“I was told there’d be cookies.” Dustin interrupted, flashing Steve another smug grin that made the teen want to shove him into a snowbank. “Yeah, for her.” Steve pointed at you. “Not for you.”

Summary: steve is pathetically in love with you and for some reason the universe hates him and continues to pray on his downfall. typical.

Steve has never had the best timing.

When he first manned up to ask you out, it had coincidentally been the same day your childhood dog died.

There he had been, flowers in hand and a proud smile on his face when he knocked on your front door, completely taken aback when you answered with tears streaming down your face.

Immediately, Steve’s smile had dropped and he quickly pulled you close to inspect for any injuries or pain. “Y/N? What happened, is everything okay?”

“My dog died.” You wailed, even more tears spilling over.

“Oh my god–”

“He… He didn’t suffer. He was old and–” You had sniffed, looking so small and frail in your heartbreak, before spotting the flowers in Steve’s hand. You gasped. “H–How did you know?”

Steve had been confused for a moment, but when he followed your gaze to the flowers that were originally meant to be “please be my girlfriend” flowers, his heart dropped.

Well fuck.

“Yes…” He cleared his throat. “I, uh. Had a hunch?”

You threw your arms around Steve, the flowers then crushed between you two, but he hadn't paid any attention to them as he wrapped his arms tightly around you. After a few seconds, you placed your lips by his ear and whispered, “You’re the sweetest.”

The sincerity in your voice had made Steve want to vomit.

He hadn’t had a hunch that your childhood dog would die that day, but what else was he supposed to say? Hey, sorry your dog died, do you want to kiss now? Absolutely not.

Steve is many things, and oftentimes he is an idiot, but he isn’t that much of an idiot.

So, instead of asking you to be his girlfriend, Steve had instead spent the next three hours at your house as he consoled you and watched your favorite movie to cheer you up. While it hadn’t been his ideal outcome, Steve had still been happy to simply spend time with you. Besides, you had needed him at that moment, so of course Steve was right there by your side.

Life moved on, a few weeks passed, and eventually Steve decided to try again.

You had no more animals to possibly lose, Christmas was approaching, and Steve was determined that this time he’d be able to ask you out.

After buying you some chocolate and planning a fort building night on Christmas Eve, Steve had been sure that the night would go perfectly. There was a beautiful rose pendant bracelet sitting atop of his dresser in his room, wrapped and ready for you to open.

Steve’s plan was foolproof.

Build a fort, watch a cheesy Christmas movie, bake some cookies and drink hot chocolate, and then boom: Steve would ask you to be his girlfriend.

However, Steve really should’ve known better.

His parents had left that day and he had spent the entire time cleaning the house and preparing all the snacks before your arrival. At six on the dot, his doorbell rang and Steve eagerly ran over to answer the door.

There, standing on his front doorstep, had been you with a smug looking Dustin Henderson.

“What’s the kid doing here?” Steve had asked, all his hope now coming crashing down upon him.

You winced. “I know we made plans, I’m so sorry, but his mom asked me to babysit him and she offered me the rest of the money I need for your Christmas gift and–”

“I was told there’d be cookies.” Dustin interrupted, flashing Steve another smug grin that made the teen want to shove him into a snowbank.

“Yeah, for her.” Steve pointed at you. “Not for you.”

“Stevie, I promise I’ll make it up to you later.” You groaned at him, and Steve knew you hated disappointing him. “Can we please just come inside? It’s cold and I was really excited for the fort.”

There are many times when Steve wonders just how he manages to get himself into obscure situations. That night, when he had Dustin Henderson wedged between you and him underneath a super romantic and cute fort that he had spent hours building, had been one of those times where Steve questioned his entire life.

At that point, Steve was starting to wonder if he’d ever manage to ask you out in the first place.

A few more weeks passed after that and you were still his best friend and nothing had changed between you two, but now Steve found himself constantly biting his tongue around you. He was so fucking in love with you, he had been for years, but after two failed attempts of confessing his feelings: it was becoming impossible to hold them in.

Then, late January, your birthday came along.

This time, Steve was sure that he had it all figured out.

You had wanted to grab some dinner at the local diner you loved, and Steve thought that a small, toned down proposal to date would be perfect. He’d give you your birthday gift (a matching set of earrings for the rose bracelet you now wore every day), he’d order you the strawberry shortcake you adored, and when you weren’t looking, Steve would ask the waitress to write “happy birthday, my love” on the cake.

Steve was a goddamn romantic genius, honestly.

Except that isn’t what happened.

What actually ended up happening was the waitress somehow hearing “my love” as “Milo” and Steve had wanted to bash his fucking skull in.

“Who’s ‘Milo’?” You had asked once the cake came out, confusion evident on your face.

Steve, now used to nothing ever working out in his favor, had simply sighed and said, “Who knows, man. Just eat your cake.”

You had giggled, and the sound was enough to cheer Steve up a bit. Sure, it was looking more and more like the world didn’t want you with him, but at least he got to hear your laugh and admire the way your eyes shined whenever you looked at him.

Now, a few weeks later, it’s Valentine’s Day and Steve is terrified that he will somehow set your house on fire with his horrible luck.

He has spent the last two months trying to ask you out. Now, on the day of love itself, Steve is almost too terrified to even approach you. At the rate he’s going, if he tries to ask you out again, he’ll end up telling you he hates you or something.

He’s miserable.

Which is how he finds himself once again outside your door, except there’s no flowers in his hands, and he knocks.

You guys haven’t made any plans tonight, but it’s Valentine’s Day and Steve is so in love with you that it hurts.

The second his knuckles leave the door, you swing the door wide open and jump into his arms. “Stevie!”

Surprised by such an affectionate reaction, Steve almost falls into the bushes in front of your house. “Woah, hey!”

He steadies the two of you and you simply squeeze him tighter and giggle. You’re in an exceptionally good mood, almost too good of a mood, and Steve’s hands are sweating. He hadn’t exactly come here with a game plan in mind.

“Happy to see me, I take it?” He mumbles into your ear.

“Duh,” you press a kiss to his cheek. “It’s Valentine’s Day, why wouldn’t I be excited to see my boyfriend?”

This time, Steve actually does fall into the bush behind him.

“Oh my god,” you run over and quickly try to help the boy up, but Steve is staring up at the night sky, overcome with pure shock and fear. “Stevie? Steve!”

Steve lays there, motionless as you continue to tug at his jacket. “How long have I been your boyfriend, Y/N?”

At his question, you stop tugging and look at him, confused. “I don’t know, honestly. How long has it been since the fourth of July?”

“The fourth?” Steve sputters. “Y/N, it’s Valentine’s Day and I’m just now finding out you’re my girlfriend?”

“Oh, you didn’t know?”

“No!” Steve finally scrambles out of the bushes and grabs your face with his hands. He feels insane, his hands are shaking a bit as he holds onto you. “When did this happen?”

You scrunch your eyebrows together. “On the fourth. We saw the fireworks, cuddled on the picnic blanket you stole from your mom, you grabbed my hand, and then told me you never wanted this to end. I just… I assumed you meant our relationship?”

Steve blinks. “You… You are the love of my life, Y/N L/N.”

“Well, I’d hope so–” Suddenly Steve’s lips are against yours and he’s kissing you with everything he has within him. All those months of pining after you, all the times he’s failed in asking you to be his, and this entire time you had somehow been his all along.

God, he is so stupidly in love with you.

He nips at your bottom lip and you make a sound that’s so soft and sweet in the back of your throat that has Steve’s head spinning. He nips again, revels in the breathy sigh you release against his lips, and Steve’s hand tugs harshly against your waist.

The kiss is perfect and everything he’s ever dreamed of.

Then, a thought occurs to Steve.

“Wait a minute,” he breaks the kiss and your love drunk expression almost makes him groan. He tells himself to focus, even though it’s incredibly difficult to do so. “If we’ve been supposedly dating since July, didn’t you wonder why I hadn’t kissed you yet?”

“Oh, I just thought you were shy.” You shrug, as if it’s no big deal. Then, with a teasing smile, you add, “And I guess I love you too.”

Steve decides, then and there, that you will be the death of him.

And he couldn’t be any happier as he pulls you in again for another bruising kiss.

Afterall, Steve has about seven months to make up for lost time.

You lived in a quiet little down, nothing went down, nothing unusual happened. The morning birds chirped blissfully while they watched from above. Sitting down near a pond while nature flutters around you, just admiring the gente ripples going to and across the water. As of late, there was an investigation of a possible rogue wanted ability user resting up in your down, having sent the best military dogs to find them. That's how you met Jouno Saigiku, full of pride and always with a smile. You were one of the people he questioned, however you took note your questioning took longer than the other people in your town. You shrugged it off as maybe they were just faster in their answers but some of those questions did get a little personal. Even his wording was a bit off, “you’re one of the people who I would kill to protect.”

Again, you didn't want to say anything. You shook off the thought, they’re only gonna be here for a limited time and most likely never again so you didnt concern yourself too much. The day went on as usual, nothing really standing out. Everyother breath and step felt like you were being monitored even if it was in direct sunlight. Sometimes you’d even bump into that man again, Jouno, his tone was kindly spoken, however the words not really. Quick to turn to something dark humored but you gave a little laugh. You still respected him because he was here for a reason.

You did notice weird shifting while trailing to go home, a hand quickly reached out to grab you and pull you away from your destination. You failed to scream out in time and everything else fell in darkness.

You woke up dizzy, as you were in an unfamiliar place, the light was awful on your eyes, closing them up and squinting. The person who kidnapped you gave an awful smile as he told you, you weren’t gonna live long. Your eyes were watering, heart pouring out fear with every beat. Not a lot of details were spared to you, the guy simply going off while you’re stuck to a chair in an unfamiliar place. You tried to calm down and eventually started to lightly sleep, there's really nothing else you could do. However, before you could fully fall asleep you heard shouting and banging, it jolted you up, staring at the door where the noise was coming from. In all honesty you couldn't help but let out a small scream. You swallowed nervously, looking down at the floor and gaining some sense of calm. Trying to breathe in and out slowly despite the tremble in your breathing. Finally the door opened, you could hear faint drops of something hitting the floor while footsteps were walking towards you. “What a shame we meet like this again.” that voice, it was gentle.

You look up and see Jouno, gasping seeing the state his clothes are in, while the red of the uniform was able to hide it well, the blood on his face was clear on what happened. He chuckled as he closed in, freeing you from your binds. “If it's not clear already, I wasn't lying about what I said earlier, I did say I would kill for someone like you.”

You were confused but chose to stay silent while he helped you up, the smile on his face never shifting while you were gathering your thoughts. “Maybe it seems you deserve to be more secluded so this doesn't happen again hm?”

Nothing was making sense on what he was saying but you still were stunned to speak, the exhaustion of everything was getting to you and it was impacting your will to think properly.

Jouno obviously notices and sits you down, while you lean on his shoulder and close your eyes while your breathing gets calmer.

The next place you wake up, it wasn't your house again, Jouno was by your side, holding his head up with his hand. You were even more confused about what was going on. Yet Jouno only gave a smile and straightened his posture. “From now on, you’ll be staying here, it's just a precaution.”

This didn't help your confusion, you knew something was being hidden but you didn't want to push anything. “Afterall, I am just worried since you walked off and got yourself caught by the person we were looking for, just a magnet for trouble.”

You were getting overwhelmed again and you started bumbling questions on when you would get to go home, Jouno got a little closer and started to whisper, ” you’re never leaving here, you’ll be under my surveillance. After all, don't you prefer something else over the sorry mess you called a home back there?, you almost got killed, I don't want that happening again, you were defenseless in there.”

You started to raise your voice in disbelief, tears building up as the stress was becoming too much for you to handle. Yet all Jouno could give back in response was just a few simple words, "I love it when you scream and it's all because of me." making you silent before continuing. “I couldn't help myself the first time I heard your scream, shame it behind that door, it was lovely to listen to.”

two of hearts, the prank, and the moon | remus lupin x f!reader

Summary : you were apart of the prank, but in the process, you turned into a werewolf but now remus hates you (and sirius)

Warning : angst, happy ending, pet names like 'love'

"Severus!" James screamed, immediately pulling him out of the shrieking shack, but in the process, turning into a human. You and sirius looked at each other. You two messed up.

Remus came howling at the two boys, and running to them. Sirius tried to use his wand but, nothing worked.

James was your bestfriend, although severus was not, you didn't want him to die, so, you did the unthinkable and the most stupid thing in the world.

You thought that if you stood in front of the two, James and severus would be alright, and, you were right, they were alright but, you'll need to pay for it. "REMUS,NO! " James screamed.

That was the last thing you heard other than dog barks, rat sounds, and severus's heavy breathing. That was the last thing you heard before you woke up in the hospital wing.

"Y/n? " Sirius puts his hat down. "Y/n, y/n? You're awake! " Sirius smiled. Though his eyes were a bit dark, he looks happier than ever.

"What happened, siri? " You opened your eyes thoroughly, looking at the bright lanterns around. "Our prank didnt end well, and, i-i think this will be a shock, I think I should tell you after you heal" Sirius Stuttered, his eyes not daring to see yours.

"Tell me, Sirius, it's remus isn't it? He hates me, he hates us right now" You sighed. But to your suprise, Sirius shook his head "way worse than that.. That night, you tried to protect James and severus, and you did, but, well, remus, this isn't remus, but it is remus, remus is not remus when he turns into a werewolf but remus just-"

"Sirius, stop, just tell me" You pulled your blanket, eager to know what Sirius was gonna tell you. "Remus, or, his wolf self, bit you, but, you won't feel it right now, madam pomfrey gave you a lot of painkillers and spells". Suddenly, you didn't want to know.

From that day on, you were a werewolf.

"Does remus know? " You asked, "no" Sirius shrieked. "Does the others know, including Severus? ", " Yes, but, Severus swore not to tell anyone" Sirius said.

"Is remus okay? " You asked, again, Sirius replied "no, not quite" He paused "he's physically alright, but mentally.. Not so alright. Hes been going crazy, talking shit about us, but, we deserve it, well I deserve it, and, don't be surprised if he doesn't want to talk to you for awhile"

Your stomach dropped. You did the wrong thing but, you thought, remus, your best friend, who, you've been flirting with for years, and what you thought was liking each other, hates you now.

"Y/n? " Sirius said. "Sorry, that was just a lot to take in"

From that day forward, you hated yourself more than anything. Most of all, you hated yourself for thinking youre still allowed to love remus and you hate your self for loving remus, after the things he had said.

It was as if the full moon was close for, everyday. Remus became an asshole and a sweetheart. But for you and Sirius, he became an absolute asshole. You hated it. You still have a soft spot for him. You still hanged out with the same friends, and slowly it was turning.. Unbareable.

Everyone slowly starts to disappear, Sirius barely being there, remus talking shit and flirting with other girls, which, is fine but, you've had enough.

So slowly, you drifted away from everything, staying in your dorm longer, and what was so unlikely was being friends with Severus.

"You swear you won't tell anyone, about remus, and my condition" You asked. "I won't, and, why do you care so much about remus now, I've seen or, well, everyone has seen, remus has been a git towards you" Severus said.

"Well, I've never really had a friend like him, well, Severus, how about we make wolfsbane" You gave a small smile. "Let's make it then, attempt number 7,i think this is it" Severus smiled.

In the process of making wolfsbane, remus was not having it at all.

Remus scoots over to his bed in the common room. "Didn't know why I'd care for such a bitch anyways" Remus scoffed. "Moony, everyone here knows you don't mean that, you'll never say something like that about y/n" Sirius said, only receiving a shrug.

"Hey, you know sirius's right" James said. "Really? Cause she certainly made me think that I had to pack up and leave Hogwarts. " Remus rolled his eyes. "You know, we're slowly losing and missing her, and, she's know friends with Severus" Peter said. "Pete, I don't care about her, I don't care if she's friends with him".

"Rem, what happened to 'I love her'? " Sirius asked. Everyone's eyes on him, remus replied "w-well I won't say that has changed but, she for sure has changed".

"Moony, y/n loves you and you need to talk to her, the girl has been running like a lost cat searching for its owner, everyday the only thing she asks was if your were okay, if you wanted to talk to her, if-if you knew-" James said, but was cut off by Sirius "that's enough".

"Continue, James". " I can't" James say, but remus forced him to. "That night, she, she tried to protect us, but- it's not your fault but, you accidentally bit her,"

"What? " Remus said, his heart beating faster, his palms were wet, and his faces suddenly becomes pale. Everything became slow. "No, no, how long have you guys- guys knew- know this" Remus was so shooked and scared that, he was not talking proper English anymore.

"Ever since she got bit, Peter, Sirius, Severus and I know, and, she told us not to tell you, and that, it was because you kept avoiding her and talk shit about her that she became friends with the slytherins, because- she felt like a first year to.. To like you, and she hated herself for it, and she said that she felt more like a fan than a friend, and that, Peter, Sirius and I should keep a distance between her and us, she said that, if she keeps hanging out with us, she might mess up even more" Now James weren't even sure he was using the correct grammar or not.

"But, what? She likes me?, and she turned? She, she, where's y/n, I need to talk to her" Remus stood up from his bed, catching the map that Sirius throwed to him.

The library.

Remus never runned as fast as this. He looked for you in Everysection, and there you were. Sitting and reading your favorite book.

"Y/n" He said. "Rem? " Your voice were soft "what are you doing here". " Is checking for a friend a crime? " Remus asked.

You looked away, tears was coming out of your eyes "friends you say, after calling me a slut and what ever things you've said about me".

"Y/n, I'm sorry" Remus said. "What are you sorry for, I'm the one who's supposed to be sorry, I betrayed your trust, and, you- I'm sorry, I really am.. I suppose you know already? " You asked, still not looking at him, even though he was sitting next to you.

"About, uhm, about me biting you? " Remus asked. "Knew you'd find out sooner or later" You accidentally squeaked.

"Y/n, are you crying? " Remus asked. "No, I'm not crying" You sobbed, even more. "Hey, y/n, y/n, love, look at me" He said, grabbing your hand.

"I'm sorry, Remus, im really am sorry, I swear I didn't mean to do that, and all the things you said were right, and things doesn't need to go back like it used to be but-but, please, just, forgive me" You covered your eyes with your hands.

"I forgive you and I'm sorry, about the things I've said, and I'm really sorry about it, you know, it" Remus said. It was visible that his eyes were glassy.

"Remus, it was my fault, it was my fault that I brought Severus with me, you don't have to be sorry, and thank you for forgiving me.. "

"What now? " Remus asked. "Forget about each other's existence? " You sniffed.

Remus's face were visibly disappointed. "Before we do that, I want to tell you something" Remus said, and you swore that you could heat his breathing getting faster and faster.

"I love you". That was it. "I-i, remus" You shook your head. "I get it, like you said, we could forget about each others existence and move on".

"No, remus, we've wasted so much time" You said. "By that.. You mean? ", " How dense can you get, remus, I love you too.. " You said, finally smiling.

"Really? "

"Really. I do love you, and, I'm sorry about everything that has been going on"

"I'm sorry, my love, I don't mean any of the things I've said"

hiii! i love your writing so much!! can i request a luci x human!reader where luci is on earth and they run into r who is a golden retriever in human form. they introduce themselves like in a dramatic way to scare r away (just cos luci can be a drama queen) r is just like “oh cool a cosplayer. though youre too cute to be a believable lucifer.” and luci is taken aback but intrigued so they come to earth a few more times after that encounter because they have business there (they say to themself) and they keep “running into” r. (what a coincidence that they go to the same coffee shop and the same park!). they get really close but one day something happens and r finds out that lucifer wasn’t lying when they told r who they were but they still accept them and tells luci they love them no matter what.

(i didnt really think this idea through but i just wanted a fluffy fic with a loving reader giving gwendoline’s luci all the love they deserve. and gwen really is so freaking cute even when she’s being tall scary devil 🥺 you don’t have to write it if you dont want to! but thanks!!)

Lucifer Morningstar x human!reader

A/n: this is lowkey so cute, took me a lil to figure out how I was gonna reveal it but I like it, I hope you do too!

Warnings: none

It wasn’t unusual for Lucifer to visit the waking world, there was many business to take care of there. Sometimes just a change of scenery was needed. Others it was rouge demons, summonings, a meeting ground between realms, all things considered normal for the ruler of hell. This was one of those cases. Here they met you, after a meeting they decided to stay around a little longer, just to see what the humans were up to.

That’s when they met you, walking out of a coffee shop, you bumped into them, not really looking to the people infront of you as a cute dog walked past. “Jesus- I’m sorry I wasn’t paying attention!” You looked up to see this stunning person looking down at you with an expression you couldn’t read.

They looked towards the direction the dog went in and nodded at you. “It’s quite alright, who wouldn’t get distracted with that passing by?” Giggling you nodded. “Right! So cute!! Are you alright though? I didn’t spill anything did I?” They tilted their head. “You ask like I don’t tower over you, I should be the one asking. But no you did not, I’m unscathed.”

“Hey! no need to point me that out. I’m quite aware how tall you are.” Really, your neck was starting to hurt from looking up at them, but they were simply stunning. “I didn’t catch your name?” “I didn’t give it. Lucifer Morningstar, Ruler of hell and the underworld.”

You chucked and introduced yourself. “Sure I’ll go with that, you really do look like that one painting! A little too cute to be the ruler of hell though.” Lucifer gave you an amused smile. You were unintentionally quite the charming character.

After that, Lucifer started visiting the waking more often, in hopes to run into you, a little stalker-ish but they learned your routine and would intentionally show up a little early in places at times they know you’d be around, you always had a friendly conversation or spend a few hours together if you had time.

The two of you grew rapidly closer yet you never really asked for their “real name” as much as they wished to tell you, Lucifer was afraid that you’d no longer want to see them, which surprised even them when they noticed that they actually cared what you thought of them.

“You know, I had never seen you around here before I bumped into you!” “You’ve never been quite good at paying attention, sweet girl.” Turning red in the face you looked to the floor and continued talking. “I don’t think it’s possible to just miss you! you are quite the sight, I must say, Lucifer.”

The way you said their name simply didn’t sit right with Lucifer, there was nothing wrong, it just sounded like you didn’t believe them, if they were going to continue coming to see you they had to be true about who they were.

“I believe we should talk.” You looked at them confused. “Sure? about what?” In an instant you were back in your apartment. “How the hell-“ you looked around the room convinced you were some how imagining this. “Yes exactly, I wasn’t joking when I introduced myself, darling.” Your eyes snapped back to them and you nodded slowly, so they continued. “I’m not playing dress up, or cosplaying like you said.”

“You know, actually that would’ve been quite concerning- also how’d you do that! Do you have any idea how many times I’ve forgotten something here and had to walk back? Can you go anywhere-“ you started rambling, so much new information you wanted answers for every question. “Stay with me, sunshine, I’ll answer everything soon enough.” you blushed and nodded.

“You do have it clear that I am The devil. The actual fallen angel, Lucifer ruler of hell itself.” You nodded again. “And you don’t seem to care.” You tilted your head at them. “Why would I care? I’ve known you for weeks as this really nice person who I like- like a lot, you keep me company and listen to me ramble- why would I care about anything other than that, did you think you could scare me away?”

“I feel as if you’re the only being who would ever say that.” They stated plainly, a smile growing on their face as they realized you really didn’t mind, you simply saw their person, how they behaved and treated you and that was all that mattered.

“hm, tell me Lucifer Morningstar, what made you come clean?” That was a lot better. Prisoner of Azkaban reread notes (Part 1)

Chapter 1, 2,3, 4

Wendelin the Weird really mocks the idea of wizards facing persecution from Muggles, and the anecdote shows how they have more power.

@starlingflight had an hc that the Weasley family went to meet Bill because of the events of last year and because Ginny really looks up to him. In PS, they went to visit Charlie in Romania during holidays, and in CoS, they went to meet Bill. This is the second time they are going to Bill in a very short time. Peak eldest sibling/ third parent moment.

I love the detail in Ron's letter about Molly not letting Ginny into the last tomb, which had all sorts of mutant skeletons. This takes on a layer given what happened to Ginny in Chamber of Secrets.

Uncle Vernon complains about Sirius' hair and then shoots a look at Harry's own. I love the connection the narrative makes between Harry and Sirius from the very beginning - the hair, when Uncle Vernon looks to Harry after he makes a comment about people "deserving punishment"

Ah Marge. The way she treats Harry is special kind of vile. There is a special kind of nastiness to her giving Harry dog biscuits as a present, and then later on in the same chapter alluding to Harry as weak, runty pup that she had someone drown (and then implying Lily has bad blood - "if there is something wrong with the bitch, then there is something wrong with the pup"). Also, although Harry is written as "default white" - this is one of the times I felt such a strong undercurrent of racism here.

And Harry, after first two books of his management of Dursleys, finally rejects them and runs away. ("I had enough" - both Harry and Sirius say at some point with their families)

Interesting that in CoS, Harry is quick to believe Ron and Hermione have forgotten all about him when he didnt get their letters (major abandonment issues acting up, exacerbated by circumstances ofc), but by POA, he is confident that even if he is an outlaw in wizarding world, Ron and Hermione would want to help him. Ron and Hermione slowly help healing Harry <3

Right when Harry is considering his life as an outcast, he is being watched by Sirius, who appears right after Harry has rejected Dursleys as caregivers of any kind, and is the wizarding world outcast. (Also, Sirius has swum the north sea and escaped prison, and he wants to "catch a glimpse")

Sirius laughing at the scene of the crime is such a stark image. We see him do this at the end of the book, when Peter accuses him. ("Black started to laugh, a horrible, mirthless laugh that filled the whole room"). When Peter accuses him of breaking out of Azkaban using dark Powers, Black "started to laugh, a horrible mirthless laugh that filled the whole room." I love this absolutely contrarian impulse in him, that he is laughing at the sheer gall of Peter to accuse him after everything. It also feels like a habit from his home life - designed to piss people off when they accuse him of something, most likely unjust. And it is the same response that happens in his breakdown over James's death on the street - it is the mirthless laughter that begins because of audacity of Peter, and it goes into breakdown over James's death.

Harry returns every day to look at the Firebolt. Jock boy.

Sirius = the Grim. XD interesting how he is associated with a death omen. @artemisia-black has a meta about this.

Ron and Mr Weasley share the same stress response: ears turning red.

Mr and Mrs Weasley recreate the same dynamic as Molly as Sirius in OOTP. Molly does not want Harry to know, Arthur wants Harry to know to be on his guard. This is telling of Rowling's fixed ideas on intrinsic traits of a gender - the man wants to give Harry more agency to be in charge, while the woman is cautious (I'm not making this up, there is literally an interview with Melissa Anelli where she said this about Molly vs Sirius scene: that she wants to contrast "cautious feminine principle" with Sirius' "take charge" masculine principle")

This book feels so melancholy to me. There is a suspense aspect built up with Harry spotting the dog, seeing that it is a death omen, and Sirius saying "he is at hogwarts". On first read, these are scary things. But when you know what you know, this is just dripping with sadness.

Chapter 5,6,7

Ginny tries to join the trio and Ron tells her to "go away". @hinnyfied pointed out how Ginny followed both Ron here and when the train is dark. I really like glimpses of sibling relationships like this!

Remus is here - he is asleep. (interesting that they take note that only students use Hogwarts Express and it is unusual for an adult to be there).

Remus does wandless magic, and conjures flames in his palm. I really really love this detail. The "right to carry a wand" is heavily contested among "creatures" as Griphook resentfully mentions in DH - and it feels like something he has trained himself to be good at. @thecat-isblogging-blog also believes it is something for post transformation - when he may not have his wand and would be vulnerable.

"Ginny looked nearly as bad as Harry felt, and gave a small sob." and Hermione goes and puts an arm around her. Again the Chamber comes up. ("Didnt any of you fall of your seats?" "No, Ginny was shaking like mad though.")

Since this is a book where Harry starts to root his masculinity in James, the shame he feels for collapsing on train is a nice touch. ("I am not delicate!" Harry said crossly). Special thanks to @artemisia-black for her metas for this insight - I would not have looked at this with lens of masculinity if not for your metas!

Interesting detail that both Dean and Lavendar also have no idea what The Grim is. Rest of the class knows - so it is embedded in wizarding culture. This is also a hint to Lavendar's blood status i think? I never picked up on this before.

Dean Thomas appreciation, when Slytherins shout at Hagrid after the Buckbeak incident, Dean says, "It was malfoy's fault!"

"giving Harry a look of loathing reserved just for him" - something about this sentence really cracks me up. lmao.

Snape threatening Trevor really hits at Neville's worst insecurities. Trevor is a gift from his family after Neville proves that he is magical (and not a Squib, as they were fearing). So Trevor is a representation of that for Neville. So Neville's fear - is not being good enough, something Snape (and also his grandmother in a very different way, hits - as McGonagall says, "it's time for her to be proud of the grandson she does have, instead of the one she wishes she had" in HBP). Neville grows very subtly throughout the series.

I love how Lyall and Hope's meeting via Boggarts (as per pottermore) adds another layer to why Remus takes it on in his first class.

Remus is polite to Snape, but he slips in the same scene - when he is asking Neville about what his grandmother wears (so Neville can overlay it on Snape), he prompts, "and a handbag?" when Neville can't seem to remember. Remus is a very subtle character, and his slip ups about his feelings are also super subtle like this. There is no reason for him to prompt Neville on this - but there is a part of him is enjoying this. (It's that part of him on the map that goes: "keep your abnormally large nose out of other people's business")

Chapter 8,9, 10,11

I love how immediately attuned Remus is with Harry, and how Harry actually does say what is bothering him after initially saying no. It is the lack of judgement from Remus, and his ability to let silence be. (Sirius does this with Harry too later on, and so does Ginny)

I love that Harry thought Lups will deny what he had observed, but he not only validates it but offers Harry an honest explanation of why he didnt let Harry fight the Boggart. It is a respect for Harry's agency and intelligence that makes Harry immediately take to him. ("I am impressed, this suggests that what you fear most of all is - fear. Very wise, Harry")

Snape, "unsmiling and watchful" that Harry and Lups are spending time together, and he has told Dumbledore that he is untrustworthy and is helping Sirius.S nape's "eyes were flickering towards Lupin more often than usual" even after brewing the Potion - Snape is super hypervigilant with Lups - there is genuine fear here. Given his teenage brush off, I can see why.

Snape being Dumbledore's angry child: trying to hint to Dumbledore that Lups may be the inside help, and Dumbledore shutting him down, and Snape concedes to it because they are in front of Percy.

Percy looked slightly abashed when Dumbledore mentions that no Dementor would cross the threshold of the castle while he is Headmaster. I wonder what Percy's views are on use of Dementors? He is very assimilationist. The next book, he is on Crouch's side for Winky debacle, so it is likely he thinks Dementors should have a look in the castle.

"his robes were hanging more loosely around him" - interesting detail to show the aftermath of transformation on Lups. It is extremely taxing on his body.

Lups both cant help himself from being concerned that Harry is sad about the match and cant help feeling guilty, that Whomping Willow, made for his use, is what smashed Harry's broomstick.

Harry is so comfortable opening a topic with Lups that he finds deeply shameful: that he fell because of the Dementors, that he hears Lily's death when they get close. It is interesting that Jily death hangs so strongly over POA, and both Remus and later, Sirius act as a stand in for James in this book.

"Lupin made a sudden motion with his arm as though he made to grip Harry's shoulder, but thought better of it." - the summary of Remus and Harry's relationship in the entire series, and Harry breaks through this wall in Deathly Hallows.

"White and shaking he was" "Give Harry to me, I am his godfather" "Black argued, but in the end he gave in" - so demonstrative of the fact that his first priority is always Harry

Sirius was absolutely doing a performance of boredom for Fudge. It is his way of fighting, even in prison - his way of saying, "you havent broken me." Because we do see how Sirius really feels around Dementors at the end of the book - hands over his head, and moaning, "No Please"

"Quite the double act" - McGonagall not mentioning Remus in the group while we get gossipy details like Remus mentioning that McGonagall told him about Harry and Trelawney. It feels like such a gossipy thing to say to a former student, and indicates fondness. So I'd like to think she is also careful and wary with regard to bringing Remus up in front of Ministry authorities, esp potentially sensitive things like Sirius and him used to be best friends.

Harry looking into his parents wedding photo, with laughing Sirius :pleading_face:There is so much longing written into these scenes, and sadness. I have said before that Harry's series wide arc is to coming terms with his parents' death.

ooh interesting stuff from Hermione. Hagrid talks about how Dementors werent keen to let him go, and Hermione says, "but you were innocent!" and hagrid snorts, "Think that matters to them?" interesting stuff for Hermione and her belief and disillusionment in institutions arc.

Dumbledore offering crackers to Snape. Love how Snape indulges Dumbledore even as he hates it lollll.

Chapter 12, 13, 14

I know the fight is about the Firebolt, but I always felt the true reason Harry is angry with Hermione is that she went behind his back. And Ron is siding with Harry. (Although it is funny that it is Crookshanks that technically placed order for the broom)

Also, interesting note about Voldemort - he refers to Lily as "silly girl" and in the most disparaging way possible, when in reality it is her sacrificial magic that stopped him. This is in contrast to how he talks about James - "Face me like a man, straight backed and proud, like your father died". It is taunt, but a compliment infused in the taunt. (We will notice this in his fixation with his father, and rather passive interest in his mother as well - and the interest in his mother is because of her lineage - "I, in whose veins runs the blood of Salazar Slytherin himself, from my mother's side?")

Hermione disappearing into her workload, and Ron, despite being angry with her, interested in what she is up to. He even asked Ernie if she missed any Muggle Studies classes, lol.

How interesting that Lups mentions that the Dementor's Kiss is the fate that awaits Sirius Black, completely unprompted by Harry. It is clearly something that bothers him. ("Do you think anyone deserves that?"). Since he read it in the Prophet in the morning, it is clearly a news that he was still processing.

"Do you really think so? Do you think anyone deserves that?" - it is obviously one way for him to process the news, but it is also a way for Lups to open space for Harry to talk about what he is thinking and feeling.

Snape reminding McGonagall that Gryffindor will be out of running for 8th year in a row if they lose the match, lol. Snape and McGonagall's background Quidditch rivalry is hilarious. This happened in CoS too ("We should get Potter off the Quidditch team until he is ready to be truthful" "The cat wasn't hit over the head with a broomstick")

Harry suggesting they make up with Hermione, and Ron tells him where she is. I get the feeling that Ron was waiting to make up with Hermione after the initial anger. He engages with her, tries to figure out her schedule and it seems to me that the only thing really stopping him is Harry's feelings and he was waiting for Harry's go ahead.

"Ok side with Ron, I knew you would" - the beginning of the series, where the boys choose each other, and Hermione knows it. This changes when Ron becomes aware of his romantic feelings for Hermione, and that forces him to step back from his buffer role, and Harry and Hermione dynamic goes through transitional storm as a result.

Hermione came to watch the match. The juxtaposition of the Fred and George juggling bottles and the festivities, and Hermione reading Home Life and Social habits of British Muggles (which she doesn't have to) really adds to the loneliness of the picture.

I don't know if this was mentioned, but Lupin keeps asking Harry that maybe it's time to stop during the Patronus chapter. I do think it's because he is seeing the physical toll it's costing him, but I'd like to think it could also be because Harry has become an earpiece to James' last moments, and Lupin is caught off-guard. His grief is rising back up and it writes "Ready?" said Lupin, who looked as though he was doing this against his better judgement.(via @thecat-isblogging-blog)

We can see Lupin losing a bit of his careful control when Harry asks him about Sirius. Not only has Lupin just gone through the circle of grief again in a space of a few minutes, but now Sirius being bought up is asking for his anger. When Harry assumes Lupins knew Sirius as well, Lupin responds very quick and 'out of character': "What gives you that idea?" he said sharply. (Also via Cat)

Sirius breaks into the dormitory with a knife. He gifts Harry a knife for Christmas later on. (@artemisia-black brought this to my attention, but he seems to have a thing for knives. )

Love how immediately Neville connects Harry to being his protector, he steps behind Harry when he sees Snape.

Obviously Snape enjoys catching harry in trouble, but his dialogue here about worrying about Harry's safety (also his life mission) is also him. ("Let other people worry about his safety!").

"Mr Moony presents his compliments to Professor Snape and begs him to keep his abnormally large nose out of other people's business" - this insult is essentially displaying Remus' anxiety over Snape "sneaking around, trying to get them expelled". And Sirius' insult, is on his intelligence ("Mr Padfoot would like to register his astonishment that an idiot like that ever became professor"). Insulting people's intelligence is go to insult for both Sirius and Snape. James' insult goes for his appearance ("ugly git") which is appearance based, and most likely to do with his jealous streak regarding Snape and Lily. And Peter follows James' lead in the ugly insult and "advises him to wash his hair, the slimeball."

I will never get over the detail of Lups clapping his hand and looking around cheerfully when Ron comes in XD covered this scene between Lups and Snape in more detail here

Remus made Sirius and James "feel ashamed of themselves sometimes". I'd imagine it would be similar to how he handled this - cover up for them as he did for Harry, and lets them hear it in private. Although some of the harshness of what Remus said here is because he agrees with Snape, and recognises his own guilt in this situation, so he is angrier.

There is something about the fact that Hermione comes to them when she gets the letter that Buckbeak is being executed that is really, really vulnerable of her? She can wait until Hagrid tells them himself, but she needs them in this highly charged emotional moment.

I love how immediate the trio's priorities shift - both Harry and hermione discuss the unfairness of the situation, and when Hermione says she has no hope, Ron says there is. "You won't have to do all the work alone this time Hermione. I'll help." Ron's offer of solidarity really gets to Hermione and she apologises to him. And that's pretty much all he needed to hear from her ("I am really sorry about scabbers") and he quickly moves to assure her- "he was a bit old. You never know, mum and dad might get me an owl now." (ron's issue with hermione is similar to his issue with Harry in DH - "you are dismissing my feelings and devaluing my needs. What is important to me is not important to you, and therefore I am angry.")

Lucius is still a background antagonist in this novel, even though he doesn't make an appearance. And like Chamber of Secrets, Hagrid is once again in trouble because of his vulnerable status in the wizarding society.

The exam chapters are so endearingly weird - the teapot into tortoise and how they are all worrying about how some of their tortoise still has spout, or breathe steam. And harry overdoing his cheering charms that meant ron had to be taken to a private classroom for over an hour cos he was doubling up with hysterical laughter.

well i think the first thing to do is to throw out the idea that you have any clue what 'normal' even is! because none of us do!

normal is a very subjective term. it is affected by the country you grew up in, the culture and religion of your family, the media you consume regularly, the people you spend time with most often, the list goes on

you will never truly understand the vast extent of The Human Experience because there will always be experiences you cannot relate to or empathise with no matter how hard you try. so you need to get into the mindset that Every Single Human Being deserves basic human rights no matter what. they deserve healthcare, housing, food and water, bodily autonomy, etc. because in a society where your rights can be taken away because you did something Bad, the people in charge will find a way to make the people they dont like into Bad People, so that they can get away with taking their rights away. see: homosexuals are paedophiles, trans women are predators, Muslims are terrorists, etc. etc. etc.

the only way to ensure your rights never be taken away is to make sure No Ones Rights Can Be Taken Away Ever, yes even Those people. yes, them too. when i say no one, i mean no one.

keeping an open mind and listening to other peoples experiences is also highly important. if something makes you uncomfortable, sit with that. think about Why it makes you uncomfortable, and whether that is a rational thing to feel about it or if it is a knee jerk reaction that was taught to you by your family or the society you grew up in.

you will have to accept that you Are going to be wrong about some things. you are not always the good guy in every story. you will say bigoted things or be ignorant about something or offend someone, even if you never intended to. and your response to that should not be "omg i didnt mean it im not a bigot i would never do anything bigoted my mums brothers dogs cousin is [insert minority group]!!", it should be "ok, i messed up here. i clearly have much more to learn on this subject. im so sorry for [thing you did/said] and for any harm it caused, i will educate myself so that this doesnt happen again."

and its important to remember that having some internalised bigoted beliefs doesnt make you an Evil Person, you were just raised in a bigoted society. of course you're going to pick these things up thats what humans do! we learn from and copy the behaviours of those we grow up with as children. but you do have to do the work to challenge those beliefs and educate yourself. i believe that people should always be given the opportunity to grow and change, and that often times bigoted behaviour comes from a place of ignorance and fear. these people will never change their beliefs if we treat them like irredeemable monsters, it will just push them further away.

anyway thats my take on it i suppose. other people will have different opinions. i hope this helped you in some way :)

thinking real hard about that new content in Painful bc i really love it-- while Painful did work well without more blatant explanations on Marty, Lisa, or Brad's past, it also meant there was some stuff I just never learned if i didnt play First at least (and my second play through of Painful brought even MORE clarity to me), and well honestly I just enjoy the deeper explorations of these characters. I already rambled about this content in a 2am post messily but now I am thinking hard about the cycle of abuse- specific to Brad and the general theme of new content in general being about how deeply rooted abuse is, improvement of yourself, letting go of guilt & anger and the importance of love.

in order to better break down the new content and how it adds things to the story i transcribed the new content-- queen's campfire dialog, mad dog's campfire dialog, and two large pieces of dialog from the nightmare scene. parallels! parallels everywhere! I uploaded it as a text file if you want to read it all yourself :)

also this means this post will be long as fuck. there are so many cool things to connect here.

This new content in Painful does a lot to express the years of shit Brad went through that further fed his issues. And while most of this ends up focusing on Marty (which I do thinks its important to not just throw Lisa on screen, her purpose is still as being 'off screen' for effect) it greatly helps Brad's character and the flashback to Lisa and him playing together or their convo before Brad runs away- fantastic addition alongside Buddy's later instance of putting makeup on Brad (made me extra sad)- and it 'humanizes' Lisa more. She existed- she was a sister with a brother and they hung out and had fun and they talked. etc. They existed in the same house and they endured horrible things.

I feel like this new content kind of hammered in the family like... the affect of abusive families. And what Brad has been missing from a normal upbringing, what he's lost after all this time because of abuse, and what he is desperately trying to get out of Buddy. At the end of the fight with flesh-mound Marty (we will be talking about this A LOT), this part especially feels like it reflects Brad's inability to not see Buddy as the redemption he needs, what he feels is the only thing to save him:

But if you stop. …if you do this. It's over. Dead. You know what happens. We can't let her out. She… She's gonna hurt us so bad.

Which also, I think parallels to Lisa too-- honestly. so much of what alludes to Lisa works well for Buddy and vise versa, for obvious reasons.

But the nightmare really just... you really get the feeling for how fucking exhausting it is. Brad is so tired and he's trying so hard. But the thought that says he will be like his father feels deep rooted- its his blood, Marty lives inside him, he can't fight it hard enough.

this next section of the flesh-mound boss fight ending has a clear conflict in his own thoughts. He recognizes it's all so tiring and it needs to be let go. But then it turns into anger at himself. And more likely recalling the tough words of wisdom his father gave him (or his grandpa too)

I know you're tired. All this anger. These memories. So many scars. So many mistakes. It all stings… So let it all go. You don't deserve it. The guilt is gonna kill you. Why can't you just let go? Be a man. When they hand you their heart. You don't bare yours. You eat it. Consume everything. Puke it up. Then eat it again. Eat like a dog. You know it only takes one taste. You know better than me. It's so fucking easy. And if you never stop… It feels so good.

Fun fact! The "When they hand you their heart. You don't bare yours. You eat it. Consume everything." gets referenced slightly in the new Joyful content, where Brad's friends are trying to recall some words of wisdom which they only recall as "Sometimes you need to just... Eat your heart out. Or something." Which implies Brad likely told them this line to some extent.

Oof. Probably my favorite excerpt from the boss dialog. Consume Everything. Puke it up, eat it again.... You know it only takes one taste. You know better than me... Marty's own behavior comes out here as he encouraged Brad similarly in other scenes. He's the one that's is in fact forcing Brad to get a "taste" of this. (Look back at the 'father' epilogue in Joyful). But he also makes Brad think that this is always all on him- by giving him the responsibility of "this is how men should be", it takes blame off of Marty and puts it on Brad for not "being a man" and thus, repeating these behaviors in a way that is often told to him as justified and as the right way to act.

He is constantly guilted and programed to this behavior in an extreme way by Marty taunting him, belittling and validating his own abusive behavior.

Let me cut over to Mad Dog's campfire scene. Yep! I promise its related (to me).

[cut to here. He is referring to what (seems to be) something his father said.] When I'm ready to die. We fight. You have to beat me. Then you will eat me. A dog in a dog in a dog in a dog. Hellacious. Miserable cycle. Never stop. Make. Us. More. Madness is a small cost. For power greater than love. […] Strength is our family. [Scene pans down the cliffs showing more and more skulls of humans and dogs hiden under ground. the next text appears on screen]: I love you… But I really have to go. [At the bottom of the cliffs, a spider much like the Marty-spiders appears, but with Brad's face instead.]

While this is something Mad Dog is saying as if its something his own father said to him, it seems pretty clear you can see the parallel to Brad. Honestly its way too accurate to ignore lol. the first line is strangely similar to things Marty says in the nightmare fight, and the "Dog in a dog" clearly feels very similar to the "eat like a dog" in that earlier quote i gave. Whats even more weird is the scene is pans through.

(Again not taking away from Mad Dog's own story, just explaining the parallel). The skulls that become more and more in the dirt feel like a metaphor for all the years of abuse, and the cycle of it. Now the Brad-spider? That surprised me.

Taking-

I love you… But I really have to go.

Feels like something related to Buddy. And I think this as well because of the spider at the end. Marty-spiders always felt like they were supposed to show how his effect is always there and you might now know where. His abuse still exists even in the smallest form. For a Brad one to be shown like that- I would read into it as how Brad is still going after Buddy, while his behavior is in fact abusive.

The hardest of it all is the imagery and the use of plural dialog too is that we really get to see how Brad feels like Marty is and always will be a part of him and that's what makes it so hard to change. And considering the above I mentioned, it makes sense.

We can't handle that, Brad. It's too painful. I'm not ready. We'll never be ready! Don't fight blood! Please! I'm fucking scared!

The desperation towards the end fits the idea of letting go of Lisa in the regard that the grief for her is also ruining Brad alongside his need to have Buddy as a way to atone for his behavior towards Dustin in the past, and try to not be like his father. And getting rid of that source is terrifying because it means a lot of scary things to him. The "us" and "we" keeps forcing that feeling that Marty is part of him, and that it really wants Brad to keep holding on because thats who he is. It is what he has been for so so long and he is terrified of letting go of grief because its what remains of Lisa in his head. And that letting go of Buddy would mean he is losing that opportunity to be the father he needs to be in order to prove he isnt like his father. These two reasons to not let go aren't good! They are not ways he should be living and he HAS to let that go.

But hey, thats not all. Let's get through the sad as fuck analysis okay? It'll get better.

As you descend a long rope as child!Brad you start to read a poem of sorts that I can only assume comes from Lisa. This excerpt also pops up in Joyful...

No friends. No brothers. No fathers. No mothers. Just me.

This gets repeated three times. Its weird but it always made me feel uneasy, and I think that is because it kind of focuses on how Lisa ends up being the core. When you apply this to Brad alone, it connects in the way that Lisa is the center of his grief and how that cancels out so much else in his life. Though i want to point out real quick-- it applies to Buddy in an interesting way that fufills their comparisons with the statues you destroy in Joyful. Very cool. And for Lisa it applies very blatantly. (No friends (Berny), No brothers (Brad), No fathers (Marty), No mothers (her own absent mom))

there is a LOT to this poem and you should look at that text post I linked to read it all. So I am just bringing up a one other part.

Deep below. A dark endless sea. A pain slumbers. One we'll never flee. Give me the strength. Let your memories set us free. So that when next we meet. I may grow into a mighty tree. [...] I know this wasn't easy. Thank you. …And Bradley, Good luck.

Oh yes, a step back to the boss dialog here, it's relevant:

I know you're tired. All this anger. These memories. So many scars. So many mistakes. It all stings… So let it all go. You don't deserve it.

This perfectly reflect points I have made up to this point regarding the way Brad holds onto his grief and even the earliest lines of the boss is trying to show him that. It's interesting that as the very start he's being so forgiving to himself then is devolves into more anger-- but here, once Brad has regressed, Lisa is the one to remind him this. I think its important to recognize how Its not about getting rid of Lisa's memory at all and this poem being spoken from Lisa (assumed) fits that. It isn't easy to recognize or to do this, it takes a whole different kind of strength.

In that text file i transcribed the end conversation between Brad & Lise where Brad says he is going to run away, but I won't be referencing it here... Do read it/watch it though.

If you read this far, good job! Just one more depressing thing though! The actual last thing said in the nightmare is great actually- for story telling. Because of course if this whole dream was trying to show that Brad has let go... well, it would kind of mess up the ending still carrying out with Brad still seeming unchanged.

Bradley, my boy. It's just not that easy. You can't save her. You can't even save yourself. After all… I'm in your veins..

Yes, thats it- thats the last part in the dream, where Brad sees a small flesh-mound Marty in blood. It doesn't ruin the fact Brad had this long ass dream. Its a great look into his mind. And how it entirely loops back. He really just... he really is stuck. You can see how damn hard he tries. But this theme of it being "in your blood" is SO fucking strong and it hurts. Because I think we all know, its not true. You are not fated to become the abuser. But god you can see how hard it truly is to fight what has been beaten into you for so long.

Right.

So looking at the parts where forgiveness are present... This pops up a bit in the new content- from this, too another campfire scene. I think the forgiveness and love sprinkled in is important to notice. A lot of people in Olathe in general are alone and without family. Brad has already been... alone, however. His family situation left him without affection, and an upbringing that left no proper parent to attach to meant he'd already not receive the affection he needed in order to give that to others properly. He had no one, and when he did finally have someone- Dustin- he still never received the love he didn't know he needed because of what was taught to him. And he did it again to Buddy.

This is obvious when you get to the end of the game. When Brad wants buddy to hold him.

And, Queen's dialog with Brad pulls a lot more of that conversation to the surface.

Being held by someone you love is the best feeling in the entire universe. […] These men out here. All this strength. This power. Your respect… you can't take it with you when you die. It wont save you. It doesn't matter how powerful you are. No ideas matter. No experience matters. None of that shit that's consumed you your whole life matters. You're completely naked in the face of death. Its terrifying. Now, a good hug. That matters. Honestly, it ain't gonna change much… dead is dead. But the way i see it. You can die afraid. Lost in your own mind. Haunted by the guilt of all your mistakes. Tormenting nightmares wondering what comes next. Or… you can be in the moment with someone you love. Someone that makes you feel like nothing else matters. Nothing could be more important than feeling each other's warmth and love. No thinking. Just feeling.

Brad's earlier chat included him bringing up how he didnt let Dustin or Buddy get physical affectionate too- theres some earlier chitchat that you may want to see in a video. But honestly the realization of how little affection Brad has received, due to Marty's influence, makes things even more depressing when you see how hard it is to let go.

Everything, everything is tied together. He can't let go. So he cant end the abuse. So he fails to ever change. So he never receives the love he truly wants and needs. By the end of the game, when you have that option to hold him, that new dialog hits even worse. And I don't think it is even to try and sway people into hugging Brad. if anything it kind of just opened up to me why Buddy shouldnt need to hold him. And how it is honestly something so much deeper. His struggle has infected everything he wants in life that he just keeps failing to have.

It depresses him, it discourages him. I can't even find more words to explain how heavy the weight is on someone like Brad after years and years of horrible abuse and never getting the help he so much needed.

IT WAS SO MUCH FUN I'm gonna put my spoiler thoughts under a read more but for here: I had an absolutely FANTASTIC time! I went with a few friends who love fnaf as much as I do and we were losing our minds any time ANYTHING happened it was probably the most fun I've ever had going to see a movie!!! I went with incredibly low expectations so I was completely blown away by how much effort went into making it actually fun for the fans!!!! I brought my Foxy plushie to watch it with us so he could learn <3

Okay spoiler thoughts now c:

HOLY SHIT YALL THIS MOVIE FUCKED LIKE HELL I genuinely started crying during any scene where the animatronics were allowed to be silly!!! They're just kids!!!! They're just little kids and this movie showed that way more than the games ever have and it really showed how much the people who made this really understand how that would come across in a non-survival game format

My bestie and I had to stop ourselves from genuinely screaming when the cop introduced herself as Vanessa, we were NOT expecting them to go THAT RECENT when making a movie about the first game what the HELL!!!!!!! I was so excited, she's genuinely one of my favorite fnaf characters overall so it was really cool to see a different spin on her character c:

You may know one of my besties from a video essay about the mimic that fucking dunks on matpat for incessantly insisting the books are canon and using them to make theories about the games, and I got to help a lot with that actually! Which means we both hate matpat! Which meant we spent his entire scene losing our minds to the point where we didn't even hear him say his line!!! Still the funniest thing they could have done tbh

I was in love with this movie the entire time and all the little nods to things were REALLY REALLY COOL, I knew there was going to be a bunch of little stuff when fucking chicas magic rainbow from fnaf world was an ice cream logo. The midnight motorist shirt was something I was really excited to spot, and I didn't remember the dog enough to recognize him when the movie was playing but as soon as people on Tumblr brought it up again it all clicked and that is SO FUNNY, of all things to add in as an easter egg you chose that? Funniest move ever, really really loved the audience reaction video I watched where someone got to that scene and just yelled "SPARKY?????"

AND I WILL NOT LIE, I WAS 100% SINGING DURING THE CREDITS AS SOON AS THE FACT THAT THEY ACTUALLY FUCKING GOT THE SONG SET IN I guess it really does deserve to be so high on our list!!! I'd gotten so used to it over the years that it took hearing it in a new context to be reminded how much it slaps and now it's way higher on my list of favorites <3

I'm glad everyone hates balloon boy just as much as me, I started cheering every time foxy started humming, and the actor for afton KILLED IT every time he was on screen!!!! I had SUCH a good time!!!

Think about it:

A story about the national rank hunters and kamish in the og timeline

All the info we really got was a bunch of people die, 5 people live, and nothing else

We see 3 out of the 5 and one of them turns into a burnt stick instantly, another has a decent role, and the last one shows up in 15 panels max

Theres so many possibilities on what could’ve happened

Not to mention, it would’ve been a great way to showcase side characters

Im thinking about it and had so much time to think about it that i came up with a crisis about how much I want to talk to someome about SL Rag again.

For the sake of it I will put the normal ideas first(Thomas and Reed, plus a bit of Zhigang and some canon divergence ideas) and then seperate the info about the rest of the hunters from the sequel (Siddhart, Liu,) inside the brackets.

But dear god do I LOVE them. Ive tried to find everything about them as much as possible, and watched the same national rank video (of them being insulted but in espanolllll) for the nth time because it was the only national rank video that i had known about but ahhhh. I keep thinking that the author left them there bc he had expected to make some use of it but decided to rush the story instead, or just placed it to make the threat of thomas seem a bit more threatning. Either way I would have also loved to see not just the national hunters but also the way they inteeracted with their guilds and countries as well.

For Christopher Reed my main headcanon was to have his past be connected to the Kamish event, having not just ptsd from fighting the dragon but also having lost his family in that event. He seemed reserved and doesnt even like hunting as shown in the time he rejected going too deal with an S rank dungeon despite that being his main duty for it. I also think it would have been cool to have a hunter who didnt do this just because of survival or fame, but because he was forced from it from the start, by pretty much everyone: the society, the assosiation, and even the ones who gave him the power. of course he likes the power and fame either way but he would give it all up (prob) if he could just go back again to having his peaceful life. His past could also show the social pressure hunters go through, especially those with more power who are in that line between idols for the people and tools for the goverment (or even their own guild) while also showing the years prior to Kamish and how that devastation had reshaped society as a whole.

For Thomas Andre I wish we could have seen more of his background as well, and his development to being humbled towards others that began to deserve it. I like it in the manhwa but I just wish there had been more to that, especially for him to respect others that werent just Jinwoo, Thomas and Laura. I would be quite interested in Laura's dynamic as well, how did she come to meet him and how did she come to be one of the closests people as well. we dont even know what her rank is, just that she is pretty competent at what she does, and honestly that surprises me a lot bc for most of the guilds that we have seen, the ones who have the most authority are those with more power, yet not once do we see Laura needing to use that, and thats fun. It would also be fun if she is just a non awakened one or a lower rank, since it would be funny to see her boss other S ranks around (or her having so many S rank guard dogs by her side becasue she is the best guildmate they could ask for!). Oh right this was about Thomas haha-- I also wished to see more wholesome moments with Norma, the side stories indicated that he had fond respect of those who save him and also him eating her cookies or doing gardening just heals my soul every time I look at it!

The healer, we know jack shit. Well, we know one thing, that they are a healer. I did make an OC of them once, as well as trying to pin down the possible location of what country they might haave been from : Russian or France where the options since they have been the countries that alo dealt and cleared an S rank raid. My thoughts would range a lot on how I wanted to present the S rank, especally since they are the ones who probably carried the whole ass team throughout the entire fight. Also them being a megalomaniac in the same way healers are in games would have been funny, in accoun to the fact that they would have the same rabid cannot be tamed energy as the rest of the heroes. I hope we get to see something of them one day, especially when Ragnarok comes back (FOUR DAYS AH)

I dont need to say much in account of Liu Zhigang being the most beloved nd most infuriating character becasue of his whole wasted potential. Well, absolutely right I would have love me for him to have been the actual strongest or have some cooler fighting techniques that didnt just rely on the pure strength like the rest of the other national ranks. I would have also loved to see him and his guildmates a lot more, since it was hinted that there was a lot of powerful hunters which china kept hidden from other countries. Also he really seemed to be a guy coming straight out of a martial arts movie so i am glad i wasnt the only one who thought of him growing all hi life to perfect certain martial arts styles.

Siddhart Bachchan is perfect as he is in the SLRagnarok I have nothing more to say of him or about him :3

ALSO!!! I can’t get over how neil tried so hard to keep all his secrets to himself and kept everything he could from the foxes (other than the truths he gave up with his reactions like with the whole puppy dog face whenever anyone does when anyone does anything nice for him and the whole nicky friend thing) bc he was raised to hide all of himself and told that no one was safe other than him and his mom. And how jean just so frequently lets secrets out on accident because he’s not used to being allowed them. Because the ravens were so messed up that they both were not allowed to keep a lot fully to themselves and also were so all-around fucked up that they didnt feel the same need to lock shit away where no one could see bc everything/everyone was fucked up and knew not to ask questions. So once jean’s with normal humans, he doesn’t realize that a lot of what he says is so telling. And ofc he keeps some secrets close and doesnt let anyone fully in but like god idk something about neil being forced to lock everything away and jean not realizing that he’s not.

because neil is raised to survive!!!!!!!!!!! and jean is forced to endure!!!!!!!! surviving for neil has always meant keeping his mouth shut or lying about everything, because even partial truth are dangerous in the wrong hands. enduring for jean has always meant pretending (and believing) that he deserves what happens to him, that being sold means he's now a Thing instead of a Person. (how fucked up btw. he does truly believe it's possible to sell a person. it's thee fundamental truth that shapes his entire worldview). and his coping mechanism any time he thinks he's crossed a line is to literally claw at his own throat....... im going to be sick!

he sat there quiet before speaking. "go...go to your room" he mumbled. i took that chance to get out a quick as i could. i went up the stairs and into my room. i shut the door and immediately began to sob. i sat on the floor crying my eyes out. i dug my nails into my arms and sobbed. my knees were tucked into my head. i cried for at least 3 hours. when i looked up at my clock it said 1:00 AM. i sniffled a bit before going into my bathroom and looking at my wounds. my legs burned so bad but not as bad as my head. i huge gash was right on the side of it. a scab has formed over it but it still hurts. i began to treat my wounds very carefully. i wrapped my legs and placed a band-aid on the cut on my head. my hands were still shaking from fear. i didnt mean to make kai so mad... i wasnt thinking when i hung up or left. i heard my door open to my room and i peeked out of the bathroom. kai stood in there, but then he walked over to the bathroom. my face turned to fear and horror. ive never been so scared of him. i froze in fear. he walked into the room with me. he looked at me a bit before pulling me into his chest. he must have felt me shaking cause he held my hands firmly in his grip. his other hand held the back of my head. "i wont hurt you" he mumbled. his head buried into mine. we stood like that for what felt like forever. i was still so scared. was it a trick? something to make me vulnerable? i moved my hands from his and wrapped them around him. he let out a sigh of content. "kai..." i spoke "hm?" he hummed back "im sorry" i said, my voice a bit shaky "its ok...i got really frustrated for no reason..just dont do it again..." he said i stood shocked. he really just admitted he was in the wrong?! "go lay down you need sleep" he said letting me go. i looked at him for a second. he lifted my chin "ive always thought you were so beautiful. that day i met you. you are so perfect" he whispered. he pecked my lips before leaving my room. i stood in the bathroom shocked. but i did what he said. i walked over to my bed and lied down to go to sleep. i soon dozed off and slept really well. i woke up to see meadow staring at me. i sat up "what the fuck why are you i-" i was cut off my her hitting me with her bag "What the fuckis wrong with you!" she yelled at me "why the fuck are you in my room!" i yelled back "fucking hit me with your bag" i mumbled "i'd do it again" she snapped "oh you bitch i dare you" i said getting pissed. she hit me again. i stood up and slapped her hard. she scoffed before speaking "you messed up my lipstick!" she yelled "oh what you saving it for kai?" i growled. i hit her again but this time i punched her. she fell onto the ground. but i left her there. "get the fuck out my room cocksucker" i said pointing to the door. "i am so done with your shit. do it again ill kill you right in front of your kai" i said stern. next thing i knew kai was in the door way "what the hell is happening up here" he said looking at both of us. "meadow decided to wake me up by hitting me with her bag. so i hit her back" i said plain. "fucking bitch deserved it" she groaned. "im the bitch? do you even know what that means?" i scoffed. "it means your a whore. like dogs. dogs are whores they go from one to another to another and so on" i said looking back at her. "i am not a bitch." she said offended "yeah...yeah you are....go from harrison to kai back to harrison and straight back to kai. so your a bitch" i said shrugging my shoulders she scoffed before getting up and leaving the room "i mean im just stating facts!" i yelled before going into the bathroom to look at myself in the mirror. "well...." kai said following me into the bathroom. he wrapped himself around me but i pushed him off. he looked confused. "you have your own bitch" i said looking at him. "you dont have to be so rude" he said "ok....imagine waking up and first thing in the morning you get hip by a ten pound bag right in the face. then you hit someone twice and you havent even been up for 5 minutes...and no coffee" i said looking at him in the mirror.
