unpopular opinion i fucking hate the "happily ever after" scene in sab. bc why tf are they implying that everyone's happy ending is getting a romantic partner. you do not need romance to be happy.

♫ You heard the rumors from Inez You can't believe a word she says Most times, but this time it was true ♪ plot : A figment of Mile's worst intentions.
1 → 2 ( coming soon )
Tumblr media
"Are you really sure about this?" Gwen Asked Mile's in a soft and crisp voice looking hesitant of herself when she thought of you.
It was summer, august to be exact. Mile's was on summer break as his school year had ended. Mile's hand traveled from Gwen's hips to her waist as he held her close to him.
"Yeah.. We weren't really serious about the whole thing.." Mile's breathed out slowly as his voice was pushed to a little whisper.
Before the could get any closer, Gwen's dimensional travel watch flickered, indicating another call from another dimension as Gwen sighed.
"See you soon.. Spider-man..?" Gwen asked with a light giggle at the end of her sentence as Mile's lips curved up into a grin. "Yeah." Soon enough, Gwen had sneaked out of Mile's bedroom through his window as Miles sighed.
Time went by as Miles laid on his bed, scrolling through his phone until his fingers clicked on Spotify. As he scrolled through his playlists, one playlist stood out to him the most, the one you had made just for him as his mind forced him to think about the infidelity he was participating in as his mind geared to a few memories.
"Do you think this would look good on me, Miles?" You asked as you put swatches of a dark lipstick on your skin, thinking deeply about your choice as your eyebrows scrunched up.
Miles noticed how concentrated you were in your thoughts before he squished on of your cheeks with his free hand, the other holding your shopping bags as he chuckled.
"You know my answer already, Ma." Miles said with a grin. "Anything and everything looks good when you wear it."
You playfully hit him with a smile creeping up on your face due to his words. "Don't play 'round with me too much, Morales."
Then she showed up, Gwen stacy. Mile's soon-to-be dilemma. They clicked instantly, I mean- who else could you talk to about this kind of top secretive spider stuff to? Each other right?
Gwen is one of the only people who actually know about Mile's true identity, one could even say that she practically knew everything.
But she didn't really do anything to personally help Miles whenever he was actually going through something. Or at least she didn't patch him up like you did.
That's right, You snuck him a literal eraser including a math's formula during a test because he didn't know there was gonna be a test.
You silently patched him up whenever he was injured from his duties as spider-man, not asking him questions about how he received them as he asked you to stop worrying, you did.
You waited patiently for him to open up to you, not wanting to make him feel pressured but will he ever tell you what was actually going on?
At first, You were oblivious to the summer affair Miles had going on, chasing two girls at the same time. You and your friends were on facetime talking about anything until suddenly one of your friends mentioned a certain rumour about Miles, Mostly about his affair as you slowly connected the dots from his unresponsive and strange but nervous behavior towards you to many more antics.
Usually you didn't believe in the rumours you heard from this particular friend but you had a feeling- No, knew that this time, it was true.
Summer had passed by as it was time for a new school year, Miles's face was currently in a merged expression of surprise and bewilderment as he stared at Ganke. "She changed her homeroom?" Miles finally asked as his voice sounded surprised and disappointed.

'It should come as no surprise that Russell T Davies, the man behind Queer As Folk, the one who first made Doctor Who tangibly gay, has returned to the franchise with what might be its queerest outing yet. But even we were surprised by quite how integral LGBTQ+ themes would be to the story this time around.
Much has been made of David Tennant and Catherine Tate's return, yet it's Yasmin Finney's brand-new character Rose who's at the heart of this Star Beast special.
Donna's daughter befriends The Meep first, and she's also the one who saves London when The Meep reveals itself to be evil. What's special about this is that it's Rose's trans identity specifically that proves key to her victory.
When we last saw her mother, Donna had absorbed some of the Doctor's energy, creating a 'metacrisis' that would have killed her if the Doctor had not erased her memories. But when she's reminded again of the Time Lord's existence in this latest episode, Donna survives intact, and that's because when she gave birth to Rose, she unknowingly split that energy between them, halving their potentially devastating impact.
As Donna's memories return, Rose's innate Timelord energy is then activated too, enabling her to stop Meep with newfound knowledge and abilities from her position on the ground.
Rose's non-binary identity stems from The Doctor's. (The show finally acknowledges them to be gender-fluid after they presented as both male and female over the course of the franchise). That means the source of Rose's power comes directly from her nature as a non-binary individual, positioning her as a hero because of her gender identity and not despite of it.
That's not to say Doctor Who shies away from the difficulties trans people face in real life. Earlier on in the same episode, bullies deadname Rose in the street and soon after, Donna's own mother, Sylvia, accidentally misgenders Rose as well, despite her good intentions.
Donna's response to all this? "I would burn down the world for you, darling," and honestly, that's how we feel after seeing some of the negative feedback these scenes have received online.
Despite scoring strong reviews from critics and the majority of fans, it seems not everyone is celebrating Doctor Who's much-lauded return.
On Rotten Tomatoes, trolls are review-bombing the episode, bringing the audience score down to 41%, which is a huge contrast from the critics rating of 89%. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and the episode won't be to everyone's tastes, but when comments suggest the show 'needs to stop pushing talk of pronouns onto kids', it's safe to say most of these opinions are grounded in hate and ignorance.
Imagine being shocked that a show about an alien who regularly changes their body and gender would dare acknowledge such concepts?
In the days following the special, a hashtag named #RIPDoctorWho continued this backlash on X/Twitter, to which Doctor Who casting director Andy Pryor said the following:
"Just stopped by to say that on @bbcdoctor who (or any of our work) we don't work hard to cast inclusively for publicity. We do it because we like stories. & stories should speak to all of us & include all of us. And if one person feels a little less alone, then."
With more queer cast members on the way, including Neil Patrick Harris as the villainous Toymaker and Ncuti Gatwa as the new face of The Doctor himself, the future of Doctor Who is looking queerer by the day.
But it's not just the future that's queer.
To those who baulk at more inclusivity in future seasons, we can't help but wonder: What show have you been watching this whole time? Because Doctor Who is super queer — and it always has been.
Yes, even before Jack Harkness slapped a guy's arse or Bill Potts fell for a puddle named Heather, the Classic era channeled queerness with how it defied the establishment and stood up for those who need it most. It's hard to exaggerate how much stories like this resonated with LGBTQ+ people at a time when positive representation was almost non-existent on screen.
It's no wonder then that a sizeable chunk of Doctor Who's fandom identifies as queer, even if the show wasn't able to address LGBTQ+ fans directly until (queer lifelong fan) Russell T Davies regenerated the franchise in 2005.
But now, all these years later, The Star Beast ushers in a new chapter for Doctor Who where the show can finally live up to the inclusive ethos it's always striven for.
That's not to diminish the positive steps other showrunners have taken in the interim. 2015's 'Sleep No More' featured Doctor Who's first trans actress, Bethany Black, and season twelve's 'Praxeus' successfully flipped the 'Bury Your Gays' trope, although the less said about how season 13 handled #Thasmin the better.
And it's not like everything is suddenly perfect now. Rose's metacrisis abilities could feed into sci-fi tropes around trans/non-binary identities being considered "alien", plus the inclusion of Rose's deadname has garnered a mixed response from the trans community online.
While some argue this has given trolls the opportunity to use that name venomously against her character, others point out that transphobia is a reality the show shouldn't shy away from.
The moment when Rose calls the Doctor out for assuming Meep's pronouns might feel a bit-on-the-nose for some too, although if this kind of talk immediately heralds the end of the franchise for you, you might want to cast your mind back a few decades to 1972's 'The Curse of Peladon' where the Doctor and Jo discussed Alpha Centauri's pronouns at length.
But still, seeing trans and non-binary identities celebrated to this degree is very much welcome regardless, especially in a family show with such a huge fanbase like Doctor Who. This is the kind of storytelling that saves lives, trolls be damned.
And now, with the impending arrival of more trans actors and characters in Yasmin Finney's wake — including Jinkx Monsoon, Mary Malone and Pete MacHale — Doctor Who's next season promises to be more inclusive than ever before.
If you have a problem with that, remember that your hero, the good Doctor, would never discriminate against trans people, or any other marginalised group for that matter either. So why would you?'

✨Teaser: In Technicolor✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So some of you may know this, but my next fic that was set to release was originally called “Ballad of a Teenage Dream” and was a Wednesday x Skam crossover that showcased all the highs and lows of high school and the growing pains that come with the transition from teenager to young adult.
Well that story has been reworked, overhauled, and given new life.
I present to you my high school dramady, In Technicolor.
Set in Los Angeles, California, the story follows two groups of friends as their worlds collide. A modern spin on the social dynamics of Romeo and Juliet where two factions are warring but cannot remember why or why their bitter rivalry is so important to their identity, In Technicolor highlights the feuding of the wealthy and the everyday citizens to show the consequences that come from stripping culture and history from the city streets in the name of gentrification. It explores the complex relationships of families on either side of the fence to reveal that wealth does not always bring happiness. And finally, at the center of it all, the complicated friendships and relationships of the members of these two groups as they meld into one.
For our East LA champions, we follow the Addams siblings and their mismatched group of skateboarders, graffiti artists, musicians, and street racers.
For our Palisades elite, we focus on the Blossoms and Galpin’s—two families from extreme wealth that are not entirely honest about what they show the world.
.
.
.
Important Story Information: If the visuals were not enough to give it away, this story will be a crossover with a different fandom. Entering the mix is the ensemble from Riverdale. I do want to caution readers now, there will be crossover pairings, character retcon on both sides, ageing up, ageing down, and changes to character personalities.
One such example is that Wednesday isn’t allergic to color and isn’t entirely unapproachable. She smiles and laughs but only when around those she trusts like her family and friends. Pugsley has been aged up and is Wednesday’s twin brother. My face claim for this version of Pugsley is Xolo Mariduẽna and I have made Pugsley (who also will be going by “Lee”) more confident and hotheaded with some snark and sass. Second to that, my face claim for Pubert “Bertie” Addams is Malachi Barton and Pubert/Bertie will be one year younger than his siblings—the twins Wednesday and Pugsley age 17 and in their senior year and Bertie age 16 entering his junior year.
On the Riverdale side of the crossover, I have made certain changes that I don’t want to reveal just yet for Archie’s character. That surprise will come soon enough because next I will be posting moodboards for specific couples that will be at the center of this story. But one change I will discuss now to get it out there to avoid hate comments and harassment is the issue of is Cheryl bi or is she a lesbian. In my story, she’s bi and will be paired with a male lead. I understand that the actress for her character went back and forth on Cheryl’s orientation but, to me, Cheryl reads like a chaotic bisexual that goes back and forth on her identity because being bi is confusing enough. And as someone who is bi, I would like to see more representation and fiction for people like myself because fandoms are so quick to erase bisexuality and pansexuality and criticize us when we speak up about it. So in this story, Cheryl is bi and she has broken up with her most recent girlfriend before meeting her next partner who is a man. And it’s fine.
If this upsets you, just swipe off of this post. Don’t leave mean comments or take digs at me because I’m not for any of this fandom infighting nonsense. It’s fiction and these characters can be whatever you want them to be in your stories.
However, if you don’t mind Cheryl liking both men and women, you don’t have an opinion either way, or your curious to see how this’ll pan out, stay tuned. I’d love to share this story with you. All are welcome so long as things stay civil and breezy.
So with that, I look forward to updating with the couple’s board and then the first chapter titlecard along with the chapter itself. Until then, stay lovely and stay groovy.💜

You know something I am really sad about is how the TARDIS interior changed for tenteen. It would have been a whole different story if the clothes had been normal but like this? Everthing the Doctor was just vanished and got replaced. The screwdriver coming out of nothing? The outfit? A new fancy TARDIS?
10 kept the TARDIS from 9 and 12 from 11. 13 had to fight to get her TARDIS back and built herself a new screwdriver in the meantime. 11 had to let her recalibrate until she was usable again and gave him a new screwdriver (? I think ? Don't quite remember where he got the sonic) All of them CHOSE their new outfit and had a whole thing where they searched for it.
And tenteen just gets all those things like this, appearing in his lap. Which is convenient, sure, but I feel like he really lost the identification process on the way. Maybe not as important for him as he knows the body and mind and companion already (in theory) but like, I am not surprised he is going through it like this. He just wanted to hang on to Yaz, wasn't allowed that, lost her, decided she was gonna be excited for change, didn't really get change either and then everything they could hold onto as part of their last identity, everything that was theirs to let go off, just got ripped out of his hands replaced with a weird mixture of 'look how new and nice and shiny' and 'isn't that lovely reminiscent of 4 bodies ago'. No wonder they are running on their gingiva*, I would be so lost and disoriented in his place.
And then obviously from a meta pov I dislike that 15 is apparently copying tenteen's TARDIS now. We got a scene of tenteen exploring the new TARDIS and being excited but for 15 he has already had 1.5 adventures with her. And while we couldn't put tenteen into the old clothes it was okay to put 15 in underwear? Wouldn't it have made much more sense to have the weird clothes' thing happen with the mitosis regeneration? (like, I wouldn't have liked that either but it is a little weird how tenteen got a full suit and 15 got the bare minimum)
And I hate how it feels like every part that made the Doctor 13 got erased as quickly as possible. Luckily, there were a few references at least - if no one got me I know the psychic paper got me <3 - and I GET why the fam didn't show up in the puppet show but like, couldn't you have left tenteen the TARDIS interior at least? I am sure Donna would have liked the crystal columns <3
It feels very rtd to have tenteen showered with gifts he can't even want and that are way too much while others are erased or overshadowed by him and get the leftovers.
On a similar note, I was also direly missing post-regeneration haze for both of them. Who knows (well people who have watched the Christmas special, I guess), maybe that's yet to come for 15? But like how are they supposed to function without running about without a clue and passing out every 5s for a day or two?

I think a lot of people, especially younger people who weren't integrated into the otherkin community before they started making their kin lists, don't realize that it's always been at it's base a spiritual identity. I'm not a hard gatekeeper, if someone sees like, Bakugo or whatever, and goes "oh shit he's literally me" and doesn't introspect farther than that, I'm not gonna tell them they can't be otherkin. But if you're going around being like "oh yeah I just relate to him, I'm not like these ✨ crazies ✨ who actually believe they're Eda Owlhouse, or a dog, or a dragon lololol" then congrats, you're both ableist as hell and not fucking otherkin man. You just think a character is neat. And that's okay!
Plus a lot of people are forgetting that otherkin and therian overlap widely. Hell, I bet a lot of newer self identified kin folk don't even know what therian is. When people genuinely new to the kin community ask me for my kin list, they're surprised and confused when I say deerkin, dragonkin. They think when I say I'm angelkin, specifically Lucifer, that I identify as a blorbo from their shows, and no I don't. Otherkin doesn't mean you identify as blorbo from your shows. I mean, it totally can! That's also extremely valid, our old host fully identified as Sam Winchester and The Batter on top of these other kintypes. But it's not JUST that, and in tired of getting erased and added to like, cringe comps by PEOPLE WHO CALL THEMSELVES OTHERKIN because I want to connect to my spirituality.
Also, when I say "people who call themselves otherkin" I mean literally just that- not that I think these people are faking or whatever. But if you're kin-for-fun and are self-identifying and CHOOSING this community, learn your history. Respect the people who's experiences you don't understand. Iirc, otherkin in the form I'm familiar with has existed since the 70's. Therians even longer before, though I'm admittedly not as educated on that one because I don't generally ID as therian despite having deer as a kintype and "qualifying".
It's, at it's core, a spiritual identity, and y'all are forgetting that. It's not a funny little roleplay game, that's being a furry or a cosplayer. Which is fine! I am also both of those! But if you're coming into the otherkin community, as a newer otherkin or an outsider, do your research. Talk to people who've been in the community for a while. I've been here for what, like nine or ten years now. Some of my mutuals and other friends even longer. It's more than just "lol I'm soooo like komeda 🤪" and while yeah that can be part of it, we have such a more in-depth and RICH history.
I used to get death threats and gore because I was openly otherkin. Now, being "a kinnie" is more normalized, but only within a very narrow window of expression that can go TikTok trending. Im glad these kids can express themselves without having to worry about what I did. But so many turn around and make fun of those of us who genuinely feel a spiritual connection to our kintype, and it's disheartening.

Okay, thinking more about your idea of 'Monokaller could have been hacked'. thing, I had more thought about it and realised a problem.
Wouldn't it be easier just to send the text from your own Monokaller than someone else's? They know that most phones can only be accessed through ID fingerprints. so stealing a Monokaller and using it to frame someone doesn't make sense if the first obstacle is the ID. Now, the Mystery Kaller has no ID fingerprints but also has no interface, making it impossible for anyone to use it to text someone. Hacking it would be an option, but that would be a lot of work and complication, having to find a computer, having to know to program, having to go through the process of something that is mundane, all just to send a text. it's incredibly overkill that it would have been easier just to send the text to Star from their own Monokaller. it's easier to hide since it's a two-way conversation. nobody would know about the text. This is why I believe that only Jenny could have sent the text, since she is a robot and likely linked herself to the Monokaller, texting as normal or at least her normal. As for the hidden icon and name, either Jenny knew about her Monokaller being missing and hid herself in case somebody search her Monokaller or Monokuma hid the icon and name to make the murder mystery interesting.
My problem with this theory resides on the fact that the Killer really wanted to protect it's identify, even going as far as to paint a sweater, so them sending the message from their own Monokaller wouldn't make sense since that would reveal their identity and get rid of the surprise element.
You also have the problem that Star would've probably suspected something if someone asked her to go alone to the kitchen in the middle of the night alone, while the message she received was not only from Jenny her best friend in the academy and also mentioned that Blossom and Bubbles would be there.
Whoever killed Star really wanted to make sure that:
A) Star was lured with a false sense of Security as to get her with her defenses down.
B) Erase any trace of their identity.
So I still stand by the fact that it wouldn't make sense for Jenny to be the killer even if she somehow managed to get out from the power draining process early.
On top of that We have the problem of the Sky mask, Star didn't have any injuries on the head so the blood has to be from the killer, as seen in his show, jenny doesn't bleed when injured, not even releasing oil, so it couldn't be from her.
And she wouldn't win anything by sending the message to lure Star towards the real killer being someone's accomplish since it has already be stated that only the killer gets to graduate.
I understand where you're coming with the Jenny send the message theory, but I really don't see how it could work given the information we have.
And I know the Monokaller being broken from the inside (like in DR1 Case 2) or being hacked doesn't have any evidence, but it also contradicts the least with the rest of evidences.

Question!! I need help🐞🐈‍⬛🤭
Were LadyBug and Cat Noir’s memories erased(in the s5 finale) ??? like… every fight, adventure, talk basically everything that has happened while they were in their costumes:)) convos, when cat noir met with marinette, anything u can imagine, but,as i said, everything that happened when they were transformed ig. 🐞🐈‍⬛
Or Marinette and Adrien’s memories were erased. Ive seen this rumour a few times…
Basically: were ANYONES memories erased? If so,what?! 🤦🏼‍♀️
I'm sorry. What? Where does this come from?
Like, just one major scene that demolishes all credibility to that rumor, is when we see Marinette at the end repairing the Miraculous based on the notes from the grimoire, with Su Han - the Celestial Guardian of the Miraculous - in her room alongside Alya who knows she is Ladybug. Not only that, Marinette remembers that a Wish has been made. Previous scene also mentions the lie she has told Adrien as Ladybug, going with what Gabriel asked of her before he died (notably that Adrien never learns about Gabriel's secret identity). Plus, she is applying what she has learned from the mistakes she did throughout S4 - that power must be shared, not kept by on single individual, so never again someone could easily have access to all the Miraculous at once. Knowing to who each Miraculous goes and neither Chat Noir nor her are surprised to see the whole team of other Miraculous Holder all assemble and present. And Ladybug is very glad to see her Chat Noir back as well.
So, it looks like they still have their memory all right. I feel like this rumor was build under a misconception of how the Wish works. Based on Sass' example during Ephemeral, while yes, what's already written in red gets erased, it is the color of the ink that gets changed, not the content of what was written before the Wish.
Barkk did point out that no one knows how a Wish affect the world. That is most probably because Gimmi - who is Reality incarnate - change it so it always has been as such. Remember how Gimmi introduce themselves :
"I am everything that was, is and will be!"
Let's again use an example cite in the show. If someone wished for the strawberries to be green in exchange for the peas to be red, then no one would remember that the strawberries were initially red and the peas were initially green. Because the reality of that universe has been changed so strawberries had always be green, and peas, red. But outside of that detail? Everything stays the same. No alterations to history and events.
Gabriel only made one single Wish with his own life being part of the balance. Ever since Robustus, we know about the equivalent exchange. They keep reminding us that if you want someone to relive, one other person has to die. In this case, if one dies, then another one gets to live.
That is all that Gabriel's Wish did.

I have a lot of thoughts about Doc & Marty and their time in the 1985A timeline tbh. We get to see a lot of Marty's time in that timeline (obviously) but almost none of Doc's besides when he shows up at Oak Park Cemetery and when he shows up again to save Marty on the roof of the Pleasure Paradise.
And despite the fact that Doc never shares what he saw during his own investigation nor his complete thoughts on the situation behind the obvious and pressing, we get told so much with so little, especially as they're preparing to leave Hell Valley for 1955 again.
In the DeLorean, when Marty asks what if we don't succeed, you can see it on Doc's face even before he says anything. Failure's not an option because he knows what's going to happen if they screw this up; this will be his reality when the time bubble bursts and they'll lose any and all chance of making things right if that happens.
"What if we don't succeed?"
"We must succeed."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's that. No consideration for the what-if, no room for doubt or misinterpretation. They might only get that one trip to the past to do it and there's no exact science behind how quickly the timeline will move to correct itself in situations like this. Marty had a week after nearly erasing himself from existence after screwing up his parents' meeting and they barely made it. They might only have a few hours. They could have three days. They just can't risk it.
Doc's normally a very expressive individual, but you don't often see or hear the genuine fear in his voice the same way you do in this interaction. Concern, sure, confusion and excitement and surprise and bewilderment, absolutely, but he's never visibly this rattled. He's clearly in a rush, more so than usual. He'd normally never leave behind someone in another time, certainly not Jen or Einie, but there's simply no time to waste and he's banking on that, their success.
Like, Biff's an idiot, sure, (at least when it comes to book smarts; he's clearly street smart) but we also know he's manipulative, vindictive, and self-serving and if he's got it in his head that Doc's going to be a threat to his empire and the ruse he's been keeping up for decades, he'll do whatever it takes.
So what did Doc actually see while in this timeline? I've got my own personal headcanons about this and I imagine everything he saw just got progressively worse and worse. This won't be an exhaustive list, just some of my thoughts particular to how I see the timeline and what I'd write as a sequence of events happening behind the scenes.
Doc's first order of business is a disguise—he doesn't yet know what's happened to him in this timeline or where he is and he's certain his name will be as well-known here as it was back home; he can't run the risk of someone finding out his identity and asking questions. He's not proud of it, but haste and urgency prompts him to steal the clothes.
He wants to go visit his own home, but without the assurance that his counterpart won't be there, he decides to make for the library instead, after spending a little time inspecting what Hill Valley has turned into. The degradation, vandalism, chaos, and obvious neglect causes the hair on his arms to stand on end and he's suddenly extremely worried about driving the time machine around so openly, hover conversion be damned. He stashes the DeLorean in the garage of an abandoned, dilapidated old home and shuts the door, believing it will be safer in there than him trying to drive it around and attract attention to himself.
Breaking into the library is easy enough. Windows are smashed, it has been boarded up and left to decay with a graffiti-laden sign proudly announcing this to be the newest location for another BiffCo addition; nobody's around to see him go in and so he helps himself. He's in the library a few hours sorting through all the disarray, but he finds several noteworthy articles: Biff's highly suspicious, meteoric rise to fame and fortune, his buying out of Hill Valley, reports of crime on the rise and the police abandoning the population, George McFly's death, Lorraine's marriage to Biff, the police having to close the case on the murder of George McFly several months later due to 'no leads', BiffCo purchasing Lone Pine Mall, the ongoing hunt for the group looking to topple the Tannen Empire, detailing the most recent siphoning of electricity and other resources, the list continues. Doc gets a clearer and clearer picture of what Biff has done to Hill Valley since his older self went back in time to give him the sports almanac.
Then he finds articles about himself—several—with the most recent and most damning being '83's front-page declaration that he has finally been committed indefinitely at the County Asylum and is filled with an icy dread. Now armed with the chilling knowledge that there's no possible way he can run into his alternate self, Doc retrieves the DeLorean and hurries off to 'his' home.
The lab is beyond saving and Doc spends a considerable amount of time rooting through all his upturned belongings, looking for any further clues or hints his alternate may have left behind, namely in the form of journals or audio recordings. Thinking where would I hide something if I was being targeted by a madman? Doc eventually manages to find some of the writings his alternate had left behind. Much of it was weather-damaged and heavily redacted, especially the parts detailing any of the specifics of time-travel, but Doc was able to glean enough of the story of the life his counterpart had lived.
The time machine was never completed due to power constraints, a shifted timeframe, and Biff and the authorities constantly hounding him. Alternate Doc had started growing suspicious of Biff after his third consecutive big sports win and began to suspect foul play via time-travel, thus fuelling his desire to complete his own research to do some investigation of his own. Something had always felt off. He'd been siphoning power on the down-low to keep his experiments going, never able to achieve the 1.21 gigawatts of power he needed for proper time travel. He could manage a few hours at best with this small amount of power, but that wouldn't do. He'd never gotten his hands on a DeLorean; his time travel device more closely resembles Doc's own early prototype for travelling through time, the TFC. The authorities began harassing him more and more, especially as protests against Biff began to pick up. He had secretly encouraged and even supported those with sense enough to stand up against Biff and his perverting corruption. His final unredacted entry was a short, cryptic line: It's safe.
Doc's an hour early to Oak Park Cemetery once he finally collects himself and he's waiting around with Einie, talking to him and trying to process everything he's just learned. What he'll tell Marty. He opts to keep everything but the most pertinent information a secret. It's only when he hears Marty screaming at George's grave that he knows he's there and makes his presence known.
When Marty goes back to the Pleasure Paradise to confront Biff, Doc uses the time to, against his better judgment drive to the County Asylum, where he's supposedly been locked up. Still in disguise and posing as a relative of his, he walks up to the check-in desk and inquires after himself, one Doctor Emmett L. Brown and receives news that he's in no shape to meet anyone, as he's currently in recovery. Doc hurries out.
Marty dies. He resolves never to speak of this to the boy so long as he lives, but the very first time, he's too late to be there to save him during his confrontation with Biff. Doc is frozen over the body of his friend while the world fades out around him and it takes a while for him to come to his senses enough to get back into the DeLorean and prevent this tragedy from ever happening. At that moment, he doesn't care that a crowd of people sees the time machine take off in flight; they won't remember in a minute anyway.
Anyway, long post over—these are some of the major thoughts I've got about this timeline.

I'm going to need a full week to recover. So I had this gut feeling that she was their daughter. There was a setup, you have to pay it off to the people watching eventually. I was a bit afraid to say it, but I've suspected it for a little while now. And I am amazed. Gaal rescuing Salvor from the water was so beautiful it gave me goosebumps.
I am, however, incredibly pissed off. She remained in stasis for over a century. WHich means that, unlike he went into statis as well, Hugo is now dead. That is not ok. I was invested.
I'm extremely surprised by Day's choice regarding Dawn. I thought he would be merciless, but his decision denoted a growth I did not expect. Dusk was a little bitch about it. He doesn't know his place. He's not The Empire anymore, he's merely an advisor who should shut it when his opinion is not required. I was as outraged as Day by the bitchslap.
I was not outraged, however, I was positively flabbergasted by Demerzel's actions. She's losing it. She is going mad. She's going through Rampancy! But now that all Cleons have been adultered, who is she meant to be loyal to? Should she just… kill them all? Or should she consider them all to be Cleons, regardless of their potential differences? She's not dealing well with the news, that we can say.
I have a question. We discussed The 6th Day recently, and you mentioned that it's touched upon in Foundation. I understand that, if needed, a clone that's been decanted at a later stage can be infused with its predecessor's memories. That's all good. But mannerisms aren't genetically encoded, they're learned. So I don't understand why XIV couldn't copy them, when many of his predecessors were apparently adultered, and therefore not as identical as they all initially thought they were. AS I understood it, any new clone is created from the genetic materials of Cleon the First. At some point, it's Cleon the First who was modified. Which means that any new clone of his would carry on this defect. I wonder, then. Are these modifications completely random? They inserted a worm, and the worm will expresses itself in different ways inside each individual? I t doesn't anwser my initial question, I'm rambling. Sorry. But mannerisms are not inherited. I don't get why XIV would behave so differently. I understand that he's left handed, and that's obviously a huge difference if they're all right handed. But there are other things that set him apart that have nothing to do with inherited genes. He didn't eat like them, he didn't move like them. That's not something that can be expressed through genetics. I have so many question, and I'm sorry for this dumping. I need to get them out.
Day's punishment for Azura was beyond cruelty. It was incredible. Rarely have I seen such effective repercusions from a villain. And I don't even think that Day is supposed to be a villain. Mouth was agape during his whole speech. He erased someone from collective memory. Who does that?!
Oh, and I'm so very happy that Mari Hardin said of Hari exactly what I was feeling. His speech smelled like bullshit to me. I really have no idea whether he improvised on the spot or if it was all well rehearsed. To me, it's 50/50. What a charismatic cult leader we have here. I had a hard time believing his story about the true reason behind the feud between Anacreon and Thespis. It sounded entirely plausible, but also so so very convenient. I love him, but I don't trust him.
So anyway, I'm sure I'll have many other thoughts coming to me soon, but as for now, I would say that I'm really glad I gave it a try. It's unlike any other show I've known.
FNG
Oh I completely understand your comment re: needing to recover. It's a very heavy show in many respects. It doesn't pull its punches, and it combines a number of extremely dark concepts under very beautiful sci-fi visage.
Re: Gaal and Salvor. Yes... And, I was also very upset that Hugo is gone by now. I secretly hope they will do a silly think like put him in stasis too and he somehow is there in S2... I know the hope is slim but both of them were such gangsters together :-(
Re: Day/Dusk -- Ahahaha yes, see, that's why I was telling you that maybe the experience in the Spiral DID affect Day. I was completely heartbroken. He really took a turn for "this is my son". His breakdown was completely warranted.
Re: Demerzel -- many, many questions remain as to what she did and why. I genuinely hope S2 will answer at least some of them. But that was also part of the reason why I was super inspired to write my fic! I THOUGHT ABOUT HER SO MUCH!
TBH the thing with their mannerisms and your point about Dawn not being able to copy them wasn't THE most well-thought-out, but what I took away is maybe he legit "couldn't" copy. Left-handed vs right-handed, some weird anomalies that make him move differently. But again, that's not something they explicitly defined.
DAY'S PUNISHMENT OF AZURA WAS PERFECT AND JAW-DROPPING AND IS PROBABLY MY FAVE CLEON XIII MOMENT AFTER HIM BEING CODEPENDENT WITH DEMERZEL TO THE POINT OF IT BEING RIDICULOUS
Also - I agree with Mari and she was completely correct on Hari (and in general - always the voice of pragmatic reason. Love Mari.)
I AM SO GLAD YOU GAVE THIS SHOW A TRY. IT IS SUCH AN HONOUR TO HAVE MADE YOU CURIOUS ABOUT WATCHING IT FNG

Why not believing in endogenic systems is not the good move you think it is
MENTION OF CONVERSION THERAPY, QUEERPHOBIA, TRANSPHOBIA, PSYCHIATRIC ABUSE, ABUSE
We grew up trans and a teen, with Kalvin Garrah extremely too present in the trans masc community, and so both IRL and online groups were fed with other trans people telling you how you can't be trans if you're this or that. That did really damage us as we were also surviving conversion therapy and abuse at home bc of our transness and neurodivergences.
So, when we realized that we are plural and that we tried to come in the community, what a surprise (that is sarcasm) that the multiple community had extremely similar issues!
So:
Do you think you'll get a psychiatric/medical approval by denying endogenic systems help or even recognition?
(we're also extremely politically anti psychiatric and pro mad movements, if you want to read more on what we mean by that, here's our recent post on anti psychiatry: https://www.tumblr.com/chaotic-saturne/724263076801708032/psychiatry-is-dangerous-and-heres-why?source=share)
Identity is such a wild concept, why would you care that someone doesn't need a diagnosis or even trauma (and even, what can trauma mean highly differ from person to person) ?
You think that PSYCHIATRICS or singlets will help? That by having a proper diagnosis and a proper "correct" way to be a system, you'll be acknowledged on your traumas and as who you are? That by throwing away under the bus systems that are different from yours you will get approval?
Guess what? No. You'll still be the freak show in horror movies, you'll still be the weirdo to put in a psych ward the moment you act out too different.
You don't have to reject people that you don't understand and don't work the same.
We are a traumagenic, polyfragmented system. Our two former psychiatrists and all of our former therapists from the last three years and our current general practitioner all acknowledge/d that we are plural (and we also acknowledge that it is a privilege many can't afford for so many reasons). And we don't care about their approval (and that also is a privilege of our part, to be able to not care) we know who we are. We don't want a diagnosis on behalf of following a goddamn book (hello, DSM5!) that is seen as holy by psychiatry, when said book has so many issues, when psychiatry has so many issues, when psychiatry is made of cis-het white doctors that will never question the nuclear family, intergenerational trauma, racism, patriarchy and a whole bunch of other nasty things, because it's not to their advantage to question those things in the world we live in.
Most people (so around ish 7 people) in our closed life are also systems. Two of them are what you all would call endogenic (tho we don't cuz we don't use those terms IRL), they chose to be multiple, because hey, what the fuck identity means anyway, and realized being multiple instead of only one would help them function more in their daily life. And here they are. (And it also doesn't mean they don't have trauma, and even if they didn't, still systems). And they don't threaten our own multiplicity or don't question whether or not we are systems as well, them being systems OUTSIDE of traumas doesn't mean that our own way of being multiple is wrong. No, just that multiplicity is such a wild concept !
You not wanting to accept endogenic systems because you don't understand them is, to us, similar to other queer folks saying aroace people can't be queer, that polya people can't be queer, that non binary or xenogender people can't be queer, that none of us exist. That they don't exist and erase "real" queerness. You will not help your fight by doing so.
You don't have to understand to fucking be nice and kind or at least to shut your mouth on a subject you don't want to understand.
Because
1- on the long run, psychiatry and doctors will never be your friends, the moment you're too weird you're abused, you're shut down, you're sent away.
2- but on the short and middle run, I guess gatekeeping people is the way to yourself abuse other people because understanding would mean questioning what you thought you knew, which could be wrong, and hey! Why questioning hard difficult things when just being "comfortable" is easier! So just let's be mean and asshole to people instead!
(why is tearing people you don't understand in a smaller minority group within your own minority group preferable over supporting each other ESPECIALLY to those you don't understand? Ok, capitalism has all put in our silly heads to just think of ourselves but at what cost??????)

Homies I just saw the funniest take. It was really long, but it basically boils down to “actually, Vanya coming out as trans is homophobic, because it implies that because she’s attracted to a woman, she’s a man, thus erasing the fact that she is in fact a lesbian”. Never mind the fact that THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT ELLIOT EXPERIECED IRL. Like for the longest time he lived as a lesbian, before coming out as a trans man. Author also adresses the fact that Sissy is canonically gay, and continues to be gay after Viktor leaves, and is just... Bewildered by it? Like, “why does cannon refute this point that the authors never intended to make?” I can’t, this is just so funny.
The author of the piece also takes umbrage with the fact that being with Sissy made Viktor realize he’s trans, and claims this is because Sissy was a woman and because Viktor had sex with her, then he obviously must be a man... Never mind that Sissy’s bravery in admitting her queerness to both herself and others might’ve inspired Viktor to question his identity in ways that he never dared before. Never mind that Viktor’s relationship with Sissy was the healthiest and most emotionally honest that he’s had, maybe ever. I mean, we saw enough of Hargreeves household and Viktor’s life in it. He also didn’t seem to have any friends, and his only relationship outside of his family that we saw was his romance with Harold Jenkins, which lasted like a week and ended with Viktor so unhinged he destroyed the fucking world. Which is to say, not exactly a healthy environment for self-exploration.
The author is then bewildered that everyone in the family is so supportive of his transition, and why is none of the siblings like “no, you’re a lesbian, actually”, which... The projection here is just too funny not to mention. Like I don’t know, these people are from 2019 USA, maybe, just maybe, they think being trans is OK and not a big deal? Maybe they want to support their little bro now that their family kinda works as a unit?! Author also claims that noone ever shows this amount of support towards Viktor on any other occasion, which... No?! ALLISON continues to hate Viktor, but never deadnames or misgenders him (which is a bit weird, but honestly what is your point here, that Allison isn’t enough of an asshole in season 3?!). Everyone else tries to have a normal sibling relationship with him!
(The author also calls Luthor’s sexual assault “non-consensual PDA”, which... I AM SORRY WHAT)
The only point I will give the author is that Viktor’s transition was extremely rushed and not foreshadowed at all, which is a bit disappointing, but under the circumstances understandable. Yes, I would love to have it foreshadowed more, especially in season 2. But I get that the showrunners didn’t want to make a big deal out of it, to contribute to the culture of “being trans is OK and totally normal, actually”. It’s very tricky to handle this kind of thing well, especially with the bajillion other plot points to get to.
There are three things that shed a whole new, somewhat tragic light on this post. a) author is very clearly a TERF, like, this very post has a hashtag “terf safe” *surprised pikachu face* b) author supposedly battles gender dysphoria, calls themself a “lesbian” (that, is they are AFAB) c) author is a big fan of Elliot, whom they still call Ellen, and clearly considered him a role model back when he presented as a woman and lesbian
YEAAAH... So turns out there is a kinda sad story burried under the mountain of bad takes and TERF shennenigans? Which is why I am not going to reblog or @ this person. Maybe they will find my post and realize it’s about them, but I’d rather they don’t. This post really has nothing to offer them, really. If they ever realize the grass is greener for people like them on the other side (not saying everyone with dysphoria MUST be trans, but I am pretty sure it warrants at least an exploration of one’s gender identity, and her TERF friends sure as hell aren’t going to let them have that), it sure as hell won’t be trough a post roasting their bad Umbrella Academy takes.

I started to doubt LO and her criticism when she released the video denouncing the word Queer as a slur. Not only did that seem like a bad take, but she then proceeded to call The Rocky Horror Picture Show "Trans Blackface". I mean, it's one thing to not like the movie, but I don't think she understood the cultural significance of that movie at all. Midnight showings of Rocky Horror are where a LOT of LGBTQ+ teens/young adults (especially in small towns) could hang out safely ever since the movie came out. I'm not sure if I was the only person that felt that way when LO shit all over it.
i remember that right after that LO had a thing for insisting that all activist of the past were idiots for calling themselves queer and nobody owed them any respect because they were all problematic. i won't deny that the queer people of the past were far from perfect. but not because they embraced the queer identity on a time where they were actually getting killed or abused by authorities for being themselves. the community as a whole was (and in many ways still is) deeply racist, classist and pushed for "respectability politics" for way too long to the point that they end up putting on the side the most vulnerable people, all the POC, sex workers, poor and trans people who only had themselves to stand on, only for their labor to later be actively erased or forgotten.
ironically enough, with her "queer is a slur and anyone who reclaims it is a idiot making it harder for normal people like me to get the things we need!" she's actually the modern representation of those people of the past who would have told Marsha P. Johnson to step down from the stage because she made them look bad. not helped by the fact that Marsha was an active member of the drag community and LO also ranted about how considering drag as part of the LBGT+ community was offensive.
i guess at this point it shouldn't be surprising that LO's ignorance extends even to her own community and the people responsible for her being able to marry her wife. i had forgotten about "trans blackface", something that feels like something that is particularly not black would come up with. the thing that stayed with me all this time was she comparing queer people proudly existing as themselves with a nazi yelling a racial slur on a public space... all of that was so utterly wrong on all the ways anything can be wrong.

Chara had woken up in the middle of the night, she wasn't able to sleep because of her pregnancy, which was almost in the final stretch. She was going down the stairs calmly, when she heard the sound of loud voices coming from the basement of the house, it seemed that Gaster had brought someone there.
That scared her as no one knew where both of them lived and it made her go down the stairs in a hurry as it seemed like something very serious about it and she would find out who it was that was in their house. When going to the basement, she could hear two voices and one of them made her hair stand up on her body, as it was the voice of Sans, who seemed quite furious with the man who was in his workplace.
And that made Chara open the door quite quickly, causing the two men to be surprised by her, the woman seemed a little scared by the presence of the older skeleton, as she never imagined that he would know where the two lived. and their identities. Sans was ecstatic with her, even Gaster who didn't show much reaction with the woman before, but this time was different, because it was a situation where both of them were involved.
Chara started trying to ask what that was all about, because her neurons were trying to process what was really happening, her indignation at the skeleton's presence was much greater. Gaster tried to get Chara to calm down, on account of her pregnancy, otherwise that anger could harm the child, but Sans stopped the man from touching the youngest, as if he saw him as a threat to her and her son.
Chara: _What is all this?! And what do you want with us?! How did you find out where we lived?!
Gaster: _Chara, calm down, because it could harm the baby...!
Chara: _Calm down?! I want to know what this skeleton is doing here! Because there was no way to know who we are...!
Sans: _And that's where you're wrong, Chara. I already had a notion that it was the two of you, as your souls weren't fully hidden and your actions were quite clear.
Gaster: _I forgot he was an old assistant of mine, but you won't stop my plan from being completed.
Chara: _Wait, what plan?!
Gaster: _Did you forget, Chara? Our deal was to save you and then have me return to my universe, use your child as a powerful new form that can be quite useful.
Chara: _But you told me that she would not suffer any damage and that she would be safe...!
Sans: He was manipulating your mind, I know him better than anyone and I know very well the intentions he has with you and our child.
Gaster: _Look, it seems that he discovered my objective of my plan...! (he said ironically)
Chara: _You miserable... So that's why you wanted to use my soul and my body, along with my DNA with Sans's to create a new being and end peace between humans and monsters...
Gaster: _Not so much, I also plan on using your spawn to travel to other dimensions and timelines, doing so completely my domain and erasing some alternate dimensions.
Sans: _I won't let you lay a finger on Chara and our son, W.D Gaster.
Chara: _Did you already know about his plan...?
Sans: _Unfortunately yes...
Chara: _Then why did he just use me for that? As far as I know, I'm not the only one with a soul of determination.
Sans: _He had his eye on you, since the moment you fell underground and became part of the Dreemurr's family, he knew that if you put together the soul of a monster and a human, it could give rise to a powerful being. Just as you and Asriel joined your souls and he became a God of Destruction.
Chara: _All this time, even though I died once...
Gaster: _You will never stop me from completing my plan, because I have my secrets that I keep under my sleeve. And by the way, Chara, I was also able to collect some of your determination to be able to implant it in the other monsters and if it results in what I'm planning.
Chara: _You sadist...!
At that moment, Sans used his magic and managed to take Gaster's soul, causing him to be thrown to the other side of the basement. Chara despaired, as she knew that both monsters were strong and she felt her soul caught by the skeleton.
Sans took Chara close to him and with that he used his teleportation to get out of that place, as he didn't want the woman to be tortured by that man he partnered with as a real scientist underground. He regretted trying to bring Gaster back to his dimension, as he never imagined that he would still be with this idea after falling inside the machine he built himself.
But when he was teleported along with Chara, he sensed Gaster's presence, as he knew his location. Sans told the woman not to walk away from him and she obeyed him, because she felt betrayed after hearing the truth about the man's plan and didn't want her child to be tortured by him.
At that moment, Gaster appeared in front of the two, causing Sans to activate his right eye in an intense cyan blue. Chara was also ready, with her eyes blood red, but she knew she couldn't fight the man as he was stronger than herself.
Sans: _Chara, run away from here and protect the child inside you...!
Chara: _You can leave it, Sans...
Gaster: _It's useless to try to run away from me.
Sans: _I won't let you touch her or my son.
Gaster: _It seems that humans have changed their minds, don't you, Sans?
Sans: _Shut up! (He said using his Gaster Blaster)
Gaster: _Too slow. (He says creating a shield with a green soul)
-
In the meantime, Chara was as far away as possible from that battle, which she could see from afar, several gasters blasters, bones and attacks that she was scared with the size of the two monsters. She was very constrained by her pregnancy and did not have the power of teleportation to go to Toriel and Asgora's house, which was the only place where she could protect herself with her son.
However, in the middle of this walk, even tired, she felt a strong pain in her belly, Chara felt that that would be the moment and that her son would be born, even though it was a little too early and it wasn't the time to happen. She couldn't walk anymore and the pain only increased, so much so that she fell to the floor, holding her belly.
Her eyes flowed with tears, because that pain was unbearable, her water had burst and there was also a little blood between her legs, in that she despaired, because there was no one in that place to help and she was afraid of losing her baby for account of it. She was getting weak from the pain and also from the loss of blood and ended up passing out halfway, but she hadn't realized that Asriel and Kris were in that place, where it was a forest with a dirt road.
They were startled by that scene and quickly went to help the woman who was passed out, but when Asriel saw her face, he was static, as he was a childhood friend of hers. He was discredited, because she had died many years ago and it would not be possible to bring her back to life.
Kris: _What happened, Asriel...?!
Asriel: _This is Chara...!
Kris: _Chara? Who is she? Do you know her?
Asriel: Yes!
Immediately, Asriel and Kris took Chara to Toriel and Asgore's house and from there they were amazed at the presence of their own daughter, who was alive and weakened at the same time. Toriel quickly helped the two brothers carry Chara to her room and tend to her and the child in her womb, as she had lost a lot of blood.
Frisk had never imagined this would happen, she and her parents and siblings were in disbelief with her presence, especially with the child she carried inside her. She saw the woman being taken care of by her adoptive mother and could see that the child was out of her belly, as she realized that she had gone into labor and it had taken Alphys' help to remove the child from her womb.
The child was born alive, but everyone was scared by her shape, because she had pale skin, skeleton arms and had no eyes, just two white monster pupils, her hair was brown like Chara's and it was noticeable that she was born with two souls in your body.
Chara was unconscious, as she was weak from blood loss and her daughter was born very early, the woman's parents had to ask Alphys to put the child inside a glass dome, which the scientist brought when she arrived in a hurry when knew to Chara and her child that they were at risk. But in that desperate moment for her family, Sans had teleported to the place where they were, because when she finally got to Gaster, he got out of there quickly, because he knew he would go after him.
Toriel: _How terrible!
Asgore: _That bastard...!
Asriel: _Mine must have a lot...
Kris: _Wow.
Frisk: _Chara...
Alphys: _He's after you?
Sans: _Unfortunately yes...
Asriel: _We need to protect Chara and my niece!
Sans: _Wait, is she a girl?
Toriel: _Yes, but she was born premature and is inside a glass dome with some tubes to breathe.
Alphys: _We get scared when I see the child hard to believe in that and after we finish sewing the child's womb from the dome with the tubes for her.
Sans: _Can I see her?
Asgore: _Yes, don't worry, the two are sound asleep.
Sans: _Right... (He said in Chara's room)
Kris: _Poor child, he was born so early...
Asriel: Something must have_ with her, in the meantime.
Alphys: _Probably Chara's body rejected her daughter, because of the chromosomes and DNA that were used when they merged inside her.
Toriel: _Is she going to be okay?
Alphys: _I don't know the possibility, but I'm afraid I've never worked with hybrids of monsters and humans. In my opinion, I think the chance of her surviving is pretty low.
Asgore: _And as for her two souls.
Alphys: _And therein lies the problem, it was for her to be born with only one soul, even if it was half a monster and the other a human. Because in my research and people here on the surface that I met, they said that if a hybrid or monster and human had two souls in a single body, they could die because their physique could not withstand the immense power of the human soul and the magic of the soul of one. monster.
Toriel: _Wow, I had no idea about that, that poor child must be suffering a lot...
Alphys: _Yes...
-
In Chara's Room...
Sans was watching the woman who remained asleep because of her blood loss, he felt guilty for having realized it so late and also for letting Chara be manipulated by Gaster. He looked at the glass dome where his daughter was, she was so small and her skin was very pale, it was a little transparent, because she was born too premature and it was very noticeable to her veins and arteries, Sans could also see two souls in the child and that made him perplexed.
Sans: _Why did this have to happen to you...?!
He knew that if a living being has two souls in a single body, he could easily die because of it, so he despaired, because it was not enough for Chara to have had her daughter very early, now the chance of her child surviving was very low. . But when he went to try to approach the child, he heard a noise inside the room, it was Undyne and Susie who had said that the man Sans had told him was after Chara and her daughter.
The skeleton quickly teleported to the place, then he realized that everyone was afraid of the presence of that man, who was Gaster and his face was full of immense hatred when he looked at the skeleton again. Sans activated his right eye and asked that Undyne and Susie along with Kris, get Chara and her daughter out of there and protect her.
-
Sans got to where Gaster was and then they both started a fight that almost put the skeleton's life at risk, but he needed to do it to protect his daughter and Chara. Gaster had been furious that he was losing his plan because of his former lab assistant.
But during this fight that was taking place, a very strong light had appeared in the middle of it, causing almost the two skeletons to be blind, despite having no eyes. It was a light of an intense red color and it came from Shara, the daughter of Chara and Sans, who disbelieved what she saw, because even Chara was amazed.
When the two were hiding in Toriel's room, Shara started crying from the pain she was feeling in her lungs and as Chara had become a mother, she automatically woke up to her daughter's crying. At the exact moment she got up, even weak from the loss of blood, she watched her daughter.
At that moment she was amazed, because her two souls were shining very brightly, especially the human soul of determination. And that's what it ended up with when trying to touch her daughter, she was teleported into the middle of the fight between Sans and Gaster, she was amazed at this event.
Sans: _Chara what's going on?! And why is Shara out of the glass dome?!
Chara: _It wasn't me who took her out of there, she was the one who transported her here!
Sans: _What do you mean?!
Gaster: _Looks like my plan hasn't failed once and for all...
However, before Gaster dared to say anything else, he was hit by a Gaster Blaster, followed by bones and red knives that wiped out almost all of his HP. Chara and Sans were stunned by that and saw that he did that, they looked at their little daughter who had her eyelids open, even though she was still premature, she had her right orbit in a blue color and another one with a pupil in bright red , thus making her the cause of the attack for Gaster.
The man was passed out and with his HP at a very low number, he couldn't even get up off the ground and that made the other monsters able to trap him. Shara's parents were discredited with that scene, but they remembered that she was the result of an experiment by Gaster and managed to realize that she became stronger than them, even though she didn't fully develop.
Shara started crying again, so soon the parents realized that they should put her back in the glass dome, when Chara tried to take a step forward, she ended up losing her strength due to lack of blood, but Sans was faster and managed to catch her before she went straight to the ground along with her daughter. As he put Chara to bed and Shara in the dome, he had been thoughtful about what had just happened and never imagined that his daughter could become this powerful, he felt happy for his daughter to defeat Gaster and promised himself that he would take care of her and her. Chara who was by his side.
Sans: _I'm proud of you, little one... (He said near the glass dome, while Shara slept on her breathing apparatus)
-
After many years, when Shara turned eight years old, she ran through the fields of golden flowers along with Chara and Sans, who had a slight smile on their faces, especially her, who was the face of her father. She had managed to recover from the birth, including her mother who also had a great loving and reciprocal relationship, coming from Sans.
Shara was happy to have her parents, because even though she was just a child, she could remember everything that had happened when she was just a baby, she developed her power of two souls in time to protect her parents and even the days of today, she continues to protect them, due to the prejudice that the living beings of the surface have against them, for being a couple of a monster with a human.
But that doesn't make Shara give up on living normally with her parents, she always has the determination inside her, just like her mother and her aunt and uncle. She was holding hands with her parents and had a smile that lit up the couple with joy.
Shara: _Mom, Dad. I love you...! (she said smiling)
Chara/Sans: _We love you too, Shara...!
- End.

It’s a groundbreaking, game-changing discovery, and Ladybug’s head is already spinning from the fact that finding out Shadowmoth’s identity finally puts them ahead of him for once. The fact that he’s Gabriel Agreste brings quite a few other implications, and the one that bothers her the most is Adrien. But she doesn’t dare focus on that now. “Chat,” she says, turning to her partner. “Since we know Shadowmoth’s identity, we can start planning—Chat? Are you listening?” He’s not looking at her, rather staring at the cityscape sprawled in front of them. It’s too dark for Ladybug to see his expression when she doesn’t have night vision like he does, but the lighting is enough to show his body language: shoulders slumped forward, chin tucked towards his chest, and a sort of rigid nervousness to his posture. His arms hang limply at his side, fingers curled into loose fists. “Chat?” Ladybug takes a step closer to him. “Hey. Are you okay?” Emerald green disappears and reappears as he blinks rapidly. She takes another step forward; he angles his body away from her. “Chat?” she repeats for the third time, reaching for his hand. He jolts away the moment Ladybug makes contact, and she startles back as well, surprised by his reaction. He’s never flinched away from her before. Ladybug wracks her mind for all the things that could be wrong with finding out that Gabriel Agreste is Shadowmoth, but Gabriel is an elusive, withdrawn man: she can’t imagine how in the world he would affect Chat Noir. Perhaps he’s a fan of fashion? Perhaps—he works at Gabriel brand? No, that can’t be. He’s her age. “I have to go,” Chat Noir says slowly, as if each word has a heavy weight attached to the end of them. “I-I really have to go.” “Chat—” “I’m going to transform back soon,” he cuts in. “I-I’ll see you later, Ladybug. I’m sorry.” She doesn’t have time to point out that he hasn’t used his cataclysm at all that night before he’s already gone.
______
Marinette’s distracted. Tikki sits perched on one of her erasers as she lists out all of the evidence she can think of that Gabriel Agreste is Shadowmoth. It matches up. Everything does. Marinette still can’t put a motive to the actions, but it’s not as if Gabriel Agreste is known for being a saint—she may admire his fashion, but the admiration ends there. She has no lost love for a man who locks his son up for no reason, and from what she’s heard from Nino, constantly threatens Adrien about withdrawing him from school. Come to think of it, her days of admiring Gabriel’s presence in the fashion industry have long become overshadowed by more negative sentiments towards him. Just like the first time she’d suspected him, she’s not particularly upset that it’s him. But she is, for Adrien. “Tikki,” she mumbles, scratching out the doodle of a cat she had ended up sketching. “Do you think Adrien knows his father is Shadowmoth? Do you think he’s involved?” “Do you think he’s involved?” “No,” Marinette answers immediately. “He wouldn’t. I know he wouldn’t.” “Then trust your instinct.” She stares forlornly at her piece of paper. “Why was Chat Noir upset today when we found out? Does he know Gabriel Agreste as a civilian? Even knowing Shadowmoth’s identity, I can’t do anything about it without his help.” Tikki doesn’t answer any of the questions. Instead, she asks one of her own: “Are you going to reveal Shadowmoth’s identity to the public?” That’s an option Marinette had considered, but again, she doesn’t want to go ahead with anything without Chat Noir’s input. Additionally, knowing Shadowmoth’s identity while he remains unaware of what they’ve discovered is a tactical advantage she doesn’t want to lose. “I don’t know what to do,” she admits to Tikki. “I guess I’ll ask Chat Noir when I see him.”
______
She doesn’t see Chat Noir. The next day on patrol, he’s missing. Her messages pile up; she asks him for his whereabouts, asks him if he’s okay, asks him whether or not they should reveal Shadowmoth’s identity to the public—none of which he reads, much less answers. Ladybug patrols on her own, dejected and put off and concerned. She never quite feels Chat Noir’s presence until his absence; now that he’s gone, she finds herself looking for that hint of green and gold on black, only to find it missing. It feels odd. It feels wrong. It’s like the world has tilted off its axis, but only Ladybug notices.
______
Shadowmoth doesn’t akumatize more people, and Chat Noir doesn’t show up to anymore patrols. His disappearance and his reaction to Gabriel Agreste’s secret is much too timed to be a coincidence, but no matter how she thinks about it, Ladybug can’t figure out why. On the second day she patrols alone, she tells herself that she ought to be annoyed with him. It’s harder to cover everything on her own, she thinks as she swings through the rooftops, and that means she has less time to herself to do homework and design. But when she drops down through the skylight and sits at her desk, it’s not annoyance as much as it is worry that keeps her restless all night. On the third day, when he doesn’t come, a sudden, terrifying thought creeps up against her will and overwhelms all other thoughts. What if, for some reason, this is the end? What if Chat Noir never comes back, never shows up, and she'll remain none the wiser of who he is? That’s the thing about Chat Noir: he’s always there, always a constant, to the point that Ladybug barely worries about if there’ll ever be a chance that he’s not. And now that he is—well, not—the possibility is giant and unspeakable and it hurts. She never expected them to ever have to say a goodbye, but even if they do, she’s imagined it to be one that’s heartfelt and full of promises, because of everything they’ve been through together and everything they are to each other. Now, the prospect that they might not even have a goodbye to say—that they’ll part like this, unexplainably, without her ever knowing how to find him—is the worst sort of hurt. She thinks of looking through seas of people for blonde hair and green eyes and a lopsided smile and not being able to find the one that’s him. Or worse, seeing him and not recognizing him. It’s an awful thought.
______
Only after the fourth time does she dare think about the fact that it might be Ladybug that Chat Noir is somehow upset with. So when Marinette detransforms in her room, she digs up her phone and texts Chat Noir from her number there. [8:54pm] marinette dupain-cheng want to help me with a design? The message shows as delivered, but not read. She brings upstairs a plate of his favourite pastries, then leaves a small crack in the skylight. She allows herself to hope that he will come. It’s three in the morning when Marinette finally wrestles and loses with the truth that he isn’t about to show up, and she drags herself to bed exhausted.
______
Hope’s an awful thing, really. It’s no use, Marinette tries to tell herself when she sends Chat Noir a second message, but her brain says one thing yet her heart another. She sets out another plate of pastries. She leaves the crack in her skylight again. He still doesn’t come.
______
On the third night, she finally musters the courage to send a text that’s less artificial. [8:32pm] marinette dupain-cheng hey, are you okay? i haven’t heard from you for a while She won’t bring up the pastries or open the skylight today, Marinette decides, because doing so makes her hope. Disappointment hurts some, but hope always hurts more. Except this time, a couple minutes later, the message shows up as read. Not delivered, but read. Chat Noir has seen it. [8:38pm] marinette dupain-cheng do you want to come over and talk? He doesn’t read this one, but Marinette heads downstairs, brings another assorted plate of pastries to her room, then opens the skylight just a crack, like she’s done two times before. It’s been raining miserably the entire day, and the weather has shown no signs of ceasing. A bit of water drips down from the opening. She checks her phone. Her second message hasn’t been read yet. Minutes trickle past, water trickles in. The clock hits nine o’clock; the wet spot from the rain grows from a speck of dark colour to the size of her hand. There is no Chat Noir. By the time it’s nine thirty, Marinette has coached herself through the process of coming to terms with the fact that Chat Noir doesn’t want to see her, as Ladybug or as Marinette. She knows she should take the pastries back downstairs and sleep. Close the skylight before her blankets become more rain-soaked. That’s the sensible thing to do. But sensibility feels wrong, because there is nothing sensible when her entire world feels like it’s been turned upside-down. So Marinette curls around her phone, open to her messages with Chat Noir, and hopes even though hoping hurts. She thinks of other things to say. At some point, she writes out I miss you, but it seems silly and she deletes it. Marinette and Chat Noir are friends, but as Marinette—what right does she have to say that to him? It’s nearing ten when her skylight creaks quietly. Immediately, Marinette sits up. Perhaps it’s just the wind. The spot of rain on her bed has grown. Then, with a very quiet thump, Chat Noir lands on her bed. Marinette doesn’t know what exactly to feel. There’s anger at him for disappearing without word or trace; there’s concern over what happened with him; there’s an overwhelming, selfish sense of relief that he’s here, that she gets to see him again, that her worst fears from the past few days haven’t come true. For a moment, she sits there, unsure of what to do, keenly aware that she’s Marinette, not Ladybug. Chat crouches back on his heels, blinking rapidly. His hair clings against his face, wet from the rain, which drips from every part of him: nose, lips, eyes. Then she realizes belatedly that he’s also crying. It seems like a good excuse to hug him and not be weird about it. She reaches for Chat Noir, and he barely hesitates before tumbling into her arms. His suit is soaked from the rain, and the cold water seeps into her pajamas, into her skin, and finally settles in bone-deep with an acute sense that something is terribly, awfully wrong. He grips her tightly, shaking, but barely makes a noise as he cries. Marinette has seen Chat Noir hurt, angry, frustrated, sad, dejected, but not like this. He’s trembling like a leaf, clutching her like a lifeline that’s hanging on by a thread, sobbing soundless sobs until it hurts her too. “Chat,” she says quietly, tapping against his back. “Chat, what’s wrong? Where have you been?” “I messed up,” he replies, and his voice is hoarse and grated in a way that tells Marinette he’s been crying for a while. “I really, really messed up.” She can’t, for the life of her, think of what Chat Noir could’ve done that was so horrid to put him in such a state. A very selfish part of her wants to keep holding onto him and say all the words that she can’t, but Marinette isn’t brave enough to. Instead, she carefully untangles herself from him and sits back so she can see his face. He wipes his hands under his eyes. “I’m sorry,” he manages. “I didn’t want to intrude. I-I just didn’t know where else to go.” “You’re not intruding,” she reassures. I’ve been looking for you for days. “But… what happened?” He swallows, opens his mouth, shuts it, then averts his gaze. The silence that lingers is a fragile thing. Finally, just when Marinette can’t take the quiet anymore, he blurts, “Ladybug and I have found out who Shadowmoth is.” She stiffens. Chat remains staring at his hands. “We found out his real identity,” he repeats. “Name and all. It was supposed to be a win for us. Know who he is, know where to find him, know how to take him down. All that, you know?” Marinette’s mind goes back to all of the notes she’d taken the day after they’d discovered Gabriel Agreste’s secret. She hadn’t been able to reach a conclusion as to why Chat Noir would be so upset about it then; she still isn’t able to now. Her mouth feels dry when she finally asks, “What happened after?” He wipes his hands under his eyes one more time even if the action is fruitless. “What happened,” Chat echoes slowly, “is that I also found out that Shadowmoth is my father.” The entire world stutters, stills, stops. That can’t be possible. Because—because Shadowmoth is Gabriel Agreste, and Gabriel Agreste only has one son, who is Adrien Agreste. So if Shadowmoth is Gabriel Agreste and Chat Noir is Shadowmoth’s son, then… The world starts up again, in the most jarring way possible. The puzzle pieces fit together, but Marinette hadn’t known that making sense of something was supposed to hurt so much. It takes all of her to remember that Chat Noir—Adrien Agreste—doesn’t know that she knows who Shadowmoth is. Doesn’t know that she knows who he is. Her voice sounds disconnected from her body, a dissonant cadence of sound that barely has any meaning. “Did you tell Ladybug?” Chat’s shoulders hunch even more. “No,” he admits. “I’ve been avoiding her. I don’t know how I’m supposed to face her.” Chat Noir. Adrien Agreste. All this time, had it really been him? Her mind is a tangled mess, and even though Marinette tries, it’s so difficult to focus on anything. All this while—it had been Adrien Agreste all along, next to her when nobody else was? “I’m sorry,” Marinette finally manages out. What can she even say to that? In a strange, twisted way, she thinks, the problem of having to tell Adrien that his father has been terrorizing Paris for a year has been solved. “But it’s not… it’s not your fault.” Chat Noir is a good amount taller than her, but he looks impossibly small right then, like he’s been trying to shrink into himself as much as possible. “In hindsight, I don’t even know if I should be surprised.” He looks up, and the corners of his mouth lift in an attempt of a smile that looks more like a wince. “It’s not like this is the first time he’s disappointed me.” Maybe it’s that stupid attempt at smiling when he’s clearly in pain that snaps Marinette out of her shocked daze. Or maybe it’s the way he says the words, hopeless, resigned, casualness thinly veiled over hurt. Maybe it’s because she knows exactly what he’s talking about, because she knows the disappointed way Adrien’s shoulders stoop every time he says, Father changed his mind, or Father won’t allow me, I’m sorry. Or maybe it’s because she knows him as Chat Noir, brave and loyal and irreplaceable, and as Adrien, selfless and kind and wonderful—and knows with every fiber of her being that he deserves so, so much better. In a voice much steadier than before she scooches closer to Chat Noir and leans down so she can look him in the eye. “Shadowmoth being your father isn’t your fault. You didn’t have any control over that. It doesn’t change the fact that you’ve been protecting Paris against him for months.” “I know that,” Chat says, “and I know at the end of the day, I’m going to… I’m going to have to fight him. I’m going to have to stop him. Because that’s what’s right, and because that’s what I’m supposed to do, and because I don’t want to have him hurting more people. But I thought about it, you know? What if I tried to talk to him? Asked him to stop? If he knew it was me he was fighting, would he care enough about me to give it up?” He presses the heels of his palm against his face, covering his eyes. “Then I remember that he can’t even bother to show up to a dinner he promised to eat with me, and I think—who am I even kidding?” There is a moment of silence as Marinette grapples with what to say. Chat Noir sniffles again. “And I also get this thought th-that maybe I should give him my Miraculous. Maybe he has a real, legitimate, worthy reason for doing this, and if I help him, maybe he’ll be proud of me or something. It’s stupid. I won’t do it. But I still—” His voice breaks. “I still can’t help but think about it.” He finally sets his hands down and lets out a shaky exhale. She can still see tear tracks on his face, but he doesn’t seem to be crying anymore at the minute. He gives her a very wobbly attempt at a smile then soon seems to realize that it’s not working. “So yeah. I don’t know what I’m even supposed to do now. I mean—I know, but I’m scared. To face Ladybug, to tell her, and to see how she reacts. Because what if she hates me for it? We’ve been fighting for Shadowmoth for nearly a year, and I’ve seen how he’s hurt her and how upset she’s gotten because of him. Yet he’s been my father all along.” Marinette stares at him. “Do you really think Ladybug would hate you?” He’s quiet for a couple of seconds. She waits, nervous, scared for the answer. Finally, slowly, “No. She wouldn’t. She’s not like that.” “Then why?” He gestures around himself, then seems to give up. “Because Ladybug doesn’t deserve this.” Marinette presses her lips together. Her eyes sting, but she doesn’t want to cry in front of him, because it hardly feels fair to Chat Noir. “This has nothing to do with Ladybug,” she manages, and miraculously doesn’t burst into tears then and there. “This isn’t fair to you. You haven’t done anything wrong, and if she knew, she would be saying the same thing. Shadowmoth’s your father? It doesn’t change everything you’ve done for Paris. It doesn’t change the sort of person you are.” Each word is slightly easier than the last, because Marinette means them with all she is. She moves closer to Chat Noir, so that their knees are touching. Pressing her palms against his cheeks, she lifts his face enough so she can stare at him. “You’re kind, and you’re loyal, and you’re brave, and in every way, you measure up to Ladybug. That’s never, ever changed. Not before, and not now. Don’t let anyone tell you differently. Especially yourself.” He blinks at her, green eyes wide, and Marinette suddenly remembers that she’s not Ladybug right now. She drops Chat’s face, but his gaze remains fixed on her. “If Ladybug doesn’t feel the same, then she’s wrong.” He lets out another sharp breath, and it takes Marinette a moment to realize that he’d let out a laugh. It’s shaky and hoarse, but it feels more genuine than the last. “I’m flattered you think so highly of me,” he manages out, but it’s a far cry from his usual teasing. “Thanks, Marinette.” The silence that lingers this time is longer. They sit across from each other as Marinette struggles with what to do next. He’d inadvertently revealed his identity to her; is she supposed to do the same? It feels like the wrong moment—hey, by the way, I’ve been talking about myself in third person this whole conversation because I’m actually Ladybug, haha, surprise!—but it doesn’t seem fair to Chat—to Adrien. Before Marinette can come to a decision, Chat shifts backwards. “I got water all over your duvet,” he points out. “I’m sorry.” She shrugs. “I’ve had the skylight open for nearly two hours, and that’s been dripping water the whole time. It’s fine. I’m just glad you came.” “Me too.” His voice is quiet, but it’s earnest. “I think I really needed to hear that. Thank you.” Her throat closes up. He had kept it to himself for days, and the thought of Chat Noir carrying that hurt and confusion and pain all alone makes her chest ache. She reaches for Chat’s hand again. “I’ll always be here for you,” she promises, and she wishes he could know she means it not as Marinette only but as Ladybug as well. “No matter what, Chat. I promise.” He pulls her into a second hug, which is a good thing, because it means he can’t see her face. There’s apparently a limit to how much tears your waterline can hold before they come dripping down. Marinette does her best to blink the tears away before Chat Noir can question why she’s crying too. She’s not sure how long they stay there. She grips Chat Noir tight, desperately hoping he knows she meant every word she said and more, wishing he could hear what she wants to tell him but can’t bring herself to. When he sits back, he looks much better than the first time around. He rubs his palms under his eyes, and they come away dry. “I should probably get going. It’s really late and I don’t want to disturb you any longer.” “You’re not disturbing me, and I consistently sleep after twelve anyway.” He gnaws on his lip. “Still. I don’t want… I don’t want anybody at home noticing I’m gone.” Oh. Oh, right. Given how strict she knows Gabriel Agreste is with Adrien, it’s a miracle that he manages to sneak out so much as Chat Noir. And there are so many small details that start making sense, like why Chat Noir had always been late whenever an akuma involved Adrien, or… why he had tried so desperately as Aspik. Come to think of it, the first time she’d ever suspected Gabriel Agreste to be Hawkmoth, he had been shocked and upset. “Do you want…” She gestures at her desk, where the plate of pastries sit. “Do you want something to eat before you go? I brought up pastries for you in case you dropped by.” He follows the direction she pointed in. “You brought them up for me?” “I thought maybe I’d summon you with them.” The corners of his lips twitch. “Guess you did.” “Third time’s the charm,” she replies, and Chat Noir freezes. “Third time?” he echoes. “Does that mean you’ve been waiting for me to come by?” Any other time, Marinette might’ve refuted the claim. But instead, she nods. “I was worried about you. And wanted to make sure you were okay. I guess I missed you too.” He sniffles slightly. Then, for the third time that night, reaches for a hug. She returns it readily. It’s too selfish a thought to admit aloud, but Marinette feels as if she needs the hug as much as Chat does. It’s been five long days of waiting and worrying, five long days of uncertainty, and the physical reminder that he’s there, not gone, is comforting. “Thanks,” Chat repeats. “I’m so glad to have a friend like you.” I’m luckier, Marinette wants to interject, but she doesn’t. A minute later, Chat lets go of her with an embarrassed cough. “I think I really do need to go now,” he says sheepishly. “I’ll come find you some other day, though. If you want.” “Come by whenever you want.” It feels necessary to verbally affirm it so he knows. “I’ll just… give you a bag of pastries? To-go?” “Okay,” he agrees. “That sounds good. Thanks, Marinette.” She climbs down her bed, stuffs as many pastries as she can in a bag, and then climbs back up to hand it to Chat. He’s staring at his hands when she looks at him, eyes slightly glazed. “Hey.” Marinette nudges him, and he looks up. “Can you promise me you’ll talk to Ladybug about it?” She sees him hesitate. Then, “Yes.” She holds out her pinkie to him. “Promise me?” A snort escapes him, but he hooks his finger around hers. “Paw-mise.” Marinette tries unsuccessfully to hide her laugh as a cough. His eyes widen. “Did you finally laugh at my pun?” “No.” “You did.” “Did not.” “I saw you,” he shoots back. “I’ll get going, then.” Chat’s reaching to open the skylight again when Marinette’s suddenly reminded of the fact that it’s still raining outside. “One more thing before you go,” she tells him. He gives her a confused look, but doesn’t question it. As quickly as possible, she scrambles down her bed to find the black umbrella that sits at the corner of her room. When she returns to Chat’s side, she can see him eyeing it. Marinette offers it to him. “It’s raining,” she explains. “You don’t want to catch a cold.” “I’ll be fine—” “Just make sure you return it,” she interrupts. “Someone really important to me gave me that umbrella.” She sees surprise cross his face, then recognition. Then, finally, he accepts it with a small smile. “Will do.” He lifts the skylight open, clutching onto both the umbrella and pastries with the other hand. “Thanks for the pastries,” he calls. “And the umbrella. And for… well, everything else.” Everything else. Neither of them have to specify what everything else entails. She blinks at him. “Thanks for trusting me.” His expression softens. “I’ll see you soon?” She nods at him, not quite able to form the words. Chat Noir shuts the skylight softly, and the trickle of water inside stops. Marinette knows she ought to sleep if she wants to operate as a fully functional person the next day, but she just can’t. She stares at the spot of rain on her bed, where Chat—Adrien Agreste—had been sitting mere minutes before. In hopes of falling asleep if she’s lying down, Marinette crawls under her blankets again. But she’s wide-awake no matter what she does. Halfway through counting sheep, she’s unconsciously switched to counting all the times she’d run into Adrien as Ladybug and wondering how did I not know? Hindsight is always twenty-twenty, of course, but it feels so obvious now. It feels so right. Thirty minutes later, she’s finally come to terms with the fact that sleep is a lost cause. Marinette looks at her window, where streaks of water run down glass without any signs of ceasing. Chat has probably gotten home by now. After all, the Agreste mansion isn’t far. Right. The Agreste mansion isn’t far. Marinette crawls out of her blankets. It’s late, but something tells her that Adrien isn’t asleep yet. A transformation later, she’s climbing out of her skylight and heading out to find him.

why do you ship chell and glados if glados is basically her mom
Okay this is actually a pretty common misconception in the fandom that unfortunately a lot of people have taken as canon, but I’m feeling nice so I’ll answer your question.
Basically, anon is referencing a theory from around 2012 that Caroline is Chell’s mom. The evidence for the theory is as follows:
- The turret opera calls Chell “bambina”, which means “little girl” in Italian
- Chell’s name can be found on a Bring Your Daughter To Work Day science project
- GLaDOS references the possibility of Chell being adopted multiple times
- GLaDOS is significantly nicer to Chell after discovering she’s Caroline
And, anon, you’re right, it does sound like a pretty good argument at first glance. The problem is that a lot of these points don’t actually hold up to scrutiny.
For example, although “bambina” literally translates to “little girl,” it’s often used in the same way “baby girl” is used in English - it can mean child, but contextually it’s usually a flirtatious term. (Source: Cambridge Dictionary)
Tumblr media
For Chell’s science project, it doesn’t work as evidence for the theory because GLaDOS killed the scientists around 1998-ish, when Caroline had presumably been uploaded several years earlier and Cave was already dead. Also, Chell’s in her 20′s, and since we know from Lab Rat/Portal 2 that people don’t age in stasis, and that Doug put Chell at the top of the test subject list only weeks after the takeover, Chell was 28 at the time of the takeover. The science project is really only an Easter egg and doesn’t actually fit into the canon timeline let alone prove anything about Caroline and Cave.
GLaDOS talking about Chell being adopted is a pretty strong point, I’ll admit, but also it’s important to remember that maybe half of what GLaDOS says is true. And even if we take what she says at face value, she also says there’s a man and a woman in stasis with Chell’s last name, which could not have been Cave and Caroline because they were already dead at that point. And the official book Final Hours Of Portal 2 confirms Cave and Caroline were not married and could not have shared the same name anyway. It was also the 50′s, an an unmarried couple of two likely famous people having a child would’ve been scandalous, and yet we see no hint of something like this affecting their company.
Also, although GLaDOS is nicer to Chell after the Caroline reveal, that’s not necessarily indicative of a mother-daughter relationship, and neither is any of their interactions. It’s just. GLaDOS being friendlier.
Finally, when this theory was made (and let’s be honest - it still is happening) Chell was constantly whitewashed to hell and back.
Chell is Japanese-Brazilian, and Cave and Caroline are white, so it would be a near impossibility for her to be their biological child (and insisting otherwise is kinda. just. whitewashing). And although people will cry “adoption!”, based on what I’ve previously proven, that’s pretty much impossible. This theory that somehow she’s Cave and Caroline’s daughter erases an important part of her identity. [Disclaimer, I am white, but this is what I’ve heard from around the fandom]
With all that said, the idea that she’s the daughter of Cave and Caroline really doesn’t hold weight when you really analyze the canon. It’s surface level analysis that doesn’t hold up. And honestly? The idea kinda cheapens the story. It’s much more powerful that GLaDOS learns to care about Chell and becomes kinder than just. Oh, she remembered she’s related to Chell.
But to actually answer your ask.
Why do I ship them?
Well, they aren’t mother and daughter, I think that’s pretty obvious now. But if you actually look at a lot of subtext in Portal 2, without the lens of the mother theory, it’s actually pretty romantic!
I know that sounds ridiculous, but bear with me!
Now - it’s totally okay if you don’t ship them. I get it. Their interactions in Portal 1 and the first half of Portal 2 are toxic if not outright well. Y’know. Murderous. I completely understand why that turns people off from shipping them, and ultimately, shipping is a personal thing. To each his own.
But before you judge me, let me present my case.
Exhibit A: Portal
Portal is kinda gay. No, really. Chell and GLaDOS are enemies in this game, but the entire focus is on their relationship (good or not) and the power struggle between them. They are opposites, two sides of the same coin, different representations of opposite ideologies. People have analyzed Portal as a relationship metaphor, or as a metaphor about women’s role in society - either way, the heart of Portal is the complicated dynamic between Chell and GLaDOS.
That’s not necessarily enough to code a romance, but a lot of popular (and especially popular queer ones) ships begin with opposite ideologies, symbolic powers colliding. Portal cements their relationship as a toxic one, something on the verge of falling apart and hurting both parties in the end. The ending image, of Chell and GLaDOS side by side after the battle, reinforces the symbolic parallels between the two.
Tumblr media
The companion cube is also pretty symbolically important to this interpretation. It’s literally a representation of someone’s heart, and you are told to protect it and preserve it under GLaDOS’ orders, and then you have to destroy it regardless of how you actually feel about doing that. You are destroying GLaDOS’ heart, so to speak.
Tumblr media
There’s also the ending song, Still Alive. The lyrics speak for themselves.
Tumblr media
They hint that GLaDOS’ feelings about Chell are more complicated than they may appear (if she’s not being sarcastic...) and she literally talks about Chell breaking her heart (also, think back to the companion cube. Yeah.). The entire song is structurally similar to many a breakup number, with the laments of “I’m glad it happened, but also leave.”
At the end, we also see that the long promised cake GLaDOS was supposedly lying about was real the whole time. Before Portal 2 came out, it was mostly interpreted as a stinger ending (along with the nicer lyrics of Still Alive) to make you question GLaDOS’ true motives and intentions.
Tumblr media
She actually did have a real cake waiting for you. (Side note - not really evidence, but in Argentina, “torta” means cake in Spanish. It’s also a slang term for lesbians. So. Do with that what you will). The cake is what GLaDOS offers you to lull you into the sense that she cares about you, so discovering that “the cake is a lie” wakes you up to the realization that she doesn’t. Except then the idea is subverted one last time, at the very end, showing that the cake is real and at least some of what she said she meant.
You also see the companion cube. You know, GLaDOS’ symbolic heart?
Now, okay, you might be thinking I’m extrapolating a bit too much. And you might be right. But Portal is not the only game in the series, and if you’re asking me about Cave and Caroline you obviously know about Portal 2.
Exhibit B: Portal 2
If you thought Portal was gay, Portal 2 turns that up to 11.
Even before GLaDOS wakes up, you’re treated to some visual subtext. A few of Rattmann’s drawings representing the events of Portal 2 focus a lot on the relationship between GLaDOS and Chell, with more of the cake symbolism.
Tumblr media
In this, you can see a face layered on top of GLaDOS. This could be foreshadowing about Caroline, and likely is, but also resembles his other drawing of Chell. It insists that Chell is a part of GLaDOS, or reinforces parallels between Chell and Caroline, hinting at something either way.
Tumblr media
In this picture, we also see Chell standing on top of GLaDOS, in the same position where the overlay of the feminine face was, again referencing the parallel. It also presents them as opposites, fundamental parts of the same thing and both connected to the same basis, but on opposing sides.
When GLaDOS wakes up, she returns to her antagonistic role, but there are more hints to something deeper just like in Portal.
Tumblr media
Here, in her awakening lines, she references Chell not unlike an estranged ex. Also worth noting that GLaDOS is pretty much the personification of testing (in a sense, she is testing since she can control all of Aperture like an extension of her body), and insinuates that Chell loves to test. And that she reciprocates that feeling.
In test chamber 10, she says this:
Tumblr media
It’s supposed to be threatening, but it does read as almost... sentimental.
There’s also another chamber with companion cubes in Portal 2. I already talked about their symbolism in Portal, and the same pretty much applies to them here. However, GLaDOS says something interesting about them during this level:
Tumblr media
Once again, meant to be intimidating, ends up coming off as “well, GLaDOS, why were you going to give Chell a heart shaped representation of yourself that says ‘I love you?’” And you might think I’m stretching the GLaDOS’ heart metaphor thing a little far here, and I might agree, if the companion cubes didn’t literally sing Cara Mia for you.
Cara Mia is the turret opera from the end of the game, which is all about how much GLaDOS cares about Chell. More on that later. But the companion cubes play a song called Love as A Construct, and when you get close to them, they sing a specific part of the song that has the tune of Cara Mia. These things literally exist to sing about GLaDOS’ feelings.
Which makes this line a lot more. For lack of a better term. Tsundere-ish.
Tumblr media
Then, right before the escape, she starts talking about the confetti from her fake surprise.
Tumblr media
I really don’t have to explain this one. What else does GLaDOS consider an inconvenience but might miss anyway? Or, more aptly, who else?
Then, during the escape, she teases a (fake) final test chamber in front of you, and forms the panels in the shape of a heart. No, really.
Tumblr media
Up to this point, a lot of the points I’ve presented are interspersed with a fair amount of antagonization on GLaDOS’ behalf, more Foe Yay than anything actually hinting at something deeper than GLaDOS being conflicted about whether she loves or hates Chell. But things really ramp up after Wheatley’s betrayal, when the two of them are forced to team up. (I should also note here that “enemies to lovers” is a pretty classic queer romance trope.)
Here, GLaDOS is put on an equal level with Chell and they have to rely on each other if they want to survive. For the rest of the singleplayer campaign, GLaDOS becomes a lot nicer and even friendly to Chell. There comes a point where she starts referring to Chell as a teammate, calling them “we.” She begins to consider them one unit, two opposites unified. Here’s what she says after the lemon rant:
Tumblr media
You can not only see her using we, but actively talking about how her and Chell are going to fight Wheatley together. There’s also that last line - “let’s explode with some dignity.” GLaDOS has fully accepted the very likely possibility that she and Chell might die together. That she might die on the same level, and the same team as Chell. And she seems... surprisingly okay with that, as long as she and Chell go together.
It’s during the Old Aperture levels that Chell and GLaDOS also discover that they have a lot in common. This is the part of the game where GLaDOS figures out she’s Caroline, that she’s human. Or, that she’s like Chell. And Chell discovers (from what we can tell anyway) that Caroline is kind, that she’s funny and smart and so many of these things she never noticed about GLaDOS before. Now also with the knowledge she is fighting alongside another human being.
You can also draw parallels between Chell and Caroline, both intelligent women ultimately betrayed by their seemingly innocuous male friends before being trapped in Aperture and forced to team up with one another in a way that will free both of them. We see that really, GLaDOS isn’t that different from Chell - she too has been imprisoned in this place against her will, but in a completely different way. Once again, the idea of two sides of the same coin applies here.
I’ve written another meta about this before, but I also think the whole idea of repressing a part of your identity and hating it, before bonding with another woman and then realizing that it’s okay to be like her and to be on her side. It’s okay to be yourself and meeting her is what helps you discover this new part of yourself. Is kinda inherently gay. GLaDOS’ discovery of her own humanity just fits so well into a queer realization narrative, to me at least.
Then, Chell and GLaDOS escape Old Aperture and have to get through Wheatley’s tests.
Here, GLaDOS isn’t just begrudgingly on Chell’s team. She’s actively helpful. She wants to help Chell solve tests, defends her from Wheatley’s insults, and makes jokes to lighten the mood. Things that can really only be explained by her caring about Chell, especially the part about the insults. See below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the two escape Wheatley’s testing track, right before the boss fight GLaDOS has a few other things to say.
Tumblr media
GLaDOS is not going to betray Chell, because of some kind of conscience. But she could easily ignore that back in her body, and yet? Here she’s deciding not to, and for no good reason. She didn’t have to say that to Chell, but she did, because she cares and she wants Chell to live.
And then, moments before the fight:
Tumblr media
The final lines imply that GLaDOS does not think of Chell as an enemy anymore, and that it doesn’t matter what Chell thinks because they are in this together and they are getting revenge together. It’s pretty heartwarming to be honest, to know that even in a fight that will almost certainly kill you, she is there rooting for you and caring about you, even if you don’t feel the same way about her. It no longer matters to GLaDOS whether you even reciprocate - you staying alive, you making it through is enough for her.
So Chell fights Wheatley and sends him into space, all well and good, and at this point, GLaDOS has the option to kill Chell. But not only does she not, she actively saves Chell, and holds her hand in the process. If you don’t believe me:
Tumblr media
And not only that, but when Chell goes unconscious from her injuries, GLaDOS sits and waits for her to wake up. It’s also implied that GLaDOS carries her to the elevator, since it’s where she wakes up but not where she passed out. In the scene where Chell blacks out, you can also hear the part of Love As A Construct that sounds like Cara Mia. Yeah. Yeah.
If you think that this cannot possibly get any gayer, you are wrong again, because then GLaDOS makes her final speech. Which is really just a love confession, let’s be honest.
Tumblr media
The “surge of emotion?” Do you mean love, GLaDOS? And the idea of GLaDOS considering Chell her best friend, despite everything these two have done to each other? The idea that GLaDOS, out of all people, forgives someone?
Except this isn’t even Chell’s final send-off. GLaDOS writes her an entire opera of turrets, that sing a literal love song. (Note what I said earlier about the use of the word “bambina”).
Tumblr media
It really can’t get any more obvious than that. “My (affectionate romantic term here), my dear, I adore you.” How. Is. That. Heterosexual. In. Any. Way.
So Chell goes to the surface, set free by GLaDOS (think of the saying “if you love something, set it free), and you think that’s the end. Until GLaDOS gives you a companion cube so you aren’t alone on the journey, and from the burn marks, you know it’s your first companion cube. Her original heart, her first gift to you, a piece of her that she wants you to carry with you to remind you that she does care about you after everything. It also gives the lyrics to Still Alive a much more genuine meaning.
Tumblr media
Portal 2 ends, and then the ending song, another GLaDOS number plays. Just like Still Alive, Want You Gone is structurally a break up song and very obviously about GLaDOS missing Chell and “counting on” (read: caring about/loving) Chell’s tendencies and quirks.
Tumblr media
She’s accepted Chell completely, and yet also given Chell the one thing she wants most. Only wanting Chell gone can mean GLaDOS not wanting Chell in her life anymore, but can also mean she wants to give Chell the freedom she’s wanted for so, so long. It’s the best thing she can give.
In the co-op campaign, GLaDOS also references still caring about Chell.
Tumblr media
And that’s the end of the Portal series. Except. Brace yourself. Despite the games being over, there is STILL more subtext somehow. It gets. Even gayer.
Exhibit C: Supplemental Evidence
Valve has made a lot of extra/cut content for the Portal series, and I’ll be looking at some of it below.
Tumblr media
This official valentine from Valve shows GLaDOS offering a romantic partner cake, which as we’ve established before, is very symbolic of GLaDOS’ feelings about and/or relationship with Chell.
There’s a lot of other concept art and official art that emphasizes their relationship too. See below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s also some cut GLaDOS lines that are even gayer than the source material and again, sound like confessions or references to a breakup:
Tumblr media
The idea of “discovering things about someone”... how much more obvious can it get?
The developers have even confirmed a lot of my commentary on Chell and GLaDOS’ relationship in The Final Hours Of Portal 2. See these quotes from the book/this post:
Tumblr media
The devs literally describe it as a romance. They use terms like “cheating,” they wanted to write a romantic duet, JoCo purposefully wrote the endings like love songs. It is literally, blatantly said by the creators of the game that their relationship is interpreted romantically. By the creators of the game.
And if Word of God confirmation isn’t enough for you, have a song written for a cut alternate ending by GLaDOS’ voice actress, Ellen McClain. The song is literally nothing but GLaDOS talking about caring about Chell, about not wanting her to die/leave GLaDOS alone, about wanting to bake a cake with Chell, about waiting for Chell to wake her up. It’s so genuinely sweet and sad, and really, really romantic in the most heartwrenching way possible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
JoCo also came back for the Portal levels in Lego Dimensions, writing one final breakup song for GLaDOS to sing about Chell. It comes off as GLaDOS not wanting to admit she misses Chell even though she obviously does, trying to replace their relationship but failing, and even explicitly forgiving Chell/wanting her to come back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, the “finally I understand,” as if only now GLaDOS understands just how deep her feelings for Chell are... What else can I say?
In Lego Dimensions, GLaDOS also outright rejects anyone who isn’t Chell.
Tumblr media
In Conclusion:
Why do I ship Chell and GLaDOS?
Well, ultimately, it doesn’t matter whether I ship them.
Because I think it’s glaringly obvious Portal does.
