i think i have got to the bottom of the german mystery which is that i think this person's phd supervisor is a german-speaker and most of their work on this specific area was done during their phd so maybe those were the things they were recommended to cite? and therefore they are inflicting this on me?

Getting back into BNHA (and thus the fandom) has reminded me exactly people always say the fandom is bad. Which I understand, I get it. While I personally think you should never let a community cloud your enjoyment of the source material, the sheer size makes the intensity and negative aspects of the fandom look all the more... Problematic? Overbearing?
Also, might just be a me thing, but the BNHA fandom has a really weird way of looking at everything in the series as black and white. It's really odd and kind of.. Irritating, almost as if people can't really think for themselves or follow the herd.. When the foundation of the last few arcs in BNHA have been placed on more nuanced and complex issues, especially regarding superhuman society and villains.

You know, I haven’t fully wrapped my head around how I’m going to incorporate it, but I had a great idea for this grant proposal that’s making me very excited
Because I think. finally. I will be able to justify testing arabic-speaking children. I will get to find out what kinds of errors THEY make learning my arabiclike made-up language.
And plus I’m realizing that I like portland more than eugene, and oops, the two Islamic schools and the one Arabic-medium school are all in the portland area oh no I will have to spend so much time in portland if I get this grant oh well
…plus I just really want to be able to stay in one place for three more years, and let scone live in Oregon like he’s really wanted to for YEARS.
I love arabic and I love my pastry and I love how kids do language. I am very excited about this part of the project and I just. The likelihood of it happening is vanishingly low. But it’s more likely to get this grant than getting a TT job. So.
#a ~10% hit rate for grants sucks yes; but compared to the ~0.5% hit rate I’ve had for prof jobs…#also new PI maybe you can support me for a year like you suggested you might be able to in a lab manager-cum-postdoc kind of role#that would be great. I would do that too.#I will happily continue leaning on my network to keep me in academia#as full of toxic bullshit as it is. sigh.#it hurts to feel like I’m so full of promise and so good at what I do and for some reason everything is just arbitrary#maybe I get to do this study; maybe I get to HAVE A JOB#like even working with this PI; everyone before has been all ‘mmm idk that doesn’t sound like a good use of resources’#and so I was like oh okay this is never gonna happen that’s fine#but I’m talking to her one day (because when you get the chance to chat with the dept head you should!)#and she’s like ‘but wait why would it be not a good use of resources? I think this is potentially an interesting idea#so write me up a proposal and we’ll see if we can flesh it out some more!’#so even the answer of ‘sure!’ to ‘maybe I can do this study… maybe’ I’d foreign and strange#same thing for this hockey concussion etc stuff#like I say ‘this is my INCREDIBLE pie in the sky idea; maybe someday#…but seems unlikely’#and my current PI goes no yeah wait here are some things I’ve thought about in that direction#…and I happen to live next to retired NHL players… but it would be very weird of me to ask them so can’t do that right now; but future!!#and so I’m just walking around UO going ‘wait I really can just. do things? people are interested in my ideas?’#(please remember that at a formative time in my research upbringing my advisor called me boring and also that he might not pass me#and like. you get rejected from research jobs and TT jobs and grants and everything#so it’s no WONDER I’m like ‘ah yes my ideas are stupid and boring and why would anyone else be interested in them!’ like any academic is)#anyway it’s amazing how little we as academics ask for#and still get told lol no that’s very extravagant of you#because it’s supposed to be a ~vocation~ and a ~calling~ so we should live like monks#but you know what monks are actually respected members of society and have food and shelter and care provided to them#so yeah if you want me to be a monk of linguistics then you need to fucking treat me like one

WIBTA if I restart an argument with a friend?
🌊⚓ <- so I can search for it.
So, a while ago, a friend was over and we talked. She is from South Germany while I am from North Germany, where we are both living (this'll be important in a sec).
I don't really remember why we were talking about the topic, but we started talking about regional dialects and sayings and then she called Low German* a dialect. Which tldr: big no-no. But I don't think she was being malicious, she just didn't know about the topic at all.
So naturally I explained: "You absolutely cannot call Low German a dialect to peoples faces around here. People will take offense to it. I don't really, because I consider the difference between dialect and language is arbitrary to begin with. But you will provoke incredibly unkind reactions from other people."
Her response was "Yeah but like. Doesn't everyone think their own dialect should be a language."
And... Idk why that one hurt but it did. It just felt incredibly dismissive. And I didn't really know how to respond other than "but this is the one case where it is true" which felt weird so I just. Didn't. We kinda moved on to other topics. But in hindsight, I really wish I hadn't?
Because I wish I had explained it in depth to her so she understands why what she said is considered unacceptable. But also for her own sake, because she will piss people off if she says the same thing to other people. And honestly for my sake so I can make peace with the conversation.
So I'm considering either finding a way to restart the argument/ conversation when we are together or go the cowardly route and send her a couple screenshots explaining the topic. But I also feel like restarting a fight we never really had and really doesn't matter is kind of a dick move.
Additionally I tend to be a person that corrects people when they are wrong and starts discussion way too much. Because in my family academic debates are a love language.** So I tend to reaaaaaally overestimate the amount of debating/ arguing people are comfortable with. They tend to perceive me as being upset with them while I am just having fun hashing out a topic from different angles.
So Tumblr. WIBTA?
Footnotes
* Low German is the regional language of North Germany. The definition of North Germany is actually pretty much "wherever they are speaking Low German". There is some controversy if Low German is a dialect or a language. Which like... People often describe it as closer to Dutch and English than Standard German, it's a recognised language in every state it is spoken in, it is recognized as a regional language in the fucking European Union WHY is it still controversial.
It is also very much an endangered language because in the past decades especially it has been looked down on as being "lower class". No that's not where the name comes from, low german is spoken where the terrain is flat/ low and high/ upper german is spoken where the mountains are. This attitude towards Low German is shifting a lot recently but it is entirely possible it's too late to prevent it from dying out.
** I felt like this part needed some clarification too. I can't count how many dinners in my childhood were spent eating while getting into the meat of whatever topic caught our attention. Politics or science or more spiritual stuff. Ask questions about things we were wondering about. Absolutely tear into each other when we had opposing positions, but concede when we were convinced. Oftentimes I'd get up to grab pen and paper, or demonstrate orbital dynamics with the jam container, a bowl and my plate, or use the butter as an impromptu drawing board.
But that doesn't mean we were fighting in the normal sense even if someone got upset occasionally. It was really just communicating with one another. It was connecting. Exercising our debate skills. Play-fighting but make it academia. It was genuinely fun to us and still is. An alternative outlet for sibling rivalry. There is no need to fight over the TV remote when you can just reason it out together.
So yeah. That's how academic debates can be a love language (and simultaneously absolutely destroy your conception of what is considered arguing).

Can we pretty please get some fluff Dottore content 🛐
HELL YEAH YOU CAN!! i’m always down to write dottore stuff he is my babygirl. yesterday my bestie and i were talking about how we just want dottore to be our househusband lmao
Tumblr media
okay so i’m writing this based on the theory that dottore is zandik, the academia student who got expelled for accidentally killing one his peers. if you don’t know that theory i made a youtube video about it lol always be plugging!
so like. i’m asking you to suspend ur disbelief and pretend that dottore isn’t 100% evil for a second (yes i know i’m delusional for saying that idc i love him)
dottore seems like he has an um… obsessive personality… aka he would be completely enamored with his s/o almost to a fault but that’s okay. you probably don’t care if you love dottore lmao
so i can totally see his s/o basically consuming his thoughts, he probably brags about you to his subordinates and the other harbingers all the time. (they’re honestly sick of it at this point but if any of them tell him that he’s too obsessed with you he’ll human experiment on them lol)
his love language is physical touch there i said it!!!!! he loves cuddling with you so bad, he likes it when you sit in his lap and rest your head against his shoulder while his arms are around your waist
head in hands i love him
okay so you know how dottore wants to “improve” and “enhance” humans with his weird robo science or whatever? not you he thinks you’re perfect, you are the apex of the human condition and he will tell you every chance he gets
idk why but dottore gives me honk shoo snoring vibes. completely unrelated but i thought i should share with the class
dottore’s job as a harbinger is very demanding of his time so when you can’t be with the real one he just sends one of his clones to you!! i like the idea of them having a shared consciousness (or something similar?) so it’s really just like he never left
THAT BEING SAID
when the real dottore comes back say bye to the clone because the real one wants you to himself
play with his hair. he loves it so much (i’m projecting bc his hair is so gender)
omg the overwhelming urge to steal his big dumb coat and wear it without telling him!!!!!! at first he’d be pissed like “wtf where my clothes 🧍‍♀️” but when he sees that you have it he’s not mad anymore lol. he is more than willing to share with his s/o and also it makes him feel like you belong to him
and now for my final special attack: dottore taking off his mask in front of you for the first time
personally i hc there’s some really bad scars/burns under there that he’s very insecure about so he never really takes off his mask
it’ll probably take a while for him to feel comfy showing you what he really looks like because he’s afraid that you won’t want him anymore when you see :(
kissing his scars while he tries not to cry happy tears bc you still love him (he’s failing, he cried for sure)
dottore feels very lucky to have you!! after all of the atrocities he’s committed (pre removal of guilt from his arsenal of emotions i guess) he thought he didn’t deserve love but you’re so good to him and he cherishes you more than you’ll ever know
anyway. stan dottore i guess

Okay another actual vent post, like no hydrothermal this time sorry
Idk maybe I'm just stupid but like. How do y'all do it. Every time I I have a bureaucracy problem it's always like "oh yeah you just gotta email Person McPerson at the X desk between 5pm and 4am on the second Tuesday of the month" like it's knowledge that everyone figured out the moment they set foot on campus. And it's weird bc like, I hope this doesn't come across as arrogant, but I've never gotten imposter syndrome from like. My actual science work or knowledge. Even when I'm out of my depth I know I can learn, and people seem to appreciate what I contribute. But this DOES give me imposter syndrome bc I know it's baked into academia, and maybe I just shouldn't be here. But at the same time I'm more comfortable with the pace of research than I ever was or could be at a "normal" job so idk. I just feel like I'm smarter than other people for a small collection of things and then a completely incompetent moron for things that come so easily to others. Just rambling too much sorry

@limbsandheads this entire blog has actually been an elaborate operation to convert as many people to vannyism as possible via the "shite posts" of the youth. Glad to see it's working
jokes aside: HEHEHEHE THANK YOU... yeah a big part of getting comfy in my niche here has been getting comfortable enough to actually, like, POST my anaylsis /because/ of the complete lack of it elsewhere. being counterculture can be a tough place to be in! the amount of times i've had to hold myself back or scrap something bc i'm unsure if i'm gonna get dragged into explaining, idk, what a fucking metaphor is or some shit... ugh. awful do not recommend. i'm not sure what's worse: people who refuse to believe that parallels exist, or people that understand that parallels exist but only as fodder for theories (which are, as we all know, the most important part of any satisfying story)
i think people in general have a hostile response to any kind of serious analysis precisely because it's serious; it feels like... there's this pervasive sense -- particularly when you talk to the people that i'm thinking of here -- that academia is somehow Other or (views itself as) Superior in some way, thus making the act of engaging in it about posturing rather than, well. study. people have a very strict idea of what art is, even if only subconsciously, and react accordingly when the Other comes in to try and take away their favourite toy. games are fun; analysis is not. why can't you just let people enjoy things, you're just doing this for attention, etc etc etc. it's a position borne of ignorance, one that assumes that you can separate art from play at all -- and one that finds itself most vulnerable to exploitation. it's fundamentally reactionary rhetoric, is what i'm getting at here, and why i can so easily swap out stupid fnaf jargon for a conservative strawman and still get the point across.
anti-intellectualism sucks because it sucks all the joy out of art. like, for all i joke about being fuelled by spite, you'll find that even my most virulent snark comes from a place of love. i talk about this shit because i love it; because i love the actors and writers and art directors and character designers and production teams and editors, every single one of them, and there's nothing quite as intimate as a dissection. to peel back the layers of a piece of art is to ultimately shine a light on the things beneath -- all the blood and bone and gristle, where the artist has been pressed between the pages... to look at someone and know them, to sit and think about what they wanted to say -- what is that, if not love?
you aren't born knowing how to say "i love you". it's something you've gotta learn. and this is what we in the biz call a """METAPHOR""",
also, while we're here: fun fact! i actually write a lot of my stuff off-the-cuff, which is why the flow is often weird/words are missing/it might take a wild left turn away from the original subject? (like i'm low-key doing rn!) it's something that makes me cringe, but also fuels my desire to get around to writing a proper essay abt this terrible franchise eventually... i've got pages of bullet points & notes scattered around the place (& hundreds of discord messages to pull from, oh god), it's just the practical part of it that makes me want to crawl back into my skin. until then you are stuck with the Crazed Ravings (Autism Flavour), (un)fortunately (depending on how you look at it)

The Chain with My Hero Academia Quirks
Quirks and info about them are under the cut
Time - Mortal Essence
Mortal Essence was something I came up with for my Percy Jackson OC but then I thought of it and was like HELL YEAH so it’s Time’s now
Basically, in my head, god’s have their essence that mortals can’t see or they will die instantly. Like with Semele, Dionysus’s mother, she saw Zeus’s essence and disintegrated immediately
In contrast, a mortal essence is an essence that can make the user have powers on par with gods, or turn the user into a god temporarily
We all know about Fierce right? You know, the war god that can temporarily take over Time’s body? Well, Fierce is Time’s quirk.
Sky - Goddess Guardian
Ok…so maybe he’s the goddess’s guardian but shhhhhhh
This quirk was inspired by Demon Snow, an ability from Bungo Stray Dogs
Basically, Sky has a goddess or an avatar of a goddess who protects him and can and will kill you should he ask her to
He’s best friends with her, don’t worry
I mean, Sun was also in the academy guys, she can and will fuck you up should you try and hurt Sky
That being said, Sun is and isn’t Sky’s quirk
I might say that it’s Farore that’s his guardian instead of Hylia because his girlfriend is Hylia(technically)
Twilight - He technically already sort of has one(Wolfie) but Essence
If you watched My Hero or just know Todoroki’s backstory or you watched Heroes Rising you’ll know that quirks are hereditary
Twilight has sort of inherited Time’s quirk
BUT
He sort of has Malon’s quirk too
Malon has a quirk that allows her to command any animal to do something that she speaks to
But anyway, Twilight’s essence quirk allows him to turn into anything that he has DNA to as long as it is in his system
Plot twist
He can only turn into animals which makes things a little weird for him sometimes
His favorite for in his wolf form(obviously) he enjoys growling at people and he thinks that he looks cool
Warriors - Frost Blades
Warriors is just an ice user. I can sense it in my bones
Frost blades are mostly what they sound like
Blades made out of frost. If he’s mad enough and his quirk loses control, they can be solid ice
How the blades work is, no one but him can hold the blades, without the coldness of his hands, the frost will disperse
Knowing the Captain, he mostly doesn’t rely on them. He’s more like Aizawa, he uses his quirk when he feels like he must
Warriors quirk is mostly lackluster, but trust that he can still very much beat your ass without it
Wild - also technically already has one(bullet time) but Spiritual Connection
Spiritual Connection was thought of because of his whole thing with the other Champions
Wild can see and talk to spirits. He can also use their quirks, if they allow him to take it
Spirits love being around him, and he has probably been suspected of having AFO at some point, but he just has a lot of dead friends
Because why have living friends, when you can have dead ones? :3
Wind - Wind Bombs
Wind deserves bomb rights.
Wind bombs are small cyclones that can and will explode, should Wind make them
He probably blew a kid up once when his quirk first spawned
Parents hate him, but he loves his quirk
It’s a nice warning when you get hit was a wind bomb in your chest (:
Hyrule - Cloned
Hyrule can clone only inanimate objects
You know, like how his sword sort of has a shadow? I don’t feel like getting a picture
But when his enemy gets hit with his sword’s silhouette? Yeah, that’s his quirk
He clones money a fuck too
He’s a rebellious teen probably…idk
Legend - Alteration
Inspired by the whole painting shenanigans in albw
But anyway, Legend’s body is able to adapt to any environment
If he needs to keep up with a long legged person, boom, he has longer legs than they have now and now they have to jog to keep up
Need to get your phone that fell in the crack of your bed? Boom. Thin arm
Need to slip into a crack in a wall to kill that roach, bam, small and skinny
My man is more fantastic than Mr. Fantastic
Four - Mental manipulation
You know how the colors have their respective emotions…but not really…I think
Like Blue is usually characterized as angry a lot
Like that
So with Mental Manipulation, Four can alter someone’s emotions or thoughts
It’s that simple
You’re feeling depressed today? Nah. Have some choccy milk and be immensely happy.
Your significant other is making you nervous with how much you want to kiss them? Nah, Four got you, have some more confidence
You think you’re a sane human being? Nah. Go commit arson
So…yeah
There it is
The Chain and their My Hero Academia quirks
Thank you for reading :3
If you have different ideas for their quirks, I’d love to here them in the comments
Anyway, thanks for reading

idk man i just work here
listening
not another rockstar, maisie peters. spotify
this is a little poppier than i generally prefer-- the first knee-jerk comparison i can make for the vocals is taylor swift, esp in the first verse? luckily for everyone, i was white-knuckling it down the katy freeway (26 lanes. never again) and did not have the extra concentration necessary to skip it on whatever autogenerated dance playlist spotify spat out for me. as a fellow woman with a Type, i must tip my hat to ms peters.
Hmm, funny I could pick 'em in a line up, line up Pretty certain I could do it with my eyes shut, eyes shut A little self-obsessive and I sign up, sign up Where's the pen? Where's the line?
@pasta-pardner has made a gorgeously lush electronic/indie pop cowboy playlist. my very favorite song (so far, still have it on loop) is Horsie by Twilight Circus Dub Sound System. it sounds like the opening theme to Samurai Champloo. it ripples and grooves. it lives somewhere between rock and reggae. the whole album is incredible music to hang out to.

Tumblr media
retractionwatch (my beloved) linked out to datacolada.org in a recent article and my ears perked up. data colada gets REAL deep into the investigative reporting of specific papers, including some fascinating excel sleuthing. they use CalcChain!!! i thought i was the only one who used CalcChain!!!
CalcChain tells Excel in which order to carry out the calculations in the spreadsheet. It tells Excel something like "First solve the formula in cell A1, then the one in A2, then B1, etc." CalcChain is short for 'calculation chain'.
one of my worst traits as a person is that i looooooooove an academic trainwreck. i love watching academia eat itself. i love watching people get caught for sloppy shit like "excel file sorted REAL weird, pointing to tampering with individual data points"

ive been playing genshi/n impact like it's my job. having a lot of thoughts about crunch, and content, and player expectations vs shareholder expectations and Line Go Up and if AAA free-to-play video games are at all ethical to play for anyone ever, but hey! look at this snarky catgirl!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also lol. lmao. this is a game for children. we are all aware of the restrictions and limitations placed upon games for children in the chinese and american markets so yeah the answer is going to be yes, every time

making
lately i have been going to my best friend's house after work (what an unimaginable sentence a month ago) and hanging out and watching whatever toddler shows are on tv while we shoot the shit and i knit. there's another half-repeat on the baby blanket for the baby who has just turned four months old, but it's in the car and the night is dark and full of mosquitoes.
i literally cannot do any life shit, even most doctor's appointments, until i have a real physical stable address so all i am really doing is knitting and playing genshi/n and opening and closing my email like the fridge. i have one security deposit back from the old mass apt plus one more paycheck (but, crucially, not the nearly $2k from the roach apt and we are rapidly approaching lawsuit time) so the cat and i are a little bit more stable/able to put down a security deposit on something else the minute it comes along. this would not have been possible without the incredible generosity of readers like you during that very bad first week here. thank you. i want to do some sort of thank you...stream? liveblog? series of posts about something? but i'm not sure what yet. stay tuned. tell me your thoughts. what would you like to see?

god i hate the weird superiority complex people get over reading. i have such a complicated history w reading bc i couldnt read until 4th grade (i could read and say the words but i Literally could not process them in any capacity) and from then until like 8th grade i would read anywhere from 10-15 books a year. and then it stopped clicking for me again and i progeessively got worse and worse. and like ive gotten better over the last year or 2 but i still cant read outloud without stumbling over my words and stuttering really bad or skipping things and its So frustrating. and for a long time suddenly losing my ability to read cohesively made me Hate reading because i used to be so good at it. idk its just frustrating and dishearteninf that after all of that and learning to enjoy it again people think its appropriate to lord having an easier time reading over others bc ppl having that attitude is part of why i struggled to pick it back up which has only really happened in the last year or so
YEAH. YEAH YEAH. COSIGNED
while not on the same level after um. gestures to my brain. the problems began i dropped off on reading and i just remember the last like 2-3 years being so incredibly frustrated i cant do what i used to be able to do as a kid. and im still a pretty freakishly fast reader (even if i have to go back to re-comprehend or remind myself bc my short term memory is Shot).
and its odd because when you ask these uh. bibliophiles i suppose what counts as reading you get some wild answers like. ive been beating myself up over not reading more books but im literally always digging through some pdfs or articles but that doesnt count i guess. nor does audiobooks or graphic novels (?) . its so fucking goofy like we get it you want fuck oscar wilde for your dark academia lifestyle but dont make it everyone elses problem. if you want to be an oppressed nerd so bad ill push you into a locker grow the fuck up
and it all just circles back around to ableism like truly. and then the shit they read isnt even good boooo tomato tomato tomato
anyway my strategy for reading improvement has been like. either juggling or like in any order but trying to do a 3 prong approach with reading something below my skill level, something at my skill level, and then something above my skill level + take notes when possible. i also write in my books lol who give a shit

Say, who are you're favourite characters of Dragonball Z, MHA, Hazbin Hotel and Supa Strikas ?
Good question, thanks for asking!
(I'll give you my fav characters and some reasons bcs just writing the characters looked weird)
Soooo, Dragon Ball
When it comes to Z, I don't have a lot of favorite characters, but I'll say
Bardock, he's simply my favorite on all Dragon Ball franchise
Gohan, him as a child was so cute, I honestly prefer child Gohan and future Gohan instead of present Gohan
Also little Goten, favorite scene: When Goku had to return to heaven and Goten didn't want him to leave.
And Goku's grandpa, just because
If we talk about Dragon Ball Super, there are more characters
Black Goku, my beloved crush
Liquiir (God of destruction of the 8th Universe), Idk, I think he's really cool and his tails must be fluffy
Korn (Guide Angel of the 8th Universe), is also really cool, I've seen a lot of fan art of him interacting with Vados and Whis, I think it's canon that he's their older brother.
If it's canon, then that trio of siblings (Korn, Vados, and Whis), I was a little inspired by their interactions to create the trio of Danica, Turles, and Hazu
Grand Zeno, he's just so cute, I have a weakness for cute things
Beerus, because... y'know, he's Beerus
Now, My Hero Academia, this one is shorter :)
Bakugou and Kirishima, I mean, I have a fanfic of them x reader, they are my husbandos
Aizawa, he sleeps as much as I do, so, yeah
Dabi, love his backstory, I mean, is sad, but I liked it
Enji Todoroki, character development!
Hazbin Hotel, this one is simple
Alastor, definitely, the psychopath mf is a deer
Angel and Pentious, character developmennntttt
Lucifer, he's just perfect
Husk, I feel we would be drinking buddies and I could really use a bartender in my shitty life
The egg bois, silly thingies yay
Emily, as I said, weakness for cute things
And last but definitely not least, Supa Strikas... (When I was younger it was called Super Strikas... do you know why the name was changed?)
Johann Uber has the first place in this one, big teddy bear vibes
Ja Nein, as I said in a publication, he's just, I quote myself, "300 IQ but so fucking cute"
Klaus von Jurgen Ulf Gutentag, again, cute
I think that's all... I really enjoyed writing this, thanks <3

how would you rank the anime you've ever watched? i'm looking for recommendations.
I know I talk about anime here from time to time, but I'm not a true anime fan, anon. Unfortunately, I have have misled you. I get attached to certain series for very specific reasons that not even I can predict until I'm twenty episodes in and thinking, "hey, this reminds me of____(insert disparate yet beloved piece of media here)." I also love shows that remind my of my IRL job in some way...which is weird to say, but yeah, I love watching shows and thinking, "wow, I could encounter this at my day job." I feel right at home lmao.
Anyhow, that's all to say that I don't deliberately set out to find new anime the way I keep up with indie movies and shorts. I'm a film bro, but I'm not an anime bro (idk what the correct term for avid anime/manga fans are). I watch shows that are getting buzz that also seem to align with my interests. I'm following three series at the moment.
I'd say right now, my favorite series alternate between My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer. A lot of this is due to nostalgia. I grew up reading and watching a lot of epic stories and series - Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, Redwall. I love long journeys, big adventures and battles. As an adult, I latched on to Game of Thrones, but who knows when George is finishing that. So these scratch that itch. I also want to credit both of these series for introducing me to a new genre of guy that I'm obsessed with: the good guy who acts like a villain (though I knew they were good all along, and right about everything...or nearly everything) but is anything but. Oh, so you think he's Satan incarnate? You think he's too mean? You hate him? That he's going to turn to the dark side? Wrong! On the contrary, he's so completely committed to the side of good, so unshakeable in his convictions, so genuinely kind and genuine inside that you are stuck with him and all his neuroses on the good side. No mystery here. Sorry not sorry. Anyhow, I love this genre of guy. After years of dealing with Murdoc, it's very refreshing.
I'm also watch Chainsaw Man. I like it so far, but it hasn't quite clicked yet and not even I know why. It technically has everything I'd want on paper - kind of spooky, some off-color humor, creator is a film bro who likes a lot of the same movies I do, promised character death/stakes. My chosen guy from this series is Aki, but I'm just whelmed so far despite having high hopes in the beginning. He's not really inspiring anything yet. I haven't even cast him in a Glee AU or musical (a rite of passage for all blorbos). Idk. But it's a series that's getting a lot of hype right now, so I still have high hopes. I do appreciate the risks it takes with the story structure. I want to name a future dog Pochita.
Anyhow, that's all I got lmao.
