Hazbin Hotel Thoughts: Episodes 7 & 8 (FINALE)

SPOILERS

Whoooooooooooooooo, boooooooooooooooy....

These last episodes were amazing!!!

I'll admit, I was a smidge spoiled by tumblr posts and Youtube thumbnails...not cool to those who don't put a spoiler warning or stamp and used the 'keep reading' line. Come on!

Anyways, where to begin...

A lot of sweet stuff in Episode 07, plus some somber stuff.

Vaggie gained back her wings! I guess its because she got them wrongfully taken by Adam and Lute rather than being 'fallen' in the eyes of Heaven.

Kinda cool to see how helpful Carmilla and Rosie were. And I adored Rosie and her chemistry with Alastor! I love how supportive they were for Charlie, almost acting like her mother and father. So cute!

The fight in the finale was epic!

One of my favorite moments during the battle (besides Alastor vs Adam and Lucifer appearing) is Charlie manifesting a demonic arm. This is a reference to her original design!

And Razzle and Dazzle can turn into dragons?! But, Dazzle died! Nooooooooo!

Sir Pentious becoming a Winner is one of things that got spoiled for me, but it didn't diminish my thoughts and feelings on the matter because I didn't know how. He sacrificed himself for the other's safety, a selfless sacrifice at that which does harcon back to a biblical quote.

Emily is still friggin' cute and HA! Take that, Sera!

Adam dying was another thing spoiled. It was also unexpected. Still liked seeing it happen and by Niffty by all people. I do wonder what happens when an angel dies by an angelic weapon...like, are they permanently gone too or...

That moment with Alastor...man ain't doing good and I'm curious who has a leash on him. Some people seems to think that Alastor has plans to take over Hell once he is freed from this but...I don't know, it doesn't seem to be his style. I mean, I also wouldn't like being stifled by someone else and would want to break free.

Again, I've been wrong before, so let's see how this plays out. And Alastor seems to have genuine care, but, unsurprisingly, he views this as a weakness and wishes to toss that aside for his own goals (one being to free himself). I do wonder how this will come to play.

Wait...Lilith has been in Heaven this whole time? And she made a deal? And it seems to had been connected to Adam...was it to keep Charlie safe?

I rewatched The Social Network for its 13th anniversary. One of my favorite films of all time, and one that convinced me of Armie's extraordinary acting skills. The film is a masterpiece on every level, one of the greatest biopics of the 21st century. In my opinion also David Fincher's magnum opus, together with Se7en, if one could have more than 1. With an inimitable performance of the KILLER soundtrack.

And Armie Hammer was in it!!!

A few review quotes about Armie's performance:

* Hammer and Garfield make the glue that hold it together.

* Although the stand out award I'd like to give to Mr. Armie Hammer. His role is just Tailor fit, literally as his jacket. From his statuesque as a rower all through out as a dapper at Harvard, he is just believable in that field. He is after after all the Winklevoss BrotherS.

* Armie hammer is a best combination of grace and conceit how he played wealthy twins.

* David Fincher's cool, stylish direction and great performances by Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Armie Hammer make The Social Network a worthwhile watch.

* Now that some of the dust has settled, there��s one name that keeps coming up as a comic scene-stealer and awards dark horse: Armie Hammer, who plays entitled twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss. In the movie, a Winklevoss twin declares, “I’m six-foot-five, 220 pounds, and there’s two of me,” but since there’s only one of Hammer, that meant the actor was often acting opposite a body double whose face he’d be digitally grafted onto in postproduction (and when you consider the notorious amount of takes that an exacting director like David Fincher requires, Hammer’s nimble pair of performances is all the more impressive).

* My favorite description of the twins in the film comes from Alison Willmore's review, in which she writes, "Hammer is infinitely amusing in his dual role, exuding privilege and looking like something grown in a vat of J. Crew catalogs and Aryan race propaganda."

* No one could have played Sean Parker like Justin Timberlake, and Armie Hammer playing the Winklevoss twins is fantastic too.

* The quasi-pair of performances generated Hammer Oscar buzz at the time, and he has been a marquee mainstay ever since, appearing in films like J. Edgar (2011), The Lone Ranger (2013), The Birth of a Nation (2016), Call Me By Your Name (2017), Cars 3 (2017), Sorry to Bother You (2018), and On the Basis of Sex (2018).

* What makes Armie Hammer’s acting performance outstanding is his use of specific body language with each of the two characters.

The different way he moves, his vocal cadences , and facial expressions makes it so easy to believe that these were two different people on the screen.

When Armie played Cameron Winklevoss, he played him more uptight and more formal. The formality also came out in his dialogue. His diction was more precise.

When he played Tyler Winklevoss, he leaned back and was more laid back. His speech pattern was more fluid and he even used curse words as Tyler’s character.

I think that Armie’s performance was so great that I would easily see him being a contender for best supporting actor at the next Academy Awards ceremony.

FISCHL HCS bc she’s so lee but I can’t think of a fic for her rn 💜

A LOT of people tickle her when her tyrannical yapping becomes too much. Mona especially, bc she’s sick and tired of Fischl’s chuunibyou tomfoolery and thinks it’s funny how she screams and gets all indignant with one pinch

Traveler (Lumine in my case) just likes being a nuisance and will tickle her while she’s loquaciously orating, and they'll keep playing along with her act just to be a tease ;)

Like "Oh? Seems the element of laughter is super effective against the Prinzessin der Verurteilung!"

Or the Traveler remains mostly terse while Fischl is babbling and screeching her head off so it becomes silent ler vs. chatty lee tehe

When she's tickled Fischl absolutely loses all ability to form words, even German and fantastical ones, like it’s BAD and the contrast is HILARIOUS

She'll go from "Retreat, perverted miscreant! Mine eyes of darkness behold thy villainous intentions and exhort thee to stay away! S-Stay away..." to "STAahfahfhsahaHAf NAOOOOO!!"

Also her laugh is squeaky, girlish, whiny, and snorty and not at all dignified or macabre.

Bennett prob doesn’t tickle her as much, mostly cuz he never thinks to, but when she unleashes the onslaught of a thousand fingers once again one day he FINALLY thinks to tickle her back.

Ofc, with his luck, he gets all the wrong spots and gets wrecked as a result. It’s probably Razor accidentally sweeping his hair across her neck that reveals it to him.

She's on the ace spectrum. That's not tk-related but it's still an hc!!

Occasionally Fischl will ask to be tickled but because of her verbose language no one can understand what she's saying TT

Lisa I bet tickles her whenever she comes to the library, especially when she would come alone and shrunken in on herself and in such strange attire. She also quotes lines from Fischl’s favorite storybooks and theatre scripts while wrecking her lmaooo

(SUMMER FANTASIA WAS EPIC anyway) Xinyan would sporadically poke her or “strum” her sides whenever she seemed down or distant, leading to a lot of tk fights. Kazuha too, except his attacks would be more deliberate and malevolently soft.

Fischl also def babysits Klee sometimes and tickles her when reading or telling her stories cuz Klee is adorable ♡

Fischl and Xingqiu would be such good friends ANYWAY I'm sure it came up once when they were reading together. Fishxing are both so competitive and prideful so their attacks often end in fights often end in begrudging draws.

Oz definitely rats her out to anyone who seems affectionately exhausted with her antics. Whatever happened to loyalty??

There seems to be a common hc that Genshin characters with skin exposed in their outfits are more ticklish on those spots, and who am I to change that? Anyway, she’s most ticklish under her arms, in the crooks of her elbows and knees, and on her legs, sides, and back/shoulder blades (also where her vision is!) like she has so much fishnet and nylon in her ensemble she’s got to be so tickly (haha get it fischnet??)

On the ler side of things, she’s got long nails, archers’ hands, and an electro bird, so… >:)

somebody told me that terezi was a bad character on instagram so im gonna write an essay on why shes my fave character

first off her sheer chaotic energy is fucking iconic. the complaint on instagram wasnt about that because it cant be denied but shes just fucking insane and i love her for it. i think shed bite off my fingers and then insult the taste of my skin. shes just so crazy and weird and murderous and nerdy and i love her for it. we all know this. but theres a lot of her character that is so overlooked.

heres an essay on why metatextually and narratively, terezi is one of (if not THE) most important characters in homestuck and how that connects to her relationship with vriska.

vriska and terezi are described by hussie like this:

This is the most important character relationship resulting from all the sound and fury of Hivebent's chaotic dispensation... It's the arguable axis around which the whole epic revolves, when you really study all the ramifications from the fallout resulting from their rivalry, ensuing revenge cycle, and mutually floundering struggle for redemption, in the warped way each of them defines that idea.

so i mean even HUSSIE acknowledges that theyre important. and of course we all know vriska is obsessed with trying to be at the center of the narrative and you could say she pulls terezi into that but thats NOT what happens between them.

so terezi meets vriska at some undetermined young age and they flarp together and become close very quickly as seen in terezis memories in remem8er. and when all the drama in hivebent goes down you really see that they arent just stable in their quadrants but that their codependency plays into this vacillation in a really twisted way.

Another snapshot of the tortured Scourge Sisters dynamic, in a long tale of angst and ambivalence concerning justice and morality. Terezi wrestles with this eternally. She wants to bring Vriska to justice. But she doesn't. She does, doesn't, does, doesn't. Vriska thrashes back and forth in a different way. I'm sorry, see how sorry I am? Isn't being sorry ENOUGH? What more do you want? I'm sorry, not sorry, sorry, not sorry. And being not sorry takes the form of lashing out, incrimination, daring Terezi into action, calling her bluff, etc. So her vacillation is more like, I'm sorry, fuck you, I'm sorry, you don't have the guts, I'm sorry, just kill me already! The dangerous dance goes on and on.

so yes. vrisrezi good. vrisrezi complex. but what makes this even more tragic is how they act as the ultimate doomed yuri. before remem8er, terezi talks about a lot of heavy feelings she hasnt really let on before.

she talks about her sense of incompleteness in a way that reminds me of the way you see space players experience loneliness--which is cool given that mind as an aspect has some parallels to both space and time. and she talks about how shes never been complete on her own. going back to the instagram post i saw that said she doesnt feel rounded enough on her own--thats the point. so much of her character is defined by vriska that its a part of her own identity and a tragic part of her actual experiences. theres another hussie quote which is about vriska but still applicable--

For instance, you could write dozens of paragraphs of meta on Vriska alone. But the moment you stop writing about Vriska in a vacuum, and start writing about Vriska x Terezi, the avenues of analysis seem endless. It's a circuitous, psychologically tortured mutual arc of competitive codependency, which on closer inspection serves as the axis around which virtually the entire plot revolves.

her codependency with vriska is one of the most central components of the entire narrative. without terezi's internal torment over vriska there would be no homestuck as we know it. [s] flip and the aftermath of game over (F1X TH1S) are among the most important moments in the entire story and both are defined by vriska and terezi's dynamic.

im including this stuff without much commentary because it just acts as illustration of how much more depth to terezi than just crazy murdery lawyer dragon girl. yes, shes tormented over vriska and how she lost her in another timeline and all the choices shes made in different worlds but its also about her. her dependency on vriska is a symptom of this deep deep loneliness she holds inside her. theres something to be said about her lack of a lusus and specficially the fact that her lusus's egg was held on a scale weighing it against sburb-associated machinery

the prevention of her loneliness is always doomed. she has no lusus--but in order to have one, the world would have to end. she has vriska--but she loses her in every single timeline without fail. she flirts with the humans--but kills john in one timeline and dooms a dave in another. she cannot pursue intimacy or friendship or any form of relationship without losing both her loved ones along with everything else. its not just that she doesnt have a lusus--its that her lusus hatching will end the world. its not just that she loses vriska--its that in no timeline we see do they get a happy ending, and the closest they get in being erased from reality in each others arms.

she is tormented by so much more than just vriska. and i talk about this through so much angsty and dramatic words but its really true that shes so tragic. and tragedy isnt the only reason to love her because shes also so silly and crazy and weird and offputting etc but the instagram post that pissed me off so badly said that she became uninteresting after the earlier-comic characterizations of her with her bloodthirsty lawyer/executioner persona.

she says it here. yes she is weird and silly but beyond the parts of it that are engrained into her personality it seems to be (at least in part) an act to cover up how messed up she feels inside. she is so full of shenanigans and whatnot and doesnt display her issues the way a lot of characters do (even the prospit kids who are so known for repressing their emotions show more signs of distress that terezi does, to the point that hussie made sure to note that her distress was genuine when her lusus died!)

More great and very imaginative sound effects. "GENUINE" seems like maybe it's an unnecessary qualifier, until you consider that Terezi is so full of shit, many things she does could be considered ungenuine. So it pays to point out when she is sad for real, like when her newborn baby mom dies.

vriska, downright infamous for being surrounded in discourse around the context of her actions, is even more obvious than terezi. she too plays up an act of her unfazed coolness about all the stuff she does but shes less extreme about it in such a way that its more obvious when she slips a bit in that facade. when terezi is distressed she usually doesnt show it at all because her layers of weird silliness are too thick. shes just a lot better at the whole violent killing stuff than vriska is! you can see this in vriskas breakdown in vrisky business:

vriska has a total breakdown over realizing shell need to learn to hunt after losing her arm and she says this:

bascially saying that that prime difference between them is that vriska, yes, has learned to be ruthless and violent and manipulative (and was never a good person in the first place but it was her lusus that shaped her into being like this) while terezi never had that stress. she could do whatever she wanted and be as wild as she wished which is why she grew into the crazy troll girl who is the most important character in homestuck. with why i love her out of the way its some analysis timeeeeee.

i already mentioned how important flip and f1x th1s are but i wanna dive into that.

terezi exhibits an understanding of sburb's timelines better than anyone else, even time players, letting her do things like lead dave to her own doomed self on his quest bed, and it becomes clear that this is the nature of her mind powers, combined with a seer's intuition. she has many traits that involve seeing through different barriers, if that makes sense--she can navigate the world by forming a mental image of her surroundings by smell and taste after going blind, and she sees through the layers of sburb's bizarreness just as easily.

[s] flip is one of the first places this ability is used in a way this vital to the progression of the main plot--she uses her powers to stop vriska from dooming them all.

Any divergence from this path to my knowing will taper into blackness like rotting roots. But if I was a Seer, such offshoots would be fully within my domain... A Seer would support her allies in battle not with her weapons, but her vision. She would sift through dross of her comrades' poor tactical inclinations and examine the grim consequences. A Seer would not charge into the fray headlong but direct it as a conductor with a baton. She would have the sight to eschew the obvious gambits, and find the path to victory disguised cleverly as setback, or even imminent defeat. She would behold the fortunes of friends and foes in totality, and appraise the contrivance of luck itself...A true Seer would know where luck is a given, where it is absent, and most importantly, where it doesn't matter at all. And she would know victory doesn't matter in a reality where all else is doomed to fail.

being from doc scratch this is ofc not 100% reliable information but its still some good meta. the last couple lines really emphasize her narrative place--as a seer, she is aware of the big picture, and as a seer of mind, she is more specifically aware of the branching timelines formed in sburb. she is a mastermind behind the plot but lacks the tools to truly direct it. (and i will also go ahead and point out the line about acting as a conductor since thats a very important symbol in homestuck representing movements of the story much like an orchestral symphony.

the actual conductors we see are the cherubs, calliope in particular. calliope and caliborn are characters with actual narrative power (caliborn takes over the whole story!) so its pretty impressive to be compared to that.

but it turns out terezi does in fact have a place in the story almost at this level of power.

it's revealed that the initial version of the events following the coinflip were in terezi's vision:

and that she turned around on that initial path to prevent it from happening. on its own, this isnt that significant. but this moment is the moment that the retcons revolve around, with an entire axis of the plot centered around this single moment between vriska and terezi woven together with terezi's visions and powers.

john may be the one to carry out the actual retcons, but terezi is both the one who ordered him to do so and the orchestrator of the entire narrative rewrite. this is the moment when she raises the conductors baton. this is why i refer to terezi rewriting the universe, not john.

all john did was use his powers to carry out the list of instructions that terezi used her powers to develop. most of them are of arguable vitality but the one that truly changes everything is the rewriting of vriska's death. by doing this, terezi is the reason why homestuck does not end in the disaster of game over. were it not for terezi, homestuck would have a far more tragic ending that the bittersweet conclusion we're actually left with. there are many characters who display a level of narrative control--vriska pulling the spotlight towards herself and being somewhat aware that a narrative like homestuck exists; the very existence of john's powers; doc scratch's role as a stand-in narrator on a level comparable to hussie's avatar; caliborn's narrative takeover in act 6 and ascension to lord english; calliope's role as a storyteller of the existing narrative--the list goes on. but terezi's actions are perhaps the most significant, even if her level of control is nowhere close, rewriting the story of homestuck entirely. she does get the password pages in there, which i'll definitely count as a sort of metanarrative presence in the presentation of the comic (like caliborn and doc scratch's site rethemes). yes, john does the necessary actions to achieve this end, but would not have been able to do so without the anchor points of terezi's direction of the plot.

and once again, this is inseparable from her relationship with vriska. yes, she does this to give another timeline a chance at victory, and to carry on her story in another life as she dies in the pre-retcon timelines, but it's also for vriska. killing vriska broke terezi as much as it broke the narrative and so rewriting canon for vriska gives that other version of herself a second chance. there is not point in leaving vriska out of this because the relationship between the two and the push and pull of their tumultuous dynamic is what is at the heart of the narrative--not one or the other.

and even with such a significant role, she is still bound to her fate outside of the changes john can make. im gonna bring back some dialogue from earlier--

she does not have the godlike narrative position that the cherubs achieve. shes not even a godtier! and thats another part of what makes her so tragic. she knows enough about sburb to navigate it and play it to her advantage but not enough to gain the self fulfillment she wants.

highlighting this part, her seer abilities are both her greatest power over the narrative and one of her most tragic parts.

she has access to infinite timelines and choices and can tell how things will turn out but she cant simply unlock those realities and memories beyond her experiences. having the access to the memories of a better life also isnt necessarily a plus.

the access to this knowledge seems to be a part of why she is so internally desperate for answers. the solution is right there seemingly but just out of reach. and in this desperate moment of trying to unlock those answers?

she remem8ers. (and i know the title of the flash is a reference to the song used in it but i will also point out just how vrisrezi it is to have her desperate attempts to recall her other self's memories be written in vriska's typing quirk)

at the end of this flash, terezi and vriska are about to be literally wiped from reality forever. and yet, they face that end smiling in each others arms. they are no longer relevant. there is no narrative significance to this moment. but its still what terezi needed to see in order to fulfill that part of herself.

Favorite Rote Book: Assassin's Quest and Fool's Errand

Why: I love Assassin's Quest because there's a lot of my favorite parts in the whole saga in it: Fitz and the Fool in Jhaampe, Kettle (who's a character that I love a lot), the stone dragons... It's very epic and I love it.

On the contrary, I love how Fool's Errand is mundane and domestic, especially in the beginning. Once again, Fitz and the Fool in the cabin is one of my favorite moments in the whole series. I also love the persona of Lord Golden.

Top Three Favorite Characters: The Fool, of course (I speak so much of him that pretty much all my friends know him, even if they've never read the books!). Kettricken is another character that I love a lot. And Umbre, even if he's morally grey, but that's why I like him! I also love Nighteyes and Lady Patience a lot, but we're supposed to only say three characters.

Top Three Least Favorite Characters: Galen, Hest and Dwalia

Favorite Ship (of the floating kind): Paragon. I love his character development and his relationshp with Amber is beautiful.

this is the exact thing i love about palisade. endless interpersonal problems, and we know every single reason why those problems exist, going back six in-universe and four irl years. and also, like, forty thousand in-universe years. deep and granular character work is the strength of epics!!!! i am always saying this!!!!

standout of this ep was obviously that brnine/gucci conversation. oh my god. props to austin for hitting bullseye after bullseye of terrible shit to say. no misses, but like, all misses. i am kicked back eating wine flavored popcorn

does gucci know brnine got the blue channel from valence? i don’t think it’d matter, but she so comprehensively does not understand the blue channel in every other way. which is so… fascinating

actually that’s not all. thisbe: felt culpable for valence’s death, has since come to accept the inevitability. “maybe one day i’ll grieve for all of it all at once, but like, right now i need to focus on other stuff.” making grief a thing for the future, in a way. but who knows when that future is going to arrive. also a distinct approach from the rest of the blue channel, to both recognize the need for grief and then deliberately set it aside. and to compartmentalize unavoidable truths, as thisbe has done for many things in favor of (whatever she perceives to be) her purpose.

so pleased to find out more about the caldera stretch. it’s just outrageously big and i have always wanted to know what’s going on in there. fingers very crossed that eclectic pursues his lead on opposition and frees the divines being used for delegation—would be a great finale move for this season

similarly, really excited to have the afflictions onstage! would love to see that resolved in some way (especially perhaps thisbe talking to them? or partial palisade?)

I'd say she'd be pretty well known, has a good amount of followers

She's not famous by any means, but there are a few teasing comments from her classmates and or friends. For example: "Oh my god, is that (insert her username)! Can I get an autograph???" Y'know, stuff like that

I'd say she's chronically online, constantly quoting the latest memes and is sort of up to the trends. Would do the typical dumb dares people have made up, but is always doing them on the brink of the trends end

I'd say her favorite app is... Tiktok? Yeah, looks like she'd be obsessed with that app

Knows more about the news and global warming and all of the stuff that the adults are supposed to hear and worry about. I'd feel like she'd have multiple weird facts pop up on her FYP and would either spill the horrors of her 'fun facts' to her mother, or would run to Lilith to tell her yet another fun fact she managed to find

And as for the Instagram bit, as previously stated, she'd have quite the amount of followers. I'd feel like she would post her 'epic stunts' that she did in the backyard, you could hear a faint voice of her mom yelling her full name before she cuts the video short. Also is the type of person to post horrendous memes on her page (I am guilty of that crime 😔)

She always leaves encouraging comments on her friends Instagram posts and stuff, I feel like I should put that in

As for her texting style, it's caos. No commas, no new rows, no punctuation, no nothing. Literally texts like this

Is actually pretty famous... Well, at least on her other profile

She's that 'aesthetic smart girl' you see on your page that never shows her face. Also does bomb powerpoint presentations and posts them on her account (ppl eat that stuff upppp)

Eda would be the only one to know about her secret account and she swears to keep her mouth shut. Although the secret account does slip out of Edas mind often, so Lilith doesn't have to worry all that much about the word spreading

But, on her main account which she shares with her friends... It's literally just her friends. Of course, you have her sister and people she hangs out with/is cool with, as well as her club members, but thats pretty much it

On her main, she mostly posts stuff about her school and her successes, such as the awards she gets in contests of the medals/trophies she recives

Again, Eda will the the one hyping her up in her comments, but she doesn't dare to hype her up on her secret account, as to not rish accidentally spilling the beans in the comments somehow

For her favorite app... I'd have to say: 'Instagram'. I would've said Pinterest but it doesn't quite sit right with me fully... Instagram feels like a better fit

Always scrolling through reels, but also opens Tiktok from time to time (specifically to search for the memes Eda is quoting so that she isn't as confused)

Texts normally, like how you'd see people text on the daily. But, if she's mad, I can also see her writing painfully grammatically correct sentences with words that everybody forgets the meaning of

They'd mostly post selfies with their friends, of course an occasional recording of their progress with their violin as well as some bard magic tricks (like that whistling in the cup)

Doesn't get that many comments on their posts, but when they do they make sure to either like it or fully reply

Isn't as chronically online as Eda but is up to date with the memes. Is always able to quote with or continue a quote Eda began. Trends always somehow end up on their for you page when they're scrolling on Tiktok

Favorite app? Oddly enough: 'Twitter' 'X'. Loves to read the drama people have, and when there is nothing to do they just scroll onto people's accounts

And for the texting style: the perfect middle. Just enough punctuation to make it make sense, but not too formal to make it look like a business e-mail

(my guess is that he uses the favor charlie promised to help release him from the deal and then charlie regrets it later when he goes crazy)

anyways all in all the finale is crazy good and i will NOT be getting over it any time soon and i am not ready to wait another few years 🥲

What are your top ten favorite scenes in Avatar the Last Airbender?

Hello again!

Ok… so ummm… they are in no particular order:

1. The last Agni Kai of course: The music, colors, emotions, the rise of one sibling & fall of another. I adored the red vs blue & of course the whole ‘self sacrificing Zuko’ lol

2. “get out of the bisons mouth Sokka”: It was just so funny to me Zuko was already done with everyone shit and he JUST joined the gaang imagine if he has joined season 1 hahah.

3. Zuko swimming into the NWT: because like…. You fucking idiot.

4. Anytime aang went into the avatar state (esp in season 1): he was such a goofy child then he would start to glow & there was so much power inside him idk I thought it added to his character a lot and reminded people that this kid is the fucking avatar

4. “Come back when the good is on the outside too”: or however the quote goes when iroh came to get the gaangs help to save Zuko and Sokka once again was just like nahhh fuck that guy. (This also goes along with the Sokka wanting to leave Zuko to die in the snow - I just love he wasn’t having any of zukos shit)

5. Zukos gay fire breath and sokkas bi awakening: because for an early 2000s show that was hella gay

6. Zuko blue spiriting to save aang: it was moment I think I started to like Zuko haha.

7. When the gaang was training for the final battle with Ozai & they were all fighting together & at the end Sokka and Zuko were pretty much like you gotta kill the fire lord aang & Sokka sliced the melon head in half; (toph being the melon lord was epic too)

8. Sokka Ice dodging a bato: idk that was such an important moment for Sokka & he deserves to feel important and have a male figure invest time into him so hell yeah Bato.

9. It’s a tie between Sokka telling toph boomerang isn’t coming back & toph saying “that’s a lot of fire isn’t it?”: the seriousness of that scene and the way Sokka never stopped fighting & how he would have held onto toph as long as he could - it was such a powerful moment (& then of course Suki saved the day!!)

10. Last but not least the kyoshi warriors training with Suki whooping Sokka into shape! Suki is one of my favorites and she is both firm and gentle with Sokka which I think is fun! (& then Zuko comes to burn everything down and Sokka gets to fight with the uniform on haha!)

11. Because fuck it, any scene with Zuko & Jet interacting - it’s like two scenes, one when they kissed on the ferry, and then their major break up with swords. That’s how it happened don’t argue with me.

Okay, how would a beach trip for the MSB kids be like (if Ms. Frizzle doesn't show up and turn it into a field trip... and what happens if Ms. Frizzle does should up and make it a field trip)

Some of their time at the beach is spent relaxing on the picnic blanket, and some of the time is spent exploring and goofing off.

Some things the kids would do (based on my experience going to the beach):

Tidepooling (this is Wanda's favorite activity)

Watching and photographing shorebirds

Frisbee or beach volleyball

Collecting shells

Stone-skipping

Getting their feet wet (and then somewhat regretting it afterward because now their feet are cold)

Someone (probably Ralphie) quotes Anakin Skywalker's "I hate sand" speech from Star Wars. ("I hate sand. It's coarse, it's rough, it's irritating, and it gets everywhere!")

Surfing and/or bodyboarding

Carlos spends a lot of time climbing on the rock formations (at least the ones that aren't fenced off) and collecting as many rocks as he can.

Tim takes this trip as an opportunity to do some plain-air sketches. He also brings his watercolors.

Phoebe immediately falls in love with the plovers and sanderlings and oystercatchers. She spends as much time as possible observing them.

Building sandcastles. And by this, I mean really epic-looking sandcastles. There are multiple turrets, a moat with a drawbridge, an outer defensive wall surrounding a central keep, and more.

Wanda, Ralphie, and Carlos start digging a huge hole for treasure. They convince everyone else to help. (There is no treasure, and they know that. However, the allure of a Big Hole in the sand is too much to resist.)

Obviously they bring food. However, there are seagulls around, which means someone has to be on "seagull duty" at all times. (This just means you guard the food from the seagulls, and chase away any that get too close.) The kids draw straws to decide who has to be on seagull duty first. Arnold is usually the first, and he does not like it. (He has a grudge against seagulls because one stole an entire bag of cheese puffs from him.)

Essentially, on the day I met Guiding Eyes Corky #3cc92 the blind part of me was starving. Suddenly there was a dog—a “service dog,” “guide dog,” “seeing-eye dog,” an epic dog, a professional dog, who was entirely my companion. “Yes, it took me a long time to get here,” I thought. But I could see Corky didn’t care about my lengthy delay at all. She was interested in my left eyebrow, my fingers. She scented the history of my clothes. She was interested in me—the present-tense man, the one who was before her wearing sturdy L.L.Bean outdoor gear. In order to meet Corky I’d had to suffer losses, wring my hands, and even sweat. One minute I’d been a professor at a small liberal arts college in upstate New York. The next I was a job seeker whose teaching position had been erased. It’s a routine story and ordinarily it shouldn’t have been devastating but owing to blindness I couldn’t simply switch gears and drive a cab or wait tables. Unemployment had pitched me in a dark wood with no discernible path.

Steven Kuusisto, Have Dog Will Travel (2018). Chapter Two. Bold emphasis mine.

One of the things Kuusisto is really insecure about, in the beginning, is his lack of "blind culture": because he's spent his entire life masking and trying to be perceived as a sighted person, he doesn't have the skills or the life experience he imagines other blind people to have. (He's 39 here, incidentally; not a young man.) He feels behind, adolescent, missing important skills--and he feels terribly stuck.

Corky serves two purposes here: one, she's actually an important aid device for Kuusisto's independence, as we will make clear in future excerpts. But she also serves to make it very clear that Kuusisto is blind and that he is part of a broader category of people for whom vision isn't useful. She claims this part of Kuusisto's identity for him and serves as a very visible cue to what he can and can't do--and in doing so also invokes federal law. This is happening circa 1993, as a reminder: the ADA exists, but it is an extremely new thing.... as we will see in the next quote.

By existing, Corky essentially "outs" Kuusisto as belonging to a community he has spent his entire life hiding from. (Kuusisto is straight--he mentions his wife in the first chapter, as an aside talking about her experience training guide dogs vs riding horses--but the parallels to queer experience are strong and easy to see, especially in the context of self acceptance and shame.) She claims his place in that community by existing. She represents this transition from hiding in shame--"the blind part of me was starving"--to owning his position as a blind man and interacting with other blind people as a form of community. Kuusisto will go on to immerse himself in disability advocacy and blindness advocacy more general over the course of his career, so this is an incredibly significant transition for him--and, powerfully, Corky herself is a strong reassuring presence in a way that other visible markers of identity can't be. The ace flag pin that lives on one of my favorite hats can't sooth me when I'm frightened, for example, but Corky can (and does) habitually lean into Kuusisto and nudge him when he's nervous or ashamed.

Note also the vulnerability of disability: when we have managed to kludge a system into something that works for us, sudden change can be completely life-destroying. Kuusisto notes that he has worked as a lecturer teaching poetry on the same campus he attended college, where his father was the president, for his entire adult life with the exception of a few years of graduate school in Iowa City. Where can he work now that this position is no longer available to him? How will he get around?

Um... Bob's not doing too well. He wants to walk the dog. Charlie has already walked Dog (my muse from Part I.)

Charlie's following him around but he respects Bob's unspoken need for distance.

Charlie's really taking it hard, but I know Bob's going to have an epic meltdown once the ice thaws (to loosely quote Grace Kelly's boyfriend-character Mark in Dial M for Murder: "Later, you're going to have a beautiful cry.")

Ohhhhhhhhh, got it. The dog (Mel? ...still better than Bob) waits by the door for Jane Bennett every time.

They kicked up the 90s slow memory sequence.

And Bob's crying.

Okay, he's really crying.

Okay, I dig this.

Bob, you've endeared me to Bob. I shall lay "the bit" to rest in peace. ...With Elizabeth.

Look, I know that was a low blow, Bob, but it had to be done.

Old grandfather prays to his favorite battle saint for Minnie's heart.

Bonnie? the mom friend is an actual mom wrangling her entire family, including the older generations.

Old grandpa Marty is devoted to his candle and prayers.

More 90s slow mo--

I was going to say this reminds me of the 90s slow dance slow mo sequences I typically think are in romcoms and now it's back to Bob while he continues to sob on the floor as Mel (who is no longer my stand-in, I suppose, you can't come back from a name like Mel) sits there, unfazed.

Oooh, look--

Grandpa is the only one awake-- prayed that heart back to life.

And the camera goes back to Bob when the heart starts beating again, waking him up.

Coincidence? With Tuscany and vacations and romance to be had???

Methinks he will sniff out the jig and bring all the pieces together by the end (because there's got to be a 3/4 misunderstanding, right?)

I like how casual Bonnie Hunt's style is-- it's a gentle, lived-in world.

Grace, as we shall now call her, bikes in the street with kids-- not, as her grandfather cautioned, on the side of the road.

Doctor's appointment!

"Oh, of course I'm happy. What else am I going to be?"

..................Yeahhhhhhhhhh, you're not happy.

Grace: saved from death, still insecure about her scar, and slowly bumping herself back to life. An imperfect survivor, a normal human.

A mood.

"I'm alive and someone else is dead." A mild form of survivor's guilt, I see, I see.

"He's a great listener" was a great joke.

Bob is grumpy and determined and driven I see.

Two morbid souls will collide at the zoo over the rubber monkey enclosure, I reckon.

Another girl, another mood:

It's been a year and friend Bonnie finally convinces her to mail the "thank you for your heart" letter.

"Okay, everyone clap for Auntie Grace, she just mailed a very important letter." Amazing.

Bonnie shoving everyone past the construction workers was also amazing.

Bonnie's a fave (and love that she gave herself-- if this is the same Bonnie-- a great role that doesn't outshine the main leads. It's respectful and kind.)

Bob still obsessively guards Jane Bennett's memory.

The heart's pumping again. Pumpity pump pump.

Bow chicka-- nope, they missed each other.

But Grace felt something and highlighted that her heart beating didn't hurt (hmmmmmmmmmmm foreshadowing.)

I CALLED IT the gorilla's doing the hand thing that he used to do with Jane Bennett aka Elizabeth... lastnamehere, ahem ahem.

Bob's mad and tells off a board room.

"I'm here because of my wife. You got it?"

Thank you for that shot, Bonnie.

I'm becoming a big Bonnie fan, as you can tell.

Charlie is setting his man up with a date only a year later, right after he tore apart a board room AND is working his men overtime for his late wife??? ...Charlie, my man, you're going to have to work miracles. You should meet Minnie Driver's Catholic grandpa, he'd adore you.

Wait, Charlie's a vet? Oh, wait, yeah, he works at the zoo.

Introducing new kid on skates.

"Look at you! Where are you going?"

"I don't know!"

This is the quality content I hoped for.

Skates boy holds down the fort-- a valuable guy.

"C'mon, pal," Bob chastises because Mel won't kick the "wait for Elizabeth" habit. (In the first part I likened the dog to be my self-insert. This dog is nothing like me, and I am immeasurably disappointed.)

Subtle touch of immense irritation at someone knocking on the door.

Is it time to reenact how happy he was compared to how mad he'll get at Mel now? The set up and payoff?

Here we go.

"Eat back here like a normal person--"

Chuckle worthy, but also.

He softens up; but the dog doesn't budge too much.

"You made it halfway."

That's the theme, I'll bet.

"You gotta snap out of it, buddy."

This makes Bob reflect, and he decides to kick some of his own Pavlovian responses-- and ends up on a truly horrendous date.

At least, I know that part's coming up and I'm pumped.

The old men's song convo comes back: they were selecting music for their restaurant. Nice touch.

Grandpa surprises her with tickets to Italy to paint cuz he was staring earlier at her painting earlier and it's these little moments that make me repeat words like "earlier" too frequently.

The waitress lady missed Grace's initial reaction and is put out. The banter is epic.

And Angelo talked the grandpa into it and Minnie knows this and thanks them all in a way that reflects their separate bonds. Good storytelling.

Angelo set her up with a hair transplant man (reminds me of a joke Bill Burr? told about stapling ants to your head for vanity's sake.)

Angelo's taste in vacations? Top tier.

Angelo's taste in men? Absolute bottom tier... though the guy's cheerful, so there's that.

I love this.

I don't even need a romance at this point I just want to watch the two live their separate, slowly recovering lives.

As promised, here's a masterlist of all the things people said they enjoyed about Crystalized! Just for positivitiy sake :) Plus my own favorites after!

The ninja's reactions to grief! Specifically Zane turning off his memory swith! All of the ninja's responses were really good and in character, even tho the show doesnt go super in depth. (personally i like how they left it up to us to fill in the details after they gave us the main idea as to how they reacted)

Pixal having more screen time! Bonus: her scene with Zane when she thinks he's gone. 10/10 pain

lots of call backs to pilots/season 1! like the original four's interactions with eachother.

Adding on to the previous one, Wu going up to Cole and Jay first, bc they were the first ones of the original ninja he found (not counting Zane) This was somethign I hadn't noticed until pointed out!

Reunions! Cole and Vaniam + the Uply! Benthomar showing up, ect.

Zane and Mr. F's fight :) nice call back!

Multiple people said that scene with Cole getting a concussion and Kai taking care of him! It was really sweet and a lot of people said they liked how they showed the ninja actually getting hurt and it STICKING. Showing the concequences. 10/10

Nyad being tragic and also very sweet as a character!

FUGI fucking DOVE! He is my all time favorite villan (not counting Garmadon ofc). The scene in the desert is 10 times better if you pretend he's a figment of Jay's imagination. but also it's hilarious on it's own. I don't ship him and jay but also, maybe?

OMG you asked the two crushes!

Eowyn:

First impression: I was blown out as a child. Beside the look and the sleeves... Oh my god I remember the day I saw her, I wanted to be her so bad and dress like her and the JOY when she and Faramir, the other besties kissed! They were my first OTP and I remember I was so happy and started drawing stuff.

Impression now: Freaking epic. I reconsidered a little her crush over Aragorn as No lady YOU'RE A BABY LEAVE THE DILF ALONE. Still, she's one of the characters I like the most ever and the one I'll slam upon everyone uncautious enough to tell me to my face that Tolkien didn't know how to write women or was a maschilist. He was a man of his time, sure. Maschilist? No I don't think so. She's a complex character struggling with her place in the world and in a world that tries to define her. She is good and honourable... But still will carve her path with her bare hands if she must. And she did, and in the end did a lot, she fought to find the place she wanted and it paid off. Had Tolkien really been a maschilist, she wouldn't have slain the Witch King. In the end she chooses to settle down, yes, but on her own terms. At least, I read it like this. It's not staying because she's a woman and that's her place, it's staying because she tasted heroism, she did her part, the war is over and it still wasn't enough. But maybe finding people that understand her and don't try to tie her up... Maybe that's enough. "Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose".

Favorite moment: "I am no man." Hands down the most epic moment in the saga can't beat that. Slay, girl.

Idea for a story: Seriously, ANYTHING with her. More of her relationship with Eomer and Theodred maybe? More Edoras pre-war and how Wormtongue crept his way in? I love Rohan as a concept so really anything with that I'll be down for.

Unpopular opinion: Is there an unpopular opinion of. I don't think there is, we're all Eowyn stans here are we. I'll maybe say that Eomer had an equal crush over Aragorn and BOTH of them were pining hard. ("Aragorn senpai look at me ridigin into battle! :D" cit. book!Eomer)(quoted as unpopular because I never saw it around that much)

Favorite relationship: *looks above* She and Faramir dealing with coping with failed expectations (their own or others') and finding softness together. Also every interactions she has with Theoden is gold, and her relationship with Merry is as well! Besties.

Favorite headcanon: This fic I read from @scyllas-revenge lives in my head rent free and it's just... The ultimate fluff.

Cassandra:

First impression: "Oh damn this dude got himself into serious troubles, I wouldn't go against that woman. Pretty tho.". I tried to romance her at first in Inquisition and was very sad when she turned Aisling down. (you can all mock her and her Templar kink, yes.)

Impression now: I love Cassandra and her flaws and contradictions. I love that she's basically made of granite, you won't move her with cannons... and yet, she's there, ready to think twice and change her mind accordingly. She's multi-faceted and honestly one of the funniest characters in Inquisition. I love strong women that have a soft side and she has definitely one.

Favorite moment: The cutscene in Trespasser. Years pass and yet she'll still be gullible to a good romance story told by her very favourite author.

Idea for a story: A modern AU where she is the one and only author writing in the Swords & Shields fandom. Varric reads every single one of her stories, at first it was to mock her and her inability to recognise a trash book, then he felt affectionate to this utter devotion. A Misery AU with her an Varric. (...thinking about it better, DA2 is really a Misery fantasy AU...) Beside that, something exploring the aftermath of her nasty comments over Elven religion if you bring her along in one specific mission. An elf inquisitor facing her on that and discussing it. I wrote part of this months ago oops.

Unpopular opinion: She'd make the worst Divine of the three and would suffer greatly in the role.

Favorite relationship: She and Varric. In any sauce and way and in tutti i luoghi e tutti i laghi.

Favorite headcanon: She's Varric and Hawke number 1 fangirl, she read the Tale of the Champion and begged to be sent to interrogate them. When she meets Hawke, she's internally screaming and won't wash the hand Hawke shook for the whole day.
