Hi Bina I love your art so much! You would always drop really good art/life wisdom during streams so I was wondering if you have any tips for ppl like me who don't feel very confident about their art? Sometimes I'll draw something and be like "ah yes my masterpiece oh la la" but then I'll post it and immediately feel a little bit like I'm not good enough to be doing this in the first place. if you have any friends who you know will reliably gas you up, SHOW THEM YOUR PICTURES FIRST!!! i am a loser shut in with literally only one friend who i regularly show my stuff to, AND THEIR APPROVAL IS LIKE 8X THE SEROTONIN BOOST OF A STRANGER.

nextly, you must learn that People Love Fanart. you don't gotta make Da Vinci level stuff for people to love your fanart either ok. I AM AN EXAMPLE OF THIS. and if you can make a fair amount of it?? HOO BOY YOU'RE IN. YOU'RE GONNA GET THAT VALIDATION AFTER A WHILE. & tag your stuff so people can find it of course B^) so if u have a Piece of Media that you enjoy enough to make art of, DO THAT SHIT!!!

so that's two things you can do. the other thing, though very boring, is to put in the work to increase your technical skill. if you're able to motivate yourself to do this, confidence will come naturally as your skillset increases and you're able to more easily tackle illustrations that would have been much more difficult like a year ago. THIS IS HARD THO. i suggest finding things to get obsessed with so you feel naturally compelled to mAKE ART OF IT, since usually making a bunch of art helps you get better at.. making art. LOL

HANBIN of ZEROBASEONE !

let's say that having hanbin's cousin in her group helped bina a little to get closer to the young man.. and despite bina's introverted side, the two friends could easily get to know each other and get closer, while noting their similar personalities. after learning more about each other, bina and hanbin found many similarities that they were quick to point out. nowadays, the two 01'liners quickly became like best friends and talk almost every day — or at least, enough for euni to think that bina answers more hanbin's texts than hers.. to be continued.

LANFEN of HORAE !

if there is a friendship that has surprised many, it's indeed this one. bina and lanfen are rather extremely different from each other, but in every way they complement each other perfectly. when bina gives too much of herself, so much so that some dare to take advantage of it, lanfen is always there to stop them. and in return, when lanfen doesn't know how to hold her sharp tongue when she gets angry, bina is always there to put a sincere hand on her shoulder and help her control her words. it's a win-win relationship.

HEESEUNG of ENHYPEN !

bina was quickly impressed by his talent : everything about him was somewhat intimidating. he was handsome, talented, hot, and above all, an amazing all-rounder that many people appreciated very quickly. when he's on stage, bina can't take her eyes off him — what he finally noticed. during a show, the multi-talented boy hastened to approach her, and since then, not a moment goes by without him teasing her by talking about this famous period where she was bewitched by him. but now, maybe the roles have been reversed..

YONGHEE of CIX !

if you mention yonghee to bina, she'll instantly start blushing. it's no secret that the girl had her biggest possible crush on the young boy. the first time she met him, she blushed so much they all thought she was choking — when, as it turned out, that her heart was beating so fast she'd lost her ability to speak. now she's learned to contain her panic-stricken heart and speak to him calmly and normally, even if she continues to have a soft spot for him.

BLAIR & CORDELIA of ØCEANA !

even if sohee and bina's relationship wasn't the best to begin with, blair has brought the two of them together to form an almost inseparable trio. the three of them are a bit like the powerpuff girls : sohee with her short temper and her strong personality, is like buttercup, blair with her independent personality and social skills is like blossom, and finally, our hopeless romantic and the one who sees the good in every little thing and every person, bina, is like bubbles.

RYUJIN & CHAERYEONG of ITZY !

if you want to talk about bina's role models, you won't be able to escape the endless conversation she will have about itzy's chaeryeong. if bina were a kpop stan, she would probably be the biggest midzy in the industry. they met during a television show, and naturally got closer, so much that, the same evening, bina was invited to the members' dormitory for a movie night. that's when she started talking with ryujin too. results — the three of them became excellent friends. obviously, she hastened to introduce them to her neverland' sisters, helping them all to create a solid friendship.

JUYEON of THE BOYZ !

at first, she was intimidated. but when she realized why tinkerbells and deobis kept saying that they seemed to be twins separated at birth, she quickly relaxed. understanding that they were only comparing her clumsiness and lack of concentration, she quickly noticed that juyeon was exactly the same. since they both laughed about it together, during a period when they were mc together, the two young adults have become very friendly and often joke around calling each other fake twin, which filled with happiness the fans of both groups.

LIBBY of STRAY KIDS !

okay so put two shy introverts who become real noisy chatterboxes when they are comfortable, and you will get libby and bina in one go. it was weird and tense at first, but when they started to get along.. oh boi, it was the end. they can't stop laughing and talking together like real high school girls who meet after school, they have a rather iconic and chaotic dynamic, but hey — we like them like that, right? they're just unstoppable together.

RUBY of TOMORROW BY TOGETHER !

the first time bina heard about ruby, it was via twitter, where her english name was in TT. on closer inspection, she noticed that it was because ruby had the exact same first name as her, and that fans were quick to point out. after that, the two girls were often assimilated together thanks to their name, which prompted bina to talk with ruby, and not surprisingly, they immediately got along well.

DAEHWI of AB6IX !

bina doesn't have many friends, but if there is one person she truly likes, it's daehwi. present since the beginning, she followed his every step in wanna one, until he joined ab6ix, and continues to provide him with all the support he needs with a caring eye. bina considers him her treasure and can't help but treat him like a child every time they see each other, which sometimes annoys the young man — but deep down, she knows he loves it.

THE ROARING LIONS

The Roaring Lions are a group of bounty hunters who are out to stop criminals and bring them to justice. These are the members of the group! All of them are a mixture of Whumpees and Caretakers.

Theo Campbell

Leader of The Roaring Lions. A great leader in his own right, he cares deeply for his team. Had lost his mother from a criminal, who had kidnapped and murdered her. Has a strong sense of justice and stern, but fair to his team.

Malik Townsend

An intelligent man, and Theo's boyfriend and right hand man. He is a former college programming professor who had witnessed the murder of one of his students. Traumatized by this, he quits teaching and joined The Roaring Lions to stop crime. Dedicated and proud of his work, he is quite friendly, and will do everything in his power to stop crime.

Elliot Parrish

An autistic trans man who is quite shy and introverted. He grew up in a town full of crime and wants to make a change after witnessing a friend getting robbed and nearly murdered. He is usually the one behind the scenes, working on communicating with his team and tracking down criminals they are looking for. Hates the sight of blood.

Angela Mullen

Elliot's childhood best friend and crush, and a tough woman. She is the brawn to Elliot's brains. Has a short temper but cares deeply for her friends and family. She is a self sacrificing woman who would give up even her life to protect her friends.

Olivia Taylor

A sweet and gentle woman who is once a doctor. Like Elliot, she works behind the scenes taking care of any of her injured teammates. However, she can fight well, especially with her beloved pistol she named Gabby, given by her father, who was murdered in a home invasion.

Lillie Garcia

A former nurse who used to work under Olivia. Struggling with self esteem and self confidence issues, she believes she isn't a good fit in the team and tries everything she could to get their "approval", even though it is unnecessary. She crushes on Olivia since their doctor days, but feels that she would reject her.

Stepan Romanov

A man who knows his ways of many weapons. Used to work at a gun shop, until his former college classmate, Theo, had asked him to join The RoarinNaseem. He's the one who takes care of the team's weapons. Friendly and loves to talk about weapons, but is street smart. Is protective of his allies, especially his childhood best friend, Nasheem.

Nasheem Fazal ur Rahman Bina

Nasheem has a prosthetic leg due to being kidnapped, tortured, and got their leg cut off before they were rescued. The kidnapper is never caught, and upon learning of The Roaring Lions, they joined them in the hopes of finding their kidnapper. Despite the trauma, they hide it with a smile and joking around, and is quite naive. They're close friends with Stepan.

OF THE LEGENDARY KHANNA OF MUSIC - USHA KHANNA!

An entertaining anecdote around another super duper hit song, again involving Usha Khanna. The one thing that constantly saddened Usha ji, (& that infact was a indirect qun asked of her by many male interviewers), was how being a lady became a big hinderance in her forming the kinda camaraderie that other male music directors had with their producer-directors, camaraderie that at times greatly assists creativity.- stuff like, working continuously till late into the nights unbeknownst of time or place or having to worry about high decency of expression etc around people. PS. Although she says, all the male colleagues she worked with throughout her career loved her so genuinely, that she never felt scared around them. Yet, twas they who'd be so shy & hesitant, so as to voluntarily pack up recordings at 7:30 pm sharp with her, etc. Yet, this one above-mentioned song, involved an entertaining incident, quite outside the norm. A particular song had to be recorded at most by the next day, for which the desired tune was not being achieved. The producer frustrated at the lack of progress even left in a huff. Usha ji & her lyricist Indeevar ji, alongwith their assistant, worked like crazy till late into the night, but to no avail. Then Indeevar ji came up with the idea of changing location, & twas decided to go roam around Carter Road, at 1am in the night. While on the drive back, they glanced upon a house of one of their common friends, & decided to pay him a visit. However, Usha suddenly became hesitant, being a lady, & the common friend being a married male, what his wife might think of it all, a woman entering announced into their home at 2 in the night. Yet the team asked her to think none of it, & they went anyway. The door was opened by their good friend & music legend Bhupinder Singh- who immediately blurted, "Arre Munni (his pet name for Usha), tu?! Itni raat ko, poori mandli ke saath?!" They mischievously mentioned their urge for a hot cuppa chai at this time of night, a request they knew their dear friend would not be able to refuse. Bhupinder of course let them in, & twas then during their refreshing night out, sitting right inside Bhupinder's house at 3 in the night, that the perfect tune for the song came to Usha, for which this entire rigmarole'd begun anyway, ...she immediately ordered for the harmonium from Bhupinder's room, & a masterpiece got tuned then & there! Creativity, & their funny, interesting, entertaining, & even weird, but ultimately successful journeys! . . Another most entertaining incident on one of the very big superhit songs of the time, is worthy of anecdote. And since this incident involves Kishore Kumar, one of the greatest natural comedians of Indian cinema, you know it gotta be funny at some level! So Super Legendary Music Director Usha Khanna (Ranked 3rd @ Indies, in the soon-to-be-completed All-Time Music Directors List, as of now!), was waiting for Kishore Kumar for recording this song at Famous Studios, ironically infamous for not having the track system of sound recording, & hence needing the singers' live presence throughout the entire song sitting. As it turns out, Usha received word that a person was on the landline phone across the verandah eagerly waiting to speak to her (no cellphones then). As she went across the open yard & picked up the phone, a very ill sounding voice murmured, "Arre Usha , pata hai mere pet me na bauhut zor ka dard ho raha hai, main aaj nahi aa paunga." Usha instantly recognized the voice & the mischief behind it. "Dada (Kishore Kumar), main jaanti hoon aap ki awaaz ko, aapke pet wet me koi dard nahi hua hai, jaldi aa jaiye pls, mere Famous Studios ki recording aapke bina nahi ho payegi, aap jante hain". "Arre nahi yar, main sach keh raha hoon, bahut zor ka dard hai, achha haan chal bye", saying this Kishore abruptly disconnected. Usha was aghast at having been left stranded so, at such an important sitting. She sadly trotted back to her seat, & mulled over what all losses would be incurred coz of it. Few mins later, commotion ensued inside the Studio room behind them, "Kishore da aa gaye, Kishore da aa gaye!". Usha & the entire team ran in, to find Kishore inside, meticulously preparing for his take, as if nothing had happened. Usha was relieved beyond expression, yet irritatingly blurted, "Dada, aap bhi na, aise darane aur sataane me aapko maza aata hai kya". Kishore laughed & replied ,"Usha, main kaam toh darane wala hi karne wala tha, par teri mehnat ne tujhe bacha liya!" Usha was utterly perplexed. "Matlab?" He revealed, "Asal mein, vo phone call toh sach hi tha. .. Hua ye ki, Famous Studio pahunchne se 10 min pehle, maine apne driver ko aajke (dummy/rough song recorded by other singers) tape bajane ko kaha. Usne ittefaq se, doosre MD ka gana baja diya, jo mujhe aaj hi gana tha. Us me itna sargam tha, aur tum toh jaanti ho classical se mere rishta, mera pet ne vakay jawab de diya, bure bure khyal aane lage, aur mere ghar bhaagne ki teevr ichha hone lagi. Tabhi maine gaadi se utarke tumhe phone kiya. .. Par Famous se aage nikalte hi, jab yaad aya aaj toh do MD ke gaane the, toh driver se tumhara gaane bajane ko kaha, aur tumhara geet sunke, dil itna khush hua, pet dard sab bhaag gaya, aur mann kiya ye geet main aaj hi kya, abhi record karunga! Aur bas aa pahuncha!" Everyone was relieved at this back-handed compliment from the legend, & the recording was completed. Shorter than my normal chapters, but I want to make the story a little longer chapter-wise. I get into the habit of writing 20k length chapters and I NEED to get out of that habit before I go into severe burnout.

You were sitting on the couch with a glass cup filled with tea in between your hands, your (e/c) eyes flicking between the two immortal gods that were seated across from you. Techno was lazily slouching against the back of his chair, reading a crimson coloured book he had just randomly conjured up when you weren’t looking, meanwhile, Philza was casually feeding a few of the berries that were on one of the cakes to Chat, “Now, where do we begin?”

“The… Beginning?” You couldn’t help how your voice sounded a bit shaky. Well, you were in a room with no memory of who you were, and only a slight knowledge of the two men in front of you. One of them was more than a little intimidating, while the other was extremely unbothered and carefree, but they were both still scary in their own way.

“I suppose that’s fair,” Phil gave a soft chuckle, his voice almost a laid back and lazy as he was but also had a twinge of sadness intertwined in his voice, “Well, I can tell you that you’re (Y/n) (L/n). That’s a good start. Now, I won’t be able to tell you everything you want to know right away. Your mind is still extremely fragile from just waking up after being asleep for two months.”

“Then… What caused it? My memory loss I mean…” You watched as Philza became visibly saddened at the tone of your voice, “Please? Or… At least who was I before my memory loss?”

Technoblade looked up from his book, glancing over at his old friend curiously. The avian sighed softly, taking a moment to gather his words as he took a drink from his cup, “You were... An offering to us. Your village, in exchange for safety, offered the most stunning mortal in the village. Crossing over from the Mortal world was too much of a strain for your mind, but that's not important. You belong to us now, darling..."

Technoblade sat up, staring at his friend in shock from behind his glasses, “You-You actually told them that?” He stuttered in complete shock and awe that his friend actually had the guts to lie to you, “But-But I thought-”

Philza silenced Techno by a single glance, leaving the piglin to stutter to himself while sitting up straight, but the hat-wearing male caught sight of the grin that split across the Piglin's cheeks, "Don't worry, we'll treat you well, mate..." He smiled at you but quickly noticed how your breathing picked up.

Techno and Phil watched you like a hawk. They watched as the hue quickly seeped from your (s/t) skin... Leaving behind a pale grey that almost seemed to make a mockery of the beautiful colour your features once were, "Phil... They're gonna pass out again." Techno warned softly, shutting his book after placing a marker between the pages, "I don't think we should've told them that so quick..."

"Mmm... They seem to be going into shock again..." Phil murmured back to his old friend, "I hope that they don't faint..."

Your mind was blank.

Sure, these two gods were heavily attractive in their own ways, but you had little to no memory of them and now they were saying they owned you! Your lips were moving, but no words were coming out, while you were faintly aware of the murmuring coming from the pink-haired male and ruffling of feathers coming from the avian.

Slowly, you felt the porcelain cup be taken from between your shaking hands and a gentle but calloused hand quickly replaced it, “(Y/n)...” Philza cooed gently and a rush of ice flooded through your veins, but… It was calming, “I know… But we’re going to take it one step at a time…” Looking down, you saw his hand had a silvery sort of glow coming off of it. Was he the cause of the icy feeling in your veins? Oh! Right… He’s a god.

You were in the presence of… gods…

It burned... Oh, gods, it burned...

Now what exactly burned wasn't clear in your mind, or what was causing it for that matter. You just wanted it to stop.

Run... Run...

Were... Were you screaming?

"Perhaps... This lie wasn't the most calming... Techno, please knock them out again. The sleep spell won't work twice in a row."

Wh-What?

It was soothing... You almost felt like you were floating in a way. It left you dizzy while also leaving you clearheaded at the same time... While you felt extremely light and airy, your arms and head were heavy enough to where you couldn't lift them in the slightest...

“(Y/n)?”

Who was that?

...Was that you?

That seemed to ring a bell in your mind, but not as loud as a clock tower. Instead, it was similar to a small decoration bell, quiet... Yet audible.

"(Y/n)... Please, come back to us..."

I'm trying...

You tried to speak to the disembodied voice but quickly discovered that your jaw would not move...

Mentally exhaling, you pursed your lips and closed your eyes again. Wake up... Wake up... Wake up, (Y/n)!

Save me...

Whatever gods are listening...

Save me... Please!

As if the gods themselves heard your desperate pleas, a golden and silver light invaded your vision, only seeming to get brighter and brighter without any sort of mercy. Shutting your eyes tightly... You became enveloped in icy cold wind and a burning hot warmth...

Protection... Safety...

"(Y/n)?"

With a small gasp, your eyes shot open and you saw two figures invading your vision, while also successfully blocking you from the light that was trying to seep through the silk chiffon curtains caging you in.

"Morning, darling." The male with golden braided hair and inhuman blue eyes staring down at you with a loving fondness. On top of his head was a large hat that was decorated with white and green stripes, thin golden chains and coloured beads dangling from the brim, "What's that look for?" He asked, large appendages covered in black silky feathers fluffing up every so often.

"You look... Confused..." Murmured the other male. This one was much taller than the blond, and as well as plenty more muscular, but his pink braided hair was an excellent accent. The golden crown on his head, his tusks coming from his lower jaw... and even the darkened eyes behind the cracked glasses framing his face... Nothing about him looked human as well.

You think... You would remember such strange-looking beings...

"Who... are you?"

Jungkook: I'll never forget the look in her eyes. She was like, "Yeah! Fuck Reviewer 2!" But when we got home, she fucked me. Hard. Rode me. And then when she was about to come, she asked me to spit. Right into her mouth.

More thoughts on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina:

I am enjoying this far, far more than I thought I would. And probably should.

I don’t fully understand the family tree and accents.

Miranda Otto’s performance so far can only be described as delicious. Deliciously evilesque. Deliciously playing it straight. Just wonderful.

Same for Michelle Gomez.

Lucy Davis is her usual delightful self.

Harvey is actually a sweet bloke and well-done. (””Brina” is supposed to be a cute nickname, I guess? Not sure if that’s how it is in the comics version this is based upon. However, that makes no sense for a nickname. It’s not easy to say, even though it’s shorter. “Bean” or “Bina” would be more cutesy and nickname-esque.)

The explicit discussion about intersectional feminism and not being preachy but not shying away from teen girls using phrases like, “Daughters of Black Panthers.” It’s wonderful. I love her friends Roz and Susie.

I was worried it’d be scarier. It’s not Supernatural scary, but also not Supernatural light. (Yes, that show scares me sometimes. Leave me be.) It’s creepier than Buffy, and seems to want to be as cheeky, but not quite there. So, yes, we’ll go with creepy but not scary. And I’m okay with that. I definitely prefer that. (And Buffy had some haunting eps. Helloooo, “Hush.”) It’s definitely a show with its own tone, and I appreciate that.

lemme bang my shits here cuz this is gonna be long my dudes.

so where do i start with this ? oh i know, from their complexity. now both katsuki & izuku are indeed complex as characters. ther mentality & the way they act it’s not simple as someone could think of. there is much more than that awkwardness / shy attitude of izuku &, at the same time, there is much more than that asshole / jerk side of bakugou. honest talk now i don't know why some people still think these two characters are still like the first time we saw them. sure some aspects of their attitudes remained, i won't lie about it, yet they develop so much, in terms of minds, actions & mostly about their personalities.

we saw that so many times; in the manga & non ( if you look at the jump festa oav, you can see how bakugou develop so much in terms of "hero behavior” & especially in terms of "protecting someone", since that's what a hero should do / also look at how the only one who noticed it is actually izuku midoriya. ). now we saw izuku develop so much too, i mean, he started from the bottom & look where he is now. he learned so much, & he's still learning & if you think this is some easy shit everyone could have done, you are wrong my friend. izuku has such a burden on his shoulders & for a guy who always thought to die as a quirkless one, living a monotonous life, without being able to achieve his biggest dream, CHANGING from day to day, being covered / filled with so many responsibilities, well you may think this dude has a pretty solid mind & such a big brave heart to do that.

yet i don't wanna stop there, lemme write down some examples, to understand better their personalities & to reply to your question fully. okay now take as an example all the fights katsuki & izuku had. all their fights are always opposed to what they really aspire to. their MAIN task, in their fights is always different yet both of them, in the end want to surpass the other & reach the TOP, becoming the greatest hero of history. take izuku for example, he's trying his best as the new one for all successor. he is the boy all might put his faith on, the guy all might trust more than himself & that would literally die for. now izuku was born quirkless, let's say it, he was born with NOTHING & he always lived with envy in his heart. envy matured by looking at his ex best friend katsuki bakugou, who indeed had everything in life ( you can already see how both of the are different, yet so alike / one born quirkless, the other born with a quirk / still both of them became FRIENDS, actually BEST FRIENDS & they had nothing in common, like literally nothing ). & no matter if izuku smiled all the time, if this guy was always ready to protect & help the other, he, himself was always JEALOUS of katsuki. he was jealous of how he stood in front of his enemies, in front of danger. izuku was indeed jealous of that, because he couldn't have a strong quirk as katsuki’s one & nor katsuki's strong personality. izuku was jealous yes, yet he couldn’t but also ADMIRE katsuki's strength. because lets say it, that tiny tiny jealous we saw in the first part of the manga is now being replaced by pure ADMIRATION. yes, of course there is still jealous in izuku’s eyes, i mean of course izuku is still jealous of katsuki but mostly he ADMIRES HIM. he always did actually, yet he never showed his jealous side to katsuki in their childhood if not during their first first fight at U.A or mostly during the fight they had against all might & the fight after all might’s fall.

on the other side we see katsuki bakugou, a boy who is indeed born with everything. he always had everything & prises did nothing but increase his ego & his arrogance. he became so sure of his "I'M THE BEST", that he develop a phobia about it. the fear of being weak in front of anyone. it didn't help the fact that his emotions started to fade away, leaving nothing but a beast filled with RAGE & HATE towards his enemy : izuku ( now rival ). the guy who indeed had nothing but that was always there to help him, to stay by his side, though he was capable of dealing with his business all by himself. katsuki became so full of pride that he started to abuse izuku, the enemy he wanted to erase from his life. he abused him psychologically, insulting him, telling him to commit suicide, bullying him, hurting him physically, because he didn't need the help of a weak one like izuku. he didn't need to be PITIED by a guy who had nothing in his life & who still faught to be SOMEONE, better than him. that's what pissed him off. just how could this weak teen HELPING someone who needed no PITY & no helping since he was already the BEST ( besides to katsuki, izuku wasn’t even allowed to do so, since was nothing but a tiny ant compared to him. )

both of them have nothing in common or that's what most people like to see. but there is something that people FORGET & that's the important thing that make these two characters so similar between them. both of them are indeed : HEROES. ( they main goal is to be the NUMBER ONE with a different methods, of course ) & i can give you another hint about why these two look so different but are somehow alike, i'm talking about ALL MIGHT.

both admired all might, both of them always thought of him as the BEST HERO around, both of them LEARNED so much by him. katsuki learned his HERO IDEALISM about : " if you are a hero, you can't lose, because heroes don’t lose. " / izuku instead learned his HERO IDEALISM too about " if you are a hero, no matter what, you must protect the people who needs your help. " both of them learned from the same person but their OPTIONS, their views of things changed & if you look at them, both these idealisms complete the other. all might is exactly the incarnation of both : katsuki & izuku. someone who can't lose, because he is the SYMBOL OF PEACE, someone humanity count on & since he's the SYMBOL OF PEACE he would do everything TO PROTECT everyone, because that's what a hero does. besides all might himself said it in the manga; how these two characters, how these two kids are indeed alike, yet so different from each other. this is written in chapter 63 ( one of my favorite chapters about this manga ), look what all might said to them : " the moment the one hearts te other speak, each of their feelings, emotions, thoughts, they pile up on top of one another until they're left without any grasp of how to treat things between them from there. there's no way their relationship would resolve itself so soon, but . . . one day, without fail their COOPERATION here today, will surely LEAD to a GREAT LEAP FORWARD FOR THEM IN THE FUTURE. " i believe these words sum up everything i just said about katsuki & izuku right now.

i wanna finish this long ass shit by putting katsuki & izuku together. talking about their relationship for a moment, how it changed after their last fight around chap 118 / 119 / 120. now please look at those two characters, like i don’t even need to say how both of them helped each other without knowing it or better noticing it. how without one, the other wouldn’t be right where he is now. how without the other, one of them would still be shy & INSECURE af. how without the other one of them would still be BULLY & ARROGANT with everyone. both helped each other to change. katsuki helped izuku chaning his insecurities, teaching him how to swear ( bc that’s a thing izuku learned by watching katsuki & it’s canon i can assure you / just watch their last fight, around chap 120 & go to the part where izuku tells why sometimes he curses ). katsuki teached izuku how to stand, how to not FALL, because as i said before that's his HERO IDEALISM ( a hero NEVER falls, a HERO never LOSES ) & izuku learned it. izuku put that determination, that pure instinct of not "giving up" that admired so much about katsuki in himself. & about izuku, boi, oh boi, kacchan learned so much from this boy, so much. katsuki learned how to chill, yes guys, he fucking did ( look in the recent chapters & you will see, after their last fight, even tho you can tell me he learned it on his own well i say no, because i want to remind you that izuku himself is the ONLY ONE, the ONLY one who can help katsuki expressing his feelings & he did it, by fighting him in their last fight ). izuku not only is the first to notice things about kacchan but, it’s the first to go & help him, tho kacchan clearly don’t want his help, yet he indeed wants it. because as i said before izuku is the only one who can help kacchan expressing his feelings & his pain, since this guy never knew how to do so ( childhood lived with only praises didn’t help this kid at all ). both of them HELPED each other in so many ways, both of them indeed CHANGED the other & this appeared in their last fight. how katsuki asked, ASKED to be helped ( & to confirm his doubts but of course that was something he already knew ) & he know, he knew IZUKU was the only one who could help him out with his emotions, expressing his pain by fighting him, because again, this is the only way he knows to express his own feelings. izuku on the other side is the ONLY one who can understand katsuki, he's the only one who can fight at his same level, he's the only one who can UNDERSTAND him & because of his JEALOUSY / ADMIRATION towards him, he can't but ignore him ( besides that's his HERO IDEALISM TOO : " helping everyone like all might taught him. )

you see how these two wouldn’t do nothing withouth each other. they cleary need the support of each other, always but they would never admit it & most of the times they would never notice it. this is what i like about their relationship. this is what i really love about them. this simple complexity & affinity they create but that it's not easy to notice if you don't look into this characters. now i wanna leave you with this beautiful panel of my kids because this is basically what i looked for the whole time i wrote this shit out & i hope i explained myself well somehow. i probably vagued a lot but i can't shut up with these two. & now my dear i can finally say, YES, these two, katsuki & izuku are two sides of the same coin & i can't but be so proud of it.

REVIEW: The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2012) dir. Mira Nair Starring: Riz Ahmed, Liev Schreiber, Kate Hudson, Kiefer Sutherland Rating: 4.5/5

Review Summary: I’m not going to be friends with anyone who won’t watch this movie.

SOME SPOILERS AHEAD

The Reluctant Fundamentalist, based on the book of the same name by Mohsin Hamid shares the story of a Pakistani man living in America post-9/11. It opens with the kidnapping of an American professor, Anse Rainer, in Lahore, Pakistan. American journalist/CIA informant, Bobby Lincoln (Liev Schreiber), interviews Rainer’s colleague, Changez Khan (Riz Ahmed), who the CIA suspects is involved in the kidnapping.

Changez is a very intelligent and determined young man who moves to the United States to attend Princeton University on scholarship, and eventually, to New York City to work for a Wall Street valuation company, Underwood Samson. He works on a fairly diverse team and thrives very easily at the company, rising quickly to the level of Associate.

Changez also falls very deeply in love with a white American photographer, Erica (Kate Hudson) who he meets by chance one day by stumbling into her outdoor photoshoot of skateboarders.

After the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center by Al-Qaeda, Changez experiences many different forms of racism and Islamophobia. Immediately after the attacks, Changez and his co-workers are arriving back to New York from Manila, Philippines. There, he is subjected to a humiliating strip search by authorities which ends with the man inspecting his anus. The film portrays this in a way in which makes you focus entirely on how Changez feels humiliated and degraded.

The entire film does just such an amazing job of focusing on how deeply traumatic these experiences of racism and Islamophobia are for Muslims living in America. In addition to being strip-searched at the airport, Changez is also mistakenly arrested on the street after calls were made to the police about a different Pakistani man. He is interrogated intensely and not allowed to contact his lawyer. In another instance, his tires are slashed after a meeting and a white man pulls up next to him in the parking lot (assumingly the same man who slashed his tires), spits at him, and says “Fuck you, Osama!”

One scene that is particularly unnerving is when his girlfriend, Erica sets up an art show that is based on their relationship. It features several fetishistic elements and appropriates many aspects of Islamic culture. Changez is outraged when he sees it, feeling as if he was just a prop in her artistic endeavors. Riz Ahmed’s acting here is really amazing here too! (He is never one to shy away from political comments and recently released a song called “Englistan” about his experience as a British Pakistani man which you should listen to!) You can really feel Riz’s true emotion behind it. Here is the full reaction scene:

Full transcript Changez: You’re the one goddamn person I trusted in this city and now I get this shit. I get this fucking shit from you too, now? Hmm? Erica: I don’t...I thought...I thought...I thought you’d be proud of me. Changez: Why would I be proud? What? Proud of being your own little pet artistic project? Erica: Can we please take this outside? Changez: No, what? Was that the idea? Huh? How chic! How chic! “I’m gonna date a Pakistani after 9/11 and it’s gonna be great for my bohemian street cred!” Erica: That is completely unfair! Changez: “I fucked the 20th hijacker!” Huh? I’m like the ultimate downtown status symbol right now.

Another thing that The Reluctant Fundamentalist does that is interesting is display everyday microaggressions or ingrained Islamophobic ideals that we as Americans exhibit towards the Muslim community. Changez consistently has his name pronounced incorrectly and by people that he works with. These are people that he spends the majority of his day with and they can’t even learn how to pronounce his name - a name that is really not at all hard to pronounce even for the most redneck American. He gets called “Changes” or “Chain-jeez” multiple times.

By one coworker, he is even called Saddam on more than one occasion. Multiple coworkers comment on the fact that they dislike his beard and urge him to shave it, despite the fact that Changez says that it reminds him of where he comes from. These are things that Americans, particularly white Americans, do, sometimes without even realizing it. But still, The Reluctant Fundamentalist shows us that these things impact Muslims living in America negatively.

Furthermore, often while at work, after the attacks, Changez overhears his coworkers speaking ignorantly about Muslims. Here is how one conversation went down:

Wainwright: All I'm saying is, before I'd start a full F-16, tank-ass war against the entire Muslim world, I'd give the CIA, INTERPOL, whoever, a chance to track these motherfuckers down. Mike: We got hit first. It's Pearl Harbor all over again. It's common fucking sense. Wainwright: I'm not saying you're wrong, but what nation-state attacked us? Mike: Nation-state, my ass! You're splitting hairs. Wainright: Am I? Mike: Yeah. They believe God told them to blow us up. It's in their book. Wainright: It's in their book? Mike: Yeah. Whatever it's called.

The film does an incredible job of articulating how American patriotism can easily cross the line into xenophobia. I think that a major point to take away from this is that white fear and American nationalism breeds terrorism (though Changez is not a terrorist, that’s not what I’m implying). But, we as Americans ostracize Muslims to the point where we make them resent us. We tell them that America is the place where dreams come true and anyone can thrive, but then despise anyone who we don’t think fits our very Eurocentric standards. And when tragedy strikes or anything happens that makes us feel threatened, we blame anyone who looks like the people we are angry at. I think that Changez says it best himself:

Changez: You picked a side after 9/11: I didn’t have to. It was picked for me.

So, are there any negatives to the film? Only slightly. I found the present day plot with Anse Rainer a bit confusing to follow. I just think that it could have been simplified a bit for the film. And as for women in the film, of course, I wish there were more women because I literally always wish that there were more women. However, I was pleased with the way the women were represented. His sister Bina (Meesha Shafi) is a carefree and confident woman who dresses in her own unique style. It’s a contrast to the typical Muslim women that are typically displayed in Western media. We need more honest and real portrayals of Muslim women in popular media, which is why we really need more incredible filmmakers who are women of color like Mira Nair (Mississippi Masala, The Namesake).

I give this film a 4.5 out of 5 because I really think that the plot taking place in the present day was very confusing and hard to follow. That being said, this is truly one of the most incredible films I have seen recently. I’ve been so serious this whole review because I just couldn’t bring myself to try and be funny. This topic isn't funny. It demands to be taken seriously. I wish every single American, especially white American, could watch The Reluctant Fundamentalist. Maybe then we could understand our impact of the hatred and trauma that we inflict on Muslims living America every day.
