Avatar Legends TTRPG Start Set - Burning Fuse

Some info from the Burning Fuse adventure from the starter set:

"In the wake of the Earth Empire's thwarted siege, Republic City is struggling to rebuild and heal the scars of war. The inventor Juniper Kim once worked for the Earth Empire, but now she develops peacetime uses for Earth Empire weaponry and tech. Early yesterday morning, Juniper discovered the spirit energy canisters and weapons were missing from her lab. In the wrong hands, the canisters and weapons can be deadly, and to make matters worse, many of the canisters have the potential to cause a devasting explosion! Juniper called her friend Asami Sato to help deal with the press flooding the scene ... Can the companions recover the canisters before Republic City's fresh wounds open once more?"

"Asami met Juniper when she sought funding for a lab in Republic City. Asami saw that Juniper's willingness to make up for past misdeeds were genuine and the two became friends. When approached to help disarm the devices from Kuvira's mech, Asami put Juniper up for the job instead.."

The equalists are back with their new leader Yoshiro who has a prosthetic legs that were created by modifying Hiroshi Sato’s mecha tank designs. The equalists numbers have increased since Kuvira's attack on the city.

Another character in the adventure is Detective Jiang: a middle aged airbender cop who lost his husband and children during Kuvira's siege. He got airbending after Harmonic Convergence and tried studying at the Air Temple Island but he soon departed due to his temperament.

"The Peace Lily Society is a group of students and philosophers who formed after Kuvira's attack on the city. They oppose the user of technology and weapons invented through the oppression of the Earth Kingdom's people. The group is led by a former university lecturer named Metog, and they have been expanding their rhetoric to speak out against the dangers of spirit energy and Earth Empire technology."

The Auspicious Bear is a restaurant where students clubs meet - including the Peace Lilies. Supposedly, has an authentic statue of Bosco the bear.

The Lucky Cranefish Gambling House is "well-regarded as a place to see and be seen by some of the shadier citizens of Republic City and rebellious socialites alike." It has "something for everyone: gambling tables for high rollers and thrillseekers, fine dining (with separate booths), and even live music and dancing."

So I am running Avatar Legends for my usual group

And it is set after the events of Legend of Korra. An important piece of context that will be very valuable shortly is that I have never watched Avatar: The Last Airbender or Legend of Korra in its entirety. I've seen like, part of the secret tunnel episode. Regardless, my group wanted me to run it as their first non-D&D/OSR game, so I figured I could just read the wiki and make some setting changes, as the most important thing when running in an existing setting for your group is to make sure that everyone understands that it is your group's version of the setting so you don't spend hours arguing about canonicity.

Anyways, to establish that several years have passed since the Legend of Korra, I figured it would be easiest to show some of the younger characters to have entered into more authoritative positions while having the older characters move on. This is where I uttered the phrase that will forever live in infamy:

"So Tenzin is dead,"

I said, just figuring that well, he was pretty old and as such probably passed gently in his sleep. You know, a way to make it so I don't have to worry about an established character in our 20-years-later setting. He's probably having a nice memorial service or something.

This is where my group informs me of several important things:

Tenzin was like, 60 years old, tops

People in the ATLA universe routinely live to almost 100.

Apparently Fire Flakes can kill people (I'm not sure if they're pulling my leg on this one)

This not only derailed that session for half an hour, but is now brought up at least once a session. So now I have schrodinger's Tenzin, who may or may not have died from a reaction to Fire Flakes, and I now have to keep the group guessing until the last session as to whether or not Tenzin is actually dead.

We are all otherwise having a blast though! Minus weird stuff I don't know is wrong because, again, I never watched any of the show.

Since WotC have been pushing people away from DnD5E by shooting themselves in the foot, and people are looking for alternative table top games to play, might I be able to interest you all in Avatar Legends, the official Avatar The Last Airbender TTRPG? 

It’s a much more accesible game that uses a D6 system and focuses more on story telling and roleplay than DnD does and it’s been so much fun to play through.

I stream an actual play series of it on my YouTube channel if anyone is now interested enough to see how it’s played
