affection, especially of the physical kind. Your touch is addictive at this point, and the sensation of all your attention soley on him strokes his ego something wicked.

A deep dive into Scarlet and Violet's lore

Okay so, since the story's kinda the only good thing about these games alongside the characterizations I wanted to share a couple of ideas I have in mind regarding the story so far.

As always excuse eventual grammar errors and strange periods, English is not my first language and I'm trying my very best ahahah

Obviously there are going to be spoilers about the endgame, so beware!

Can we all agree that the time machine and the Pokémons from the past/future thing just has so many holes in it?

Like sure, Turo and Sada are geniuses and may very well have been able to create some sort of machine that allows Pokéballs to travel across time to catch these variants of Pokémons we know in the present, but.

I'm kinda confident that these Pokémons (if we want to call them that) do not come from a different time, they just don't exist at all, or at least they're not supposed to. I mean, they specifically chose to call them Paradoxes, things that shouldn't exist in the first place but are there in front of your eyes somehow. Not Past or Future Forms, not Prehistoric or Futuristic Forms, Paradoxes.

Let's take the Scarlet ones for example for a minute: how come there is no trace left whatsoever of these Pokémons like the Fossils? And don't get me started on Sandy Shock, come on, how the hell is a magnet existing millions of years ago. They don't make sense!

If we read the Scarlet/Violet Book we learn that the Paradoxes, the same ones, have already been encountered by the Area Zero Expedition, which explored the Area Zero 200 years ago, and also very likely during the Great Expedition Era which was around 2000 years ago, and of course no time machine existed back then. This is obviously very strange and Arven as well points this out in the post-game.

So the question is: where exactly do they come from?

Let's start by saying that everything that happened in the Area Zero, from the Terastal phenomenon that was later brought to the surface, the production of an AI able to copy the Professor in any way that couldn't have been made with the modern human technology, to the making of the time machine was all thanks to the power of the crystals present down there which, we know, come from the infamous third legendary.

I strongly belive, and I see that a great part of the community agrees, that this thing is able to materialize people's imagination, to make their dreams come true.

Think of this: the Professor adores the Scarlet/Violet Book, they bring it together with them since they were kids, they fantasize about a "paradise" described in this book and this dream never leaves them while growing up and they dedicate their whole lives to fulfill it. This dream clearly becomes an obsession, they neglect their child, the AI they created starts to disagree with them, but they still proceed until they succeed in creating the time machine. (Personal opinion: the game should have definitely explored the motive behind the Professor's actions more) But is it really a time machine or is the third legendary making their dream come true by bringing them the creatures they always read about? As long as the machine works neither the Professor and the AI question its actual nature, obviously they take for granted that it's a time machine.

Following this line of logic the machine helped the AI to fulfill their dream by making them go to the world they wished to explore.

To further support my theory take a look at this page of the Scarlet Book:

1) Why would they put this page in the game (and leakers say we will have this thing in the DLC) which is clearly centered on someone's imagination if the Paradoxes simply come from different times? Because they don't.👀

2) It's absolutely IMPOSSIBILE for this thing to exist in the past. Raikou, Suicune and Entei were born after the Burned Tower incident about 150 years ago thanks to Ho-oh bringing them back to life in their new form, they couldn't have ever existed in ancient times.

And with that I rest my case, Your Honor.

It's very obvious that the DLC is going to be very story driven and I'm very excited to see how things will turn out (while on the other hand they could have said something more now instead of finishing the main story in a DLC but welp, they gotta convince you to buy it somehow)

Okay so. I debated even answering this but we're all bored anyway so let's indulge. Recap : you think the FIA orchestrated Massa going public about suing over the 2008 WDC to prevent Merc from doing it over AD 2021.

Let's break this down :

"The FIA"

Who? Who in the FIA? The whole association? The whole-ass association that oversees 200+ national motorsport organizations? All of them are corrupt for some reason? Now in this ask you mention Bernie. You are aware that Bernie doesn't work for the FIA, right? Do you think they had a meeting somehow and decided that Massa suing them would be the best course of action about something that Merc had decided not to sue them over in the first place???

What did they do exactly? Pay Massa to sue them? Pay Massa so he'd PUBLICLY sue them? First of all, how would it be good for them to get sued? Second of all, aren't court proceedings generally public anyway?

There's such a plethora of maps and such a large amount of interpretations that I tend to stick to the main map more-or-less, simply because no fan of a specific District will ever be happy with the placement that others make for them, and in that sense, no map ever can really make fans happy.

This is the canon map that we know of; it has been used as a fan material for the Facebook Game, has been in the Catching Fire movie, and has been posted by the official twitter account.

I can see the Districts being a bit more scattered about with more dead space in between and TBH -- yes, I also find it unrealistic that the Districts are that large and yet supposedly District 12 is only a town. I think we can all agree that Collins' strength is not map making.

To attempt setting a timeframe for Panem, we can go to the Catching Fire map:

The vital parts to look out for are the District 4 lake (California), the District 10 thin part (Texas) and the District 11 inward sea (Louisiana).

I think they all more or less are represented when we rise the sea level to 50 metres (164 feet):

The problem is, that is insanely extreme. As in, the sea level will rise a "mere" 10 metres (3.2 feet) by 2300 (source).

So, if we go solely by map, Panem is set a loooong while after 2300.

And it's questionable whether that is an accurate measurement; I doubt Lionsgate put even an inch of thought into the map they created and what sort of date it would have. No matter the catastrophes that are happening, thinking 200 years back seems like a very, very different time and the advancements made since then (in my opinion) are far more rapid than whatever Panem has been doing. Their bioengineering is strong, sure, but I don't feel like that is what Collins intended.

Collins wanted Panem to feel further away and yet a scary future that we would want to avoid. Many technological elements in Panem are weird, but not weird in a Star Trek kind of sense. I don't think she intended for Panem to be in a distant 2600 kind of setting. The Hunger Games was not meant to have a specific time, and the impossibility of predicting such a sea level rise, imo, speaks to that. Panem should feel odd and yet familiar, far away and yet close by. I, personally, don't have that relationship with the number 2300 or 2600.

Onto the Capitol's location:

As pointed out, we know the following:

In school, they tell us the Capitol was built in a place once called the Rockies.

But we also know this:

The mountains form a natural barrier between the Capitol and the eastern districts. It is almost impossible to enter from the east except through the tunnels.

This would locate the Capitol to the West of the Rocky Mountains.

Especially with the movies we have one obvious answer where the Capitol is located, because the movies add another detail: the lake.

And there's only really one place that could host the Capitol; Salt Lake City.

I actually really like the idea of Salt Lake City being the new spot in Capital. It makes a lot of sense with,,, the Capitol being a little bit odd, so to say and I personally enjoy the thought that some Mormon ideas influenced the creation of Panem. Mormon religion does talk about an apocalypse like scenario. Of course, that is not to say that this inevitably happens, but hey... it's a fun thing.

Onto District 12's location:

As for District 12, I am less certain about this, partly because I'm no D12 girl. But I've heard more than once about the theory of the Seam people being descendants of the Melungeon people. This would situate District 12 around the Cumberland Gap area.

If we keep around the Kentucky border, we would also be right in the spot where coal is being mined today, at least according to this report from EIA:

With all of that information, I would situate District 12 somewhere around here, likely a bit larger than the circle, but its centre could be within the circled area:

Do we stay or do we go

i have a serious question to my brother and sisters, all those stolen of africa and those that immigrated from their of their own volition and the generations that came after.

ive been doing a lot of listening to the goings on in the world, and ive been learning of our past and our history and philosophy and i have a question that we of the diaspora(not counting the islands in many regards and you'll see why) have not seemed to really be able to qive a definitive response to in the over 200 years since i've first seen this question be raised, and yes the context is different today from when it was first asked, and you may have guess what the question really is.

Do we stay and fight this oncoming wave of fascism and antiblackness that is sweeping through Europe and its settler states that it spawned? or do we turn towards Africa and the carribean nations?

I dont feel i need to say this, its very clearly not a "well if you dont like america, go back to africa" situation. but what im saying is, the western experiment, is falling apart at the seams, im sure we all see it at this point, most the other black folks i speak to are feeling pretty jumpy about it rn, my mother and my great aunt who hate each other and agree on nothing, are getting real strong get out vibes and pushing everyone to have passports. it feels like no matter where we look the white world is trying to position itself as being oppositional to and a defense against POC, the far right is gaining major traction enough in germany they are considering banning a political party(which they should) and that not to speak on much the rest of europe, which is trying to convince us not to be worried about the dudes waving nazi flags and making claims about russians being asian and thus being less human, american police violence just keeps going up to the point we aren't even safe in our own four walls, and much like the past they kill you and then take everything you owned so your family doesn't even get anything. france is proving how much distain it has for the people of africa living in its borders and the cops there are mad that they can't do even more extrajudicial violence against brown people. you got in nearly every EU nation at this point 1 or more parties who's whole thing is "we hate poc and immigrants and lgbt people" and they seem to be gaining support more than losing it.

so i guess im saying, is it worth staying in these places that just hate us? even when there is another place we can potentially go to that doesn't require us to do colonizer shit?

like don't get me wrong i get the idea, we been in x place 200, 300, 400 years why should i leave, my great grandpa had people like that in his life, they didnt make it long. but like you or i most likely aren't anywhere near where our families started in america or britian or france etc,(tho for us in settler states that shit gets even more complicated tbh) chances are your family much like mine has been pushed and pulled across the place to the point that we are damn near nomadic, we are the most if not the second most poverty stricken group in these places, we are more likely to be charged more for half par services goods and the state just refuses to support use to the extent where vast swaths of us are in food desert, areas with low access to internet services and more issues. i dont feel like we really leaving much behind except of course the friends and extended families we have made(which tbh is huge).

This shit sounds super doom and gloom and im aware of that, this isnt really for me to present a sunshine are roses situation, in fact i am really putting that on who ever sees this. if you can read what i laid out here and feel you have something constructive to say one way or the other, i wanna hear it. like i really want to hear both sides, this topic been around a long time, i feel its really about to become super relevent again and i'd like for as many of us to have discussed and thought about this as physically possible(talk to your families and friends about this too, they dont have to come reply)

Hi! I just saw your ask where you say you don’t see Gwyn + Az as very compatible right now and I agree. Honestly, the reasons I don’t see them together are also why I don’t see him with Elain. Gwyn wasn’t scared of him because a) he killed rapists, not random people on the street, and b) by killing them, he was protecting her and the rest of the people at the temple. She has literally no reason at all to fear him right now. He has been aggressive around her, not toward her.

I don’t know why people believe this means she’ll be fine with him torturing people as part of his job, especially if there’s a chance they’re innocent and can’t actually tell him anything. I don’t think she’ll be scared of him or judge him for having to kill during a war or a fight - she’s literally training to be a warrior. But SJM hasn’t really given us any indicators that she has a darkness in her that will match Azriel even a little bit.

That’s why I saw him with someone much older (I’m talking 200-300 years old) who has seen darkness like that and knows how to manage. I know Gwyn is almost 30, but even Rhys (the most powerful High Lord to ever live), who has known Az since they were kids, says Az scares him sometimes… it’s honestly ridiculous to believe she’ll get to know the real him and not fear him at all, even if they’re mates and she knows he won’t hurt her.

If they’re endgame, I just hope it’s not a book where a young woman has to basically just deal with it and learn to live with someone who scares her or where Azriel loses his edge and becomes a lapdog. His edge is what makes him interesting to me - without that he’s really just a quieter, more boring version of Rhys.

The reason I’m saying this on anon is because some Gwynriels have started moving like Elriels and it’s getting obnoxious. Analysis is fun, but doing all that over a fictional ship… just nah.

I am sure that Az will resolve some of his main issues, especially his lack of self worth and his anger towards the Illyrians, but he has 500+ years of some heavy baggage. If Nesta wasn't able to do a complete 360 in her novel (because SJM didn't want to make her healing completely unrealistic) than I hope Az doesn't either, becoming some entirely new character by the end of it.

On that, I'm with you, I think Az would be pretty boring if he was suddenly full of light and happiness and retained none of his darkness. People don't really go through went he went through without it resulting in a little madness and I don't think a healing arc can wipe that away completely.

Regardless of finding his Mate, Rhys still plots behind the scenes, deciding the course of action then informing everyone at the last minute. It's the thing that makes him half extremely cunning and calculating and the other half asshole (I say that lovingly) because there's always someone who should have been told beforehand but ended up somewhat screwed over as a result. It's not that it's done selfishly, he really wants to just solve everyone's problems without involving them. And he usually does choose the best course of action to solve those problems but we often see someone who feels he should have told them (Feyre, Mor, Nesta).

So I would hope that Azriel still retains what makes him, him. Because that darkness is fascinating and the fact that he only lets the most powerful High Lord in Prythian's history see that side of him is kind of a big thing. Feyre mentions being a little freaked out by Az, Rhys says Az has scared him, Mor was obviously very shaken by Az's actions with Eris.

So, if SJM keeps him true to character (while still giving him a journey of healing and acceptance), that means his ideal Mate would be someone who could witness the dark depths Az sinks into and not be scared of him. If Rhys, who rules over the Hewn City and has no issues witnessing the torture of their enemies has the occasional moment where he's scared of Az, then really, what female have we met that wouldn't feel that at all? Rhys knows Az would never hurt him yet he still feels that way. To Gwyn, Az is a hero. But what would SF Gwyn think if she were to witness him attacking Eris in a political meeting for no real good reason? What would she think if she saw him sink into those dark depths while strapping someone to a chair and cutting them up for information? Because that's not quite the same thing as slaughtering people who are in the middle of causing you and your loved ones physical harm.

I 100% feel that Gwyn is a match for the lighter parts of Az in a way that no other female has been. Elain would never push him out of his comfort zone while I imagine Gwyn would, she wouldn't be deterred by his first response which is to deflect. Elain isn't competitive in the way Az and Gwyn are so they share something that would make their interactions playful and fun. Elain likes socializing while both Az and Gwyn (while caring for their close friends) do seem very comfortable with solitude. But honestly, the only females that come to mind that would be an amazing match for Azriel's darkness are Manon or Nesta. Probably Manon more but Nesta because she didn't bat an eye over the thought of Az torturing people and she picked up TT and beheaded the King of Hybern after he was already incapacitated and she sort of sunk into a blank state while doing it. That's not someone who shies away from gory revenge 😂

SJM could have written Cassian to be a puppy dog with Nesta the entire series. Where Nesta was constantly biting and he only ever playfully nipped. But she gave Cassian teeth and he bit right back at times. They both said some pretty terrible things to one another because SJM didn't want to create a major imbalance in their relationship. She wanted to show that Cassian was the right male for Nesta because he too could lash out as she could. Yes, Cassian is definitely the softer of the pair but he wasn't just constantly meeting Nesta's harshness with soft words of affirmation and understanding. He had a few asshole moments.

So does it really make sense that if Gwyn is his Mate, she's going to be the plucky, cheerful girl who would never be dark like Az but is his constant cheerleader for all his torture sessions and darkness which scares the other characters at times? Right now Gwyn is a lot like Mor and Elain in terms of her bright optimism. And I'm not saying she should lose that. But, if Mor and Elain aren't good matches for Azriel's darkness than what about Gwyn will be? This bright, curious, playful, sweet, female who has hope of a better and braver world for herself. Is SJM going to have her meet Azriel halfway for the place he at times sinks too? Or should Az only ever be destined to have a female who is willing to accept that side of him but doesn't really understand it because she would never tie someone down and exact a slow revenge while they're defenseless (which is not the same as killing the enemy in battle)?

I do think Gwyn is the right kind of female for who Az will be 60-70% of the time and I haven't seen that from anyone else (in terms of how the characters have developed through SF). But I think some in the fandom (on both sides of the ship war) wash away the extreme darkness SJM has told us he has and I've yet to see any real contenders in the series who could match that side of him. Not just accept it, but at times feels that darkness and rage too.

From my own experience, when someone is trying very hard to get something, they don't. And when they're running away from something as hard as they can, it usually catches up with them. I'm generalizing, of course.

Recently my wife and I agreed our pillows were going bad and it was time to order new ones. By going bad, I mean, sleep was a little worse, you sometimes wake up with the slightest of headaches.

We are at the point in our lives where we prefer the $200 Tempurpedic pillows. We have been at this point for the past decade or so. You need to replace these type of pillows from time to time. Probably every year, every other years tops. It's probably been 3 or 4 for us at the moment though.

She ordered them, shipping was 2 days. OK, we can make it, just a couple of sleeps until the sweet relief of new pillows. I was really looking forward to it.

A couple days later, I get home from work. There's a big box by the door, it's the new pillows!

Later that evening I noticed she has opened the box and the pillows are wrapped in plastic, sitting on our bed. But we each go about our business, getting the things we each need done on this Thursday night. She and my youngest son are packing for a soccer tournament in Jacksonville they are leaving for directly after school. I'm sort of doing my own thing.

Around ten she says she's ready for bed and I agree. She says she needs help getting the plastic off the new pillows. I remove the plastic from both while asking her what pillow cases are we going to use. Just going to take the pillow case of the old pillow, she says.

I leave to throw away the plastic wrap and use the bathroom one last time. I turn off the light in the master bathroom, and she is already in bed with the lights off in our bed. I walk from the bathroom to the bed in the dark like I often do. Sure, I could leave the light on in the bathroom, walk to our bed, turn on the lamp on my nightstand, walk back the the bathroom, turn the light off, walk back to our bed, turn off my lamp and get into bed. But I've seemed to manage just making the walk from the bathroom to the bed in the dark, so that's what I do.

As I approach the bed in the dark, I think I remember her making a comment about how nice the pillow is. I remember thinking they seemed big so I asked her if she's still using an under pillow underneath, and she says yes.

I get into bed, and something feels weird, what this by our legs, I ask. That's your pillow, she says. Oh, I say and kick it off on the ground. That's your new pillow, she says, and it doesn't have a pillow case on it. Oh, I say again, I guess I'll deal with it tomorrow. She says, did you need me to put the pillow case on it? No, say, I'll do it tomorrow.

I was sort of surprised because I assumed she was setting up both new pillows. I really wanted to use my new pillow, but I was already lying down with the lights off. I'd have to get up, turn on the lights and swap pillow cases. I'd need the lights because for whatever reason I find it tricky to the pillow case lined up just right and didn't think I could do that in the dark. I don't know, I was probably being dumb, but in that moment, I didn't want to get out of bed and do that.

She says, you can't leave that on the floor without a pillow case, that' a brand new $200 pillow. What do you want me to do with, I ask. I mean, put in on the dresser at least, she says. It'll be fine, I say. She lays there for a beat, then gets out of bed and walks around to my side. An unusual move for her; once she's in bed, she's in bed.

I think she's getting up to grab my new pillow to put the pillow case on. I get up at the same and say I will get it. She beats me to it and says she's got it. She takes the new pillow from the floor and puts it on the dresser and goes back to bed. I lay back down.

Again, I feel dumb. I really want my new pillow. But I also don't want to get out of bed, turn on my lamp and swap pillow cases. So I just lie there on my old pillow.

I wake up the next day, 48 minutes before my alarm to the slight headache feeling my old pillow has given me one last time. After my wife wakes up, I ask her how the new pillow was. Great, she says.

I go out for my run, a 3 mile race pace run, which includes a 1 mile warmup and half mile cool down. That is, not an easy pace. That is, not a run that is ideal for working off a headache for someone who doesn't eat breakfast.

Later that morning, I take the pillow case from my old pillow cast and put it on my new pillow, put my new pillow on the bed, never to use my old pillow again.

Orion opened the letter in his barracks, he was surprised Creon even knew where he was stationed.

He stared at the letter re-reading it again and again. Surely this was a horrible joke? Surely Nehemiah hadn't demanded the both of them?!

But of course it was something their dear sister would do. He could see her look as she'd penned the letter to Creon. Her eyes like their mother's not taking a no for an answer.

He shoved the guilt, he'd tore into her 200 years ago when she'd come to see him in those cells. How dare she come here? How dare she see him like that? How dare she mate the things that they were fighting against?!

All she'd done was apologized, trying to hold his hand. He'd burned her, had spat her - said every horrible thing he could think till she'd been hysterical. Till Galan had come to drag her away and not listened when she demanded he be free to.

Perhaps their parents had told her he'd calmed down. Or that he'd wondered how she was doing. He hadn't thought it would come to this. But of course it wouldn't it? The Asteri in Midgard was the bulwark against the demons across the sea. A wall and wards seperated them but Midgard was the first line of defense.

He couldn't imagine sometimes how powerful Galan's family had to be to be the Emperor of the Asteri and keep the Council of Asteri in the Eternal City in check.

He couldn't imagine what his willful, hopeful, and beautiful sister had seen in something like Galan. He wouldn't put it past the snake to charm and keep his sister.

He played with his food, his frown more pronounced.

"According to my brother's letter she's hoping Helena and Rigelus hit it off and marry."

He rolled his eyes stabbing at his food.

"A barbaric tradition right? I mean I have no idea what Helena wants. And I can't even stomach the idea of even meeting her you know? Gods, I hope she isn't some vapid socialite."

He had shared some things about his family life, the small insights that she could gain when he wouldn't completely shut down. This brief insights to who he was, how he came to be who he was.

"You had mentioned it in passing." She confirmed. Despite everything his family had been through, the little he had shared, they had found their footing again. Deep in the ranks of the Asteri.

Bryce folded her arms as she leaned forwards, her head tilted slightly as she mulled over what he was saying.

There were connections. She sat back, nodding slightly as she made note of what he was saying, this would mean she probably would cross paths with Juniper.

"Barbaric, but they are not our own. If that was the case I am sure my father would have married off the moment I started looking at boys," she countered before she took a sip of her drink. "You don't really have to met her, you can attend if you want but keep your distance."

if you do go public, Kenma will invite you into his livestream and play a co-op game with you.

Kenma nonchalantly says he has a partner that will be joining him in one of live streams in a few days

Many people don't believe him because of how he says it, but those same people still drop in.

The day you're going to be his livestream, Kodzuken gets one of the highest viewed streams he's ever had

but some people are slightly disappointed because they only hear your voice the entire time.

After you brought up that you wanted to go public, Kenma agreed, but after having a long chat with Kuroo about it, he proposed an idea to you that you don't show your face right away and instead only your voice just for awhile.

This is mainly for your safety as he doesn't know how his fans will react

so Kenma has you slowly reveal yourself to his fans and by the time you show your face, everyone is pretty comfortable with you and vice versa.

It's all chill. You're all one very big happy family.

Another reason why Kenma wanted you to only reveal your voice first is that if you decided that you did not want to fully disclose yourself to the world, you could easily back out.

as you can tell he put a lot of thought into this and it's because he loves you very much.

Here's a random headcannon in inside these headcannons: Kenma likes to hide some things in his livestreams like little easter eggs and hints for upcoming plans that his followers may not know about yet. He personally finds it more fun that way and enjoys thinking of how to incorporate those hidden things into his streams.

With that in mind, he may or may not eventually hint at what you look like in some of his livestreams using that method.

And Kenma does this with your permission, of course.

It was only after you did a face reveal that Kenma's followers realized that he had been hinting at your appearance for quite some time before your face reveal was even announced.

or he just leaves them around your place for you to find since he still gets a little shy around you.

The majority of these gifts are not at all expensive though.

Kenma just tries to make sure that all of them are meaningful to you.

After Kenma ends a livestream, he often comes over to you and plop his head into your lap.

He may or may not put your hand in his hair because he wants you to run your fingers through it.

You always know when Kenma has talked to Hinata on the phone because he always tell you "Shoyo says hi" afterwards.

'Shoyo says hi' even if he hasn't meet you yet. He's just really happy Kenma has a partner and is excited to get to know you.

In one part of the one shot, Kenma goes to Brazil to meet up with Hinata for a collaboration offered by Kuroo (who mentioned it in the very last volume, I believe)

and Kenma asks you to come with him.

He makes sure that you don't have to worry about any of the details and it's not at all stressful for you.

If you do come, he will somehow get you to play beach volleyball with him and Hinata during that livestream even if it's just for one game.

Kenma doesn't travel too much, so it's kinda like a little vacation for the two of you with a small bit of work involved for Kenma.

Kuroo comes over for dinner at least once a month, but occasionally he comes over earlier in the day and hangs out with Kenma.

One time you went to run an errand and you came back to find a bunch of members of Kenma's high school volleyball team just chilling in the living room.

Korekiyo Shinguuji

He, albeit with a frown beneath his mask, explained how most people enjoy it when they're told in an aesthetically pleasing setting.

"Aesthetics allow for such an intimate moment to be memorable and heartfelt."

So, you did just that. Around a week afterwards, you asked to meet him in a public garden, to which he agreed.

It was around twilight, and you stood in a section secluded from everyone else.

He gasped when you explained to him that you had feelings for him, and you were asking for advice to confess to him.

Coincidentally, you were in the rose section. He plucked a rose off of the ground and placed it behind your ear.

"A sly move, S/o, but I reciprocate your feelings."

He walked you home that night, and didn't leave without nuzzling the top of your forehead.

Ryoma Hoshi

He kinda raised a brow when you asked him

"You sure you're asking the right person? Fine, uh.. Tell 'em you love 'em over dinner."

Of course he was internally upset that you didn't feel the same, but he had already accepted it.

When you asked him to get dinner together, he was confused, but accepted the invitation.

It wasn't necessarily anything fancy. It was a diner that served delicious food despite its shabby decorations.

When you both were eating dessert, you finally spilled what you've been wanting to say for a long time now.

A moment passed, but he finally chuckled.

"Wow. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I feel the same, S/o."

The smile he gave was the first genuine one in years.

Nagito Komaeda

Accepted that you didn't feel the same a long time ago, so when you asked him he gave a painful smile.

"Confess to them in the way you think fits."

You went the cheesy romance route and asked him to meet you on the rooftop after school.

When he saw you there, he was really confused.

When you confessed, he almost started crying.

"You deserve better than trash like me! I'm filthy and worthless compared to the hope that shines so brightly within you!"

After he calms down, he'll lean his head against you and ask you if you truly meant it.

When you say yes, he'll be quiet for once.

"If you truly insist, S/o.. I feel the same way."

After you tell him like five times that it's okay, he'll hold your hand and ensure you get home safely.

Gundham Tanaka

His mouth noticeably flickers to a frown that's different from his resting scowl. One almost.. sad?

Before you say anything about it, he cuts you off.

"Mortals seem to enjoy it when they are serenaded with song."

You run off after thanking him and he attempts to settle his unrequited feelings by spending time with his Devas.

The next day before he returns home, you grab his hand.

After you sing your emotions out to him, he looks confused and frustrated at the same time.

"What.. is this..? I assumed you were speaking of a mortal being! How foolish of me.."

It was pretty obvious that he felt the same, with his reddened lower face hidden in his scarf.

You bring him back home without a word spoken between you two.

Don't worry! He confirmed your suspicions of his emotions before you kissed his cheek.

Writing Prompt: Since Mathew didn’t approve of Marcus choosing a human as a mate. Marcus turns to Baldwin to ask for help about proposing to Phoebe.

(Mathew behaviour to Marcus in the tv show and the books really annoyed me. The blatant favouritism towards Jack and that he barley praised or thanked Marcus for all he did during the second season/books. Marcus definitely needs more love).

Matthew needs to read a few parenting books and see a good therapist because he fully traumatised his eldest child lol. Baldwin reluctantly has to take care of his nephew.

"Uncle?" Marcus popped his head in Baldwin's office.

"What?" Baldwin asked, not looking up from his work.

He clapped his hands, whilst leaning back and forth on his heels, and Baldwin finally looked up, sensing his impatience and hesitation.

"I need your help." Marcus finally said.

"Dear God, what have you done now?"

"Must you always think the worst of me?" Marcus frowned.

"Over 200 years of history leads me to."

"Well, I want to ask Phoebe to marry me. Officially." Baldwin looked surprised as he absorbed, "You weren't expecting that, were you?"

He always was the wildcard.

"Frankly, no. Wow." Baldwin put down his pen and looked at his nephew. He had met Miss Taylor a few times. She was brave for a human surrounded by creatures. An intelligent and diligent historian and researcher, knowledgeable in the art. A worthy addition to the family.

Even Philippe would've tried to turn her. Depending on when she had been born, of course.

"Why do you need help?" Baldwin asked curiously, "And why are you asking me?"

"Well, I am not sure exactly how to do it." Marcus said, "And well, you are the head of the family."

"I've never mated. Your father just got married." Baldwin pointed out.

"To a witch. Not exactly a traditional vampire relationship." Marcus retorted, then took a seat, "Help? Please?"

"What were you thinking?"

"I mean, doing the whole brooding, devotional thing that we traditionally do, I don't think will work."

"That is how vampires love," Baldwin said.

"Yes, but Phoebe isn't a vampire yet. And she's a 21st Century woman. I doubt she wants a speech about how I want to possess her for eternity." Marcus said.

"No." Baldwin agreed. Considering she seemed to think most vampire relationship customs, such as not shaking the hand of other vampires were strange, he doubted that would work.

"Why not be honest with her? Most humans do that, just tell her that you love her. She's agreed, for some reason to change for you. So be honest."

"Why do we keep all of this?" Marcus asked as he led him to a room full of de Clermont artefacts from over the centuries.

"Some of its of value, most of it sentimental," Baldwin said.

"Phoebe would have a field day in here," Marcus mused, picking up a dusty powdered wig, "I remember this wig! My first."

Baldwin huffed what one might call a laugh, before opening one of the safes. He pulled out a few boxes and placed them on a small table.

"Oh, I remember this," Marcus said, looking over the lot with interest. "It was part of a prize I won in a card game." It was at a gentlemen's club. London, from what he can remember. He emptied a small velvet bag. Emeralds, still worth a small fortune.

"Yes, I think she'll love it." Marcus smiled, holding the gems in his palm.

"I know a jeweller we can take it to. They did a lot of the jewellery Philippe had made for Ysabeau." Baldwin said, "You may also get a necklace, some earrings out of it."

"She hates me spending a lot of money on her, " Marcus said.

"So don't tell her." Baldwin shrugged, "And you own the stones, so it isn't as extravagant as she fears."

"Oh, Marcus?" Baldwin handed him a jewellery box, "For Phoebe." He opened it curiously.

"Those were set aside for when you found your mate, by Philippe. Phoebe can pick and choose which ones she'd like to keep, though I suspect she may find more interest in the box than the contents."

"Philippe set these aside for me?" Baldwin nodded. Marcus was confused. When Philippe was alive, he was a notorious lothario, the opposite of his restrained father. He didn't think Philippe believed he would mate.

"Of course he did." Baldwin said gently, "He was optimistic about all of us, even if he didn't show it."

"Thank you, uncle," Marcus said sincerely, with a small smile.

"Don't thank me yet. Miss Taylor may come to her senses and agree not to marry you." Baldwin replied with a faint smile.
