I hate the idea that because people can change, that means that survivors of abuse must lower their guard or forgive the person/people as though their old self has died and thus is incapable of bringing others pain, or that somebody is foolish for being traumatized by abuse because "people can change!".
Yes, statistically-speaking, anybody can change. Yes, maybe even an abuser can change. More often, that's not reality. Oftentimes, their abuse might be rewarded in some way, further solidifying that behaviour and the thoughts that led up to them deciding that they had the right to treat another that way.
Maybe you're a survivor, and your abuser seems to have changed. You might feel guilty that you're "holding on too long" to a person who isn't there. That doesn't mean that you have to let your guard down around them or permit them to be in your life.

Obsessions for 8th Housers?
Tumblr media
Do 8th housers get obsessed with someone and stay obsessed for years? It may not be romantic interest but even someone who displays the traits and emotions that the native embodies inside - quite literally the shadow work.
It happens in their life that they often get obsessed with someone, thinking about them all the time, when they speak they only speak about that person, they cannot even attempt to think about someone else, their emotions are tied to that person's behaviour, their memory is flooded with that person, they think about all the conversations with them and all the encounters with them, they make up scenarios in their head, begin their day with that person and end with that person. The subject of their obsession may not even know that the native is obsessed with them, native pretends everything is normal on the outside but secretly inside they are obsessing over that one person like crazy
You would wonder what the hell is this? Is it something deeply psychological issue? It turns out that these natives get obsessed with people who have something in their physical or material life that the native lacks but wants to have. 8th house deals with intense emotions and envy too is felt intensely. They are often not happy at the success of others and may even feel envious of other people's accomplishments. 8th house is psychologically complicated for a reason. If the native does not have certain things in life, he feels envious and bitter against someone who does have that thing. It could be something like respect in society, powerful job, elite lifestyle, somebody's looks or intelligence.
Tumblr media
The natives may not even realize they are doing it and since envying someone is frowned upon socially as ethically incorrect, they feel ashamed of their emotions and add to the self-sabotage. That something is wrong with them or that they are a bad person for envying someone else's good fortune. Even talking about this behaviour is taboo because who wants to admit that they are an envious and greedy person? The envy is not unfounded because in - the material world a lot of people compete for few resources so most people are bound to lack the resources; - not everyone starts from the same point in life; - not everyone has the same natural inclination or potential; - not everyone wins the genetic lottery or is exceptionally lucky; - not everyone has the required intelligence or ability to understand concepts. The usual things that successful people say "I am here because I worked hard, the harder I work the luckier I get" is not quite correct because our decisions, choices, thoughts, instincts, impulses, motivations are often unconscious and only make sense in the hindsight. They also underestimate the extreme luck they had to beat the competition and know the right method that makes them successful at something.
On top of that, many of them go on to flash, rub it in other's faces, identify with their success and use it for hierarchy control. That others are inferior to them, "you are an inferior human because you are not as successful as me". Often they do it unconsciously because they do not realize it is their insecurities and inferiority complexes, despite the success, that they still want to prove themselves to others and maintain their dominance over others. It is true that not everyone who gets successful in life is capable of handling that success emotionally, it goes to their head, they become arrogant and flamboyant, they are convinced that they are great and special, that they know better than others, that they must be better humans with better karma. This is no surprise, what I am telling is the insights I have observed over the years.
Take this astrology page, for example. I know astrology because it was a natural impulse in me, it is easier for me to understand the language of astrology than others who are simply not meant for it, since it is my natural interest I also spend a lot of time thinking about it so I automatically get better at it naturally, for some reason I was born with the genetic lottery in occult and a natal chart with karmic influences in the field of occult. None of my family members are into astrology and some of them do not even know the basics. Astrology is like Spanish to them, completely dumbfounded they are when they see the birth chart. Does this mean I am a better human than them because I understand something they do not? Can I use the astrological knowledge to dominate and show off to others? No, that is arrogance, pride, being self-important and being delusional that my astrology knowledge is something I willed. I did not will it, it happened to me. And it is not permanent and eternal, I will die someday and with that my astrology gifts will end too. It is my purpose for this lifetime, not eternally giving.
Tumblr media
For these reasons, 8th house is the shadowy and complicated thing that we do not understand on the surface. How easy it is to slip into entanglements of pride, ego, arrogance, possession over your material accomplishments. What we do not realize is that behind the glamour of success is deep fear of uncertainty, insecurity, lack of agency over one's life and fear of losing everything they have gained in life. Fear of losing good fortune makes someone dominate others so nobody else takes their place, become arrogant because internally they do not believe they actually deserve their good fortune, manipulate and misguide others so they do not become successful like them, build a brand for themselves so they leave a legacy and remain important even after death, they try to act like they know the secrets of success because they cannot digest that their success might just be a fluke or gamble of luck.
However, if these tendencies are ignored and dismissed, they bottle up inside and inflate the native's ego. With transition to 8th house or activation of 8th house in its ruler's dasha, this inflated ego is threatened and forced to collapse, undergo change and transform. The end result is to gradually realize that ego is merely an attachment to material form but what we forget to see is the wholeness of Self beyond the ego. When you go beyond "I, my, mine, myself", you realize that you are a nameless, faceless and invisible something. How scary is it to be a nothing in nowhere as a nobody! So you cling to the past, identity, material life, out of fear that you will never come back from the underworld.
So the obsessions that happen to 8th housers are indication of personal issues that native denies. For eg, it may be someone you deeply hate, even the way they talk just disgusts you, the way they move sends chills down your spine, you hate their vibes and how selfish they are. But at the same time, you are obsessed with them, does this person deserve your obsession? No. But can you shake it off? Not unless you accept the hard truth that you are just as selfish, deceitful, egotistical as the subject of your obsession. The rule of 8th house is that awareness and consciousness will set you free while denial and refusal to look into the shadow will keep you trapped.
Similarly, if you are envious of someone's fortune, can you identify your insecurities and label them? Can you achieve that fortune in some way? If not, can you adjust your perception around it? Often feelings are the guiding lights in this house. What no one can tell you, you feel your way through it. Here is no guru and no mentor, here is you and your feelings. That is why being in tune with your feelings is painful, mentally uncomfortable and tiring but essential task for 8th housers. Lucky are those who identify this psychological hurdle. There are many 8th housers who never realize that they can solve their own problems with change of perception or becoming more conscious of their feelings. Often, the obsessions with people will end when you are self-aware and witnessing your feelings, no matter how uncomfortable they are.

A while ago I came out as being bisexual, & while it does feel amazing and liberating can I still be attracted to nb people? I the definition of bisexuality is to be attracted to men & women only & while I technically fit into pansexuality I don't necessarily identify as it. The point is can I still be bisexual if what I am contradicts the definition? I figured somebody like you could help me.
Aww hey hey that's okay <3
I'll shed some light onto my thought process, as I'm a firm believer that bisexuality does NOT exclude nonbinary people.
So, everyone has their own way of defining their sexuality. It just so happens that bisexuality and pansexuality have a lot of overlap, but the distinction is still important to people, and that's okay
Personally I identify as bi/pan because the distinction between the two is largely negligible to me. I believe that the overlap on the venn diagram between the two is where my sexuality falls. I tend to just say I'm bisexual cuz like. it tends to be the aspect of my identity that gets erased the most, but it's important enough to me to where I like to assert it as much as I can to deny that erasure.
Some definitions i've heard for inclusivity's sake are as follows (but whether or not you want to follow these definitions is flexible to your own comfort level):
Bisexuality CAN be defined as attraction to both YOUR gender, and genders that differ from your own (hence the "bi" meaning 2). This is a little less rigid than saying that bisexuality is strictly an attraction to MEN and WOMEN, so some people tend to prefer it.
Pansexuality CAN be referred to as loving anyone REGARDLESS of gender, where gender doesn't actually come into consideration at all. This definition is good, but also, people who identify as bisexual COULD have largely the same thought process.
Do these sound similar?? yes! It's because they ARE similar, and they also aren't rigid definitions that everyone has to follow. The overlap is inherent for a very specific reason: comfort.
This is something that usually gets overlooked when the public consciousness talks about labels. There's a lot of arguments about specific definitions, and which labels are good or bad, which ones are inclusive, and which ones aren't, but I think these arguments leave out the central reason people use labels in the first place: Self Definition.
Labels, as they are, in reference to the LGBT community, are often used as a way to categorize and exclude other people (if you are a loser who's mean to people for identifying a certain way), but that is not their primary function. The reason we use labels (and this is true for everyone in the community), is because it helps us put words to our subjective experiences in a way that brings us the most comfort. Categorizing others is a waste of time, because the more people you meet throughout your life, the more you realize that peoples' ideas of gender and sexuality are all so varied and vast, much like the colors on a rainbow, that fitting them all into neat little boxes doesn't really work. There's no use trying to say that some labels are good and some labels are bad, because at the end of the day, the person you are observing DOES NOT identify as YOUR PERSONAL dictionary definition of their label. Rather, they have their own subjective experience, and they've chosen their own labels to define them (as rigidly or as loosely as they may).
Self-identifying is what it's always been: an individual's subjective reality put to words that make them comfortable.
It doesn't have to be any more specific than that <3

Astro observations #11
-The funny thing about looks is that astrology has the funniest ways of expressing itself that reading something like "leo risings have great hair" or "saturn dominant people have great bone structure", and you can go along with it. One day I asked my boyfriend what feature of mine stood out the most and I was expecting something like my eyes since that is usually said for neptune dominants. Then he said something like "Your hair and face shape" and I sat back thinking about it. Like hair, sure I do have a leo rising so I expected that but face shape??? Did the part of my teenage years where I focused on working out my face so I could have a great jawline actually work out in my favor....yes yes it did. Now I have a great jawline that it can coexist with my hair as a outstanding feature. I make a big show of this because I started looking more and more into astrology and appearance patterns and you know what I found? Nothing becuase I am shitty at researching and connecting things. I know it's not ideal all things considering I do run a astrology focused blog but shit happens. I would love to hear you guy's thoughts and opinons on astrology being connected with appearance and the patterns of all that. Like I can see certain things but I fail at finding the patterns myself tbh.
-Moving on, my pluto trines my sun and my ascendant and my sun trines my ascendant. My venus also trines my ascendant while my jupiter sextiles it. And honestly it's interesting to hear people's first impressions of me and I give off conflicting impressions. I seem hardworking yet not to the point of being an asshole about shit. In high school I had people think I smoked but I have never done any drugs but I give off a certain vibe. I also think it's cause smoking isn't considered "acceptable" ,for a lack of better words, so I have always spent my time around people who do smoke because I never truly felt "normal" or "acceptable" when I was younger especially. To a certain degree I understand why I tend to vibe with what's considered outside of the norm but I don't exactly indulge into it myself. My seventh house is in aquarius, my uranus and lilith is in my seventh house, plus my seventh house lord is in either my tenth or my seventh house (I am still unsure about aquarius because it is said to rule both uranus and saturn). So naturally what's considered "outcast" or "stigmatized" hasn't always escaped my interest. Yet I don't find serial killers and all that, that interesting...I still learn about it because I feel a pull to understand why. Like why does this confuse people so much? You can find a reason for murder and most people if not everyone seems to be able to want to kill somebody. Of course this is a very rooted in morality so just know serial killers that kill people out of pure pleasure disgust me. Anyways I want to assume it's beyond the mindset of murderers that interest people so if anyone wants to discuss it with me further my inbox is open. Or anything else you guy's would wanna talk about. I feel like I'm missing something in this world which is knowledge. I live through pure curiosity as opposed to spite or hope. There is not a defined goal like spite but there is still somewhat a goal in curiosity. It's to know more but it doesn't always have to be positive either. It is the 'neutral' between many reasons to live but it works for me.
Alright enough of my random babble, I hope this made sense to anyone. Afterall I am posting this to be shared with others because if I wanted to only have this be for me it wouldn't be so public. Or even written down to be honest.

Bad Guys Making Bad Decisions
Hey there, cybernetics. Well, we're on issue 7 of 10. That's really all there is to say at this point!
Here's the cover:
Tumblr media
Oh, jeepers, no. Nico, don't kiss that mans. He doesn't even have lips, for one thing. He's got all that misty red leakage. And, like, he couldn't even be bothered to put on a clean shirt, for cripe's sake. Now, the real question is, trace the angle of Nico's arm. Now trace the angle of the Staff of One. Where is she holding onto that thing? Like, even if it's in her other hand--which seems even less comfortable--where is she holding it? Or if Alex is holding it… We can see his one hand, so same question applies. I think they just wanted to get the Staff on the cover and didn't really think about it because they weren't drawing the characters lower than the bottom of the frame. That all aside, great cover, though. Very spooky. Oooo~
So… What the fuck was last issue about? I've honestly forgotten. Something with Deathlocket? Yeah, that sounds right, sure. Anyway, we open today with narration from Nico, where she's like "Most girls fantasise about killing their first boyfriend, don't they?" Geez, I hope not. I think you may be projecting, Nico, because you literally did that. Anyway, these feelings are surfacing for her because Alex has trapped her in a pocket dimension to fight a magma elemental. You know, standard stuff you do with your ex, I'm sure~
It's not even the lava golem she's fighting that's pissing her off, it's that Alex keeps flirting with her. And that's certainly fair. Fortunately, before it gets too awkward, Hazmat and Anachronism enter and tell her there's a problem regarding Chase. If you recall, Chase blew his cover last issue by preventing Captain America from being shot. Because despite his somewhat dudebro personality and his even douchier looks in this storyline, Chase is actually a good guy. He's the hope we still have riding on this storyline. That oughta worry you.
The away mission returns, and they did retrieve their guy from AIM or whatever they were doing. But as Nico teleports in, they find Chase was shot. Surprisingly, Excavator covers up for him. Sometimes folks just get shot while on missions, you know how it goes. He says it wasn't anybody's fault. Nico retorts that it's always somebody's fault. And hey, remember how I said Chase appears in future Runaways stories, so I wasn't worried? Nico casts a spell to "fix him", channelling purple lightning into him. Well, for once, she certainly can't make him worse~
Now here's a cutaway I didn't expect. We move over to the SHIELD Helicarrier to see our other victim of the AIM debacle: Captain America. He's having a debriefing with Maria Hill and Hank Pym. Hank obviously wants to just storm in there and get the kids, while Maria points out that Bagalia is a sovereign nation and they can't just do that. But in case you think she's the reasonable one, Hank just wants to help the kids, while Maria calls them "fugitives" who conspired and succeeded in murdering a man, resisted arrest, and escaped custody. In case you wondered if she still had that stick up her ass~
Now, Cap is of course on the same side as Hank in rescuing the kids, but they can't really do anything about it right now. He's more worried about the agent they lost in the debacle: a certain Reginald Crenshaw, head of SHIELD's entire information network. This is who the Masters of Evil were targeting, who was being held by AIM. He's warded against psychics of all stripes, so the Masters haven't a snowball's chance in hell to get him to spill. Funny wording, that. Because remember Satannish's cameo a few issues back? He possesses Crenshaw, completely hacking his mind open. …Figuratively, to be clear.
We return over to Nico and friends, observing Chase in emergency care. She's getting antsy because it's taking more than a few minutes to heal him. The doctor (who's a creepy half-cyborg fucker the wiki is telling me is actually the Tinkerer, a man who does not have a medical degree) tells her that Chase is suffering from the trauma of the gunshot wound and is comatose. Nico doesn't get it, she healed that wound with magic. She's seen Chase get up after being hit by a car (which I think is a reference to the ending of the "Rock Zombies" storyline in Runaways). So why isn't he okay now?
Dr. Walker (or the Tinkerer or whoever he is) tells her that neuroscience is more complicated than that. You can't just "magic" someone's brain better. And she's welcome to try, maybe she'll regress him into infancy somehow. She retorts that magic doesn't work like that. Looking smug, he retorts with a request for how magic does work, then. And of course, her retort is "it just does!" and blowing all the windows apart while storming out of the room. Ah, teenagers, am I right~?
Tumblr media
This very funny tantrum is followed by the extremely stupid decision of her to go snog Alex Wilder. And, like, Alex is an evil jerk, but the first thing he asks is "How's Chase?" when she returns, with a look of genuine concern on his face. And I will give him points for that. Meanwhile, the comic ends with a glimpse of Cammi in prison. She's spent the whole time carving a peephole so she can spy on Baron Zemo and crew. However, her very chatty cellmate keeps bugging her. And why shouldn't he bug her? Because it's Arcade. He's alive, imprisoned by the Masters of Evil, and he still won't shut up.
Bad choices, bad guys, and of course, bad comic books. This one is mostly just continuing everything from last time. The Alex/Nico stuff is gross and uncomfortable, and it's not coz they're teens shacking up or anything. Alex's flirting comes across as way too manipulative, which is probably the point? It doesn't make me enjoy reading the character, though. This isn't the worst issue of the thing, but it does feel like it breezes by a bit too quickly. Maybe because basically nothiing happened in it, besides the ending reveal?

Only skim personal as in personal of the players, not your own personal ones!
I agree completely, nobody should ever feel compelled to have anything done and it is very sad that they do, but we have to accept that it has very much become normal for this to happen now.
I think you may have missed my point, because I agree with what you are saying. As a society we are more hypocritical of girls than boys when they may be having similar measures done. I was using Freddie as an example to say exactly that, that few people would think twice about commenting on his decision but not if it was a girl with lip filler for example. I know they are not the same in scale of the procedure, but I was comparing as a point of the fact that he is young, it is still irreversible and done to beautify but the reaction is so different.
I agree most influencers take deals for the money rather than because they believe in what they are promoting. And it is really sad if it took something as serious as cancer for someone to realise how bad it was to promote those things.
I apologise for coming across patronising, maybe that’s just how I write but not how it was intended. I do think though I was fairly nice to fredanon in the original post. I only tried to advise them on how to handle their own emotions being affected by somebody’s elses decisions. I actually felt their response was quite harsh when I only mentioned them to help them.
My overall point was not to say you can’t have an opinion. I have no right to say that. There’s nothing wrong with not liking fillers and voicing that you don’t. As I said before I only took issue with when I felt your opinions on these things made you dislike the person, or calling them ugly, rather than disliking what they have had done. Of course there are times when the person themselves is just dislikeable.
It was also about just bringing general awareness that having such strong opinions can affect other people to those they were directed at. Like would I feel comfortable turning off anon for you to see my profile picture knowing you would have an opinion of my personality or maybe thought I was ugly if I looked a certain way? I feel like that is perhaps the best example for you to understand my point.
But again, that is only my opinion. And like you say it is an open discussion, there is no ‘right or wrong’ answer as such and there are some points we can both agree on.
And to fredanon. The reason I’m getting in touch is because it was a public discussion on a blog where you can submit so I don’t think I did wrong. I don’t think it’s really comparable with getting in touch with any of those people, because they post themselves rather than opinions so of course it would be odd to tell them what you think when they’ve said nothing. There’s nothing wrong with having a gossip, I don’t think I’ve said that. I also don’t think there’s anything wrong with making personal observations, so long as they aren’t unnecessarily rude to a specific person.
As I also said above, my original post was not intended for you other than my advice to help you be less emotionally affected by things you may see online.
To be honest I’ve luckily never been judged for anything I do. Even the tan, I’m my own biggest hater for that because it looks awful sometimes🤣 I agree people’s opinions don’t matter if you like yourself, but your original point was that it was sad these girls don’t like themselves.
Both of you seem nice, I’ve never thought otherwise even with having different opinions on this. Like I said above I don’t have a problem with people who don’t like it, it was just when opinions turn into personal attacks. As much as it is Amelie’s blog, it is also open to other users to debate for as long as she makes it so. And I have never said ‘don’t post this or that’, I was just expressing how it can come across sometimes to a casual reader. I like to think neither of you are the type to judge someone based on how they look
Oh I see but....As much as I do understand not wanting to be involved into the convolution of their dating life, see what it made out of us, I am legitimately wondering why (and I'm not saying you are doing it ) in general, people are turning it as a bad thing to do. I used to have interactions with people draping themselves into a better light , kind o purity look for not wanting to be involved in the personal part of their idol. You are like "a better fan" if you are not searching more into it than the performance in sport/music/art /etc.. they perform and nothing else. I get that but I'm not shaming people like me for the cause, those choosing another way to enjoy their passion or idol... I get that some people oversteps and boundaries are crossed but for rugby for example the players themselves asked for more realness and see what they did at tigers giving us the weekly capsule now is really a good example of the transparency and close to crowd direct actions they are taking. It is good for business also to have a story to merch and they vibe on that tigers family (fake sometimes) identity. So having real or fake closeness to your fav player is playing their agenda. Anyways was just thinking that even amongst same fanbase everyone is so judgmental as well. A bit sad.
For example I have been unfollowed and blocked because I had critics over one match and wasn't very proud of Jack's behaviour lately on the pitch. Anyways I am opening up another topic if you are still open to chitchat over here.
I feel just sick in my stomach that it became the new normal to get something done around your 20s... I have seen so many documentaries about surgery because it always fascinated me since the tv serie niptuck and I have seen like weeks ago one about the multiple op. For having your ass done ??? Very scary all the people dying with that one and just because they wanted to fit in. It is such a biggest issue as even medical pharmacy firm are involved in that deadly business...
I personally think it was also a mistake and he looked more handsome with those teeth
:( but he has been bullied a bit so I get that he wanted a change but if we could also cut that the impact others have on us and the validation we always want everything would be so simple. Great we are agreeing on many points.
I think I will simply think about twice but I think it is usually not that deep really even tho I get your point. I think it is mainly frustration to see them also fall for those traps because it really is traps when you see sometimes the changes before after just let say make up ? It is witchcraft sometimes. If it can make you feel better fine but look like an entire different person ??? It feels weird to me.. no wonders dismorphia is taking a step further.. what I also hate is filters ? As everyone is on constant pressure to achieve irrealistic goals now..
I understand your point but everyone has a first impression based on look alone it is human. Dating apps are over using this human behaviour to a dead end but it is only normal? I mean according to your tastes , origin, education you will judge on look first obviously. What you need to is surpass that and not let it the only criteria but thinking there are people not judging on look is too irrealist. You do that daily even on common object.. I guess blind people cannot but otherwise ?
I really hope sometimes it could come from a place were really they do that just for enjoyement and to an extent I think on some parts it might be possible like makeup to be creative not only to cover but with surgery I don't think so.
I will not judge only on that , that is for sure and will try to understand the reasons behind anything but yes in that society look is important unfortunately.
Okokok let's face it 2 min here and let's be real tho ? I really have like MAX 10 people who aren't bots interracting with my post so the chances a casual reader come across it or a wag type girl come across this tumblr are close to non existent but I appreciate you give this blog some value and rate it that much. Yes it is internet and at the minute it is not completely under private settings but I can change that anytime and mostly my audience is close to zero. So I am not offending a lot of potential inexistent people.

Evan Rubinson’s Tips on the Hiring Process
Every manager is defined by their record on tough decisions. While there’s no foolproof way to ensure you’ll always make the right moves, learning from the processes of successful people can help you find insights into your own decision-making process.
Evan Rubinson, an entrepreneur who’s led international conglomerates, hedge funds, and music industry startups, recently shared a few insights into how he makes important decisions at the office.
As a firm believer in the power of people, Rubinson focuses a lot of time on making the right hires for his businesses.
“You can get, just like a baseball team or a football team, you can get a bunch of all-star players under one roof. That doesn't mean you're going to win a championship,” he said. “If I talk to someone and I can tell that they get it, they relate, they have commonality with people or an industry that I'm working in, they understand the people, they understand me, they understand the vision of the company…that, to me, is the most meaningful part.”
Rubinson advocates hiring people who contribute positively to the office environment as well as the bottom line.
“Culture is very, very important to me,” he said. “I think if people can row in the same direction and they're all focused on the same agenda and everyone is confident enough, but also humble enough to work together, that to me is where you really unlock extra value.”
That doesn’t mean ignoring performance, he cautioned. While intangible qualities are paramount to success, every employee should be more than capable of performing their roles from day one, Rubinson said.
“With everything I do, I think there's a weed-out procedure where certain people check boxes — or don’t, kind of — on paper before I even get into their uniqueness, their personal qualities,” he said. “Certain people are cut out for things and certain people aren't. That weed-out process is very important to funnel things down into a reasonable metric, where you can really figure out who is in the right place, putting aces in their places, putting square pegs into square holes.”
From there, he looks closely for subtle signs that an employee’s values align with his company’s mission. If your company culture is one of honesty, empathy, and teamwork, you need to ferret out those qualities before onboarding a new worker, he explained.
Once a potential hire gets to the point where they meet Rubinson, the process becomes personal. He gets one-on-one time, perhaps an interview, a dinner, or some FaceTime where Rubinson observes their body language to see “if they're nervous, if they're confident, if they believe in what they're selling, if they relate to consumers. That's really the most important part, that intangible aspect to me.”
Rubinson is on the lookout for individuals with a high degree of emotional intelligence.
“I think that's ultra, ultra important,” he said. “I don't care what industry you're in, I don't care what you do, and I don't care what role in a company, whether you're mid-market, executive, entry-level, it doesn't matter to me. If people understand human psychology, how to relate to people, what people want to hear, what people don't want to hear, and they're able to blend reality with human psychology, I think that's the most important.”
Too often, Rubinson said, managers make decisions based on resumes and “right answers.” As a former hedge fund founder, he understands the appeal of specified knowledge, but raw skills aren’t enough, he pointed out.
Perhaps his most important nugget of advice is, “Don't be a jerk. And if you're not a jerk to deal with, if you can be a relatable business person, if you're somebody that people want to work with and they gravitate toward, you will always do better than being the guy that punishes people, that beats people into the ground, that squeezes every last dollar out of a relationship.”

Dental Tips - Overcoming Your Fear of the Dentist

Zombie biker girl
Tumblr media
Zombie biker girl movie#
If you don't want to get your stomach pumped maybe make it only when they curse more than once in a sentence. And for you raving alcoholics anytime some one swears. (Remember to drink after the scene is done to avoid the inevitable spit take) 6. A bubbly buxom blond bounces across the frame. Anytime someone just sits on a bike and does not ride it (I was informed that they had to use trained monkeys for the motorcycle riding scenes as the actors that were suppose to ride the bikes were untrained). Somebody dies with a silly smile on his or her face. You must drink double if the cop eating the donut is "waiting in the car".
Zombie biker girl movie#
This next rule applies to all TV and movie drinking games, Cop eating a donut. Drink when ever a character makes an impossible observation (I dare anyone to identify the undergarments wore by anyone wearing bagging non hip hugger denim or corduroy pants while a large sweat shirt or over coat is worn). But unfortunately they overlooked some major areas, so reckless bingeing can still be had. A custom aerial shot of the city was replaced by footage of another Metropolitan City shot from the back of a cab. Finally absolutely no footage shot in the city of Detroit. (rumor has it a cameo by the 60's rock group "The Zombies" as the band in the club was omitted because of the double drink implications). Again the zombie hordes of extras on the cutting room floor. It was said they actually shot a scene with over 150 biker extras but left it out for sobriety's sake. So the movie-makers in their infinite wisdom decided that the liability of all those drunken video watchers on a rampage could be deterred was to insure the following. Those seem like the simple and obvious rules. Anytime that the fine city of Detroit can be recognized in the motion picture. Anytime that a Zombie is seen, heard or even referred to at all. Anytime that a Biker is seen riding (not smoking) a hog (motorcycle). Let us figure out the parameters of a drinking game based on the epic BIKER ZOMBIES FROM DETROIT. Horrified that Bikers could lead to an epidemic level of alcoholism and rampant drug use the kind souls behind Bikers knew what they must do, deep down in their hearts. One of those games that when those who are indulging in joys of inebriation watch certain films or TV shows that anytime a predictable word or gesture is produced all must drink (Picard straitens tunic, Kramer burst through door, etc. As it turns out those higher powers that were responsible for this movie knew with a title like "Biker Zombies from Detroit" that they had an instant drinking game on the hands. I not only saw this movie but also actually had the opportunity to meet someone who actually worked on it (they were in a drunken stupor when they confessed). But the problem is that most people have apparently missed the point of this production. A very verbal bunch don't you think? The reason for this is obvious if you have watched the classic cult movie that is Bikers (we call it that for short). Now if you are reading this comment then you must have read some if not all of the other comments.

Everybody Talks Too Much (Cassandra Dimitrescu/Mute!Reader)
Fandom: Resident Evil: Village Rating: T for language, brief violence Summary: Whenever Cassandra gets angry, no one wants to deal with her. Well, no one but you, that is. Thankfully, the middle child appreciates your company... not that she'd ever admit it. Notes: Another self-indulgent fic with a selectively mute reader. This one's a lil different. Sections in italic are mostly indications that the reader is miming actions in order to communicate, though there are a few internal thoughts that are marked as such. Unlike the past two I've done, this takes place pre-relationship, so there's some mutual pining of sorts. I think that's the word.
--------------------------
Among the many servants of Castle Dimitrescu, there were a number of secret rules to be followed. Guidelines that were never written down, only spoken in hushed whispers, for specific (and dangerous) circumstances. Most could be divided into one of two categories: 1, how to reduce the chances of a Lady of the house killing someone. 2, how to make sure that if they kill someone, it will not be you. Of these rules, there was one that you knew best of all, despite never having been told it. Why? Because you have observed it time and time again. After all, the rule revolved around you. To put it plainly… If Cassandra Dimitrescu was in an awful mood, but had yet to draw blood, send in the mute.
Even now, as you rushed down a corridor, you did not know why this rule was in place. You simply knew that you had been summoned countless times by frantic maidens, to go serve their volatile mistress. Admittedly you did understand their eagerness to thrust the task upon someone else. Cassandra was often considered the deadliest of the Dimitrescu daughters, for she was the quickest to anger, the one with the deepest bloodlust, and took the longest to calm down. Personally, you disagreed, believing that it wasn’t terribly hard to know what she did and did not like. All it took was some observation. It was Daniela who scared you, seeing as she was unpredictable. She didn’t even need to be in a bad mood to want to kill you.
Of course, that didn’t necessarily mean that you saw no danger in working with Cassandra. In fact, you saw a fair bit, such as now: Right as you round the corner, a shiny object hurls past your head, embedding itself into the wall. Had you been walking ever so slightly faster… Well, you preferred not to dwell on such things, especially not when the one who threw the thing was still nearby. Based on the howling laughter and swarm of insects that moves around you, the intended target was Lady Daniela. Across the room is the markswoman herself; Cassandra stood tall, huffing in anger, staring at the spot her sister had just vacated from.
“Damn it!” She yelled, stomping her foot as if the resulting shockwave might do what her weapon had not. Oddly amused, you’re quick to remove the sickle from the wall, careful as to not damage it. It’s a tad dirty, but nothing you can’t fix with your handy pocket cloth. Cleaning as you walk, you slowly move towards your employer, not even bothering to spare her a glance. After all, you had your own rules for dealing with her.
(1: Avoid eye contact for at least one minute after an outburst.)
By the time you make it to Cassandra, the minute has come and gone, allowing you to ever-so politely look her in the eyes when you return her blade. She scoffs, then practically rips the sickle from your hands. This was your job, however, so you made no complaints. Not that you could, at least not verbally. Instead, you gave a short bow of acknowledgement. Afterwards you stood still, awaiting either instructions or a dismissal. Neither came.
“I can’t believe that little shit tried to take my favorite dagger and thought she could get away with it! Agh, the nerve of her! Can you believe this?” Cassandra snapped, turning to you as if you might agree with her. Nod, simple yet effective. “At least you know how to handle a blade. Damn Daniela is lucky she didn’t get any scratches on mine.” Then she pulls the knife in question from its place on her belt, letting it gleam in the light. A soft exhale, head tipping to the side, wow is it pretty. So is the one holding it. Your mind wanders but your gaze does not. Always polite, always ready to serve.
(2: Do not get distracted; she is no patient lover, rather a demanding boss.)
“Cassandra! What was all that noise a minute ago?” Someone called, interrupting your ‘conversation’. The speaker soon appears, being none other than Lady Bela, the most reasonable of the castle residents. Though that meant little, considering the nature of her family. As if to prove your point, Cassandra merely rolls her eyes in reply, refusing to divulge the truth. And so Bela turned her gaze to you, perking a brow. “Feeling up to talking today?” She asked, already knowing the answer. Of course, your hands are already moving, not even waiting for her to finish speaking. This is a game you know intimately.
A hand goes to your belt, moving to pull a nonexistent blade from its sheath. Raising it, moving it forward then back several times, launching it towards the wall- towards the hole left behind. Then shifting, waving your hand in front of your face while exhaling a sharp breath. Flinching. An exaggerated gulp, pretending to check if your nose is still attached, sighing in relief. Lastly, an inclination of your head towards the culprit. Cassandra.
“I was aiming for Daniela. Not that it matters, nobody got hurt,” she stated, confident. Both hands clasped together, then tapping the palms together, mimicking a heartbeat at a reasonable pace. Suddenly a stomp. The beating stops, and you hold your hands next to your ear, as if listening for signs of life. Pause. Three seconds. Worried expression, eyes wide. Finally, fast as a gunshot, the heart beats again, wildly. At this, Bela shoots her sister a look of doubt, as well as judgement. Hoping to change the subject, Cassandra looks to you. “What are you doing here anyway?”
Rubbing your chin, thinking. Squinting for effect. Ah, got it! Both hands go to your sides, lifting the imaginary hem of a dress you aren’t wearing. Waltzing forward, yet in place, with the poise expected of a professional maid. Then the focus shifts to your face. Fear. A silent scream, a hand at your forehead, feeling like you… might… faint. Falling backwards, making a step at the very last second to prevent a real collapse. End scene.
“Someone was scared?” Bela asked, sounding uncharacteristically unsure of herself. When you nod, she does as well, considering the implications. “Why would they send you?”
“I hardly care why, I just want to know who so I can kick their ass,” Cassandra interjects, taking a step closer to you. All you do in response is shrug. Unsurprisingly this is not enough to please her, and before you know it she’s wrapped a hand around your throat. “Give. Me. A. Name. Now.” A perked brow. Thoughts practically telegraphed. ‘What do you expect?’ Opening your mouth, slightly, then wide, back to almost closed. No sound comes out. Obviously. It’s not like you wanted to break your own rule, but in this case you had no choice.
(3: Give her whatever she wants, consequences be damned.)
Luckily for you, Bela acts as a foil to Cassandra, there to smooth the seas. Moving behind you, she reaches into your back pocket and retrieves the notepad you keep there. Then she’s handing it to you while making eye contact with her sister. Cassandra promptly releases you, though she’s clearly not pleased, going so far as to push you away in one last act of anger. Internally you roll your eyes. On the outside, however, you quickly write down everything you know… which isn’t much.
“I don’t remember who it was. A lot of people have asked. This happens a lot.” Then you hand the paper to Bela, who soon looks back up at you in confusion. Too antsy to wait for her own turn, Cassandra yoinks the notepad from her sister’s hands, reading it over several times before reacting.
“What the fuck? Why would they send you to me because somebody pissed their pants in fear? I’m going to kill someone. Ugh, I don’t- this doesn’t make any goddamn sense,” Cassandra ranted, pacing back and forth, looking like she wanted to destroy something immediately. To your surprise, Bela doesn’t look the slightest bit concerned. If anything, she looks amused, and smiles when the two of you make eye contact. Something tells you that she knows something that you don’t. Before you can react, she quietly retrieves your notepad and returns it to you. Then she pauses, thinking, eying you with curiosity.
“Why don’t you go for now? See if anyone thanks you for stepping in, hmm?” She suggested, tone implying that this was absolutely about something else entirely. Still, you don’t care to disobey, and so you bid the two of them farewell with a deep bow. As you leave, you can almost make out part of what they say next. But you’re certain that you must have heard incorrectly. “Showing your favoritism a little too much, sister? If even the servants can see it-” the rest of the sentence is cut off by angry muttering from Cassandra. After that you’re too far away to hear anymore. What a strange day...
--------------------------
“Hey, you know where Lady Cassandra’s room is, right?” Ygritte asked, casually, definitely not having just been told by someone else that you were the solution to her problem. Pretending that you were unaware of this, you give her a smile and a nod. Later, behind her back, you will mentally add her to your list of people to watch out for. Maybe even decide to refuse to share your biscuits with her. In the meantime, you pretend that you don’t mind whatever task she’s about to dump on you. “Can you bring these books to her? I really have to get back to the kitchen soon, and that’s in the opposite direction…”
Technically true. Something told you that the real problem was that Cassandra had been extra loud the past few days. Regardless, you accept the books from her, leaving before she even finishes thanking you. Why do people do this? I don’t get it, you think. It’s like they think I’m immune to her rage. If that were true, I’d gladly throw myself between her and others. But no, that’s not the case. Hmmph, if only they saw my scars. Shaking your head to clear your thoughts, you keep walking, subconsciously rubbing the spot on your arm where Cassandra had cut you. Well, the worst spot. Being pain tolerant had made her take interest in you, during your first few weeks, but it’s what allowed you to learn her rules. Your rules, really.
Knock. Knock. A pause… three more, much softer. The door swings open, revealing your Lady, whose eyes widen at the sight of you. Tipping your hat (which you are not wearing), you greet her, forcing another smile. Then you present the books, free hand gesturing with a spiral motion towards them. She doesn’t respond. No, wait, she glances at the door hinges, considering closing the door in your face. Now both of you are staring at each other, daring the other to move.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” she finally said. There’s a gruffness to her voice that you hadn’t expected. It’s unlike her usual tone, less angry, more tired. Were those bags under her eyes?... No, just smudged makeup. “Don’t just stand there- tell me why you’re here.” Again, you gesture to the books, extending your hands further towards her. This time she takes a half-step backwards to avoid you. Peculiar. “Someone else was supposed to bring them, dipshit. Fucking hell, why can’t anyone around here do their damn jobs?” At last, she takes the books from you, carrying them deeper into your room. Though she does not close the door, you assume that your job is done. Or maybe you simply do not wish to deal with a Cassandra who’s frustrated by your specific presence. Either way, it breaks one of your rules, though you do not remember until it is too late.
(4: Do not leave until dismissed by a member of the family.)
“Where the hell are you going?” The sound of buzzing flies, a blur of motion around you, then the form of Cassandra solidifying in front of you. One of her hands is raised, pressing against the center of your chest. She pushes you, hard, making you stumble backwards into her room. Next thing you know you’ve crashed onto her floor. A tad stunned, you bring a hand up to hold your head, blinking rapidly for a few seconds. There’s the sound of a door closing, and then someone’s trying to help you stand. “I didn’t say you could leave yet. Now c’mon, I’ve got stuff for you to do.” Then she’s guiding you to her bed, making you sit down on the end. Panicked thoughts race through your mind one after another. What exactly was she intending? Thankfully you don’t have to wait long to find out. “Read through these, and-” a pause, like she hadn’t known what she was going to say until she was already speaking- “take notes. Make a summary of the bookmarked sections, or whatever.” Handing you a couple books (neither of which being ones you had just brought to her), she sits on the other side of the bed, refusing to look at you. She does, however, say one last thing, voice barely above a whisper. “Just stay for a while, okay?”
Inside your head, you make a mental note to amend your list of rules.
(4.b: Do not leave until dismissed by a member of the family. If Cassandra asks you to stay, you stay, no matter what. It’s worth it.)

Genshin drabbles filled with sadness - Kaeya, Diluc, Xiao
“What have I done? Why did I write such angsty stuff? I feel horrible for hurting the boys. Maybe I should have delete this...”
prompts: loosing their s/o for whatever reason, f!reader
Genre: angst
Warning(s): nsfw (alcohol consumption, mention of blood) don’t give me that look you don’t want to read this at work, depression & mourning, reader’s dead (no violent or detailed description the boys just lost their girl)
Tumblr media
Kaeya has poured two glasses of wine. One for him and one for the woman sitting next to him. She was smiling with the most genuine smile. Pointing up at the sky. The moon and the stars were shining bright. He didn't need any other light source to see her beautiful face.
Just the two of them sitting at the balcony of their shared house. Silently observing the beauty of the night. Drinking from his glass, the sweet-bitter taste was dancing on his tongue. It was as beautiful as the woman he was spending the time with.
"You know, you are really beautiful tonight, y/n. How about I take a day off tomorrow just to spend it with you?"
No answer.
"We could go on a walk around the city or perhaps go outside the city's walls?"
Yet again, silence.
Kaeya finished his glass with one quick motion. Pouring more wine. The burning sensation in his throat was slowly reminding him something.
"Hey, Dearest. Why don't you talk to me?"
Silence.
"Ah, you are right. I'm... a fool."
He starts laughing. It's not a laugh a happy man would have, it's quite the opposite. Kaeya's in pain. His chest hurts, he knows why but dares not to admit it.
Removing his eye patch and tossing it on the table. Looking at his smiling companion. Why is she so beautiful? He is such a lucky man, having somebody like that. So why is he feeling this pain in his chest? Why does he feel like his heart will burst?
The glass with wine shatters. The shards are covered in the red liquid. He closes his eyes. Trying to force the tears to stop forming. Biting his lips. It hurts so much. His hazy memories are slowly reminding him what's going on.
Just like a movie it all flashes back in the moment you were standing between him and the enemy. Blocking the hit for him. Falling to ground with a painful scream. But before that you managed to look at your beloved. He is safe, you did well.
He stares in horror at the scene. Wishing it's just a bad horror he is watching. This can't be happening. You didn't waste your life for him, did you? If there was somebody supposed to die it's him. He made a mistake. A mistake which cost him you.
Kaeya is silently sobbing, one hand hiding his face while the other is gripping his attire at chest area. He is sure nobody can see him, yet he still feels like to hide. He might be drunk but he knows the woman next to him is just an illusion created by his own mind. There's nobody at all it's just him and the wine.
You are no longer alive. It's all because of him being cocky that day. He was full of himself and so sure he will keep you safe. In the end he lost his remaining pride and you...

Diluc is walking in circles. Biting his thumb while doing so. It hurts, he can taste blood but nothing hurts more than his heart right now. Sweat is forming on his forehead as he is trying to suppress his tears. His shoes are making loud thumbs against the wooden floor. The sounds can be heard in the room under his.
Everyone is silent in the room. Elzer, Adelinde, the old man Tunner and a few more. Listening to noises from Master Diluc's room, yet nobody dares to let him know he is loud. It would be more than rude. Especially now when he has to deal with yet another painful experience.
First he lost his father and several years later he lost his wife. He was finally happy. Having you by his side was a blessing. You were there for him whenever he needed and he did the same for you. Feeling down? He'd be there cupping your face, planting butterfly kisses on your face. Snuggling you close into a protective embrace.
You did something similar. Playing with his hair when he was snuggled to your neck. Brushing through them, tucking them behind his ear. Saying soothing words. He would fall asleep like that.
But now? You are gone. Your sudden passing away affected the whole manor. You were liked among the maids as you often joined in small talk or offered to help them. Despite their protests it's their job. You didn't mind it.
Old Tunner and folks from vineyards remember how you often walked around. Caressing the grapes or bringing some snack.
Simply put. You were the star which was shining bright for everyone. Lifting their spirits and now you are gone. Everyone is mourning you but none can think of how much he is hurt.
When Diluc heard about your critical condition he rushed to see you but doctors didn't let him. You needed to rest but your body was weak, they knew you won't make it. In the end allowing him to see you for the last time. Holding your already cold hand.
He sat there for minutes, until you left him all alone. He didn't move, doctors had to lead him out. Somebody had to pick him up and bring home. He laid on the bed, one hand over his face. Trying to keep his tears away.
Nobody dared to knock on the door. Not even Elzer who always worried about his young Master. Trying to offer some kind words. He knew his words would be useless now. All he can do is just wait. He knows if he goes his Master will be out of control and won't listen to anything.
It's just another painful hit for Master Diluc. He thought he would be happy finally. Already had plans for the future with you. Everything is pointless now. Why does life keep taking his beloved ones from him? How much more he has to suffer…

Xiao is silently sitting at the top of Wangshu Inn. The cold wind is caressing his hair. He is observing the distant horizon, how the moon is slowly going up. His mind is blank. If he were a mortal it would be probably clouded by negative thoughts.
He has no feelings or need for them. He is one of the mighty Adepti, there's no room for stupid things like feelings or emotions. At least that's what he tries to keep repeating to himself.
Mortals come and leave out of his life. Which is only natural for their short life span. He wouldn't be bothered with it at all. But there was a woman who managed to change him. Showed him what those odd feelings in his chest are. She proved to him he has feelings and emotions. He was just suppressing them his whole life.
Perhaps it was all for the better. He feels lonely. Usually it would be the two of you sitting here. You would be nudging him about random things. Snuggle onto his shoulder, whispering some nonsense. He would look at you and see those shiny, beautiful eyes of yours.
He remembers when you fed him with his favorite dish. He was confused at first why would you do it. Explaining to him it's something people in love would do for their partner. Take care of them. He tried to feed you too, it was a clumsy attempt. But you appreciated his efforts.
You showed him so many nice things he could see only from mortal's eyes. He understands some things he couldn't before. All because of you. But what's this feeling? Regret? No. He does not regret letting you enter his life. He regrets being too late.
Before he could do something you were already gone. The demon which attacked you. That sneaky bastard avoiding his watchful gaze. It dared to assault somebody he thought of as a close person. Taking you from him just as if bonds are nothing.
When he arrived you were possessed by the demon. Its power went out of control, destroying everything around. He tried to talk to you but there was nothing left, just agony and darkness. He could see the suffering in your face. You didn't want to. You never were a violent person, yet now you are destroying everything.
For the first time in his life Xiao felt anger was taking control over him. He wanted to eradicate all demons. For what they did all those millennials, for what they did just right now. He knew you will eventually die and leave him, he was fine with that. But he never thought of losing you like this.
He has to do his duty as a Yaksha, the Liyue's protector. Pointing the tip of his spear at your throat. He stopped only because you tried to talk. The words coming out of your lips were just gibberish.
"Farewell, y/n. I'm sorry."
Ending it just like that. Watching how the blood was leaving your body. Feeling sick from the sight of it. He released you from the agony the demon was causing you. Banishing it as it tried to escape from your dying body. There's no demon safe, not from Xiao. He will continue his duty.
But one thing is certain. He will always feel lonely at night as he got used to your presence. You will remain in his heart forever. Always will have that special place as a foolish but lovely mortal, daring to approach him despite all of his fame as a Yaksha. The cold he feels right now bothers him. Just if you could be there...

[Prinxiety] Is It Possible
Title: Is It Possible Ship: Prinxiety Warnings: Uh... just angel and demon mention. Fangs/sharp teeth mention. Words: 2,932 Request: So, this was the second request that I chose:  Prinxiety but they're an angel and demon who just can't stop running into each other, and lowkey don't want to stop? This was also sent in by an anon.
Summary: Virgil is an angel who has become alarmingly close with the one being he has no business being close with. Roman, the demon, on the other hand believes alarmingly close is just what they need to be.
Read on AO3
-----------------------------------------------
Virgil wasn't in existence for The Beginning... but it was close. Never ask an angel how long they've been around. At best, like Virgil, that's way too much math and there are far better things to do. At worst... well, as far as Virgil had been told, those people are never heard from again. While Angels were supposed good and pure and faultless—blah blah blah—he'd dated a couple and knew better. Heh. Boy did he know better.
 Anyway.
The point was, Virgil had been around for a very long time and he had never, ever met anyone as exhausting and irritating as Roman.
“Aww, did you miss me, angel?”
Virgil rolled his eyes, ignoring the heat that rose up the back of his neck.
“Right. Me, a lowly angel, missing the Prince of Darkness. I don’t think so.”
 Roman—a demon—actually pouted.
Virgil sensed the other behind him but when the demon wrapped his arms—and tail—around him, Virgil just sighed and pressed back into the touch.
Their...relationship...was a complicated one, to say the very least.
“Don’t think you can try to distract me, Roman,” he said, turning around in his arms even as he said it. Unfortunately, as he was supposed to be watching over Remy, ready at a moment’s notice to guide the barista toward goodness, he was not doing a very good job at not being distracted.
“Darling. I’m a demon. Distraction is inevitable. I’d be happy to give you a demon-stration.”
Virgil actually snorted at that. He couldn’t help it. Ever since he’d become best friends with the human Patton, one that he had saved from Roman’s temptation, Virgil had become a sucker for puns. Roman seemed proud of himself.
Suddenly, his expression became sincere. Soft.
“I know we’re supposed to hate each other, kitten, but I don’t—”
 “Roman, stop.”
 “—hate you, Virgil.”
Virgil grumbled under his breath. Here it came.
 “I love you, kitten.”
It wouldn’t be the first, or the last, time he’d said those words to Virgil.
 »»———— ☠ ————««
Virgil thought back to the first time Roman had said those three little words.
He couldn’t recall the year—that was thousands upon thousands of lifetimes ago—but he could remember the day just like it was yesterday.
Roman had just beaten Virgil, tempting the human that they were both trying to win for their respectful bosses.
“Stop gloating,” Virgil muttered but he allowed a little sort at the victory dance the demon was currently doing.
“I’m afraid I cannot do that, Virgil.” He grinned happily, sun glinting off his canines.
 “You are very annoying.”
“You know that you like me,” Roman teased, his voice sounding melodic as he spoke. Virgil’s eyes widened, his neck growing hotter and hotter.
 “I do not!”
“You do too—wait! Are you… are you blushing, angel?”
Virgil groaned and threw his hands in the air. Of all the lifetimes he had known Roman, he couldn’t understand for the existence of him why he continued to be his friend.
Rather close friend, truth be told.
“Just… go back to your victory!
“What—oh right! Haha! I am the victor!”
Thank God Roman had a one track mind where victory was concerned. He watched the other and snorted as a soft smile slowly slipped onto his face. Virgil rolled his eyes at the other’s continued antics but the grin did not leave his face.
“Aw! Look… what kind of expression is that? Does… does somebody have a crush?”
He was once again saying the words as if they were a little lighthearted song. Virgil tensed slightly as the other closed the distance between them, watching his every move. Once the demon reached him, however, it was with a sincere and warm gaze that Roman regarded him.
Though he had known Roman long enough to know he had moments of sincerity, he couldn’t come up with one good reason why Roman would look at him with such warmth.
“We’ve been at this for how long now, sweetheart?”
Virgil didn’t know why but he didn’t have a good feeling about this.
 “Stop,” he bristled.
“Stop what, Virgil? I’m only pointing out the facts… Something I learned from Logan—you know, the human I stole from you.”
Even when he was trying to be sentimental, he still had to go and rub it in.
 That was so like Roman.
What Roman was saying, however, was true. They had been at this odd friendship-rivalry for a very long time.
He also, maybe, was correct about Virgil having a crush on him.
Virgil didn’t have to admit it though!
Not to himself, and sure as hell not to Roman.
“I don’t have a clue what you’re going on about, demon!”
The blush that was currently inching up the back of his neck was completely ignored in favor of scowling at the demon.
“Uh huh,” Roman said, not sounding convinced in the slightest.
Virgil couldn’t really blame him but Virgil had always been difficult like that.
“Darling, we’ve been rivals, and friends, for thousands of years and for at least a couple of those thousand, we’ve been dancing around this thing between us.”
“Thing?” Virgil asked incredulously. “We do not have a thing Roman.”
 But… perhaps they did.
Still. Roman was a demon and Virgil was an angel.
It just wouldn’t—couldn’t—work. And Virgil, ever one to guard his heart, was not about to take a chance on something that had no hope of ever working out.
“Virgil,” Roman began, sounding sad. He moved to stand right in front of him.
Virgil was sure he should move away but, he was a little ashamed to admit, he just didn’t want to.
Looking down at the shorter being, Virgil sighed as he caught the adoration and affection in those golden eyes.
“Roman,” Virgil said, his tone defensive.
“Virgil… I’m certain I’m in love with you.”
 God damn it.
 “Why?”
Roman looked confused and perhaps a little affronted.
 “What do you mean ‘why’?”
“I mean that exactly, Roman. Why? Why, why, why, why?”
Virgil moved away from the other as he started to pace back and forth.
“You are a demon. I am an angel. Roman—it’s impossible.”
 “I like a challenge…”
“There is no challenge here. There is no anything! We are supposed to be enemies! Why can you not get that?”
Roman smiled a soft, sad smile.
“You’ll never be an enemy to me, sweetheart.”
Virgil blushed and gestured wildly with his hands.
“Stop!” His pacing interrupted, Virgil put his face into his hands and groaned.
Roman closed the distance between once more.
“Virgil, I am going to embrace you.”
Roman gave the angel time to move away if he wished before pulling Virgil into his arms. Virgil tensed at first but made no motion to pull away. Eventually, he closed his eyes and leaned into the embrace.
“It’s okay, sweetheart. I love you and I’ve got all the time in existence for you to realize that we are simply meant to be.”
“You simple minded fool…” Virgil grumbled but it was with a shaky breath that he gazed down at the other.
“I am far from simple, my dearest angel.”
That was God’s Honest truth too. Roman was most eccentric.
 “Yeah, yeah.”
Roman chuckled deeply before pulling away just enough to take Virgil’s hand and bow over it, kissing the back of his hand as he looked up at him from beneath long dark lashes. Heart thumping heavily against his chest, Virgil quickly pulled his hand away before flailing his hands wildly once more.
There were quite a few times after that, but each one was met with Virgil’s dismissal. Confessions brushed off and pretended they didn’t make his heart stir. Denying what he wanted. It just never seemed like the right time.
Then again, in Virgil’s mind, no time would ever be right.
The next time Virgil could recall in complete detail was nine hundred years, give or take a couple hundred, after the first.
Virgil snorted as Roman growled the moment the human they’d both been watching over made the decision to stay on the straight and narrow. His lip curled slightly, showing off twin sharp fangs, making the demon’s displeasure clear as glass.
“What’s wrong, Roman?” Virgil teased with a smirk. “Can’t take the heat? Get out of hell.”
Roman made a face and proceeded to actually stick his tongue out.
 “Rude.”
Roman pouted but comfortable silence soon fell between them as they watched the human. Virgil was enjoying the moment but soon tensed. Companionable silence usually led to one thing.
 “Virgil…”
The demon’s voice was soft, warm, and gentle. It warmed him completely and when the other pulled him into a firm embrace, Virgil allowed it.
“Roman,” Virgil said after some time, his voice quiet and a little shaky.
 “Yes, dear angel?”
 “We… we can’t.”
 “Why not?”
“You are a demon and I am an angel.”
 “Very observant, my dear.”
 “Fool.”
 “Only a fool in love.”
“Oh my God, you are so infuriating.”
Roman pouted at that but sighed and squeezed Virgil a little tighter. The angel gave a start as Roman’s tail curled around his leg but settled into the embrace once more, sighing.
“All of your flirtation and embraces are not going to change the face that we are an angel and a demon, Roman. Nothing can change that.”
“Who says anything needs to change? You being an angel is one of the many things I love about you, angel.”
“Don’t use that word!” Virgil hissed, pressing his face into the other’s neck, blushing deeply.
A deep chuckle left the demon, Virgil feeling the rumble of it against his body with how closely Roman held him.
 “Which word? Change? Angel?”
Virgil pulled back to glower down at the demon.
 “You know which word!”
“Mmm… I don’t think I do. I’ve said so many words. It really could be any one of them.”
 Virgil growled.
 “Stop saying ‘love’!”
 “Oh! That word!”
“You knew very well I meant that word.”
“Maybe… but I wanted to hear you say it.”
Virgil grumbled again, ignoring the heat flooding his face.
 “You fiend.”
Roman laughed heartily at that. A moment later, Roman pulled back to reach up, taking Virgil’s face into his hands.
“You know what comes next, angel.” He was right. Virgil new damn well what was coming next.
 God damn him.
 “I love you, Virgil.”
 Virgil sighed heavily.
 “I really wish you wouldn’t.”
 “Now, that’s not true.”
It really wasn’t but Roman definitely did not need to be privy to that information.
“I’m going to kiss you now.”
Roman didn’t move to kiss him right away. Virgil assumed it was to give him time to move out of his embrace if he did not wish for the demon to kiss him. Yet, though Virgil knew he needed to leave right then, the angel just couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Roman smiled, pressing closer to the other as he leaned up, closing his eyes as he covered Virgil’s mouth with his own. Virgil couldn’t deny, even to himself, that he felt the intense spark in that kiss. He could, however, deny, to everyone for all of time that he most definitely kissed the demon back.
 Especially to himself.
There were many similar encounters that followed after that day. There were fleeting touches and longing kisses but Virgil could never bring himself to give into Roman’s offer completely. He had come close a handful of times but the closest had been in the Roaring Twenties when the angel and demon had finally gone state-side.
“Hello, angel~” A voice purred in his ear.
Arms wrapped around him and Virgil pressed back into his embrace.
“Hello, fiend.” It was said with, perhaps, a little less grumbling than was normal.
 “Mmm.”
Roman nuzzled into Virgil from behind, brushing his nose along the other’s neck and making him shiver.
“Nice to not be against each other… for once.”
“Just because we have different charges, Roman, does not mean we aren’t against each other.”
“You know what I mean, kitten.”
Virgil sighed. Roman wasn’t wrong. He knew exactly what Roman meant but everything with him was all so confusing and complicated that he just didn’t want to deal with it.
So he turned around in the other’s embrace, looking down at him with determination.
“Just shut up and kiss me, fiend.”
If Roman was surprised by his request—okay, order—he didn’t show it. Instead, the demon smiled at him, love and adoration clear in his golden gaze.
 “Anything for you, angel.”
Roman reached up and held his face like he had so many times before. Virgil melted into the demon as the other kissed him deeply. If a soft, content sound escaped him as he wrapped his arms around the demon, Virgil would never admit it.
The most recent time had been a week ago. Both of them had been assigned to the same human—a young barista named Remy—and Virgil had definitely had his work cut out from him.
“Oooh~ I’ve got this one in the bag!”
Virgil rolled his eyes but had nothing to say. Roman was correct. In fact, even though Remy seemed like a good person, he would definitely fit in more with Roman’s crowd.
Roman grinned, flashing his sharp canines.
Virgil quickly looked away, ignoring the heat rising up the back of his neck and the way his heart began to beat rapidly in his chest.
 God damned human disguise.
 God damned Roman.
“What is that look for, angel?”
Virgil startled slightly to find the demon so much closer suddenly.
 “You freaking ninja, GOD!”
Roman laughed at that, flashing his fangs once more.
Virgil really wished Roman would stop doing that! In what millennium had he started to find those nasty things adorable?
“Why the hell don’t you wear a human disguise?”
Roman blinked. He then grinned slowly.
 God damn blush.
“Because no human form could ever compare to all of this.”
Then, because he obviously had it out for the angel, Roman proceeded to gesture at all of himself while shimmying.
Virgil scoffed but it was weak and the blush coloring his face a pretty magenta told another story.
 “Aww! So you do agree!”
 “Shut up, you!”
“Nope!” Roman chirped, popping the end of the word as he flashed his sharp canines once more.
Virgil covered his face with his hands and groaned.
 “So cute!”
“I am not cute!” Virgil growled but allowed the demon to pull him into a hug.
“Okay, okay. Put your claws away, kitten.”
Virgil grumbled but leaned into Roman’s embrace with a content sigh.
If only the demon could leave well enough alone for once. This was Roman he was talking about, however, so that was impossible.
As if to prove Virgil right, Roman pulled away, causing Virgil to look down at him in surprise. The smile Roman regarded him with was softer and more sincere than Virgil had ever remembered seeing it. He tensed before relaxing once more, knowing what was coming and knowing, by now, there was no way to stop it.
Also, there was a part of him—a very small but extremely stubborn part—that didn’t want to stop it.
 “I love you, angel.”
 Virgil sighed heavily, nodding.
“Yeah…” he muttered. “I know, fiend. You never give me enough milleniums to forget.”
Roman chuckled at that before taking his face into both hands and kissing him soundly.
Virgil was more than happy to give into his kisses in favor of stopping any further discussions on love.
 »»———— ☠ ————««
Which brought them back to the present and Roman, once again, professing his love for the angel.
Virgil’s heart was beating rapidly against his chest and warmth settled over him. Roman’s words and actions had had that effect on him for a very long time.
There was, however, a small but very significant difference.
For the first time since Roman had first confessed his love, Virgil felt that—perhaps—he could take a chance.
Then there was the sudden realization that he was wholly and unreservedly in love with Roman.
“I… I love you too…” Virgil said slowly, watching the other closely.
Roman’s head snapped up so fast Virgil felt bad for his neck. He didn’t have long to pity his neck, however, as golden eyes grew wide with wonder.
 “Kitten… did you just—”
“Yes, fiend! I finally said it! I love you! Are you happy now?”
Roman smiled brightly, his gaze wet and filled with adoration and happiness.
 “Very, angel. Oh so very!”
Virgil sighed but smiled warmly at the demon. Shaking slightly out of nerves and the raw intensity of the moment, Virgil reached out to take Roman’s face into his hands. Brushing the other’s cheeks with his thumbs, Virgil held the other’s gaze. As if controlled by some unseen force, Virgil leaned in and kissed Roman softly—tentatively—upon his mouth.
Roman sighed into the kiss, the sound a little shaky. Virgil quickly pulled back, looking down at the other with concern.
 “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, angel. Just… just so happy.”
He looked it too, beaming up at him and regarding him with so much love that it was almost disconcerting.
“Fiend,” Virgil said softly with affection evident in his tone. Roman chuckled softly.
 “Angel.”
Virgil surged forward, kissing Roman firmly on the mouth. When his demon immediately deepened the kiss, Virgil reciprocated quite happily.
It was as the two kissed, the world continuing all around them, that Virgil had an epiphany.
Maybe, just maybe, a demon and angel falling in love wasn’t impossible after all.

seconds, hours, minutes, days | kenma k.
pairing: kenma kozume x gn!reader  word count, genre: 2.2k words, fluff, university au, strangers to friends to lovers.  summary: love is nothing more than just a fleeting feeling. until he meets you and suddenly, he finds himself looking forward to every moment he can spend with you.  press play: blueming by iu, leo by bol4 ft. baekhyun
Tumblr media
The door to the cafe opens, the addicting aroma of coffee beans travels through the air and greets Kenma when he steps inside. He scans the room, finding the familiar figure of his longtime friend who was currently chatting the barista by the counter. He’s walking towards Kuroo and he could already hear excited laughter coming from the front.
When he enters the scene, the stranger directs their friendly gaze to him and the second that their eyes meet, Kenma feels he’s in the middle of a meet-cute of some romcom movie.
The first thing he notices is the way your eyes crinkle when you smile, the corners of your mouth turning upwards as you greet him. He hears your voice, but he couldn’t make out what you were saying—as if he was entranced by a spell, too busy to pay attention to anything else and finding it all too easy to become drawn to your aura.
Kuroo watches it all unfold before him: his best friend who was too stunned to do or say anything, and his other friend, you, who was too clueless to figure out their effect on him. He chuckles before putting his arm around Kenma, steering the situation to introduce you two to each other. Something about you was captivating and Kenma knows he’d be lying if he said that he wasn’t already bewitched by you.
As he stood in line with Kuroo, who was ordering the drinks they’d need for an all-nighter, his mind is occupied—thinking about how of all the things he’d expected to happen when he agreed to help out for a project, falling in love at first sight wasn’t on the list. You left a strong impression on him, and Kenma knows he wouldn’t be able to stop thinking of you in the days to come.
He encounters you for the second time when he attends a party organized by Kuroo’s college org. This wasn’t his usual scene, on a typical weekend, he’d much rather stay at home and catch up with either his studies and papers or his games. As he’s standing in the middle of the room, surrounded by loud and drunk college students, he considers going back to his dorm.
But the moment that he’s about to leave, he hears a familiar voice.
He stops in his tracks, because there you were—so full of life, so mesmerizing standing surrounded by different people. He could see a spotlight shining down on you, naturally attracting the attention of everyone in the room. He’s sure that this was the reason Kuroo had been persistent on getting him to go to the party (the boy spent days on end pestering him about it to the point that he had no other choice but to say yes).
Eventually, Kuroo finds him and they go around, with the former introducing Kenma to his classmates and acquaintances. The night draws on, and some time past midnight, he rests on the available seat on the couch. He takes deep breaths to calm himself before he spots your presence again in the corner of the room. It doesn’t surprise him that you were still full of energy and stories to tell your friends.
What surprises him is when your eyes meet his. His heart skips a beat when he sees that look of recognition and that knowing smile on your face. He watches as you apologize and leave the group, steadily making your way towards him and taking the empty space beside him.
You beam at him, “Hey.”
“Hello.”
“I remember you.” He watches you take a swig of the drink in your hand. “You’re Kuroo’s best friend, right?”
“Yeah. I’m surprised you do.”
“Who wouldn’t? I think you’re cute.”  Kenma was flustered. Your words sending his mind into a spiral, struggling to form a coherent reply to your straightforward statement.
“I didn’t think I’d see you here. Figured this,” you wave your hands in the air exaggeratedly. “…might not be your cup of tea.”
“Well, I had no choice.”
“Oh, yeah? Tell me about it.” You scoot closer to him, knees almost touching at the reduced space between you two. “I want to get to know you, Kenma.”
Kenma couldn’t find it in himself to say no. And before he knew it, he’s openly sharing bits and pieces of his life. You ask him about his past with Kuroo and he’s eagerly taking you to a flashback of his childhood, narrating embarrassing moments (mostly of Kuroo) and he feels happy whenever you found it amusing.
You ask him about his interests, his hobbies, his pet peeves; he learns about you, the charming barista from the 24-hour cafe, a business management student who has too much bills and college loans to pay.
Every minute that passes, every minute he enjoys himself in your presence—with you, making him laugh like he had never before, lighting a spark in his heart and sending the butterflies in his stomach fluttering about, he finds himself falling head over heels for you.
For the weeks that passed after the party, people started noticing the two of you getting closer. The pair of you were inseparable. In breaks and lunches when it was only him and Kuroo, along with few of their friends, you’ve managed to sneak yourself in their social group, earning a permanent spot in their table right beside Kenma.
And often, the others would observe how his attention would solely be on you whenever you were present. It was a mystery to them, but also a source of amusement, how Kenma would become a different person—breaking out of his shell as he became more talkative and more teasing, exchanging playful banters from time to time.
But at the same time, there was something painful about watching the two of you as they become witnesses to the coming-to-life of a slow-burn romance.
And neither of you was admitting it: the push and pull, the undeniable tension that existed whenever the two of you were in the same room. The force of attraction was clear, and everyone had been wondering why neither you nor Kenma were making a move.
That all came to a head on a weekend when you visited him at his dorm.
“What are you doing here?” Kenma opens the door wider, giving you space to easily slip in his living area. His eyes follow you like a hawk as you settle your things on his floor, going from room to room and finally sitting down on his couch. You look at him excitedly, grinning from ear to ear as you wave him over to sit beside you.
“Movie night!” Kenma watches as you take out your laptop and a bag of his favorite snacks. “There’s a new crime thriller on Netflix and I figured we can binge it together.”
He throws you an incredulous look, “It’s 8 P.M. Shouldn’t you be at your dorms right now? Did you forget the curfew?”
“Oh, screw that!” You open the Macbook and place it on his center table. You cuddle to his side and Kenma instinctively adjusts, making you comfortable. He grabs the blanket that he’d taken out before you arrived and drapes it over the two of you. He studies you as you navigate the web, logging in to Netflix and pulling up the show you’ll watch for tonight.
“I can’t believe you would just appear in front of my doorstep and force me to watch this with you.”
You look at him playfully, “Don’t be such a killjoy.” Your gaze on him lingers for a second longer, the atmosphere shifting to something more intimate.
He clears his throat, quickly bringing his attention on the laptop screen. “Stop. Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Kenma.”
He tries his best to focus on the show. But he couldn’t, not when he feels your soft hand cupping his face, turning him so you could get a good look at him.
“I like you.”
His mind goes blank, but one thing was certain: he was elated, and his heart was currently doing a somersault inside him. So, when he tries to reply, all he could give was a shy smile and an, “Okay.”
And that was enough. Because for the time that you’ve known Kenma, you’ve learned that he has always preferred actions over words.
You hum and wrap your arms around him. He reciprocates by pulling you closer to him, until all you could hear was the erratic beating of his heart drowning out the loud sounds from the show.
The hours flew by just like that. It doesn’t occur that the both of you have fallen sound asleep, leaving the laptop on. When Kenma awakens, the words Are you still watching? are now flashing on the screen. He feels something heavy on top of him and his eyes drop to your figure laying on his body. He feels overwhelmed with contentedness at the moment.
Maybe your barging in his door and inviting him to watch Netflix wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
If somebody were to ask Kenma when he had been the happiest in his life, he’d gladly say it was every second, minute, and hour that he has spent by your side. The boy couldn’t ask for a more fun, supportive, and kind-hearted partner when he already has you. You have given him so much, made him feel so loved and special, that he often asks himself if there was anything he could do to repay you.
The past few months with you has been nothing short of amazing, with every single day feeling like literal heaven in your presence. And now, he’s counting down the days to your birthday which coincidentally also marks the six months of his relationship with you. It was on this special day that Kenma decides to surprise you.
One of the things that you and Kenma have in common is how you both prefer the simple things. Where others favored to go outside for dates, sleepovers and movie nights in either his or your dorm has always been the norm in the relationship. You also didn’t mind small gifts, not one for flowers and plushies, as you always told him that it is the thought that matters the most.
And he thinks about it now as he’s standing outside the same cafe where his paths crossed and connected with yours for the first time.
He goes over his plan one more time when the automatic door slides open, and he goes inside. He finds you entertaining a customer, and he admires how hardworking you have always been. He joins the queue, nerves flying through the roof as he patiently waits to reach the front of the line.
“Kenma!” A look of genuine surprise takes over you when you finally see him. “What are you doing here?”
He does something you never thought he’d do: placing his hands on the counter, he leans and plants a soft kiss on your lips.
“I love you,” he says out of the blue and it sends your mind in a frenzy, your heart fluttering. His words don’t even register anymore when he says his order and tells you, “Your shift ends in ten, right? I’ll wait for you and we can get something to celebrate your birthday.”
Kenma keeps his gaze at you as he waits for your shift to end. He sighs of relief when he sees you come out of the staff room and meets you halfway. He intertwines his hands with yours and guides you out of the shop. The sun is setting coloring the streets in red orange hues and everything right now looks like a painting.
You walk in silence, stopping by your favorite Chinese takeout shop to buy something to eat when you arrive at his dorm. He orders for the both of you, and when he’s done, you pull him to the side and finally ask the question that has been bugging you.
“You said you loved me back there, right?
He chuckles, “Yeah, I did.” Kenma tugs you closer, arms encircling your waist and resting his head on your shoulders. “Should I have not said it?”
“I was just surprised.”
“It’s nothing to be surprised for.” He leans to your ear and his voice low when he whispers, “I just said the truth. I have been falling in love with you since the first day we met.”
You feel warm when you realize that Kenma beat you to saying those three magical words in the relationship. But it was another thing when he reveals to you how he’s been taken with you since your first meeting. And right now, all you could do was to thank your lucky stars for bringing you to him.
You look at him, reaching a hand to outline his features before returning his kiss with one of your own.
“Thank you. And I love you too, more than you’ll ever know.”
At your words, Kenma falls for you over again and he decides he wouldn’t mind spending more seconds, hours, minutes, and days with you.

lion primary (bird model) + slightly burnt lion secondary
Hi there! I’m a fan of your sorting posts, and of your kind and insightful way of supporting people in finding out more about themselves. So naturally I’d be very interested in your take about my own sorting, if you’re game! :)
I won’t talk much about my Secondary, because now that I’m starting to unburn my Lion seems very clear to me, even when my explosion-prone Badger model still tries to get in the way of that clarity sometimes. The more interesting riddle is my Primary. So far I’m operating under the working theory that I am a Lion with a very strong Bird model - or is it the other way ‘round?
The supposed dichotomy between “thinking” and “feeling” in many of the more binary personality models has always bugged me, so it’s no wonder this is the area where whenever I feel like I’ve decided on who I am (for now) a new question mark pops up (so much fun!).
If ‘thinking’ and ‘feeling’ doesn’t work for you as terminology, it might help to think of Lion as leading with subconscious reasoning, and Bird as leading with conscious reasoning.
Instead of trying to formulate a cohesive text, which would have gotten even longer, I’m putting together an associative list of thoughts and stories that kept turning up while I was trying to figure out my Primary.
A very Lion primary way to solve a problem, not gonna lie ;)
- I think I got my Bird model from my father, who made quite an effort to teach me to look at things from all angles. As a child, whenever I got in a fight with this friend I had, he would sit me down and ask me to put myself in my friend’s shoes. It was hard, because a lot of the time my friend was being unfair to me and I actually could have used some support, someone to tell me that it was not okay to treat me this way. But I’m still immeasurably grateful for my father’s lessons, through which I’ve learned to understand peoples’ motivations and gained an understanding for the complexities of every conflict. He also taught me to doubt, to look closer, to not just believe the first thing I see, or want to see. To this day I still consider my ability to pin down the relevant factors of a situation before I make judgments one of my strengths.
That definitely sounds like a very strong, beloved Bird model.
- Whenever I had to write an essay at school or uni, I first had to come up with some aspect about the subject that I really cared about, even could be passionate about. (I am passionate about many things, so it was usually possible to find some connection to that.) Then I would use the essay to discuss this aspect in great detail, ending with a polemic flourish. I had the time of my life doing that; meanwhile the text would structure itself magically in relation to the issue I had chosen to focus on. Whenever I tried to write without such a focus, I’d get bored, stressed and the text would be of a much lower quality.
- Something similar happened in oral exams at uni: Only when I got the opportunity to bring a discussion paper (a few pointed statements regarding the exam topic) which I could then debate, I was able to recollect all the important details I needed for that. If I just had to report on the topic or answer questions, I often got confused, to the point of drawing a complete blank.
Linking things to emotion and passion - thinking with emotion and passion, basically - is a Lion primary thing. Especially if doing that makes you feel safe & comfortable & effective & happy.
- Even as a teenager I was very interested in philosophy, ethics and moral decision making.
I love teaching philosophy to teenagers. It’s the perfect time for it, they are so into it, and if it were up to me I would absolutely make it a required class.
I picked up certain philosophical ideas and concepts that I liked and integrated them in my belief system (yes, I know how very Bird that sounds).
I had my mind blown by Genealogy of Morals in high school, and I still won’t shut about Eichmann in Jerusalem. But what was so staggering to me in high school was… here are these ways of thinking that are possible and allowed. The fact that here they are in words in front of me made me a great deal more expansive.
Now that I think about it — I don’t remember adjusting my beliefs as in any way traumatic back then. The shift from a belief in the Christian God to Mother Goddess to my very own brand of agnostic paganism was smooth, natural.
Now that I think about it… I would describe myself as a mythic relativist (which is a term I just made up.) Systems of belief are metaphors, and they’re metaphors trying to describe and say something large and beautiful about what it means to be human, and what it means to live a good life. And since we are all human, they are all attempting to describe the same central, indescribable thing in different ways.
I feel this very deeply, but it took me a long while to be able to articulate it.
I constantly reevaluate, and I adapt.
You stop reevaluating and adapting, might as well be dead.
Still, there are some basics I’ve kept with me that just make too much sense to me to give up, and some that perhaps I keep because I just really like them and I’m kind of attached to them.
… somebody’s thinking with Pathos :)
- I’m a constructivist at heart, so that makes it much easier to tweak the content of my beliefs while staying true to the principle that we (socially) construct our reality, and (my take on this): that I choose what kind of world I want to live in, and according to that I make choices which are the most likely to create that world.
- At uni I attended a seminar about the development of moral judgment and action. What I remember most clearly about it is how much it bugged me that the other students didn’t seem to understand that morality always depends on the perspective. Even though I had definite moral convictions that I was ready to fight for, at the same time it seemed obvious to me that theoretically there could be a justification for every kind of moral guideline; it depended on your principles and the world you wanted to live in.
A human after my own heart.
I wanted to understand these different perspectives, not talk about empty categories like “right and wrong” or “good and evil” that meant nothing to me. I still feel that way.
Absolutely. I don’t use alignments when I DM Dungeons & Dragons. I mean, I can list evil *things* but that’s not the same thing as defining *being evil.* I want to know WHY these people did these evil things.
It just seems so impractical and complicated to base a conversation on those broad categories that don’t have any definition people can agree on instead of referring either to defined principles (in order to explain what good/ bad is *for you*) or consequences of certain actions, and whether you want them/ accept them/ don’t want them.
Oh that’s a fun discussion. Asking a highschooler to define “evil.”
(and then they have to figure out what moral systems Jigsaw, Pinhead, the Joker, and Bane all subscribe to.)
- Between “the Revolutionary” and “the Grail Knight”, I would love to be the former, but I’m clearly the latter. I’m someone who questions, not someone who knows.
Take my archetypes with a grain of salt, they are supposed to describe characters. (Who are different from people - but still useful, because they are attempts to describe us.) I actually want to write more about the differences I see between the way fictional secondaries are written and the way real-life secondaries work.
And just “knowing”... is dangerous. That’s how Exploded Lions happen.
There are a lot of causes I find worthy to fight for, but I haven’t committed to any one, which so far I’ve attributed to my Burned Secondary (How do I do things?).
Sounds about right.
If I’m honest, though, it feels a bit strange to really, really fight for anything. I’d rather contribute to the cause by keeping an eye on whether we stay aligned to our values on every level of the fight, not by storming sightlessly in front of some army. (I got polemic again, didn’t I? ;))
So after all this Bird talk, why do I think that I’m a Lion?
… that was the Bird segment?
- I trust my intuition. It has never steered me wrong, with one exception: My Primary burned for a time when I first understood the concept of privilege and internalized bias, which was coincidentally at a time when I also went through a lot of changes in my personal life. Like many people unaware of their own privilege, I had thought of myself as “one of the good ones”. I learned that even with the best intentions I could cause great harm without even noticing it. This then also happened to me in a relationship, when I was already confused, hurt and more than a bit burned. It seemed like I couldn’t trust my intuition anymore, but I also couldn’t figure out intellectually what to believe, because I felt mentally overwhelmed by all those new concepts, all of which put my previous convictions into question. Which Primary burned then?
Been there, done that, it’s brutal. It sounds to me like a Lion dramatically changing direction - that’s what I mean when I say that it *hurts* when a Lion changes their mind. Birds see their past selves that thought wrong as almost different people. “I wasn’t aware of my privilege then, now I am, and can take steps doing forward.” But if you’re a lion it’s like… I *should* have been aware, and the fact that I wasn’t says something terrible about my moral/emotional calibration, and THAT has to be put right.
- I felt like everything I had learned about the world and myself didn’t count anymore. My concepts and my strategies didn’t serve me anymore. So I started to rebuild everything from scratch, this time with less pride and more practicality.
Yeah. That’s some Lion recalibration. With a Bird Model, to help.
- Anyway, I trust my intuition. It contains my experiences, instinct and all my accumulated unconscious observations of the situation, and it’s very reliable. Usually I use it as an important source of information which I try to back up with data/ understanding, but when push came to shove and the apparent facts would contradict what my intuition told me, I would be unable to set my gut feeling aside. I wouldn’t follow it blindly, of course. But I would never just go against it either. If the voices of my unconscious and conscious mind don’t align, I keep poking at the issue until they do. If I absolutely cannot come to a satisfying conclusion, I go with my gut. Since I know it usually knows what it’s doing, I’ll find out the reasons for my feelings later. (Weird, says my inner bird who is busy compiling these examples.)
I’LL FIND THE REASON FOR MY FEELINGS LATER. What a perfect way of articulating what is perhaps the central experience of being a Lion primary.
- Probably I’m just both, you know. Some interesting lion/bird-chimaera. I like it.
I read you as a pretty clear Lion Primary, Bird primary model. But as always, the decision is very personal.
- I have a weird way of processing information: I read/ hear it, work to understand it, work to connect it to existing knowledge in my mind, then my beliefs, my existing knowledge and my feelings about it all wind around each other, grow into each other, some dissolve together, becoming a swamp which then nourishes the plants of new ideas and connections that grow from it.
You grok it. And that’s not weird.
I often can’t remember where certain knowledge came from. I can’t take it out of a memory shelf and tell you about it. I usually remember that I’ve read a certain book and whether I liked it / it influenced me, but I won’t exactly remember what was in it, even if it was important to me. Because all that information is already processed/ digested/ transformed into something new. It’s much easier to access my memory swamp intuitively than consciously.
and you seriously had like… any doubt that you were a Lion.
In intellectual discussions I tend to get stuck because I just can’t remember enough of the details (for my satisfaction), just my conclusions about the topic and how I feel about it.
I’m inclined to think that not accessing the details is either a secondary thing, or an entirely unrelated processing thing.
What do you make of all this? I’m very curious!
:)
[On an unrelated note, I’d like to specify the compliment I made at the beginning of this post. I’m really impressed with your ability to pick up on what people need, not just what they say they want. As a counselor this is a skill I try to hone, so I know how difficult it is to not get too distracted by the story people tell and miss the more subtle cues. You have a powerful combination of perceptiveness, insight and so much kindness, which you use to effectively support people who have questions, are in distress or confused. You don’t generalize. You don’t judge. You see the people who talk to you.  I love that you’re a teacher, because I can see you’re using the influence that gives you in a way that contributes to making the world a better place. Fellow Idealist, I’d like to give you a High Five for that, if I may. :)))]
I’m not sure I’ve ever been given a better compliment. Thank you.
