I like the idea that some of the grandkids develop separation anxiety towards Bruno for awhile after the events of the film.
Like, once they finally get used to him being part of the family again, they get nervous when he's gone for too long and think that he's gone-gone and not coming back.
And then poor Bruno has to spend a minimum of five minutes with his stressed out nieces/nephews being like-
"Camilito, I was just taking a walk around Casita."
And
"Mirabel, sobrina, I went to the bathroom."
And they're all like- "Haha! Yeah, no, totally, right? But maybe I could just hold onto you for a bit, and you could sit next to me for the next twenty minutes? W-Wouldn't that be funny, hahaha??????"

Can we please have a fic about Bruno being oblivious and getting thorns silence and death glares from his sobrinas due to them being on their period on Bruno not realising. When he finally realizes though he feels bad for them and decided to spend some time telling them stories of their mothers when they first got their own cycles, much to julieta and pepa's dislike
Welp - I finished my novel chapters, and a promise is a promise. It's not the situation OP asked for, but it's still period-based and I liked writing it, so I hope you enjoy.
“Mami, my tummy really, really hurts…”
“I know it does, mi vida.”
“It’s like, achey-sore.”
“I’ll make you another chocolate con queso after dinner, sweetheart – you can’t have too many or your teeth’ll fall out.”
“What’s up?” Bruno asked, as he passed the kitchen and heard his sister and oldest sobrina in conversation. Little Isabela – how was she ten already, he was holding her in her arms at her baptism just yesterday, right? – turned to him with the saddest puppydog eyes he’d ever seen.
“Tio Bruno, I’ve got my period and it’s really, really sore.”
“O-oh. I see.”
Julieta laid a hand gently on her daughter’s head. “We’ve been talking about how periods are a natural, normal thing, Tio Bruno.”
Which, you know, was true. Bruno just didn’t realise we were…there, yet. She’d be all grown up before he could turn around twice, at this rate.
“Julieta?” Mamá called, from the main hallway. “Is Isabela with you? I want her to come with me to the Guzmán’s house with me, to organise some arrangements for Mariano’s Mamá’s birthday party.” Isabela winced. Julieta squeezed her shoulder, guiding her towards the sound of her Abuela’s voice. “Mamá,” she started, “Isabela isn’t feeling too well.”
“I’ve got my period, Abuela,” Isabela added. “It’s really bad today.”
From the kitchen doorway, Bruno watched his Mamá glide down the stairs. Descending to give judgement. “Ay, mi vida,” she crooned, taking Isabela’s cheek in her hand. “You are a woman, now. All grown up.”
Julieta cleared her throat. “Oh, Mamá…”
“And, sometimes,” Isabela’s Abuela continued, in a voice so filled with kindness it made Bruno feel a little sick, “grown-up women like you have to do things that they would rather not. For the sake of their community. For the sake of the ones they care about. You don’t want to leave Mariano’s Mamá without flowers for her birthday, do you?” Isabela nodded with a hard swallow. “I know you don’t. Because you are a kind, brave young woman. So why don’t we walk down there together? You can hold my hand all the way, and squeeze it tightly if it hurts. Okay?”
Isabela looked at her Mamá. Her eyes looked wet with tears, even from the kitchen doorway. “Oh…o-okay –”
“A-a-actually, Mamá,” Bruno said, stumbling into the conversation, “I kinda needed to borrow Isabela today. We’re gonna, y’know, organise a surprise for lil’ Mirabel. To…celebrate her…learning to spell her name nice an' neat. Right, Isa?” Bruno widened his eyes at Julieta and Isabela – praying they took the hint. Julieta laid her hand back on her daughter’s head.
“That was right, Mamá. They’ve been planning it all week. You know how hard Mirabel worked on her spelling.”
“Yeah – hey, y’know what?” Bruno said, snapping his fingers, “I’ll take Isabela to the Guzmán’s tomorrow, nice and early. That okay, Isa? Then we can celebrate both…occasions.”
If there was one thing that trumped showing off to the neighbours in Alma Madrigal’s eyes, it was showing off to the neighbours twice in the same week. Mirabel learning to write and having the most perfect granddaughter in the Encanto? Fuhgeddaboudit. Bruno’s Mamá took the bait hook, line and sinker – as long as Bruno promised she’d go tomorrow.
“Hey, kiddo,” Bruno said to Isabela, once Mamá had safely been led away by Julieta. “Gimme, like, five minutes, and come knock on my door, ‘kay? Got a surprise for you.”
Isabela tugged him down to her height (a gap that was closing day by day). “I need to go to the bathrooom,” she whispered. "I need to change my pad."
“Okay. Gimme ten minutes, then. Do what you need to do, then come find your tio.”
Bruno watched her go. Then, he bolted to the kitchen, and then up to Isabela’s bedroom. Casita let him in, this once. The house knew it was extenuating circumstances.
When Isa finally made her way to her tio’s room, the entire ground level of the vision cave had been transformed. Bruno had draped one of her bedsheets – her favourite one, the purple one with the flowers on it – over two of his statues, so it made a little den. Her favourite dolls and pillows and books were in there, lying on a blanket, waiting for her to snuggle up with them. Bruno had brought down every single candle from the cave and lit them all, so the room was filled with nice smells and warm, cosy light. Isabela gasped, hands to her mouth.
“Tio it’s so pretty…!”
“Oooh, a-and, and! The best part…!”
Bruno produced a mug of chocolate con queso from behind his back; still steaming gently, warm and rich and just a little salty. “It’s not magic like your Mami’s, but it means we can sneak in one more before your medicinal…oof. H-hey, kiddo.”
Isabela had wrapped her arms around his middle, giving him as tight a hug as she could. “Thank you, Tio Bruno.”
“Anything for my baby sobrina. Now, c’mon over here and read me a story…”

Sooo, what if the Madrigals were a travelling circus?
Like, say Alma and Pedro were performers but from different circus families. Alma was a stunt woman/did very daredevil things and Pedro simply was a trapeze artist.
It was common for her and his family to compete against each other in different areas of the town they lived in. Their families knew each other pretty well, basically frenemy families.
Alma and Pedro were enemies to frenemies, frenemies to friends, then friends to lovers. After they became lovers (and married), they convinced their respective families to actually form one whole circus together.
After a WHOLE LOT of convincing their parents, they agreed, and became known as "Circo de magia familiar" (Circus of family magic). Everyone tried to get along the best they could and ended up pretty comfortable with each other.
Their big circus actually became more well known by half of Colombia and people started coming from all over the country. The whole Madrigal and Luz family became popular in under five years.
(I HC Alma's last name is Luz)
But with fame...comes its cons. Let's just say not everyone liked the circus family and well...you know what happened. The whole circus tent, train...just everything was destroyed.
You see, Alma and Pedro's family were full of bizarre people. Think the greatest showman if you've seen it. If not, think the bearded lady, muscle man, conjoined twins, etc.
So, people being people...yeah.
Alma was left with her triplets but thankfully a miracle happened and most of her and Pedro's family was still there. In the blink of an eye, both sides of the family were protected by a large circus tent.
Possibly like this (just without the balloons):
Tumblr media
And on the side of the tent, appeared a long train with lots of colors and warmth surrounding it. You can see the towers (top parts) of the tent as different rooms or areas like a house. Like Casita, but a tent.
Alma's remaining family: Her two (conjoined) aunts Maya and Sophia, her Tio Bernardo, her mother Dulce, younger cousin (eight) Jorge, her triplets, and her dog Chispa.
Pedro's remaining family: His parents Viva and Pepe, his sister Acacia and brother Julian, and his abuela carmen.
The whole family felt unsafe staying in the town they were in, so they decided to become a travelling circus. They had a train, why not go places with it? So, they took down the tent and hopped in the train, which is also like Casita. And also bigger on the inside.
Bruno gets his gift and acts as a fortune teller. He also helps come up with storylines for the performers to act. Julieta gets her gift and only uses her magic for her family. She does bake some snacks for the audience to enjoy though. Pepa gets her gift of indestructibility and becomes just like her mother with daredevil stunts.
(Fun fact: Pepa's concept version was actually supposed to have a gift of indestructibility, so I put that in here.)
Pepa and Julieta met their husbands by performing a few nights in their town. So, whenever they had the opportunity to stop in that exact town once in a while, the girls would visit them until eventually they got married.
The grandkids come along, and all the gifts are the same except for Dolores's, she gets the gift of playing whatever instrument she puts her hands on. She often helps the band out if one extra player who couldn't make it.
She also has a way to hear music from afar. One day in her tweens she heard a boy playing the guitar and singing, she followed the sound, and met Mariano.
And to Dolores' luck, his grandmother applied to the Circus as tightrope girl. She was pretty agile and knew ballet, so balancing wasn't that hard for her.
(There are also some other people who joined the circus. It's like a little village inside the tent/train. Mostly people who are seen as "freaks")
Mirabel doesn't have a gift, but she's still included in everything that's family. She's even learning how to do trapeze like Pedro did and scary stunts like Alma.
And she doesn't quite care that she doesn't have one either, most people in her abuela and abuelo's side of the family don't have gifts.
The way the family navigates shows is by holidays. Shows are 6 days before the exact holiday. On the exact holiday, everyone takes a break and celebrates it.
The most common ones they celebrate are Halloween, Christmas, Dia de los muertos, etc.
Everyone is happy in this au (I've been writing angst too much, and I need a break). Ok small very minuscule angst:
Alma doesn't like sitting in new towns no longer than a week at best, she's still a little traumatized from what happened so she doesn't like staying in places too long. She's a little afraid of that incident happening again.
EVERYONES HAPPY LETS GOOOOO
Love Austin where basically no one is sad or just in a state of paranoia. Love that, their so cool <333 personally i don't like tgsm but this au is so cool. Like it just reminds me of this one memory I've always had about going to the circus when I was younger.
And Alma's fear is warranted. And she doesn't take it to an extreme degree. Very reasonable, and I can get behind that.
LOVE THEM <33

Deceiver Chapter 1 - Villain Camilo au (rewrite)
Tumblr media
TW: Some cussing
As always likes, reblogs. and comments are appreciated. Questions are fine as well.
Special thanks to @miracles-and-butterflies and @evostar for the inspiration.
These past several months have been the best fun Camilo has ever had. He bonded a little more with his family and that's the best thing he could ever ask for. Pranking people with Isabela, games with Dolores & Antonio, relaxing/talking about whatever with Mirabel/Luisa, and writing stories with his new Tio Bruno. Ok, well he's not new but still.
Not only that, but he's not forced to perform or babysit some random kid anymore. Don't get him wrong, he loved performing and babysitting but...it was getting a bit much for him.
A few years after his ceremony, it became expected for him to perform. To make people laugh. So much so that people would actively seek him out in hopes for him to make them laugh.
After he turned nine, he was given children to babysit. A few cousins on his papa's side of the family. No biggie. But after that, word spread around the Encanto, and he just became the designated babysitter of the place.
2, 3, 4, sometimes six or seven kids at a time that he was forced to look after. And at the time, he couldn't refuse. The family image was on the line and wanted to make abuela the miracle proud.
So, he dealt with it. All the times he wanted to relax he had to perform to make crowds or kids happy. If you need an extra Luisa you can just go to him. He can’t mimic her build and the strength she would have without her gift to help carry or lift whatever you needed…To hell with his own relaxation.
“Hey, it's Camilo! Tell us a story,  we know you have a good one to share”
“I’ve been down lately, say something to lift my spirits”
“Say something funny, I'm so bored!”
Any time he tried to refuse he would be peer pressured into it. Or told how he was supposed to help. Sometimes he would get scolded if he said no too many times.
"You are a Madrigal for god's sake, you can't help me for a couple of hours?"
"Just take Elicia now, I'll be back in a couple of hours!"
"What's with the attitude?!"
"You watch that attitude young man, or I'll tell Alma how rude you've been."
And usually, when asked to go to a certain place, he usually has to be someone else.
"Hey, I need you to be me for a couple of hours. I do not want to go to that wedding"
"Can you be me at my sister's birthday party? I really don't want to go"
"I need you to be me and go on a date with my girlfriend. She's really been getting on my nerves lately and I just need to break"
"You're Camilo Madrigal, right? Turn into Isabela and do something funny"
Just constant pressure to be that happy go lucky town jester, doppelganger, and babysitter. Not to mention that his gift was taxing on his body. Every shift took more energy out of his body but how was he supposed to explain that? To children especially?
All the food he ate would barely even give him the energy he needed because he would be out of it two hours after breakfast or lunch.
There were days where just wanted to pass out from exhaustion, but he couldn't, you know why? Because he was Camilo Madrigal, Alma Madrigal's grandson, a bearer of the Miracle his abuelo died to give.
He was never allowed to be sad, angry, or any version of upset. Just a happy sunshine boy who would make you smile if you demanded asked him to. Camilo can’t even remember when he actually let himself feel anything besides joy.
But after the magic left...that all stopped. And even when someone tried to pin a child on him, one of his parents, sister, or primas would shoo the person away in their own way.
Things were getting so much better for him and the family as a whole. Sure...there are some issues that haven't been said on Camilo's part but...he has all the time in the world to say something right?
He has all the time in the world to tell his family that he has trouble understanding who he is. How he has trouble seeing who the person is in the mirror when he looks at it. When he looks in the mirror he’s too scared to see whether it’s himself or someone else hiding underneath.
How he still has issues letting himself feel negative emotions but…the magic isn't going to come back to distract everyone. So everything is going to go great.
-
Camilo watched as his hermanito gave Mirabel the doorknob. His smile widened and his heart swelled at the wholesome sight. As she walks up to it, they all come close.
"We see how bright you burn"
He sings with his family. He, his Hermana, and parents smiled warmly at her.
"We see how brave you've been"
"Now see yourself in turn"
Mirabel's sisters and parents do the same. Everyone in the family, including Abuela, looks at her proudly. She finally makes it up to the new family door. Tio bruno now stands beside tia julieta and tio agustin. Man, has he grown since the start of all this. Still a little skittish and scared of people but he’s genuinely trying and making progress.
All of them stay behind her, silently showing that it's her time to shine. She puts the doorknob in the hole and as soon as she does, magic sparks from it. Camilo's heart raced with fear...this isn't happening. He watched as the magic swirled around the house and all over the Encanto. Feeling the magic pulsate through his veins again.
No.
No. No. No. No. No. No! No! No!
NO!
This can't be happening right now. Not after all this time, it can't be. The magic felt agonizingly warm within his body. He never wanted to feel this warmth ever again in his entire life.
"Hola Casita!" Mirabel smiled and waved at the home.
The happy house started making music with its tiles, doors, windows, and anything else it could finally control again. With so much excitement, Casita bounced the stone floor under Mirabel and welcomed her in first.
"Come on! Get in here!"
youtube
Casita did the same for everybody and slid everyone in using the ground they stood on. The joy was ultimately infectious to everyone but Camilo. He was still trying to process what the hell was going on.
"Calm down Camilo, our gits aren't back. It's just Casita, that's all" He thought to himself as everyone was piled in. "Surely, they wouldn't come back...right?"
Boy was he wrong, one by one, gift by gift. Isabela got her flower powers, Antonio could speak to his animals, Luisa got her super strength back. Pepa was happily dancing with small bits hail over her head. Felix cheering her on as always.
That must mean...no, no no no, it didn't. It couldn't have. He's happily gift less.
But he knew his gift was back. He could feel it in his very soul. Camilo was scared, frightened even. Does this mean things will go back to how it used to be?
Was he going to be the town jester and doppelganger and babysitter again? Was he now going to constantly be told to be someone other than himself?!
No, no, he won't let that happen.
Camilo looked around at the scene. Everyone seemed so happy and jovial while he was in a state of turmoil. Milo was feeling overwhelmed. He has to make this stop. He has to-
Suddenly, the tiles under his feet moved him to the center of the courtyard. Snapping him out of his thoughts.
Wait, what's happening?! he thought as his eyes looked around confused. The family all posed as the camera was brought out and bounced over to them with a rat on top of it.
"Everyone together!" Alma said cheerfully
Huh?!
"La Familia Madri-" Everyone was cut by Casita making them all huddle in too close together. Resulting in a funny but cute family photo.
After the family broke apart a little bit, Milo was given some space to think. If you could call it that. His mind was practically racing with all those horrible memories of how things used to be.
Dolores looked at him as she heard his heart racing. To be fair, everybody's hearts were racing but she was the closest to him at the moment.
She looked at his face. He wasn't smiling. He looked perplexed to say the least...and a little scared. Which was odd, this was supposed to be a joyous moment right?
She stepped a little closer to him and put her hand on his shoulder. A small way to get his attention.
"Milo...you okay?" She asked softly and quietly, he was close enough for him to hear but quiet enough for others to barely acknowledge.
There's no candle...nothing to snuff out. Nothing to make the magic go away. It's going to happen all over again. No one is going to want me for me anymore. I have to get rid of it. GET RID OF IT! GET RID OF IT! But how?! Did Mirabel bring it back? no...wait, the doorknob...THE DOORKNOB-
"Camilo?!"
Dolores spoke a little bit louder as she nudged his shoulder. Camilo looked at her in shock and looked around. His heart was still going rapidly.
"Camilo are you alright?!" She asked him while she looked into his eyes. She saw panic in his eyes, and he wasn't saying anything...he must be having a panic attack.
Her concerned voice alerted her parents Pepa looked at her son and stepped a little closer, putting her hand on his cheek.
"Mijo, are you okay?"
Camilo finally snapped out of his thoughts "I- I uh...yeah, I'm just...shocked is all" he chuckled nervously. Which wasn't a lie, he was shocked.
"Your heart was going really fast milo, are you sure-"
"I'm sure Dolores!" Camilo answered with a slightly irritated tone. He didn't mean that. Quick idiota, change your attitude "Heh....I'm okay, I'm happy"
Ok, very odd. He was telling the truth but there was something he wasn't saying. Dolores, Pepa, and Felix could see it.
"Mijo...if there's something wrong you can say it." Felix said sincerely.
"I'm fine papa, really"
The party continued and everything was going well. Camilo joined in on the fun as well. But only to appear just as happy as everyone else was. But on the inside, he was feeling everything but happy.
"The magic is back now" a voice in his head said.
"You know what that means," Another voice said.
"Everything will go back to how it used to" another said.
"You're going to be the villages Mamita and bufón again"
"It'll all go back to everyone never wanting you, just someone who doesn't even act or look like you"
What is happening?! Where are these voices coming from...why are they saying this to me... Camilo thought to himself.
"We're saying it because it's true milo. Everything is going to go back to normal...unless you take that doorknob out of the front door of course."
This was becoming very concerning to him...but he felt like they were right. He didn't want to go back to that, he can't go back to that! He needs that doorknob gone.
When he noticed the attention wasn't on him, he snuck out to the front of the house and stood in front of the door.
It was a happy little door. It had everyone on it as a family. Cami couldn't deny that it was a sweet sight. But he wasn't really in the mood right now for sentimental value. He looked down at the doorknob, staring into it intently. It glowed so beautifully with that 'M' carved into it. Oh, how he hated it.
"Go on!"
"I can't!"
"Just take it already!"
"What if it doesn't work?"
"You want to go back to how things were? At least try it!"
Camilo internally argued with himself for a few more seconds until he reached out and gripped out. He tugged softly the first time, no budge. He tugged harder, still, it didn't budge.
“Puta madre!! Why Mirabel, WHY?! You just have to fuck everything up don’t you?!” Camilo seethed to himself. There was definitely no way of removing the magic this time. That doorknob more than likely wouldn’t budge unless Mirabel herself wanted to remove it.
He wanted to cry, he wanted to scream, to punch something ANYTHING! This isn’t fair. He can’t go back to being other people! He can’t go back to babysitting every kid in Encanto without a choice in the matter.
“I don’t even know who I am at all and it’s all their fault! Those soul sucking ungrateful villagers. I never even got a thank you for watching their kids! Never a “thank you” for pretending to be someone else for them! I'm not going to let anyone force me back into that corner, EVER! I will burn this entire encanto DOWN to the ground before that happens again!”
Camilo’s heart was racing fast as he stared at the glowing door. Those smiles were so adorable…so mocking. He looked at the glowing version of himself “drawn” onto the door. He reached up to it and touched it.
The door felt sickeningly warm to the touch. He could feel the music from inside vibrating off of it. Milo took his hand away with a scowl etched into his lips. He chuckled but there was no joy in it. Only disdain.
Before he could think anything else the door swung open and hit him straight in the face, knocking him down.
“OW!” Camilo groaned as he sat up off the ground clutching his face.
“Huh? Oh sorry Milo, I didn’t know you were there” A voice said apologetically. Camilo instantly recognized it as Isabela’s.
He looked up and saw her. She was completely covered in a variety of pollen colors but the most obvious one was dark blue. She held her hand out and Camilo begrudgingly took it. Next to her was a giddy and bouncy Antonio.
“Did you kick the door open?!” He said as he rubbed his hurt nose.
Isabela shrugged, “Yeah, lo siento. Now come on, Casita said that some of us have new additions to our gifts. Antonio wants you to try something”
Camilo looked down and was met with Antonio’s beaming face, “Cami! Dolores can turn her gift off when she wants too, that’s so cool right?! Isabela can make all kinds of plants now, even poisonous ones! I’m not sure what I or mama or Luisa can do yet but I want you to try something!”
Camilo took in all of that information and reminded himself that he wasn’t smiling, so he pretended that he was just as happy as Antonio, “Oh really? Well, what do you want me to try?”
“Try shapeshifting into animals por favor!”
Milo was taken back by that, animals? He remembered trying that once as a kid and nothing happened.
“I- I don’t know tonito-”
“Pleeeeeease!” Antonio begged with that adorable smile and big eyes. Who can say no to that
Camilo sighed and kneeled down to be at his hermanito’s level “fine, any specifics?”
“A jaguar, like Parce!” Antonio bounced with anticipation and joy.
The teen boy looked up at Isabela, who just shrugged and put a hand on her hip as she waited. He looked back down at Antonio and stood back up.
“Well…worth a shot” Camilo shrugged and closed his eyes.
Milo focused on the image of Parce in his head and breathed a deep sigh. His eyes closed and breathing calm. After ten seconds he opened his eyes. He looked at Antonio and up at Isabela, then down at the ground.
Paws…he sees paws! He tried to circle around but he would just trip over himself seeing as it’s the first time he’s walking in cat form. But that didn’t deter him at all. He was ecstatic.
“I- I did it! I turned into jaguar! I can shift into animals-”
“Pffft-” Isabela snickered and Antonio giggled at the sight. Camilo assumed it was because he was walking funny. Nope.
“You missed a spot primo!” Isabela pointed at her face
“Que?”
“Your head isn’t a jaguar head. And you have a human backside” Antonio giggled. In a quick pace, tonito asked Casita to open the front door. The house obliged and did what it was asked. Before Camilo could get a word out Antonio shouted that everyone come see Camilo in a jaguar form.
“No wait! Don’t!” Milo wasn’t a fan of his weird shifting quirks. They always acted up at the worst times and he hated it. Now was one of those times. The more he tried to shift back into any other animal or just himself he would just shift into a different animal with strange human likeness.
By the time people were outside they saw the amalgamation that was a half donkey, horse, and teenage boy. It caused people, especially his family, to laugh at this shifting quirk. It was causing him to panic and shift more uncontrollably.
He didn’t want this, he didn’t want to be the town entertainment again. Milo stopped to focus on the ground. In this form his legs looked to be a donkey's legs, horse torso, and a capybara face with his normal hands and hair.
Alma came up to him with tears in her eyes as she chuckled, “aye milo, still trying to make everyone laugh I see”
This isn’t happening right now…it couldn’t be. He wanted this to be a horrible dream but all of it felt too real to be. The laughs were so loud and annoying. His heart was beating really fast and all he could do was just look around in embarrassment.
Pepa saw the panic in his eyes and her smile quickly faded, as well as her rainbow. She quickly walked over to him. Felix noticed her expression and followed suit.
Pepa stood by him and patted his head in order to calm him down “Cami, you alright?”
Camilo looked up at her and looked back at everyone else. He was not okay. He needed to not be the center of attention right now. He tried to shift into his human form but that just caused so much more embarrassment for him.
Not to mention that all of this unorthodox shifting was hurting him. His bones and skin just shifted into so many things so many times. It was painful.
Please stop! Please stop! Please stop! Please stop! Please stop! PLEASE STOP! He thought to himself. With a final scream of frustration he finally shifted back into himself. He checked himself over. Normal hands, normal face, normal body, normal feet.
His breathing was quick and uneven. His heart beating a thousand beats per second. And…he was crying. Tears were falling down his cheeks and his body was shaking.
“Camilo” Felix looked down at his son with concern and bent down to pick him up by the arm. “Hey, hey mijo! Breath, look at me!”
The teen couldn’t hear him. In fact, Camilo could still hear and see the villagers laughing at him. Even if they weren’t anymore. The laughter got louder and louder to him, never stopping.
This frightened Camilo and he ran past all of them. Pushing and knocking over whoever he can to get inside Casita. The voices calling out to him were unheard as he rushed up Casita’s stairs and into his room.
It was still the same as it used to be. A large theater with a big stage. The only difference was that the lights were much brighter than they used to be. And they were directly on him and followed his every movement as he ran past the audience seats and on top of the stage.
He moved the curtain back and his old king sized bed was there with all of its yellow, orange, and red pillows, blankets, and sheets. On the right of his bed was a large rectangular mirror with the classic round light bulbs decorating all sides of it.
“Casita…please,” Camilo whimpered as tears fell down his cheeks. Laughter was still echoing in his head. “Make it stop!”
He covered his ears like his hermana used to when noise became too much for her.
Why is this happening to me?! I just want things to be normal! Why can’t I be normal, why can’t this family be normal?! Camilo fell to his knees and tightened his hold on his head.
Why did Mirabel have to touch that fucking doorknob! This is all her fault, her fault, her fault, HER FAULT! Everything was fine before that. My life was going to be normal and now it’s back to how it was! Those people are going to use me again…no…
Camilo’s eyes widened as he stumbled upon a thought, “Those people…those ungrateful ass people! How dare they laugh at me?! After all the turmoil I went through to make them happy…that’s how they repay me”
The teen boy chuckled, then giggled, and soon he started to laugh. Loudly and Maniacally. This was it, Camilo finally snapped.
“I’ll make them pay”
On the outside of his room, Dolores was downstairs at the kitchen table trying her best to listen in on her hermano. But she couldn’t hear anything. She did hear him crying but then it just stopped as quick as it started. The only thing she could hear was his heart beat. There was a thought that he was just doing this to get attention but Camilo would never do that.
“Do you hear anything?” Pepa asked with concern in her voice. The only reason she didn’t barge into his room is because Felix stopped her. He wanted to see him too but didn’t want to overstep a boundary.
Dolores shakes her head, “No, mama his room is soundproof”
Antonio looked up at his hermana and parents, “Is he gonna be ok?”
Felix looked down at his youngest son sympathetically, “He’ll be ok mijo, he was just uh…a little embarrassed”
“A little my ass” Pepa thought to herself as she was stroking her braid. A small gray cloud over her head.
“He was crying though” Antonio doubted and sank back into his chair a little bit.
The table went quiet as everyone went into deep thought. He looked really panicked, hurt (both physically and emotionally), and embarrassed. Most of them thought he may have been having a panic attack but Dolores informed them his heart rate has slowed down. Which was also a calming thing to know for her as well.
“If I was in his situation I would’ve cried and ran off too” Bruno admitted quietly as he fiddled with his fingers.
Camilo breathed in a deep sigh and stared at himself in the mirror. For once in a long time, Camilo saw his face staring back at him. He was sure of himself now…and knowing that put a sinister smile on his face.
He tilted his head as he noticed something…man he needed a wardrobe change.
I need a better style than this. Oh! I know Mami and Dolores would love to help me with that! Tonito and Papi would too. Milo stood up and walked away from the mirror, swiping the curtains out of his way and walked down the stage stairs.
Once he made it out of his room he closed his door lightly and leaned his back on it.  A big and chipper smile appeared on his lips. A soft and happy voice to go with it.
“Dolores, can you and Mami come upstairs please? I want a makeover”

Here’s some revisions I did after seeing some of the ideas (there are obviously some flaws but I tried). Also, these ideas you guys had are amazing and my brain is BRAINING!!!
Season one - Centering the triplets as they grow up and Alma nearly losing her mind. The full season would be 20+ episodes and 20 minutes long. Also includes young Agustin and Felix.
Season two - First ten episodes ending with the triplets (Pepa’s wedding) and the last ten with the grandchildren growing up. (And expanding on the changes that happened after Mirabel’s ceremony.)
This season and mid season three would expand on how some relationships dwindled and just different dynamics and such. Maybe some post-movie bonding.
Season three - First ten episodes ending with post-movie grandkids/ before Antonio’s birth month. The last ten centering on the actual healing through Casita’s collapse. Mirabel’s parents, sisters, and Primo's reaction to Mirabel’s disappearance. And the reaction to Bruno coming back and how they all felt.
And more bonding among family members and an introduction to extended ones on Agustin and Felix’s side of the family. Like honestly, what about their other cousins? grandparents? Tias & Tios? Nephews and nieces? We need more of them too.
Over the course of the series a trading & transport system is created for people to safely get in and out of the Encanto to the nearest town. They do explore outside The Encanto/see how far the gifts go. Culture shock.
Obligatory "the oldest granddaughters go out and shenanigans happen." also Camilo and Mirabel spy/tag along.
Season four - first twelve episodes are going to be character-centric and full of shenanigans. In every episode Luisa tries a new hobby in the B/C plot and it goes a different direction each time.
Obligatory halloween episode where the grandchildren tell each other scary stories of the outside world.
Episodes 18  could possibly surround the Triplets birthday. Episode 19 could be the Valentine's day episode with the yellow couple, blue couple, and Dolores’ relationship with Mariano.  Could also involve the other grandkids talking to their crushes or asking them out. Just a full day of wholesome love.
Episode 20 could be a BIG family game night with extended family involved.
Season five - Finale season (A few years into the future maybe?)
Mariano goes with the other granddaughters out of the Encanto to get the best engagement ring for Dolores (because only the best of the best is good for her). Camilo and Antonio tag along and they get into trouble. Dolores hears everything and goes to bail her boyfriend and cousins/brothers out.
Day of little candles themed ep where alma and the family go to the river and alma tells them all about pedro. Also flashbacks of before dos oruguitas and Alma telling her family how proud she is of them all.
Mirabel (possibly seventeen or eighteen) looks back on how far the family has come while working on Dolores’ wedding dress.
Season ends with Dolores and Mariano getting married!
Notes: Yes, the theme song would be like the family madrigal, new outfits every other episode, in each episode a part of the diverse Colombian culture could/should be explored. (food, music, dancing, fashion, history, etc).  Songs are a must and Lin Manuel Miranda will be the one who worked on them. I won’t let anyone else attempt to mimic his style of music when he can just be hired. I’m sure he would like to work on the story anyway.
I think 24 episodes instead of 20 would be a bit better plot and story wise. Maybe each could be 25 minutes each too? Also, if Disney is willing to not have a stick up their ass, I would like the series to be animated in Disney’s renaissance era style. Like the Hunchback of Notre dame, Brother bear, Lion king, Treasure planet, and Tarzan. I’m NOT accepting anything less.
It could also be a Tradigital (both computer and hand drawn) style like Tarzan/Hunchback of Notre dame! 3D backgrounds painted to look 2D with the characters actually being traditionally drawn. This would especially be cool to look at in Antonio’s room and just Encanto in general.
TONS OF DISNEY  EASTER EGGS! “Wish” kind of didn’t do it right at all so I think Encanto can do it better.  Honestly I should’ve just asked the Encanto community for help instead of just struggling by myself. YOU GUYS ARE AMAZING!!! If I’m ever able to pitch this to Disney and actually make this become true I will credit ALL OF YOU!!!
Also, I’ve noticed how poorly Disney marketed Treasure planet, Princess and the frog, and strange world (most are allegedly poorly marketed) and by god I WILL NOT let them poorly market this.
Lastly, I think the series could have a full six seasons because there are so many ideas that I want to add and don’t want anyone’s idea left out. Plus, there’s just so much one can do...
thanks to @midcanto @mirabels-miracle @droppingdonkeys @slayyyysworld @teawizard and you of course for the ideas!
mirabel😭making😭dolores😭wedding😭dress😭
I love these ideas so much!!! in a better universe this exists and in the Number 1 fan!!! I love when this fandom is creative and all come together!!

Encantober 2023 Day 27: Grave
The lake near the Encanto was considered a special memorial for Alma. She considered it to be Pedro’s grave, since that was where he died and the miracle was born. Alma would visit the lake often to remember Pedro and have taken the triplets there on several of their birthdays to remember him.
The day after the triplets’ fifty-first birthday, Alma decided to bring the entire family to the lake to have a memorial service together. She wanted to do one for a while, but when Bruno disappeared, she felt like she could not do so. Now that Bruno was back, she decided this year was the best time to take her sons-in-law and grandchildren to the lake where Pedro died and the miracle was born.
Once the Madrigal family got to the lake, Alma brought a big box with her filled with lots of things, but she did not tell the rest of the family what was in there. They were for each part of the memorial service, and she would reveal them during each part. The rest of the Madrigals set up some towels to sit on, since they were having lunch together there too.
Once the family got settled down, Alma stood at the center of the family’s towels so everyone could see her. “Family, after ten years of waiting and planning, we can finally commemorate the life of Pedro Madrigal with the entire family.” The rest of the family applauded during the break of silence. “We will start this memorial with a speech from Bruno Madrigal, since we waited for him to come back to do this.”
Bruno stood up and the rest of the family applauded again once he stood next to his mother. “Gracias, mami, first of all, I just want to address how happy I am to be back. When Mirabel found me in the walls, I didn’t want to say anything to her, but now that she promised to bring me back home when she saved the miracle, I can say that coming back was the best decision I ever made. When mami first took Julieta, Pepa, and me to this lake the day after our gift ceremony, I couldn’t comprehend what was happening. None of us did, but I was the least verbal at the time, so I couldn’t verbalize what I was feeling.”
The family applauded when Bruno paused. “When mami told me she wanted to do this for several years and waited for me to come back to do it, that was when I realized how important I really was to this family. Mirabel, you were the one who made me realize how important I was to this family and made me understand how my disappearance has affected this family negatively. Gracias, sobrina.”
The family applauded as Mirabel stood up and made her way to Alma and Bruno. “Gracias, Tio Bruno; while I do understand the feeling of being useless to the family, But when Abuela affirmed that Abuelo sent her me to help this family, that was when I also knew how important I was to this family, and wanted Bruno to know the same thing.”
The family applauded one more time before Mirabel and Bruno sat back on their towels. Alma brought out the box and stood back in the center. She took out a small candle from the box and held it up for the rest of the family to see. She walked closer to the lake and turned around for the family.
“As you know, the miracle is represented by the candle. The candle also represents the legacy that Pedro has left for us. I have one candle for each of us to say something we wish we could experience with Pedro.”
Alma turned around and kneeled down and put the candle near the water. “I wish I would have experienced the growth of our children and grandchildren together.” She then released the candle into the water. “I now want to do this in age order with my blood relatives. Married relatives will go after their spouses.”
Julieta stood up and grabbed a candle from the box. They all took one and kneeled down and said what they wished they could have experienced with Pedro. They each went in age order with the spouses going after their spouses, starting with Julieta and ending with Antonio.
“I wish I could have had you as a father figure to guide me through my life.”
“I wish I could have gotten to know you as a father-in-law.”
“I wish I could have had the father daughter relationship with you that I craved for so long and guide me through my feelings.”
“I wish I could have gotten to know you and guide me through the Madrigal family.”
“I wish I could have had you around to share the plays I wrote and been my support system throughout my life.”
“I wish I could have had you to share my flowers with.”
“I wish I could have had you to tell secrets with and share what was on my mind.”
“I wish I could have come to you for comfort when I was stressed.”
“I wish I could have had fun with you and joke around with you.”
“I wish I could have had you to look up to and guide me through my life.”
“I wish I could have played with you and shared fun memories with you.”
Once each family member shared their wish for Pedro, they each put their candle on the water and watched them float away. They backed away from the lake to watch the candles float away and put their arms around each other.
“Each of you had a wish for Pedro you wanted to give. Each of them were unique to your own experiences and wished to share memories with him.”
For the rest of the day, the family gave speeches about what they thought Pedro would have been like if he lived to see and raise them, and during lunch, Alma talked about all the best memories she had with Pedro when they were married and dating. It was the best remembrance Alma ever had for Pedro, now that she has her entire family remembering him together for the very first time.

Carlos Madrigal
I read a theory, (by @silverloreley) that went through possible options for the VKs’ other parents. For Carlos, one idea was Bruno Madrigal (inspired in part by my fanfiction Jinxed!!!).
The idea being, Bruno got sent to the Isle, and then he and Cruella had Carlos. Carlos and Bruno do have some similar personality traits.
On the one hand, that’s not what’s going to happen in Jinxed, where Bruno got sent to the Isle.
On the other hand....I really like that idea.
What if Carlos was Bruno’s son?
Then Carlos de Vil would be Carlos Madrigal, ha.
Bruno shows up back at Encanto after 20 years with Carlos in tow. Carlos gets to meet his grandmother and aunts and uncles and cousins.
Now, Carlos canonically has a cousin named Diego de Vil (probably the son of Cecil de Vil). I also like to imagine Hunter and Ivy de Vil existing in the Descendants universe as well. So Carlos doesn’t really see the the Madrigals as family, at first. Except for his father.
Bruno and Pepa and Julieta spend all their time together. Carlos gets lumped in with Mirabel and Camilo a lot, since they’re about the same age. (Camilo: “You mean before Antonio was born I wasn’t the only boy?”)
Antonio is very excited to have a new tio and cousin. His new tio is spending all his time with his parents? Okay then! He’ll talk to his new cousin instead! He can talk to his pet dog for him!
Carlos feels awkward and out of place. He doesn’t know them. They’re loud. They’re happy. Julieta keeps fussing over him with food. Sure, he likes them, but he doesn’t feel like they’re family, not like his de Vil cousins.
Bruno, meanwhile, is struggling to A. reacclimate to his family after 20 years gone, B. get to know the entire new generation of nieces and nephews, C. readjust to having visions again after 20 years of not having them on the Isle (probably), and D. incorporate Carlos as part of the family.
Like, he grew up with his family. Then he got sent to the Isle. For 14-16 years, however old Carlos is, Carlos was Bruno’s only blood relative on the Isle, and Bruno did his best to take care of him. Carlos was his only family. Now they’re both back home (but is it home for Carlos?) and Bruno’s two separate families are now one...or they’re trying to be.
What would Carlos’ gift be? (Which Mirabel is not jealous about. Nope. Not at all.)
Then at some point, Carlos’ de Vil cousins show up.

Kind of a part 2 to the baby Dolores being fond of Bruno: baby Mirabel also being fond of Bruno and the adults joking he is the baby whisperer.
Best Tio Bruno 👏👏👏
Tumblr media
Bruno was good with the kids and the whole family would acknowledge it. Even Alma, who rarely gave outright praise, said that Bruno was good with his nieces and nephew.
They also knew he was Dolores's favourite. After her parents, he was the closest with her; she'd forever follow him around, clinging to his ruana.
And now it seemed that baby Mirabel, only a few months old, was following in her cousin's footsteps. She'd been oddly clingy all day, wailing whenever Julieta or Agustín put her down. In the end, however, they had duties to attend to and Julieta passed a screaming Mirabel to Bruno.
For a moment, Bruno froze. No one in La Casa Madrigal was a stranger to screaming babies (God knew they could burst your eardrums) but Mirabel was always such a cheerful little thing that he floundered.
She didn't need feeding or changing. Julieta said it was way too early to be teething. Mirabel just seemed to be having an off day.
Well, Bruno could relate.
"I know, I know," he said quietly, trying not to rock her too desperately. "Everything's a bit much right now, huh?"
Mirabel outright screeched.
"Same, bébé, same," Bruno sighed. Quietly, he began to hum his papá's song, Dos Oruguitas. It usually did the trick.
As expected, it once more worked its magic. As Bruno slowly paced the courtyard, gently rubbing Mirabel's back and humming, her screaming and sobs slowly stopped. She fell into an exhausted sleep, only stirring when Bruno finally sat in the living room. She scrunched up her little nose but once she realised she was still being held, she fell back asleep.
Yep, just an off day. Just a clingy day.
Fair enough, Bruno supposed.
He ended up falling asleep himself, only waking to the sound of Pepa's giggles. She stood in the doorway, sunshine radiating from her and Camilo in her arms.
"Are you sure babysitting isn't your real Gift?" she asked, careful to keep her voice down.
"Nope," Bruno said. "That's acting."
"You wish, Bruno." Her gaze softened. "You're good with them. All of them."
Bruno, never the best at taking compliments, shyly smiled. "Gracias," he said, as Mirabel continued to doze against his chest, her tiny hands clutching his ruana like a lifeline.

Prompt - Antonio says his first swear. The rest of the family accuses one another for teaching him that. Turns out it was none of them; it was actually the dead fish lady.
It came with a clash of thunder.
"ISABELA MADRIGAL!"
Said Madrigal yelped, grabbing at her newest cactus as her tia loomed over her. This one was her baby, hand grown without magic. "Watch the rain! You'll drown them!"
"Do you think I care?! You taught Antonio a swear!"
Her eyes went wide with shock at the fact that Antonio, little Antonio, had sworn. But then Isabela pushed it down, more struck with disbelief at the accusation. The eldest grandchild slammed her hands on her hips and glared back at her redheaded tia. "How do you know it was me?! Mirabel could've taught him!"
Her sister, cradled under a small ceiling that Casita had formed the moment Pepa had stormed into the room, looked up from her latest sewing project. "Hey!"
"Mirabel once put herself into timeout when she said Miercoles in front of Antonio because she thought it was a swear," Pepa said, flashing a smile at her younger sobrina. She crossed her arms. "And remember your little performance yesterday?"
Daisies immediately blossomed to life in Isabela's hair.
To be fair, cussing out the boy who refused to take Dolores' "No." in the middle of the town square shouldn't have been the best way. But it got him to leave her alone. Plus, it had shut up everyone who had been whispering about missing the old Isabela. She scrambled. "Then...Bruno!"
"Tio Bruno thinks swearing is bad luck," Mirabel pointed out. "I think Camilo's a more likely suspect."
"Hey!" Camilo, holding a wooden spoon, poked his head in from the kitchen. "I wouldn't!" Pepa turned and he dropped the spoon to immediately hold up his hands in defense. "I swear, Mami! What about Tia Julieta!?"
"HEY!" Isabela and Mirabel shouted together, both faces flushing with anger in defense of their mother.
Camilo glared them back down. "It's true! Yesterday she cursed so much when she accidentally burnt her hand!"
A throat cleared. Julieta crossed her arms and stared down Camilo. "Yet I still let you help me in the kitchen." Another roll of thunder made her sigh. "Pepa, maybe ask your husband or Mama."
"What'd I do?" Felix stared at the mini thunderstorm. Behind him, Bruno and Agustin peeked in. All three must've just come back from grocery shopping, based on the produce they held.
"Antonio cursed," Mirabel explained.
Felix immediately held up his hands, dropping the basket of eggs he held. Nobody paid attention to them cracking. "Oh, no. Not me. I'm under threat of sleeping on the couch after what happened with Dolores." Nobody was willing to blame Dolores because... it was Dolores. And Luisa didn't even know how to curse.
A throat cleared and everyone turned. Alma Madrigal stared all of them down. "And, why," She turned to Julieta. "Would you turn it was me?"
Julieta held her stare. "The card game." Abuela blushed as Felix whistled in agreement and Pepa and Bruno nodded. The grandchildren blinked as Mirabel made a mental note to ask Bruno. "And Agustin...well he knows cursing is reserved for our room."
Her husband sputtered as Isabela made a face. "Kinky," Mirabel whispered and held up her hands at Abuela's look.
Pepa looked ready to burst. Lighting popped and fizzed and hit the wall, creating a small smoking crater that Casita immediately covered up. "Who then?! Who taught mi angel such vile words?!"
“It wasn’t any of them!”
All heads turned. Antonio, the very picture of innocence, stared down from the back of Parce. His eyes were wide and full of tears, upset at his mother's own upset. “It was the weird fish lady,” he said.
The thunderstorm shrank into itself almost sheepishly. “R-” Pepa’s voice cracked and she cleared her throat. “Really, sweetheart?” She turned, ready to apologize to Isabela, when Antonio continued.
“Tio Bruno bumped into her yesterday and she called him-” What followed had to be the nastiest string of curses everyone in the Encanto had ever heard. Mirabel had to catch Abuela as she stumbled back, face pale at what had come out of Antonio’s little body. “Under her breath when he walked away!”
Silence.
Thunder sent everything shaking in the room. “...Isabela, mi flor, do you mind-”
Vines wrapped around her hands, creating gauntlets.
“Absolutely not.”

A writing prompt: how about Bruno having a good night's sleep for the first time in 10 years?😭😭😭 HE NEEDS TO REST
Oh, ho ho... Oh 😭💚🐀
Send me a headcanon and I will write a short ficlet inspired by it!
Bruno had a difficult time falling asleep for as long as he could remember. Though the reason as to why had always varied through the years.
As an adolescent, rest eluded him due to the weight of the future, that is, the vast horrors he could possibly prevent or, at least, prepare for.
This was a weight he was still learning to carry to this day.
After all, he was the son of Pedro Madrigal, a beloved man who had given his life to keep his family safe, his community safe. Now Bruno had to ensure that nothing would surprise them and take away their fathers gift, their home, their safety, their Encanto. He had a responsibility to seek out the bad before it happened and, despite being just a boy, he was be entrusted with the future of an entire community.
As a young man, sleep never came easy because his mind was incapable of rest, too pre-occupied pondering the many futures that would come to him.
What these prophecies meant, what could stem from these events, how they even came to be... How the people affected by these futures would inevitably react when he confronted them and gave them their prophecy..
There was a flicker of peace when the girls were young, his beloved nieces.
He had purposefully stayed home more during those years, electing to spend his days with his sisters husbands, helping them navigate fatherhood in his own goofy-uncle way. He knew nothing about being a father, no, but being a tio came easily. Loving those girls was without effort.
Those were the days..
The years to follow his short-lived domestic bliss were especially rough.
Sleepless nights was the norm for this man for years as all his visions seemed impossibly negative. Between the backlash and torment that came with this knowledge, Bruno was tired.. But sleep never seemed obtainable. The thoughts prevented it..
And then, of course, was that eternally lonely decade in the walls..
It was hard to tell when it was time to sleep, of course. And then, there was always a voice nagging him, telling him that the best time to sleep was during the day, so the family was less likely to hear him. But, lord knows, his family was loud and made that impossible..
But then night would come and the thoughts would settle. The second guessing, the guilt, the anxiety...
No. The walls were a sleepless time for Bruno.
But those days were over and the curly-haired man had been reunited with his family. At first it was difficult, he was so overwhelmed with being surronded by people, when he was finally alone.. The idea of actually sleeping was horrifying.
But now.. Things were better.
"Tio Bruno, guess what!" Antonio giggled. He was wearing his pajamas and peaking at him from around the corner as Bruno was headed upstairs to retire for the night.
"Antonio, aren't you supposed to be in bed?" Bruno asked with a small smile, enjoying the gleeful look of defiance in his nephews eyes.
"Yes." The six year old chuckled and came forward. It was then that Bruno realized he was hiding something behind his back. "But mami doesn't know. So keep it a secret, okay?"
Bruno chuckled, finding the child's antics cute.
"What ya doing up then?" Bruno asked, and was pleased when Antonio presented him with two cookies.
"I had a sweet tooth." Antonio admitted, holding up one cookie so that his uncle would take it. "So I snuck downstairs to get one. The rats told me the coast was clear."
"Did they, now?" Bruno's smile only grew as he accepted the cookie.
"Yeah. They tell me lots of stuff."
"What else do they tell you?" Bruno mused, taking a bite of the cookie as Antonio rubbed his sleepy eyes.
"They talk about you a lot. They just love you." Antonio took a bite of his cookie and smiled. "I do to. I love you a lot, Tio."
Bruno felt his heart soar at this.
"I love you too, buddy."
Antonio grinned up and then turned around, heading back to his room without another word. For a moment Bruno simply stood there, staring in the direction of Antonio's door before making his way to his own room.
Before long Bruno sat in his bed, staring at the ceiling, still caught up in how precious that simple interaction was.
The man closed his eyes and relaxed, feeling more relaxed than he had in a long while. He was loved. He was safe. He was wanted. And that was enough.

Happy Encanto Milk Day 🥛🥛🥛❤️
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Laughter is all you need. Laughter is life. Laughter is love. Just laugh and you'll forget all your worries."
Bruno scoffs. Loudly.
The split in the mountains has brought many new and interesting things to the Encanto. Modern marvels that Bruno has only ever seen in visions before.
But something about their community also seems to attract very weird and eccentric individuals. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. A lot of them fit right in with the weird and eccentric villagers (and with the Madrigals, even though most of the Madrigals vehemently deny having anything in common with the weird and eccentric even though they are the most weird and eccentric around for miles) and enrich the community quite nicely.
Not this one though. This one obviously doesn't want to enrich anything but his own wallet.
The middle aged man is dressed in a long, flowy robe made out of satin and his hair is gelled back with so much oil that it glitters in the sunshine. The smile on his face is so wide it can only be fake. He has positioned himself in the middle of the plaza, standing on a shoebox and calling out to the gathered crowd, claiming to want to help them find the way to true happiness.
The little hat for 'donations' next to the shoebox tells Bruno all he needs to know about this guy's intentions.
True happiness indeed.
The man has heard Bruno and immediately spots him in the crowd. He hops down from his shoebox and walks towards the Madrigal with a weird glint in his eyes. Mirabel, who has accompanied Bruno into the village, grabs her uncle's sleeve. She doesn't pull him away, but Bruno can tell that she readies herself to do so at the first sign of danger. So protective, his brave little Mariposa.
"Ah, the prophet." The man simpers. "I have heard of you. Say, why would you try to look into the future when all you need for true happiness is a smile upon your face? I can teach you to way to true illumination and greatness."
"You know what would bring me true happiness? Watching your back as you leave this valley. No one is buying your nonsense. Literally by the way, since the Encanto hasn't used money for transactions in years. So why don't you pack your things and go?"
The man is visibly taken aback by the money thing. He inconspicuously takes a look at the empty hat. Well, not quite empty. Some kids have thrown buttons into it and someone else seems to have relieved themselves of empty candy wrappers. A sneer works its way onto the man's face, but he is an actor, much like Bruno. Soon he is smiling again and throwing his arms wide.
"Oh, but friend! I'm not doing this for monetary gain. I just want to bring a smile to people's faces. A smile is all you need to make your problems go away."
Bruno crosses his arms. The crowd watches them with baited breath.
"I'm sure you can think of other means to get paid, can't you? Doesn't matter though, a laugh is not all you need to make your worries go away." Bruno would know. Mirabel squeezes his arm. "And telling impressionable young people otherwise is dangerous."
"A man burdened by the future. You probably don't have much to laugh about, don't you?" Bruno's hackles rise at the condescending tone. "Ah, but I know. How about a little bet? A milk drinking contest. We both drink milk and try to make the other one laugh. Who laughs first loses. If it's me, I'll leave. If it's you, you have to admit that laughter really is the best medicine. What do you say?"
Mirabel snorts and shakes her head. "That is the most ridiculous idea I've ever-"
"Let's do it!" Bruno interrupts.
"Excellent! Someone get us some milk!" The man shouts and rushes towards his little pack next to his shoebox.
Mirabel gapes at her uncle. "Tio Bruno! Why would you agree to that?"
Bruno smiles absent-mindedly. Because, you see, dear reader? The only reason Bruno would ever willingly agree to such an asinine bet is rather simple.
A get-well-soon present for @ramblesanddragons, based on her thoughts about Bruno’s pop culture vision 💕 💕 💕 hope that kittycat is still being sweet to you!
“Coffee, Bruno?”
Bruno hummed sleepily under his breath. “Thanks, kiddo. Just what your ol’ tio needs, heh.”
The cup, filled with steaming hot, black-as-night deliciousness, was in front of him before he could blink. Or maybe he’d just nodded off in between Camilo asking him and him delivering the goods to the breakfast table. The Madrigal morning briefing had been over for about half an hour, and Bruno hadn’t managed to move yet. His limbs felt like they were made of lead - he’d had a bad night’s sleep, full of visions that had kinda been dreams, and dreams that were sorta visions, and some stuff in between where Julieta had turned into a donkey and told him he’d be late for Sunday School if he didn’t put on his best pearls and get going. Everything was still...blurry. Tinged a little with green. Nothing a good cup o’ Joe wouldn’t fix.
Who was Joe?
Ahhhh. Didn’t matter. Coffee coffee coffee. Mmmmm.
As he slurped, Camilo took a seat beside him, busying himself with with cutting his toenails. If Mamá caught him doing that at the table, he’d get scalped. But Bruno was too drained to do anything about it. Instead, he watched Mariano bracing the slight slope that led from the town to La Casita; a gigantic bouquet of flowers clutched in one large hand, a jar of Osvaldo’s best candies tucked under the other muscular arm.
“Hola, hermano,” Camilo called out. “Special occasion?”
“What?” Mariano looked down at the contents of his arms with a look of vague surprise. “Oh. This?”
“Got it in one. Who says you’re not smart, amigo?”
Mariano ignored the jab. Or didn’t register it. “It’s mine and Dolores’ one hundred and five-day anniversary. I wanted to make it special for her.”
“Uh, Señor Guz -- I-I mean, Mariano,” Bruno said, stirring the dregs of the coffee in his cup with one finger, “y’do know an anniversary means one year, right? You can’t just...I mean, y’can’t just use it for whatever you want, y’know?”
Mariano’s eyes had misted over with what Mirabel called ‘The Lovey-Dovey Look’.  Big, soft eyes filling with sentimental tears, and a wide smile that showed off all those perfect teeth. “My Dolores is worth it, Señor Madrigal,” Mariano breathed. “I’ll create a reason to celebrate every single day, if it means I get to celebrate her.”
“Gross,” Camilo muttered under his breath, his attention turning to a particularly tough toenail as Mariano turned away and swept himself off into the house.
“Be nice, Milo,” Bruno muttered dryly, a sardonic little smile curling at the edges of his mouth. “He can’t help being a simp.”
There was a long, icy pause. The kind of pause Bruno had been on the receiving end of all his life. The kind that meant he’d said something totally, futuristically insane. He turned his head, wincing.
Camilo was staring at him like Bruno had stood up from the table and slapped him with a wet fish. “Wh...what did you say?!”
“Er...a...a-a-a-a simp?” Bruno shrugged. “I-I-I-I think that’s what I said, anyway?”
Another long pause.
“But Bruno,” Camilo breathed, leaning waaaay too far into his tio’s personal space and gripping both his spindly wrists, “what does it meeeeean?!”
Bruno opened his mouth to reply. Then closed it. Then opened it again, one finger pointed towards the sky for emphasis. And then he closed it again, finger crooking in defeat. “I...don’t...know.”
“So why did you say it?!”
“I dunno! You think I know why I say anything?!”
“So I can use it, then?”
“NO!” Something deep and primal in Bruno’s guts knew that word, whatever it meant, would get him in a lot of trouble with his sobrina and her new beau. But Camilo - awful demon child that he was - was already grinning his Chesire Cat grin, planning to ruin Bruno’s day before it began.
What was a Cheshire Cat?!?!
“I’m gonna go say it.”
“Milo --!”
“You can’t stop me you’re old and frail!”
“Get back here you little --”
“Let go of my foot! DOLORES!”
“Camilo!”
“DOLORES BRUNO CALLED MARIANO A BAD WORD”
“What?! Bruno!”
Oh great. Now Pepa was involved. This was almost as bad as the time he called her a ‘basic bitch’ when he was fifteen. Bruno let go of his sobrino’s foot, watched as the little brat scurried away into the house, and let his head fall onto the breakfast table with an audible thunk.
He needed another cup of coffee.
spiderwoman au-
You know how Spider! Mirabel is all happy and hunky dory like 1610 Miles is? Happy, naive, trusting, etc. But Miles prowler variant isn't? Depressed, tired, cold, not a villain but not a hero either, etc.
I introduce to you, Venom! Mirabel: (sad angst ahead)
So, let's just say Venom! Mirabel got her symbiote when she was only eleven. Julieta worked for Alchemax and therefore could bring Mirabel whenever she wanted to if she couldn't find a babysitter.
A symbiote was being tested on and researched over most of the times little Mirabel was just around. One day a fire caused most of the Alchemax to explode, the symbiote got out, and out of an act of kindness, it protected her from being burned.
A little thought I had was that the symbiote liked Julieta, she was gentler with it and talked to it kindlier than the other scientists did. Sometimes the symbiote was able to see a few glimpses of Mirabel and once, was able to see her up close behind glass.
Alma, Pepa, Felix, Agustin, worked there to. Just in different districts. Her daughters decided to follow in her footsteps and therefore met Agustin and Felix there.
So, before the building could fully engulf in flames, the symbiote broke out of glass and protected her from the fire. The five adult madrigals, however, didn't make it.
Mirabel was found in rubble by some firefighters and taken back home. Bruno was surely devastated, as well as the other grandchildren. Antonio was only three months old when it happened, so he didn't really have that much time to bond with his parents, tios, or abuela.
Bruno, who was thankfully left with Alma's inheritance, was able to care for the grandchildren the best he could.
Even though they were fairly high class in wealth, Alma always thought it would be best for her children to live in middle class neighborhoods. She thought that because she came from a typically rich family, and she couldn't stand how uptight and entitled everyone was.
She met Pedro in a simple diner in a Brooklyn neighborhood she was told to never go to. The rest is already known, except Pedro died from a home invasion.
Even through that trauma, she still preferred to live in a simple neighborhood. The people there weren't fake, mean, but at least they were truthful. No one had an image to uphold or someone to impress, they were just people trying to earn a living. (Plus, she wanted the triplets to live next to Pedro's parents)
Her parents cut her off but thankfully she was already working as a scientist at Alchemax. She wanted her children to learn the value of just living life, not valuing money, so she raised them how a typical middle-class mom would (or at least tried to)
So, Bruno and the grandkids live in a big apartment in Brooklyn. The older girls are in college, Mirabel and Camilo go to Brooklyn Visions Academy, and Antonio goes to a good kindergarten school.
Mirabel and Camilo were friends with Miles 42 since second/third grade, thankfully they ended up in the same prestige school so they could stick together.
When Miles 42's dad died, they were able to bond on grief and become a little closer as friends. But that didn't mean they were happy, not at all.
Mirabel still misses her parents and other family members every day and cries herself to sleep most nights. The only people that know of the symbiote attached to Mira are Miles 42 and Uncle Aaron.
She saw them going around places and stealing medicine, and she wanted to help. She instantly figured out it was them; she could recognize Miles' braids and Aaron's behavior easily.
Go here: Unused Spider Verse Test Footage: Prowler "Wiles" Morales - YouTube so you can know what I'm talking about.
She offered to help or more like "I'm helping you and you can't say no to me"
She introduced her symbiote buddy to them, it freaked them out, they got over it, and now she helps with missions when she can.
She often calls Uncle Aaron "Tio Aaron" and Rio "Mama Rio". Same for the other grandkids. And when you think about it, Rio and Aaron are the only parental figures they have in their life. Bruno is their third figure, but he's still at a loving uncle distance.
She's a year older than Miles here (like how Spider! Mirabel is with 1610 miles), so she calls him "Hermanito" a lot, much to his distaste. She's also a few inches taller than him so she uses his shoulders as an arm rest often. Sibling tings.
I feel like Mirabel has more of an alt aesthetic, just to match 42 Miles a little bit. Blacks, Blues, and whites are usually her color scheme.
-
So, let's just say Spider! Mirabel, Spider! Antonio, and 1610! Miles end up in Earth 42. They were all being chased by a bunch of spider people (fighting for they life), told they were nothing but anomalies, far from home, and ended up in a foreign world.
All three of them were tired and exhausted (physically and emotionally) by the time they got to Miles' "home". Mirabel and Antonio stayed on top of the roof to keep an eye out for Miguel or anyone who looked like a problem.
Mirabel got knocked tf out by her variant and Antonio...boy just passed out from exhaustion and shock. Miles gets knocked tf out too and all of them get tied up to a punching bag. Both Mira and Miles staring their variants in the eye.
Other V! Mira facts
V!Mirabel has eyebags, always low lid eyes, some scars along her face and body, and lighter brown eyes.
She's a heavy eater, more so than Camilo, because she is literally eating for herself AND an alien.
Has the weirdest food combination, because again, there's an alien attached to her with the weirdest food cravings.
Loves to code and make a few gadgets here and there.
Instead of the accordion, she likes to play with an APC and make beats from time to time.
BVA's top student, as well as Miles and Milo.
She still embroiders and sings, but she boxes too. Miles is usually her boxing buddy.
Mira stopped doing ballet at eleven, she just lost motivation after most of her family died. She continues to do gymnastics but only to make her fight better in combat.
She is a smart a$$ if you've ever seen one, give her the chance and she will get smart with you. Dolores had to hit her with a wooden spoon once or twice to make her tone it down. (And trust me, Dolores keeps that spoon locked and loaded just in case anyone wants to get smart, as well as a chancla).
Makes sweaters and some baked deserts for Rio, Aaron, and Miles. It's her way of showing affection because, unlike spider! Mira, she doesn't like being touched that much.
Likes teaching Antonio how to code and make some tiny robots here and there.
The symbiotes name is Mariposa, name given by Mirabel of course.
Whenever Rio gives attention to anyone other than her or Miles, she gets a little jealous.
But she is MAJORLY jealous of spider! Mirabel having her whole family intact and happy. So, she has a little resentment toward her. Can you blame her?
Very observant of everything, even small details. That's how she easily noticed who Aaron and Miles were when they were flying across the sky. And in her eyes, they weren't hiding their identities very well to begin with.
Rio, Bruno, and the other grandkids think something romantic is going on between her and 42 miles and they are just like..."no". But they do find it funny.
Mira does NOT eat people, if Mariposa is that hungry Mariposa will just remove itself from Mirabel and go after whoever was a threat at the moment. Then it will become with Mira again, but under no circumstances will it eat someone while fused with Mirabel. The creature already knows the girl is traumatized it doesn't want to traumatize her more.
Also, if Mirabel smells anything related to fire smoke, she'll get extremely nervous. If there's a fire nearby, she'll try to help get people out but she's gonna be having flashbacks of what happened to her all through it.
afterwards she's just gonna break down crying. Oh yeah, she hates crying, so when she's doing it, she tries her best to stop.
That's all I got, but more spider stuff coming soon.
WOWOOWOWOW SO COOL!! I do remember some Venom lore. Not a lot, gotta brush up tbh but I son’s really invest in it too much 💀💀 ANYWAYYYY. VERY SAD. But at least Bruno stepped up because. It must’ve have been hard on all of them, but especially Bruno. Bro lost his whole family and the. Had to step up to raise some kids. One of them mfs got a symbiotic, which is. CRAZY 🦜
Passing out from exhaustion is so real. Common Antonio W
Travelling circus AU
Tumblr media
Sooo, what if the Madrigals were a travelling circus?
Like, say Alma and Pedro were performers but from different circus families. Alma was a stunt woman/did very daredevil things and Pedro simply was a trapeze artist.
It was common for her and his family to compete against each other in different areas of the town they lived in. Their families knew each other pretty well, basically frenemy families.
Alma and Pedro were enemies to frenemies, frenemies to friends, then friends to lovers. After they became lovers (and married), they convinced their respective families to actually form one whole circus together.
After a WHOLE LOT of convincing their parents, they agreed, and became known as "Circo de magia familiar" (Circus of family magic). Everyone tried to get along the best they could and ended up pretty comfortable with each other.
Their big circus actually became more well known by half of Colombia and people started coming from all over the country. The whole Madrigal and Luz family became popular in under five years.
(I HC Alma's last name is Luz)
But with fame...comes its cons. Let's just say not everyone liked the circus family and well...you know what happened. The whole circus tent, train...just everything was destroyed.
You see, Alma and Pedro's family were full of bizarre people. Think the greatest showman if you've seen it. If not, think the bearded lady, muscle man, conjoined twins, etc.
So, people being people...yeah.
Alma was left with her triplets but thankfully a miracle happened and most of her and Pedro's family was still there. In the blink of an eye, both sides of the family were protected by a large circus tent.
Possibly like this (just without the balloons):
Tumblr media
And on the side of the tent, appeared a long train with lots of colors and warmth surrounding it. You can see the towers (top parts) of the tent as different rooms or areas like a house. Like Casita, but a tent.
Alma's remaining family: Her two (conjoined) aunts Maya and Sophia, her Tio Bernardo, her mother Dulce, younger cousin (eight) Jorge, her triplets, and her dog Chispa.
Pedro's remaining family: His parents Viva and Pepe, his sister Acacia and brother Julian, and his abuela carmen.
The whole family felt unsafe staying in the town they were in, so they decided to become a travelling circus. They had a train, why not go places with it? So, they took down the tent and hopped in the train, which is also like Casita. And also bigger on the inside.
Bruno gets his gift and acts as a fortune teller. He also helps come up with storylines for the performers to act. Julieta gets her gift and only uses her magic for her family. She does bake some snacks for the audience to enjoy though. Pepa gets her gift of indestructibility and becomes just like her mother with daredevil stunts.
(Fun fact: Pepa's concept version was actually supposed to have a gift of indestructibility, so I put that in here.)
Pepa and Julieta met their husbands by performing a few nights in their town. So, whenever they had the opportunity to stop in that exact town once in a while, the girls would visit them until eventually they got married.
The grandkids come along, and all the gifts are the same except for Dolores's, she gets the gift of playing whatever instrument she puts her hands on. She often helps the band out if one extra player who couldn't make it.
She also has a way to hear music from afar. One day in her tweens she heard a boy playing the guitar and singing, she followed the sound, and met Mariano.
And to Dolores' luck, his grandmother applied to the Circus as tightrope girl. She was pretty agile and knew ballet, so balancing wasn't that hard for her.
(There are also some other people who joined the circus. It's like a little village inside the tent/train. Mostly people who are seen as "freaks")
Mirabel doesn't have a gift, but she's still included in everything that's family. She's even learning how to do trapeze like Pedro did and scary stunts like Alma.
And she doesn't quite care that she doesn't have one either, most people in her abuela and abuelo's side of the family don't have gifts.
The way the family navigates shows is by holidays. Shows are 6 days before the exact holiday. On the exact holiday, everyone takes a break and celebrates it.
The most common ones they celebrate are Halloween, Christmas, Dia de los muertos, etc.
Everyone is happy in this au (I've been writing angst too much, and I need a break). Ok small very minuscule angst:
Alma doesn't like sitting in new towns no longer than a week at best, she's still a little traumatized from what happened so she doesn't like staying in places too long. She's a little afraid of that incident happening again.
Hi srry having big feelings bout Alma and need to rant
Tumblr media
ALMA MADRIGAL ISNT A VILLAIN
Look is she the best mom? No. But is there a actual best mom that exists? No! Because moms are human, humans make mistakes even well meaning mistakes.
Was she severely traumatized by seeing her husband and God knows how many more people murdered mere hours after giving birth to triplets and also by other unseen horrors that weren't shared in the movie cause ya know Disney but most definitely happened cause they placed it during a actual real event in history? Yes.
She truly never meant to hurt her family, she's a woman who had to be strong for 3 newborns and later on kids and whatever problems occurred after the forming of encanto. I don't think she ever had a moment to properly grieve her loss only times when she couldn't ignore it and by the time her children and encanto had grown she probably didnt know HOW to grieve and process everything that happened after putting it on hold for so long.
I keep thinking of the lines "Bruno didn't care about this family" "Bruno loves this family"
I feel thats the same for alma she truly loves her family but her actions can be seen that she doesn't care for them. But She truly wants her family to be happy!
Sadly her trauma bleed down to her children who watched their mother put her feelings aside as best as she could and learned to do the same. Imagine your mom who most of the time is this unbending force towards everything and then you see her have bout of raw pain and true sorrow (because it's impossible not to have break downs after something so horrific) and how terrifying that would be to see, I think the triplet would end up hiding their feelings from her because their fear of these bouts and a fear of causing them. Also seeing the fear around them and the uncertainty of growing up is the beginning stages of encanto would leave a mark on them.
And of course the trauma bleeds to the grandkids. They see their mom/tia/tio and their anxieties and their most likely attitude to put off their own feelings and such. See their abuela and her tendencies to say everything is fine and ignores emotional problems and they learn from it cause it would be hard not to. They also would have picked up on the adults hiding things from alma so not to upset her and you cant say they don't isabela is legit gonna be engaged to a man she doesn't love because she doesn't wanna upset alma.
Also again it's a Disney movie so we aren't gonna get the icky gritty stuff but like she wasn't the the villain of the movie ya know. She was a woman whose story we didn't know/understand until the last 5mins. Yeah she's unlikable in the movie but we are only seeing a few very stressful days of this family.
I also wanna say this isnt me endorsing Alma's actions. She says fucked up stuff and does fucked up stuff. But this is me saying there's a explanation on why she did the things. I'm saying that to this day there is real life generational trauma that effects ppl. There's generational trauma that goes back so very far in time and can never be truly healed. But can be learned from and built upon so hopefully it won't hurt the future.
Also thinking about another line " I thought I'd be a different woman" what if she was a different woman if Pedro never sacrificed himself, if there was no threat to them. Life is full of I thoughts and what ifs.
Again alma was never the villain. She wanted the best for her family she just couldn't understand that her best was hurting them.
Alma had a dream of what her life would be and it stayed a dream.
TLDR
Alma was never a villain only a traumatized women who never dealt with it properly and ended up hurting her family and I hope more people understand that
