A short comic based on a passage in Acts of John, an apocryphal christian writing from the second century CE. I really enjoy the way it's written as a first person account of the travels of Saint John, it's very lovely:
113 O thou who hast kept me until this hour for thyself and untouched by union with a woman: who when in my youth I desired to marry didst appear unto me and say to me: John I have need of thee: who didst prepare for me also a sickness of the body: who when for the third time I would marry didst forthwith prevent me, and then at the third hour of the day saidst unto me on the sea: John, if thou hadst not been mine, I would have suffered thee to marry: who for two years didst blind me, and grant me to mourn and entreat thee: who in the third year didst open the eyes of my mind and also grant me my visible eyes: who when I saw clearly didst ordain that it should be grievous to me to look upon a woman[...] who didst make my love of thee spotless: who didst make my joining unto thee perfect and unbroken: who didst give me undoubting faith in thee, who didst order and make clear my inclination toward thee[...]

Here Azandar decided to drag his cohort through the sights of Apocrypha. This big thing is a library where the most delicious and forbidden knowledge of Uncle Hermaeus is collected. And the old man really wants to go there.

Headcanons I personally really like whilst reading upon Eden and the family of Adam and Eve.
Both the Tree of Life and the Tree of knowledge are intertwined between one another. Both their branches are almost woven in together however they are very easy to distinguish due to their colors.
Eve has long and splintered red hair which was before all of the fibers that stuck to her when she was still just a part of Adam. Her eyes are more thin, having some Asian traits as well. Like imagine the redness of a bone, that's how much skin hair was all over her until she gradually lost some parts and grew out others.
For Adam, I think his physical appearance is quite a journey, first with being molded and put inside the vessel of the dirt I feel like he would have a lot of acne, of moles and freckles to represent all the peebles and dirt he had been made from. He does a darker shade of the fertile mud from the Fertile Cresent. His hair is far more smooth but wavy. His hair is also pretty long, somewhat lighter in other ends too due to the roots of herbs being mixed in.
Lilith does share more similarities to Adam, except for the eyes and the hair. Her eyes are green. They stayed as such due to the herbs she had been created from. She has short hair, mostly for personal preference, but also because

Cain has red hair as well, it's much darker compared to his mother, and his skin is like clay, low firing clay, although the sun tans him as the years go. He also has darker eyes. And he has been thought by Abel how to kill a lamb for food.
Abel has more strength out of the two which is why he hunts his food more and takes care of the cattle. He likes to carry a satchel of fruits that Cain often collected for him and Eve ever since he was young. He has a darker skin and takes a lot of traits from his father, except for the red hair. Although it is more curvy than wavy. His eyes are gray. (Alot of these are mostly headcanons that fit for symbolism of his death so like.... yeah...).
Seth has equal traits from both his parents. He has the brunette locks, a more olive skin and dark honey eyes. He also wears a more mature expression for most of the time. He somewhat likes and dislikes spending his time at The Cave of Treasures due to the corpse of his brother lingering there. He likes playing with stones or peebles. I do like to think Cain and Seth did meet st some point but the interaction became bitter when Seth noticed who he was.
Seth was mostly raised by his sisters rather than his parents.
Eve managed to live on until the day of The Deluge.
Lamech had learned slingshooting from the teachings of Seth.
Enoch liked to write a lot about the family, sadly most of it was lost to time.
Luluwa and Lilith met at some point, the angels Senoi and Sansenoi were there as well to protect her.
Adam oftened reminisced in his nightmares about his past deaths and close comings to death while surviving.
Aklia always wore layer upon layer, she used the skins of the animals to make a lot of clothes which became a small hobby of hers. Her favorite pastime was catching snakes, which her mother Eve didn't like it when she brought them inside the house.
Omg the angels braiding Eve's and Adam's hair.

Angel & Demon Headcanons.
Lucifer was once the angel of Love, bc while all other angels have a lot of responsibilities, none of the angels have been given the title of "Angel of love" Instead there is God who delivers love and is love... which actually would make the theory that "Lucifer was once the angel of Love" make more sense because he was the closest one to perfection, that being God, and no other love can compare to that of God. So no other love could compare to the Love of God, not even the angel said to be so. Yes I know Hanael/Anael is considered as the star of love, but that's actually in the Longfellow's work The Golden Legend. And while there is Mihr considered as an angel of friendship and love, he will be placed in Persian Lore.
-
ADDING ON onto the theory that Lucifer was once the angel of Love, it could also be used to explain Raphael's association with love too. At the beginning Lucifer was one of the chief angels, or at least powerful since he managed to instigate a third of the angels to fall, and after his fall there probably needed to be another angel that substituted his title and rank, which is why despite Rephael being considered as mostly a healer, he is also sometimes associated with other things like love and science.
For Raphael, I can't help but consider him as this geeky kind of angel that loves invetning things and screwing with the creation of physics, he is the sole reason why you need letters in math, he was probably present during the double slit experiment and thought "You know what would be a fun way to make >:)))"
On the other hand I think Raphael also loves his title as an(other) angel of Love. Considering his enemy is also the demon of lust Asmodeus, they are likely in a constant battle between whenever or not having kinks is good or bad.
Asmodeus is a yandere.
Lucifer(fallen Satan) has not only daddy issues but also mommy issues. Although it would be cool to see Mary trying to handle Lucifer on his own, seeing that she is the most purest being, just like Eve once was. Flashbacks to that tree in the garden?
The personality of Azrael is either this happy go lucky kind of guide trying to help people accept death as much as they can until they reach the gates, or this tired and cold like angel whom for some reason is like a calm wave that will not try to elevate nor demoralize your mood, only walk with you as you begin to accept death.
Either way one definite trait that Azrael will seem to have is this aura of calming down others, letting your soul get over all the fears of life and send you into a waking slumber, the one you needed ever since you where born into the world.
-
There is this double duality which I really like about demons and angels that doesn't get talked about a lot. That regarding the more ancient books or the Old Testament, Angels and Demons aren't always just always doing good or bad things. Angels, at least in the book of Tobias and wth Abraham's visit by the angels can be seen to lie or misguide the people to think they are humans. In the book of Job they can even go against God's choices saying that those humans[Job] aren't what god thinks. If we include the Apocrypha then Enoch is an easy reference that they can be tempted or that even the Lord does not trust them.
Another temptation that is also shown is with Harut and Marut, two angels that decided to reveal the name of God back at their wives and get punished because of that. Meanwhile there are demons like Asmodeus who recite verses from the book of Moses in the Testament of Solomon, and even follow it to an extent, they can pass through heaven and earth, they can even love and come to regret, as the nephilim and watchers[fallen angels] have come to ask Enoch to help them, as seen during the fight of the watchers when God tells his angels to supress the watchers and see just how their beloved children will get killed in front of their eyes. Freaking twisted i know.
There are also the Ginns, mostly seen and made like evil entities, though they can also be good. Anyways it shows that there is no single duality for them, in the end the angels, despite doing bad things for god, they do it for god who is good, meanwhile as much as demons try to do good things, they will always be making bad things, and it isnt because they reject god, thats partly the case, its that their intentions will always be bad no matter the actions they make.
I absolutely love the idea that the Divine Comedy did— no, not that— I mean the concept of God taking care of Eden waiting for humans to come back one day. I'm crying, and taking this as headcanon. Imma just...

The Infancy Gospel of Thomas
"When this boy, Jesus, was five years old, he was playing at the ford of a rushing stream; he was collecting the flowing water into ponds and made the water instantly pure. He did this with a single command. He then made soft clay and shaped it into twelve sparrows. He did this on the Sabbath day, and many other boys were playing with him.
But when a Jew saw what Jesus was doing while playing on the Sabbath day, he immediately went off and told Joseph, Jesus' father, 'See here, your boy is at the ford of a rushing stream and has taken mud and fashioned twelve birds with it, and so has violated the Sabbath.'
So Joseph went there, and as soon as he spotted him, he shouted, 'Why are you doing what's not lawful to do on the Sabbath?'
But Jesus simply clapped his hands and shouted to the sparrows, 'Be off, fly away, and remember me, you who are now alive!'
And the sparrows took off and went away chirping

!Baddie Alert!
I literally eat pray love Mary Mags. My favorite disciple/apostle if we're being frank! The Jesus narrative would feel a bit more complete if she had a greater role in the gospels. Good thing we have apocrypha! Especially since that whole "she was a prostitute" scandal (which, btw, what we're not gonna do is shame sex work). She deserves to exude power (and trendiness since, after all, she did wear the hair suit before it was cool).

What you analyzed is reminiscent of the Gnostics (especially the Ophites) who saw God as not the true Godhood but as "the Demiurge" (means creator in Greek) who is an oppressor to his creations, while Satan/the serpent is the liberator, and Eve made the right choice. In the original, Adam is presented as tempted by the corrupted Eve who brings misfortune to humanity (see also the Greek Pandora) and then he accuses her of dooming them all (telling God it's not my fault it's this woman you made for me that made me do it). Meanwhile, for the Gnostics, Eve (also called Zoe; Life) is the manifestation of true Godhood (Sophia; aka wisdom) in contrast to the Demiurge/God, and Adam -who unlike Eve is passive- acknowledges it. In surviving texts like the Apocryphon of John and Apocalypse of Adam, he says that Eve “taught me a word of knowledge of the eternal God.” Eve in two texts tells Adam “Adam! Become alive. Arise upon the earth.” and Adam says “It is you who has given me life.” and always acknowledges her as the one who has awakened him. Also, "The Hypostasis of the Archons" refers to the serpent as “The Teacher”.
Another anon also added this:
ooo idj if you know this but there is apocryphal theology on the serpent as the teacher of eve in defiance of the creator's forced ignorance to keep adam and later humans under his absolute control, though it was regarded as herecy and was persecuted
Oh wow this is fascinating! Thank you for this insight! This kind of retelling is really interesting to me. I love the idea of flipping Eve's sin around and it being necessary for the creation of man. Also this is relevant to my interests if you know I'm also obssessed with a certain skateboarding anime which has original sin as a theme.
(This is in reference to my meta about the relationship between the Harkers and Van Helsing which I went off on and compared them to Original Sin)
