since twi alec is a party planner and assuming c*mille somewhat exists there how do u think he would inconvenience her.........
this reminds me of so many Extremely Bad takes on twi camille i have seen before hfjkfldsjl will not get into it but ohhh my god people will just say anything huh
anyway we don't know (or at least i don't lmao) when the twi world went on "lockdown" so to speak, and also i don't know what magnus' relationship timeline is in canon at all, but i'm pretty sure after camille he was single and healing for ~100 years? i cant remember lol but imo it would be neat if magnus and camille breaking up and the lockdown aligned
why tho liv? u ask. well bc then, instead of escaping to/thru parties and crowds of people, like sh magnus did, it would make sense for magnus to escape to the mundane. oh my god lol spotify just gave me a cruella ad. seems fitting hfjsddks
anyway yeah in my mind twi malec are just living their life w/o camille interfering at all, she's either dead or fucked off to some other part of the world and magnus is finally free of her, but if she does show up alec would be rightfully insufferable to her. i dont know if u can get blacklisted from hotels and venues and shit but can u imagine camille in new york and literally everyone refusing to cater her. vindication
i mean as a party planner wouldn't alec have contacts all over the city? he would do literally everything he could to get her to stay far away from magnus. fuck camille

The thing about Camille enthusiasts is that they often do Olympic level of mental gymnastics trying to prove she wasn’t always like that. For example, I legit saw takes like ‘she couldn’t be an awful abuser from the beginning because Magnus wouldn’t fall in love with her’. And I’m like ??? Abusers are highly manipulative. They expertly creat an atmosphere of relationship to lure their victim. One of the vague signs of a potentially abusive relationship is how perfect it feels ->
Initially it feels like you found your perfect partner, your soulmate. Everything is pure perfection, it’s like an ideal love story. Then an abuser starts showing their face when you’re most trusting, in love, and vulnerable. Like I want to remind everyone, that Magnus literally said that HE loved Camille and wished she would love him back. It wasn’t requited or genuine or honest, it was extremely toxic game of emotional abuse from her side. Magnus was her victim from the very beginning. She treated him like a play toy. Yes, she saved his life. But like abusers sometimes do that and later use it as a tool to manipulate their victims
i particularly love that line of reasoning camille stans use because it pretty much implies that abuse doesn't exist??? like. if it worked in such a way that abusers displayed abusive behavior from the start. no one would date them?? and it would be impossible to abuse someone?? like. do you hear yourself
anyway yes camille used magnus and she saved his life, yes, but she pretty much did that so she could keep playing with him lol and used that against him later, many many times, including onscreen, so like, jot that shit down

Talking to @wolfspirals has me thinking:
While I absolutely love that Magnus, in his "youth", was the guy who showered Camille in gifts- the necklace, the snake- I can not see, and do not want to see, Magnus showering Alec in gifts. First off, I can't see Alec as being someone who would enjoy being showered in gifts. Secondly, Magnus was younger then. Third, his relationship with Camille was tumultuous and toxic- and in my opinion at least somewhat abusive- so of course he thought he had to do that to keep her. He doesn't need to do that with Alec, Alec wouldn't like it, and if for some reason insecurities got the better of Magnus and he did start giving Alec a bunch of gifts I can't see Alec letting him continue to do it without making sure Magnus knew he didn't need all the gifts.

Are we ever going to find out why the knife that killed Magnus's mother is just on display in Camille's summer house in Agra? Like what the hell?! Why did she have it?!!?? Will this ever be addressed??!? I need answers. Was it just there because the plot required it and needed Magnus to get the knife before the reveal of what it is in ep 5 so his chracter arc could be introduced? This reminds me of the whole spell book never being mentioned again, but I have actual hopes they'll bring that up. I don't think they'll explain this. But someone really needs to!! How did she get it? Magnus's mom was born before the 1600s, so how long has she had this? Why? To blackmail? To mock? Wtf camille. W t f

alexsun2004 replied to your post: I was thinking about that post I made last night...
I get what you are talking about. It is so annoying that Alec is the most important person in the world for Magnus, but not the other way around. But I think that Magnus is also happier, because of Alec. Maybe not in 2x17, but generally. Alec is at least trying to do the right thing and he cares about Magnus which is more than most of Magnus’ past lovers were doing. I hope that Alec will get his shit together soon and he will stop hurting Magnus.
It’s not just 217, the relationship has made Magnus miserable this entire half of the season, since 212 (214 was particularly hurtful for me, and people keep dismissing it). Because frankly, Alec’s reaction to the bodyswap plot is not one of someone that truly, deeply, beyond one’s self, cares about another person. Just imagine how Alec would have acted if it had been Jace or Isabelle trapped in Valentine’s body. You can’t convince me he wouldn’t have done everything in his power to save them, whereas with Magnus he did literally nothing.
And I really don’t know where this “all of Magnus’ exes were assholes” thing you guys make up comes from? Maybe it’s the books, but even then: there’s NOTHING in the show to back that up. Dot was madly in love with him (and probably still is), she ADORES him and treasures him (which is why, when he was feeling down in 213, he gave in and flirted with her to feel better).
I see a lot of shippers that love tearing down his relationship with Camille to elevate M*lec, but what we actually know about them is a) she broke his heart and he still loves her and hurts for it; b) they loved each other and were obsessed with each other and went around the world being amoral immortals and c) she cared enought and knew him enough to talk him down from a suicide atempt. I assume its (a) what makes people go with the headcanon of “Magnus never dated a nice person who loved him”, but I still find it ridiculous. In 400+ years, with countless partners, someone as charismatic and gorgeous and powerful and incredible as Magnus didn’t find ONE SINGLE PERSON who loved him beyond reason? Of all the people he’s been with, I’m supossed to think it’s Alec, whose feelings for Magnus are at best lukewarm, the one who loved him the most? I really can’t buy that. And I don’t understand how people that call themselves Magnus fans can even entertain that idea.
And I really don’t get the “Alec’s gotta get his shit together” part. What’s hurting Magnus is seeing Alec’s feelings for him are much weaker than his for Alec, that he gladly makes sacrifices for Alec while Alec isn’t able to truly compromise anything for him. And Alec is just... not that into him. I don’t see how he’s gonna wake up one day with a complete rewrite of his relationship with Magnus, when so far he’s treated it like a safety school.

                 shadowhunter chronicles
vampire. if she had it her way, she'd be as reclusive as her cousin but duty calls, & this time duty is in the form & face of an old friend. after being turned by a vampire several centuries ago, the former centurion finds herself swept up in institute politics all over again - but this time, from a different perspective. oh no, now she's debating policy from the other side of the aisle as the new head of the new york vampire clan.
status: open for interaction canon: the shadowhunter chronicles location: various, thread dependent
as the bloodshed mounted around the cluj institute, the Valerious family - the long-suffering heads of the institute - realized they were losing ground in the war against hecate. sending word to Idris, Anna Valerious asked for one of their elite warriors - a centurion like herself - to come to their aid.
Katherine answered the summons & traveled to the depths of Transylvania to aid an old friend from her time at the scholomance. unfortunately for her, the problem was already far worse than anyone could imagine. they toyed with her for two weeks, alternately draining her just enough & letting her start to heal before a fledgling vampire brought her close enough to death to trigger her bodying turning.
The clave, trying desperately to bury their mistake, struck her name from their records bar the most sealed, important documents. now, as kate kane, she's buried her past to pass herself off as one of the oldest vampires alive & familiar to many - including friendly with the Clave, something very few can explain in such a turbulent, anti-downworlder climate. even more confusing, now that she's been called to lead the new york clan in camille's absence.
after the demise of one camille belcourt, & subsequent events leaving the New York Clan leaderless & aimless, Kate gets the call from an old friend to come take command & be the good influence she doesn't believe herself to be.
moving into Camille's old apartments & taking command of the clave is one thing - finding herself somewhat enthralled with the shadowhunters is something else entirely.

Magnus Bane doesn’t have a lot of friends, and he’s not what people at Idris High would consider ‘cool’. Recovering from a heartbreak and struggling with his anti-lgbt grandfather, he’s trying to really focus on his acting hobby so he doesn’t end up going back into the dark hole he had been on a few months earlier. Alec Lightwood, in the same year as Magnus, looks like a supermodel and comes from a very influent family of lawyers, which makes him a part of the popular gang in school. He lost his sight when he was 6, so he can’t fully wrap his head around the fact that such a big part of his life in school is shaped by the way he looks; and it actually really annoys him sometimes. Alec’s life is driven by rules and tradition, and he’s okay with it, for the most part; however, he wants some independence, and while searching for it, he stumbles across Magnus, who’s just as repulsed by other people’s standards and expectations as him. They find themselves inevitably gravitating towards each other, but seeing is deceiving, and sometimes you need to look within to embrace what’s right in front of you.

I always wondered why is Alec always the one to make the first move? And why magnus is suprised by that? Is he waiting for Alec to reach out first?
imo? yes. or rather he's not waiting because he kinda doesn't expect displays of affection. but yes i do think magnus is holding himself back
there are many reasons i believe that. first one, magnus canonically thinks that he's too much to handle, he's said so himself, both as a joke and in seriousness when he told alec that he knows he's a lot to deal with. second one, alec was in the closet five seconds ago and he is a shadowhunter, which makes magnus second-guess himself regarding touch and PDA because it feels like it's not going to be welcomed. this reason has two subsections as well: one, we know that magnus pretty much never touches people without permission and hates being touched without permission (think the way he wouldn't even touch alec's lips when he was flirting with him and how he never ever touched alec or even flirted with him with others around once he witnessed the demon fiasco, as well as the way he glared at jace when jace touched his shoulder). two, magnus has good reason to be wary of getting close to shadowhunters. those are the people who kill his people. and even though he knows alec is not going to like, try to murder him for no reason, it's still hard to ignore all that trauma and not fear initiating contact in that way, you know, especially when you know in shadowhunter culture they aren't very big on touch.
third reason, which i think is the most important one: magnus has been abused
both by his father and camille, so at least twice, and that's a very powerful thing. i have no doubt in my mind that camille's abuse rethoric in particular was very focused on him being needy (think her telling him that he doesn't do well losing those he loves, think her telling him that he would choose her because she could be with him forever. a lot of her rethoric relies on the idea that magnus needs her because he's too demanding and she's the only one that can give him what he needs, for one reason or another. and while she at the time was using it mostly to convince him to stay with her/take her side, abusers usually use their rethoric both to prove to make you stay and put you down. in my experience, abusers often paint their partners as needy, both to say "no one else would put up with you" and "i don't even know why i put up with you". only they will love you, but also, you are never fully deserving of their love, it's never enough, and you need to do better) and so planting this idea that he needed too much, asked for too much, was a lot to deal with. and - albeit in a different way, especially due to the different nature of that relationship - asmodeus wasn't much different. who else would love magnus, with his demonic eyes? anyone else would call him a monster and want nothing to do with him. he needs asmodeus, so he better be grateful for whatever asmodeus throws at him
that's another important point: abusers teach you that wanting anything at all out of a relationship is bad. either because it will be met with violence or because it proves that you are selfish, demanding, insecure, dependent, self absorbed, disrespectful, childish... take your pick. the reasons/rethoric vary, but the point they drive towards is always the same. that's what characterizes abuse: making you put aside your own needs/wants in the name of the other person's
so i think in general magnus was just kind of untaught to ask for what he wants or initiate that for himself. it's a trope we've seen many times in the show. when magnus is sad, he hides away. when he has a problem, he tries to deal with it on his own. he never asks for help, not once. he never initiates contact. he never admits he needs help. he never even asks for company. and he consistently puts other people's needs before his own, sacrificing himself way more than would ever be healthy, etc etc etc
and we gotta remember this is magnus' first serious relationship after he broke up with camille. he had been very deliberately avoiding opening his heart to anyone else, he said so himself. and seeing him with alec, it's pretty clear why. like, don't get me wrong, i think he's ready for a relationship, and you can't really start to learn to build better relationships post-abuse without having some problems and false starts and that's okay. but like you can see the way that he is always putting alec's needs before his own, assuming that that's how it would be, not expecting it in return - remember his genuine shock when alec came to rescue him in hell? after magnus had gone to hell for him and his family without thinking twice so many times? like bro... - being afraid of telling him about his history and even who his father was, canonically because he was scared alec would think less of him
it's pretty clear to me that magnus has that feeling in the back of his mind that he's going to get to be too much and at the same time he's not really enough. i also think he's a little scared of giving him weapons to use against him - like letting him know of asmodeus or his past. like, of course he is scared of being judged for the obvious reasons, but if you tell me that camille never used that against him... i have to laugh. and of course magnus knows that alec is not camille, but this isn't really about alec, it's about what camille has taught him, because one thing about abuse that i think people who haven't been abused downplay the importance of is that abusers make you think that abuse is normal. and it takes years of building better relationships to unlearn certain things. after i broke up with my first abuser, i was genuinely shocked every time my partners realized i was in pain without me having to say anything or ask them to stop. and i know they weren't anything like my first abuser who either didn't care or was too self absorbed to notice. but my experience with my abuser made me think that my partners not realizing or not caring that they hurt me was normal, when it obviously wasn't. and it's not that different with magnus and alec. magnus knows alec isn't camille. magnus knows alec wouldn't use his past abuse history against him. magnus knows alec isn't just playing with his feelings. but that doesn't matter, because his mind is just set to believe that he needs to hide his feelings, be afraid of vulnerability, and never, ever ask for anything if he can avoid it
so yeah that's why i think magnus doesn't go for kisses and love declarations or anything of the sort. it's not that he doesn't want it or feel it, cuz we know he does, but i think he feels like he's imposing on alec, that he's gonna scare him off, that he's too much, that he's just setting himself up for disappointment when alec inevitably doesn't feel for magnus as strongly as magnus does, etc etc. there are like, so many elements, honestly
i think he's learning and growing tho! i mean he has been for a long while, of course, it's why he was ready to start a new relationship in the first place. but like by the end of the seasons we got to be magnus being genuinely surprised that alec would dump him just like that, initiating more kisses, proposing (granted he already knew alec was gonna do it, but still), and even breaking down in front of him, although it wasn't really by choice djahdsah
but like either way i think he's slowly realizing that everything he's come to think of as just facts (like him being unlovable or too much or whatever) were really not. and i'd like to see him growing more confident in that sense, although i just love and am so glad that he gets to be with someone who feels just as intensely as him and isn't afraid to express it at all and who just... is right with him at every step, you know? i just really love that about them, even if obviously magnus needs to learn to express himself and be as emotionally open with alec as alec is with him

you talk a lot about magnus and camille dynamic and how they started and all that great meta content that you know i love but here's a question that idk if you ever got: how long do you think they were together? bc i can't think of a specific timeline and personally i love the one you talked abt at some point how she was pretty much right after asmododo or something like that, so he went from one type of abuse into another... but how long was he there? was camille with him for 20 years? 80? 130? any theories?
ugh that's a complicated one because i don't really have an answer for that and i think about it often as well
altho i think you got confused about her being right after asmodeus, i definitely don't think she was. i mentioned it my post about the timeline to say that magnus COULDN'T have been born close to the 1800s because that would make it asmodeus and camille way too close and that can't be the case because it would imply camille is basically the only person he dated before alec doajsdoaj and we know that's not true cuz there's also other ppl like george and etc. it was more a point in favor of "early to mid 1600s" for his birth date
anyway! let's go through this. i mentioned in another post that i think he got together with camille right after george, and that i think george died around the middle of the US civil war, which lasted from 1861 to 1865. so let's say they got together around 1863. now, we have a few pieces of information:
magnus mentioned that he hadn't been with anyone for "almost a century" when talking to alec. i know i think magnus is time blind but he can't be TOO off here. that was in 2016 so that would make their breakup date be a little after 1916 if magnus remembers correctly
literally the only thing about the timeline in that time period that i can remember is that one picture there was in his file of magnus surrounded by girls at a party, which looked to be in the 20s to me. since camille was an abusive asshole probably sabotaging his every chance to meet people, that couldn't have been when they were together. so i'd say 1920 is like, the limit for when they could have broken up. it's up to you whether or not you think magnus would be jumping into his party animal role immediately after the breakup or if it would take some time for him to heal; personally i think both make sense (i think she made a huge number on him so it would make sense for him to take a while to get back to that kind of thing; on the other hand, a lot of people turn straight to being party animals after breaking up abusive relationships, especially because for so long abusers have kept them from doing anything fun. so both work imo) so it's up to you
conclusion: they broke up in 1920 at the latest, so the max you could go for is 80 years, if you go with a timeline where camille was right after george (george can't be after camille because magnus has had no relationships after camille, but there could have been a bigger gap between george and camille than i personally hc). it could still be less tho, because we literally have NO information whatsoever on what happened between 1861 and 1920. even if you go with "they broke up and magnus immediately went full party animal" (which is perfectly valid), it's also entirely possible that this happened in say, 1901 and that pic just happened to be from the 20s, years later. but i also don't think it could have been a lot earlier than 1901 because magnus said almost a century, implying less than a century between the year they broke up and 2016. and while i do think that any immortal would lose track of time after a while and mingle years and decades together, nevermind adhd time blind icon magnus bane, if they had broken up in, say, 1880, magnus would remember that over a century has passed, if anything because so much has changed since then. so i think for him to say that the breakup should have happened in the 20th century at least
so that's the analysis from what we've seen in the show. personal opinion! i think 80 years makes sense, but is a bit much. it makes sense because there does seem to be a pretty obvious gap in magnus' file from the 1860s to the 1920s and then it goes back to having many pictures of him, and that "disappearance" makes sense in the context of him being in an abusive relationship (which limits your interactions and going outs by a lot). it does seem to be a bit much because magnus is at max 400, so, if they had been together 80 years, that would have been 20% of magnus' life spent with camille. or 1/5. added with all the time with asmodeus, it seems to be... a bit much dioadsoaijd and like look i'm not judging, i know abusive relationships can last many years and decades even for mortals, nevermind immortals, but i just don't like the idea of it lasting this long personally, especially because i think it makes him getting with alec seem actually a bit soon considering how long the abusive relationship lasted, and that's ignoring asmodeus' abuse on top of it
so personally, i like it morenif its around 40-50 years. i think it makes sense. it would mean the breakup was sometime around the 1910s, and while, okay, there is a gap in his file that seems to only end in the 20s, we must not forget an important fact: shadowhunters are stupid. so i actually think it makes sense that like, magnus emerges from his abusive relationship and is still getting back on his feet, and shadowhunters just don't care. like who is that guy? oh some warlock, no one's heard of him since like the 1860s lol. whatever happened to him? who cares. anyway, we love racism
and then around a decade later it turns out that magnus is healing enough to be a pain in their ass; say, that is when he becomes HWoB, or simply that they are reminded of how powerful magnus actually is once he is back in activity, and so they go back to like, investigating him and updating his file. so the file gap could be explained in that case. it also actually makes more sense that it would take shadowhunters a while to pay attention to him again, and since magnus was healing from an abusive relationship, the time it would take for him to draw their attention might well be around a decade
and with 40-50 years of an abusive relationship that would mean magnus has spent 10-12% of his life with camille; which is a LOT of time (for comparison: my first abusive relationship lasted a little over a year and i was 16 at the time; that makes it have lasted around 6% of my life at the time, and it did a HUGE number on me, taking me almost 3 years to have a relationship again), but not quite as much as a full 20%. not just that, but him taking "almost a century" (it would actually make it be a little over a century in this timeline, but again, magnus is immortal and time blind, so give him a break) to get with anyone again makes sense. that would be around double the time he's spent with her before he heals enough to be with someone else. that tracks, because abuse fucks you up fast and unfuckening yourself up takes longer. magnus isn't even fully unfucked up (which is okay, he doesn't have to be), but for him to be ready to take such huge steps as he is taking with alec, i think around double the time he's spent with her spent on healing makes sense
(again, i'm mostly going off my own experiences here; my abusive relationship lasted almost a year and a half, my next relationship was almost three years after the breakup. so almost perfectly double the time before i was ready to have another relationship. and again, i know recovery isn't the same for everyone and a lot of factors go into this, but i just think a timeline where he's been with her for 80 years and then gets with alec less than 100 afterwards is a bit too fast)
i still think 40 years is kind of a very long time to be in an abusive relationship and like holy shit i cant even imagine, but also i mean, mortals have abusive relationships that last that long and to an immortal itd feel like less time, and it does seem to be what best fits the timeline, so
and yeah i think those are my thoughts dadsajdsa
LAST MINUTE EDIT BEFORE THIS IS PUBLISHED CUZ IM NOT REDOING THE WHOLE THING: i got an anon today saying that magnus said something about not having seen camille in 130 years (link) which i didnt/dont really remember but i trust that theyre right and im wrong because i dont remember a lot of shit from this show. 130 years before 2016 would be 1886, meaning that if they broke up at that time and got together right after george's death as i personally hc, that's a 20-year relationship. that sounds like it fits the timeline as much as any other to me, and like i said in that ask, i think it makes sense that magnus would play it down to alec by saying "almost a century" instead of how long it's really been cuz it's a bit too vulnerable, and plus, we know one of the ways he protects himself is by not letting people pinpoint exactly some important dates from his past, particularly his birthday and etc
and okay i know that 20 years together, then 130 years recovering is a huge difference, but also i think with twenty years together as opposed to my comparatively short abusive relationship the scars of abuse would deepen a lot and quicker, so maybe it makes sense that it would take a longer time to feel confident enough to get to dating again. plus, like i said, there's no real math to be had in that process, everyone is different, has their own history and recovery process and etc so it's not like there is a deadline. so actually scratch everything i said above im going with this timeline. the one thing that doesn't track with that is the gap in his file but also like i said shadowhunters are stupid, so. yeah 20 years together is probably closer to it
in the end its kind of a relief cuz i was like "holy shit 40 years is so LONG" so... yeah udndidn

Thinking back to the whole “this person wants Camille and Magnus back together so her opinion about m*lec isn’t worth listening to”...
You know what, I DO want them back together. I will no longer be appeased by a mere m*lec breakup. I want Magnus to get involved with Camille again, so they can go around being their amoral immortal selves, and I get to see people freak out about how the show has ruined Magnus! And he’s OOC!! The writers are turning him into a villain!!! THEY’RE MAKING US HATE HIM!!! THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT HIM BECAUSE THEY PUT HIM IN A TOXIC RELATIONSHIP!!!1
I’ll never get it but it would be so beautiful.

Book!Alec only knew of Magnus’ past relations with Camille from word of mouth yet took this as enough evidence to slander Magnus’ character and become completely distrusting of him for two books (give or take).
Show!Alec saw Camille actually kiss Magnus when they were just getting started with their relationship but had the common sense to recognise that it was against Magnus’ will and gave him an opportunity near the end of the episode to explain himself before jumping to conclusions. Show!Alec also didn’t feel threatened or uncomfortable when Magnus relayed to him how he had struggled with turning Camille in to the Clave because of their past and encouraged Magnus to be open and honest with him about everything, including his past relationships with other people.
Jesus, take the wheel! This show is just too good. What did we do to deserve this masterpiece? :’)

Magnus Bane doesn't have a lot of friends, and he's not what people at Idris High would consider 'cool'. Recovering from a heartbreak and struggling with his anti-lgbt grandfather, he's trying to really focus on his acting hobby so he doesn't end up going back into the dark hole he had been on a few months earlier. Alec Lightwood, in the same year as Magnus, looks like a supermodel and comes from a very influent family of lawyers, which makes him a part of the popular gang in school. He lost his sight when he was 6, so he can't fully wrap his head around the fact that such a big part of his life in school is shaped by the way he looks; and it actually really annoys him sometimes. Alec's life is driven by rules and tradition, and he's okay with it, for the most part; however, he wants some independence, and while searching for it, he stumbles across Magnus, who's just as repulsed by other people's standards and expectations as him. They find themselves inevitably gravitating towards each other, but seeing is deceiving, and sometimes you need to look within to embrace what's right in front of you.
