not to be too overdramatic about it but booktok is a curse upon this earth
it sucks double fold too; there are writers who are writing specifically to fill that booktok niche because it makes money, but for every writer who sends their queries off with trope buzzwords, there’s a writer who has them forced upon them by a marketing team and whose work will probably get overlooked by the intended audience because of it! I know I’m guilty of outright avoiding books i see marketed as a ‘booktok sensation’, and i can’t be the only one!
and don’t get me started about booktok influencers and the whole sprayed edges special edition need to produce merch of a book just to try and get in an audience, too! booktok is truly a scourge

Sometimes I get this urge to re-read Melissa Febos' Abandon Me and it makes me smile cause when I read it for the first time I would've never guessed it would be the kind of book I would want to re-read, but here I am, thinking about "Fear of abandonment begets abandonment. I gave myself away to solve the pain of his leaving and in doing so performed my own abandonment".

amazon kindle flipkart

Had I known it would be this hard to get out of, I wouldn't have started reading these chinese fictions. (Specifically speaking, the adept/gods/devil fantasy romance genre)

the way people online talk about autism is getting really weird, like do they know that neurotypicals still have interests? that someone being passionate about a hobby doesn't mean they're autistic? you guys know that right

that scene in tlo where thalia tells percy he can't start feeling sorry for luke bc luke made his choices. and thalia reveals that the reason they couldn't make it to camp in time for all of them to make it to camp was bc luke kept picking fights. and annabeth never saw this as wrong bc luke was her hero. so thalia had to pick up the pieces. and percy thinking both that luke was put in a cruel position and that luke was putting others in a cruel position. and percy is the only character who understood both sides of luke bc annabeth sees only the best of him and thalia sees only the worst. and that's why percy is the prophecy kid and the one who gives luke the knife. bc annabeth had spent the entire series essentially giving luke the knife when he didn't deserve it. and thalia was never going to give luke the knife. but percy is the only one who can see exactly when luke deserves the knife.

public libraries in the usa offering free digital library cards to people not in their areas (as of october 2023):
brooklyn (13-21yo us residents)
seattle (13-26yo us residents)
boston (13-26yo us residents, EDIT: just commonly banned books)
los angeles (13-18yo california residents)
san diego (12-26yo us residents, not the whole collection just commonly banned books)
these books unbanned cards (unless otherwise stated) get you access to each library's complete libby/cloud library collection, no hoopla/kanopy/physical copies included.
ebook collections are expensive to maintain (many american libraries have annual fees for non-residents because of this) but because of an uptick in book banning (particularly brutal in mississippi last summer) larger libraries have opened their doors more, which is very kind of them!
i've used my seattle card for the last several months and their libby collection has about three times the books that my local library does, which is wonderful for accessing more niche titles or skipping a waiting list. would love to hear of similar ebook initiatives internationally!
i use library extension (firefox/chrome/edge compatible) to check all my collections (+ the internet archive) at once, works for several different countries highly recommend it.
spotify seems to be offering 15hrs/month of audiobook listening to premium subscribers and while that does seem useful if you're already paying and are after a new release with a long library waitlist, libraries are better for everything else.

I think one reason Goncharov worked so well is that on tumblr you’re regularly being subjected to fandoms you’re not in and media you’ve never seen. I assumed the people i followed all just got really into some movie that I had no interest in and scrolled right past for a solid week before realizing.

This blog is a journal, a confessional, a little girl's secret diary protected by a big pink plastic lock, a scrapbook, a poem, a note left in haste on the margin of a favourite book's page, a footnote, a grandma cookbook, the revival of my teenage self's blog from the 2010s, a letter, a draft, an essay, the inscription behind a vintage postcard, the piece of a story yet to be completed, la mia storia.
This blog is also as bilingual as I am, and tho the preferred language is English, i could also sometimes be posting in Italian. Se passate di qui, lasciate un segno! :)

I was definitely captivated by the spark and allure with in these pages. I feel like all I need to say and all you should know before reading this book is that the first kiss sends electric currents through the pages and into the very soul of every romance book lover. And it only gets better from there.
Henry's writing possesses that very Emily Henry charm, she sprinkles banter and crafts characters in a way that leaves you wanting more. Every time I dive into her stories, my admiration for her grows, and my heart fills with joy.
These past few days have been a delightful indulgence. I have been delving into tales that have lingered on my TBR for far too long and have been unapologetically reading the works of some of my favourite authors (with a bit of non-fiction to keep myself on my toes). The liberation that comes from making time for these books has been exhilarating and I look forward to indulging some more throughout the rest of summer.
And finally, because this book is called Book Lovers, let me share a moment from my bookish escapades. I was about 75% into this lovely story, out in the wild at a downtown restaurant, when I caught the eye of another literary soul. She approached me as I tabbed yet another page of the book and we engaged in a wonderful conversation about how Henry's books serve as the perfect antidote for reading slumps (and life slumps too!).
Alright Book Lovers, what Emily Henry book should I read next?

ladybug makes the observation at some point that chat noir, at the ripe age of fifteen, acts like such a dad sometimes. like he'll comment about how she should really sit up straight while theyre chilling out after patrol, and he'll start bringing a pair of binoculars so he can birdwatch from their rooftop, and he'll do that thing where after she casually mentions she's been craving strawberies lately he starts bringing industrial amounts of strawberries for her every time they meet. and she just thinks, wow, this boy must come from such a wonderful family for him to be so cute.
so when he quietly admits to her one day that he hasn't hugged his own dad in years, in fact he's not even sure if his own dad really likes him very much, her heart shatters
