Ninjago Secrecy AU

So in this AU, it’s basically the same as canon, EXCEPT, the ninja stay secret.

it's not JUST their identities. It’s also their literal existence and history.

FSM didn’t want humans, who often misunderstood and killed Yōkai-kind, to know about the Elementals. So he kept himself secret, his two sons secret, and the people he’d later choose to become the first human-ish Elementals secret. Those people were street orphans and abused kids he’d rescued from other humans.

Elementals have basically been behind the scenes (and doing illegal stuff like underage driving) for several millennia, they’ve managed to keep secret all this time and continue to do so in this AU.

When something big comes, like the Great Devourer, the ninja fix it but there’s only eyewitnesses and no camera footage and most of the time they somehow aren’t seen by humans.

Or Jay causes a blackout to make things harder for them to be seen.

Oh, yeah. And Elementals aren’t sure if they’re Humans with powers, something between Yōkai and Humans, or just full-blown Yōkai.

They just don’t know, but they have the senses of Yōkai and they can see very well in the dark- they also have a keen sense of smell, they can follow trails. And their eyes glow, but they can control the glow when they need to. Among other things, like feeling vibrations.

Elementals also have feral instincts, though they can ignore those instincts and act human when the circumstances demand it. Lloyd, his father, and uncle all have Dragoni features like in my Headcanon #1, and they're the most feral.

If you saw my HC about the Elemental Bond, that applies here too.

The Elementals just tell people who ask that they’re a clan. They’re kind of common amongst the Realms, and to help the ninja, their clan is tiny, and sort of IS a clan, just a special one.

Said clans that do exist either live off the land or live modernly now but they all started back in old times, and they keep touch and all nowadays.

The Serpentine often receives a similar reception that Yōkai get, just less than that, so they don’t give the game up- they keep silent about the ninja.

After meeting the ninja, the Formlings, the Geckles and the Munce, and others were asked to and agreed to keep quiet about the Elementals. So does Vania, (idk how that part of Master of the Mountain works but yeah).

In the AU, other Yōkai, (Kitsune, Kappas, Tanukis, Bakenekos, ect.) are more apparent and present in this, and even most of them don’t know about the ninjas, just a few friends know.

The Elementals frequently attack and ambush Yōkai Hunters, and free the trapped Yōkai.

There’s also more mountains around the Monastery, it’s a literal mountain range, and many Yōkai live in them. Years ago they all combined their magic to create a barrier, so humans can’t get in (they just get turned around and all,) unless they’re led, and it's really hard for someone to just find their way in, but it happens occasionally.

IN THIS AU, THE SIX SEE EACH OTHER AS SIBLINGS, EXCEPT MAYBE JAY AND NYA, I CAN'T DECIDE.

Arin knows about the ninja ONLY because he’s from a village near the mountain of the Monastery, and his family is one of the few that the ninja trusted with the knowledge of their existence, because one of Arin’s ancestors, a few generations back, accidentally found a way into the mountains, and got caught in a storm, so the ninja of the time saved him.

Also all the Elementals speak Yōkai. It’s their second language, and their first language is Japanese, English is their third language.

Blue Eye Samurai characters as animals

First of all, let me just reassert my dog Taigen agenda.

Like I keep talking about it but this man really growls and barks like a dog, and yaps and follows Mizu around like a puppy.

I don't know much about dog breeds but my first thought was German Shepherd for Taigen. Typical guard dog you know? Fierce, aggressive, loyal, and very disciplined when trained.

Or maybe he'd be an Akita? Since that's a Japanese dog breed, and they're also large and powerful. They're quite similar to German Shepherds, not only in appearance, but they're also good as guard dogs and hunting dogs, though they're less predictable and not as family-friendly.

Also in Japanese folklore, dogs tend to be seen as auspicious guides and protectors that have the power to resist evil spirits and demons. Dog statues are often placed at city gates to ward off thieves and robbers. Ties back to guard dog behaviour lmao, and brings to mind how the Shogun praised Taigen's loyalty and specifically requested that Taigen be one of the people guarding him at his side.

Okay next, moving on, let's talk about cat Mizu, which I've also talked about before, but okay. Just look at this.

Neko Mizu my beloved.....!!! Scrunkly and scrungy. Graceful predators, introverted and mysterious, but feisty, unassuming little creatures of chaos. WILL scratch you without hesitation.

Also I think she'd specifically be a black cat, because of the prejudice towards black cats as "unlucky." Similar to how Mizu is discriminated against as people believe she's a "monster."

It's also interesting to note that cats have several different forms within Japanese folklore, from the deadly and malevolent nekomata, to shapeshifting bakeneko, to the waving figurine of the maneki-neko placed in shops to bring in prosperity. Some theorise that the diverse range of folklore stories regarding cats is related to how the species is not indigenous to Japan, which is also interesting when you recall that Mizu is mixed race.

I feel that she could honestly be any domestic black cat, but if I had to choose a specific breed, then I think she'd suit a Bombay. Very glossy black coats. Muscular but lean. Very panther-like. Only thing is that Bombays are known for their special copper eyes, but the fact that eye colour is a notable thing about their breed is also a very interesting parallel.

And I know I said in my previous post (linked above) that Ringo is the exhausted but loving caretaker of the two of them, but Ringo has an animal form too! He's a tanuki, also known as Japanese raccoon dogs! In folklore, they're silly little guys, happy and mischievous, a little absent-minded and goofy, but they're shapeshifting masters of disguise.

Also, in canon, Ringo literally lived with a family of tanuki during winter at some point in his life! He talks about this when he meets Mizu in the first episode. Image below is a concept of a deleted scene, courtesy of Brian Kesinger, the show's head of story.

Next, Akemi. Now, I know she has all that bird symbolism going on, but Mizu also had horse symbolism (due to her connection with her horse Kai). So, personality and design-wise, I don't think the symbolism has to necessarily match up. And with that said, I would like to propose another idea: I think Akemi is more like a fox!

Like I'm convinced she is in fact a beautiful kitsune in disguise. Because kitsunes in Japanese folklore are known to shapeshift into beautiful women, and are very elegant, cunning and intelligent, which seems a lot like Akemi to me!

So yeah that's it. They're a bunch of cute animals. The end.

Hunter Organization, RSA Branch, reporting in!

Cheka

Head of the RSA branch of the Hunter Organization.

Mixed blood, Koma Inu.

Partially raised by Leona, his uncle, as part of the Savanaclaw group for some time, then was taken in by the Hunter Organization after the reform.

The reform was a huge change in the organization headed by the current head of the organization and heavily aided by Leona, that ensured the organization would work harmoniously with youkai and raise mixed bloods accordingly.

Cheka is the ultimate example of a “mixed blood raised well”, as he has grown into a responsible and cheerful man, without signs of mental instability that’s so common in mixed bloods.

He gleefully credits this achievement to his “oji-tan”.

Older than the 1st year group (Ace, Deuce, etc.) and around the older end of the 2nd year group (Kalim, Azul, etc.)

Strongly resembles his father, but responds much more happily if you tell him he’s like his uncle instead.

Leona, before becoming a familiar, would routinely drop off mixed bloods he picked up at the Hunter Organization, using it as an opportunity/excuse to check up on Cheka.

As Cheka has been around the organization for a long time, his never-kicked-habit of calling Leona, “oji-tan”, has spread throughout the organization. Not to mention, a lot of mixed bloods were brought in by Leona, so Leona has become the organization’s universal “oji-tan”.

(Leona was sent an avalanche of congratulation gifts and letters when news got out that he became a familiar, courtesy of the organization kids.)

Cheka has an extraordinary amount of pride for his uncle and will talk your ear off about stories of Leona if you let him. He’d also like to hear your stories about Leona too!

As the head of the branch, Cheka directs his subordinates to handle cases assigned to them with compassion and understanding, resorting only to violence when needed. Why his branch was assigned to your area in particular... Orders from the higher-ups, he can only tell you.

While he’s not on his toes waiting to meet his Master, he’s excited to see what kind of person they’ll be... although, he probably won’t be able to spend a lot of time with them. Maybe that’s for the best?

In the organization, he works primarily as a leader and specializes in defense, as is his youkai nature. While his beast form isn’t as large as his uncle’s yet, he still cuts an intimidating figure in a fight.

(He’s also very fluffy. He’s very proud of how fluffy he is, so do give his fur a touch!)

Che’nya

Member of the RSA branch of the Hunter Organization.

Mixed blood, Bakeneko.

Lived at Heartslabyul during the reform and joined the Hunter Organization a little before Riddle became the head of the Heartslabyul temple.

Playful, mischievous, and mysterious, Che’nya has quite the reputation at the organization for being a bit of a trickster. As he joined the organization relatively late in his life, he still has a decent amount of instability in him.

Aware of this, he tends to stay away from others, besides the occasional surprise he does when he suddenly pops out of nowhere. He’s looking forward to meeting his Master, but he worries he won’t be able to communicate with them properly, with his personality as it is.

Frequently visits Heartslabyul during his freetime and enjoys surprising the younger youkai who don’t know about him yet, then getting scolded by Trey and Riddle.

In the organization, Che’nya specializes in information gathering and stealth operations. His behavior during combat is known for its potential to get progressively more aggressive the longer he’s in a fight, so he sometimes forcibly removes himself from combat out of the blue.

Neige

One of the younger members of the RSA branch of the Hunter Organization.

Human, onmyōji-in-training.

Born as a particularly beautiful child, he was offered as a sacrifice to the Queen of the Cliff to calm the supposed wrath that was pillaging his home at the time.

Vil, Queen of the Cliff, tried to return him a bunch of times but Neige got attached to him and kept coming back... so Vil very reluctantly raised/trained him for a while.

Became an onmyōji thanks to Vil’s training, taking an interest in shikigami specifically. He currently controls seven of them, all of which he has given individual names and colored ribbons. He thinks of them as friends and family, so he cherishes them greatly. (Neige privately thinks of Vil as family too, but he hasn’t told him that. Vil already knows.)

His shikigami originally had no personalities or life to them, only acting on his orders, but as Neige has gotten older and stronger, they’re started to develop their own identities. (Soon, they’ll become youkai, but they’re not quite there yet.)

Seeing he was pure of heart and eager to learn, Vil directed Neige to the Hunter Organization to develop his powers further under the tutelage of a shrine rather than just some youkai who lives alone on a cliff. Neige is now currently with the RSA branch after being roped into it by Cheka.

As Neige isn’t a mixed blood, he doesn’t have the sort of instability Che’nya does, but his past has left him a bit scarred, which tends to show up from time to time.

Otherwise, he’s a well-behaved, if a little air-headed, hunter. (He may or may not be crushing on you, a normal human sort of love, and it shows in how much he earnestly compliments you and seeks to “accidentally” run into you... not that he’ll say it directly, though! Charmingly clumsy, this boy.)

Being human, Neige isn’t one for combat, but instead specializes in negotiation. Vil has taught him how to best utilize his looks... and how to talk someone into during exactly what you want them to do.

Synopsis:

In alternative MK1 timeline/AU,Hanzo Hasashi is adopted son of Kuai Liang & Harumi while Tomas consider as his uncle.Before Hanzo was recruited into Shirai Ryu,Hanzo was a runaway teen because escaping from abusive family in modern area Osaka city to Osaka village.His dream to have a healthy family relationship shortlifted as Bi-Han ('long lost' uncle) & Lin Kuei followers massacred Shirai Ryu in Kuai Liang & Harumi's wedding ceremony.Hanzo survived because Kuai Liang asked him to get a ring that accidentally left in his master bedroom prior the incident.

Hanzo felt guilty and angered to himself because he failed to safe his family.He tried to revive their life by performing forbidden ninjutsu;Rinne Tensei but failed.Instead only person that revived was Tomas Vrbada (in Enenra form) . Hanzo in other hand became demi-Spectre & had a calico bakeneko (Devil cat) named Giichi as his companion.Hanzo took the mantle as pay tribute to Shirai Ryu founders.

Although Hanzo is Shirai Ryu ninja,he alternate his ninja suit into more modernized version so he can blend into modern Japanese world & hunting Lin Kuei in secret

Kazunari: Hey there, fellas~. Whatcha reading?

Yuki: Here.

Kumon: “100 Ghost Stories”...?

Kazunari: Ghost stories?! The cover book looks pretty cute tho...

Yuki: Yup. I found it in the reference room.

I remembered reading it before, so I brought it with me.

Kumon: So you’ve already read about it!

Misumi: This oni has a triangle horn~! Ah! There’s a cat here!

Kazunari: I know this story! It seems scary, but it’s actually quite a good one~.

Yuki: Ohh, the one where a bakeneko saves its master.

Misumi: What a good cat~.

Muku: It’s such a wonderful story!

Kazunari: Let’s look at other stories!

Misumi: Oh, this person’s hood is a triangle~!

Tenma: There must be something you can do, like what Sakisaka did by reading the original book. It’s important to know about your role in depth.

Yuki: ...Acting like a leader.

Tenma: I’m not acting! I really AM one!

Yuki: Yeah, yeah.

Tenma: Don’t give me that “Yeah, yeah”! That’s no way to behave towards your leader-.

Yuki: *sighs* ...So noisy. I’ll turn off the lights.

Tenma: H-hey! ...Geez.

Yuki: (Role study, huh...)

Yuki: Hey.

Yuki: There weren’t any books other than this in the reference room. It’s not that scary, so you should be fine. (1)

Tenma: Hngh...

Yuki: Once upon a time-.

Tenma: ...S-stop it!

Yuki: There lived...

Tenma: Ugh-!

(I got no choice but to listen...)

Yuki: ...That’s all for tonight.

Tenma: Finally, it’s over...

Yuki: Huh, you’re still awake? You wrapped yourself in blanket and didn’t move an inch at all, so I thought you slept already.

Tenma: I-I just couldn’t fall sleep because of your bad reciting-.

Yuki: Is that so. Good night, then.

Tenma: H-hey...!

Tenma: .....

Yuki: *sleep soundly*

Tenma: .....

...I can’t sleep.

―Practice Room―

Kazunari: G’morning~!

Yuki: Morning.

Tenma: ...Good morning.

Kazunari: OMG! What happened, Tenten?! You look like a panda!

Tenma: ...Nothing.

Yuki: Were you so scared of the ghost story last night that you couldn’t fall sleep?

Tenma: ...!

Yuki: Was it a spot-on?

Tenma: Sh-shut up!

*Flashback ends*

Yuki: -and that’s what happened.

Kumon: Ahaha, I see~!

Kazunari: So nostalgic~! That did happen, huh!

Misumi: You were no good with scary things since then~.

Tenma: That’s not true!

Muku: So you were referring to this book when you mentioned a ghost story back then.

Tenma: Oh, right. I don’t think you guys know, but there’s a history behind that book.

Kazunari: History?

Tenma: Yeah... Soon after that, a lot of bad things happened...

Like, I felt a person’s gaze on me while I was washing my hair, or when I hear some noise in the kitchen and dropped a cup...

Yuki: That’s just you being freaked out.

Muku: But still, the Scheherazade during the play was very wonderful. Maybe it was a good thing that he did the storytelling for his role study!

Tenma: Well... I do admit that.

Yuki: Hm~. It’s been a while, so should I read you a story tonight?

Tenma: NOOO---!!!

[1] In this backstage, they used this word "Kaidan" (怪談). Generally, it means "ghost/horror story", but it's more of a "strange/mysterious tales". The kaidan stories can be funny, or strange, or a retelling of an odd thing that happened before. They can be scary most of the times, but they are not intended to be scary at all. ( Ref 1 / Ref 2 )

I finally remembered what I wanted to ask earlier. Do you have a master list for the BNHA monster au? Like, the people and their monster type?

I know I have but fuck it let's make a masterpost for it and actually tag it this time!

Note that some of these may be subject to change!

So! Overall, the AU is a No Quirks AU(which leads to some relationship shifts). The creatures and Magic they have replaces their Quirks, so a lot of their species are based on their Quirk, but some I went for 'vibes' rather than Quirk-based.

Let's address the first ones that need context rather than just a 'X is Y' first:

Izuku, AfO, and Shigaraki - AfO is a powerful Fae. Izuku and Shigaraki are part of a Changeling Child deal. AfO created a fae child to trade so that he could take Tenko. The fae child ended up not staying where he was supposed to, and was taken in by Inko and named 'Izuku'. This will lead to complications later. Tenko was renamed like in canon, and grew up as a Fae, while Izuku grew up thinking he was Human.

One for All users - OfA is a old and powerful Fae Deal between users, powerful enough to turn the user Fae. Yoichi was a Fae in the first place, and users 2-7 were Witches(Humans who could use Magic) where All Might had no Magic whatsoever before his Deal with Nana. All of them turned Fae. All Might and Izuku make a new Deal, intending to turn Izuku Fae, but he already is so it just re-awakens his dormant powers.

The Todoroki Family - Just fuckin. How could I not do the Demon/Angel hybrid combo? It matches Canon's Fire/Ice thing. So Enji is a Demon, Rei is an Angel. All of the kids have mixed traits and powers corresponding to Canon's Fire/Ice.

Omori brain rot and mythology/supernatural brain rot have combined into this thought process:

Thinking about Omori -> thinking about AUs -> thinking about that one semi-known Monstermori AU that has a major cultural appropriation problem with one of the characters (if you know you know) -> thinking about what I would do if I made my own -> researching Japanese folklore and yokai for Mari and Sunny -> where we are now

More research is needed to find what the rest of the main cast would be, but so far I have this:

Sunny is a bakeneko; a cat yokai with great shapeshifting abilities (including into human forms). They start as normal cats, and gain supernatural abilities from living long lives. Many are troublemakers and are said to bring bad luck, sometimes even eating and replacing their former masters, but some varieties (such as maneki neko) bring good luck and are kind to humans. They are able to consume things much larger than themselves, including many poisonous things, and can summon ghostly fires from their tails (often accidentally starting fires). Some also can reanimate fresh bodies and use them as puppets. [source]

I knew I wanted some sort of cat yokai for Sunny, and bakeneko are quite flexible with their stories and personalities/natures, so they work decently well. Even when taking human form and living life mostly as a human, bakeneko still retain some cat-like traits, and considering Sunny’s already cat-like nature, it fits.

Mari is a kitsune, specifically a holy kitsune. Most commonly, kitsune are known as trickster fox spirits with powerful shapeshifting abilities, some deciding to live human lives, but holy kitsune are servants of the Shinto deity Inari, and act as mediums and messengers to the gods. They are also known to provide good luck and ward off evil spirits. [source]

Once I saw the part about holy kitsune warding off evil spirits like the lily-of-the-valley, and combining that with Smug Mari™️ and the trickster side of kitsune, I knew it was perfect. Kitsune are known for taking the forms of beautiful women to play tricks on human men (Hero), so now we have two animal shapeshifter yokai masquerading as human siblings with a tendency for mischief; it’s perfect!

If anyone has any suggestions for what supernaturals Hero, Kel, Aubrey, and Basil could be, I’m all ears! Basil would definitely be something plant related, and I was thinking some sort of canine for Kel (bc of his high energy and enthusiasm, and also Hector) and a rabbit or hare for Aubrey (since she already has a connection to rabbits), but I have no ideas for Hero. A food related supernatural? Are there any that fit? I have no clue.

Yep yep :DD! When Ayato's in human form it shouldn't be triggering! I haven't gotten much information on how nekomatas/bakenekos' shapeshifting works since they seem to be varied. I've read that bakenekos take the form of their masters... And I twisted that by giving the interpretation that these yokais have to eat their masters to gain their skin. (Imagine venti, but cannibal venti i guess–)

For this fic, it's mostly ayaka who causes the allergic reactions. Since ayato takes care of her, her allergens often rub off his clothes. She couldn't transform into a human (yet.) So yeah, Ayato could either get rid of her (he may be a yandere, but I don't think he would ever dream about killing his sister) or forc– persuade her to eat human meat.

Tbh, the fic was supposed to be the both of them as peaceful bakenekos but I went "why not eat humans too? Let's have ayato eat his rivals." lmao. I had Ayato as a nekomata and Ayaka as a bakeneko because based off yokai.com:

"Nekomata are found in cities and villages and are born in the same way as other bakeneko. However, only the oldest, largest cats with the longest tails—and thus the most intelligence—become this powerful variety."

Tl;dr: Ayato went "I REJECT MY YOKAI IDENTITY, (Y/N)!!!" and it's mostly ayaka who's causing the allergic reactions since she's still a cat

A week full of training has nearly passed~ During that time one certain vampire surely had no rest at all thanks to that stupid hunter. Just what was he thinking by constantly tossing knives at him and cracking his whip towards him? Hell, that fool was a demon or something? No, even any demon or monster can’t be so persistent and stubborn as this foolish human. Or so Kyo sometimes doubt. Last time, one of Yagami's knives flied so closely to his chest, arms and neck. So, it was a matter of a second to dodge the multiple knives thrown at once.

More important, this redhead started to use small bottles of water time from time during the training session. So, now not only this vampire has to dodge his more or less a familiar pattern of hunter’s attacks, but also make sure that the water won't touch his gloves. Surely, this human becomes quiet lively and enjoying every moment of training with Kyo, doesn’t he? Or so, started to notice this brunette, who just got used to play along with Yagami’s rules.

On other hand, it seems that Chizuru didn't mind what this certain pair of idiots were doing - as long as they are not around her shop, she was fine, or so this sorceress mentioned to them. At least these two are not scaring away the customers by making a dramatic scene or complaining about one or another. Sometimes she could swear that it was like taking care of a younger siblings, who are talented enough to cause problems out of nowhere. But for now, this witch could finally have a moment of peace and relax while they were busy somewhere else.

However, even on such a fine evening this brunette was under the care of this redhead. It seems that no matter that it was a chilly night, this vampire didn’t bothered to put his white jacket. First of all, he can easily warm up when he needs to deal with Yagami. Secondly, he didn’t wanted to ruin it because even if it was pretty expensive present, but also no matter that it might be embarrassing, he liked the design of it. Plus, he doubted that he can expect Iori to be generous twice. So, he decided to keep this jacket safe at least during the training session. Besides, this redhead didn’t bother to put his long coat either and was just fine by being in his long sleeved white shirt and black leather vest.

And thus, in the middle of open field near the forest the sounds of whip cracking, the clashing blade and bursting flame, disturbed the silence of the night. It seems that this vampire was lucky enough to dodge the knife attacks from the sides by carefully manoeuvring. However, now he has to deal with the one sent directly at his neck. Just as he bends backward, the sharp blade flies above him. Now Kyo stands straight and takes a battle stance. He sends a small wave of orange flame towards his opponent.

Yet the redhead hunter blocks this attack by low whip cracking. The sparkles of orange flame dances in the air before it submerges into the air unlike the fire in redhead hunter’s eyes. Nevertheless, this vampire jumps high towards his target and ignites his fist. Now he’ll just make that Yagami will finally snuff his fire.

Even if it was a brief moment, but it felt like the time stopped for this brunette once their eyes met. This nocturnal creature’s guard was off after noticing the way hunter’s gaze fixated on him. Surely, Iori’s eyes were sparkling with a thrill and full of life. However, along that, this vampire could sense such burning impatience despite the calm stance of this redhead.

Now Kyo was snapped back to his senses once Yagami sends an upper slash with his trustworthy weapon. This Kusanagi was paralyzed by stinging and burning pain by the strike of the leather rope all across from his abs to his chest. This brunette harshly fells on his back and lets out a loud groan. Although, while Kyo tried to sit up by shakily pushing himself with elbows, he just gave more fiery and stubborn gaze to his opponent. There is no way that this redhead hunter will win this time, or so, this vampire believed. However, Iori shown no mercy upon this nocturnal creature.

Now he picks three knives from the pouch on his left side of belt. While approaching his target, Yagami raises his hand with the blades and about to toss them at once. However, it was close enough if this brunette didn’t rolled on to his left. As knives sunk into the grass, Kyo kneels and when he brings his gloved hand to his mouth, he removes it by his teeth and tosses aside. It seems that relying on his flame was not enough.

Once the glove touched the ground, he rises his spread palm higher. Now the sharp nails shows up and this vampire dashes at the hunter. However, just the moment before the impact, Iori moves away. Nevertheless, it was nearly close enough for Kyo to slash him with his nails. This brunette masterly lands on his feet like a cat, but without hesitation dashes again at his opponent. He hoped that maybe he could strike this redhead from his other side.

However, Yagami’s reaction was quicker - he sends a spin kick at this brunette. Lastly, Kyo was sent flying-off until he harshly hits the ground. While this brunette manages to sit up, he covers his belly with his arm. This vampire tries to stand up one more time, but he was stopped by the hunter’s voice ‘‘Enough…You’re already barely standing, you stupid vampire.’’.

Unfortunately, the training ended with the same result. However, this Kusanagi could swear that it was that close enough to hit Yagami if it wasn’t for being distracted. While this vampire was getting-off the dust from his black t-shirt and from the front side of jeans, he speaks to the hunter in annoyed tone ‘‘You know, I let you win on purpose, so, you better be glad that I didn’t roasted you for good.’’. Once he looks at this redhead, who finished wrapping his whip and placed on his right side of the belt, this brunette comments ‘‘Anyway, it seems that you looked so excited just for a training. Wonder why…’’.

Iori only cracks a smile and briefly replies ‘‘I’m just wondering what you can do when you fully recover. So, I’ll need wait as much as needed, because you might be the one who can satisfy me.’’. Now Kyo gives a smug look on his face and after he walks close enough this redhead, he vampire wraps his one arm around the hunter’s shoulder and answers in nearly singing voice ‘‘Then dream on~ ‘Cos you��ll be under my foot and being drained until the last drop when it happens. So, you may start to practice your lines when you gonna beg for mercy and prepare all my wanted answers.’’.

However, it seems that the redhead hunter didn’t liked how this Kusanagi become too cocky and so, he puts him back to his place by back-firing in slight mocking tone ‘‘First, stop acting like a cat. Unless, you are somehow a half-breed of nekomata(1) and vampire.’’. Surely, Kyo widens his eyes and tried to back-off once he removed his arm from hunter’s shoulder. However, now this vampire felt how one of this redhead’s arm wraps around his waist. He didn’t wanted to give up so easily to this foolish human and without hiding the surprise in his voice, he tells ‘‘What are you talking about? I ain’t some kind of hybrid. I’m pure-blooded vampire, unfortunately! Not sure why you think that I’m a cat. Like heck, I look or act as a one!’’.

Yagami closes his eyes and sighs - it was really hard to keep his poker-face when this brunette indignantly yet impatiently starred at him with such a big eyes. Does he really have to put such an acting? Could it be that this stupid vampire just being easily provoked by a simple comment? Or so wondered this redhead hunter. However, maybe it was better chance to find out about more about Kyo’s weird behavior when he was sleeping. So, no matter how it might been more amusing to tease this vampire, but Iori’s curiosity was more stronger. And thus, he deeply exhales and asks ‘‘I can understand why you have fangs and claws. However, explain me one thing. Why are you making purring and meowing-like noises during your asleep. Or is it a normal thing for you or your kind?’’.

Surely, this brunette was speechless and after short pause he replied slightly shaky voice ‘‘Don’t you think that you get away by thinking-off random excuses for your weird behaviour. Just because I was unconscious, it doesn’t mean that you can take an advance of me and lie without even blinking. Hell, you think that I’m aware of anything around me while I’m asleep or unconscious?’’.

Now this vampire lowers his head for a second and when he returns his gaze, he continues in concern tone ‘‘However, I can still remember that when we were in storage, you were waaay to stressed and very scared of losing...someone, I g-guess. I could even sense that you were so desperate and just seek for a comfort. Of course, I wanted to snap you out of this and show that ‘everything is fine’, ‘I’m over there and still fine and alive’, you idiot! So, if it wasn’t for being unable to move my body, I…’’, it seems that the further words stuck inside this brunette’s throat and now he lowered his head and averted his gaze from Iori.

Just why this vampire have to behave like this or achieve by these words? Yet one one thing for sure, this nocturnal creature didn’t looked too cunning or smart to deceive this hunter. He was simply too honest and acted on impulse without thinking about any consequences. However, just in case, he needs to know for sure whenever this brunette is deceiving him or not. For some reason he felt that it could assure him. So, now Iori brings Kyo closely to him. There was barely any space left between them.

Now this places his hand under this brunette’s chin and gently tilts his head. So, this vampire only swallows saliva as he widens his eyes and now impatiently waits how this unpredictable man going to act. Yagami only silently fixates his gaze on this brunette and after a short pause comments in calm tone ‘‘You don’t look smart enough to trick me, nor you’re a nekomata, that’s for sure. You’re just a trouble-maker, who keeps me causing constant problems, you stupid vampire…’’. Of course, this Kusanagi frowns and was about to open his mouth to tell not the kindest words to this hunter, however, Iori places the same hand behind Kyo’s head and now presses it against his chest.

This brunette widens his eyes for a moment, but as soon as he hears the heartbeat of this redhead, he nearly closes his eyes, it was simply so relaxing and calming. So, maybe it wouldn’t hurt to rest his head for awhile like this. More important, Kyo realized that this time he was able to control his body, so, now he stretches his arms and wraps his arms around Yagami’s neck. After this vampire lifts his head, he looks at this redhead with strangely sleepy gaze.

Even so, his one hand gently slides up from Iori’s neck towards his hair and starts to brush it. Yagami could feel how was slightly shaking Kyo’s hand yet he just allowed this nocturnal creature act as he wants. Besides, he was curious what this vampire was up to. However, this brunette says in nearly purring tone while keeping a calm look on his face ‘‘You keep doing things like these too. So, I just want you to taste how does that feels like. Don’t you think that you’re get away so easily after what you’ve done to me. Once I’ll fully recover, I’ll make it up for what you’ve done, but with doubling it up.’’.

However, a little fire sparkles in the hunter’s eyes and now he delightfully smiles as he replies ‘‘Then why don’t you try it already? I won’t accept any less than your best. So, don’t disappoint me when that day will come, Kyo.’’. Nevertheless, this vampire counter-attacks in sweeter tone ‘‘I’ll make you realize that you’ve made a huge mistake by teaching me how to defeat you.’’.

After this brunette chuckles, he gazes with shyer look on his face. Now he continues ‘‘But for now, I’ll show you what happens when you try to tame a wild beast.’’. Kyo just swallows saliva and closes his eyes. After he slightly opens his mouth, he presses his lips against Iori’s. Despite that he felt how he could melt in same spot, this brunette’s tongue tries carefully slip inside Yagami’s mouth. Surprisingly, this redhead lets him in and this vampire started to explore every part of Iori’s mouth without missing a single spot.

However, it seems that soon enough this nocturnal creature started to let out quiet whims in between catching his breath. Hell, even if he felt how his knees could give up on him any second, but now also Iori started to gently slide the same hand, which was placed on vampire’s waist, upwards. So, now Kyo more tightly hold into the hunter’s back. Just when he expected something more to happen, this redhead slowly with-draws his head away.

After opening his eyes, he notices how this vampire was still all blushing while catching his breath and dazing. Maybe it was still too much to handle for this nocturnal creature, but Iori had to admit it, it was quiet daring move from this vampire’s side. However, soon enough Kyo was back to his senses despite having his cheeks dyed in that lovely red. While he starred at Yagami, he comments in purring tone ‘‘Just look at yourself…You’re all blushing, was it too much for you to handle?~ I warned you though.’’.

Of course, such a comment of this brunette caught this redhead’s guard off, but once he removes his arms around the vampire, he tells in slightly shy tone ‘‘Anyway, for today you’ve had enough. Go and rest before another day. Because tomorrow, we’re setting on new journey. This time I won’t interface and I’ll just observe you.’’ and turns his head from this brunette.

In the end, Kyo just gives a smug look on his face while observes such a reaction of the hunter and now replies ‘‘What is it with you, Yagami? You don’t need to rush and whatever there is tomorrow can wait. So, why don’t we just sit back and stay for awhile?’’. After looking back at this vampire, Iori sighs and closes his eyes. Without telling a word he sits on his knees and now he prompts Kyo in slight annoyed tone ‘‘So you’re joining or not?…Just hurry up before I changed my mind, you stupid vampire.’’.

Of course, after this demand this Kusanagi joins him and now once he places his arms behind Yagami’s shoulders, he rest his head on this hunter’s chest. Strangely, but Iori didn’t minded to stay like this and somehow was even glad for such a peaceful moment.

I hope you haven't already talked about it but I need to know why Hanako and Tsukasa have hitodama in the Hanakotei AU.

Unlike the other people working at the inn, Hanako isn't even a Bakeneko but a Nekomata, but the hitodama didn't appear when he first transformed and ran off with Tsukasa. Apparently the worse a cat is abused, the stronger she becomes as a Nekomata, so I get why he burned down the circus but rescued Tsukasa who was apparently very loving and even took up his form but-- why'd he kill him afterwards??? Did he just fail to control his urges? He likes eating human meat, so surely the person he likes best would be especially appetizing, especially after he just became a Nekomata and had no time to learn how to control his instinct. He'd be hungry and disoriented.

Or did he want Tsukasa to stay with him eternally? Nekomata are known for their necromancy, so it's not like this is difficult for him. But considering that Tsukasa hasn't changed since the circus incident, Hanako killed him pretty much right after. That seems quite excessive since he could have just let him live out his life together with him and then revive him when he dies of old age...? (Tsukasa certainly wasn't running away from him! He gave him clothing! Held hands with him while escaping the law! Seems perfectly happy to pretend to be a cat even fifty years later as long as Amane plays with him!)

Of course Tsukasa could have died because of some other reason but considering Nekomata are known for killing their owners that's kinda, eh, doubtful? Especially since Hanako canonically killed his little brother. On the other hand Hanako does also have hitodama so he might be dead as well???? Either he is a ghost Nekomata or he's using these things to control (?), stabilize (?) Tsukasa, basically they might be a sign that he's currently doing necromancy.

There's no reason for him to kill himself in this AU even after killing Tsukasa since he can simply revive him! Surely suicide would be counterproductive if regrets it/ wants Tsukasa to live/ killed him in order to make sure Tsukasa wouldn't leave him.

(Nekomata aren't the most stable yokai. Apparently you can be perfectly nice to them but as soon as a cat turns old enough, she'll turn into a nekomata and eat you, so... you know... Hanako talking about how he is searching for yummy humans to eat, doesn't make him sound very stable.)

TLDR: Even if Tsukasa is dead and was subsequently revived by Hanako, why does Hanako have hitodama?

Ahhh it's super interesting, whether they have seals + hitodama in any given AU! it feels like it says everything… with a lot of what you say, I'm in agreeance; it's obvious with a Nekomata's urges, what must have happened between the two... at least in raw actions. He surely killed him, as he so loves to. But it begs questions for the details...

So many questions! Hanako really didn't last very long, at resisting killing Tsukasa. I wonder how effective Hanako was at taking care of Tsukasa, after running away? How long were the two lost in the woods together? How did Tsukasa, a normal human child, fare, with a Nekomata as his ward? Was Hanako any more mature than Tsukasa? As a Nekomata, Hanako could probably kill them some kind of food ... but is he really that adept and skilled at caretaking? Does he even understand all the needs of a human child? Does he understand how they differ from a cat's? I'm not sure if Hanako, at that moment, was so smart or capable … its possible Tsukasa wasn't doing well… but Hanako is a suspicious person. I personally would be fond of both things happening; that Hanako underestimated how little he was fit to be Tsukasa's only master, as a foolish kitty, and how impossible it was to resist the appeal of Tsukasa's flesh.

I believe both are ghosts in the AU. most AUs with seals+hitodama combo, they are for sure ghosts. (in the teen drama AU they have neither ... in monster nursery they have seals but no hitodama... inscrutable....)

I think, as well as the hitodama, one should consider their seals! In my mind, the seals always convey that Tsukasa is Amane's property, and that Amane did something to make Tsukasa 'his'. So, surely he used his necromancy on Tsukasa after killing him … it feels easy to explain that 'tie'... but then, why does Hanako have a seal, too? In canon, that seal was placed by someone else (grandma Minamoto, as far as we know) ... did Hanako choose his sealing in this AU? Did Sakura seal him after they arrived at the inn? Did that seal come some number of years into the inn arrangement?

I tend to assume Hanako's seal has to do with limiting/restricting himself, purely because that is the only use for that kind of seal we've seen thus far. It represents repressing something, to me, so it's interesting when he wears it even in an AU as seemingly lawless as Ghost Hotel or Bakeneko, where Hanako seems completely leaning into his urges and dangerous-ness… but… the seal implicates something is held back. It could always be that Sakura required it of him, in order to work at the inn (to place him more on-level with the other bakeneko, and subdue his power level to reduce risks)

in canon, Hanako leans very much into being a murderer, despite the agonies surrounding it. He brandishes the knife flippantly, he threatens people around him with it as a gag, he poses cool with it for Nene, he acts as if it carries no weight at all to him, even as he pulls it out of his own body. If you saw only a few images of our Hanako, he would look like a monster who feels no remorse. He typically presents himself as care-free... if he can help it...

We don't really know how Hanako feels about what he did to Tsukasa, in canon… ashamed? proud? complicated? It's probably just as layered for Hanako-tei. Maybe it felt very good to kill Tsukasa, and maybe he's pleased at their arrangement now, but maybe it was also a miserable moment he cannot forgive himself for, the very last thing he wanted to see himself do.

It could always be a failure to protect Tsukasa, and an explosive moment of indulgence.

I think there might be a reason to kill himself; self-hatred or shame or agony, OR, personally, I believe Hanako is most inclined to 'follow' Tsukasa's death out of a romantic urge to 'prove' he would do that, to die with him. I think the shinjuu is always a gesture of proving love and devotion, and the seals represent that commitment whenever present. Tied together and all. Being both dead at the same age is also gratuitously decadent, for twins. It's like a big gigantic banner reading "DEFINITELY DIED TOGETHER". Its funny Hanako-tei is seemingly pretending this is reality by making him and Tsukasa cosplay each other ... what is up with him?

There could be circumstances where there is "no good reason" for Hanako to kill himself, i.e. no societal punishment or parents to answer to, nothing to escape via death, or already seemingly powerful enough to keep them both safe as a kaii, and he would simply ache to do it out of a need to profess something profound. I think Hanako always struggles at saying how he feels, or expressing it … in a normal way …

I also think we're always missing pieces, with the Yugi. Its worth always keeping in mind that Tsukasa is also suicidal, and easily sees himself as unnecessary/a burden. If Amane was trying to take care of him, after running away, and it went poorly or was visibly difficult for Hanako, or he was struggling to resist his urges, Tsukasa might hurt himself or try to kill himself as a way to do Hanako a favor (and given Takase-Bune and Night on the Galactic Railroad both feature situations like this, and Iro references both, I keep it in mind as a central aspect of Tsukasa, who tried to die to give Amane life).

In Bakeneko Ryokan AU, you could imagine a situation like that … one where Tsukasa tries to rid Hanako of the burden or offer himself for Hanako to consume, and, you could have a situation where the last thing Hanako wanted to do cannot be helped but to happen. I think it's Hanako's nature that if Tsukasa says, "I'll die, then. It's okay. You'll be happier if I die." Hanako is like, SCRREEEAAAA NO NO WHO SAID YOU COULD DECIDE THAT??? I'LL SHOW YOU HOW IMPORTANT YOU ARE *kills himself and curses them both eternally* . .. . just killing Tsukasa is only half of the love poem. It's important to say "and I don't want to live without you; I want us to change each other, permanently. I want to be as marked by this as you are." A fully in-tact, healthy Hanako, and a murdered Tsukasa, it's just not quite romantic enough, is it? Then only Tsukasa is sacrificed and trapped ... I think both of them need to be trapped, haha. Altered permanently, irreversibly, by their love.

and I think Hanako's gesture always makes the intended impression on Tsukasa.... he is pleased to be with him, now. To thank Hanako for his loving and generous gesture, he will play kitty-kitten all day long with him.

I hope that tackled everything! I'm having trouble keeping my head on straight lol....
