Can I ask for Natasha x reader where one of them calls the other one by their real name and the other one freaks out because they usually call them by petnames? Thanks!
Of course! I always love fics based off this idea đ this is kind of angsty because I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff alright đ also ĐĐ°ĐťŃŃ is supposed to mean baby in Russian, but I honestly have no idea how accurate that is
Terms of Endearment (Natasha Romanoff x reader)
Warnings: mentions of insecurity/self depreciating thoughts, not really hurt/comfort but also kind of?? Idk
You and your girlfriend Natasha had always been fond of using petnames for each other, often more so than your actual names themselves. Whether it be honey, sweetheart, darling, or simply just babe, you never ran out of cutesy names to call each other. But as much as you loved hearing the never ending abundance of pet names roll off Natasha's tongue, what you didn't love was how often you got teased for it.Â
You knew the other members of the team didn't mean anything by it and would stop if they knew how much it upset you, but the problem was you didn't really have a good reason for feeling that way. It seemed silly just thinking about it, childish even. So you kept your mouth shut, laughing along at their meaningless jokes as you made yourself a promise to cut down on the cheesy nicknames.Â
You hoped Natasha wouldn't notice the lack endearing terms on your part, but she did, of course. She always noticed the small things nobody else picked up on. It came with the job description of being an assassin.
Although she'd noticed it, she couldn't understand why there was a sudden change in your behavior, especially when she knew how much you loved the petnames you had for each other.Â
Because of this, she cut down on the petnames, too, and only used them when you were alone, hoping maybe she could solve the problem that way, even if she didn't know what it was.
It all came it a head one day when you were cooking together. It was just the two of you, everyone else either busy or in another part of the Avengers base.Â
Natasha was standing by the stove, making some sort of soup. "ĐĐ°ĐťŃŃ, could you hand me the salt?" She asked after tasting it and realizing it needed something.Â
The way you tensed up at the name she used for you did not fly past her, and it caused her to let out a small sigh. "Are you okay? You haven't been using nearly as many petnames for me as you used to, and I've noticed whenever I use them you seem... upset. Even when we're alone."Â
You let out a sigh yourself, knowing it wouldn't do you any good to lie about it. "I... I was hoping you wouldn't notice." You began meekly, looking down.Â
Natasha had a slight frown on her face as she turned towards you fully. "And why is that?" Her tone was gentle, but firm. It was clear she wasn't going to let you leave without some sort of explanation.Â
"It- its not you. Or me. Its the others," you confess quietly. "I didn't really like the way they teased me whenever I called you honey or babe, so I stopped all together."Â
She nodded her head, the pieces suddenly falling into place. "Ah, so that's why. At first, I thought I'd done something to tick you off." She joked, it making her heart warm to hear the laugh that came from you after.Â
"No, it wasn't that, and even if it was, you know I could never stay mad at you." You said playfully, finally handing her the salt.Â
She took it from you and added some to the pot on the stove before speaking again. "I'll talk to everybody, and tell them to lay off on the teasing, that way you won't have to worry about it anymore."Â
You gave her a loving smile, your tone filled with gratitude. "Thanks, hon."Â
She smiled back at the petname before giving you a soft kiss. "Of course, darling. Anything for you."Â

I AM DEVASTED! JESSE! đđ (he's probably gonna see her soon but we ain't gonna talk about that) ELLIE AND JOEL đ joel and maria just lost another child and i can hear that one song going "i told you once, i can't do this again, do this again, oh." THE LAST OF US PART 2 SPOILERS
i am currently just putting that as like a blanket warning and then gonna do keep reading thingys so hopefully people who donât wanna see donât see!! ( THIS WAS BEFORE I WROTE⌠ALL THIS. )
omg yes shhh iâve only watched episode 1 of season 3 so far oopsies. i have so little time for mando AGH i wish i had more >:( but i also neglected sm homework last week oops so my own fault really
no because if JOEL was awake? and he watched that happen? i genuinely donât know what heâd do. thereâs two options, one of which we heard of after sarah died, and the other being he goes mad for revenge. (letâs pretend abby didnât use like. a fucking shotgun on his leg and it was recoverable, shhhhh)
TOMMY. heâd be so torn. i donât know what heâd do either!!! they would just be so fucking despondent. like what is even the point if r is gone? what are they meant to do now? and if he had to watch? if he watched, and wasnât able to do anything? can you imagine the pain heâd be in after locking eyes with r, wondering if r would ever forgive him for this? tommy would absolutely blame himself. would blame himself for letting reader on patrols at all, for helping abby, for trusting this group that they didnât know, for doing nothing when reader needed him to do something, anything, the most
you saw how tommy reacted in part 2 when abby threatened ellie, how he fucking yelled and screamed at ellie to leave. can you imagine how much he would yell and scream at abby to just leave reader alone, to just stop, please, donât do this to her, she didnât do anything
can you imagine how tommy would react if he found out why abby did it? how joel would react? how ellie would react?
lets think about this for a minute actually, because ellie would NEVER forgive joel. she wouldnât. because she already hated him for what he did at the hospital, she was just barely coming to forgive him for it, and now not only did he take that away from her, but his actions also led to reader being killed. joel would never ever forgive himself, but neither would ellie.
hell, if joel went to seattle for revenge, i donât think heâd be coming back no matter the outcome. it has to be said. what does he have left, anyway?
my dear, sweet maria. she would be so torn after her initial denial, because god does she want to avenge reader, she wants to tear them all apart for what they did to her, but then thereâs this baby who needs her. tommy would be long gone, by then, anyway. she couldnât orphan her child. but what about you?
and the blame sheâd have for joel, too, if she found out?
joel would be having the absolute WORST time.
your dialogue for mariaâs reaction is so so accurate too, and you can really see tommy just looking at her, saying her name, because thereâs nothing else he can say.
and when tommy and mariaâs son grows up, and heâs wondering why his dad left, and he doesnât understand because he canât remember reader. he doesnât remember her looking after him, only has the names on the chalkboard thatâs still set up on the mantle of the home he shares with his mother only. because maria wouldnât welcome tommy back after he left. couldnât. a part of her resents him for not saving r too, although sheâd never say it out loud.
i wanna talk about jesse more but this is already long iâm sorry HAHAH so i will move on to my favourite thing. SONGS!!!
as the world caves in â iâm an awful person for immediately thinking about how joelâs world litch rally caved in (via the golf club to râs headâŚ) OK BUT FOR REAL NOW. i love this song. it hurts so bad. for all of them, the world had already ended. theyâre living in post apocalyptic times for gods sake. but this⌠this is worse. this is their actual world falling apart before their very eyes.
i cant talk about hold on because i think i will actually break down in sobs and cries. but agreed. that song hurts so bad
you said youâd grow old with me â these lyrics hurt particularly bad if you relate them to jesse i think. and ellie actually. âwe had plans, we had visions, now i can't see aheadâ iâm crying and sobbing. theyâd both be so empty. they wouldnât know what to do with themselves. and theyâd remember so many things they forgot to tell reader :( âyou've got your peace now, but what about me?â SOBBIIIIINGGG. actually look at all of these lyrics because they all fit so well and they ALL hurt.
fourth of july â may i just also add âwhat could i have said to raise you from the dead?â because it makes me sad. and as you SHOULD bring this one back. it hurts. also the repeated âwhy do you cryâ hurts so bad because not only will all the characters be sobbing but also r didnât want to die :(
walk through hell â all of you go and look at EVERY single song lyric here. because ouch. like iâm in pain rn listening to this
remember me â âremember me though i have to say goodbyeâ yelling crying screaming sobbing. and also âremember me each time you hear a sad guitarâ joel coded joel coded joel coded. he never got to teach r how to play even though she wanted to learn (shhh) and that would haunt him forever i think. or however long he lived..
sorrow â OUCH. all of this just hurts and then you have this especially joel coded line âslowly, then all at once / a single loose thread / and it all comes undoneâ sobs he lost everything. also i think this song really fits with how like. lost and unsure everybody would be going forward like âi feel out of focus / or at least indisposedâ TBE MORE I LOOK AT THE LYRICS THE MORE I COULD PICK OUT THAT FIT SO WELL. howl you know what youâre doing. i should be mad. i should be.
touch â âall i want is to flip a switch / before something breaks that cannot be fixedâ need i say more? no. i neednât. but i will. âpredicting god as best he can / but god i wanna feel againâ
itâs quiet uptown â howl im gonna need you to stop using hamilton against me please and thank you. but this song is maria coded. THERE I SAID IT. itâs maria coded! âyou hold your child as tight as you can / and push away the unimaginableâ her with her son after tommy leaves too. sheâs so stuck on the fact that she couldnât protect r that she worries she wonât be able to protect him either. she canât lose a third child. AND MORE IMPORTANTLY. âi spend hours in the garden / i walk alone to the storeâ TO READERâS STORE!!! TO THE POTTERY SHOP!!! imagine the pain maria would feel when all the flowers outside have wilted away, unreplaced, and then she has to throw them away. sheâs alone. sheâs so alone. iâm in pain. with everybody off avenging r whoâs their to mourn her? everybody forgets about your shop soon enough, except for her. she cleans the shop, sends her son to be looked after by someone she trusts, only for a little while. she canât manage long. AND THEN THE SECOND PART IS TOMMY CODED. âif i could spare [her] life / if i could trade [her] life for mine / [sheâd] be standing here right now / and you would smile and that would be enoughâ âŚâŚ iâm going into hibernation actually. howl HOW COULD YOU.

heres just a quick silly idea: yelena walks past a meeting room where the original 6 avengers are having a meeting. tony and steve are arguing AGAIN and nat gets fed up and starts scolding everyone. they all back down and shrink like scared puppies and yelena bursts out laughing at how they're all supposed to be these big strong superheroes but her soft older sister can make them all cry with just a couple wordsđ. nat is still mad though and starts going off on yelena about slacking off and "shouldn't you be cleaning up that laundry all over the house?"
you can end this however i just thought it'd be a funny interactionđđ
Thanks for this request! I combined this with another similar idea I got for these guys. I didn't realize how much I had to say on Natasha's behalf until I wrote this. đđ Enjoy!
Word Count: 3,076
Natasha Romanoff was a patient person. She had to be, given her upbringing as a trained spy. But the 5 bickering men in front of her had a special way of getting on her absolute last nerve. She loved them all dearly. But they currently had her considering a permanent career change.
The original 6 Avengers were all in the main common room at the compound. Something that rarely happened since Thor was often off world and Clint with his family. But Natasha thinks itâs a good thing the 6 of them being together was so rare considering they were just about to tear each other apart after less than an hour together.
They were a great team. Thereâs no denying that. Other than Yelena, thereâs no one that Nat trusted more in battle. No one she instinctively understood more in a life-or-death situation. After all, they did spend over a decade posing together.
They were also all great friends socially. Natasha had a unique connection with each of them. But when the banter and battles died down and the Avengers actually had to agree on something serious (see Sokovia Accords), it was just a complete disaster. There simply wasnât a room big enough to hold all their egos. Specifically, Steve and Tonyâs. Add Thor to the mix and there was just no chance of agreement.
It was times like these where Natasha missed the peace and quiet of her other team. The team she led during the worst 5 years of her life. Sheâd never want to go back to those times, but at least that team didnât fight every 2 seconds. And at least it had another friendly female face. Natasha often wonders how she survived as the only female Avenger for far too many years.
The six of them were trying to discuss a plan for their next global initiative. Naturally, Tony wanted to make a huge scene while Steve wanted it to be ridiculously patriotic. Thor wanted to bring all the Asgardians to earth for a huge party. Bruce didnât want to do it at all. And Clint, well, his first words when he walked in were that he didnât want to be at the compound, never mind an initiative.
Natasha sighs, putting her feet up on the couch as the boys stand around bickering. She rubs at her temples, feeling a migraine coming on. She then feels the familiar buzz of her phone.
Are you alive Poser?
Natasha grins, typing out her reply. No, I think Iâve died and this is my hell.
Hmmm but would you get texts from your favorite sister in hell?
Youâre my only sister Lena.
Natasha quickly types another message. But youâre right, if youâre here, it canât be hell.
Awww what a softie :)
Shut up.
Admit it Poser. Youâve gone soft.
Iâm leaving.
Please. We both know texting me is far better than listening to all that testosterone.
Whatever.
đŠ
Natasha rolls her eyes at the emoji that Yelena used far too much. Youâre lucky youâre cute.
Iâm not cute!Â
Have you seen your baby cheeks and nose Rooskaya? Youâre adorable.
Shut up Poser!
Never.
Natasha puts her phone down and sighs as she hears the men continue to argue.
âTony for the last time! The council will never agree to that plan!â Steve huffs in anger.
âSince when do you listen to councils?â Tony refers to the Sokovia Accords debacle.
âI still donât understand why we canât have it in New York. People have already seen the portal Loki opened there. Asgard can just come for a quick visit. It will be an even more unifying event.â Thor chimes in, twirling Mjolnir.
âThe people of New York have already been traumatized enough!â Bruce interjects.
âAsgard isnât traumatizing!â
âThor, there isnât enough space in New York for all of freaking Asgard.â Clint interjects, muttering under his breath how he could be golfing right now instead of at this meeting.
âYou humans are so tiny.â Thor mumbles.
âItâs okay Point Break, at least youâre trying to do something actually unifying and not incredibly boring like Star-Spangled Man with No Plan over here.â Tony pats Thor on the shoulder, looking annoyed back at Steve.
âAt least Iâm trying to protect the event from being absolute chaos!â Steve grinds out angrily.
âWhatâs wrong with a little chaos?â
âTony we have literally destroyed at least 5 cities and 2 whole countries with our chaos.â Steve bites back, thinking through all the destruction they had caused.
âYou didnât seem to care all that much when they initiated the Sokovia Accords about it!â
âYou only cared about those Accords because you couldnât live with your guilt!â Steve yells. Natasha winces, knowing this was going nowhere good.
âOh you want to talk about guilt? Letâs talk about your dear friend Mr. Barnes that is currently living under my roof!â
Steve opens his mouth to retort and the two men look like theyâre about to have a second civil war in the Avengersâ living room when Natasha jumps up.
âOkay enough!â
The Black Widow pushes the men apart so forcefully that they both stumble back, looking slightly shocked.
âI have had it with all of you!â She points at the 5 men who all stare at her in legitimate fear.
Clint frowns, glancing at Bruce and Thor, âWhat? We didnât do anything, thatâs not fair!â
Natasha glares at her best friend and he falls silent. âClint, if you really donât want to be here, then leave. Honestly, Iâm sure the kids would love to see you. But if youâre here, at least try to contribute helpful commentary!â Clint looks down at that, fiddling with his shirt.
The redhead just turns to Bruce though. âBruce, I know you hate all of this and going to an event where you have to be out in the open. I get it. But no one is forcing you to go anywhere, really. And if you want to go, then speak up about where you want the event to be that is best for you!â The scientist rubs the back of his neck sheepishly and nods.
Natasha turns to Thor whose eyes widen, not being used to seeing the Black Widow so angry. âThor, come on. You know bringing all of Asgard here is a bad idea. Sure, Thanos and his army came and there was that whole battle of New York, but those were contained events. Bringing an entire planet to visit earth for a giant party is just not something we are ready for.â Thor pouts a bit but nods.
The Black Widow turns to Steve and Tony last and Tony tries to interject, âLook Romanoff we-â
âNo! Youâve spent the last 60 minutes talking Stark. Itâs my turn.â She steps closer to the two so-called Avengers leaders, fire in her eyes.
âYou two, are on my last nerve. I have put up with your antics for the last 15 years of my life, but that just means that I have 15 years of things to be annoyed about! I canât remember the last meeting we had that you guys didnât fight! Iâm so done with it! Weâve all been through hell together, and yet the one constant that remains is that you two canât agree!â
Natasha takes a breath, but sheâs just getting going.
âI have followed you guys for over a decade. Helped clean up both of your messes.â She refers to her time at Stark Industries and helping Steve chase The Winter Solider around. âAnd I have no regrets about that. The 6 of us are a great team. But for all the credit you guys get for forming this team and saving the world, let me remind you, that it was you two that tore it apart. You two that got half of us sent to prison. You two that made me have to go into hiding for 2 years when I literally tried to help both of you see eye to eye!â
The Black Widow pauses one more time as she feels the words that she had been thinking for so long on the tip of her tongue. She supposes she needs to get them off her chest.
âAnd if you guys hadnât spent 2 years acting like a scorned divorced couple, then maybe we would have still been a team when a certain titan came to our planet. And maybe, just maybeâŚ.we wouldnât have lost everything for 5 freaking years.â
The room is deathly silent as the words hang in the air.
Natasha canât bring herself to feel guilty about them though. It was something she had wondered every single day during those 5 years. She tried not to hold onto things anymore. Especially now that Yelena was with her again, she had no need to hold a grudge. But it wasnât a grudge really. It was more like she wanted these two men, some of the most important people in her life, to finally see the point.
That the biggest threat to the Avengers is always themselves.
Tony looks at the ground, looking more humbled than Natasha had ever seen him. Steve just gazes at Nat guiltily.
âNat I-â
âI donât want apologies Rogers. JustâŚdo better. I know you guys can.â
All the men nod at her and she lets a deep breath, feeling a weight lifted off her shoulders at finally getting her point across.
âAnd thatâs why we had her run the Avengers while all yâall were running away.â A new voice chimes in.
All of them turn quickly, not having heard anyone else come in while Natasha was airing her grievances. They see Rhodey standing there, smirking. Others like Wanda and Sam are there as well. But Natasha focuses on the blonde behind Rhodey who is looking at her with wide eyes.
Natasha winces slightly, not really wanting her baby sister to have heard all that. But Yelena just looks at her with so much pride and adoration that the redhead feels her heart swell.
âHow long have you guys been standing there?â Tony asks.
âLong enough to know you all just got your assess handed to you by the Black Widow and she didnât even throw a single punch.â Sam smirks.
Steve shakes his head, figuring thereâs no use in denying anything or rehashing it. He sits down on the couch and others follow, sitting around the common room. Yelena comes over and quickly sits next to her sister, grinning up at Natasha who shifts uncomfortably.
âWhat?â Natasha asks.
âYou never told me you led the Avengers while I was gone!â
Natasha blushes, âIt was hardly leading. And we certainly werenât the Avengers. It was more just me staring at emails and holograms, telling people what to do and trying not to cry.â
âPlease. Sheâs being modest. Nat kept us all together.â Rhodey chimes in next to Yelena. âI mean, she helped the entire universe, even Carol reported to her. And she read messages from the raccoon.â
Yelena grins in surprise, âWhat? You have to tell me about that Sestra! Why doesnât anyone talk about this?â
The blonde looks around at the other original Avengers who all shift nervously. Natasha clears her throat, feeling awkward. âYelena, itâs just not a time any of us like to remember.â
Yelena softens slightly at that, but turns back to Rhodey. âSo who else was on this team?â
Rhodey glances hesitantly around the room before answering. âMe. Rocket. Carol. Nebula. Okoye and some other Wakandans.â
Yelenaâs eyes widen, âThatâs it?!â
Natasha winces.
The blonde gets up and points at the others in the room that hadnât been dusted. âYou five, her so called friends, left my sister alone??â
âYelena-â Natasha tries to pull her sister back down but the blonde shakes her off, glaring at the others.
âNo, what is all of your problems!?â Yelena glares at them. âAfter all my sister did for each of you?â
The other 5 glance guiltily at each other. Getting reamed out by one black widow was enough, but two in one day was something that none of them ever wished to experience again.
âI canât believe all of you!â She curses at them in Russian before turning wildly back to her sister, âTasha how is this the first time Iâve seen you yell at them?â
1]â Natasha answers genuinely, hoping to calm the blonde down.
Yelena softens slightly at that but still turns back to glare at the others who continue to avoid her gaze.
Clint finally speaks up, âYelena, we made mistakes. I made mistakes.â He looks at Natasha guiltily as he thinks of his time as Ronin, but the spy just shakes her head. âIâm sorry.â
The other men nod in agreement and Yelena huffs, annoyed that was the only apology she was going to get her sister.
Steve pipes up though, âYelena, they were in good hands though. Natasha is a great leader. She was their rock. She kept everything together. And the rest of usâŚwell, youâve seen our leadership skills sometimes leave a lot to be desired.â He glances at Tony who doesnât disagree, and Yelena supposes that speaks volumes for the billionaire.
âFine.â The blonde huffs. âBut it sounds like you all owe my sister a lifetime of favors.â Thor raises his hammer to that and the others nod.
âAlso, itâs ridiculous that you guys are called earthâs mightiest heroes when you all looked ready to shit your pants when my sister was yelling at you.â Yelena throws one last glare at the men, making it clear how displeased she still was at them.
âYeah, who were you guys saying the most powerful Avenger was again?â Sam looks smugly between Thor and Bruce who were constantly having that argument. Thor frowns deeply while Bruce just shrugs not caring if he conceded that title to The Black Widow.
Natasha rolls her eyes, feeling embarrassed by the whole situation. She grabs Yelena again and this time the blonde lets her pull her back down.
âEnough talk about me. I hate it.â Natasha addresses the room.
Yelena grins, âThatâs why youâre such a great leader!â
âTrue.â Clint agrees.
Natasha huffs, biting back a blush as she looks over at her sister with mock irritation. âDonât you have cleaning that I asked you to do or something?â
âBah, since when do I clean? And since when do I listen to you? Unlike these ridiculous scaredy cats, Iâm not afraid of you.â Yelena grins back at Natasha as the rest of the room falls into their own conversations.
Natasha rolls her eyes. âYou know, youâre wrong. What makes me such a great leader is my endless patience for peopleâs ridiculous antics like yours.â She reaches out and musses her sisterâs blonde hair.
Yelena swats at her. âPlease, like you could live without my antics.â
Natasha sobers, thinking back to the 5 years that had been referenced far too much that day. She massages Yelenaâs scalp with her fingers and presses a kiss to her forehead. The blonde just basks in the affection.
âYouâre right little one, I couldnât.â
Yelena grins and is about to reply when Tony clears his throat, causing both sisters to roll their eyes but turn to him.
âSteve and I have agreed on something.â
Natasha raises an eyebrow.
âMust be the end of the world.â Sam chimes in.
âMore like trying to prevent that from happening again.â Steve responds.
Tony nods, looking at Natasha. âWeâre appointing you leader of the Avengers, Romanoff.â All eyes turn to the Black Widow.
Natasha just stares at them with a mix of bewilderment, amusement, and slight annoyance. These guys, bless their hearts, still didnât get it. Natasha didnât want that. She certainly didnât want to do all the press and speeches that Tony and Steve did. Didnât want even more publicity than she already had. Didnât want the power. The scrutiny. The responsibility. She didnât have the need to be the leader like Steve and Tony did. Sheâd much rather just continue as she has been, operating in the background and getting things done that her fellow Avengers never could while still having time for her favorite person.
Besides, Natasha Romanoff was the greatest spy on the planet. She could get her way from the other Avengers whenever she really wanted without them even knowing it. Today was a prime example of that. But no way did she want or need the title of leader bestowed on her.
Natasha glances at her sister who looks at her with a slightly unreadable expression, wondering what the redhead would say. Though Yelena knew for a fact Natasha could lead the Avengers far better than anyone else, she selfishly didnât want her sister to spend even more time dedicated to the initiative than she already did.
The Black Widow smirks her signature smirks and leans back smugly. Figuring sheâd have time to officially decline the ridiculous title later.
âPoor boys, donât even realize youâve been following me the last 15 years already.â
The other five pause at that, thinking through the statement. Bruce thinks back to how Natasha was the one that recruited him to be an Avenger. Clint remembers how The Black Widow killed the Ronin. Thor recalls how the redhead got his brother to spill his secrets in less than 5 minutes when Thor never could. Steve remembers Nat shooting TâChalla over his shoulder, knowing it had to be done before the entire team tore itself apart. Tony remembers his introduction to The Black Widow where she played the best triple imposter heâs ever seen, one that saved his life multiple times in the span of a few days. They all remember Natashaâs ultimate sacrifice on Vormir, and how they truly did feel lost and leaderless when Clint came back alone.
Yelena smirks at the looks on the menâs faces. âI think you broke them.â
Natasha rolls her eyes, âNah, theyâll be back to their usual annoying selves in no time, trust me.â
But she smiles meaningfully at the other five men across from her as they all share a moment of silent understanding and bonding that only the 6 of them would be able to comprehend.
The Avengers was a complicated mess. But they were her mess.
