Reasons why Jon Archivist is truly a character of all time:
Had the police called on him several times when he was a young child
Keeps his rib and the ashes of the season one antagonist next to his stationary drawer
Promised he wouldn’t get lost in tunnels and then immediately got lost in aforementioned tunnels
Has no clue what a joke is
Learned how remarkably easy it is to buy an ax in central London
Had to have two separate interventions
Told people his place of employment before traumatising them for life
The first character he ever said ‘I love you’ to is a cat
Allegedly participated in amdram
Watches documentaries and collects some kind of weird shit (my headcanon is Soviet Union postcards) when he’s not being a paranoid mess
Canonically looks like he hasn’t slept in weeks
Knows nothing about library science
Fell head over heels for a man that he hated until he learned he lied on his resumé
Has been referred to as Jesus or Jesus-adjacent at least twice
Asexual icon
Knows what a meme is and said “LOL” in the first episode
Rode on a merry-go-round sometime during his university days because he was in a weird place emotionally
Died for our Jonathan Sins
Is probably a computer now playing minesweeper with his boyfriend and evil 200+ year old boss

ALISTAIR ASH - Fantasy High (Dimension 20)
Tumblr media
PROPAGANDA:
hes a silly little boy. his most iconic line (chosen by me) is "my problem with lies is that i forget that the other person has a mind and feelings and keeps existing after i've lied to them". he got involved in an mlm scheme, got betrayed, backstabbed, had his skull eaten, died twice (once in hell), came back to life wrong, is STILL involved in the mlm scheme against his own wishes, ran away from hell, was late to a big boss battle because he was busy buying sandwiches, scammed multiple people, and really has been dropkicked by canon and swung around into walls like the worlds most pathetic pinata (not necessarily in that order). hes my favourite character of all time i am his #1 fan and i need more people to know he exists because he got so fucking doomed i actually cant believe hes not more of a blorbo to people. 12 works on ao3 total for him and i need there to be more

The Absolute Atrocious Audacity... of Anipoke's version of the Hoenn Battle Frontier
The Battle Frontier was arguably the first time in a mainline game where we got introduced to Battle Facility Characters. For a while, we had the titular Battle Tower, but for the first time, we had a unique boss to get to.
Much alike to Gym Leaders, they give out "badges" to commemorate your victory; Hoenn's being Silver and Gold Symbols.
However, for the time, many casual players that didn't focus on Competitive Training missed out on these special characters almost entirely. At the very least, they'd see them in Player's Guides along with their Silver and Gold Pokemon Teams.
But especially during that time, most, if not all, knowledge of these characters came from the botched version of them in the Ash Ketchum Anime.
I say botched because it's an honest to goodness fact that man the writers of the anime made some wild decisions.
This will be focusing mostly on Anabel of course, but I've been doing some snooping around the original Battle Frontier and Emerald's in-game text.
I'll go over why Brandon was never supposed to be the "leader" of the Hoenn Frontier, why Anabel was wrongly mistaken as psychic, why the Battle Tower was the real head of the battle frontier, and etc.
1.Who is the leader of the Frontier Brains?
Short answer, no one as far as we know. Long answer is that there are a lot of NPCs that, while making note of all the unique facilities, the Battle Tower is ALWAYS a stand out amongst them all.
When asking a guide about the Battle Tower, you get this dialogue:
"... It is the gigantic tower considered to be the BATTLE FRONTIER's symbol."
A child right outside the Battle Tower itself claims:
"Wow! It's huge! The Battle Tower feels special. It's different from the others."
Also to note that when looking for the Exchange Service and Rankings Building, they will be pointed over as "Near the Battle Tower" .... Which also points to how important the Battle Tower is to the Frontier as a whole.
It's good to note that no other battle facility gets this kind of fanfare. The Tower is uniquely special in its iconography.
... Seeing how both the Adventures Manga and Ihara's Manga puts Anabel as the symbolic 'final boss' of the frontier... It's safe to say that she's at least part of the very foundation and centralized symbol of the Hoenn Battle Frontier.
2.Why was Brandon the leader in the anime?
Chauvinism Brandon is often referred to as Chief... By only his Pyramid employees, and mostly in the vein of his whole gimmick of the Pyramid being an Indiana Jones type of adventure. So Brandon is the Chief of the expedition team that you meet inside the facility itself.
Brandon is never pointed out as anything particularly special or more important than the other facility heads.
He's probably a dev favorite, or for some reason, Anabel wasn't "leader" material for the anime. You know, the brain of the Frontier's central icon and one who became a head Chief/Boss within Interpol many years later.
3.Why was Anabel written to have Psychic Powers?
Oh you're not going to believe this. But I found that there IS an NPC at the Battle Frontier that is Psychic and can read a Pokemon's mind.
AND IT WAS NEVER ANABEL.
There is a little girl that is often cited to appear a lot at Spencer's Battle Palace. Here's her dialogue:
"Ehehe! I can tell what POKÈMON are thinking! Please! Can I see your POKÈMON?" + "That's silly! An EGG is asleep! I can't talk to it!"
Supplementary NPC dialogue:
"How charming! That little lady claims she can understand POKÈMON!" Beyond this, Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald has an unfortunate Psychic Trainer generic NPC that looks like this:
Tumblr media
So the anime writers might have put two and two together that someone who is mysterious and has purple hair MUST be a Psychic type specialist.
Otherwise, the only dialogue in relation to Anabel has absolutely zero implications that she is or was ever psychic to begin with. Which takes me to...
4.Did they change Anabel's personality?
YES.
AND IT'S BAD.
First of all, Lucy got it so much worse. NPCs describe her as a "Scary trainer," with a particular incident causing an NPC to retell their bad encounter with her:
"A while back, I met this older girl at the BATTLE PIKE. She had these eyes that were scary in a real ornery way. She got all furious: "Will you quit eating!" Then she whaled on me. It was a hair-raising kind of scary experience, sure enough."
Another NPC, one who deals in rumors, also titles her as the "Scary Trainer of the Battle Pike."
And she is scary! She doesn't hold back! She tells you firmly that she fought her way to her title, and she IS SUPER PISSED that some kid like you just beat her, telling you to just leave her sight already.
Ahem. IN THE ANIME, Lucy's anime counterpart is kinder and friendlier, probably because kids are watching. But all of her sharp edge is just kinda gone. What's worse, she is so commonly known for a gag in which she was the first woman to "reciprocate" Brock's affections.
For a gag. Because she just liked his close eyes look, as her anime counterpart collects squinty eyed Pokemon like Cyndaquil and Skitty.
Also, Brock is 15. Lucy is stated to be an adult woman in Masters, plus she's pretty tall. The anime is known to de-age characters sometimes but... Echk.
Onto Anabel... Oh sweet Anabel-- Just like Lucy, Anabel's edge was dulled into just being some generic sweet girl for her counterpart. As we know in the games, Anabel is not shy to telling you just how she feels about you; she is not impressed by the rumors she has heard of you, and even when you lose to her in the first battle, she will straight up call it 'disappointing.' She expected nothing and was still disappointed.
Here's some NPC dialogue involving Anabel:
Ace Trainer: "Man! Oh man! I've never lost once before! But I got wiped out with no saving grace at all! And then I'm told I don't have any talent?! Man!" NPC next to Ace Trainer: "This guy ran into a horribly tough TRAINER while he was on the BATTLE TOWER challenge. Now look at him... You need to be cautious if you ever decide to go to the BATTLE TOWER."
Also, Anabel apparently is said that when she's using a fucking Snorlax, Alakazam, and Entei on you, she's trying to "measure up her opponent." When she's serious, she uses Raikou, Snorlax, and Latios.
SHE'S USING AN ENTEI TO MEASURE YOU UP BEFORE BRINGING OUT BIGGER GUNS???
... Anabel in the anime was a joke. Her counterpart was made a glorified psychic type gym leader with none of the very sharp personality she had before. Perhaps kids would have hated a girl who shot down Ash the moment he stepped into her tower. Honestly she could have given him the same treatment Nanu did MAAAAANY seasons later.
But no. Had to be sweet and kind. And had to have a Metagross that dies to a Tauros using Take Down and she also was given an Espeon to replace Snorlax? An Espeon which was just "girly version of Ash's Pikachu" because it had Zap Cannon, Iron Tail, and Quick Attack WHICH IS SUCH A BAD MOVEPOOL FOR ESPEON GOOD LORD.
And of course, the elephant in the room that this version of Anabel's only fucking thing that people remember is that she had a crush on Ash. Why? Because May was being rewritten to have a thing with Drew so Ash needed a "romance"(?) for some reason. Not like it even went anywhere or was ever needed? They had no romantic interactions and it was basically a last minute reveal that she gained feelings for him just out of nowhere. Ultimately, Anabel never came back, and this entire point was practically retconned or erased from existence as OTHER girls later down the line would fill the "romantic undertones" role for the season/series, each one making the former fucking meaningless.
Plus, Anabel and Lucy in Emerald are both referred to as "Older Girls", possibly a localization of "Oneesan", with Anabel being a bit taller than May and Brendan in Emerald, so her original appearance was most likely at the very least a teenager older than the protags? Not that it's TOO bad echk but... CHRIST. WHAT WAS THE POINT? WHY???
The only point for Lucy and Anabel to have pointless crushes and character changes to be appealing and sweet and kind is because "Boys only like girls who are cute and like them and aren't combative."
let's be fucking REAL HERE THIS IS ALSO WHY ANABEL WASN'T THE LEADER OF THE BRAINS and she never kept her original pokemon and ARGH. THAT ISN'T ANABEL THAT'S JUST A SKIN WALKER.
salt over im so angry good lord. People thought this was Anabel for YEARS. Can you believe it??
Whew this was a long one.
5.Why was the Hoenn Battle Frontier in Kanto?
Firered and Leafgreen promotion :'y Had to be made a Kanto thing to "mix the elements" of FRGL and Emerald. This was hilariously walked back on when Ash revisited the Frontier in Journeys... Now exactly in Hoenn and appearing exactly as it did in the games with none of the frontier brains actually appearing.
You can tell they totally have no regrets about doing it the other way. :))))
6.Why did Anipoke do so many changes?
Not out of malicious intent.
The pokemon anime was always primarily made for kids. It's going to have cheerful adventures, and I can see why perhaps Lucy shouldn't be a scary woman on screen or why an adult like Brandon would be easier to see as the "big leader" of the brains due to being an older man.
Lots of decisions were made with kids in mind... Anabel's competitive and strategic nature would never have been as showy as "heehoo Brandon has THREE LEGENDARIES that means he's the strongest!"
Due to mostly boys watching Pokemon.... Girls got a really bad hand. Girls were apparently written to be changed with each new game series and are probably most remembered by being love interests. This is why no one talks about Greta-- She didn't have a romance. She wasn't tugging at the growing mind's "maybe girls aren't so icky" brain cells, idk.
And frankly, the Battle Frontier would just be boring otherwise, I guess. It's very much an older kid/adult set of facilities for advanced players, and Ash Ketchum is not an advanced player.
He is the representation of the little casual kid who believes in the power of friendship. He's not going to use competitively viable Pokemon he's going to use his iconic starters that sometimes don't evolve because they're cute and have a lot of character as their smaller forms. He's not going to climb a tower of high level trainers nor understand what EVs and IVs are. Hell he usually loses championships because he needs to be moved to the next region to start anew all over again.
So... They wrote the Battle Frontier as just. A glorified Kanto Gym Challenge, as they have done. They looked at the characters and their Pokemon and wrote alternate versions of them all to fit a series that is very kid oriented.
Things needed to make sense for kids. Older adult guys are the leaders, girls get crushes on boys, and Pokemon isn't about competitive play but the power of friendship to overcome all odds.
And unfortunately, because so many players were young and didn't get competitive battling, that was the only thing Anabel and the Frontier Brains were known for. Not their original games; but the heavily revised versions made because they needed to fit a children's TV show.

Godefroy Investigation Part 2: Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff
Let's look at the actual facts regarding Godefroy the Grafted.
We find him in the Golden Lineage Evergaol on the Altus Plateau.
He took part in the First Defense of Leyndell
He was captured by Ancient Dragon Knight Kristoff.
He carries the Godfrey Icon Talisman.
He is an exact duplicate of Godrick.
That's all we know. Literally, that's it. So, I'm gonna investigate these
Evergaols are pretty self-explanatory, and I'll deal with the First Defense when I get to Godrick, so first I'll start with Kristoff. Who was he?
Well, he was a Leyndell Knight. Really, that's it. Why was he called "Ancient Dragon Knight," then? It's likely that the order changed names at some point after he was interred as Spirit Ash.
This is also suggested by the Dragon-Cult Prayerbook, which Brother Corhyn calls a heresy. The Gravel-Stone Seal has the rather dubious line:
The worship of the ancient dragons does not conflict with belief in the Erdtree. After all, this seal, and lightning itself, are both imbued with gold.
Note for later: Things that have to be insisted this strongly are probably what someone wants you to believe rather than what is actually true.
Now, Kristoff's actual description is the only text mention of Godefroy in the game:
Spirit of Kristoff, an honorable knight of Leyndell who was also a devout worshipper of the ancient dragons. His skills strike down foes with thunderbolts, the dragons' weapon of choice. After the First Defense of Leyndell, Kristoff earned the hero's honor of Erdtree Burial for the feat of capturing Godefroy the Grafted.
Said hero's burial was in the Sainted Hero's Grave, so yeah this was a pretty big fucking deal. Going with my theory that Godefroy was memory holed, it's pretty weird that the man who captured him was given a sainted burial and the whole grave was renamed* in his honor.
He's guarded by an Ancient Hero of Zamor, who shows up as a recurring boss and a basic enemy, once in the Mountaintops of the Giants. The description of their equipment says:
These long-lived warriors, clad in biting, freezing winds, are said to have been the mortal enemies of the Fire Giants since time immemorial.
There are two others in the game, but the one that I think is important is the one on the Weeping Peninsula, trapped in his own Evergaol. That one drops Radagon's Scarseal, which states:
These seals represent the lifelong duty of those chosen by the gods.
So they're long-lived, and have a lifetime duty. Seems like an ideal tomb guardian, but that in and of itself doesn't tell us much. However, the fact one of them is found so far from home, in an area controlled by Godrick, and carrying an item sacred to Radagon (and thus the Golden Order as a whole), suggests that this might be a prisoner of war from the First Defense. So at least the losing side also took...uh...this guy!
It also suggests that the sainted hero was interred before the Zamori retreated to their Mountain and were still cooperating with the Golden Order. The one in the Sainted Hero's Grave might have even thought they were acting on Radagon's orders. To me, this indicates an attempt to maintain an illusion of normalcy in the early days of the Shattering. Most people didn't even realize something had gone horribly wrong yet.
It's likely that Kristoff's heroic actions were used as a means of legitimizing the Dragon Cult. They were tolerated before the First Defense, but afterwards, they were held up as heroes. Whoever was controlling Leyndell at the time (likely Morgott) must have desperately needed a PR win. Yet this victory was erased from history, at least the specifics were. There's no mention of who actually took part in the First Defense, unlike the Second, where Margit the Fell Omen (aka Morgott the Veiled King) is held up as the hero.
To me, that means information about who actually instigated the war must have come out later. The war went from a victory to a great shame, so the deeds of Kristoff were stricken from official records.
*(note: It seems that the Hero's Graves are fairly old and the statues that mark them show signs of defacement, so it's likely they were appropriated from a previous culture).

Hi chaos what are some of your favourite Eiji moments (from the anime or the manga, Eiji is awesome either way)?
EIJI MY BELOVED OMG
In approximately chronological order, just a very few top picks:
One of my top Eiji moments is in episode 5 when he fucking steals a cop car for the boy he met like a month ago??? And most of that time was spent with said boy being in prison. But Eiji, ride or die boyfriend that he is, is like "yeah he's worth a felony or three" right off the bat.
Episode 11, the way Eiji reacts to Ash telling him his backstory in his own words. I feel like this is a really important moment for both of them because up until now, Eiji knew a lot about Ash, but Ash hadn't chosen to tell it to Eiji. So here, this moment when Ash can tell Eiji in his own words and gauge his reaction is so so vital to the course of their relationship. And Eiji just ... "You're hurt. Really hurt. I can tell." Also in the manga version of that scene, after Ash's, "It doesn't have to be forever. Even if it's just for now," Eiji responds, "Forever."
Honestly episode 11 has so much of Eiji's caring moments, but we also get amazing shit like the classic AshEiji banter and them flipping each other off (in the manga equivalent). Iconic.
The "eat your own weiner -- or is it too small?" scene (manga exclusive, unfortunately) and uhhhh all of his other snarky comments. We love a boy who can banter.
Episode 20 has some more of my favorite Eiji moments:
"Don't apologize. That's for me to do. Let's go, boss."
THE SOUP SCENE. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA--
The fact that Eiji brought THREE gangs together (Ash's, Cain's, and Sing's) in order to save Ash form Golzine??? Like. Eiji literally led three gangs at once for a while and united them under one cause. Holy SHIT y'all.
Anyone IRL who complains about Eiji missing Golzine in episode 20 has probably never shot a gun, much less at a real person, and much much less with someone they love being that close to the target. I can understand Sing complaining about it, since he grew up around guns and admires Eiji, but in general, I think Eiji did pretty well, all things considered???
When Ash says "I'll lead them away" and Eiji thinks about it for about a quarter of a second before fucking shouldering Ash out of the way and telling Cain to take care of him so that Eiji can lead Golzine's men away instead. Ash's panic in this scene gets to me so badly -- I can only imagine what Eiji would be feeling in that moment. Bones asks "Where are you going?" and Eiji responds "I don't know!" like his only fucking thought is how he can use what abilities he has to save Ash. Holy shit.
I'm crying I love Eiji so much y'all. Oh my god. There are so many more good Eiji moments so feel free to reblog with your favorites too -- these were just a few off the top of my head. Sorry if I got episode numbers or quotes wrong, these are all just from memory lol

from duncan's newsletter:
(he's actually critical of ED?? I didn't know he was allowed)
How to get Emmerdale back to its best
I love Emmerdale. Its gorgeous and unique setting, its array of fabulous characters and gripping storylines over the years, and its ability to tackle serious storylines head on, and break format creatively, often set it apart from the crowd.
Over the last few years, the soap has dominated awards ceremonies, winning rightful acclaim for Meena Jutla’s (Paige Sandhu) reign of camp terror, Paddy Kirk’s (Dominic Brunt) depression and suicide attempt, and Marlon Dingle’s (Mark Charnock) sensitively handled stroke storyline.
And Faith Dingle’s (Sally Dexter) death scenes were undoubtedly the highlight of the anniversary month, bringing far more to the table than flying caravans and cows on the loose.
Recent castings have been spot on too – William Ash is right at home as the complex Caleb Miligan, and Louise Jameson is unsurprisingly a revelation.
Being able to secure returns for the iconic Kim Tate (Claire King) and Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) can also be chalked into outgoing boss Jane Hudson’s legacy.
After five years, she has stepped down, having achieved a great deal on the show.
Wanting to spend more time with her family, Jane is looking forward to a well earned rest – running one of the UK’s top shows is a more difficult job than people give credit for.
Soap bosses are held to such a high degree of scrutiny and standard, and if there is anything fans are not happy with, boy they let them know!
Listing the above paints an overall solid picture of Emmerdale and, despite dramatic reports, the show is far from being in crisis.
However, the recent resurgence of EastEnders has helped identify how refreshing shows can put them right back on the map.
There are many things Emmerdale needs to improve on – things have become far less character led, with an over-reliance on stunts and, despite my love for the clan, the Dingles.
The often ignored older generation, lack of fresh blood who aren’t connected to existing villagers, and some storylines that are starting to feel a bit of a strain are some of the factors that it is now a good time to address.
A new pair of hands and perspective on the steering wheel will bring new ideas to the table – there’s a reason why soaps benefit a lot from regular producer changes.
We all have different thoughts when it comes to our ideal soap. I have struggled with some aspects of the show for a number of months now, and have some thoughts on what could give Emmerdale its mojo back.
The community feel
The Man Club is evidence that Emmerdale still knows how to integrate the cast in a community way, but the show really lacks the warm feeling of community that it has previously been known for.
Character groups feel very separate – the Andersons are packed with potential but are generally isolated aside from Charles leading a wedding or funeral, for example.
Many characters have deep connections and pasts with each other but at the moment, much of everything is storyline led, with a definite beginning, middle and end.
A return to the focus on character, and the village itself, will make the storylines feel less plot, and more organic.
New blood
There have been some solid castings over Jane’s tenure, but very few who join the show unrelated to existing villagers.
Many of the links have been a bit contrived – Nicola’s attacker Naomi really didn’t have to be the same character as Charles’ daughter – and introductions such as Chloe and Tom have so far felt unable to hit the mark, with explorations into the connections themselves feeling very light.
Chloe rarely interacts with Sarah anymore, while Tom’s tensions with Jimmy and Chas were resolved extremely quickly.
Bringing in some fresh new faces or even a new family could buck this trend and inject some additional new life that doesn’t have to be an add-on to an existing story.
A big name casting a la Amanda Donohoe leading the Wyldes would also bring some solid attention and buzz.
Bring back Kim Tate’s edge
This is an ongoing bugbear with me – I long dreamed of seeing superbitch Kim Tate stalking the village and lording over Home Farm once more, so when I got my wish, I was delighted.
Her return was camper than a tent shop, and great fun but unsustainable, so it was understandable that Emmerdale had to tone her down to keep her around.
Kim was still mean but started to take on some deeper dimensions. Having a grandma instinct reminded us of her heart, and her friendships with Mary and Lydia are great.
But, over the last year, Kim has completely lost that edge that makes her Kim.
There is absolutely no way that Harriet and Caleb would escape her wrath like they have done.
Crossing Kim to such an extent would doom you to some hardcore revenge, but Kim seems to have just rolled over and taken the hits.
Let’s get her back to the middle ground. Keep the layers – but re-introduce her harder side too.
A leopard can only change its spots so much – Kim will always, and should always, be utterly ruthless.
Consistency
Emmerdale’s powerful storylines are its absolute strength. When the show tackles something serious, it really treats it with care.
The aftermaths and long-running focus on Marlon’s stroke and Paddy’s mental health have been sublime – with storylines only this week revisiting Paddy’s grief over Grace, while Marlon has anxiety over getting back behind the wheel.
And the fact that the Man Club continues to be a solid staple of the village is refreshing; the story could easily have fallen into the soap mistake of being done and dusted then forgotten.
But when the show tries to get across a message, things can get a bit jarring when combined with other stories taking the same issue a lot less seriously.
Just days after raising awareness that a single punch can kill someone, a scene showed Bob smack Liam in the face with zero consequence. So, how are we treating punches?
Bernice’s equally important menopause group ran concurrently with Paddy’s Man Club, but has been played for laughs, which has felt like a major mis-step.
And, after Noah faced pretty much zero ramifications for stalking Chloe and displaying incel behaviours, he became central to a story about his girlfriend Amelia being stalked by a creep.
Noah portrayed as a hero in this scenario leaves a bit of a sour taste.
The show needs to take care not to undermine its best work in this way.
They stick to their guns when seeing these stories through, so they also need to stick to the core message.
Redemption arcs
Speaking of Noah’s redemption, the show has had a bit of an issue recently of desecrating characters and changing their personalities – only for it to be reversed with the expectation that viewers should forgive and forget.
To be fair to the current team, this is not a new issue – it still annoys many that Kerry and Amy live care-free in the village – and judge the crimes of others – when they effectively got away with killing Frank.
Noah was a character that ‘learned his lesson’ and was re-established into the fold without much furore, but it’s pretty hard to forget in this Amelia love story, that he really was a very serious danger to women not long ago.
And the character of Chas is back to being a little bit sanctimonious about the bad behaviour of others – such as Charity cheating and Caleb lying.
It’s very hard to warm to Chas again after the way she treated Paddy without any real remorse.
If Emmerdale truly wants us to forgive these characters, the redemption arcs need to be deeper and longer, with a much more detailed exploration of the behaviours and motivations behind them.
LGBTQ+ couples
It was noted during Pride Month that three LGBTQ+ couples in Emmerdale split up in quick succession – which was not a good look for a soap that actually nails it with diversity in the show, and representation for the community, character-wise.
Not all that long on from the controversial Vanity split, couples with potential, most notably the moving Heartstopper-esque pairing of Arthur and Marshall – were dropped.
Arthur’s coming out was handled beautifully and in an understated way by Emmerdale, so I am still confused by why the relationship went south so swiftly.
There are hints that Nicky will embark on a relationship with Suni, so hopefully this can be reversed to an extent that there can be a bit of joy for gay characters.
We are still rooting for Mary – and just when is Ethan going to get something to do?
Dropped stories need addressed
Emmerdale has kicked off stories that have the potential to be very interesting – but some of them just go nowhere.
The Rhona and Gus plot – which explored the concept of Rhona being asked to help her ex with having a baby – was new territory, but it was over and done with within weeks.
It left a few loose ends, with the expectation that more was to come but, months on, there is no sign of that.
Where is Chloe’s dad, after all this time and mentions of him? And why drop the big ‘Kerry is her mum’ bombshell right as Laura Norton left?
It was simply left hanging, with zero aftermath.
Tone down the huge stunts
Emmerdale knows how to put on a spectacle – some of its stunts have gone down in history, such as the motorway pile-up and Meena’s burning maze.
But, and this is more of an ITV issue, ‘Super Soap Week’ has become a bit of a problem.
It’s now the expectation that some sort of stunt has to half-destroy the village and kill off residents in October, which makes it predictable and pretty unrealistic how disaster will strike the same time every year.
There is also the pressure on Emmerdale to up the ante and beat the previous year each time, which led to a week with simply too much – a storm, a cow stampede, a man impaled on a tractor, an exploding quad bike, a crushing under a caravan – it was out of hand and the effect is diluted.
Time was, even a car crash would be extremely exciting and considered an event but it can’t be the case any more.
So with stunts, let’s mix it up a bit. Have less, and when they do happen, do they have to be in October?
And, unlike the big storm which had pretty much zero consequence (Harriet and Liv who?), there needs to be a return to character before spectacle. If we are blowing up the village, the key should be on what comes next.
‘Life will never be the same again’ can only work if, well, life is never the same again.
Less of the crime stories
How many drug dealers can one village have? There has been a reliance on short term criminals arriving – very often to create conflict for Cain – and it’s not very inspiring to see Nate now caught in a gangster style scenario. Which, again, it looks like Cain will resolve.
Two dimensional thugs and gangsters are so un-Emmerdale. And done far too regularly now to have any impact.
Does anyone even remember Dawn’s ex’s short-lived reign of terror? Or the gunman who shot David?
Dingle domination
The Dingle family is a double edged sword. They’re one of soap’s most iconic families and that should never change.
But it’s rare to see a story that isn’t Dingle connected, leaving the likes of the Sugdens and Tates hanging about in the background.
Even Caleb’s war with Kim Tate quickly became more Dingle focused.
Marlon and Faith’s stories were impeccable and there is another topical story coming to the Dingles that will undoubtedly be fantastic.
However, we need a bit less Dingle overload, it is hard to keep up and there are too many Dingles for them all to be realistically involved in each of the arcs ongoing.
But with all that is happening, each member absolutely would be part of it in real life. They need some breathing space to give it more of a family focus rather than story after story – and so do we.
Bring back Meena
Well, I can dream can’t I?

Alright screw it, full list of Kirby crossover Overwatch skin ideas:
Kirby Echo. Hard to explain how it looks with words but it works in my head.
King Dedede Reinhardt. In my heart this one is the Mythic skin of this bunch with variants for unmasked, the classic Masked Dedede mask, and the Forgo Dedede mask.
Meta Knight Genji. Not much explaining needed I think.
Bandana Waddle Dee Tracer. I didn't have any better ideas for either end of this pairing, but like. again it works in my head.
Whispy Woods Bastion. I swapped my ideas for Orisa and Bastion back and forth, but figured Ganymede dressed as the small Kirby bird of your choice would make more sense. Plus, Orisa already has a nature-themed skin.
Paint Roller Lucio. I think this is a fan favorite obscure miniboss, plus it'd be a fun different look for a Lucio skin.
Nightmare Sigma. With every idea for group skins I keep casting Sigma as the ultimate big bad, but like... c'mon it works too well here. The Hyperspheres are the ball form.
Rick Wrecking Ball. hamter.
Dark Matter Swordsman Soldier 76. mouthful, yikes. I actually had a list of notes I decided to check partway through making this post, and I forgot about this one. I think the idea was the visor? Could be cool I think.
Marx Junkrat. funny little guy who chucks exploding balls. Could do a fun detail with his prosthetics looking like pieces of Nova.
Heavy Lobster Orisa. Favorite obscure Kirby boss that never shows up in a series full of recurring bosses. Definitely a skin nobody besides me consciously wants.
Mr. Frosty/Chef Kawasaki Roadhog. Hard to pick between these two iconic midbosses, but I very much only see either design working as like, an edgy slasher villain parody of the original when on Roadhog.
Adeline Brigitte. Flail is the paintbrush. That's all the justification I need to say.
Ripple Queen Mei. Definitely a more obscure character to prioritize but the idea won't leave my brain, I think it'd look too cute to pass up. Also yes: Snowball is Ribbon.
Dark Meta Knight Reaper. ow the edge.
Daroach Cassidy. Hat. Though would also consider Ashe, if only just for the sake of Storro B.O.B.
Drawcia Moira. I mean Moira throws around blobs and sprays of bright colors around, it works. Plus I think this'd be a fun look for her that's not too out of place stylistically.
Necrodeus Doomfist. Felt bad not having a Mass Attack reference of any kind for some reason (even though I don't have an Epic Yarn character here and that's my favorite spinoff). This was the best pairing of "cool bad guy" matching that I had left, but I mean I think it'd look cool.
Magolor Zenyatta. Silly floating man with his orbs and mysterious past.
Landia Pharah. Another niche one but it looks sick in my head. Was also considering giving her Dyna Blade.
Taranza Lifeweaver. Okay explaining this one: sad pretty boy with trauma and a flower motif. Plus they both use grabby magic to yoink people. Works with how average Rein players feel about Life Grip.
Queen Sectonia Symmetra. I wanted to have Sectonia somewhere and by process of elimination this is the idea I like the best. Not explicitly meant for a SymWeaver thing but hey that works too. the inverse height dynamic between the pairings feels wrong though...
Susie D.va. This is another obvious one, little pink bitches with big mechs, little pew pews, trauma, and room for me to project onto.
Haltmann Torbjorn. Another one from my notes I completely forgot about. But like. Yeah no it still checks out.
Francisca Junker Queen. A guilty pleasure choice aside from the shared blue hair and axes.
Flamberge Illari. Listen the brain blast I had when I realized "burny powers and also her gun looks like a weird sword." Plus they both scream an above average amount.
Zan Partizanne Widowmaker. It'd be a crime if she wasn't one of the most canonically french Kirby characters.
Hyness/Void Termina Ramattra. I don't know the exact logistics of how this works but in the abstract concept in my head this looks awesome.
Gorimondo Winston. monke.
Yeah that's the list! Everybody besides Mercy, Hanzo, Zarya, Ana, Sombra, Ashe, Baptiste, Sojourn, and Kiriko got one. Also no Mauga... or Venture... or Space Ranger... look this list was from a while ago, plus none of these are even out yet so sue me. (actually had a few ideas for Mercy, but none of them felt really satisfying. Favorite idea for her was using Forgotten Land's final boss mostly because of the silhouette being... more similar than you'd think at first.) Also I got at least part of each of the dream friends besides Gooey, but like. Literally what Overwatch character reminds anyone in any way of Gooey. Be honest with me here.

Streets of Rage 3 (Bare Knuckles 3) - Stage 1:
“Let’s visit the third game , but this time, I will talk about the japanese version. This is one of the most controversial games of the series, because the japanese version and the main version, have some changes like: the difficulty and some controversial choices in characters and designs. The main version is a censored version of the japanese game, and with a higher difficulty. Honestly, I prefer the “Bare Knuckles”, aka japanese version way better. It’s an easier game, and some of the designs and characters don’t bother me at all. As a gay guy myself, a character like Ash (who’s meant to be a stereotype of a gay man) doesn’t bother me at all. He’s very camp and iconic. Love him so much. The other changes are in the design of some of the girls. They wear less risky clothes in the censored version, even tho their outfits in the previous two games were sexy as well.
Streets of Rage 2 may have the more iconic stages and music, but this game has the superior gameplay. This is the easiest Streets of Rage game for me to comeback because of it, and I would even claim it’s my favorite one but Streets of Rage 4 appeared and currently owns my heart.
Either way, this is a decent way to start this game. It’s a simple level with a lot of enemies to deal with and some interesting bosses to deal with. Shiva as the first boss fight is so scary, but he’s not that hard.”
PS: the gameplay used for this gifset is not mine. The original video belongs to the user: Gameplay and Talk, on Youtube.

Am I the only one who was shocked to discover that these three Pokémon were introduced in Gen 2 and not Gen 3?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the longest time I thought Skarmory was a Gen 3 Pokémon because it's the most iconic encounter on one of the most iconic routes in the Hoenn Region (Route 113, the volcanic ash fall route), it was the first boss in the Gen 3 Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game, and Winona has one in the anime.
Slugma is common in the Fiery Path in Hoenn AND Flannery had TWO of them in the anime as well (And they had names, Mag and Meg. It was cute :) )
So imagine my surprise when I eventually saw them grouped with the other Johto Pokémon. And that was very confusing because I never encountered a single Skarmory in Heart Gold.
… Which, ironically is the exact reason why I never encountered one. Johto is just extremely allergic to making their own Pokémon available on a playthrough team.
Skarmory is a 5% encounter rate (at night only) in Silver, Crystal and Soul Silver ONLY (not Gold or Heart Gold) and it's found on the completely optional route south of Blackthorn City aka the 8th Gym.
Slugma is only found in the Kanto region post game.
You know what, I'd be surprised if I wasn't the only one who thought that Skarmory and Slugma/Magcargo were from Gen 3, not Gen 2 considering they're a dime a dozen in Hoenn and so rare you might never find one in Johto.

Fanfic Challenge!!
Thanks to the ICONIC @whateversawesome for tagging me!
My fics are a mix of Spy x Family, Game of Thrones, Obitine, and Spider-Man!
Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag some people! If you have written fewer than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway!
Didn’t Mean To Fall In Love: Shots rang out behind Twilight's head as smoke billowed through the dark hallway. With his gun held tight in his grasp, Twilight crept around the corner, spotting two masked individuals. Both were holding large rifles and had grenades strapped to their legs. Twilight, as quietly as he could manage, reloaded his handgun, pointing it straight at the man closest to him.
I Just Need You Now: There's something to be said about first kisses: they were magical. Yor grew up fantasizing about how her first kiss would go down... and who it would be with. Yor never really worried too much about the last part, she was always too busy to focus on romance and dating. But since meeting her faux husband, Loid Forger... she always found herself imagining just what it would be like to have her first kiss with him.
Dancing In The Dark: Twilight writhed in the cool metal chair he was bound to, blood trickling down his arms as they were rubbed raw by the old rope. His captor was an Ostanian mafia boss who had been deadset on capturing the spy for weeks at that point. He pressed a gun to Twilight's temple, cocking it as he laughed.
New Years Revelations: Anya could barely sit still as she waited for Yor to finish ironing her dress. It was New Year's Eve, and the Forgers were running around the small West Berlint apartment, tidying up and cooking various foods. They were throwing a small party, in fact, their first since they had first come together all those months ago. Franky and Yuri were coming as well, and like Anya, Yor could barely contain her excitement.
The Delusions of a Dreamer: The year was 42 BBY. The Mandalorian Civil War was spreading across multiple sectors, killing hundreds. In a spacious mansion at the center of Kalevala, in an open pink and blue bed chamber, sat at a vanity made of oak and gold... Satine.
You’ll Be Okay: Yor walked down the dark hallway, her heels clicking against the concrete floor. There was little light in the building, only the moon and many stars illuminating the shadows. Yor stood straight, striding in elegance with her golden needles held tight in her grasp. She had been sent by the Garden to assassinate the ruthless spy, Twilight, who had been messing with many of her missions lately.
Patience: Silence wasn't unusual in the Forger household. During the day, there was silence as Anya was at school, and Loid and Yor were stuck at work. In the afternoon, the loudest thing in the house was the television blaring the latest Bondman episode. And at night, there was quiet dinner conversation followed by deep slumber.
Time Comes Around: "Something's happening..." Peter watched in horror as Mantis quickly faded away. Or rather... disintegrated. Her whole form turned to ash, and she was blown into the distant sky.
A War for Revenge: Westeros. A Western located sector of the known world. Home to the well known Seven Kingdoms. First ruled by Aegon the Conqueror: A Targaryen. An enigma. Now ruled by… well, that is still yet to be determined.
Promise Me You’ll Stay: She was on her knees, tears streaming from her face as she shook in front of her love. Darth Maul looked upon her in amusement, Obi-Wan Kenobi in fear. Satine knew she was about to die, but she couldn't lie and say she didn't deserve it. She felt as if she had failed. Failed her sister, her nephew, her people... Obi. Death was her penance, but she wasn't ready to go yet. Lost in her thoughts, she hardly noticed Maul rise from his chair next to her.

Today I beat Splatterhouse: Wanpaku Graffiti for the Nintendo Entertainment System...
...Well sort of.
I could never get into the idea of playing a version of a franchise that was a non canon chibi joke version just because it was on a less powerful console. And Splatterhouse isn't even really a franchise that is on my radar... a franchise that IS on my radar however, especially during this spooky time of the month, is Evil Dead...
So I played the romhack version, Evil Dead: Ash Lives, by Onion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now it's really just a graphics swap. The gameplay and sound is unmodified. This game makes the main character into Ash Williams from Evil Dead, out to rescue his daughter Brandy from a now giant and flying Necronomicon, a lot of the enemies from the game are now creatures from the movies and Ash Vs the Evil Dead TV series, with Ruby and Henrietta appearing as bosses.
The original game had some obvious homages and parodies that were "legally safe" knock offs, but this game drops the subtlty. The first boss is Micheal Jackson from the Thriller music video, Freddy Krueger appears as a late game boss, and they even throw in Jason, sporting his NES Friday the 13th color pallet. It's a very nice touch.
It's wild that they never really made any Evil Dead games besides the Atari 2600 game until the Playstation came along, Evil Dead does feel like a good fit for NES, given other horror icons were on that console, but I guess the series didn't really hit it's stride until Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, and by then it was already the 90's.
Anyway. I can only recomend this one if you like the Gameplay of Splatterhouse Wankakku Graffiti, but don't care for it being a parody of the actual Splatterhouse, and want an Evil Dead game for NES instead. I'm probably never going to play the original myself. This will be my preferred away to play the game, and I imagine that will piss off some purists.
