Nine Inch Nails' Year Zero album being based around an imagined year 2022 is chillingly accurate. Post trump usa is a bigoted, hateful shithole that wants to murder it's own citizens if they don't fit the conservative definition of "normal".

Assassination classroom got banned in some schools in Florida and Wisconsin.
On the basis that it could make "students think it's OK to kill their teachers", Jennifer Pippin, chair of the Indian River County chapter of Moms for Liberty, removed it from the schools library. Her group is actually outright stating that this manga is somehow correlated to school shootings, and therefore should be banned.
I'm horrified. First of all because if you spend more than two seconds actually *reading* the manga, the point isn't at all to endorse gun violence, but it's a severe critique to the educational system in Japan. But most importantly, from now on what else is gonna be banned in the name of safety? What about some of the most important classics in literature, will they also be banned because of violent themes that may inspire kids to misbehave?
This is exactly the kind of shit that you can find in anti logic, the belief that fiction affects reality to a 1:1 basis, which leads to the suppression of art and by proxy people's voices. It's not protection, it's not prevention, it's fascism. Censorship will never solve school shootings, it won't solve anything at all, but it will make you ignorant and it will take away your voice and your freedom.
Fuck Jennifer Pippin, fuck "Moms for liberty", and fuck any piece of shit that shares their bullshit ideology.

Better Bones: CW List
Can't believe I have to make this disclaimer, but here we are
Better Bones is not a project that aims to fix canon by making the Clans wholesome and unproblematic. Though there can be fun and kindness in it and my philosophy is an optimistic one, It's not an escapist fantasy. It is a story about semi-realistic cats of human intelligence in a violent, war-obsessed theocratic dictatorship, and how they attempt to change it over the years.
Clan Culture is flawed, that is on purpose. Addressing and changing this is what the story is about.
I am very disappointed I have to state this because it should be obvious from my main post where I explicitly say that my goal is to "Address (Canon's) Problematic Elements." Not remove.
If you cannot handle themes or depictions of;
Physical and emotional abuse; Domestic, authoritative, and familial
Child abuse and inter-generational trauma
Somewhat graphic medical discussion, such as abortion, wound infection, and the use of leeches and maggots
The killing and processing of small animals into food, including tanning and butchery
Semi-realistic cat behaviors, specifically marking things with urine
Ableism; both externalized and internalized, Clan culture treats disabled cats poorly and this is something several characters struggle with
Xenophobia; to a violent degree, including stochastic terrorism, hate crime, and discrimination
^^^ read that one again. Consider that on this list twice.
Politics; Authoritarianism, fascism, and liberalism as an enemy, discussion of dog whistles and ideology
"Redemption arcs" of people who did bad things
Cosmic horror and supernatural curses
Graphic violence, including against innocent bystanders, through assault, poisoning, drowning, falling, and even being eaten alive by large fish and demigods.
Animal abuse; Human beings harming cats on purpose and Clan cats generally being terrified of all humans, even kind and loving ones
Clan cats, both villainous and culturally mislead, glorifying these things in-universe, not immediately staring at the camera and breaking character to tell you "This Is A Bad Thing!"
Then Better Bones may not be for you. I would at minimum rate this project as PG-13, but PG-16 would be a more accurate bet.
I have sympathy for you if these are not topics you can handle. My project tackles very upsetting real-world issues and not everyone is looking for something challenging; that's understandable and there's no fault in that. I try to tag appropriately but can't promise to catch everything, so please keep yourself safe.
There are other, softer projects out there run by cool people if this is not for you, and you can add #Better Bones AU to your tag filters and this project will not show up!
But, I'm not responsible for your comfort with my art. If you followed me under the assumption that BB is "Warriors without any ableism/xenophobia/violence" you were mistaken. If you don't have the maturity to act responsibly when something upsets you, or DO have the malice to read a disabled person's work with the most bad faith interpretations you can muster, LEAVE.

I am anti-Fascism.
I live in the country that allowed a fascist to rise to power and kill millions. After this Germany made sure to teach every child what fascism looks like (and what dead bodies of Jews, political opponents and gay people piled up in concentration camps) look like, so this never happens again.
Hitler rose to power because he was able to inspire the masses. And people fell for his lies and hate speech. Additionally, people didn't bother or dare to stand up to his shit - or because their friends/families where fascists and they didn't want to step on their toes.
If I stumble into a blog that supports fascism (by spreading pro-MAGA, pro-Trump, pro-racism, anti-LGBTQ+, or anti-democracy stuff) I will block that blog.
I don't want my art to be reblogged in between their pro-fascism shit.

So I started rewatching Kill La Kill and I just wanna gush over the art direction. It's so fucking cool. It constantly knows what it's doing! It's Bold, it's Extra, unashamedly so! Keep up or drop out!
Tumblr media
The art style and animation style are so snappy and full of personality (that's just that good TRIGGER shit!)
Tumblr media
Yes! You can bend reality to have the huge character that's the chief of discipline of the school take up the entire room! Right after interrupting a lecture about the rise of fascism in Germany in 1933! Subtlety is for the weak!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So many shots are clearly well thought about in terms of composition, colors, iconism, and it's pretty consistent not just for the first episodes/a few trailer-moments but when the story needs to be intense or serious- The planning of all that must have been crazy, imagine storyboarding this madness
Tumblr media
The camera movements during some action scenes?? insane
They used a BUNCH of 3D cgi models and you wouldn't even see it because they're worked into the art style and used very smartly, notably in the heavy action shots with the aforementionned insane camera movements (watch that gif closely! the characters, the desks, the background! I don't think it would have been possible to do all that fully hand drawn! even if only for a time/budget reason) I fucking love that! It came out in 2013 and it's so clean!!
Ah, I just like it a lot when a production is unique and carefully thought about. Anime is really fucking cool.

before anyone gets mad that i didnt like poor things and barbie, no one was more disappointed about this fact than i was. greta gerwig's little women made me sob like a baby, and i'm not someone who cries often, period. and every single one of yorgos's films that he's made up until now has been excellent to me. and yet both were solidly mediocre, and incredibly shallow and even regressive in their surface level conversations about patriarchy and female liberation. poor things was definitely more avant garde than barbie, but they both felt like shallow products of a capitalist hollywood mandate rather than a work of art making any kind of meaningful statement about the world. and i don't think greta is some kind of grand auteur, but i thought lady bird was charming and funny and i thought her little women was compelling and poignant. obviously there's only so much room for individuality or creativity in a feature length toy commercial, but some of the dialogue in that film was downright embarrassing. and yorgos's body of work thus far has been unique and distinguished by his singular stylistic vision. while some of his films are funnier than others, they are all deeply uncomfortable and visceral. dogtooth especially does not shy away from the uncomfortable truths regarding the subject of its critique, and it is genuinely insightful insofar as it comments on the nature of the family, language, and fascism. but even his more recent films, like the favourite, killing of a sacred deer, or the lobster feel meaningful without compromising their sense of style and perpetual discomfort. i didn't feel my stomach churn while watching poor things. the shock value felt external rather than internal. i felt like i was watching an "art film" for corporate execs, sufficiently raunchy and violent to be intriguing, but also unobjectionably hollow at its core. that said, both films had gorgeous aesthetics. great gowns beautiful gowns. it was clear that their bigger budgets allowed them to go all out with the costume and set design, which was at least pleasing to the senses even if both films disappointed artistically and intellectually. but i'd rather watch a cheap looking film with meaningful themes (such as dogtooth!) than a beautiful hollywood spectacle with nothing to say. oh and oppie being mid goes without mentioning because i've never actually seen a film of christopher nolan's that i thought merited any sort of consideration. he's either dumb or believes everyone in the world is dumb, because he makes movies for stupid people. it's no wonder that greta and yorgos felt the need to stoop to his level to win an oscar, considering the trends in hollywood cinema. but whatever.

Ikuhara: [...]I think I made it thinking "this is 'hobby'". Wanting diecast car models, wanting Chogokin toys, wanting a Lamborghini Countach, wanting a Ferrari. Or in the end, to want "the world", these are all "hobby". In the minds of boys who want "hobby", even girls don't exist as more than a "hobby". But it feels very sad to put away every behavior that tries to realize a dream under the word "hobby"! (laugh) For example, I think the things that Steve Jobs say are also basically "hobby". The desire to rule the world of personal computers using your own sense of aesthetics, as a story that's very cool and full of romance, but if you examine it more carefully you'll find it's the "hobby" world. He wants toys that rule the world.
Kotani: The "hobby" world is like, the pleasure of possession.
Ikuhara: As a man, I try to avoid realizing when what I'm doing is "hobby" (laugh), and just try to advertise how hard I work, probably… The things I want are no different from Chogokin and Countachs. So when I talk about how I struggle and how I labor, and then a girl just instantly says "in the end, you just want toys" that really hurts (laugh). [...] Conversely, I feel like girls don't really have "hobby". For example, boys might want Sailor Moon dolls too, but in that case it's only because they want to to collect them. That's "hobby". But girls think about how to play with the doll, combing the hair or changing clothes and so on. Psychological projection.
Kotani: It becomes an action, a process.
--This excerpt is from Disturbing, Traversing, Borderless, Shaking Sexuality: The Place where Revolutionary Girl Utena was Born, graciously hosted on Empty Movement and translated by Youzicha!
I know that a couple of Thrawn fans from the EU era have spoken about how they do not like that Thrawn was turned into a looter in the new canon-- he not only analyzes art but participates in colonial theft by stealing art from occupied lands and people-- but I like it. I think it's an extremely interesting thing to explore. i think that possession as an expression of masculinity is inextricably tied to the machismo of fascism. I keep saying machismo. What do I mean by that? Why this specific word? I'm borrowing from Umberto Eco again, because his essay on the matter is so succinct. He says as such:
Since both permanent war and heroism are difficult games to play, the Ur-Fascist transfers his will to power to sexual matters. This is the origin of machismo (which implies both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality). Since even sex is a difficult game to play, the Ur-Fascist hero tends to play with weapons — doing so becomes an ersatz phallic exercise.
This is his art and it's also his status as a Grand Admiral with an Imperial Star Destroyer, with his pet TIE Defender Project, even with people-- his proteges. The act of possession in and of itself is a status symbol. Thrawn knows art so if he Owns A Lot Of Art it makes him an Authority On Art. He gets to be the arbiter of what is and is not art; carefully saving said art from violence. It 'justifies' the conquest while also still being a display of military potency. It's also a means to set himself above his philistine, xenophobic peers. (-@shipofthesis)
It creates rigid categories to sort things into. "These are Good Objects, these are Good Hobbies". Which means that there is an opposite, ontological Bad Object and Bad Hobby. The art worth saving (the things personally interesting/compelling/relevant to Thrawn) and conversely the art not worth saving-- and by proxy, their creators not worth saving, and can be colonized and killed without disrupting Thrawn's prerogatives. By removing the art from its culture of origin he becomes the de facto authority on it. No one's gonna go and ask the original creators. (-@shipofthesis) His interpretation of it-- and how that's useful for him-- becomes the canon. It's possession, it's entitlement, it's "hobby". His categorical need to be above everything makes even events and cultural histories (such as The Clone Wars) he had a personal involvement in seem material and detached.
"Mark Ones," [Rossi] murmured. Her voice carries the mix of tension and interest that indicates sudden understanding. Her hand makes a small movement toward her datapad, then stops. "Alright, I'll meet you halfway. We're due back at Ansion in three months. You can have until then to play with your toys." -Thrawn (2017)

I don't tend to follow people because I'm mentally ill (BPD is not happy if I miss my partner's posts and everything is buried by the photosensitivity blog since I follow it to make sure all tags are on outreach posts). finish watching The Boy and the Heron, or the more accurate name: What Life Do You Want to Live.
plot free, but I felt that the point of this film was not in the plot at all. This is not a fairy tale like Hayao Miyazaki's previous works, but a song of war, change, and choice.
In the world of the tower, all the birds are participants of the war(WW2). Parrots are believers in fascism and imperialism, pelicans are the ones who Join wars just for staying alive. The words of the Pelican before his death explain this: "We have nothing to eat, the fish are in the sea but we can't catch them, we try to fly high, but we can't get off the island anyway, in this world, we either starve to death or risk being killed by fire to eat those souls. We don't really have a choice."
The whole tower fell from sky during Japan's Meiji Restoration era, it represents Western culture and Western values, and everything in this tower is Western style. Heron is a propagator of the Western world, he is not a black and white role, and his plot also shows that Western values are not all enemy.
The stone represents modern industry, so the militaristic metaphor of "iron and blood" is clearly reflected in the film. In the world of tower, those who rule the world use these stones to build a world, but the tower is so fragile that someone has to stabilize it every day.
If I keep talking about this I might actually reveal the plot, I'll shut up here also because there are some things I haven't figured out yet. I love this movie so much I don't even know where to start. every thing, every thing about this art work is amazing.

On January 30th 1938, one of the bombs dropped by the fascist aviation fell on Sant Felip Neri in Barcelona (Catalonia's capital city). This historical building was being used as a home for refugee children.
The Spanish fascist army was allied with Mussolini's Italy and Hitler's Germany, both of which bombed the Iberian population and used the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) as a testing ground for never-seen-before cruel attacks on the civil population that they later used in the Second World War (1939-1945). They bombed homes, schools, markets and everything. They bombed cities and also villages with no strategic value.
The Oratorian priests who lived in the Sant Felip Neri convent had left at the beginning of the war. Then, the Government of Catalonia took care the empty building. The church was used for safekeeping valuable art and the convent was used for housing refugee children from areas of Spain which were already under Fascist occupation. Most of these children were from Alcalá de Henares (near Madrid), and there was also children from Barcelona whose parents had died or were at the frontline or too poor to afford food, so here there were given a loaf of bread and some condensed milk.
On January 1938, Barcelona was bombed by the Italian fascist aviation on the 1st, 7th, 11th, 15th, 19th, 20th, 25th, and 30th, which killed about 600 people.
That 30th was a Sunday. The bomb alarms went off in the morning, when all the children were having breakfast. The children and the neighbours ran to Sant Felip Neri's basement, which was used as a bomb shelter, but the basement's ceiling couldn't resist the bombs and it fell on them. More neighbours quickly ran to help rescue the children and soon the firefighters came too, but in the middle of this operation the fascist aviation bombed the same location again.
The official documents say that, on that January 30th 1938, the bombs killed 216 people and injured 125. 42 people died in that basement, out of which 30 were children. If you visit Sant Felip Neri's square nowadays, you can still see the holes in the façade wall left by the shrapnel.
When the fascists won the war, they twisted history to point at their enemies. In front of the visible scars of that bombing and the neighbours' memories, Franco's regime said that those marks on the wall were not the result of bombing. Instead, they said that they were left by an antifascist firing squad who shot the convent's priests. This explanation can't make sense because those don't look at all like bullet marks, and some of them are way too far up or down (so either there were priests who were over 2 meters tall or this was the firing squad with the worst aim in history). But the dictatorship's official history never cared about the facts and proof.
The first picture in this post is a photo of the refugee children who lived in Sant Felip Neri. The second photo is the aftermath.
Feixisme i guerra, mai més. / Fascism and war, never again.
Our heart goes to the Ukrainian and Tigrinya people living this horror in the present.

Just wanted to point out that the Empire is not real. They're cartoon bad guys from a fantasy story. No one has ever been harmed by the Empire and no one ever will. It's perfectly fine to root for the Empire, cosplay as them, draw fanart of them, make memes about how Vader did nothing wrong, whatever.
It is as harmless as being a fan of Cobra Commander, Skeletor, or Elmer fucking Fudd. And no one on the monsterfucker website has room to talk about what is or isn't acceptable in your fucking daydreams, fanfics, sexual fantasies, video game play-throughs, or anything else.
I don't care that they massacred the Jedi. I don't care that they blew up Alderaan. There is no such place as Alderaan. There is no such thing as a Jedi. Those younglings Anakin killed? They were fictious characters played by child actors who have grown up, perfectly fine.
Tumblr media
If it bothers you to see people praising the Empire, that is on you. You have to take responsibility for curating your fandom experience. Avoid people who are Empire fans. Don't go into the tags of Imperial characters. It is fine to have boundaries and to avoid content that makes you uncomfortable, but no one is immoral or causing harm by making that content. The world has very real problems, but I assure you they were not caused by people watching Star Wars movies.
While I'm at it, George Lucas is under no obligation to "make it clear" that the Empire are the bad guys or to depict them even more negatively than they already are. Part of telling a good adventure story is having strong villains to challenge the heroes and so it behooves storytellers to have villains who are competent, intimidating, and even stylish.
Lucas is not causing any harm or endorsing fascism by giving Darth Vader a cool look, a cool voice, or making him a dominating opponent for Luke Skywalker. If it bothers you to see villains depicted with redeeming qualities or as skilled warriors, that is on you, you will have to either avoid this sort of media or get comfortable with it. Art cannot and should not change to accommodate your unreasonable insistence that it double as political propaganda.
